Resolved: The Higher The Fewer (are Dem's crazy?)
[AccordingToHoyt] Guys, pssst? Can someone check on the left? Because something is seriously, bizarrely wrong. I mean, wrong enough that if the left, collectively, tripped into a hospital’s ER, they’d be slapped with a psychiatric hold. These people ‐ collectively ‐ are not well.

Look, when I was growing up, one of our merry band was schizophrenic. When he felt his insanity coming on, he’d go and commit himself, because he didn’t want to hurt anyone. We can only hope (in vain) that the left could have that kind of insight into their mental processes.

Recently, I heard of someone also suffering from mental illness, who removed every electrical wire from his house, bashed his laptop, the radio, the TV and his telephone, sent in his own obituary and generally posed a danger to himself and others because the aliens/CIA/someone was spying on him through all of those. He might be saner than the left.

No, seriously. I was texting to Bill (Reader) yesterday and I said something like "the left is so crazy it’s starting to scare me. What kind of rational human being thinks we should reorganize our entire economy because an indoctrinated SWEDISH teen needs to allay her anxiety?" And then he said, "Or for instance, that Biden is corrupt, therefore impeach Trump."

And then I realized there were a ton of other things just as insane from that side of the isle, and I had to think, and then...
I think Sarah has something here. I mean we always talk about Machiavellian plans of the Left/Deep State/Press but, where's the evidence? They're more like somebody proudly proclaiming "I'm Napoleon!" Not that people just like them didn't manage to kill millions within living memory.

#1  Of course, the left would have us ask that question of ourselves, knowing we're more serious about truth than they are.

I did some reading on mental processes that insist on the reality of things that actually don't exist, such as phantom Limb syndrome. I read about Charles Bonnet syndrome, where people see extremely realistic images that are "out of place": I had a fellow church member say she had that syndrome, and apologized to our pastor for giggling during the last sermon because she saw Bugs Bunny Sitting on his shoulder reading his sermon notes.

The interesting thing is that people with Charles bonnet syndrome are not hallucinating, thinking that what they are seeing is real: they see it for sure, but are equally sure that its not real.

So, the criterion remains: What are ALL the FACTS of the matter, and how seriously do you take all the facts?

Netanyahu asks A-G to air pre-indictment hearing live - breaking
[Jpost] Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked that Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit air his pre-indictment hearings set for next week on a live broadcast.

Mandelblit's office was caught by surprise on Thursday and said it will consider its response.

In the midst of the high drama that takes place as coalition negotiations are in full swing, it is unclear what Mandelblit will decide.

Mitt Romney adviser sits on Burisma board of directors
HT Insty
[American Thinker] Well, this is certainly an odd coincidence! In fact, when you dig in, you find an amazing series of coincidences. If you believe in coincidences when the CIA is involved, that is.

Mitt Romney's national security advisor in his 2012 campaign -- a career CIA spook who rose to its top levels -- sits on the board of directors of Burisma, the Ukrainian gas company that formerly paid Hunter Biden $50k a month despite his complete lack of credentials or qualifications.

And it also an odd coincidence that Mitt has as CNN puts it "been a lone Republican voice expressing concern about President Donald Trump's July phone call with Volodymyr Zelensky in which Trump asked Ukraine's President to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his family."

Still more oddly coincidental is the background of Mitt's adviser deep in the CIA, part of the intelligence community that has "six ways from Sunday" in foiling a mere president who might oppose them, according to Chuck Schumer.

Jacques Chirac Departs To The Big Eiffel Tower
I just remember one distinct thing about him - in conversations with other people, he'd correct other people's French. Overall rememberance of him - arrogant, condescending and snobbish. In other words, a typical Parisian Frenchman.
"Chirac est un ver"
[Yahoo News] - Former French President Jacques Chirac, a major force in French politics who opposed the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, died in Paris on Thursday at the age of 86.

A seasoned politician, Chirac’s career included two presidential terms, two stints as prime minister and nearly two decades as mayor of Paris.

Charming, statuesque and a consummate political animal, Chirac was a presence on the French political arena for more than four decades. But he is best known internationally for his final term at the Élysée presidential palace, a five-year period that proved extraordinary from start to finish.
Not for the faint of heart - serious ball washing ensues from there...

#1  back a few decades Iraq under Saddam was building a nuclear plant near Baghdad. They purchased a design and components from France using the Osiris model, which the Iraqis called the Osirik. Because of the enthusiastic promotion of this by the Prez of France, the French called it the o Chirac reactor.

Iran tried to bomb it and caused minor damage during 1980. The IDF destroyed it on June 7 1981 shortly before it would have gone critical.

Impeachment Inquiry Stalls Gun Control Talks, Senate Staffers Say
[FreeBeacon] Three Senate sources told the Washington Free Beacon that the House's impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump has stalled efforts to pass new gun control laws.

"Hard to imagine Trump doing a signing ceremony of anything with Speaker Pelosi at his side, and Democrats are the only ones agitating for gun control," one staffer told the Free Beacon on Wednesday.
I see the law of unintended conquequences is working beautifully
The inquiry, which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.) officially labeled an impeachment investigation, will consume Washington for the weeks and months ahead, according to the sources. They also said it will be difficult to move key legislative priorities like a reworked North American trade deal and lowering the cost of prescription drugs, not to mention a passable gun control package.

"I think the impeachment stuff sucks up all the oxygen," a second Senate staffer told the Free Beacon.

A third Senate staffer said gun control was something that wouldn’t be on the front burner at least "for a while" and that some staffers had already begun preparing for how to handle impeachment proceedings should they come.

"Policy and legal staffers got quick reminders in impeachment procedures yesterday but that doesn't mean anything," the staffer told the Free Beacon. "It's more like, ’well, if it happens, we better be ready.'"

Gun control activists and members of the media have applied immense public pressure to pass new gun control measures in the wake of mass shootings last month in Texas and Ohio. However, while polling has shown support for some of the measures pursued by gun control advocates, that support has declined even in polls taken shortly after the shootings.

Additionally, calls by gun control groups and Democratic politicians alike to confiscate tens or even hundreds of millions of firearms from Americans have complicated efforts by the White House to find a workable gun package.

The impeachment inquiry may have ended any hope to find a gun bill that could pass in the near term.

"I'm hoping that these things can be compartmentalized and that we can continue to pursue policy that I’ve been advocating," Senator Pat Toomey (R., Pa.) told Politico. "But I acknowledge that a lot of clamoring for impeachment is not helpful. It makes it more difficult."
Which may be one of the intents with Trump letting this go nuts.

A Message for Children About Climate Change
h/t Instapundit
[ScottAdamsSays] Dear Children,

I’m sorry adults have frightened you about climate change and how it might affect your future. You might be less afraid if you knew some facts that adults intentionally do not explain to you. I’ll tell you here.

The news was once a source of real information, or so we thought. But in the modern world, the news people discovered they can make more money by presenting scary news regardless of whether it is true or not. Today, much of the news on the right and the left is opinion that is meant to scare you, not inform you, because scary things get more attention, and that makes the news business more profitable. The same is true for people who write books; authors often make books scary so you will buy them. Most adults know all the scariness is not real. Most kids do not. You just learned it.

Nuclear energy used to be dangerous, back in the olden days. Today’s nuclear power plants (the ones built in the past 20 years all over the world) have killed zero people, and are considered the safest form of energy in the world. More people have died installing solar panels and falling off roofs than have died from nuclear power problems anywhere in the world for the past few decades. And nuclear energy is the obvious way to address climate change, say most of the smartest adults in the world, because it can provide abundant, cheap, clean energy with zero carbon emissions.

If you are worried about nuclear waste, you probably should not be. Every country with nuclear energy (and there are lots of them) successfully stores their nuclear waste. If you put all the nuclear waste in the world in one place, it would fit on one football field. It isn’t a big problem. And new nuclear power designs will actually eat that nuclear waste and turn it into electricity, so the total amount of waste could come way down.

The United Nations estimates that the economic impact of climate change will reduce the economy by 10% in eighty years. What they don’t tell you is that the economy will be about five times bigger and better by then, so you won’t even notice the 10% that didn’t happen. And that worst case is only if we do nothing to address climate change, which is not the case.

A number of companies have recently built machines that can suck CO2 right out of the air. At the moment, using those machines would be too expensive. But as they come down in cost and improve in efficiency, we have a solution already in hand should it ever be needed.
Nobody ever heard of coral reefs?
It would be expensive, but there is no real risk of CO2 ruining the world now that we know how to remove any excess from the atmosphere. (Plants need CO2 to thrive, so we don’t want to remove too much. Greenhouses actually pump in CO2 to make plants grow better.)

Adults sometimes like to use children to carry their messages because it makes it hard for the other side to criticize them without seeming like monsters. If adults have encouraged you to panic about climate change without telling you what I am telling you here, they do not have your best interests at heart. They are using you.

When you ask adults about nuclear energy, expect them to have old understanding about it, meaning they don’t know the newer nuclear energy technologies are the safest energy on the planet.

What I told you today is not always understood even by adults. You are now smarter than most adults on the topic of climate.

My generation has a lot of faith in your generation. You will be the most educated and effective humans of all time. My generation (and a few generations younger than me) already has the fixes to address climate risks coming online. Your generation will finish the job.

We adults respect your passion and your energy on the topic of climate. But it isn’t fair for us to deny you the basic facts while at the same time scaring you into action. I hope this letter helps you sleep better. We adults have this problem under control, or will soon, and you’ll help us finish the job. So get some good sleep tonight. Together, we got this.

Scott Adams

Kavanaugh Accuser Flew on Private Plane of Tech Boss Linked to Disinformation Campaign
h/t Instapundit
[FrontPageMag] Remember how Christine Blasey Ford couldn't fly, until it turned out that she could fly? Just to spare her the indignities of commercial air travel, she was flown on a private plane courtesy of two very unpleasant and wealthy Silicon Valley characters.

Among those who assisted Ford in the summer of 2018 were Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, game company Zynga founder Mark Pincus, and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, according to The Education of Brett Kavanaugh, written by New York Times reporters Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly and on shelves Tuesday.

Pincus and Hoffman, meanwhile, lent Ford and her friends their private plane and hired a flight attendant when they traveled to Washington, D.C., for the high-stakes Sept. 27 hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, during which Ford and Kavanaugh both testified.

...Who are Pincus and Hoffman?

If you remember Zynga, a slime stain of a company even by social media standards, that's Mark Pincus.

...Meanwhile Reid Hoffman was linked to even uglier stuff targeting Republicans.

Democratic operatives, backed by a liberal billionaire and facilitated by a former Obama official, created thousands of fake Russian accounts to give an impression the Russian government was supporting Alabama Republican Roy Moore in last year’s election against now-Sen. Doug Jones.

The secret project, which had a budget of just $100,000 and was carried out on Facebook and Twitter, was revealed after the New York Times obtained an internal report detailing the efforts.

One participant in the project reportedly was Jonathon Morgan, the chief executive of New Knowledge, a firm that wrote a report ‐ released by the Senate Intelligence Committee earlier this week ‐ about Russia’s social media operations in the 2016 election and its efforts to hurt Hillary Clinton and help Donald Trump.

The Alabama project was funded by liberal billionaire and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman who gave $100,000 to the cause, according to the Times. Hoffman is one of Silicon Valley’s top donors to the Democrats, donating $7 million to various groups and campaigns in the last election cycle.
And here I thought it's all just Besoeker's Klingons.

Women are struggling to find men who make as much money as they do
h/t Instapundit
[NYPost] A good man is hard to find, especially in this economy.

The country is facing a crisis of broke dudes, according to new research from Cornell University ‐ and it’s left successful ladies single and disgruntled.

In the study, published in the Journal of Marriage and Family, Cornell sociologists explored America’s declining marriage rate. They discovered a lack of financially eligible bachelors.

"There are shortages of economically attractive men," lead study author Daniel T. Lichter tells The Post. Although we like to think marriage is based on love, he says, it "also is fundamentally an economic transaction," and women want partners whom they can call their equals.

Lichter, who has been studying marriage for 30 years, says the gig economy and a "lack of good jobs" have contributed to the dearth of well-to-do dudes. So has the fact that women are outpacing men educationally, upending the age-old dominance of the male breadwinner over the past five to 10 years.

India-Pakistan
When JMB terrorists from Bengal test fired rocket shells in TamilNadu
[OneIndia] The National Investigation Agency has made some major inroads after it arrested a key operative of the Jamat-ul-Mujahideen, Bangladesh.

Several details are trickling out after the NIA took into its custody JMB Terrorist Jahidul Islam alias Kausar, who is also an accused in the Burdwan and Bodhgaya blasts.

During his questioning, he told the NIA that he and his associates had test fired three rocket shells at Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu. He said he and his associates, Habibur had prepared these rockets using a crude device. From here the NIA seized remnants of kabooms such as 8 batteries of 1.5 volt each, a hollow cylindrical carton used for launching the rocket shell and pieces of electrical wire.

He also said that he and his associates took shelter in various locations in South India. He said that the hideouts were at Aribele, Kadugodi, K.R.Puram, Chikkbanavara and Shikaripalya, Electronic City in Bengaluru.

NIA officials tell OneIndia that from the hideout in Electronic City, several incriminating articles meant to be used for preparation of IEDs and grenades such as two cuboid shaped batteries wrapped with plastic tape and electrical wire, one capacitor, three switches, one micro lithium cell, one plastic transparent box containing black colour chemical wrapped in a white paper, hand gloves, identity cards, rent agreement of one of the hideouts, handwritten letters in Bengali language, one digital camera and silver articles looted during dacoities committed in Bengaluru in 2018, have been seized.

Jahidul was arrested in August for his role in both the Burdwan and Bodhgaya blasts.

Islam, who is a member of the Jamaat ul Mujahideen Bangladesh was arrested from Ramagara, around 50 kilometres from Bengaluru, Karnataka. Based on specific information, the NIA raided his home.

During the search, the NIA found some electronic devices besides traces of explosives. He is a top leader of JMB in India and is wanted in Burdwan blast case and in many other cases in Bangladesh also. He is the master mind of the Bodhgaya case.

Earlier the NIA arrested two persons in connection with the planning of a kaboom at the Bodh Gaya complex on January 19 2018. The arrested persons have been identified as Abdul Karim and Mustafizur Rehman, both residents of West Bengal.

They were arrested from the labour camp of Bengali speaking persons in Mallapuram in Kerala. The NIA says that the duo were hiding in this camp after planting the improvised bombs.

The NIA has so far managed to establish the identity of 10 persons involved in the conspiracy. With the nabbing of these two persons, the number of persons to be arrested in this case has gone up to 5.

The NIA says that the conspiracy was hatched by ten persons belonging to the Bangladesh based outfit, Jamaat-ul Mujahideen, Bangladesh.

It may be recalled that the Intelligence Bureau had warned that several illegal immigrants colonists colonists would look to make their way down south and the entry point would be Kerala. In the above mentioned case, the arrests were made from a Bengali camp. Officers have been saying for long that illegal migrants colonists colonists from Bangladesh take shelter in such camps, as it becomes hard for security agencies to detect.

NIA charges 6 Hizbul terrorists in CRPF attack case
[OneIndia] The National Investigation Agency has filed a chargesheet against 6 Lions of Islam of the Hizbul Mujahideen
...Party of Holy Warriors, founded by Muhammad Ahsan Dar in September 1989. One of the Pak sock puppets waging jihad in Indian Kashmir. It was originally organized as the armed wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. In 1990, Dar declared Hizbul as the sword arm of Jamaat. Hizbul murdered many of the pro-independence intelligentsia in Kashmir. After the organization was taken over by Syed Salahuddin Dar and several other ex-Hizb leaders were assassinated between 2001 and 2003...
in connection with the CRPF attack case.

The case pertains to the attack on the CRPF convoy on March 3 2019 at Thethar, Banal in Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
. The NIA in its chargesheet says that the aim was to kill the security personnel and also wage a war against the country.

The case initially registered by the Jammu and Kashmir police was taken over by the NIA on April 15 2019.

The attacker was driving an explosive laden car and planned to ram it into the CRPF convoy.

He was arrested a day later. It was established the six operatives had prepared the explosives at Shopian and assembled the same before packing it in the car.

The NIA in its chargesheet named Owais Amin, Umar Shafi, Aqib Shafi Shah Waseem Ahmad Dar and Hilal Ahmad Mantu.

The Transcript Reaction that Ann C. Wants to See
[Townhall] The transcript of President Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky is yet another illustration of the rule: Never ask a question you don’t know the answer to.

But on the basis of one drama queen’s overreaction to a rumor she’d heard about what was said on a phone call she didn’t hear (I'm assuming the whistleblower is Christine Blasey Ford), the Democrats have launched impeachment proceedings against the president.

I guess they figured it's easier than flying to South Dakota with picks and chisels and carving Trump into Mount Rushmore. But it will have the same effect.

Now that the transcript has been released, it’s The New York Times that doesn't want anyone to see it.

The transcript I'd like to see is the one of Nancy Pelosi reading the Trump transcript.

#2  But wait — there’s more!

The second issue the media does not want anyone to think about is CrowdStrike.

What is CrowdStrike, you ask? That is the cybersecurity firm that is the sole source of the claim that the Russians hacked the DNC’s emails -- which launched the conspiracy theories that tied our country in knots for the past three years.

The Russian collusion story was originally hatched by Hillary Clinton in the summer of 2016 to cover up the utter corruption revealed by the dump of Democratic National Committee emails on Wikileaks. As was her practice whenever a scandal threatened to engulf her, Hillary rushed out and told the press to investigate something else.

...The subsequent three years of breathless Russia coverage was based entirely on the word of one cybersecurity firm, CrowdStrike, that the DNC's emails had been hacked by Russia.

Go read the whole thing.

The Smoke Signals Say It'll Be Trump Vs. Warren
[Townhall] Elizabeth Warren is on the way to securing the Democrat nomination, and the ensuing general election battle will be a re-run of Little Bighorn except, ironically, Sitting Bolshevik will be Custer. Trump’s going to drag her kicking and screaming and nagging, always nagging, down the trail of tears until that glorious November night when Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and maybe Minnesota all express their reservations over sending this tiresome scold to the White Wigwam in Washington.

...But it’s not moderately amusing tribe jibes that are going to do in her candidacy. Elizabeth Warren faces some other challenging obstacles on her way to the Oval Office. Foremost among them is Elizabeth Warren.

Where Kirstin Gillibrand came across as America’s First Wife, Warren comes across as that irritating middle school librarian who is constantly demanding that we all use our inside voices and who puts up posters that say "Reading Is Cool!" with a picture of the Fonz. Functionaries like that are just fine for keeping seventh graders from burning down the school and for passing out tomes so the kids can learn them their cypherin’, but grown men and women neither need nor want some National Nag pestering them to be better people. For one thing, we’re already manifestly better than the cast of weirdos, losers and pinko mutations that make up Warren’s motley base.

It says a lot that the fact Big Chief Warren taught at Harvard ‐ albeit solely because of her Apache-at scam ‐ is not the thing that will alienate her most from Midwestern voters. It’s her insane catering to the commie contingent in her midst. It’s one thing to try to get to the left of the Democrat field during the primaries; it’s another to get to the left of the Democrat field during the primaries when you’re running against Bernie Sanders.

...And then there’s her promise to ban fracking.

...Hmmmm. Your livelihoods or the catering to the obsessions of a Swedish 16-year-old? Hey, for Liz Warren that’s an easy call! Better learn to code!

Actually, don’t bother. Elizabeth Warren may get nominated ‐ in fact, it looks like she will. But when she and her running mate ‐ be it the gun-grabbing furry, Willie Brown’s fling or Mayor Liberal Lithgow from Footloose, Indiana ‐ enter the general, Trump will be waiting.

Pompeo: U.S. Sanctioned Chinese Entities For Transferring Oil From Iran
[Jpost] The Trump administration sanctioned Chinese individuals and entities for their involvement in transferring oil to Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
in violation of US sanctions, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Wednesday.

"Today we are imposing sanctions on certain Chinese entities for knowingly transporting oil from Iran, contrary to United States sanctions," Pompeo said as he spoke in New York at the United Against Nuclear Iran conference held on the sidelines of the opening of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.

Israeli woman stabbed near Modiin; 14-year-old Palestinian arrested
[IsraelTimes] An Israeli woman was stabbed and lightly injured Wednesday in what police said was a terrorist attack near the central city of Modiin.

Police arrested a 14-year-old Paleostinian from the West Bank on suspicion of committing the stabbing at the Maccabim Junction along Route 443.

The woman was treated for a stab wound in her upper body.

The Magen David Adom ambulance service said the woman, in her 20s, was taken in stable, pH balanced condition to Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer.

Police said a Border Police officer was also lightly hurt while restraining the suspect.

According to police, Border Police officers driving on Route 433 spotted the suspect trying to flee and chased after him on foot. The officers fired a number of bullets in the air, and collared the suspect a few hundred meters from the scene of the stabbing.

[WTOP] A D.C. government employee was charged Wednesday with dealing fentanyl outside his Southwest office building.

Darrell Marcellus Pope, a staff member at the D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, is charged with conspiracy to distribute at least 40 grams of a mixture containing fentanyl, according to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday.

Pope allegedly dealt the drugs just outside DCRA headquarters at 1100 4th Street SW, within 1,000 feet of Amidon-Bowen Elementary School. The mayor’s office confirmed the DCRA placed Pope on administrative leave.

Treason case against Musharraf to be heard on a daily basis
[DAWN] The special court seized with the high treason trial of former military dictator retired Gen Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
has decided to proceed in the case on a daily basis to conclude the trial pending since December 2013.

The special court comprising Justice Nazar Akbar and Justice Shahid Karim resumed proceedings in the treason trial on Tuesday.

Advocate Raza Bashir, the defence counsel appointed by the law ministry on the directive of the special court, filed an application seeking his meeting with Mr Musharraf for getting instructions from him to argue the case.

The court expressed displeasure over the filing of the application and said that the accused had already been summoned for recording his statement under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

The court has barred Barrister Salman Safdar from representing the absconding accused and Advocate Bashir has been engaged to assist the court in concluding the much-delayed trial.

Bomb attack on police bus in southern Turkey injures 5
[DAWN] A kaboom hit a bus carrying police in the southern Ottoman Turkish province of Adana on Wednesday morning and some people were maimed, security sources said.

CNN Turk broadcast video of a badly damaged bus surrounded by debris and other damaged vehicles under a pedestrian overpass in the area of Yuregir in Adana.

The sources said ambulances took the maimed to hospitals in the area. Armed police sealed off the area and were examining the scene. It was not clear who might be behind the attack.

Mahmut Demirtas, the provincial governor of Adana, said a police official and four bystanders were slightly injured by a bomb that targeted a bus carrying police personnel.

"As of now, two chief prosecutors of the terror bureau have been assigned and they too are at the scene of the crime at the moment," Demirtas said.

'Nightmare' for global postal system if Trump pulls out, UN body says
[AlAhram] A threat by Donald Trump
...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party...
to pull the United States out of the global postal system could lead to a "nightmare scenario" of mail going undelivered, packages piling up and American stamps no longer being recognized abroad, the U.N. postal agency said.

The Universal Postal Union (UPU) has been holding an emergency meeting in Geneva to persuade Washington not to follow through on a threat to quit the agency, which sets rules to ensure mail gets delivered around the globe.

The Trump administration says it wants to charge other countries more than UPU rules now permit to have letters and packages delivered in the United States. It has set a deadline of next month for rates to be raised or it will quit.

"It is really a nightmare scenario," the UPU’s secretary-general, Bishar Hussein, told a news conference, noting that no country had ever left since the agency was founded nearly 150 years ago. It now has 192 members.

"If the United States leaves, you’ll get those piles, because somehow every country has to figure out how to send mail to the United States.... A major disruption is on the way if we don’t solve the problem today."

Were the United States to quit the UPU, U.S. stamps would no longer be valid abroad, he said. He said he was "very optimistic" that a compromise could be reached.

The UPU is one of the oldest international organizations, set up in 1874 to ensure that mail could be delivered anywhere on earth. It establishes a system for calculating the fees, known as "terminal dues", that countries collect from each other to deliver mail that arrives from abroad.

Washington says the fees are too low, which unfairly benefits exporters from countries such as China, who can send goods ordered online to U.S. customers while the U.S. Postal Service bears part of the cost of delivering them.

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro, who heads the U.S. delegation, called for fixing a system "that everyone in this room knows is broken".

Navarro, speaking to journalists, said: "In an age of e-commerce the United States is being forced to heavily subsidize small parcels coming into our country. Many are from China but this is not strictly a China problem."

He said the system meant the U.S. Postal Service was effectively spending $300 million-$500 million to subsidize the cost of delivering imports, including counterfeit goods and drugs mailed to the United States from China.

Other countries that receive more mail than they send, including Brazil, Canada, Norway and South Africa, were also being hit, he said. Countries should be allowed to set their own rates, which he said "might cause some very short-term disruptions" but was "the clearest, cleanest, fairest and quickest path to a reform that is long overdue".

Democrats Abroad, the arm of the Democratic Party for Americans overseas, has warned of chaos and urged members to lobby Congress against the proposal by the Republican administration to quit the body.

"If the withdrawal goes forward, postal mail service to the United States will be thrown into disarray and the USPS expects postal service to and from the States to be massively disrupted," the group said in a statement.

Navarro said Washington could quit without problems.

"We have prepared for a seamless transition. There will be absolutely no disruption in military mail, election mail, or holiday mail," he said.

Jihadist attack on northern Khan Sheikhoun ends in failure
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels attempted to surprise the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) this week with an attack on their positions north of Khan Sheikhoun.

The Uighurs and so forth who did not join Al Nusra or ISIS seem to have ended up here...
, attempted to infiltrate the Syrian Army’s defenses at the hilltop of Tal Ja’jar, resulting in a short battle between the two forces.

According to a military source in the southern countryside of Idlib, the Syrian Arab Army was able to beat back the jihadist rebels after the brief firefight at Tal Ja’jar.

The source said the Syrian Army troops were supported by their allies from the National Defense Forces.

This latest attack by the jihadist rebels marked the first time in September that the latter had launched an infiltration attempt in the southern countryside of the Idlib Governorate.

For the Syrian Army, this attack will likely fuel a future operation by their forces, as they have warned the jihadist rebels against any provocations in the past.

Watch Joe Biden Brag About Bribing Ukraine To Fire The Prosecutor Investigating His Son’s Company
[THEFEDERALIST] We do know that Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...The former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body...
, while serving as vice president, pressured the Ukrainian government to fire the prosecutor who was investigating his son’s company. Hunter Biden joined the board of Ukrainian national gas company Burisma in 2014 while his father was managing the United States’ Ukraine policy and despite zero personal experience in the field. At the time Hunter Biden joined its board, Burisma was embroiled in allegations of corruption, allegations serious enough that Ukraine’s prosecutor general launched an investigation into the company.

Joe Biden was so proud of his role in the prosecutor’s removal from investigating the company paying his son $50,000 per month merely to serve on its board that he actually bragged about it in a 2018 speech at an event for the publication Foreign Affairs. In this speech, Biden boasts his threat to withhold $1 billion in U.S. loans from Ukraine if they did not agree to fire the prosecutor who happened to be investigating the company giving his son a cushy sinecure.

Europe
'France Can't Host Everyone,' Says Macron in New Toughening of Migration Stance
[AnNahar] French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday said La Belle France "cannot host everyone", intensifying his tough pose rhetoric on immigration.

Macron had last week signalled a tougher line on immigration in the second half of his mandate, arguing the government must stop voters drifting to the far-right.

"La Belle France cannot host everyone if it wants to host people well," Macron told Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
1 in an interview from the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
in New York where he is attending the annual General Assembly.

Macron noted La Belle France had seen a sharp increase in the numbers of people asking for asylum since the 2017 presidential election and said much tighter European cooperation was needed.

"There is not enough cooperation in Europe and we need to look at this migratory phenomenon and take decisions," he said.

Macron's comments come as the French parliament is set next week for a major debate on migration policy, with the lower house National Assembly discussing the issue on Monday and the Senate on Wednesday.

The French president, whose first term expires in 2022, is keenly aware that his biggest political rival remains Marine Le Pen and her far-right National Rally party which has built its popularity on a strong anti-immigration stance.

"In order to be able to welcome everyone properly, we should not be too attractive a country," said Macron.
Translation: “We will welcome everybody, as long as most of them stay home.”
He said he wanted to look at the basket of state medical aid offered to migrants colonists while emphasising that getting rid of such help entirely would be "ridiculous".
“Give ‘em all free vaccines so they don’t make us sick, but otherwise they’re on their own,” he added.
"It would be an error to say that the question of migration is a taboo or just something to raise when there are crises," he said, emphasising that La Belle France had always been a country of migration.

During the 2017 presidential campaign, Macron lavished support on the open door policy of German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslem colonists...
in allowing in over a million refugees, saying it had "saved our collective dignity".

He said two priorities now had to be giving asylum as quickly as possible to those who have a right to La Belle France's protection and integrating them more effectively through more French courses and a more aggressive employment policy.

But he said those who had entered La Belle France illegally needed to be moved away "much more efficiently", and that current processes last too long.
Actually sending anyone home ever would be a significant change — efficiency is not even visible from their current position.
La Belle France last year received a record 122,743 asylum requests, up 22 percent compared to 2017.

Jihadists Execute Aid Worker Abducted in Nigeria, Says NGO
[AnNahar] Jihadists aligned to the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group have executed one of six aid workers kidnapped in July in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, charity group Action Against Hunger said Wednesday.

"The gang holding captive an employee of Action Against Hunger (ACF), two drivers and three health ministry personnel, have executed a hostage," the Gay Paree-based organization said in a statement.

"Action Against Hunger condemns in the strongest terms this liquidation and urgently calls for the release of the hostages."

The group said it was "extremely concerned and is fully mobilised to ensure that the remaining hostages can be quickly and safely reunited with their families".

The six Nigerian aid workers -- one woman and five men -- were seized by jihadists affiliated to the Islamic State group during an ambush on their convoy close to the border with Niger on July 18.

The Islamic State West Africa province (ISWAP) group released a video in the wake of the abduction of the female ACF staff member pleading for the release of the hostages with her five male colleagues behind her.

The kidnapping was the latest to target aid workers in the conflict-hit region after the abduction and killing of two female workers for the International Committee of the Red Thingy (ICRC) last year.

The announcement of the latest execution comes after the army last week shut down ACF offices in northeast Nigeria, accusing the organization of supplying "food and drugs" to the jihadists.

ISWAP is a splinter group of jihadist group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
that swore allegiance in 2016 to IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

It has repeatedly attacked military bases and targeted aid workers in northeast Nigeria.

The decade-long insurgency has killed 35,000 people and displaced about two million from their homes in northeast Nigeria.

Boko Haram fighters have kidnapped huge numbers of women and kiddies across the region.

The group drew worldwide attention with the kidnapping of 276 girls from a school in Chibok in 2014.

September 27 to be observed as 'Kashmir Solidarity Day', govt announces
[DAWN] The federal government has decided to mark September 27 as "Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain.
Solidarity Day" to express solidarity with the people in India-Indian Kashmire against Indian brutalities.
and to distract the rubes
According to a notification issued by the interior ministry on Wednesday, the day will be observed under the theme "Let us save the innocent children of India-occupied Jammu and Kashmir".

"Prime Minister Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
has very kindly approved September 27, Friday, as Kashmir Solidarity Day for holding public rallies across Pakistain to express their feelings with the people of India-occupied Jammu and Kashmir," read the notification.

The ministry has advised all concerned quarters to plan activities to make it a successful event.

The Kashmir Cell of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recommended several key messages, including "I am terrorised; I need food, medicine and care; I want my father back; We want to play too; I deserve a childhood too". It also proposed two trends "#HumansofKashmir" and "#ChildrenunderSeige".

PM Imran is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on the same day. He has already announced that he will highlight the Kashmir issue in his address, exposing the ethical and legal bankruptcy of India’s Aug 5 decision to annex the occupied valley.

Iranian forces allegedly move base along Syria-Iraq border
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Iranian military and their allies have moved one of their bases in the Deir Ezzor Governorate city of Albukamal after a string of Israeli Air Force strikes this month.

Citing opposition activists in the area, Syria’s al-Watan newspaper reported that the Iranian military and their allied groups moved their base that was recently struck by Israeli warplanes to an unknown location along the Syrian-Iraqi border.
"They'll never find us here!"
*BOOM*

This base, which was targeted by alleged Israeli drones, was struck earlier this month and resulted in the death of several Iraqi paramilitary fighters.

Hezbollah accused Israel, with support from the U.S., of carrying out this attack on the Iraqi paramilitary compound. In turn, Israel has not responded to these allegations from Hezbollah or the Syrian government.

The attack on this compound came shortly after the Israeli Air Force targeted a Hezbollah site inside the Aqraba area of southeastern Damascus. Israel later used a suicide drone to attack the Hezbollah media center inside the southern suburbs of Beirut city.

In response to these attacks, Hezbollah targeted a vehicle belonging to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) along Leb’s southern border. Hezbollah said one IDF soldier was killed, while Israel denied any causalities.

PPP and JUI-F agree on sending government home, opposition leaders say after meeting
[DAWN] Leaders of the PPP and Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...a Pak religious party. It is usually part of the govt, never part of the solution...
-Fazl (JUI-F) on Wednesday said that there are no differences between their parties on sending the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) government packing, but that the method of accomplishing that objective is still open to discussion.

The resolve came after JUI-F leader and convener of the opposition’s Rahbar Committee Akram Durrani called on PPP leaders Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and Sherry Rehman at the latter's office in the parliament.

The meeting was a part of JUI-F's efforts to get the PPP on board for its anti-government long march which is scheduled for next month. The PPP leadership has previously announced it will not join the march but promised to provide "moral and political support" to the JUI-F.

Speaking to news hounds following their meeting, Durrani said leaders of the two parties had "good" discussions.

He said the JUI-F and PPP had reached complete consensus on one idea: "We have to send this government home. We have to send this prime minister home."

Elizabeth Warren in New Hampshire: impeachment ‘not a matter of politics’. Really.
[BOSTONHERALD] U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Being Native American has been part of my story since the day I was born Warren
...Dem Senatrix from Massachussetts, who traces her noble lineage all the way back to Big Chief Spouting Bull. It has been alleged that she speaks with forked tongue but she denies that. She had a DNA test to prove her lineage and it turns out she's colorless...
says impeachment proceedings against President Trump are "not a matter of politics" but of constitutional responsibility ‐ applauding the House for finally launching an inquiry while hedging on its likelihood of success in the Senate.

"This is not a matter of politics. It is a matter of constitutional responsibility," Warren said in the opening of her campaign speech in Keene, N.H., Wednesday afternoon. "Nobody is above the law, not even the president of the United States."

Warren was the first major presidential candidate to call for Trump’s impeachment, doing so in April after the release of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on the Russia probe.

Five months later, she was praising the House for finally taking action after a whistleblower report said Trump urged Ukraine’s leader this summer to investigate rival and former Vice President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...Failed seeker of the Democratic presidential nomination on multiple occasions, vice president under Barack Obama, giving it a last try in his dotage for 2020...
and his son over Biden’s alleged effort to thwart an investigation of an energy company Hunter Biden was associated with.

"I’m glad to see that the House has stepped up," Warren said. "I hope we do it quickly, we can do an investigation here and get this done."

Warren later told news hounds, "I don’t know what the Senate will do under (Majority Leader) Mitch McConnell, but right now, we have to do what is right regardless of the politics."

Islamic Jihad seeking to build rockets in West Bank – report
[IsraelTimes] PA security forces said to arrest 3 terror operatives and seize rocket prototype in Tulkarem, from where projectiles could be fired at central Israel

The Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
terror group is seeking to set up rocket production capabilities in the heart of the West Bank, threatening to fire the projectiles at cities in central Israel, according to an Israeli television report.

Channel 12 news on Wednesday showed photographs of makeshift rockets assembled in Tulkarem and reported that three Islamic Jihad operatives were arrested in the northern West Bank city this week by Paleostinian Authority security forces.

The PA forces also seized a rocket prototype built by the cell, the report said.

The instructions for building the rockets reportedly came from Leb. The report said it was not clear if the orders were from Islamic Jihad or the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, both of which are backed by Iran.

Though the rockets produced by the Islamic Jihad cell were amateurish, the report noted they could be improved over time, threatening the heavily populated Tel Aviv metropolitan area and Israeli coastal plain.

Israel has accused Islamic Jihad of being behind recent violence emanating from the Gazoo

Tehran provides tens of millions of dollars each year to terror groups in the Gaza Strip, mainly to the Islamic Jihad and Hamas, which rules the enclave.

In June, the chief of Israel’s Military Intelligence addressed the prospect of war in Gaza, saying that Hamas is not interested in a large-scale conflict. But he added that the Islamic Jihad had far fewer responsibilities toward Gaza residents and thus less to lose in a war, making it a far likelier instigator of violence.

Those people who are enabling him, who assuaged their conscious, witness the kind of things he does on a regular basis, and we've heard the reports I've heard the reporting, the kind of things this person does to, moral vandalism of that office, those people that are enabling him -- there is a cold frigid place under the historical eye. They will go down in history as despicable actors who have enabled one of the presidents who's doing some of the worst things to that office in the entire history of our country," Booker declared.

Power shut off to more than 48,000 as fire danger persists in Northern California
[LATIMES] The Pacific Gas & Electric Co. proactively shut off power to more than 48,000 Northern Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, customers in the face of an elevated fire risk that was expected to continue through Wednesday evening.

Customers in parts of Butte, Nevada, Plumas and Yuba counties lost power at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. According to PG&E’s outage map, power was restored to some areas by 8 a.m., but regions near Chico and Yuba City were without electricity nearly six hours later.

Western parts of the Sacramento Valley and nearby foothills also remain under a severe fire threat, with high temperatures, strong winds reaching up to 40 mph and humidity levels of 10% to 20%, the National Weather Service said.

The fire warning in the northern portion of the state will be in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to dip the rest of the week.

The cool-down is already beginning in Southern California, where an early-season trough and a deep marine layer were settling in. As a result, temperatures in Los Angeles County will climb into the high 80s Wednesday before dropping to the mid-70s later this week, said Bonnie Bartling, a meteorologist with the weather service in Oxnard. There’s even a potential for drizzle on Friday and Saturday, she said.

"It’s just trying to bring us some fall," Bartling said.

Despite the cooler temperatures ahead, a fire warning remains in effect in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties until 9:30 a.m., the weather service said.

Southern California Edison shut off power Tuesday to 85 customers during the peak of the area’s fire risk. More than 150,000 customers were notified of the potential for power outages.

Police fire water cannon as Indonesians rally against new laws
[DAWN] Indonesian police fired water cannon and tear gas to break up protests on Tuesday, as tens of thousands of students gathered in cities nationwide over issues that included a new criminal code that penalises adultery and revised laws on corruption.

President Joko Widodo on Friday ordered a delay in parliament’s vote on the new criminal code, which would replace a Dutch colonial-era set of laws, saying a new parliament should deliberate on the bill next month.

The revisions to the code also include penalties for sex outside marriage, insulting the president’s dignity, a four-year jail term for child sacrifice abortions in the absence of a medical emergency or rape, and a prison term for black magic.

Though the vote was not included in Tuesday’s plenary session in parliament, some politicians have said they would try to come up with a new draft to bring it to a vote before their current term ends at the end of this month.

Students, often wearing colourful jackets from their alma maters, gathered in cities across the country. Thousands gathered in the front and back entrances to Jakarta’s parliament building, demanding to meet with parliament speaker Bambang Soesatyo.

Soesatyo held a news conference inside the building urging calm, but refused to answer questions from news hounds on whether the vote would be delayed until new parliament takes office, repeating the vote could happen in the current term.

Police then fired water cannon and tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

Indonesia’s benchmark stock index dropped more than one percnet on Tuesday, amid worries over domestic political tensions, said Fakhrul Fulvian, an economist with Trimegah Sekuritas.

Turkish bombardment kills 1 civilian in Duhok: official
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish warplanes attacked an alleged Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) target in the Chamanke area of Duhok late on Tuesday, killing a local shopkeeper, a district official told Rudaw.

Aland Amir, head of Chamanke district, said the bombardment took place at around 6pm local time on the area’s main road, suggesting the Ottoman Turkish jets may have been pursuing a suspected PKK vehicle.

Yusef Jamal, 19, who runs a shop at the area’s tourist resort, was killed in the strike. A number of shelters at the resort were also damaged.

"The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
bombards the area on a daily basis," Amir told Rudaw.

The Ottoman Turkish military is now in the third phase of Operation Claw, and air and ground offensive against the PKK in the Haftanin-Sinat regions of Duhok province.

The Ottoman Turkish Defense Ministry said in a tweet that its air forces had conducted air strikes against PKK positions in Duhok and that "three PKK turbans were neutralized". It did not mention civilian casualties.

The ministry claimed in an earlier tweet that Ottoman Turkish forces had "neutralized" three more suspected PKK fighters in the Avasin area, close to Chamanke.

Turkey uses the term "neutralized" to denote adversaries captured, maimed, or killed in combat.

There was no immediate statement from the PKK confirming the attack. However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
the PKK-affiliated Roj News reported a 20-year-old civilian had been killed in a Ottoman Turkish strike.

The PKK issued a statement on Tuesday claiming its fighters had killed two Ottoman Turkish "intelligence operatives" in Turkey’s southeast Mardin province on Saturday.

In an earlier statement on Monday it also claimed to have killed 15 Ottoman Turkish soldiers in different locations both inside and outside Turkey in recent days, including one in Haftanin, according to the PKK-affiliated ANF news agency.

Britain
23 arrested in Britain’s people-smuggling probes
[DAWN] British police announced on Tuesday that they had arrested 23 people as part of a series of investigations into suspected people smuggling.

The arrests were made between Sept 11 and 21, and included 11 individuals suspected of facilitating illegal crossings of the Channel ‐ between La Belle France and England ‐ in small boats.

Among those being held are British, Iraqi and Iranian nationals, according to the interior ministry.

"The organised crime groups behind the illegal attempts to cross the border, either by land or sea, are putting the lives of vulnerable people in serious danger for their own financial gain," said Steve Dann, director of the ministry’s criminal and financial investigations.

More than 80 people who entered Britannia illegally on small boats have been returned to Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
Border Force cutters are now patrolling the Channel, and equipment including CCTV and night goggles have been deployed on the French coast, according to police.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Report: U.S. Begins 'Tough' Visa Measures for Lebanese
[AnNahar] Washington has reportedly begun "tough" measures for Lebanese wishing to travel to the United States, the Saudi Asharq al-Awsat reported on Wednesday.

Quoting ministerial sources who spoke on condition of anonymity, the daily said the US Consulate in Beirut, which reports directly to the Department of Homeland Security, began to enjoy broad powers in terms of refusing renewal of US entry visas for some Lebanese and revoking entry visas for others before it expires.

The sources affirmed that the Consulate had refrained from giving entry permits or renewing them to a number of Lebanese deputies.

"Pro-Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
Health Minister Jamil Jibaq, was not the only one who could not renew the entry permit to be part of the delegation accompanying President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
to New York," they said.

"Even individuals with valid entry visas must contact the US Consulate in Beirut to ascertain they are still entitled to travel and that their visas are not cancelled," they added.

"Such measures also apply to Lebanese who have Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an citizenship (with Visa Waiver Program- VWP)," said the sources, noting that some "Lebanese with European nationalities had to return to the place where they traveled from upon arrival at US airports."

Lebanese officials brought that issue with US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker during his recent visit to Beirut, the sources said. But Schenker said the Secretary of State is not to blame for the measures.

Bill Kristol: Mitt Romney Has Helped Reassure Pelosi There Is Republican Support For Impeachment in Senate
[REALCLEARPOLITICS] Bill Kristol excitedly reports the prospect that Sen. Willard Mitt Romney
...former governor of Massachussetts, the Publican nominee for president in 2012, now Senator from Utah. He is the son of the former governor of Michigan, George Romney, who himself ran for president after saving American Motors from failure, though not permanently. Romney has a record as a successful businessman, heading Bain Capital, and he rescued the 2002 Winter Olympics from the midst of bribery and mismanagement scandals. He is currently a member of the Never Trump Party and is attempting to assume the mantle of the late John McCain...
's criticism of President Trump's call with the Ukrainian president may result in House and Senate Republicans supporting impeachment.

"I think this statement by DeLauro is very important," Kristol said of a key Pelosi ally calling for the impeachment of Trump. "That signals to me I think where Nancy San Fran Nan Pelosi
Congresswoman-for-Life from the San Francisco Bay Area, born into a family of professional politicians. On-again-off-again Speaker of the House. It's not her fault when they lose, but it's her accomplishment when they win. Noted for her heavily botoxed grimace and occasional senior... uhhh... moments...
is going."

"I think Romney has helped reassure maybe Speaker Pelosi that there is the possibility of Republican support. Maybe in the House. Incidentally, maybe in the Senate. If you take Romney's statement seriously, he is not just saying maybe the House should impeach. He is sort of saying maybe as a Senate Republican he would vote to convict. And suddenly if you have a couple more Republicans even sound somewhat like that, the notion that this is a purely partisan maneuver, there will be no Republican in the Senate who will even take it seriously that goes away."

Kristol also lamented that Trump's call with the Ukrainian president didn't take place a year ago while former special counsel Robert Mueller was probing the president's relationship with Russia.

"One reason this is so important is Trump as president is doing this directly from the Oval Office to the president of another nation," Kristol said Monday night on MSNBC. "Pretty different from his son meeting in a shady meeting in the Trump Tower in the middle of a chaotic campaign in 2016."

"Ironically another difference now is there is no Mueller investigation," he said. "I mean if this had happened a year ago someone would have said, House Democrats looking to avoid having to bite the bullet, would have said let's let Robert Mueller look into it. He's looking into everything else. Then we'll look at the report and make a decision."

Egypt detains more than 1,000 after anti-Sisi protests
The numbers keep getting bigger, oddly enough. Two days ago it was only 400.
[DAWN] Egyptian authorities have arrested more than 1,000 people, rights groups said on Wednesday, broadening a crackdown that has seen prominent critics detained after rare protests calling for the ouster of general-turned-President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The wave of arrests comes ahead of a "million-man march" on Friday called for by an exiled businessman whose online videos accusing Sisi and the military of corruption sparked last week's rallies.

The Egyptian Centre for Freedoms and Rights (ECRF) said 1,003 were tossed into the calaboose since the scattered demonstrations erupted last Friday in Cairo and other cities across the country.

The Egyptian Centre for Economic and Social Rights reported 1,298 arrested.

The high profile dissidents detained include Khaled Dawoud, a former leader of the liberal al-Dostour party who appeared in front of state prosecutors on Wednesday, his lawyers confirmed.

He was charged with disseminating fake news and joining a terror group, and was remanded in jug for 15 days, they added.

Dawoud will be tried as part of the same case as award-winning human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
lawyer Mahienour El-Massry and veteran labour union activist Kamal Khalil, both of whom were arrested over the past week, the lawyers said.

Detained British-Flagged Tanker Heads Out of Iran Waters
[AnNahar] A British-flagged oil tanker, which had been held off the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas for more than two months, has set sail, a specialist shipping website reported on Tuesday.

Government front man Ali Rabiei had announced on Monday that "the legal process has finished" and the Swedish-owned vessel was free to leave.

"This morning's satellite imagery captured by @planetlabs reveals that the #StenaImpero is NO LONGER ANCHORED at this location (27.07° N, 56.25° E)," TankerTrackers.com said on its Twitter account.

"She has been there since the second week of August."

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps surrounded the Stena Impero with attack boats before rappelling onto the deck of the tanker in the Strait of Hormuz on July 19.

The vessel was impounded at Bandar Abbas port for allegedly failing to respond to distress calls and turning off its transponder after hitting a fishing boat.

Stena Bulk, the company that owns the tanker, said on Sunday that it expected the vessel to be released soon, but had expressed caution about the situation.

The ship's seizure was widely seen as a tit-for-tat move after authorities in the British overseas territory of Gibraltar detained an Iranian tanker earlier in July on suspicion it was shipping oil to Syria in breach of EU sanctions.

A Gibraltar court ordered the Iranian tanker's release on August 15 despite an 11th-hour US legal bid to keep it in detention.

Tehran has repeatedly denied the two cases are related.

US, Turkey Stage Joint Patrols in Northeast Syria
[AnNahar] The US and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
launched a second round of joint patrols in northeastern Syria on Tuesday as part of plans to create a "safe" buffer zone, the Ottoman Turkish defence ministry said.

Four Ottoman Turkish armoured vehicles crossed the border to join US forces in Syria, state news agency Anadolu said, for patrols around the town of Tal Abyad.

The ministry said drones were also deployed.

Washington and Ankara reached a deal last month to establish a safe zone between the Ottoman Turkish border and Syrian areas east of the Euphrates river controlled by the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

The first joint patrols were conducted on September 8.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Rivlin taps Netanyahu with forming coalition
[IsraelTimes] President Reuven Rivlin taps Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to form a new coalition, for the second time in five months.

The move comes after efforts to force a unity agreement with Blue and White’s Benny Gantz fail.

Rivlin says he made the decision after consulting with party leaders.

Neither Netanyahu nor Gantz received 61 nominations from MKs, says Rivlin. He therefore decided to pick Netanyahu (55 votes) as he was better poised to form a government than Gantz, who received 54 nominations, 10 of whom ‐ the Arab politicians ‐ have ruled out joining a Gantz-led coalition.

Under the law, Rivlin has seven days after receiving the results to name someone to form a government, but has opted to move ahead without delay.

Netanyahu will now have 28 days to form a government, with a possible two-week extension.

If all attempts fail, Rivlin can then assign the task to someone else. After that, if 61 politicians nominate another candidate, that politician will also be given a chance.

Otherwise: Israel heads to its third election in a year.
