Terror Networks
The odds were against them, but Benghazi survivor 'Tanto' sez ‘U never, ever quit'
[Miami Herald] FORT WORTH, TEXAS It’s still hard for Kris "Tanto" Paronto to share all of what happened in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012.

Some parts are easier than others. But the 13 hours he and other private military contractors spent fighting, trying to defend the U.S. compound in Libya from a terrorist attack, are etched in his memory forever.

"Parts are still hard for me to talk about," Paronto, a former Army Ranger, told a crowd of around 200 gathered at The Fort Worth Club on Thursday. "Politics had a lot to do with what went on that night.

"The State Department failed us."

That has been an issue of so much debate that a special House committee studied the Islamic militant attack on the U.S. State Department Special Mission Compound in Libya -- and the response from Paronto and others on the CIA annex security team -- that occurred on the 11th anniversary of 9/11.

Four Americans -- including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens -- were killed.

The committee issued an 800-page report spreading blame through several governmental agencies for failing to better respond.

CIA Director: Terrorism a 'Distorted Interpretation of Various Religious Faiths'
[PJ] WASHINGTON -- CIA Director John Brennan said this week that terrorist groups "have been unfortunately successful in attracting individuals to their distorted ideology and distorted interpretation of various religious faiths" largely due to lacking political and economic reforms in many countries.

"There are a lot, a lot of opportunities for these terrorist groups to capitalize on those problems and issues. To me, I'd like to think that, you know, the United States has demonstrated, through the course of time, that we take very seriously the obligation and responsibilities that go along with what I refer to as American exceptionalism," Brennan said at a Center for Strategic and International Studies forum Wednesday marking the 10th anniversary of the Justice Department's National Security Division.

"My definition of American exceptionalism may be different than others," he added. "I don't think that we as people are better than others. I think that we as a country, though, have been tremendously fortunate and blessed to have the resources, the people, we're the world's melting pot. We are, without a doubt, the world's superpower."

Brennan said he wished the U.S. had "that magic wand" to resolve issues like the Syrian war.

"And despite the challenges that we still face there, good on the United States for trying... Unfortunately, there are individuals who opt for violence and militarism as a way to push forward their agendas and to try to achieve their aims, again, which are perversions of religious faiths."

Home Front: Culture Wars
Just 5.7 Percent Of Clinton Foundation Budget Actually Went To Charitable Grants
Just 5.7 percent of the Clinton Foundation’s massive 2014 budget actually went to charitable grants, according to the tax-exempt organization’s IRS filings. The rest went to salaries and employee benefits, fundraising and "other expenses."

The Clinton Foundation spent a hair under $91.3 million in 2014, the organization’s IRS filings show. But less than $5.2 million of that went to charitable grants.

That number pales in comparison to the $34.8 million the foundation spent on salaries, compensation and employee benefits.

Another $50.4 million was marked as "other expenses," while the remaining almost $851K was marked as "professional fundraising expenses."

Despite taking in an additional $30 million in 2014, the Clinton Foundation spent 40 percent less on charitable grants in 2014 than in 2013. Even as it slashed charitable spending, the foundation increased the amount spent on salaries, employee benefits and compensation by $5 million in 2014. The foundation also spent $5 million more "other expenses" in 2014.

Sean Davis at The Federalist notes, "the bulk of the charitable work lauded by the Clinton Foundation’s boosters -- the distribution of drugs to impoverished people in developing countries -- is no longer even performed by the Clinton Foundation. Those activities were spun off in 2010 and are now managed by the Clinton Health Access Initiative, a completely separate non-profit organization."

As first reported by The Daily Caller, the IRS launched an investigation into the Clinton Foundation this past July after 64 House Republicans called the foundation a "lawless ’pay-to-play’ enterprise that has been operating under a cloak of philanthropy for years and should be investigated" in a letter to the IRS, FBI and Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

Police promise to arrest violators of gun ban at Tennessee Valley Fair
[KnoxNews] The ongoing war against the 2nd amendment.

A few years ago there was a brutal murder of a woman runner on a bike trail (a local park). Sometime about that time the legislature passed a law legislating that firearms could be legally carried in all parks across the state of Tennessee by permit holders. Prior to this, municipalities had the option of passing ordinances that would not allow the carrying of firearms in their parks. Consequently, a patchwork of ordinances in municipalities allowed the carrying of firearms in some parks but not in other parks. If you were riding a bike along a trail, one could be carrying legally and then suddenly pass into an illegal carry zone in a contiguous jurisdiction on the same trail.

Mayor Rogero, who is a Democrat and a delegate for Hillary Clinton decided to declare a local park not a park although it has been known as a park for at least a hundred years--in fact it is named Chilhowie Park. As the result it is not legal to carry a firearm in Chilhowie Park during the Tennessee Fair.

Members of the Tennessee Firearms Association decided to test Mayor Rogera "executive order" by bringing suit. However, they were worried that the law suit might not pass the test of standing, i.e. basically that no harm has been done. So they decided to get arrested to ensure standing and be able to get the case to court. This is ongoing.

Illegal aliens Undocumented NC Students Hold Rally Calling for Scholarship Eligibility
[FOX] A group of North Carolina students who are in the United States illegally held a rally this week, arguing they should be included in a taxpayer-funded scholarship program.

The students in Guilford County called for the 'Say Yes To Education' scholarship program to expand the eligibility requirements to include undocumented students.

"Why is it that that it's different with me?" Araceli Garcia-Garnica told WFMY-TV. "Why is it that one simple piece of paper matters to them so much?"

Garcia-Garnica said she has lived in the U.S. since age two as part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. The policy allows her to stay in the country and attend school, but since she does not have a Social Security number, she cannot apply for scholarship money to attend an in-state public college.

Watch the report above and let us know your thoughts on the protesters' demands.

Government
Congress Investigating Obama Admin-Funded Campaign to Unseat Israeli PM
[Free Beacon] Congress on Friday launched a wide-ranging probe into a secret Obama administration-funded campaign to unseat Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to information exclusively obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

The probe comes on the heels of an internal government report determining that the State Department provided hundreds of thousands to an organization that plotted to unseat Netanyahu in the country’s 2015 election.

Obama administration officials were found to have deleted emails from State Department accounts containing information about its relationship with OneVoice, the non-profit group that led the effort.

OneVoice, which was awarded $465,000 in U.S. grants through 2014, has been under congressional investigation since 2015, when it was first accused of funneling some of that money to partisan political groups looking to unseat Netanyahu. This type of behavior by non-profit groups is prohibited under U.S. tax law.

A group of nine leading lawmakers led by Sen. David Perdue (R., Ga.) are now formally petitioning the State Department to come clean about the effort and provide answers about how U.S. taxpayer dollars were permitted to be spent on an organization working against the elected leader of America’s closest Middle East ally, according to a readout of the investigation obtained by the Free Beacon.
"Petitioning the State Department to come clean?" Unfortunately, I believe we're a bit beyond that.
"State Department officials failed to properly vet the OneVoice grant proposal because they failed to properly conduct an analysis of risks in the pre-award phase," the senators wrote in a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry. "Unfortunately, it seems that inconsistency and apathy toward oversight of such grants at the State Department is not new. Our aid dollars should be going toward solving real problems, not contributing to the destabilization of allied governments."

Exiled cleric living in Pa. condemns Turkish crackdown on his network supporters
[SeeBS] PHILADELPHIA -- An Islamic cleric whom Turkey accuses of masterminding July's abortive coup again condemned a Turkish government crackdown on his supporters, saying Thursday that his "heart is aching."

In videotaped remarks to the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, Fethullah Gulen said the Turkish government is using the attempted coup to justify persecuting his followers, who he said are being "subjected to oppression and tyranny, molestation and unlawful acquisition of their private properties."

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blames Gulen for the failed uprising, which left at least 270 people dead, and said he considers him and his followers to be terrorists. This week, Turkey sent the United States a formal request demanding the arrest of Gulen, who lives in self-imposed exile on a compound in the Pocono Mountains.

Activists Want President To Create Sec. Of Global Warming Cabinet Position
[Daily Caller] National security insiders and environmentalists believe the next U.S. president must create a new cabinet position to confront so-called man made global warming.

An environmentalist think tank and former members of the military brass argued in a report Wednesday that future presidential administrations must tackle global warming by crafting a cabinet level position to deal with the effects climate change have on national security.

The document, which also describes global warming as a "significant and direct" threat to the U.S. military, is the brainchild of Washington-based think tank Center for Climate and Security, as well as senior military officials including retired Gen. Anthony Zinni, former commander of the U.S. Central Command, and Admiral Samuel Locklear, the former head of the Pacific Command.

"The complex relationship between sea level rise, storm surge and global readiness and responsiveness must be explored down to the operational level, across the Services and Joint forces, and up to a strategic level as well," the report said.

Seriously, I don't want individuals or business to be able to dump pollutants into the air or water any more than anyone else does. But I also understand that there is this nasty little thing called reality along with common sense. We have the capacity to go solar completely if we really want it. But the "true believers" only want "small" solutions. Small and local solutions are fine to a point. If you want to put solar power or hot water systems on the top of your house that's fine. Just don't expect to run a national economy on these "small solutions". Now I don't ever expect the hydrocarbon part of the economy top go away simply because oil and gas are so damn useful. But I would love the West (US, Canada, Europe, Japan, South Korea' Australia, New Zealand and a few others to get off of hydrocarbon based economies. I don't care if we have electric from solar, wind, hydro, fission, geothermal or fusion (I hope, really hope). That way the day will come when the Saudis and the rest of their ilk can go pound sand

-War on Police-
Gunman ambushes Philadelphia cop
[FOXNEWS] A gunman shot a Philadelphia police sergeant in an ambush late Friday and then went on a shooting rampage that left three people and a University of Pennsylvania police officer wounded and a woman dead before he was killed, authorities said

Philadelphia police commissioner Richard Ross Jr. told a press conference early Saturday that two shooting victims were in critical condition, while the law enforcement officials were in stable condition.

Officials did not disclose the suspect's motive or his identity. However, Fox29 reported that a note written by the suspect expressed hatred of police officers.

The shooting happened at around 11:20 p.m. in West Philadelphia, a few blocks from the University of Pennsylvania campus.

Ross said the violence began when the suspect approached Sgt. Sylvia Young, a 19-year veteran of the force, as she sat in her police car and opened fire. The commissioner said that Young was shot up to eight times and some of the shots were deflected by her bulletproof vest.

"It is absolutely amazing that she is here [alive]," Ross said, adding that the suspect did not say anything before he opened fire.

Officials said the suspect fled, then shot into a nearby bar. Ross said two people were injured there--a bar security guard who was shot in the left leg and a woman who the suspect used as a human shield before shooting her in the leg.

As police gave chase, Ross said the suspect fled again and shot into a nearby car, striking a man and woman in the chest. Police say the woman died and the man was in critical condition.

At that point, Ross said the suspect was chased into an alley by two police officers and 56-year-old Eddie Miller, a retired cop who is part of the University of Pennsylvania police force. Miller was wounded.

The gunman was shot and killed in the alley.

Europe
Belgian Police Arrest Two in Anti-Terror Raids, More Jungle Illegals Evacuated in Paris
[AnNahar] Belgian authorities on Friday detained two people for questioning following anti-terror raids in the capital Brussels and southeastern Belgium, the federal prosecutor's office said.

Police searched two homes in the Haren and Schaarbeek districts of Brussels and another in the city of Liege in the French-speaking Wallonia region, the office said in a statement.

"Two persons were arrested and will be interrogated by the investigators," it said, adding a judge will decide later whether or not to detain the pair further.

A judge specializing in terrorism cases ordered the raids "in connection with an ongoing federal investigation into the activities of a terrorist group," the statement said without elaborating.

However, the Belgian television station RTBF said the two arrested are a 28-year-old man and his female companion.
Wife or hussy?
The man has been active in a chat group on the encrypted Telegram app where he "apparently indicated he was preparing to carry out an attack," RTBF reported without naming its sources.

The suspect had in the past been linked to criminal but not terrorist activities, it added.
Jihadis either grew uo educated in nice, middle class families, or they were small time criminals looking for holy mistification for what they were going to do anyway.
The authorities were now trying to determine if there are links between the recently arrested users of Telegram in France and the man detained in Belgium on Friday, RTBF reported.
He had to have been talking to someone. Since the locations are in French-speaking communes, it probably is the same French ISIS man all the rest were coached by.

[AnNahar] Police in Paris on Friday began evacuating a tent camp where some 1,500 migrants were living in unsanitary conditions, the latest operation to dismantle such camps sprouting up around the French capital. Police moved in at dawn to remove the migrants, mainly from Sudan, Eritrea and Afghanistan, who were sleeping in tents and on mattresses in the camp in northern Paris.

France has received only a tiny proportion of the million-plus migrants who have crossed into Europe in the last 18 months, with many refugees seeing it mainly as a transit country to other destinations.

Friday's operation was the latest of more than 20 such evacuations over the past year. Housing Minister Emmanuelle Cosse, who was at the scene, said around 1,500 people were at the camp, which was earlier evacuated on August 17, when 700 people were removed.

"There are a lot of families with children, more than usual. They will obviously be looked after," Cosse told AFP.

On July 22, around 2,500 migrants were evacuated from another camp in northern Paris in the largest operation of its kind in the city.

Many of those who land in Paris are bound for the port of Calais on the Channel coast, where they hope to stow away on a truck crossing to Britain. The squalid camp of tents and makeshift shelters in Calais, known as The Jungle, is home to some 7,000 migrants but charities say the number might be as high as 10,000 after an influx this summer.

#3  Why Britain?

Perhaps in part because of Britain's strong presence in Sudan, Eritrea and Afghanistan back in the day ... ? Anybody who lay across or along side lines of communication needed by British East India Company and/or British Army and Navy received more or less British attention. Memories are long. The Fraud's first public act was to insult Great Britain ... i.e., birthing or not, he considered himself a champion of Kenya against Great Britain ... and other things, but that specific in amongst the rest. Vengeance drives the typical Hollywood script, but in life it is suicidal.

Nineteen Refugees Diagnosed With Active Tuberculosis in Michigan
[Breitbart] Nineteen refugees were diagnosed with active tuberculosis (TB) in Michigan between 2011 and 2016, according to data provided to Breitbart News by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and county government officials in Oakland County, Michigan.

Eighteen of these nineteen refugees were diagnosed with active TB between 2011 and 2015, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

One of these nineteen refugees, an Iraqi who arrived in the United States in June 2015 with latent TB infection, was diagnosed with active TB in March 2016, according to the Oakland County Department of Health and Human Services.

Five of the nineteen refugees were diagnosed with active TB at the time of their initial domestic medical screening, which usually takes place within 90 days of arrival. Fourteen were diagnosed subsequent to their initial domestic screening, but within five years of their arrival.

Former Hillary Campaign Manager Admits to 2008 Birther Link
[GP] On Friday, after Donald Trump's wildly anticipated 'Birther' press conference, Hillary Clinton's 2008 campaign manager admitted the birther rumor was started inside the Hillary Clinton campaign.
Breitbart.com reported:

Patti Solis Doyle, who was Hillary Clinton's campaign manager in 2008 until the Iowa caucuses, admitted on Friday that a Clinton campaign staffer had, in fact, circulated the Birther conspiracy theory that Barack Obama was born outside the U.S. and therefore potentially ineligible to serve in the presidency.

Doyle made the admission on Twitter, as she responded to former George W. Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer.

No, @AriFleischer, it is not. The one rogue staffer who sent an email was fired pretty damn quick.

This is a lie. https://t.co/Js93dkSVdW

-- Mo Elleithee (@MoElleithee) September 16, 2016

Doyle appeared about an hour later on CNN with Wolf Blitzer to address the issue once again. She denied that Hillary Clinton had started the Birther theory -- then admitted that someone in the Clinton campaign had, in fact, been involved. Here is part their exchange:

Blitzer: Someone supporting Hillary Clinton was trying to promote this so-called Birther issue? What happened?

U.S.-Backed, 'Moderate' Free Syrian Army Threatens To Kill U.S. SF (video)
[PJ] Disturbing video emerged today of U.S.-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebels threatening to kill arriving U.S. special operations forces in the town of Al-Rai near Aleppo. The city was just seized weeks ago from the Islamic State after a push by Turkish troops aided by U.S. air power.

Here is some video from the incident from BBC producer Riam Dalati:

-War on Police-
Black Dallas Cop Sues BLM and Soros Over Race War
Discovery should prove interesting. D'you suppose any nefarious parties have hacked Mr. Soros' organizations yet?
The head of a Dallas police organization is suing a collection of Black Lives Matter figureheads and other prominent individuals for allegedly inciting racial violence against American police officers.

Dallas Police Department Sergeant Demetrick Pennie, President of the Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation, filed an amended federal complaint September 16 against more than a dozen defendant institutions and individuals to build a class action case on behalf of "police officers and other law enforcement persons of all races and ethnicities including but not limited to Jews, Christians and Caucasians" for "inciting" race riots and related violence.

The suit hopes to produce damages and an injunction placed against alleged threats of racially-motived violence going forward.

The defendants represent a who’s who of public figures in both racial and general political matters. Apart from founding members and public faces related to Black Lives Matter, Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam; Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network; Malik Zulu Shabazz and the New Black Panthers; George Soros; President Barack Obama; former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder; and Democrat Nominee Hillary Clinton are all included in the suit.

The 66-page federal complaint alleges that each defendant individual and organization "repeatedly incited their supporters and others to engage in threats and attacks" against police officers around the nation, culminating in the July killings of five Dallas area officers with nine others wounded at a Black Lives Matter gathering. The complaint singles out George Soros as "the financier of the BLM Defendants and similar organizations with the goal of inciting a race war" and advocating violence against whites and Jews.

Defendants Obama and Clinton are blamed for repeatedly endorsing behaviors carried out and surrounding Black Lives Matter.

Sgt. Pennie is being represented by Larry Klayman of FreedomWatch. Klayman previously founded the conservative legal watchdog Judicial Watch.

"Sergeant Pennie and I feel duty-bound to put ourselves forward to seek an end to the incitement of violence against law enforcement which has already resulted in the death of five police officers in Dallas and the wounding of seven more, just in Texas alone," Klayman said in a release.

Sgt. Pennie told Breitbart Texas that he felt he had a duty to stand for officers in Texas and across the nation.

"This action was brought to stop the violence and killings of law enforcement officers in Dallas and throughout the nation."

The plaintiffs hope to see an award in excess of $500 million, according to the complaint.

The federal lawsuit was originally filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
Note that Black officers have been a target of the BLM (Baltimore, Baton Rouge) as much as white officers (Dallas). It's a shame black police officers have to do this to members of their own race who finally have been empowered, who then go against what Martin Luther King stood for only to embrace corruption and lawlessness. It is fitting what this black police officer is doing.

Russian Air Force conducts first ceasefire airstrikes in northern Homs
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Russian Air Force launched their first Arclight airstrikes over the northern countyside of the Home Governorate on Friday night, targeting the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham
...formerly al-Nusra, the current false nose and mustache of al-Qaeda in the Levant...
(formerly Nusra Front) controlled villages of Teit Ma'leh and al-Rastan.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Russian Air Force carried out three Arclight airstrikes over the jihadist controlled village of Teir Ma'lah, hitting Jabhat Fateh al-Sham hideouts near the Syrian Arab Army's (SAA) front-lines.

In al-Rastan, the Russian Air Force attacked a Jabhat Fateh al-Sham gathering near the Rastan Lake, killing several members of this jihadist group in the process.

For the first time since the commencement of the ceasefire agreement, the Russian Air Force launched Arclight airstrikes over Aleppo and Homs; these attacks were meant to punish the rebel forces refusing to partake in the ceasefire.

Greenfield:On not letting the media set the agenda
Daniel Greenfield

With Hillary collapsing, both in real life and the polls, the media frantically tried to steer the ship of state around. The topic they picked was a tired one. Obama's birthplace.

The agenda was obvious. Blunt any gains Trump was making with black voters and change the national focus from Hillary's lies.

We often talk about not letting the media set the agenda. And that's what the Trump campaign tried to do. First it refused to discuss the issue because it was a distraction from the economy and the War on Terror. The media spun that as "Trump refuses to etc...". A release pinning the blame for the story on Team Clinton also came under fire from the media. Eventually the media got what it wanted.

Or not quite what it wanted, which was to drag out the story indefinitely, but they did change the conversation.

And the past few days have been an object lesson in how hard it is to avoid letting the media set the agenda. It's easy to say it, but when the election is seen through the lens of the media, and the media coordinates an attack, refusing to play is difficult.

Perhaps the best available option is not forcibly change the conversation. It's the media's own favorite trick and it ought to be used more often against them.

Iraq
Shiite militias can expel Turkish forces from Iraq ‘by force’, says Iraqi MP
[RUDAW.NET] An Iraqi MP has asked Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to "call on The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
officially yet once again to withdraw its forces from Iraq before the start of the operation to liberate djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
," warning that the Shiite militia Hashd al-Shaabi has the right to expel Turkish forces from Iraq "by force."
Right. That'll work.
"Turkish forces will not be safe from attacks by resistance groups and Hashd al-Shaabi who have all the rights to expel them by force," Firdous al-Awadi, a member of the State of Law coalition led by former Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, said in a statement on Friday.

The Turkish government will be considered responsible for any attacks on its forces present in Iraq "outside of the will of the Iraqi government," she added.

Awadi said Turkey’s agenda in Nineveh province serves the interests of just one party that is calling for the division of the province into several parts and then linking some of those parts to the Kurdistan Region. She did not however make a clear reference to a specific party.

She also accused "al Nujaifis" of serving the interests of Turkey in northern Iraq, in reference to former Iraqi parliament speaker Osama Nujaifi and former Ninevah governor Athel al-Nujaifi.

The former Nineveh governor has called for Turkey to play a role in the military operation to liberate Mosul, citing Turkey’s recent success in Jarablus. "The people of Mosul want to see the same thing in their city," al-Nujaifi told Turkey’s Anadolu Agency on September 9.

"If there is no Turkish military role, Turkey should at least play an active political role in resolving the region’s current dilemmas," he said, adding that he believed Turkey’s role would serve to counterbalance Iran’s influence in Iraq.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
has said that his country is ready to participate in the Mosul offensive after the army’s success in its Euphrates Shield operation in northern Syria.

"The solution to the Mosul problem passes through lending an ear to Turkey’s rational perspective and suggestions," Erdogan said, speaking after a bombing in Van earlier this week. "Our hope is that the central government in Iraq will see this."

In his interview with Anadolu Agency, al-Nujaifi also called for the creation of a "federal region" in Nineveh province, breaking it into several provinces.

Turkish armed forces are in Bashiqa, northern Iraq providing training for Peshmerga and Iraqi Sunni forces. Last December, Turkey boosted its troop numbers at the camp sparking a diplomatic confrontation with Baghdad who asserted that the Turkish troops were in the country without Baghdad’s permission or knowledge. Turkey maintained that the troops were necessary to protect their training mission at the camp.

Third full day of Syrian ceasefire ends with ‘dramatic’ increase in violence
[RUDAW.NET] The third full day of the Syrian ceasefire ended with a "dramatic" escalation in violence, the "massacre" of 23 civilians in one set of Arclight airstrikes, and three more civilian deaths across the country, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Unidentified warplanes targeted the city of al-Mayadin in eastern Syria. Twenty-three non-combatants were killed, including nine children and two women, the Observatory reported, noting that the number of casualties was expected to rise as there were about 20 injured, some of them critically.

Al-Mayadin is under Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) control. ISIS and the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front are not a part of the ceasefire.

The Observatory also reported a child died from injuries sustained by sniper fire in government-held Aleppo, another person was killed by a regime sniper in rebel-held Aleppo. A second child was killed by rocket fire in a rural area south of Damascus.

One Arclight airstrike hit a school displaced families were sheltering in, according to the Observatory.

On Thursday, the Observatory said it documented "violations in several Syrian areas." The organization reported shelling and sniper fire in both rebel and government-held areas as well as Arclight airstrikes northwest of Aleppo and in the Hama countryside.

Speaking at the daily press briefing in Washington on Thursday, the Department of State’s Deputy Spokesperson Mark Toner acknowledged ceasefire violations had occurred but noted, "levels of violence are still far below what we had been seeing prior to September 12" when the ceasefire came into force.

"Both the United States and Russia have to do all we can do to further pressure or influence the respective parties to this cessation of hostility to reduce these incidents. But we still believe that, by and large, the cessation of hostilities is holding, it’s not perfect. We expected a somewhat uneven start to this, but from what we’ve seen so far, and what I said yesterday is it’s worth continuing."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Four terror attacks on Friday, three attackers killed, plus a bonus
It's Friday, and Muslim boys (of both sexes) must be boys.
[IsraelTimes] Fourth attack of the day: An Israeli soldier was lightly wounded in a stabbing attack at a checkpoint in the West Bank city of Hebron on Friday, according to officials.

The assailant was shot and killed by forces at the Gilbert checkpoint near the Tel Rumeida neighborhood of the city, the army said.

The 19-year-old soldier had his face slashed in the attack, the Magen David Adom ambulance service said. He received treatment on the scene from both MDA paramedics and an army medical unit, before he was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem for further care, according to the ambulance service.

This was the fourth terror-related incident of the day, and the second in the Hebron area.
Hebron is Hamas Central in the West Bank, so it is safe to assume the two attackers are either members of Hamas or have friends and relations who are.
First attack of the day:
Earlier on Friday, a Jordanian national was shot and killed as he attempted to stab a Border Police officer at the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem.
According to the linked article, the formerly living gentleman had crossed over from Jordan the previous day for reasons unknown.
Second attack of the day:
Less than an hour later, a soldier shot and killed a Palestinian man and seriously wounded a Palestinian woman who allegedly carried out a car-ramming attack outside the Kiryat Arba settlement next to Hebron.
According to another linked article, the expired couple were related to a Palestinian lady who did the same thing there in June.
Third attack:
On Friday afternoon, a bus driver was also lightly wounded when unidentified perpetrators threw rocks and glass bottles full of paint at his vehicle on the highway between Jerusalem and the Ma’ale Adumim settlement.
Bonus:
Late Thursday night in Hebron, IDF soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian suspect, Muhammad Ahmad Abed al-Fattah al-Sarrahin, who fled as they attempted to arrest him.

“During an arrest operation in Beit Ula, security forces apprehended one suspect while another attempted to flee the building,” an Israeli army spokeswoman told AFP. “During the pursuit a force opened fire, resulting in the suspect’s death.”

The Hebron area, where Palestinians, Israeli settlers and soldiers live in close proximity, has been a frequent scene of clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinians, as well as terror attacks by Palestinian assailants.

Arabia
One in three Saudi air raids on Yemen hit civilian sites
More than one-third of all Saudi-led air raids on Yemen have hit civilian sites, such as school buildings, hospitals, markets, mosques and economic infrastructure, according to the most comprehensive survey of the conflict. The findings, revealed by the Guardian on Friday, contrast with claims by the Saudi government, backed by its US and British allies, that Riyadh is seeking to minimise civilian casualties.
The Guardian, of course, doesn't understand that in an Islamic war there are no "civilian casualties"...
The survey, conducted by the Yemen Data Project, a group of academics, human rights organisers and activists, will add to mounting pressure in the UK and the US on the Saudi-led coalition, which is facing accusations of breaching international humanitarian law.
I doubt seriously it will add pressure of any kind. The Saudis see what is happening in Yemen as a substantial threat to their own security, and they'll fight with the gloves off. And notice that, of course, the pressure can only go one way -- how about a little pressure on the Yemeni rebels, Guardian?
It will refocus attention on UK arms sales to Saudi Arabia, worth more than £3.3bn since the air campaign began, and the role of British military personnel attached to the Saudi command and control centre, from which air operations are being mounted. Two British parliamentary committees have called for the suspension of such sales until a credible and independent inquiry has been conducted.
Call out Carla del Ponte!
Saudi Arabia disputed the Yemen Data Project figures, describing them as “vastly exaggerated”, and challenged the accuracy of the methodology, saying somewhere such as a school building might have been a school a year ago, but was now being used by rebel fighters.
Fair point. How was the school counted by the 'independent' counters?
The independent and non-partisan survey, based on open-source data, including research on the ground, records more than 8,600 air attacks between March 2015, when the Saudi-led campaign began, and the end of August this year. Of these, 3,577 were listed as having hit military sites and 3,158 struck non-military sites.

This Week in Guns: September 17th, 2016

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

The headline that Missouri legalized the unlicensed carry of firearms is misleading. What the veto override did was to restore the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms to the residents of Missouri. Should have been done a long time ago.

Yet for every piece of good news in the realm of firearms, several more pieces of bad news are coming. Two municipal entities -- New Orleans, Louisiana and Palm Springs, California -- have imposed new restrictions on the possession of firearms. The Palm Springs ordinance requires firearms be locked away, while New Orleans passed a law requiring all 80 percent firearms receivers be marked and registered with the city.

The New Orleans law basically is the prelude of firearms confiscation, maybe not in one swoop, but rather a case by case instance of legalized theft of personal property under the color of law.

California? Well, they are a lost cause for basic civil liberties, so it is no surprise the municipal entity went this route.

Matt Vanderboegh has been trying to protect the Threeper (III) brand since his father's passing. The history between Mike Vanderboegh and several others is twisted and Byzantine, with one instance so egregious a number of trainers and others were ripped off, so it is said, in an effort to market products emblazoned with the III symbol.

In the most recent matter, a Georgia state militia group protesting mosque construction in their state has been using the III brand in their efforts. Those efforts came to the notice of Matt, when a number of others pointed out some very unsavory things about the group.

Much of the information about this group, freely available over the internet, even traces back to the Bundy Ranch incident, and appears to show that the entire Bundy Ranch episode was one giant operation with the government playing both sides.

There is a ton of information, so much so that it could take several articles just to report it all.

I will begin next week.

#1  Thanks, bad.

One day, Missouri shall be as civilized as Kansas.

I kid, I kid, olde rivalry, just about everyone I have met in Mighty MO is/was great people.

I was on a paddle boat in MO way back when I was a tadpole. Up past my bedtime no doubt. Sitting next to an olde fellow who had a grandfatherly quality about him, got to talking. He said, "I was on the Wasp (or maybe Hornet, I was young and they were just bugs at the time)."

I said, "How big a boat was that?"

He said, "That was a Ship, boy."

Explosion in Benghazi’s Kish square as pro-LNA demonstrators call for Kobler and Serraj to be sacked
[Libya Herald] A home-made bomb left next to an ambulance in Benghazi’s Kish Square went kaboom! this afternoon while pro-LNA demonstrations were taken place. Two people were slightly injured, an interior security services official told the Libya Herald.

Demonstrating against the Libyan Political Agreement, the UN, the US and Europe, as well as Faiez Serraj and Ibrahim Jadhran, and supporting Khalifa Hafter and the Libyan National Army (LNA), over a thousand people took part in the demonstration after Friday prayers today, following calls throughout the week from local political activists. Much of the protestors’ anger was directed against UN Special Envoy Martin Kobler and the US and Europe which during the week condemned the LNA’s takeover of the eastern oil terminals.

After the kaboom, when the demonstrators refused to leave the square, the Thinni administration’s interior minister Mohammed al-Madani al-Fakhri and the head of Benghazi police Colonel Salah Hwaidi also joined them, apparently in an act of solidarity.

Calls for both Serraj and Kobler to be sacked were heard as well at similar demonstrations in Marj, Beida and Tobruk as well as in Zintan and Rajban in the west of the country. Around a dozen people also waved anti-Kobler posters in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
’s Algeria Square. In Sebha, the numbers were slightly larger. In Tobruk, the protestors also thanked Egypt for its support and HoR president Ageela Saleh for his opposition to the Presidency Council.

Earlier in the day, Egyptian foreign minister Sameh Shukri expressed his country’s full support for the LNA’s takeover last Sunday of the eastern oil terminals so as "to maintain security and stability in Libya and to secure Libyan oil wealth".

Meanwhile in Benghazi, a house near Benina airport was damaged when it was hit by mortar fire. No one was hurt as the building was empty at the time.

Iraq
Iraqi forces destroy ISIS explosives facility in Saladin
[ARA News] DUHOK – The Iraqi air force bombed an ISIS explosives facility in the Saladin province on Friday, officials said.

Iraqi warplanes launched several airstrikes on headquarters of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the Hawija district in the Saladin province, bombing a crucial explosives facility held by the radical group.

“ISIS headquarters in Hawija were hit by four airstrikes on Friday evening. A key bomb making facility was destroyed, and dozens of ISIS militants were killed,” Iraqi army official Khalid Haddad told ARA News.

“The strikes were carried out by the Iraqi air force after receiving information from reliable sources on the location of the facility and other ISIS headquarters inside Hawija district,” the official reported.

The Iraqi forces have been coordinating the anti-ISIS operations with the US-led coalition.

“A high level of coordination and cooperation with the coalition forces has enabled the Iraqi army to direct painful blows to ISIS in the past few weeks,” media activist Haidar al-Khalidi told ARA News in Saladin.

“Explosives-making facilities, where bombs are being made, are considered a main source of power for ISIS. So, the destruction of the Hawija explosives facility could have serious consequences for the terrorist group and undermine its ability to continue its operations in Saladin province,” al-Khalidi said.

MQM's Khawaja Izhar is called chief of target killers: SSP Rao Anwar
[DAWN] SSP Malir Rao Anwar, talking to media persons after the arrest of MQM's Khawaja Izharul Hassan, referred to the tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
MQM leader as the "chief of hit men".

"We had intelligence reports of his involvement in unrest. There was a spike in murders in New Bloody Karachi

, and he is also called the chief of hit mans," alleged Anwar.

The SSP also clarified that permission from the Speaker of the Sindh Assembly is not needed, and the speaker only needs to be informed if law enforcement agencies arrest a politician.

"We need to inform in writing the speaker of the national or provincial assemblies after the arrest is made. Arrests are made according to law."

The senior police official reiterated that arresting an individual is part of the procedure, and the individual can only be released through a court order.

"The leaders of the political party were picked up by Rangers some weeks back, and no one said a word," lamented the SSP.

He added that Hassan has pending FIRs against him, and there should be no finger pointing if a police official acts in line with his duty.

"I have adopted a legal procedure for his arrest," said the officer.

Anwar also termed his suspension from duty as a wrongful act.

"I was placed under suspension in haste and it was wrong to do so," said Rao Anwar.

Anwar warned that there would be "side effects" of his suspension.

When asked by the media if he was under orders from security agencies, Anwar denied the allegation and said he was not instructed to make the arrest by any security agency.

The SSP said MQM leaders had raised slogans against Pakistain and had used abusive language against the armed forces.

He believed that it was a wrong to say that the MQM leaders in Pakistain had "disconnected" with their founder, the increasingly enormousAltaf Hussain

Jaysh Al-Fateh attacks key southern Aleppo hill

Following the rocket bombardment, the jihadist rebels of Jaish al-Fateh attempted to fracture the Syrian Arab Army's first-line of defense at Tal Umm al-Qara; however, this would ultimately fail

According to a military source in southern Aleppo, the Syrian Armed Forces have secured Tal Umm al-Qara and its surrounding sites after the jihadist rebels launched a surprise attack.

Understanding Constitutionality On Constitution Day
...
"Statute and judicial precedence redefine constitutionality, whether we like it or not. But that verity does not obviate the need to be well versed on what the founders envisioned for this land of liberty, as codified in our Constitution. If we are to preserve our land of liberty, a return to our founding principles is requisite. That's why September 17th was declared Constitution Day, and September 17-23 of each year was designated Constitution Week, by joint Congressional Resolution, and the signature of then President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953. September 17, 1787 marks the historic signing of the Constitution of the United States of America, which was then ratified and put into effect two years later."

Arabia
Dozens of Houthi militia die on Soddy border
[Al Arabiya] Ten of Houthi militias and forces loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh are being killed in attempting to breach the Saudi-Yemeni border, Saudi Defense Minister Adviser Maj. Gen. Ahmed Asiri told Al Arabiya’s sister channel Al Hadath.

“Attempts by the militias to infiltrate the borders of Saudi Arabia have not yet stopped,” he said. “The Saudi border will never be part of any settlement in Yemen,” he added.

Assiri’s comments come after footage and images of parade held by women loyal to the Houthi movement circulated on social media, showing children and infants alongside women carrying rifles and heavy artillery as they paraded in trucks declaring support to the militias.

Britain
UK judge condemns British troops over 2003 death of Iraqi teen
[RUDAW.NET] A British judge investigating UK troops’ involvement in civilian deaths during the war in Iraq has condemned four soldiers who forced an Iraqi boy into a canal and let him drown. The British Ministry of Defence has issued an apology.

Ahmad Jabbar Kareem Ali was 15 years old when he was detained by British troops on suspicion of looting in Basra in May 2003.

He was "aggressively manhandled and assaulted" on his arrest, former high court judge Sir George Newman found.

After his arrest, Ahmad was taken by the British soldiers to a canal and forced to enter the water "at gunpoint" along with three other suspected looters, according to testimony from Ayad Salim Hanoon, one of the others detained.

Ahmad drowned in the canal while the soldiers watched without coming to his aid after he became distressed.

"His death ensued because he was forced by the soldiers to enter the canal, where, in the presence of the soldiers, he was seen to be in difficulty, and to go under water," reads Newman’s report who said that forcing the teenager into the water was unlawful and he should have been rescued when it became clear he was drowning.

The four soldiers were tried and acquitted on manslaughter charges in 2006. They were not named in Justice Newman’s report.

"This was a grave incident for which we are extremely sorry," said a Ministry of Defence spokesperson. "We are committed to investigating allegations of wrongdoing by UK forces and will use Sir George’s findings to learn lessons to help ensure nothing like this happens again."

Justice Newman’s report is part of the Iraq Fatality Investigations (IFI) looking into accusations of British troop involvement in Iraqi deaths during the war.

Witnesses testifying before the IFI are able to give evidence anonymously and cannot be prosecuted or sued as a result of the evidence they give.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
John Boehner Now Sits on the Board of a Major Tobacco Company
[Fortune] In 1995, the former House speaker was caught passing out checks from tobacco lobbyists to his fellow congressmen--something he later said he regretted. And when Boehner resigned late last year, OpenSecrets data showed he took more money from the tobacco industry than any other lawmaker during his 26 years in Congress. Not to mention Boehner smokes so much that when he left the Capitol, his office was fumigated to get rid of the smell, according to CNN Money.

So it’s no surprise that Boehner now sits on the board of Reynolds American RAI -0.63% , the second biggest tobacco company in the country. He will serve on the corporate governance, nominating and sustainability committee, likely helping his colleagues shape how Washington regulates the struggling U.S. tobacco sector, CNN reports.
More at link including a picture of the former Speaker with a 'grette in his mouth. Sorry to any of you who may be smokers, but at my age I've seen so many people get sick and die from cigarettes that I can't help it. I understand that if you get addicted at a young age it's damn near impossible to quit. But for people who produce and market addictive carcinogens I believe a special place in hell is reserved.

Brazil: Eight suspects accused of promoting terrorism
[AA.TR] Eight suspects in Brazil were changed Friday with promoting terrorism, according to authorities.

Officials said the suspects also tried to recruit others to carry out attacks on the eve of the Olympic Games of Rio de Janerio last month.

The suspects were detained in July as part of a police operation that found the existence of a cell that had sworn loyalty to ISIS.

Prosecutor Rafael Brum said during a news conference that intercepted conversations reveled the group "specifically expressed the idea they had of leaving the virtual plane and start acting in practice".

Brum said that in the conversations, which also involved two minors, the suspects discussed "the possibility of seizing the moment of the Olympic Games to conduct a terrorist act, including dialogues on how to make homemade bombs".

Because no evidence of specific plans or a strong link to ISIS was found, he said, the suspects would be charged with "promoting a terrorist organization" and conspiracy.

Some of the accused could also be charged with encouraging minors to commit crimes and for "recruiting for a terrorist organization".

Brazilian authorities began monitoring the group’s telephone calls, social media activity and smartphones conversations, following a tip from the FBI.

Syrian Army enters Islamist-held Jobar
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continued their counter-offensive in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus on Friday, capturing more sites from the Salafist tough guys of Faylaq al-Rahman.

Launching their assault from three different axes, the Syrian Arab Army's 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard, backed by the Paleostine Liberation Army (PLA) and National Defense Forces (NDF), managed to capture three important buildings near the Jobar Electrical Company after an intense battle with the Salafist tough guys.

In addition to their advance at the Jobar Electrical Company, the Syrian Armed Forces also captured a number of points around the Mail Depot and Tayba Mosque on Friday night.

This latest advance by the Syrian Armed Forces comes just hours after the Salafist tough guys launched a surprise attack inside of Jobar.

Chinese SSMs fail firing tests demo in Indonesia
Via Richard Fernandez's (Wretchard) Facebook page
[Janes] The Indonesian Navy's (Tentara Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Laut, or TNI-AL's) attempt to successfully launch Chinese-made C-705 anti-ship missiles from two indigenously built attack craft during a major naval exercise has failed, sources from within the service informed IHS Jane's on 15 September.

The missiles, which were deployed onboard the KCR-40-class missile attack craft KRI Clurit (641) and KRI Kujang (642), each failed at different stages of their launches on 14 September.

Clurit and Kujang each fired a single C-705 missile during Exercise 'Armada Jaya' 2016 which was conducted in the Java Sea.

Both attempts were made in full view of Indonesian President Joko Widodo who was there to witness the exercise from onboard the landing platform dock ship KRI Banjarmasin (592). Accompanying him was TNI-AL chief Admiral Ade Supandi, and Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) chief General Gatot Nurmantyo.

According to TNI-AL sources, the first C-705 deployed on Clurit failed to launch upon command, but fired unexpectedly about five minutes later after the ship's crew failed to observe a misfire procedure.

The missile failed to hit its designated target for the exercise, the recently decommissioned Tisza-class auxiliary support ship, Karimata (960). The second C-705 missile, which was fired from Kujang , failed during mid-flight, and subsequently also failed to hit the same target.

Besides Clurit and Kujang , 'Armada Jaya' also involves the participation of about 7,000 TNI personnel and 39 naval vessels including a Cakra Type 209/1300-class diesel-electric submarine (SSK).

Other TNI-AL weapons that will be tested during the exercise, that runs until the end of September 2016, include the C-802 anti-ship missile that has also been acquired from China.

US Special Forces join Turkish troops in Cobanbey
US Special Operation forces are accompanying Turkish troops and Free Syrian Army fighters along the Turkish border near Jarabulus and Cobanbey in Syria, the Pentagon told Anadolu Agency on Friday.

The move came “at the request of the government of Turkey”, according to agency spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis.

“U.S. personnel operating with Turkish forces and Syrian opposition forces will provide the same train, advise and assist support they have been providing to other local partners in Syria fighting ISIL,” Davis wrote in an email using an alternative name for Daesh.

The new development comes as the Free Syrian Army, backed by Turkish artillery earlier in the day, began to move toward Daesh’s stronghold al-Bab, nearly 30 kilometers (20 miles) south of Cobanbey as a part of Operation Euphrates Shield.

Operation Euphrates Shield was launched Aug. 24 by Turkey and aims at improving security, supporting coalition forces and eliminating the terror threat along Turkey’s border using Free Syrian Army fighters backed by Turkish armor, artillery and jets.

The Syrian town of Cobanbey and Jarabulus city were recently cleared of Daesh terrorists as part of the operation.

Davis said the U.S. would continue to support the counter-Daesh fight in northern Syria because “access to the Syria Turkey border region is strategically important to ISIL's operations in Syria and Iraq as well as the group's attempts to export terror to Turkey, the wider region, Europe and the United States.”

“Denying ISIL access to this critical border cuts off critical supply routes in and out of Iraq and Syria and further isolates ISIL's so-called 'capital' in Raqqa,” he added.

India-Pakistan
India willing to share Mumbai attack evidence with Pakistan
[DAWN] The Foreign Office on Friday said India has expressed its readiness to share material evidence regarding the Mumbai attacks with Pakistain.

"In reply to the Foreign Secretary of Pakistain’s letter, dated September 8, 2015, the Indian Foreign Secretary, in his letter of September 6, 2016, has expressed India’s readiness to share the material evidence, which Pakistain had been seeking for quite some time for the Mumbai trial," said Nafees Zakaria, spokesperson for the Foreign Office.

The spokesperson added that the material evidence and cross examination of prosecution witnesses is needed to proceed further with the trial in Pakistain as per the law of the land.

"Legal aspects and modalities of the proposal contained in the Indian Foreign Secretary’s letter are current being examined by our legal experts," elaborated Zakaria.

Earlier in August, the arrest of an alleged financier of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks has been termed a breakthrough in the otherwise stalled case, but it may delay the conclusion of the trial pending in an anti-terrorism court (ATC) since 2009.

In January, Islamabad asked the Indian government to send the 24 witnesses to Pakistain to testify against the seven suspects, including Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi
...an asset of the Pak govt and a big turban in Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is actually a redundant statement. Zak was the criminal mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai attack. Despite what India's provided there is not enough evidence in this world for a Pak court to convict him or even to keep him in the calaboose for very long...
, the alleged criminal mastermind of the attacks.

Lakhvi and the other suspects -- Abdul Wajid, Mazhar Iqbal, Hammad Amin Sadiq, Shahid Jameel Riaz, Jamil Ahmed and Younus Anjum -- are being tried by the ATC in Islamabad.

The prosecution completed the testimony of the 68 Pak witnesses earlier this year.

US media groups sue FBI over hack of San Bernardino shooter's iPhone
[DAWN] Three US news media groups filed a lawsuit Friday to get the FBI to release details of how it hacked the iPhone of the man who with his wife shot and killed 14 people in San Bernardino last year.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said it wanted to access Syed Rizwan Farook's locked iPhone 5c to look into possible links to the Islamic State

Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik killed 14 people at a holiday gathering in San Bernardino, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, in December. They were also killed by police after a chase.

The federal law enforcement agency took Apple to court in February to compel them to help, but dropped the suit weeks later after hacking the phone with third-party help.

The FBI has yet to name the outside party or the cost involved.

Europe
‘I wish we’d died in the sea’: Refugees complain of poor health in Greek camps
[RUDAW.NET] Living for months in these tents and warehouses has made the lives of Kurdish refugees so difficult they say there is little difference between the camps on the Greece-Macedonia border and the war-torn places they fled.
What's the word for 'ingrate' in Arabic?
Skin and physical diseases are easy to detect, but it is the psychological impact that makes the life increasingly unbearable for the refugees.
Perhaps you should go back home...
An older Kurdish old man who fled Syria thinks death itself in his country of origin would have been a better choice for him and his family than this refugee camp in Greece.
As I was just saying...
"I wished we had died in the sea. I prefer to have died from Assad’s bombardment instead of ending up in this life here. It has been six or seven months that we and our children lived in this camp. We need at least seven years in Europe to recover from the suffering we endured during these past seven months," he said.
Seven years with expenses, a housing allowance, a car, and death to infidels...
A young man, again from Syrian Kurdistan, said camp life is causing mental health issues. "Some have almost lost their mind. Nobody is offering a helping hand. If you try to talk to these people, they go crazy."
Young man, why aren't you back home fighting for your people?
Others complain that they receive only very basic healthcare, insufficient even to treat skin diseases in the camp, let alone more serious health conditions.

One two-year child has fluid on the brain. His father is in Germany. He is in the camp with his mother and sister ‐ all waiting to reunite in Europe.

"There are many cases like this in here," his mother said. "They are helping no one. Some have kidney failure. Some need treatment for heart problems. The people face many challenges and nobody seems to care about it."
Folks, Greece is a poor country. Whatever you get is going to be thin soup.

HDP deputy jailed on 'terrorism' charges
[RUDAW.NET] The deputy co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Alp Altinörs has been incarcerated
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
after spending a week in jug.
Oh, yeah? What'd he blow up? Who'd he kill?
Altinörs, who was detained in a police raid on his home last Friday, stands accused of membership in a "terrorist organization" by the public prosecutor’s office in the central town of Tokat.

The Pro-Kurdish HDP said in a statement following his detention that Altinörs was tossed in the clink
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
on the accusation he attended the funeral of Zakir Karabulut, a HDP executive from Tokat. Karabulut was killed in a suspected ISIS suicide kaboom on a peace rally in Ankara on October 10, 2015.

In a statement released on Friday responding to the new of Altinörs’ further detention, HDP’s National Executive Committee said the case against its deputy was based on unfounded allegations and fabricated evidence from secret witnesses.

HDP added that funerals are open to the public and attendance is not a crime.

A total of 16 HDP officials, including the party’s provincial co-chair in Tokat, were arrested as part of a simultaneous "anti-terror" operation by the Turkish authorities last Friday.

The party’s co-chairs Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag face charges of "terrorism" alongside dozens of their party colleagues in the Turkish parliament.

The Turkish parliament voted in May to lift immunity from a select group of politicians, including many HDP MPs, accused of terrorism-related offenses.

Turkish army kills 5 alleged PKK in retaliation for politician’s murder
[RUDAW.NET] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
claimed to have killed five Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) fighters in retaliation for the death of a member of the ruling party, which Ankara blamed on the PKK.
Meaning they could have captured them, but gave them head shots instead,
In a military operation in Semdinli, in Turkey’s border region with Iran and Iraq, Turkish soldiers killed five PKK on Friday, Rooters reported citing security sources.

The operation was in retaliation for the death of Ahmet Budak who was killed on Wednesday.

Budak was the Justice and Development Party (AKP) candidate in Hakkari in the November 2015 elections. He was shot outside his home on Wednesday while in the presence of his son, Turkish media reported.

Budak later died in hospital.

A three day curfew was announced in the town and a security operation was launched to apprehend the shooters.

Security sources told Rooters that three suspected PKK fighters were killed in Semdinli and two others were killed close by. The source did not give any further details.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the killing of Budak.

Violence between Turkish forces and the PKK in the southeast has started to heat up again. The number of casualties rose in August for the first time since they peaked in February, according to data compiled by the International Crisis Group. The majority of those killed in August have been in rural areas.

On Thursday, ten people in a village north of Hakkari were killed, including seven village guards, two soldiers, and one civilian. The Turkish military blamed the PKK.

Iraq
As Mosul offensive looms Nineveh Christians hope for own province
[RUDAW.NET] Christian refugees from Nineveh Plains say the establishment of a Christian region or province in Iraq after the anticipated djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
offensive can further protect their community. They say a Christian-administrated province will support the long-term stability in the volatile plains where mixed ethnic groups share common territorial claims.

"Almost all Christian refugees who come to my Church to pray would favor to live in a Christian region or province under international protection," says Father Jamil Gorgis, a local priest in Dohuk, where some 75,000 Christians from Mosul have taken shelter.

Mari says a Christian province where the administrative bodies are elected by the Christians will be able to promote and preserve their fragile community from future uncertainties.

The Nineveh plains, located mainly in Nineveh province south of Dohuk, has been one of the most volatile regions in Iraq with a rich mixture of ethnic and religious groups.

Christian localities in the area have often been vulnerable amid the ongoing sectarian tensions that forced many of the families to leave their homes for the safety of the Kurdish-controlled territories or simply migrating to Europe.

The area is part of the disputed territories according to Iraqi constitution which says its fate, along with a number of other places, should be determined by a referendum.

Iraq was home to over 1.5 million Christians before the country plunged into bloody sectarian conflict in 2003. But many left the country after systematic attacks on their neighborhoods in Baghdad and elsewhere.

Government officials say more than hundred churches and monasteries in Mosul have been demolished by the ISIS forces of Evil since 2014.

Large parts of the Nineveh Plains have been patrolled by Peshmarga forces since 2014 when Iraqi army withdrew from the area following the ISIS offensive.

s’ (ISIS) chief front man, Wael Abdel Salman, in a drone strike, mere weeks after killing his predecessor, Mohammad al-Adnani, in a similar attack.

The Pentagon’s press secretary Peter Cook announced on Friday that the strike which killed Salman, also knonw as Abu Muhammad Furqan, took place on September 7.

Salman, Cook said, was one of the bully boy groups’ "most big shots," who was also "a close associate" of al-Adnani.

"He operated as the minister of information for the terror organization and was a prominent member of its Senior Shura Council ‐ ISIS’s [ISIS] leadership group," Cook added.

The Pentagon’s press secretary also said that Salman oversaw the production of ISIS’s infamous "terrorist propaganda videos showing torture and executions."

Cook also said that the continued targeting of members of the ISIS leadership is an effective strategy.

"The removal of ISIS’s big shots degrades its ability to retain territory, and its ability to plan, finance and direct attacks inside and outside the region," Cook said.

Turkish plans to construct dams threaten agriculture in Kurdistan Region
[RUDAW.NET] The construction of eight large and middle size dams on two rivers in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
will likely to have long-term impact on the environment in the neighbouring Kurdistan Region, according to Kurdish officials.

The mayor in the Kurdish city of Zakho says some 44 villages near the Turkish border will suffer from the shortage of water if Ankara builds these dams. He also warned that construction will have "immediate consequences" for the local agriculture in that region.

"Obviously there are international agreements on rivers that are shared by countries and Turkey should respect them too," said Mayor Botan Mohsin, who fears the dams would also have a negative environmental impact on the region.

Mohsin says the drinking water supply in the neighbouring city could also be affected in the long run if the dams prevent the flow of the river into the Kurdistan Region.

Although the rivers of Khabar and Hizili originate in Turkey the largest parts of the two rivers, 88 percent, flow in the Kurdistan Region.

Turkey says it will need the dams for irrigation purposes in heavily drought-affected regions along its borders with Syria and Kurdistan Region.

Southeast Asia
Inquest: Thai police gunned down 4 unarmed civilians
[AFP] An inquest has ruled that security forces gunned down four unarmed Muslim men in southern Thailand, a rare finding that could pave the way for landmark prosecutions of government officials.

No one from Thai security forces has ever been jailed for extrajudicial killings or torture in the far south, despite frequent allegations of abuse.

Two villagers and two students were gunned down on March 25 last year during a raid in Pattani province when security forces opened fire on a group of suspected insurgents. Initially, the authorities said the men were armed militants, but an investigating panel set up after the killings revealed the four to be unarmed civilians.

Weeks after the killings, Thai police said seven security officers would be charged with murder over the incident. More than a year later, however, no charges have been brought. Activists hope the ruling will finally see criminal charges brought against the culprits

Ms Pornpen Khongkachonkiet of Amnesty International Thailand said, "Sadly, this is not an extraordinary case... we have handled similar cases before. But in the end, you never see any punishment for the officials."

Muslims in the region feel "nothing has changed since Tak Bai", she added, referring to the deaths in 2004 of dozenss of Muslim demonstrators detained by the authorities, a clarion call for the insurgency to this day.

Military spokesman Colonel Pramote Prom-In said,"When there has been a mistake, we cannot deny responsibility... but a court will decide whether the authorities are guilty of rights violations."

Europe
Fight against terror is not a clash of civilizations, says EU Parliament Speaker
[RUDAW.NET] European Parliament Speaker Martin Shultz says the war against world terrorism is fought by all faiths and should not be regarded as a clash between different civilizations.
After fifteen years they're still trying to separate brutish Islamic behavior from Islam. It's still a clash between Arabian "civilization" and Western civilization. Whether you call it fish or fowl, vegetable or mineral, it's still not a rose.
Speaking to Rudaw on the sidelines of EU top meeting in the Slovakian capital, Shultz said Moslem communities around the world are the "greatest victims" of terror and have "actively" taken part in the global war against Islamic Sate insurgency.

"We need to prevent this issue from becoming a clash of civilizations and faiths as we see more and more people try to label it as such," Shultz said, referring to the international coalition efforts against the ISIS.

"This is a war against radicalism even within the Western civilization. ISIS strategy is firstly to target moderate Moslems," he added.

Some 20 nations across the world have joined the US-led coalition against ISIS snuffies in Syria and Iraq that include among others Morocco, Jordan, Australia, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and La Belle France.

Shultz said the EU has special programs to help radicalized young people in Europe to abandon terror groups and reintegrate with their communities.

"The EU will work to prevent the flow of money and arms to the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
and also to confront radicalization of the young in Europe," he said.

Some 10,000 imported muscle are believed to have joined the ISIS ranks in Syria and Iraq since 2014 although many have died in the war or returned to their home countries.

Flight Ops Of 15 F-35As Suspended Due To Fuel Tank Problem
"The US Air Force and Norway announced the temporary suspension of flight operations for 15 F-35As today because of "peeling and crumbling insulation in avionics cooling lines inside the fuel tanks."

The problem, caused by a supplier, was discovered during depot modification of an F-35A and affects a total of 57 aircraft, 42 of them still on the production line.

The Air Force statement by Ann Stefanek says 10 planes at Hill AFB, Utah, four at Luke AFB, Ariz. (including the two Norwegian planes), and one at Nellis AFB, Nev. are affected. Of the aircraft still in production, 28 belong to the U.S. and partner nations (three are Norwegian) and 14 are Foreign Military Sales aircraft."

#2  From Lockheed Martin:
In consultation with our customers, a precautionary suspension of flight operations was issued for 15 F-35A aircraft. This action was taken after non-conforming insulation was found on coolant tubing carrying Poly-Alpha-Olefin (PAO) throughout the jet’s wings.

This issue was discovered during depot maintenance on one of the impacted jets where loose insulation was discovered. The issue is confined to one supplier source and one batch of parts. In total, 57 F-35As are affected; 42 are in production and 15 have been delivered to the U.S. Air Force and Norway.

This is not a technical or design issue, it is supply chain manufacturing quality issue. It will likely require depot-level maintenance to address the corrective actions for the 15 jets in the field. The U.S. Government and Industry engineering teams are analyzing the best approach to resolve this issue. For the 42 F-35As in assembly, the issue will be addressed prior to their delivery.

... the lunatic leader of Boko Haram who has been reported dead at least eleven times, pledged his body and soul to ISIS, told his fighters to hang it up once or twice, and been fire by the Caliph and refused to step down ...
, its notorious former leader, apparently became too much for ISIS leadership in the Middle East, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Barnawi, rumored to be a son of the group’s founder, reportedly told ISIS’ newspaper that jihadists should shift their focus to Nigeria’s Christians, in a bid to win over public support after Shekau spent years attacking Moslem villages that didn’t join Boko Haram’s ranks.

The group, an ISIS affiliate, should be "booby-trapping and blowing up every church that we are able to reach, and killing all those we find from the citizens of the cross," Barnawi told the newspaper, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Such a move could exploit existing tensions in Nigerian communities with split Moslem and Christian populations, the newspaper added.

Under Shekau ‐ who took control of the group in 2009 ‐ Moslem civilians became the majority of the casualties in the violence, with holy warriors frequently enlisting children to carry out suicide kabooms.

"You can’t really be more barbaric and more savage than Shekau," Issoufou Yahaya, a political analyst and head of the history department at the Niamey University in Niger, told The Wall Street Journal. "He’s the pinnacle of barbarism."

But Shekau has not recognized Barnawi’s appointment, accusing him of apostasy and saying that ISIS’ leader, His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
, has been duped.

The two factions have been clashing as a result, accusing each other of abandoning their faith, The Wall Street Journal reported.

A new Boko Haram video released this week that declared allegiance to Shekau vowed to kill Nigeria’s president and army chief, according to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

New Boko Haram Video Threatens to Kill Nigeria's President

[ABCNEWS.GO] A new video by Boko Haram threatens to kill Nigeria's president and army chief and warns of further destruction, though the Islamic Death Eaters have not mounted a major attack in Nigeria in months.

A preacher in the video says Boko Haram is "even stronger now" and "will destroy what we never destroyed before," according to a translation from the Hausa by Premium Times newspaper.

The video posted on YouTube on Wednesday says it was shot Monday in Nigeria's northeastern Sambisa Forest at prayers marking Eid al-Adha festival. It shows scores of worshipping men, many armed, in a mosque and at an outdoor ceremony.

Army discovers Boko Haram conspiracy

[NEWS24.NG] The Nigerian Army claim to have uncovered a conspiracy in the latest Boko Haram video, saying that the images in the video showing thousands of Lions of Islam observing prayers during Eid celebrations as being photo-shopped, Naij reports.

The Army said in a statement that it sought to ease Nigerians who were apprehensive over the video, describing the act as a last resort to the few remaining Boko haram members to remain relevant.

"This has cast aspersion to the credibility of the clip and therefore should be disregarded. The Nigerian military is highly committed to making lives unbearable to the enemies of this nation wherever they are and would do all that is required within its rules of engagement to ensure that no part of Nigerian territory is conducive and habitable for forces of Evil and any other criminals to stay and operate," the statement read.

It also urged Nigerians not to bother over the antics of the sect as their end was imminent.

News24 reported that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, addressed top US defence officials and policy leaders on the efforts made by the military in the fight against insurgency in the North-East.

Buratai emphasised the fact that the fight against terrorism was one that concerned the entire global community and not only the countries.

Somali army, al-Shabaab fighting kills 5, injures 6

Al-Shabaab claimed after that raid they had killed over 65 Kenyan military personal operating under AMISOM.

Elsewhere, a senior al-Shabaab commander was killed Friday in a joint operation carried out by Somali forces and AU troops in southern Somalia, AMISOM said.

AMISOM forces struck a training camp in Awdhegle town in the Lower Shebelle region where they killed several fighters and seized weapons, according to AMISOM front man, Col. Joe Kibet, who spoke to Somali news agency SONNA.

"The chief commander of al-Shabaab for the town, Mohammed Hassan, was killed, others injured and some weapons recovered by our forces and the SNA today," Kibet said.

The SNA, backed by AU troops, has stepped up operations against al-Shabaab ahead of Somalia’s upcoming elections scheduled to take place at end of this year.

Al-Shabaab has also been behind deadly attacks in Kenya and Uganda, which both contribute troops to the AU peacekeeping force in Somalia.

Kashmiri activist barred from leaving India to attend UN summit
Police in Indian-controlled Kashmir have detained a prominent activist hours after he was blocked from boarding a flight to Geneva to attend a UN human rights council summit.

Associates of Khurram Parvez said his arrest on Friday morning was unprecedented and underscored the desperation of Indian authorities over Kashmir, after more than two months of violent clashes between police and anti-government protesters.

Parvez, 39, was taken into custody from his home in Srinagar about 12.30am on Friday. Zahir-ud-Din, a fellow activist and journalist, said a magistrate ordered administrative detention for at least five days over allegations of breaching the peace.

A senior member of the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS), Parvez said he was turned away from Delhi airport on Wednesday evening after trying to board a flight to Switzerland, where he planned to submit a “civil society stakeholder’s report” to the UN human rights council. He said he was given no official reason for the travel ban but was told it was at the instruction of India’s intelligence bureau.

Two colleagues, including the lawyer Parvez Imroz, were permitted to board the flight to Geneva. Imroz said in a statement that Parvez’s arrest represented “a real and imminent security threat” and was an attempt to intimidate the activist. Senior police officials in Kashmir could not be reached for comment.

Parvez, who has not previously been arrested for his work, is a prominent critic of alleged abuses by Indian security forces in Kashmir, but was regularly invited to lead workshops on the conflict at public institutions, said Gul Mohammad, a professor of political science at Kashmir University.

“He was never stopped [at the airport] before, nor stopped in doing his human rights work in Kashmir,” he said. “It is quite surprising [but] part of a larger clampdown on human rights activists.”

The JKCCS was the first to draw attention to thousands of mass graves in remote parts of Kashmir and to demand that the government investigate them to make clear who the dead were and how they died. The group has also written scathing reports about brutality involving some of the hundreds of thousands of Indian troops in the region and highlighted widespread powers granted to troops that it alleges have led to a culture of impunity and widespread rights abuses.

Internet and mobile phone use have been heavily restricted across Kashmir this week as the summer’s protests continued throughout Eid al-Adha, one of the two holiest events in the Islamic calendar. Two civilians were killed on the first day of the festival, and mosques across the region were shut.

The latest wave of unrest was triggered by the death of Burhan Wani, a separatist militant who was cornered by Indian security officials in the remote area of Kokernang and shot in early July. Wani, thought to be have been aged 21, had garnered a strong following on social media, but analysts say the 68 days of protests that followed his funeral also reflect deeper frustration with stalled efforts to extend the region’s autonomy from Delhi.

JKCCS estimates more than 1,000 protesters have been detained over the past nine weeks. A Kashmiri engineer working in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh was charged with sedition in August for allegedly sharing or liking a Facebook post calling for the Indian government to withdraw from the former princely state.

The two academics, English language Professor T. Gopalakrishna and C. Balaramishan, who taught computer science, were kidnapped along with two other Indian colleagues from the university while driving to Tripoli

Gopalakrishna and Balaramishan had been working at the university’s Hun campus and were not known to the IS gunnies.

A fortnight later the Indian embassy said that it was in indirect contact with IS and that it expected the two would be released soon. However,

only now, weeks after the battle to free Sirte started that they, and their fellow captives have finally been freed.

The six captives were found on Wednesday in a small building in Sirte’s No.3 neighbourhood, according to the Bunyan Marsous operations room. All were reported to be in good health.

Meanwhile,
...back at the alley, Slats grabbed for his rosco...
the US Africa Command (Africom) has said that up on Wednesday it carried out three further air strikes against IS positions in Sirte, hitting six positions and a "vehicle-borne improvised bomb". It brings to 42 the number of US air strikes against IS this month. Last month there were 102.

The Bunyan Marsous operations room, with which the strikes are coordinated, consistently avoids any mention of them.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Netanyahu's secret commitment to Obama
[Ynet] Analysis: Following Sen. Lindsey Graham's objection to the Memo of Understanding (MOU) signed between US and Israel, the prime minister was forced to write a letter in which Israel pledges not to request any additional aid from the two Houses of Congress

The memorandum of understanding on a military aid package, which was signed in Washington on Wednesday between the American administration and Israel, is a generous move, which points to the B.O. regime's dedication to Israel's security and to its devotion to the commitments he gave Democratic senators during the battle over the nuclear agreement with Iran.
A bribe to Israel to shut up about Iran, and it mollifies those Democrats who still stand with Israel.
Thirty-eight billion dollars is a huge sum, which no other country has received, regardless of how good its relationship with the United States is. This was done by President Barack Obama
I bowled a 129. It’s like — it was like Special Olympics, or something...
, no one else. He deserves gratitude.
That's certainly one perspective...
Nonetheless, the tensions between Jerusalem, the Republican Congress and the White House left their mark on the agreement. Obama sought to put an end, once and for all, to Congress' involvement in the administration's relations with Israel.
He is only a president, not a king. Constitutionally speaking, Congress is required to advise and consent to all arrangements with foreign countries. It is also only Congress that has the power of the purse, not the president. But the package at issue -- $38 billion over ten years starting after the current package ends in 2018 -- would be executed by the next president and the next Congress, so President Obama's little executive plan is not binding on any of the parties after he leaves office. It's vaporware.
He achieved it in the current agreement.
...such a lovely bit of Kabuki theater...
Israel will allegedly not be able to play with the different authorities in Washington, receive something at the White House and then send the Jewish lobby to the senators in an effort to receive more.

After Republican Senator Lindsey Graham
... the endangered South Carolina RINO...
, chairman of the Appropriations Committee, announced that he was not bound by the MOU,
..and so he isn't...
and that he would provide Israel with aid in addition to what it receives in the agreement, the White House threatened to cancel the agreement. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was forced to write a letter which has yet to be published. In this letter, Israel pledges not to request any additional aid from the two Houses of Congress. It provides another commitment: If it receives any aid from Congress without asking for it, it will return the money to the administration.

This is an unusual commitment. On the positive side, it indicates that the two most important political institutions in the world are competing against each other over who will give Israel more; on the negative side, it points to the administration's suspiciousness towards the Israeli government and Israel's friends in Congress.

The agreement also determines that two bonuses that were given to Israel in the previous MOU will be canceled: The allotment of $400 million a year for fuel purchases will be canceled as soon as the agreement takes effect, on October 1, 2018. The allotment of $850 million a year for the IDF's purchases from Israel's defense industries will be canceled gradually. The fuel budget was a nice gift at the time, but is unnecessary now that Israel has become a gas power. The budget for purchases in Israel harmed the American defense industries, so its cancellation is justified.

The Americans should be given credit for not cutting those sums from the total military aid. That means, on a practical level, that Israel will be able to purchase another group of F-35 stealth fighter jets as part of the aid. The aid packages secures Israel's qualitative advantage in the purchase area in the next 12 years. That also applies to the anti-missile defense systems: The agreement puts Congress's allotments for the development of missile plans at the basis of the budget. The sum is identical.

In total, the aid will grow by $200-300 million a year, which is a nice sum but much lower than the sum discussed before Netanyahu's Congress speech. When inflation is taken into account, the sum gets close to the reality today.

In a conversation I had with White House officials Wednesday evening, they stressed that the agreement was flexible. If Israel faces a state of emergency, a war or a serious intifada, discussing an increase in the aid will be possible. The following sentence is my interpretation: All options are on the table, apart from a game between the White House and Congress.

Nigeria ready to 'swap' Boko Haram prisoners for Chibok girls
Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari, is prepared to swap Boko Haram prisoners for the Chibok schoolgirls, a minister has said.

Last year the government almost secured the release of the girls whose kidnapping triggered global outrage, but three times the negotiations collapsed. On the first occasion, in August, Buhari had agreed to the prisoner swap and the militants were taken to Maiduguri, the city Boko Haram regards as its spiritual home.

“All things were in place for the swap which was mutually agreed,” Lai Mohammed, the information minister, said in a statement. “Expectations were high. Unfortunately, after more than two weeks of negotiation and bargains, the group, just at the dying moments, issued a new set of demands never bargained for or discussed by the group before the movement to Maiduguri. All this while, the security agencies waited patiently. This development stalled what would have been the first release process of the Chibok girls.”
Sounds like terrorist negotiation 101...
The recent battle for the leadership of the group that has murdered, raped and kidnapped thousands of people and displaced millions has been a major setback in negotiations, he said. Islamic State, of which Boko Haram is an affiliate, announced last month that Abu Musab al-Barnawi was its new leader, replacing Abubakar Shekau – something analysts say may have been a reaction to the many Muslims murdered under his tenure.

However Shekau later claimed still to be in control of the group and a video released of the Chibok girls seemed to have come from his camp. “The current division among members of the terrorist group ... has seriously affected efforts to release the girls,” Mohammed said.

In an interview with the Guardian, Mohammed said that the government was now sure it was negotiating with the right people. The previous government under Goodluck Jonathan conducted high-level negotiations before realising that they were talking to charlatans.

“We are confident that we have a grasp of the divisions in the group, so when there have been setbacks in the negotiations we have known why,” he said. “We can’t put any sort of time on [their release]. The thing is we are dealing with a group that can change the goalposts at any time. It is and has been a really tricky situation,” Mohammed said.

He added that negotiations under Jonathan did not start until a year after the 276 girls were captured from a school in Chibok, north-east Nigeria, making it more difficult for Buhari. “It’s been a very testy matter because these divisions in Boko Haram are constantly shifting. But we inherited this situation and we are concentrating on rescuing the girls.”

Buhari’s government was thought to be attempting to rescue the girls. The army had launched air strikes on Boko Haram strongholds and claimed to have wounded its leader.

The Chibok girls represent just a fraction of the thousands of abductees – of all ages and genders – that Boko Haram has taken since its rise in 2009. In areas of northern Nigeria that the army wrested back from the terrorist group, millions of victims of malnutrition, neglect and in some cases famine are surfacing, presenting a humanitarian crisis on a scale that humanitarian workers are warning has never been seen before.

group-inspired murder of a holy man who practiced a form of healing which he saw as "black magic" incompatible with Islam.

Mohammed Syeedy, 21, was sentenced to a minimum of 24 years as the getaway driver in the killing of Jalal Uddin.

Uddin, 71, was bludgeoned to death with a blunt instrument, possibly a hammer, in a children’s play area in Rochdale, northwest England in February.

The man who allegedly delivered the blows, Mohammed Kadir, fled Britannia three days after the death and is now thought to be in Syria.

Judge David Maddison said Uddin was a "gentle" man who had been attacked because he practiced Ruqya faith healing.

"You and your co-offender saw the practice as a form of black magic that could not be tolerated within Islam," he told Syeedy as he sentenced him at Manchester Crown Court.

Prosecutors said Uddin, who reportedly moved to Rochdale from Bangladesh 15 years ago, had made amulets designed to bring good luck to the person who wore them.

They said his attackers were followers of Salafism and believed this practice was punishable by death.

They added that Syeedy had been radicalized by the IS group and that police found IS-related videos on his phone as well as flags and a headband featuring jihadist symbols at his home.

Sue Hemming, head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s special crime and counter-terrorism division, said after the sentencing: "The prosecution proved that Syeedy believed Jalal Uddin to be practicing black magic and, inspired by the teachings of ISIS (another name for the IS group), that the victim deserved to die for that belief.

"Syeedy and his accomplice stalked Jalal Uddin round the streets before attacking him and leaving him to die.

"The poisonous ideology of ISIS cannot be allowed to sow division in our society and those who carry out or encourage violence in its name will be prosecuted."

U.S. Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Fighting U.S. Army to Honor Buddies' Sacrifices
[Time] 'We’re dealing with pencil-pushing bureaucrats who have no fricking clue'

Between 1961 and 1975, tens of thousands of U.S. military helicopter pilots, crew chiefs, gunners and medics spearheaded U.S. efforts to secure the 67,000 square miles of South Vietnam. They ultimately lost to the North Vietnamese. Now, a half-century later, they are fighting once again. This time, their ranks thinned by age, they are fighting for a more modest piece of territory: five square feet in Arlington National Cemetery. Once again, they are losing. This time, the enemy is the U.S. Army.

Vietnam has long been known as the "Helicopter War." The distinctive "thump-thump" of UH-1 Huey choppers is seared deeply into the memories of Vietnam veterans, and even many Americans who only heard it on the evening news or recall it from Apocalypse Now. It was where the Army rolled out its notion of "air mobility"--skies full of helicopters rushing troops to the front, plucking them from trouble, rescuing the wounded, and bringing home the dead.

Shaboob #3 gob-smacked in southern Somalia
Troops from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), alongside the Somalia National Army (SNA), have killed a senior commander of the Al-Shabaab Islamist group during an operation in southern Somalia.

AMISOM force spokesperson, Joe Kibet, told Xinhua on Friday that Mohamed Hassan, the Al-Shabaab commander for Awdhegle town, was killed on Thursday evening.

“AMISOM forces together with SNA carried out operation in Awdhegle town on Thursday evening where they killed chief commander of Al-Shabaab for the town, injured others and recovered weapons,” Kibet said.

Europe
EU reveals ‘roadmap’ to regain citizens’ trust
[AA.TR] European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
leaders revealed a new plan on Friday to regain the trust of European citizens worried about migration, security and the economy.

Speaking to news hounds in the Slovak capital Bratislava after an informal EU summit, European Council President Donald Tusk said millions of Europeans felt insecure.

"People are concerned about what they see as a lack of control, and express fears of migration, terrorism... and, last but not least, about the economic and social future," he said.

Tusk argued that a new roadmap drafted by his office and backed by EU leaders Friday would guide discussions over the next six months.

"[We would] never to allow a return to uncontrolled refugee flows of last year and to ensure full control of our external borders to get back to Schengen," he stressed.

"We are determined to continue ... cooperation with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and the Western Balkans, but also to establish migration compacts with African countries," he added.

The four-page Bratislava Declaration and Roadmap identified key priorities and laid down various measures to improve internal and external security, as well as economic and social development in the EU.

EU members pledged "immediate assistance" for Bulgaria to strengthen border patrols along the Turkish frontier to stop irregular refugee flows.

The document proposed the creation of a Travel Information and Authorization System to allow advance checks on travelers coming to Europe, and suggested denying entry to suspect persons when deemed necessary.

It also called for systematic efforts in EU states against radicalization and proposed a more thorough approach to expelling turbans from European countries.

Had forfeited the confidence of the government
And could win it back only

#3  It's called FOAD.
But thanks for thinking of them.

You are dead as a door-nail and you do not know it.
You are so disconnected, you just now started to see this?
Sorry. Make other plans for employment.

Thanks to you, I now have a more dangerous Europe with tendencies to get worse so thanks for your help.
Here is two weeks pay.

#6  Trust is like virginity.

Speaking to news hounds in the Slovak capital Bratislava after an informal EU summit, European Council President Donald Tusk said millions of Europeans felt insecure.

I think you misspelled 'betrayed'.

#7  P2k, you are correct.

They also forgot that fear is not a synonym for anger.
The people are poor little children fearful of boogeymen under their beds.

They are right royally pissed at the betrayal. They have been sold down the river by elites that are bringing in millions of barbarians to fuel their own dreams of avarice and power.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Rebels block humanitarian aid to Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] For the second day in a row, humanitarian aid was not delivered to the besieged neighborhoods of east Aleppo.

The humanitarian aid convoys were once again stuck at the border, following the Free Syrian Army's (FSA) refusal to leave their section of the Castillo Highway in northern Aleppo.

Due to rebel obstinacy and their sporadic attacks, the Syrian Armed Forces were required to return to the Castillo Highway in order to protect the Syria Red Crescent Society workers that were coming under fire.

The humanitarian groups will attempt to deliver the aid again tomorrow; however, there is no guarantee that the Islamist rebels will leave the highway.
