-Short Attention Span Theater-
A Bush World War Looming
by Professor Emeritus Peter Bagnolo
Forget the tinfoil. Apply 6 inches of lead in front of your screen before reading.

GW Bush is planning to initiate World War III before the next election. There are several underlying reasons for his planned course of action and he has been making hints, slips of the tongue and rattling of his perennial saber over the last several weeks, taking the same tact of fear and solemn pre-WW III verbiage, which reflects somewhat that of pre-Pearl Harbor talk in the 1930's. The Pre-Pearl arguments were justified, these are so ridiculous that one wonders, if this were a movie just released, how fast it would be laughed out of the theatres, or perhaps after screen tests, be withdrawn and made into a Saturday Morning Cartoon,

The situations between then (1941) and now are almost blasphemously different. The Pre-Pearl Harbor concerns were focused on two possible enemies, which then had the potential to do real damage to the US, and in fact later, did. This poor facsimile in Iraq is but a Yellow-Kid Wyle scam, so much like the pre-Iraq attack fear tactics that one wonder how stupid those who believe it are, if any do.

It will take weeks, perhaps months before he actually attacks Iran, unless a genuine opportunity arises more quickly. He may, in an effort to make his Euro-Allies feel he is doing something to solve the problem diplomatically, wait out what will appear to be a reasonable period of "trying," but his refusal to set up direct talks with Iran, are a clue to his real desire.

Some may ask why does he want to attack Iran? The reasons are few and have little to do with the excuses he is currently giving. If history is a lesson, in the case of this president, the reasons will change again and again.

If we could see a copy of The Oil and Gas Law of The Iraq Republic, we would undoubtedly have part of the answer as to why we attacked that nation. A better oil deal, nor for the citizens of Iraq and America, but for the Oil Companies of the US, Kuwait, Great Britain, Saudi Arabia and a few others. Certainly also more no-bid contracts for the Bushites friends and the family business, The Carlyle Group, which has profited so mightily from the current "war".

There is more, however. In Bush's latest speeches, his language is apocalyptic and biblical, sounding right out the Left Behind/Rapture fiction, which so many "Christians" apparently accept as Sacred Writ. He is making his case to win them over after some mild rifting, by making war upon another segment of the fastest growing religion on the planet, Muslimism. It was growing fast before the attack on Iraq and since it has been growing faster.

Bush has performed four unexpected, genuine miracles, so maybe he is the messiah. The first was actually getting people to believe his lies about "why we must attack Iraq." The second was to get the same people to buy the same argument again. The third was to do what the Democrats could not do, to convert so many swing voters away from the Republicans, and the fourth was to win an election for the Democrats.

So, now, feeling he has the bible thumpers well in hand, the oil companies and No-Bid contractors, salivating (Hint to Dems, make No-Bid Contracts over $500.00 illegal.) with jillions in stolen treasury money from three nations pouring in (USA, Afghanistan and Iraq), no-bid contractor slush money at the ready, Bush will go forward with wary confidence.

He wants the war in full bloom for the 2008 election, so he can bamboozle the easily frightened, the drooling, slack-jawed and the clueless, and the "Christian Right" (which are neither Christian or Right) once again into voting Red. Now the "Christian Right" can feel very confident that the illusion of religious and ethnic genocide against the hated Muslims is a reality, some might even enlist, something many though flag waving and bible, thumping, have assiduously avoided.

There are at least three goals here aimed at by Bush aside from the phony smoke screen of his embracing of a Christian jihad and Renaissance. (The easiest way to end a fast growing religion which is not Christian Fascist, is to kill most of the existing offending Muslims, giving Christian Fascism a slight numerical edge. However, in so doing, my guess is that if God is not now a Muslim, these actions will perform the fifth miracle and force his conversion to Muslimism. There are strong ages old and continuing, historical evidence that God loves the ironic and in sharp reversal, will suddenly favor the underdog.)

The first of the at least top three goals of Bushites is to get the oil. The second is to win in 2008 and the third is to make after victims, (2) Iran, (3) Syria, (4) Venezuela, number (5) will be... Yes, the USA! However, just the Blue states, so do not worry...What am I saying that is... US!

A World War, Bush is convinced by Cheney, Rove, Wolfowitz, Perl and Company, will give him the power and longevity of FDR.

His first step after these wars or war, will be to complete the Martial Law he has initiated by eliminating Habeas Corpus in 9 of the 10 points of the Bill of Rights, through the Military Commissions Act of 2006, and then in true Hitlerian fashion, follow that up with chucking the Constitution and creating a new Constitutional Convention based on his trio of inspirational books; Hitler's Mein Kampf, Orwell's 1984, and a degenerated version of both Judeo/Christian Testaments.

However, that is not the end of the Bush hypocrisy and blasphemy, there is also a chance that some "Christian" archeologist's will "discover" a new version of the bible which cites Bush as Messiah, and Jesus' as an armed revolutionary Messiah, disarmed by frightened early church hierarchies to appeal to Constantine, thus justifying his using Jesus as then poster-man for war. This document may be "unearthed" in either Israel, or Iraq or some other conquered Mid-eastern nation.

The next step will be the initiation of a Theocratic National Constitution, overseen by a New World Order, Inquisition.
If you have been reading my columns and predictions here on OPEDNEWS.com, or on other news sources, or my Old Newsletters or my blogspot, you know that I predicted that ala 1984, Bush will be found, if an investigation is begun, to be funding terrorists to ensure, ala Orwell, an active, well funded enemy. I have more than hinted that Osama may be an ally of oily Bushites, supported now by the billions in cash that has disappeared from Iraq. This may come to light very quickly now, and though I first mentioned it four years ago, this would be the time to invoke a Special Prosecutor.

There is only one way to stop Bush and it must be done quickly. A special prosecutor must be invoked and Bush Cheney must be indicted. Attempting to stop them by new laws, will fail because Bush has the right of veto and the Dems do not have the numbers to over come the veto, and they cannot count on the Supreme Court to uphold the Constitution or any injunctions filed against attacking other nations.

Although things look bleak, there is always the possibility of a sixth miracle, which would end the whole scenario, but I would not count on it. Altruism does not appear to be this congress or this Supreme Court's long suit.

Well, Almighty Father, the ball is firmly in Your Court. We were not all taken-in, and as You well know, some of us knew what was going to happen from the beginning, by Your kind grace of enlightenment.

Authors Bio: Professor Bagnolo is a Renaissance man: Architectural designer, painter, sculptor, writer, novelist, toy/game designer and inventor. As a child prodigy, abed with polio for almost two years, with an off the charts IQ, reading at the graduate level by 5th grade, offered an opportunity to skip three grades at age 8, his parents allowed only a one grade skip, however. Later He was a recipient of an Art Institute scholarship at age 11, a Ford Foundation Fellowship and merit scholarship in art, and was appointed a Graduate Research Assistant position in college. He holds a triple bachelor's degree in Painting and Drawing, Anthropology, Architectural Design Advertising. He taught; architecture, anthropology, Theology, advertising, painting and drawing, entrepreneuring and seminars on Creative Profit Making. He produced a star-studded Music festival, had a radio talk show in Chicago, and cable TV show. Now, retired from Teaching, he paints, writes, and pursues other ventures. The above bio harvested from the comments of Deans, colleagues, students, clients and collector's.

#2  yeah, yeah, right, I'm following him, but, do tell, since I'm a willing cog in the coming New World Order (am I not here at RB, doing my part for the VRWC?)... what exactly will be my reward? I expect something in return for selling out to The Man, mind you. And I'm not aiming high, so it wil be easy to please me and reward me, and not too expensive either. Thanks in advance.

#4  Who is this dingbat and who actually thinks an absurd bio like that sounds impressive to anybody but a dingbat?

People like this frighten me because they actually believe all these ridiculous things with absolutely no proof to back them up. They're so crazy that they don't know they're crazy. And that's scary.

#5  Dear heavens, some of the comments in here are just so over-the-top, even by moonbattery standards. It just lays there screaming "Fisk me! Fisk me!"

. . . rattling of his perennial saber . . .

I like perennial sabers so much better than annuals. Annuals, you gotta get new seeds and replant 'em every spring, and it takes months before they grow big enough to rattle. A good perennial gets big enough after the first year, and you can propagate cuttings easy and after a few years you'll grow enough sabers in a modest backyard garden for you to equip a full cavalry troop.

The next step will be the initiation of a Theocratic National Constitution, overseen by a New World Order Inquisition.

"Ha! Nobody expects the New World Order Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and the fanatical devotion of Fox News.... Our four...no... Amongst our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again....."

"So, why won't Bush just feed the special prosecutor to the New World Order Inquisition and be done with it that way?"

"Because he's a special prosecutor, with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men."

"But won't the Supreme Court just ignore him anyway? I mean, if they're already ignoring the Constitution, why stop there?"

"Because . . . because . . . YEEEAAAGGGHH! We're doomed!"

"There, there now, it's all right. Here, take your thorazine like a good boy and the voices will stop. . . . ."

#7  The Pre-Pearl arguments were justified

Not really. All we had to do to avoid WWII was to roll over for the Axis Powers. Because we didn't, we were attacked.

If the US were truly the fascist regime claimed by it's critics, why did we side with 'losers' like China, the USSR, France, etc?

If we wanted better oil contracts with Iraq, just lift the UN embargo on Saddam like Chirac advocated. We'd have sold the Kurds, Shi'ites, Kuwaitis, and possibly Saudis down the river but so what? We're meanies, remember?

If we wanted cheap oil we would have conquered Mexico. They are local and slowly invading us. An excuse would not have been diffcult to create.

#10  I went back and actually googled this jerk off. He wrote a self published sci-fi book about baseball and a "maniac president" and then gave himself some positive sock puppet reviews.

Truly pathetic. I'd bet this guy has some real mental issues.

BTW, a lot of the people at OpEd seem to be "On The Fringe" academic-types who boast an adjunct professorship but basically live on food stamps. Towns like Ithaca, Madison, and Berkeley are full of them. Sad.

#11  Nimble: I managed to get through the whole posting here only with the aid of a leaded glass front plate for my laptop (scrounged from the Advanced Light Source at LBNL and designed to stop X-rays that'll kill you in 30 nanseconds if exposed). Unfortunately, I fear that by the time I'd finished the posting here enough radiation had leaked through the leaded glass to inflict serious damage upon my person (I'm using duct tape to hold together the pieces that are in danger of exploding).

The rest of the bar is dead too from background leakage. I'm hoping beer works as a cure. It seems to be so far...

#14  I think the most relevent part of his biography was "He taught seminars . . .on creative profit making". As long as you stay away from reality, these theories make perfect sense.

This is a child prodigy brain. This is a child prodigy brain on LSD. (Somebody obviously forgot to tell the professor to stay away from the Kool Aid.)

And, what RMV said. Most notably, anthropology is not a hard science or discipline. I once had a human paleontology instructor suggest in class that humans had developed longer penises than primates because chimps have been observed to "kiss" each other (the exact same argument was used for the dimunition of human canines from those found in primates).

#28  I was reading at the graduate level at that age, too, and my IQ is very much on the charts. It's a matter of having the books lying about the house, is all. Unless you're talking about the hard sciences and engineering, which actually require a large technical knowledge base, and the understanding to manipulate them. For that matter, by the time I was in second grade I was editting Daddy's oncology research papers before he submitted them to the biochemistry journals... but that was to remind him where the verbs go, and to replace commas with periods every half page or so. Even though I thought I understood the content, I didn't really. On the other hand, I eventually figured that out -- it looks like Mr. Professor Emeritus never did.

Down Under
Hicksville - place with a secret
SUPPORTERS of self-confessed Taliban warrior David (aka Abu Muslim Australia, aka Abu Muslim Astrailii, aka Abu Muslim Philippine, aka Muhammad Dawood) Hicks are either brainwashed or brainless. Their threadbare arguments to "Free Hicks" would indicate they have suspended any ability they may have once possessed to think logically.

Blind emotion is clearly driving some, like millionaire Dick Smith, to contribute to this loser's cause when there are so many more better-defined causes in need of assistance. It is abundantly obvious Hicks' defence team hopes to win a victory in the court of public sentiment, probably because they fear the strength of the case against their client.

If they believed they had a water-tight defence they could have relied on the injunction offered in John 8:31-32 – "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

But they haven't. They have sought to dissemble, to obfuscate, to play to anti-US and anti-Howard forces, anything to keep their client from having his day in court.

They have signalled they intend to launch further appeals, in addition to the one launched in Sydney this week, which will again delay any trial.

Another diversion was announced yesterday in the US, where two other notorious Guantanomo prisoners, Hamdan and Khadr, filed petitions with the US Supreme Court seeking review of the habeas corpus removal provision in the Military Commissions Act in a third bid by the accused to try to use US federal courts to stop their trials.

So much for their claims that they look forward to their day in court where they can confront the witnesses and the evidence against them.

As the US chief prosecutor Colonel Morris Davis says: "If they really want their day in court, and if they believe the process is unfair, then why not go to trial and develop a record so everyone can see whether it is a fair or unfair process rather than just speculate on how it might work?"

With much of the Australian media barracking for Hicks, many people have forgotten it was his father, Terry, who told the media that, in a conversation with his son shortly after 9/11, David said the Americans "are the enemy" and he was going to go to the fight.

Terry Hicks said: "I told him what I thought of what he was doing," but "I can't tell him what to do – he's 26 years old and his own man."

Terry Hicks concluded: "He's a terrorist in our eyes as he's fighting against his own."

Colonel Davis says it "was interesting to hear Terry Hicks during the taping of (SBS program) Insight last week say David was just going back to Afghanistan to get his passport when in 2001 he described his efforts to talk David out of taking up arms against the US and the coalition."

Then there was the front page story in The Sydney Morning Herald which said Hicks was chained in his cell for 22 hours a day.

Sheer nonsense. Just like the charge that US prosecutors timed the swearing of charges to coincide with their departure from Guantanamo, when they were told a week prior in Colonel Davis' office when they were expected to be laid; or the claim that Labor would bring Hicks home for trial – what, under retrospective laws? Get real.

Or the hysteria about military commissions, a long accepted means of trying those who commit offences against the laws of war which operated, for example, at the conclusion of WWII military commissions throughout Europe and the Far East.

There is no requirement that those who commit war crimes must be tried in civilian courts.

Hicks' lawyer Major Michael Mori may be the darling of the latte-lappers but his claim the new rules permit Hicks to be subjected to the death penalty was absolute hokum.

It went unchallenged.

NSW Attorney-General Bob Debus said last November: "I think it is fair to say that we are all shaken by the information that Major Mori has given us." But he hadn't even heard the charges.

As Colonel Davis said: "You would think someone with the legal training required to be an attorney-general would be somewhat hesitant to form a fixed and definite opinion based solely upon the representations of an advocate for a party in interest.

"You would think he would at least be interested in hearing the other side of the story before making up his mind on an issue in which he has no first-hand knowledge."

Nope. True believers don't need facts. It's all in the vibe.

Hicks hasn't been demonised, as Major Mori claims Treasurer Peter Costello has attempted to do.

Hicks' admissions of his desire to kill Jews and Christians and destroy those who follow Western culture is all of his own making.

He was a member of a group sworn to reject everything the West stands for – the equality of women, democracy, freedom to practise any religion. He certainly didn't need anyone else demonising him.

Now, he and his team in their attempts to evade trial are behaving like the six Pakistani defendants and their lawyers in one of Sydney's more appalling gang rape cases of which author Paul Sheehan wrote in his best-selling book Girls Like You – deny, exclude, confuse, accuse. Hicks' supporters should listen again to what Terry Hicks said after speaking to his son the terrorist and believe both Hicks were telling the truth.

#1  It's all moot now. Hick's attorney announced yesterday that Hicks had renounced his Islamic faith. I doubt that his former Muslim brethren at Guantanamo will let him live long enough to stand trial.

Fifth Column
Kent State Jihadist/Professor
By Mike S. Adams

Yesterday afternoon, I logged on to the "Global War" blog (global-war.bloghi.com) of Associate Professor Julio Pino – a Muslim convert who teaches at Kent State University. The heading for the site used to read "The Worldwide Web of Jihad: Daily News from the Most Dangerous Muslim in America." Now it reads "Are You Prepared for Jihad?" IN THE NAME OF OBL. 2007: THE YEAR OF ISLAMIC VICTORY!"

Hardly able to believe what I was reading, I called Pino at his office in Ohio around 4 p.m. According to his secretary, he had not been at work that day (he only has office hours two days of the week). He was drawing a paycheck from the people of the State of Ohio while trying to launch a Jihad against people like me. In fact, just five minutes before I called he posted an entry under the title "Crusaders Can’t Take Anymore in Afghanistan!"

Pino began his morning of not going into his office at Kent State by penning a post under the title “Frightened British Crusaders Rush More Troops to Occupied Afghanistan.” Using terms like “occupation” and “Crusaders” it isn’t really necessary to read these posts in order to ascertain who this employee of the State of Ohio is rooting for in the War on Terror.

But, just in case you were curious about the purpose of this site, it is provided in the upper right corner: "We are a jihadist news service, and provide battle dispatches, training manuals, and jihad videos to our brothers worldwide. All we want is to get Allah’s pleasure. We will write ‘Jihad’ across our foreheads, and the stars. The angels will carry our message throughout the world."

Despite his clear support of mass murder, he once complained that the Jews were engaged in genocide against the Palestinians. He claimed that as a result of that assertion, he was "harassed" and received "death threats."

But, just to be fair to Pino, he is more balanced in his teaching than a lot of my colleagues at UNC-Wilmington. In fact, he’s even willing to criticize an occasional Democrat. He says that John F. Kennedy once planned "genocide against the Cuban people" in the 1960s. He also claims that President Bill Clinton killed "more than 500,000 Iraqi children" in the 1990s.

Although obsessed with the notion that America is being over-run by "Christian fascism," he has affectionately referred to his students his "little Jihadists" and his "beloved Taliban." In other words, he makes no bones about the fact that he works to indoctrinate, not educate, the children of the taxpayers of the State of Ohio.

Mike Adams is a criminology professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and author of Welcome to the Ivory Tower of Babel: Confessions of a Conservative College Professor.

#5  ...Not at all surprising. When I was a USAF recruiter in Akron (about 15 minutes away) we were under strict orders not to go to the KSU campus for any but the most compelling of reasons an then only in civilian clothes. Every year the moonbats raise the bloody shirt where the 4 students were killed in 1970 - some years ago the college wanted to expand a parking lot that would have taken up about 80 square feet near where the students were killed, and the school damn near exploded again. For the last 37 years, the state of Ohio has allowed KSU to function not as a college but as some bizarre living reminder of the day the moonbats thought the Revolution had finally started, and the sooner that school gets put out of its misery the better off we'll all be.

#11  What about an instructor on ‘abnormal psychology’ running a child pornography site?

Academic freedom was intended to cover what was covered in the classroom to discuss controversial subjects, it was not to fund behaviors outside that setting which seeks to destroy the very environment that permits academies to exist.

What particularly happens within a private university be it Harvard or Bob Jones is their problem or advantage to deal with. They’re beholding to the officers or officials who wield operational power to make or break it. A public university is the property of the people of the state. As such it is subject to the same conditions of employment as any other public employee. When KKK members or sympathizers can openly spout racial hatred on the same level as this cretin and retain a chair within same said university system, then talk me about ‘academic freedom’.

#12  I taught for 25+ years in the university. I taught engineering. Many of my students were distant ed students in the military (Navy pilots, Marine pilots, and Army helicopter pilots). I taught the curriculum and my subject expertise. It is not right to get on a soapbox and spew your political philosophy. This is not academic freedom but fraud foisted upon the students. Get rid of them.

Paranoia Ascending, Part II
The Anchoress

Scene: Coffee Shop. Breakfast, approximately 7AM

First man:
“I dunno, this stock market thing, I question the timing. Yesterday the big story was Al Gore’s energy-usage and suddenly the markets go crazy.”

Second man: “That is weird - do you think someone wanted the Gore story off the front page?”

The whole world is paranoid. The right is as crazy as the left.

And the worst part is, when I heard this fellow’s remarks to his companion, I stared at my breakfast and thought, “wait…could it be? No, of course not! Get a grip!”

And suddenly, I saw an image of George Soros in the grain of my toast…just like one of those visions of Mary baked into a baklava.

From now on, I’m sticking to the baked oatmeal at home. While I’m at it, I’ll re-read Dick Meyer on Political Paranoia.

But clearly, political paranoia is not limited to the right.

Endnote: For the irony or humor challenged…yes, I did hear that exchange. No, I did not see Soros in my toast.

But my eggs…

Part I here.

International-UN-NGOs
Scenes From a UN Love In
By Aaron Goldstein

In order to fully understand how misguided some people are one must sometimes put one’s head inside the lion’s mouth. The lion might not have any teeth but the foul odor emanating from its breath is sufficient to want to cleanse oneself of the experience.

I met such a foul odor a few days ago when I attended a panel discussion on the future of the United Nations at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library. The theme of the discussion was “The UN in the Era of American Power”. A more truthful advertisement would have been “UN Love In: A Tribute to Kofi Annan.” The level of adoration and idolatry poured onto the former UN Secretary General would have made Kim Jong-Il blush. It could have also been advertised, “John Bolton is a Bad, Bad Man.”

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
VDH to Ahmadinejad: "Oh, grow up!"
Victor Davis Hanson

Latest from the sulking Ahmadinejad, hurt and feeling low that the noose might be tightening, "They want to keep science in their hands only ... they don't want the rest of the world to progress."

Aside from the fact that most don't feel Iran's bomb would be "progress," why would the glorious Islamic revolution, and its brilliant Islamic scholars, need science from anyone else's hands? Can't Ahmadinejad go back into his well and conjure up some engineers that are Iranian trained, unpolluted by Zionist physics, and also religiously correct? Once more, one of the most frustrating aspects of the post 9/11 landscape has been this constant teen-age passive-aggressive syndrome, like hurt Hamas whining that we don't support democracy since we don't subsidize elected terrorists. Apparently in between promising to blow up this and wipe out that, these poor jihadists don't feel they get enough attention and help from the Great Satan, all eerily reminiscent of the Sultan scrambling to cast (poor) copies of Venetian bronze cannons so that he could destroy Venetian galleys and impose "superior" Islamic science and culture on the Western Mediterranean.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Who says the "7 words you can't say on TV" on the Internet
Patrick Ismael, "News Buckit" Blog

The Net's not always a kid-friendly place; there is plenty of foul language out there. And of course, the blogosphere is no different.

But how different are the Rightosphere and Leftosphere when it comes to "dirty" language? Which side produces the most profanity-laced diatribes? Via Instapundit, I happened upon this interesting challenge from InstaPunk:

I propose an exercise to be performed by those who have the software and expertise to carry it out. The exercise is this: Search six months' worth of content, posts and comments, of the 20 most popular blogs on the right and the left. The search criteria are George Carlin's infamous '7 Dirty Words.' [Click this link for the list of expletives.]

And this is what I found, using what I deemed -- through a mix of TTLB and 2006's Weblog Award lists -- to be the 18 biggest Lefty blogs, and 22 biggest Righty blogs. I couldn't account for the 6-month time period, and I even gave the Lefty blogs a 4 blog advantage. But it didn't make much of a difference.

So how much more does the Left use Carlin's "seven words" versus the Right? According to my calculations, try somewhere in the range of 18-to-1.

Yowsers.

How did I get this result? I searched Google using the following format and recorded the page results that were returned:

site:xyz.com "search term 1" OR "search term 2" OR "search term 3"...

Nine search terms total -- the seven profanities as single words, and two of those as their own two-word variations. I then added the individual site results together and compared them. . . .

Of course... is anyone surprised? Barring some mass programming shenanigans on the part of Right blogospheric bloggers, this pretty well fits, and goes beyond, the predictions most of us would have made.

Feel free to replicate the experiment and send your results, or if you have a refinement to the method or blog lists, send those, too. We're always willing to add to the profanity data bank.

And of course, this isn't scientific. But hey, it's pretty @*%#$&! close.

Interview w Director of Center for Study of Political Islam
HT to Islam-watch for interview by Frontpage

here is an example of the quantitative analysis the Center does: you probably ought to bookmark this

-------------------
Dualistic systems can only be measured by statistics. It is futile to argue one side of the dualism is true....

For an example of using statistics, look at the question: what is the real jihad, the jihad of inner, spiritual struggle or the jihad of war? Let’s turn to Bukhari (the Hadith) for the answer, as he repeatedly speaks of jihad. In Bukhari 97% of the jihad references are about war and 3% are about the inner struggle. So the statistical answer is that jihad is 97% war and 3% inner struggle. Is jihad war? Yes—97%. Is jihad inner struggle? Yes—3%. So if you are writing an article, you can make a case for either. But in truth, almost every argument about Islam can be answered by: all of the above. Both sides of the duality are right.
-------------------
and an example of the reason why a new type of study of Political islam is needed
----------------------------------

The last reason for our aversion to the history of political Islam is our shame. Islam put over a million Europeans into slavery. Since Muslims can’t be enslaved, it was a white Christian who was the Turkish sultan’s sex slave. These are things that we do not want to face.

Jews don’t want to acknowledge the history of political Islam, because they were dhimmis, second class citizens or semi-slaves, just like the Christians. Jews like to recall how they were advisors and physicians to powerful Muslims, but no matter what the Jew did or what position he held, he was still a dhimmi. There is no compromise between being equal and being a dhimmi

Why should a Hindu want to recall the shame of slavery and the destruction of their temples and cities? After Hindu craftsmen built the Taj Mahal, the Muslim ruler had their right hands cut off so that they could not build anything as beautiful for anyone else. The practice of suttee, the widow throwing herself on the husband’s funeral pyre, came about as a response to the rape and brutality of the Islamic jihad as it sweep over ancient Hindustan.

Blacks don’t want to face the fact that it was a Muslim who rounded up their ancestors in Africa to wholesale to the white slave trader. The Arab is the true master of the African. Blacks can’t accept the common bond they share with whites: that both Europeans and Africans were slaves under Islam. Blacks like to imagine Islam is their counterweight to white power, not that Islam has ruled them for 1400 years.

------------------------------
and the center trys to add the numbers of victims (I had a difficult time following this)
---------------------------------

Half of the glorious Hindu civilization was annihilated and 80 million Hindus killed.

The first Western Buddhists were the Greeks descended from Alexander the Great’s army in what is now Afghanistan. Jihad destroyed all of Buddhism along the silk route. About 10 million Buddhists died. The conquest of Buddhism is the practical result of pacifism.

Zoroastrianism was eliminated from Persia.

The Jews became permanent dhimmis throughout Islam.

In Africa over 120 million Christians and animists have died over the last 1400 years of jihad.

Approximately 270 million nonbelievers died over the last 1400 years for the glory of political Islam. These are the Tears of Jihad which are not taught in any school.

Why the New York Times buried Maj. Bruce Crandall's Medal of Honor on page 15.
Daniel Henninger, Wall Street Journal

. . . Two men have received the Medal of Honor for service in Iraq: Army Sgt. First Class Paul R. Smith, who died defending some 100 fellow soldiers, allowing their withdrawal; and Marine Cpl. Jason L. Dunham, who died after he dove atop a live grenade to protect his squad. (Cpl. Dunham's act was the subject of a 2004 Wall Street Journal story by reporter Michael M. Phillips and later a book, "The Gift of Valor.")

Bruce Crandall's Medal of Honor, at an emotional remove of 42 years, offers a chance to ponder just where the military stands now in the nation's life. The particulars of Lt. Col. Crandall's act of heroism, and what others said of it at the awarding of the medal on Monday, offers we civilians a chance to understand not merely the risks of combat but what animates those who embrace those risks. . . .

At issue today is the question: Is that ethos worth it, worth the inevitable sacrifice? And not only in Iraq but in whatever may lie beyond Iraq?

The secretary of the Army, Francis Harvey, went on in this vein: "The courage and fortitude of America's soldiers in combat exemplified by these individuals is, without question, the highest level of human behavior. It demonstrates the basic goodness of mankind as well as the inherent kindness and patriotism of American soldiers."

An American soldier in combat demonstrates "the basic goodness of mankind"? And the highest level of human behavior? This was not thought to be true at the moment Maj. Crandall was flying those choppers in Vietnam. Nor is it now.

To embrace the thoughts of Gen. Schoomaker and of Secretary Harvey is to risk being accused of defending notions of American triumphalism and an overly strong martial spirit thought inappropriate to the realities of a multilateral world. This is a debate worth having. But we are not having it. We are hiding from it.

In a less doubtful culture, Maj. Crandall's magnificent medal would have been on every front page, if only a photograph. It was on no one's front page Tuesday. The New York Times, the culture's lodestar, had a photograph on its front page of President Bush addressing governors about an insurance plan. Maj. Crandall's Medal of Honor was on page 15, in a round-up, three lines from the bottom. Other big-city dailies also ran it in their news summaries; some--the Washington Post, USA Today--ran full accounts inside.

Most schoolchildren once knew the names of the nation's heroes in war--Ethan Allen, John Paul Jones, Stephen Decatur, the Swamp Fox Francis Marion, Ulysses S. Grant, Clara Barton, Billy Mitchell, Alvin York, Lee Ann Hester. Lee Ann who? She's the first woman to win a Silver Star for direct combat with the enemy. Did it in a trench in Iraq. Her story should be in schools, but it won't be.

All nations celebrate personal icons, and ours now tend to be doers of good. That's fine. But if we suppress the martial feats of a Bruce Crandall, we distance ourselves further from our military. And in time, we will change. At some risk.

#1  Most Americans are button-burstingly proud of our military, and we should be. It's only the traitors in the Democratic Party and the MSM who work overtime to denigrate them and falsely minimize their accomplishments. Am I questioning Dem/MSM patriotism? Damned straight I am. I suspect in WWII a lot of them would have been interned for the duration and a few of them would have been shot.
Posted by: mac || 03/01/2007 6:59 Comments || Top||

#2  I think we give the MSM too much credit. Why is it that in spite of all the bull on the MSM, we have young men and women from all walks of life who still go into the military. It's not only the poor but the priveleged who are going in as we communicate. Bruce Crandall is my hero.
Posted by: Art || 03/01/2007 9:35 Comments || Top||

#3  Mac,

No, Mac, the worst act of MSM treason ever was during WWII when the Chicago Tribune deliberately revealed that we had broken the Japanese military code.

FDR did the smartest thing possible. He totally ignored it and the Japs never caught on.

#4  This is a really well written article that seems to be moving a lot of people today. I posted it right after Mike and, as I type, Dennis Prager is on the radio talking about it. We've gotten so used to this sort of behavior from the MSM that we tend to take it for granted, which makes us complacent about its pernicious effects. More hell needs to be raised about this subject. I salute Daniel Henninger and Dennis Prager for doing their part.
Posted by: ryuge || 03/01/2007 13:26 Comments || Top||

#5  Wasn't the MSM complaining a couple of months ago because so few medals had been awarded in Iraq? Seems to me I saw a segment on the evening news where they had a general trying to justify the situation: it's hard to get a medal for being hit by an IED. And the ROE don't allow you to chase an Iraqi in a loin cloth behind a hooch and shoot him in the back.
Posted by: KBK || 03/01/2007 16:18 Comments || Top||

#6  We in the submarine community know of the Congressional/MSM conspiracy of WW2, when a jackass Congressman in 1942 had to brag that the Japanese "were so stupid about setting their depth charges too shallow". Of course, the NYTwits wanted to print it but couldn't because of wartime censorship. So. they printed it in their overseas editions, where the Jap embassey's could read about it.

Consequently we started losing more subs.
