Woman Calls 911, Asks Police For Help Getting Refund From Her Drug Dealer
After handing over her last $50 to a drug dealer for cocaine and marijuana, a Florida woman suffering from buyer’s remorse called 911 and asked cops for help in securing a refund.
Did she save her receipt?
Katrina Tisdale, 47, explained to St. Petersburg police that she would be penniless until her next Social Security disability check arrived.
She's disabled all right - mentally.
Hence the pressing need to recover her $50 from the unnamed narcotics salesman.

According to jail records, Tisdale has been arrested many times over the past several years, including six arrests for cocaine possession. Tisdale was convicted in mid-2011 of calling 911 to falsely report that she had been robbed by her drug dealer.
She needs to get a new dealer.

ABBA The Museum to Open in Stockholm
[An Nahar] Fans of the legendary Swedish disco group ABBA can hardly wait: in just a few weeks, Stockholm will open the doors to the world's first museum dedicated to the iconic foursome.

After "ABBA The Movie" in 1977, the "Mamma Mia" musical and movie, and a 2010 travelling museum exhibit, the world's first permanent ABBA museum will open in central Stockholm on May 7.

"We're going to offer visitors a unique experience," museum director Mattias Hansson tells Agence La Belle France Presse, revealing that they may even get a chance to speak live with a band member.

After months of construction, the modern, blonde wood building in the leafy Djurgaarden neighborhood is nearing completion.

As opening day looms, convoys of trucks roll up to the site to deliver the furnishings and items that will make up the collection: flamboyant sequined costumes, gold records, and recreations of their recording studio and dressing rooms, among other things.

Workers bustle to finish what will be a temple to the creators of some of the biggest hits of the 1970s, including Voulez Vous, Dancing Queen and Waterloo, the song that won the band the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest and thrust them onto the international scene.

Egypt ex-Finance Minister Gets Life in Absentia
[An Nahar] A Cairo court on Tuesday sentenced Egypt's former finance minister Youssef Boutros-Ghali to life in prison in absentia on corruption charges, judicial sources said.

Boutros-Ghali, who served as finance minister under ousted president Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
, is accused of squandering public funds to the value of 20 million Egyptian pounds (almost $3 million), the court said.

After fleeing Egypt in 2011, he was sentenced to 30 years in absentia in a separate fraud case.

Boutros-Ghali, the nephew of former U.N. secretary general Boutros Boutros-Ghali,
Boutros is the one who was gifted $100,000 from Grandmaw, who fell down an elevator shaft when they started investigating the transaction.
is one of a string of Mubarak-era ministers to face justice as part of a sweeping probe into fraud by Egypt's former leaders that followed the uprising.

Mubarak himself is to face a new trial in May over his alleged complicity in the murder and attempted murder of peaceful protesters during the uprising.

Prince Harry to be deployed with Aust army
Prince Harry is set to spend six months on secondment with the Australian Army.

The Department of Defence, British Army and Clarence House in London are discussing where and when the deployment would occur, and whether Prince Harry would serve on the frontline, News Ltd reports.

The 28-year-old Apache attack helicopter co-pilot could be formally embedded with an Australian army unit or make an extended visit as an observer under the plan.

He has reportedly said he is keen to serve alongside Australian soldiers.

Prince Harry, who is a captain in the Cavalry Regiment, has already had two deployments in Afghanistan.

The prince is unlikely to get another turn flying in Afghanistan again before all foreign combat troops withdraw by the end of 2014.

New Refineries in North Dakota
The Three Affiliated Tribes is planning to break ground this spring on a $400 million refinery near Makoti.
Could be old news here, I was tipped off by my April 3 civil engineering news blog, and I'm catching up.
The project's chief executive said that the Thunder Butte Petroleum Services refinery will be capable of turning 20,000 barrels per day of Bakken crude oil into diesel fuel, propane and naphtha.

The tribes began working on the refinery project about 10 years ago. The project has taken extensive time because of the various federal permits and other approvals the tribes are required for the project.
Tribes aren't soverign, anymore?
Ground was broken last week on the Dakota Prairie Refinery west of Dickinson, and another refinery is proposed in the Trenton area. The Tesoro Mandan Refinery at Mandan is currently North Dakota's only refinery.

#1  Tribes aren't soverign, anymore?
Their sovereignty is limited under federal law. One thing tribes are generally NOT subject to are nuisance lawsuits filed below the federal level, which would otherwise be expected in any proposal to build a new refinery. These lawsuits might still be filed, but they would be thrown out of court.
A tribe I know of in Michigan has rented out space on their water tower for cell phone companies and local law enforcement agencies to rig their radio antennas and repeater sites. The local non-Indian citizens had been suing to prevent these antennas from being erected anywhere in the county, for the usual enviro-crazy and NIMBY reasons. However, they had no control over what the local tribe did, which was (ultimately) to make a little extra money.

#2  That is a mighty expensive refinery for the capacity. I am very surprised they've received financing. This article could reflect wishing, re the spring ground breaking.

#3  This article could reflect wishing, re the spring ground breaking. I've read a lot in financial circles, saying that building new refineries is not likely to pay off in the long run, unless new super giant oil fields are discovered.

#4  20000 BOPD is not very big & the Bakken development should have a long 'tail' even if peak production fades (don't know) so could be a good plan if only to save on the round trip transportation costs for local consumption.

#5  Right now, the BNSF is transporting up to a million barrels a month of Bakken crude to various refineries around the country; The one in Anacortes, WA is receiving at least 6- 125 car trains a week. And the RR is way under resourced to haul more ( no more cars, tracks aT capacity, and with the various pipelines being blocked by Barry and the enviro-weenies not helping) this refinery is one small step.....

Activists threaten massive protests over Keystone XL
[CHRON] Environmentalists opposed to the Keystone XL pipeline are pledging to turn up the heat on President Barack Obama
Ready to Rule from Day One...
by risking arrest through acts of civil disobedience at fundraisers, political meetings and federal agency offices.

The planned protests are designed to build political pressure as Obama nears a final decision on the project. They illustrate the political challenge facing Obama, who risks alienating at least one key Democratic base - environmentalists or labor unions - no matter what he decides.

Becky Bond, the political director of the progressive group CREDO, which is organizing the threatened protests, says environmentalists will hold Obama accountable.

"We see it as being incumbent upon us as citizens to send a message that the president cannot ignore," Bond told news hounds during a conference call Monday.

#3  Tell the protesters that if they are really serious about global warming to start walking or riding horses everywhere, disconnect from the internet, turn off the gas for heat, turn off the electricity and start growing veggies in their Zen garden.

Oh and start killing small animals to eat instead of all of those methane producing cows.

Or start eating only raw veggies grown with cow manure...oops....horse manure.

These morons have no concept of the end results of what they request.

IT office scene Lawyers' assault leads to clash
[Dawn] Employees of the Income Tax Department went on strike after a group of lawyers 'manhandled' an additional commissioner and ransacked his office on Monday.

The lawyers alleged that Additional Commissioner Farrukh Majeed demanded illegal gratification to give them relief in a case. The other side claimed that the lawyers turned violent when the additional commissioner refused to admit their 'illegal' demand.

Eyewitnesses said the employees of the tax office also attacked lawyers when the black coats manhandled the additional commissioner and broke window panes of his office. Some lawyers suffered minor injuries during the scuffle.

The lawyers took out a protest rally and blocked Mauj Darya Road (outside Tax House). They also filed an application to the police for registration of a case.

Later, the office-bearers of the Lahore Tax Bar met Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial and sought strict action against the commissioner and the employees of the tax office. The CJ summoned details of the incident and asked the lawyers to remain calm.

Myanmar Frees Dozens of Political Prisoners
[An Nahar] Myanmar on Tuesday pardoned dozens of political prisoners, activists said, a day after the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
agreed to end almost all sanctions against the former pariah state.

At least 59 political prisoners were included in the latest amnesty, Bo Kyi of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma) told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"More than 200 political prisoners are still in prison," he added. "Political prisoners should be recognized as political prisoners and be released unconditionally."

The amnesty included 40 former rebels from eastern Shan state tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
for drug trafficking, he said, describing them as "victims of politics".

Another activist, Nyan Lin from the 88 Generation group, confirmed that at least 30 political prisoners were released.

His figure included 17 Mohammedans incarcerated
Please don't kill me!
and charged under the emergency act after religious festivities in the central town of Kyaukse in 2003.

A Myanmar government official told AFP that in total 93 inmates -- including three foreigners -- were pardoned, but did not identify them.

Samurai sword-wielding Mormon bishop comes to aid of woman being attacked
h/t Instapundit
A Samurai sword-wielding Mormon bishop helped a neighbor woman escape a Tuesday morning attack by a man who had been stalking her.

Kent Hendrix woke up Tuesday to his teenage son pounding on his bedroom door and telling him somebody was being mugged in front of their house. The 47-year-old father of six rushed out the door and grabbed the weapon closest to him -- a 29-inch high carbon steel Samurai sword.

He came upon what he describes as a melee between a woman and a man. His son stayed inside to call 911 while he approached the man along with other neighbors who came to help. The martial arts instructor didn't hesitate in drawing the sword and yelling at him to get on the ground.

"His eyes got as big as saucers and he kind of gasped and jumped back," Hendrix said by phone Tuesday afternoon. "He's probably never had anyone draw a sword on him before."
Stranger than fiction

#10  There is an Urban Legend among members of the Society for Creative Anachronism (How to recreate the Middle Ages without plagues, malnutrition, and outdoor plumbing). It's the story of Rodney the Rusty, and it goes like this:

In the 1970s, Rodney once used a patch of his chain mail to help scour a kettle once. In doing so, he wore the galvanizing off the metal rings and thereby earned himself the sobriquet of Rusty. He was leaving a dinner in Chicago, in costume, wearing a cloak and carrying a costume sword under it. A mugger jumped out at him and threatened him, saying, "Want six inches of steel in your ribs?" Rodney threw back his cloak, drew his sword, and shouted, "See your six and raise you thirty!"
