Briefly about Niger. 08/03/2023
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin:

[ColonelCassad] 1. The United States and Italy verbally abandoned the idea of military intervention in Niger, declaring the impossibility of their military intervention. De facto, France is offered to fight for its (now gone) uranium with its own hands and the hands of local dependent governments.

2. Against the backdrop of the evacuation of some citizens from Niger, the United States has already announced that it will keep its embassy there, but will reduce staff and replace the ambassador. Italy will also keep its embassy, but will take out other citizens - the evacuation is already underway.

3. The worst thing that has happened so far for the military that has seized power in Niger is cutting off the supply of electricity from Nigeria, which will affect local consumers, since Nigeria supplies more than half of the electricity to Niger. Cash payments to Niger through the World Bank and the EU have also been stopped.

4. Despite threats and pressure, General Ciani said that the military would not make concessions and would not restore the deposed French puppet in power. To pressure and threats, they will respond decisively and not bow down.

5. In addition to Algeria, Mali and Burkina Faso, Guinea, which is in China's sphere of influence, also came out in support of the new authorities of Niger.

6. In the capital of Niger, demonstrations continue in support of the army that seized power, and they also continue to drag and hang Russian flags. Almost all key administrative facilities in the capital are controlled by the rebels. There is no serious resistance, as well as mass demonstrations in support of the overthrown Bazuma.

7. In general, a very interesting story is developing in Niger, which will affect a large number of countries and in one way or another change the balance of power in West Africa. It is already obvious that the French neo-colonial empire has received a heavy blow, and the processes of decolonization, which were suspended after the destruction of the USSR, continue to gain momentum.

Paris says Niger cut off French media broadcasts

French radio station RFI and TV channel Frace 24 were interrupted in Niger, representatives of these media reported on August 3.

“A week after the coup d'état in Niger, according to several sources on the ground, RFI and France 24 programs were interrupted in the country. The group condemns this decision, taken outside the traditional and legal framework," the radio station said in a statement.

The team leaders said that similar cases had previously occurred in Burkina Faso and Mali, and noted that "up to a quarter" of the inhabitants of Niger, that is, 2.5 million people, were viewers and listeners of their media.

In turn, the French Foreign Ministry in its statement condemned the cessation of broadcasting of the TV channel and radio station in Niger, calling on the rebels to stop "authoritarian repression" and ensure freedom of the press.

As IA Regnum reported earlier, on the night of July 27, a group of military men in Niger announced a coup d'état and the overthrow of the country's President Mohamed Bazum. On July 30, leaders of the Economic Community of West Africa announced that if President Bazum did not return to power within a week, military action would be taken against the rebels.

At the same time, representatives of Burkina Faso and Mali said they would consider the invasion of Niger a declaration of war on their countries. Meanwhile, the military that seized power in Niger announced that it was suspending uranium exports to France and accused Paris of intending to restore the power of ousted President Bazum by military means.

Thomas was later on assassinated on orders by the french president François Mitterand.
But, millions of Sankara were born after.
This is where Africa is and what Africans stand for: victory dedicated to Sankara/Kadhafi/Lumumba and others assassinated by the Americans and French thieves colonialists scum .... Any threats or intimidation will be vain.
France thought their trash talking about Russia and support pf ukronazies will have no consequences? Would love to see the French get their asses kicked out of Africa

#4  It appears to be more of a mother ship for actual landing craft - big rear well deck, large cargo holds. I'm assuming the class was built in anticipation of adventures of the Novo Rossiya sort, but more likely to be used as a general military transport. (Which now has to hide due to drone threat.)

#6  Port side is almost completely submerged. So close to capsizing. Currently at dock, leaking fuel oil. My guess is that the stern will sink into the mud.

Two sister ships were damaged and seen leaving Berdiansk port smoking last year while another landing ship burned down at pier side.

were they using it for something else?

Cargo runs to Crimea and Azov Sea ports. Likely tasked with amphib invasion of Odesa but Moskva sinking proved that was too dangerous.

It appears to be more of a mother ship for actual landing craft

Like an oversized US WW2 LST. It can drive up to the beach, open the front clamshell doors and tanks and trucks drive off.

Counteroffensive. APU abandoned US tactics
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] The counteroffensive did not go according to the American plan

The Ukrainian brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which were trained in NATO countries, ceased to rely on US military tactics during the counteroffensive.

The West is closely monitoring the Ukrainian counteroffensive. The New York Times writes that the United States expected that nine Ukrainian brigades trained in the West, numbering about 36,000 people, would demonstrate during the counteroffensive that "the American way of warfare is superior to the Russian one." In particular, we are talking about the decentralization of command and control of various military units in battle, but the Ukrainian commanders have changed tactics. It is strange to hear about the American way of fighting, given that without air superiority, US military doctrine does not provide for the conduct of any offensive actions. However, The New York Times analyzes the course of the counteroffensive.

REALITY DID NOT LIVE UP TO EXPECTATIONS
On the battlefield, the Ukrainian military faced significant mining and constant shelling from artillery and aircraft. Now Ukrainian commanders have changed tactics and focused on exhausting Russian forces with artillery and long-range missiles.

Journalists write that so far NATO's hopes for a quick liberation of the territories have not materialized. Ukraine's allies also fear that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are using a large number of artillery shells. However, in the event of a breakthrough of the Russian defense lines, the Ukrainian military can still use the tactics of the United States and NATO.

SLOW ADVANCE
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are advancing in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions, having “certain progress,” said Sergey Kuzmin, deputy commander of the Tavria operational-strategic grouping.

According to Kuzmin, six occupiers' ammunition depots were destroyed over the past 24 hours. Such purposeful actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroy the logistics approaches of the Russian army, as a result of which it becomes more difficult for it to provide units with weapons and military equipment. Kuzmin said that the Russians tried to transfer resources from other directions, in particular from the Crimea, but after the destruction of the railway bridge on Chongar and the damage to the road crossing, this is “more difficult to happen.” According to him, the invaders are constantly trying to replenish reserves. So, in the Tauride direction there are about 150 thousand fighters, who make up several armies - the 35th, 36th, 5th and 58th.

Kuzmin noted that the Defense Forces lack aviation, air defense systems and engineering equipment for mine clearance for more active advancement.

TOO MANY MINES
During the offensive, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need to overcome an incredible number of mines, the Russian invaders prepared for all the events, said NSDC Secretary Alexei Danilov. “No one can set deadlines for us on the counteroffensive, except for ourselves, firstly. Secondly, there is no schedule. Thirdly, when such talk about a “slow” offensive begins, it is told by people who do not understand what war is, ”he said. And he added: the situation regarding the events that are taking place at the front was overheated. “I never used the phrase counteroffensive. There are military actions. They are complex, difficult and depend on many factors,” the Security Council Secretary explained.

Danilov said that in the current conditions, the Armed Forces of Ukraine perform their tasks on the front line perfectly well.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: August 3rd, 2023
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespodent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2022. Linked in the title

23:25 Ukraine today began negotiations with the United States on a bilateral agreement on the provision of security guarantees, the Office of the President reported. These security guarantees are expected to strengthen Ukraine's progress towards future membership in the EU and NATO, which is "the ultimate goal and the most reliable guarantee of security."

23:18 The United States has no illusions about the Ukrainian counteroffensive and understands that it will be difficult, said Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder: "There are no illusions that these military operations that Ukraine is waging are easy. Russia had time to create fortifications, and Ukraine is coming, so the fighting will be difficult... We are confident that they have considerable fighting ability and that they will use it when and where they choose to defend their country and regain sovereign territory."

22:33 The Washington Post writes, citing sources, that Ukraine has launched the third stage of the counteroffensive. The first phase began in June, when the 9th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, armed with Western equipment, ran into well-fortified Russian defenses, especially minefields, and was able to achieve only limited success, experts say.

The second stage mainly consisted of infantry attacks, during which Ukraine tried to gain an advantage with the help of asymmetric methods of warfare, that is, using the weaknesses of the enemy. And last week, the Armed Forces of Ukraine decided to send a reserve 10th Army Corps to the battlefield, which led to a sharp intensification of hostilities.

The newspaper notes that the Armed Forces of Ukraine involved the reserve 10th Army Corps in order to advance in the Rabotino region of the Zaporozhye region - this settlement is of great strategic value, since the Ukrainian military has the greatest chances to break through the Russian defensive lines there. At the same time, about 19 km still remain from Rabotino to the main Russian defensive line.

22:27 In a joint statement by Putin and the leaders of seven African countries following the results of the Russia-Africa summit, it is said that the parties agreed to continue discussing the "peace initiative" in Ukraine, called for concrete steps to be taken to remove obstacles to the export of Russian grain and fertilizers.

22:24 Russia is shelling Ukraine with X-55 cruise missiles, which Kiev handed over to Moscow in 1999 in exchange for paying off the debt for Russian gas, Radio Liberty reports. The journalists received the text of the agreement and the list of numbers of the transferred missiles at their disposal and compared them with the X-55 numbers that the Russian army began to use against Ukraine during a full-scale invasion. We are talking about at least ten such missiles.

22:09 Zelensky said in an evening video message that he held a meeting on the Crimean Platform today: "The content of the summit, the international presence at the summit, its impact on our ability to constantly put pressure on the liberation of Crimea - we are working on the details. And we are already preparing not only the Crimean Platform summit on level of leaders in August, but also the parliamentary dimension of the Crimean Platform - this summit will be held in autumn."

Also in the Transcarpathian region today there was a second meeting with the ambassadors of Ukraine: "Yesterday, today there were the highest political and high military levels of communication ... I specifically asked both the commander-in-chief Zaluzhny and the commanders with Kuleba to hold an appropriate meeting so that the key things that so necessary for our soldiers, our defense forces - so that they convey all this to the ambassadors.

One of the issues that was considered today was the verification of "military commissars", which revealed many abuses, "frankly disgusting." The President assured that all the facts revealed by law enforcement officers would be presented to the public and investigated within the framework of criminal proceedings. "The conclusion is obvious: the recruitment system needs people who understand what the value of defending Ukraine is. The value, not the price of decisions. People who saw the war and went through it should work in the "military offices". There are those who, unfortunately, have lost limbs, but did not lose dignity and did not lose Ukraine," Zelensky said.

21:28 Zelensky said in an evening video message that heavy battles were going on at the front: “The invaders are trying with all their might to stop our guys. The assaults are very cruel. no matter what the enemy did, it is the Ukrainian force that dominates."

The president also said that in total Russia had already launched at least 1961 Shahed drones on the territory of Ukraine, and "a significant part" was shot down. According to him, "the task for each of our ambassadors, all representatives of Ukraine" is to increase the number of air defense systems.

20:27 The countries of the North Atlantic Alliance are strengthening security because of the Wagner mercenaries in Belarus and are preparing for a possible attack. Poland, Lithuania and Latvia were in a similar situation two years ago, when a large number of migrants began arriving at their borders from Belarus. For more details, see Trouble in NATO .

19:59 The Russians shelled the center of Kherson, a volunteer from Norway was wounded, the OVA reported.

19:30 At a meeting with Ukrainian ambassadors, Zelensky announced the holding of the Defense Industries Forum in the fall. According to the Minister for Strategic Industries Alexander Kamyshin, it is planned to attract international and Ukrainian companies from the defense sector to create new joint ventures.

"The international defense industry is mutually integrated, and this is an important key to military-political alliances. And for us at the Ministry of Strategic Industry, this is another opportunity to increase domestic production of weapons and military equipment. Including with the participation of international companies. This will be the first international event of this format, which we are preparing together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense," the minister said.

18:58 The website of the TV channel of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Zvezda has deleted the congratulations of the commander of the Airborne Forces Mikhail Teplinsky on the day of the Airborne Forces. In the video, he indirectly acknowledges the high losses of the Russian military in the war against Ukraine, the Agency reports .

In his congratulations, Teplinskiy said that he was proud that during the year and a half of the war "more than 5,000 wounded paratroopers returned to the front after treatment, and more than 3,500 of our wounded refused to leave the front line at all." Thus, he admitted that the Airborne Forces, only one of the Russian military branches, recorded at least 8,500 wounded.

18:17 Commander of the Ground Forces Alexander Syrsky said that today he worked all day in government agencies and military units performing tasks in the most active sectors of the front. In particular, in the Bakhmut direction, the work was devoted to "actual problems of increasing the pace of the offensive, the prospects for further actions."

In the Limansky and Kupyansky directions, together with the commanders, they considered the issues of "an adequate response to enemy offensive actions, increasing the effectiveness of enemy fire engagement, combating various types of drones, and ensuring the actions of our troops."

According to Syrsky, in the Kupyansky and Limansky directions, Ukrainian troops, in the face of active enemy offensive operations, “every day frustrate his plans to break through our defenses, inflict significant losses in personnel and equipment, and reduce the offensive potential of enemy troops.” In the Bakhmut direction, "we continue to carry out offensive operations, step by step, in the face of strong enemy resistance, our fighters liberate the territory."

17:52 Zelensky said he had a "long and comprehensive" meeting with Interior Minister Igor Klymenko. In particular, he listened to a report on the protection and defense of nuclear facilities, the training of the National Guardsmen and other units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the provision of ammunition and equipment, and the verification of shelters.

17:29 Poland has deployed combat helicopters to the border with Belarus, the pilots of which are ready "without hesitation" to open fire in case of a threat, Marek Sokolovsky, deputy chief of the country's General Staff, said. He specified that all the pilots are professionals with combat experience who served in Afghanistan.

17:01 German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the supply of Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine "is not our top priority right now." "Not only do we not supply. Our American allies also do not supply these cruise missiles. Ours have a special range," he added.

16:26 Ukraine's annual defense spending is about 2 trillion hryvnia, Shmyhal said. He recalled that in peacetime, the state budget revenues amounted to 1.3 trillion hryvnia. "Today, we budgeted UAH 1.3 trillion for the Armed Forces. We allocated another UAH 509 billion over the year, and now we will allocate about the same amount. In fact, the Armed Forces, the war cost Ukraine about UAH 2 trillion today," - explained the prime minister. He added that Ukraine mainly receives funds for other needs from Western partners.

16:23 Medvedev said that from January 1 to August 3, more than 231,000 people were accepted for contract service in Russia.

16:15 The European Union has imposed new sanctions against Belarus due to its involvement in Russia's war against Ukraine. According to the European Commission, the new restrictions will ensure closer alignment of EU sanctions against Russia and Belarus and help prevent sanctions circumvention with the help of Minsk. In particular, the ban on the export to Belarus of a number of "very sensitive goods and technologies that contribute to the military and technological development of Belarus" has been expanded, and an additional ban has been introduced on the export of firearms and ammunition, as well as goods and technologies suitable for use in aviation and the space industry.

15:32 At least 43% of Ukrainians who were kept in Russian detention centers during the occupation of Kherson were subjected to extensive torture. This is stated in the report, which analyzed 320 cases of detention in Kherson in more than 35 detention centers. At the same time, the respondents called sexual violence a common tactic of Russian guards in relation to imprisoned men and women. Most often, servicemen and their relatives are tortured in isolation wards.

The report was compiled by the Mobile Justice Team, which is part of the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group (ACA) with the support of the UK, EU and US, created by the international law firm and human rights foundation Global Rights Compliance to support the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, writes CNN.

15:04 The Indian Foreign Ministry announced that the country has been invited to a meeting on Ukraine in Saudi Arabia and will take part in it.

14:59 Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki urgently met with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda to discuss possible provocations from Belarus. Nauseda said that the presence of PMC Wagner mercenaries in Belarus is an additional risk factor for Lithuania, Poland and NATO allies.

According to the Lithuanian President, part of the Wagnerites are located near the border with Lithuania in the Grodno region of Belarus. It is estimated that there are about 4,000 mercenaries in Belarus now, but the final figure could be 10,000.

14:41 The Wall Street Journal writes that China is changing its view of the war in Ukraine and may join the negotiations in Saudi Arabia. According to sources of the publication, the prolongation of the war in Ukraine carries additional risks for China, despite attempts to maintain neutrality and tacit support for Russia. The last irritant was Moscow's withdrawal from the grain deal, since China was the largest buyer of Ukrainian grain. Recently, Beijing's rhetoric has changed, and it seems to already agree to consider the Ukrainian peace plan.

13:54 Putin said that all Russian officials should drive domestic cars.

13:46 Russia is attacking Zmeiny Island to put pressure on civilian shipping, says Natalya Gumenyuk, speaker of the OK Pivden: "Three such sorties indicated an air threat for foreign civilian ships that could resort to voyage to Ukrainian ports. All this was aimed at continuing pressure on civil shipping, taking into account the future prospects of the grain agreement". At the same time, she added that there were no direct hits on the island - "the area of the island was bombed."

13:07 The units of the Offensive Guard are already performing tasks at the front, said the head of the Planning Department for the use of the Main Directorate of the National Guard Nikolai Urshalovich. According to him, in the Melitopol direction, units of one of the operational brigades of the National Guard advanced up to 650 meters into the depth of the enemy’s defense, 1,500 meters along the front and entrenched themselves on the occupied line.

12:58 A plant in Tatarstan for the production of Iranian Shahed drones can start working as early as next year, said John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the US National Security Council. According to him, Iran supplies the Russian Federation with the necessary equipment through the Caspian Sea, and military cooperation between the countries is deepening.

12:36 The Office of the President showed what the Kakhovka reservoir and hydroelectric power station look like after the Russian terrorist attack:

12:25 Russia has included Norway in the list of "foreign states committing unfriendly actions directed against Russian diplomatic and consular missions abroad."

12:19 The largest Ukrainian agricultural companies are reducing the area under crops due to Russia's withdrawal from the grain deal and attacks on port infrastructure and warehouses, writes Bloomberg. Specifically, HarvEast said it is withdrawing from cultivation 10-15% of the least productive areas.

11:54 A meeting on Ukraine at the level of heads of state may be held in September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly or as part of the G20 meeting in India, Politico writes, citing sources.

11:33 In Russia, mass recruitment of women from the colonies to the front began - they are more willing to fight than men, Olga Romanova, the founder of the Rus project , said in an interview with the channel We can explain . According to her, until recently, women were actively recruited in the occupied territories of Ukraine. Now there have already been cases of recruitment in Lipetsk and even in Moscow pre-trial detention centers.

Romanova says that, unlike men, women in prison are extremely susceptible to propaganda. According to the testimonies of captured prisoners, women are fighting as part of the Ministry of Defense in stormtrooper units. Many of them have the call sign Wolf. They are kept together with men, but they fight separately. The law adopted on June 24 by the State Duma of the Russian Federation, which provides for the termination of criminal prosecution against "volunteers" who signed up for the war, does not say what gender a citizen should be. Therefore, a woman can now also go to fight in Ukraine and avoid punishment.

10:52 Danilov confirmed Ukraine's involvement in both cases of blowing up the Crimean bridge: "Our military put in place the untouchability of many objects that were considered 100% protected in Russia. This is the Crimean bridge, about which representatives of our Security Service spoke, who took part and in the first and second cases.

10:45 SBU detained Denis Safonov, legal adviser of the "Shariy party" in Odessa, who worked for Russian military intelligence. He handed over to the Russian Federation targets for air strikes on the city, tracked the locations and movements of Ukrainian air defense units, and reported on the consequences of the strikes. After the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he and his wife left for Simferopol, where he himself turned to the "military commissariat of Crimea." The inhabitant of Odessa signed a tacit cooperation in favor of the Russian Federation, after which he received a $500 "advance" and returned to Odessa to collect intelligence.

10:31 Danilov said that Ukraine has no prohibitions on the use of weapons developed by its own military-industrial complex to strike at Russian territory. He recalled that Ukraine undertook not to use weapons provided by partners for attacks on the territory of the Russian Federation, so that they would not be accused of involvement in the war.

The NSDC secretary added that Kyiv has "certain achievements", but not everything can be told: "We have certain achievements in this. Although not everything can be told, but what CNN representatives have learned about sea drones are things that have very limited number of countries. According to him, such developments perform combat missions "excellently".

10:04 In the Donetsk region over the past day, as a result of Russian shelling, one person was killed (in Druzhkovka), five more were injured. In the Zaporozhye region, one person was killed as a result of artillery shelling of Preobrazhenka, in the Kherson region, two people were injured, according to the IVA.

09:56 British intelligence has named another factor hindering the advancement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the south - these are bushes and small trees that gradually grow on the battlefields. Thus, the predominantly arable land in the war zone has remained unplowed for 18 months, and the growth of weeds and shrubs accelerates in warm and humid summers.

Vegetation provides additional cover that helps mask Russian defensive positions and makes clearing minefields more difficult. While the undergrowth can also provide cover for small sneak attacks by Ukrainian infantry, it generally makes it difficult to advance.

09:38 Ukrainian troops repelled Russian counterattacks on the southern front. The enemy made unsuccessful attempts to restore the lost position in the direction of Harvest - Blagodatnoye and west of Staromayorsky, said the speaker of the General Staff Pavel Kovalchuk. Meanwhile, the Defense Forces are conducting offensive operations south of Bakhmut, and the Russians have made unsuccessful attempts to restore the lost position west of Kurdyumovka, south of Andreevka and west of Kleshcheevka. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are also holding back the offensive of Russian troops in the Kupyansk and Liman directions.

09:27 In the morning, the Russian army fired on a church in the center of Kherson, wounding three passengers of a trolleybus that was driving past the cathedral at the time of the impact, said Alexander Prokudin, head of the OVA. In turn, the head of the State Emergency Service, Serhiy Kruk, said that today in Kherson, while extinguishing a fire caused by shelling in St. Catherine's Cathedral, there was a second shelling, four rescuers were injured.

08:55 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced that Ukraine's attempt to carry out an attack by drones was allegedly suppressed over the territory of the Kaluga region tonight, six UAVs were destroyed by air defense systems, there were no injuries or damage.

08:41 The General Staff announced the approximate losses of the Russian Federation as of the morning of August 3:

  • personnel - about 247,850 (+620) people liquidated,

  • tanks - 4224 (+7),

  • armored combat vehicles - 8234 (+21),

  • artillery systems - 4892 (+26),

  • MLRS - 704 (+4),

  • air defense systems - 465 (+2),

  • aircraft - 315 (+0),

  • helicopters - 311 (+0),

  • UAV operational-tactical level - 4077 (+35),

  • cruise missiles - 1347 (+0),

  • ships/boats - 18 (+0),

  • automotive equipment and tankers - 7372 (+23),

  • special equipment - 721 (+3).

08:27 At night, air defense forces shot down all 15 Iranian Shahed-136/131 drones that Russia attacked from the Bryansk region, the command of the Air Force reported. In addition, during the day on August 2, air defense destroyed seven reconnaissance UAVs of the operational-tactical level.

07:35 Over the past day, 44 combat clashes occurred at the front, the General Staff said in the morning summary . In particular, in the Bakhmut direction, the enemy made unsuccessful attempts to restore the lost position west of Kurdyumovka, south of Andreevka and west of Kleshcheevka in the Donetsk region. In the Maryinka direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to hold back the offensive of Russian troops in the Maryinka area. At the same time, the Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions.

According to the General Staff, the invaders continue to mobilize prisoners. Thus, in accordance with the order of the so-called "Ministry of Internal Affairs of the DPR", recruitment is being carried out into the units of the internal troops of persons serving sentences or detained for crimes of light or medium gravity.

05:44 At night, the Russians again attacked Kiev with Shahed drones. On approaching the capital, air defense forces detected and destroyed almost 15 air targets, said Sergey Popko, head of the KGVA. According to operational data, there are no casualties or destruction. Popko noted that the air raid lasted exactly three hours and was the 820th for Kyiv since the start of a full-scale invasion.

04:23 Ukrainian brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who were trained in NATO countries, stopped using American tactics during the offensive and returned to the tactics "which they know best", writes The New York Times.

According to the newspaper, the White House hoped that nine brigades numbering about 36,000 people during the counteroffensive would demonstrate that "the American way of warfare is superior to the Russian one." We are talking about the decentralization of control of different military units in battle. However, Ukrainian commanders changed tactics and focused on wearing down Russian forces with artillery and long-range missiles.

The newspaper notes that on the battlefield, the Ukrainian military faced significant mining of the territory and constant shelling from artillery and aircraft, so NATO's hopes for an early liberation of the territories did not come true. However, in the event of a breakthrough in the defense lines of the Russians, the Ukrainian military can still use the tactics of the United States and NATO, experts say.

01:19 The Economist writes that Ukraine is making 3D-printed bombs to improve efficiency on the battlefield. A 3D-printed 800-gram anti-personnel bomb called the Bunny is cheaper and much more effective than conventional bombs, for example, dropped from a drone.

More than 30,000 of these bombs have been manufactured in the last four months, according to the publication, and the pace of production is growing. Printed bombs can easily cut through wood planks and are sometimes more effective than conventional grenades.

00:57 Ukraine has no schedules or deadlines on the issue of counter-offensive, said NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov: "No one can set deadlines for us, except ourselves, this is firstly. Secondly, there is no schedule. Thirdly When such conversations begin, we mean what people say who do not understand what war is."

According to Danilov, the Russian Federation "prepared very powerfully" for the Ukrainian counteroffensive, a huge number of territories were mined. "The number of mines located on the territory that our military needs to overcome is simply insane. On average, there are 3-4-5 mines per square meter," Danilov added.

00:21 Analysts in the German government believe that Russia will have enough combat forces to continue the war in Ukraine for another 2-3 years, and if necessary, the Kremlin can increase the army to 3 million people, writes Bild. At the same time, there is little belief in Germany that the Russians can go on the offensive.

Russia took off her rose-colored glasses and believed in herself
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Petr Akopov

[RIA] Which of the two statements do you agree with: "Only a fifth of the citizens consider the structure of Russia to be fair" or "Russians put their country in first place in the list of states with the most just society"? In fact, there is no contradiction here: these are all data from the same VTsIOM survey. Which just investigated what our citizens think about social justice. So why are there such conflicting results?

VTsIOM has been conducting such surveys for a long time, so the dynamics are visible (somewhere in ten, and sometimes in fifteen years). In 2013, answering "in which country in the world the society is arranged most fairly", they chose the West. For some reason, Australia was in first place (13 percent - probably because it was first on the list), then Austria (seven percent), the USA , Great Britain , the Emirates, Belarus ... Then less than one percent of respondents chose their own country, and the most popular answer was: "There is no such country." This was the opinion of a third of the respondents, while every fifth found it difficult to choose. And what do we see now?

Russia is in first place with 21 percent (this is the reason for the headline "Over ten years, the number of Russians who believe that society is organized in Russia is most just, has grown 20 times"), then China (11 percent), Belarus ( six percent ) and Sweden and Norway (5 percent each). And the Anglo-Saxon countries (USA, UK, Australia and Canada ) scored two percent each. What happened?

Perhaps the results were affected by the departure abroad of the most pro-Western part of society? No, their share is in any case small. Maybe patriotic propaganda denouncing the "decaying West" influenced? And its influence should not be overestimated - everything is much more serious. Our society has become more sober about the world around us and about our own country, that is, they have taken off their rose-colored glasses when assessing foreign countries and have begun to get rid of sweeping slander against their own country. And this in itself is very correct.

Naturally, the fact that in Russia the authorities really began to move more actively towards social justice also had an effect, especially after the adoption of amendments to the Constitution in early 2020. Yes, then there was a pandemic that both rallied society and exacerbated claims to power, but on the whole, Putin’s direction of movement towards building a more just society is beyond doubt. Therefore, 37 percent of those surveyed said that the policy of the authorities rather contributes to strengthening social justice in our society, and ten years ago only one in five agreed with this.

But here we are talking about moving towards social justice, and not about achieving the result desired by the authorities and society. Therefore, 20 percent of those who put Russia in first place in the rating of social justice is not a little, but a lot: after all, we know how many problems we have with injustice, inequality, poverty, and corruption. A huge number - and then there is the strain of forces due to the NWO, and sanctions that do not improve the economy. However, it is the test of wartime that leads to an additional increase in the demand for justice - in every sense.

And in the equality of all before the law (this is put in the first place by 36 percent), and in the fact that the position of everyone is determined by the results of his work (20 percent), and even in such a socialist legacy as "that the standard of living of all should be approximately the same, not there were neither rich nor poor" (19 percent). The fact that society wants justice is not new, but it is important that it begins to believe in the ability and desire of the authorities to build a just society.

And he no longer considers it impossible to build a just society (it is clear that it is not absolutely fair and not in the communist ideal): if ten years ago a third of the respondents believed that there was no such country in the world, now only ten percent think so.

At the same time, we do not have magic recipes for building a society of social justice - this can be seen from the answers to the question "What should the state do?". If five years ago the fight against corruption was put in the first place (14 percent), now it has been overtaken by the desire to "strengthen social policy" (15 percent, against 12 for anti-corruption activities). They propose 12 percent to raise wages and pensions, nine percent each for "tightening the legislation" and the principle "the law is the same for all."

It turns out that there is an unambiguous demand for the fight against corruption and equal responsibility for the rich and officials and for ordinary citizens, as well as for strengthening social support (and it is by no means limited to the growth of benefits), and this, in principle, corresponds to the course taken country. It is clear that the resistance of the elites is great: in the post-Soviet years, a new nomenklatura has been formed, consisting of bureaucracy and big business, and it sincerely considers itself the salt of the earth, standing above the law.

But the direction of movement has been set - both the will of the president and the desire of the people coincide in the main thing: only a just Russia can be strong and stable. Fighting for a more just world order, we do not forget for a second that we need it only in order to build a system at home that meets the interests and ideals of our people.

—-
In Kiev tonight, kamikaze drones “Geran” flew right into the building of “Ukrgospetssvyaz”, in this building there is equipment for wiretapping phones and intercepting information on the network.

That is, we began to hit important targets in the information technology infrastructure. This cannot but rejoice, because the entire stability of the Kyiv regime largely depends on the reliability of the “info dome”. Especially from the ability to punish dissent, which provided this object.
So this is great news.

20:44 Russian army units advanced on the Svatovsko-Kremensky sector

Military experts report that the Armed Forces of Ukraine were knocked out from several positions in the Serebryansky forestry. There is information about a high level of losses in the personnel of Ukrainian units.

19:57 At Orekhov, two "meat assaults" of the enemy were repelled.

After artillery preparation, the enemy sent the first wave of meat infantry into the fields between Rabotino and Verbov at about six in the morning. The battle was fought for at least four hours, the attack was repelled by accurate and powerful fire from our artillery.

In the lunch area, the second wave of infantry of the Armed Forces of Ukraine went on the attack, which was also covered by our howitzers, which filled it with rounds. Today, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have suffered significant losses and have so far reduced their activity.

19:20 Svatovsko-Kremenskaya section situation as of 19.00 August 3, 2023

The main events unfolded in the Serebryansky forestry. If positional battles continue on the right flank of the RF Armed Forces, then in the south and southeast of Dibrov, the combined assault detachments of the RF Armed Forces went on the attack.

Due to the inaccessibility of the terrain, the configuration of the front is still unclear, but, according to confirmed data, the Russian military personnel were able to advance, knocking out the formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from several positions.

A high level of casualties is noted in the ranks of Ukrainian units: the 3rd battalion of the 66th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is being withdrawn from 13 strongholds. Also, the formation of 1 arr of special forces 9 Army Corps was replaced.

At Karmazinovka, Ukrainian formations continue to roll on the positions of the RF Armed Forces near the ledge. Enemy attacks continue in small infantry groups without armored vehicles, but with artillery support.

But no matter how hard the Ukrainian units try, at the moment Russian fighters are fighting off the attacks. Artillerymen of the 21st Motorized Rifle Brigade, together with aviation, in response, hit the strongholds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

18:50 The Ukrainian army rounds Kremennaya for two days in a row, a local resident died, according to the Telegram channel of the LPR government.

“On the first and second of August, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched artillery strikes on Kremennaya,” the publication says.

According to the authorities, on August 1, a cluster munition damaged the Olimp stadium, and on August 2, a residential building was damaged during shelling.

“The owner of the house was in the courtyard at that time, he received injuries incompatible with life, and died on the way to the hospital,” the government added.

The authorities of the LPR believe that one of the main goals of the Ukrainian security forces is to sow panic among the civilian population, for this they have increased the number of attacks on civilian infrastructure.

17:29 Fighting near Novoselovsky situation as of 17.00 August 3, 2023

For several days, intense fighting has been going on in the Novoselovsky area. The units of the Russian army are attacking enemy strongholds, operating from Kuzemovka and trying to take up important tactical positions to advance deep into the defense.

According to unconfirmed reports, Russian troops were able to advance north of Novoselovsky. Clashes also continue to the south near the plantations adjacent to the village.

At the same time, advanced reconnaissance groups of the RF Armed Forces are conducting raids on the lines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the village itself. The line of control in this area is not known for certain due to the fog of war, at the moment the fighting continues.

16:35 Orekhovsky area situation as of August 3, 2023

Early in the morning, enemy infantry groups, under the cover of two forest belts north of Rabotino, tried to rush through the minefields, where they were met by the Marines of the 810 Naval Infantry Brigade of the RF Armed Forces. As a result of the ensuing skirmish, the Ukrainian formations retreated.

Otherwise, the situation along the contact line has slightly stabilized. This is due to really large losses in manpower. One of the units of the 47th Brigade of the 9th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was withdrawn to Novgorod-Volynsky for restoration.

At the same time, the transfer of reinforcements to the advanced positions continues. Columns of military equipment were noted near Orekhov, Malaya Tokmachka, Belogorye and Krasnaya Krinitsa.

Also, closer to the front line in Tavriyskoye and Zheleznyanskoye, self-propelled and howitzer divisions of 116 and 117 Mechanized Brigade of 10 Army Corps were pulled together. The movement of artillery to the LBS indicates an imminent intensification of hostilities.

15:43 Kupyanskoe direction 03.08 15:30:

There were gunfights in the morning. Russian forces hit the enemy with artillery and heavy mortars. The stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is occupied, our soldiers continue to push the enemy back.

15:39 The Russian Armed Forces attacked the assault group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of the Antonovsky bridge. According to "Come and See", a massive blow was dealt to Ukrainian forces in the area of the Antonovsky bridge in the Kherson region.

“Another attempt to gain a foothold on the left bank of the Dnieper. The assault group is completely dispersed, ”the Russian fighter told the channel.

Earlier, the Armed Forces of Ukraine made an attempt to land and gain a foothold on the left bank of the Dnieper near the Antonovsky bridge. Currently, the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region is under the control of the RF Armed Forces.

15:37 Situation on the Bakhmut (Artemovsky) direction on August 3:

The situation is tense, intense fighting continues. The Armed Forces of Ukraine noticeably intensified in this area, trying to break through the defenses of the RF Armed Forces and enter the city, which has a symbolic meaning for Kyiv.

The enemy, regardless of losses, continues to throw new forces to assault the flanks. The 200th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Northern Fleet showed great skill, repulsing the enemy landing on the northern flank, undertaken by the forces of the 21st motorized infantry battalion of the 56th Motorized Rifle Brigade and the 2nd assault battalion of the 67th Motorized Rifle Brigade.

In this section, our units retain control over the dam in the area of Zheleznodorozhny and Blagodatny. The LBS here passes through the landing, although the Ukrainian OSINT resources hastily attribute it to the zone of control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In the area of Dubovo-Vasilyevka, assault operations are continuing with the forces of the 127th Brigade of the defense, 30th motorized brigade, 21st motorized brigade, 57th Motorized Rifle Brigade in the direction of Minkovka, Berkhovka and Bogdanovka.

Control of the dominant heights in the area (Dubovo-Vasilyevka is located at an average height of 120-150 meters) allows us to hold flank positions. The enemy is in no hurry to break through the defenses of the Russian Armed Forces in Berkhovka, fearing falling under fire control, by analogy with the assault on Pyatikhatki in Zaporozhye and Staromayorsky in the DPR.

Kleshcheevka, during which active battles have been going on for the past two weeks, is actually in a gray zone. Under pressure from the enemy, advancing by the forces of the 24th Aidar assault battalion, the 5th Assault Brigade, the 22nd Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 80th Airborne Assault Brigade, the 3rd Separate Azov Assault Brigade, units of the RF Armed Forces were forced to retreat to the railway, but the enemy does not risk entering into the inhabitant, fearing that our artillery would fall into the fire control zone.

At the same time, after the withdrawal from Andreevka to the railway, there is a threat of an attack on Kurdyumovka, which the enemy can inflict from the north. Although earlier we expected a breakthrough in the dam area through the Seversky Donets-Donbass canal, which was under our fire control.

15:20 In the South-Donetsk direction, advanced units of the Vostok group of troopsreflectedenemy attacks northeast of Harvest. Destroyed: manpower, mortar crew and armored fighting vehicles. Having suffered losses, the enemy retreated.

15:00 Cachewith foreign grenade launchers found in the LPR.

In Severodonetsk, during a search of the former GO UMVD of Ukraine, operatives discovered a cache from which they seized five hand-held anti-personnel fragmentation grenades, UZRGM fuses, 18 RPGs, including foreign-made ones, and 21 cartridges of 7.62mm caliber. All weapons sent for examination.

14:40 In the Kupyansk direction, assault detachments of the Western Group of Forces led offensive actions on a wide front and took more advantageous positions in the areas of the settlements of Olshana, Pershotravneve of the Kharkov region and Kuzemovka of the Luhansk People's Republic.

14:25 Highlights from the new briefing of the RF Ministry of Defense:

During the day, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continued to attempt an offensive in the Donetsk, South-Donetsk, Kupyansk and Krasnolimansk directions;

In the Donetsk direction, the RF Armed Forces repelled eight attacks, then counterattacked and improved the position along the front line in the area of three settlements; Losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine per day amounted to 380 military personnel, 13 pieces of weapons and equipment;

In the South-Donetsk direction, Ukraine’s losses per day amounted to 175 soldiers, one tank, two US-made M777 artillery systems, a 122mm D-30 howitzer;

In the Kupyansk direction, the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was successfully repelled, the losses of Ukraine amounted to 150 military;

Over 110 Ukrainian soldiers, three armored vehicles and Akatsiya self-propelled guns were destroyed in the Krasnolimansky direction in a day, two enemy attacks were repelled;

Up to 30 Ukrainian servicemen were killed in the Kherson direction.

14:10 Kyiv regime committed attack drones on Nova Kakhovka.

One of the enemy drones was dropped yesterday at a gas station located near the city market. Another drone was dropped by the Ukronazis on July 31 - it fell on a truck, as a result of which the vehicle was damaged, the driver was not injured.

13:55 Kherson direction and area of Antonovsky bridge (Dachi) at 13:30 03.08, reports front bird:

The situation in this sector of the operational direction remains stable and controlled. This week and over the past 24 hours, there have been several enemy attempts to cross the Dnieper in high-speed boats and gain a foothold on the left bank.

Having identified the target, our units immediately opened fire on enemy vessels, thereby forcing the Armed Forces of Ukraine to take flight.

13:29 Vremyevsky section situation as of 13.00 August 3, 2023:

The situation in the Vremievsky area remains tense. The Ukrainian marines resumed their attacks at Priyutnoye, trying to gain a foothold in the landings near water bodies to the northeast.

A group of 10 people under the cover of an infantry fighting vehicle was hit, because of which the enemy retreated. However, judging by the formation of new assault groups at Novodarovka and the deployment of a self-propelled battery at the Temirovka-Novoivanovka line, attacks will resume soon.

And, most likely, they will be coordinated with the units of the 35th Brigade and 128th Brigade of the TRO operating in Makarovka. In the evening, detachments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on two AFVs started a shooting battle near Staromayorsky, and a tank provided fire support from the northeast.

The activity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this area does not subside. But at the same time, the Ukrainian command is replenishing manpower and ammunition, preparing for a new offensive.

Russian gunners, drone and aircraft operators are attacking rear areas in an attempt to thwart enemy plans. As a result of one of the hits of the Lancet, a nomadic tank of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was hit.

12:25 Until 0400 hrs, the enemy was accumulating forces as part of three assault brigades to conduct offensive operations in the direction of Malaya Tokmachka and Novopokrovka. Artillery fire was inflicted on the groups, the enemy practically lost the entire composition of the brigades, the survivors dispersed along the forest belt. This was announced by the Acting Governor of the Zaporozhye region Yevhen Balitsky.

Also, according to him, the movement of enemy infantry in the Pyatikhatki area was detected, the artillery of the detachment inflicted a fire defeat, the enemy also rolled back.

10:46 Staromayorskoye: on the morning of August 3, the northern part of the village is under the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the heights and fields are under our control.

Ukrainian militants in Staromayorsky under constant fire pressure from Russian units - the Armed Forces of Ukraine have heavy losses and the warriors do not understand the expediency of holding dead positions.

10:35 The situation in the Sumy region on 08/03/2023 at 10:30:

Over the past 24 hours, several NATO ZSU "Gepard" have been deployed to the Sumy region. This is due to the increased frequency of attacks on the objects of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this operational direction.

10:25 Archangel Spetsnaz reports the situation in the Zaporozhye direction at 10:00:

n.p. Rabotino: in the morning the enemy was blown up by our mines and lost 2 armored combat vehicles with personnel, at the moment there are battles in forest plantations. It was also noticed the delivery of personnel to positions for further offensive operations.

n.p. Pyatihatki: the enemy made an attempt to conduct reconnaissance in force - unsuccessfully, withdrew and left in a pickup truck to the north. There are searches.

10:00 At Orekhov, the enemy resumed the "meat assaults".

The command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is again throwing infantry into the attack on our positions in the fields at the Rabotino-Verbove line. After the artillery preparation, the enemy began offensive operations with the support of cluster munitions.

Attack aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are moving under fire on landings without armored vehicles, trying to occupy the forest shelves in the gray zone, and then break through to our trenches.

The advancing enemy forces are actively covered by volleys of our howitzers and MLRS. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have already suffered significant losses, rounds flew right into the advancing groups more than once.

10:00 The Nazis waged a massive shelling of residential sector of the Kievsky district of Donetsk.

Fragments, presumably from a NATO-style artillery shell, were found at the site. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation fixes the consequences of the criminal actions of neo-Nazis.

09:47 The situation in the South-Donetsk direction:
In the Vremevsky sector, the nature of the actions of both sides did not change. Our troops continue their assault operations in Staromayorsky, preventing the Ukrainian units from gaining a foothold.

Last night, the enemy attacked northeast of Urozhaynoye with four assault groups supported by two armored combat vehicles. Having lost about 20 people killed and one armored combat vehicle, he rolled back to his original positions. Also, our troops inflicted a fire defeat on the infantry group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which was advancing from the direction of Makarovka.

The enemy makes up for losses in the 37th and 38th Infantry Regiments, including by Georgian mercenaries, and also forms assault groups for an offensive in the Levadnoye and Priyutnoye areas.

In the Ugledar sector, the enemy has again become more active - he is trying to strain in the Nikolsky area and in a number of other sectors.

Christmas thieves. Why is it important for the Orthodox to keep the date of the holiday
Direct Translation via Google Transalte. Edited.
by Sergey Khudiev

[REGNUM] The Ukrainian Orthodox Church will continue to celebrate Christmas on January 7, despite the new law to postpone the holiday to December 25. Metropolitan Kliment , chairman of the Synodal Information and Education Department of the UOC, said this.

Obviously, the law on the postponement of Christmas is intended to once again emphasize the "undesirability" of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, to divide believers into "right" and "wrong". But why is it so important for Ukrainian Orthodox to stick to the traditional date of celebration?

Some reproach them with a senseless adherence to the old calendar, as if the calendar were the most important thing in the Christian life. But the issue is not really about the calendar.

Some Christians celebrate the Nativity of the Savior on December 25, others on January 7. The problem is not so much which date people choose, but for what reasons they do it.

Telling us about the birth of the Savior, the Gospels do not indicate the exact date of this event. Traditionally, it began to be celebrated on the day of the winter solstice - December 25th. This is due to the fact that Christ in the Bible is called the “Sun of Truth”: “But for you who revere my name, the Sun of righteousness will rise and healing in its rays” (Mal. 4:2).

The difference in dates arose due to the fact that the eastern and western churches use different calendars: the eastern Julian, which arose in the Roman Empire, the western - the Gregorian, which contains changes made in the 16th century by Pope Gregory . The discrepancy between these two calendars by the current moment was 14 days, hence the different dates for celebrating Christmas.

From time to time we have talk about the transition to a new style (some Orthodox churches have already), but they get stuck for fear of causing a split. At one time, it happened in the Greek church, which began to celebrate Christmas on December 25th. Then the so-called “Old Calendarists”, who adhered to the old calendar, separated from it (and still remain in schism).

But celebrating Christmas on December 25 is not a heresy or a sin in itself. As the holy Apostle Paul says, “One person distinguishes day from day, while another judges every day equally. Everyone act according to the assurance of his mind. He who distinguishes the days distinguishes for the Lord; and he who does not distinguish the days does not distinguish for the Lord” (Rom. 14:5,6).

What then is the problem with the law to change the date of the celebration of Christmas?

In its motives, first of all, and also in the fact that decisions regarding the life of the Church are made by the state, and not by the Church itself.

I will try to illustrate this with an example.

Is it a sin to wear a Scottish kilt (is this, if anyone does not know, a plaid men's skirt)? Obviously not - the brave Scots themselves wear it, and nothing. This custom is even dear to them, in the complex history of Anglo-Scottish relations they were tried to be forced to abandon kilts, but the Scots eventually defended their right to dress as they see fit. A Scot in a kilt can be both courageous and pious, why not.

But if our authorities for some reason decided to Scottishize the population and ordered all civil servants to appear at work without fail in kilts, this would cause considerable grumbling. Not out of hatred for kilts per se, but because in order to change established customs, there must be some good reason. You should not force people to change clothes simply because of the passion of the authorities for dressing up. It would look like gross tyranny. As an underline of his power - "you will all dress as I say."

It is all the more rude to interfere with religious customs.

Let's continue our analogy with the kilt. Suppose the authorities would have ordered everyone to attend worship, dressed in kilts. This would pose two problems.

Firstly, is it a sin, in principle, to enter the temple in a kilt? Well, probably not, if you're a pious Scottish Highlander back in Scotland. But in our area it is somehow unusual and can confuse people.

Secondly, is it appropriate for the authorities to prescribe to believers the rules of the internal life of the church and make a clear distinction between the “correct” communities, where everyone is as one in kilts, and the “wrong”, where only women wear skirts, and men are all in trousers, like from the ancient fathers?

But back to the date of the celebration of Christmas.

Usually the state goes towards the church calendar that has already developed in the country. In Western Europe, the majority of the population celebrates Christmas on December 25, in Ukraine and Russia - on January 7, and this was reflected in the state calendar. The question of when to celebrate church holidays can only be within the competence of the Church.

When a personally religiously indifferent person, moreover, representing an officially secular state, prescribes to believers when they should celebrate Christmas, this is no longer a question of the calendar - it is a question of whether non-believers can dictate to the Church in matters of her inner life.

To accept this diktat means to recognize the right of external, purely worldly forces to rule within the Church. Especially when this diktat is connected with the explicitly declared goal of fitting into the “civilized world”. What this world requires from its faithful adherents is already very clear. And, having obeyed in a calendar issue, it will be more difficult for you to refuse others.

Therefore, the heroic perseverance of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which, being subjected to disasters from all sides, preserves the structure of church life, is not only understandable here, but also deserves deep respect.

Former Grain Deal News Roundup for August 4th, 2023
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
Putin and African leaders called for the lifting of sanctions on the grain deal

[Regnum] The head of the Russian state, Vladimir Putin, and the leaders of seven African countries spoke in favor of lifting sanctions on the export of grain and fertilizers in order to resume the grain deal. This is stated in a joint statement following the meeting of the leaders of the African Peace Initiative with the President of the Russian Federation, which took place on July 28. The document was published on August 3 by the administration of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa .

It is noted that the meeting participants called for concrete steps to remove obstacles to the export of grain and fertilizers from Russia. This will allow the full implementation of the Black Sea deal by UN Secretary General António Guterres, approved on July 22, 2022 in Istanbul, to be resumed.

The statement also said that the parties called on the UN to take the necessary measures to unblock 200,000 tons of Russian fertilizers blocked in the seaports of the European Union. They must be "immediately and free of charge delivered to African countries."

As IA Regnum reported , the United States will do everything necessary to ensure food exports from Russia if Moscow returns to the grain deal, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on August 3.

Earlier, President Vladimir Putin promised that Russia would continue to supply food and fertilizer to African countries, despite the sanctions.

On July 17, the Kremlin announced the suspension of Russia's participation in the grain deal. It was noted that the Black Sea agreements had actually ceased to be valid.

In the United States, they told what they were ready to go for the resumption of the grain deal

The United States will do whatever is necessary to secure food exports from Russia if Moscow returns to the grain deal, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said August 3 .

Blinken: US ready to help Russian exports when grain deal resumes
“In the event of a return to the agreement, we will certainly continue to do everything necessary to ensure that everyone can export their food freely and safely, including Russia,” Blinken said.

As reported by IA Regnum , the Black Sea, or grain deal between Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN on the export of grain from Ukrainian ports through the Black Sea has been in effect since July 22, 2022. Russia extended the grain deal three times.

On July 17, the Kremlin announced the suspension of Russia's participation in the grain deal. It was noted that the Black Sea agreements had actually ceased to be valid.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Ukraine used the sea corridors intended for the grain deal to carry out terrorist attacks and sabotage. They were carried out both against military and civilian Russian targets.

President Vladimir Putin said the agreement did not fulfill its stated humanitarian goals. He stressed that the West interferes even with free supplies of fertilizers to needy states. At the same time, the president promised that Russia would continue to supply food and fertilizer to African countries, despite the sanctions.

More, again from regnum.ru
In the United States, they assessed the consequences of Russia's withdrawal from the grain deal for Kyiv

Russia's withdrawal from the grain deal deprived Ukraine of the opportunity to sell its grain on a huge scale, Bloomberg writes on August 3.

“Farmers’ options are shrinking as businesses become more unprofitable,” the article says.

It is noted that in Ukraine there was a problem of grain storage, since the current crop is piling up, and its transportation through an alternative corridor along the Danube is expensive.

The author also noted that until September 15 there is a ban on the import of grain from Ukraine to Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.

As IA Regnum reported , on July 17 the Kremlin announced the suspension of Russia's participation in the grain deal. It was noted that the Black Sea agreements had actually ceased to be valid.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Ukraine used the sea corridors intended for the grain deal to carry out terrorist attacks and sabotage. They were carried out both against military and civilian Russian targets.

Russia's Boats Fought a Deadly Battle With Ukraine's Robots. No One Knows Who Won.
[Yahoo] Within 24 hours, Russia’s TASS state news agency reported two separate attacks by Ukrainian kamikaze drone boats on Russian vessels in the Black Sea.

The report alleged that early in the morning of August 1, Russian patrol boats Vasily Bykov and Sergey Kotov were escorting a civilian Russian vessel over 210 miles southwest of the Crimean port of Sevastopol when they came under attack from three Ukrainian drone boats (or USVs). Supposedly, fire from the "standard armament" of the Russian patrol boats destroyed the USVs before they could ram Russian ships with their explosive payload.

However, the same day, Ukraine released what they claimed were intercepted radio communications between Russian sailors and a Ka-29 helicopter suggesting that the August 1 attack had not gone as swimmingly as TASS claimed.

Russia fines Apple for not deleting 'inaccurate' content on Ukraine conflict
[Jpost] A Moscow court fined Apple 400,000 roubles ($4,274) on Thursday for not deleting "inaccurate" content about what Russia calls a "special military operation" in Ukraine, Russian news agencies reported.

The TASS news agency said it was the first time Apple had been fined for that offense.

Apple did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment. The company paused all product sales in Russia shortly after Moscow sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine in February 2022, and limited its Apple Pay service in Russia.

Moscow has clashed with Big Tech for years over content, censorship, data and local representation in disputes that escalated after Russia sent its armed forces into Ukraine.

ANTITRUST CASE
Apple paid a 906-million-rouble fine in a Russian antitrust case alleging abuse of its dominance in the mobile apps market, Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) said in February.

Apple, which did not comment then, had previously appealed and "respectfully disagreed" with a FAS ruling that Apple's distribution of apps through its iOS operating system gave its own products a competitive advantage.

The same court later said it had fined the Wikimedia Foundation, which owns Wikipedia, 3 million roubles for the same offense.

Wikimedia has been fined several times and has previously said information that Russian authorities complained about was well-sourced and in line with Wikipedia standards.

Europe
Wagner found a new target in Latvia
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Viktor Lavrinenko

[REGNUM] In Lithuania and Latvia sound the alarm. At the suggestion of the former adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine Aleksey Arestovich (included in the Russian list of terrorists and extremists), Riga and Vilnius began to fear that the “threat” from the PMC “Wagner” relocated to Belarus in relation to Poland is, they say, a “fraudulent maneuver” designed to "take your eyes off".

In fact, allegedly "Wagner" is preparing to undertake sabotage against Lithuania and Latvia. In this case, the Lithuanians and Latvians are preparing to tightly block the border with Belarus.

"WAGNER" GOING SOMEWHERE?
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on July 29 that Wagner PMC fighters had moved towards Poland. Prior to this, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the "Wagnerites" want to go to the West "on an excursion." The President added that he keeps the fighters in the center of the country in accordance with the agreements and does not want to send them to the western borders of Belarus, because they have "bad moods."

The situation attracted the attention of the former adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine Oleksiy Arestovich, who in certain circles enjoys the reputation of an “expert in strategy” - and he spoke out on this matter. Arestovich believes that the goal of Wagner may not be Poland, but Lithuanian Vilnius and Latvian Daugavpils, also located near the border with Belarus.

According to Arestovich, “in a situation of a classic hybrid war, provocations could begin on the Polish border, which would draw attention to themselves, and in the meantime, crowds of refugees with Wagner militants would break through the Belarusian-Lithuanian and Belarusian-Latvian borders and try to penetrate into Lithuania and Latvia » . Arestovich fears that " Wagnerites " with "submachine guns hidden under their jackets" will be indistinguishable from refugees.

However, he assesses the Suwalki Corridor attack, which is feared in Poland, as unlikely: “We are not talking about Russia starting a war with NATO. So far, these are informational provocations that should influence the opinion of the West in order to create favorable conditions for Moscow to negotiate.”

These insinuations of the ex-counselor fell, as they say, on fertile ground. In the summer of the year before last, a large-scale refugee crisis began on the borders of Belarus with Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. Thousands of residents of the Middle East and Africa bought air tickets to Belarus and then tried to get into the European Union from Belarusian territory.

The Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian authorities managed to stop this invasion by applying very harsh measures. Migrants were met at the border by armed security forces who beat them and poisoned them with dogs. Some of the refugees were expelled back to Belarus, some were placed in concentration camps for subsequent deportation.

Thus, the wave of refugees was brought down, but it has not completely stopped to this day - news from the border periodically comes about more and more massacres by Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian border guards. Moreover, in Warsaw, Vilnius and Riga they are firmly convinced that the invasion of migrants on their borders was personally organized by President Lukashenko, who uses refugees as a “hybrid weapon”. Therefore, they are ready to expect any deceit from him.

FROM CINEMA TO REALITY
Interestingly, Arestovich identified Daugavpils, the largest city in Latgale, the eastern Latvian region, as one of the potential targets of Wagner. In 2016, the Western media already frightened the audience with the fact that Daugavpils was supposedly capable of causing a full-scale conflict between Russia and NATO. Such a course of events is presented in the BBC film "The Third World War: in the command post."

This film shows a possible revolt of the inhabitants of Daugavpils, a city where the majority of the population is Russian-speaking and has reason to be dissatisfied with the ethnocratic policy of the Latvian authorities. Citizens, armed with machine guns taken from them out of nowhere, seize the city council building, throw down and burn the flag of Latvia, declare the creation of the “Latgale People's Republic” and call on Russia for help. A mayor named Dimitri Vorlsav calls for a referendum on secession from Riga, after which NATO brings in troops.

Rumors that the population of Latgale is about to revolt have been spreading for almost ten years. Western journalists and representatives of the special services disguised as them regularly go to the region - they sniff out, reconnoiter, and feel the ground.

So, back in early 2014, The Telegraph in London published a sensational article “The Ukrainian crisis has caused tension in the Latvian “Crimea”. The journalist Colin Freeman , who visited Daugavpils, stunned the reader: they say, even despite Latvia's membership in NATO, "Mr. Putin wants to have his foothold here." They say that the president of the Russian Federation can shake up separatist sentiments in the eastern regions of the country, which previously belonged to Russia.

Russian pensioners are being prepared for deportation from Latvia
At some point, rumors about a possible “uprising” grew so strong that the then mayor of Daugavpils, Janis Lachplesis , issued a special statement to the press in 2016: “The real threat is that schools have to close due to a lack of children, unemployment is higher, and salaries and pensions are lower than in other regions of Latvia”, and not at all in the “little green men”.

Back in the fall of 2015, the Maple Arch exercise was held near Vilnius with the joint participation of Lithuanian, Polish and Ukrainian military personnel. According to the "legend" of these maneuvers, the integrity and sovereignty of the fictional Baltic country of Amberland ("Amber Land") was violated by the aggressive state of Redland, which lies in the east.

“The invaders artificially initiated and supported separatist movements in the region, which led to the illegal separation of part of the territories from Amberland and the creation of the Latgala geographical formation, unrecognized by the world society ,” the script read.

READY TO CLOSE THE BORDER
After Aleksey Arestovich's statement about the possible plans of Wagner, Deputy Minister of the Interior of Lithuania Arnoldas Abramavichyus said that Vilnius and Warsaw were considering closing the border with Belarus.

Abramavichyus stressed that he has information that the day before, representatives of the Polish government visited the border with Belarus and assessed the threats emanating from there.

“About 1,200 “Wagnerites” who are on the territory of Belarus were identified there. Some of them are located near the border ,” the Deputy Minister noted. However, according to him, from a military point of view, Wagner will not intimidate Poland. “As for Lukashenka’s statements that they will “ travel” to Poland ... As a military force, they do not pose a serious threat ,” the deputy minister believes.

On the other hand, in his opinion, “the possibility of various provocations on the border with Belarus cannot be ruled out.”

Abramavičius explained his idea as follows: “These may be some groups that are being transferred under the guise of refugees or illegal migrants in order to cause some kind of targeted riots. The possibility of closing the border exists. The question is how far the Belarusian regime will go, of course, in agreement with the Russian regime. In what powers will be given to Wagner .

On this subject the mayor of Daugavpils Andrey Elksninsh has expressed also . By the way, Latvian nationalists consider him "an agent of Moscow's influence." On the grounds that Elksnins objected to the demolition of monuments to Soviet soldiers and objects to the deportation planned by the Latvian authorities of elderly Russian citizens permanently residing in the state who did not pass the Latvian language exam.

"Thanks for the warning! Daugavpils fought off Napoleon and will cope with Wagner , ”Elksnins wrote on a social network. The analogy used by the mayor is interesting. Recently, Daugavpils hosted an annual reenactment and historical festival dedicated to the events of July 1812, when the unfinished Russian Dinaburg fortress (Dinaburg - the former name of Daugavpils) managed to seriously delay the advancing troops of Napoleon.

It is worth noting that the presence of Wagner in Belarus could be a convenient excuse for the Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian authorities to ban their citizens from traveling there.

Last year, President Lukashenko ordered the introduction of a visa-free regime for citizens of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland - and in total about 640,000 residents of these countries have already visited Belarus. They visited relatives, bought cheap Belarusian goods, rested in local sanatoriums, saturated the economy of the “dictatorial regime” with foreign currency. The governments in Riga, Vilnius and Warsaw gnashed their teeth in anger, but for the time being they could do nothing with these trips. Now the reason seems to be found.

NATO Arctic bayonet. Norway joined the ranks of Russia's enemies
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Mikhail Moshkin and Mikhail Zakharov

[REGNUM] Since August 3, Norway has added to the list of countries unfriendly to Russia - this decision was made by the government .

In the case of Norway, being included in such a list means restrictions (up to a complete ban) on the ability of an unfriendly country to hire workers in Russia in its embassies, consulates, representative offices of state bodies and state institutions. From now on, these Norwegian representations will be able to conclude employment contracts with a maximum of 27 spies Russians.

Previously, similar restrictions were imposed on the diplomatic missions of the United States, the Czech Republic, Greece, Denmark, Slovenia, Croatia, and Slovakia.

But, to clarify, the number of countries that Russia now recognizes as unfriendly is much wider - about fifty states, judging by the information on the government website . In addition to those listed, it is expected to include all EU countries, Switzerland, Anglo-Saxon countries (Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand), as well as Japan and South Korea. And even more expected - Ukraine.

There are several lists: one of the lists includes states to which retaliatory sanctions are applied, the other includes those against whom diplomatic restrictions are introduced.

In the case of Norway, the last straw, apparently, was the expulsion of 15 members of our diplomatic mission to Oslo in April of this year on charges of espionage in the host country. “Russian-Norwegian contacts have been dealt a serious blow. Norway is increasingly confirming the status of a state hostile to Russia, ” the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry , Maria Zakharova, commented then .

The decision to include Norway in the status of "unfriendly" in Oslo was perceived, it must be said, rather reservedly. “There is no reason to say that Norway is behaving unfriendly towards Russia ,” Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfelt told NRK . She added that both countries, being neighbors, are interested in maintaining diplomatic relations and channels for contacts " not least in difficult times ." Huitfelt explained that she links the current situation with the conflict in Ukraine.

SNUFFBOX OF THE WORLD
Russia's relations with its Arctic neighbor and at the same time with one of the oldest members of NATO (Norway has been in the alliance since its founding in 1949), it must be said, began to "thaw" just shortly before the start of the NWO.

The “ice broke” in the fall of 2021, when Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Norway for the first time in two years . Then he met with the current Prime Minister of the country, Jonas Gahr Støre , and with Foreign Minister Huitfelt. The latter, talking with Lavrov, remembered how her grandfather during the years of Nazi occupation was in a concentration camp along with Soviet prisoners of war. The minister demonstrated a family heirloom, a snuffbox, which the Soviet comrades presented to my grandfather, then Kommersant reported.

Lavrov, in turn, paid tribute to "how carefully the Norwegian people, the government keep the memory of the feat when the Red Army liberated Northern Norway." The monument to Soviet soldiers in the Arctic Kirkines (which Lavrov then mentioned as an example of such a memory), we note, and now the fate of similar memorials, for example, in Poland, the Baltic states or Ukraine, has not befallen.

Yes, and the current Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, judging by his statements, is by no means one of the ideological Russophobes, like the Polish "gray eminence" Yaroslav Kaczynski or any of the Baltic presidents. Back in 2015, as the leader of the opposition Workers' Party, Støre said that " Norway and Russia, which have a thousand-year history of peaceful neighborhood, should maintain good relations." In 2019, he also expressed hope for the development of good neighborliness.

In the same year, Lavrov attended a memorial ceremony at the aforementioned monument in Kirkines in the presence of King Harald V and the then leaders of government and diplomacy.

Russia did not give its neighbors on the other side of the Arctic border any reason to be offended.

In 2010, Moscow ended a long-standing dispute over the division of the Arctic Ocean shelf, giving its neighbors half of the disputed water area (about 175 thousand square kilometers), and Oslo received full control over the 200-mile zone around the Svalbard archipelago, where Russia has historically, according to Soviet-era treaty has special rights.

But Norway's historical dependence on its senior NATO partner, the United States, has proven stronger. By the way, we note that the current secretary general of the alliance, Jens Stoltenberg , is precisely a Norwegian who has twice held the post of prime minister.

ARCTIC BAYONET OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC ALLIANCE
Last year, Norway actually staged a blockade of Russian citizens working in Svalbard.

Then the neighbors limited the supply of food from our big land to Barentsburg, a settlement of Russian coal miners in the archipelago. The products, we recall, were supposed to pass through the only checkpoint on the Russian-Norwegian border Storskog. The Norwegian side, without hiding, explained this by observing the anti-Russian sanctions policy. A country that is not part of the EU has adopted sanctions against our country similar to those in Brussels. Oslo leaves no hope of blocking the delivery of goods needed for the normal operation of the Arktikugol Trust.

In early April, Norway introduced a new package of sanctions against Russia, similar to the tenth package of the European Union. Further deterioration of relations between the northern country and Russia was and remains rather a matter of time.

Some unfriendly steps could be dictated by national egoism. The Norwegians continue to claim access to the mineral resources of the Arctic shelf, as well as the development of hydrocarbon deposits, limiting the rights of Russian companies.

But for the most part, this is a consequence of allied obligations, experts say. “Norway traditionally takes an active part in the maneuvers of the NATO bloc near our borders, it is such a northern fist or a northern bayonet of the bloc,” Dmitry Solonnikov , director of the Institute for Contemporary State Development , told IA Regnum .

For example, in the spring, the American aircraft carrier Gerald Ford entered Oslo for the first time in 65 years before taking part in exercises with allies in the Arctic Challenge block near the Norwegian coast.

Conducting military exercises, Oslo speaks of NATO's readiness to repel an attack on the northern flank of the bloc - and it is not difficult to guess who the Norwegians see as the aggressor.

Norway does not lag behind the allies in supplying Ukraine with weapons and ammunition.

A month ago, Oslo announced a “donation” for the Armed Forces of Ukraine of three MLRS multiple launch rocket systems and 5,000 ammunition. In June, the Norwegian authorities handed over 22 self-propelled howitzers with ammunition to Kiev. “We must continue to support Ukraine so that it can continue its struggle for freedom and independence,” said the country's defense minister, Bjorn Arild Gram .

Obviously, such rhetoric and actions of Oslo do not fit well with statements like "there is no reason to say that Norway is behaving unfriendly towards Russia."

The forces that are set on quickly curtailing the confrontation with Moscow are marginal in Norway, they are "squeezed out of the mainstream of the political process, so they will not come to power in the near future," Solonnikov believes.

HOPE FOR GEOGRAPHY
The development of relations between Oslo and Moscow will depend on the course of the special operation in Ukraine, experts agree.

“Relations with Norway, as well as with other states, will be re-arranged after the end of the NWO. When Russia is able to announce its victory, we will re-negotiate with European partners, ” comments Solonnikov.

“The reaction of Norway will depend on how effectively and effectively Russia will be able to win within the framework of this conflict. They are very attentive to our achievements and our defeats. Any of our victories will force Oslo to adjust its policy towards Russia, ” said Nikolai Mezhevich , president of the Russian Association for Baltic Studies, in a comment to IA Regnum.

However, today the situation with the inclusion of Norway in the list of states unfriendly to us does not look surprising, political analysts say.

“The current decision is a confirmation of the status quo that has developed today. This is not a step that changes the situation, it is a step that concretizes the situation,” says Solonnikov. Therefore, an exchange of diplomatic blows becomes almost inevitable.

Mezhevich lists circumstances beyond the control of the political situation that cannot be ignored: “Direct neighborhood, a large line of the maritime border, the specifics of the Spitsbergen treaty, environmental problems at the junction of the Atlantic and Arctic oceans.” Geography itself will force the Norwegians to seek mutual understanding with a large neighbor.
