Gunmen Seize Hostages at Bangladesh Restaurant and Detonate Explosives
Gunmen detonated explosives and took a number of people hostage at a restaurant in Dhaka, Bangladesh, setting off a bloody standoff with the police on Friday night in the capital's diplomatic zone.

Witnesses took to Twitter to report hearing gunfire, and posted images of armed paramilitary officers surrounding the restaurant, the Holey Artisan Bakery, which is said to be popular with expatriates, diplomats and middle-class families. It is in the city's Gulshan neighborhood.
From another news source: “Worker who escaped reported gunmen shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ as they fired."

Well that settles it -- we'll never know the gunmen's motivation, will we. It'll be a mystery forever...

Frenchman stabbed by couple shouting 'Allahu Akbar'
[BBC] Police are investigating after a French charity worker said he was attacked with a knife and an axe by a couple who shouted "Allahu Akbar".

The incident happened at a soup kitchen in Montreuil, east of Paris.

The man said he was able to dodge the axe but was stabbed in the stomach, according to a prosecutors statement.

His condition is not said to be serious.
Many of the French aren't serious about this, why should he be?
France remains under a state of emergency since last November's attacks claimed by Islamist militants.

The victim told investigators the assailants shouted "Allahu Akbar", meaning "God is greatest", and called him an "infidel dog" before running away.

He is director at Restos du Coeur, a charity which gives food packages and hot meals to the needy.
What odds that this took place near a migrant "jungle", and that the attackers were migrants, dear Reader? What odds the attackers didn't take some food before they fled?
According to Reuters, the investigation is being carried out by criminal police rather than anti-terrorism units.

Austria presidential poll result overturned
Austria's highest court has annulled the result of the presidential election narrowly lost by the candidate of the far-right Freedom Party.

The party had challenged the result, saying that postal votes had been improperly handled.
The Freedom Party candidate, Norbert Hofer, lost the election to the former leader of the Greens, Alexander Van der Bellen, by less than a percentage point.

The election will now be re-run.

Announcing the decision, Gerhard Holzinger, head of the Constitutional Court, said: "The challenge brought by Freedom Party leader Heinz-Christian Strache against the 22 May election... has been upheld."

In two weeks of hearings, lawyers for the Freedom Party argued that postal ballots were illegally handled in 94 out of 117 districts. It alleged that thousands of votes were opened earlier than permitted under election rules and some were counted by people unauthorised to do so.
And sometimes counted twice, or three times...
The party also claimed to have evidence that some under-16s and foreigners had been allowed to vote.
How 'bout the cemeteries?
If elected, Mr Hofer will become the first far-right head of state of an EU country. His party has based its election campaigns around concern over immigration and falling living standards for the less well-off.

After Britain voted to leave the EU, Mr Hofer said he favoured holding a similar referendum in Austria if the bloc failed to stop centralisation and carry out reforms "within a year".

Last Sunday, he told the Oesterreich newspaper (in German): "If [the EU] evolves in the wrong direction, then in my opinion the time has come to ask the Austrians if they still want to be part of it."

His opponent, Mr Van der Bellen, is strongly pro-EU and has spoken of his dream for a border-free "United States of Europe".
Which is why his fellow-travelers at the election commission carried him over the line...
Following the court's order to re-run the vote, President Heinz Fischer will be replaced on a temporary basis by three parliamentary officials, including Mr Hofer. The new election is expected to be held in September or October.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Obama Administration Wants to Keep Clinton Foundation Emails Hidden Until Late 2018
[Breitbart] The Obama Administration is already infamous for slow-walking information requests, causing investigations to drag out for years, and then complaining loudly about how long the investigations are taking! But they’ve really outdone themselves this time.

The Justice Department has filed a motion in court, on behalf of the State Department, seeking to keep a vast trove of correspondence between Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s aides, and the notorious Clinton Foundation, hidden from voters’ eyes for 27 months... in other words, until October 2018, about halfway through President Hillary Clinton’s prospective first term.

The story laid out by the Daily Caller grows more outrageous with each paragraph. For starters, we learn that four senior Clinton aides -- Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Michael Fuchs, Ambassador-At-Large Melanne Verveer, Chief of Staff Cheryl Mills, and Deputy Chief of Staff Huma Abedin -- were sending a lot of correspondence to the Clinton Foundation. The original tally of six thousand emails turned out to be low -- very, very low. The State Department said the total has swelled to 34,116 potentially responsive documents.
Skipping down to the Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport Presidential thank you session.
It's probably a total coincidence that Bill Clinton just caused a stir by holding a mysterious private meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch, creating "optics" that made even some liberals queasy.

Lynch insists all they talked about was "grandchildren, golf, and their respective travels."
I've often had -- by which I mean never had -- conversations with grandchildren, golf and travel with the spouse of a person under investigation by the FBI, on a private jet, sitting on the tarmac where it's hard to bug. Sure. Happens to all of us...
We can take her word that they didn't talk about DOJ lawyers helping to shield Clinton Foundation documents from the public for 27 months, or with the depositions Clinton aides are currently giving about Hillary Clinton's email server in another FOIA suit, right?

Also on Thursday, the White House published a fact sheet called "New Steps Toward Ensuring Openness and Transparency in Government." No, really, they did.

Former Attorney General Michael Mukasey: Lynch Should Recuse Herself From Hillary Email Investigation
[Breitbart] Thursday on Fox News Channel’s "The Kelly File," former U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey reacted to a report that current U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch had met with former President Bill Clinton while his wife, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, was under investigation for her use of a private email server while secretary of state.

Mukasey called the meeting a mistake and dismissed the claim it was a chance encounter.

"I think it was a mistake," Mukasey said. "People make mistakes all the time. It was a mistake because you don’t take a meeting with the spouse of somebody who was the subject of an investigation by your department. It’s not that that’s a written rule any more than it’s a written rule that a surgeon washes his hands before he operates.
I strongly suspect that each hospital has not only a written rule that everyone going into a room where surgery will take place not only has a written rule that they scrub, but that the rules explicitly decree minimum scrub time, permissable cleansers, and physical area to be scrubbed; a printout of this is probably posted over each sink, as protection against being sued. After all, every American hospital room I've been in over the past several decades has a small sink with soap or at least a container of alcohol gel just inside the door, with a sign reminding all who enter to sanitize hands before approaching the patient.
There are some things that are so elementary that you don’t have to have a written rule to have them in effect."

"Megyn, the attorney general is protected by a security detail of FBI agents," Mukasey said. "I assume she was traveling with staff since she was on government business. The president is protected by a detail of Secret Service agents. They don’t work for the same department. They don’t encounter each other casually. That happens by design and I think it was actually not her fault. It was the president’s design. From what I read in the accounts, he was the one that pushed it forward."

He went on to add it was cause for Lynch to recuse herself completely from the Clinton email investigation.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Navy commander surrendered to Iran to protect Obama's nuclear deal
[Wash Times] The Navy commander in charge of a pair of patrol boats captured by Iranian forces in January opted to surrender rather than fight back, citing later fears that a confrontation could endanger the Obama administration’s efforts to lock in a deal with Tehran on its nuclear program.

In an interview with investigators looking into the January incident, the commander said he surrendered the vessels after calculating that his sailors would not be in danger because Iran "wants this nuke deal to go through."

The interview was one of several stunning revelations in the often scathing 170-page report compiled by Navy investigators, chronicling the chain of events that led to the apprehension and detention of the 10 American sailors by the Iranian military after a pair of U.S. patrol boats drifted into the country’s sovereign waters in the Persian Gulf.

The incident, which played out as President Obama was preparing his State of the Union address, proved deeply embarrassing to the U.S. military and roiled diplomatic relations between Tehran and Washington as they were trying to implement key measures in the deal to curb Iran’s suspect nuclear programs.

Adm. John Richardson, chief of naval operations, said Thursday that the mishandling of the incident resulted from "the accumulation of a number of small problems" created by the U.S. sailors who strayed into Iranian waters all the way up to the senior commanders who led the Navy squadron and task force under which the unit served.

Is Russia Preparing to Release Hillary's Emails?
U.S. intelligence agencies are convinced that Russian hackers who may be operating under orders from Vladimir Putin are preparing to release thousands of emails stolen from Hillary Clinton's private server.
Might be the only way we ever see them...
A possible Russian motive for making public all the emails would be to undermine any Justice Department influence in the ongoing FBI investigation of the private email server, an investigation said by FBI sources to have expanded into whether the server was used improperly to boost the fortunes of the Clinton Foundation.
Putin is just another male chauvinist pig?
I recommend Bill Clinton speak to Loretta Lynch privately about the potential impacts of such a move by Vlad.

ISIS Terrorists Used Obama's ‘Fast and Furious' Gun During Paris Attack!
[Judicial Watch] One of the guns used in the November 13, 2015 Paris terrorist attacks came from Phoenix, Arizona where the Obama administration allowed criminals to buy thousands of weapons illegally in a deadly and futile "gun-walking" operation known as "Fast and Furious."

A Report of Investigation (ROI) filed by a case agent in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF) tracked the gun used in the Paris attacks to a Phoenix gun owner who sold it illegally, "off book," Judicial Watch's law enforcement sources confirm. Federal agents tracing the firearm also found the Phoenix gun owner to be in possession of an unregistered fully automatic weapon, according to law enforcement officials with firsthand knowledge of the investigation.

The investigative follow up of the Paris weapon consisted of tracking a paper trail using a 4473 form, which documents a gun's ownership history by, among other things, using serial numbers. The Phoenix gun owner that the weapon was traced back to was found to have at least two federal firearms violations--for selling one weapon illegally and possessing an unregistered automatic--but no enforcement or prosecutorial action was taken against the individual. Instead, ATF leaders went out of their way to keep the information under the radar and ensure that the gun owner's identity was "kept quiet," according to law enforcement sources involved with the case. "Agents were told, in the process of taking the fully auto, not to anger the seller to prevent him from going public," a veteran law enforcement official told Judicial Watch.

It’s not clear if the agency, which is responsible for cracking down on the illegal use and trafficking of firearms, did this because the individual was involved in the Fast and Furious gun-running scheme. An ATF spokesman, Corey Ray, at the agency’s Washington D.C. headquarters told Judicial Watch that "no firearms used in the Paris attacks have been traced" by the agency. When asked about the ROI report linking the weapon used in Paris to Phoenix, Ray said "I'm not familiar with the report you're referencing." Judicial Watch also tried contacting the Phoenix ATF office, but multiple calls were not returned.

This is worse than a witch-hunt -- it's an anti-religious Inquisition
It's Dangerous to Believe: Religious Freedom and Its Enemies

by Mary Eberstadt

Harper, 158 pages, $25.99

Members of traditional religions became moral outlaws in the United States once equal rights for sexual preference and gender choice were enshrined in regulation and law. To believe that homosexual relations are sinful, as does biblical religion, defines the believer as a bigot in the view of liberal opinion, which is backed by the federal regulatory apparatus and the regulators of most American states, as well as by most of the judicial system.

As Mary Eberstadt reports, expressions of religious belief that society considered innocuous and normal until quite recently are now grounds for dismissal from jobs, denial of employment, and boycotts by the media. Devout Christians believe they must choose between their faith and job security, and they commonly conceal their faith in the workplace to avert discrimination. (Muslims are exempt because liberals consider them a threatened minority and make allowances for their misogyny and gay-bashing.)
Plus the fact that Muslims are violent and leftards are, first and foremost, cowards
Actions or speech (quoting a Bible verse or leaving a religious symbol in plain view) elicit persecution. In some cases, evidence of past incorrect opinion is sufficient: The CEO of the software firm Mozilla, Brendan Eich, was hounded from his post in 2014 for a $1,000 contribution to a 2008 California referendum campaign against gay marriage, evidence of a position he shared at the time with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

...Eberstadt calls the persecution of traditional religion a "witch-hunt"--a critical error. A witch-hunt is a search for malefactors who pretend to be good people but really are intent on doing evil. There is a witch-hunt going on today, namely the search for secret racists at American universities. The witch-hunters pillory teachers and administrators who claim to hold politically correct views but allegedly betray their secret racism through wicked actions, for instance by correcting bad grammar in minority students’ term papers. Loyal liberals who commit no aggressions are said to be guilty of micro-aggressions.

By contrast, the purge of traditional Christians and Jews is a heretic hunt, an Inquisition, whose objective is to isolate and punish individuals who actually profess opinions contrary to the prevailing orthodoxy. There can be some overlap between an Inquisition and a witch-hunt, to be sure. But today’s liberal Inquisitors are not searching for individuals secretly in communion with God--yet.

...This is a critical distinction. Witch-hunters eventually discover that burning a few old hags does not prevent cows’ milk from souring. Inquisitions, by contrast, usually succeed: The Catholic Church succeeded in stamping out broadly held heresies, as in the Albigensian Crusade of 1220-1229, which destroyed between 200,000 and 1,000,000 inhabitants of Cathar-controlled towns in Southern France. In many cases a town’s entire population was killed, just to make sure. For its part, the Spanish Inquisition eliminated all the Jews, Muslims, and Protestants, although it sometimes drove heretical opinions underground, with baleful consequences for the Catholic faith.

...Because Eberstadt confuses the present persecution with mere witch-hunting, she hopes that the witch-hunters will realize their error and do the decent thing. She compares the persecution of Christians to Senator Joseph McCarthy’s anti-Communist campaign of the late 1940s and early 1950s.

...The comparison is misguided. McCarthy was not attacking individuals who professed Marxist sympathies, but individuals who concealed their Marxist sympathies while serving as high-ranking military officers and officials of the Eisenhower administration. He was a witch-hunter drunk on his own power (as well as drunk in the usual sense of the term). He had to be humiliated, and he was.

McCarthy claimed to know of secret Communist agents in high Establishment positions. And unlike in the Salem of the witch trials, in Eisenhower’s America there were in fact "witches" to be hunted--that is, hundreds of secret Russian agents or agents-of-influence. American intelligence decoded more than 3,000 covert messages to and from the Soviet embassy in Washington after 1943, in whichhundreds of Americans were mentioned, some of whom later were proven to be spies. The U.S. government couldn’t reveal its covert sources, so it encouraged "witch-hunts" to flush out suspected traitors. McCarthy got out of control. But by the time the U.S. Senate passed a motion of censure against the rogue Wisconsin Senator, in December 1954, the problem largely had been eliminated.

In a similar way, the liberal establishment will eventually conclude that its witch-hunt--its persecution of academic liberals--has gone too far. It will decide that correcting grammar in a doctoral dissertation submitted by a minority student is not a firing offense. Witch-hunts respond to an observed problem (spoiled cows’ milk, a plague, failed crops, and so forth). I have suggested previously that the academic witch-hunters are responding to a catastrophic outcome among minority students: "Little more than a third of black male college students obtain a bachelor’s degree (ideally a four-year program) after six years of university attendance. The college entrance rate is identical for white and black high school graduates at about 70%, but graduate rates diverge. Sixty percent of white male students graduate within six years, almost double the proportion of black males." That is not the fault of liberal academics who correct the grammar in black students’ term papers, and eventually the liberal establishment will call off the witch-hunt.

...The liberals fear that Christian America will rise up and avenge itself against their tyranny. They will keep coming after you.

Your alternative is to counterattack.

Ridicule your enemies. Expose their intellectual and moral bankruptcy. Assert the superiority of your own intellectual tradition. Single out some of the "New Atheists" and attack their intellectual pretensions. Target individuals; liberals are brave in a mob but cowards in a corner.

#1  When people have no real understanding of history (as the Marxist/Socialist) they forget the bloody couple hundred years of religious wars that hammered Western Civilization. Just look at the ME today with Sunni vs Shiite. There was a very very good reason to put religious freedom at number 1 on the Bill of Rights. If this thing breaks, a lot of bloody payback is going to be on the venue.

New Federal Rule Strikes Another Devastating Blow Against Coal Industry
[Daily Caller] The federal government issued a new rule Thursday increasing the cost energy producers must pay to extract coal, oil, and gas leased on public land, in a move bound to roil energy markets and raise fears the Obama administration has struck another blow against the coal industry.

The Department of the Interior changed the rules governing royalty rates that oil and coal companies must pay to the federal government to extract gas and coal from public lands. The regulation essentially uses the gross proceeds from a sell, not a percentage, to determine the royalty rates energy producers must pay to use public lands to extract oil and coal. There will be modest reductions taken into account, based on transportation and processing costs.

Up until now, royalty rates did not take into account the supposedly high costs associated with climate change, environmentalist group Friends of the Earth wrote in a press statement announcing the rule change.

The new rule essentially seeks to wring money out of energy providers who use public lands to extract oil and coal, as well as natural gas. Energy analysts also fear a royalty tax would stunt oil and coal production.

#10  According to recent trade articles that despite all the admin's anti-coal crap, coal by rail shipments surged the last few weeks. Reason seems to be the hot weather and increased demand for electricity. Utilities are going where fuel is cheaper and natural gas prices have risen so coal wins. And while the existing coal plants are still legal and comply with all the rules, cost is going to drive fuel selection.

Was Bill Clinton Plea Bargaining With The Attorney General ?
[Daily Caller] When Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch met privately Monday in her jet in Phoenix, Arizona, some speculate he may have been pleading for his wife who is under investigation by the FBI and the Department of Justice. But the former president may also have been pleading for himself, according to a former federal prosecutor.

While political observers are focused on former Secretary of State and all-but-certain Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, her husband also has been a principal player behind the scenes at the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation.

Former U.S. Attorney Joseph DiGenova told the Daily Caller News Foundation the former President "is at least a witness in two criminal investigations, probably a subject in two criminal investigations. He is a person of interest officially to the Department of Justice," he said flatly.

ISIS routs Pentagon-backed Syrian rebels in fresh setback for U.S. strategy
[WP] IRBIL, Iraq -- The U.S. military’s efforts to confront the Islamic State in Syria suffered another setback Wednesday after the militants routed the only group to have survived intact an ill-fated Pentagon program to train and equip moderate rebels last year.

The U.S.-backed New Syrian Army said it was forced to withdraw its forces to its base at Tanf near the Jordanian border after launching what appears to have been a poorly conceived offensive aimed at capturing the strategically important eastern Syrian town of Abu Kamal on the Syrian-Iraqi border.

Islamic State claims published by its Amaq news agency that its fighters had killed 40 members of the group and captured 15 could not be independently confirmed and appeared to be exaggerated. Islamic State social media accounts posted photographs and videos showing brutalized bodies, the beheading of one fighter and small quantities of captured, U.S.- supplied weaponry.
Slipping down to the bottom line:
Unless the New Syrian Army can regroup soon and launch another offensive, “they will be finished,” said Michael Horowitz, a senior analyst at the Levantine Group security consultancy. And if it is, he said, U.S. strategy will become even more reliant on Syria’s Kurds, who have proved to be an effective fighting force but are regarded with deep distrust by most of the Syrian Arabs living in areas still controlled by the Islamic State.
But never mind the regime cock-up, friendly the KIA or the huge cache of weapons captured. Please direct your attention at Loretta Lynch and the Bill Clinton airport meeting.

According to sources, the encounter took place after security forces launched a pre-dawn search operation for the arrest of people having links with Wednesday’s killing of four Frontier Corps

The decision for the search operation was taken at a late-night meeting of civil and military officials. Presided over by Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, the meeting took serious notice of the killing of four FC personnel and decided to take strict action against elements involved in the attack.

Security forces raided various places for the arrest of people involved in recent killings of security personnel.

Spokesperson for Frontier Corps Khan Wasey claimed that the three snuffies killed in the encounter belonged to the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi

He said the gunbattle between the snuffies and security forces continued for about an hour.

The spokesperson said that the three snuffies allegedly helped those who attacked security personnel in Quetta.

"The search operation will continue against Death Eaters involved in attacks on security personnel," Mr Wasey said.

Security was put on high alert in the scenic provincial capital with deployment of more security personnel and increase in patrolling in and around Quetta.

[FinancialPost] As the world marks the first week anniversary of last Thursday’s Brexit vote, it’s time for a review of the carnage -- the record-setting demolition of trillions in market value, the Lehman Brothers-like tipping point to financial meltdown, the currency devaluations, the portents of recession and global economic crises -- all the stuff that didn’t happen.

#3  For the smart high rollers it's a buying opportunity. The consensus I'm seeing is that this is a dip rather than a crash, because until Brexit agreements are reached nothing will change. Henry Kissinger wrote the other day that PM Cameron called the Brxit referendum to shut up the Leave segment of his coalition, with most of those on both sides expecting it to be soundly trounced; so it aeems to me quite possible action toward leaving will be slow and reluctant.

What that will do to politicsl careers on the right is no doubt being pondered at the moment. Labour, in the meantime, is becoming even more blatantly antisemitic.

China says U.S. 'Great Wall' remark shows misunderstanding of history
China on Thursday suggested the U.S. defense secretary brush up on his history after urging Beijing not to build a "Great Wall of self-isolation", saying the Great Wall was build to keep out invaders not as a hindrance to contact.

U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter made the remarks at a security dialogue in Singapore this month..."Those who have studied Chinese history all know that it [the Great Wall] was defensive," [Chinese Defence Ministry spokesman ] Wu told a regular monthly news briefing. "It was to keep out the cruel oppression of invaders."
Current US political leaders seem to have a blind spot regarding protection against invasion.

And besides, Trump said we'd put large glorious doors in the wall.

I like the great wall as a metaphor because it's a nice looking tourist landmark rather than miles of hideous chain-link fence through the desert scrub. If you're gonna build it, build it with style.

Having said that, if we hammer companies that hire illegals we'll find the illegals self-deport and a wall won't be needed.

High level imperial eunuchs had better things to spend public money on. The seizure comes as an anti-IS force comprising Kurdish and Syrian Arab fighters hones in on the northern city of Manbij, an important waypoint between the Turkish border and Raqqa, the jihadists’ de facto capital.

Colonel Chris Garver, a front man for the US-led anti-IS campaign, says Syrian Arab fighters were establishing "footholds" on the southern and western edges of Manbij, and had seized entrances to an intricate jihadist tunnel complex.

They also seized more than 10,000 documents from the outlying edges, including textbooks, propaganda posters, cellphones, laptops, maps and digital storage devices, Garver tells news hounds.

"Exploitation of this information is ongoing to better understand Daesh [Islamic State] networks and techniques, including the systems to manage the flow of imported muscle into Syria and Iraq," he adds, using an Arabic abbreviation for the IS group.

Pakistan Funds Daesh/Taliban Against Afghanistan, Say Experts
[ToloNews] Pakistain continues to pursue its hostile policies towards Afghanistan by supporting Death Eater groups in their war efforts against the country, a number of Afghan political commentators said on Thursday.

They claimed that Pakistain had now mobilized the Taliban under the guise of Daesh [Islamic State]. Other countries were also coordinating with Pakistain in funding Death Eater groups such as Daesh [Islamic State].

"If there was a will to do it, we would be able to eliminate Daesh [Islamic State] in Syria and Afghanistan. I again urge that we develop the determination to defeat the Death Eaters," military expert Ajmal Sias said.

According to political experts, turbans who claim to be Daesh [Islamic State] fighters, were in-fact the Talibs who have changed their flag and operate as Daesh [Islamic State]. They receive financial and technical and military cooperation from Pakistain to destabilize Afghanistan, it is said.

Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, leader of the Hizb-e-Islami has said there are people who were neglecting the war against Daesh [Islamic State].

Experts argue that Daesh [Islamic State] fighters in Afghanistan have no link with the Daesh [Islamic State] group which operates in Iraq and Syria under the command of His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

They add that Pakistain, by ignoring international pressure, created Daesh [Islamic State] to mislead the world.

The expert views come a day after President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. "We told Pakistain that they were using terrorism against our country," Atmar said.

"If the international community tells Pakistain that it does not want something want Daesh [Islamic State] in Afghanistan, the job will be done. For that we need common purpose," former Afghan ambassador to Britannia Ahmad Wali Massoud said.

Last year, for the first time, rumors surfaced about the presence of Daesh [Islamic State] fighters in Afghanistan.

province. Over the passage of time, Daesh [Islamic State] has extended operations in eastern regions. In its latest action, Daesh [Islamic State] fighters attacked civilian and military areas in Kot district of Nangarhar province.

Daesh [Islamic State] killed and maimed dozens of civilians during their offensive launched in Kot district. The attack has raised great alarm among the residents over the presence of the group in their area.

It is believed that Daesh [Islamic State] is attempting to infiltrate other central Asian counties through Afghanistan and to get control over the drug smuggling.
From an earlier Tolo article quoting Afghan National Security advisor Mohammed Hanif Atmar:
"Most of the Daesh [Islamic State] faceless myrmidons come from Pakistain and they have Pak ID cards. And they receive aid from central Asia and Gulf states, but Afghan forces are ready to fight them," Atmar said.

Egypt president calls for reforms to counter extremists
[IsraelTimes] Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, who came to power after a bloody crackdown on political Islamists, calls on Wednesday for religious reforms to counter holy warriors in a speech to Muslim holy mans.

Sissi has often warned that Islamist extremism presents a vital threat to the region, which he suggested lags in development and women’s rights.

Not enough work, he adds, has been done to confront the ideology of holy warriors who have roiled the region and are waging a bloody insurgency in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

"We are on a mission, during one of the most difficult periods not only for Egypt, but for Egypt and all Arab and Muslim states," Sisi says in the televised speech.

"Are we the most knowledgeable of nations?" he asks, referring to Muslim countries. "Are we the most tolerant nation? Are we the nation that most respects women?"

"If you found that the flaw was only in Egypt, we’d say OK. But I wonder, in how many of these 50 (Muslim) countries is this situation present?" he asks.

Early Islamic scholars, he says, confronted sayings and traditions wrongly attributed to the Muslim prophet Mohammed. Islamic law is partly based on Mohammed’s sayings that are deemed authentic.

"We can perform the same role, but regarding other things," Sisi says, without elaborating.

"I fear that we have not until now found the real path to confronting fanaticism and extremism: look at the map of extremism in the world," he adds.

Jordanian officials sold CIA-supplied weapons — report
[IsraelTimes] Millions of dollars in military equipment for Syrian rebels said stolen, traded on black market

Jordanian intelligence officials stole millions of dollars of weapons that the CIA and Soddy Arabia

had supplied for Syrian rebels, then sold them on the black market, The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
and al-Jazeera reported.

The military equipment had been shipped into Jordan as part of the Central Intelligence Agency’s secret program to train and equip moderate Syrian rebels to fight troops loyal to Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
Citing unnamed American and Jordanian officials, the Times and al-Jazeera reported Sunday that some of these weapons were used in a November shooting at a police training facility in Amman. Two American contractors, two Jordanians and one South African were bumped off in the attack.

The Times and al-Jazeera said the FBI has been investigating the case for months.

The stolen weapons include Kalashnikov assault rifles, mortars and rocket-propelled grenades and the black market is newly awash with arms, the reports said.

Investigators aren’t sure what happened to most of the weapons but many are likely to have ended up in the hands of rural Jordanian tribes, criminals or shipped to other countries.

The FBI and CIA declined to comment.

Arab intelligence services and the CIA have been training rebels since 2013 under the code name Timber Sycamore. The training effort is run from Jordan because of its proximity to Syria.

It is separate from Pentagon efforts in northern Syria to train and equip rebel fighters to attack the Islamic State

Though the program is classified, officials told the Times and al-Jazeera that the CIA has trained thousands of rebels in the past three years.

The fighters had been making progress against Syrian regime troops until Russia joined the war last year on Assad’s side.

Shaboob plans to attack US forces prompted recent airstrike in Somalia
Al Qaeda militants in Somalia planned and prepared “imminent attacks” against U.S. forces there, according to a recent statement from U.S. Africa Command. The plans prompted a U.S. airstrike just last week against the militants in Somalia, according to the little-noticed Africom statement.

“On June 21, 2016 in southern Somalia U.S. forces conducted a self-defense strike against al-Shabaab, killing three,” said a June 23 Africom statement.

“The operation was conducted after it was assessed the terrorists were planning and preparing to conduct an imminent attack against U.S. forces,” it said.

There are about 50 U.S. forces on the ground in Somalia, in support of partner forces fighting al-Shabaab militants.

The strike comes amid a new assessment by IHS Jane’s Terrorism and Insurgency Centre that said over the course of 2015 and 2016, al-Shabaab has “been expanding capabilities and increasing the tempo of attacks.”

The U.S. has been conducting a steady stream of airstrikes against al-Shabaab over the past several months. In May, U.S. forces conducted five airstrikes against the terrorist group. One strike was conducted on May 27 against Abdullahi Haji Da’ud, a senior military commander for al-Shabaab.

Another airstrike was conducted on May 13 in southern Somalia against nine al-Shabaab forces, after it was assessed that they were “planning and preparing to conduct an imminent attack against U.S. forces,” Africom said.

“Other similar actions were undertaken on three other occasions in May, including one on May 9 and two on May 12,” Africom said in a June 17 statement.

In April, U.S. forces conducted two airstrikes, on April 1 and 2 against al-Shabaab fighters “who posed imminent threats to U.S. and partner nation forces,” a Pentagon spokesman said on April 4.

“Our forces work closely with partners to combat Al Shabaab,” Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said after the April strikes. “Al Shabaab has pledged allegiance to Al Qaeda, is dedicated to creating safe havens for terrorist operations, and is planning on conducting external attacks in and from Africa.”

In March, U.S. forces conducted several airstrikes and a raid against al-Shabaab targets. One airstrike was conducted on March 31 against a senior al-Shabaab leader, Hassan Ali Dhoore, and another on March 12 against Adan Garar, a member of al-Shabaab’s intelligence and security wing.

On March 5, U.S. forces targeted an al-Shabaab training camp that killed more than 150 people, and U.S. special operations forces conducted a helicopter raid with Somali troops on March 8.

Marine Gen. Thomas Waldhauser, who has been nominated to become the next U.S. commander of Africom, testified last week that there has been a slowdown in the last six months of African forces provided to Africa Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom).

“So countries such as Uganda, Burundi, Ethiopia who provide these forces, they’ve taken a little bit of a back slide,” he told the Senate Armed Services Committee on June 21. “So if confirmed, one of the first things I will do is take a look at the situation inside Somalia so we can get that movement back on track,” he said.

A recent BBC report said that allowances for troops deployed to the 22,000-strong Amisom force, which is funded by the European Union, have not been paid for at least six months. An European Union source told the BBC that last six-month payment was being withheld over “accounting issues,” but the head of Amisom then told the British outlet that correct papers had been submitted, and payment was on its way.
"accounting issues": too many bribes going to Anisom generals or not enough bribes going to European apparatchiks?
The EU has also recently cut funding to Amisom by 20 percent, according to a recent Associated Press report. Uganda’s military chief has said the country plans to withdraw its more than 6,000 troops from the mission by December 2017.

Iran covertly recruits Afghan Shias to fight in Syria
Iran is covertly recruiting hundreds of Afghan Shias in Afghanistan to fight for Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, drawing them out of their own conflict-ridden country and into another war in which Afghanistan plays no official part.

The Afghan fighters are often impoverished, religiously devout or ostracised from society, looking for money, social acceptance and a sense of purpose that they are unable to find at home.

Iran’s recruitment of Afghan migrants and refugees within its own borders has been documented. But similar Iranian activities inside Afghanistan had previously gone unreported.

Salafists behind foiled terror plot in Kazakhstan
[RFE/RL] Kazakh authorities say Salafists were behind a foiled terror attack. The Kazakh National Security Committee (KNB) said on June 29 that it had detained several members of a group that had plotted "terrorist acts using improvised explosive devices." One of the suspects reportedly killed himself by detonating such a device.

KNB head Vladimir Zhumakanov told reporters on June 30 that the six detainees had no links to those behind a deadly attack in the city of Aqtobe earlier this month. In that incident, about two dozen men described as Daesh sympathizers, attacked gun stores and a national guard facility, killing seven people.Security forces killed 18 attackers.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has said the Aqtobe attackers were Salafists.

Blast on minibus Kills 20 near Mogadishu
Somali officials say at least 20 people have been killed in a massive roadside explosion that engulfed a passenger bus on the main highway linking Mogadishu to Afgoye, 30 kilometers west of the capital.

A police officer at the scene, Abidkadir Mohamed, told the Reuters News Agency it was a remotely controlled bomb along the road that exploded.

Deputy Chairman of Afgoye, Abdullahi Hassan, who went to the scene, said the blast destroyed the minibus.

“We have a big tragedy here,” he told VOA. “Everyone is dead, you only see pieces of dead bodies, hands, legs.”

He said it’s believed 21-23 people were traveling on the bus.

“The blast hit the bus early Thursday morning,” Hassan said.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far but al-Shabab often carries out deadly attacks on the Somali government and African Union peacekeepers. The group is also known for targeting civilians and hotels.

Feds Tell Florida Agencies To Deny Public Records Requests On Orlando Attack
While Attorney General Loretta Lynch holds firm to her claim that the motive of Orlando terrorist Omar Mateen may never be known, the FBI is instructing Florida agencies that responded to the attack that night to deny requests for public records pertaining to the case.

In response to a lawsuit by local media seeking the release of the 911 audio, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office released a letter they got from the FBI instructing them to deny all requests for information and refer news outlets seeking information to the feds, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

The letter reads, in part:

As you know, this is an active, on-going investigation being conducted by the FBI. The FBI considers information obtained from the state and local enforcement agencies in furtherance of its investigation to be evidence or potential evidence. Accordingly, the FBI is concerned that public disclosure of such records or information at this time will adversely affect our ability to effectively investigate the shooting and bring the matter to resolution; could endanger the safety of law enforcement officers, and other individuals who have participated in or are otherwise connected with the investigation; and risks unduly prejudicing any prosecutions that may result from the investigation.

The letter is signed by Paul Wysopal, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Tampa field office.

Those recordings and all records are public records under Florida law and are subject to freedom of information requests.

The “FBI doesn’t have the authority to hijack Florida’s constitution, which guarantees us a right of access to all non-exempt public records,” Barbara Petersen, President of the First Amendment Foundation, told the Orlando Sentinel.

On orders from the FBI, the city of Orlando has thus far refused to release any records, they say, “out of respect for the Pulse shooting victims and the families” and at the “direction of the FBI,” according to the Sentinel.
Time for Judicial Watch to file another lawsuit...
In the aftermath of the terrorist attack which left 49 people dead and 53 wounded, the White House shifted the narrative away from a terrorist attack to an attempt to impose gun control and claims of homophobia. Mateen was reported to have been a self-loathing gay man, but reports say the FBI has found zero evidence to substantiate that claim.

Kosovo court convicts Serb on terror charges
[RFE/RL] A court in Kosovo court sentenced a Serb to 13 years in jail for "attempted terrorist" activities after he was arrested in Pristina in a vehicle loaded with more than 11 kilograms of explosives.

The court on June 29 found Slobodan Gavric guilty of "intent to intimidate and destabilize the population, and...to destroy the most important political, constitutional, economic, and social structures" of Kosovo.

A veterinarian employed in the Serbian Agriculture Ministry, Gavric was arrested on December 25, 2014, when police stopped him in an area of Pristina with many embassies. The bombs in his vehicle included "a powerful explosive, combined with fragments of metal, bolts, and nails," the court said.

Gavric has denied the charges, claiming he was trying to sell the explosives, not use them. His lawyers said they would appeal the verdict.

Police refused to speculate on his intended target, but local media said the target may have been the Catholic cathedral in the city center close to the arrest site, which was filled with hundreds of Christmas worshipers.

[Daily Caller] Rush Limbaugh says that when Donald Trump defeats Hillary Clinton, the Left will be so angry "we’re gonna see levels of violence that we have not seen" as a result.

During Thursday’s "The Rush Limbaugh Show," Limbaugh argued when Trump wins the election, "I want you to think, using your intelligence guided by experience, what’s gonna happen that night? What’s gonna happen the next day? What’s going to happen every day thereafter? What’s gonna happen the day Trump gets inaugurated? What is the left gonna do?"

According to Limbaugh, the Left is "not gonna just sit idly by and accept this... They’re gonna do everything they can to undermine it. And I think we’re gonna see levels of violence that we have not seen."

"I think people are gonna be shocked at the degree to which the left intends to intimidate people into reversing that result. I think they’re gonna do everything they can to see it that Trump never does get inaugurated," Limbaugh said. "Whatever, it’s gonna be unlike anything."

#5  The publicly funded have reached the point where there is literally no crime, no violence they will forego to protect their magic checks. All the facts on the ground prove that the publicly funded will sacrifice all of their own liberties and all of their neighbors' to keep the gravy train coming. People like that will also sacrifice the lives of their neighbors for the same reason. They may not have the courage or knowledge or ability to do so themselves, but they will stand by and quietly cheer if government jackboots do the job for them.

Rush is spot on about what would happen if Trump were to win.

Will Trump win? It looks grim based upon the amount of money that Hillary Clinton has in her war chest from the five biggest industries in the U.S. plus back-channel foreign money.

#10  I read somewhere that Democrat turnout takes a nosedive when there is a lot of violence around the election. I think the case studies were based on the 60s so they may not be relevant but I think the hippie wing of the party doesn't like seeing the violent heart of their alliance and stays home.

Add to that we are seeing terrible Democrat turnout (down 30% despite all the Hillary/Bernie coverage) and historically high Republican turnout (up 50% according to one report).

I think they will go violent, but they'll turn a victory into a wave for the Republicans by doing so.

#12  The violence we've already seen is perhaps a portent of what will come. Particularly interesting to me was the contrast between Trump's visits to San Diego and San Jose. In San Diego the police were ready with a plan to keep Trump supporters and protesters apart from each other. There were no rocks or bottles thrown. There were a few arrests but the police were prepared and professional so it was easily controlled. But in San Jose you could just about say the plan was the opposite and there was violence. So it might depend on who has control of the police in each location. San Diego leans to the right while San Jose is in the heart of traditionally leftist Silicon Valley. So the blue cities and states may see riots, burning and looting. That's tough luck for them.

Putin orders government to start ‘normalizing’ trade with Turkey
[IsraelTimes] Russian, Turkish presidents hold first phone call since rift began over downing of Russian plane, agree to meet

Russian President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
on Wednesday ordered his government to begin the process of lifting sanctions imposed against The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
after Ankara shot down a Russian warplane last year.

"I ask that the Russian government begins the process of normalizing general trade and economic ties with Turkey," Putin said at a cabinet meeting following a telephone conversation with Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
First on his list were travel restrictions between the countries.

The breakthrough phone call by Putin came after Erdogan on Monday sent a letter to the Kremlin leader that Moscow said contained an apology.
"I want to start with the question of tourism ... we are lifting the administrative restrictions in this area," Putin told government ministers in televised comments.

The move came after earlier in the day Putin and Erdogan held their first phone call since Ankara downed one of Moscow’s jets in Syria last year.

A statement from the Turkish presidency said Erdogan and Putin "highlighted the importance of the normalization of bilateral relations between Turkey and Russia."

The November incident froze relations between the two nations and saw Moscow slap sanctions on Ankara.

Putin also condemned the "heinous" attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport Tuesday that killed at least 41 people and offered condolences to the Turkish people, the statement said.

"Reiterating their commitment to reinvigorate bilateral relations and fight terrorism together, the two leaders agreed to remain in contact and meet in person," Erdogan’s office said.

The Kremlin confirmed that the conversation took place and said a statement would be released.

The breakthrough phone call by Putin came after Erdogan on Monday sent a letter to the Kremlin leader that Moscow said contained an apology.

The downing of the plane in November ruptured relations and saw Moscow impose a raft of sanctions, including an embargo on Turkish food products and a ban on charter flights and the sale of package tours to the country. It also sparked a bitter war of words between the leaders with Putin calling it a "stab in the back" and demanding an apology from Erdogan.

Ankara has said Erdogan expressed his "regret" over the incident in Monday’s letter to Putin and asked the family of the pilot who died to "excuse us," but has not explicitly confirmed he apologized for shooting down the plane.

Kremlin front man Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday described the letter as an "important step" but warned that "there is no need to think that in several days it will be possible to normalize everything."

Turkey has argued that the Russian plane strayed into its airspace and ignored repeated warnings, but Russia insisted it did not cross the border and accused Turkey of a "planned provocation."

The countries are on opposing sides in the Syrian conflict, with Ankara backing rebels fighting to topple Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...

Lebanese Army says it foiled twin Islamic State terror plots
[AnNahar] The army intelligence said on Thursday that it had foiled two Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group plots that aimed to carry out attacks on a tourist facility and a densely populated area in Leb, the Army Command Orientation Directorate said in a statement on Thursday.

"The army was able to thwart a highly dangerous scheme planned by the terrorist Islamic State group," the statement said.

"It incarcerated
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
five IS members involved, including the criminal mastermind behind the plot," added the statement.

"The detainees confessed to having carried out terrorist acts attacks against the army previously."

"The plan aimed to target a large tourist facility and a densely populated area in Leb."

Investigations have been kicked off under the supervision of the related judicial authorities.

A military official told Agence La Belle France-Presse that the famed Casino du Liban was among the targets.

It was not clear when the arrests took place, but the military official said the attacks were to have been carried out "10 days ago."

They would have targeted "the Casino du Liban as well as a crowded area, like a shopping center, the southern suburbs of Beirut or indeed the neighborhoods of Hamra or Ashrafieh," the official said.

He said "jacket wallahs and gunnies" were to have carried out the attacks, and added that investigations would follow on other possible cells and potential targets.

Earlier in the day, Voice of Leb radio (100.5) had quoted unnamed sources as saying that the two targets that were eventually mentioned in the army statement were the Casino du Liban and the City Center mall in Hazmieh.

Hezbollah scraps ‘Al-Quds Day’ event amid security fears

[IsraelTimes] The Lebanese Hezbollah group cancelled an annual event on Thursday in Beirut’s southern suburbs amid security concerns gripping the country in the wake of deadly suicide kabooms earlier this week in a Christian village along the Syrian border.

In a statement, the Iran-backed Shiite group said it was scrapping the commemorations of Al-Quds Day, citing the prevailing "security situation."

It was the first time the group, which also participates as a political party in Leb’s government, cancelled the annual commemoration established by Iran’s late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who led the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Al-Quds is Arabic for Jerusalem. Al-Quds Day falls on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and is meant to be a day of solidarity with the Paleostinians.

Leb has been on high alert since nine bombs went kaboom! in the eastern border village of Qaa on Monday, killing five residents. Eight were detonated by jacket wallahs. No group has so far grabbed credit for the attacks.

China-Japan-Koreas
Fat Boy gets another new title
North Korean leader Pudgy Kim Jong-un has been named chairman of a newly restored organ called the Commission on State Affairs. The appointment came in a closed-door session of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly on Wednesday.

Kim already holds the titles of Workers Party chairman and first chairman of the National Defense Commission.

A similar organ was created in 1972 by nation founder Kim Il-sung to oversee the military as well as civilian officials, but his son Kim Jong-il abolished it to boost the power of the defense commission under his disastrous military-first doctrine.

Pundits speculate that the aim is a decisive move away from the military-first doctrine as part of Kim junior's ongoing attempts to bring the unruly military to heel and gain full control of the state.

Last month, Suet Face Kim Jong-un also changed his title from first secretary of the Workers Party to chairman.

The corpulent North Korean leader now has nine titles, most amounting to the same thing, including chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers Party, member of the standing committee of the Politburo and chairman of the military committee of the Workers Party.
It's going to give Hillary ideas...
The top military and civilian officials -- Army politburo chief Hwang Pyong-so, Workers Party Secretary Choe Ryong-hae and Premier Pak Pong-ju -- were appointed to key posts in the new commission.

The North also boosted the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, which handles inter-Korean affairs amid ongoing cross-border tensions. It was promoted from a sub-agency of the Workers Party to a national agency.

The Grand Turk
US to ban military families in Turkey for security reasons
The United States is moving toward permanently banning families from accompanying U.S. military and civilian personnel in Turkey, reflecting worsening security conditions there, two U.S. defense sources said on June 29.

The Obama administration in March ordered the families of U.S. military and diplomatic personnel to leave the İncirlik Air Base, which has been used heavily in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants, and other parts of southern Turkey. The move affected about 670 dependents of U.S. military personnel in southern Turkey, but 100 of them in Istanbul and Ankara were allowed to stay.

Now military officials plan to designate deployments by all U.S. military and civilian personnel to İncirlik base in Adana and other sites in Turkey as “unaccompanied” tours, the sources told Reuters. The move was under consideration before ISIL suicide bomb attacks at an Istanbul airport that killed 42 people and wounded 239 others, the sources said.

“The change reflects the continued deterioration of security conditions throughout Turkey,” said one of the sources, who was not authorized to speak publicly.

The U.S. military has about 2,200 service members and civilian employees in Turkey, with about 1,500 of those posted to the İncirlik base.

The change would not apply to U.S. personnel who are part of a “chief of mission” role or security cooperation team, the sources said.

The 100 dependents of U.S. personnel still in Turkey would be allowed to stay once the new rules took effect, and they would depart through natural attrition, said one of the sources.

Istanbul bombers from Russia and central Asia
Three foreign nationals – a Russian, an Uzbek and a Kyrgyz – carried out the shooting and triple suicide bombing at Atatürk airport in Istanbul, Turkish officials have said, but questions remain over security shortcomings that allowed the attackers to breach several control points and kill 43 people.

Turkish authorities, including the president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, believe Isis was responsible for the attack on Europe’s third-busiest airport on Tuesday evening, the deadliest in a string of killings and explosions that have shaken the country this year. There has been no claim of responsibility.

Turkish police have identified one of the attackers as Osman Vadinov, a Chechen from Dagestan who reportedly entered Turkey on his Russian passport about a month ago. Police said he had entered Turkey from Raqqa, the Isis stronghold in Syria, at least once before in 2015 and is suspected to have had links to jihadi cells inside Turkey.

The pro-government Yeni Safak newspaper claimed that the man suspected of being the organiser of the attack was an Isis commander of Chechen origin called Akhmed Chatayev, described by the US Treasury Department as “the commander of the Yarmouk Battalion, a Chechen faction of [Isis].”

Chatayev is said to be responsible for the recruiting and training of Russian-speaking Isis militants and was added to the US government’s list of specially designated global terrorists in 2015. He is wanted by the Russian government.

IDF dismantles three Hebron-area terror cells
[IsraelTimes] 19 residents of Beit Fajjar indicted for rock-throwing, Molotov cocktailing attacks on Israelis in recent months

Israeli security forces in recent months broke up three Paleostinian terror cells operating near the West Bank city of Hebron,
...a.k.a. Hamas Central in the West Bank...
police said Wednesday.

Members of the cells, 19 residents of the town of Beit Fajjar, have been accused of launching multiple rock and firekabooms at the nearby settlement of Migdal Oz, police spokeswoman Luba Samri said in a statement.

The suspects used makeshift weapons to launch projectiles
...that would be those five foot (1.52 m) long slingshots the Palestinan lads are so fond of...
at the settlement from a distance, then quickly returned to the village before Israeli security forces could respond, Samri said.

According to the police, a months-long investigation into the attacks led to the indictment on terrorism charges of the 19 Beit Fajjar residents.

The suspects, who include several minors, confessed to carrying out the attacks during interrogations with security forces. The identities of the suspects were not released.

Hebron has been a flashpoint in the recent wave of Paleostinian stabbing, shooting and vehicular attacks that has swept the country since October.

Erdoğan slams Gaza flotilla organizers over objection to Israel deal
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has criticized the Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (İHH),
... a Turkish charitable organization formed in the mid-1990s to help the Bosnian Muslims in various inappropriate ways during the troubles there, and has been involved thereafter in charitable works of no doubt a similar nature in the Gaza Strip and elsewhere. It is affiliated with the Moslem Brotherhood's international Union of the Good, and has links to Al Qaeda and other jihadi networks, the report of which precipitated a raid in 1997 on its headquarters which revealed all sorts of overstimulating toys ...
which organized the ill-fated 2010 flotilla to Gaza, for its objection to a recent agreement between Turkey and Israel and its decision to launch a flotilla in the first place.

“Did you ask the then-prime minister [himself] to carry such humanitarian aid from Turkey? We had already sent the necessary aid there to Gaza by that time and we are providing aid [now]. We have sent aid to Palestine and are sending. But while we were doing this, we did everything [within the bounds of diplomacy], not for a show of strength. We will continue to do so. We did these things not with a flourish of trumpets but with decency and propriety, and we are continuing to do this,” Erdoğan said on June 29 at an fast breaking iftar dinner organized for presidential palace personnel.

President Erdoğan previously stated that the İHH was an aid organization which risked death for their cause.

“What is this İHH? It is a relief organization which carries medicine and food to Gazan babies and risks death for this,” Erdoğan said in 2014.
IHH is particularly good at propaganda, and decent in terms of moving guns and ammo...
He also said the İHH had sent aid to a number of countries, adding that the “innocent and the poor all over the world gladdened” when they saw the organization.
The widows and orphans were particularly happy that IHH could help with the ammo...
Ankara and Tel Aviv signed a deal to normalize ties on June 28 after six years of strained relations. Israel’s security cabinet approved the deal on June 29. The deal is expected to be approved at the Turkish Parliament too.

Diplomatic relations between Turkey and Israel were suspended in 2010 after Israeli forces raided a convoy of aid ships headed by the Mavi Marmara that was attempting to break the blockade of Gaza, killing 10 Turkish activists.

The president also added that a ship loaded with 14,000 tons of humanitarian aid for Gaza will set out for the Ashdod port on July 1 from the southern port of Mersin.
Search it carefully...

Turkish police crack down on ISIL as death toll rises
A total of 22 people accused of having links to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) were detained in Istanbul and the western province of İzmir on June 30, as Turkish police launched a wide-scale crackdown on the group following the Istanbul Atatürk Airport suicide attacks that killed 44 people and wounded 239.

A total of 13 people, four of whom are foreigners, have been detained in Istanbul as police initiated a dawn operation on 16 different addresses in several districts, including Pendik, Başakşehir and Sultanbeyli.

In İzmir, police simultaneously raided various addresses in the Konak, Buca, Karabağlar and Bornova districts early in the morning, detaining nine people suspected of being ISIL members.

In the operation conducted by some 200 police officers, a number of organizational documents, three rifles and digital data were seized. Police said the detainees were in contact with group members in Syria and were acting in İzmir for the group’s benefit, providing financial support, recruits, and logistical support.

Meanwhile, details of the ISIL suicide bomb attack at Istanbul Atatürk Airport continue to emerge, with police finding that the three bombers were of Russian, Uzbek and Kyrgyz nationality.

Finding the passport of the Russian attacker in a cell house in Istanbul’s Fatih district, police said he was of Dagestani origin and entered Turkey with a false passport around one month ago.

The police investigation further revealed that the three bombers stayed in the apartment in Fatih ahead of the attack. The reports showed that the attackers rented the flat three months ago by making a cash payment.

Police have also revealed critical details on how the attack was organized and carried out. According to the reports, the attackers initially took a taxi from a street close to Vatan Street in the Fatih district with three backpacks and luggage and told the driver to take them to the Atatürk Airport.

Arriving at the airport, without being stopped for a police check, the attackers got out of the taxi in front of the international arrivals terminal. The attackers, who later wore their suicide belts and took up their Kalashnikovs hidden in their luggage, left the gate with each of them heading their planned spots to carry out the attacks.

One of the attackers headed to the airport’s parking garage, the other headed to international arrival Gate A, and the third one headed to the international departures terminal, sources said. They added that all of the deaths occurred in attacks at terminals and no deaths were reported from the attack in the parking garage.

Reports also state that the attackers planned to take dozens of passengers hostage inside the terminal and then blow them up together with themselves. As they were countered by a police officer at the terminal’s entrance, the plot was not carried out as planned, reports added.

Coptic Christian priest killed in Egypt's North Sinai

[AlAhram] A Coptic Christian priest was killed earlier Thursday in North Sinai, Egypt's interior ministry announced.

Reverand Rofael Moussa, the priest of St George Church in Al-Arish, was killed early morning, shot down by a group of unknown assailants, the ministry said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon.

Moussa was fixing his car when he was shot, the statement added.

The murder and gunnies are currently being investigated by authorities.

The Egyptian Orthodox Church mourned the slain priest and condemned his murder.

In July 2013, following the ouster of president Mohammed Morsi, gunnies also killed another Coptic Christian priest in Al-Arish.

#1  With the ouster of Mubarak the prisons were emptied and Islamic Jihad and Gamaat al-Islamiya convicts removed to the Sinai. In El Arish and along the Med coast they set up cells which were originally designed to assist HAMAS in Gaza. Hundreds of jihadis, including more radical Muslim Brothers, followed during the Morsy tenure. Thus, Sisi's effort to eliminate this Fifth Column has been slow and has cost many lives. But he is winning.

It was the latest in a spate of attacks blamed on the Nigeria-based Islamist bad boy group in northern Cameroon, which have driven tens of thousands of people from their homes.

The security source said the attacker went kaboom! in the town of Djakana near the Nigerian border overnight.

"Seven people were killed immediately, including the bomber. Four others later shuffled off the mortal coil", the security source said.

"Others who were maimed are in hospital. We fear the number of victims could rise."

Most of the victims were members of a local vigilante group tasked with hunting down Boko Haram fighters.

"They were gathered in a video room when the attacker entered and triggered his explosives," the security source said.

Boko Haram's seven-year insurgency has left at least 20,000 people dead in Nigeria and border areas of neighbouring Niger, Chad and Cameroon, and made more than 2.6 million homeless.

Some 2,000 Chadian soldiers are set to launch a counter-offensive against the group in the region, as part of a fight back by the four countries targeted by the group.

Boko Haram has regularly used women and kiddies to stage suicide kabooms, targeting mosques, markets, bus stations and checkpoints.

But the overnight attack comes after a lull in violence in this border zone near Nigeria.

The UN humanitarian coordinator for Cameroon warned this month that unabated attacks by the jihadists had sparked food insecurity and driven 190,000 people from their homes thereby creating a fertile ground for recruitment by Boko Haram.

Najat Rochdi had told AFP in an interview that Boko Haram members were attacking villages and food supply routes as well as burning homes and fields across northern Cameroon on a daily basis.

She said that in the last six months alone, the number of Cameroonians displaced within their own country had jumped from 60,000 to 190,000.

In addition, Cameroon is hosting 60,000 refugees from Nigeria and another 312,000 from the Central African Republic, amounting to more than 500,000 displaced people in all.

The number at risk of going hungry has soared from 900,000 to 2.4 million since January.

"It is a kind of silent crisis, which is really the danger," Rochdi said, warning that if humanitarian needs are not addressed in Cameroon, "we will see a radicalisation" of young people in the country.

"If people are not left with some hope, the only alternative for them is Boko Haram," she cautioned.

There is a gaping budgetary gap with only 30 percent of the requested $280 million (248-million-euro) humanitarian aid budget for Cameroon this year funded so far.

According to the UN, some 250 children recruited or kidnapped by Boko Haram in Cameroon have meanwhile managed to escape over the past nine months, according to the UN.

UK considers easing travel warning imposed after Tunisia attack
A phased lifting of Foreign Office advice not to to travel to Tunisia is expected to be proposed, a move that would delight a tourist sector almost wiped out by last year’s terror attack which claimed the lives of 30 British holidaymakers.

The lifting of the advice, which was imposed after the killing last June of 38 tourists on a beach near Sousse and warns against all but essential travel to every part of Tunisia, is unlikely to be proposed until after the end of Ramadan. It would have to be agreed across Whitehall, and would probably be lifted in phases, with certain areas still subject to the warning until the whole country is deemed to be safe.

The impact of the Sousse attack and the ensuing travel warnings have had a devastating effect on the Tunisian economy, leaving some hotels with as 5% occupancy.

Tourism normally accounts for 8% of the country’s GDP. Revenues for the first quarter of this year were down by 51.7% on same period in 2105, according to the central bank. The number British tourists travelling to Tunisia, previously the bulk of its summer visitors, fell by 90% after the attack.

The UK security team has been discussing a 48-point checklist of changes that need to be made by Tunisia to improve security.
The good news is that the EU checklist would have had 97 points...
One outstanding issue is whether the hotels should be required to hire armed guards from private security agencies to patrol their buildings and grounds. Tunisian law only allows state agents, such as police, to carry weapons, and any relaxation of that rule would require legislative change.
There's a good reason for that rule...
The country’s tourism minister, Selma Elloumi Rekik, said she had received assurances of a shift in Britain’s position after she held private meetings with Tobias Ellwood, a junior minister at the UK Foreign Office, last week.

Ellwood travelled to Tunisia to take part in the anniversary memorial for the tourists who were gunned down at Port el Kantaoui, near Sousse. Seiffeddine Rezgui, the gunman, was shot dead by Tunisian police in an alley.

The Tunisian ambassador to the UK, Nabil Ammar, who comes from Sousse, has made a public plea for a change in the British stance, saying that a gap now existed between the “perception of the level of security, and the real security in the country”.

He said: “Every week terrorist cells are dismantled. Terrorists are arrested or neutralised. This should give a positive image, not a negative one.

“If you take statistics, you have much less chance to die in Tunisia or to have any harm in Tunisia than so many countries close to us.”

The British security demands have ranged across improved intelligence, border controls, security at airports and hotels. Conspicuous police patrols now operate on beaches and in hotels.

As part of the upgrade in security, a small team of British trainers was initially deployed to Tunisia in March 2016 and has been providing training with a multinational team at the Explosive Ordnance Device school in Tunisia. The team will be now working with the commando unit of the Tunisian National Guard, a project undertaken at Tunisia’s request. The training over the summer will “focus on medical training, small boat handling and security operations training”.

Two splodydopes whacked on Syrian border
Two suicide bombers who were attempting to illegally cross into Turkey were killed on June 25 along the Syrian border, security sources have said.

Turkish border troops spotted two suspects who crossed illegally into Turkey. The two Syrian nationals were killed when they disobeyed orders to stop. According to examinations, the suspects were revealed to be suicide bombers and were in contact with Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militant Mustafa Demir, codenamed Ebu Ali.

One of the suicide bombers was identified as Muhammed Arab, who was believed by intelligence units to be planning a suicide attack in Ankara or the southern province of Adana. Security forces also found a flight ticket from Damascus to Qamishli on Arab’s person dated June 21.

The other suicide bomber was identified as Muhanad Khalad.
