#6  The fact that this evil bitch continues to poll at even 40% tells us all that we are in the midst of a civil war. She stands for *nothing*...and I mean *nothing*. But 40+% of this country has been taught (with YOUR taxpayer money) that believing in *nothing* is "sophisticated", and that there is no such thing as right and wrong.

And our (alleged) "opposition" party has done not a damn thing to counter any such notion.

800 Immigrants With Deportation Orders Granted US Citizenship
The U.S. government has mistakenly granted citizenship to at least 858 immigrants who had pending deportation orders from countries of concern to national security or with high rates of immigration fraud, according to an internal Homeland Security audit released Monday.
Roth's report said federal prosecutors have accepted two criminal cases that led to the immigrants being stripped of their citizenship. But prosecutors declined another 26 cases.

#7  The report does not identify any of the immigrants by name, but Inspector General John Roth's auditors said they were all from "special interest countries" — those that present a national security concern for the United States — or neighboring countries with high rates of immigration fraud. The report did not identify those countries.

#8  And no one will get fired, of course.

Of course. It wasn't an accident, not in the big scheme of things. If one takes risk-heavy chances, and risk arises, its part of the design, even if it wasn't specifically targeted.

They'd give those involved a medal if they weren't (slightly) worried that somebody might make a stink of it.

Have a look at the continuing VA scandals if you have any doubt. Or how anything even remotely related to Islam is treated by this administration.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Mexican police found a 'homemade bazooka' that might have been used to fling drugs across the border
[Business Insider] Earlier this week, Mexican federal police in Sonora came across a panel van with modifications and additions that allowed it carry a "cannon" possibly used to launch drugs over the border into the US.

According to a release from the federal police, officers came across the van while it was parked in northwest Sonora state's Agua Prieta municipality, which borders Arizona and Texas. The van was found without license plates and its doors were open.

Inside the vehicle, authorities found "an air compressor, a gasoline motor, a tank for storing air and a metallic tube of approximately 3 meters in length (homemade bazooka)."

The "unit," as the release referred to it, also had a cut in the end that could have allowed the metal tube to be hooked up to launch projectiles, possibly across the border.

Economy
Kohl's to hire over 69,000 workers this holiday season
[Business Insider] - Department store operator Kohl's Corp said it would hire more than 69,000 extra workers in the United States for the holiday selling season, the same as last year.

Kohl's, which has more than 1,100 stores in 49 states, said the seasonal workers would be added in its distribution and e-commerce fulfillment centers as well as in its credit operations.

The company last year hired more than 69,000 workers for the holiday season - up about 3 percent from 2014.

Kohl's said the seasonal hiring started last month, adding that it expects most jobs to be filled by mid-November.

Retailers make nearly a third of their annual sales and generate nearly 40 percent of their profits during the selling season that starts a day after Thanksgiving and continues into early January.

Target Corp said last week that it would hire 70,000 workers in its stores for the season, also the same number as last year.

Police names AFG 'Naturalized Citizen' Ahmad Khan Rahami as NY bomb suspect, UPDATE: Arrested!
[Guardian] According to the FBI wanted poster, Ahmad Khan Rahmani was born in Afghanistan. He is about 5ft 6 tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He is wanted specifically in connection with Saturday's explosion, which injured 29 people.

FBI - 'Ahmad Khan Rahmani may be armed and dangerous.'

Link to FBI website and list of 'most wanted.'
Update at 11:40 a.m. ET, courtesy of newc's charger's (sorry!) local television link, WABC:
BOMBING SUSPECT AHMAD KHAN RAHAMI CAPTURED IN LINDEN, NEW JERSEY

CHELSEA, Manhattan (WABC) --The man believed to be behind weekend bombings in Chelsea, Seaside Park and Elizabeth has been taken into custody following a incident with police in Linden, New Jersey.

Details are just coming in, but law enforcement sources say Ahmad Khan Rahami was captured following gunfire. He is reportedly alive but wounded, and two police officers were also injured.

He may be related to five people who were taken into custody for questioning by the FBI in connection with Saturday night's bombing in Chelsea.
At noon The Daily Mail adds:
Witnesses say he was found sleeping in the entryway of a bar on Elizabeth Avenue

Rahami was also shot in the right shoulder and taken from the scene in an ambulance

DailyMail.com exclusively revealed on Monday that Rahami had sued his local police for discrimination

The 2011 lawsuit claimed that police tried to shut down their chicken business early every night and that local residents racially abused them because of their Middle Eastern heritage

Trump advisor: Clinton accused opponent of 'treason'

The Trump campaign does not like Hillary Clinton’s remarks earlier today about the billionaire’s rhetoric on the bombs in New York and New Jersey giving “aid and comfort to our adversaries”, which it says amount to an accusation of “treason”.

In a statement, senior communications advisor Jason Miller said the comments “accusing Mr Trump of treason are not only beyond the pale, it’s also an attempt to distract from her horrible record on Isis.

If Clinton really wants to find the real cause of Isis, she needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror. The decision to remove all American troops from Iraq in 2011, which was vigorously supported by Clinton, created the vacuum that led to the founding of Isis.

Nothing she says or does can ever un-ring that bell. The only thing we can expect from a Hillary Clinton presidency is more attacks on our homeland and more innocent Americans being hurt and killed.

#20  So this is the new normal. Politicians like Obama and Clinton tell us to be brave and vigilant while they continue to import people from the Middle East who have no intention to assimilate into our culture. They do not want to be Americans, they want to conquer America for Islam. How many bombings and stabbings will it take before Americans wake up?

B) We are well beyond the point where general niceties to the evil left can be maintained. While I do respect Fred's domain here, it does need to be mentioned that the left's brownshirts and media whores will do anything, and I mean anything to keep from losing power and to keep us silent.
If they try to use force to shut me up, they will reap what they sow.

The existence of 'leftest and brownshirts' is a given. Also a given is the high probability that this site is being monitored by those not in agreement with our sentiments or politics. Let's assume the obvious (monitoring) and not give them any ammunition which might endanger the site, our host, or participants. Respectfully, Besoeker

Americans 'unwelcome' in Gaza, warns militant chief after US terror label
[Jerusalem Post] Abu Jammal a leader of a terrorist faction in the Gaza Strip, warned American citizens against coming to the coastal enclave on Saturday, days after the US designated former Hamas Interior Minister Fathi Hammad as an international terrorist.

"We warn American citizens against entering Gaza because they are unwelcome after the decision [against Hammad] was made," said Abu Jamal, leader of the al-Nasser Saladin Brigade, in a video published on social media.

Palestinian leader says he is proud to be branded a ‘global terrorist' by U.S.
[WAPO] GAZA CITY -- Fathi Hammad said that he is pleased to be named a "global terrorist" by the United States. On Friday, the State Department branded the senior Hamas leader a "specially designated global terrorist." That is a rarefied list of international enemies belonging to organizations such as al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, Hezbollah, the Taliban, the Jewish Kahane group, Algerian Salafists, the Islamic State and Hamas, among others. On Saturday, Hammad told The Washington Post: "The decision only makes me more confident about my path. The threat of killing or arrest? It doesn’t freak me out, not at all. I am looking forward to it." Hammad said, "I feel proud that I managed to anger America."

Pat Buchanan: Bibi Backs Trump -- On Putin
[Unz Review] Since Donald Trump said that if Vladimir Putin praises him, he would return the compliment, Republican outrage has not abated.

Arriving on Capitol Hill to repair ties between Trump and party elites, Gov. Mike Pence was taken straight to the woodshed.

John McCain told Pence that Putin was a "thug and a butcher," and Trump’s embrace of him intolerable.

Said Lindsey Graham: "Vladimir Putin is a thug, a dictator...who has his opposition killed in the streets," and Trump’s views bring to mind Munich.

Putin is an "authoritarian thug," added "Little Marco" Rubio.

What causes the Republican Party to lose it whenever the name of Vladimir Putin is raised?

Putin is no Stalin, whom FDR and Harry Truman called "Good old Joe" and "Uncle Joe." Unlike Nikita Khrushchev, he never drowned a Hungarian Revolution in blood. He did crush the Chechen secession. But what did he do there that General Sherman did not do to Atlanta when Georgia seceded from Mr. Lincoln’s Union?

Putin supported the U.S. in Afghanistan, backed our nuclear deal with Iran and signed on to John Kerry’s plan have us ensure a cease fire in Syria and go hunting together for ISIS and al-Qaida terrorists.

Still, Putin committed "aggression" in Ukraine, we are told.

But was that really aggression, or reflexive strategic reaction?

We helped dump over a pro-Putin democratically elected regime in Kiev, and Putin acted to secure his Black Sea naval base by re-annexing Crimea, a peninsula that has belonged to Russia from Catherine the Great to Khrushchev. Great powers do such things.

When the Castros pulled Cuba out of America’s orbit, did we not decide to keep Guantanamo, and dismiss Havana’s protests?

Moscow did indeed support secessionist pro-Russia rebels in East Ukraine.

But did not the U.S. launch a 78-day bombing campaign on tiny Serbia to effect a secession of its cradle province of Kosovo?

Robert Weissberg: Uncovering White Racism
[Unz Review] Hillary Clinton’s "deplorable" speech has yet again raised the issue of whether countless white Americans are "racists." Of course, given the term's inherently fuzzy quality, who can authoritatively say for sure? But, imprecision acknowledged, it is important to scrutinize how the liberal media elite has expertly twisted racism to demonize millions of whites who (correctly) reject the "racist" label. Far more is involved than playing semantic games - controlling the meaning of "white racism" is a huge prize in today political environment.

Moving along to the bottom line:

Why do liberals pursue this discussion-killing strategy? Let me suggest that demonizing whites in general and Trump supporters in particular with white racism cheap shots is the paramount value in today’s political conflict. It certainly outshines holding frank discussion that might accomplish something tangible. Going one step further, I suspect that the Milbank and company must know this awkward, unspeakable reality‐ nearly all black pathologies are self-inflicted‐but having repeatedly defined "racism" as anything that blacks find disrespectable, reversing course is no longer an option. There certainly are no personal costs for continued dishonesty and few blacks complain that avoiding racial offensiveness is a recipe for stagnation. Bashing whites as racist has become an all too easy way of making a living regardless of the consequences.

#1  Of course, given the term’s [white racism] inherently fuzzy quality, who can authoritatively say for sure?

Well, Mr. Weissberg, I'll help you with this. First, you might obtain a copy of the Democrat talking points. If you watch the MSM cable networks, they all work off the same talking points so you don't have to watch all of them just any one of them. Secondly, Brent Bozell and the Media Research Center (they monitor assaults against conservatives in the media) can be of assistance to you. Thirdly, you can go over to the Southern Poverty Law Center; they define all white moderates and conservatives as white racists. Fourthly, you can listen to Shrillary (if you can stand it--akin to listening someone run their finger nails across a blackboard). Fifthly, you can check out the groups the IRS has targeted. This ought to get you started.

Mercer: It Takes A Village Idiot to Vote for Hillary
[Unz Report] If you strapped Bill Clinton to a polygraph (or some lie detector that can’t be fooled by the Clintons)--I suspect he, too, might confess to a preference for Vladimir Putin over Barack Obama.

Mr. Clinton had been appropriately scathing, in 2008, about Obama’s mythical status in the media. A "fairy tale," he called the current president.

However, his wife and her supporters on The Hill and in media have ruled that any remotely realistic utterance about the Russian president--such as that he’s a strong leader who’s popular with his people and acts in their interests--puts you outside the camp of the saints.

Mrs. Clinton is making it a habit to tell Americans what to say and how to think if they want to qualify as ... Americans.

In particular, Hillary’s AltRight screed, best described on Twitter as the Control-Alt-Delete speech, focused on Mrs. Clinton’s crusade against deviationists. Provided by a twitter handle called "Hillary’s PR Team," here’s a distillation of the interminable smear against Trump and his supporters, peddled as "substantive" by the moron media:

Mercer: First She Scoffs At the Country, Then She Coughs All Over It
[Unz Review] How does evidence against something, become evidence for that very same something?

Plain evidence against the good health of Hillary Clinton has become, with the aid of the malfunctioning media, evidence for her stamina. "She has the constitution of a boar," said a defender on Fox New, following Mrs. Clinton’s very pubic collapse at the 2016, 9/11 memorial.

"She powered through it all," parroted the rest.

"Pneumonia blows over like the flu" was the consensus on MSNBC, as they collected affidavit after affidavit from their reporters to swear to how humid, crowded and uncomfortable it was for Hillary on that fateful, New-York day.

"Probably nothing," said that no-good neurologist Sanjay Gupta, at CNN, mere hours before the news of Clinton’s pneumonia broke.

How does a display of faltering health from Hillary become a reason to doubt the stamina of a man, Donald Trump, who’s like The Incredible Hulk?

Like magic, Trump materializes at multiple events a day, hops from Mexico to Louisiana, and seems to be having fun while at it. "Give me more," his whole countenance seems to scream.

Then there’s the sexism angle (where, in the YouTube video that accompanies this short text, the writer is forced to reach for some "Dutch Courage"): How is it that we hold a female presidential candidate with pneumonia to a different standard than a male presidential candidate without pneumonia?

Now there’s a no-brainer.

Dupe entry: How to end Illegal Immigration
H/t Jerry Pournelle
There is constant argument on how to eliminate the huge problem we have with illegal immigrants in this country. This post stems from a comment on made on a Daily Caller article. You want to end illegal immigration? There are five simple steps to do so:

1. One year manadatory jail term and $10,000.00 fine for each illegal worker who is found in your employment.
2. Revoke business license for 1 year for each illegal worker who is found in your employ
3. On third violation...sieze all property owned by that company...
4. Eliminate the "anchor baby" citizenship loophole...by stating that those children born to parents who are here illegally do not have citizenship.
5. Eliminate ALL federal funding to municipalities and counties that are "santuary" areas. (If you don't wish to enforce federal laws...then you don't get federal dollars.).

Those five simple steps would eliminate any and all incentives for hiring illegal workers.

That won't happen with the current Administration--they actively aid and abet such non-compliance with Federal LAW. It also won't happen with our (alleged) "opposition" party who has no principles and nothing to indicate that they are interested in anything other than re-election.

That makes the (alleged) "opposition" party just as guilty as the party in power.

But hey! I bet Britney Spears, or Lady Gaga, or Miley Cyrus, or whoever this weeks whore is, did something stupid this week.

Clinton, Trump to both meet with Egyptian president at U.N.
[Reuters] An adviser to U.S. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's campaign said on Sunday that Trump will meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Monday during the United Nations General Assembly, just as Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, is also scheduled to do.

Clinton, who faces Trump in the Nov. 8 election, announced last week that she would meet both with Sisi and Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko in bilateral sessions expected to take place late on Monday. A foreign policy advisor to Trump, Walid Phares, told Reuters on Sunday that Trump would also have talks with Sisi on the same day.

For Trump, a New York real estate magnate and reality-TV show host who has never held political office, it marks the second time in recent weeks he has tried to burnish his foreign-policy credentials to compete with Clinton, the former Secretary of State under President Barack Obama and a U.S. Senator from New York.

#7  A foreign policy advisor to Trump, Walid Phares

It's been a day, what with the various jihadi excitements, so I'm finally reading this closely before doing articles for tomorrow. Mr. Trump is developing an interesting advisory team.

From Wikipedia:
Walid Phares (Arabic: وليد فارس‎‎ IPA: [waˈliːd ˈfaːres]) is an American scholar of Lebanese Maronite Christian descent.[1] He is a commentator on global terrorism and Middle Eastern affairs.

Phares has testified before committees of the U.S. State, Justice, Defense and Homeland Security, the United States Congress, the European Parliament, and the United Nations Security Council. Since 2007, he has served as an expert on terrorism and the Middle East for Fox News since 2007 and was a terrorism expert for NBC from 2003 to 2006.

In 2011, Phares was appointed by Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney as an adviser on foreign affairs. He was subsequently recommended to and chosen by the 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump, as an expert on terrorism, counter-terrorism, and Middle Eastern Affairs. Phares is a Senior Fellow of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

New York bombing: Investigators search for suspects, motive
[CNN] New York - A day after a bombing injured 29 people in a New York City neighborhood, surveillance videos show the same man near the site of the explosion and another location where a pressure-cooker device was found four blocks away, multiple local and federal law enforcement sources told CNN.

Saturday's explosion shook New York City's Chelsea [known gay] neighborhood, packed with restaurants, subway stations, shops, businesses and art galleries, and sent panicked people scrambling for cover. Police continued to scour the area on Sunday for clues about who was responsible for the explosion and a motive.

A few blocks away from the blast site and shortly after the explosion occurred, investigators found one possible lead: a pressure cooker, with dark-colored wiring sticking out, connected by silver duct tape to what appears to be a cellphone, officials said.

Surveillance videos from Saturday shows the same man near both sites, multiple sources told CNN.

I believe that if a significant majority of the Muslims who live in this country were to sign a petition, complete with copies of photo id attached, urging the destruction of the United States, that the current Administration would demand that all government agencies *remove* from their records any copies of that petition. The current administration would do so allegedly based upon the argument that retaining such a record might be "prejudicial, and racially biased".

The current Republican members of the House and Senate would pretend to care for all of 5 minutes, and then return to fundraising.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Inside the scramble to cover up Clinton's private email server
[NY Post] Computers from China and Russia tried to attack Hillary Clinton’s private e-mail server, according to never-released e-mails from the Denver company that set up and maintained the system.

And other internal e-mails show the IT executives fretted about being ordered to purge e-mails and scrambled to distance themselves from what they believed was the former first lady "covering up some shaddy [shady] s- -t."

In a gallows-humor message, one called it "Hillary’s coverup operation."

The FBI in July chastised Clinton and her aides over the use of the private server, saying, "They were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information." But the agency declined to recommend charges.

The FBI report noted there were many hacking attempts into the system, both while Clinton was secretary of state and afterward when Platte River Networks took over the administration of the home server. The agency said none had been successful, and it never named the hackers or their points of origin.

But multiple internal Platte River e-mails reviewed by The Post show that computers in China tried on three occasions in 2014 to log into Clinton’s server and a computer in Russia tried once in 2013.

The internal communications also revealed how the execs belatedly tightened security on Clinton’s now-controversial home server and frantically sought to "cover our asses" when news broke that the former secretary of state’s communications were deleted.

"Any chance you found an old e-mail with their directives to cut the backups back in Oct‐-Feb? . . . If we had that e-mail, we are golden," Platte River IT consultant Bill Thornton wrote to colleagues on Aug. 19, 2015.

Champ Jokes About ISIS On Same Day America Gets Bombed Twice
[Daily Caller] President Barack Obama made a joke with unfortunately bad timing Saturday, quipping that the Islamic State was no big deal compared to his birth certificate, only to have America hit by two separate explosions.

While addressing a dinner held by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Saturday night, Obama joked about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s recent declaration that Obama was, in fact, born in America.

"I don’t know about you guys, but I am so relieved that the whole birther thing is over," Obama said. "I mean, ISIL, North Korea, poverty, climate change, none of those things weighed on my mind like the validity of my birth certificate."

Unfortunately, at almost the same time Obama made his remarks, the Chelsea neighborhood was rocked by an explosion that injured at least 25 people. New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio said the explosion was "an intentional act," and authorities reportedly found a second, undetonated pressure cooker device on a nearby street.

Ann Coulter: Could Hillary Tell Us What Percentage of Muslims Are ‘Deplorable'?
[Breitbart] It wasn't just the well-heeled donors at the Cipriani Club who laughed and applauded when Hillary called half of Trump's supporters a "basket of deplorables" -- "racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic."

Her campaign advisers also thought it was a killer line. This wasn't an off-the-cuff remark captured on a bartender's cellphone. We know that because: (1) nothing is ever off-the-cuff with Hillary; (2) it was part of her scripted remarks, and (3) she's used it before.

Nor did anyone in the media mind one little bit. They've been calling Trump's supporters racists for more than a year now. Calling other people "racist" is the media's favorite thing to do.

Whenever the left talks about "racism," it has nothing to do with what’s good or bad for black people. It's just another event in the Fabulous White People competition, where black people are the chips.

There was a period in this country when racism was a big problem. Unfortunately, when it mattered, liberals were on the wrong side. Only when the principal danger facing most black Americans was that they'd be patronized to death, did liberals start seeing "racism" everywhere.

Sad people with meaningless lives were suddenly empowered to condemn other people. I beat you in blacks yesterday; I'm going to beat you in women today. This is what makes them feel superior to other people, especially other white people. It's not about racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.; it's just a self-actualization movement for people with emotional issues.

Saudi royal involved in aiding terrorists, says Guantanamo detainee
[Jerusalem Post] Allegations of Saudi involvement in the September 11, 2001 attacks still persists in the US despite denials by the FBI and White House.

A suspected al Qaida operative detained at the US base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, claims that a member of the Saudi royal family helped recruit terror operatives before the September 11, 2001 attacks, according to a recently released transcript by the Pentagon.

Ghassan Abdallah al-Sharbi recalled that a unnamed figure referred to as "your highness" by a religious figure in the organization was consulted by telephone before he was sent to the US to carry out an unfulfilled operation involving the use of an airplane.

Al-Sharbi, who studied as a college student in Arizona, made the comments to the Periodic Review Board at Guantanamo Bay in June, 2016. The Periodic Review Board makes recommendations concerning the release or continued detention of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.

The Pentagon released a transcript of al-Sharbi's comments on Thursday.

"I remember, 'yes, your highness, yes your highness,' and he was talking to him about me," the transcript quotes al-Sharbi as saying.

"'This guy graduated from an aviation school. Yeah, he wants'... then he turns off his phone," al-Sharbi added.

The statements have been scrutinized as lacking important details, including if "the religious figure" in the al-Qaida organization had connections to any officials in the Saudi government. Furthermore, the Saudi royal family consists of thousands of members, none of whom are directly identified by al-Sharbi.

But the transcript adds to growing suspicion among politicians in the United States that figures in the Saudi Arabian government may have had a hand in assisting the 19 terrorists who successfully carried out the worst terror attack in US history.

McDonalds Hires Foreign H-1Bs, Fires 70 American Accounting Staff
[Breitbart] An iconic American company, McDonald's, has quietly outsourced the jobs of 70 white-collar professionals in Ohio to foreign H-1B workers.

The H-1Bs outsourcing in the nation's heartland showcases the growing corporate effort to use foreign H-1B workers to cut workforces of American white-collar professionals, and it comes after companies have used waves of legal and illegal migrants to slash blue-collar jobs and wages in Ohio and around the country.

Also, the 70 Ohio jobs that McDonalds outsourced to lower wage foreign graduates are not Silicon Valley technology and software jobs -- they're white-collar accounting jobs performed by graduates from mainstream business schools. That outsourcing of mainstream business jobs spotlights the growing movement of foreign workers into all corners of the nation's white-collar professional economy.

White-collar outsourcing "is not just a Silicon Valley thing anymore, it is happening all over" the country, said Steve Camarota, head of research at the Center for Immigration Studies.

Lengthy article.

Pope Francis: Hospitality to Refugees Is ‘Our Greatest Security' Against Terrorism
[Breitbart] Pope Francis has urged Europeans to take in more refugees, asserting that the best way to combat terrorism is by warmly welcoming migrants and helping them integrate into the "European context."

In a meeting with hundreds of alumni of Jesuit schools in the Vatican on Saturday, Francis told his hearers that authentic hospitality "is our greatest security against hateful acts of terrorism."

With your help, the Pope said, "the Church will be able to respond more fully to the human tragedy of refugees through acts of mercy that promote their integration into the European context and beyond."

Economy
Harvard: Democratic Control is the Reason for the Sluggish US Economy
[The Post] According to a new study from The Harvard Business School, the strong partisan government and the fact that Americans don’t trust political leaders as some of the reasons attributing to the slow growth in the economy.

"The U.S. political system was once the envy of many nations. Over the last two decades, however, it has become our greatest liability. Americans no longer trust their political leaders, and political polarization has increased dramatically. Americans are increasingly frustrated with the U.S. political system," according to the Harvard titled "Problems Unsolved and a Nation Divided."

The report also recommends that the best solution is to make sure the American economy s competitive with the rest of the world.

"U.S. competitiveness has been eroding since well before the Great Recession. America’s economic challenges are structural, not cyclical. The weak recovery reflects the erosion of competitiveness, as well as the inability to take the steps necessary to address growing U.S. weaknesses," writes the report.

This study just shows it is time for things to change. "The federal government has made no meaningful progress on the critical policy steps to restore U.S. competitiveness in the last decade or more," writes the report.

For the past decade, the Democrats have had control and consistently have block proposals that would encourage economic growth and competitiveness.

Investors.com points out eight plans to encourage an economic boost that were rejected by democrats including: to simplify the corporate tax code and lower the statutory rate, to move to a territorial tax system like all other leading nations, and to simplify and streamline regulation.

The Obama administration has stumped the growth of the nation, by not enacting any kind of corporate tax reform, by adding even more regulatory restrictions to businesses and by doubling the national debt.

Clinton will just be an extension of Obama, while Trump’s economic plan mimics what both The Harvard Business School report and the past proposals above recommend to fix the economy.

#5  Or, quoting James Kunstler today:
The rackets and swindles unleashed in our futile quest to keep up appearances have disabled the financial operating system that the regime depends on. It’s all an illusion sustained by accounting fraud to conceal promises that won’t be kept. All the mighty efforts of central bank authorities to borrow “wealth” from the future in the form of “money” — to “paper over” the absence of growth — will not conceal the impossibility of paying that borrowed money back. The future’s revenge for these empty promises will be the disclosure that the supposed wealth is not really there — especially as represented in currencies, stock shares, bonds, and other ephemeral “instruments” designed to be storage vehicles for wealth. The stocks are not worth what they pretend. The bonds will never be paid off. The currencies will not store value. How did this happen? Slowly, then all at once.
Posted by: Anguper Hupomosing9418 || 09/19/2016 12:29 Comments || Top||

#6  ...and political polarization has increased dramatically.

This is because of the rise of the political Left; it started during Clinton's presidency and went warp factor 8 during Obama's tenure.

This study just shows it is time for things to change.

Fuck this fucking talk about fucking 'change' - how about 'improvement' and shit like that? You know, positive things?

For the past decade, the Democrats have had control and consistently have block proposals that would encourage economic growth and competitiveness.

It's been a lot longer than that, dickheads.

...and to simplify and streamline regulation.

Hell no - get rid of some, or a lot, of it, first and foremost is Obamacare. Oh - and get people off welfare and into full-time jobs.

True Raj but I think you're off on the date by about 100 years. The rise of the left started with Woodrow Wilson and became entrenched with FDR. It grew slowly after that. There were the policies of LBJ then the total conversion of the Demos with the likes of "Clean Gene" McCarthy and George McGovern completed the cleansing of any moderate or conservatives from the party.

Jimmuh made it worse and then Clinton put it on steroids.

#9  "The weak recovery reflects the erosion of competitiveness"

In an era when the public sector is four times larger than it was two generations ago and the average public employee makes more than the average private one (30% more in CA) it has nothing to do with competitiveness.

The weak recovery is a purposeful thing done by the Democrats who want to keep the private sector weak and the public strong because they can then bribe public employees with large salaries for easy anxiety-free jobs in exchange for undying loyalty at the voting booth.

If the private economy were to recover and become robust, people would leave public employment and vote against big government. The Dems aren't about to let that happen.

5 People Taken Into Custody in Connection with Chelsea Explosion, Bomb found in Elizabeth, NJ, UPDATE: RAHAMI CAPTURED
All three articles should be updated as new information comes in.
[ABC7NY] Sources say 5 people were taken into custody in connection with Saturday's bombing in Chelsea.

At 8:45 p.m. Sunday the FBI and NYPD conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle of interest in the investigation into the bombing.

The men were in a car stopped on the Belt Parkway. They were headed from Staten Island to Brooklyn on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge

Submitted by newc:
More NJ 'Possible live bomb' found at Elizabeth train station, mayor says

[nj.com] ELIZABETH — Authorities are investigating a suspicious package at the Elizabeth train station, officials said.

According to Mayor Christian Bollwage two men found the package in a waste basket on North Broad Street and Julian Place around 9:30 p.m. The men took the package "because they thought it was of some value," walked for a bit, then saw wires and a pipe, dropped the package and notified Elizabeth Police.

The Union County Bomb Squad was called in and used a drone to examine the package, the mayor said.

"The drone indicated it could be suspicious and it could be a live bomb," Bollwage said.

The package has not yet been removed, Bollwage said. He said State Police would check it for evidence, compare it and then figure out how to remove it.

Reached after Midnight on Monday morning, a spokesman for the FBI in Newark, Special Agent Michael Whitaker, said only that his agency had responded to the scene, and declined to provide any details of the investigation.

"FBI in Newark is aware of the situation in Elizabeth, N.J., and we are responding with our local partners," Whitaker said.

Police have cordoned off the station and several streets surrounding it.

A spokeswoman for NJ Transit, Nancy Snyder, said service between Newark Penn Station and Elizabeth on the North Jersey Coast Line and Northeast Corridor had been suspended due to the report of the suspicious package. Snyder could not immediately say how many trains or passengers had been effected. She said NJ Transit Police were not involved in the investigation and the agency had no information about the package.

Amtrak service was also suspended near Elizabeth, agency spokesman Craig Schulz said in a statement.

"We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and will resume service as soon as it is safe to do so," the spokesman said.

Train service along the Northeast Corridor Line is also suspended in the area.

And from America's newspaper of record:
Five arrested in hunt for Manhattan bombers: Suspected terrorists seized as FBI hunts for men seen on video planting IEDs from a duffel bag filled pressure cookers bombs

[DailyMail] o Five people were apprehended on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn near to New York's Verrazano Bridge. They were heavily armed according to the FBI who also said they discovered bomb making equipment.

o Police and FBI said that three pipe bombs and two smaller explosive devices were found in Elizabeth, NJ. All Amtrak and NJTransit trains were being held in Penn Station in Manhattan after the discovery at station.

o The pipe bombs in New Jersey used flip phone timers and as did pressure-cooker device found in Chelsea. It's believed home-made bomb that exploded also used old-school flip phone as a detonator.

o Device found in Elizabeth is similar in appearance to device found in Seaside Park, NJ.

o Believed that the metal dumpster the bomb was placed in prevented loss of life in Manhattan.

o CNN have obtained video that shows the same man at 23rd and 27th streets - where the bombs were left. Another two men are seen on video removing the pressure cooker from a duffel bag on 27th.

Update at 8:02 a.m. ET from Besoeker (moved from an independent post because it had no comments yet):
Pipe Bombs Found Near Train Station in Elizabeth, N.J.,

[NYT] ELIZABETH, N.J. -- The bomb drama rattling the New York region arrived here Sunday night when two men walked out of Hector’s Place Restaurant near the city’s train station and found a backpack containing five explosives resting atop a municipal garbage can, Mayor J. Christian Bollwage said.

After finding that the backpack contained "wires and a pipe," the mayor said, the men dropped the item in the street and contacted the Elizabeth Police Department around 8:45 p.m. The police, in turn, called the Union County bomb squad, and the investigation was quickly turned over to the F.B.I. and the New Jersey State Police, Mr. Bollwage said.

The F.B.I. then sent in a pair of robots and determined that the backpack held five bombs, some of which were pipe bombs, the mayor said.

Around 12:30 a.m., the robots tried to clip a wire to disarm one bomb and accidentally detonated it, the mayor said.

"As a robot was trying to disarm one of the devices, it exploded," he said. No injuries were reported.
Update from the NYT at 11:20 a.m. ET:
On Monday morning, the authorities announced that they were looking for a 28-year-old man, described as a naturalized citizen of Afghan descent, Ahmad Khan Rahami, in connection with the bombings here, in Seaside Park, N.J., on Saturday morning and in Manhattan on Saturday night. Mr. Rahami’s last known address was in Elizabeth.

Law enforcement officers were searching several location in Elizabeth later on Monday morning.

The men who initially found the backpack were not suspects, the mayor said.

The mayor said that the area had been searched and that no other such packages had been found.

On Monday morning, New Jersey Transit announced that service on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast lines would resume at 5:30 a.m., but it warned that “customers are advised to plan for delays.”

Amtrak said that Acela and Northeast Regional trains would run on a modified schedule on Monday, and it cautioned that “passengers should be prepared for the possibility of additional cancellations and delays throughout the day.”

Update at 11:30 a.m. ET from newc's charger's (sorry!) WABC link:
BOMBING SUSPECT AHMAD KHAN RAHAMI CAPTURED IN LINDEN, NEW JERSEY

CHELSEA, Manhattan (WABC) --The man believed to be behind weekend bombings in Chelsea, Seaside Park and Elizabeth has been taken into custody following a incident with police in Linden, New Jersey.

Details are just coming in, but law enforcement sources say Ahmad Khan Rahami was captured following gunfire. He is reportedly alive but wounded, and two police officers were also injured.

The FBI had earlier released a wanted poster for the 28-year-old Rahami, who was said to be operating a 2003 Blue Honda Civic bearing NJ registration D63EYB. He may be related to five people who were taken into custody for questioning by the FBI in connection with Saturday night's bombing in Chelsea.

Our government is no longer interested in telling the truth. The fact that we're under attack makes no difference to them.

I wonder why that is? Could it be that their interests are not aligned with ours?

And before anyone says that this is all a D vs R issue, where are the Republican outcries for a change of course? The Republicans can't even bother to get off their ass and support their candidate for President.

Iraq
Kurds blunt ISIS attack near Mosul
(IraqiNews.com) Erbil – A local source in Erbil informed Iraqi News that Peshmerga forces successfully thwarted two separate ISIS offensives on Sunday early hours at Bashiqa and Gwer fronts.

“Military sources informed that ISIS carried out the first attack attack earlier today at 04:00 am local time against the Peshmerga forces at Gwer, southeast of Mosul.

Meanwhile, the ISIS carried out another offensive on Peshmerga bases at Bashiqa front in northeastern Mosul on Sunday at 06:00 am local time.

“After nearly two hours of clashing, the Peshmerga forces successfully repelled both ISIS offensives, inflicting them with serious damage, but their casualty figures however remain unconfirmed,” the source added seeking anonymity.

The Peshmerga, earlier in mid-August, made significant gains against ISIS in these areas, liberating 11 villages and killing over 130 members of the outfit.

Kurdish officials said then that approximately 150 square kilometers were cleared from ISIS, and that extremist group no more had the capability to pose a threat to Erbil.

The multi-purpose hand grenade design will provide both fragmentation and blast overpressure more effectively and safely than its legacy counterparts. Once fielded, Soldiers will be able to select and use a hand grenade with different effects simply by flipping a switch. Over the past five years, Picatinny engineers have been collaborating with Infantry School representatives, hand grenade cadre, as well as active duty Soldiers and Marines, to determine warfighter needs regarding hand grenades.

India-Pakistan
Kashmir Korpse Kount
Militants in Kashmir have killed 17 Indian soldiers in an early morning raid on an army camp near the disputed border with Pakistan.

The assault at around 5.30am on Sunday is among the deadliest single attack on military forces in the history of the troubled region. Four “fidayeen” – highly-trained militants who storm security installations on what are essentially suicide missions – were killed, according to the Indian army.

In a statement, the Indian army attributed the high casualties on Sunday morning to a fire that broke out during the attack and consumed temporary shelters and tents in the brigade headquarters. More than a dozen soldiers are understood to be injured, some of them critically.

The militants are thought to have recently crossed over the nearby “line of control” with Pakistan.

An emergency meeting of senior ministers and security officials is being held in Delhi and alerts have been issued for airports across the country.

The Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi, said he condemned the “cowardly” attack. “I assure the nation that those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished,” he said on Twitter. “We salute all those martyred in Uri. Their service to the nation will always be remembered. My thoughts are with the bereaved families.”

The Indian defence minister, Manohar Parrikar, and army chief Dalbir Singh are making their way to Srinigar, the region’s summer capital.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Aussie warbirds were part of errant Syrian air attack
Australia has said its warplanes took part in US-led airstrikes in eastern Syria that mistakenly killed Syrian army troops in an incident threatening to wreck an already tenuous ceasefire before it is a week old.
"Our bad, mate."
Russia’s military said it was told by the Syrian army that at least 62 soldiers were killed in the attack on a government position near Deir ez-Zour, with more than 100 wounded. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 90 soldiers were killed.

The first airstrikes on Aleppo since the ceasefire began on Monday evening were reported on Sunday.

An Australian defence department statement said its jets had targeted what had been thought to be Islamic State (Isis) fighters. “Overnight, coalition aircraft were conducting airstrikes in eastern Syria against what was believed to be a Daesh [Isis] fighting position that the coalition had been tracking for some time,” the statement said.

“However, shortly after the bombing commenced, Russian officials advised the Combined Air Operations Centre that the targets may have been Syrian military personnel.”

“While Syria remains a dynamic and complex operating environment, Australia would never intentionally target a known Syrian military unit or actively support Daesh,” the statement said, offering condolences to the families of the dead and pledging to cooperate with a US inquiry.

Home Front: WoT
Manhattan bombers could have used construction work to hide from CCTV cameras
The suspects who blew up a bomb and planted another device in New York could have used construction work to hide from CCTV cameras, DailMail.com can reveal.

An analysis of the locations of both devices reveals that both were covered overhead by scaffolding and a temporary cover above the sidewalk. The cover would have made it extremely hard for a camera to see what is going on underneath, especially at night when incident took place.

The cover on West 23rd St, where the bomb went off, runs for much of the block. The cover on West 27th St, where the second device was found, runs for a shorter distance but still conceals the sidewalk where the device was left.

Avoiding being caught on CCTV could have been a deliberate tactic of the attackers; in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013 police released images of suspects they were seeking to the public. The photos went viral and, in part thanks to an army of online sleuths, they played a major role in apprehending the culprits, brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

CNN reported that at this stage the NYPD does not have any ‘good’ footage of the bombing in Manhattan and does not have any footage of any suspects.

Police have said that the explosion happened outside the Associated Blind Housing building at 135 West 23rd St. The large building is currently undergoing renovations and images from Google Streetview from June this year show the covered pedestrian walkway that had replaced the sidewalk. Pedestrians would have to walk under a covered section for around 300ft and would not emerge until a long way up the block.

A picture of 27th St posted on Twitter shows that the device was left under some scaffolding there too.

The NYPD has increasingly relied on its network of more than 3,000 CCTV cameras which is known the ‘Ring of Steel’ similar to that used in London. The system is considered one of the most advanced in the world and is mainly focused on the area beneath Canal Street, although Midtown and Chelsea are well covered.

The NYPD does rely on camera footage from individual shops but given there is construction along much of the north side of 23rd St, there are not likely to be cameras there.

Islamic Movement in U.S. Preparing for Battle
[UnderstandingTheThreat] Finally, we are currently observing the Marxist/Socialist Movement in the U.S. working directly with the Islamic Movement at the ground and strategic levels. Both have publicly declared their support for one another, they are both receiving funding from hard-left Marxists/socialists (eg George Soros) and foreign powers, and both are openly pushing for confrontation with and the overthrow of the U.S. government.

The Islamic Movement in the United States is deeply embedded in the U.S. decision-making process, has thousands of organizations and allies, possesses a logistics train of fuel and supplies, conducts weapons training programs, has access to U.S. intelligence systems, is well funded (primarily by Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc), has strategic plans for North America (An Explanatory Memorandum) and has a plan to implement the strategy (Implementation Manual) which they are following.

The U.S. response is to say "Islam is a religion of peace" and work with the very Muslim leaders who are driving this hostile network.

Victory is not possible with this recipe.

Each year there are between 70 and 120 new Islamic non-profits being created in America, most of which appear to be working directly in line with the Muslim Brotherhood’s plan to wage civilization jihad until "Zero Hour" when the war goes hot.

Until then, they continue to prep the battlefield because they are really at war with us, and they are following sharia ‐ core Islamic doctrine ‐ as their blueprint for what they are doing.

#6  This has been a subliminal driving force for the 165,000,000 firearms owners who have stockpiled an estimated 14-17 trillion cartridges mostly over the last 8 years. Even if they get their full compliment of 4,000,000 Jihadis (as per Osama Bin Laden's planning) they will be outnumbered 40 to 1. Half of the old geezers like me are saying "bring it on". As in the middle east the Muslim's will "spray and pray" while full of heroin and meth whereas the American riflemen will check the wind adjust their sights for distance and windage and carefully squeeze one off. They also haven't seen the damage a 270 or 30-06 with a soft point bullet does to a human. The AR-15 is the present day musket with around 20 million ready to go. Last but not least every American who takes to the field should carry a bag of choriezos to put in the dead Jihadis mouths to send the Jihadis to hell. They don't obey the rules of war and neither will we.

Telling the truth isn't popular (yet). Suggesting the right corrective actions isn't popular either, even in places where you might otherwise suspect it would gain traction.

Iraq
Several Kurd effectives die in ISIS attack near Mosul
DUHOK – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) launched an offensive on the headquarters of the Peshmerga forces in northern Iraq, killing and wounding a number of Kurdish soldiers, military sources reported on Sunday.

ISIS militants launched three simultaneous car bomb attacks on a security centre for the Kurdish Peshmerga in the Khazir District east of Mosul.

“After detonating three car bombs at Peshmerga security checkpoints in the Khazir District, ISIS militants fire a number of mortar shells on a main building for the Peshmerga leadership in the district,” Kurdish journalist Nechirvan Ahmed told ARA News in Khazir.

At least four Peshmergas were killed and seven more were injured in the offensive.

“Daesh terrorists are trying to avoid clashes with the Peshmerga forces. They’ve lost many battles with the Peshmerga, that’s why they now depend on such attacks with car bombs and mortar shells,” Peshmerga officer Jamshid Hamo told ARA News, using another acronym for ISIS.

After the attack, the Kurdish forces were heavily deployed in the surroundings of Khazir to prevent any infiltration attempt by ISIS militants.

Peshmerga’s Critical Role in Mosul Operation

Iraqi Kurdistan’s Peshmerga forces will play a critical role amongst others in the anti-ISIS Mosul operation, the US Central Command said on Wednesday.

“We have a very aggressive and I think a very interactive planning process going on, that includes the Peshmerga, thew ISF and other entities in Iraq in making sure that we have the right mix of forces to do this,” General Joseph L. Votel of the US Central Command told reporters.

“In my recent discussions with President Barzani [of Iraqi Kurdistan] as recently as week or so ago, he continued to commit his pledge to continue to work with the Iraqi security forces in helping with us,” he said.

Last week, a top Kurdish delegation met with the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi in Baghdad and reached agreements on oil exports and discussed the impending battle for Mosul.

“So we expect everyone to play a critical role in the Mosul operation and so far I think we’re seeing that,” Votel said. “And we’re seeing good interchange right now between the military and political elements to continue to address all the very complex issues that have to be addressed in a large urban area like Mosul.”

Europe
Poll: Just under 30 percent of French Muslims reject secular laws
[Ynet] A poll conducted by telephone between April and May revealed that 29 percent of respondents considered the Islamic legal and moral code of sharia to be more important than the French Republic's laws.

Just under 30 percent of La Belle France's 3 to 4 million Moslems reject the country's secular laws, according to an Ifop poll published by the French weekly Journal du Dimanche.

When asked if they considered the Islamic legal and moral code of sharia to be more important than the French Republic's laws, 29 percent of respondents answered "yes."

The poll found that 20 percent of male Moslem respondents and 28 percent of female Moslem respondents were in favour of the face veil, the niqab, and of the burqa which covers both face and body.

Another 60 percent said they were in favour of letting girls and women wear a head scarf at schools and universities which is forbidden at La Belle France's secular public institutions.

Deadly attacks by Islamist hard boys, including bombings and shootings in Gay Paree which killed 130 people last November and a truck attack in Nice killing more than 80 people in July, have raised tensions between communities in La Belle France.

French Moslem leaders said last month that decisions taken by some municipal authorities to ban the body-covering swimwear the burkini could lead to further stigmatisation of Moslems.

The Ifop poll contradicted previous estimates which said Moslems constituted up to 10 percent of La Belle France's population of some 65 million. It said Moslems represented 5.6 percent of the country's citizens aged 15 and over and 10 percent of under 25s. It also said 84 percent of La Belle France's Moslems were under 50.

It can be difficult to establish the religious background of French citizens because the country's secular laws forbid the collection of data on religion and ethnicity.

There are also many people who may be of Moslem descent, but do not necessarily consider themselves Moslems.

The poll, commissioned by the think tank Institut Montaigne, was conducted by phone between April 13 and May 23 among 1,029 people aged 15 and older who were of Moslem faith or culture, extracted from a sample of 15,459 people.

#2  ...If we are forgiving and take the lower 3 million figure for the French muslim population, that means roughly 900,000 people decline to follow the laws of La Belle France.

Putting that in perspective:

Current total strength of the US Army: 1,301,300
Current total strength of the USMC: 182,000

Current total strength of the French Army (incl. FFL): 119,328

And it appears to worry them not.

#3  The devil is in the details, and I'd like to see those questions. (It might not be enlightening: I know just enough French to get myself in trouble.) If you ask, yes or no, are the 10 Commandments more important than the US constitution, I'd guess you'd get similar numbers here.

The interesting question is how far along the spectrum the sharia-forever folks want to go.

The results would be similar here. And the current administration would sluff it off as "cultural differences", while the (alleged) opposition party would *pretend* to be concerned for all of 5 minutes before returning to campaigning for re-election.

ISIS detains man in Mosul
Can't even talk about These Dreams in ISISland
(IraqiNews.com) Mosul – A well placed source in Mosul informed Iraqi News on Sunday that ISIS captured a 70-year-old man for prophesying the demise of the extremist group in the city.

“The old man was previously an imam in a Mosul mosque, who in his dream prophesied about the end of ISIS in the city. His dream spread in the city like wild fire and this concerned the militant outfit,” the source said seeking anonymity.

“After ISIS leaders heard about the news, the militants raided the man’s house in Tahrir district in Mosul and captured him,” further informed the source.

It may be mentioned here that according to the latest statements by the top US and Iraqi military officials, the battle to liberate Mosul will be launched at the earliest.

“Experts and optimists believe that recapturing Mosul, the main ISIS bastion in Iraq, is expected to be the beginning of the end of the outfit,” the source added.

ISIS executes 4 in Matbija

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – ISIS executed four of its own members after accusing them of providing information to the Iraqi Air Force for a recent airstrike that claimed the lives of a number of its senior commanders.

Uday al-Khadran, a commander of Hashd al-Shaabi, said, “ISIS executed four of its members by firing squad in Matbija vicinity on the border between the provinces of Salahuddin and Diyala.”

Al-Khadran added, “The ISIS members were executed for being involved in the September 12 airstrike.”

The Iraqi airstrike targeted ISIS position in Matbija and claimed the lives of six senior commanders of ISIS, apart from killing scores of their aides and bodyguards.

ISIS involves itself in human organs trade
A typical blood libel for this area of the globe, somehow believable
(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – A local source in Nineveh province informed Iraqi News that the ISIS stole around 23 human organs of its members and the injured in the hospitals of the province for the purpose of trafficking, after losing many of its funding sources, especially oil fields.

Sharing details the source said, “Special medical unit of the organization proceeded to steal human organs for about 23 ISIS militants of those who slept in the hospitals of Nineveh,” noting that “what has been stolen from those members included the kidneys, intestines and more; they were transferred under tight control to affiliated hospital on the outskirts of the city. ”

The source, who asked anonymity, added: “This came after the loss of the majority of sources of financial funding, particularly with regard to crude oil, which it provides about 80% of the imports of the terrorist organization. “

ISIS executes 5 in Deir ez-Zor

[ARA News] DEIR EZZOR – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) executed five young men in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor Governorate on Sunday, after accusing them of ‘spying for enemies’, activists and eyewitnesses reported.

The ISIS-linked Hisba Police raided the town of al-Tarif west of Deir ez-Zor and arrested five men on suspicion of spying for rival groups.

The Sharia Court ordered the execution of the five civilians on charges of treason against the ISIS self-declared Caliphate.

“They were accused of spying on behalf of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces,” media activist Issam al-Hamid told ARA News in Deir ez-Zor.

ISIS militants beheaded the men a public square in al-Tarif town.

“The militants forced dozens of people to witness the brutal execution on Sunday evening,” an eyewitness told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Iraq
Saddam's daughter to stand for Iraqi Parliament
Remember Raghead? We haven't talked about her in a while. She has the same dead eyes as her daddy. Better for her to stay in Amman and just count her krugerrands...
Her last entry in the Rantburg archives was in 2007. Before that she was busily funding terrorists from her safe haven with her sister and their various offspring in Jordan, which is why she was #16 on Iraq's Most Wanted list..
The eldest daughter of late Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein intends to launch a new tribal coalition to run in the country's 2018 national elections, media outlets reported on Friday. Raghad Saddam Hussein, 48, currently lives in Jordan but could return to Iraq under a controversial amnesty passed by Parliament last month.

The Jordanian royal family rejected a request from Iraq's Foreign Ministry in May to extradite Raghad and other figures from Saddam's regime who are wanted by the country's judiciary.

In April 2010, the international police organisation Interpol issued an arrest warrant for Raghad primarily at Baghdad's request. She is sought by the Iraqi government on suspicion of terrorism and has openly pledged her support for the Islamic State jihadist group.

Raghad is said to live a lavish lifestyle in Jordan, where she fled with her two younger sisters and mother after the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 as guests of King Abdullah II.
The over-under on her life if she does return to Baghdad is about a month...
She was charged in November 2006 with supporting the insurgency. Iraq's Central Criminal Court of Iraq later issued a revised arrest warrant allegedly based on evidence that directly linked Raghad to terrorist bombings aimed at disrupting Iraq's 2010 national elections.

Al-Saadi, in a statement to the media, said, “The security forces are ready to launch a wide military operation for liberating Sharqat from ISIS control. The Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) will not be involved in the operation as the operation will be assigned to the army and the tribal fighters”.

“The district of Sharqat is encircled from all sides and the ISIS is suffering in a significant way,” Al-Saadi added.

Baghlan Residents Urge Govt To Clear Dahana-e-Ghori Of Taliban
A number of Dahana-e-Ghori district residents gathered in front of the Baghlan governor's office on Sunday and called on government to step up efforts to retake the district from the Taliban.

Dahana-e-Ghori residents said that they are tired of the ongoing war and urged government to clear the region of Taliban.

"Dahana-e-Ghori district is under Taliban control. Around 5,000 families who used to live in the district, are going through very difficult times in (provincial capital) Pul-e-Khumri city," said Mohammad Hashim Karam Ali, a resident of Dahana-e-Ghori district.

"People have gathered here to see how long government will deceive us. People are gathered to urge government to decide on when it will retake the district from the Taliban," said Ali Madad, another resident.

Meanwhile, Baghlan provincial council has blasted government for being "negligent" and not launching an operation to retake the district from insurgents.

Bismillah Atash, a member of the provincial council said: "We want the police chief and the national security head to come and respond to our questions. They should respond to people's questions. People are going through difficult times under Taliban rule, what does government have to say to them?"

Meanwhile, Abdul Satar Barez, the governor of Baghlan, said that security forces will launch an operation in the near future to retake the district from the Taliban.

"People are right. Local and central government have got a plan regarding Dahana-e-Ghori which will start soon," said Barez.

Based on claims made by Dahana-e-Ghori residents, the district and dozens of villages in Baghlan-e-Markazi and Pul-e-Khumri are under Taliban control, but still there is no sign of military operations being launched.

Home Front: WoT
‘There will be more’: Chilling 911 call after Chelsea explosion
A 911 caller warned of further explosions right after the blast that rocked Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood and injured 29 people, The Post has learned.

“I’m looking at the explosion down the block. There will be more,” the unidentified male said, claiming to be standing at 23rd Street and Seventh Avenue in the aftermath of the terrifying incident, according to law-enforcement sources Sunday.

Investigators believe the blast was the result of a home-made, pressure-cooker bomb similar to an unexploded device found later on 27th Street, sources said.

In another new wrinkle, a hand-written letter, a portion of which is in Arabic, was found inside a plastic bag that held the second device, sources said.

Cops were interviewing two men who claim to have spotted a potential person of interest in the case, sources said. The witnesses were dining at the Krush bar and grill on 32nd Street about a half-hour before the 8:30 p.m. Saturday explosion when they saw an Arab-looking man who was carrying a suitcase and appeared out of place, sources said.

The men called 911 around 11 a.m. Sunday to report what they had seen and were brought to Manhattan for questioning, sources said.

Investigators have obtained surveillance video of a person placing the unexploded device, sources said. It was found by an older woman who was phoned by a friend checking on her in the wake of the explosion, sources said. The woman went outside her home and noticed the bomb, then called 911.

State police secured the device, and it was taken to the NYPD firing range at Rodman’s Neck for investigation, sources said.

Initial analysis of the garbage Dumpster that was ripped apart in the blast suggests whatever blew up was placed outside the bin, sources said. The blast pattern shows the metal is bent inward, and an explosion inside the Dumpster would have bent the metal outward, sources said.

Meanwhile, sources said investigators were “vetting” an online Tumblr page on which someone claiming to be “the NY Bomber” took responsibility for the blast and said the motive was a response to anti-gay “violence and oppression.”

“I did it because I cannot stand society. I cannot live in a world where homosexuals like myself as well as the rest of the LGBTQ+ community are looked down upon by society,” one post says.

The Tumblr page was taken down early Sunday afternoon.
I bet that's either a false flag or a LGBTQXYZ weirdo looking to be an attention whore...
You are right, O salmon one -- see below.
The Times of Israel adds:
The bomb that rocked a New York City neighborhood known for its vibrant arts scene and large gay community contained residue of an explosive often used for target practice that can be picked up in many sporting goods stores, a federal law enforcement official said Sunday, as authorities tried to unravel who planted the device and why.

The discovery of Tannerite in materials recovered from the Saturday night explosion that injured 29 people may be important as authorities probe whether the blast was connected to an unexploded pressure-cooker device found by state troopers just blocks away, as well as a pipe bomb blast in a New Jersey shore town earlier in the day.

Cell phones were discovered at the site of both bombings, but no Tannerite residue was identified in the New Jersey bomb remnants, in which a black powder was detected, said the official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to comment on an ongoing investigation.

Tannerite, which is often used in target practice to mark a shot with a cloud of smoke and small explosion, is legal to purchase and can be found in many sporting goods stores. Experts said a large amount would be required to create a blast like the one Saturday night, as well as an accelerant or other ignitor.

Meanwhile, a law enforcement official said federal investigators had discounted a claim of responsibility on the social blogging service Tumblr. Investigators looked into it and didn’t consider it relevant to the case, said the official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.

China-Japan-Koreas
N. Korea will collapse like the Soviet Union: French scholar
North Korea will eventually collapse like the Soviet Union even if it has nuclear weapons, a French scholar who has studied the reclusive country for many years said.
My bet is that it looks a lot more like Romania. That's fine as long as we get the video of Pudgy being stood against a wall and shot...
Pierre Rigoulot, the head of Institut d'Histoire Sociale, told Yonhap News Agency in Paris on Thursday that the key to handling Pyongyang's nuke standoff is centered on improving the country's human rights conditions.

He also stressed that it is critical for ordinary North Koreans to get more information about the outside world.

"The North will collapse from within just as the Soviet Union did," the historian and author of numerous books predicted. He emphasized that the international community and South Korea needs to pay closer attention to the country's human rights situation.

The reclusive country is frequently cited for its human rights abuses, although its leadership brushes off such allegations as fabrications made up by countries like the United States and South Korea to undermine the regime.

In regards to recent provocations like the detonation of a nuclear device on Sept. 9 and the shelling of Yeonpyeong Island in 2010, Rigoulot said there is no way to be certain that the North and its leader Kim Jong-un will not act irrationally down the road. He argued that the risks could go up if the country moves forward with its nuclear and missile programs.

The scholar said that while the world can condemn the North for its string of provocations and impose sanctions that can hurt ordinary people, it will not affect the regime's overall hold on power.

“The regime will not be affected because the North is a totalitarian state," he pointed out, adding that Pyongyang is using money that needs to go to food, medicine and transportation for the development of nuclear weapons.

He pointed out that workers sent abroad are bankrolling such endeavors.

In regards to sanctions, Rigoulot made clear that success or failure will depend on China's resolve, although he hinted that Beijing does not want North Korea to fail, because that would deprive it of a critical buffer zone with the United States.
Also potentially of resources. But both problems could be fixed: China and the U.S. could simply strike a deal.
The North Korean watcher said that while it may not be easy, he is certain that the North will eventually collapse, especially if more outside information gets into the country.

"Once ordinary North Koreans better understand the outside world, they will be able to make comparisons between their country and others," he said.

On the role of France and Europe in putting pressure on the North to give up its nuclear program, he said due to limited two-way trade, there is a limit to what countries here can do.

He then said France can ask China to do more to get the North to give up its nukes, and if Pyongyang persists, it can move with other European Union states to cut off formal diplomatic ties with the North.

Africa Horn
Eritrea is a prison state – no wonder so many are desperate to escape
Exactly 15 years ago, Eritrea’s hard-won independence was hijacked by a paranoid political elite who have clung to power ever since.

It was on this day in 2001 that President Isaias Afwerki jailed 11 top government officials and banned seven independent newspapers. So started the insidious takeover that has seen the country become a military state, prompting the exodus of Eritreans to Europe we are witnessing today.

State security agents then rounded up and jailed 12 journalists. To this day, none of the detainees have been tried in a court of law, and they remain incommunicado in secret prisons. Their families don’t know if they are alive.

Many civilian posts were taken over by military commanders. The army was stationed in all major towns and cities, and anyone working in the public sector was instructed to report to them.

As army rule crept in, the rule of law deteriorated. Institutionalised corruption and nepotism became the new normal. Arbitrary arrests and forced disappearances turned the country into a penitentiary state with countless underground prisons.

Recent research by Eritrean human rights groups suggests more than 360 facilities are still holding more than 10,000 prisoners of conscience.

After the ban on the private newspapers, information became centralised. State journalists continue to work under intense fear, and foreign correspondents and NGOs have in effect been banned from entering. The few who do gain access are provided with government minders – not unlike in North Korea.

Even a state-sanctioned radio station, Radio Bana, sponsored by the education ministry, was banned. The station was raided in February 2009 and the security services arrested the entire staff, many of whom were only released after four to six years in jail without charge.

In 2012, the country introduced compulsory military service for all young men and women, including former freedom fighters. In the years since then, the UN has found the government has “committed crimes against humanity in a widespread and systematic manner”, and has called for perpetrators to be tried by the international criminal court.

It is combination of all these factors that is causing an estimated 5,000 Eritreans to leave the country each month. It’s not surprising: when a generation of young people have had all hope and freedom taken away from them, the gamble of the journey across the Mediterranean offers an attractive alternative – no matter the risk.

I am one of those who escaped. I now work with a group of Eritrean journalists in exile to report on our inaccessible homeland and campaign on behalf of our peers stuck in prison. If we don’t speak for them, nobody will.

Arab-Israeli party suspected of multimillion-shekel fraud
Politics: sometimes war by other means. Did President Obama's democracy advisors teach them this?
[IsraelTimes] More than 20 suspects tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
in massive sweep; Balad calls allegations ’baseless,’ part of ’persecution campaign

Israeli police on Sunday arrested more than 20 activists and members of the Arab Israeli party Balad, saying an investigation revealed that the party had concealed the origin of millions of shekels in donations.

Balad, which holds three Knesset seats and is one of the four parties comprising the Joint (Arab) List faction, said the arrests were part of a systematic campaign of political persecution.

Those arrested in the sweep of Balad’s offices included senior members and activist, among them lawyers and accountants, a police statement said.

Police said they opened their investigation into Balad with the approval of the attorney general after a state comptroller report raised the suspicion that senior members and activists had created a mechanism to "systematically misrepresent" the origins of millions of shekels donated to the party to finance its operations in recent years.

The party allegedly reported large donations from "various sources in Israel and abroad" as if they were hundreds of smaller contributions made within Israel.

Police said the suspicions included "falsifying corporate documents, forgery, use of forged documents, money laundering, and violating the party financing law."

In a statement to the press, Balad denied the charges, calling them "fabricated" and "baseless."

"The latest arrests are a brazen and dangerous escalation, but will not deter us from continuing our work," the statement said.

Balad called the arrests an "authoritarian" attempt to undermine the party’s "national and democratic role."

A statement in Hebrew added that the arrests were part of a "campaign of persecution against the Arab minority in general and against the political movement [Balad] specifically."

The Joint List said in a brief statement that it would not comment on the arrests.

Balad, which advocates for a binational state for Paleostinians and Israelis, has been dogged by controversy.

Its founder, Azmi Bishara, fled Israel in 2007 amid accusations that he had provided the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah with information during the Second Leb War in 2006. He has since been living in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
Earlier this year, the party’s three Knesset members were widely condemned after they visited the families of Paleostinians killed while carrying out attacks on Israelis. They were suspended on February 8 by the Knesset Ethics Committee: Hanin Zoabi and Basel Ghattas for four months and Jamal Zahalka for two.

More recently, Ghattas made headlines for calling former president Shimon Peres a "blood-covered war criminal," after the Nobel Peace Prize-winner was hospitalized due to a stroke.

Iraqi kops bust ISIS recruiter in Kirkuk
(IraqiNews.com) Kirkuk – A well placed source in Kirkuk informed Iraqi News that the security forces in Kirkuk on Saturday announced about the arrest of a Muslim clergyman in the city on charges of having connections with ISIS.

Kirkuk police chief, Sarhad Qadir, in a statement, said that the man had snuck into Kirkuk from Hawija by disguising himself as an IDP and settling in Lailan camp in the city.

The man, who had been an Imam of a mosque in Kharaba Aziz village in Riyaz district of Hawija, admitted his links with IS and confirmed that he has been recruiting Arab IDPs for ISIS.

Thousands of IDPs are currently settled in Kirkuk, and only in last week, over 800 people arrived in Hawija. However, every IDP arriving on the Peshmerga front-line for the first goes through a security procedure.

It may be mentioned here that Hawija is one of the strategic locations for ISIS, and the group has been keeping its grip on it since mid-2014. The city is located in the west of Kirkuk.

Putin's coalition gains more than 50 percent of Sunday's vote
Russian president Vladimir Putin's United Russia coalition won big in Sunday's parliamentary vote winning a total of 54.1 percent of the vote with 75 percent of the votes counted, according to Russian language news accounts.

Despite a suffering economy, buffeted by a recent oil price drop, economic sanctions imposed by Ukraine, the EU and US, United Russia has managed to shift some votes away from their next biggest opponent, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, which won 13.89 percent of the vote.

Vladimir Zhirinovskiy's nationalist Liberal Democratic Party of Russia currently maintains a very close third place with 13.42 percent of the vote.

Turnout in the vote was reportedly 48 percent.

It's getting so a fella ain't safe in Mogadishu...

Palestinian youth found with Molotov Cocktails and knife; more police in Jerusalem's Old City for High Holidays
[Ynet] Amid IDF fears of a reinvigorated wave of terror, Israel Border Police find a Paleostinian youth carrying a knife and Molotov Cocktails in the Jordan Valley; Israel presents video footage to Jordan showing one of its citizens brandishing 2 knives, debunking claims that IDF shooting was an ’act of barbarism.’

A young Paleostinian boy was found in possession of two Molotov Cocktails and a knife on Sunday afternoon during a search conducted by Israel Border Policemen. The boy aroused the security personnel’s suspicion after they spotted him watching them at a base located in the Jordan Valley. The police believe that the boy intended to carry out an attack against Israel Border Policemen situated in the area.

The suspect, a resident of Aqabat Jaber--a Paleostinian refugee camp in the Jericho Governorate--was taken in for questioning.

The discovery comes just hours after a Paleostinian terrorist stabbed a reservist officer at a guard post in the settlement of Efrat early Sunday morning, following a weekend surge in Paleostinian attacks that shattered weeks of relative calm.

Following an incident which took place over the weekend, Israel presented further video evidence to Jordanian officials showing terrorist Sayid Amro brandishing two knives and threatening civilians passing by at the Damascus Gate on Friday. The new footage was presented to the Jordanians following their accusation that "the killing was an act of barbarism."

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the body of Sayid Amro was transferred to Jordan and will be turned over to the terrorist's family for burial. According to Jordanian Foreign Ministry front man Sabah al-Rifai, "We are continuing to follow every detail of the occupation army shooting incident."

In light of the latest upsurge in terror attacks, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a security briefing for the Jewish High Holidays on Sunday during which he decided to increase the police presence in Jerusalem’s Old City and on the Temple Mount. He said that the aim was to act decisively against any attempt to disturb order.

He also requested that the Speaker of the Knesset, Yuli Edelstein, continue to act to prevent MKs and Ministers from visiting the Temple Mount.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister also directed personnel to continue to act against Paleostinian incitement on social media, including Facebook and other platforms. Furthermore, Netanyahu requested a response team be set up to counter disinformation regarding Israeli policy on the Temple Mount.

Somali Father: Son is Minnesota Mall Attacker
The father of the man who stabbed nine people at a central Minnesota mall has identified him as a 22-year-old college student. Ahmed Adan told the Star Tribune of Minneapolis that police told him Saturday night that his son, Dahir A. Adan, died at Crossroads Center mall in St. Cloud.

He says police didn't mention the attack on the mall, but they seized photos and other materials from the family's apartment.

Authorities haven't publicly identified the attacker. They say the attacker stabbed nine people Saturday night before an off-duty police officer shot and killed him. None of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

Ahmed Adan, who is Somali, says his son came to the U.S. 15 years ago and was was a student at St. Cloud Technical and Community College. He told the Star Tribune he had "no suspicion" that his son might have been involved in terrorist activity.

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Times of Israel adds:
A spokesman for St. Cloud State University confirmed that Adan was a student there, but has not been enrolled since the spring semester. Spokesman Adam Hammer said Adan’s intended major was information systems, which is a computer-related field.

India-Pakistan
India calls Pakistan a 'terrorist state' after Kashmir attack
India has directly accused Pakistan of involvement in a deadly raid on a Kashmir army base that killed 17 soldiers, labelling its neighbour “a terrorist state”.
That's going to elevate concerns...
Sunday morning’s attack on the army camp near the disputed border with Pakistan was among the deadliest against security forces in Kashmir history, and sparked grief and anger across India. The death toll could yet grow, with about 35 soldiers injured, some critically.

Four fedayeen – highly trained militants on what are essentially suicide missions – died in the three-hour assault on the base at Uri, near the militarised “line of control” that divides Indian Kashmir from the Pakistan-controlled side.

The Indian army’s director of general military operations (DGMO) said none of the four men was from the Indian side and that some of their equipment had Pakistani markings. It claimed they were members of Jaish-e-Mohammed, a terrorist militant group alleged to have links to elements within the Pakistani government.

About 13 or 14 of the soldiers died in fires started by the militants’ incendiary ammunition, which consumed the temporary shelters and tents in which they had been sleeping. A rotation of units was under way, meaning more soldiers had been stationed on the base than usual, the DGMO said.

Rajnath Singh, the Indian home minister, cancelled an overseas trip and held an emergency meeting on Sunday afternoon with top security officials. In a series of tweets, he accused Pakistan of responsibility for the attack.

“I am deeply disappointed with Pakistan’s continued and direct support to terrorism and terrorist groups,” he said. “There are definitive and conclusive indictions that the perpetrators of [the] Uri attack were highly trained, heavily armed and specially equipped. Pakistan is a terrorist state and it should be identified and isolate as such.”

Former army officials and members of Modi’s own party called for a more bellicose response than the largely diplomatic routes pursued after the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai or a January attack on a Punjab army base that killed seven.

“For one tooth, the complete jaw,” said Ram Madhav, the general secretary of the ruling Bharatiya Janata party. “Days of so-called strategic restraint are over. If terrorism is instrument of the weak and coward, restraint in the face of repeated terror attacks betrays inefficiency and incompetence. India should prove otherwise,” he said.
Now there's a stance that, if real, could change things...
No group has claimed responsibility for the assault and Pakistan has denied any involvement.
"Wudn't us."
Pakistan’s foreign ministry spokesman, Nafees Zakaria, told Reuters: “India immediately puts blame on Pakistan without doing any investigation. We reject this.”
How much investigation do you need?
Hostility between the nuclear neighbours was already high after a summer of violent clashes in Kashmir between security forces, protesters seeking greater autonomy or independence, and militants India accuses of being sponsored by Pakistan.

More than 80 civilians have died in the ongoing protests and human rights groups have accused Indian police of using excessive and arbitrary force. Before Sunday, separatist attacks in Indian-controlled Kashmir had left 102 people dead so far this year, including 30 security personnel, 71 militants and one civilian, according to the South Asia Terrorism portal.

Both India and Pakistan claim Kashmir as their own and have fought three wars over the former princedom since partition in 1947.

Sunday attack’s came during a week of diplomatic wrangling between the pair. Pakistan’s prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, has promised he will use a speech to the UN general assembly on Wednesday to “emphatically highlight” alleged human rights abuses against protesters by Indian authorities.

Last week, Indian diplomats at the UN human rights council raised for the first time Pakistan’s alleged mistreatment of its own separatists in Balochistan, a restive province in the country’s south-west.

Sunday’s attack is likely to prove a decisive blow to the latest tentative peace process between Islamabad and Delhi, which has been frozen since an attack in January by Pakistan-based militants against an air force base in Pathankot, Punjab. It appeared progress was being made when Modi flew to Lahore in December for a surprise meeting with Sharif, but disputes over the investigation of the Pathankot attack had chilled relations again.

Maine Drops 9000 From Food Stamps After They Refuse To Comply With Work Requirement
[PatriotChronicle] Republican Gov. Paul LePage recently began enforcing Maine’s volunteer and work requirements for food stamp SNAP recipients to keep their benefits. The end result was more than 9,000 non-disabled adults getting dropped from the program.

The rules prevent adults who are not disabled and do not have dependents from receiving food stamps for more than three months, unless they work at least 20 hours a week, participate in a work-training program, or meet volunteer guidelines for 24 hours out of the month. Any one of those three getting met will not result in the loss of their SNAP food benefits.

Let me emphasize. The least difficult of those three, is fulfilling an approved volunteer work load of just 24 hours out of an entire month. The hardest, is doing at least 20 hours of on the job work per week. Hey, only volunteering 24 hours per month is a seriously good deal to receive hundreds of dollars of free food. The average SNAP monthly benefit is approximately $477.88 per month for a four person household size. In most cases it’s even more. For 24 hours of volunteering, that’s making about $19.91 per hour. Nice!

Abu Sayyaf releases three more hostages
[Gulf Today] The Abu Sayyaf has released three more hostages less than 24 hours after they freed a Norwegian businessman reportedly following payment of a $600,000 ransom.

MNLF spokesman Samsula Adju said the latest to be freed where three Indonesian crewmen of an Indonesian tugboat abducted on the Sulu Sea on July 19. He said, "Yes, they were released to the MNLF by the Abu Sayyaf."

Authorities said Sekkingstad and the three Indonesians spent the night with MNLF chief Nur Misuari before they were turned over on Sunday morning to Secretary Jesus Dureza, the presidential adviser on the peace process. Dureza said, "His first words to me when I spoke to him on the phone was, 'Thank you to President Duterte'."

"Basically, I've been treated like a slave, carrying their stuff around, time to time abused," a frail-looking Sekkingstad said when he was received by a government envoy in the town of Indanan on the island of Jolo.

Also released were three Indonesians held by the group, who were also turned over to envoy Jesus Dureza.

Reports say that Dureza will bring the four hostages from Sulu to Davao City for a meeting with President Duterte. But the issue of whether a ransom was paid for the release of the four hostages was not confirmed due to the official government policy not to give in to ransom demands of the Abu Sayyaf.

In what was called a "slip of the tongue," Duterte himself told reporters that associates of Sekkingstad had raised at least $1 million for his release when informed of another beheading. It turned out, however, that the Abu Sayyaf had beheaded a 19-year-old son of a Sulu court employee they earlier abducted in Sulu for his family's failure to pay their ransom demand.

Arabia
Arms for Houthis found in Yemen trucks with Oman plates
Allies of Yemen’s president found weapons bound for Iran-aligned Houthi forces on trucks with Omani licence plates, although there was no evidence of any link to Omani authorities, who are neutral in Yemen’s war, a Saudi-owned daily reported on Sunday.

Al-Hayat newspaper quoted Marib governor Sultan al-Arada as saying the vehicles carrying “explosives and weapons” had been en route from the Yemeni province of Hadramout to the Houthi-held Yemeni capital of Sanaa.

Arada is an ally of Yemeni President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi, whose supporters, backed by the Saudi-led Arab coalition have been waging an offensive trying to roll back gains made by the Houthis since 2014.

The fighting, which intensified after UN-sponsored peace talks in Kuwait ended last month without an agreement, has seen little ground changing hands.

Omani officials were not immediately available for a comment. Arada was also out of the country and could not immediately be reached for a comment.

“Arada did not confirm an external link to that shipment, indicating that the trucks were carrying Omani license plates but it was not possible to confirm any Omani authorities’ connection to that,” al-Hayat said.

Oman sees itself as a mediator trying to prevent traditional rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran from escalating into a confrontation.

Saudi Arabia, convinced that Iran supplies the Houthis with weapons, patrols Yemeni waters to try to stop any weapons from reaching the group.

Oman is a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which also groups Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.

8 Taliban militants killed in Kabul by Afghan intelligence operatives
I do so love a good tier one spy yarn
At least 8 Taliban insurgents were killed during an operation conducted by the Afghan intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives in the vicinity of Kabul province.

According to local officials in Qarabagh district of Kabul, the militants were killed late on Saturday night during an operation that was launched around 11:00 pm and ended around 1:00 am local time.

District administrative chief Samiullah Sharifi confirmed the report and said another suspect was arrested by NDS operatives during the operation.

He said at least three commanders of the group were also among those killed during the operation.

The Taliban militants have not commented regarding the report so far.

This comes as the group has been attempting to scale large attacks in the capital during the past several months as part of its spring offensive to pressurize the government.

Taliban launched its spring offensive, Omari Operation, in mid-April despite the ongoing efforts by the government to end the conflict through peaceful negotiations.

The group has managed to carry out deadly attacks in the capital during the recent months including an attack on VIP protection unit, several guest houses, and the most recent near the Ministry of Defense compound.

deBlasio refuses to call it terrorism; Cuomo sez it's not international
Twenty-nine people were injured after a bomb exploded at 23rd street in Chelsea after 8.30pm eastern. All 29 were treated and released from hospitals by Sunday.

“We did find some components indicative of an IED,” NYPD commissioner James O’Neill said. But no individual or group has claimed responsibility, he said.

Police found a second device, a pressure cooker wired to a mobile phone and placed in a plastic bag, a few block away on 27th street. Chief of detectives Robert Boyle said the examination of that device has not concluded.

Mayor Bill de Blasio called the bombing an “intentional” act but declined to call it terrorism before police had any tangible notion of motive. O’Neill echoed those comments, saying if the act was terrorism police will “come out and say it”.

But Governor Andrew Cuomo described the bombing as terrorism regardless of its ultimate motive or perpetrator. “There is no link at this time at this preliminary stage to international terrorism,” he said, adding that police will consider any motive, terroristic, political or personal. “Whoever placed these bombs, we will find and they will be brought to justice.”

Of course not. And he wouldn't express them (2nd thoughts) even in the (unlikely) event that he has them.

Some of those in power in this country are in fact working for the other side. You can decide for yourself whether this fact is accidental due to misguided beliefs, or intentional. You can also decide for yourself whether the support they received on their rise to power had anything to do with what others thought of their ability to be controlled and used.
