A Leading Climate Scientist Expresses Doubt About the Veracity of the Global Warming Movement-understands that this politicized attribution of all climate change to humans burning hydrocarbon fuels is nonsense.
[AmericanThinker] A new book by a leading climate change scientist gives reason for hope that the light of truth is shedding a few rays into the dark, dystopian, ideologically driven pseudoscience known as global warming.

With the 2023 publication of Climate Uncertainty and Risk: Rethinking Our Response, geoscientist Judith A. Curry, Ph.D., acknowledges that, in 2007, she “joined the consensus” in supporting the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report as “authoritative.” What changed her perspective was Climategate, the 2009 hacking and unauthorized release of emails from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. The email exchanges between climate scientists and IPCC authors confirmed her “concerns and suspicions” that “politics and personal agendas” had encroached on the IPCC assessment process.

In 2017, Curry resigned from a prestigious faculty position as chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology. “As a result of the polarization of climate science, I found that I had lost my love of science in the context of the academic ecosystem,” she admits.

#1  ...There's a wonderful book by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle called Fallen Angels - goes back to the early 90s, I think - wherein the Greens get control of everything and do their worst...only to discover that the only thing holding back the worst of all the Ice Ages was anthropogenic warming. And of course, since they can't possibly be wrong, it must be the fault of the small remnant living in LEO.

Some of the imagery is stunning/terrifying, and a lot of the politics are all too familiar. Between this and D. Keith Mano's The Bridge, you can get a good hard look at what the Greens really want.

#3  If you are a would-be Oligarch wanting to establish a world-spanning "Technocracy" with the elite few naturally in charge (it is great to be the nomenklatura!) then ANY excuse is good enugh. For decades it was the Malthusian Scenario of overpopulation outstripping resources (still is come to think of it), then it was Pollution!!!1!!!, and now it is Global Warming Climate Change. All of these seem to require unelected overlords to reign in the peasants' desire for a good life...

#4  L.E Modessitt writes mostly Sci-Fi but he wrote a novel in 2015 called The Green Progression about the Russian subversion of the American economy through the Green Movement.

-Land of the Free
Article by Dr. James Holmes (J. C. Wylie Chair of Maritime Strategy at the Naval War College) compelling brief on behalf of acquiring conventionally powered attack submarines (SSKs)
[19FortyFive] SSK acquisitions would promise not just capable and affordable platforms but a diplomatic boon. Indivisible alliances stand the best chance of weathering peacetime strategic competition as well as hot war.
Posted by: NoMoreBS || 07/25/2023 00:00 || Comments || Link || [7 views] Top|| File under:

#1  No. The US has two great oceans and nuclear powered submarines have the "legs" to self deploy from one to another efficiently. The "diesel electric" submarine is basically a Self-Deploying Minefield™ and is best used for Coastal Defense -- if the US only had the Caribbean and Atlantic seaboards to defend they would be a good option. Finally, buying foreign built vessels to make foreign shipyards happy (and their politicians happier) seems a remarkably silly justification.
Posted by: magpie || 07/25/2023 0:10 Comments || Top||

#2  ...Actually, we're going to get our SSKs - in a manner of speaking. The USN is evaluating several unmanned drone subs and is likely to have them within service in the next year or so.

I can't fault Dr. Holmes' reasoning, but he also seems to have not noticed the military manpower shortage we're going through right now.

#3  /\ Agree #2. By having a longer range drone to deploy them the US could employ one of the most cost-effective naval weapons ever developed -- the naval mine.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Time is running out for the US: Washington has 'a few months' left
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Irina Alksnis

[RIA] Yesterday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated that the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is not rosy for Kiev and the West, which, according to him, "is going very hard," since "the Russians have created a powerful defense." However, he expressed optimism about Ukraine's prospects at the front, while acknowledging that "it won't be over in the next week or two." According to him, Washington expects "for several months."

Here a natural question arises: what will happen and what to expect if (or rather, when) the hopes of the Americans for the success of the Armed Forces of Ukraine finally collapse? The question is all the more relevant, since Blinken is far from the first to speak of "several months." At the recent NATO summit in Vilnius , different people also made some veiled, and sometimes direct statements that Kiev has a maximum autumn to demonstrate at least some results and return on Western investments in it.

A fairly popular answer to this question is the opinion that even if the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fails completely, this will not fundamentally affect the position of the West, which has made its main bet in Ukraine in the war against Russia. However, adherents of this point of view, while assessing NATO's main anti-Russian card with absolute accuracy, are mistaken in another, much more important aspect.

It may seem insulting, but Russia is not at all the main direction of the application of geopolitical efforts for the United States. This is China , which is directly written in all foreign policy and military-political strategies of Washington. Moreover, this is not a trick or some kind of smoke screen, but a reinforced concrete reality that the Americans are forced to deal with.

Geopolitics is always based on the economy, the struggle for markets, resources, technological leadership, and so on. China, which has become the first (or second, depending on the method of calculation) economy in the world,
...I assume that calculation is before accounting for China’s several very large economic bubbles, exacerbated by the world decoupling from China...
has become the main challenge for the States, which, for their own salvation, simply have no other option but to suffocate and drown a dangerous competitor.

Another thing is that the American strategists reasoned absolutely correctly: as long as China's back is covered by Moscow , which will actively help it in the confrontation with the West, the chances of coping with Beijing are not very high. That is why the first blow was dealt to us.

The idea was brilliant in its simplicity and beauty: in almost any outcome, Russia would somehow get bogged down in Ukraine. And at least a dozen of these outcomes were calculated for our country - from catastrophic (with military defeat and the collapse of statehood) to seemingly triumphant (with taking control of the entire territory of Ukraine - with the need to feed it, which, of course, would turn into a heavy burden for the economy).

In any case, Russia would have been forced to focus on solving internal problems; it simply would not have the strength and resources left for an active foreign policy. Well, a bare rear would make China much more vulnerable in a direct confrontation with the United States and its allies.

However, Moscow managed to pass between Scylla and Charybdis and set such a format for the conflict that now you can’t immediately tell who is more bogged down in Ukraine - Russia or the West. Of course, one can discuss and argue what are the chances of our country to resist NATO in a long war of attrition. But the alliance, or rather the United States, is running out of the most important "ingredient" of such a conflict - time. It ends with them, and very quickly.

In the yard is not the nineties and not even zero. Americans can no longer afford to act in the format of decades and even years. The bill has been going on for months. The processes of the disintegration of their hegemony and the building of alternative international structures not controlled by the States have accelerated critically. The degradation of the Western economy and political influence is proceeding with such acceleration that it is visible to the naked eye.

China is preparing at full speed for the inevitable - because the very logic of the historical process leads to this - a clash with the West and uses any hour of delay to "pump skills" (well, to actively dump its investments in the American public debt).

Thus, every month, week, and even day of military-political concentration on a secondary - from a strategic point of view - Ukrainian direction worsens for the United States their prospects on their main, Chinese, front. Now the Americans are desperately trying to bargain for their precious time - it is no coincidence that high-ranking visitors have been drawn to Beijing in a string (the last, but hardly the last in this series was Henry Kissinger at the end of last week).

However, this cannot fundamentally change anything - soon the States will have to make a decision to withdraw from the Ukrainian project. They do not have the resources to participate in two large-scale conflicts, and they simply cannot afford to leave China alone, since by doing so they are guaranteed to doom themselves to geopolitical collapse.

Without a doubt, the Americans will try to leave Ukraine in such a way as to provide Russia with the maximum number of problems and, as far as possible, save face. But focusing on the Asian theater of operations is vital for them. They only have a few months left to do this.

Government Corruption
WND - 'It's Always Been Obama'
[WND] It's so damn obvious. You'd have to be delusional, naive, a moron or a Democrat not to understand what went down.

You'd have to be delusional, naive, a moron or a Democrat not to understand our country has been sold out.

And you'd have to be blind, deaf and dumb not to understand this wasn't President Joe Biden's plan. Biden has always been former President Barack Obama's "useful idiot."

The answer to every question about who committed the crimes, who sold out our country, who the mastermind is, is always the same ...

IABO: It's Always Been Obama.

It's all out in the open now. Everyone can see Biden is the most corrupt human to ever sit in the White House. It's believed he stole tens of millions of dollars as vice president. He extorted and accepted money from companies and countries around the globe. His son Hunter was the bagman; Joe was "the big guy" who got a large piece of every dirty deal, every bribe ... and then, like Al Capone, he cheated on his taxes.

Biden allegedly hid the money in 20 shell companies ... and in offshore bank accounts ... and paid little or no taxes on all that dirty money. Biden makes Al Capone and the Gambino crime family look like amateur pickpockets.

But you're missing the real story.

What did Obama know and when did he know it? Obama was president when all this went on. Obama was in charge when Biden was robbing us blind. Obama oversaw all this crime, corruption, extortion and tax fraud.

Obama was president when his vice president's son ran around the world on a one-man crime and sex spree. Hunter Biden acted like he represented the United States government, while snorting coke and smoking crack off prostitutes' backs ... while having sex with possibly underage girls, filming it all and putting it on his laptop — opening the entire United States to blackmail.

And you think Obama didn't know about any of this?

Obama was oblivious to the crimes being committed by his vice president? Obama didn't know about the nonstop extortion racket going on right under his nose? Obama didn't know about Hunter's escapades and the blackmail danger he was putting our country in?

No one in the Secret Service told Obama what they were seeing? Not one of Obama's aides noticed that his vice president was crooked? Or that his son was a one-man gangster and sex fiend representing the USA all over the world?

Obama never heard a word about Burisma? Obama didn't know his VP's son was on the board of a foreign company while VP Biden was extorting the president of Ukraine by withholding $1 billion of U.S. foreign aid, in order to force him to fire the prosecutor investigating his son's company? No alarm bells were ringing in the White House? No one in the DOJ or FBI ever warned Obama about what was going on with his vice president?

All DoJ and FBI trails on the Biden lead back to Obama. That's precisely why nothing has been done about it. Everything is backstopped to Obama, the first black president.

#1  We've never heard from Barry Soetoro on any of these scandals have we? No comment on the Trump difficulties. No comment on Ukraine or China. No comment on Hunter or COVID, the border, or anything else. Soetoro is said to be quietly assisting the Biden re-election. Soetoro is in charge of personnel and administration. Operations rests at a higher level.

I'll take it a step further, 'the higher level.' Soetoro is the creation and sock puppet and Deep State agent John Brennan. Yes, the fellow that marshalled the '51 intelligence professionals' document and populated Twitter and 6Jan with LE and agency sources. Brennen is the ops guy, the project guy. Make no mistake.

The 20+ year conflict in AFG, Iraq, and Somalia before that. Now Syria and Ukraine. Conflicts spanning multiple administrations, multiple presidents all the way back to the Kennedy and the 'Bay of Pigs.'

As former Klingon fallen angel John Kiriakou says; "Everybody works for somebody."

#2  Obama is controlled by somebody smart. Brennan has the mentality of a racket ball. Brennan is just a pry bar, not sharp but useful because he is warped. The 51 intelligence experts were just his LinkedIn network of other traitors. Toss in one more dirt bag and you have a deck of cards to hand to Judge Dred. That was an op assigned to him by Obama. Brennen is a toady. Obama works for someone smart with a lot of money. Soros is my guess, but I don’t think Soros is at the top of the heap.

#8  I can't believe that Baraq ever did an honest day's work in his life. Somehow in 2008 he sounded good enough while reading from his teleprompter to get elected. How hard could that have been when he was running against John McCain? Well, he was getting money, instructions and support from somewhere. I honestly don't know where or from whom. Maybe it's Specter and we should get James Bond on the case. Unfortunately, we got Christopher Steele instead. It is some kind of an organization and somebody is the chairman but it is a shadowy organization and their meetings are a well kept secret.

Home Front: WoT
North Dakota Muslim Terrorist Planned to Kill Thousands
by Daniel Greenfield
Mr. Barakat is the second Moslem imported to Fargo who was hit with Sudden Jihad Syndrome, as it turns out.
[FrontPage] Mohamad Barakat packed three long guns, four handguns and a vest with magazines in every pocket, as he drove through Fargo, North Dakota. The Downtown Street fair, which claims over 150,000 visitors, was on its second day and 5 minutes away. The Red River Fair, which recorded nearly as many people, was two days away from ending and 15 minutes away.

It’s unknown which of those locations Mohamad might have been headed to use up his 1,800 rounds of ammo and hand grenade, but he never got there.

The Muslim terrorist joined other rubberneckers who stopped to look over the scene of an accident, but unlike them Mohamad was after more than a few pictures to put up on social media. The concentration of police officers and firefighters had proven to be irresistible.

Al Qaeda and ISIS both encourage crowdsourced Muslim terrorists to take out law enforcement officers before hitting civilians. And Muslim terrorists, like the attacker who came after NYPD officers in Times Square with a machete during the New Year’s Eve ball drop, have done that.

Mohamad was packing a whole lot more than a machete. Pretending to be a casual observer, he hung around waiting until police officers were passing nearby and then he opened fire.

The Muslim terrorist raised his rifle and shot through the open car window of his gray sedan, ambushing three Fargo police officers, shooting and killing Officer Jake Wallin, an Afghanistan and Iraq war vet who had recently joined the force, and wounding Officer Andrew Dotas and Officer Tyler Hawes. He also shot and wounded Karlee Koswick: a young woman who had been in the accident. Dotas and Hawes were saved by their flak jackets and by the courageous firefighters on the scene who stayed under cover while Mohamad shot at them, but then rushed to help the wounded officers and kept them alive until they could be brought to a hospital.

And then Mohamad ran into trouble.
