Not a single one of the reasons listed in the article make any sense when one consders the character of 0bama. The one about Israel seems a pretty good reason for 0bama to NOT take action. I would also be that the argument about regional stability also plays to the 'take no action' option for him as he hopes for higher and higher energy prices to further cripple the US economy and to bring about 'green' change via economic means.

He'll probably try more negotiation. Iran hates Israel, so Obama & Iran are starting from common ground.

All of them seem to be reasons for Obumbles *not* to take military action.
1) Obama wants Zero nukes for the West. So won't care about Iran.
2) I don't think O thinks Iran is irrational - at least not as irrational as those "teabaggers"...
3) As mentioned in other comments - For O this is a good thing.
4) O himself has terrorist ties (Ayers).
5) Again - for O this is a good thing. (Threatens American Hegemony);

G(rom), it's our long-inflicting, myopically pro-Obama troll from the Los Angeles area.
I don't think Mr. Obama will take military action. He would alienate the majority of his political base, for one thing. I don't believe there's little to no support for action within his foreign policy team, for another.
Further, at the risk of sounding pedantic, Iran is not Libya or Egypt. It's closer to Syria in that there's powerful backers, no clear international support for intervention (and hence no coalition), and likely severe political repercussions if things 'go south'.
Factor in domestic and international economic conditions and a weakened political standing, and I'd be quite surprised if anything will happen.

Just like the 1930's when everybody was afraid to deal with Hitler. Nobody could imagine what he would eventually do. These days nobody likes to think about Iran with nukes and the kind of trouble they could make.

Nonsense. President Obama has gotten plenty of credit here at Rantburg for the Predator campaigns, and even for the bin Laden raid. Just because you allow your dislike for us to blind you to reality does not mean we do the same. It does render you pitiable in our eyes, but that can't be helped.
Congratulations on living in Spokeane. I understand there are fewer gangs there, and considerably fewer of the more dreadful kind of Los Angelenos.
My apologies - I had you confused with another myopically pro-Obama troll. What's really embarassing is taht I shoudl have known better, since there are so few of you.

The bloody debacle that is Afghanistan will prevent pre-emptive strikes such as against Iran for a generation.
When the histories are written there will be a straight line from the 'good war' in Afghanistan to outbreaks of regional conflict, likely leading to nuclear exchanges.
People demand that the feds take action against a bad economy, not realizing that the feds more than anyone else are responsible for their misery
19 Statistics About The Poor That Will Absolutely Astound You.
#1 According to the US Census Bureau, the percentage of very poor rose in 300 out of the 360 largest metropolitan areas during 2010.
#2 Last year, 2.6 million more Americans descended into poverty. That was the largest increase that we have seen since the US government began keeping statistics on this back in 1959.
#3 It isnt just the ranks of the very poor that are rising. The number of those just considered to be poor is rapidly increasing as well. Back in the year 2000, 11.3% of all Americans were living in poverty. Today, 15.1% of all Americans are living in poverty.
#4 The poverty rate for children living in the United States increased to 22% in 2010.
#5 There are 314 counties in the United States where at least 30% of the children are facing food insecurity.
#6 In Washington DC, the child food insecurity rate is 32.3%.
#7 More than 20 million US children rely on school meal programs to keep from going hungry.
#8 One out of every six elderly Americans now lives below the federal poverty line.
#9 Today, there are over 45 million Americans on food stamps.
#10 According to The Wall Street Journal, nearly 15 percent of all Americans are now on food stamps.
#11 In 2010, 42 percent of all single mothers in the United States were on food stamps.
#12 The number of Americans on food stamps has increased 74% since 2007.
#13 We are told that the economy is recovering, but the number of Americans on food stamps has grown by another 8 percent over the past year.
#14 Right now, one out of every four American children is on food stamps.
#15 It is being projected that approximately 50 percent of all US children will be on food stamps at some point in their lives before they reach the age of 18.
#16 More than 50 million Americans are now on Medicaid. Back in 1965, only one out of every 50 Americans was on Medicaid. Today, approximately one out of every 6 Americans is on Medicaid.
#17 One out of every six Americans is now enrolled in at least one government anti-poverty program.
#18 The number of Americans that are going to food pantries and soup kitchens has increased by 46% since 2006.
#19 It is estimated that up to half a million children may currently be homeless in the United States.
Now, dear reader, we ask ourselves: how could the most sophisticated, most dynamic, best capitalized, high tech enhanced capitalism in history produce such an outcome?
The answer is simple: capitalism doesnt give you what you want. It gives you what you deserve. And it usually does so with such a long delay that few people connect cause with effect.
Instead, they rant and rave. They blame the rich. They call for more regulation. More distribution. More handouts, subsidies, and bailouts.
They demand that the feds do something! not realizing that the feds more than anyone else are responsible for their misery:
The feds tricked them into spending more than they could afford with artificially low rates and EZ credit.
The feds loaded them up with mortgage debt thanks to their federally subsidized mortgage industry.
The feds practically invented sub-prime mortgage debt; and directed lenders towards the poorest and most vulnerable parts of the society.
The feds enticed old people into complete dependence with the Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare programs.
The feds led the young into debt too with easy student loans that effectively transferred money from them to the education industry.
The feds jimmied the health system into such a mess that Americans now spend 45 times as much as Cubans and have the same life expectancy.
The feds funny money system caused the export of millions of good jobs to emerging markets.
Rise up, ye debt-trodden masses! Rise up against your real enemy: the feds. You have nothing to lose but your chains
As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods -- merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor. This year will be different. This year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by American hands.
Oh.... Yes there is! It is time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper? Everyone -- yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local American hair salon or barber? Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement. Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates. Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plunking down the Benjamins on a Chinese-made flat-screen TV? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course. There are a gazillion owner-run restaurants -- all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint. Remember, folks this isn't about big National chains -- this is about supporting your home town Americans with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open.
How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy?
Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day.
My computer could use a tune-up, and I KNOW I can find some young guy who is struggling to get his repair business up and running.
OK, you were looking for something more personal. Local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves. They make jewelry, and pottery and beautiful wooden boxes.
Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip. And, how about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theatre.
Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands.
Honestly people, do you REALLY need to buy another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house? When you buy a five dollar string of light, about fifty cents stays in the community. If you have those kinds of bucks to burn, leave the mailman, trash guy or babysitter a nice BIG tip.
You see, Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that China can build another glittering city. Christmas is now about caring about US (We the People), encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. And, when we care about other Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we could not imagine.
THIS is the new American Christmas tradition!! Forward this to everyone on your mailing list -- post it to discussion groups. -- throw up a post on Craig's List in the Rants and Raves section in your city. -- send it to the editor of your local paper and radio stations, and TV news departments. This is a revolution of caring about each other, and isn't that what Christmas is about?
Widespread unhappiness with the governments economic policies throughout the course of 2011 is also reflected in a rise in the number of Americans identifying themselves as conservative. As Gallups polling shows, 42 per cent of Americans now call themselves conservative (based on June-August interviews), up from 40 per cent in January-March. At the same time, the percentage of Americans who adhere to a liberal ideology has fallen from 22 to 21 during the same time period. The percentage calling themselves moderate also fell, from 38 per cent to 37 per cent.
While liberalism is in retreat, the United States is becoming an increasingly conservative nation, rejecting interventionist solutions to economic problems, from endless bailouts to suffocating business regulations. As I noted in an earlier piece, Barack Obama could end up being Americas last Big Government president, with future leaders wary of going down the same path of heavy borrowing coupled with excessive spending, that has fuelled spiralling budget deficits.
It is little wonder that 57 per cent of Americans today have little or no confidence in the federal government to solve domestic problems in Gallup polling, with 27 per cent believing the federal government has become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens. On both sides of the Atlantic, governments have tried and failed with top down policies that stifle economic freedom while reducing prosperity. It is a foolhardy approach that is both unsustainable and antithetical to the cause of liberty, and faces a growing conservative revolution in the United States.
A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
