The Fix Was In
By Andrew C. McCarthy
An excerpt from a very interesting Comey friend. Read the whole thing.
[NationalReview] Yes, the Fix Was In

These columns have repeatedly pointed out that the decision whether to indict Hillary Clinton for mishandling classified information was not the FBI’s call. It was up to the Obama Justice Department, which was in the tank for Mrs. Clinton and was taking direction from President Obama. In April 2016, Obama publicly stated that he did not want his party’s inevitable nominee charged with a crime.
In making that assertion, Obama distorted the Espionage Act, falsely implying that it required proof of intent to harm the United States before someone could be convicted of mishandling classified information. To the contrary, the law holds that a person is guilty (1) if she willfully causes the unauthorized transmission of classified information ‐ meaning if she understands the wrongfulness of the action and intentionally performs it anyway ‐ or (2) if through "gross negligence" she permits the information to be removed from its proper place or to be otherwise mishandled (see Section 793(d), (e), and (f) of Title 18, U.S. Code). The Justice Department adopted Obama’s erroneous intent standard, as, ultimately, did Comey.

The former director’s statements in the Brett Baier interview firmly establish that the decision not to indict Mrs. Clinton was based on Obama Justice Department standards, not on the terms of the statute.

For example, when asked why he was confident, long before Clinton was even interviewed, that she would not be charged, Comey said the investigators working the case told him, "Look boss, on the current course and speed, it looks like it’s not gonna get to a place where the prosecutors would bring it." It was not that the evidence was insufficient under the law; it was that the Justice Department would not indict.

Baier then played a now-familiar recording of Comey, under questioning by Representative Trey Gowdy (R., S.C.), conceding that Clinton had made various false claims about her emails (no emails "marked ’classified,’" no classified emails sent or stored, all work-related emails returned to the State Department). Baier then asked why, despite this pattern, Comey had made his decision against charges even before Clinton was questioned. While denying that he had made a final decision at that point, he said he had a "general sense" that the evidence was "unlikely to get us to a place where they would prosecute at the Justice Department."

#4  Comey admits the fix was in w/re to Clinton's emails. Moreover, the fix was in at the highest level (Obama) and directed downwards through the DOJ. Lynch said she would abide by Comey's decision (if anyone believes that--after all, he reported to her). If Comey had such a crisis of consciousness, why didn't he resign from director of the FBI? McCarthy acknowledges there is a double standard for justice; one for Trump and another for HRC.

Comey Did Not Leak Classified Information.
Then why is the memo marked Secret and parts of it redacted out?

POTUS has executive privilege; the privilege is not accorded to Comey. By releasing the memos of a private conversation, is Comey not denying Trump his executive privilege. Obama exercised his executive privilege when Eric Holder was charged with criminal perjury for lying to Congress about F&F. Obama exercised his executive privilege to not have the DOJ prosecute Holder who was the AG and the head of DOJ thus creating a legal ClusterF*&%.

Hopefully, the DOJ is cleaning up this legal mess. It seems like the best way to clean it up is to charge Comey (if he has not already been charged) and let the courts decide the legality of this rather than speculate.

I can't speak for others, but I for one would like to see the rule of law re-established and justice done.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian protesters are being shot in their legs by Israeli soldiers, and some face amputation

Weepy story about accurate fire from IDF snipers. Play stupid games, win stoopid prizes. Maybe they should go for head shots, WaPo?
If they shot them in their heads they wouldn't require amputation, would they? Some people are never happy.
[Jeff Bezos' WaPo] Mohammad "Peg" al-Ajouri is a lanky teenager who loves loved to run, a medal-winning track star with ambitions to compete abroad.

But last month, while participating in a protest along Gaza's border, he was struck by a bullet fired by an Israeli soldier. It penetrated his calf, shattering his leg before exiting the shin. Doctors tried to save the limb, but an infection soon spread. The leg had to be amputated.

During the past month of demonstrations along the border between Gaza and Israel, at least 17 Palestinians have suffered gunshot wounds that ultimately cost them their legs, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza.

In at least three of the cases, Israeli authorities rejected the transfer of wounded Gazans to the West Bank, where they could receive medical care that might have saved their limbs, according to lawyers and one of the patients' families.

Since the protests began, Israeli troops have killed 43 Palestinians and wounded more than 3,500 with live ammunition, rubber bullets or shrapnel, the Health Ministry said. Of those, about 2,200 have suffered injuries to the legs.

Israeli officials say the protests along the border fence are violent and provide cover for militant attacks. Israeli media report that troops have been ordered to initially fire warning shots at demonstrators, after which they should target protesters' legs.

"IDF troops act according to clear rules of engagement that are tailored to the scenarios they are contending with," a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces said. The spokesman declined to detail those rules but said live fire is a last resort.

They hate YOU because you don't vote how they tell you.
They hate YOU because you publicly disagree with them.
When Colbert is bashing Trump his contempt is for YOU the people who voted for him.

Remember now and always the MSM, Hollywood, and the DC elites since the 60's have been calling YOU racists, sexist, theocrats, hatemongers etc.

They encouraged the BLM riots and cheered as people were attacked and neighborhoods burned.

They encourage and PAID thugs to attack Trump supporters at rallies.

THEY ENCOURAGE VIOLENCE AGAINST YOU!

#14  #4 Somebody approved the routine. Lets talk with it.

The WHCD is sponsored by the White House Correspondents' Association; an association made up of left-leaning correspondents. The left lean has been going on for sometime now. At one time, a person could find newspapers that were conservative. Many of these have disappeared. Over the years there has been a "media consolidation" going on. In the early 1980s, 90% of the media was owned by 50 companies. In 2012, 90% of the media was owned by 6 companies. Consolidation of media. This consolidation made it much easier to control the media.

If you control the media, you can control the message. Most of the current MSM spews out propaganda rather than news or fact-based information. Couple all this with what Herb McCoy said, and it is not a surprise that we are where we are.

The faculties and administration of most universities are left-wing. It is no surprise that journalism schools are also left wing. They turn out budding left wing journalists.

International-UN-NGOs
State Dept. Complicit in Weaponizing UN Against Israel
[NewsMax] On April 18, 2018, 51 Members of Congress signed a letter to President Trump requesting that he order the declassification of a document which was classified "despite no apparent national security threat or known historical precedent for classifying such a report."

...The document in question is a 2015 State Department report drawn up pursuant to a 2012 directive from Congress to account for how the billions of U.S. tax payer dollars, allocated to UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) ‐ the entity charged with dealing with the "Palestinian refugees" ‐ were being used ... or perhaps, abused.

...To fully grasp the scope and significance of the UNRWA/Palestinian anomaly, one must realize that all refugees on the face of the globe ‐ whether because of famine, earthquakes, tsunamis, political repression or warfare ‐ are under the auspices of the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) ‐ except for the Palestinians. They have a specially designated UN body ‐ UNRWA ‐ to deal exclusively with their affairs.

The two bodies have very different definitions of who is a refugee, and very different mandates of how to deal with them. In broad brush strokes, according to the generally applicable UNHCR definition, refugee status is not hereditary and cannot be transferred to descendants of the originally displaced/expelled individuals; while according to the Palestinian-specific UNRWA definition, it is hereditary, and can be transferred to descendants.

...Much has been written about UNRWA’s pernicious behavior ‐ employing known members of terror organizations such as Hamas, allowing its installations and vehicles to be used by such organizations and disseminating vicious Judeophobic incitement in its school curricula. But beyond its malicious misconduct and abuse of its UN credentials, the most sinister aspect of UNRWA is in its inherent nature and its underlying raison d’etre.

For in essence, UNRWA exists to perpetuate the myth of "Return" ‐ whereby millions of Palestinians-Arabs will return to inundate Israel and effectively eliminate it as the nation-state of the Jewish people.
And that's why everybody loves it!

University of Texas to Treat Masculinity as a 'Mental Health' Issue
[PJMedia] The Counseling and Mental Health Center at the University of Texas at Austin recently launched a new program to help male students "take control over their gender identity and develop a healthy sense of masculinity."

Treating masculinity as if it were a mental health crisis, "MasculinUT" is organized by the school’s counseling staff and most recently organized a poster series encouraging students to develop a "healthy model of masculinity."

The program is predicated on a critique of so-called "restrictive masculinity." Men, the program argues, suffer when they are told to "act like a man" or when they are encouraged to fulfill traditional gender roles, such as being "successful" or "the breadwinner."
They just don't want any men competing in white collar market.

Democrat Fake News: Secret Service Shreds Another Allegation Against Ronny Jackson
[Townhall] Read Admiral Ronny Jackson, the personal physician to President Trump and former President Obama, may have withdrawn his nomination for Veterans Affairs secretary, but we’re now discovering that the allegations of impropriety, drunkenness, and pill pushing may have been both overblown and untrue. CNN’s Dana Bash and David Gregory warned against the allegation of Dr. Jackson being some "candyman," doling out medication because other White House doctors have done this. Second, the allegations that he was drunk and wrecked a government vehicle, and that he banged so heavily on a female colleague’s door while on a foreign visit, which prompted the Secret Service to intervene, also appears to be false. There is no evidence to corroborateboth claims according the Secret Service. Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), who appears to be peddling fake newsabout the rear admiral, lobbed these allegations against Jackson (via ABC News):

Judge puts Stormy Daniels' lawsuit against Trump lawyer on hold
Adult-film star Stormy Daniels' lawsuit against US President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, will be paused for 90 days, the federal judge in the case ordered on Friday, saying that Cohen's constitutional rights could be endangered if the lawsuit proceeds while he is under criminal investigation.

"The court finds that there is a large potential factual overlap between the civil and criminal proceedings that would heavily implicate Mr Cohen's Fifth Amendment rights," District Judge James Otero wrote in the order, referring to the Constitution's protection against self-incrimination.

Cohen has admitted paying $130,000 to Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, to secure her silence about having sex with Trump, which he denies. Cohen said the payment was legal, and Daniels has sued to end her nondisclosure agreement.

Wolf then bashed the "homophobic psychopaths" in the White House, saying it Vice President Pence ended up as president, he would put gay people in "concentration camps."

"I just want to cut through it all and keep it very real with people about what we’re up against," said Wolf. "We have homophobic psychopaths running the United States government today. That’s the reality."

"We have a secretary of state, as was mentioned, that believes that gay people are sinners based on who they are. If Mike Pence, God bless him, ended up in the White House, sitting behind that desk in the Oval Office, he would have us all in concentration camps hoping to pray away the gay."

Ex-Feinstein Staffer Hired Steele, Fusion GPS After Election to Keep ‘Exposing' Russian Meddling
[Breitbart] The House Intelligence Committee report released on Friday contained a new bombshell: after the 2016 election, wealthy donors paid a former Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) staffer $50 million to continue "exposing" Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Dan Jones, a former Democratic Senate Intelligence Committee staffer and former FBI official, then hired author Christopher Steele and Fusion GPS ‐ whose research formed the Trump dossier ‐ to help him do that, and to give whatever they found to "policymakers on Capitol Hill and the press."

The House report revealed for the first time that Jones told the FBI in late March 2017 that his group, the Penn Quarter Group, was being paid by seven to ten wealthy donors "located primarily in New York and California," who provided approximately $50 million.

The revelation showed the extent that Democrats have been willing to go behind-the-scenes to validate the dossier ‐ which ironically was also funded secretly by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

Jones’ role was noted in a footnote in the report, which is the product of the committee’s investigation into Russian meddling and any collusion.

#1  Freebeacon - Democratic Donors Paid $50 million for New Anti-Trump Research

Excerpt:

"In late March 2017, Jones met with FBI regarding PQG, which he described as ‘exposing foreign influence in Western elections,'" the report said.

Jones was described as the chief author of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence study of the CIA's terrorist detention and interrogation program and a former employee of the Daschle Group.

Jones's name appears to be blacked out in the footnote in several places but was identified in one sentence.

The report said the FBI was told that PQG was being funded by 7 to 10 wealthy donors located primarily in New York and California who provided about $50 million for the research.

The donors were not identified in the report.

Emphasis added.

Once again, an IRS investigation should clearly reveal the financial details and backers of groups such as PQG. But according to former FBI Director Comey's recent Bret Baier interview, he had no idea who was funding the dossier research.

Unusual Eruptions at World's Largest Active Geyser in Yellowstone
(Reuters) - The world's largest active geyser has erupted three times in the past six weeks at Yellowstone National Park, including once this week, in a pattern that is unusual but not at all indicative of a more destructive volcanic eruption brewing beneath Wyoming, geologists said on Saturday.

Steamboat Geyser, which can shoot water as high as 300 feet (91 meters) into the air, erupted on March 15, April 19 and on Friday. The last time it erupted three times in a year was in 2003, the U.S. Geological Survey's Yellowstone Volcano Observatory said.

The last time it erupted prior to March was more than three years ago in September 2014.

"There is nothing to indicate that any sort of volcanic eruption is imminent," Michael Poland, the scientist in charge for the observatory, said in an email.

This year's eruptions have been smaller than a usual Steamboat eruption, but the two in April were about 10 times larger than an eruption at the park's famed Old Faithful Geyser in terms on the amount of water discharged, he said.

Geologists have not pinpointed a reason for the latest series of eruptions, but say they could indicate a thermal disturbance in the geyser basin, or that Steamboat may be having smaller eruptions instead of one large.

Since most geysers do not erupt on a regular schedule, "it might just reflect the randomness of geysers," Poland said.

#1  Geologists have not pinpointed a reason for the latest series of eruptions

Must have been educated at US institutions. Coolest winters in a long time resulting in lower temps with hot molten lava in the earths core causes geological stress on the earths crust, widening faults, letting in water which turns to steam when it hits the core.

If we are in a cooling cycle, natives beware.

Two ISIS Women Land in Germany after Release from Iraqi Prisons
[AAWSAT] Two German ISIS women with their three children have arrived in Frankfurt, after being held in a prison in the Kurdish capital Erbil.

German newspaper Die Welt cited in its Friday issue reliable security circles, that the two ISIS women arrived at the Frankfurt International Airport a day earlier.

German authorities allowed the two women to take their children after undergoing a DNA screening to prove maternity, the newspaper said.

The two women and their young children were transported to Germany on an Iraqi Airways flight, and were accompanied by Germany’s Federal Criminal Police. They are expected to be referred to special guidance committees.

Die Welt sources confirmed that the two women were released and that the Federal Public Prosecution failed to obtain an arrest warrant against them.

However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
the Supreme Court authorized federal police to search and interrogate the two women upon arrival in Frankfurt.

Last year, Germany’s Attorney General Peter Frank confirmed that he had zero tolerance policy against German ISIS members who had voluntarily joined the terrorist organizations and then returned from combat zones in Syria and Iraq.

However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
the Federal Court rejected their request for detention because there were insufficient evidence of their support for the terrorist organization.

The court distinguishes between male combat duties in ISIS and the duties of others who join but conduct activity limited to childcare and housekeeping. It considers that German penal laws do not apply to such activity.

Frank challenged the court's decision in January, but federal court judges have not yet ruled on the case until the arrival of the two women to Germany.

According to Die Welt’s report, there are over 80 Germans who are currently imprisoned in northern Syria and Iraq. Women prisoners have many children, some of whom were born in the war-torn countries and in captivity.

So far 10 children have been repatriated to Germany after undergoing DNA analyses to prove their links to the German so-called "jihadi" women detained abroad.

Egypt's Court of Cassation upholds death sentence for 6 people in 2013 Minya police station storming case
More soon-to-be dead and jailed Muslim Brotherhooders, and good riddance to them.
[AlAhram] Egypt's Court of Cassation upheld a final death sentence Saturday handed down to six people for crimes relating to the storming of a cop shoppe in Upper Egypt's Minya in 2013.

The court also uphold jail sentences for 59 people, acquitting 47 others in the 2013 case, which included various acts of violence, including murder, as well as setting Matay Police Station on fire.

The sentences are final and cannot be appealed.

In August 2017, Minya Criminal Court handed down 12 death sentences and 119 life terms for crimes relating to the storming of the cop shoppe.

The deputy chief of the cop shoppe was killed in the violence.

The defendants in the Minya case were initially charged with murder, attempted murder, rioting, illegal assembly, disturbing the public peace, and damaging public and private property.

The incident followed the forced dispersal of mass sit-ins in Cairo's Rabaa El-Adawiya and El-Nahda squares in August 2013 following the ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi amid mass protests against Moslem Brüderbund rule.

Following the dispersal, angry rioters stormed cop shoppes and burned a number of churches in various locations across Egypt.

'Eradicate the tumours': Chinese civilians drive Xinjiang crackdown
In which the Uighurs get it. A follow up to this report from February. Probably the events described herein are connected to the actions of the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) (also known as the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM)), a Uighur jihadi group fighting alongside al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan whose heart’s desire is a caliphate back home in Xinjiang, though the article does not mention them.
[SinoDaily] The civilian group descended on the village under government instructions to "win the people's hearts", but it also had a darker mission: identifying and punishing threats to the Chinese state.

Four months after the Communist Party sent the "work team" to Akeqie Kanle, a fifth of its adult population -- over 100 people -- had disappeared into detention and re-education centres.

The team -- comprising staff from a regional university -- was among more than 10,000 such groups that poured into rural Xinjiang last year as part of the government's battle against separatism and "religious extremism" in the region, home to several Muslim ethnic minority groups.

Africa: Uganda's Oldest Chimpanzee Zakayo Is Dead
[All Africa] Uganda's conservation has been hit by yet another blow with the death of the oldest chimpanzee.

Zakayo 54 years, Uganda's known oldest chimpanzee died at the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC).

This has been confirmed by the centre's executive director James Musinguzi.

Speaking to Daily Monitor, Musinguzi said Zakayo started feeling unwell about 3 weeks ago and has been on treatment until yesterday.

Preliminary findings indicate that he succumbed to Chronic Gastroenteritis.

"Due to his old age, he was highly susceptible to opportunistic infections. Please join us as we celebrate the life of this legendary chimpanzee who once lived as a dominant male and brought up the chimpanzee family at UWEC," said Musinguzi.

According to Musinguzi, Zakayo nurtured two Alpha male chimpanzees, Matooke, who led the group up to 2013, and Aluma who took over in 2013 up to today.

Zakayo adopted
Zakayo was found abandoned on June 10, 1964 in Semiliki National Park in Bundibugyo District and was hand raised by a white man who surrendered him to UWEC on June 19, 1976 as he was becoming aggressive and difficult to manage. He used to stay in a cage and visitors would tease him, offer him cigarettes and alcohol, which would make him very excited.

Although Zakayo had by 2012 lost his alpha male position he still commanded a lot of respect from the group, instilling order and peace when there were group fights and made sure that everyone entered the enclosure or exited it before he did, which defined his caring character.

Kabul police rejects rumors regarding the discovery of mass grave
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Kabul police officials have rejected the rumors regarding the discovery of a mass grave as the reports have caused panic among some residents of the capital.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials said reports and rumors circulate on social media sites suggesting that a mass grave has been discovered in capital Kabul.

The officials further added that such reports are not true and are baseless as no mass grave has been found in the capital.

Reports regarding the discovery of a mass grave in Kabul emerge as similar graves have been found in the capital and other parts of the country in the past.

Such graves normally contain the victims who were killed during the civil war although mass graves of the victims of terror groups have also been found during the recent months and years.

Mac's intended actions weren't meant so much to win the war as punish the Chinese for having the colossal nerve to embarrass him, and he was starting to imply that he would do what he felt was tactically necessary, instead of following orders from Washington. MacArthur was never as good as his press agents made him out to be, and by firing him Truman did us a favor. YMMV, of course.

Benito lives! The Blackshirts are here. Fascism is on the march—at least according to Madeleine Albright, secretary of state under Bill Clinton and—in my book, having allowed Albanian gangsters to win power in Kosovo—the worst American foreign minister ever. She attacks Hungary and Poland, the left’s newest whipping boys, for preferring their own kind to African migrants, but she’s not alone. The usual suspects are all piling on. Fascism is back, but this time, alas, without the beautiful uniforms. Damn!

La Albright was taken to task a long time ago by Barbara Amiel for pretending she did not know she was Jewish—until Washington beckoned. “Hasn’t she ever looked in the mirror?” wrote Barbara, Lady Black, herself very proud to be Jewish. I hope I’m not picking on Albright, a typical Washington phony, obsequious to the trendy left. I just don’t like her choice of words. Fascism comes with large crowds, larger buildings, flared breeches, shiny boots, and lotsa horses on parade. And plumes, lots of plumes. I don’t see any of that, and I can’t even hear the marching bands, let alone see them. Like all lefties, this woman is full of bullshit. If fascism is on the march, I’m Bill Cosby. Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
with more than 800 donkey and dog hides at a warehouse in Korangi Industrial Area a day earlier, DawnNewsTV reported.

On Friday, the police, acting on a complaint, had conducted the raid and arrested the duo, one of whom is an Afghan national. They had allegedly stocked more than 200 sacks filled with illegal animal hides.

The police had said that the hides were smuggled from Afghanistan and also collected from different areas of Pakistain with the intent of dispatching them to China.

One of the suspects had told the police that the animals were slaughtered in different areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, which is where their meat was also sold off.

The police, however, had suspected that the meat may also have been sold to hotels in Karachi, including those in posh areas.

The suspect had maintained his innocence, claiming they were not aware that the hides were of haram (prohibited in Islam) animals.

"I do not know where these hides are from and who they belong to," the suspect had said. "I have been working at this warehouse for 32 years; we only receive Rs5 per hide.

"We got these hides just last night and were told to move them to a different warehouse. We moved them and that's when the raid took place."

The Fourth Schedule is a list of "proscribed" individuals who are suspected of terrorism or those who are affiliated with organizations suspected to be involved in terrorism or sectarianism.

"We have recommended 15 persons from South, 10 from East and 12 from West districts of Karachi to be kept under surveillance under Section 11EE of the ATA," said Mr Abbasi.

Suicide Bomber Kills Army Officers in Somalia
[AAWSAT] A jacket wallah went kaboom! in a military camp in the Somali town of Galkayo on Saturday, killing four officers, officials said, an attack claimed by the al-Qaeda-linked Shabaab group.

The camp houses a force made up of soldiers from the country's semi-autonomous regions of Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
and Galmudug
...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth...
who have been integrated into the federal army under efforts to unite the fractured country.

The dead included a military commander and two colonels, Galkayo's mayor, Hirsi Yusuf Barre, told Rooters.

"The corpse count may rise," police officer Abdirahman Haji said.

Shabaab’s military operation front man, Abdiasis Abu Musab, said the hard boy group killed five people in the attack.

Iraq
Iraqi voters condemn old faces' new election bid
[DAWN] Only a decade after their country's first ever multi-party elections, disenchanted Iraqis say "the same old faces" with their vested interests have been running the show since the fall of dictator Saddam Hussein.

"How long have Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Ayad Allawi, Nuri al-Maliki or Haider al-Abadi been in power? One minute as MPs, the next as ministers," said Midan al-Hamadani, listing Iraq's foreign minister, vice president, ex-prime minister and current premier.

"The parties are always the same and the same people come back to power, whether we like it or not," said the 40-year-old Baghdad resident.

Widespread corruption combined with failings in basic services such as water, electricity and transportation have reinforced the public's lack of faith in Iraq's politicians.

In a country with a long history of conflict and intercommunal violence, more than 24 million Iraqis are registered to elect 320 deputies from a field of around 7,000 candidates on May 12, with 71 seats reserved for the capital.

Thousands flee fresh clashes in northern Myanmar: UN
[DAWN] Thousands of people have fled renewed fighting between Myanmar's army and ethnic bandidos myrmidons in the country's remote north, a United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
official said, as a long-simmering conflict intensifies.

More than 4,000 people have been displaced in Myanmar's northernmost state of Kachin near the border with China in the last three weeks, Mark Cutts, the head of the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), told AFP late Friday.

The numbers do not include some 15,000 people who have fled since the beginning of the year and upwards of 90,000 residing in IDP (internally displaced persons) camps in both Kachin and Shan states since a ceasefire between the government and the powerful Kachin Independence Army broke down in 2011.

"We have received reports from local organizations saying that there are still many civilians who remain trapped in conflict-affected areas," Cutts said of the recent festivities.

"Our biggest concern is for the safety of civilians ‐ including pregnant women, the elderly, small children and people with disabilities. We must ensure that these people are protected."

OCHA has been unable to verify reports that civilians have been killed in the fighting.

In addition to the Rohingya crisis in the western part of mainly Buddhist Myanmar, the country's conflict-hit north has also played host to festivities involving other ethnic minorities, which rarely make headlines.
Burma's diversity is obviously its strength.

Iraq
Iraq’s Muthanna clears 20mn Sq m from landmines
Muthanna (IraqiNews.com) Iraq’s province of Muthanna has cleared 20 million square meters of land from landmines, the province’s demining official was quoted saying on Saturday.

Hazem Habban told al-Hayat newspaper that the demining directorate has managed to purge nearly 20 million square meters from landmines and unwent kaboom! ordnance, and reached to strategic oil sites between the province and Dhi Qar.

The petroleum site is managed by Russian Lukoil company, Habban clarified. The government resorted to the local demining directorate instead of specialized firms, thus saving more than USD20 million, as he put it.

According to Habban, Muthanna is Iraq’s second in terms of the extent of contamination with explosive ordnance, coming after Basra and followed by Maysan and Dhi Qar.

Last February, the Iraqi parliament’s economy and investment committee ordered to halt contracting specialized demining firms over corruption suspicions, having found that contracts had been signed for already clean territories.

The United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
said in February it had cleared more than 45.000 explosive ordnance from all over Iraq, and that the continuation of purging efforts could need at least a decade.

Gaza is about to explode, warns UN official
He mispronounced implode. Exploding requires expansion, which neither Israel nor Egypt will permit.
[DAWN] "Gazoo is about to explode," a senior United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
official warned on Thursday amid a spike in festivities on the border with Israel over the past week.
Maybe Israel should just give it back to the Paleostinians as a gesture of good faith... Oh wait. Never mind.
"Old wounds continue to bleed and deepen as we speak, risking an outbreak of another war," Nikolay Mladenov, the UN’s Special Coordinator for the Middle East, told the Security Council during an open debate on the crisis.

While his briefing covered the situations in Syria, Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and Leb, it was largely focused on the unfolding crisis along the Gazoo fence, which is at the tiny enclave’s border with Israel.

Since March 30, 35 Paleostinians have been killed and large numbers injured by Israeli security forces. No Israeli casualties have been reported, the UN official added.

He urged Israel to reduce the use of live fire and called on Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,, which governs the enclave, and the leaders of the demonstrations to keep protesters away from the Gazoo fence.

The combination of the security, development and humanitarian deterioration, coupled with the political impasse, makes Gazoo "a powder keg," Mr Mladenov said, calling for action to prevent another war in the enclave. Gazoo Strip was shaken by seven weeks of festivities in the summer of 2014 between Israeli forces and Paleostinians.

The Intercept reported on April 01 that former Libyan Guantanamo detainees, who were released in 2016 and sent to Senegal as part of the deal made by the US State Department, were facing deportation to Libya.

According to The Intercept, Abu Bakr and his lover companion were afraid for their lives in Libya, where there is lack of security and chaos.

"If the US government told me two years ago that I would remain in Senegal temporarily, only to be sent to Libya after two years, regardless of the situation in Libya, I would have refused resettlement in Senegal. I would have even chosen to remain at Guantánamo over torture and death in a dungeon in Libya." Abu Bakr told The Intercept.

Arabia
Leaked Messages Confirm Qatar Paid Billions for Extremist Shi’ite Militias
[AAWSAT] Leaked text documents and messages confirmed that Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
paid over a billion dollars to Lion of Islam Shi’ite militias in Syria and Iraq, said a Washington Post report on Saturday.

"The Syrians, ’Hezbollah’-Leb, the Iraqi Hezbollah-- all want money, and this is their chance," Zayed bin Saeed al-Khayareen, Qatar's ambassador to Iraq and chief negotiator in the hostage affair, wrote in a message. "All of them are thieves."

The message was sent last year in wake of the abduction of 25 Qatari citizens by Iraqi kidnappers. Qatar had kicked off secret talks to ensure their release. The bargaining however turned into a kind of group shakedown, the official said, with a half-dozen militias and foreign governments jostling to squeeze cash from Doha.

Confidential documents confirmed that Qatar indeed paid these Lion of Islam Iran-backed groups, including the Lebanese "Hezbollah" and Iraqi Hezbollah.

After much fretting and grousing, Qatari officials consented to payments totaling at least $275 million to free nine members of the royal family and 16 other Qatari nationals kidnapped during a hunting trip in southern Iraq, according to copies of the intercepted communications obtained by The Washington Post.

The secret records reveal for the first time that the payment plan allocated an additional $150 million in cash for individuals and groups acting as intermediaries, although they have long been regarded by US officials as sponsors of international terrorism. These include Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Iraqi Hezbollah, a group linked to numerous lethal attacks on American troops during the Iraq War, the records show.

The payments were part of a larger deal that would involve the Iranian, Iraqi and Ottoman Turkish governments, as well as Leb's "Hezbollah" and at least two Syrian opposition groups, including the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front, reported the Post.

The total sum demanded for the return of the hostages at times climbed as high as $1 billion, although it is not clear from the documents exactly how much money ultimately changed hands.

Qatar, which acknowledged receiving help from multiple countries in securing the hostages' release last year, has consistently denied reports that it paid terrorist organizations as part of the deal.

The leaked documents show senior Qatari diplomats appearing to sign off on a series of side payments ranging from $5 to $50 million to Iranian and Iraqi officials and paramilitary leaders, with $25 million earmarked for an Iraqi Hezbollah boss and $50 million set aside for "Qassem," an apparent reference to Qassem Soleimani
, the leader of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and a key participant in the hostage deal.

Showdown at Kakrail mosque
[Dhaka Tribune] Another round of conflict took place at Kakrail mosque on Saturday between the supporters of Indian Tabligh Jamaat
...the missionary arm of the Deobandi (Salafist) movement in the Indian subcontinent, “The Outreach Society” is estimated by various parties to have between 12million and 150million members worldwide, and to be a solid contributor of men and money to the various jihadi organizations that we follow here at Rantburg...
leader Maulana Muhammad Saad Al Kandhalvi and their opponents.

As the situation escalated, police had to be deployed and the fighting parties were evicted from the mosque by the law enforcement, HM Azimul Haque, additional commissioner of police (Ramna Zone), said.

He said the police will take steps to mediate the matter by making both parties sit down for a peaceful dialogue.

According to Zunayed Siddique, who is aligned with the Tabligh Jamaat, their opposition apparently occupied the mosque with the assistance of Qawmi madrasah students.

There have been reports of attacks on Kandhalvi’s supporters, reports UNB.

Saad Kandhalvi is one of the major leaders of Tabligh Jamaat, which is the largest organization of Sunni Muslims in the subcontinent. Last year, Saad made several remarks which angered his peers, particularly among the Bangladesh chapter, which led to thousands protesting against his attendance in the Bishwa Ijtema this year.

Hefazat-e-Islam is one of Kandhalvi’s biggest opposition in Bangladesh over his comments about the Sunnah and the Quran and his declaration of the being the sole head of the Tabligh Jamaat body.

During the previous altercation, the home minister had to personally intervene to resolve the situation before it escalated further.

Taliban seize Afghan district centre, attack army base
[AlAhram] Taliban
...Arabic for students...
fighters seized a district centre in northern Afghanistan on Saturday, while a bomb at an army base in the southern province of Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
killed at least five people.

The latest violence came as bandidos murderous Moslems pushed ahead with a spring offensive.

Fighters captured the governor's house and police headquarters in Aq Tapa, in the Qala-e Zal district of Kunduz province and Afghan government forces were fighting to drive them out, said Sayed Assadullah Sadat, a provincial council member.

The Taliban's main front man Zabihullah Mujahid said fighters had captured a police headquarters, 10 security check posts and a market in Qala-e Zal, north of Kunduz city.

At the other end of the country, in Helmand, bandidos murderous Moslems launched a vehicle kaboom on a military base in Nad Ali district, killing four civilians and a soldier, according to a statement from the provincial governor's office.

The Taliban announced the official start of their annual spring offensive this week, continuing the heavy fighting seen across Afghanistan recently as warmer weather has set in.

Last year, the United States announced a more aggressive strategy with stepped up air strikes and more assistance to Afghan government forces fighting the insurgency, drawing a defiant response from the Taliban, who said they would target American forces in the spring campaign.

The fighting may threaten preparations for parliamentary and district council elections planned in October.

In the eastern province of Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
, a rocket fired by Taliban fighters hit a house in the Hoodi area of Goshta district on Friday night. Five non-combatants were killed and three were maimed.

Attaullah Khogyani, the provincial front man for Nangarhar, said three women were among those killed and two women and a child were maimed in the attack. Assessments of the size of Taliban territorial control vary but the Pentagon estimates that 56 percent of the country is under government control, while a BBC survey this year estimated the bandidos murderous Moslems were active in 70 percent of Afghanistan.

Horn of the Hunter
Robert C. Ruark
Safari Press, reprint, 1996

In 1952 Mr. Ruark, along with his wife Virginia, decided to go on safari in what was then called British East Africa. I understand this book and Mr. Ruark are big in certain circles; but I had no idea what I was getting into. This passage describing his journey to Africa assured me I would like the ride.

Page 21-22:

"Seize bagages, monsieur?" he said. "Pour deux personnes seulement? Mon Dieu, seize bagages pour duex personnes, c'est affreux."

"But," I said in my cat's-in-the-garden-of-my-aunt French, "we go to hunt the lion in the Afrique. These bagages of which you speak are not so much baggage as guns and cameras and little teensy-weensy-type pacquetages, including contraband cigarettes to fool the British customs into believing they are household effects."

"Ah, bon, bon" he said. "A bas les Anglais. You say you go to shoot in the Afrique, hein? I myself once was in Afrique during a war and found fine sport there. Life was very sportif. We shot and we shot, and it was very sportif."

"What were you shooting to make for yourself such a great sportiveness?" I asked.

"Les Italiens," he said simply, and flapped my seize bagaes checks on the counter.

I have had a build up of interest for both the personal narrative and for the language of days past. This book satisfied both of those cravings.

At the time, Mr. Ruark was a professional writer. Earlier in his life, he put his time in the Merchant Marines during World War II. As he describes one event during his tenure:

Page 24-25

I streaked out of the shower room, naked, soaking wet, scooped up a pistol and a helmet, and clambered topside to my gun station on the flying bridge. A ship in the convoy's center had copped it and was drifting back, sinking, smoking, dying. I looked around me. The AA guns were manned and ready. So were the bigger guns on the forecastle head and on the poop. So was I, too, I suppose. I had on a helmet and a pistol and a three-weeks' beard. I screwed the battle phones to my helmet and checked in with fat old Donaldson aft on the five-inch fifty, and with Doughman forward on the three-inch fifty, and around me were Red and Plinsky and the Staley twins from San Francisco, all making technical noises like experienced warriors.

And then I looked at me, naked as a jaybird, goose-pimpled out, wearing only a helmet and a pistol and a battle phone to cover my shame. And I thought that in the last few days I had lost a couple of friends and every day we burnt off the machine guns with a blowtorch to kill the ice and that stuff in my whiskers was solid frost and under my fanny were seven thousand tons of high explosives and that only yesterday I was the meek morning editor of the Washington Daily News. A German submarine surfaced in the middle of the convoy and a half-dozen ships blew him out of the water, making a god-awful noise about it. Depth charges plunked and thrummed and jostled against the bottom of my ancient bucket. It was cold up there with no clothes on.

I hesitate to share much of the hunt itself as that is the point of the book. I hope I have shown a bit of the wit and style, and the honesty, Mr. Ruark shares. This book is good adventure, Mr. Ruark's accounts of his hunting mates made them very familiar, and I dreaded the hunt's conclusion. A taste:

Page 293

The damned buffaloes had run the length of the marsh and had turned in formation and charged again, this time straight into our scent. They were standing like a Roman battalion, feet firmly rooted, heads proudly high, and noses sniffing, no more than twenty yards in front of Selby. I came up behind him on the run.

The bwana, the memsaab, Harry, Annie Lorry, and all the rest felt very familiar, the language rang true and refreshing, and the experience felt real, which, as Mr. Ruark remarks, is the whole point.

This Week in Emergency Preparedness
Tornado season. Although there have been relatively few severe storms so far, 'certain models', and I scare quote that as they tend to be on the side of hysteria, are predicting a concerning system developing. There is usually some truth hidden in the hype. Simple, non-headline grabbing severe storms can make a mess out of traveling, knock out power, and break windows. A cache of food which doesn't need to be cooked, water, and sturdy clothes to last you and yours 48 hours at least can go a long way. We did a walkie-talkie test a couple weeks ago and found some no longer hold a charge; time to replace. Figure cell phones and land lines will be out; being able to take a walkabout and still be in contact with the family is not only comforting, it could be essential and save a lot of jogging about. Have the frequencies already figured, and if you have good neighbors or whatnots get on the same page. Solar powered chargers and battery sticks are a good idea. Wound dressings are important, as you may be low on the trauma rating but needing attention. Most important, be aware.

Looks at Movies
Dunkirk
I had a chance to watch this a few weeks back. There was a lot of hype leading up to the movie, which led to a lot of disappointment after the release. Leading the complaints I heard, and later read about, was the lack of scale and a choppy timeline.

Addressing the latter first, the timeline is no more choppy than a Tarantino or Richie movie. I thought some threads tied together rather well.

As for the scale, yeah, that isn't shown. Or necessary. The movie is about personal struggles and situations, not a recreation of Saving Private Ryan's beach landing and is not a Big Budget Blockbuster of the same name. It is a suspense movie and does not need that much tinsel. If I had a complaint, I thought the score was a bit much at times, but not into the realm of distraction. I thought it was worth the watch, though I can understand how someone who just blew a car payment at the theatre waiting for the next The Longest Day might be upset.

Libya warlord Haftar back in Benghazi after murky health-care leave
[Libya Observer] The commander of the self-styled army in eastern Libya, Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
, has arrived in Benina airport in Benghazi this evening after about 20 days of treatment in Gay Paree.

Haftar's arrival was celebrated by members of House of Representatives, his Dignity Operation military formations, elders and others from the eastern region: mainly those from tribes loyal to his self-styled army.

"We are going to continue to do our best to win the battle for Libya. Now our army has been ranked 9th on the African countries' list. We all should be proud." Haftar told his loyalist in a ceremonial hall in Benina airport.

He added that it's time for the military to carry out the mission, telling his loyalists to keep away from elections as they could be "a scheme."

"Elections might be right, but they might be a scheme too, so we need the army to call the shots." He added.

Over the last twenty days, media reports brought in hundreds of news stories of conflicting news about Haftar's health ranging from he had a stroke to he had an irreversible brain damage, with little details given by his aides to squash allegations.

Zintan delegation visits Misrata for reconciliation talks
[Libya Observer] A delegation from the municipal council, military council and high council of elders in Zintan city arrived Thursday in Misrata for reconciliation talks.

The delegation, which included more than 170 figures, held talks with the Misratan counterpart for establishing reconciliation to end the conflict between the two cities.

The two cities signed a reconciliation charter to show unity and reject separation of the country.

The charter called for perseveration of the constants of February 17 revolution, stressing the need for civilian power and reject military coups in Libya.

It also expressed support for an inclusive all-Libyan dialogue inside the country without any foreign interference.

"Misrata and Zintan meeting today is the first step in the path of inclusive reconciliation." Chief of Misrata Military Council Ibrahim Bin Rajab said after the meeting.

In March, a Misrata delegation paid a visit to Zinatn and held talks aimed to reach agreement on settling down the conflict between the two cities and turning a new leaf for the benefit of the country.

As water crisis bites, Venezuela governor outraged over empty pool
[SpaceDaily] The chronic water shortage in Venezuela which has left millions struggling to cope sparked fresh headlines this week after a state governor expressed outrage that his swimming pool was empty.

In a video posted on his Twitter account, Rafael Lacava, governor of the northern Carabobo state, can be seen standing next to his empty pool issuing furious threats towards Venezuela's main water company and giving them 24 hours to fix the problem.

"Here is the pool, in the governor's house and there is no water. THERE IS NO WATER!" shouts the 49-year-old who is known for his eccentricity which has seen him pushing a plan to keep the streets free of criminals with his customized "Draculamobile."

"If by tomorrow evening, I don't see any improvement.. the Draculamobile is coming for you," he says menacingly, pointing at the camera.

"I'm warning you!"

"I know you're working but we want to see results because at the end of the day, it's me who has to suffer all the people's insults for something that is your fault."

Water rationing is a regular occurrence across this crisis-hit country which has huge water resources but a national infrastructure in very bad condition, with the shortage affecting both hospitals and some of the capital's richest neighborhoods.
