#20  It is expected that Manchin D-WV will vote to confirm...so with Flake, Corker and Manchin we only need one more to flip.

Seems there are a few red state Dem Senators that might just pull a last second switch and vote for.

If McConnell has any doubts about the outcome, there is nothing to prevent him from confirming Kavanaugh on a simple voice vote (The Ayes have it obviously) and that would give the red state Dems and others the cover they need.

So their Hail Mary is to allow anonymous unprovable allegations to stall or prevent nominations or bills to pass. Michael Moore's ‘Fahrenheit 11/9' Now Playing - In Empty Theaters
... or there's a lot of people disguised as empty seats!

[American Mirror] - The revenues for Fahrenheit 11/9 are dropping faster than filet mignon down Michael Moore’s gullet.

A review of numbers published by Box Office Mojo shows the revenues from Saturday’s peak ‐ the second day of the film’s release ‐ plunged 80 percent just four days later.

On September 22, Fahrenheit 11/9 brought in $1,187,602, according to the movie tracking site.

On Wednesday, September 26, it grossed only $240,718.

One of the handful of people who saw the anti-Trump screed that day posted a sad picture on Twitter of all the empty seats in his theater.

Ford F-Series REPO Man Truck Wars (video)
[AutoBlog] Florida man is at it again, this time going one-on-one with a tow truck to prevent his Ford Super Duty from being repossessed. The video above speaks for itself (including some mild swearing), leaving both the Super Duty and the hauler that was towing it away substantially worse for wear. The incident took place this month in Homestead, Florida, and resulted in the arrest of Yohanys Lopez, the F-250's driver.

From what we can piece together from the Orlando Sentinel and Carscoops, Lopez was behind on payments on the F-250. He saw the truck pulling away and ran to catch up in order to retrieve a few personal items. The tow truck driver saw Lopez enter the F-250, so he parked his F-450 and approached Lopez. He also began filming the incident on his phone. Lopez fired up his truck and made an unsuccessful attempt to free it from the tow truck. As the rear wheels were already in the air, it was never going to end well.

If you notice, the F-450 never really fights back as there isn't anyone behind the wheel. The F-250 is in four-wheel drive, so it does have a bit of pull from the front end. There are some gnarly snapping and grinding sounds as the F-250 struggles to free itself. The rear end of the truck is a hot mess by the end of the footage. The truck made it to the ground but couldn't break free from the safety chains.

Police arrested Lopez soon after the video ended. He's facing grand theft and criminal mischief charges.

Big Wave Surfer, Who Once Survived Shark Attack, Found Dead After Going Missing in Mexico
[People] Two weeks after being reported missing, the body of a popular big wave surfer was found in Mexico.

Adam Francis D’Esposito, also known as Biff, was discovered by Mexican officials near Rosarito, just over the U.S. border near San Diego, earlier this month but family members only learned of his death Wednesday, according to Fox 5 San Diego.

The local outlet also reported a coroner determined the 39-year-old’s cause of death was drowning. How exactly the accomplished water sportsman drowned remains unclear.

D’Esposito’s sister Briana D’Esposito confirmed the news on Facebook writing, "It is with great sadness and the deepest sorrow that we have confirmed the death of my brother, Adam Francis Kennedy D’Esposito also known as ’Biff.'"

"The details of my brother’s death are still being sorted out, we kindly ask for your respect during this confusing time. Our hearts are heavy as we come to terms with the fact that he is no longer with us," Briana continued.

"He was a very charismatic person with a big heart, passionate personality and a deep love for surfing."

"He had a huge heart for his young daughter and enjoyed spending so much time with her in his last few months. The impact that he had on so many was incredibly evident to my family through your support, love and efforts to help us during this highly stressful & worrisome time."

Genetic-Testing Startup Expands Beyond Cancer to Mental Health
[Bloomberg] A decade ago, Othman Laraki was working as a product manager at Google when he found out he was a carrier of a harmful BRCA2 gene mutation, one associated with a high risk of cancer.

It wasn’t a complete surprise -- his grandmother had died from breast cancer and his mother was a carrier of the mutation who had survived the disease twice. Still, it set his brain in motion. He’d been carrying around potential life-saving data in his body his entire life but had no easy way to access it.

"This information should be available and usable before people get sick," said Laraki. "And not after you’ve had multiple people in your family die of cancer."

Thus was born Color Genomics, a genetic-testing company co-founded in 2013 by Laraki that has attracted $150 million in investments from big names including billionaire Laurene Powell Jobs and the venture capital firm General Catalyst. Just this week, the Burlingame, California-based startup scored funding from the National Institutes of Health to analyze genomic data for the agency’s All of Us research program.

After first launching with a clinical-grade test for 19 genes associated with common hereditary cancers in 2015, the company on Thursday rolled out a significant expansion that seeks to capture a far larger swath of the booming genetic-testing market.

Powerful earthquake strikes Indonesia
A powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake shook Indonesia on Friday, hours after several tremblors struck the country, officials said.

The most intense quake struck the central Sulawesi region at around 6 p.m. and was centered at a depth of 6 miles about 35 miles northeast of Donggala, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake briefly triggered a tsunami warning that was later lifted.

It wasn’t immediately clear if there were any deaths as a result of the quake, but an official with Akris – the local disaster agency – told the Associated Press, “many houses have collapsed.”

“It happened while we still have difficulties in collecting data from nine villages affected by the first quake,” the official said. “People ran out in panic.”

Sutopo Purow Nugroho, a National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman, said communications with the earthquake-stricken region were disrupted.

“Our early estimation, based on experience, is that it caused widespread damage, beginning from Palu northward to Donggala,” he told MetroTV.

Earlier Friday, Indonesia was struck by multiple earthquakes. At least one person was killed and dozens of homes were damaged.

Highest Paying Jobs in America
[Money Watch] Americans eager for a high-paying job might want to focus on two industries: health care and technology.

That's because 18 out of the 25 highest-paying jobs are within those two sectors, according to a new analysis of salary data from employment site Glassdoor. The study analyzed data for job titles with at least 100 salary reports each.

Many of the occuapations highlighted by Glassdoor require years of training and study, which may prove impractical for those considering a mid-career shift. Yet there are some tech jobs open to those willing to get training or to acquire skills through hands-on experience, such as data scientist, said Amanda Stansell, an economic research analyst at Glassdoor.

"Job-seekers can look at the people in these roles and see how did they get to these roles and ask, 'Do I want to invest in these degrees?'" Stansell said. "We know that pay is one of the most important factors when people are looking at jobs."

Yet research also indicates that pay isn't what keeps workers happy. Once they are working in their new roles, employees say they're most satisfied by issues such as trust in senior leadership and workplace culture.

We're DOOMED!
A 'death comet' will be zipping passed earth just after Halloween this year.
The sketch is creepy.
The asteroid with a skull-like face will make its second trip near earth in three years after flying a worrisome 302,000 miles from our planet on October 31, 2015.
This year, the comet will be a much more comfortable 24 million miles away on November 11, Mother Nature Network reported.
We're doomed!
The comet, officially recognized as 2015 TB145, has a few nicknames including 'Halloween asteroid', 'death comet' and 'The Great Pumpkin' by NASA. The 2000-foot-wide rock gets the name 'death comet' not only because of its human skull face, but because it's believed to have been long-dead.
Alas, poor Orik. I barely knew you.
Numerous passes around the sun likely stripped the comet of its volatiles, according to Mother Nature Network.
Volatiles are things that go BOOM.
'We found that the object reflects about 6 percent of the light it receives from the sun,' said Vishnu Reddy, a research scientist at the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Arizona said in 2015. 'That is similar to fresh asphalt, and while here on Earth we think that is pretty dark, it is brighter than a typical comet which reflects only 3 to 5 percent of the light. That suggests it could be cometary in origin ‐ but as there is no coma evident, the conclusion is it is a dead comet,' Reddy said.
It's dead, Jim.
The Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia captured the asteroid in the early morning hours of Halloween 2015 during a different period in its rotation.
The 2015 flyby was the closest the eerie comet has come to earth.
In this lifetime, the comet's next closest visit will occur on November 1, 2088, at an even more comfortable distance of just over 5 million miles from earth.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad chooses new leader, remains close to Iran
[IsraelTimes] Syria-based Ziad al-Nakhala will take over as terror group’s secretary general from Ramadan Shalah, who is believed to be in a coma after an unknown illness.

Paleostinian terror group Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
selected a new leader for the first time in more than 20 years Thursday, a bigwig said, but is likely to remain close to Iran.

Syria-based Ziad al-Nakhala will take over as the movement’s secretary general from Ramadan Shalah, who has been suffering from serious health issues for months, the official said on condition of anonymity.

Shalah, who has led PIJ since 1995, is believed to be in a coma after an unknown illness, though the group has not publicly confirmed this.

The official said Nakhala was selected without a challenger, with a second source in the party confirming the announcement.

Nakhala, who was born in Gazoo in 1953, is close to both Iran and Lebanese terror group Hezbollah. He had been the deputy leader to Shalah since the 1990s.

Islamic Jihad is heavily backed by Iran. Alongside its Gazoo allies Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede,, PIJ has fought three wars with Israel since 2008.

It is considered a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, and the US labelled Nakhala himself a "global terrorist" in 2014.

It opposes the peace agreements signed between Israel and the internationally recognized Paleostinian leadership.

Dianne Feinstein: I Didn't Leak Dr. Ford's Letter To The Media - Must Have Been My Driver
[Hot Air] Late in the hearing today there was an exchange involving Sens. Cruz, Cornyn, and Feinstein over who leaked Christine Blasey Ford’s letter to the media. It began with Sen. Cruz accusing Democrats of leaking the letter to the media. "Dr. Ford told this committee that the only people to whom she gave her letter were her attorneys, the ranking member, and her Member of Congress," Cruz said. He continued, "And she stated that she and her attorneys did not release the letter which means the only people that could have released that letter were either the ranking member and her staff or the Democratic Member of Congress...That is not a fair process."

#1  Christine Blasey Ford: Feinstein Recommended Attorney Debra Katz to Me
Posted by: Bright Pebbles || 09/28/2018 8:13 Comments || Top||

#2  The Katz and Company team of attorneys probably released a summary of the letter to the media giving most of the talking points they wanted. And Feinstein referred Ford to Katz and Company.

If so the denials are technically accurate but intentionally misleading.

#3  Rather amusing when the question of the 'leak' came up during Kav testimony and Feinstein turned to staffers, then announces.... "wudn't them!"
Posted by: Besoeker || 09/28/2018 8:57 Comments || Top||

#4  Feinstein looked awfully feeble sitting there with her staff coaching her on what to say. She really needs to retire. Hopefully, California voters will make that decision for her in November.

And she really is the main villain in all of this. Dr. Ford is an old birdbrain who did not appear to understand the gravity of her situation. Possibly she is also a pathological liar but, still, not capable of understanding everything that was happening.

If Feinstein had a shred of decency she would have told Ford to forget the whole thing because there was no evidence. Instead she let this poor, befuddled sinecurist make a fool of herself in front of the whole world while besmirching the character of a good man.

If Feinstein wasn't such a Machiavellian she would have been forthright with Ford, "No, dear. You don't get to come out of the woodwork at the eleventh hour before a confirmation vote and demand an FBI investigation without any credible evidence."

But then, Feinstein is a Democrat and that's just the way they are.

Former Dem state Sen. Brian Joyce found Tango Uniform - Was facing federal trial for corruption
[Boston Herald] Former state Sen. Brian Joyce, facing a federal trial on charges he took bribes and kickbacks while in office, was found dead in his Westport home yesterday afternoon, officials said.

Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for the Bristol District Attorney’s Office said Joyce was found by his wife and no foul play is suspected.

The office of the chief medical examiner took custody of the body and an autopsy will be conducted in the coming days. The investigation is active and ongoing, Miliote said.

Officials reported that Joyce was involved in a car crash on Wednesday in Westport, but it is not related to his death.

Joyce, a Milton Democrat who served for nine terms, was awaiting a trial on federal corruption charges. He was arrested by federal authorities last year on 113 charges including racketeering, extortion, wire fraud and money laundering.

The 104-page, December 2017 indictment listed additional charges including mail fraud, embezzlement and conspiracy to impede and impair the functions of the IRS. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges, was ordered released on a $250,000 bond and was forced to surrender his passport.

Joyce allegedly used his state Senate office to take bribes and kickbacks as well. The kickbacks ranged from pounds of free coffee to a car. In all, the feds say it totaled about $1 million.

Joyce, 56, was first elected to the Senate in 1998 and announced in 2016, while under federal investigation on corruption charges, that he would not run for re-election.

Senate President Karen Spilka tweeted her condolences yesterday saying, "As authorities handle the appropriate investigations, my thoughts are with his family." The Massachusetts Democratic Party also released a statement, saying, "During this difficult time, our thoughts are with Senator Joyce’s family and friends."

Joyce was a graduate of Boston College and Suffolk University Law School. He and his wife, Mary, had five children.

Ex-Czech President Calls For 'Revolution' Of European Countries Against EU
[Hot Air] Another voice has weighed in on the current state of disarray in the European Union over questions of immigration, globalism and national identity.

The Washington Times was able to interview former Czech Republic President Vaclav Klaus this week and he shared some rather remarkable views about the future of the continent. In a wide-ranging discussion, Klaus talks about the need for a "revolution" in European nations, but not of the violent sort.

Making references to his own nation’s Velvet Revolution of nearly thirty years ago, he calls for a renewed recognition of independence and a rejection of the type of absolute control the EU is seeking to exert over its member nations.

Catholic magazine 'un-endorses' Brett Kavanaugh, American Bar Association demands an FBI investigation
Prof. Ford and high-powered legal team provided absolutely no evidence.
[THE WEEK] Not everyone was as impressed with Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's testimony Thursday as the man who nominated him, President Trump. Hours after the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing adjourned and a Friday morning confirmation vote affirmed, the American Bar Association urged the Senate to hit pause until after an FBI investigation and the prominent Jesuit magazine America rescinded its endorsement of Kavanaugh and urged his nomination withdrawn.

America's editors and the ABA gave similar reasons: Christine Blasey Ford's assault testimony was credible enough to merit a full investigation, and America needs to have confidence in the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh, a Catholic who attended a Jesuit high school, and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), his most impassioned supporter, both held up the ABA's unanimous well-qualified rating in Thursday's hearing as a marker of his character and judgment.

"The basic principles that underscore the Senate's constitutional duty of advice and consent on federal judicial nominees require nothing less than a careful examination of the accusations and facts by the FBI," ABA president Robert Carlson wrote to the Senate Judiciary Committee. "Deciding to proceed without conducting additional investigation would not only have a lasting impact on the Senate's reputation, but it will also negatively affect the great trust necessary for the American people to have in the Supreme Court."

Africa Subsaharan
Auzzie Damien Mander trains 'The Brave Ones' - Female Anti-Poaching Force
[BBC] Kelly Lyee Chigumbura was 17 years old when, she says, she was raped near her family’s home in Zimbabwe’s Lower Zambezi Valley. After realising she was pregnant with her rapist’s child, Chigumbura dropped out of school and put aside her dream of becoming a nurse. "My goals had been shattered," she says. "It was like I couldn’t do anything more with my life."

Chigumbura was jobless, with no skills and no prospects. Cultural norms among the Shona dictate that, should a mother lack the resources to take care of her child, it’s given to the father’s parents. So against Chigumbura’s wishes, the rapist’s mother took the baby ‐ a little girl Chigumbura named Yearn Cleopatra ‐ to raise as her own. Chigumbura was not even permitted to visit her daughter. When she came by, the grandmother would spin stories to shoo her away, telling her that her baby was in Mozambique, for example.

"Everything was misery," Chigumbura says with a sigh.

It went on like this for three years, until one day, when Chigumbura was 20, the village head pulled her aside. An Australian named Damien Mander was looking for female recruits to become wildlife rangers, and the village head thought Chigumbura was an excellent candidate. If selected, she would be responsible for patrolling and protecting the nearby Phundundu Wildlife Park: a 115 square mile former trophy hunting area that is part of a larger ecosystem home to some 11,000 elephants.

Europe
Globalism no longer trendy. It's not just Trump. Much of America has turned its back on Europe
BLUF:
[Guardian] A former US secretary of state tells me just how little interest audiences across the country now express in foreign policy. Anyone who experiences American airports, highways, trains or schools can easily understand why Americans would now want to focus more on improving them rather than airstrips and schools in Afghanistan or Iraq. America First is not just a Trump slogan. It is a national mood, to which even the most internationalist president would have to adapt.

Trump is awful, but in this respect, he is as much symptom as cause. The problem of transatlantic divergence was there before Trump, has underlying causes deeper than Trump, and will still be with us after Trump.

To be sure, the 100 years of on-off transatlantic partnership since the Meuse-Argonne offensive of September 1918 have left a massive legacy: the biggest, closest, international economic intertwining in the world; the Nato security alliance, with a renewed mutual defence commitment thanks to Putin; as well as a matchless cultural and intellectual intimacy. The transatlantic west is still a mighty, muscular body ‐ but with a wandering mind, a weakened heart and a divided soul.

Michael Z. Williamson: Yes, Women Lie About Rape, All The Fucking Time
The language might be a bit strong for some

...An acquaintance is an EEO officer for a large military installation. Divorce is sadly common in the military due to relocations, duty cycles, separations for deployment, and occasionally for things like infidelity (less than you might expect. There's a half-joke about "Are you married?" "No, I'm temporary duty." And a lot of couples tolerate or enjoy that just to take some of the stress off, with the understanding that once those months or years of separation are done, they're a couple)(they're not asking for your moral judgment, so stuff it).

He reports that several times a MONTH, a woman (spouse) filing for divorce would come in, and accuse the service member of abuse, violations, etc.

He could immediately tell which ones were fake. They were literally word for word from a popular TV show episode about this.

But, every one of these cases must be "investigated," which pulls someone off duty for questioning, and impedes anything in their mission that involves a security clearance, and costs YOU, the taxpayer, tens of thousands of dollars.

Because some lying whore wants a bigger cut of a pension, or to fuck someone's career over and hurt them for life because they're angry at how their life isn't a fairy tale.

You know who else suffers from this?

ACTUAL VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS of abuse and sexual assault, who try to speak, and get a response of (eyeroll), oh, god, not this shit again.

So when Christine Ford can't remember if it was 2, 4, or 6 people present at a party where she admits she was drinking underage, or where it was, or how she got there, or how she got home, and didn't tell anyone, and 6 of the 4 witnesses say it never happened, and she couldn't get to Congress on Monday because she's terrified of flying, but has 100,000 frequent flyer miles from vacationing in the Pacific...

It's reasonable to assume she's LYING about remembering absolutely that it was a candidate she opposes politically, who belongs to a party she's publicly vowed to hinder in any way possible.

And stop with the bullshit that she has "nothing to gain," because she's already gained $500,000 from a gofundme, notoriety, headlines, and may even get a book deal. And most importantly, might fuck with our constitutional process to make it easier for her Nazi fucking Demorrhoid Party to control the government.

She's a lying whore, and anyone with any analytical sense has known that from the beginning.

California Schools Pushing Racist, LGBT, SJW Agenda on Children

...Examples of what’s being taught:

The Santa Barbara Unified School District adopted curriculum from the Institute for Equity in Education, a project of JUST Communities:

"White People: A term used to describe people of European ancestry, who have historically held positions of dominance, privilege, and social power in Western society. This term has changed over time based on societal notions of those in power."
"Collusion (of white people) working together to make something happen...‐intentionally or unintentionally‐consciously or unconsciously‐by action, inaction, or silence."
"(White People) Privilege: Unearned access to resources that enhance one’s chances of getting what one needs, or influencing others in order to lead a safe, fulfilling, productive life."
California Department of Education, transitional kindergarten through grade three...explains gender:

"Some people say there are only two genders. But there are really many genders. And for some people there are more than just two choices. These are just a few words people use: trans, genderqueer, non-binary, gender-fluid, transgender, gender-neutral, agender, neutrois, bi-gender, third-gender, two-spirit..."
"...and there are even more words people are using to describe their experience. This is called gender spectrum."
"Babies can’t talk, so grownups make a guess by looking at their bodies."
And that's why they're sure of their eventual victory

-Short Attention Span Theater-
The Future of Disaster Relief Isn't the Red Cross
[Outside Magazine - 2016 Article] Team Rubicon began in 2010 with a unique dual mission: providing disaster relief and giving struggling American veterans a vital sense of purpose. The program has a reputation for ignoring best practices and obliterating red tape, and it has already disrupted the aid industry. Now founder Jake Wood wants to take on the Red Cross.

Jake Wood founded Team Rubicon a year after returning from Afghanistan, where he served as a Marine sniper. It was January 12, 2010. Wood, then 26, was in boxers on his couch in Burbank, California, when, 16 miles west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, a previously unmapped fault line ruptured. The resulting 7.0-magnitude earthquake killed at least 160,000 people and displaced one million more. By week’s end, Wood was in the disaster zone, helping to splint the compound fracture of a 14-year-old girl and curing his post-deployment boredom with the comfort of chaos.

Wood didn’t go to Haiti alone. He spent the first four days after the quake assembling a team of eight volunteers, including two doctors, Team Rubicon cofounder William McNulty, a former intelligence contractor in Iraq, and Mark Hayward, a retired Army Special Forces medic. While Wood hustled in Burbank, McNulty, a compulsive and gifted organizer who lived in Washington, D.C., got permission from a contact at the Haitian embassy for the loose-knit team to transport medical narcotics and perform what amounted to a special-ops aid mission. McNulty, then 32, also used his connections as a Jesuit to set up a base of operations at a seminary in the disaster zone.

Please see comment #2 below for current update.

Saleh Ali: Terrorism Doesn't Need Organization
BLUF:
[Victory Girls] So when the extremists here take it upon themselves to demonstrate their displeasure with their lot in life by staging attacks, they don’t need a terrorist affiliation. They don’t need formal ties to terrorist organizations. They need a computer and an internet connection. And that’s why law enforcement will many times confirm that there is not link to terrorist organizations, because ISIS and AQ probably won’t even know these troglodytes exist until they launch an attack, at which point the terrorist group can claim responsibility and laud the malcontent for striking at the enemy.

I doubt this means the police are somehow trying to downplay the terrorism angle.

It simply means they have found no connection to any formal terrorist organization, even though they may be guided or inspired by ISIS or others.

Mysterious envelope slip from Democrat to Ford's attorney caught on VIDEO at Kavanaugh hearings
[RT] A Democrat congresswoman was caught on video slipping an envelope to Christine Blasey Ford's attorney during a Senate hearing on accusations against SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh, triggering a wave of speculation on its contents.

The envelope slip by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) was very brief and quite secretive, yet it did not escape the cameras.

The mysterious transfer prompted speculations on what exactly was inside the envelope, with the leading ‐ and obvious ‐ theory it contained a wad of cash.

Fly Air Niugini to Chuuk International Airport (TKK) - Take Boat to Terminal
[BBC] A passenger aircraft has come down in a lagoon off Chuuk International Airport in Micronesia after it overshot the runway, say airport officials.

Images circulating online showed the Air Niugini plane, from Papua New Guinea, sitting in shallow water just off the coast.

None of the 35 passengers and 12 crew onboard flight ANG73 suffered serious injuries.

The cause of the crash is unclear, but investigations are due to begin soon.

"The plane crashed in the lagoon, about 160 yards away from the runway," Chuuk airport manager Jimmy Emilio told the BBC.

"Right now we don't really know what happened. Investigations will start earliest tomorrow, but [for now], operations are starting again as usual in the airport."

Mr Emilio said all those onboard the Boeing 737-800 aircraft were taken to hospital for checks, saying he believed some suffered from "minor injuries".

The aircraft was flying from the island of Pohnpei in Micronesia to Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, stopping at Micronesia's Weno island on the way.

Graham: ‘If You're Looking for a Fair Process, You Came to the Wrong Town'
[National Review] In an impassioned statement delivered during Brett Kavanaugh’s Thursday hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina lambasted his Democratic colleagues for concealing the allegations of sexual assault levied by Christine Ford.

"If you wanted an FBI investigation you could have come to us. What you want to do is destroy this guy’s life, hold this seat open, and hope you win in 2020. You’ve said that, not me," Graham shouted. "This is the most unethical sham since I’ve been in politics and if you really wanted to know the truth, you certainly wouldn’t have done what you did to this guy."

"Boy y’all want power, God I hope you never get it. I hope the American people can see through this sham, that you knew about it and you held it, you had no intention of protecting Dr. Ford, none!" he added. "I hate to say it because these have been my friends, but if you were looking for a fair process, you came to the wrong town at the wrong time."

Fox News Gregg Jarrett: Hirono should 'shut the hell up' about allegations against Kavanaugh
[The Hill] Fox News anchor Gregg Jarrett said Thursday Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono (Hawaii) should "shut the hell up" when it comes to speaking out against sexual assault allegations.

Jarrett appeared on Fox Business' "Lou Dobbs Tonight" to discuss Thursday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearings with Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who has accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault.

Jarrett told the panel that Hirono, one of four women who sit on the committee, should not be taken seriously because she thinks all men are to blame for sexual assault.

"Hirono is not serious because she believes that all men in America are responsible for sexual assault. All men should shut up," Jarrett said.

"No, Senator Hirono should shut the hell up," Jarrett continued.

Dobbs then cut to commercial break by joking that the group would "shut up just for a moment."

The Hill has reached out to Hirono’s office for comment.

#1  I don't want to hear that Gregg Jarrett thinks. And I don't want to hear that conservative pundits think.
I want to hear that the firm Russel Ford works for is being audited by IRS. Treasury officials find irregularities (there are sure to be some) in Palo Alto University's use of federal funds. ICE checks if the Fords ever employed illegals. FBI interviewing every f*cking student ever came in contact with here since she started teaching. Ah, and somebody going over her published papers to find research irregularities (there are sure to be some).
And I want all these things because turnaround is fair play.

Radical Abortion Supporters Campaign to Censor Pro-Lifers
[Free Beacon] A group of radical abortion supporters are asking Twitter to prevent pro-life activists from promoting their tweets.

Reproaction, an activist group aimed at "increasing abortion access," is circulating a petition to censor pro-life content on the social media site. The group says Twitter should not have reversed its controversial decision to block a 2017 ad from Tennessee Senate candidate Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R., Tenn.) that featured her discussing Planned Parenthood's organ harvesting operations. The controversy led a Twitter official to apologize to Blackburn during a July House Judiciary Committee hearing on social media bias.

Reproaction said the company was wrong to apologize to the Republican congresswoman. It wants social media sites to apply the ban on Blackburn to other pro-life arguments and activists. Ads like Blackburn's should be purged from Twitter as "dangerous rhetoric" prohibited under the site's ban on "ads making misleading or deceptive claims," according to Reproaction.

"Stop bending to the will of anti-abortion leaders who seek to spread lies and misinformation," the petition says. "Stop the spread of pro-life lies."

One of the groups that has previously been censored by Twitter said the petition is the latest attempt by pro-abortion forces to marshal private companies to silence conservative voices. Susan B. Anthony List, a group that works to elect pro-life women, has seen a number of ads and promoted Tweets restricted by social media sites and radio stations, including one spot that featured a pro-life quote from Mother Teresa. SBA List spokeswoman Mallory Quigley said censorship campaigns are a sign of desperation.

Megyn Kelly: Blasey Ford's Testimony Planted ‘Seeds of Doubt' About Kavanaugh Accusation
[Free Beacon] Megyn Kelly, host of NBC's "Megyn Kelly Today" and a former defense attorney, on Thursday argued there are several key weaknesses of the sexual assault allegation against Supreme court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Kelly spoke directly after Ford’s testimony, in which she described an alleged attempted sexual assault by Kavanaugh, and addressed its impact on her credibility. "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd said Arizona prosecutor Rachel Mitchell failed to "undermine her credibility," but Kelly said that wouldn’t have been the right line of argument for Republicans in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"I don't think they were trying to undermine, completely put a lie to the story, because that's not possible. It's her memory," Kelly told Todd.

Kavanaugh has denied the allegation. Ford says she does not remember where or when the gathering occurred during which she was assaulted, and none of the others she says were present have backed up her story.

Kelly still credited Ford for being "sincere" and bringing a "compelling" testimony.

"She's a compelling witness. She absolutely seemed sincere," Kelly added. "I don't think they're dumb enough to think the people at home are going to reject that testimony as completely false. What they were trying to do is plant little markers."

Kelly said those markers came at various points during Mitchell’s questioning.

#3  I understand that Ford travels by airplane a lot. Then she used fear of flying as an excuse not to fly cross country to testify. She also mentioned in her testimony that driving was better than being cooped up in an airplane (or something to that) effect. That comment just rolled off her tongue like all the rest of her testimony. I also heard somewhere that she was in Baltimore when she said she didn't want to fly cross country, so she had to decline to agree to someone flying over to the West coast to interview her, my guess is probably because the explanation for the disconnect would be awkward.

Is any/all of this wrong? Right?

Those Who Unmake Civilization
h/t Instapundit
I've been listening to crazy people saying things like someone isn't entitled to the presumption of innocence, or that an accusation that is not only unproven but unprovable is "corroborated" in growing alarm. What goes through my mind is "this is the way you un-make civilization.

Part of the problem is that our civilization ‐ arguably, at least in terms of keeping the most people alive and in relative comfort ‐ is not normal in the history of the world.

This strange idea that each individual has rights, that the rights are inherent to them, that they deserve to be given due process, and not simply destroyed because someone ‐ anyone, or one of their betters ‐ accused them of something, is not only bizarre in terms of historical societies. It’s also something that took a long time to work itself through.

And ever since it’s been created there have been attempts to take it back to "normal human society."

IDF releases photos of alleged Hezbollah missile sites near Beirut airport
[IsraelTimes] After Netanyahu’s revelations at UN, army says the Iran-supported facilities are being used to convert regular missiles into precision-guided ones

The Israeli military on Thursday released satellite images of three sites in Beirut that it says are being used by the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group to hide underground precision missile production facilities.

The sites, located within close proximity of Beirut’s international airport, were first revealed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday night, during his speech at the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
General Assembly.

The factories, which are meant to convert regular missiles into more accurate precision ones, are not believed to be up and running. The Israel Defense Forces said they are currently being constructed with Iranian assistance.

The target of the Israeli Arclight airstrike last week, in which a Russian spy plane was inadvertently shot down by Syrian air defenses, was machinery used in the production of precision missiles, which was en route to Hezbollah, The Times of Israel has learned.

According to Netanyahu, these precision missiles are capable of striking with 10 meters (32 feet) of their given target. Hezbollah is believed to have an arsenal of between 100,000 and 150,000 rockets and missiles, though the vast majority are thought to lack precision technology.

They army said the facilities are "another example of Iranian entrenchment in the region and the negative influence of Iran."

Holding up aerial photos of the alleged Hezbollah facilities, Netanyahu warned: "Israel knows what you are doing, Israel knows where you are doing it, and Israel will not let you get away with it."

Netanyahu accused the Lebanese terror group of "deliberately using the innocent people of Beirut as human shields."

According to the Israel Defense Forces, Hezbollah began working on these surface-to-surface missile facilities last year.

Reports that Iran was constructing underground missile conversion factories in Leb first emerged in March 2017.

Since then, Israeli officials have repeatedly said that Israel would not abide such facilities.

In January, Netanyahu said Leb "is becoming a factory for precision-guided missiles that threaten Israel. These missiles pose a grave threat to Israel, and we will cannot accept this threat."

One of the alleged sites is located under a soccer field used by a Hezbollah-sponsored team; another is just north of the Rafik Hariri International Airport; and the third is underneath the Beirut port and less than 500 meters from the airport’s tarmac.

These three are not the only facilities that the IDF believes are being used by Hezbollah for the manufacturing and storage of precision missiles.

"Israel is monitoring these sites with a variety of capabilities and tools, has significant knowledge of the precision project and is working to fight it with a variety of operational responses, techniques and tools," the army said.

In May, Netanyahu said Israel was "operating against the transfer of deadly weapons from Syria to Leb or their manufacture in Leb."

In recent years, Israel has acknowledged conducting hundreds of airstrikes in Syria, which it says were aimed at both preventing Iran from establishing a permanent military presence in Syria and blocking the transfer of advanced munitions to Hezbollah in Leb.

The Israeli Air Force has largely abstained from conducting raids inside Leb itself, though it has indicated that it was prepared to do so.

Earlier this year, IAF chief Amiram Norkin showed visiting generals a picture of an Israeli F-35 stealth fighter flying next to Beirut’s airport, in what was seen as a direct message to Hezbollah.

Israel fought a punishing war with Hezbollah in 2006. Jerusalem believes the group has since re-armed with tens of thousands of missiles that can threaten all of Israel.

20 Palestinians said hurt in clashes with IDF troops securing Nablus holy site
[IsraelTimes] Israeli forces use live fire, rubber bullets, and tear gas on locals who hurled Molotov cocktails and stones at them prior to entry of 1,500 Jewish worshipers to Joseph’s Tomb.

Violent festivities broke out between Paleostinians and Israeli security forces that entered Nablus late Wednesday night to secure the northern West Bank city ahead of the pilgrimage of some 1,500 Jewish worshipers to the Joseph’s Tomb holy site.

Twenty locals, including two Paleostinian journalists, were maimed from IDF efforts to disperse the demonstrators, which included live fire, rubber bullets, and tear gas, the Paleostinian news site Ma’an reported.

Footage from the scene shows demonstrators hurling stones and Molotov cocktails at the Israeli convoy entering the city.

There were no reports of injuries among Israeli troops and the IDF said the thousands Jewish worshipers entered and left Joseph’s Tomb without incident.

Joseph’s Tomb is located inside Area A of the West Bank, which is officially under complete Paleostinian Authority control, though the Israeli military conducts activities there on its own volition. The IDF bars Israeli citizens from entering Area A without prior authorization.

The site is venerated by Jews, Christians and Moslems, and has often been a flashpoint for sectarian violence. Jewish pilgrims are usually only allowed to visit the tomb once a month under heavy-armed guard. During these visits, Paleostinians routinely throw rocks at the troops, and sometimes attack them with Molotov cocktails and gunfire.

Separately, the army said that it tossed in the clink
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
11 Paleostinians suspected of "involvement in terror activity" in raids throughout the West Bank overnight Wednesday-Thursday.

Juanita Broadrick Shows Up at Kav Hearing To 'Look Hypocrite Dems In The Eye'
Juanita Broaddrick, a woman who has accused Bill Clinton of rape, showed up outside the Senate calling Democrats "hypocrites" for not believing her allegations.

Broaddrick told the Daily Caller in an interview that she showed up at the Senate to "look hypocrites Schumer, Durbin and Feinstein in the eye and ask for an apology."

Broaddrick calls the hearing today a "double standard."

"I have twenty times more evidence for my rape by Bill Clinton than Dr. Ford has against Kavanaugh," Broaddrick says, "Democrats turned their backs on me. They refused to read my testimony or acknowledge me in 1999 when I went public with my story. Democrats turned their backs on me."

Broaddrick said that the mantra the ’All women deserve to be believed" does not apply to her.

"All women are to be believed if they’re not conservatives and as long as the assault was not done by Democrats."

Broaddrick brought up the domestic abuse allegations against DNC Co-Chair Keith Ellison: "Ellison is leading the Democratic party right now. He should be kicked out of office. Karen Monahan has 10 times the evidence that Dr. Ford does. Where is her hearing?"

Guatemala's military carried out genocide, court rules
[Al Jazeera] Guatemalan judges have unanimously ruled that the country's military carried out genocide and crimes against humanity, but in a 2-1 decision acquitted former intelligence chief Jose Mauricio Rodriguez of all charges.

According to the decision, handed down late on Wednesday, there was no evidence Rodriguez was involved in or ordered others to take part in the genocide during the country's decades-long armed conflict.

Over the course of the war, which began in 1960 and formally ended in 1996, more than 200,000 people were killed and another 43,000 were forcibly disappeared. More than 80 percent of the victims were indigenous Maya people. The worst of the atrocities took place in the Maya Ixil region, 225km northwest of Guatemala City.

"Inhuman acts were committed against the civilian population," said tribunal president Maria Eugenia Castellanos.

"We are moved," she added, referring to the countless survivors' testimonies of military forces carrying out killings, massacres, rape, theft of children, bombing, displacement and forced starvation.

Arabia
Saudi FM seeks apology from Canada, says doesn’t want anything to do with Qatar
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir demanded an apology from Canada on Wednesday, denouncing an "outrageous" tweet by Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland directed at the kingdom last month, and accusing them of treating the kingdom like "a banana republic."

"What are we? A banana republic? Would any country accept this?" al-Jubeir said at an event at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. "You owe us an apology. It is very easy to fix -- apologize, say you made a mistake."

Jubeir’s comments cast doubt over rumors that both countries would reach a quick resolution. Freeland had mentioned that she intended to speak to Jubeir on the sidelines of the UN meetings this week.

However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
Jubeir said that Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s stance in the dispute remains the same, and that Canada did not change its stance either.

"We did not do this, you did. Fix it. You owe us an apology. Apologize, say you made a mistake," he said. "In Canada we became a political football. Find another ball to play with, not Saudi Arabia."

Jubeir also criticized Canada for making such demands, adding that many countries like the US, UK and Germany have criticized Saudi Arabia over similar issues before, but never made demands.

"It is outrageous from our perspective that a country will sit there and lecture us, and make demands. ’We demand the immediate release’.. Really? We demand the immediate independence of Quebec and the equal granting of rights to Canadian Indians," Jubeir said.

“Palestine” confirmed to head massive bloc of developing countries at UN
[IsraelTimes] Egypt’s Sissi hands over to Abbas the presidency of G77, a group of 134 nations comprising some 80 percent of the world’s population

The State of Paleostine was formally handed on Thursday the presidency of the Group of 77, the largest bloc of developing nations at the UN.

The event took place minutes before Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
was to take the podium at the UN General Assembly, for a speech in which he was expected to harshly attack Israel.

Paleostine ‐ which is not a member state of the UN but has observer state status ‐ was chosen in July to head the so-called G77 plus China, a consortium now consisting of 134 nations that often speaks in one voice at the UN General Assembly, starting January 1, 2019. On Thursday, that decision was confirmed.

Abbas, speaking from his seat in the back of the room, promised that his government "will bear its responsibility and perform its duties in all honesty and integrity and in a manner that deserves the trust of the members of G77."

He said Paleostine was committed to work with all members and secretariat of the group. He did not mention Israel or other regional issues in his brief remarks.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who as outgoing president presided over the Thursday’s ministerial meeting, congratulated "my brother" Abbas on the confirmation.

In lieu of a formal vote, which will be held later, Sissi asked the forum if it supported handing the gavel to Abbas, a query which was met by a loud round of confirmative applause from delegates.

"I assure you that Egypt, along with all members of the group, will fully support the chairmanship of Paleostine, We’re convinced that Paleostine will advance the interests of all member states," he said at the meeting, held at the conference hall of the UN Economic and Social Council.

Ecuador’s Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, who presides over the current session of the General Assembly, noted that the Group of 77 comprises nearly three-quarters of UN members states, and about 80 percent of the world’s population.

The bloc has an "extremely important role of maintaining multilateralism, which never before since its establishment has it faced such challenges, such threats."

UN Secretary-General António Guterres hailed the G77 as a "champion of multilateralism" and addressed at some length the challenges of the developing world, but did not mention Paleostine’s election to the bloc’s presidency.

The G77 was originally founded in 1964 with 77 countries, including Egypt, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Brazil, Thailand, and India. Over the years it has grown to include countries such as South Africa, Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
, Cuba, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Singapore, and Angola.

In July, when Paleostine’s possible election was first reported, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon expressed misgivings about the move.

"The goal of the Group of 77 originally was to facilitate the economic advancement of underdeveloped nations," he told The Times of Israel. "It is unfortunate that it will now become a platform for spreading lies and incitement. This will not promote the G77’s goals, and encourages the Paleostinians to not engage in negotiations for peace."

India's Supreme Court rules adultery not a crime any more
[Al Jazeera] India's top court has ruled that adultery is no longer a crime, declaring the colonial-era law that punished the offence unconstitutional and discriminatory.

The court ruled unanimously on Thursday that Section 497, a 158-year-old law, "perpetuates the subordinate status of women, denies dignity and sexual autonomy, and is based on gender stereotypes".

The law criminalised consensual sexual relations between a man and a married woman without the consent of her husband.

Under the law, a man convicted could have faced up to five years in prison and women could neither file a complaint nor be held liable for adultery.

Section 497 has been criticised by rights groups for depriving women of dignity and individual choice, and treating them as the property of men.

Obama Won
By traditional metrics, Barack Obama’s presidency was mostly a failure. The economy, in a new first, never hit annualized growth of 3 percent. His signature domestic policy‐Obamacare‐caused chaos. Millions lost their coverage and doctors, and paid far more in deductibles and premiums. The stagnant recovery after the 2008 recession was the worst in 50 years.

Myriads of new regulations, higher taxes, and socialist jawboning vegetated the economy. Scandals at the IRS, Department of Veterans Affairs, FBI, CIA, National Security Agency, Justice Department, General Services Administration, and National Security Council abounded. Obama weaponized the federal government by punishing opponents through the IRS, monitoring suspect reporters, scapegoating and jailing a video maker, and using the deep state to exonerate Hillary Clinton from serial wrongdoing and to sabotage the 2016 Trump presidential campaign.

Abroad, a diplomatic "reset" empowered Vladimir Putin’s Russia from the Crimea to the Middle East. The Iran deal legitimized Iran’s ascendant Middle East hegemony. Chinese trade cheating was of no concern. ISIS was but a "JV" terrorist clique. North Korea freely pointed nuclear missiles at the West Coast. Israel and the Gulf monarchies and Egypt were no longer close allies. Outreach and deference instead were shown to Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. "Lead from behind" bombing of Libya led to a disaster. Nonexistent "red lines" in Syria, flexible nonproliferation "deadlines" issued to Iran, and rhetorical "step-over" lines given Vladimir Putin all eroded U.S. credibility. And on and on.

Lebanon detains Palestinian suspected of mass poisoning plots
[IsraelTimes] Man said to admit to link with Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, which instructed him to taint Lebanese army water and a foreign country’s food

Leb’s security forces said Thursday they had detained a descendant of Paleostinian refugees allegedly linked to the Islamic State terror group over two poisoning plots, one of Lebanese army water and another of food in a foreign country.

The man, born in 1991, admitted to links with an IS member in Syria "who tasked him with making explosives and concocting poison," the General Security force said in a statement.

He prepared to "concoct a quantity of deadly poison along with someone living in a foreign country" for two planned poisonings.

The first was to "poison one of the water tanks from which the Lebanese army’s trucks fill up on water every day to take it to the army barracks."

The second was to "carry out a mass poisoning in a foreign country" through "poisoning food during a public holiday," the statement said, without specifying the location.

The Paleostinian has been referred to the relevant judicial authority, the security forces said, and the authorities are looking for other people involved.

Leb has been heavily impacted by the civil war in neighboring Syria since it erupted in March 2011.

suspected IS members.

They are usually tried by military courts, but their trials have dragged on due to the amount of cases.

Leb has been rocked by several suicide kabooms since 2013, some of them claimed by IS.

The krazed killer group in August last year evacuated a Lebanese-Syrian border region under an unprecedented deal to end three years of jihadist presence there.

Yemen president at UN says talks with Houthis ‘doomed to fail’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Yemen’s president on Wednesday dismissed UN-led attempts to bring Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels to peace talks as "doomed to fail," telling the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
that a firm stance was needed to end the war.

Earlier this month, the Houthis failed to turn up at talks convened by a UN peace envoy in Geneva, leaving peace efforts in disarray as the Yemeni situation worsens.

"All attempts at peace that are made with this group are doomed to fail," President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi told the UN General Assembly, describing the Houthis as "forces of Evil who employ gangster-like tactics" and "create hate."

"Peace cannot be obtained by cajoling those gangsters as some member-states do," he said.

The United Nations invited Hadi’s government and the Houthis to Geneva to re-start talks that broke down in 2016.

But the Iran-aligned Houthis refused to leave the capital Sanaa, which they hold, and put forward a series of last-minute demands for the evacuation of maimed and the release of prisoners.

Hadi said the international community must be "resolute" and stick to Security Council resolutions that call on the Houthis to withdraw from territory they have seized.

Since 2015, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
has been leading the Arab Coalition to help restore Hadi’s internationally recognized government to power and push back the Houthis.

The United States, along with La Belle France and Britannia, have supported the Arab Coalition in Yemen.

Error depicting Israeli soldiers on Iran billboard causes outrage
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] On the occasion marking the 30th anniversary of the end of the war with Iraq that started in September 1980 and ended in August 1988, the Iranian Shiraz city in south of the country, put up a huge billboard of three soldiers glorifying them for fighting during the eight-year war.

But the story does not end here as this picture drew ridicule from people inside and outside Iran, as the photo was of Israeli soldiers and not Iranian soldiers.

Iranian media circulated widely the picture which sparked a wave of protest against the scandal in one of Iran’s largest cities and in a country that has been emboldened by threats against Israel for four decades, though none of them have been implemented.

The billboard which was erected in Namazi Square in Shiraz. shows three soldiers from the rear standing on a hill and looking ahead, with Persian verses alongside which said: "The wise men went and we still see their greatness ... and we see on the mountain their dark shadows" referring to Iranian soldiers who died in the war with Iraq.

But later on, it turned out that the picture was of Israeli soldiers and was photoshopped, as the original picture wass of four soldiers including a female soldier with her hair exposed.

The image was cropped to remove the female IDF soldier. However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
the person who made the poster neglected to notice that the soldiers carried M-16s rifles which the Iranian army is not equipped with.
The Daily Mail has a picture of the thing here.
After a wave of criticism, the municipality of Shiraz was forced to remove the billboards from the streets of the city and issued an apology , saying it will punish those who published the advertisement.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
despite this apology, both the pro-regime and opposition media widely published the advertised picture, which provoked a mixture of sarcasm, criticism and astonishment.

PA reportedly arrests dozens of Hamas members in the West Bank
[IsraelTimes] Raids come a day after official PA news outlet reported that Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,-run security forces summoned dozens of Fatah members in Gazoo and locked away
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
several others

The Paleostinian Authority security forces arrested dozens of Hamas members in the West Bank early Thursday morning, the Hamas-linked al-Risalah reported, citing sources in the terror group.

The reported arrests come a day after the official PA news site Wafa reported the Hamas-run security forces summoned dozens of Fatah members in the Gazoo Strip and arrested several others, including the son of a Fatah Central Committee member.

The PA dominates urban centers in the West Bank, whereas Hamas controls controls Gazoo.

Wafa also reported the Hamas-run security forces threatened print shop owners with "arrests and beatings" if they printed materials in support of PA President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
ahead of his speech at the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
General Assembly on Thursday.

Fatah, the PA, and the Paleostine Liberation Organization have been organizing events in support of Abbas and his upcoming speech.

Hamas front man Sami Abu Zuhri
...a senior spokesman for Hamas. Zuhri gained notoriety in 2006 when he dropped his money belt containing somewhere between 640,000 and 900,000 euros, which was confiscated by Paleostinian security and customs officials at a routine border crossing from Egypt to Gaza. The news brought competing Hamas and Fatah forces to the crossing checkpoint for an epic face-making and hollering contest...
lashed out at the PA security forces following the report about the West Bank arrests.

"The Abbas security forces’ arrests of dozens of Hamas members in the West Bank represents a dangerous escalation," Abu Zuhri tweeted Thursday morning.

Since Hamas forcibly took over Gazoo in 2007, the PA has cracked down on its activities in the West Bank and frequently arrests its members.

In the same period of time, Hamas has heavily limited Fatah’s activities in Gazoo.

The reported arrests also come as reconciliation efforts between Hamas and Fatah appear to be at a standstill.

In October 2017, the two rival parties agreed to an Egyptian-brokered deal to advance reconciliation efforts, which sought to bring the West Bank and Gazoo under one government. However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
Hamas and Fatah failed to implement the agreement.

For more than the past year, Abbas has cut some PA budgets allocated to Gazoo.

More recently, however, Abbas has suggested he will cut all funding allocated to Gazoo if Hamas does not hand over full control of the coastal territory to the PA.

The PA sends $96 million to Gazoo monthly, according to Fatah Central Committee member Hussein al-Sheikh.

Hamas leaders have slammed Abbas for cutting funding to the Gazoo Strip.

On Wednesday, Mahmoud al-Zahar, a member of the Hamas Politburo, told Dunya al-Watan, a Gazoo-based news outlet, that Abbas "must be put on trial" for cutting budgets to the Strip.

As Syrian troops return to Golan, Israel ready to reopen crossing to UN staff
[IsraelTimes] Touring northern front, defense minister brushes off Trump’s comments on Paleostinian state, says he only cares about a Jewish state.

QUNEITRA CROSSING ‐ Israel completed the necessary preparations to reopen its main crossing with Syria to UN troops after a four-year closure, leaving the checkpoint’s fate in the hands of Syrian dictator Bashir al-Assad, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman announced Thursday.

"Everything is ready and set," Liberman said at a presser at the site. "It’s all on the other side [to decide] now."

This Israeli offer to reopen the Quneitra Crossing would restore the situation along the border between the two countries to what it was prior to the Syrian civil war, which began in 2011.

Through the metal gate separating the two sides, Syrian crews could also be seen working. Israeli officials speculated that the crossing could reopen in the coming weeks.

Liberman stressed that Israel was demanding that Syria abide by "every single section" of the 1974 ceasefire agreement between the two countries, which ended the 1973 Yom Kippur War and created a demilitarized zone along the border.

During the presser, the defense minister also briefly discussed comments made by US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
about his apparent support for the creation of a Paleostinian state as a solution to the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict. Trump appeared to backtrack hours later during a frenzied news conference on the sidelines of UN General Assembly, saying that the actual solution was less important to him, so long as there was a peace deal in the end.

"A Paleostinian state doesn’t interest me. What interests me is the Jewish state," Liberman said.

The defense minister reiterated his calls for Arab citizens of Israel to become part of a future Paleostinian state, saying they were the "main issue."

Liberman refused to comment on any developments in Israel’s ongoing crisis with Russia over the downing of a Russian spy plane by Syria during an Israeli air raid last Monday.

"We have no interest in having a conversation with Russia through the media," he said.

Liberman said he would only reiterate the importance of Israel’s continued coordination efforts with Russia and sent condolences to the families of the 15 soldiers killed in the friendly-fire incident, which Moscow has blamed fully on Israel.

In recent months, Assad’s military ‐ aided by Russia ‐ wrested back control of southwest Syria from local rebel groups.

The Quneitra Crossing was shuttered in August 2014 following a number of attacks by Syrian rebels, which drove out the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
peacekeeping force that controlled the crossing.

The UN Disengagement Observer Force, known by its acronym UNDOF, has slowly returned to the border between Israel and Syria ‐ a move that was welcomed by Jerusalem.

"UNDOF troops have started working and patrolling, with IDF assistance. This shows that we are ready to open the crossing as it was before. The ball is now in Syria’s court," Liberman said.

The peacekeeping troops could be seen monitoring the border crossing from an adjacent metal guard tower.

Liberman said the decision to reopen the crossing does not change Israel’s relationship with the Syrian regime or with Assad, whom the defense minister called a "war criminal."

The crossing has in the past primarily been used by the Druze population in both countries, but if it reopens, it will mostly serve the UNDOF soldiers, allowing them to pass through it for one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening.

In addition to serving as a pedestrian crossing for the Druze living in Syria and the Israeli Golan Heights, the crossing has also been used to transport apples from Israel to Syria, which Liberman said could happen again.

Autopsy shows Egyptian monk set to testify in abbot killing was poisoned

[IsraelTimes] Zeinoun al-Maqari died a day before he was scheduled to speak to prosecution about St. Macarius monastery leader killed amid power struggle

An autopsy on a Coptic Orthodox monk who had until recently belonged to a monastery northwest of Cairo whose abbot was killed in July showed clear signs of poisoning, Egyptian security and medical officials said on Thursday.

They said the autopsy was performed late Wednesday, hours after the monk was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital at Assiut, the closest city to the al-Muharraq monastery where the monk has lived since last month. He was buried Wednesday night in St. Macarius monastery, where he joined as a novice more than a decade ago and the scene of the killing of the abbot, Bishop Epiphanius.

Zeinoun al-Maqari died a day before he was scheduled to testify for the prosecution in the trial of two monks ‐ one of whom has been defrocked ‐ charged with the killing of the abbot.

Hearings were adjourned until October 27.

Zeinoun was among six monks from St. Macarius who were banished to different monasteries across the country as part of disciplinary action taken by the church following the death of Epiphanius. The officials said questioning of witnesses and monks following his death showed that Zeinoun might have been an accomplice in the killing, but did not explain why he has not been placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
The officials said the autopsy showed signs of an agricultural insecticide commonly used in southern Egypt, where al-Muharraq monastery is located. The insecticide is sold in tablets, which are diluted in water before it is manually sprayed on crops.

Zeinoun was dying when monks went to his cell early Wednesday to fetch him for the traditional pre-dawn prayers. He was rushed to a hospital but died before he arrived there, they said. He is believed to have been in his early 40s, according to the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak to the media.

Epiphanius’ killing has shaken Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church, one of the oldest in the world and the one that gave monasticism to the faith. The church’s monastic desert traditions had largely vanished before being revived over the past century. Its monks, mostly university graduates, are now the face of the church and that is why, together with the fact that the main suspects are monks, the killing took on added significance.

It also exposed a side of the church that few in Egypt ‐ Moslem or Christian ‐ knew existed, including the growing power and independence of monks in remote monasteries who appear to be at odds with Tawadros II, the church’s spiritual leader, and the top holy manal leadership.

Egypt’s Christians, about 10 percent of the country’s 100 million people, have long complained of discrimination, such as rigid regulations on building new churches or restoring existing ones. They also complain they are denied some jobs, like in security and intelligence agencies, and that their homes and businesses are frequently targeted by Moslem mobs in rural regions.

Britain
Hundreds protest at UK court for far-right activist Tommy Robinson
[IsraelTimes] Judge adjourns contempt case of anti-migrant leader who filmed inside courtroom in gang rape trial and who has alleged political persecution

Hundreds of supporters of British far-right figurehead Tommy Robinson brought a London street to a close on Thursday protesting his contempt of court case, which was later adjourned.

Around 50 counter-demonstrators chanted "Nazi scum, off out streets," as Robinson, who founded and later left the anti-Islam English Defence League (EDL), arrived at court for a hearing.

He is facing a retrial after an appeals judge last month quashed a contempt of court conviction ‐ for a breach of reporting restrictions around a trial ‐ and ordered his release from prison.

Nicholas Hilliard, the judge now assigned the case, on Thursday asked Robinson’s legal team to send more detailed arguments before deciding if, and when, to hold another hearing.

Robinson, who counts former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon as a supporter, won the challenge in August against an initial 13-month prison sentence.

He had been tossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
for contempt of court and breaching a previous suspended sentence, having used social media to live-stream events outside a court in Leeds, northern England.

He told news hounds on Thursday that he believed the latest delay was on purpose "to not give me closure."

"It’s political persecution," he added.

The former soccer hooligan, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, set up the EDL to protest against Islamic demonstrations in his home town of Luton, but it soon attracted a far-right crowd as it became a nationwide movement. He has long campaigned against what he says is crimes committed by Moslem migrants colonists.

His recent legal woes began after he was first convicted of filming inside a court building ‐ an offense ‐ during a gang rape trial in Canterbury, southeast England, in May 2017, a year before the incident in Leeds.

His supporters, many carrying flags and placards reading "Free Tommy," chanted his name and mobbed him as he left court on Thursday, promising to return for his next court date.

"Tommy represents, symbolically, an attack on the fundamental fabric of our society and culture, and our entire system has hidden the mass rapes of girls ‐ he symbolized that unheard voice," said Ralph Masilamani, 51.

Anti-racism protester Weylan Deaett accused Robinson of "trying to whip up division," adding it was "important that good people stand together so we don’t have the tragedy that beset Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
before."

Afghanistan
Abdullah urges regional countries to act against the terror safe havens
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Chief Executive of the National Unity Government of Afghanistan has urged the regional countries to assist Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism and take decisive actions against the safe havens of the terror groups in their soil.

He made the remarks during his speech at the 73rd General Assembly of the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
in New York on Wednesday night.

"All stakeholders need to agree to treat all shades of terrorism as one, shut down the breeding grounds and sanctuaries and to prosecute or repatriate the violators," Abdullah said.

He also added that the response thus far has been sparse and insufficient, emphasizing that "We are working with all countries near and far to bring about better results."

Abdullah also added that "We have asked our neighboring states, especially Pakistain, to help targeted societies ‐ including their own ‐ deal with this menace. We are looking forward to the timely and elective implementation of the recently agreed Afghanistan-Pakistain Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APPAPS)."

This comes as the Afghan and U.S. officials have long been claiming that the myrmidon and terrorist groups, particularly the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
and the notorious Haqqani terrorist network, use their safe havens in Pakistain to plan and coordinate attacks in Afghanistan.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
the Pak officials have repeatedly rejected the claims of the Afghan and U.S. officials.

French imam investigated for incitement over anti-Semitic sermon
[IsraelTimes] Mohammed Tatai cited Islamic text which says that on Judgement Day the Moslems will kill the Jews, predicted demise of Israel
It might also prove interesting to examine the good imam’s connections to see if any have been engaged in more active behaviors...
Prosecutors in La Belle France have launched an investigation for incitement against a senior Moslem holy man from Toulouse
...lies on the banks of the River Garonne, half-way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in La Belle France...
who recited anti-Semitic religious passages and predicted Israel’s destruction.

On Tuesday, the Toulouse Prosecutor’s Office opened the probe against Mohammed Tatai, the imam of the newly inaugurated Grand Mosque of Toulouse and the leader of an interfaith dialogue group, the Sud Ouest daily reported.

In a sermon delivered on December 15, 2017, Tatai recited a Moslem text, called a Hadith, stating that on Judgment Day, the Moslems will kill the Jews.

In June, the La Belle France chapter of the B’nai B’rith group condemned on Twitter the statements by Tatai, who told listeners that the Prophet Muhammad "told us about the final and decisive battle: ’Judgement Day will not come until the Moslems fight the Jews. The Jews will hide behind the stones and the trees, and the stones and the trees will say: Oh Moslem, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him ‐ except for the Gharqad tree, which is one of the trees of the Jews.’"

He also said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was "afraid that Israel would not live longer than 76 years ‐ as is written in the prophecies." Tatai then said that an Israeli journalist, whom he did not name, said the 2016 funeral of Israeli President Shimon Peres was "the funeral of Israel.’"

JTA was not able to verify or locate either of the quotes referenced by Tatai.

Toulouse Prosecutor Dominique Alzeari wrote in a document connected to the investigation that "after verifying the facts connected to the dissemination of the sermon," including with a certified translation of it from Arabic, his office opened an investigation for alleged "public verbal provocation to hatred or violence because of [the victim’s] origins, ethnicity, nationality, race or religion."

The video of the Arabic-language sermon was posted in December on the YouTube channel of the Grand Mosque of Toulouse. The Middle East Media Research Institute translated the video and posted it on its website.

Tatai is the president of the Circle for Civil Dialogue, a nonprofit whose mission is to "facilitate dialogue between citizens on a social-cultural level, educationally and through sports."

On Saturday he led the inauguration ceremony of the city’s new and largest mosque, a $7.5 million building, where he serves as the most prominent imam.

During the inauguration ceremony, which included the release of white doves, Tatai said the mosque will serve "to instill the values of peace" and as a "bulwark against extremism."

In a July interview for the La Dépêche du Midi daily, Tatai said the video "takes what I said out of context." He told the daily that during the sermon, he also said that "we must do everything not to arrive" at a Moslem-Jewish war, but the assertion was not recorded in the video.

Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA gets $118 mln in new funding
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Paleostinian refugee agency UNRWA on Thursday received pledges of $118 million from donor countries to help it overcome a crisis triggered by US funding cuts, Jordan’s foreign minister said.

Germany, Sweden, the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
and Japan were among the countries that came forward with extra funds for UNRWA during a meeting held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Ayman Safadi, who co-hosted the meeting on UNRWA’s funding crisis, told a news conference.

Kuwait and the European Union were among the biggest contributors along with Germany, Ireland and Norway, UNRWA chief Pierre Kraehenbuehl told a news conference. La Belle France said it would contribute next year.

The United States, which was by far the biggest contributor to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), announced in August that it would no longer fund the agency.

Created in 1949, the agency supplies aid to more than three million of the five million registered Paleostinian refugees in Jordan, Leb, Syria and the Paleostinian territories.

Coalition denies issuing arrest warrant against official in Yemen’s Mahra
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The front man for the Arab coalition backing the legitimate government in Yemen, Colonel Turki al-Maliki, denied media reports about issuing an arrest warrant against an official in Yemen’s al-Mahra governorate.

"The incorrect and misleading media reported the issuance of an arrest warrant against former First undersecretary of Mahra governor Ali Salem al-Harizi," he said.

Maliki did not rule out that al-Harizi actions in this regard is aiming for social and political gain.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the coalition front man stressed that the coalition did not give orders or instructed anyone, and that such matters are the responsibility of the official authorities in the Republic of Yemen

represented by the local authority and the security services.

Colonel al-Maliki stressed that the coalition has goals for which the operations "Firmness Storm" and "Restoring Hope" were launched and for the coalition it is the priority in order to liberate the Yemeni lands, the restoration of legitimacy of the government, the restoration of security and stability of the liberated areas, and contribute to development projects in all governorates of Yemen.

‘Major terrorist attack’ foiled in Netherlands, 7 arrested
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Dutch police placed in durance vile
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
seven men on Thursday suspected of plotting to carry out a "major terrorist attack" at a high-profile event using boom belts and an AK-47 assault rifle, the public prosecutor's office said.

"Police arrested seven men on Thursday... suspected of being at a very advanced stage of preparation for a major terrorist attack in the Netherlands, it said in a statement, adding one of the suspects had wanted to kill "many victims".

Prosecutors and Sherlocks were "convinced that a terrorist attack was prevented as a result of the arrests in the cities of Arnhem and Weert which followed a months-long police operation.

Officers had placed a group of people under surveillance, a central figure being a 34-year-old man of Iraqi origin convicted in 2017 of attempting to reach territory controlled by the ISIS group, the statement added.

Those arrested ranged in age from 21 to 34.

The suspects came from Arnhem, Rotterdam and villages close to those two cities. Two others in the group also had convictions related to attempts to travel to Iraq or Syria.

"One of the men from Arnhem wanted to commit an attack with a group at a major event in the Netherlands and kill many victims, according to the Dutch Intelligence Service (AIVD)," the prosecutor's office said.

The target of the planned attack has not yet been identified by police.

The suspects are expected to appear in court in Rotterdam on Friday.
The Daily Mail names the leader as Hardi N, reports that he and two of the group members had been arrested for trying to join ISIS.

Lebanon’s weapons of mass deception
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A founding pillar of Leb, or at least the Lebanese like to promote, is its people’s ability to act as a bridge between East and West and to retain excellent relationships with their Arab surroundings.

This, however, is a thing of the past as successive Lebanese government actions and policies saw Leb drift and finally falls prey to the Iranian sphere of influence thus alienating Leb from its Arab surroundings.

Luckily enough, Leb’s full alienation was stalled when PM Saad Hariri

Yemeni govt confirms its refusal to extend mission of UN team of experts

The government expressed in a statement today, published by Yemen's official news agency, its disappointment with some international mechanisms in dealing with the Yemeni crisis, which has politicized its mandate in a way that complicates the situation in Yemen.

The statement accused the group of prominent regional and international experts of "politicizing the status of rights in Yemen

HRW: Iraqis forcibly disappeared 'by security forces'
[Al Jazeera] Dozens of Iraqi men and boys have been forcibly disappeared by Iraqi security forces since 2014, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW).

In a report published on Thursday, the rights group said 74 mostly Sunni Arab men and four boys had been disappeared between April 2014 and October 2017, often in the context of counterterrorism operations.

Since 2014, pro-government forces have carried out operations to find fighters and supporters of the Islamic State

of Iraq and the Levant group (ISIS, also known as ISIS).

The cases are part of a wider continuing trend according to HRW, which says it continues to receive reports of disappearances across Iraq.

"Families across Iraq whose fathers, husbands, and sons disappeared after Iraqi forces detained them are desperate to find their loved ones," said Lama Fakih, deputy Middle East director at HRW.

"Despite years of searching, and requests to Iraqi authorities, the government has provided no answers about where they are or if they are even still alive."

Iraqi officials did not respond to inquiries from families and HRW about the disappeared.

Kenyan Court Allows Police To Detain Al Shabaab Suspects For 30 Days
[RADIOSHABELLE] The Anti Terrorism Police Unit was on Wednesday permitted by the court to detain two terror suspects for 30 days to conclude investigations.

The two are Abdul Satar and Arfan Juma.

They were tossed in the calaboose

in Elwak, Mandera county, on September 13.

ATPU’s corporal Bernard Ndirangu filed an affidavit through state counsel Kajuju Kirimi seeking to detain the two at Muthaiga cop shoppe.

Ndirangu said Satar had a student ID card for Iqra Youth Foundation Institute at the time of arrest.

He said detectives needed to establish circumstances under which the suspect was given the card.

The suspects were arrested after intelligence indicated they had left Mombasa for Somalia using a private car.

They were traced to the Elwak where they were arrested after they made a stopover to ask for directions into Somalia.

Ndirangu said detectives are pursuing two other suspects Hashim Adow who lives in Kisauni, Mombasa and Salim Aboud.

Adow is an alleged recruitment agent while Aboud was in communication with the two and was allegedly directing them to meet their recruiters for radicalisation and training.

Ndirangu said he required the 30 days to have sufficient time to submit the suspects’ phones to Cyber Crime Unit for analysis.

Satar and Juma did not oppose the application filed before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi of Milimani Law Courts.

Iran removes missile strike video threatening UAE, Saudi Arabia before UN speech
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An Iranian media outlet close to the hardline Revolutionary Guard published a video on Tuesday threatening missile attacks on the capitals of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the United Arab Emirates.

The video, in a tweet by the semi-official Fars news agency that was later deleted, comes as Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blamed Riyadh and Abu Dhabi for the attack in the city of Ahwaz on Saturday, which killed at least 24 people and maimed over 60.

The Fars video showed file footage of previous ballistic missiles launched by the Guard, then a graphic of a sniper rifle scope trained on Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

"The era of the hit-and-run has expired," Khamenei is heard saying in the video, a clip from an April speech by the supreme leader. "A heavy punishment is underway."

Fars did not say why it took the video down. However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
it came just before President Hassan Rouhani was to address the UN General Assembly later in the day.

The Guard, a paramilitary force answerable only to Khamenei, has sole control over Iran’s ballistic missile program.

Martial propaganda films
The Fars video follows a long tradition of martial propaganda films from Tehran.

Iran released a video in 2016 showing Iranian forces triumphing over an American naval fleet after they shot down an airliner, a reference to the USS Vincennes downing an Iran Air flight in 1988, which killed all 290 people aboard.

Saturday’s attack targeted one of many parades in Iran marking the start of the country’s long 1980s war with Iraq, part of a commemoration known as "Sacred Defense Week." Militants disguised as soldiers opened fire as rows of troops marched past officials in Ahwaz.

ISIS claimed Saturday’s attack, initially offering incorrect information about it and later publishing a video of three men it identified as the attackers. The men in the video, however, did not pledge allegiance or otherwise identify themselves as ISIS followers.

Iran’s Intelligence Ministry on Tuesday identified the attackers as Hassan Darvishi, Javad Sari, Ahmad Mansouri, Foad Mansouri and Ayad Mansouri. It said two of them were brothers and another was their cousin.

Darvishi and Ayad Mansouri both appeared in the ISIS video. A third man in the video resembled either Ahmad or Foad Mansouri.

State TV reported late Monday that authorities have detained 22 suspects linked to the group behind the attack and confiscated ammunition and communication equipment.

The state-run IRNA news agency meanwhile dropped the corpse count from the attack to at least 24 killed, noting the initial figure of 25 included one of the attackers. It said the assault maimed at least 68 people.

Iranian rial hits record low of 170,000 against dollar
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Iranian rial hit a record low against the U.S. dollar on the unofficial market on Wednesday, the Tasnim news agency reported, amid a deterioration in the economic situation in Iran and the re-imposition of sanctions by the United States.

The dollar was being offered for as much as 170,000 rials, according to Tasnim. The rial has lost approximately 75 percent of its value since the beginning of 2018.

The currency has been volatile for months because of a weak economy, financial difficulties at local banks and heavy demand for dollars among Iranians who fear the pullout of Washington from a landmark 2015 nuclear deal and renewed US sanctions could shrink Iran’s exports of oil and other goods.

A set of US sanctions targeting Iran’s oil industry is due to take effect in November. Rouhani, in a speech to the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
General Assembly on Tuesday, said the United States had waged "economic war" against Iran by re-imposing unilateral sanctions.

Iran’s parliament sacked the minister of economic affairs and finance and the minister of labor in August, the latest in a continuing shake-up of top economic personnel. In July President Hassan Rouhani replaced the head of the central bank.

Protests linked to the tough economic situation in Iran erupted last December, spreading to more than 80 cities and towns and resulting in 25 deaths.

Egypt arming Sinai tribesmen in fight against Islamic State

’s administration of undermining efforts towards a two-state solution, a day after the US president said he would unveil a new Middle East peace plan.

Abbas called on US President Donald Trump to rescind his decisions recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and cutting aid to the Paleostinians, which he said had undermined the two-state solution to the Middle East conflict.

"This administration has reneged on all previous US commitments, and has undermined the two-state solution, and has revealed its false claims of concern about the humanitarian conditions of the Paleostinian people," the Paleostinian Authority president told the UN General Assembly.

The Paleostinian president said: "I renew my call to President Trump to rescind his decisions and decrees regarding Jerusalem, refugees and settlements."

He stressed that ’biased’ US cannot be the sole Mideast mediator.

Abbas further said that East Jerusalem will always be the capital of the Paleostinian people, calling for the protection of the Paleostinian civilian population.

All three senators sit on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and their personal information was posted shortly after each questioned Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh during Thursday’s hearing.

The staffer noted the change revealed Hatch’s home address and that Thursday was the senator’s wife’s birthday.

The changes were immediately highlighted by a watchdog account that monitors Wikipedia changes made using IP addresses located in the House.
