$4 Billion in SNAP Money Went to Improper Food Stamp Payments
[Breitbart] The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) spent a total of $4 billion on improper food stamp payments to those receiving benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the USDA confirmed with Breitbart News on Friday.

The USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service announced this week that improper payments made up 6.3 percent of SNAP money in the fiscal year (FY) 2017‐the latest data available from the agency.

Breitbart News analyzed the USDA’s data on food stamp spending and found that $4,007,026,532 of the $63,603,595,754 the agency spent on SNAP in FY 2017 went to improper payments.

The USDA told Breitbart News that "it is important to note that improper payments include both overpayments and underpayments," meaning that households on SNAP that received less than what they were supposed to receive for the month are also included in the percentage rate.

So how am I supposed to interpret this statement? Does that mean the $4B is a gross or net number?

Illegal Alien Arrested for Starting Massive Colorado Forest Fire
[Townhall] An illegal alien residing in Colorado has been arrested for arson after authorities charged him with starting a forest fire that has destroyed more than 40,000 acres of land within the state, reports The Daily Caller.

Jesper Jorgensen, nationality unknown,
...but the name definitely sounds Scandinavian...
was arrested by the Costilla County police department but will be handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement according to officials. Jorgensen, aged 52, was tracked down by Costilla County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), state arson investigators, the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE).

Authorities did not give any information as to how exactly they determined that he started the fire.

ABC News reports that the "fire is currently burning in a rural, mountainous region in southern Colorado near Great Sand Dunes National Park." Yesterday, residents were ordered to evacuate their homes.

The blaze has consumed 41,292 acres of land. Authorities are having a difficult time controlling the fire due to non-ideal weather conditions.

Robber Fleeing Cops Electrocuted whilst Jumping on Subway Tracks
[Breitbart] A suspect accused of committing armed robbery at a Bronx deli early Sunday morning met an untimely end when he jumped off an elevated subway platform to escape the cops and hit the third rail, police said.

The New York Post reports that officers responded to a report of an armed robbery after midnight at the Paya Deli on W. 192 St. and Jerome Ave. when they began pursuing a suspect matching the robber’s description.

The suspect then fled on foot to a No. 4 line subway station on Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue and attempted to cross the subway tracks from the northbound side to the southbound side, police said.

While the suspect tried to cross the tracks, he hit the part of the tracks where electrical current flows and died.

Police say the suspect died of electrocution and found a gun on him while conducting a search of his body.

Officials say that a train pulled into the station around that time, but do not suspect the man died from being hit by a subway car.
“You will note that the body’s hair is still smoking, and it is not squished like a slug that had been stepped upon.”
“Dr. Quincy, your perspicacity is astounding!”

Eric Trump rushes into NYC traffic to save ailing woman
An ordinary morning in New York City last week for President Trump’s son Eric Trump abruptly turned frantic when he rushed to the aid of a woman who passed out near a train station, dodging rush-hour traffic to chase down a passing ambulance.

According to an eyewitness account provided to Secrets, Trump and his security detail stopped to tend to the unidentified woman outside of the F train stop near 57th Street and 6th Avenue on Wednesday morning.

Our tipster, who requested anonymity, said Trump then spotted a passing ambulance and rushed to stop it.

"I watched as Eric looked up, spotted an ambulance slowly passing by on 6th, ran into traffic ‐ almost getting hit by a bicyclist ‐ and shouted at the ambulance to get its attention," said the observer.

"Not sure if the ambulance had been called for or if Eric managed to hail one out of the blue, but in any case his sense of urgency was clear and he succeeded in getting the paramedics to stop and tend to the woman," added the observer, who has no ties to Trump.

Despite being the president’s son, prominent in New York for his role as the Trump Organization’s executive vice president of development and acquisitions, his Good Samaritan role went mostly unnoticed. "I don’t know if anyone really noticed all of this going on, there wasn’t a crowd of people watching," said the observer.

After the paramedics took over, Trump and his security detail left.

For his part, Trump gave the credit for helping the ailing woman to the medical team he flagged down.

"I’m glad we were able to play a small role in getting help for the woman on 58th Street," he told Secrets. "We just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I’m especially grateful to the EMTs who took over. It was certainly my first time hailing an ambulance in New York City," he added.

Man loses arm, fractures leg after being struck by train
[NYPOST] I don't want to seem unsympathetic but if I'd just been hit by a train, I wouldn't be doing anything dangerous enough to cost me an arm and a leg afterward.
Posted by: Fred || 07/02/2018 00:00 || Comments || Link || [4 views] Top|| File under:

#1  Not to nitpick, but shouldn't we consider the possibilyt that the poor man, having lost his arm in some unreported mishap, was only then, justifiably distracted rather than negligently careless, hit by the train, only to fracture his leg while fleeing the unlucky scene in a perfectly understandable, if belated, transport of caution? Or am I overthinking this?

#2  Possibly overthinking it, dear Spolulet Clunk6935, though I would not dream of discouraging the practice when the results are so very interesting. ;-)

From the article, two suggestively contrasting sentences:

It’s unclear how the man ended up on the tracks but police said he was not the victim of a crime.

Africa Horn
Sudan: Legal Fate of Sudanese Teen Fuels Debate Over Child Marriage
[All Africa] A legal battle over a teenager in Sudan who killed her husband as he tried to rape her has shone a spotlight on widespread child marriage in the African nation, campaigners said.

Noura Hussein, 19, was sentenced to death in May after a Sharia court, which follows Islamic religious laws, found her guilty of premeditated murder for stabbing her husband, whom she was forced to marry.

A court of appeal on Tuesday rejected the death penalty
, reducing Hussein's crime to manslaughter and punishing her with five years in jail and a fine of 375 Sudanese pounds ($20).

"We are of course elated, but this is just one small step in the right direction for women in Sudan," said Judy Gitau, a lawyer with the charity Equality Now, which is working with Hussein's legal team.

"We still aren't satisfied with the five years in prison as it's not fair for a girl who was trying to defend herself."

Gitau said Hussein's lawyers plan to visit her in prison, where she has been held for two months, to see if she will appeal once again.

Hussein claims that her father forced her to marry her 35-year-old cousin when she was 16, but she did not live with him until April this year.

She said she refused to have sex with her husband, but he raped her as three of his relatives held her down. The following day, he attempted to rape her again and, as she struggled to stop him, she stabbed and killed him.

Marital rape and child marriage are not considered crimes in the predominately Moslem African nation.

Sudanese law allows for the marriage of a girl once she hits puberty, and a 10-year-old girl can be married by a guardian with the permission of a judge.

Britain
Raging wildfire threatens moorlands in northern England
LONDON (AP) ‐ Some 120 firefighters are trying to contain a wildfire that has been declared a "major incident" as it spreads in the moorlands of northern England.

British fire officials said two large fires had merged because of high winds and extremely dry conditions as much of England is gripped by a heat wave. The fire is in the Winter Hill area, 220 miles (355 kilometers) northwest of London.

Lancashire fire officials said late Saturday that "we are dealing with a rapidly developing aggressive fire across all vegetation types, including woodlands."

About two dozen fire engines are on the scene and steps are being taken to protect nearby properties. Officials are asking residents not to come to try to help because of the threat to public safety.

UK defence firm BAE wins contract worth £20billion for Australian warship fleet in major boost for Brexit Britain
[MAIL] Defence giant BAE systems has landed a £20billion project to build nine warships for Australia in a major boost for Brexit Britain.

The firm beat off fierce competition to get the contract to construct the 'hunter killer' anti submarine ships.

The new fleet will become the backbone of Australia's defence and is the biggest naval construction project the country has undertaken since World War Two.

Theresa May hailed today's news saying it is the 'perfect illustration' of the deals Brexit Britain will be striking.

She said: 'The sheer scale and nature of this contract puts the UK at the very forefront of maritime design and engineering and demonstrates what can be achieved by UK industry and Government working hand-in-hand.

'We have always been clear that as we leave the EU we have an opportunity to build on our close relationships with allies like Australia. This deal is a perfect illustration that the Government is doing exactly that.

'And while this is an enormous boost for the UK economy, it will also cement our strategic partnership with one of our oldest and closest friends for decades to come.'

Caribbean-Latin America
Mexico goes hard left: AMLO Wins Mexican Presidential Election
[Breitbart] Mexico’s leftist candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has won his presidential bid after the rest of the candidates backed out of the race. The early poll results showed the president-elect pulling more than 40 percent of the votes in the early voting results.
The win by Lopez Obrador, also known as AMLO, is historic in nature since many in Mexico considered the election as a way of fighting back against the establishment. It is also the first time in recent history where rival candidates have conceded so early after the initial results were cast. Private polling companies initially had AMLO and the second placeholder as having a tight race. However, the early official results showed a clear leader.

Soon after the early result began to be broadcast at 8 p.m., Jose Antonio Meade, the candidate for the ruling Revolutionary Institutional Party (PRI) acknowledged his defeat. He stated that exit polls favored AMLO and backed out of the race. Early poll results had Meade pulling 18.2 percent of the votes as per Mexico’s National Elections Institute (INE).

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
John Bolton confronted PUTIN about election meddling – here's how Putin responded…
[Right Scoop] John Bolton, the National Security Advisor to Trump, spoke about his meeting with Vladimir Putin and what he said when he was confronted with accusations of election meddling.

This is very interesting. Bolton says that Putin denies that the Russian government had anything to do with the meddling, but he makes it clear that Bolton believes this leaves open the possibility that private Russian agents might have meddled. And only the most naive person could believe that would happen without Putin’s involvement.

At least Bolton put Vladimir on notice about meddling in this upcoming election. But I wonder how much power he has to actually enforce that, or if its wishful thinking.

They don't care about Russians, meddling or not...

#8  I recall Obummer saying to the Russian president he would have more flexibilty after the election. Probably didn't have anything to do with election meddling (not). He was probably referring to Uranium 1. BTW, where was Mueller at that time?

French criminal Redoine Faid escapes prison by helicopter
[Al Jazeera] A well-known French criminal has beat feet from prison by helicopter, the country's prison authority has said.

Local media reported that French-Algerian top gangster Redoine Faid made his second prison break in just over five years at around 11:30am (10:30 GMT) on Sunday.

Faid, 46, was reportedly assisted by at least three armed accomplices who picked him up by helicopter from the Reau prison courtyard, in the southeastern suburbs of Gay Paree, Le Gay Pareeien newspaper reported.

Le Monde newspaper reported the operation only took a few minutes.

The burned-out helicopter was found by local police in the Gonesse area, north of Gay Paree.

Faid, who was once the most-wanted criminal in La Belle France, pulled off an earlier prison break in April 2013 when he took four prison guards hostage and used explosives hidden in tissue packets to blast his way through several gates.

He was captured six weeks later in a hotel outside the French capital.

Faid was serving a 25-year prison sentence for a failed 2010 robbery in which a 26-year-old municipal police officer was killed.

He had been released on parole in 2009, after spending 10 years behind bars for a series of robberies.

Senator Collins will not back anti-abortion Supreme Court nominee
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A key moderate Republican U.S. senator said on Sunday that she will not support a nominee to fill a soon-to-be-vacated seat on the Supreme Court who would overturn a landmark legal ruling that supports a woman’s right to abortion.

The comments by Susan Collins, a frequent Senate swing vote, narrowed the path to confirmation facing any nominee Republican President Donald Trump selects to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, who is retiring from the high court.

"I would not support a nominee who demonstrated hostility to Roe v. Wade," Susan Collins told CNN’s "State of the Union" program, referring to the 1973 landmark abortion decision.

Abortion was expected to be a key topic for senators when they question Trump’s nominee in confirmation hearings.

#1  Which appears to indicate she will only support pro-abortion nominees. The typical progressive and democratic litmus test.

#2  I think a majority of people are ok with a right to abortion, but not an entitlement to get the taxpayer to pay for it.

#3  How about if the Justice supports a Scandinavian take on it? Good Euro-progressive take should be great no?

#4  Nothing stops state legislatures or Sen. Collin's to pass law implementing the tenets of Roe vs Wade. They won't do it because they know the ugly questions they'll face. Better to be cowards and rely upon an excuse that SCOTUS made us do it. They're very afraid of dealing with that.

#6  #4 exactly right. I don't see anything wrong with letting more than 9 people vote on abortion.

#8  Any conservative female or black (or the gods forbid, both!) who gets appointed will be attacked even worse by the left. It destroys their narrative and they need to punish those that go off the plantation.

#11  I thought that potential supreme court justices are not supposed to predict how they would rule on hypothetical cases, such as abortion, but only explain explain their general principles and why they ruled as they did in actual cases that passed before them on the bench.

#13  What if ALL Supreme Court Rulings had to be approved by the US Senate in the very next session and a 2/3 Majority would revoke them. Let's re-institute some 'Checks and Balances' on the Imperial Supreme Court. Actually, it would be Fun, in a ghoulish sort of way.

Trump crashes wedding at Bedminster golf club
[FoxNews] A bride and groom who got married Friday at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, were in for an exciting surprise when a very big-name guest dropped by: the president himself.

Trump, who spent the weekend at his resort, unexpectedly "crashed" the wedding of Gerald Papa and Jenna Buchholtz, TMZ reported.

The president, according to the outlet, shook hands with guests and posed for pictures.

Video

shows partygoers shouting at Trump, "We love you!" as he told people in the crowd to "take care of" the bride and groom. He appeared to hug and kiss the bride on the cheek ‐ to the excitement of guests ‐ and shook the groom's hand.

Trump's surprise appearance wasn't his first time crashing a wedding at his Bedminster club during his tenure as commander-in-chief.

He made a brief appearance at the wedding reception of Kristen Piatkowski and Tucker Gladhill in June 2017, where he also gave the bride a hug and kiss to commemorate the newlyweds' special day.
