#1  And after reading all that, my dearly departed Intruders cost $34 million ( in 1998 bucks) had a payload of >15,000 and range of 3245 miles and could fly in all weather. yeah stealthy as a brick, and needed some air to air support, but having 30 500 pound bombs rain down on you could really screw up your to do list. and they were already paid for.

#2  Yes but with the capture of just one drone, an enemy can jam the signal and just watch them fall out of the sky.

Eyeing Syria, U.S. Paratroopers Rehearse Seizure of Chemical Arms
[NTI] The Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with a mission to strengthen global security by reducing the risk of use and preventing the spread of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons and to work to build the trust, transparency, and security that are preconditions to the ultimate fulfillment of the Non-Proliferation Treaty’s goals and ambitions.

All the mindless beltway bloviating about "no boots on the ground" is bullshi*. Bombing won't get it. Never has, never will.

#1  You can guarantee destruction of the weapons without a single boot on the ground. Just be willing to accept the collateral damage.

Problem is nobody has enough courage to tell the idiot in cheif that's how the math works. To preserve innocent Syrian lives for the most part, some of them will have to die in collateral damage in full striked to destroy the chem weps. Either that, or be prepared to lose a American lives in Syria - plus the inevitable sh*tstorm that having troops on the ground will cause. Far more I'd wager, than simply leaving a large smoking crater next to the "Baby Milk Factory" sign.

10-Year-Old Girl Accused Of Raping 4-Year-Old During Game Of 'Doctor'
[HOUSTON.CBSLOCAL] A 10-year-old girl is facing rape charges from playing an alleged game of "doctor" with a group of children from her housing complex.
Quick, Ethel! My pills!
The girl, who is only identified as "Ashley," was charged by police for aggravated sexual assault.
Oh, the depravity!
In April, Ashley was among a group of children who were playing doctor, KRIV-TV reports. A neighbor saw the children and called the mother of a 4-year-old boy who was also playing in the group. Houston police say that Ashley was inappropriately touching the 4-year-old boy.
"She wuz touchin' his pee-pee!"
"I've never dealt with a child this young being accused of a crime," Quanell X, who is working with Ashley's family, told KRIV.
Playing doctor! The brazen hussy!
"In fact this was nothing more than inappropriate horseplay that has now led to a child that is 10-years-old being charged with aggravated rape."
Ummm... "Rape" involved penetration. What was she touching the child with?
Ashely was held for four days in the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center in June.
"Into the slammer wit' yez!"
"Can I bring my dolly?"

Ashley's mother calls the situation a "nightmare."
Another tiny episode in our long, sad national nightmare. We can't spank them for being naughty anymore, so we incarcerate them.
"It's a nightmare even having to go through something like this because that's my baby, that's my baby and just the thought of her going through something like this it hurts me," the mom, who wanted to remain anonymous, told KRIV.
The thought of living in a society that couldn't handle something like this with a bit of grace and humor triggers my gag reflex.
She went on to state that she was not allowed to sit-in on the 45-minute questioning of her daughter.
"We don't want her coachin' the little pervert. We got a string of unsolved "doctor" cases, and she's a prime suspect!
Ashley's hearing will be in October for sexual assault charges.
How many of us would have remained sexually uneducated had we not met The Doctor?

#4  A very slanted headline

1. It's what the article title says. Neither Fred or "Rantburg" made it up.

2. The opening paragraph reads:

Now maybe it's me, but that opening paragraph rather backs up the headline, no?

and Rantburg should be ashamed

Palestinians call off peace talks after clash
[USATODAY] A Paleostinian official said planned peace talks with the Israelis scheduled for Monday have been called off following a deadly clash in the West Bank.
They got their prisoner release. The purpose was accomplished.
Reads that way, doesn't it. Now the Israelis will have to round up the released goons all over again. Maybe a few of them will 'resist'...
Israeli soldiers killed three Paleostinians Monday in festivities during an arrest raid in the West Bank outside Jerusalem. The violence came as Israel and the Paleostinians were expected to begin rounds of peace talks, the first such meetings in five years.

The Paleostinian official said the Paleostinians decided to postpone Monday's meeting to protest the killings. He said the Paleostinians are also upset about an Israeli announcement on Sunday pushing forward with new settlement construction in east Jerusalem.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria: UN Inspectors 'Shot At By Snipers'
[NEWS.SKY] Weapons inspectors investigating an alleged chemical attack in Damascus have been shot at by snipers, a front man for the UN has said.

The team's lead vehicle was "deliberately shot at multiple times" as they left a government checkpoint during a visit to part of the city where hundreds of people were allegedly killed, Martin Nesirky told Sky News.

None of the inspectors, who were dressed in body armour, are believed to have been injured in the attack, which came after two mortar bombs landed close to their hotel.

"The inspectors are determined to carry out the mission they are mandated to carry out," Mr Nesirky said. "But it's obvious that all sides need to extend their co-operation so they can conduct this work safely."
Mr. Nesirky, without meaning to, just hit the nail on the head...
Mr Nesirky said it was not clear who was responsible for the sniper attack, although Bashar al Assad's regime blamed the bombings on rebel fighters.

After the shooting, the UN inspectors were able to change vehicles and are now meeting victims of the alleged chemical attack.

The Assad regime said the inspections in Zamalka and Ein Tarma districts will prove allegations that chemical weapons were used against civilians, including children, were "lies".

The opposition claimed 1,300 people were killed, while Doctors Without Borders said 355 people died in hospital from "neurotoxic" symptoms.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon said the people of Syria deserved to know the truth, adding: "We cannot allow impunity in what appears to be a grave crime against humanity."

To me, the line that makes sense that the Syrians got carried away with some of Saddam's extra nerve gas and tried to cover it up. They should have called in the UN right away. It would have crushed any sympathy the rebels might have locally and internationally if they were found to be the culprits. Instead, Pencilneck chose to deny the UN and try to destroy any evidence with artillery barrages.

Home Front: WoT
IED set off at Oregon war memorial
Someone ignited an improvised explosive device next to a war memorial cross that a prominent atheist group wanted removed from a public park in Coos Bay, Ore., an attorney for the city told Fox News.

An official statement on the city’s website called it an act of “criminal mischief” and stated that an ”unknown person(s) vandalized the memorial with an improvised explosive device.”

“We unfortunately are now to the point where explosive devices are being placed next to crosses,” said Hiram Sasser, director of litigation at the Liberty Institute.

The cross is still standing, but did sustain superficial damage, Coos Bay City Manager Roger Craddock told Fox News.

“Other than some charred marks on the cement structure there was no real damage to the memorial,” he said.

The blast startled local residents as well as dispatchers at the local police station, according to local news reports.

The cross had been donated to the city in 1972 but had become the center of controversy recently when the Freedom From Religion Foundation sent city officials a letter demanding they remove the cross.

“We have no objection to the veterans’ memorials,” FFRF attorney Rebecca Markert wrote to the city. “Our objection is to the message of endorsement of Christianity over other religions and non-religions.”

The FFRF is a Wisconsin-based group of communists freethinkers, progressives atheists and anarchists agnostics that has a history of targeting small towns and communities on issues regarding public displays of the Christian faith.

“These people will stop at nothing to intimidate communities to tear down their veterans memorials,” Sasser told Fox News. “Now the crazies are trying to blow one up.”

Police are working with explosives specialists from the Oregon State Police but so far they do not have any suspects.

Sasser said it’s fortunate no one was hurt by the blast. “This memorial is right next to the area where many children play,” Sasser told Fox News. “A child could have been killed or wounded by the IED exploding.”

In May the cross was vandalized. Someone wrote the word “Remove” in the middle of the cross along with a dotted line and arrow to indicate where to “cut.”

Sasser called on the FFRF to stop “fanning the flames of hostility toward veterans memorials.”

“There are consequences for fomenting hatred for what were once obscure veterans memorials,” he said. “The FFRF should immediately condemn this dangerous criminal act.”

Home Front: Culture Wars
Racial equality, America 2013
h/t Instapundit
Racism should make people pretty angry. But for that very reason charges of racism should only be leveled carefully.

George Zimmerman wasn't motivated by race in confronting Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman, a Hispanic, was himself one-eighth black. The prosecution in his case produced no statements by Zimmerman showing any racial bias.

Alas, most people didn't have time to follow the trial's day-to-day testimony, and obviously didn't know that. They got summaries presented by the mainstream media. NBC selectively edited a 9-1-1 call to make Zimmerman sound racist. President Obama pronounced the killing as racially motivated, first personalizing the case by comparing Trayvon to a hypothetical son of his, then his younger self, and then suggesting Trayvon was followed because of his race.

Now, race appears central in the recent murder of Australian Christopher Lane in Oklahoma, but the discussion seems to be about almost everything else, especially gun control.

..many attacks on innocent people
[random whites]
have taken place in revenge for Trayvon's death.

President Obama would probably have more credibility on race issues with America as a whole if he criticized crimes against whites or Hispanics in the same terms as he uses when discussing attacks on blacks. He has kept mum on violence by blacks against whites, even when there is evidence of racial animus, such as in Christopher Lane's death. When Obama's deputy press secretary was asked about Lane's murder on Wednesday, he claimed, "I'm not familiar with it, actually" and said that he couldn't comment on it anyway because he "wouldn't want to get ahead of the legal process here." That's hardly the approach the White House took to the Martin or Gates cases.

Would it really hurt the president to speak out against all forms of racism? It's what we were promised. A little balance would help bring Americans together.

Housing Minister Ariel: Two-state solution is unrealistic, will never happen
A two-state solution is an unrealistic resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Housing and Construction Minister Uri Ariel said on Sunday evening as he helped dedicate two new neighborhoods of 160 homes in the West Bank settlement of Kedumim.

“Those who are here understand why the vision of two states is unrealistic and will ever happen. Those who think they can force us to build only within the Auschwitz borders are wrong,” Ariel said.

Pakistan floods affect 1.5 million
[Dawn] Floods and heavy monsoon rains have now killed 178 people and affected 1.5 million across Pakistain in the last three weeks, disaster management officials said on Sunday in updated figures.

"At least 178 people have died and 1,503,492 others affected by recent monsoon rains and floods across Pakistain," a senior National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) official told AFP.

He said that the rains had maimed 855 people, affected 5,615 villages and destroyed 20,312 houses all over the country.

On Wednesday the figures stood at nearly one million people affected and 139 dead.

Nearly 350 relief camps have been set up to help people, mostly in the central province of Punjab, the southern province of Sindh and the southwestern province of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, the official said.

Further heavy monsoon rains are expected in Pakistain next month, but the NDMA is fully prepared, he said.

Pakistain, which has suffered from monsoon floods for the last three years, has been criticised for not doing more to mitigate against the dangers posed by seasonal rains washing away homes and farmland.

Streets in all major cities including Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, Lahore and Islamabad suffer intermittent flooding due to downpours, damaging roads and homes.

In 2010, the worst floods in the country's history killed almost 1,800 people and affected 21 million.

UN refutes Dar Al-Ifta claims
[Libya Herald] The United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Support Mission in Libya has rejected claims by the Grand Mufti's office, the Dar Al-Ifta, that it supports the division of the country. It says that it is "most surprised by a recent statement which came from the Dar Al-Ifta on security conditions in the country in which it refers to the 'United Nations calling for the division of the country'".

On Wednesday, following a meeting of members of the Dar Al-Ifta council, called to Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
by the Grand Mufti to discuss the security situation in the country, his office put out a statement implying that the UN supported the division of Libya. "No group, entity or institution in the country has have the right to use this current time in the absence of law to achieve gains by force,be it through murder, or bombings and violence, or calls for division of the country, or regionalism under any name, or federalism," the statement read, "because Libyans did not give their lives in order to invite the UN to divide the country".

In its response, UNSMIL has said that it the inclusion of the UN in the statement was unjustified and unfounded.

It said in a statement issued yesterday, that the UN had not, in any manner whatsoever, called for the splitting of Libya or for a federal state. It firmly supported the country's unity and respected its national illusory sovereignty.

Attempts to contact the Dar Al-Ifta office for comment today were unsuccessful.

The preacher was attacked by some of those who were praying after he finished his prayers in Saudi Arabia's Riyadh.

Earlier, AFP reported that a top Saudi Arabian Al-Qaeda member had criticised King Abdullah's support for the Egyptian army's ouster of Islamist former President Mohamed Morsi, which took place on 3 July after nationwide anti-Morsi protests.

"One of their latest crimes is supporting the secular forces in Egypt against the government of Morsi," the reglious affairs chief of the Yemen-based Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Ibrahim al-Rubaish said.

Clan fighting over pasture kills six in Somaliland
Buroa, Somalia -- At least six people were reportedly killed and eleven others were wounded in a fighting erupted between two fraternal clans in Somaliland's Oog village, Garowe Online reports.

The militiamen which belong to the two clans began to fight last Wednesday, after claims over pastureland ownership degenerated into the killing of a man near water borehole situating some 8 KMs north of Oog.
If it's good pastureland, it's gotta be Oog...
Following the killing, armed confrontations lasted for two days and the wounded persons were taken to nearby Buroa town of Togdheer region for medical treatment.

According to the officials of Somalia's separatist administration of Somaliland, truckloads of government soldiers reached the vicinity to arrange ceasefire and efforts to defuse the tensions are underway.

On the other hand, clan militias belong to one of the opposing sides opened fire on trucks carrying Somaliland forces on Saturday but security officials declined to comment on the incident.

Britain
Muslim Brotherhood leader hiding in London
The new spiritual leader of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood is hiding in London in fear of assassination, it can be disclosed.

Gomaa Amin is thought to have been made head of the Islamist organization last week after the arrest of his predecessor in Cairo by Egypt's military rulers. Amin, 79, had flown to London about two months ago for medical treatment and as a result was not detained when the army seized power.

Amin's presence in London is a potential headache for British officials who may be obliged to provide protection for such a controversial figure. There is concern that Amin's residency in London will attract militant Islamists. In the 1980s and 1990s, Britain largely operated an 'open-door' policy allowing extremists to live in exile in London to escape persecution from authoritarian regimes in the Arab world.

Intelligence Branch Investigating Tripoli Bombings
[An Nahar] State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr tasked on Sunday the Army Intelligence and ISF Intelligence Bureau with investigating the bombings in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
.

They will be responsible for carrying out the preliminary investigations, gathering evidence, and sweeping the scene of the blast sites.

He called for carrying out DNA tests on the remains of the unidentified victims of the Friday's bombings.

In the meantime, the army had stepped up its security measures in Tripoli in light of the twin bombings, reported the National News Agency on Sunday.

It said that it set up checkpoints at the entrances of the city and within its neighborhoods and main squares.

The army inspected vehicles and the identification papers of the drivers.

Meanwhile,
...back at the buffalo wallow, Standing Buffalo drew a bead on his old enemy and squeezed the trigger...
the Higher Relief Council began inspecting the houses that were damaged by the Taqwa mosque blast.

The Ogero telecommunication company began checking the telephone lines that were damaged in the bombing near al-Salam mosque.

Activists have been busy cleaning the scene of the blasts and removing the rubble.

Mustaqbal
... the Future Movement, political party led by Saad Hariri...
MP Bahia Hariri paid a visit to the city, including the blast sites, where she condemned the attacks, linking them to the one that took place in the Ruwais area in Beirut's southern suburb on August 16.

"Those committing such crimes are seeking to target the whole of Leb," she remarked.

"They are targeting the country's diversity and it is time that the Lebanese people live in peace and security," she declared.

Powerful boom-mobiles went kaboom! outside two Sunni mosques in Tripoli on Friday.

The first bomb struck in the city center at the al-Salam mosque as worshipers were still inside.

The second kaboom struck just minutes later outside al-Taqwa mosque, about two kilometers away, near the port.

Judicial sources told An Nahar daily Sunday that the corpse count reached 45 with at least 500 maimed.

Chief of Staff orders Zawia and Warshefana fighters to hand over killers
[Libya Herald] The Chief of Staff has insisted that those involved in the killings that triggered Friday's deadly festivities between Zawia and the Warshefana had to be handed over to the authorities as soon as possible, Chief of Staff front man Colonel Ali Sheikhi told the Libya Herald. Otherwise Congress would be forced to send in troops to seize them and others in areas which are still a refuge for wanted people.

"These bloody acts block Libya's progress and the Chief of Staff (Brigadier-General Abdulsalam Al-Obaidi) demands the two sides to show restraint to stop bloodshed," Sheikhi said.

Condemning the festivities and expressing regret for the victims who died as a result, the presidency of the General Staff had said that the two sides had to show restraint in future and to give greater priority to the interests of Libya than to than to their "narrow self-interest".

Sheikhi added that troops from the military police and Brigade No. 10 Special Forces had been ordered to separate the two side and secure roads in the area. They would take their positions as soon as the fighting fully stopped.

There is a long history of rivalry between Zawia and the Warshefana but it was exacerbated during the revolution when Zawia rose up against Qadaffy while the Warshefana were generally seen as supporting him.

Moscow Warns West against 'Tragic Mistake' in Syria
[An Nahar] Military action against the Syrian regime would be a "tragic mistake", Russia said Sunday, warning the West not to preempt the results of a U.N. probe into alleged deadly chemical attacks.

Moscow warned there was a danger of history repeating itself a decade after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, which it opposed, and urged the United States to refrain from any reckless decision.

"We strongly urge those who, by attempting to impose their own results on the U.N. experts, are raising the possibility of a military operation in Syria to use their common sense and refrain from committing a tragic mistake," foreign ministry front man Alexander Lukashevich said in a statement.

"All this is reminiscent of events from a decade ago, when the United States bypassed the U.N. and used fallacious information on the presence in Iraq of weapons of mass destruction to launch an adventure, the consequences of which are known to all," he said.

Charbel: Same Assailants behind Ruwais, Tripoli Bombings
[An Nahar] Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel stressed that the security forces are doing their utmost in order to thwart attempts to create strife in Lebanon, reported the Kuwait daily al-Seyassah on Sunday.

He told the daily: "The same perpetrators are behind the Ruwais and Tripoli bombings."

He also voiced his fears that more bombings will take place in Lebanon, saying that some difficulties are preventing authorities from imposing security throughout the country.

"No country in the world can completely ensure its own security," clarified Charbel.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the assailants and arrest them, he added.

"Strife is being devised for the whole of Lebanon and not just the region," he said.

Powerful car bombs exploded outside two Sunni mosques in the northern city of Tripoli on Friday.

The first bomb struck in the city center at the al-Salam mosque as worshipers were still inside. The second explosion struck just minutes later outside al-Taqwa mosque, about two kilometers away, near the port.

Caretaker Premier Najib Miqati announced that the explosions killed 35 people and wounded 900 others, including 110 in a critical condition.

A bombing shook the Ruwais neighborhood in Beirut's southern suburbs on August 16, killing 27 people and wounding 336 others.

Buddhist leader in Australia calls for deportation of hate cleric
An Islamic preacher in Adelaide who called for the death of all Buddhists and Hindus should be kicked out of the country, says the head of Australia's Buddhist community.

Australian Buddhist Councils Federation president Kim Hollow said that comments in a video sermon by Sheikh Sharif Hussein urging Allah to kill Buddhists and Hindus "to the very last one" were deplorable and incited hatred and retribution. Hollow said most Muslims in Australia were "peace-loving people" - but urged officials to apply the maximum penalty if the sheikh was charged for the statements.

He said, "Whatever remedies are available through the law should be applied. People who cannot peacefully coexist in this country . . . should be deported. We condemn it, it's totally unacceptable . . . these comments are just as hurtful to the community as physical crimes. We encourage peace-loving Muslims to deal with these people seriously and try to shut them down."

The South Australian Islamic Society has repeatedly condemned the comments and tried to distance itself from the sheikh. The society's treasurer, Waleed Alkhazrajy, said, "The virtue of tolerance and acceptance of people from different religious and political affiliations will always guide the efforts of the Muslim community in their endeavour to continue to contribute to and be an essential part of the wider Australian community." .

This week by the Middle East Media Research Institute published footage showing the Tunisian-born preacher calling Australian soldiers "Crusader pigs" and attacking Jews, former prime minister John Howard and US President Barack Obama.

Police are investigating a video of his sermon for potential "hate crimes". Friends claim it was a heavily edited recording taken from several sermons and "grossly" misrepresented him.
Hmm. Where have I heard that before?
Police visited the sheikh on Thursday and told him they have concerns for his safety. The father-of-six used to preach at the Park Holme Mosque, which in 2007 the Australian government blocked from receiving $250,000 in Saudi Arabian funding.

The Islamic Da'wah Centre was critical of coverage of the issue. A statement on its website said, "We . . . do not condone or support any form of violence or hatred against any group of people whether in Australia or abroad. We condemn any form of sensational fearmongering which is passed off as journalism in the mainstream media."

The Sunday Mail will pay for a one-way ticket back to Tunisia for the sheikh if he calls us on 8206 2000.

Muslim soldiers to visit British schools to counter Islamophobia
In the wake of the killing of Lee Rigby, serving Muslim soldiers are to be sent into schools around the country to counter Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...

Muslim servicemen and women will be asked to address school assemblies with their Christian colleagues in parts of the country that have seen a significant increase in religious hate crimes. They are likely to include past and present Muslim soldiers who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as some who were wounded.

The visits will also be coordinated around school activities to mark the centenary of the First World War next year in which hundreds of thousands of Muslim soldiers fought and died for Britain.

Earlier this month David Cameron visited a mosque in Manchester where a young white Muslim convert described how attitudes to her had changed as a soon as she covered her head with a veil. She told him of feeling hostility from people in the street and in shops, which she had never encountered when she was uncovered. Another woman said she and her friends sometimes "avoided" going into town for fear of abuse over the way they dressed.

Around 650 Muslim soldiers are currently serving across the British armed forces, including many in frontline roles.

Instructed to “make a presentation on a medical topic of his choosing as a culminating exercise of the residency program,” Hasan came up with this: “The Quranic World View As It Relates To Muslims In The U.S. Military.”

So moderate Muslims are rewarded with an opportunity for school Da'wa after a massacre committed by non-moderate Muslims.

"She told him of feeling hostility from people in the street and in shops, which she had never encountered when she was uncovered."

Oh Boo-Hoo-Hoo!
Islam is, among other things, a totalitarian political ideology. The veil is a symbol of said ideology. By wearing the veil she is in fact telling the "people in the street" that she wants to impose a political system on Britain where the "people in the street" would be 5th or 6th class slaves.

We only wish for peace on earth
Where every woman knows her worth
And gals who fool around are slaughtered
And some old coot will buy my daughter
But first, since it's her graduation,
Let's celebrate - with mutilation!
I really hope to see you there,
But please conceal your face and hair.

We only want to get along
We are so weak, you are so strong.
It might be different when we're through,
But now you're many, we are few.
So trust me, when the tables turn,
Your churches are too cute to burn,
And you don't use them anyway,
So we'll just borrow them, okay?

We only want to live as free
As Allan wants us all to be
So all can worship as they please
As long as they can pay the fees.
And infidels whom Allan loathes,
Will please wear tokens on their clothes,
And kindly cease to advertise,
Or else we might put out their eyes.

We only want to live our life
And cut your head off with a knife
If you disdain our Holy Book
Or say the Prophet was a kook
Or worship Sun or Earth or Moon
Or draw an incorrect cartoon
Or laugh at a Satanic Verse
Or voice an un-islamic curse
Or have a beer or sing or dance
Or strut around in saggy pants
Or other things I can't remember -
Do them and you'll be dismembered.

So now I hope that you can see,
We want to live in harmony
Where all God's creatures are connected,
Cherished, guided, and protected.
We wish to coexist with you
(as long as you are not a joo).
So thanks for reading, apes and swine -
Come on in, the water's fine!

Africa Subsaharan
U.N. Opens Probe after Two Die in DR Congo Protest
[An Nahar] The United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
said Sunday it has opened a probe after residents accused U.N. peacekeepers of killing two people who tried to storm its base in the restive eastern city of Goma.

Martin Kobler, head of the U.N.'s MONUSCO mission, said in a statement he "deplored" the deaths and had "asked for an investigation jointly led by DR Congo police and the MONUSCO to be opened."

Witnesses said two peacekeepers from Uruguay rubbed out two people Saturday who were part of a crowd attempting to storm the mission's base near the airport during a protest decrying the U.N.'s inaction in the strife-torn region.

"It was the Uruguayans who opened fire on our group. Two people were killed instantly and four others were maimed and rushed to hospital," Augustin Matendo, one of the protesters, told Agence La Belle France Presse.

A military source who spoke on condition of anonymity said that "the Uruguayan troops were overcome by the crowd which was trying to enter their camp and shot to disperse people."

MONUSCO was not immediately available to comment on the claim.

But Uruguayan President Jose Mujica told local radio that the peacekeepers from his country were not to blame, and "have acted appropriately, complying with all protocols in place in these cases."

Mujica pointed the finger of blame at DR Congo police, saying they were responsible for the deadly fire.

Trenton ties record for most homicides in a year
[MYFOXNY] Trenton has tied its record for most homicides in a year. Authorities say 26-year-old city resident Jafar Lewis was shot and killed Friday night during a confrontation on a city street, making him the 31st person killed in Trenton this year. That ties the record set in 2005.
"Jafar Lewis, come on down!... Oh. Sorry. I mean, 'we feel your family's pain.'"
It's not yet clear what sparked the dispute that led to Lewis' death.

Authorities say he was in a car with some other people and the assailant's vehicle was alongside that car when the dispute got heated. Both men then exited their vehicles, and the shooting occurred around 9:20 p.m. on Middle Rose Street.

Lewis was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead early Saturday. The assailant fled the scene and remained at large Saturday.

#1  Pikers. In the early 1990's, the city of Dallas (TX) finished the year with nearly 1,000 murders. Not quite three per day.

Trenton is on the way to 48 for the year. Of course, it's probably nowhere near the million or so that Dallas was.

China-Japan-Koreas
N. Korea Says Peace 'Dearer than Anything Else'
[An Nahar] North Korea's top military official said Pyongyang did not want war and valued peace above all, as the two Koreas forge ahead with plans for their first family reunions in three years.

Friday's agreement to hold the reunion event next month has deepened signs of rapprochement after months of tension, with Pyongyang also offering to revive a joint industrial project with Seoul.

"Peace is dearer to us than anything else as our general goal is to build an economic power and improve the standard of people's living," Choe Ryong-Hae, vice marshal of the Korean People's Army, said at a political meeting in Pyongyang on Saturday.

The comment was relayed by the North's news wire KCNA, which said the meeting was an annual event to celebrate the Songun (army-first) policy set by late leader Kim Dear Leader Jong-Il
... hereditary dictator of North Korea. His definition of reunification isn't the same as the definition in Seoul...
.

"The Korean people do not war but hope for averting a fratricidal war and reunifying the country... peacefully at any cost," Choe said.

The communist state would make "every possible effort to prevent a new war" on the Korean peninsula and to boost "friendly and cooperative relations" with the rest of the world, he added.

Choe, the director of the army's powerful political bureau, is a close aide to leader Kim Jong-Un. He visited China in May as Kim's special envoy in a move apparently aimed at mending ties soured by North Korea's nuclear test in February.

The North, after issuing threats of nuclear war against Seoul and Washington in the months after the widely condemned atomic test, has recently change tack with a flurry of conciliatory gestures.

It agreed to a proposal by South Korean President Park Geun-Hye to hold the reunions for families separated by the 1950-53 Korean War, and accepted some preconditions set by Seoul for reopening the joint industrial complex at Kaesong.

South Korea's Red Thingy on Saturday announced a list of 500 potential candidates for the reunions to be held September 25-30 at the North's Mount Kumgang resort. The list was generated by a computer taking age and family background into account.

How about if you are the Captain in command of your Company? Ready to give that Order and accomplish the Mission? Look your men in the ye and motivate them.

Ready to fight to set the suffering Moslems free? yeah? How free are the Moslems in Iraq...and they just love us and thank us and are we ready to do it again?

Why, of course we are...anything for the gratitude of the American people down at Dairy Queen. And Bruce and Dwayne in the present Administration....the whole Platoon is ready to do anything for Americans like that. You betcha.

#10  Pretty simple:no boots on the ground. C3I decapitation of the Syrian Govt, AND AlQ in Syria, arm the Kurds, and then get the popcorn going. Destroy WMDs, and destroy any organized group backed by either alliance (Russian/Iranian/Norks or Soddys/Turks).

The time to do this was long ago, back when the rebels still had some liberty-minded folk at thier leadership tables. Instead Obumble dicked around until most of htem were killed, and Al Qaeda and other radical (Muslim Brotherhood anyone?) group moved into the vacuum.

There are not winners in this one, only survivors. Key is to weaken any surviving group to where it cannot effectively take power, nor take possession of any WMD in the Bekka or other places. Sustained internal civil war fueled by various internal hatreds and armed by outsiders. Thats about the "best" outcome for now for anyone except the poor bastards in Syria.

#10  Ugh, thats good. Me like. You know the dating scene has always be difficult for men; say, I remember once upon a time a long long time ago...You know how they always talk about caveman days?. Well thats because women hated caves. To date in those times when men saw a pretty woman he bonked her on the head and dragged her to his cave. When she woke up he was in trouble. The cave was dark, damp, had snakes, and people just tracked in dirt all day. The worst part was there was no toilet seat!!. So she demanded better and left. So the caveman builds her a tree condo. He gathers game for food then knocks at the door. She answers and sees the deer laying on the floor. She says OH NO I'm going to be be picking up hairballs all week. Ugh, the man said and walks off to his man cave. :)What did I do?...Women. :(

Iraq
Iraq attacks including Baghdad blasts kill 23
[Al Ahram] A series of attacks in Storied Baghdad
...located along the Tigris River, founded in the 8th century, home of the Abbasid Caliphate...
and north Iraq killed 23 people on Sunday amid a surge in violence that authorities have failed to stem despite wide-ranging operations targeting krazed killers.

Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has vowed to press on with his anti-insurgent campaign, which has reportedly led to the arrest of hundreds of alleged Death Eaters and the killing of dozens.

But analysts and diplomats say authorities have failed to tackle the root causes the worst violence since 2008, namely anger in the Sunni Arab community over perceived ill treatment at the hands of the Shiite-led authorities and security forces.

Sunday's violence struck the Storied Baghdad area and in predominantly Sunni Arab towns and cities to the north, but the deadliest of the attacks hit the capital.

A series of bombings -- two boom-mobiles and a roadside kaboom -- went off between 4:00 pm (1300 GMT) and 5:30 pm (1430 GMT) in Storied Baghdad and its outskirts, killing nine people and wounding 22 others, officials said.

The blasts struck a variety of neighbourhoods across the city, and were the latest in a burgeoning trend of krazed killer attacks in the afternoon and evening in Storied Baghdad.

In previous years, deadly violence has typically been set off during morning rush hour when much of the capital is in gridlock.

Attacks on Sunday also hit Salaheddin, Nineveh and Diyala provinces to the north of Storied Baghdad.

The deadliest of those occurred near the town of Balad, where a boom-mobile killed five people and maimed 21 others, among them a senior judge who was the apparent target of the blast, according to police and a doctor.

In restive Nineveh province, gunnies opened fire on a van ferrying soldiers from Storied Baghdad to their unit in the scenic provincial capital djinn-infested Mosul, killing five of them, an army officer and a doctor said.

Also in Nineveh, three separate attacks by gunnies left a soldier and two civilians dead, including a member of the Shabak minority.

The 30,000-strong Shabak community mostly lives near Iraq's border with Turkey.

They speak a distinct language and largely follow a faith that is a blend of Shiite Islam and local beliefs. Shabaks are frequently targeted in attacks by krazed killers.

Two bombings at a house in Baquba, north of Storied Baghdad, killed a child and maimed nine others, according to police and medical sources.

India Police Arrest Last of Five Wanted in Gang-Rape Case
[An Nahar] Mumbai police Sunday locked away
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
the fifth and final member of a gang suspected of raping a photographer, a crime that reignited anger about women's safety in India following a similar attack last year.

The latest arrest came as the victim's family urged the nation, including the media, to continue to fight for justice "for all those victims and their families" who have gone through "the same hell as we have."

The family said it was "optimistic" their daughter's case would be fast -tracked and the "severest of punishments" handed down to those responsible, because of ongoing campaigns and a tougher sex crime law introduced earlier this year.

"This will ensure that even the most sick-minded think twice before they act in such an inhuman and insensitive way," it said in a statement.

The group allegedly trapped and repeatedly raped the woman, said to be in her early 20s, on Thursday in an abandoned mill in an upmarket district of central Mumbai, where she was on assignment for a magazine.

Hamas denies setting up training camps with Egypt's Brotherhood in Gaza
[Al Ahram] Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, the Paleostinian Islamic resistance movement, has denied establishing joint training camps with the Moslem Brüderbund in southern Gazoo.

Samy Abu-Zuhra, Hamas spokesperson, said in a presser Sunday.

"The movement expresses its deep discontent with Egyptian media reports about establishing joint training camps for Al-Qassam hard boyz and Moslem Brüderbund members in southern Gazoo."

Abu-Zuhra added: "Hamas denies these allegations and considers them as lies inciting against our Paleostinian people and resistance forces, as well as justifying the unjustifiable campaign against [Egypt-Gazoo border] tunnels and the almost permanent closure of the Rafah crossing."

The presser comes after Egyptian military spokesperson Ahmed Ali announced on Friday that security forces killed 78 suspected Islamic hard boys, including 32 foreigners, in recent operations in Sinai. The exact nationalities of the foreigners has not been declared.

Hamas, which controls the Gazoo Strip, is the Paleostinian offshot of the Moslem Brüderbund.

Egyptian tourism syndicate calls for delisting Qatar, Turkey as destinations
[Al Ahram] Egypt's Independent General Tourism Workers Syndicate called Sunday for the removal of Turkey and Qatar as tourism destinations as both states refuse to recognise the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi as the result of a popular uprising 30 June.

Bassem Halaqa, head of the syndicate, has been calling Egypt's tour operators to boycott Turkish and Qatari airlines and to use instead the airlines of Arab Gulf States that support the present interim government, such as Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.

Halaqa added in a statement Sunday that the syndicate would not accept both Turkey or Qatar's intervention in Egypt's internal affairs, appealing to Egyptians to follow the Arab Gulf lead and restructure ties with states that still back Morsi and the Moslem Brüderbund.

"It's an expected development, as there are currently political tensions in relations between Egypt and both Qatar and Turkey," Rasha El-Azayzi, the Ministry of Tourism's spokesperson, told Ahram Online.

The syndicate move could negatively impact tourism at a time when Egypt seeks to augment tourism, to boost the state's foreign currency revenues.

According to Al-Azayzi, Egypt saw 38,200 Turkish tourists between January and July of 2013, compared to 24,037 tourists in the same period of last year.

On the other hand, Turkey receives annually around 100,000 Egyptians, mostly for tourism and shopping, according to the Egyptian Travel Agents Association.

13 Colombian soldiers killed by rebels
[CNN] The Colombian military lost 13 members Saturday to an attack by FARC rebels, the country's army said in a statement. Two sergeants and 11 soldiers were killed.

Another soldier was injured in the "terrorist" attack and is receiving medical treatment, the military said.

This is the second incident in two months, reigniting tensions between the two sides, which have been in peace talks that started late last year.

Last month, FARC admitted to capturing U.S. soldier Kevin Scott Sutay after he entered Colombia.

Colombian Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon criticized the apparent kidnapping and called for his immediate release.

Pinzon said the apparent kidnapping showed the rebel group's promises have been disingenuous in the past.

"This organization had promised not to kidnap and they kidnapped an ordinary citizen," he said. "It is absurd that they continue abusing with promises that, it seems, continue to be false."

63 percent of all Mexican state's police have been certified

For a map, click here.

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

With a little more than two months to go to November, 63 percent of all state police police in Mexico have been certified, according to Mexican news accounts.

According to data supplied by Animal Politico news website, 98 percent of all federal police agents have been certified, while 34 Mexican states and entities have lagged behind.

When the administration of President Enrirue Pena Nieto came into office last December, the new Secretaria de Gobierno (SEGOB) or interior minister Miguel Osorio Chong decreed that all police in Mexico, from the federal level to the municipal level would be certified by October 31st or would lose their jobs.

According to the news report, the deadline was extended by the national Chamber of Deputies last year after having been imposed for the same month in 2012.

The Mexican state with the highest percentage of police agents certified is tiny Colima on Mexico's west coast with 3,194 police at 99.53 percent of the total. The Mexican political entity with the highest number of police with the best percentage is Distrito Federal with 105,334 police at 89.34 percent certified.

Only one northern border state is in the top five percentage with Nuevo Leon at 84.73 percent certified of the 15,623, at number four. Sonora state is seventh with 82.86 percent certified with 11,424 police.

On the other end of the scale, two border states are in the bottom ten with Tamaulipas dead last at 39.19 percent certified of 10,303 police, and Chihuahua state with 51.47 percent certified of 15,405 police.

Rounding out the border states, Coahuila stands of 11th with 74.79 percent and 7,250 police, and Baja California at 16th with 68.92 percent and 13,804 police.

The data on police totals are certification percentages from Mexico's Secretariado Ejecutivo del Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Publica (SESNSP).

[Al Ahram] Beni Suef prosecution has decided to release the son of Moslem Brüderbund big shot Mohamed El-Beltagy on Sunday, several hours after his arrest, as no charges have been brought against him.

Ammar, 20 years-old, was tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
on Sunday as part of a large-scale crackdown on the Islamist Moslem Brüderbund group.

Along with three other sons of Brotherhood leaders, Ammar El-Beltagy was rounded up in Beni Suef Governorate, south of Cairo, according to security sources. His father, who was issued an arrest warrant for allegations including terrorising people, torture and murder, is still in hiding, as is fellow leading Brotherhood member Essam El-Erian.

Mohamed El-Beltagy's 17 year-old daughter Asmaa was killed in a bloody police raid on a pro-Morsi protest camp in east Cairo on 14 August, which left hundreds dead and sparked days of violent festivities, pitting Islamists against security forces.

Beni Suef prosecution decided to detain four other members of the Moslem Brüderbund for four days, pending investigation, according to Al-Ahram's Arabic site.

Somalia Demands Sanctions End for 'Chief' Shebab Banker
[An Nahar] Somalia's government has demanded U.N. sanctions be lifted from a businessman accused of being a chief financier for al-Qaeda inspired Death Eaters fighting the internationally-backed authorities, the information minister said Sunday.

Banker and businessman Ali Ahmed Nur Jimale, who was placed on a United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
Security Council sanction list in February 2012, is accused of being "one of al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
's chief financiers", according to the U.N.

But Somali information minister Abdulahi Elmoge Hersi said a government committee had investigated the allegations and found no evidence for maintaining the sanctions.

"After long discussions, the Somali government decided that Ahmed Nur Jimale should have his embargo lifted to get his freedom back," Hersi told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"We call on the international community to respect our decision," he said, adding that a formal request would be submitted to the U.N.

According to U.N. sanctions, Jimale is "ideologically aligned" with the Shabaab, who remain dedicated to overthrowing Mogadishu's government, which is battling the Death Eaters with the backing of a 17,700-strong African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
(AU) force.

Jimale is accused of the "funding of myrmidon activities and weapons purchases" specifically targeting self-declared independent Somaliland, as well as allegedly both raising funds for Shabaab fighters and helping them conceal their money transfers.

U.N. sanctions on the 59-year old financier -- who holds both Somali and Djiboutian passports -- include a travel ban, asset freeze and arms embargo.

Jimale, whose business interests have included charcoal and sugar dealing as well as key stakes in banks and a mobile telephone company, is reported to have close ties to Shabaab factions now at odds with top commander Ahmed Abdi Godane.

But in the past two years the AU and government forces have clawed back control of a series of key towns, areas where businessmen like Jimale would previously have paid taxes to the fighters.

U.N. Monitoring Group reports last month estimated that the Shabaab are still some 5,000 strong, and remain the "principal threat to peace and security to Somalia."

Police official among two killed in Gilgit violence
[Dawn] A police official from an elite force and a civilian were rubbed out in seperate incidents of violence in Gilgit city, senior administration and police officials said.

"One police official and one civilian was killed by unidentified people," Deputy Commissioner Gilgit Shahbaz Nadim Bhatti said.

Earlier, Superintendent of Police, District Gilgit Muhammad Ali Zia said two police officials were hit by unknown people in Sakwar point of Gilgit city when they were returning to a police recruit training center.

"A motor bike chased the coppers and targeted them at Sakwar with pistols after which the attackers escaped," a junior police official said requesting not to be named.

The injured coppers were shifted instantly to the City Hospital Gilgit and health authorities operated upon them. However one police official departed this vale of tears, while another was at death's door.

Police identified the dear departed policeman as Sher Bahadur while the hospitalised policeman's name is Muhammad Bilal.

Within a short time of this incident, gunnies opened fire in old PIA Link Road shooting and injuring two people who were taken to DHQ Hospital where one of them later died.

The other injured person was being treated and doctors hoped he would recover as his condition was stable.

District Magistrate Shahbaz Nadeem Bhatti told Dawn.com that it was not possible to ascertain the motives behind the two incidents.

"We are looking into the incidents.. whether they are linked with ongoing terrorism in the country.

"we recieved a threat alert that government officials particularly coppers could be hit or there could be sectarian motivated violence," he said.

Bhatti added that Sherlocks were interrogating the matter.

He said raids are being conducted in the town for the potential suspects.

Earlier, security was tightened in the city as several new checkpoints were set up in the city while vehicles were being searched for weapons after a terror alert was conveyed from the Crisis Management Cell of the interior minister.

After the incidents of violence, security in the city was further beefed up as patrolling by law enforcement agencies was enhanced and police contingents were deployed at sensitive parts of the city.

Nigeria Kidnappers Kill Four Police to Snatch Lawyer
[An Nahar] Gunmen killed four coppers who attempted to prevent the abduction of a prominent lawyer on a road in southern Nigeria, police said Sunday.

The Edo state police said in a statement that one of its units responded to an emergency call warning that gunnies were active on a road near Benin City, east of Lagos, on Saturday.

The gunnies opened fire as soon as they sighted the patrol, it said.

"At the end of the gun duel, the hoodlums escaped with bullet wounds but not without their victim," the statement said. "Regrettably, the command lost four officers in the encounter."

The police said the kidnap victim was Mike Ozekhome, a senior Lagos-based lawyer known for his staunch criticism of the corruption and bad governance that plagues the west African nation.

His colleague lawyer Festus Keyamo expressed shock at the incident, describing it as "one kidnap too many (that) further draws local and international attention to the poor state of security in our country."

"It also highlights the state of joblessness among youths in our country, which is one reason why they turn to this dangerous trade for their livelihood," he said.

Ozekhome's driver was also snatched and a manhunt was launched, the police said.

Pursued Benghazi murder suspects abandon vehicle and weapons, flee into "wild country"
"Curly-toed slippers, don't fail me now!"
[Libya Herald] There were unconfirmed reports that the vehicle used by killers of an army bomb disposal expert on Friday, was pursued by security forces this evening and abandoned by its four occupants, who then fled into the countryside.

Col Mustafa Agela Almugrbi was shot outside the Al-Ansar mosque as he left Friday prayers with his ten-year old son. His two masked attackers were travelling in a white Mitsubishi Lancer with tinted windows.

This evening the same vehicle was apparently spotted by a Benghazi security patrol who sought to stop it. A chase ensued which ended when the four men aboard the Lancer abandoned it and fled into what a security source described as "wild country". Weapons and at least one phone were left behind by the suspects. More members of the security forces arrived on the scene and the area was reportedly surrounded. It is not yet clear if any arrests have been made.

If the runaways are indeed connected with the Almugrbi murder and are jugged
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
, then it will be the second security breakthrough in a seemingly unstoppable nine-month campaign of liquidation, which has focused on serving and retired military personnel and police.

Earlier today, the Libya Herald revealed that a group of suspects had been jugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
in Benghazi and moved last week to Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
for investigation. Refusing to do more than confirm that a number of people had been arrested, Prime Minister Nuri Zeidan said at his scheduled Sunday presser, that more details would be given in due course. The only other Benghazi liquidation suspect ever arrested, a man named as Ali Al-Fezzani, was picked up in January but beat feet from custody after being sent to Tripoli.

Large arms shipment reaches Syrian rebels: Opposition
[Al Ahram] Gulf-based supporters have sent a 400-ton shipment of arms to Syria's outgunned rebels, one of the biggest to reach them in their two-year-old uprising, opposition sources said on Sunday.

The consignment - mostly ammunition for shoulder-fired weapons and anti-aircraft machine guns - came into northern Syria via the Turkish province of Hatay in the past 24 hours, and was already being handed out, the sources added.

One rebel officer told Rooters the flow of arms bound for rebels had increased since opposition groups accused the government of launching deadly chemical weapons attacks in Damascus on Wednesday.

"Twenty trailers crossed from Turkey and are being distributed to arms depots for several brigades across the north," said rebel official Mohammad Salam, who told Rooters he saw the weapons come over the border.

Syria's conflict, pitting mostly Sunni Mohammedan gunnies against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
, whose Alawite sect follows an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam, has ignited sectarian tensions across the region.

Qatar and other Sunni-led Gulf states have backed the bad turbans, while Shi'ite power Iran remains one of Assad's main allies.

Rebel units operating in northern Syria range from moderate Islamists to hardline jihadists and include Liwa al-Islam (The Division of Islam), Sukur al-Sham (The Hawks of Syria), The Free Martyrs of Syria, Ahfad al-Rasul (The Grandsons of the Prophet) and Ahrar al-Sham (The Freemen of Syria).

Analysts say they have struggled to hold onto advances against Assad's Iranian and Russian-armed forces and his monopoly on air power.

A senior officer in the Gulf and Western-backed Supreme Military Council, an umbrella group for rebel units, said there had been an increase in rebel-bound arms shipments coming into Turkey, particularly since the reports of a chemical assault.

Key U.S. lawmakers: Expect strike in Syria
[SECURITY.BLOGS.CNN] Two key members of congressional foreign affairs panels say they expect the United States to strike Syria following reports of chemical weapons attacks in that country last week, though other politicians interviewed Sunday cautioned that unilateral action would be misguided.

"I think we will respond in a surgical way and I hope the president, as soon as we get back to Washington, will ask for authorization from Congress to do something in a very surgical and proportional way. Something that gets their attention, that causes them to understand that we are not going to put up with that kind of activity," Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said on "Fox News Sunday."

As I said yesterday:

Al Qaeda has long been developing a chemical warfare program. There are a significant number of Syrian rebels, besides al-Nusra, allied with AlQ.
Arab groups have long situated weapons and weapons facilities among the population. Arab groups have also used the population as props, like in Gaza and Egypt.

It's not all that far a stretch to consider any chemical attack in Syria as not automatically done by the Syrian government.

Yemen Foils Suicide Bomber at English Language Center
[An Nahar] Yemeni security forces on Sunday foiled an attack by a would-be jacket wallah on an English language school once linked to the U.S. embassy in Sanaa, a security official said.

The assailant, 20, was caught after he hurled a grenade that failed to explode at the Yemen-America Language Institute in west Sanaa, the official said.

Security guards found the man wearing an explosives belt, he added.

The YALI institute was founded by the U.S. embassy in 1975, but has been run privately for the past few years.

Security forces foiled the attack on the same day a powerful blast destroyed a bus carrying Yemeni air force personnel to their Sanaa base, killing one person and wounding 25.

[THEDAILYBEAST] And now, the prohibitionists are taking on e-cigarettes because... because... because... smoking tobacco is bad for you. And they don't think you should decide how to live your life.

Which reminds me of a different Mencken quote about those who would control our choices: "The only guarantee of the Bill of Rights which continues to have any force and effect is the one prohibiting quartering troops on citizens in time of peace." These days, even that may be up for grabs. But there's no question that in a nanny state, all of us- even those of us who don't smoke tobacco or puff on e-cigarettes- are all treated like children incapable of making our own choices.

The attacks occurred on 14 August during festivities between supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Morsi and security forces, following the violent dispersal of pro-Morsi sit-ins in Cairo and Giza, which left hundreds of casualties.

Similar festivities occurred nationwide.

Another 7 have been arrested in this case, MENA reported.

Over 1000 Moslem Brüderbund members have been arrested during the past week, including prominent Brotherhood leaders and leading Islamist figures associated with the group, which has been charged with 'inciting violence'.

New Snowdenski docs: NSA bugged UN in NYC
[Rooters] The U.S. National Security Agency has bugged the United Nations' New York headquarters, Germany's Der Grün Spiegel weekly said on Sunday in a report on U.S. spying that could further strain relations between Washington and its allies.
Brings to mind bears and their woodland toiletry habits, that sort of thing.
Citing secret U.S. documents obtained by fugitive former intelligence contractor Edward Snowdenski, Der Spiegel said the files showed how the United States systematically spied on other states and institutions.
Hopefully we'll soon be evicted and banned forever.
Der Spiegel said the European Union and the U.N.'s Vienna-based nuclear Chihuahua watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), were among those targeted by U.S. intelligence agents.
Valid enemy targets ek se.
In the summer of 2012, NSA experts succeeded in getting into the U.N. video conferencing system and cracking its coding system, according one of the documents cited by Der Spiegel.

"The data traffic gives us internal video teleconferences of the United Nations (yay!)," Der Spiegel quoted one document as saying, adding that within three weeks the number of decoded communications rose to 458 from 12.

Internal files also show the NSA spied on the EU legation in New York after it moved to new rooms in autumn 2012. Among the documents copied by Snowden from NSA computers are plans of the EU mission, its IT infrastructure and servers. According to the documents, the NSA runs a bugging program in more than 80 embassies and consulates worldwide called "Special Collection Service". "The surveillance is intensive and well organized and has little or nothing to do with warding off terrorists," wrote Der Spiegel.
Very likely "little to do with terrorists" anywhere I'd wager.
Snowden's leaks have embarrassed the United States by exposing the global extent of its surveillance programs. Washington has said its spies operate within the law and that the leaks have damaged national security.
Domestic espionage 'within the law'. An intriguing concept.

Pope Urges World to Help Find Solution to War in Syria
[An Nahar] Pope Francis appealed Sunday to the international community to help find a solution to the civil war in Syria while denouncing a "proliferation in massacres and atrocities" there.

"It's not confrontation that offers perspectives of hope to resolve the problems but the capacity to meet and hold a dialogue," the pope said after traditional Sunday prayers.

"I launch an appeal to the international community to be more sensitive to this tragic situation and to commit itself to the maximum to help the dear Syrian nation find a solution to a war which spreads destruction and death," he said.

#3  The Pope plays the Ukelele too. Then he breaks for Lunch.

And you write lousy prose and swim in your underwear. I think the Pope is more productive with his time. Certainly more useful in any case.

He also rides rather than walks

This one gets out of the Popemobile quite often, to the consternation of his security staff. They've already had one Pope shot.

#4  I don't think Pope Francis would like the real world solution to war in Syria.

Pope needs to urge Notre Dame to stop enabling lawlessness and not allow -- nevermind subsidize -- illegals at America's once-proud flagship Catholic university.

Arabia
Qaeda head slams Saudi support to Egypt
[Al Ahram] A top Saudi member of Al-Qaeda slammed King Abdullah's support for the Egyptian army's ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, in a video message posted online Sunday.

"One of their latest crimes is supporting the secular forces in Egypt against the government of Morsi," Ibrahim al-Rubaish said in a statement.

Rubaish is considered the religion affairs chief of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the Yemen-based franchise of the jihadist network, formed in a 2009 merger of its Saudi and Yemeni branches.

"The son of Saud was the first to offer congratulations after the fall of the government of Morsi, and the most generous supporter, offering billions to the Tamarod government that rebelled against everything, including Allah," he said.

Syria chemical attack evidence may have been destroyed: Hague
[Al Ahram] British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Sunday warned that any evidence of a chemical attack by the Syrian may regime may have already been destroyed. "The fact is that much of the evidence could have been destroyed by that artillery bombardment," he cautioned during a press conference after Damascus gave its green light to a mission by UN inspectors.

#1  Iff true, such would violate the Bammer's "clear evidence" rule, hence no need for US to attack + intervene in Syria???

#3  Roll the bagged and tagged corpses over, dig them up if you have to. Get out your kit and do a swab and smear of their tongues and their nasal passages. Can't find any corpses? I assume there ARE corpse with blue swollen lips and bugging eyes covered in their own vomit otherwise why did we buy plane tickets and ride the bus to Goombah ?

Do Moslems burn their dead? Then there are corpses. Get the shovel. The Lab can tell us if there is any residue and take lots of pictures.

NOW, is Obama going to actually DO anything but run his mouth? Be serious. Obama is a suit and the boyz down at the Pentagon ...well...most of them shaved this morning and have air conditioning.

And the Marines in sweaty fatigues in the back of Barracks H who are stringing link ammo they would just love to die in Syria.
Ask one.
No, ( on second thought ) don't.

Violence could spin out of control in Lebanon: Analysts
[Al Ahram] Analysts fear violence will spin out of control in Syria's neighbor Lebanon after deadly bombings struck Sunni and Shia areas of the country a week apart and killed dozens of people.

The 29-month war in Syria, once the power broker in Lebanon, has already spilled across the border, pitting supporters of the Damascus regime against its opponents.

"It is very likely that there will be more car bombs and other terrorist attacks all over Lebanon. There is nothing to prevent it," said Fadia Kiwan, head of the political sciences department at Beirut's Saint Joseph University.

According to her "there is a fifth column operating in the country" whose protagonists are linked to the Syrian conflict.

Group says Coahuila government fudged homicide stats

Coahuila state attorney general kicks the ball onto the fairway and hopes no one notices.

The Coahuila state Procuraduria General de Justicia del Estado (PGJE), or attorney general changed the statistics of homicides for the first six months of 2013, effectively lowering the number by 44 total, according to Mexican news accounts.

A news report which appeared on the website of Animal Politico quoted Marco Zamarripa, director of Consejo Civico de las Instituciones saying that the state government had retroactively changed homicide totals reported to the Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Publica to show a decrease for the first half of 2013.

The news account cited three months in which the reported numbers do not "correspond with reality". For example in January the total murders reported went from 43 to 24, in February, 26 to 21 and March 31 to 25.

According to a separate report which appeared on the online edition of El Siglo De Torreon news daily, the Coahuila state PGJE only reported incidents of murder, not the total actually killed.

Three former village leaders gunned down in southern Thailand
Three retired village leaders were gunned down in Yala province Saturday in an attack believed to have been carried out by separatist terrorists insurgents.

The attack happened in the morning when gunmen on the back of a pickup truck opened fire with automatic weapons at a tea shop. The victims, all elderly Muslim men, were identified as Chalee Samato, Harong Taba and Tuansoh Waba. A fourth man was injured. The gunmen also stole three pistols from their victims.

Police said a separatist group was probably responsible for the attack. Internal Security Operations Command's (Isoc) Fourth Region Forward Command spokesman, Col Pramote Promin, said, "We had intelligence indicating that insurgents were going to target teachers and soldiers, but we didn't expect them to attack villagers."

Two rubber tappers were also shot and injured while working in their plantation early Saturday.

Meanwhile, four soldiers and four villagers were injured when a bomb planted in a garbage bin was detonated at an intersection in the Sungai Kolok municipality area of Narathiwat province on Saturday evening.

Indian shelling along LoC kills woman, say Pakistani authorities
[Dawn] Pak authorities on Sunday accused the Indian army of cross-border shelling that killed a woman and maimed several other civilians in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmire.

"A woman was killed and at least seven other villagers were maimed when Indian forces fired shells from across the Line of Control (Loc)," said local government official Masood-ur-Rehman according to AFP.

One the other hand the BBC Urdu website had quoted Rehman, who is the Deputy Commissioner of Kotli district in Azad Jammu Kashmire, as saying that the shelling from the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) had killed one woman and maimed nine other civilians.

The woman was the fifth Pak reported to have been killed in skirmishes across the LoC, which is the heavily militarised de facto border, since five Indian soldiers were killed on August 5.

Delhi blamed the August 5 killings on the Mighty Pak Army, but Islamabad denied any responsibility and has called for restraint and dialogue.

Shells fired by Indian troops struck villages in Nakyal sector, some 200 kilometres south of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pak Kashmire, intermittently overnight, Rehman said.

Three houses had been damaged and one house and a car destroyed, he told AFP by telephone.

Local police chief Chaudhry Majid confirmed the casualties and said shelling from the Indian side was continuing.

Javed Budhanwi, an MP from the area, said that Indian shelling had caused panic among more than 50,000 local residents and warned that authorities may have to evacuate civilians to safer locations.

"It is difficult for people to move out at the moment as the shelling continues," Budhanwi told AFP.
