#2  Gowdy is not happy - Moreover, the treatment afforded to former Secretary Clinton and other potential subjects and targets was starkly different from the FBI's investigation into Trump campaign officials. Voluntariness and consent in the former were replaced with search warrants, subpoenas, and other compulsory processes in the latter. Many of the investigators and supervisors were the same in both investigations but the investigatory tactics were not.

RE: The (former President) Clinton/Lynch tarmac meeting - The Deputy Chief of Staff told the OIG that they did not attempt to get information from the head of Lynch’s security detail about the conversation that took place on the plane.

And apparently, the OIG didn't think it worthwhile to ask, either. Some investigation! They did discover that no one thought the visit was a good idea, except the President (Clinton).

But no one thought to be a confirming ear in the room - to give credence to the story?

#5  It is interesting to see the reactions to the report in the news. Basically, the same divisions between Dem and Pub are reflected. If you are a Dem, the report states there was little wrong-doing and no political bias. If you are a Pub, the report was somewhat spineless and a whitewash of wrongdoing. One guy on YouTube, a former soldier and LEO, said basically that O and minions and Hillary took a $hit on the Constitution, tore out the pages and wiped their arses with them.

Alas, maybe some day justice will be done.

Canadians boycott US products, cancel vacations to America
[NY Post] Canadians have taken to practicing pocketbook diplomacy in defense of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is caught in a trade war of words with President Trump, by boycotting American goods and canceling vacations to the United States, according to a report.

Shoppers are shunning Kentucky bourbon, California wine and Florida oranges, and avoiding American companies like Starbucks, Walmart and McDonald’s, Canadian network CTV News reported on Wednesday.

On Twitter, hashtags like #BuyCanadian, #BoycottUSProducts and #BoycottUSA are spreading as outrage over Trump’s trade tariffs grows.

An Ottawa man posted a "Trump-free grocery cart" full of products from Canada or from "countries with strong leadership."

Vacationers said they would be staying up north this summer instead of booking trips to the US.

"F‐k you Trump. We just booked a $3,000 vacation to beautiful British Columbia. Happy anniversary to us. #Canadastrong #BuyCanadian #F***Tariffs," tweeted Supreme Leader Lyna.

Mercer: A Global 'Right Of Return' To The U.S.? Who Knew?
[Townhall] No good deed goes unpunished. Jeff Sessions wants to restore to America the "sound principles of asylum" and long-standing tenets of immigration law, abandoned by American leaders over the decades.

That makes the attorney general a Hitler, to use liberal argumentation. Condemned for all eternity.

As the left sees it, if America isn’t going to police the world; it must at least provide shelter to all people from unpoliced parts of the world.

That’s the left’s reason du jour for opposing the restoration of American immigration sovereignty.

And now, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is piling on.

By narrowing promiscuously broad asylum criteria‐the system is being gamed, attests Andrew Arthur, a former immigration judge‐Sessions stands accused of flouting the "right to life" of the women of the world.

No matter that America has its own share of abused women "persecuted by their husbands and ignored by their own governments." The last, parenthetic remarks were uttered by immigration lawyers, who mask greed with prattle about values.

This legal club is looking out exclusively for the women of the world, not the women of America. To them, we are the world.

#2  I remember years ago when first confronted with the open borders mindset, I thought based on that rationale it was a perfect set up for a lawyer. He would simply launch a class action against the USA, of course, on behalf of all the people who had remained in their native land. Obviously they were intimidated, depressed, and perhaps too psychologically enervated to make the trip and we were denying them benefits.

It would be better than a government job for a socialist, lifelong gravy train of circular word games in court with the added ability to pass the hat to fellow travelers. Seems like my once ironic idea is actually coming around.

#4  Fine, we can police the world. You definitely won't like it, but we can do it. Oh look, you chanted "Death to America" *FOOOM* OOps, you no longer exist. Who would like us to police them next? Oh? You demand we treat your invading citizens with 'dignity'? *FOOM* Now we'll deport them back to their radioactive waste of a homeland. Or if you prefer, use them to stock the organ banks.

I'm done with America being the world's punching bag. Time to pay the piper or get turned into smoking wasteland. We don't even need nukes. Conventional interdiction strikes on every power plant, water treatment plant, hospital, bridge, major road intersection and dam will ensure that you spent the next 10-30 years attempting to get out of the stone age. And we'll use your navy for target practice.

German authorities thwarted an Islamist BIOLOGICAL weapon attack!
[Right Scoop] A 29-year-old Muslim from Tunisia is being charged with planning to launch a biological weapon attack after being caught with ricin. According to the report, he’d successfully made the toxin after ordering caster beans online:
German prosecutors said Thursday they’ve thwarted an Islamic extremist plot to launch an attack with the deadly toxin ricin.

They said a 29-year-old Tunisian, identified only as Sief Allah H., who was arrested Wednesday, started procuring material online including seeds needed for the creation of ricin in mid-May.

The suspect succeeded in creating the toxin this month and investigators found it in a search of his Cologne apartment, federal prosecutors in Karlsruhe said in a written statement.

"He procured 1,000 castor bean seeds online as well as an electronic coffee grinder," they said. The shell of the castor bean plant seed is highly poisonous and can be used to create ricin.

The authorities are still investigating exactly how the suspect planned to use the toxin, but said he was working on a "biological weapon" attack in Germany.

Prosecutors said they currently have no evidence of a connection with any extremist organization.

Except that it’s also being reported that he used ISIS instructions on how to make the deadly poison. It’s also being reported that it was American intelligence who tipped off the Germans.

Bild Magazine says he had stored large quantities of the poison in his apartment. He also had a wife and four children. The wife, who is German, had converted to Islam.

The report doesn’t even give his last name, which makes me wonder if the German authorities don’t want the people to know how this Tunisian came into the country.

Hillary's Intent: What James Comey Missed
[American Thinker] James Mr. Magoo Comey, Director of the Federal Bureau of Magoo, while acknowledging that Hillary had put the country’s secrets on her home server ‐ i.e., without their protective coding ‐ could find no "intent" in her doing so. It just happened. Let’s unpack that.

Bill and Hillary Adjusted Gross Income.

2009/2010 - $13.1 million

2011 - $14.7 million

2012 - $19.7 million

2013 - $27.1 million

Hillary’s total "intent" as Secretary of State - $84.6 million

While these numbers are not out of line with the Clintons’ AGI in the surrounding years, the question still arises...What was this money being paid for? It can’t all be for speeches by Bill on diarrhea in Africa (as characterized by the inimitable Mark Steyn).

She's a Brilliant Chess Grandmaster, and She Stood Up to Iranian Head Scarf Bullies. [VIDEO]
[Victory Girls] One of the most plucky women from this easily-triggered, #MeToo generation is a 29-year-old from India you’ve never heard of. However, you should know how she stood up for her rights in the face of Islamic oppression.

Her name is Soumya Swaminathan, and not only is she courageous, she’s also brilliant. That’s because Soumya is a woman Grandmaster Chess champion, as well as a former World Junior Girls’ champion.

So what makes her brave? It’s because she refused to bow to the Muslim overlords in Iran.

Next month the Asian Team Chess Championship will be held in Hamadan, Iran, and Soumya was set to participate as a member of the Indian team. However, Iran also has that compulsory head scarf rule for women. And Soumya was not about to bow to their religious demands.

Obama had direct contact with Clinton on private email server: IG report (opens to video)
[FOX] President Obama was one of a select handful of individuals who had "direct contact" with Hillary Clinton on her private email account, Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz indicated in his bombshell report Thursday on the Clinton email probe.

In a footnote, the DOJ watchdog notes that "FBI analysts and Prosecutor 2 told us that former President Barack Obama was one of the 13 individuals with whom Clinton had direct contact using her clintonemail.com account."

The IG report adds that Obama used a pseudonym for his username and that, after intelligence analysts questioned whether Obama's communications contained classified information, it was determined the emails sent and received were not classified.

She worked for Obama as his Secretary of State and never (or very seldom) used the approved, gov't and State Department system. How else could they have communicated ?

'Selfie death' as British woman plummets 30 metres from picturesque sea wall
[Telegraph] A British woman plunged to her death, along with her partner, while taking a selfie on a picturesque wall in Portugal, according to local authorities.

Perth man Michael Kearns, 33, Louise Benson, 37, his British partner, fell 30 metres off a beach wall and were found by shocked locals early on Tuesday morning.

His mother confirmed to local media that she had been notified of his death in the early hours of the morning in Perth.

She said the couple had left Australia in January on a holiday and had attended a friend’s wedding in Portugal in recent weeks.

A mobile phone was found on the top of the wall overlooking the beach in the seaside town of Ericeira, where the bodies of the couple were found on Tuesday morning.

Rui Pereira da Terra, the captain of the maritime authority in Cascais, said the two victims appeared to have lost their balance while taking a photograph overlooking Fishermen’s Beach.

US claim drone strike kills Mullah Fazlullah
(CNN) A US drone strike in Afghanistan's northeastern Kunar province has killed the leader of the Pakistan Taliban (TTP), according to a Afghan government official.

Ministry of Defense spokesman Mohammad Radmanish confirmed to CNN that Mullah Fazlullah, who led the terror group from 2013, was killed in the strike Wednesday.

US forces had conducted the strike close to the border of Pakistan, targeting the "Emir" of the group, according US Forces-Afghanistan spokesman Lt. Col. Martin O'Donnell.
Fazlullah had been a major figure in the TTP even before he became emir in late 2013, and once led a Pakistan Taliban militia in the country's Swat Valley.

The administrative district, in northwestern Pakistan, was where militants shot and wounded teen activist Malala Yousafzai in October 2012 as she was riding home from school in a van; the Pakistan Taliban claimed responsibility.

A statement from US Forces-Afghanistan claimed that the strike did not put an ongoing, unilateral ceasefire initiated by the Afghan government at risk.

Berkeley declares 'climate emergency' worse than World War II, demands 'humane' population control
[FOX] The Berkeley City Council on Tuesday night declared what it called a "climate emergency" with more global significance than World War II, and demanded an immediate effort to "humanely stabilize population" and "reverse ecological overshoot."

The resolution, which invokes the global conflict between the Axis and Allies, charges that Americans bear an "extraordinary responsibility to solve the crises" facing the environment.

"[D]uring World War II, the Bay Area came together across race, age, class, gender and other differences in an extraordinary regional mobilization, building and repairing Liberty ships, converting car assembly plants into tank manufacturing facilities," the resolution reads.

A similar effort is necessary today to confront an even greater threat, according to the document.

"[W]e can rise to the challenge of the greatest crisis in history by organizing politically to catalyze a national and global climate emergency effort, employing local workers in a mobilization effort building and installing renewable energy infrastructure," the resolution says.

Brain-Eating Amoeba Found In Louisiana Water System (video)
HOUMA, LA (CBS Local) ‐ A potentially deadly brain-eating amoeba has been found again in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. Independent testing returned positive results for Naegleria fowleri, which causes fatal brain swelling and tissue destruction, in the community of Pointe-aux-Chenes, according to WWL-TV, as well as The Courier.

A brain-eating amoeba has been detected in the Louisiana water system. It is the third time since 2015 that the potentially deadly organism has been found in the state
The amoeba can cause brain swelling and seizures according to the CDC. The Terrebonne Consolidated Waterworks District issued the notification Sunday and has temporarily switched to a different disinfectant to kill the organism.

Despite the Louisiana heat, residents are ignoring their swimming pools and nearby bayous. They’re terrified of something they can’t see but that officials warn is present.

"It kinda freaks me out because this is my home, I can’t do what I usually do," said Lindsey Dupre, WWL-TV reports. "I want to know I’m secure rather than freak out over an amoeba."

This marks the third time the amoeba has been detected in the water since 2015. Last June, Terrebonne Parish’s water system tested positive for the amoeba in Isle de Jean Charles, where it had also been found three years ago. It impacts all fresh water sources ranging from drinking water to pool water to water used for showers.

"Normally we see this amoeba in surface water when people go swimming and they get it way up in their sinuses and they’ll get an infection," said Jimmy Guidry, Louisiana Department of Health’s medical director. "They’ll start getting symptoms that are similar to meningitis."

Donald Trump Approves Tariffs on About $50 Billion of Chinese Goods
[WSJ] President Donald Trump approved tariffs on about $50 billion of Chinese goods, people familiar with the decision said, as the U.S. ratchets up its trade fight with Beijing over China’s alleged pressure on U.S. firms to transfer technology to Chinese partners.

The approval followed a 90-minute meeting on Thursday of senior White House officials, national-security officials and senior representatives of the Treasury, Commerce Department, U.S. Trade Representative’s Office.

It wasn’t clear when the tariffs would go into effect. Beijing has said that it intends to assess tariffs on a corresponding amount of U.S. goods.

USTR expects to announce the goods subject to tariffs on Friday and publish them in the Federal Register next week, the people familiar with the matter said. The affected imports would face 25% tariffs; the products are expected to be similar to those on a preliminary list that USTR released in early April.

The office has held public hearings on the list of 1,300 categories of products to see whether duties on any of the goods it selected would unduly harm U.S. consumers and businesses. USTR is expected to cut some of the products from the list and add others, especially high-tech items, the people familiar with the matter said.

The U.S. decision could become the start of a tit-for-tat series of retaliatory moves. If the U.S. hits China with tariffs, China will immediately retaliate with tariffs, said a Chinese official. "We hate unilateral actions," the official said.

Beijing has already said it had prepared its own $50 billion list of U.S. goods that it would subject to tariffs, especially aircraft and soybeans.

After Beijing made that threat, President Trump upped the ante and said the U.S. would add another $100 billion of goods to the U.S.’s tariff list. The U.S. hasn’t followed up on that threat by enumerating what goods would be included in that batch.

On Thursday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China and the U.S. faced a choice between cooperation and mutual benefit on the one side and confrontation and mutual loss on the other.

"China chooses the first," Mr. Wang told a joint news conference, after talks with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Beijing.

"We hope the U.S. side can also make the same wise choice," Mr. Wang said. "Of course, we have also made preparations to respond to the second kind of choice."

As word filtered through Washington that Mr. Trump was about to make a decision on tariffs, some trade hawks offered qualified support for the president. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D., Conn.), a longtime opponent of free-trade deals, said "tariffs must be seen as one tool among many our country can use to hold bad actors like China accountable and to bring the Chinese government to the table to secure a more favorable balance of trade."

But Ms. DeLauro added that Mr. Trump must come up with a "comprehensive strategy" for dealing with Beijing.

The conservative Tax Foundation calculated that the tariffs on Chinese imports, coming on top of U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum exports, would lower "long-run" gross domestic product and wages by 0.06%, reduce employment by 45,293 positions and make U.S. taxes less progressive.

Projection: Comey Accuses Trump of Attacking the FBI With Lies that Damage the Country
[PJ] Former FBI Director James Comey defended his FBI's police-state actions against the Trump campaign this morning, after President Trump leveled fresh attacks against the "criminal deep state" in a series of tweets, accusing it of perpetrating a "major SPY scandal the likes of which this country may never have seen before!"

This was all too much for the haughty Comey, who felt the need to excuse the bureau's outrageous political espionage by using a nice-sounding euphemism for "spy."

"Facts matter," the former G-man wrote sanctimoniously. "The FBI’s use of Confidential Human Sources (the actual term) is tightly regulated and essential to protecting the country. Attacks on the FBI and lying about its work will do lasting damage to our country. How will Republicans explain this to their grandchildren?"

"To me, it’s the work that matters. I look at things like that," Wray continued. "I look at what people think when they know us and I look at what people think when they express their views through their actions."

Wray heavily emphasized the brand world-wide, saying that "our brand is just fine there," even while the president has gone after the FBI’s reputation at home.

Taliban Claim U.S. Violated Their Free Speech with Airstrikes on 'Voice of Shariah' Station
[PJ] The Taliban complained that the U.S. violated their free speech rights by launching airstrikes against one of their propaganda outlets.

Ghazni provincial police said six Taliban militants were killed in the Sunday night airstrikes delivered by the Afghan security forces.

The target was Radio Shariat, a station that had been airing Taliban programming and recruitment messages for about four months.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid blamed the U.S. in a statement of taking out the "Voice of Shariah."

"With this action the claimants of Democracy and Freedom of Speech exposed their true nature and showed that they have absolutely no respect for the views, voice and media of their opposition. They only use the slogans of 'Freedom of Speech' to force their own views, culture and colonial agendas on foreign nations," he said in a statement.

FBI vows to train employees to avoid bias after devastating report
[Wash Times] The FBI will make its employees undergo bias training, Director Christopher A. Wray promised Thursday, after a devastating report found the bureau made bad decisions, has a culture of leaking sensitive information, and may have skewed campaign-season decisions because of bias.
But according the Inspector General and FBI Director "There was no bias related to the Clinton and Trump investigations."
New text messages released by the Justice Department inspector general showing conversations between Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok and paramour FBI lawyer Lisa Page suggest a deep anti-Trump sentiment.

In one exchange, Ms. Page wanted reassurance that then-candidate Donald Trump couldn’t win the election. Mr. Strzok replied: "No. No he’s not. We’ll stop it."

The inspector general also said the FBI was rife with people leaking to the press, or holding other cozy relationships that should worry the bureau. Some employees accepted sports tickets, went on golf outings, or had their dinners paid for by reporters.

Chris Matthews: Republicans Who Support Trump Are Acting 'Like North Koreans'
[Townhall] MSNBC host Chris Matthews likened Republican support for President Trump to North Koreans who are essentially forced to worship dictator Kim Jong Un.

Political commentator George Will was discussing Republican support for the president, which he said is higher than President Ronald Reagan's support among the GOP at the same point in his presidency.

"Today about 85 percent of Republicans have very strong approval of Donald Trump. That's above the 75 percent that had the same feeling for Ronald Reagan at this point in his presidency," Will said. "This is a Trump party now."

"Therefore say no evil about the president," Matthews said. "They're beginning to act like North Koreans dare I say. Because they’re marching in step. They’re smiling when told to, they're applauding when told to. They’re not wearing those big hats, but short of that they’re acting like North Koreans, Republicans."

As a reminder, North Koreans not only worship current dictator Kim Jong Un but have worshipped the entire Kim family for decades. Failure to show adequate respect for the dictatorship can result in punishment. The State Department has explained to visitors in the past that it's "a criminal act in North Korea to show disrespect to the country's current and former leaders, Kim Jong-Il and Kim Il-Sung." Portraits of the country's leaders are also ubiquitous, with homes required to display them prominently. And the list goes on.

So, sure, Chris, GOP support of Trump is just like that.

Gowdy Blasts FBI: I am Alarmed I tell you, Angered, and Extremely Disappointed
[Townhall] House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy released a scathing statement Thursday afternoon ahead of Inspector General Michael Horowitz's report about FBI misconduct during the 2016 presidential election.

Here is the statement in full, which details finding in the report (bolding is mine):

I am alarmed, angered, and deeply disappointed by the Inspector General’s finding of numerous failures by DOJ and FBI in investigating potential Espionage Act violations by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

This report confirms investigative decisions made by the FBI during the pendency of this investigation were unprecedented and deviated from traditional investigative procedures in favor of a much more permissive and voluntary approach. This is not the way normal investigations are run.

The investigation was mishandled. The investigatory conclusions were reached before the end of the witness interviews. The July 5th press conference marked a serious violation of policy and process. And the letters to Congress in the fall of 2016 were both delayed in substance and unnecessary in form.

Egyptian court issues preliminary death sentence for 11 Brotherhood members over 2015 killing of 3 policemen
It gives everyone something to do while the accused wile away the years in Egypt's prisons.
[AlAhram] An Egyptian criminal court referred the preliminary death sentences of 11 members of the terrorist-designated Moslem Brüderbund organization to the country's Grand Mufti for his non-binding opinion.

The Sharqiya terrorism district court convicted the defendants of taking part in the killing of three coppers in Sharqiya governorate in 2015.

The referral is a necessary step before the death sentences against the convicted can be finalized, per Egypt's penal code.

The court set 12 July to issue its verdict.

Once the court issues the verdict in the case, the defendants have the right to appeal.

Since the ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in July 2013, hundreds of Brotherhood members have been incarcerated

He said several people bit the dust during the attacks in a number of provinces, including capital Kabul, and urged the parties involved in the conflict to respect the ceasefire declaration.

The Taliban group announced earlier on Saturday that the leadership of the group has decided to declared ceasefire during the three days of Eid-ul-Fitr during which no attack will be carried out on Afghan forces.

The announcement by the Taliban group apparently followed the declaration of the ceasefire by the Afghan government.

Earlier on Thursday last week, President Ghani announced a ceasefire with the Taliban group and said the Afghan forces will not conduct offensive operations against the group from 27th of the holy month of Ramadan until the 5th day of Eid.

Nigeria to Receive Another U.S.$500 Million Abacha Loot
[All Africa] The Federal Executive Council (FEC) rose from its weekly meeting in the State House Abuja Wednesday with cheery news of the forthcoming repatriation of $500 million loot from United Kingdom, United States and France to Nigeria.

The money was part of the huge sums stolen by the former despotic leader, Gen. Sani Abacha.
I think we've all received multiple emails on the matter...
Making the disclosure while briefing journalists at the end of the meeting, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Malam Abubakar Malami, said the move was the fallout of negotiations between the federal government and the three countries.

According to him, the expected sum is coming barely a few months after the repatriation of $322 million Abacha loot to Nigeria from Switzerland following an agreement signed by Nigeria and Switzerland.

Malami, who said the processes leading to the repatriation and the aftermath were reported to the council Wednesday, also disclosed that the council approved the payment of N500 million as legal fee to lawyers engaged in the litigation between the federal government and MTN over the N1 trillion fine imposed on the latter by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC).

"The council approved the payment of professional fees to lawyers engaged by the federal government relating to the MTN case instituted against the federal government in pursuance of penalty of over N1 trillion imposed by the government on MTN.

"MTN, as you will recall, instituted a case seeking to retrain the federal government from recovering the over N1 trillion imposed on it. The federal government engaged the services of lawyers to put up defence on its behalf. As a result, the case was eventually settled by the parties amicably and arising from that settlement the lawyers were entitled to their fees.

"The federal government has now sanctioned the payment of N500 million for the N330 billion agreed upon for the alleged certain breaches in their operations. This amount is less than one per cent of the fee instead of the internationally recognised fee which is pegged at five per cent.

"Finally was a report on the global forum on assets recovery. You will recall that in December 2017, the federal government participated in global forum on asset recovery in Washington DC and during that forum, Nigeria and Switzerland signed agreement that paved the way for the repatriation of $322 million relating to looted assets and on the account of that the amount was eventually repatriated back to Nigeria.

Musharraf a no-show at Supreme Court, lawyer asks for more time
[DAWN] The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday withdrew its directive allowing former dictator Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
to file nomination papers after he failed to appear for a court hearing today.

Last week, the SC had issued a directive permitting Musharraf to file nomination papers for the July 25 general elections on the condition that he appear in person before the court on June 13 in Lahore to attend a hearing.

The court had said that the former army chief's nomination papers will be received by the returning officer, but would only be considered if Musharraf appeared in person at the SC Lahore registry.

Musharraf had then filed his nomination papers from NA-1 Chitral after the court's directive, but failed to appear in court yesterday.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar then gave the former president until 2pm today to appear in person or face action according to the law.

Musharraf's lawyer Qamar Afzal today pleaded that the former president plans on returning but needs more time to appear before the court owing to the "current situation [in the country]" and Eidul Fitr holidays.

Adjourning the case for an unspecified period of time, the court took back its directive allowing Musharraf to file nomination papers and asked his lawyer to let the court know when he wants the case to be heard next.

Alleged target killer of Sikh leader Charanjit Singh arrested: CTD
[DAWN] The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday said it had tossed in the slammer
You have the right to remain silent...
the alleged murderer of prominent Sikh social activist Charanjit Singh in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
The development came a day after the caretaker chief minister, retired Justice Dost Mohammad Khan, ordered an investigation into the killing of the Sikh leader along 'scientific' lines.

The CTD said that the alleged button man, Sheheryar, was caught by a special team of the department tasked with the investigation of the case.

It said that the accused has also named some accomplices during the investigation, for whose arrest a separate team has been formed.

Singh was on his way home from his shop when faceless myrmidons shot up him on May 29, killing him on the spot.

Veteran journalist shot dead in India-held Kashmir
[DAWN] Unidentified button men rubbed out a veteran journalist and his police bodyguard on Thursday in Srinagar, the disputed region's main city, police and witnesses said.

Shujaat Bukhari, editor of an English language daily Rising Kashmire, had just entered his vehicle outside his office in the city's press enclave when assailants fired several shots from close range.

"He (Bukhari) is no more. One of his two police bodyguards also died in the attack," a top police officer told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
Another police guard and the driver of the vehicle were critically maimed in the attack.

Fellow journalists were on the scene soon afterwards. Bukhari was slumped over in the back seat, one of the police bodyguards had a gruesome wound to the head.

Bukhari was a protected journalist, guarded by two armed coppers round the clock, in a disputed area of India where political violence and threats to news hounds is commonplace.

Witnesses said Bukhari went titzup while the assailants fled immediately after the attack. No group has yet grabbed credit for the attack.

The attack comes a day before a unilateral halt in military operations as Moslem holy month of Ramazan comes to an end.

members were recovered from Euphrates River, west of Anbar, a security source from the province was quoted saying on Thursday.

Speaking to Almaalomah website, the source said, "security troops, along with residents of Qaim town, managed to recover more than thirty bodies of Islamic State members, who were executed and thrown in Euphrates River, following conflicts in Hegeen region in Syria, located 40 kilometers away from Qaim."

Troops and the residents, according to the source, "recovered the bodies fearing pollution of the river after bad odours came out of the bodies."

The bodies "were shot in the heads and chests," he added.

On Wednesday, Qutri al-Obeidi, a leader with the mobilization forces in Anbar, said Hegeen saw the biggest mass executions among Islamic State after the leaders killed around 90 members and threw their bodies in Euphrates river, as they were reluctant about the defense battles against Syrian army, which carries out operations to liberate regions near the borders.

Arabia
Yemen’s Navy says fully ready to destroy Saudi-led warships attacking Hudaydah
[PRESSTV] Yemen’s Navy and Coast Defense Command says it is "fully prepared" to destroy any invading warships belonging to the Saudi-led coalition with missiles, a day after the invading military force launched an offensive against the flashpoint Red Sea port city of Hudaydah.

In a statement carried by Yemen's Arabic-language al-Masirah television network on Thursday, the command further said that the country’s forces, including those of the Navy, would fulfill their national and religious duty to defend the illusory sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
against the enemy.

It further said that destroying an Emirati warship, employed by the Saudi-led coalition, with a pair of Yemeni missiles near Hudaydah a day earlier had been carried out in accordance with that duty, adding that the command’s forces could handle all kinds of challenges posed by the invading forces.

The command reiterated that there was no reason for civilian ships to be worried as long as they followed international maritime law, calling on them to sail twenty nautical miles away from the coalition’s warships as a guarantee for their safety.

Europe
Russia vows consequences after Norway invites more U.S. Marines
[Reuters] Russia vowed on Thursday to retaliate for a plan by Norway to more than double the number of U.S. Marines stationed there.
Ok. Just remember what the Germans nicknamed them.
Oslo announced on Tuesday that it would ask the United States, its NATO ally, to send 700 Marines to train in Norway from 2019, against 330 at present, and said the additional troops would be based closer to the Russian border.

"This makes Norway less predictable and could cause growing tensions, triggering an arms race and destabilizing the situation in northern Europe," the Russian Embassy said in a statement on its Facebook page.
The spokesman added, "Plus they will drink all the vodka and screw all the women."
"We see it as clearly unfriendly, and it will not remain free of consequence."

Oslo has grown increasingly concerned about Russia since Moscow annexed of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, while adding that it does not regard its much larger neighbor as a direct threat.

The U.S. Marines were scheduled to leave at the end of this year after an initial contingent arrived in January 2017 to train for winter conditions. They are the first foreign troops to be stationed in Norway since World War Two.

The initial decision to welcome the Marines had prompted Moscow to say it would worsen bilateral relations and escalate tensions on NATO's northern flank.

On Wednesday, Russia's Northern Fleet launched a large naval exercise in the Arctic Barents Sea. Later this year, Norway will host its biggest NATO maneuver in decades.

FBI arrests US woman for recruiting ISIS terrorists via social media
[ALMASDARNEWS] The FBI nabbed
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
a Wisconsin resident for providing support to the ISIS terror group by facilitating recruitment and helping plot terror attacks via Facebook, FOX6 News reported.

Waheba Issa Dais, born in Israel, was arrested on Wednesday in her home in Wisconsin’s Cudahy for "attempting to provide material support or resources to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. of Iraq and al-Sham [ISIS*], a designated foreign terrorist organization," FOX6 News reported, citing the US Department of Justice.

According to the media, the FBI was tipped off by Facebook officials who said that Dais posted instructions on how to make explosives on her social media and encouraged people to carry out terror attacks in the name of ISIS.

Later on Wednesday, the woman appeared before a federal magistrate judge and now faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Social media has turned into a platform for a range of bad boy and terrorist groups, including ISIS, which have been actively using Facebook, Twitter, and Telegram to attract new recruits.

Different approaches to countering extremism on the Internet have been used, including massive state surveillance and raids of social media against terrorist accounts that involved blocking thousands of accounts and pages.
USA Today has more about the 45 year old mother of two:
Dais, a native of Jerusalem, was allowed to come to the U.S. in 1992 without a passport because of her marriage to a U.S. citizen. The couple divorced in 2003, according to court records. She is now a lawful permanent resident who the FBI believes does not work outside the home.

FBI agents determined that Dais hacked numerous Facebook accounts from unwitting victims and changed the profile pictures, friends list and display names, the affidavit said.

The investigation appears to have started in January after Facebook security told the FBI that there was a "Wisconsin-based user posting detailed instructions on how to make explosive vest bombs in support of ISIS," the affidavit states. The person behind the Facebook posts, who the FBI said they determined was Dais, "also appeared to be engaged in detailed question and answer sessions discussing substances used to make bombs."

, thus inching closer to the group’s main stronghold along the Syria-Iraq borders.

The offensive, heavily backed by US Arclight airstrikes, has so far granted the Syrian Democratic Forces over control over 30 towns and villages with the main objective to seize ISIS’ bastion in south Hasakah; Dashishah .

According to SDF sources, some 700-800 ISIS Lions of Islam have been killed during the assault launched nearly 2 weeks ago, mostly of Tunisian and Afghan nationalities.

A Kurdish commander spoke of the tactics used by the terror group in the ongoing battles. "ISIS heavily relies on mines and IEDs to curb the SDF advance given the intensity and scale of our attack".

"Our forces now are only 3 km away from Dashishah after taking over 2 new towns yesterday", he added.

Bangladesh
War crimes witness found dead with throat slit in Khilgaon
[Dhaka Tribune] The body of Shumon Zahid, a witness in a 1971 war crimes case, has been recovered from near a railway track in Dhaka’s Khilgaon.

The 55-year-old was the only son of martyred journalist Selina Parvin.

Locals found Shumon's body with his throat slit near Bagicha Mosque level crossing around 8am on Thursday.

On receiving the information, police recovered the body from the spot about two hours later, which was first taken to the Government Railway Police (GRP) Station at Kamalapur, and then sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for his appointment with Doctor Quincy.

After an inquest, Kamalapur GRP OC Yasin Faruk said: "Shumon may have been run over by the Rangpur Express as he was crossing the railway lines."

Sub-Inspector Anwar Hossain also said that the victim’s throat might have been slit as he was run over. There were signs of injury on his right ear and forehead as well.

His family, however, said they believe Shumon, who worked at Farmers Bank Limited's Shantinagar branch up until four months ago, was murdered.

His brother-in-law Kazi Md Bakhtiar told news hounds that Shumon might have been murdered by those who had threatened to kill him earlier to stop him from testifying in the war crimes case against al-Badr leaders Chowdhury Mueen Uddin and Ashrafuzzaman Khan.

Mueen and Ashraf were tried in absentia and sentenced to death in November 2013 by the International Crimes Tribunal-2, for killing 18 intellectuals during the 1971 Liberation War.

Bakhtiar also said Shumon’s house at Shahjahanpur was about a 10-minute walk from the spot where his body was found. He lived there with his wife and two sons.

He said that police were aware of the death threats Shumon had received and maintained contact with him.

Shumon had also become careful about his day-to-day movements after testifying against the war criminals and receiving the threats. He generally rode a cycle of violence, but he did not take it out on Thursday.

Heavy clashes erupt at Libya oil crescent as control slips out of Haftar’s hand to Jodran’s
[LIBYANEXPRESS] Clashes erupted this dawn at the Libyan oil crescent between a coalition of forces led by former leader of the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG) Ibrahim Jodran and the forces of the self-styled army of Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
, who are positioned in the region.

Libya’s Es Sider oil port was shut on Thursday due to the festivities nearby and at least one storage tank in the neighbouring Ras Lanuf terminal was set alight, an engineer in the area said. Loadings were suspended at Ras Lanuf, according to a local shipping agent.

Jodran, who appeared today out of the blue, says his coalition forces aim to lift the suffering of the Libyans from "terrorist entity as that of Haftar’s self-styled army."

According to sources from the scene of fighting, Arclight airstrikes are being used by Haftar’s forces to thwart the full control of the PFG on the oil crescent region.

Haftar took control of Es Sider and Ras Lanuf along with other oil ports in Libya’s oil crescent in 2016, allowing them to reopen after a long blockade.
Storage tanks at both terminals were badly damaged in previous fighting and have yet to be repaired, though there has been regular loadings from Es Sider.

Islamic State kills 90 members for reluctance about battles in Syria
Yesterday we had a report about thirty having been killed in the area. Is this the same event with a larger number, a different event, or first a partial report and then a full report? What say you, dear Reader?
Anbar (IraqiNews.com) A pro-goverment paramilitary leader has revealed mass executions among Islamic State

members in Syria, near border with Iraq.

In remarks to Almaalomah website, Qutri al-Obeidi, a leader with the mobilization forces in Anbar said "Hegeen region, which is 40 kilometers away from Qaim town, west of Anbar, saw the biggest mass executions among Islamic State after the leaders killed around 90 members and threw their bodies in Euphrates river, as they were reluctant about the defense battles against Syrian army, which carries out operations to liberate regions near the borders."

Islamic State leaders in Syria "are in conflicts after being besieged and the Iraqi jets shelled regions in Syria," Obeidi added.

The group leaders, according to Obeidi, "urged the murderous Moslems to attend the execution and witness throwing their bodies in the river."

Mosul clearance continues: rumour denied, turbans tied up after cop killed, turban corpses ransomed

Iraqi military denies people killed in explosions in Mosul

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi military has denied news on murder of more than twenty persons due to bomb blasts that took place in Mosul, saying measures will be taken against whoever promotes for rumors.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Security Media Center, said “lies by some media channels are still ongoing. Some of these outlets reported that three booby-trapped houses exploded in al-Shahwan region in the Old City of Mosul, which left 27 people killed as explosive experts were unable to detonate them. The news were attributed to a policeman from the media department of Nineveh police called Ahmed al-Obeidi.”

The center denied “presence of an officer with that name or title,” adding that “these news are fabricated and untrue that seek affecting Iraqi people.”

“Legal measures will be taken against those who promote for these news in collaboration with security services,” it added.

Policeman killed, seven Islamic State member arrested in attack, northwest of Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) A policeman was killed, while seven Islamic State members were arrested during an attack by the militant group, northwest of Mosul, a security source from Nineveh said on Thursday.

“Islamic State members attacked a checkpoint for Federal Police and managed to kill a policeman,” Cap. Mortada Ahmed told BasNews. “Seven militants were arrested before running away.”

Security troops cordoned off Mafraq al-Kesk region, where the attack took place and carried out an operation in search for the remnants of Islamic State members.

In related news, another security source from Nineveh police said Moyasser Rashid, mayor of Oyounat village was killed in an armed attack.

“Unidentified gunmen opened fire against him, leaving him killed before running away,” Cap. Amir Wathiq told BasNews.

Islamic State militants relatives in Iraq pay in dollars to get their corpses

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Handing over the dead bodies of Islamic State militants to their families has turned into a bonanza for some relief workers and volunteers in Iraq, a security source was quoted saying.

Speaking to Iraqi Alghad Press website, the source said “some teams and volunteers working on extracting dead bodies from the Old City in Mosul have been confirmed to have sold Islamic State militants’ corpses for between USD2000 and USD5000”.

According to the source, those sell Daesh fighters corpses to their relatives”, adding that “security apparatuses are following that file besides antiquities heists at the Old City”.

Earlier on Thursday, another source within the local government in Nineveh province told the website that some bodies linked to government officials have plundered churches, ancient sites and money belonging to the militant group under the veneer of corpses recovering.

SC admits Khadija’s plea for hearing
[DAWN] The Supreme Court on Wednesday admitted for regular hearing an appeal of law student Khadija Siddiqui against the acquittal of Shah Hussain in her stabbing case by the Lahore High Court.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa also issued bailable warrants of Hussain and directed him to furnish surety bonds of Rs100,000 and bound him to appear on each hearing.

Granting leave to appeal, Justice Khosa observed that there was no room for "benefit of doubt" as the occurrence took place in broad daylight. "Had it taken place in dark there might be some benefit of doubt," the judge said.

"Why did Khadija and her younger sister nominate Shah Hussain as accused from whole world?" questioned Justice Khosa. The bench would resume hearing after summer vacation in the courts. Both Khadija and Hussain were present in the court.

Justice Sardar Ahmad Naeem of the Lahore High Court had on June 4 acquitted Shah Hussain giving him benefit of doubt. The judge had observed that the prosecution had failed to establish its case and the courts could not solely rely upon the statement of the injured witness/victim.

Chief Justice Nisar had taken suo motu
...a legal term, from the Latin. Roughly translated it means I saw what you did, you bastard...
notice of the convict’s acquittal after the decision was widely criticized on both mainstream and social media. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
the chief justice discharged the suo motu and fixed the appeal for hearing before Justice Khosa’s bench.

Last year, a judicial magistrate had sentenced Shah Hussain to seven-year imprisonment under section 324 of PPC for trying to kill his class fellow Khadjia. Later in March this year, a sessions court reduced the sentence by two years.

According to the prosecution, Hussain attacked Ms Siddiqui on May 3, 2016 near Shimla Hill where she along with her family driver had gone to pick her younger sister from school. Both sisters were about to get into their car when helmet wearing Hussain attacked Siddiqui with knife and stabbed her 23 times leaving her critically injured. Civil Lines police had started the paperwork but haven't done much else against Hussain on charges of attempted murder.

Shell-Shocked FBI Employees On Trump's 2016 Win: Trump Voters Are 'Poor, Lazy Pieces of S**t'
The poor darlings. Does anyone know if it was this bad before President Obama encouraged bad behaviour for eight years?
[Townhall] So, the Department of Justice’s inspector general dropped his report today. There were little notable nuggets here and there, but the most damning was a) saying then-FBI Director James Comey’s actions concerning how he handled the Hillary Clinton email probe during the 2016 election were extraordinary and insubordinate. So, there goes the liberal talking point that President Trump axed Comey to obstruct justice; Comey was given his pink slip in May of 2017. The second controversial aspect is the bias assessment. Besides Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, there are clear examples of bias from FBI employees. Comey is no exception either, especially at the outset of his book tour. But what people hang their hat on is the report saying there was no evidence that political bias generated partisan outcomes. That’ll be touched on in a separate post.

The examples of bias have been illustrated with the Strzok-Page, which number in the tens of thousands. The two FBI officials were having an extramarital affair, the texts were explicitly anti-Trump, and we now know Strzok assured Page that they would stop Trump from being president. Keep in mind, again, that Strzok was a top counterintelligence agent, he signed off on the counterintelligence probe into possible Russian collusion in July of 2016, and was part of the Hillary email probe. Once these texts were known, Special Counsel Robert Mueller removed Strzok, who has been reassigned to human resources; Page resigned in May. Yet, in this 500-page report, we have other FBI employees, reacting strongly to Trump’s 2016 win. It’s total shell shock. And some even took it a step further, bashing Trump voters as "poor," "lazy," and "pieces of s**t." you’d think these were transcripts from a meeting among Hillary Clinton’s inner circle (via DOJ/OIG) [p.417] [emphasis mine]:
But remember, according the IG Horowitz "there was no bias" involved in any of this.

This is a war that will go on for a while. The Media has become an ally of the Comeys and the Pages and the Strzoks. They are not friends to ordinary American taxpayer with kids on the school bus.

The Media can't be trusted. They are as reliable as used car salesmen. You go anywhere near a Media person keep your hand on your brain and your balls. They want both. Trump attempting to Make America White Again: Analyst
[PRESSTV] US President Donald Trump’s targeting of immigrants who allegedly violate immigration and citizenship laws shows the depths of his contempt for people of color and his attempt to Make America White Again, according to Myles Hoenig, an American political analyst and activist.

The administration of US President Donald Trump is launching an unprecedented effort to strip US citizenship from thousands of immigrants who may have lied or falsified information on their naturalization forms.

The US government agency that oversees immigration applications is launching an office in Los Angeles, California, that will focus on identifying individuals who are suspected of cheating to get their American citizenship and seek to deport them.

“Although it is not a serious problem, only 305 cases in 28 years, the Trump administration is using all its resources, and more, to target immigrants who abuse citizenship laws,” said Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress.

“No one would truly deny that the federal government has a right, even an obligation, to ferret out those who abuse immigration law and achieve citizenship illegally. However, the message is clear coming from this administration. Immigration is seen as more of a threat to this country than nearly anything else,” Myles said in an interview with Press TV on Thursday.

“We don’t see the IRS hiring lawyers and accountants to target the very wealthy and corporations who hide their money overseas to avoid taxes. The military has admitted that it cannot account for trillions of dollars, or that amount has been improperly accounted for. That’s a big news story but no follow up on the government doing anything about it, likely because nothing would be done about it,” he added.

Congo-Kinshasa: Acquittal of Bemba a Blow to Victims
[All Africa] Following the International Criminal Court (ICC)’s decision to acquit Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo, the former Vice-President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
(DRC), Solomon Sacco, Head of the International Justice team at Amnesia Amnesty International, said:

"The decision to acquit Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo is an important reminder that international justice is only possible if all suspects receive stringently fair trials before an independent and impartial judiciary.

"While the Appeals Chamber has held that Mr Bemba was entitled to an acquittal, the decision will be felt as a huge blow for the many victims of the ’war against women’ waged in the Central African Republic (CAR) through a horrifying campaign of rape and sexual violence.

"The Office of the Prosecutor of the ICC and judicial authorities in CAR must learn from this decision and redouble their efforts to investigate and prosecute alleged perpetrators of crimes under international law, with full respect for their rights to a fair trial.

"5229 survivors of Bemba’s atrocities participated in the ICC proceedings ‐ for these brave individuals, as well as thousands of other victims in CAR, the pursuit of truth, justice and reparations will continue."

Background
Today the International Criminal Court (ICC) Appeal Trial Chambers acquitted Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo, a Congolese national who was tossed in the slammer
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
in Belgium for his involvement in the conflict in Central African Republic.

Bemba was transferred to the ICC in July 2008 and charged with three counts of war crimes - murder, rape, and pillaging - and two counts of crimes against humanity - murder and rape. All the charges are related to the conflict in the Central African Republic (CAR) between 26 October 2002 and 15 March 2003.

On 21 March 2016, the judges of Trial Chamber III unanimously convicted Bemba of all charges. The conviction was based on the principle of command responsibility; the Trial Chamber found that Bemba knew that his militia troops were committing or about to commit crimes, but failed to take reasonable measures to deter or to punish these crimes.

On 21 June 2016, he was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.

Bemba was also tried separately, alongside his lead defence lawyer, Aimé Kilolo-Musamba, and his case manager, Jean-Jacques Mangenda Kabongo, as well as a member of the Congolese Parliament and a defence witness. In October 2016, all five men were found guilty under Article 70 of the Rome Statute for offenses against the administration of justice.

Turkey-backed armed groups looted, destroyed civilian property in Syria's Afrin: HRW
[PRESSTV] Human Rights Watch says The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
-backed gunnies in the Syrian town of Afrin have looted and destroyed civilian property after taking control of the Kurdish-dominated region in March.

"Those who made the decision to take over Afrin also took on the responsibility of ensuring that both the residents of Afrin, and people there who have been displaced elsewhere have basic shelter in a way that doesn’t infringe on either of those groups’ rights," HRW’s acting emergencies director Priyanka Motaparthy said in a report.

"So far it seems that they are failing to do the right thing by either group," she added.

The report is based on interviews and eyewitness accounts of people who have been displaced from Afrin. They accuse Turkey-backed forces of moving their fighters from other parts of Syria into vacated homes and of taking over business premises without paying compensation.

Roni Seydo left Afrin in March but was told by a friend that an gang had taken over his house, painting the word "seized" on the outside wall. He said his neighbors were questioned about his family and its possible links with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

Another former Afrin resident, photographer Ser Hussein, said one of his two studios was burned down and the other turned into a butcher's shop.

Turkey began the so-called Operation Olive Branch in Afrin on January 20 to clear the northern Syrian border of the US-backed Kurdish gunnies of the People’s Protection Units (YPG), whom it associates with the homegrown PKK fighting for autonomy on Ottoman Turkish soil.

[PRESSTV] A man has attacked worshipers at a mosque in South Africa with a knife, killing at least two people.

The deadly incident occurred in Malmesbury, a small town in South Africa’s Western Cape Province, on Thursday morning, local police said.

Police added that several other people had also been wounded in the attack before the assailant was shot dead by police.

“Malmesbury police were called out to a local mosque and found two people dead with stab wounds and several injured,” said Noliyoso Rwexana, a spokesperson for the Western Cape police.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut, a provincial police spokesperson, police forces in Malmesbury were called out to the mosque in the early hours of the morning.

“A couple of hours ago — about 03:00 — as people got themselves ready to pray, the suspect just got up and started stabbing the people,” said Malmesbury Police Constable Henry Durant, adding that the assailant had been among the worshipers apparently praying with them.

Durant said the assailant attempted to cut an old man’s head off with his knife “and the man died.”

Fellow worshipers also said that the suspect, believed to be a foreign national in his 30s, had not raised suspicions before the sudden rampage.

Traut, the provincial police spokesperson, explained that police officers approached the assailant, who refused to lay down his Rambo knife and charged at the officers. “He ignored the calls and tried to attack police. He was shot and killed in the process. His death will be investigated by IPID (the Independent Police Investigative Directorate).”

The assault came at the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and some five weeks after another attack at a Shia mosque in Verulam, in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal, in which one person was killed and two others sustained critical injuries when knife-wielding men attacked worshipers. The suspects in that attack, who also torched the mosque before fleeing, have not been arrested yet.

[LIBYANEXPRESS] The fighters of the self-styled army in eastern Libya led by Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969.

Three LNA airstrikes on ’terrorist’ targets south of Sirte
[Libya Herald] The Hafter-led Libyan National Army (LNA) Air Force revealed yesterday that it had carried out three Arclight airstrikes against ’’Al-Qaeda terrorist gangs formed of faceless myrmidons fleeing Benghazi and foreign mercenaries from Africa’’.

According to a statement posted yesterday on the LNA’s official Facebook page the operation took place after monitoring, follow-up and establishing their location with the first airstrike taking place Tuesday at 10 am and two further raids at 3 pm on positions 60 km south of Sirte. The statement said that the airstrikes achieved direct hits and the LNA jet fighters had returned safely to their bases.

The locations of the LNA airstrikes have raised questions about the areas of operation of the LNA and the Faiez Serraj Presidency Council / Government of National Accord (PC/GNA) aligned forces.

It will be recalled that in the beginning of April this year, the Faiez Serraj-led PC/GNA had launched an anti-terror military campaign entitled operation ’’Nation’s Storm’’.

The PC had said that operation ’’Nation’s Storm’’ aimed to target ISIS/ISIS terror remnants and dens starting from the 60 km checkpoint east of Misrata to the outskirts of Bani Walid, Tarhuna, Khoms and Zliten.

Furthermore, at a later April presser held by Serraj’s personal spokesperson Mohammed El-Sallak, it was asserted that the geographical area of the operation was already completely free of any elements of terrorist organizations and that the operation’s patrols were stationed in the region and fully securing it.

El-Sallak had assured that the Anti-Terror Force had not and will not enter any city or region, and that its tasks are limited to dealing with any potential targets in the valleys and reefs in the suburbs of the named towns and cities.

ICE arrests 162 in Los Angeles-area operation targeting criminal aliens, illegal re-entrants and immigration fugitives
[ICE] LOS ANGELES ‐ A Mexican national convicted of rape and a citizen of El Salvador convicted of Voluntary Manslaughter are among the 162 aliens taken into custody earlier this week during a three-day enforcement operation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) targeting at-large criminal aliens, illegal re-entrants and immigration fugitives, and aliens released back in to the community after detainers filed by ICE with local law enforcement officials were ignored.

This operation targeted public safety threats, such as convicted criminal aliens and gang members, and individuals who have violated the immigration laws of the United States ‐ including those who re-entered the country after being deported and immigration fugitives ordered deported by federal immigration judges.

Of those arrested in Los Angeles and surrounding areas from Sunday through Tuesday, almost 90 percent had criminal convictions. In 53 of the cases, ICE had filed detainers with local law enforcement officials notifying them of the agency’s intent to assume custody of these aliens once they were no longer subject to local detention.

Iran detains rights lawyer who defended headscarf protesters
[DAWN] Iranian authorities on Wednesday detained a prominent rights lawyer who had defended women protesting the obligatory headscarf.

Nasrin Sotoudeh was taken from her home, according to her husband, Reza Khandan, who said she managed to call him after she was detained. He said she was told she would be serving a five-year sentence at the Evin prison in Tehran after being convicted in absentia. "I have no idea what the sentence was related to," said Khandan.

There was no immediate comment from authorities.Sotoudeh is an outspoken critic of the country’s judiciary, which is dominated by hard-liners.

She had recently objected to its decision to limit the number of lawyers allowed to defend clients in security-related cases, calling the move a "farewell" to the right of defence. The judiciary had released a list of just 20 lawyers, out of 60,000 licensed attorneys, who would be allowed to defend such cases. After widespread objections, the judiciary said it would expand the list.

The mother of two also worked as a lawyer for women detained for refusing to cover their hair in public.

Sotoudeh, who has also represented prominent opposition activists, had previously served a three-year prison term from 2010 to 2013 after being convicted of security-related charges.

Indian Army chief wants to give peace a chance in Kashmir
[DAWN] Stressing on talks to establish peace in India-held Kashmire, Indian Army chief Bipin Rawat ‐ in an interview with Economic Times published ‐ said the recruitment of local Kashmiri youth by faceless myrmidons cannot be controlled.

"Talks must happen. The issue is that a lot of locals are joining militancy. We kill them and more would join. Infiltration can be controlled, but this cycle of recruitment of local youth can go on and on. So...let’s give peace a chance and see," the Indian general was quoted as saying by the ET on Tuesday.

In the interview, he refrained from revealing details of the inquiry on into the incident of a Kashmiri man being tied as human shield to an Indian army vehicle.

"The inquiry is on. I had also made the statement that strongest punishment would be given to him [the accused major] if he is found guilty."

General Rawat's comments signify a softer stance than his earlier remarks where he had warned the Kashmiri youth, telling them that "freedom is not possible".

According to the source, who asked not to be named, “the black terrorist is one of Daesh’s most dangerous leaders, and had been responsible for the recent explosions that took place in the city”. He added that “maps of targets of attacks were found in his possession”.

Contours of Anti-U.S. Iraqi Government Emerge
[Institute For The Study Of War] Key Takeaway: Key Iraqi Shi’a and Kurdish leaders have signaled their support for a new Iran-backed political alliance, setting up a potential coalition with enough parliamentary seats to form the next Iraqi government. Such a governing coalition would further strengthen Iran’s position in Iraq and undermine the U.S. ability to secure its own interests in Iraq.

Iraqi nationalist Shi’a cleric Moqtada al-Sadr and Iranian proxy and Badr Organization head Hadi al-Ameri formed an alliance on June 12, 2018. Their respective electoral lists represent the two winningest alliances in Iraq’s federal legislative elections that occurred on May 12, 2018. Former Iraqi Prime Minister and current Vice President Nouri al-Maliki, Shi’a cleric Ammar al-Hakim, and two major Kurdish parties have signaled their support for the Sadr-Ameri alliance. A formal coalition emerging among these actors and the electoral lists they lead would clear the 165-seat majority threshold required to form a government. A Sadr-Ameri alliance under this scenario would not need support from blocs led by current Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and secularist Ayad Allawi.
