[NY Post] A Colorado security guard was caught carrying a severed hand inside his coat pocket while on the job last week — just one day after a mutilated, headless body was found at a nearby creek.
Solomon Martinez, 26, was arrested at work on Jan. 11 on suspicion of first-degree murder in the death of the woman, who is believed to be the owner of the hand, Pueblo police said.
He allegedly admitted to hiring the woman as a prostitute days before, but denied committing the murder.
Cops quickly zeroed in on Martinez after his roommate caught him covered in dirt and blood at a local carwash before 5 a.m. two days before his arrest.

The executive director of the Rainbow Resource Center, a prominent LGBTQ+ support center based in Modesto, has been identified as one of 17 men apprehended on suspicion of attempting to engage in sexual activities with a minor.
The revelation was first reported by the Modesto Bee.
Gerad Slayton, 42, was taken into custody during a sting operation organized by the Turlock Police Department, targeting individuals believed to be seeking illicit encounters with minors. Slayton, recently appointed as the executive director of the Rainbow Center, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing resources for LGBTQ+ individuals across all age groups, faces allegations of pursuing sexual activities with minors.
The Rainbow Center addressed the situation through a Facebook statement, asserting that Slayton's alleged actions occurred outside of working hours and were not associated with the organization's premises. Court records indicate that Slayton has no prior felony charges in Stanislaus County.
The statement reads, in part:
"We want to assure our community that we take these allegations with the utmost seriousness. Mr. Slayton's actions do not represent our organization’s values or mission. In accordance with our unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct and integrity, we are addressing the issue within the rainbow resource center.
"We acknowledge the impact that the situation may have had on the community. We understand that trust is earned through consistent and accountable actions. We are dedicated to rebuilding any trust that may have been affected by the situation. As an organization that is at the forefront of advocacy and support for the LGBTQ+ community, our actions must reflect our dedication to these principles."

Thank you, FAA spokesperson, who did not mention (obscured?) the fact that the same controllers who work Ground control (under whose aegis the subject aircraft were operating) are routinely rotated through Ground and Air [Traffic] many times during their shifts. Ground and ATC work in the same cab, while Departure is typically relegated to "the basement."
I'd like a little more data regarding the controller who was working the aircraft during the gate operation.

There isn't an inch of the areas between the gates, taxiways and runways that isn't 'controlled' by someone.
The new outer taxiway and runway configurations at O'hare are better than they used to be, although the taxiways near the gate areas are still a clusterf*ck.

Same day this happened, Mrs. Ret. and I were departing Kalamazoo, Mi, in about 25 degree weather. Our plane, a CRJ had sat on the ramp all night and got cold-soaked. As a result, the cabin door would not close. American Eagle ground crew used a huffer’s exhaust to warm it up so it could be closed(took 45 minutes and 3 people. Cabin steward’s seat was directly adjacent to it; with the Boeing door plug fiasco fresh in my head, i asked Spousal and Daughter Units to keep the seat belts low and tight.
Watching this circle jerk, I half expected Clyde Clutchrider (A&P certified) to appear with a Harbor Freight comealong to ‘encourage’ the door to close.
We werent on the news so must have made it.

[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] After more than a week in space, the doomed Peregrine One spacecraft is set to crash back down to Earth today.
At around 4pm EST (9pm GMT) on Thursday, the craft is expected to hit an uninhabited region the South Pacific Ocean, about 400 miles south of Fiji.
Astrobotic, the Pittsburgh firm that developed the lander with the backing of NASA, said it is working to ensure a safe re-entry that doesn't hit land.
Launched from Florida on January 8, Peregrine One was intended to land on the moon, but the mission soon became doomed due to a propellant leak.
Peregrine One was supposed to serve as a scout for the NASA's Artemis astronauts before they make their own moon landing in 2026.
Under a $108 million contract with NASA, the 1.2-ton lander is carrying 20 payloads including science instruments and DNA samples from US presidents John F Kennedy, Dwight D Eisenhower, and George Washington.
The lander also holds the remains of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, alongside the ashes of around 60 other individuals that were set to be dropped on the lunar surface.

[Reuters] LONDON, Nov 16 (Reuters) - The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has given $23.6 million to U.S.-based life science company Micron Biomedical to fund the first ever mass production of needle-free vaccine technology.
The technology works by delivering the vaccine via dissolvable microneedles attached to the skin on a patch-like device.
Global health experts have long argued for the potential of similar technology to boost the uptake of life-saving shots.
It is simpler to transport and administer than traditional injections, particularly in low-income countries where reaching all of the children who need vaccines remains challenging. But scaling up production has been a hurdle.
A trial in Gambia earlier this year showed that Micron’s device delivered the measles-rubella vaccine, produced by the Serum Institute of India, to adults, babies and toddlers as safely and effectively as syringes, and produced a similar immune response.
The technology "could help overcome some of the most substantial barriers to eradicating measles and rubella globally", said James Goodson, senior scientist in the immunization division at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which has also partnered with Micron.
It reduces the need for a cold chain for distribution, and does not require a trained professional to give the vaccine. It could also help those with a fear of injections, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
The funding will support the development of a manufacturing facility to help make around 10 million devices annually, for larger clinical trials and then wider use, subject to approvals from regulatory authorities.
The company has had several other grants from Gates, to help deliver the technology to "underserved populations around the world", Micron's CEO Steven Damon said.
