US anthropological association votes to boycott Israeli academia over ‘apartheid’
[IsraelTimes] Decision, voted down 7 years ago, is adopted with 70% majority, but does not apply to individual Israeli academics

An association for American anthropologists
...so they know exactly what is wrong with this thing they choose to do...
has voted to formally boycott Israeli academic institutions, seven years after shutting down a similar vote, in a sign of the shifting tides of the Israel debate on American college campuses.

The American Anthropological Association (AAA), which represents thousands of anthropologists in academia and the professional space, announced Monday that its members had voted to endorse a resolution that forbids the association from collaborating with Israeli academic institutions. More than 70 percent of the association’s voters supported the boycott, though only 37% of its eligible members voted, the association said.

The boycott applies only to formal collaborations with the association itself, and it does not apply to individual Israeli academics, so its practical impact is likely to be limited. Still, the resolution is a notable symbol of opposition to Israel in US academia, not least because it reverses a similar vote from several years ago.

"This was indeed a contentious issue, and our differences may have sparked fierce debate," the group’s president, Ramona Pérez, said in a statement. "But we have made a collective decision and it is now our duty to forge ahead, united in our commitment to advancing scholarly knowledge, finding solutions to human and social problems, and serving as a guardian of human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
As written, the resolution calls Israel an "apartheid regime from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea." It pledges to continue the boycott "until such time as these institutions end their complicity in violating Paleostinian rights as stipulated in international law."

In 2016, the AAA’s membership narrowly rejected a resolution to boycott Israeli institutions. Since then, several academic groups have taken concrete steps toward boycotting Israel. The Middle East Studies Association voted last year to endorse the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement targeting Israel; other academic groups, including the American Studies Association, have also backed BDS resolutions.

Pro-Israel groups quickly condemned the AAA vote. Tammi Rossman-Benjamin, director of the AMCHA Initiative, a pro-Israel campus advocacy group, called it "a dark day for higher education" and said the group’s "commitment to academic BDS is likely to spread throughout the university like wildfire and have rippling effects for years to come."

Another pro-Israel group, the Deborah Project legal firm, threatened to sue the association in the lead-up to the vote, claiming the resolution as written would put it afoul of laws in some states endorsing the International Holocaust Remembrance Association’s definition of antisemitism.

The results of the vote, which took place in mid-July, were announced the same day that Israel’s Knesset voted into law a controversial judicial reform bill that has divided the country and prompted fears that it would erode the government’s checks and balances.

The AAA’s boycott focuses on Israel’s treatment of Paleostinians, accusing Israeli academic institutions of being "complicit" in the state’s alleged crimes by suppressing academic freedom and hindering Paleostinian universities. The resolution also ties the AAA’s advocacy to anthropology by noting Israel has used "anthropological frameworks and methods" to further "ethnic cleansing."

Doesn't that calculate to mean that less than 30 percent of members agree?

#4  Liberal Activism at play again.

Blame and punish innocent parties and professional groups for the actions of its political leaders

In this case, Israeli political leaders trying to control a group of terrorists constantly attacking its innocent people for 80+ years solely for religious reasons.

PLO -a religious terrorist group that has broken just about every UN / USA negotiated agreement to date also.

So basically the AAA membership and its new Executive Director Ady Arguelles-Sabatier voted politically like liberal and not scientists.

BTW: American Anthropological Association also tried this stunt back 2016, but fail narrowly. Plus the AAA now has a more Politically Vocal Activist based group spouting off regularly.

OBTW: The N.E.A. also held a vote against Israel back in July 2021, and it failed 73% / 23%.

#5  Also curious as to how many scientists, of the 70% who didn't vote, don't renew their memberships.

Were they even aware of the vote. That's also a time-honored tactic of the left.

#6  The convention attendees are apparently far more radical than the general membership, According to Al Ahram today, BDS supporters have been working toward this result since 2004:

The American Anthropological Association (AAA), the world's largest scholarly and professional organization of anthropologists, announced that it has passed a resolution endorsing a boycott of Israeli academic institutions, in a statement on Monday.

During the all-member referendum held from 15 June to 14 July, 37 percent of eligible members voted, with 71 percent supporting the resolution and 29 percent opposing it.

The AAA's academic institutional boycott only involves refraining from formal collaborations with Israeli academic institutions and does not affect individual scholars and students affiliated with these institutions. The association is still committed to protecting academic freedom and promoting the dissemination of anthropological knowledge.

Founded in 1902, the AAA has over 10,000 members who are anthropologists from various institutions worldwide, including universities, research institutions, museums, government agencies, non-profits, and corporations.

The Executive Board of the AAA has authorized several actions that align with the association's core values and goals, including barring Israeli academic institutions from being listed in AAA's published materials, advertising in its publications, using its conference facilities for job interviews, participating in the AAA Graduate School Fair, participating in the AAA Departmental Services Programme, participating in joint conferences or events with AAA and its sections, and republishing or reprinting articles from AAA publications in journals and publications owned by Israeli institutions, as per the statement.

Individuals affiliated with Israeli academic institutions can still attend AAA conferences, even if their institutions have paid for their expenses, as the boycott does not prohibit them from registering and participating.

AAA journal articles can still be reprinted or republished in journals not owned by Israeli institutions, which are edited by individuals affiliated with Israeli academic institutions.

Individuals affiliated with Israeli academic institutions can still serve as journal editors or elected officials in AAA, even if their institutions cover the related expenses. Israeli university libraries can subscribe to AAA journals, including AnthroSource.

The resolution has empowered the Executive Board to create an implementation plan, including outlining the process for considering lifting the boycott. The AAA will only end the institutional boycott when a group of experts, commissioned for this purpose, reaches a consensus that Israeli academic institutions have significantly ceased their complicity in violating Palestinian rights, as per international law.

The Executive Board will review and assess the situation every five years or as required and decide whether to maintain the boycott.

“This was indeed a contentious issue, and our differences may have sparked fierce debate, but we have made a collective decision and it is now our duty to forge ahead, united in our commitment to advancing scholarly knowledge, finding solutions to human and social problems, and serving as a guardian of human rights,” said a statement from Ramona L. Pérez, a professor of anthropology at San Diego State University and president of the association.

The resolution also offers a view of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stating that “The Israeli state operates an apartheid regime from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, including the internationally recognized state of Israel, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank,” and that “Israeli academic institutions are complicit in the Israeli state’s regime of oppression against Palestinians…including by providing research and development of military and surveillance technologies used against Palestinians.”

According to Pérez, the actions taken by the AAA can increase critical awareness of peace and conflict dynamics in the region and broaden the scope for dialogue on sensitive and crucial human rights and academic freedom concerns.

The AAA's approval of the resolution marks a significant change in the association's stance on the matter. In November 2015, attendees at the annual meeting overwhelmingly voted in favour of a boycott by a margin of 1,040 to 136. However, when the entire membership was surveyed in 2016, the proposal was narrowly defeated.

Opposing the boycott, certain pro-Israel groups have threatened to take legal action against the AAA.

The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) launched the academic boycott campaign against Israeli academic and cultural institutions in April 2004 as part of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. Since then, various academic groups have taken concrete steps to boycott Israel, such as the Middle East Studies Association, which supported the BDS movement in 2020.

The American Studies Association and other academic groups have also backed BDS resolutions.

The academic boycott campaign against Israel has also gained traction in universities and institutions outside the US. In the UK, the University of London, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Manchester have passed resolutions in support of the boycott.

Likewise, the University of Cape Town, the University of Witwatersrand, and the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa have endorsed the boycott, along with Trinity College Dublin, the University College Dublin, and the Queen's University Belfast in Ireland. Additionally, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the University of São Paulo in Brazil, as well as the University of Leuven and the Free University of Brussels in Belgium, have also adopted resolutions supporting the boycott.

-appointed mayor of Maimana, the capital city of the province, has been detained by the group’s intelligence agency on allegations of illegally selling government and private lands.

According to the sources, Mowaffaq was apprehended on Sunday, July 23, along with nine of his guards.

While the mayor’s guards were released after disarming, Damullah Mowaffaq himself remains in jug at the intelligence prison.

Based on information from the sources, over 160 Faryab residents have filed complaints against Mowaffaq at the Taliban’s intelligence office in the province, accusing him of land extortion and seizure.

Local Taliban officials in Faryab have refrained from making any official statements on the matter.

Mullah Mohammad Movaffaq was one of the Taliban commanders who, upon the group’s return to power, received the appointment as the mayor of Maimana, acknowledging his military service.

It is worth noting that recently, Sayed Idris Hashemi, the director-general of municipal properties in Maimana, was also arrested by the Taliban’s intelligence agency for alleged involvement in financial corruption.

Meanwhile,

Kenya deploys more soldiers along Somalia border
[Garowe] Kenya has deployed more soldiers along the common border with Somalia, with the country now stemming efforts to defeat al-Shabaab

hard boys, who have been encroaching northeastern region, killing several security officers in the process.

Sources from the Ministry of Defence say the soldiers will be stationed in 14 Forward Operating Bases [FOBs] along the border, with others expected to be withdrawn from Somalia in compliance with Somali Transition Plan [STP] that will affect peacekeepers.

Last week, Defence Minister Aden Duale visited most parts of Northeastern Kenya where he persuaded locals and members of security teams to work together with an aim of defeating al-Shabaab. Previously, Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki had also visited the region.

Last month, Kindiki announced Kenya's last-minute decision to postpone re-opening of Kenya-Somalia border, which had been scheduled for opening in three phases. The minister linked the delay with increased al-Shabaab activities within Kenyan soil.

Leaders from Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Lamu have also vowed to support the government in the fight against al-Shabaab, noting that such a move will in long run give confidence to locals. Addressing a joint meeting in Wajir last week, Lamu East MP Ruweida Obbo said the outlawed group has hurt the normal lives of residents.

"All roads are blocked by the security operation, meaning that people cannot move freely," she said.

Present were the governorc of Mandera, Wajir and Garissa, local MPs as well as administration a nd security officials led by Northeastern regional commissioner John Otieno. The leaders resolved to combine political and security strategies to ensure residents do not harbour any sympathy for the outfit, The Star reports.

The leaders lamented that the group was recruiting youths from the region, asking security teams to devise ways of preventing al-Shabaab from radicalizing locals. Mandera Governor Mohammed Adan Khalif had claimed al-Shabaab's presence in his county is currently at 60 percent.

"The group has a field day in luring the despondent youth into its ranks or as sympathisers," Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi said.

In coming months, the Kenya Defense Forces is expected to participate in the second phase of operations against al-Shabaab which will mainly focus on Jubaland and Southwest states. Somalia had asked for assistance from members of KDF who are not part of African Union

Afghan judge wins legal battle to stay in UK
[ScottishLegal] An Afghan judge, known by the pseudonym "Yosra" for safety reasons, has won her two-year legal battle with the Home Office and has been granted permission to enter the UK.

Yosra, who has overseen cases involving the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
in crimes such as murder and kidnapping, was initially not part of the evacuation from Kabul despite being deemed eligible for resettlement under the Afghan relocations and assistance policy by British officials.

Yosra’s lawyers, from the firms Jenner & Block and Kingsley Napley, announced her victory on Thursday. The lawyers, who worked pro bono, expressed their satisfaction that both Yosra and her adult son "have been granted permission to enter the United Kingdom". The pair, who were in hiding in Pakistain fearing Taliban retaliation or deportation to Afghanistan, arrived in June and reunited with their family members in the UK.

The law firms praised Yosra’s career, saying: "During her two-decade long career, the judge held senior positions in the Afghan criminal court system."

They added: "She adjudicated cases involving the Taliban in crimes such as murder, kidnapping, violence against women, rape, terrorism offences, and conspiring against the Afghan government."

Speaking about the legal victory, Yosra said: "Our initial hope to be granted a visa to come to the UK over time turned into hopelessness and despair". However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
she and her son now rejoice at their newfound safety in the UK, "We still cannot believe that the dream we didn’t even dare to dream for so long has finally become a reality."

The mother and son are now focusing on their future in the UK, with Yosra learning English, and her son, a law graduate, aiming to acquire a UK legal qualification.

A Home Office spokesperson affirmed their commitment to protecting those at risk, "including female judges", and confirmed that they have already brought approximately "24,500 people to the UK".

UK remands Islamist preacher in custody on terror charges
Both arrested a week ago, but clearly not to be trusted out on bail until convicted and starting their formal prison sentences.
[IsraelTimes] Radical holy man Anjem Choudary was arrested together with a Canadian man; both are charged with being members of a terrorist organization

British Islamist preacher Anjem Choudary
...self-proclaimed holy man who used to work for Omar Mohammed Bakdri as spokesman for al-Muhajiroun. Anjem is a loathesome little attention prostitute who is to be heard cheering for the home team anytime anybody with a turban manages to slaughter a group of unarmed infidels. Anjem was born in the UK in 1967 and is, as you would expect, of Pakistaini descent. The Ghost of Dante is of the opinion that when he goes to hell his knees will be broken once a month. He was in jug for awhile for supporting the Islamic State...
was remanded in jug by a UK magistrate on Monday, after London’s Metropolitan police charged him with three terrorism offenses.

Choudary, 56, faces charges of belonging to a proscribed organization, addressing meetings to encourage support for a proscribed organization and directing a terrorist organization, the force said.

A 28-year-old Canadian, Khaled Hussein,
...anyone know what his birth name was? He somehow doesn’t look like a Khaled...
was also ordered held in jug after he was charged with membership of a proscribed organization.

Both appeared separately at Westminster Magistrates Court in London, which heard that the charges relate to "an extreme form of Islam."

"The charges relate to the proscribed organization al-Muhajiroun
...formerly Omar Bakri Muhammad's spin off group from Hizb ut-Tahrir in Britain, where the detestable lunatic Anjem Chaudry got his start. More recently the name adopted by al-Qaeda in East Africa for operations in Kenya and Tanzania. It is subordinate to al-Shabaab but will probably be strong enough to fly on its own, given an uninterrupted flow of petrodollars, should the Shaboobs collapse....
, also known as the Islamic Thinkers Society," prosecutor Nick Price said.
Anjem Choudary’s branch fed fighters to both Al Qaeda and ISIS, being the connection to oodles of vicious men in our archives and beyond.
"Criminal proceedings against Mr. Choudary and Mr. Hussein are now active and they each have the right to a fair trial," he added.

Chief magistrate Paul Goldspring ordered the pair remanded in jug and set their next appearance, at the central criminal courthouse known as the Old Bailey, on August 4.

Choudary, from east London, wore a black jacket and glasses, and spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address during Monday’s 30-minute court hearing. He was not asked to enter any pleas to the three charges.

A lawyer for Hussein, who is from Edmonton in the Canadian province Alberta, said he would not be entering a plea. The defendant spoke — in a Canadian accent — only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

He is alleged to have been in "close contact" with Choudary online to provide "a platform" for the group’s views for around two years, the court heard.

Counterterror officers investigating alleged membership of the proscribed organization arrested both men last Monday, the Metropolitan police has said.

Officers detained Choudary in east London and held Hussein at Heathrow Airport after he arrived on a flight.
The BBC has a photo of the weedy, Canadian-looking Mr. Hussein, adding:
Mr Hussein is charged with being a member of Al Muhajiroun. Prosecutors allege he helped set up its Canadian branch and say he was "in effect working for" Choudary.

An offshoot of Al-Muhajiroun was banned, or proscribed, in 2006 for glorifying terrorism.

That ban was expanded in 2010 to include a number of other names, including Al-Muhajiroun.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Chechen emigrants in Europe oppose the deportation of Ali Bataev
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Actions were held at the Swiss embassies in Germany and Sweden today demanding that Ali Bataev, who arrived from Ukraine, be not deported to Russia, Mokhmad Abdurakhmanov, a representative of the Chechen human rights association Vayfond, said. Security forces are putting pressure on Batayev's relatives living in Chechnya, said Zainap Gashayeva, a representative of the "European House of Peace" organization.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 14 it became known that the Swiss authorities considered the stay in the country of Ali Bataev, a native of Chechnya, who arrived from Ukraine, to be illegal and intend to deport him to Russia. Bataev went on a hunger strike, as he is sure that he will be persecuted by the Chechen authorities. On July 21, protests were held in Switzerland, Austria and Germany against the deportation of Bataev to Russia.

Today, two rallies were held in Berlin and Stockholm in front of the Swiss embassies, Mokhmad Abdurakhmanov ( also referred to in the media as Muhammad or Mohammad, - note of the "Caucasian Knot" ), said on the air of the Dozhd TV channel. He noted that at the rally in Germany, its participants handed over a resolution to a representative of the Swiss security service demanding that Bataev not be extradited to Russia.

"He was not sent to Chechnya only because there are some formalities on the part of Russia, and Switzerland is ready to extradite him back," Abdurakhmanov said. He added that the reason for the expulsion was that, at the request of Russia, Bataev was included in the international wanted database.

Earlier, when announcing the rallies on the Vayfond Telegram channel, Abdurakhmanov stressed that Switzerland believes that Ali Bataev is not in danger on the territory of Russia and that an exceptionally fair refereeing awaits him. According to him, this approach demonstrates the "double standards" of the Swiss authorities.

The security forces are trying to put pressure on Bataev's relatives to force him to agree to deportation, said Zainap Gashayeva, head of the European House of Peace human rights organization. “It is not yet known whether his relatives were taken somewhere, but they were interviewed, the security forces were interested in relations with Bataev,” Kavkaz.Realii quoted her as saying.

The "Caucasian Knot" also wrote that on April 16 it became known that a court in Croatia had refused to grant international protection and political refugee status to five natives of Chechnya. The court motivated the refusal by the fact that they could be "Islamic extremists." On April 24, human rights activists reported that six natives of Chechnya were on hunger strike at a deportation center in Croatia, protesting against the denial of refugee status due to suspicions of extremism.

On May 9, it became known that  the hunger strike was suspended due to the lack of response from the authorities and the deteriorating health of the refugees. On May 24, it became known that a court in Croatia found one of the refugees from Chechnya not guilty of involvement in extremism and decided to release him from the deportation camp. July 23 it became known10 natives of Chechnya who applied for international protection were granted refugee status to two more.

Europe
Italy hosts migration conference to extend Tunisia deal
[Dawn] Italia hosted numerous national leaders in Rome on Sunday, at a conference aimed at extending an EU-backed deal with Tunisia to curb the arrival of migrants colonists to European shores.

As presidents, premiers and ministers prepared to huddle for the talks, Pope Francis
...Argentine liberation theologist, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio. He was elected pope in 2013. Rather than setting up shop in Avignon, where he belongs, the first Jesuit Pope chose to reside in the Domus Sanctae Marthae guesthouse instead of the papal apartments. He is big on climate change, against consumerism, and in favor of throwing a blanket over homosexual activity within the clergy. He's not real sure about the Resurrection, about Christ's divinity, and a few other things that would have gotten him burned at the stake a few hundred years ago, but he's hot for a certain South American Earth Mother Goddess...
appealed to them to help the scores of people who try to enter Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
each year in search of a better life as they flee poverty and conflict.

"The Mediterranean can no longer be the theatre of death and inhumanity", the pontiff said during his weekly Angelus prayer.

Italia’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said talks would focus on illegal and legal immigration, refugee support and "the most important... wide cooperation to support development in Africa".

During the 2022 election campaign that brought her to power, the far-right Meloni vowed to "stop the disembarkation" of migrants colonists in Italia, which the government puts at nearly 80,000 coastal arrivals since January, compared to 33,000 in the same period last year.

But while the government has put obstacles in the path of humanitarian ships rescuing migrants colonists in the Mediterranean, it has failed to stop the departures themselves, which mostly originate in Tunisia and Libya.

Italia and the European Commission have sought to step up engagement with Tunisia, promising funding if it stems emigration from its territory.

Meloni has also sought to act as an intermediary between Tunisia — cash-strapped and on the cusp of a major debt crisis — and the International Monetary Fund, where a nearly $2 billion bailout package for the North African country has stalled amid an IMF demand for structural reforms. Last week, the EU signed a memorandum of understanding with Tunisia that provides for 105 million euros ($117 million) in direct European aid to prevent the departure of migrant boats and combat smugglers.

Iraq Withdraws From World Fencing Championship Over Israel's Participation
Other international sport organizations expel teams that refuse to compete against another member...
[Shafaq News] The Iraqi Fencing & Modern Pentathlon Federation decided on Monday to withdraw its team from competing against Israeli players at FIE Fencing World Championships held in Milan, Italia, from 22-30 July.

Last May, the Iraqi team also withdrew from the individual races in the World Fencing Championship held in Istanbul after refusing to confront Israel.

"The draw put the Iraqi team in a group that includes Israel, so our players withdrew from the individual competitions," said Azhar Ali, the director of the Federation's media.

"The withdrawal is limited to confrontations with Israel, and our players will participate in other competitions with the teams of the participating countries," Ali said, stressing that "the Iraqi Federation will not be punished as a result of the withdrawal, as we are aware of international regulations."

He pointed out that "the withdrawal came out of well-established national principles, obedience to the religious authority, and implementation of the decisions of the government and parliament that criminalize normalization with Israel."

Iraq and Israel have traditionally been considered enemies due to Iraq's alignment with other Arab states and the wider Moslem world in their opposition to Israel, which they view as an occupying force in Paleostine and a threat to regional stability.

In 2022, Iraq's parliament passed a law that makes it a crime to normalize ties with Israel, and law violations can be punishable with a death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
or life imprisonment.

The law, titled "Criminalising Normalisation and Establishment of Relations with the Zionist Entity," was approved with 275 politicians voting in favor of it in Iraq's 329-seat assembly.

The law was proposed by influential Shia holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr

whose party, which opposes close ties with the United States and Israel, won more seats in the Iraqi parliament in the last elections before he withdrew from the political arena.

Iraq
KRG announces the start of the second phase of the IDP ‘voluntary’ return
[Shafaq News] The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) declared the beginning of the voluntary return of displaced people.

The Kurdish Minister of Interior, Rebar Ahmed, announced in a presser "the second phase of the voluntary return of the internally displaced persons (IDP)," noting that "the first phase included the voluntary return of 444 families to their areas of origin."

"All parties must intensify efforts to restore stability to this region, which falls within Article 140 of the Iraqi constitution."

Article 140 is a provision that sets out a three-stage process for resolving the status of the disputed territories. The first stage is normalization, the second is census, and the third is the referendum. The deadline for implementing Article 140 has passed but has not yet been implemented due to political disagreements and security concerns.

Ahmed confirmed that the "KRG has spared no effort to restore stability to these areas," stating that the Kurdistan's doors will remain open to everyone who has been subjected to "injustice" and emphasizing the continuance of the voluntary return process in the Nineveh Plains and Sinjar district.

He also called on the federal government "to implement the Sinjar Agreement to provide the return of the Yazidis, as there are more than 300,000 displaced Yazidis in the Kurdistan Region pending the implementation of this agreement."

According to an April 2023 report from the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre-JCC of the KRG, about one million displaced persons and refugees live in Iraqi Kurdistan, including 664,224 IDPs and 246,810 Syrian, 7,860 Ottoman Turkish, 8,241 Iranian, and 615 Paleostinian refugees.

Philippine president vows to defend territory, announces amnesty for rebels in key speech
[AlAhram] Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday underscored his administration’s resolve to defend the country’s territory through diplomacy in a key speech but did not mention China, with which it has had an escalating series of conflicts in the disputed South China Sea.

Marcos also announced in his state-of-the-nation speech to Congress that he would offer an amnesty to armed murderous Moslems and would crack down on smugglers and hoarders of agricultural products, whom he blamed for steep spikes in food prices.

Despite an array of problems and uncertainties sparked in part by the war in Ukraine, Marcos said the dedication and patriotism he had seen among Filipino workers in and out of government have kept him optimistic.

Turkey deports 140 Syrian refugees to Idlib, 60 to Aleppo
[NPASyria] Ottoman Turkish authorities deported on Monday evening 140 Syrian refugees, including a pregnant woman, to areas in the Idlib Governorate, northwest Syria, through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing, raising the number of deportees today to 200 towards northern and northwestern Syria.

An administrative source at the Bab al-Hawa crossing told North Press that "the Ottoman Turkish authorities deported around 140 Syrian refugees to Idlib through the Bab al-Hawa crossing, including 37 women with their children, one of whom is in her seventh month of pregnancy, without informing their relatives residing in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
of the arrest and the deportation of their children."

The source added that the Ottoman Turkish authorities took the eye and hand prints and all their identification documents to prevent them from returning to Turkey.

Earlier today, the Ottoman Turkish authorities deported 60 people through the Bab al-Salamah crossing, north of Aleppo, raising the total number of deportees to 200 people during the past 24 hours.

Though Syria is still unsafe for returns, Turkey tries to get rid of the refugees by forcibly deporting them, as the Ottoman Turkish authorities have intensified the forced deportation of Syrians, as part of what they call voluntary return to safe areas in northwestern Syria, according to media and documentary reports.

Since the beginning of July, the Ottoman Turkish authorities have launched a campaign against the Syrian refugees, especially in Istanbul, where activists say more than 800 people have been deported since the beginning of July.
Ottoman Turkish authorities deported 60 Syrian refugees via the Bab al-Salama border crossing in the north of the city of Azaz, northwestern Syria.

A source told North Press that the deportees, including children and women, had been in jug in the Ottoman Turkish state of Gaziantep.

The source added that most of those refugees were deported despite having valid temporary protection ID cards (kimlik).

The source said that among the deportees were two girls from Afrin, northwest Syria, who were arrested in a hospital in Istanbul while waiting for their sick mother.

Ottoman Turkish authorities continue to carry out arrest campaigns against Syrian refugees under the pretext of committing offences. After that, they deport them to Syria, claiming they do not have the necessary legal documents to stay in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Report: Iran supports group that threatens US, Israel from Syria
[Shafaq News] Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
is supporting forces in Syria that are "preparing and gathering capabilities to be able to cause a threat to American forces in Syria and to Israel," an unnamed official told Newsweek’s Tom O’Connor on Friday. The revelation sheds light on Iranian-backed fighter divisions in Syria that have actually been a threat to the region for years.

"Armed with precision-guided munitions and both attack and spy drones, along with a broad array of lighter weaponry, the division conducted an intensive barrage of drone and rocket attacks that hit the US military garrison in southeastern al-Tanf in October 2021, according to the intelligence official," Newsweek reported.

According to the report, this information is based on an "intelligence official, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the information."

Nevertheless, this information has been provided to US officials, the article said, shedding light on what it called the Imam Hossein Division, which is linked to the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

"The Division represents a multi-national combat force made up of thousands of fighters from around the Middle East... Today, the Division’s structure maintains thousands of fighters in the Syrian arena," the report said. "Most of the operatives are Syrian, although some are from Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
, Afghanistan, Pakistain, Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, Sudan, and other countries."

The group has "powerful and robust capabilities," the report said, adding that the unit has fighters from a number of countries that Iran has drawn support from in the past, including Lebanon and Yemen, and Shi’ites from Pakistain and Afghanistan.

The report referenced past attacks, such as in January 2019, when a rocket was fired at Israel. The IDF at the time said: "The Iranian Quds Force fired an Iranian-made rocket from Syrian territory at a civilian ski resort on Mount Hermon, northern Israel... [the] Iron Dome Aerial Defense System successfully intercepted the rocket before it could harm any civilians."

The report also mentioned the drone threat that emerged near the Golan Heights later that year in August, which led to Israel taking out a "killer drone" team that month.

THE PRESENCE of Iran’s international unit of fighters in Syria is not new. Since the Syrian Civil War began in 2011, Iran has been helping the Syrian regime, recruiting men from Shi’ite communities in Afghanistan, Pakistain and Iraq to join, including Hezbollah. At first, some went to defend a shrine near Damascus before engaging in other battles.

Claims that Iran formed a "second Hezbollah in Syria" date as far back as 2014, and they were also made by IRGC Gen. Hossein Hamedani, according to an article in 2016 by Phillip Smyth at the Washington Institute for Near East Studies. Hamedani named the unit as Liwa al-Imam al-Hussein (LIH), which was "deployed to the southern city of Daraa and north of Damascus in Qalamoun." Hamedani was killed in 2015.

"Iranian-backed gunnies are building new military sites south of Damascus City, likely as part of the Iranian effort to secure transportation routes throughout Syria and connecting to the Golan Heights and Lebanon," the Institute for the Study of War wrote last month. "The Iranian-backed Iraqi Imam Hussein Brigades seized land to build a military headquarters and storage center in Khan al Shih in southern Damascus in mid-June. Lebanese Hezbollah also seized land for a headquarters and underground storage facility about 12 miles away, near the Mezzeh Military Airport, on June 17."

According to the Newsweek report, the Imam Hossein unit was formed in 2016 by Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani. The unit’s name is shared with many Imam Hossein sites and entities in Iraq or linked to Iran and Shi’ite Moslem tradition. There is an Imam Hossein (Hussein) shrine in Karbala, Iraq. There is an Imam Hossein University in Tehran linked to the IRGC.

Berri, Bassil refuse any extension of Salameh's term
[An Nahar] A technical extension of Central Bank chief Riad Salameh’s term, his reappointment to the post or tasking him with acting in caretaker capacity "are all impossible ideas that no one can tolerate," Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
...Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, head of the Amal Shiite party aligned with Hezbollah, a not very subtle sock puppet of the Medes and Persians...
has reportedly said.

As for Salameh’s four vice governors, Berri said that the best move would be their "resignation and their acting in caretaker capacity until the appointment of a new governor and new vice governors at a later stage," al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Monday.

A source close to Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
chief Jebran Bassil meanwhile told al-Jadeed TV that Salameh "will not be tasked with anything after July 31."

"He will not act in caretaker capacity, his term won’t be renewed or extended and not even a consultancy contract will be signed with him. This is what caretaker PM Najib Mikati has pledged to the political parties," the source added.

"The FPM believes that the most appropriate solution is the appointment of a judicial guard on whom the political forces would agree and names such as Naim Abou Jaoude, Karim Saade and Samir Assaf have been proposed, but the rest of the political parties have rejected the proposal," the sources said.

Iran shutters e-commerce giant over photos of female employees without headscarves
[IsraelTimes] In new crackdown, authorities shut down one office of Digikala online retailer, nearly a year after the morality police largely melted away in the face of widespread protests.

Iranian authorities have shut down one of the offices of the country’s biggest e-commerce company and launched judicial procedures after it published pictures online showing female employees not wearing the mandatory Islamic headscarf, semi-official media reported.

The move appears to be part of a new campaign launched last week to impose the Islamic dress code nearly a year after the morality police largely melted away in the face of widespread protests.

Digikala, informally known as "Iran’s Amazon," appears to have run afoul of the rules by posting pictures of a corporate gathering in which several female employees were not wearing the hijab.

The company boasts more than 40 million active monthly users and hosts over 300,000 merchants. Iranians are largely cut off from international retailers like Amazon because of Western sanctions linked to the country’s disputed nuclear program.

The website of Iran’s Hamshahri daily, which is affiliated with the municipality of the capital, Tehran, reported late Sunday that one of Digikala’s offices had been sealed. It said the website was operating normally.

The website of Iran’s judiciary said court cases had been filed in connection with the photos, without elaborating.

Nationwide protests erupted last fall after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died in the custody of the morality police. She appears to have been detained for violating the country’s dress code, which requires that both men and women dress conservatively and that women cover their hair in public.

The protests, in which women played a leading role, quickly escalated into calls for the overthrow of Iran’s theocracy, which took power after the 1979 revolution. Authorities responded with a heavy crackdown in which more than 500 protesters were killed and nearly 20,000 were detained. The protests largely faded at the start of this year but there are still widespread signs of discontent.

After the protests began, the morality police largely vanished from the streets and many women — particularly in Tehran and other cities — stopped wearing the hijab.

But officials insisted throughout the crisis that the rules had never changed. Iran’s ruling holy mans view the hijab as a key pillar of the Islamic Theocratic Republic and consider Western-style dress to be a sign of decadence.

Last week, the morality police returned to the streets as officials announced a new campaign to force women to wear the hijab.
