Sherrod Story False
Posted by: Goodluck || 07/26/2010 06:23 || Comments || Link || [2 views] Top|| File under:

#1  Taken literally, it seems the story was false - Bobby Hall was not lynched. That is, he was not taken from the hands of the law and hanged. He was brutally beaten and killed when taken from the hands of the law by a mob. That's close enough for me to not call the story false.

#2  Breitbart slimed this woman. He should have the decency to apologize. The rest of us should leave her alone. If I were in her shoes, I'd be lawyered up now, and pressing for a wrongful dismissal settlement against Barry + libel judgment against Breitbart.

#3  At the very least the story was inaccurate. So she shifted to from race warfare to class warfare. She should get a medal for that?

#4  She doesn't deserve any medals, and I don't much care for her, but due to Breitbart's unbelievably irresponsible actions, she was libeled and wrongfully dismissed from her job. You don't have to endorse anyone's agenda or be a critic of Breitbart's other work (I'm not; I support most of it) to admit that he has hideously f***ed up here, and caused real harm to an innocent person.

#5  Bobby Hall was not lynched.

A lynching does not necessarily mean hanging. It could mean just about any form of sudden extra-judicial violent death at the hands of some kind of mob. Usually it's hanging, but it could also be beating, dismemberment, dragging or whatever.

The Avi Marmara incident was almost a lynching, for example. In this case, the lynchees fought back and won.

#6  She's part of the Great Lawfare Continuum, but suddenly she's an innocent, and Breitbart is at fault for the worthless President's pathetic need to avoid the appearance of controversy?

These people have spent the last half-century poisoning the well and making it impossible for anyone to actually discuss the specifics of race and capitalism, to the end result that we've gone from Capitalism to Socialism, with no real improvement in the material lives of _most_ black people, but a looming contraction of the economy, but you think she's innocent?

How much money has she made off of her particular campaigns of lawfare, and how much has that damaged the economy?

#7  Snowy, yes it it Breitbart's fault, for fudging the facts to support the narrative.

It is bad enough that the mainstream media and lawfare campaigns have done the damage you describe. Now that Breitbart has blown his credibility, it will be that much harder to fight this particular set of monsters.

We don't neutralize the poison in the well by pouring in more poison.

#8  Breitbart published the video as he received it, and people in possession of the whole unedited video jumped off the cliff to denounce Sherrod; she was fired by the Administration, not Breitbart, because they can't afford to have anyone look too closely at these people. That's part of the reason they want Breitbart blamed, and when you go along with them in this, you turn yourself into just another tool, snapping your socket onto the end of the ratchet they use to tighten the screws on the rest of us.

_They_ (not Breitbart) fired her because their policies cannot survive scrutiny. Denouncing Breitbart just feeds the monster more raw meat.

See this piece at Riehl World View about the people you're defending as "totally innocent."

#9  Breitbart's article which most never read was all about the audience reaction to what she said and not about what Sherrod said. Everyone assumed a lot and fired the lady and then scrambled and pointed fingers but Breitbart's point is true to this day. When she told the anecdote about denying a white farmer help the audience laughed. Doesn't matter if she came to her senses at the end of the story or not. The audience laughed. That is racism, and that was the point.

#10  I agree with RJ Schwartz. The point that Breitbart was trying to make was about the audience reaction. He makes that abundantly clear in his text above and below the text.

Unfortunately, when people copied the film clip, they left out the accompanying text, and left out the point Breitbart was trying to make.

When the clip "went viral" the NAACP and the White House could have addressed Breitbart's accusations or they could label Shirley Sherrod a "rogue operator" and protect the organization. They chose the latter.

#11  Meanwhile there is video on Flopping Aces of Sherrod's husband being blatantly racist.

“We must stop the white man and his Uncle Toms from stealing our elections.”

#12  tfsm and rj have it right. It is clear that there is much more to come out regarding the Sherrods.

It would still be interesting to know the provenance of the tape as I still suspect it was either someone settling a score or trying to sting Breitbart. In any case, it has mushroomed beyond anyone's initial expectations.

Breitbart's initial target was the racism of the NAACP. And he hinted that he had more tapes. As with the streetwalker videos, he did not put his best stuff out first, and appeared prepared to respond when challenged. Thus far, he comes out of this as the least sullied party. I'd be worried if I were Jealous or the CBC.

#13  If I walk into a place to seek financial relief and that individual latter gives a speech to a room of people of same racial background saying she sent his "high and mighty" self to "his kind", regardless of what she actually did to protect her job standing with the organization she worked for (that does seem to be the only reason she did do something for the farmer) then she deserves to be fired. The NAACP who applauded her degrading remarks about the white farmer was what she was seeking.
