-Lurid Crime Tales-
Musk: ‘To be totally frank, almost every conspiracy theory people had about Twitter turned out to be true'
[Republic Brief] Elon Musk, the CEO of a massively critical social media platform, is admitting that all of the corruption users had pegged the company with- is actually true.

Of course, the corrupt actors had gaslighted the whole world over the concerns people had about how Twitter was using their power and influence- by calling everyone a ’conspiracy theorist,’ and now we know all those former Twitter execs were lying when they denied their own corrupt practices when they had the levers of power to control the platform.

Musk admitted it.

"To be true, almost every conspiracy theory that people had about Twitter turned out to be true. So is there a conspiracy theory about Twitter that didn’t turn out to be true? No. So far, they’ve all turned out to be accurate, and if not, maybe more true than people thought, Musk shared on a Christmas Eve podcast with a jovial crew. However, the truth of what Musk has faced exposing the truth from his newly purchased social media giant- Twitter- is really no laughing matter.

Independent media caught the brazed admission by Musk and reported:

"Musk: To be totally frank, almost every conspiracy theory people had about Twitter turned out to be true" Thom Tillison reported for American Wire News Service.

Given the state of today’s media, Elon Musk’s contributions to free speech and a more fair and just society in America will largely go unspoken but even a corrupt media cannot put the genie back into the bottle when it comes to what has been learned thus far from the ongoing release of the "Twitter Files."

What we have learned via the Twitter Files is that conservatives were being shadow-banned and otherwise stepped upon, that the FBI and other intelligence agencies were working in partnership with now-former executives at the social media giant to control information and silence accounts deemed to be problematic, and that these actions consistently worked in favor of electing Joe Biden in 2020.

"To be totally frank, almost every conspiracy theory that people had about Twitter turned out to be true," Musk can be seen admitting in the footage below from the "All In Podcast."

University Of Idaho Professor Sues TikTok Personality Who Linked Her To Student Murders
[ZERO] A professor at the University of Idaho filed a defamation lawsuit against a TikTok personality, who published dozens of videos linking the professor to the killing of four students at the campus last month, court documents show.

The deaths of the four University of Idaho students remain unsolved after their bodies were found in a three-story house near the campus on Nov. 13. Police said each victim was stabbed multiple times and some had defensive wounds. The authorities have made no arrest, nor did they identify a suspect in the case.

Ashley Guillard, a purported crime sleuth with over 108,000 followers on the short-video platform, published "many videos on TikTok falsely stating that Plaintiff Rebecca Scofield participated in the murders because she was romantically involved with one of the victims," read the complaint filed on Dec. 21.

"Guillard’s statements are false. Professor Scofield did not participate in the murders, and she had never met any of the victims, let alone entered a romantic relationship with them," according to the lawsuit filed in Idaho’s federal district court.

Guillard, who consults Tarot cards and other readings to obtain information about murders, made the accusation against the history professor on Nov. 22, the lawsuit alleges.

"I don’t care what y’all say ...Rebecca Scofield killed [the four students] ... REBECCA WAS THE ONE TO INITIATE THE PLAN..." Guillard wrote in a video on TikTok.

Scofield, an associate professor who served as the chair of the history department, "did not commit or in any way participate in the murders of the four students," the complaint states.

Scofield was with her husband in Portland, Oregon, visiting friends during the time when the four students were killed, according to the complaint.

The lawsuit states that Scofield had never taught any of the victims.

Category 4 Atmospheric River Hitting California
[CBSnews] An atmospheric river, or a weather system that moves high concentrations of water vapor outside of the tropics, could on Tuesday bring up 1 to 3 inches of rain to the coastal areas, with higher elevations receiving upward of 3 to 5 inches, the National Weather Service told CBS San Francisco. The atmospheric river could be as strong as a Category 4, with a scale that tops out a 5.

Warmer system than last week so rain and/or wet snow in mountains. Main beneficial effect will be refilling reservoirs, e.g., Shasta, Oroville, Don Pedro. Main adverse effect will be urban flooding. Net very beneficial.

Savage US blizzard leaves 32 dead, power outages, travel snarls
[An Nahar] A brutal winter storm has brought Christmas Day danger and misery to millions of Americans as intense snow and frigid cold gripped parts of the eastern United States, with weather-related deaths rising to at least 32.

A crisis situation unfolded in Buffalo, in western New York, where a blizzard left the city marooned, with emergency services unable to reach the worst-hit areas.

"It is (like) going to a war zone, and the vehicles along the sides of the roads are shocking," said New York Governor Kathy Hochul, a native of Buffalo, where eight-foot (2.4-meter) snow drifts and power outages have made for life-threatening conditions.

Hochul told news hounds Sunday evening that residents were still in the throes of a "very dangerous life-threatening situation" and warned anyone in the area to remain indoors.

More than 200,000 people across several eastern states woke up without power on Christmas morning and many more had their holiday travel plans upended, although the five-day-long storm featuring blizzard conditions and ferocious winds showed signs of easing.

The extreme weather sent wind chill temperatures in all 48 contiguous US states below freezing over the weekend, stranded holiday travelers with thousands of flights canceled and trapped residents in ice- and snow-encrusted homes.

Thirty-two weather-related deaths have been confirmed across nine states, including at least 13 in Erie County where Buffalo is located, with officials warning the number is sure to rise.

Officials described historically dangerous conditions in the snow-prone Buffalo region, with hours-long whiteouts and bodies discovered in vehicles and under snow banks as emergency workers struggled to search for those in need of rescue.

The city's international airport remains closed until Tuesday and a driving ban remained in effect for all of Erie County.

"We now have what'll be talked about not just today but for generations (as) the blizzard of '22," Hochul said, adding that the brutality had surpassed the region's prior landmark snowstorm of 1977 in "intensity, the longevity, the ferocity of the winds."

Due to frozen electric substations, some residents were not expected to regain power until Tuesday, with one frozen substation reportedly buried under 18 feet of snow, a senior county official said.

Related: The Buffalo News has the latest weather articles at the top of the main page. As of 9 p.m. ET on the 26th, 28 were confirmed dead in Niagara and Erie counties, and driving bans are being lifted in some communities. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said the Blizzard of '77 lasted longer, but the ferocity of this storm was worse.

China-Japan-Koreas
S. Korea fires warning shots after N. Korean drone incursion
More on this story from yesterday.
[An Nahar] South Korea accused the North of flying "several" drones across their shared border on Monday, prompting Seoul's military to deploy warplanes and fire warning shots to ward them off.

"Our military first detected a North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
n unmanned aerial vehicle around the Gimpo airspace at 10:25 am (0125 GMT)," the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said in a statement.

"Several North Korean unmanned aerial vehicles invaded our airspace" in the border areas around Gyeonggi province, it added.

The incursion prompted Seoul to fire warning shots and deploy fighter jets and attack helicopters.

One of the warplanes, a KA-1 light attack aircraft, later crashed in Hoengseong County, Yonhap news agency reported.
embarrassing
The military did not indicate whether the objects had been shot down, or had gone back over the border, one of the most heavily-fortified locations in the world.

But Yonhap reported that South Korean warplanes were trying to shoot down the drones, some of which reached airspace near the capital Seoul.

Flights were temporarily suspended at Gimpo and Incheon international airports -- the country's two major hubs -- for about an hour at the request of the JCS, according to Yonhap, which cited an official from South Korea's transport ministry.

Yang Moo-jin, a professor at the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul, said the incident marked the first time that South Korean flights were suspended over "the appearance of North Korean drones", adding they were likely for spying purposes.

"Considering North Korea's poor level of drone development, there is little possibility that they carry the drone attack capabilities used in modern warfare," he added.

"It is speculated that they came over to our area as part of reconnaissance training during the recent winter training."
Courtesy of Skidmark, a BBC update at 2:10 p.m. ET:
South Korea's military has apologised for failing to shoot down five drones that North Korea flew across their mutual border on Monday.

Seoul fired warning shots and sent jets and attack helicopters to shoot down the aircraft, one of which flew close to the capital.

Despite a five-hour pursuit, the drones reportedly all returned to North Korea.

‘Agonizing': United Furniture owner quietly surfaces after firing 2,700 overnight
[NYP] The owner of United Furniture Industries, which abruptly fired all of its 2,700 employees during a single night last month, has been quietly assisting a wind-down of the business — with some insiders claiming he’s trying to "save face" following the bloodbath, The Post has learned.

David Belford — a wealthy Ohio businessman who had gone silent for several weeks following the Nov. 21 layoffs at furniture factories in Mississippi, North Carolina and California — resurfaced earlier this month, telling a local business publication he is "devastated by the turn of events" and calling the situation "agonizing."

But Belford also insisted he’s not to blame, according to the Dec. 12 interview with Columbus Business First. He called himself a "passive investor" in the Okolona, Miss.-based business, according to the report, adding that "my insight into the company’s finances was limited."

"Only very recently did I learn just how dire the situation had become, how limited the company’s options were," he said. "Unfortunately, the reality of UFI’s circumstances was brought to the board’s attention far too late."

Government Corruption
The One We've Been Waiting For: Twitter Files on COVID-19 Drops
[RED STATE] The revelations of past Twitter Files drops have been stunning, to say the least, with direct FBI involvement in the quashing of free speech being perhaps the biggest bombshell. The uncovering of corruption isn’t over yet, though. Not by a long shot.

The next major installment is, for my money, the one we’ve been waiting for. Namely, it covers Twitter’s suppression of speech in regard to COVID-19, and there are some surprising reveals included. For example, the Trump administration didn’t have its hands clean in regard to coordinating with Twitter to combat "misinformation."

I may be a partisan, but I’m not a hack, and my consistent standard on "misinformation" has been that the government should not play a role in policing it. There’s simply too much that can happen as far as abuse of power and violations of the First Amendment to let politicians and bureaucrats touch that third rail. The Trump administration may have had good intentions, and their transgressions may have not been nearly as egregious, but it’s still disappointing to see that the former president played that game.

Of course, Joe Biden took things much further.

Hyundai Completes Verification for LNG/Hydrogen Hybrid Engine
[Maritime Exec] Hyundai Heavy Industries Group has developed and successfully tested Korea's first LNG/hydrogen mixed-firing engine. The development of the hybrid engine is part of the South Korean shipbuilding industry’s focus on next generation ships and high-value applications which it is pursue to expand its shipbuilding capabilities and meet the challenges for eco-friendly shipping/

The shipbuilding group reported that it completed performance verification on December 22 for the new hybrid engine. It is a 1.5MW class LNG/hydrogen hybrid engine (HiMSEN) developed internally by the shipbuilding group with its own technology. Hyundai says that it is the first step toward hydrogen engines.

The LNG/Hydrogen hybrid engine significantly reduces emissions of various harmful exhaust gases such as sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide, and fine dust by selectively using diesel fuel and LNG/hydrogen mixture fuel. The performance test showed that the engine meets the IMO’s Tier 3 standard, the highest grade among the nitrogen oxide regulations, and proved its excellent effect in reducing carbon dioxide and methane slip (methane emitted without complete combustion).

Ford Model T Snowmobiles Are Serious Business
[Motorious] To the average person who knows almost nothing about cars, other than there’s a stick to check the coolant level or something, the Ford Model T must be some delicate antique which will crumble like a graham cracker if you were to breathe on it wrong. The truth is Model Ts are incredibly tough, which is why owners took them off-roading back in the day and do so today. What you might not have known before is owners used to convert them into snowmobiles with tracks in the back and skis in the front, perhaps making them superior to all-wheel-drive cars of today.
