Dubai: The U.S.'s Back Door To Iran
NO, it's not about a white whale....A long read, but worth the slog...I am especially entertained by the P&G position of protecting Iranian consumers by violating US Sanctions.....marketing wench.....SHEESH!:

The ship’s captain asks if I’m looking to smuggle something. We’re standing alongside a busy stretch of Port Saeed, on Dubai Creek, which is not actually a creek but a mucky Palmolive-green waterway, trash-strewn and oily, that stretches about eight miles through a thicket of shiny skyscrapers before draining into the Persian Gulf. It’s March, the sun is blasting down; the air is redolent of diesel fuel. The captain’s name is Khaled, and he’s headed to Bandar Abbas, Iran—about 100 miles northeast, nine hours by sea. “We’re leaving in a week,” he says.

#1  Seems to me that if the USDOS really cared, they could pay a visit to any of the manufacturers of the goods mentioned in the article and offer a little trade: allow 'da boyz' to intstall super secret kill switches in the goods ( the kind that could discreetly and slowly disable stuff) or face EAR violations and all the bad press and big fines/jail time that come from same. Sounds to me like we may not be that serious about Iran (but then that may not exactly be a news flash).

#2  Yah, the UAE end runs sanctions on Iran. They also deal directly with Ayatollah owned companies. And the UAE is projected to run out of oil in 2017. Soon all those highrises will be ours.

Police: Arkansas Democratic chair dies in shooting
Police say the 49-year-old chairman of the Arkansas Democratic Party has died hours after being shot by a gunman who burst into the state party headquarters in Little Rock. Police say Chairman Bill Gwatney died four hours after the shooting near the state Capitol. The suspect was shot dead after shooting at police officers following a 30-mile (48-kilometer) police chase. Police say they do not have a motive for Gwatney's killing.

#4  Hmm... did the killer lost his job somewhere else prior to picking up the Target gig? Was Mr. Gwatney his former boss? (Or did the killer BELIEVE he was his former boss?)

And what about Naomi?

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Sweet Home Alabama...England?
LONDON (Reuters) - Council chiefs in Birmingham were left red-faced when they mistakenly used a picture of their U.S. namesake in Alabama on thousands of official leaflets.
There's one in England?
Pamphlets about recycling in the West Midlands bore an image showing the skyline of the city in the Deep South.
Well, they now have lots of paper to recycle.
Under the headline "Thank You Birmingham!," the picture showed office blocks in the U.S. city, rather than its own distinctive Rotunda tower and the curvy Selfridges store.
Outsourced the printing? I worked on some of the office building projects in Birmingham but, really, you can tell the difference.
The council said it had made a mistake, but had no plans to recall the leaflets.
At least it's a picture of a city named Birmingham and not Eastaboga.
"We accept that the wrong photo was used but the text and detail contained in the leaflet is wholly correct which is the most important message as we strive to further improve our green credentials," the council said Thursday.

Bigfoot in Appalachia
The search for Bigfoot, the mythical half-man/half-gorilla beast also known as Sasquatch, may have ended in Georgia. According to a press release issued by "Searching For Bigfoot," a California-based Web site, two men have not only found the corpse of a 7-foot-7, 500-plus pound man-monkey, but they've also found a tribe of his brethren living at an undisclosed location in the North Georgia mountains.

The men are to appear at a press conference in California with "DNA evidence and photo evidence" on Friday.

One of the supposed discoverers is Matthew Whitton, a Clayton County police officer for the past six years. He's been on medical leave since being shot in the wrist July 3 while pursuing a suspect in a Krystal robbery. Whitton, along with fellow big-game hunter Rick Dyer, a former correctional officer, are co-owners of bigfoottracker.com and Bigfoot Global LLC., a company that offers "Bigfoot expeditions." The men are working with another Bigfoot hunter, Tom Biscardi, and Biscardi's Searching for Bigfoot, Inc., according to the press release.

Clayton police chief Jeff Turner said Wednesday that Whitton has permission to run his part-time Bigfoot tracking business on the side. "As long as his part-time business doesn't affect his work ethic, that's his own personal business," Turner said.

But Turner said he has been inundated with e-mails and calls from media and the public since word got out that Whitton and Dyer claim to have a Bigfoot corpse. Some doubters suggest photos of said corpse look suspiciously like Bigfoot suits for sale on the internet.

"His claims of finding Bigfoot is entirely a different matter," Turner said. "Unfortunately, that's spilling over into his police life and that's where we have concerns. When he comes back from medical leave, we'll have to sit down and address those issues."

They found Uncle Earl's still. His familiy guards it and never come down out of the mountains. Lots of in-breeding in that clan.

#9  (The other) Phil had an elaborate post over in the o-club where he pointed out the history of one of the participants in this goat-roping of being a hoaxer, and his observation that it looked more like a gorilla than the alleged eyewitness descriptions and the PG Film, yada yada yada... he don't understand, it looks like some of my ex's family. (I basically ignored the fact that she was a less evolved life form until it was too late...)

ANYWAY, yah, if you found one, you'd want to put it in a freezer. Unfortunately, Phil_b, their freezer is apparently broken, which is why the creature is defrosted in the published pics.

If it's good enough for Jane Goodall, it's good enough for me.

If you had the body of an unknown primate and you had to choose between getting Jane Goodall's help in analyzing it, and getting Tom Biscardi's, who would you pick?

Humans are without empathy in this regard, and will continue to be until some enterprising young squatches load up with video cameras and start hunting for evidence for humans at the local sorority row.

I mean, we're talking about the species that caught cousin Patty without her sports bra on and posted the resulting film to the internet where everyone could see how much sag she had.

#15  Consider if there are bears in the woods, then there can be bigfoots in the woods. How often do you see a bear ? Bigfoots may well be smarter than bears by a magnatude. They may not like eating garbage, where most bear sightings occur. They are often reported in swamps where few people ever go, and they are nocturnal. Many sightings are of bigfoots crossing roads in remote areas. That sounds reasonable. We don't exactly share the 'hood with the Snowman family. And, most humans are in the house sitting on the couch absorbing video advertizing while Sasquatch is about.

#16  I've gone round and round with the idea of bigfoot for years. I don't see why there couldn't be a North American great ape of some sort. Apes in the Congo are so reclusive and skiddish that they have to count their nests to get a population estimate for them. Maybe these two hill-jacks have actually found something. But prolly not.

Bangladesh
AL leader gunned down in Dhaka
Unidentified criminals yesterday shot dead a businessman and local Awami League (AL) leader in the capital's Shyampur area.

Meanwhile, armed criminals hijacked a microbus firing shots at its driver while a rickshaw-van puller was injured when fleeing muggers opened fire on local people in the city's Mirpur.

Police and witnesses said a gang of four to five criminals sprayed bullets on Fariduddin Sarker, 45, a businessman and sports secretary of Syampur thana AL unit, while he was having breakfast with friends at his Toma Hotel and Restaurant at Shyampur at about 8:30am.

Sources said Fariduddin was the president of Miraznagar DND Dam Development Committee and also the general secretary of Rayerbagh Traders' Association.
