Russia Will Knock Out US Missile Shield Installations If Attacked
If attacked, Russia will respond with retaliatory strikes at US missile defense installations wherever they may be in the world, Russia's former Strategic Missile Forces' commander warned on Tuesday.

"Any military facility of the US global missile shield will become a primary target of a Russian counterattack in the event of a military aggression against this country," Viktor Yesin told RIA Novosti news agency.

The deployment of US missile defenses in Europe under the pretext of protecting America's European allies against an imaginary missile attack by Iran has been a major irritant in US-Russia relations.

Washington insists the European missile shield is not aimed against Russia, but refuses to provide any legal guarantees to Moscow that its missile defense systems in Europe are not directed at Russia's strategic nuclear deterrent.

Slate Male Feminist: 'I Hate that I Love to Grill'
I hate how much I love to grill. It's not that I'm inclined to vegetarianism or that I otherwise object to the practice itself. But I'm uncomfortable with the pleasure I take in something so conventionally masculine. Looming over the coals, tongs in hand, I feel estranged from myself, recast in the role of suburban dad. At such moments, I get the sense that I've fallen into a societal trap, one that reaffirms gender roles I've spent years trying to undo. The whole business feels retrograde, a relic of some earlier, less inclusive era.
This really is the whole attitude of progressives summed up in one statement. They hate everything, especially themselves so they have to destroy everything.
If the self-loathing they display could be confined it'd be like going to a zoo and watching the monkeys. The problem is that these fools want to spread their misery to everyone. They're downright evangelical about that...

Update: Ace has the kind of fisking that we should have done.

#3  Dear Self Loathing,

For tens of thousands of years before humans developed anything beyond permanent settlements, they were hunter gathers. Now a rabbit may feed you today, but to bring in real food means killing something big with your fellow predominately male hunters, because besides needing enough muscle to bring the beast down, you also had to haul it back to everyone else cause they were someplace something faster, bigger, stronger couldn't reach them to make them their meal while you and the boys were out. That meant breaking it down in portable sizes for the hunting group to move with. That also meant you left stuff behind because you couldn't carry it all. So, guess what? You cook the extras on an open fire right then and there and ate it for the energy to move the rest. Those who couldn't do all that usually didn't get to reproduce over the long run.

Wanted militant calls for 'holy war' against Egypt's Sisi - SITE
[AlAhram] One of Egypt's most desperados, a former special forces officer turned Islamist krazed killer commander, has condemned President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and called for a holy war against his government.

An audio message attributed to Hisham Al-Ashmawy, who security officials suspect criminal masterminded the recent boom-mobile liquidation of Egypt's top prosecutor, said the country is "overpowered by the new pharaoh" Sisi.

Ashmawy is part of a small but highly dangerous succession of former Egyptian army officers who have joined krazed killer groups, complicating Sisi's efforts to confront what he calls an existential threat from extremism.

The Intelligence Community Should Build Public Trust, Not Just Transparency
[Overt Action] For all the talk over the last few years about the need to shed light on the workings of the intelligence community, the truth of the matter is "transparency" and "intelligence activities" are not natural bedfellows. Perhaps this is why, despite a flood of public rhetoric promising greater IC transparency, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper forbade his workforce last year from making unauthorized media contacts, or why many of the transparency initiatives undertaken thus far involve looking backwards, such as through document declassification, rather than at the present or future direction of the intelligence community.

Most thoughtful people understand that a fully transparent intelligence community is neither realistic nor desirable. What's driving calls for greater transparency isn't ill will toward intelligence professionals or even curiosity: rather, it's a lack of trust. The ODNI's 'Principles of Intelligence Transparency' seem to acknowledge this. However, merely shedding light on specific issues will only go so far to reshaping public perceptions.

The pursuit of 'greater transparency' for its own sake is a quixotic, if not disingenuous, goal for an industry that trades in secrets. Just because you know everything about a person doesn't mean that you trust them. Trust is only built through consistency -- and even then it takes time and persistence. By shifting the focus to "building trust" rather than to "increasing transparency," the focus of reform efforts would thus shift from releasing information to engaging the public.
I emphatically agree with author Phillip Lohaus. Unfortunately, I suspect 'Public Trust' has been lost indefinitely.

#1  Power tends to corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely - John Dalberg-Acton, 1st Baron Acton

The Founders read real history, not studies. They came to the conclusion that there will never be the 'right' person or persons when enough power gets concentrated. -Lurid Crime Tales-
Texas Woman Charged with Murdering Her Newborn Baby
[Breitbart] The Dallas-Fort Worth CBS affiliate reports that law enforcement officers in Addison, Texas, arrested Luz Aurora Granados-Reyes on Tuesday.

On Sunday, paramedics were called to a hotel to assist the woman after she had given birth in the employee locker room. The baby girl was found unresponsive and they performed CPR. They were not able to save the newborn.

Law enforcement officials were called and arrested the woman after there was an investigation. Before she was taken to jail, Granados-Reyes was taken to a hospital. An autopsy is being performed on the newborn.
It's not a crime, it's a media and marketing shortfall. More funding is obviously necessary.

The Truth About Western "Colonialism"
h/t Instapundit
Language is the first casualty of wars over foreign policy. To paraphrase Thucydides, during ideological conflict, words have to change their ordinary meaning and to take that which is now given them.

One word that has been central to our foreign policy for over a century is "colonialism." Rather than describing a historical phenomenon----with all the complexity, mixture of good and evil, and conflicting motives found on every page of history----"colonialism" is now an ideological artifact that functions as a crude epithet. As a result, our foreign policy decisions are deformed by self-loathing and guilt eagerly exploited by our adversaries.

...This leftist interpretation of words like colonialism and imperialism transforms them into ideologically loaded terms that ultimately distort the tragic truths of history. They imply that Europe's explorations and conquests constituted a new order of evil. In reality, the movements of peoples in search of resources, as well as the destruction of those already in possession of them, is the perennial dynamic of history.

Whether it was the Romans in Gaul, the Arabs throughout the Mediterranean and Southern Asia, the Huns in Eastern Europe, the Mongols in China, the Turks in the Middle East and the Balkans, the Bantu in southern Africa, the Khmer in East Asia, the Aztecs in Mexico, the Iroquois in the Northeast, or the Sioux throughout the Great Plains, human history has been stained by man's continual use of brutal violence to acquire land and resources and destroy or replace those possessing them. Scholars may find subtle nuances of evil in the European version of this ubiquitous aggression, but for the victims such fine discriminations are irrelevant.

#2  About the Aztecs. Cortez never had more than one thousand men with him. Fra too few to encircle Tenocthtitlan's (aka Mexico City) lake, let alone provide reasonable security to his communication lines. This was provided by thousands of Tlazcaltecs thirsty of Aztec blood after seeing many of their brethren sacrified on Astec altars. Actually Aztec prisoners had to be guarded by Spaniards in order to prevent them fro being killed and eaten.

That is another "Inconvient Truth"TM

#3  Of course when the colony is one of Eastern European territories labeled "Peoples Democratic Republic of" or an ancient vassal state like North Korea Goguryeo, it's not 'colonialism'. Cause when the Left does it, it's not colonialism, it's just 'collectivism' on the large scale.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
President Rouhani: UNSC has Acknowledged Iran's Right to Enrichment
[ALMANAR.LB] Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday that the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
Security Council (UNSC) has unequivocally recognized the Islamic Theocratic Republic's right to enrich uranium.

"Iran sought to establish its right to enrichment, and today, the UNSC has explicitly acknowledged our country's enrichment right," Rouhani said during a cabinet session.

The six countries that were parties to the negotiations on Iran's nuclear program admitted that the anti-Iran sanctions had been ineffective, the Iranian president said, adding that the UNSC, which itself imposed a series of sanctions on Tehran, unanimously endorsed a draft resolution on the lifting of the bans.

Iran and the P5+1 countries -- the United States, Britannia, La Belle France, China and Russia plus Germany -- succeeded in finalizing the text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in Vienna on July 14 after 18 days of intense negotiations and all-nighters that capped around 23 months of talks between Iran and the six world powers.

Under the JCPOA, limits will be put on Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all economic and financial bans, against the Islamic Theocratic Republic.

Iran says won't accept curbs beyond 10 years

[Ynet] Iran will not accept any attempt to extend sanctions relating to its nuclear program beyond 10 years, the Islamic Theocratic Republic's senior nuclear negotiator, Abbas Araqchi, said on Wednesday.

Speaking about a historic nuclear accord with world powers agreed on July 14 in Vienna, he told a news conference broadcast live on television that any attempt to reimpose sanctions after they expire in 10 years time would be a breach of the deal and would have "no credibility".

Lahore 'turns into Venice' after downpour
[DAWN] Heavy rain for over an hour exposed the tall claims of authorities of improving infrastructure, as Lahore's sewerage and drainage system in various localities either collapsed or choked almost submerging the Qartaba Chowk Metro Bus pedestrian underpass and various low-lying areas.

There were reports of rainwater accumulation up to four feet that could not be drained out until late on Tuesday despite continuous efforts of all water disposal and lift stations, de-watering machines and other equipment.

All the city's sore points, including Lakshmi Chowk, Nakhuda Chowk, GPO Chowk, Abid Market, Qadaffy Stadium, Garhi Shahu are mostly flooded in monsoons, while areas such as Qartaba Chowk, Gulberg, Iqbal Town, Johar Town, Township, Ravi Road have never taken a lot of time to be cleared.

Destroyer USS The Sullivans Damaged After Missile Explodes
A Navy guided missile destroyer was damaged after a missile exploded shortly after launch during an exercise off the U.S. Atlantic coast on Saturday, Navy officials have confirmed to USNI News.

“On July 18 at approximately 9 a.m. (EDT) a Standard Missile-2 (SM-2) test missile exploded after suffering a malfunction as it was fired from the guided-missile destroyer USS The Sullivans (DDG-68) during a planned missile exercise off the coast of Virginia,” read a statement from Naval Sea Systems Command provided to USNI News.

There were no reported injuries and though the ship suffered a small fire on its port side “from missile debris” the destroyer was able to return to Naval Station Norfolk, Va. unassisted, NAVSEA said.

“It is too early to determine what, if any, effect this will have on the ship’s schedule,” read the statement.

Maoist miliatnts kill three Mindanao militiamen
{Gulf Today] Heavily armed New People's Army militants gunned down three unarmed militiamen who belonged to an indigenous group in Misamis Oriental province.

Provincial military spokesman Captain Joe Patrick Martinez said the militiamen, all members of the Higaonon tribe, were heading to their barracks on board a motorcycle on Sunday when they were stopped by the militants in a village in Gingoog City. Martinez said, "They lined them up and shot them at pointblank," adding that attempts to rescue the militiamen were foiled by heavy gunfire from the militants.

The killing occurred five days after the communist rebels sought a 10-day suspension of military operations to prepare for the release of a soldier, identified as Private First Class Adonis Jess Maghanoy, they seized in another village in Gingoog City on July 11.

Maghanoy was taken captive in a raid staged by the NPA that also resulted in the death of another soldier and the wounding of 10 others, including two civilians.

40 Dead in Ethnic Clashes in Southern Libya
[ALMANAR.LB] At least 40 people have been killed in a week of ethnic festivities in southern Libya between rival gunnies from the Toubou and Tuareg minorities, a local official said.

The latest fighting centred on the oasis city of Sabha, the largest in the Libyan Sahara, the official said.
Hundreds of families have been displaced, he added.

There have been repeated deadly festivities between the two ethnic groups since February.

The Toubou, who mainly live in the southeast straddling the border with neighboring Chad, were heavily discriminated against under dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest...
and fought in the 2011 uprising that overthrew him.

The Tuareg, who mainly live in the southwest straddling the borders with Algeria and Niger, largely backed the Qadaffy regime.

The chaos that has followed the uprising has seen mounting competition for scant resources in the desert south, with Tuareg, Toubou and Arabs all setting up rival militia.

Deadly fighting with Arabs in Sabha in 2012 prompted Toubou claims of ethnic cleansing.

Tensions have worsened since the establishment of rival governments in the capital Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
and the eastern town of Tobruk last year.

The Tripoli authorities have armed the Tuareg while the Toubou have backed the internationally recognized government in the east.

The Tobruk government issued a statement on Tuesday appealing to the warring sides to "stop fighting and resolve their differences through dialogue".

Army chief Odierno, in exit interview, says US could have 'prevented' ISIS rise
[FoxNews] The Army's top officer told Fox News Tuesday it's "frustrating" to watch the gains he helped achieve in Iraq disintegrate at the hands of the Islamic State, saying in an exit interview that the chaos now unfolding "might have been prevented" had the U.S. stayed more engaged.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno, weeks away from retirement after 39 years in uniform, spent more time in Iraq than any other U.S. Army general -- more than four years, the last two as top commander. He is widely viewed as a key architect of the Iraq surge.

In an exclusive interview with Fox News, the general tackled a range of topics, from the Iran nuclear deal to the deep cuts to U.S. Army troop levels. But Odierno had pointed words on the rise of ISIS in Iraq and Syria -- suggesting it didn't have to be this way.

"It's frustrating to watch it," Odierno said. "I go back to the work we did in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 and we got it to a place that was really good. Violence was low, the economy was growing, politics looked like it was heading in the right direction."

5,000 Naked Anti-LGBT Protesters Will Greet President Obama in Kenya
[MEDIAITE] President Barack Obama
The point I was making was not that Grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn’t. But she is a typical white person...
hasn't officially announced whether or not he'll be visiting Kenya during his tour of East Africa on July 22 and 23. However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
rumors have circulated that the Hawaiian-born politician with paternal roots in the country would make a stop -- especially after a Kenyan Airways official allegedly leaked Obama's itinerary. Whatever the case may be, the members of Nairobi's Republican Liberty Party will be there to greet him.

That's because, according to The Nairobi Times, the president's visit has caused some consternation among Kenyans following his vocal support for the recent SCOTUS ruling on same-sex marriage. Although the country absolutely loves the fact that one of its own (albeit through familial relations) attained the highest political office in the U.S. executive branch, Kenya prides itself on being a very conservative African nation. This is especially true when it comes to same-sex marriage.

So in a letter addressed to Nairobi's Police Commandant, party leader Kidala Vincent wrote that the RLP "shall hold a peaceful procession":
Colour Sergeant Bourne: The sentries report Zulus Naked Anti-LGBT Protesters to the south west. Thousands of them.

"ISIS jugged

Mamuzini also claimed a large mass grave with over 60 bodies had been discovered inside Mosul, but did not elaborate on who found it, or how they would have been allowed to do so under ISIS' watch.

ISIS assault on Bashik front repelled
[Rudaw] At least 200 ISIS turbans launched a large-scale midnight assault on the Peshmerga frontlines on the Bashik front between Erbil and djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, a Peshmerga official at the scene told Rudaw Tuesday morning.

"An estimated 200 turbans attacked the Peshmerga frontlines on the Bashik front. Clashes stretched across different areas on the font and lasted till dawn," Captain Aziz Ahmed, a Peshmerga commander, said. "Three ISIS turbans were killed, and the Peshmerga did not suffer casualties."

"ISIS leaders were putting pressure on the turbans to advance into the Peshmerga stockades, but their turbans were saying on the phone 'we cannot advance, because they [Peshmerga] will not allow us and their frontlines are well fortified," Ahmed claimed. He added this intel came after a wireless device from one of the dead turbans was left behind.
Dead men carry off no phones.
"ISIS prepared a vehicle bomb equipped with bombs and ammunition to target the Peshmerga, but they failed to do so," he continued.

Gen. Mark A. Milley, tapped to be next Army chief of staff, answers questions during Senate hearing
[Fayetteville Observer] The man who will likely become the Army's next top officer was welcomed by a largely friendly Senate committee during his nomination hearing Tuesday.

Gen. Mark A. Milley, commander of U.S. Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg, was peppered with questions over a nearly two-hour Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.

Milley was tapped earlier this year to be the next Army chief of staff.

The hearing was one of the final steps in that process, which requires Senate confirmation.
"Largely friendly Senate Committee" indeed. So who is Milley and why is this a concern? Milley is the Court Martial Convening Authority for the deserter and probable traitor Bowe Bergdahl who was charged with violations of Article 85 (Desertion) and 99 (Misbehavior Before the Enemy) of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice.

Milley has not announced the status of Bergdahl including referral to Court Martial in an apparent stall despite charges having been filed. Is Milley yet another PC 'Yes Man' for the Obama Administration? Rhetorical question of course.

The aerial scenes show an area of about 10 km² under the control of the Syrian army and the Lebanese resistance forces.

Later on Wednesday, Hezbollah and the Syrian army took over the Marawih district in south Zabadani and continued to advance toward neighborhoods in the area, where they seized a driving school and several residential buildings all the way to Barada, Zabadani.

Several bully boyz were also killed when Hezbollah destroyed a Death Eater vehicle on Al-Barja road along the Lebanese border.

The video below also shows corpses of the terrorists. Sources said that at least 56 snuffies were killed in the festivities with the allied forces.

The Syrian army and Hezbollah fighters advanced towards the town of Zabadani, sources said earlier in the day, adding that the allied forces seized control of Darb Kalassah and Darb Hasbah on the outskirts of Zabadani.

Over the past two weeks, the Syrian army and Hezbollah have managed to liberate some strategic locations inside Zabadani and the operation continues to clear the snuffies from the central parts of the city.

Car bomb kills 20 in Baghdad Shiite district
[DAWN] BAGHDAD: A boom-mobile went kaboom! in a crowded marketplace in a mainly Shiite district of the Iraqi capital on Wednesday, killing at least 20 people, police and medical sources said.

A further 48 people were maimed by the blast in the Shurta neighbourhood of southwestern Baghdad.

The attack, which struck a busy commercial street in the western district of Bayaa, was the latest of a number of particularly deadly incidents in Baghdad in less than a week.

On Tuesday, at least 30 people died in two boom-mobileings and attacks on police.

The worst boom-mobileing left 19 dead and 43 maimed in the eastern district of Baghdad al-Jadida, a predominantly Shiite area that has been one of the most targeted by boom-mobiles in recent years. Another four people were killed and 10 maimed in a similar attack in the southern neighbourhood of Zafaraniya.

Apex court stays execution of Asia Bibi
[DAWN] Staying the execution of a Christian woman, Asia Bibi, the Supreme Court of Pakistain on Wednesday admitted for hearing a petition filed by the death-row prisoner who was convicted on blasphemy charges.

A three-member bench at the Supreme Court's Lahore registry admitted the petition for full hearing and also ordered for all records pertaining to the case to be presented before it.

In her petition, the 50-year-old woman has claimed that she had not made any blasphemous remarks, and rather residents of her neighbourhood had leveled the blasphemy allegations against her based on a personal feud.

She asked the court to strike down her death sentence.

Mother of five children, Asia Bibi has been on death row since November 2010 after being convicted of committing blasphemy during an argument with a Moslem woman over a bowl of water in 2009.

She had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court in November 2014 as her final legal recourse, one month after the Lahore High Court upheld the death sentence of Asia Bibi, dashing hopes the conviction might be overturned or commuted to a jail term.

Blasphemy is an extremely sensitive issue in Pakistain where 97 per cent of the population is Moslem and unproven claims regularly lead to mob violence.

Suicide bomber on cycle of violence kills 15 near Afghan market

The main target was believed to be a nearby police checkpoint in Almar, a district of Faryab province which borders Turkmenistan, local officials added.

Five of the dead were Afghan security force personnel and the rest civilians, Faryab's acting governor, Satar Barez, said.

"Security forces were at their checkpoint in Almar's main market when the suicide bomber detonated his explosives," Barez said.

PKK Claims Killing of 'ISIL-linked' Turkish Police
[ALMANAR.LB] The military wing of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) said on Wednesday it killed two ISIL-linked Turkish coppers in a town on the Syrian border as a reprisal for a suicide kaboom blamed on snuffies that killed 32.

"A punitive action was carried out... in Dire Revenge for the massacre in Suruc," the military wing of the outlawed PKK, the People's Defence Forces (HPG), said in a statement on its website.

Turkish security forces had earlier discovered the bodies of two coppers in the country's southeastern province of Sanliurfa near the border with conflict-ridden Syria.

Provincial governor Izettin Kucuk said the officers were found dead at their shared home in the small border town of Ceylanpinar, situated 800 kilometers (497 miles) southeast of the capital, Ankara, on Wednesday.

The statement by the HPG said that the attack took place at 6:00 am (0300 GMT) and that the coppers' identity cards and service weapons had been seized.

It described the attackers as an "Apoist team of self-sacrifice", in reference to the PKK's tossed in the slammer
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
leader Abdullah Ocalan whose nickname is "Apo."

The authorities had earlier appeared at a loss to explain the attack on the police in Ceylanpinar, which had been first announced earlier Wednesday.

, the government said Wednesday.

Spanish police working with Moroccan security services seized the man overnight as part of a major investigation into gangs suspected of recruiting women and minors to send them to Syria and Iraq.

They arrested a 29-year-old man from Melilla, a small fenced-off city on the tip of northern Morocco, the interior ministry said in a statement.

It said he possessed "multimedia files of a jihadist nature".

"Some of his propaganda and indoctrination material was aimed specially at radicalizing women."

It said officers also seized recordings of "radical sermons" in favor of the IS group.

The suspect is accused of sharing the material with his son, a minor, "to familiarize him with jihadist tactics".
They've got to be carefully taught...
Melilla is one of two Spanish territories bordering Morocco, along with Ceuta to the west.

They have Europe's only land borders with Africa, posing a security concern to Spanish authorities.

Spain has been cracking down on suspected jihadists over the past year, arresting scores of people, mostly in Melilla, Ceuta and the northeastern mainland region of Catalonia.

The government says at least 116 Spaniards have left to join jihadist groups in Syria and Iraq, according to a figure dating to July 6.

The Yemeni revolutionary leaders made the remarks in a presser on latest Yemeni developments in Tehran on Wednesday, where they stressed that Saudi ports and economic centers are within the range of their missiles.

said Wednesday the Al Saud regime must be placed in the international community's custody for pursuing wrong policies and supporting terrorism.

In an interview with an Iraqi satellite channel, Maliki described Soddy Arabia

Maliki, a former Iraqi prime minister, said the international community should intervene to prevent the spread of hard boy ideologies emanating from Saudi Arabia and put the monarchy under global supervision.

Otherwise, Maliki said, terrorism will continue to grow, fed by Saudi petrodollars.

Mali Troops Destroy Jihadist Camps near I.Coast Border
[AnNahar] Malian troops destroyed two jihadist camps and tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
15 suspected Lions of Islam in the latest operation combating radical Islamist groups near the southern border with Ivory Coast, military sources said on Tuesday.

"During new military operations in the area, we arrested 15 new jihadists and destroyed a new sanctuary of theirs in the region of Sikasso, on the border with Ivory Coast," a military officer told AFP.

Among the jihadists was a radical preacher who "came from Ivory Coast in order to build a mosque in a Malian village where he could impose his law", said the same source on condition of anonymity.

A different Malian military source said troops seized arms, explosives and cycle of violences in a raid on another camp near the frontier town of Fakola, which was pillaged on June 28 in an attack claimed by Islamist group Ansar Dine.

The latest raid came after Malian troops last week killed several jihadists in the Sikasso region, near the border with Ivory Coast, and destroyed the holy warriors' camp in a forest straddling the frontier.

Jihadist attacks are normally confined to Mali's restive northern desert region but areas bordering Mauritania have been targeted since the start of the year, and southern settlements more recently.

The north came under the control of Ansar Dine -- which is Arabic for Defenders of Faith -- and two other jihadist groups, Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa, in April 2012.

A move south towards the capital by the turbans, who imposed a brutal version of sharia on inhabitants, prompted Mali's former colonial master La Belle France to intervene in January 2013, pounding their positions in the north.

Tunisians nab fuel smugglers after a Libyan border gunfight
[Libya Herald] In what appears to be a demonstration of a new toughness after the Sousse and Bardo terrorist attacks, Tunisian troops yesterday tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
16 fuel smugglers after a brief shootout in the military buffer zone, near the border town of Ben Guerdane.

The men, from both Libya and Tunisia, were seized along with nine vehicles, which the Tunisian news agency TAP said were carrying heavily-subsidised Libyan petrol for sale on the Tunisian black market.

There are other reports that when their convoy was challenged, the smugglers called up armed support from the Libyan side of the frontier. No one appears to have been injured in the exchanges of fire. It is unclear if any of the gunnies managed to escape back into Libya.

Tunisia is currently constructing a fence and ditch along a 220 kilometre stretch of its border with Libya. The idea is to interdict the movement of murderous Moslems between the two countries. However inevitably the new barrier will have an impact on the extensive and lucrative cross-border smuggling trade.

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least 4,100 service members of the Afghan National Army (ANA) and the Afghan National Police (ANP) forces have lost their lives during the first six months of the year 2015.

The latest statistic regarding the Afghan National Security Forces casualties was disclosed in a report by the New York Times which shows a 50% increase as compared to the first six months of the year 2014.

According to the Times, the data regarding the Afghan forces casualties was provided by an official with the American-led coalition.

The data also revealed at least 7,800 service members of the Afghan National Security Forces were wounded during the same period.

In the meantime, the Afghan officers identified desertion as a serious problem saying that many soldiers were simply being barred from going home and required to fight on the frontlines for months straight.

The considerable growth in Afghan forces casualties comes as the Taliban-led insurgency has also been rampant with Afghan commanders and officials in key battleground areas saying that while Afghan forces nominally hold key areas, they are often penned in by Taliban forces.

Abdul Hadi Khalid a retired Afghan Lieutenant General told the Times “We are in a passive defense mode — we are not chasing the enemy,” and called the mounting casualties “grave.”

Mirdad Khan Nejrabi a member of Afghanistan’s parliament said that while the casualties were “very concerning” there would be no large-scale collapse of Afghan forces.

Gunmen open fire on Gen. Dostum's security guards in Shebarghan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A brief shootout was reported in Shebarghan city of northern Jawzjan province on Wednesday after a group of gunnies attacked the security guards of the First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
.

One of the Lions of Islam was reportedly killed and another was jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
by the security forces following the shootout.

The First Vice President was not present when when festivities broke out.

This comes as Gen. Dostum visited northern Jawzjan province of Afghanistan to assess the security situation in northern Afghanistan, specifically the northern Faryab province where the security situation has considerably deteriorated recently.

At least 19 people were killed and 32 others were maimed in a suicide kaboom that targeted the Afghan cops in a busy market in Almar district today.

During a meeting with the Afghan army and Afghan coppers along with Afghan intelligence operatives in Shebarghan city on Monday evening, Gen. Dostum said he is visiting northern Afghanistan based on President Ghani's instructions.

Gen. Dostum promised to resolve the security issues of northern Afghanistan, specifically the northern Faryab province.

"...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban."

Dostum did not fight the Soviets - he fought with them against the mujaheddin. He was very effective in protecting the area around Maza-i-Sharif.

After the Soviets pulled out of Afghanistan, Dostum continued fighting against the mujaheddin, supporting the Afghan government.

It was after the Soviet Union dissolved and Soviet aid to the Afghan government ceased that Dostum switched sides, allying with Ahmad Shah Masoud (Lion of Panjshir), the leader of the Northern Alliance. (Masoud was assassinated by al-Qaeda a few days before the attack on 9/11.)

Obama defends IRS, says tea party targeting didn't happen
[WASHINGTONTIMES] President B.O. defended the IRS
...the Internal Revenue Service; that office of the United States government that collects taxes and persecutes the regime's political enemies...
Tuesday in an interview with "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart, saying the tea party-targeting scandal was actually Congress' fault for passing "a crummy law" and that the real problem is the agency doesn't have enough money.

Mr. Obama, who has overseen a series of scandals at the IRS, the Veterans Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and now the Office of Personnel Management, was asked why government didn't seem to be working on his watch.

But the president said he's not to blame, using the IRS as an example of how what went wrong wasn't his fault, and questioning whether tea party groups were ever targeted.

The IRS' internal auditor concluded that the agency did, in fact, target conservative and tea party groups for intrusive scrutiny, and Mr. Obama's own Justice Department is still conducting a criminal investigation into the targeting.

Mr. Obama, though, disputed that version Tuesday, according to the pool news hound traveling with the president.

Mr. Obama said Congress "passed a crummy law" that provided vague guidance to the people who worked at the IRS. And he said that employees implemented the law "poorly and stupidly."

The president went on to say that the "real scandal around the IRS is that they have been so poorly funded that they cannot go after these folks who are deliberately avoiding tax payments."

#9  More proof that the IRS was harassing conservatives:

In 2010, after receiving Baucus’s letter, the IRS considered the issue of auditing donors to 501(c)(4) organizations, alleging that a 35 percent gift tax would be due on donations in excess of $13,000. The documents show that the IRS wanted to cross-check donor lists from 501(c)(4) organizations against gift tax filings and commence audits against taxpayers based on this information.

A gift tax on contributions to 501(c)(4)’s was considered by most to be a dead letter since the IRS had never enforced the rule after the Supreme Court ruled that such taxes violated the First Amendment. The documents show that the IRS had not enforced the gift tax since 1982.

But then, in February 2011, at least five donors of an unnamed organization were audited.

An examination like that should, at worst, only result in a letter going out to the donor that they need to file a gift tax return. Instead, they use it to justify at least five full-blown field audits, which went against their own thirty-year policy on this issue. Fire everyone involved in those audits.

Navy Times: Naval office, Marine shot back at Chattanooga killer
A Navy officer and a Marine fired their sidearms hoping to kill or subdue the gunman who murdered five service members last week in Chattanooga, Tennessee, according to multiple military officials familiar with internal reporting on the tragedy.

It remains unclear whether either hit Muhammad Abdulazeez, who was shot and killed on July 16 after he bumped off four Marines and a sailor at the Navy Operational Support Center in Chattanooga. It's also unclear why they were armed, as it is against Defense Department policy for anyone other than military police or law enforcement to carry weapons on federal property.

A report distributed among senior Navy leaders during the shooting's aftermath said Lt. Cmdr. Timothy White, the support center's commanding officer, used his personal firearm to engage Abdulazeez, Navy Times confirmed with four separate sources. A Navy official also confirmed a Washington Post report indicating one of the slain Marines may have been carrying a 9mm Glock and possibly returned fire on the gunman.

The various law enforcement agencies investigating the Chattanooga shooting declined to comment. A source close to the investigation said details of the rampage's last few minutes remain unclear, but no information has emerged to contradict the Navy's internal findings.

Authorities will not know whether White or the Marine hit Abdulazeez until an autopsy and ballistics assessment are performed.

Austrian court jails Chechen for joining jihadis in Syria
[Ynet] An Austrian court sentenced a Chechen to five years in jail on terror charges after he travelled to Syria in 2013, the latest and one of the toughest verdicts in a string of Islamic State

The 30-year-old Chechen, identified as Magomed Z., was convicted of participating in terrorism and possessing child pornography but acquitted of receiving combat training in Syria. He had faced up to 10 years in prison on the terrorism charge alone.

The Chechen had pleaded not guilty

N. Korea Plans to Launch New Long-Range Rocket
[ALMANAR.LB] North Korea is preparing to launch a new, long-range rocket, possibly in October, having completed an upgrade at its main satellite launch base, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported Wednesday.

Quoting an unnamed government source, Yonhap cited "credible intelligence" that North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un had ordered the launch of a satellite to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the North's ruling Workers' Party on October 10.

"We think (the North) will carry out a provocation around the 70th anniversary," the source said.

The South Korean Defense Ministry declined to confirm or deny the Yonhap report.

"As to the construction of North Korea's long-range missile launching facilities, we've been watching the North's moves very closely," a ministry front man said.

According to the Yonhap source, North Korea has completed work on an extended 67-meter (220-foot) gantry capable of handling a rocket twice the size of the 30-meter Unha-3 rocket launched in December 2012.

The Unha-3 launch was widely condemned overseas as a ballistic missile test and triggered additional UN sanctions.

North Korea, which insisted the launch was purely scientific in nature, responded three months later by conducting its a third nuclear test - the most powerful to date.

North Korea is banned under UN Security Council resolutions from carrying out any launch using ballistic missile technology, although repeated small-range missile tests have gone unpunished.

18 year old woman escapes Abu Sayyaf captivity
[Gulf Today] An 18-year-old woman held hostage by the Abu Sayyaf since March 31 escaped during an operation by Philippine security forces on the island province of Sulu. Brigadier General Alan Arrojado identified the victim as Lediegie Tomarong, who was found wandering in the town of Indanan, Sulu, a known Abu Sayyaf stronghold.

Arrojado said Tomarong took advantage of an ongoing military operation to escape from her captors on Monday afternoon. He quoted Tomarong as saying, "They packed up their rifles and ammunition and scampered. I took the chance to run as fast as I could."

Officials said heavily-armed insurgents abducted Tomarong and a three-year-old boy,the son of her employer in the town of Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur province on March 31.

Police said the boy's two-year-old sister was killed when lawmen tried to prevent the kidnapping. Tomarong recounted that the Abu Sayyaf dumped the girl's body in the sea when they fled to Sulu. She also revealed she could not bring the boy when she escaped but added she was able to feed him before they separated.

U.S. House Votes to Revoke Passports of Americans Linked to Terror Groups
[AnNahar] The House of Representatives has passed a measure that would allow the U.S. government to revoke or deny passports to Americans linked to "foreign terrorist organizations."

Passed by a voice vote Tuesday after a 15-minute debate, the bill aims to block the movement of "lone wolves" trained in Syria by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group for attacks in the United States.

Senate approval is required for the bill to become law.

It authorizes the US secretary of state to revoke the U.S. passport -- but not the nationality -- of any American determined to have "aided, assisted, abetted, or otherwise helped" a designated foreign terrorist organization.
It authorizes the US secretary of state to revoke the U.S. passport -- but not the nationality -- of any American determined to have "aided, assisted, abetted, or otherwise helped" a designated foreign terrorist organization.

Likewise, the U.S. passport can be denied under the bill to any American that falls into that category.

U.S. law currently allows passports to be revoked for national security or foreign policy reasons.

But Republican congressman Ed Royce, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, argued that the law is open to interpretation, making a more explicit measure necessary.

About 180 Americans have traveled to Syria to join murderous Moslem groups, out of about 3,400 western imported muscle, the director of national intelligence, James Clapper, said in February.

"These traitors who've turned against Americans (and) joined the ranks of foreign radical terrorist armies should not be allowed to come back in the United States unless it's in handcuffs," Republican congressman Ted Poe, the bill's sponsor, said.

Americans whose passports are revoked can appeal through administrative channels.

Abdulazeez was anti-American -- and depressed
The Daily Mail does the reporting that American newspapers (again) haven't been doing. Some significant snippage. And as is usual for a Brit national paper, lots of photos at the link.
Federal investigators have discovered writings by the Chattanooga gunman in which he talked about his dissatisfaction with the US war on terror and expressed other anti-American sentiments, it was revealed today.

Two sources familiar with the case, including a law enforcement official, said some of Mohammad Abdulazeez's writings are more than a year old and are consistent with a suicidal mindset, reported CNN.

While Abdulazeez sometimes expressed misgivings about US policy in the Mideast, his feelings didn't seem extreme and there was no indication he was involved with terrorist groups while in Jordan, a family representative said.

There was also no immediate explanation for why he targeted military sites in the attack.
There are two plausible ones: one, he was a radical Islamist, and two, he was suicidal-depressed, perhaps schizoaffective. Those aren't mutually exclusive...
While some have speculated that he may have been inspired by the Islamic State terrorist group, a friend of Abdulazeez said that the shooter thought ISIS was 'doing wrong,' James Petty, who would practice shooting rifles with his friend in the woods, said that the gunman told him ISIS 'was a stupid group and it was completely against Islam', according to CNN.
James, did he say it in English or in Arabic?
Earlier today, the family of the Chattanooga shooter revealed that in his personal diary, the 24-year-old Kuwait-born man, who was gunned down by police after he shot and killed five service members in Tennessee, had laid out his struggles with suicidal thoughts, financial woes and legal troubles related to his drug addiction.

The gunman's journal, according to the Abdulazeez family spokesman speaking exclusively to ABC News, paints a portrait of a troubled youth who wrote about committing suicide and 'becoming a martyr' as far back as 2013, around the time when he was fired from his job because of his addiction to prescription pills and illegal narcotics.

The family representative said the electrical engineering student was addicted to sleeping pills, painkillers, opioids, marijuana, as well as alcohol. In his diary, according to the spokesperson, Abdulazeez wrote about how he struggled to work a 12-hour night shift at a plant and had to take pills so he could fall asleep during the day.

Abdulazeez was also considering filing for bankruptcy because he was heavily in debt.

The family representative said Abdulazeez was first treated by a child psychiatrist for depression when he was 12 or 13 years old. The 24-year-old also fought drug and alcohol abuse, spending several months in Jordan last year to help clean himself up.
It's certainly possible that he was schizoaffective or completely schizophrenic. Those manifest early, are often mis-diagnosed, and frequently come to crisis when the person is in his 20s...
The representative said relatives of Abdulazeez believe those personal struggles are at the heart of last week's killings at a pair of military sites in Chattanooga.

‘They do not know of anything else to explain it,’ said the representative Sunday.

Petty said that his friend was a heavy smoker of marijuana and that his parents would call up to check about where their son was because of his substance abuse.

The claim fits a pattern of behavior by Abdulazeez that includes a drunken driving arrest earlier this year and the loss of a job over a failed drug test. Several years ago, relatives tried to have Abdulazeez admitted to an in-patient program for drug and alcohol abuse but a health insurer refused to approve the expense, said the representative.

Two days before the deadly shootings in Chattanooga, Abdulazeez rented a silver Mustang convertible, arrived at a local mosque and took a friend on a joy ride that lasted until 3am.

‘He bragged about [the car], and was showing it off to friends about how fast it would go,’ the Abdulazeez family spokesperson said Sunday.

'He was medicated like many children are. Through high school and college he did a better job sometimes than others staying with it,' the representative said.

Abdulazeez had spent several months in Jordan last year under a mutual agreement with his parents to help him get away from drugs, alcohol and a group of friends who relatives considered a bad influence, the representative said.

Counterterrorism investigators continued to interview Abdulazeez's acquaintances and delve into his visit to Jordan, looking for clues to whom or what might have influenced him and set off the bloodshed. Jordanian government officials told CNN that they were speaking to the shooter's extended family about his time in the country.

FBI spokesman Jason Pack declined comment on whether investigators were pursuing mental health records for Abdulazeez. But FBI Special Agent Ed Reinhold told reporters at a recent news conference about the case that agents were looking into all aspects of his life and had not yet turned up any connections to Islamic terrorist groups.

The representative said Abdulazeez had owned guns for years, going back to when he was a child shooting at squirrels and targets, and called himself an 'Arab redneck' or 'Muslim redneck.'

A year after graduating from college with an engineering degree, Abdulazeez lost a job at a nuclear power plant in Ohio in May 2013 because of what a federal official described as a failed drug test. Recently, Abdulazeez had begun working the night shift at a manufacturing plant and was taking medication to help with problems sleeping in the daytime, the representative said, and he also had a prescription for muscle relaxants because of a back problem.

It's unknown what substances were in the man's system at the time of the killings, but toxicology tests should provide an answer.

After returning from his time overseas, Abdulazeez was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence in the pre-dawn hours on April 20. A police report said he told a Chattanooga officer he also was with friends who had been smoking marijuana. The report said Abdulazeez, who had white powder on his nose when he was stopped, told the officer he also had sniffed powdered caffeine.

The arrest was 'important' because Abdulazeez was deeply embarrassed and seemed to sink further into depression following the episode, the representative said. Some close relatives learned of the charge only days before the shooting, the person said.

To Defeat China in Battle, America Should Study World War II

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Jordan Holding Chattanooga Shooter's Uncle
[AnNahar] The Jordanian intelligence services have been holding an uncle of the man who killed five U.S. troops in Tennessee last week, his lawyer told AFP on Wednesday.

"The intelligence services have been illegally detaining my client, university lecturer Assaad Ibrahim al-Haj Ali, since Friday," the day after the attack, Abdelkader al-Khatib said.

Khatib said his client, who is of Paleostinian origin, has joint Jordanian-U.S. citizenship.

He is the uncle of Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez, 24, who killed four U.S. marines and a sailor at two military centers in Chattanooga on Thursday, before dying himself in a shootout with police.

Khatib said that Abdulazeez had stayed with his uncle and worked in his mobile telephone shop during a visit to Jordan lasting several months last year.

He said the U.S. authorities were interested in knowing more about that visit to better understand the gunman's state of mind.

Washington has described the shooting as an "act of terrorism" but Khatib said the family had been surprised by his actions.

"He was a normal person not a radical," he said.

He said his client had initially been released after a few hours of questioning on Friday.

But later in the day he was placed in durance vile
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
and his home searched and laptop and mobile phone seized.

"My client was arrested illegally... without any accusation," Khatib said.

Amman has said that the gunman, who was born in Kuwait, did not have Jordanian citizenship, only the travel papers it issues to stateless Paleostinians.

India-Pakistan
Rule of law
[DAWN] RECENTLY, the World Justice Project (WJP) assessed the rule of law in 102 countries. According to its global index, Pakistain ranked 98, India came in at 59, China 71 and Afghanistan 101, while the United States stood at 19. Without rule of law, sustained development remains an elusive goal; governance, peace, investment and development are all linked with the rule of law.

To compile the index, more than 100,000 households and experts overall were surveyed, around 980 household and experts per country. The rankings were determined on the basis of nine factors, including constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil justice and criminal justice.

The results are not surprising although they can be questioned on grounds of both methodology and scope. For example, in Pakistain the survey included Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, Lahore and Faisalabad
...formerly known as Lyallpur, the third largest metropolis in Pakistain, the second largest in Punjab after Lahore. It is named after some Arab because the Paks didn't have anybody notable of their own to name it after...
, while leaving Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, KP and Islamabad out of the equation. Moreover, it only looks at rule of law in urban areas and fails to reflect the situation in rural Pakistain.

Rule of law is a legal dictum. It regulates social life and human interaction to ensure that the 'elite' and ordinary citizens are subject to the same law. However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
in developing societies rule of law is often sacrificed at the altar of discretion and personal whims.

Fight against ISIS intensifies in Syria’s Hasaka
[Rudaw] Kurdish forces claim they have seized strategic areas of Hasaka amidst reports of poisonous gas attacks by ISIS in the violently contested city.

The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) claimed they took control of the crossroads at Nashwa in Hasaka this afternoon, according to information obtained by Rudaw.

Intense battles are ongoing in Hasaka between ISIS forces of Evil on one side and Kurdish forces, the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) and Syrian regime army. Much of the fighting has reportedly been centered at Nashwa.

"The ISIS gunnies have been surrounded by the YPG fighters in one neighborhood, and the fight has turned into urban warfare," a source told Rudaw.

"Several YPG fighters were killed with booby traps placed by ISIS. The radical group also used poisonous gas against the Kurdish forces in some areas," added the source. "The coalition Arclight airstrikes continue their support to the Kurdish forces by bombing ISIS positions."

turbans were killed in alley-to-alley festivities Wednesday in the ethnically Kurdish city of Hasaka, in northern Syria, sources say.

A Rudaw correspondent said intense festivities resumed in the Al-Nashwa district of south Hasaka at dawn between ISIS murderous Moslems, the Syrian Army, and the Kurdish forces known as the YPG, or People's Protection Units.

"ISIS has planted bombs and landmines to halt any advance the YPG might make, but they have failed in stopping the YPG and the Syrian government forces," said the correspondent.

Fierce fighting has raged in Hasaka for many days, with the YPG recently mobilizing forces to recapture the southeastern areas of the city. Street battles are currently ongoing in some urban areas.

The Syrian military has launched air raids on ISIS leading to the deaths of several turbans inside Hasaka.

Ghariani rails against credit cards
[Libya Herald] Sheikh Sadek Al-Ghariani, still accepted as Grand Mufti by the Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
regime in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, has again ventured into the issue of Libyan credit cards, this time over the propriety of using them to withdraw cash abroad and with it buy back dinars in Libya at profit.

Saying that there had been questions asked whether it was right for Libyans to use their Libyan bank-issued credit cards abroad to draw dollars from their accounts and then, on returning, to sell them on the black market for profit, he condemned it.

In a statement issued by his fawta organization, the Dar Al-Ifta, he said that such use of credit cards and of dealing with foreign currency this way was haram.

The statement added that following his complaints to the finance committee of the General National Congress and the Central Bank of Libya, the National Commercial Bank and the Gumouriya Bank had stopped issuing international-use credit cards. The only bank still issuing them, he noted, was the Aman Bank.

Last September, Ghariani issued a fatwa against the Aman Bank credit cards saying that there were a number of concerns in the fine print of the terms and conditions of the cards and the way these related to Islamic banking rules.

The fatwa did not stop the cards being issued or Libyans using them.

In the latest pronouncement, there was no criticism of the financial system that enables such exchange practices to occur -- a system where, because the dinar is pegged artificially high against the dollar, the black market rate, reflecting the real nature of the Libyan economy, is substantially different. At present the official dollar/dinar rate 1.39. The black market rate is 2.30.

Nor was there any criticism of the money merchants who run the massive black-sector financial system that takes advantage of difficulties to access foreign currency. Nor any call for an end to currency controls which would eradicate the problems.

The Grand Turk
Turkey Identifies Suicide Attacker
[AnNahar] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Wednesday identified the perpetrator of a deadly suicide kaboom blamed on Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) bandidos gunnies as a 20-year-old man from its southeast, as the government prepared new measures to protect the mostly non-existent border with Syria.

With the country still shaken by Monday's bombing in Suruc, close to the Syrian border, two police were found rubbed out in their homes in a nearby town but it was unclear if there was a terror link.

Hundreds rallied in Istanbul and other cities late Tuesday to condemn the bombing and protest at government policies on Syria before being dispersed by police wielding tear gas and water cannon.

The suicide kaboom claimed 32 lives, making it one of the deadliest attacks in Turkey in recent years. It was the first time the government directly blamed IS for a strike inside the country.

A Turkish official said DNA testing had confirmed a 20-year-old Turkish man reportedly linked to IS gunnies carried out the suicide kaboom.

"As a result of DNA tests, we confirm that the assailant is a 20-year-old man registered in Adiyaman," the official told AFP on condition of anonymity, referring to a province in southeastern Turkey.

Media reports had earlier said the man -- a university student identified by his initials S.A.A. -- had first become involved with IS gunnies two months ago.

The group, which has captured swathes of territory in Syria and Iraq adjoining the Turkish border, has so far not claimed the Suruc bombing.

Turkish authorities are also investigating if there is any connection between the Suruc assault and a deadly attack in the Kurdish majority city of Diyarbakir last month that killed four people.

Two Turkish police were found dead in the southeastern town of Ceylanpinar on the Syrian border but it was unclear whether the attack had "terrorist connections", Turkish television quoted the governor of Sanliurfa region, Izzettin Kucuk, as saying. NTV television and the state news agency Anatolia quoted Kucuk as saying the police had been found dead in an apartment building. The Hurriyet daily reported both had been shot in the head.

A Turkish court has ordered a ban on publishing of images of the deadly suicide kaboom in Suruc on all print, visual and online media, including Twitter, a Turkish official said. The official insisted no formal ban had been placed by the Turkish authorities on the use of Twitter -- where many of the images had been posted -- as users complained they could not access their accounts inside the country. But as Twitter is unable to take down every image related to the suicide kaboom, users could face problems, the official acknowledged.

"We are holding talks with Twitter to address this problem," the official said.

Moral brigade active in Islamabad again
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: Are they back -- the moral brigades that blackened the faces of women on advertisement boards in 2007?

At least that is what people feared when they found bared arms and faces of models on billboards defaced in Super Market during Eid shopping spree.

Nobody saw who did it but thoughts went back to religious activists, mainly seminary students, who did the same during the Lal Masjid
...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...
-inspired heady 'islah' (reform) campaign in the federal capital eight years ago.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
like then, neither the advertisers nor their clients have felt reporting the vandalism to the police or the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

But privately, and guardedly, many have expressed despair at the possible return of the moral brigades.

"I cannot understand what anybody will gain by causing loss to me," said Sohail Shah, the advertiser of two of the three billboards disfigured at the Super Market.

"It will cost me Rs10,000 to change the smeared reflector screen," he added. "Insurance is not available against vandalism and charging clients would be unreasonable and damaging to my business."

Sobia Amir, the owner of a salon, said her 'well-wishers' blamed the act on right-wing students, but felt "not much can be done about it."

Southeast Asia
Two wanted militants gunned down in southern Thailand
[Bangkok Post] Thai security forces killed two wanted militants in Pattani province on Monday and found an assault rifle stolen during a deadly attack at a military unit over a decade ago.

Col Pramote Prom-in, spokesman for the Internal Security Operations Command, on Tuesday spoke the raid on a house to arrest two militants in Pattani's Nong Chik district on Monday. He said raid led to a gun battle at the house where the suspects were staying. When it was over, the two wanted men were found dead.

The slain militants were identified as Muhammad Chitiloh and Muhammadpaosi Samoh. Both were wanted for ambushes and bombings killing government officials and local residents, and damaging property in Pattani. Muhammadpaosi was also a bomb maker.

One of the M16 rifles found at the scene had been stolen from a military center on April 28, 2003. In the early morning on that day, about 15 militants attacked a military development center in Narathiwat province, killing five marines, wounding one and robbing the unit of 15 M16s. At approximately the same time that day, 15 other militants attacked another military development center in Yala province. They injured one soldier and stole 18 M16s and two grenade launchers.

India-Pakistan
PPP in Dubai
[DAWN] FOR every political misstep or transgression by the military in Sindh, the PPP led by former president Asif Ali Zardari appears willing and able to outdo its uniformed counterparts. The capital of Sindh, where the PPP has been in power for the last seven years, is Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
. Karachi is the seat of the provincial government; Karachi is the principal political office of the PPP; Karachi is where Mr Zardari has an enormous and thoroughly fortified home; and Karachi is where the PPP-led government should meet to take decisions concerning the province of Sindh. Not Dubai. But Mr Zardari and the PPP appear oblivious to the accepted laws of politics and seem determined to make up their own rules. What else can explain the Sindh chief minister, Qaim Ali Shah, and several senior ministers flying out to Dubai -- on whose expense? -- to hold a PPP summit with Mr Zardari and Bilawal Baby Bhutto Zardari
...Pak dynastic politician, son of Benazir Bhutto and grandon of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. As far as is known, Bilawal has no particular talents other than being pretty and being able to memorize political slogans, but he had the good luck to be born into the right family and he hasn't been assassinated yet...
? Perhaps it was to discuss the cabinet reshuffle in Sindh. Or perhaps it was to discuss the recent administrative changes in the province, the decisions taken by the apex committee, the upcoming Sindh local government elections or steps taken to prepare for potential flooding in the rural parts of the province. Nothing explains why any of these issues had to be discussed in Dubai.

Is Asif Ali Zardari apprehensive? Is he hiding something? Surely, for a leader who often talks about his years in jail and his supposed fearlessness, this is the wrong time to be outside Pakistain. Should the public and the media interpret that Mr Zardari is in self-exile, rattled by the recent military-led push against alleged corruption in Sindh? Or is the PPP's real message that governing Sindh is so easy and problem-free that it can be done remotely from ultra-luxurious Dubai? It may have seemed impossible, but the PPP government in Sindh appears to be on the verge of outdoing the Aslam Raisani-led previous provincial government in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
in its indifference -- and its indifference to its tragically terrible reputation. Distressing as it may be from a democratic point of view, the juxtaposition between an alert military and disinterested civilians is there for all to see. When a security tragedy strikes, such as the Safoora Goth carnage, the military is seen to go into overdrive. When a human crisis hits, such as the heatwave-related deaths, the civilians are seen decamping to Dubai. Truly, what is the PPP thinking?

Two Killed in Boko Haram Raid on Army Chief's Village
[AnNahar] Suspected Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
gunnies have raided the village of Nigeria's army chief in northeast Borno state, killing two residents and setting fire to several homes, residents said Tuesday.

Dozens of Boko Haram fighters stormed Buratai, the native village of chief of army staff Major General ‎Tukur Yusuf Buratai, ‎around 7:00 pm (1800 GMT) on Monday night, shooting indiscriminately and forcing residents to flee into the bush.

The assault was followed by a failed suicide kaboom at a military checkpoint in the town of Biu, 25 kilometers (15 miles) away, residents and vigilantes assisting the military in fighting Boko Haram said.

The raid in Buratai follows a similar Boko Haram attack in April where 20 people were killed and more than half of the village was razed to the ground, including the army chief's own home.

In Monday's attack, witnesses said the Lions of Islam seized two male residents and slit their throats before setting fire to homes.

"They slaughtered two people they apprehended while trying to flee the village and burnt more than 30 homes," Buratai resident Tanimu Mudi told AFP.

Yuram Bura, a vigilante working with the Nigerian military, confirmed the raid, saying: "There was a an attack on Buratai yesterday (Monday) night by Boko Haram gunnies where they cut the throats of two people and burnt several homes."

On Tuesday, a failed jacket wallah injured a a female member of a local vigilante group that has been fighting Boko Haram alongside the military when he attempted to set off his vest at a security checkpoint outside Biu.

"The bomber's gait gave him away as he walked towards the security post because it was evident he was carrying something under his dress which raised our suspicion‎," local vigilante Babagana Maina told AFP.

"When he realized he had been exposed he detonated the explosives before reaching the security post, slightly injuring a female vigilante on her shoulder."

Biu, the largest town in southern Borno, 180 kilometers from Borno state capital Maiduguri, has been hit by several deadly suicide and kabooms ‎targeting markets and bus stations blamed on Boko Haram.

The Boko Haram insurgency has killed more than 15,000 people in Nigeria since 2009.

#6  You have really hit the mark there Mr. G. It has been my experience that in this country the ones who claim to be African American are so inclined. The Africans I have met have little in common with these people. Then I have seen them actively avoid African Americans because they are so full of hatred for everyone and each other. Now those of christian faith are different. Great interaction and more positive outlook on life.
I am not surprised we were not informed prior to Lynch being confirmed concerning her background. I believe it was a quality appreciated by the O group.

#7  When exactly did the USA left switch from being in love with Israel and it's kibbutz structure to hating Israel?

The change started after the 1967 war, when Yasser Arafat's Fatah became a Soviet client as the PLO, sold to the world as the romantically violent "native resistance" to Jewish colonization. It accelerated when Menachem Begin beat the Labour party to govern from the right, and Benjamin Netanyahu pulled an early Scott Walker, reducing the power of the unions and moving the economy in a capitalist direction.

Iraq
ISIS fighter humiliated on TV for killing 60 unarmed Iraqi army cadets
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A bad boy of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group who faces death penalty for murdering 60 unarmed Iraqi army cadets, appeared in front of news cameras where he was forced to chew a sandal.

The bad boy identified as Adnan Abdul Ridha was reportedly placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
by the Iraqi security forces for his role in mass execution of around 770 Iraqi air force cadets.

The mass execution took place last year at the Tikrit Air Academy (formerly called COB Speicher).

At least 24 people were sentenced to death for their role in the massacre by an Iraqi court which used satellite images where the massacre took place as well as ISIS propaganda video of the killings.

According to the local media reports, Ridha has confessed he was involved in the mass execution and massacred 60 students at Speicher Air Base and being a member of ISIS.

The local Al-Mirbad newspaper quoting Ridha during an interview with the Iraqi media outlets reported that the man confessed he took 60 of the captured students, put them on the ground and then shot them in the head.

Ridha also confessed to working for terror group Al-Qaeda in 1996 and that his newest employers ISIS are funded by money from Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, according to the paper.

This comes as the terror group released a new horrific video of the mass execution earlier this month which contained footage from the previously released video along with new scenes.

The 22-minute-video showed hundreds of army cadets falling out of dump trucks and are forced to lay down next to each other in shallow mass graves before being rubbed out one by one.

At one point of the video, the ISIS murderous Moslems allow a condemned Shia to pry one more time following his plea but they then shoot him in the back of the head.

An excavator is also shown in the video to move piles of bodies after they were brutally rubbed out by the ISIS fanatics.

The government forces and allied fighters retook Tikrit from the ISIS murderous Moslems in April and exhumed around 600 bodies from the mass graves.

According to the highest estimates, around 1,700 army cadets were captured by the ISIS murderous Moslems after they captured the military base last year.

Italy Arrests Two Suspected of Planning IS-Style Attacks

group and plotting to carrying out attacks in the country.

The Tunisian and Pak had opened a Twitter account on which they posted threatening messages written by hand and held up in front of historic Italian monuments, from the Colosseum in Rome to the Duomo in Milan.

"We are in your streets, we are everywhere. We identify our targets while we wait for zero hour", said one message, written in Italian, French and Arabic.

Milan prosecutor Maurizio Romanelli said, however, that the sites in question "were never in danger" because the pair, based in Brescia in northern Italia, had not set their plans in motion.

"The two men were referring to several targets, particularly the Ghedi military base" near Brescia, "but also other possible targets including law enforcement forces," he said at a presser.

The two men had also downloaded from the Internet a manual on bomb-making and how to disguise their identities online, he said.
That clearly worked really well.
"This morning's arrests show our system to prevent terrorist attacks works. It confirms that Internet controls allow us to take preventative action with great efficiency," Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said.
Ynet points out that the Tunisian has achieved the great age of 35, much too old for this to count as a childish prank.

India-Pakistan
Father of Pakistan's nuclear bomb says deal may have saved Iran from disaster
[FOXNEWS] Dr. A.Q. Khan, known as the father of Pakistan’s nuclear bomb and a widely suspected supplier of nuclear technology to Iran and North Korea, told Fox News Tuesday that the Islamic republic’s recent nuclear deal with the United States and its negotiating partners may have saved Iran from disaster, either in the form of an internal coup or external attack.

In an email to FOX News, the Pakistani scientist said the Iranian leadership has “very wisely and pragmatically saved their country from a very bad situation --- call it a disaster, if you like.”

Khan said that if Iran had not agreed to the deal, “ongoing chaos would have left the field open to a military coup sponsored by the West, just as has happened in Egypt.”

Home Front: WoT
Why Lone Wolf Attacks Are So Hard To Predict
[DefenseOne] An FBI analysis of his Google search engine queries revealed a growing interest in martyrdom. In 2013, he reportedly downloaded several videos of Al Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki. His most extreme writings related to Islam come in the form of two religious posts not long before the shooting. They cite martyrdom as a goal but give no explicit indication of an impending attack. The FBI is continuing to investigate Abdulazeez's social media presence, looking for communication exchanges between Abdulazeez and members of known groups like the Islamic State. But none have the fact that no such communication indicators have emerged so far, and that suggests that they likely won't any time soon.

In retrospect, those various actions and clues may suggest a terrorist ready to pop. And that's the danger of retrospective analysis. Even those indicators that have the appearance of being indicative don't speak to a cause of violence. Rather, they are unremarkable behaviors that are correlated with a violent incident. (Many people, including Defense One reporters, have seen videos featuring Anwar al-Awlaki and yet have resisted homicidal behavior.) The amount of open-source data available to law enforcement, or journalists, makes correlational analysis easier, but not necessarily more valid.

#4  The fact that Abdulazee traveled to Jordan for several months in 2014 and returned should have invited a visit from the FBI to inquire about his extended trip to an Islamic country. That visit might have been enough to trigger his paranoia about being watched and discouraged further considerations of jihad. Maybe ATF Form 4473 (Firearms Transaction Form) should ask if you are a Muslim?

2. Monitor everyone coming out of certain Mosques. Perhaps even close the mosque and search the site for toxins that are causing so many people to go Jihadi for no reason. Since the preacher-guy is most likely to have a heavy dose he might require a thorough hospitalization and battery of tests to ensure his health and welfare.

Iraq
ISIL Commanders Flee Iraq's Fallujah to Turkey: Sources
[ALMANAR.LB] ISIL Commanders in the Iraqi city of Fallujah reportedly fled to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
after Iraqi forces closed in on terrorist groups in the Western restive province of Anbar.

Abdulrahman al-Namrawee, the head of a local council in Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
said on Tuesday night that the ISIL commanders fled to Turkey after Iraqi security forces and the fighters of the Popular Mobilization units surrounded the city.

He said the commanders pushed their way through the Western part of the city of Ramadi -- the capital of Anbar -- to Syria and then entered Turkey.

Namrawee's narrative has not been confirmed by higher-ranking officials in Iraq yet.

The government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
has been accused of being one of the main supporters of the turban groups operating in Syria, with reports saying that Ankara actively trains and arms the hard boyz in Syria and facilitates their safe passage into the country.

Pro-Iran Research Group: Turkish President's Daughter Runs Secret IS Hospital
[BREITBART] The Center for Research on Globalization, a Canada-based research group that claims to be "committed to curbing the tide of globalisation and disarming the new world order," has released an alleged interview with a Turkish nurse who claims to have worked in a clandestine Turkish hospital for maimed ISIS jihadists run by the daughter of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
.
The nurse, who declines to be named and is only identified as a 34-year-old Alawite Turk, claims to have worked for seven weeks at a secret hospital in the Turkish city of Sanliurfa and seen Sumeyye Erdogan running operations there. "Almost every day several khaki Turkish military trucks were bringing scores of severely injured, shaggy ISIS rebels to our secret hospital and we had to prepare the operating rooms and help doctors in the following procedures," the nurse says.

She adds that she had to hide her Alawite Moslem faith in order to work at the hospital. "The fact is that I adhere to the Alawi faith and since Erdogan took the helm of the country the system shows utter contempt for the Alawi minority," she claims. She claims to have left the hospital upon being discovered as an Alawite.

Gov. Walker Issues Order To Arm Wisconsin National Guard
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] Republican Gov. Scott Walker issued an executive order Tuesday authorizing Wisconsin National Guard personnel to carry firearms while on duty in the wake of an attack on a pair of military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The governor's order directed Maj. Gen. Don Dunbar, who oversees the Wisconsin National Guard, to arm guard personnel "as reasonably necessary." Walker also said in a news release that he ordered Dunbar to review the long-term security plans for all of the guard's facilities.

"Safety must be our top priority, especially in light of the horrific attack in Chattanooga," Walker said in the release.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Kerry: US to Lose 'All Credibility' if Congress Rejects Nuclear Deal
[ALMANAR.LB] US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
voiced concern if the US congress failed to approve a nuclear deal signed with Iran last week.

According to a report by the National Pubic Radio on Tuesday, he said "if Congress or a future president reverses a nuclear control agreement with Iran, U.S. credibility will suffer."

He was talking to the news website just after hosting Cuba's foreign minister at the State Department.

Kerry defended the B.O. regime's stance on both countries, and said if diplomatic relations with Cuba or a nuclear deal with Iran were scuttled -- either by a future president or Congress -- it would hurt the U.S.

"But I think it'd be a terrible mistake. The vast majority of the American people believe this is a very good thing to do. ... As time goes on, people will see the benefits that come from this policy, he said.

"We had diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union," Kerry continued. "We had diplomatic relations with then-called 'Red China'. We have to have relationships with countries to do business. And American citizens get hurt when we don't do that."

According to the NPR, "On Iran, Kerry said if Congress failed to approve a nuclear deal with the country, the results would be disastrous. I'm telling you, the U.S. will have lost all credibility," Kerry told Inskeep. 'We will not be in the hunt. And if we then decided to use military [after a deal fails], do you believe the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
will be with us? Do you think our European colleagues will support us? Not on your life.'"
