Dems sit on their arses on House floor to protest lack of gun legislation
[Wash Examiner] House Democrats blocked the House from doing its work Wednesday by staging a sit-in on the House floor to protest the lack of any votes on gun control legislation this week.
Featuring the clssic John Lewis 'bowel blockage scowl.' Seething, angry Dems. Sorry folks, that's the only kind we have.
Civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., gathered Democrats around him, and encouraged the symbolic protest shortly before noon, a time reserved for short speeches but no legislative work.

"We will occupy this floor!" Rep. John Larson, D-Conn., bellowed as Democrats sat on the floor.
Please think 'outside of the box.' Seppuku is also on option.
"After the worst mass shooting in modern history, it's time for Speaker Ryan to bring a bill to the floor," said the office of House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md. "House Democrats will continue to demand: no bill, no break."

Africa Subsaharan
South Africa the 'Rainbow Nation' is on fire
[IOL] Pretoria - The hotel is located among embassy buildings in suburban Arcadia - and it was in this three-storey establishment that the plan to render the capital city ungovernable was finalised.

The Pretoria News can reveal that hours after ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte named Thoko Didiza as the Tshwane mayoral candidate at Luthuli House on Monday morning, at least 12 people met at the Court Classique Hotel to hatch the unrest.

The meeting was co-ordinated and chaired by a senior ANC official and attended by branch leaders and ward councillors and candidates for the August 3 elections.

Under the command of the official, whose identity is known to the Pretoria News, the faction that was unhappy with Didiza's [a Zulu] appointment came up with a four-point resolution.

The plan was to turn the city into a battlefield if "Sputla" - mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa - was not back in for another term.

Dubbed the "Court Classique Resolutions", the group vowed to torch all government and city properties, close exits and entry points of all zones, burn the ANC regional office and disrupt all political activities.

Tribalism and Marxism are dangerous combinations of the same toxin. Tribalism being the patriarch. Events in distant Pretoria are little more than a foretelling.

#1  Some inside-baseball:

Some years ago, ANC leaders mooted the idea of putting the cream of its leadership crop in local councils, because it was this level of government that could make the biggest difference to people's lives. That seemed like a great plan for the country, at least while mayors were deployed from a national level. Then came 2007, when populist sentiment in the ANC swept former president Thabo Mbeki and his centralist grip on things out of power. Instead of national appointing them, mayoral candidates for the ANC would now be nominated by the party's regions, just like premiers would be nominated by the provincial executive committees. Majoritarian democracy like this always seems to break down when there are two more or less equal factions not agreeing on things, and where the party’s grip on power is weakening.

In at least two such municipalities, there is evidence that the party wants to put its best foot forward to lure back straying voters.A recent opinion poll showed that the party could yet lose its grip on the metro in the August 3 local elections, whereas previously it pulled through with the help of trade unions like the National Union of Metalworkers. But these are no longer on board the tripartite alliance ship, and ANC leaders knew an urgent intervention was needed. Efforts to appoint a compromise candidate, who rose above the fierce local faction fighting, resulted in the disaster that was the aged Ben Fihla, before well-known soccer boss Danny Jordaan was roped in.

Former minister and bright star Thoko Didiza, with her 14 years' experience in national government, seems a good choice too for Tshwane. She's a high-level import into the metro, and could lure sceptical voters. Unlike Jordaan, she actually sits on the ANC's national executive committee and serves in a local branch, which could indicate that she's in touch with the issues. Unlike Jordaan, she wasn't born in the city where she hopes to govern, but she has lived there for a while.

But why her? The story amongst analysts in the party is that Gauteng brought her in with an eye on the ANC's 2017 elective congress. Didiza – who resigned from government when Mbeki resigned, and who only made her comeback to politics four years later – was brought in by the province, more specifically by provincial ANC chairperson Paul Mashatile. Mashatile is a vocal critic of President Jacob Zuma. Mashatile needs someone, like Didiza, who will strengthen his hand ahead of 2017, party analysts say. His chosen candidate for Johannesburg, Parks Tau, is already in place, which means he has a grip on two of the three metros in the province.

Given divisions in the ANC in the region, would it have been better to leave it at the choice of the branches without muddling? Would it have prevented Tshwane from burning this week anyway?

If the decision to nominate Didiza stands, and if she wins the city for the ANC, she would have to rise above what is good only for the party – appeasing the factions by showering them with resources and deployments – and do what is good for the country, by governing the city by the book. These demands can be in conflict with each other. On the other hand, should her candidature not bring the ANC back into power in the metro, and should it slip into opposition hands, who knows if the ANC will do what's best for the city and capitulate. Or will the disgruntled ones at the bottom do what seems to be good for the ANC, but what is really catastrophic for everyone, and push the self-destruct button?

#2  Excellent summation Pappy. I might also add, the ANC wants no part of a break-away Afrikaner Freistat (White Free State) in the Cape. The Freistat movement is growing. The ANC is shipping in their cadre of enforcers. The drain continues to swirl. Meanwhile, much like our urban crime problem, the western media remains silent.

#4  Q: What's the difference between South Africa and Zimbabwe?
A: About 10 years.
Posted by: g(r)omgoru || 06/22/2016 14:51 Comments || Top||

#5  Actually about twenty years, but that's quibbling.

An aside: Ramokgopa, besides being the current and mediocre mayor, is also a regional party chairman and still has ANC protection. But he didn't get nominated and the local party interests picked his assistant instead. It's the local party interests that are sponsoring the rioting.

As far as Freistat: yes, it's growing. The ANC is also concerned about the 'Asian' and mixed race groups as well.

Tribalism, indeed.

I postulated that this would happen some years back (it's probably in a Burg comment somewhere.)

The conditions have been and are ideal: a relatively advanced infrastructure. A long-residing Arab/Muslim population. A nation far enough away from Western nations with access to all of Africa, and the ability to interfere with maritime traffic.

And - run by a political movement sympathetic to the Islamist cause.

Harvard University Study Reveals Astonishing Link Between Firearms, Crime and Gun Control
h/t Donald Sensing
According to a study in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, which cites the Centers for Disease Control, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the United Nations International Study on Firearms Regulation, the more guns a nation has, the less criminal activity.

In other words, more firearms, less crime, concludes the virtually unpublicized research report by attorney Don B. Kates and Dr. Gary Mauser. But the key is firearms in the hands of private citizens.

"The study was overlooked when it first came out in 2007," writes Michael Snyder, "but it was recently re-discovered and while the findings may not surprise some, the place where the study was undertaken is a bit surprising. The study came from the Harvard Journal of Law, that bastion of extreme, Ivy League liberalism. Titled Would Banning Firearms Reduce Murder and Suicide?, the report "found some surprising things."

Norway, Finland, Germany, France and Denmark, which have high rates of gun ownership, have low murder rates. On the other hand, in Luxembourg, where handguns are totally banned and ownership of any kind of gun is minimal, the murder rate is nine times higher than Germany. Their source of information? The United Nations' International Study on Firearms Regulation, published by the UN's Economic and Social Council and the United Nations Commission on Crime-Prevention and Criminal Justice.

Arabia
After Mideast, will the Saudi-Wahhabi nexus destabilize East Asia?
h/t Donald Sensing
Professor Brahma Chellaney from India’s Center for Policy Research has sound advice for the next American president regarding US militarized approach to fighting terrorism.

In a December 2015 article entitled "Saudi Arabia’s Phony War on Terror", Chellaney pointed to the Wahhabi ideology, "a messianic, jihad-extolling form of Sunni fundamentalism" as the root cause of global terrorism.

He warned that unless expansion of Wahhabism is arrested, the global war on terror is ineffective. ’No matter how many bombs the US and its allies drop, the Saudi-financed madrassas will continue to indoctrinate tomorrow’s jihadists.[1]

After two years of bombing campaign, Pentagon officials reveal US is now running out of bombs to drop on Islamic State (IS).[2] And the Saudi-Wahhabi nexus continues to indoctrinate new jihadists -- now in East Asia.

Foggy Bottom FSO revolt May Define Beest as Weak Candidate
[Observer] 51 dissident State Department Foreign Service Officers (FSOs), the Dissent 51, signed a Dissent Channel cable savaging the Obama Administration’s Syria policy and implicitly attacking the Obama Administration’s inept diplomatic and military strategy for eliminating the anti-Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Usually one FSO (or at most a handful) sign a dissent cable. 51 is an unprecedented number of government line officers signing a dissident document which--Obama Administration denials to the contrary--could put their careers at risk.

The Dissent 51 FSOs demonstrate that America still has federal employees who will risk their careers to express profound professional disagreement with what they believe are major policy errors which damage U.S. interests, in this case long term U.S. security interests in the Middle East and Europe.

This is good news.

The Dissent 51 cable, however, also exposes a severe and now embedded morale problem within the State Department. One solo signee per dissent cable seems to be the usual case, with a rare duo or trio. 51 shows that senior State Department officials and the White House have vehemently ignored their own staff experts. Now the experts are exasperated. The exasperation may have begun as personal exasperation but it is now institutional exasperation--which is why I describe the morale problem as embedded.

PR man sez he was shooter's lover - Pulse attack was HIV Pos 'revenge'
[The Mail] A man claiming to be the Orlando shooter's lover says Omar Mateen was livid after discovering he'd had sex with an HIV-positive man. The Hispanic gay man, identified only as Miguel, told Univision he met Omar Mateen on Grindr before they became 'friends with benefits', meeting up 20 times at a hotel in Orlando, Florida.

Miguel described Mateen as a confused gay man and a heavy drinker who was attracted to - but felt rejected by - Latinos. He believes Mateen's massacre on Pulse nightclub's Latin Night was an attempt at 'revenge' after discovering that one of the two Puerto Rican gay men he'd had a threesome with was HIV-positive.

Speaking in fluent Spanish and broken English, Miguel said that despite tests coming up negative, Mateen feared not enough time had passed for an accurate result, and he wanted to 'make them pay'.

Story also found at the Daily News....same Univision interview sourced.
If accurate, many questions answered.
Except for all the questions about his background, his conversations with others in the home country, etc.

Billionaire Open Borders Funder Soros Tells Britain To Stay In EU ‐ Or Else
[Breitbart] George Soros, the billionaire who earned fame by betting against the pound in 1992, said that a British vote on Thursday to leave the European Union would trigger a bigger and more disruptive sterling devaluation than the fall on Black Wednesday.

Soros used Quantum Fund in 1992 to bet successfully that sterling was overvalued against the Deutsche Mark, forcing then-Prime Minister John Major to pull the pound out of the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM).

Soros, in an opinion piece in the Guardian newspaper, said that in the event of a British exit, or Brexit, the pound would fall by at least 15 percent, and possibly more than 20 percent, to below $1.15 from its current level of around $1.46.
That's not a prediction, that's a plan of operation...
"The value of the pound would decline precipitously. It would also have an immediate and dramatic impact on financial markets, investment, prices and jobs," Soros, who is 85, said in the Guardian.

Non-entitlement TV anchor fired after crime comments files discrimination lawsuit
[WAPO] In March, a white award-winning broadcast news anchor in Pittsburgh posted on her professional Facebook page what she claimed was a heartfelt call to action on the perceived black-on-black crime epidemic in the United States, particularly in the city she’d covered for almost 20 years.

The post came two weeks after she covered a mass shooting at a backyard barbecue that left four people injured and six dead, including a pregnant woman, in Wilkinsburg, a majority black borough. The district attorney called the heinous crime calculated, planned and one of the "most brutal" he had seen in his 18-year tenure.

Police did not immediately release names or descriptions of the suspects. When WTAE-TV anchor Wendy Bell took to Facebook, there had been no arrests.

Yet the veteran journalist drew her own conclusions about the perpetrators anyway, comments that were decried as racist and demeaning -- and that eventually cost her her job.

Iraq
Iraqi commander: About 2,500 IS militants killed in Fallujah
[IsraelTimes] A senior Iraqi military commander says about 2,500 Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
holy warriors have been killed during a month-long offensive to recapture the city of Fallujah.

The counter-terrorism forces’ chief in the operation, Lt. General Abdul-Wahab al-Saadi, tells the local al-Sumaria TV late on Monday that the number of IS fighters inside Fallujah ranged between 3,500 to 4,000 when the offensive began in late May.

Iraqi troops have not disclosed their losses in Fallujah though the Islamic State group claims to have killed dozens.

Al-Saadi offers no specifics to back up the figure of 2,500 killed IS fighters. He claimed about 15 percent of them were imported muscle.

He cites Iraqi police reports as saying 1,086 IS-linked suspects have been placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
. He didn’t say how many IS holy warriors remain in Fallujah.

Erdogan loses appeal against German media boss
[AlAhram] President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
lost a German court battle against a top media boss Tuesday when his appeal in a bitter row over free speech was thrown out.

Erdogan had sought a court order to stop the Axel Springer media group's chief Mathias Doepfner from repeating support for a TV satirist who crudely insulted the Turkish leader.

After failing to get an injunction from a lower court last month, Erdogan also lost an appeal before the higher regional court in the western German city of Cologne
...a lovely city in Germany. They invented perfume there...
The judges said they considered Doepfner's letter of support "a permissible expression of opinion as protected under Article 5" of Germany's constitution, the court said in a statement.

Erdogan could still seek recourse before Germany's top tribunal, the Federal Constitutional Court.

The legal action came after Doepfner published in April an open letter in one of the Springer group's newspapers, in which he backed Jan Boehmermann -- the satirist who in a poem accused Erdogan of bestiality and watching child pornography.

Boehmermann's recital of his so-called "Defamatory Poem" on national television in late March sparked a diplomatic firestorm and a row over freedom of expression.

During the broadcast Boehmermann gleefully admitted his poem flouted Germany's legal limits to free speech and was intended as a provocation.

In his letter, Doepfner took the comedian's side, declaring: "For me, your poem worked. I laughed out loud."

In a controversial move, Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom...
authorised criminal proceedings against the comedian after The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
requested he be prosecuted for defamation.

The higher regional court stressed Tuesday that its ruling in favour of Doepfner had no bearing on the other case still pending.

Erdogan has come in for fierce Western criticism of late over his increasingly authoritarian rule, just as the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
has turned to Turkey to help stem the influx of asylum seekers from Middle East war zones.

Palestinians firebomb Israeli cars; teen shot dead by IDF
[IsraelTimes] Three Israeli motorists said lightly injured; army walks back statement blaming slain youth for attack.

Israeli troops rubbed out a Paleostinian teenager after Paleostinians threw Molotov cocktails at cars near the West Bank village of Beit Ur al-Tahta early Tuesday. Other Paleostinians were maimed, Paleostinian security officials said.

The army said that troops shot at least two men, "after a number of Paleostinians hurled rocks and Molotov cocktails at moving vehicles near the village of Beit Sira on route 443."

Three Israelis were maimed when their car was pelted with stones on Route 443, a highway connecting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem that runs through the West Bank west of Jerusalem, the IDF said. Several vehicles were damaged.

"An initial review suggests that as the mob continued, nearby forces acted in order to protect the additional passing vehicles from immediate danger and fired toward the assailants," a military statement said. "Forces confirmed hits resulting in the death of one of the attackers."

An IDF spokesperson later retracted the statement, telling The Times of Israel that none of the Paleostinians hit by gunfire were believed to have been involved in the rock-throwing incident.
It's never a good idea to hang around when bullets are flying -- they don't differentiate between innocent and guilty.
Paleostinian officials named the dead youth as as 15-year-old Mahmoud Badran. Paleostinian media identified him as coming from the village of Kafr Qadum, east of Qalqilya.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Parents of Trump’s Would-Be Assassin Say He’s Lovesick and Autistic, Has No Interest in Politics
More on this story from yesterday, answering Dr. Steve's question about who paid the lad's expenses, and other questions.
[DailyBeast] The parents of a young British man who allegedly tried to shoot Donald Trump say they had contacted the U.S. authorities asking for help to bring their vulnerable boy home before he was tossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
at a campaign rally in Las Vegas.

Michael Steven Sandford, 20, who grew up in the suburbs of Surrey, close to London, reportedly said he had been in the U.S. for 18 months after overstaying his visa.
Isn't that a typical story...
His parents were begging him to come home, and grew increasingly concerned over the last three months. His father told local Portsmouth paper The News that he had recently become "upset" but they didn't know why because his Asperger's syndrome made it very hard to express his emotions.

"He's been refusing to come back and we were worried about him, we were in contact with the American Embassy telling them we were worried about him. The American authorities said, 'He's over 18 we can't do anything,’" said Michael Davey, who split from Sandford’s mother when the boy was four.
Technically true, but couldn't our authorities pinch him? After all, he had overstayed his visa...
That's called "establishing a precedent."
Sandford had fallen in love with an American girl when he was 18 but she moved back home to New Jersey with her parents, according to Davey. He became so depressed that his parents gave him the money to travel to the U.S. to live closer to his girlfriend. Davey said he didn’t know if the couple were still together as his son rarely shared details of his private life.
So that's the money used to come here. Did they give him money to support his living expenses? Was he sponging off the girlfriend?
"Since he moved out there it became slowly harder and harder to get in touch with him. He does Skype, but it’s always with a white background behind him so you don’t know where he is," Davey told The News.

"He’s never been very good at communicating, he’s never been interested in politics and never really been interested in much... Because of his condition, he never talks about his private life and it’s always had quite an impact on how he behaves. He left school when he was 15 because he couldn’t cope with it all so he’s got no qualifications or job experience."

Davey said his son was never a loner, he did have friends at school, although he was often shy when meeting new people.

"I don’t want to use the term radicalized but we don’t know who he has been speaking with--this just isn’t him," he said. "It’s an absolute shock, he’s never been violent in the slightest, he’s always been a polite and peaceful boy."
"He was a quiet man..."
Sandford’s stunned parents received a call from the authorities on Sunday afternoon. Davey is planning to fly out to see him as soon as possible.

"Whether he’s been blackmailed or put up to it, that’s the only thing me and his mum can think of. It’s so against his nature and obviously with his Asperger’s, we think somebody has got hold of him and done something," he said. "He has no interest in politics, the world, geography or anything. He’s not a typical teenager because he doesn’t drink or smoke or do drugs, he’s never had any interest in that."

#13  Accidentally posted the below in the wrong thread an hour ago. My apologies for the confusion.

The Telegraph has more from the father:

Mr Davey, 50, his father, said: "He met an American girl. Later on she moved back to the US with her parents and he got quite down and depressed about it all so we all paid for him to move out to America for a year.

"This was to get his life sorted out and so he could be with this girl. So he got a flat in New Jersey and for all we know he's been with her.

"Since he's been out there it's difficult to get any information out of him. About three months ago the money ran out so we sent him some more and asked him to come back.

"He's been refusing to come back and we were worried about him, we were in contact with the American Embassy telling them we were worried about him. The American authorities said 'he's over 18 we can't do anything.'

My guess is either the girl and her family spoke often of how dangerous Mr. Trump is, in the usual way, and young Mr. Sandford decided to be helpful, or he ended up in the wrong internet/Twitter crowd, and took all the bluster seriously.

No doubt some reporter will find the girlfriend shortly, even if the FBI, et al have not. Mr. Sandford's parents clearly know who she and her family are, and where they live.

He received a wave of support from the Dutch public after his arrest. A Facebook page, Justice for Jitse, has been liked by 23,371 people.

"Public prosecutors have dismissed the case against JA, who was suspected of being involved in killing ISIS fighters in Syria," reads a statement from the prosecutor’s office noting that there was "insufficient evidence to show that A was personally involved in committing homicide or attempted homicide."

The prosecutor also observed that an on-the-ground investigation of the claims against him is "impossible given the current climate."

It is illegal under Dutch law for private citizens to engage in armed conflict.

Arms depot blast kills 29 near Libya capital
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An kaboom in an arms depot near the Libyan capital killed at least 29 people and maimed dozens of others on Tuesday, security and medical officials said.

The blast occurred in Garabulli, a town about 60 kilometers (40 miles) to the east of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, when gunnies stormed the depot belonging to a militia, a security official said.

"Armed men stormed the arms depot which belongs to a militia from Misrata (further east). A blast occurred but the exact causes are still unknown. Maybe the militia had rigged the depot," said the official.

A medical source said at least 29 people were killed and dozens maimed.
"There are body parts" at the depot, he said, adding that the corpse count could rise.

The security official said the gunnies stormed the warehouse after clashing Tuesday with armed residents of Garabulli who had accused them of stealing from a grocery store.

Jordan king vows to hit back against border attackers
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Jordan's King Abdullah vowed to hit back "with an iron fist" against attackers who killed six army border guards with a boom-mobile near the frontier with Syria on Tuesday, a palace statement said.

The kingdom’s army chief of staff announced on Tuesday that Jordan's northern and northeastern borders with Syria were closed military zones.

The order comes into immediate effect, just hours after six Jordanian border guards were killed in a suicide kaboom on their military post in a desolate area in the country's far eastern border area with Syria that also converges with the Iraqi border.

The attack took place at 05:30 AM local Jordanian time after an explosives-laden vehicle blew up a few hundred meters from a camp for Syrian refugees in a desolate area where the borders of Iraq, Syria and Jordan meet, Jordan's army said.

Jordan's state TV says called the incident a "cowardly terrorist attack."
Al Ahram adds:
The army said the suicide bomber set off from a makeshift Syrian refugee camp in no man's land near the Rukban border crossing in Jordan's remote north.

The driver entered Jordanian territory through an opening used for humanitarian aid deliveries and went kaboom! as he reached a military post.

Tunisia Extends State of Emergency by a Month
Tunisian President Begi Caid Essebsi announced on Monday the extension of the state of emergency throughout Tunisian territories by another month.

In the statement issued, the presidency announced that the decision came after consultations between President Essebsi, Prime Minister Habib Essid, and President of People’s Representatives Assembly Mohammed Naser.

Tunisia imposed a state of emergency last year after the November 24 suicide attack on a bus carrying presidential security guards that killed 13 people in the capital Tunis.

This security measure allows authorities to ban strikes and demonstrations, temporarily close theaters and pubs and to “take all measures to ensure the control of press and publications of all kinds,” the statement added. Essebsi praised the progress but stressed on additional procedures in case of any possible threat.

Meanwile, head of Electoral Commission Shafiq Sursar announced the launch of the first stage of elections of Supreme Judicial Council.

During a press conference, Sursar announced Monday that the lists were published on the commission’s website. He stated that the lists now include 13,122 voters, adding that anyone who wants to object to them has until August 1.

According to a source, the elections will take place on October 23 and the preliminary results will be announced on the commission’s website as soon as votes are counted.

Meanwhile, the Temporary Judicial Council asked the Minister of Justice the respect and independence of the judicial system and separation of powers.

Similarly, the council asked the judges not to succumb to pressure that might influence their decision.

The council’s statement was issued after employees at Tozeur governorate’s post office unexpectedly went on strike over the suspension of the head of the post office.

Despite the union’s demands to release the employee, the Temporary Judicial Council confirmed that any review of any verdict is done through judicial commissions.

ISIS counter-attack pushes Syrian forces out of Raqqa province
[RUDAW.NET] The Islamic State

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) has reportedly pushed Syrian regime forces back out of the province of Raqqa in a large counter-offensive which has killed 40 soldiers, afflicting a serious setback on the regimes two-week old offensive against the murderous Moslems there.

"ISIS [ISIS] has managed to drive out regime troops from the administrative borders of Raqqa province after a fierce counter-offensive," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor reported.

ISIS launched this counter-offensive late on Sunday as the regime forces closed in on the town of Tabqa, home to a former airbase and Syria’s largest dam. Tabqa is 40 kilometers upstream, west, of the lovely provincial capital city of Raqqa, ISIS’s primary city stronghold in Syria.

The Syrian Observatory reported on Monday that the regime has been forced to 40km from Tabqa airport after previously being only 7km away from it.

Fearing losing Tabqa - and the regime successfully securing a foothold in Raqqa for the first time since August 2014 - ISIS poured hundreds reinforcements into that key town from Raqqa city.

The Observatory estimates that 40 of the regime forces were killed, including an officer, while no fewer than 21 ISIS murderous Moslems were killed. This brings the total casualties in the regimes Raqqa offensive to 93 dead regime forces and 126 dead ISIS murderous Moslems, according to the Observatory’s estimates.

#2  Firebombing villages in Idlib and Aleppo, far as I can tell. Maybe some CAS east of Palmyra. There's some claiming that the Tabqa area was under a sandstorm, but the footage doesn't show anything particularly extreme. And that there is a heck of a rout.

Might have been the result of withdrawals to south of Aleppo to reinforce or re-build a front behind where Hezbollah broke under the pressure of a rebel/Nusra offensive out of Idlib a couple days ago.

The regime policy of "fight everybody" seems to paying anti-dividends.

Meanwhile there's footage today of a B-52 over Manbij. I don't know if they were using telephoto lenses or if they're really flying BUFFs that low on CAS duty. I honestly thought they used the B-52s further out than that.

#5  I just don't get it. I was never in the military, which given my penchant for arguing with authority, is probably a good thing all around. I have all the respect in the world for you guys that have "been there, done that."

That said, though, I was raised on the stories of WWII and almost wound up in Viet Nam. 40 killed seems like a minor skirmish rather that the results of a "large counter-offensive".

So for all you spurts out there why am I so off the track?

39 dead in fresh Bunyan Marsous offensive in Sirte
[Libya Herald] At least 39 soldiers from the Bunyan Masrous operations room were killed today in massive clashes with Islamic State (IS) forces near the centre of Sirte. The fighting followed a fresh offensive by the operations room to seize the centre of the town.

Misrata Central Hospital reported that in addition to receiving 39 bodies, it was treating 33 injured, six of them in critical condition. Other reports, though, speak of at least 60 wounded. Most of the dead and injured are from Misrata although some are from Sebha, Sirte, Jufra and Waddan.

The number of IS casualties is unknown although the operations room spoke of dozens dead.

Most of the fighting was in the area known as “700 district” in south east of the centre, and less than a couple of kilometres from the Ibn Sina hospital. Bunyan Marsous says that it now controls much of the area as well as the already heaving damaged District No. 2 in the west centre of town along with the neighbouring Ben Hamal Mosque, the electricity headquarters north of the hospital and the radio station nearby.

Hacked DNC File: Fears over Hidden Clinton Foundation Donations from Former Russian Uranium Exec
[Breitbart] On Tuesday, hacked Democratic National Committee (DNC) files released by the Guccifer 2.0 hacker reveal circulated talking points intended to combat the Clinton Cash revelation that the former head of the Russian uranium company UraniumOne, Ian Telfer, made four undisclosed Clinton Foundation donations totaling $2.35 million--a clear violation of Hillary Clinton’s ethics agreement with the Obama administration to disclose all donations.

In an April 29, 2015 memo titled "Friends and Allies Talking Points--Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership (CGEP)," Clinton surrogates were instructed to respond to questions about undisclosed foreign donations by Ian Telfer, a Canadian, accordingly:

This is hardly an effort on the Foundation’s part to avoid transparency. In fact, the main donor noted in the Post article as contributing to CGEP (Canada) -- Canadian businessman Ian Telfer -- was also disclosed as a Foundation donor. So the fact of his status as a Foundation contributor was not at all a secret.

However, as Clinton Cash reported, and the New York Times reported in a 4,000-word, front-page investigative report, the former Russian uranium executive’s donations were not disclosed. "Those contributions were not publicly disclosed by the Clintons, despite an agreement Mrs. Clinton had struck with the Obama White House to publicly identify all donors," reported the Times.
No outrage, of course...

#8  The Telegraph has more from the father:

Fifth Column
Black Lives Matter Blames ‘White Supremacy,’ ‘Capitalism’ For Orlando Terror Attack
[DAILYCALLER] In their statement on the Orlando terror attack, the activist group Black Lives Matter blamed white supremacy, the patriarchy and capitalism for the attack in which Omar Mateen killed 49 people.
George Soros approves of this message...
"Despite the media’s framing of this as a terrorist attack, we are very clear that this terror is completely homegrown, born from the anti-Black white supremacy, patriarchy and homophobia of the conservative right and of those who would use religious extremism as a weapon to gain power for the few and take power from the rest," the statement said.
Please get this information to U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch and FBI Director Comey. They are looking for answers and the root causes of this attack as we speak.
"Homegrown terror is the product of a long history of colonialism, including state and vigilante violence. It is the product of white supremacy and capitalism, which deforms the spirit and fuels interpersonal violence," the statement continued.

The statement later claimed that religious extremism "is not new to America and is not unique to Islam. For centuries, religion has been used to subjugate queer people of color and lay the groundwork for our deaths."
That's the one true statement in this whole insane diatribe. What is news to BLM is that Christianity has gotten a lot better at the whole "live and let live" thing, whereas certain other religions are bitter clingers to their beliefs and to their scimitars...

#18  The BLM and other anti-white racists are mistakenly but deliberately throwing away cultural traditions that are as open to them as to any other Homo sapian -- regardless of skin colour. It was not whites as such that invented all those things, but people freed of control by tribe and caste, living as equals in the eyes of laws equally applied to all, in a culture that rewards hard work and innovation regardless of which skin might happen to cover it.

And what is white anyway? Nowadays the American descendants of Spain and Portugal, Europeans who once ruled a quarter or more of the planet, are considered persons of colour, while Jews, a faith that like Christianity and Islam has believers across the globe, are suddenly considered by some to be white instead of a kind of Other. For that matter, sub-Saharan Africans would consider most African-Americans, including our beloved president, to be white rather than black like them.

What matters is the culture, not the skin.

Afghanistan
Insurgent Violence at a New High in Afghanistan, says UN
Insurgent activities are at their highest level this year. Violence has increased by 14 percent in first three months of 2016, compared to the same period last year, says the United Nations in a new report on Afghanistan.

The report says that the peace talks with Taliban are deadlocked. It also criticizes the Afghan government for not bringing about enough reforms in election bodies.

The UN says that between 16 February and 19 May this year, the world body recorded 6,122 security incidents, a decrease of 3 per cent compared with the same period in 2015. This was attributed primarily to a reduction in incidents involving improvised explosive devices. The southern, south-eastern and eastern regions however continued to account for the majority of incidents at 68.5 per cent.

"There is war in 24 provinces of Afghanistan which claims the lives of civilians every day. Attention should be given to this issue," said Hashim Alokozay, member of Meshrano Jirga (Upper House of Parliament).

The UN report reveals that Afghan leaders are still failing to appoint officials to key government positions.

"This is a sign of the failure of government in implementing its commitments to Afghan civilians and to the international community," said political analyst Seddiq Patman.

In his comment the president's deputy spokesman Sayed Zafar Hashemi said the "government has achieved much in its efforts for peace with Hizb-e-Islami Party. Our efforts are ongoing and also in other areas, including electoral reforms."

The UN has welcomed the Afghan government's efforts in preparation of the Warsaw Summit in July. It has praised the government for starting big projects, and in doing so it leads to greater trust by the people trust in the administration.

300 Kurd prisoners released as ISIS gets the hell outta Dodge

[ARA News] DUHOK – Subsequent to the withdrawal of the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) from major parts of Fallujah city, Iraqi forces announced the release of hundreds of Yezidi Kurds who had been taken by ISIS as hostages two years ago.

Activists confirmed the release of 354 Yezidi girls from ISIS detention in Fallujah.

“The freed girls had been taken as sex slaves by ISIS jihadis,” Yezidi rights activist Kelesh Shingali told ARA News. “They are now under the protection of the government forces and they’ll soon be transferred to the Kurdistan Region.”

“The release of those girls was a great accomplishment, especially after they suffered brutal practices and sexual abuse by ISIS barbarians,” he said.

“The entire Yezidi community is happy for the freedom of those girls, and we are looking forward to the release of the rest of Yezidi women held by ISIS,” Shingali told ARA News.

In August 2014, ISIS radicals took over the Yezidi region of Shingle (Sinjar) in northern Iraq, causing a mass displacement of nearly 400,000 people to Duhok and Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan. Tens of thousands of Yezidis remained trapped in Mount Sinjar, suffering mass killings, kidnappings and rape cases, according to local and military sources. Also, more than 3000 Yezidi girls have been taken by the radical group as sex slaves.

On November 13, the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in Iraqi Kurdistan, backed by an air cover from the US-led coalition forces, announced the liberation of the entire Yezidi district of Shingal in the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh after fierce battles with ISIS extremists. The Kurdish forces have recently discovered more than five mass graves in the Yezidi region, where hundreds of Yezidi civilians have been summarily executed and buried by ISIS jihadis. Yet, thousands of Yezidi women remain in ISIS captivity after being sold as sex slaves across the group’s territory in Iraq and Syria.

Human Rights Watch called on ISIS to urgently release Yezidi women and girls abducted since 2014. “The longer they are held by ISIS, the more horrific life becomes for Yezidi women, bought and sold, brutally raped, their children torn from them,” said Skye Wheeler, women’s rights emergencies researcher at Human Rights Watch.

“Many of the abuses, including torture, sexual slavery, and arbitrary detention, would be war crimes if committed in the context of the armed conflict, or crimes against humanity if they were part of ISIS policy during a systematic or widespread attack on the civilian population,” the HRW said. “The abuses against Yezidi women and girls documented by Human Rights Watch, including the practice of abducting women and girls and forcibly converting them to Islam and/or forcibly marrying them to ISIS members, may be part of a genocide against Yezidis.”

UN agencies warn of alleged rights violations, funding shortfall in embattled Fallujah
[Iraq Sun] Amid ongoing fighting in the embattled Iraqi city of Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
office today warned of continuing allegations of serious rights violations, as the Organization"s refugee agency reported a funding crunch to meet the immediate needs of the thousands of civilians who continue to flee the area.

At the regular bi-weekly press briefing in Geneva earlier today, C"cile Pouilly, spokesperson for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), said her Office is "deeply concerned" about continuing allegations of serious human rights violations and abuses against civilians fleeing Fallujah by gangs operating in support of Iraqi security forces.

"We"ve received shocking footage showing the body of a man being dragged at speed by a military truck while a man wearing a military uniform hits his disfigured and bloodied head," Ms. Pouilly said.

"Another video shows people being struck with a rifle and kicked in the head by men wearing military uniforms while they exit a truck. Although we are not in a position to authenticate these videos, they depict violations which have been reported to us by several sources and which we"ve previously condemned," she added.

The spokesperson said that on 12 June, a committee set up by the Anbar Governor to investigate violations perpetrated against civilians during the military operations in Anbar stated that 49 people had been killed and that at least 600 men had disappeared after being taken into custody by gangs operating in support of Iraqi security forces.

It also found that the people taken into custody by these groups were ill-treated and/or tortured. These violations allegedly occurred from 2 to 4 June near a cemetery in the Saqlawiya area, northwest of Fallujah, and in the al-Mazra"ah area, east of Fallujah, Ms. Pouilly said.

"We welcome these initial findings and hope that the committee"s investigations will be pursued rigorously and extended to cover all such alleged violations. Following the announcement by the Iraqi Defence Minister that four army members have been placed in durance vile
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
, we call on the Iraqi authorities to ensure that there is no impunity for the very grave violations and abuses that have been reported," the spokesperson said.

18 militants killed in an airstrike in North of Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least 18 holy warriors were killed in an Arclight airstrike in northern Faryab province of Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Tuesday.

The Arclight airstrike was carried out in the vicinity of Garziwan district targeting the bad boys, MoD said, adding that 8 more holy warriors were critically maimed in the raid.

The Ministry of Defense also added that two vehicles belonging to the holy warriors were also destroyed in the Arclight airstrike.

The anti-government armed bad boy groups including the Taliban forces of Evil have not commented regarding the report so far.

Faryab is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where anti-government armed bad boy groups are actively operating in a number of its districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

This comes as a key Taliban group commander was killed during a shootout with the Afghan cops in Qaisar district two weeks ago.

The senior Taliban capo was identified as Mullah Kamal and was involved in major terrorist activities in this province.

Senate committee declares forced conversions as un-Islamic
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs on Tuesday declared the conversion of Hindu girls to Islam as un-Islamic and also expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
over the practice.

"Forced conversion of girls to Islam is against the teachings of Islam and also a violation of law in the country," stated Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs’ Hafiz Hamdullah.

"The girls are being across the country on a daily basis which is a dilemma of the society."

The chairman of the committee added religion is a personal matter of every individual, and said an individual can not be converted by force.

Leader of House in the Senate Raja Zafarul Haq also stated that compelling anyone to convert is against the teachings of Islam.

"We are already under observation from human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
organizations due to growing incidents of force conversions," Haq added.

Senator Gian Chand informed the committee that Hindu girls in Sindh are the victims of force conversions and incidents of force conversions in Sindh are alarming.

Chand was of the opinion that police and local administration do not help the victims or their families in cases of forced conversions.

"Police does not take action fearing the reaction of the Moslem community," added Chand.

The standing committee urged the government to adopt a comprehensive mechanism for the protection of women belonging to minority communities. The committee also directed the federal and provincial governments to draft legislation which would curb the practice.

Last year, a move to criminalise forced religious conversions and to prevent misuse of the blasphemy law was endorsed by the members of the Senate’s Functional Committee on Human Rights.

Pro-Romney forces given reins to GOP convention rules, positioned to launch anti-Trump coup
[WASHINGTONTIMES] The specter of Donald Trump’s presidential nomination being ripped from under him in a nastily contested Republican National Convention next month is alive -- again.

Anti-Trump forces appeared to have been defeated after he ousted his remaining opponents from the race in early May and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Paul D. Ryan and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus all signaled that Mr. Trump had sewn things up.

But weeks of bad press stemming from Mr. Trump’s criticism of a federal judge and uneven handling in the aftermath of the Orlando, Florida, terrorist shooting have kick-started efforts to deny Mr. Trump the nomination on the convention floor.

The dump-Trump forces may have received another opening last week when Mr. Priebus tapped Utah RNC member Enid Greene Mickelsen and Massachusetts RNC member Ron Kaufman as Republican National Convention Rules Committee chairwoman and co-chairman, respectively.

#5  The nomination of McCain and Romney resulted in this self-destructive revolt. The Republican Party was dead the minute Trump starting winning primaries with a plurality. IMHO Perry was our best chance and at the end, Cruz was the only small government constitutionalist left. Now we see the slow motion train wreck this set in motion. The elites are scrambling to stab Trump in the back before he goes down in flames and takes the remaining power structure and piggy trough with him, and Trump doing what he does best, promoting Trump no matter how liberal and elitist he himself is.

Before you ask, yes I worked against Trump and I still believe he is a huge mistake. So you know where I stand. What I cannot understand is how anyone can support him other than in fear of President Hillary.

#14  What we are watching is not just the self destruction of the GOP, we are bearing witness to the collapse of democracy in America. This is bigger than Trump. This is corruption trying to defend itself inside the GOP. This is total corruption controlling the Dems. All popular opposition to the incumbent leaders on both sides are coming from the middle of America. The middle democrats are so desperate to fix their party they are willing to support Sanders, a true threat to democracy. This election has the potential to send our democracy into another revolution.

Brownsburg man arrested, accused of traveling to support ISIL
[WTHR] A Brownsburg, Indiana, man was tossed in the calaboose
Please don't kill me!
Tuesday for attempting to join the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS).

FBI agents arrested Akram Musleh, 18, as he tried to board a bus from Indianapolis to New York. The FBI believes Musleh was going to fly to Morocco in transit to ISIS-controlled territory.

The arrest was announced by Assistant Attorney General for National Security John P. Carlin, U.S. Attorney Josh J. Minkler of the Southern District of Indiana and Special Agent in Charge W. Jay Abbott of the FBI’s Indiana Division.

Musleh is accused of planning to provide support to ISIS by fighting for the terrorist group.

FBI agents were on the scene at Brownsburg Pointe Apartments in connection with the investigation.

Musleh attended Brownsburg High School
According to the criminal complaint, when Musleh was a student at Brownsburg High School in 2013, he posted three videos of Anwar Al-Awlaki to YouTube. Al-Awlaki was a radical holy man assassinated in a drone strike several years ago, and his videos encouraging Moslems to kill Americans have been associated with the radicalization of several suspects in domestic terror attacks.

The complaint says the school worked with the FBI to dissuade Musleh from "engaging in radical extremism."

In September 2014, Musleh bought an ISIS flag online. In June 2015, he was seen in a photo posing in front of the flag.

Musleh allegedly asked youths if they wanted to join ISIS
In April 2015, Brownsburg Police investigated an incident in Williams Park in Brownsburg to look into allegations that certain people at the park were asking juveniles if they wanted to join ISIS (another name for ISIS). The FBI determined that Musleh was one of the people asking juveniles about joining ISIS.

First attempt to travel to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
It's believed Musleh traveled to Istanbul, Turkey in June 2015, booking at least three separate one-way tickets from reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
to Istanbul. Musleh allegedly told U.S. Customs and Border Protection that he was going to Istanbul to visit family. Then he explained he was traveling to get married, and would be meeting his fiancee and her family there. But the FBI says Musleh doesn't have family or friends in Turkey - and they say that the alleged fiancee is an ISIS sympathizer living in Sweden.

Musleh was not allowed to travel to Turkey in June 2015 because his passport was set to expire that August. Turkey requires a minimum of six months of validity on passports for visitors.

Journal, online statements in support of ISIS
When the FBI conducted an authorized search of Musleh's checked baggage, they found a journal containing quotes from Al-Awlaki, the late Osama bin Laden
... who was laid out deader than a mackerel, right next to the mackerel...
and others associated with terrorist groups.

The FBI says Musleh posted statements supporting ISIS on social media and found evidence of that activity online.

One-way ticket
Investigators say Musleh bought a one-way ticket on April 4, 2016 for June 23, 2016, from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to Casablanca, Morocco, and then on to Nador, Morocco. On April 21, 2016, he bought a one-way Greyhound bus ticket from Indianapolis to New York, to depart on June 21, 2016.

Musleh researched terror targets in Indiana
The FBI found that in May 2016, Musleh looked at a 2006 news article with the headline, "Indiana tops lists for terror targets," which details the Indiana Department of Homeland Security's list of 8,500 terror targets in the state. He also looked at commercial websites for pressure cookers a few days later and conducted extensive research on kabooms like dynamite, flash powder, explosive precursors, along with instructions about explosive chemical recipes.

AG Lynch Admits FBI Has Lost Track of Omar Mateen's Wife
Attorney General Loretta Lynch admitted today that the FBI is unaware of the whereabouts of Omar Mateen's wife, Noor Salman.

Salman has indicated she suspected Mateen was about to commit a terrorist attack, and even accompanied him to buy the weaponry he used to carry out the massacre. She insists, however, that as he left she tried to hold onto his arm so he wouldn't leave.

If the FBI believes she was aware of the impending attack, she could be prosecuted.

"Has the shooter’s wife left the state of Florida?" a reporter asked Lynch during her press conference Tuesday.

"Right now, I don’t know exactly the answer to that," Lynch candidly replied. "I believe she was going to travel but I do not know exactly her location now."

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Three arrested outside NYC after weapons cache, ballistic vests found in vehicle
[FoxNews] Three people who were arrested when police discovered a weapons cache in a vehicle outside New York City at the Holland Tunnel Tuesday, claim they were on they way to "rescue" a teenage girl involved in drugs, according to officials.

Port Authority Police Department Superintendent Michael A. Fedorko said that Dean Smith, 53, John Cramsey, 50, and Kimberly Arendt, 29, were taken into custody after they were stopped around 7:40 a.m. in Jersey City, N.J.

Cramsey wrote on Smith's Facebook page early Tuesday morning that he was driving to New York to "do an extraction" of a 16-year-old girl from a hotel room in Brooklyn after an issue involving drugs. Smith replied, "I'm there." It was unclear what, if anything, the weapons had to do with their plans.
It was abundantly clear...
The trio, from Pennsylvania, initially was stopped by Port Authority Police at a toll plaza for a cracked windshield, authorities said. An officer saw the weapons in plain view on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Officials found multiple weapons -- some loaded -- including rifles and handguns in their vehicle, described by a law enforcement source as a "jacked up SUV." Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that ballistic vests were also found in the SUV.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Kelly Langmesser, told Reuters that counter-terrorism agents weren't involved and the case didn't have a "terrorism nexus."

"If it's not terrorism, it's criminal," a source told Fox News.

Drugs were also recovered from the vehicle, which has been cleared from the scene but is still being processed for evidence.

Orlando Shooter Said He Wanted U.S. To Stop Bombing IS In Iraq
[Iraq Sun] The Orlando gunman who killed 49 people at a gay nightclub described himself in phone calls with authorities as "an Islamic soldier," and demanded that the United States stop bombing Syria and Iraq.

The U.S. air strike campaign against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. and its leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
, to whom gunman Omar Mateen pledged allegiance during the calls, was the reason Mateen gave for shooting people at the nightclub, according to transcripts of the calls released by the FBI on June 20.

The heavily redacted transcripts provided details about the assailant's professed Islamist motives. Republican congressmen said that the redacted parts also showed he was motivated to kill gays.

The FBI has said that while Mateen, whose family was from Afghanistan, derived inspiration from IS online, it has no evidence that the bad boy group funded or organized his June 12 attack.

Mateen also warned during the incident that he would set off boom-mobiles and boom jackets attached to hostages to cause even more mass carnage like that seen in the IS-inspired Gay Paree attacks in November.

Those proved to be empty threats, though they prompted police to end the negotiation, move in and kill him.

Afghanistan
Taliban kidnap scores of passengers from Helmand province
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs have kidnapped scores of passengers from the restive in Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
in southern Afghanistan.

The incident took place in Greshk district earlier today after the Talibs stopped a number of vehicles including a bus carrying passengers.

The passengers have been taken to an unknown location and the exact number of hostages yet to be confirmed.

The Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.

The Talibs have stepped up hostage takings across the country during the recent weeks as the group claim they abduct security personnel and government officials traveling in the highways.

Numerous kidnapping incidents have taken place in northern Afghanistan following a major kidnapping incident that took place late last month in northern Kunduz province.

At least 185 passengers were kidnapped as they were traveling on the main highway in Kunduz last month but majority of them were released after they were interrogated.

The Talibs killed at least 17 of the kidnapped passengers after they were accused of working for the government.
Later the same day:
Taliban claims snatching passengers on highways is not kidnapping

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs group in Afghanistan has claimed that snatching passengers from the highways is not an act of kidnapping.

The Taliban group front man Zabiullah Mujahid issued a statement following the kidnapping of scores of passengers in Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province.

In his statement, Mujahid said the Taliban fighters took passengers from at least 3 buses with them amid suspicions they work for the security institutions of the country.

Mujahid further added that 27 people were taken by the Talibs and the remaining holy warriors were released after they went through a preliminary interrogation process.

He said the remaining 27 people would be released if found not guilty or would be handed over to the judiciary of the Taliban group if they had role in working with the security institutions.

145 militants active in J&K
[Daily Excelsior] As many as 145 murderous Moslems, including 54 foreigners, are active in Jammu and Kashmire while 4,587 Kashmiri youths have crossed over to Pakistain-occupied-Kashmire (PoK).

This information was given by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also holds Home portfolio, in the Legislative Assembly today in reply to a question by Rajesh Gupta.

The reply said that reportedly 145 hard boyz are active in the State, out of which 91 are locals and 54 foreigners. She said reportedly 4,587 youths and missing people have crossed over to PoK.

The reply said that 489 youth alongwith their wives and children have returned from PoK and Pakistain to Jammu and Kashmire via Nepal with effect from 2003 till May 22, 2016.

Interestingly, Nepal is not among the four routes approved for return of Kashmiri youths from PoK or Pakistain. However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
in reply to another question by Leader of the Opposition in the House Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister said the State Government has sanctioned a policy and procedure for rehabilitation of mis-guided youth who have crossed to PoK but have given up bad boy activities due to change of heart and are willing to return to State.

The policy has recognised four routes for the return of misguided youth. Nepal is not an approved route under the policy, the reply said. The Chief Minister said that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sought comments of the State Government on the inclusion of Nepal route as an additional entry point.

The State Government has recently forwarded its comments to the MHA, the reply said. (UNI)

Iraqi forces seize 2 Fallujah districts from Islamic State
[Iraq Sun] Iraq's armed forces pressed on with their offensive to retake the city of Fallujah from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
on Tuesday, June 21dislodging the gunnies from two eastern districts and pushing them back into a handful of northern and western neighborhoods, Rooters reports.

A military statement said the elite counter-terrorism forces took the northeastern Shurta police district while units from Baghdad operations command recaptured the Askari military neighborhood.

Islamic State still held the northern districts of Jughaifi and Golan as well as the western banks of the Tigris river.

Fighting to recapture the Iraqi city longest held by Islamic State, now in its fifth week, has forced more than 85,000 residents to flee to overwhelmed government-run camps.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said last week that the recapture of Fallujah would pave the way for the military to march on djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, Islamic State's de facto capital, Rooters says.

The operation's commander Lieutenant General Abdul Wahab al-Saidi told Rooters on Monday that U.S.-backed Iraqi forces expected the final push would take place in the west.

The Iraqi army is also pressing on with an offensive to dislodge the gunnies from farmlands located on the western bank of the Euphrates, opposite the built-up area of Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
that the gunnies use as a base for snipers and mortar attacks.

"The simultaneous attacks are continuing from four directions to tighten the noose around ISIS (Islamic State)fighters entrenched in houses among civilians and prevent them from catching their breath," said Colonel Ahmed al-Saidi from the federal police.

Government troops launched the operation on May 23 to retake Fallujah, a bastion of the Sunni Moslem insurgency against U.S. forces that toppled Saddam Hussein, a Sunni, in 2003, and later against Shi'ite-led governments.

The gunnies seized Fallujah in January 2014, six months before they declared a "caliphate" over part of Syria and Iraq.

Libya pro-govt forces preparing ‘decisive’ Sirte assault
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Libya's unity government forces said Tuesday they were preparing for a final assault on the ISIS group's stronghold of Sirte, after repelling multiple counter-attacks from the surrounded myrmidons.

"Despite apparent calm along the fronts, our intelligence network is in full swing in preparation for the decisive battle," forces loyal to the Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
-based Government of National Accord (GNA) said in a statement.

Anti-ISIS forces launched an operation to retake Sirte -- the hometown of late dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...a reminder that a single man with an idea can change an entire nation, usually for the worse...
-- last month and quickly surrounded the krazed killers.

ISIS hit back with string of suicide boom-mobileings in a bid to break the encirclement.

According to the pro-GNA forces statement, fighters were targeting ISIS-held areas of Sirte with heavy artillery as well as with "daily" air strikes.

"(ISIS fighters) are besieged in a small area of Sirte and although they have sought to break out our forces have repelled all attempts," the statement said.

It added that the jihadists had barricaded themselves in residential buildings and had deployed snipers and bombs to fend off pro-GNA forces.

According to medical sources, five pro-GNA forces were killed and 16 maimed in festivities.

Loyalists said they had killed "dozens" of Death Eaters in the past 24 hours.

At least 170 loyalist troops have been killed and hundreds maimed since the start of the offensive to capture Sirte, 450 kilometers east of Tripoli.

An unknown number of Death Eaters have been killed in the city, which they overran in June.

Yet another militant shot dead?
[Dhaka Tribune] The death of Golam Faizullah Fahim while he was in police custody was inexcusable.

And now, not 24 hours later, comes the news of the killing of Sharif, said to be a senior military and IT trainer of the Ansarullah Bangla Team, and prime suspect in the Avijit murder case.

Over the last 11 days alone, a total of six holy warrior suspects have been shot to death. Six.

It would certainly appear that this is the latest law enforcement strategy to deal with the holy warrior threat.

Bangladesh has a long and unfortunate history of resorting to extra-judicial killings as a means to combat terrorism, and we very much hope that this is not what is happening again today. In a democratic country that operates under the rule of law there can be no substitute or short-cut to bringing the accused to trial and having them face justice in a court of law.

Equally important, when suspected Death Eaters are rubbed out in opaque circumstances, it dramatically diminishes the public trust and credibility of law enforcement, and indeed runs the risk of destroying public confidence in the rule of law, which is something that surely no one would like to see.

And perhaps most importantly, it is the responsibility of law enforcers to apprehend the accused and glean as much information as possible from them, with a view to tracking down the criminal masterminds behind the attacks and bringing them to justice.

With each death, authorities lose information that could be vital to apprehending those behind the killings, preventing future killings, and dismantling the terror networks that have been wreaking such havoc.

It would perhaps be understandable if such deaths in shoot-outs were occasional or isolated events. But these deaths in two weeks suggest something far more sinister.

At best, it suggests that law enforcement is acting in an utterly reckless and unprofessional manner. At worst, it suggests that this is a new strategy that they are employing in their fight against terror.

If it is the former, then it shows that law enforcement is seriously ill-equipped and ill-prepared to address the terror threat that this country is facing.

If it is the latter, the implications are even more dire.

Either way, the killing of terror suspects in shoot-outs cannot continue.

Why does the WH humiliate Women of Color?
[NYPost] Idiotic: That’s the only word for the Obama administration’s move to scrub references to Islam or ISIS from the transcripts of Orlando terrorist Omar Mateen’s calls.

Under an avalanche of ridicule, the Justice Department on Monday relented and released the full transcripts. But what was the point? Everyone already knew that he’d pledged allegiance to ISIS and its “caliph.”

Fine: President Obama wants to make this about gun control, not terrorism — but ham-handed editing only calls attention to what you’re deleting, and to Obama’s peevish rules against uttering terms like “radical Islam.”

Just look at the redactions:

Mateen: “I pledge of allegiance to [omitted]. “I pledge allegiance to [omitted] may God protect him [in Arabic], on behalf of [omitted].”

All the omissions did was make Team Obama look determined to keep its head in the sand about the nature of the enemy.

Even the “explanations” sounded dumb. Here’s Attorney General Loretta Lynch on ABC’s “This Week”: “What we’re not going to do is further proclaim this man’s pledges of allegiance to terrorist groups, and further his propaganda.”

Further his propaganda? Seriously? The answer to Islamist jihad is to black out the words?

Lynch never did anything this absurd in all her years as US Attorney here in New York, so you know the order came down from above.

It’s also idiocy déjà vu: Four years ago, Team Obama made then-UN Ambassador Susan Rice tour all the Sunday shows to blame the deadly Benghazi attack on an Internet video, rather than on the terrorist plot they all knew it was. She looked a fool once the administration finally admitted the truth, just as Loretta Lynch does now.

It makes you wonder: Who at the White House feels compelled to send women of color out to humiliate themselves on national TV?
Human shields ?

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Clinton Superdelegate Chaka Fattah aka Arthur Davenport Found Guilty on Corruption Charges
[FREEBEACON] Rep. Chaka Fattah (D., Pa.), a Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as the Smartest Woman in the World and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Jeremiah S. Black ...
superdelegate, was convicted on Tuesday on corruption charges stemming from a racketeering conspiracy in which the congressman and four associates misappropriated thousands of dollars from federal, campaign, and charitable sources.
Chaka Fattah? Oh man, and I bought all his records...
Fattah and four associates were indicted in July 2015 on 29 corruption charges including racketeering, bribery, money laundering, mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, and falsification of records, among other charges.

The Department of Justice said Fattah took an illegal $1 million loan from his failed Philadelphia mayoral bid in 2007 and disguised it as a loan to his consulting company.

At the end of the campaign, Fattah used a scheme to repay the loan through grants and charitable funds from his nonprofit, the Educational Advancement Alliance, and passed through two other companies. In order to pull off the scheme, sham contracts were created to conceal the contributions and repayment operation. False entries were made into accounting records, campaign finance disclosure statements, and tax returns.

Lobbyist Herbert Vederman, consultant Robert Brand, Fattah’s Congressional District Director Bonnie Bowser, and Educational Advancement Alliance CEO Karen Nicholas were charged along with Fattah.

Dead men don't talk
[Dhaka Tribune] Are we really supposed to believe that the police are so foolish as to take someone caught red-handed fleeing the scene of the latest murderous attack on a raid where he is subsequently rubbed out?

Such a scenario does not merely strain credulity, it insults the intelligence.
It's also frequently humor provoking...
The public is being asked to believe that our law enforcers are so colossally reckless and blundering that they would put a key suspect who was in a position to reveal valuable information in harm’s way
...in a banana grove at 3 am...
instead of keeping him safe in police custody.

The implications for our safety, were this actually to have been the case, are beyond belief.

But of course, this was not the case. Let us call a spade a spade. The police explanation lacks all credibility.

The death of Golam Faizullah Fahim is inexcusable and there must be consequences for all who were responsible.

At best, it was a massive blunder and criminal dereliction of duty.

At worst, it is something far more troubling.
Yup, it's worse...
It beggars belief that the opportunity to question such a key suspect could have been squandered so carelessly.
The bright side is, his mother misses him and the prison system isn't paying for his dinner...
Given the slow progress in bringing to justice those behind the ongoing attacks on minorities and others, the potential intelligence this suspect could have provided would have been invaluable to the investigations.

Instead, his death only makes things worse, and heightens public concerns about the lack of progress in getting to the bottom of the killings and bringing those behind them to justice.

It also dramatically diminishes public trust and confidence in the ability or willingness of the authorities to deal with such attacks.
So you say, but then you have to explain why the RAB is apparently so popular. Perhaps it's because it's the only agency in B-desh that is doing anything?
This killing has dealt a body blow to the credibility of law enforcement, and, by extension, the government.

Reckless police action is no substitute for gathering the evidence and intelligence needed to find out who are behind the assassination'>assassinations and bringing them to justice.
That assumes that B-desh has a functioning justice system, which over the last hundred years or so has been a bit of a stretch...

Violent clash blocks travellers at Garabulli
Tripoli, 21 June 2016:

Violent fighting this morning blocked the Tripoli-Misrata main road at Garibouli. Travellers were warned on social media not to approach the area. Pictures of the conflict showed burning property and vehicles.

The cause of the fight remains unclear. A local resident claimed that Misratan militiamen were involved in a clash with local militiamen. However another source said that the destruction had followed a dispute between a shopkeeper and a checkpoint guard.

Many die in day-long Garabulli violence

Tripoli, 21 June 2016:

It appears that as many as 80 people may have died in fighting in Garabulli today, with tension remaining high as locals expect further violence in the next 24 hours.

Yesterday, a militiaman from a Misratan unit, believed to be the Bayou Battalion, which is based in the town, went into a shop and allegedly refused to pay for goods. The shopkeeper, Ali Al-Rajhi, shot the militiaman, identified as Al-Ghanma, in the leg. Some reports say Rajhi seized Ghanma’s own weapon and shot him with it. Before sunset, Ghanma’s comrades returned and burnt down the shop and demolished the shopkeeper’s home.

At dawn this morning, young men from Garabulli reportedly attacked three Misratan militia camps in the town, including that belonging to the Bayou Battalion as well as one used by military police. At some point, in one of the camps, a container holding ammunition is said to have exploded causing multiple deaths and injuries. A large brown cloud hung over a compound after the blast. It is being claimed that as many as 49 Misratans died in the course of the day, many apparently in that explosion. However, Misratan military sources are only been mentioning militiamen killed in the fighting in Sirte. There have been no comments about the Garabulli incident.

Meanwhile Garabulli sources are saying that 30 locals were killed and 25 wounded, many of them by Misratan fire from 106mm guns and, one report claimed, Grad rocket salvoes. A resident in the town told the Libya Herald that some of the wounded townspeople had died of their injuries because Misratans blocked the road to both Tripoli and Khoms. Ambulances were not allowed through.

The road either side of Garabulli had earlier been blocked by local residents with sand heaps.

The Bayou Battalion is reported to have abandoned its base and relocated to the village of Gasr Ben Hamad to the east of the town. One source in Misrata described the battalion as “hooligans deeply involved in people-smuggling”. Garabulli along with Zuwara has emerged as a key launching point for migrants.

Tonight the lightly-armed residents are preparing for what they believe will be a counter-attack tomorrow. One claimed that individuals from Tripoli had been arriving in the town to help with its defence.

The incident has been condemned by both the Presidency Council and by UN special envoy Martin Kobler.

In its statement, the Presidency called for militias to withdraw completely from Garabulli and for an investigation, saying that the guilty would be published. It also promised that the army would take over responsibility for security in and around the town.

In a tweet, Kobler said that he was shocked at what had happened and called on everyone to exercise restraint and resect the sanctity of Ramadan.

The death toll among Garabulli townspeople brings awkward echoes of Tripoli’s November 2013 Gharghour massacre in which 47 demonstrators died in a protest at the continued presence of outside militias. Those reverberations are the louder because there are unconfirmed reports that Bayou Battalion members were among the Misratans at the Gharghour base at the time of the killings.

At the time, there was widespread shock at what was the first major loss of life since the Revolution. The bloody confrontation, which was condemned by some in Misrata, led to the withdrawal of its militias from the capital. Misratan forces returned with the Libya Dawn takeover in June 2014. Militiamen from the city are now responsible for guarding prime minister-designate Faiez Serraj and other members of the Presidency Council in their headquarters in Tripoli’s Bu Sitta naval base.

During a meeting with the Afghan armed forces late on Saturday night, Dostum said ISI has been continuously attempting to destabilize Afghanistan and conduct terrorist attacks with the help of Haqqani terrorist network.

Dostum further added that the newly appointed leader of Taliban Mawlavi Haibatullah Akhundzada

and Quetta cities of Pakistain.

The Afghan officials have long been criticizing Pakistain for failing to take actions against the groups using the Pak soil to carry out attacks in Afghanistan.

In the meantime, the US Department of Defense recently said Pakistain should deny safe havens to the terrorist and krazed killer groups in its soil in a bid to help improve the security environment of the region.

"Pakistain must play a role in reducing the threat from terrorist and myrmidon groups in the region," the Defense Department said in a report.

The report further added that sustained Pak efforts to pressure the Haqqani Network and the Taliban and to disrupt active threat streams are necessary to help decrease violence in the region, to reduce the threat posed by these groups, and to achieve lasting progress on counterterrorism issues.

#1  Who is crewing the Patriot batteries? And launching one missile is supposed to do what? The bigger the warhead, the bigger the missile, the bigger the launching facility, the harder it is to move said launching facility in a rapid fashion.
So, you launch a single missile into an effective Patriot envelope and are pretty sure in advance you'll lose the launching facility.
Either the shooters are pretty dumb, or there's something OFF here.

UN Syria envoy laments shelling as aid convoys reach towns
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The UN envoy for Syria expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
s Tuesday about a new trend in the country’s five-year war: Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
’s government has allowed humanitarian aid into besieged cities and towns, but those same areas have been shelled either before or after the convoys arrived.

Speaking by videoconference to the UN General Assembly plenary in New York, Staffan de Mistura detailed his office’s efforts to help shepherd aid to embattled Syrians, bring government and opposition envoys back to peace talks and buck up a fragile cease-fire - all aimed at ending Syria’s devastating conflict that has left at least 250,000 dead.

De Mistura noted progress this year in reaching areas that have long been surrounded by fighters, limiting or even halting access to aid shipments from UN and other humanitarian and advocacy groups. But authorizations for access from the government have come with "bad news," he said - violence targeting the same areas that get aid.

"There has been a trend in the last weeks that the very areas where there has been a breakthrough of delivering humanitarian aid to besieged areas have been then shelled, before and after the convoys have reached all the parties," de Mistura said.

De Mistura also detailed his hopes to revive indirect peace talks between government and opposition representatives. He has convened them three times already this year, but with no progress toward his final aim: a political transition for Syria.

He said a truce between Assad’s forces and rebel fighters brokered by the US and Russia is "heavily challenged" in places like Idlib, Latakia and Aleppo, but overall fighting remains less than before it was reached in February.

Loretta Lynch: We May Never Know Why That Islamic Terrorist Killed All Those People
[Daily Caller] When Omar Mateen said, "I did it for ISIS," what did he really mean? We may never know.

U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch has told the gay community "we stand with you" and insisted that investigators are continuing to follow leads on the gunman and mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub...

She wouldn’t give specifics about the investigation or a possible motive. She said "people often act out of more than one motivation" and called the June 12 massacre at the gay club "clearly an act of terror and an act of hate." She added that a motive may never be known.
In other news: FBI Director Comey..."I have absolutely no idea what is causing the violence and bloodshed in Chicago."

Loretta Lynch: 'Most effective' response to Islamic terrorism '€˜is love'

[Wash Times] Attorney General Loretta Lynch told Florida’s LGBT community that the "most effective" weapon at America’s disposal against Islamic terrorism is "love."
Of course she did.
Mrs. Lynch told reporters in Orlando on Tuesday that an ongoing investigation will determine the precise motive for 29-year-old Omar Mateen’s June 12 massacre at Pulse, a gay nightclub. Mateen, a former security guard, called 911 and pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group while killing 49 people and wounding 53 others.

"To the LGBT community -- we stand with you," President Obama’s attorney general said. "The good in this world far outweighs the evil. Our common humanity transcends our differences, and our most effective response to terror is compassion, it’s unity and it’s love. We stand with you today because we grieve together, and long after the cameras are gone will continue to stand with you as we grow together in commitment and solidarity and in equality."

Mrs. Lynch added that $1 million in emergency funding for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement would be allocated "as soon as possible," the Miami Herald reported.

The federal funds will be used to cover overtime pay and other costs incurred by Orlando’s local law enforcement agencies during the massacre, the newspaper reported.
'Overtime pay' and HIV screening.
"The message of Orlando is a message of determination to remove hatred, to remove intolerance from our midst," Mrs. Lynch said.

#1  Quran (5:33) - "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement"

Took only 5 minutes to google the reason Loretta. So why don't you just tell the truth. Your Islamic executive branch masters are the fifth column.

Publisher Tutul was attacked on instruction of Boro Bhai
[Dhaka Tribune] The owner of Shuddhashar publishing house was attacked on the instruction of one Boro Bhai (big brother).

A source in the police requesting not to be named told the Dhaka Tribune that Sumon in his statement under 164 identified the Boro Bhai as Ishtiaq, a sacked official of law enforcement agency, who is now working with the holy warrior outfit.

Banned holy warrior outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) member Sumon Hossain Patwari alias Shihab alias Saiful alias Shakib admitted to his involvement in the attack on publisher Ahmedur Rashid Chowdhury Tutul.

Suman divulged the information yesterday during his confessional statement under section 164.

Sumon was produced before the court by Detective Branch (DB) of police inspector Bahauddin Ahmed on Tuesday.

Bahauddin, also the investigation officer of the publisher attack case after the end of the five-day remand made an appeal to the court to record the statement of the accused under the section 164.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ahsan Habib, recording the statement, sent him to jail.

Mashruruqure Rahman Khaled, deputy commissioner of the DB police, told the Dhaka Tribune that Sumon admitted to his direct involvement in the murder attempt.

"Sumon said that he along with four others launched the attacks and gave some important information on the rest of the attackers but it only can be disclosed after receiving the copy of the statement," he said.

DC Khaled further said the drive is on to arrest others involved in the attack.

Detectives on June 15, jugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
Sumon from Kamrangirchar area of Dhaka. Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Police declared Tk18 lakh bounty on the heads of six bully boyz including Sumon.

Police arrested him just 25 days into the announcement of the bounty.

The court sources said Suman in his statement said that they attacked publisher Tutul as they felt it was their religious obligation to punish those publishing or writing against Islam from different platforms including blogging sites.

They had been keeping an eye on Tutul for a month before the attack. They used to stay in different places of the capital during the time of their recce of the Tutul’s working place.

Sumon said he joined a private firm after his Higher Secondary School Certificate exam and joined the ABT later. Before taking part in the mission to the attack Sumon had to take almost one and a half months-long training.

Hailing from Chandpur district Sumon used to live in Dhaka. On the Foysal Arefin Dipon murder, Sumon said they did not take part in the killing mission. Another ABT member Selim was the coordinator of the killing mission and all the instruction came from Boro Bhai.

Earlier on October 31, three bloggers and writers, including Tutul, came under attack in his Shuddhashar publication office in the capital’s Lalmatia area.

The other injured are blogger Ranadipam Basu and poet Tareq Rahim.

Heroic Huey pilot to receive Medal of Honor five decades later
[USA Today] WASHINGTON — The details of the heroism that will see Charles Kettles awarded the Medal of Honor at the White House come back clearly and quickly even five decades later.

The White House announced Tuesday afternoon that Kettles would receive the award from President Obama on July 18.

Kettles, 86, recalls the events of May 15, 1967: flying his UH-1 helicopter time after time after time into dizzying, withering fire to save the lives of dozens of soldiers ambushed by North Vietnamese troops in the Song Tau Cau river valley; nursing the shot-up, overloaded bird out of harm’s way with the final eight soldiers who’d been mistakenly left behind.

“With complete disregard for his own safety …” the official narrative of that day reads. “Without gunship, artillery, or tactical aircraft support, the enemy concentrated all firepower on his lone aircraft … Without his courageous actions and superior flying skills, the last group of soldiers and his crew would never have made it off the battlefield.”

Kettles, born and bred and retired in Ypsilanti, Mich., remembers how he felt after he touched down nearly 50 years ago for the last time, finally safe. Unrattled and hungry.

“I just walked away from the helicopter believing that’s what war is,” Kettles told USA TODAY. “It probably matched some of the movies I’d seen as a youngster. So be it. Let’s go have dinner."

Three arrested over links to killer of French police couple
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Three people have been jugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
over their connection to the killer of a French policeman, police sources said on Tuesday.

A man who claimed allegiance to ISIS stabbed a senior French police officer to death on June 13 before he was killed in a dramatic police operation, officials have said.

The unidentified attacker killed the officer before taking his partner and their son hostage in their home in Magnanville, near Gay Paree.

He was rubbed out by members of an elite police unit after negotiations failed. The partner was found dead but the child was rescued.
The Times of Israel adds:
Investigators release a man held briefly Tuesday for his links to the jihadist killer of a police commander and his partner, saying they would not charge him at this stage.

The 41-year-old convicted jihadist had been incarcerated

in Les Mureaux, a town west of Gay Paree, where police carried out six raids looking for associates of Larossi Abballa, rubbed out by police after he killed the couple on June 13.

"There are no charges against him at this stage," the Versailles prosecutor tells AFP, adding: "The investigation continues."

The man, a Moroccan, was convicted in 2007 and nabbed

for eight years for his role in bombings claimed by Al-Qaeda that killed 33 people in Casablanca, Morocco, in 2003. He was stripped of his French nationality in a move that was upheld earlier this month.

Police officer Jean-Baptiste Salvaing and civil police employee Jessica Schneider were stabbed to death at their home in Magnanville, also west of the French capital. Abballa, 25, killed Salvaing before taking Schneider hostage and slitting her throat. Her three-year-old son who was in the house was traumatized but unharmed.

‘Suicide belt’ filled with salt and cookies triggers Brussels scare

A man with psychiatric problems who was carrying a fake suicide belt full of salt and cookies was placed in durance vile

Tuesday after he triggered a major anti-terror operation at a Brussels shopping mall, prosecutors said.

headquarters buildings.

Prosecutors said the 26-year-old man, identified only as J.B., admitted having made up his claim that he had been kidnapped and driven to the City 2 mall in central Brussels fitted with an explosives belt for remote detonation.

"After an initial inspection it was confirmed that it contained salt and [cookies]. Any threat of an kaboom has been initially ruled out," prosecutor’s front man Rym Kechiche said in a statement.

Police later searched the house of the suspect’s mother where they found the remains of the material used in the fake belt.

"The suspect gave a confession and admitted having fabricated his abduction," Kechiche said.

The suspect also confessed to having taken at random a license plate number from a car in the street that he alleged was the one in which he was driven, he added.

The vehicle’s driver was released following questioning.

Prosecutors called for the man to undergo a psychiatric exam and be formally arrested on charges of falsely threatening an attack.

"J.B. is known to the authorities for various incidents, including some linked to psychiatric problems," Kechiche said.

In one recent incident, he had contacted the police saying he had been urged to leave for Syria to join the Islamic State group.

Tuesday’s apparent threat had triggered a massive security operation involving soldiers and police sealing off the shopping center and a nearby Metro station.

Prime Minister Charles Michel called an emergency meeting of his security cabinet when the shopping mall alert was ongoing, reflecting the tensions in the country.

"The situation is for now under control. We remain vigilant," Michel said after the meeting.

The terror alert level in Brussels remained at level three out of four, Belga news agency reported.

The City 2 mall had been mentioned in Belgian media in recent days as a possible target for attacks.
Al Arabiya adds:
The incident began at about 0430 GMT this morning after a report of a man acting suspiciously near the City 2 shopping centre triggered a bomb alert, broadcaster RTL reported.

The rise of fighters’ anger
The left side of Ramadan As-Sadaoui’s head is blue. He took a bullet from an Islamic State (IS) sniper. It entered his left cheek and it is still inside his head. He can barely talk. For the moment he does not need to. His four companions in the same ward in Misrata Central Hospital, all injured fighters like him, tell the same story of what they call IS’ “dirty war”.

Baha Al-Mahrog is a member of Fursan Janzour brigade. He was injured on 16 June by a suicide car bomb in Zaafran roundabout, the west entrance of Sirte. “I have fragments in my right pelvis,” he says. “The doctors told me it’s serious. I haven’t had surgery yet because the doctors fear I’ve an infection.” Baha Al-Mahrog cannot recall much about what happened. He just remembers a truck driving fast from trees to the sand block which protects the fighters at around 2 am that day. “The previous night, a car came the same way but we managed to stop it,” he told the Libya Herald.

Like many of his brothers in arms, Baha al-Mahrog fought during the battle of Sirte in 2011 against Qaddafi’s forces. “This war is far more difficult because IS uses dirty methods like suicide car bombs or snipers, and they will fight until they die.”

Since the beginning of Bunyan Marsous operation, not counting today’s massive toll, 170 fighters have been killed and more than 700 injured.

“In war, the worst are head injuries and amputation cases which are exactly the kind of injuries caused by snipers and suicide car attacks”, said Said al-Mihishi, who is both a doctor and a fighter.

Misrata Central Hospital would not allow journalists to take photos partly because of the horrific injuries of the wounded but also because of the poor conditions it is having to operate under.

“We have a shortage of everything – anesthetic drugs, antibiotics, and much more,” Dr Mohamed Al-Ajnaf said. “We suffer as well from a lack of nurses. We have one nurse for 30 patients in the surgery unit”.

Sixty percent of the nurses, mainly from Philippines, had left Libya, he noted. A programme has been launched among the students to enroll 60 of them as nurses.

The hospital itself is too small to treat all the patients. A lobby has been closed off to provide more bed space. Only the emergency building is open because the other buildings are unfinished; the construction company left in 2011.

Abdelaziz Issa, the spokesperson of the hospital, prefers to focus on the good points. “Serraj’s government promised us LD 3 million. So far we’ve had LD 1 million and we’ve received two containers of supplies out of three provided by the [National] Salvation Government [of Khalifa Ghwell]. Both authorities want to show they’re helping in the fight against IS. We take everything.”

In the field hospital, 13 kilometres west of Sirte, the working conditions are worse. “We have 12 doctors but most of them are actually student doctors. We lost a lot of equipment [including a fully-equipped truck for surgeries] when IS bombed the field hospital’s previous location on 12 June,” Dr Mustafa Shkorfo expained. Worse, there were not enough medical supplies to prevent haemorrhaging which meant that most of the fighters developed infections in the field hospital while waiting to be taken to Misrata.

Complaints from fighters about the situation are growing.

“My brother needs treatment abroad but instead he has been waiting in this room for a week. No one helps us,” complains Omar, Ramadan As-Sadaoui’s brother.

Angry fighters went last week to a local hotel where the municipal council was meeting meet to ask for more help. The tension was reportedly very high.

“This war has nothing to do with the revolution in 2011. The fighters now are more scared because IS will stay until they die. They don’t care,” said Abdullah Sliman, another of the wounded in the same ward as Ramadan As-Sadoui. He then adds: “For myself, I will go back and fight. I am not scared. »

Sartaj: Afghanistan should offer Taliban something they can’t gain on battlefield
Something like surrender?
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Pak foreign affairs adviser Sartaj PrunefaceAziz
...Adviser to Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on National Security and Foreign Affairs, who believes in good jihadis and bad jihadis as a matter of national policy...
has said the Afghan government should offer Taliban something they cannot gain in battlefield in a bid to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Sartaj further added "We can only bring the Taliban on the table using our influence, but ultimately Afghanistan has to talk with them. They (Afghan government) should strengthen their position on ground and secondly they should offer them (Taliban) something which they cannot gain on battlefield and lastly, the process should be consistent."

This is not the first time Sartaj has admitted regarding Pakistain’s influence on Afghan bad boy groups including the Taliban group.

Earlier, Sartaj said the Pak government could use certain leverages to encourage the Taliban group to participate in direct peace talks with the Afghan government, including some facilities the Taliban leadership uses in Pakistain such hospitals.

In an interview with the state-owned PTV, Mr Sartaj however said "Most of the groups fighting in Afghanistan are fighting from within but the perception persists that Pakistain should take action against them."

He also claimed credit for the formation of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group and said Pakistain had succeeded in forming the Quadrilateral Coordination Group at the last Heart of Asia Conference and the group formed a good mechanism.

"Our viewpoint was that you (NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...
and Isaf) have been fighting for the last 15 years but could not bring peace, now dialogue is the only option for if Taliban cannot occupy Afghanistan they can continue this fight for years."

This comes as the Afghan officials have long been criticizing Pakistain for allowing the Afghan anti-government armed bad boy groups including the Taliban and Haqqani terrorist network to use its soil to plan and coordinate attacks in Afghanistan.

The Afghan officials insist that the Taliban group and Haqqani network leaderships are based in Quetta and Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
cities of Pakistain as they enjoy the facilities provided by certain elements in Pakistain to use the sanctuaries provided to act openly and coordinate attacks in Afghanistan.

Hezb-e-Islami issues new impossible-to-meet demands for peace agreement
Since the best it would ever be is a hudna, and those can be no longer than ten years...
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Hezb-e-Islami party led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
has reportedly issued new impossible-to-meet demands to sign a peace agreement with the Afghan government.

An official privy to the development has told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that the new demands include cancellation of pacts with the United States, a timetable for the withdrawal of foreign troops and that it be signed by a new government.

A member of Hezb-e-Islami negotiating team has said the demands were made in a letter to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
Earlier, Hekmatyar said he has changed his conditions for grinding of the peace processor with the Afghan government by stepping back from his demands for the complete withdrawal of foreign forces.

Hekmatyar was originally demanding the complete withdrawal of the foreign forces from Afghanistan before officials talks begun between his party and the Afghan government.

This comes as the Afghan government has signed the draft peace agreement with Hezb-e-Islami in mid-May amid hopes that the agreement would be signed by Hekmatyar in the near future.

Deputy Chief Executive Mohammad Khan said last month that the party has agreed to have no links with the anti-government armed bad boy groups, insisting that Hekmatyar’s only demand is to remove his name from the international blacklist.

ISIS in Afghanistan claims attacks on Canadian Embassy guards in Kabul
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The loyalists of the Islamic State

of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in Afghanistan have grabbed credit behind a deadly attack on the Canadian Embassy security guards in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
The sympathizers of the terrorist group in Afghanistan have claimed that the attack was carried out by a suicide bombeق whom they have identified as Irfanullah Ahmad.

The loyalists of the terror group claim that a group of Nepalese guards working for a foreign embassy were targeted in the attack.

In the meantime, the Taliban group in Afghanistan has claimed that the attack was carried out by the fighers of the Taliban group.

Taliban group front man Zabiullah Mujahid claimed that over 20 people were killed or maimed in the attack.

At least 14 Nepalese security guards were killed after a jacket wallah targeted their vehicle in the 9th police district of Kabul city earlier this morning.

The Canadian Embassy in Kabul confirmed the attack on the employees of security company working for the Embassy in Kabul.

The attack was carried out around 6:00 am local time in Benayi area of the city in the 9th police district of Kabul.

The claim by ISIS loyalists which could not be verified indecently comes as they attempt to expand foothold in the country despite ongoing operations by the Afghan and US forces against the group in the country.

Police suspect kidnapping of SHC CJ’s son bargaining chip for militants’ release
[DAWN] Police suspect that Advocate Awais Ali Shah, kidnapped son of Sindh High Court Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, will be used as a ’bargaining chip’ to ensure release of some captured bully boys.

"So far it is kidnapping, and my professional assessment is that it is not for ransom," Sindh police chief Allah Dino Khawaja told Rooters.

Security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
because they were not authorised to speak to the media, said they suspected the kidnappers would offer to free Shah in return for the release of captured bully boys.

The Rangers nabbed
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian rebels open aid corridor to Manbij
[ARA News] QAMISHLO – The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Tuesday opened a humanitarian corridor between the ISIS-held city of Manbij and its countryside, in a bid to help civilians evacuate the war-torn city.

Backed by the US-led coalition’s air cover, the SDF recaptured the entire countryside of Manbij from ISIS militants subsequent to heavy fighting. More than 105 villages were liberated since the SDF launched a battle for Manbij on 31 May, 2016. However, the group is still in control of the city of Manbij and has been using civilians as human shields in the fighting against the SDF.

“After capturing western parts of the city, our forces have opened a humanitarian corridor between the city and its liberated countryside in order to assist civilians to evacuate the city so that we can continue with our operations against ISIS terrorists inside Manbij city,” SDF officer Habun Osman told ARA News.

Hundreds of civilians were able to escape the besieged city of Manbij, using the corridor opened by the SDF west of the city.

“The safety of civilians is a top priority for us at the moment, otherwise we would have already liberated the entire Manbij border pocket from ISIS,” the SDF official said. “So, now we are trying to rescue the stranded civilians and prevent the terror group from using them as human shields during the clashes. Then we’ll attack ISIS in its final stronghold in Manbij downtown.”

The 98-kilometer-long border area in Aleppo’s countryside is called the Manbij pocket, and is used by the Islamic State group (ISIS) to transport foreign fighters from Turkey to Syria, and to smuggle arm supplies to the de-facto ISIS capital of Raqqa, in northeastern Syria. Also, the extremist group has used the Manbij pocket to send trained jihadis abroad to conduct terrorist attacks. Closing it down would make Europe and America safer, US and Kurdish officials have said.

Bangladesh
Robber killed in gunfight
[Dhaka Tribune] A robber was killed and three police personnel were also injured
...a splinter, a stubbed toe, and a blister on a trigger finger...
in a shootout between his cohorts and police at Rasulpur village in Sarail upazila of the district early yesterday.

The dear departed was Abdus Sattar, 32, a resident of Rasulpur-Rifiujipara village of the upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station Rupok Kumar Saha said police tossed in the slammer
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
Sattar from his house in Rifiujipara village on Monday evening.

Based on his information, a team of police along with Sattar conducted a drive in Rasulpur graveyard area to recover arms at about 1.15 am.
Was the graveyard next to a banana grove?
Spider senses tingling at the proximity of the law enforcers, associates of Sattar shot up them. In retaliation, the law enforcers also opened fire leading to a shootout for sometimes.
It took just long enough for those two bullets, one each behind each ear for thoroughness. Longer would have been wasteful.
Sattar was caught in line of the fire and was struck down in his prime while his associates managed to flee the scene.
... as though they had never been...

Did Sattar make it as far as the Dhaka Medical Center Trauma Unit door or did he go straight to Dr. Quincy?
Three coppers including a sub inspector were also injured during the shootout.
Injuries covered at the top of the story, and all have recovered by now.
Sattar was wanted in twelve systems eight cases including for robbery, the OC added.
And so, dear Reader, a good time was had by all, excepting the former miscreant, of course.

Arabia
50 Saudis detained over 'un-Islamic' necklaces, haircuts
[DAWN] Fifty young men have been jugged
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
for haircuts, necklaces and other adornments considered un-Islamic.

The suspects were detained during a Ramazan crackdown in Makkah, according to Saudi news website Sabq.

"They were handed over to the department of criminal investigations," said Sabq, which accompanied Sherlocks during their visits to shopping areas in the city.

Officers noticed "a number of offences like strange haircuts, chains that are hung upon the chest or arms, head wraps and short clothes and immodest ones ─ for both men and women", reported Sabq, which is close to the authorities.

The law enforcement team, which included women, advised citizens against "habits and traditions that are against religious teachings".

Saudi Arabia, an absolute Islamic monarchy, is a highly conservative country.

Women dress from head to toe in black and are not allowed to drive or mingle with unrelated men.

But more than half of Saudi citizens are under the age of 25, an Internet-savvy generation that spends much of its life online away from official strictures.

Iraq
U.S. Commander Says Iraqi Forces Retook Third Of Fallujah
[Iraq Sun] A U.S. military commander in Baghdad says Iraqi forces have cleared only a third of Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
contradicting a claim by Iraq's government that it had liberated the city from the krazed killer Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group.

Colonel Christopher Garver, front man for the U.S.-led coalition against IS, said on June 21 that a third of Fallujah had been "cleared" of bully boys.

Most of the cleared terrain is in the south of the city and "clearing operations continue outward from the city center," Garver added.

Iraqi forces pushed into the center of Fallujah on June 17, retaking a government complex.

Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said security forces had retaken most of Fallujah, and that remaining IS pockets would be "cleaned out within hours."

But there have been persistent festivities between Iraqi forces and IS fighters holed up in neighborhoods along the city's northern edge.

#1  Progress is probably slowed by the Shia Iraqi forces making sure that they "cleanse" all inhabitants of Sunni Fallujah, as they clear the city.

It must be hell to be a Sunni in Iraq. Your choice is between getting brutalized by ISIS, or killed by your Shia countrymen.
