Brooklyn Cops Gun down Black Teen Carrying Loaded 38 for a Friend
Many in the community contest police allegations that Gray pointed a gun at cops when he was shot during a confrontation with two plainclothes officers on E. 52nd St. Saturday night. Those suspicions on the street intensified Wednesday when an autopsy report revealed Gray was hit by seven bullets -- three to the back.

It was not clear in what order the shots struck the teen or whether he had his back to the police when they opened fire.

A woman who identified herself as Gray's cousin told news outlets Wednesday that the teen was carrying a gun for a friend and was trying to alert cops that he had a weapon when he was shot. A loaded .38-caliber revolver was recovered at the scene.

#4  Perhaps three bullets entered his back after the first four spun him around.

Sad situation to be sure. But as RJ says, you pull a gun when a cop is around, you're just begging to be shot -- and you'll usually get your wish.

1. Don't wave a gun at guys with guns.
2. Don't throw rocks at guys with guns.

#9  Dude was a documented gang member. They're giving him the "full Trayvon" - with cute pix from his childhood - NYPost:
Two plain-clothes anti-crime cops got out of an unmarked car and tried to approach Gray who began fiddling with his waistband, police said. The teen turned and pointed a .38 caliber revolver before the two cops fired a total of eleven rounds, police sources said.

A 30-year-old sergeant with eight years on the job shot four times, a source confirmed. A 26-year-old officer who has five years on the job fired seven times, the source added.

“He was facing them when he pointed the gun,” the police source said.

Cops fired from the front and the teen was hit twice in the right thigh. He spun around to get hit in the back of the each thigh, once on the left forearm, once in the lower rib cage and once in the left shoulder, another police source explained.

At least three bullets and one fragment were recovered, officials said.

Family members told the press the teen did not have a gun. Then they said that even if he did, he had too much common sense to point it at police.

Gray, whose pictures show him sporting beads worn by Bloods members, was arrested on almost a dozen charges since turning 16 last year. His arrests include grand and petit larceny, possession of stolen property and inciting a riot.

Police recovered a weapon and said several bullets were missing. It’s not believed that Gray fired on cops.

After a vigil for Gray, protesters rioted, ransacked local stores, attacked a 51-year-old man and hurled several objects at police while shouting about racism.

The sergeant who shot Gray is black and the officer is Hispanic, the Post learned yesterday.

Book Returned to Estonian Library 69 Years Late
[An Nahar] An Estonian man has returned a library book 69 years late, partly blaming a World War II aerial bombing that damaged the library for the late return.

Ivika Turkson of the Tallinn Central Library says that last week the man in his mid-80s returned the overdue book -- which was checked out on March 7, 1944, while Estonia was occupied by Nazi Germany -- along with an apology and an offer to pay a late fee.

Turkson said Tuesday that the library waived any penalty for the late return of the tome, which still contained the original emblem and serial number, allowing librarians to identify it.

It was not immediately clear why the man waited so long to return the book, a work of fiction by Estonian author Eduard Vilde.

Libya arrests six for alcohol poisoning case
[MAGHAREBIA] Libyan authorities incarcerated
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
six people in connection with a mass alcohol poisoning that claimed 79 lives since Saturday, a Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
police official told Libya Herald on Tuesday (March 12th).

"We still do not know what the poison is," Colonel Mahmoud Sharif said. The home-made alcohol is believed to have been tainted with methanol.

Methanol, which is also used as fuel, is often added to "Boukha" to strengthen the alcoholic content. Its health risks include blindness, kidney failure and seizures, and it can be fatal if the methanol content is more concentrated.

According to Health Minister Noureddine Doghman, 709 cases had been reported since Saturday. The corpse count is expected to rise.

Mauritania approves private TV stations
[MAGHAREBIA] Mauritania on Tuesday (March 12th) approved three new private television stations. The High Authority for Press and Broadcasting (HAPA) granted licences to channels "DAVA SA", "Chinguetti TV" and "Al Mourabitoune Television". The move is part of the Mauritania media liberalisation strategy.

In related media news, Mauritanian TV, radio and online reporters recently attended a training course on media safety and journalists' working conditions during conflict and war.

"The course helped Mauritanian journalists acquire security awareness and develop a sense of the dangers that they may face, especially as our region is witnessing special security conditions," Mauritanian Journalists' Syndicate (SJM) chief Houssein Ould Medou said February 25th at the conclusion of the three-day event in Nouakchott.

"Before my participation in this course, I found out how adventurous I had been with my own life during my coverage of events in Libya," TV reporter Mohamed Lamin Ould Abdou told Magharebia. "This is because I didn't abide by the necessary safety procedures."

Baba Ould Maham, a photographer for Sahara Media, has covered wars in Mali, Libya, and elsewhere. He said the course would help him be prepared to face dangerous situations in the future.

"Without any knowledge about first aid, it would be difficult to rescue yourself, your colleague, driver or anyone on your team. This course has taught us all of these skills," he said.

The SJM and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) organised the training programme.

Britain
Lord Ahmed Suspended by Labor for Anti Semitic comments
Followup to the story of earlier today.
Britain's Labour Party has suspended one of its members in the House of Lords amid allegations he blamed a Jewish conspiracy for his prison sentence for dangerous driving.

Nazir Ahmed, 55, was jailed in 2009 for sending text messages shortly before his car was involved in a fatal crash.

The Times of London says that in an Urdu-language TV interview it has obtained, Lord Ahmed blamed his 12-week prison sentence on pressure put on courts by Jewish-owned media organization.

The Labour Party said Thursday it "deplores and does not tolerate" anti-Semitism and is suspending Ahmed pending an investigation.

Ahmed was also suspended from the party last year amid reports he offered a bounty for the capture of President Barack Obama -- comments he denied.

Caribbean-Latin America
Venezuela says embalming of Chavez' body 'unlikely'
The acting president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro has said it is highly unlikely that the body of the former president Hugo Chavez will be embalmed.

Earlier, Mr Maduro had suggested it would be preserved and displayed like Lenin, Ho Chi Minh and Mao Zedong.

Mr Maduro said Russian experts thought it would probably not be possible, as the body had not been properly prepared in time and now presented complexities.

Meanwhile, the official mourning period has been extended until Friday.

After the president's death on 5 March, the government had declared seven days of official mourning.

The United Nations general assembly held a minute of silence for Mr Chavez on Wednesday.
'Assassination plot'

Mr Maduro, who is running for president in the 14 April elections, commented on the deceased leader's embalming during a speech.

"Russian and German scientists have arrived to embalm Chavez and they tell us it's very difficult, because the process should have started earlier, immediately and now it's not possible. We are in the middle of the process, and it's complicated," he told the crowd.

Earlier, the acting president said an alleged plot to murder the opposition presidential candidate, Henrique Capriles, had been discovered.

Mr Maduro said the government would make sure his opponent received police protection.

"(The plan has been) linked to the group of Roger Noriega and Otto Reich in the United States, to make an attempt on the life of the presidential candidate of the opposition."

Earlier in the week, Venezuelan officials said they would set up an inquiry to investigate suspicions that President Hugo Chavez was murdered by foreign agencies.

Venezuela may be unable to embalm Chavez's remains
[Chicago Tribune] Venezuela's government said on Wednesday it may not be possible to embalm the remains of late leader Hugo Chavez as planned because the process should have been started earlier.
Oh, just get a real big jar and lotsa vinegar and pickle him. He'll hold up for years.
Brandy is the traditional method... and smells ever so much better.
Chavez died last week aged 58 after a two-year battle with cancer. His body has been on display in a glass-topped coffin at a grandiose military academy in the capital Caracas, where millions of people have filed past to pay homage.

The government had said it planned to embalm Chavez's remains "for eternity" in much the same way as was done with the remains of Soviet leaders Lenin and Stalin and communist Chinese leader Mao Zedong after they died.

"Russian and German scientists have arrived to embalm Chavez and they tell us it's very difficult because the process should have started earlier ... Maybe we can't do it," acting President Nicolas Maduro said in televised comments on Wednesday.

"We are in the middle of the process. It's complicated, it's my duty to inform you."

Government sources said they expected a formal announcement to be made later this week that, despite the efforts of the team involved, it had not been possible to embalm Chavez.

U.S. heading for top oil producer status
North Dakota is a major player in making the United States the top oil producer in the world.
Don't forget Texas, and Oklahoma, and Wyoming.
"It's a unique situation going on in North Dakota right now actually to broaden it out to North America," said Bob Steede, general manager of Enbridge Pipelines ND.
Which could bring about prosperity and freedom from foreign government dependence.
Despite all the interference from Champ...
"When I was in school we were told that we were going to run out of oil," Steede said. He said reports then were that oil would keep declining over time.
No worries, that's what schools have always taught.

James.... hummm. No. Most of the new oil costs more than a 1.00 a gallon to lift in the crude state, much less refine for your PU. When you consider what a gallon of gasoline or diesel does, it's outlandishly cheap.

While we're at it, movie tickets need to be $ 2.00, and a decent small house should cost $ 50,000.00. You should be able to find a really nice new-ish car for 5,000.00.

At least that's what I think I remember all the prices being back in the days of 1.00 a gallon gas in the 70's.

India-Pakistan
India, China agree to stop tailing each other’s border patrols
In a move to avoid occasional flashpoints in India-China border areas, New Delhi and Beijing have agreed that the soldiers of one country will not tail the patrols of the other along the disputed stretches of the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Tailing of the patrols of one country by the soldiers of the other along the LAC had often heightened tension between the armed forces of India and China, particularly in the areas where the two countries have different perceptions about the alignment of the LAC.

According to diplomatic sources in New Delhi, the two countries discussed the proposal to avoid tailing of patrols when the first meeting of the “Working Mechanism” was held in Beijing in March 2012. Both countries agreed that tailing of patrols might disturb “peace and tranquility” along the LAC and lead to a flashpoint.

When senior diplomats and top military and security officials of India and China met again in New Delhi in November 2012 for the second meeting, they firmed up an agreement for avoiding tailing in the areas where the two countries had no common perception about the LAC.

Transgressions of Indian or Chinese patrols in each other’s territory are often caused by conflicting perceptions about the LAC.

Sources told Deccan Herald that when Indian soldiers patrolling the LAC had earlier transgressed into what China claimed as its territory, they had been stopped by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) personnel. The PLA soldiers had then tailed the Indian patrol as long as it had been in the territory they perceived as Chinese. Indian soldiers had done the same when they had spotted Chinese troops coming into the area they perceived as part of India.

“There was always a risk that such actions by each other’s soldiers might result in a confrontation,” said a senior official. He added, “What has now been decided is that the soldiers of one country would not tail, but just ask the transgressing patrol of the other to stop and go back.”

Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur recently informed the Lok Sabha that India and China have reached an agreement to put an end to the practice of tailing of the soldiers after setting up the “Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on Border Affairs.”

“This measure contributes to the maintenance of peace and tranquility in the India-China border area,” she stated in a written reply to a question in the House.
India and China agreed to set up the “Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on Border Affairs” in January 2012, when the Special Representatives of the two countries—National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon and his counterpart Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo—had the 15th round of talks on the boundary issue in New Delhi.

Soldier stoned to death in Kurram for alleged love affair: report
[Dawn] A soldier has been stoned to death in Pakistan's restive tribal northwest over allegations of an affair with a teenage girl, officials told AFP on Wednesday.

A tribal council in the town of Parachinar, close to the Afghan border in Kurram district, ordered the sentence on Anwar-ud Din, who was about 25 years old, for having "illicit relations" with a local girl.

"There were some 40 to 50 people who hit the man with stones till he bled to death," a local tribesman told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Relations between men and women without family approval are considered immoral by many in Pakistan, particularly in the deeply conservative northwestern tribal areas, where Taliban and Al Qaeda linked militants have strongholds.

Hundreds are killed around the country each year in the name of defending family "honour", but stonings are extremely rare.

Din was accused of having an affair with an 18-year-old girl and meeting her secretly, but both were caught on Sunday in a graveyard, the tribesman told AFP.

The soldier admitted he had met the girl three or more times before and the punishment was carried out on Tuesday in the graveyard where the pair were discovered, the tribesman said, adding that the body was later taken to hospital.

Local government and security officials confirmed the incident, but declined to comment.

The fate of the girl remains unclear, but there were rumours in the area that she may also have been executed, although she denied the affair, the tribesman said.

A hospital official confirmed that they had received a mutilated body on Tuesday, which was later taken away by paramilitary forces.

"It was really a horrific sight. The body had been badly damaged after being hit by stones. Wounds all over and the face could no longer be recognised," the official said.

#3  Sweety needs to put a cork in it. Fifteen children and "somebody" ELSE needs to be responsible for that?

Yeah, "somebody" I got news for the nice lady with her pants down, "somebody" is on a trip and he won't be in any hurry to come back and pay your bills.

The real world does not reward the stupid. And if you pray real hard "somebody" up there usually IGNORES you too. Stupid just isn't the answer.

Hello, bright eyes. Tell it to the Sahel and the flies.

I am heartless and you are stupid. Who do you think will win?

This is what you get when you reward bad behavior.

#6  After the redistributionists implode the economic system, you'll need skills or assets to survive. Having the government as your 'breadwinner' will not be a survivable strategy.

#7  Frank G.
You got that right.

Long ago I worked for Social Security when they started SSI. The stories I heard were mind boggling. Some were so bad that they turned some Ivy League co-eds from limosine liberals to flaming Nazis.

There was actually a table set up in the lobby by one of what passed for activists back then explaing in detail how to game the system. The NYC welfare office was in on it too sending all their folks to the feds.

It was so bad that I actually had a compassion attack. (it went away after I laid down for a while)

#10  After the redistributionists implode the economic system, you'll need skills or assets to survive.

Unless it gets so bad that assets are devalued/confiscated and those with abilities enslaved (or effectively so.) Of course that is why the 2nd Amendment exists - for now.

#11  ...300 million weapons in the hands of the American public. A shrinking regular Army establishment going under 500,000 again. They couldn't control Iraq without the help of the locals. They haven't controlled Afghanistan except where the locals cooperated. How are they going to control a continent?
