FBI Agents Who Stood Up for Rule of Law
by Spengler

One hears a lot of talk about America turning into a Third World kleptocracy. I've worked in a lot of Third World kleptocracies, back in the days when the Reagan Revolution was fresh and the Reaganauts thought we could export free markets and democracy to the rest of the world. We didn't, of course. But I had the opportunity to see first-hand what separates a banana republic from the land of the free and the home of the brave. It comes down to the grit of a few people willing to do their job come hell or high water--not look the other way, not accept the stuffed envelope or its equivalent in post-government employment, but to treat a job as a sacred trust given by the people.

Somewhere there are a handful of FBI agents who decided to do their jobs--to end the coverup of the Clinton private email server which was there to let Hillary turn high office into a cash cow. I don't know who they are or just how it happened, but some men and women told FBI Director James Comey that if he didn't step forward, they would--and they clearly had enough evidence to put Comey in a vise.

Breaking: Hillary cancels public appearance due to a large crowd of people chanting
[RedStateWatcher] The New York Times featured a photo of Hillary Clinton being welcomed to an early voting site in Pompano Beach, Florida on Sunday. Apparently, she didn't stay too long at her rally location at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater. Clinton almost melted at the sight of Trump signs surrounding her and people yelling "Lock Her Up!". A police escort shared what happened:

Judge Rules in Favor of Palantir in Lawsuit Against US Army
[Defense News] WASHINGTON -- In what could be a big blow to the Army’s current path to develop its internal intelligence software suite -- which has been long been marred in controversy -- a presiding judge in a lawsuit brought by Palantir Technologies protesting the Army’s acquisition efforts for the system has ruled in favor of the Palo Alto-based company.

Palantir filed a bid protest in the US Court of Federal Claims against the US Army June 30 for issuing what it says was an unlawful procurement solicitation for the service’s next iteration of its Distributed Common Ground System-Army (DCGS-A) that shuts the company’s commercial offering out of the competition.
DCGS-A spit, spit, spit.
The protest -- filed through Palantir’s lawyers Boies, Schiller & Flexner, LLP -- argues that the lawsuit was necessary because the Army should be stopped from moving forward on an unlawful and risk-prone software development project that would reinvent the wheel at a very high price.

Palantir’s lawyers have called the Army’s acquisition efforts for DCGS-A Increment 1 and Increment 2 both illegal and irrational.
Not to mention most intelligence analysts hate it.

#1  This ruling has great potential for the military intelligence analyst and his or her future contributions to the Global War on Terror.

#2  Agree - this is only common sense. Palantir is superior to Lockheed Martin's DCGS-A system for terror analysis and sharing information across DoD, DoJ and any other LE agencies.

Palantir much, much better for targeting and defining the criminal enterprises that support and direct the bad actors. Although DCGS has a good geoint set up. Both should exist and the generals and SES's should should shut and stay out of the fight and give the folks the tools they need.

Posted by: AlanC || 11/01/2016 20:28 Comments || Top||

#8  AlanC, I was just about to repeat the old chestnut "follow the money". This goes back to Lt Gen Legere overriding her subordinates in favor of the programs she started (DGCS-A), forcing them to change their eval to a favorable one from the original unfavorable one - and furthermore ordered the original unfavorable assessment "to be destroyed" (direct quote). This was all back in 2012 but its roots go further back.

Congressman Duncan Hunter fought this back in 2014 IIRC. I thought it had been resolved back then, but I haven't been in that part of the loop (or officially in any other loop) for a while.

Field troops and people that actually produce intel for the Army favor Palintir because tis intuitive and does its job without getting in the way. DCGS-A is a typical Army committee and review board designed tool, and to quote Men In Black "... everything we've come to expect from years of Government Training." (sarcasm). I've heard it called: Unusable by anyone that actually has to produce actionable intelligence in a timely manner.

Not surprised they won the ruling.

Great White North
Canada to become England and Europe
[Breitbart] Canada’s immigration minister has declared that the country will rapidly increase immigration rates with targets close to half a million people per year.

Canadian Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Minister John McCallum has revealed new targets for immigration rates that are much higher than current numbers. The Liberal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is looking to substantially increase the number of migrants into the country to cope with what it labels "demographic challenges", reports the CBC.

The current number of migrants per year to Canada has hovered around 250,000 for almost a decade. According to the Liberal government, this number is not enough to stem the problems of a Canadian population that, like many others in the Western world, is becoming older.

The government claims that the new migrants, who if trends continue will likely come from India and China, will make up the shortfall in medical workers and others that will be needed to care for the elderly population. The economic growth advisory council of the government has advised an increase of up to 450,000 migrants within the next five years, an almost doubling of last year’s 239,800 immigrants.

Supreme Court becomes hall monitors
[Don Surber's blog] Chief Justice John Roberts is an embarrassment to the nation who should resign immediately because he just allowed the court to beclown itself by taking up a school bathroom case.

From CNN:

The Supreme Court agreed on Friday to take up a case concerning a transgender high school student in Virginia who is seeking to use the boys' bathroom at school.

The case, which should be heard this term, marks the first time the Supreme Court has considered the controversial issue playing out across the country, most notably in North Carolina, where the Justice Department has filed a civil rights suit against the state's so-called bathroom law.

This is the Dumbest Case of the Century.

Are they justices or are they hall monitors?

Where in the Constitution does it say the Supreme Court decides who uses which bathroom?

If a principal in Virginia wants to decide, well, that's his job. Let's not make a federal case out of this.

And what happened to science? A girl in boys clothing is still a girl, and a boy in girls clothing is still a boy. Cosmetic surgery will not change that, either.

Nothing in the 14th or 15th amendments grants John Roberts or any other federal employee the power to usurp nature and science like this.

President Trump should replace Roberts at the first opportunity. I am thinking a rubber plant would do a better job.

2. Where in the Constitution does it say the Supreme Court decides who uses which lunch counter? (See - slippery slope)

When the court decided to trash can the 10th Amendment* or abide by the branches of the federal government voiding it, you got yourself here.

There is no perfect. Perfect is the enemy of 'just good enough'.

Black Leaders Decry HRC's ‘Unconscionable Silence' over Black Abortion
[Breitbart] In an "open letter" to Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, a group of leading black Christian clergy and intellectuals are denouncing Clinton’s complicity in America’s abortion crisis, which it says has had a "catastrophic impact" on the black community.

The 26 prominent black Christian leaders, including eight African American bishops, assailed Clinton for what they call her "unconscionable silence in the face of such destruction of innocent black life," through her vigorous support of the U.S. abortion industry.

"Black babies are dying at terrifying rates," states the letter, a copy of which was sent to Breitbart News. "Don’t black lives matter?"

On Monday afternoon, Dr. Jacqueline C. Rivers presented "An Open Letter to Hillary Clinton Regarding Religious Freedom for Black America" to Clinton Campaign Headquarters in Brooklyn, requesting a meeting with Clinton to discuss several critical issues in the black community, including "justice for the unborn."

"Secretary Clinton, we are also very concerned about your position regarding unborn children and the black church’s commitment to defend them," the letter declares. Two weeks ago, Clinton reiterated her unflagging defense of abortion-on-demand and Planned Parenthood.

John Podesta's Best Friend At The DOJ Will Be In Charge Of The DOJ's Probe Into Huma Abedin Emails
[ZeroHedge] Now that the FBI has obtained the needed warrant to start poring over the 650,000 or so emails uncovered in Anthony Weiner's notebook, among which thousands of emails sent from Huma Abedin using Hillary Clinton's personal server, moments ago the US Justice Department announced it is also joining the probe, and as AP reported moments ago, vowed to dedicate all needed resources to quickly review the over half a million emails in the Clinton case.

In the letter to Congress, the DOJ writes that it "will continue to work closely with the FBI and together, dedicate all necessary resources and take appropriate steps as expeditiously as possible," assistant attorney General Peter J. Kadzik writes in letters to House and Senate lawmakers.

So far so good, even if one wonders just how active the DOJ will be in a case that has shown an unprecedented schism between the politically influenced Department of Justice and the FBI.

And yet, something felt odd about this.

Kadzik... Kadzik... where have we heard that name?

Oh yes. Recall our post from last week, "Clinton Campaign Chair Had Dinner With Top DOJ Official One Day After Hillary's Benghazi Hearing" in which we reported that John Podesta had dinner with one of the highest ranked DOJ officials the very day after Hillary Clinton's Benghazi testimony?

It was Peter Kadzik.

In other words, the best friend of John Podesta, Clinton's Campaign char, at the DOJ will be in charge of a probe that could potentially sink Hillary Clinton.

Survey: 27% of Gov't Workers Might Quit or Retire If Trump Elected
[Free Beacon] More than a quarter of federal government employees would consider quitting if Donald Trump were elected president, according to a new survey.

Government Executive polled more than 1,000 federal workers to see if the outcome of the presidential election would impact their decision to continue to work for the government.

Twenty-seven percent of federal workers said they might consider leaving their jobs were Trump elected. Sixty-five percent said they would not, while another 9 percent were not sure.

A majority of federal workers support Hillary Clinton for president, with 53 percent, compared to 34 percent for Trump.

Among those who said they would consider quitting the government, 49 percent said they would retire, while 39 percent said they would look for another job outside the government.

In his latest campaign push Trump has promised to "drain the swamp," and said he would place a hiring freeze on the federal government, and decrease the size of the workforce through attrition.

Though more Democrats were polled than Republicans, a higher amount surveyed said they currently lean more to the GOP.

The survey sample comprised of 34 percent Democrats, 25 percent Republicans, and 32 percent Independents. However, when asked, "as of today do you lean more to the Democratic Party or the Republican Party?" 43 percent said Republican, compared to 42 percent who said Democrat.

Only 1 percent of Clinton voters said the most appealing aspect of her candidacy is her "personality."

#12  I call BS.

First of all, I've seen other better-conducted polls indicating that 95% of the federal "work" force will be voting for Clinton.

Second, these people are in federal employment because federal employment provides anxiety-free income at an easy job that can never be taken away short of committing a felony (actually, Lois Lerner DID commit several and she got to retire with a six-figure salary) and, nearly to a person, they have no skills that would allow them to make as much money in the private sector.

We're talking about people who would let the police power of the state kill their neighbor's children if they thought doing so would perpetuate their rice bowl.

Such as these NEVER quit.

US officials see no link between Trump and Russia: report
[The Hill] Amid multiple reports drawing different connections between Donald Trump's campaign and Russia Monday night, the New York Times reported that FBI officials' investigations of the GOP nominee have yet to confirm ties between the two.

FBI officials said their investigations have yet to find a connection between the GOP presidential nominee and Russia.

The bureau has been investigating the Russian government’s role in the U.S. presidential election. But the FBI believes that the country was likely trying to disrupt the overall race, and not trying boost Trump’s chance of getting elected.

The Monday night report comes after CNBC reported earlier in the day that FBI Director James Comey argued against accusing Russia of interfering in the election due to the timing, and because he did not want the accusation against Russia to come from his agency.

And Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) alleged earlier in the day that the FBI has "explosive information" about a connection between the two, suggesting federal investigators have "explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisors and the Russian government" and must make it public.

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and critics have criticized Trump for praising Russian President Vladimir Putin. But Trump has pushed back that he has "nothing to do" with Russia and doesn’t know Putin.

The conclusions also comes amid a report from Slate that an unnamed computer scientist found a connection between a Trump organization server and two servers registered to a Moscow bank.

The FBI is also reportedly looking into former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort’s foreign business and political dealings, according to NBC.

FBI officials declined to comment for the Times story, but intelligence officials have said in interviews over the past several weeks that apparent connections between Trump aides and Moscow motivated them to open a larger investigation.

So far, no evidence that has surfaced that Trump has any links to Russia.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
It's past time for a special prosecutor and new FBI Director
[CNN] The time has come for President Obama to get off the Clinton campaign trail, take a deep breath and restore public confidence in the integrity of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails.

How? Appoint a special prosecutor and a new FBI director.
Lately, the FBI, while acting without the customary supervision of the Justice Department, appears to be a runaway train on a collision course with the concept of fairness in next week's presidential election. Democratic Senator Harry Reid and former White House ethics counsel Richard Painter have accused FBI Director James Comey of violating the Hatch Act by illegally using his office to influence the election.

While the claim of a Hatch Act violation is a stretch, the appointment of an independent prosecutor and the replacement of Comey are nonetheless urgently required, if not outright overdue. The tangled relationship between the Clintons and Attorney General Loretta Lynch should have prompted appointment of an independent special prosecutor long ago.

Afghanistan
Afghan Government Lost 2 Percent of Territory This Summer
[Free Beacon] The Afghan government lost control of 2 percent of its territory this summer, as Taliban insurgents have continued to launch attacks in an ongoing conflict that top officials describe as a "stalemate."

The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction released its quarterly report to Congress over the weekend, naming the Taliban insurgency as the "most immediate challenge" to ongoing U.S. efforts to rebuild the war-torn country.

The report, citing figures from U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, states that the Afghan government controlled or influenced approximately 63.4 percent of Afghanistan’s districts as of August 28, over two percent less than the 65.6 percent it controlled three months earlier.

The Taliban wields the most substantial power in Helmand province, where 21 percent of districts are either controlled or influenced by insurgents.

The Afghan government controls 258 of the country’s 407 districts, while insurgents hold 33 districts and 116 districts are contested.

The special inspector general report preceded the publication of a New York Times article outlining how Taliban fighters have gained ground in Helmand, Kunduz, and Uruzgan provinces over the last week as Afghan forces have surrendered their posts.

Dutch anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders goes on trial again for hate speech
Finally. They've only been talking about it incessantly for the past two years.
[IsraelTimes] Dutch anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders goes on trial in a landmark case on hate speech as a high-security court heard how children had been scared by inflammatory calls that fewer Moroccans should live in the country.
Oh no! Not terrified children!!
As expected, the firebrand
...firebrands are noted more for audio volume and the quantity of spittle generated than for any actual logic in their arguments...
MP with the peroxide-blonde hair snubs the court, leaving his defense lawyer to read out a statement to explain the no-show.

"It is a political process and I have decided not to be present. It’s my right as a politician to speak out if there is a problem in the Netherlands," says Wilders’ statement. Prosecutors confirm they will not demand that he appear.

Analysts say the highly-anticipated trial will test the boundaries of freedom of expression as general elections loom in March.
The prosecution hopes to finally kick Mr. Wilders out of politics, though each time he has been tried for such things he has garnered more votes. This trial should make him the most popular politician in the Netherlands, and then they'll have to let him form the government.
Three judges are hearing the case against Wilders, 53, on charges of insulting a racial group and inciting racial hatred after comments he made about Moroccans living in the Netherlands.

The trial focuses in part on a comment made at a March 2014 local government election rally, when Wilders asked supporters whether they wanted "fewer or more Moroccans in your city and in the Netherlands."

When the crowd shouted back "Fewer! Fewer!" a smiling Wilders answered: "We’re going to organize that."

His 2014 statements were met with outrage including from the small but vocal Dutch Moslem community. An avalanche of 6,400 complaints followed.

Bosnian court jails 7 people for fighting in Syria

[Ynet] A Bosnian court has sentenced seven people to a total of more than 12 years in jail for joining ISIS in Syria and for illegally owning weapons. The court said Monday that the seven were found guilty of joining IS between 2013 and 2014. The sentences ranged from one year to three years.

Of the 130 Bosnian citizens who had previously left, nearly 50 reportedly died in battles.

Islamic State says it was behind murder of German teen

[IsraelTimes] German authorities are investigating a claim by jihadist group Islamic State to be behind the mid-October murder of a teenage boy in Hamburg, a police spokeswoman said Sunday. IS-affiliated news agency Amaq reported on Saturday that the jihadist group had claimed responsibility for the October 16 knife attack.

“A soldier of the Islamic State stabbed two individuals in Hamburg city on the 16th of this month,” the release said, in response to “calls to target the citizens of coalition countries” that are fighting IS in Iraq and Syria.

“We are looking into the authenticity of the IS claim of responsibility,” the police spokeswoman told AFP. A specialist political crimes unit is now involved in the case, she added.

Meanwhile, news agency DPA reported on Sunday that German federal prosecutors had “taken note” of the claim and may take over the case from regional authorities.

Hamburg police reported a knife attack on the banks of the Alster river on the 16th. One victim, a 16-year-old boy, was fatally wounded, while a 15-year-old girl who was with him escaped unharmed after the attacker shoved her into the water. Police launched a dragnet but never found the man, described as aged 23-25 and of “southern” appearance.

“The motive for the crime is unknown and is the subject of further investigation,” the October 17 police statement said.

IS’s claim of responsibility included no further details about the attack or the perpetrator.

Iraq
300 Syrian "Cubs of the Caliphate" said killed fighting for IS in Mosul
[IsraelTimes] In battle to recapture Iraqi city, children are majority of 500 jihadi fatalities, observer group says

More than 300 child fighters are among the almost 500 jihadists who have been killed in battles by US-backed forces to wrest the Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, a Syrian watchdog group said.

According to a report Sunday by the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the majority of those killed in battles with Iraqi, Kurdish and Shiite troops converging on the city were Syrian minors drafted to fight for Islamic State’s "Cubs of the Caliphate" youth force.

The Cubs of the Caliphate receive intense military and religious training throughout IS’s areas of control in Syria, according to reports from the war-torn country.

The child soldiers are deployed to man checkpoints or gather intelligence from areas outside IS control, but IS has also used them to execute prisoners or conduct suicide kabooms.

The Observatory put the total number of Islamic State fighters killed since the offensive began two weeks ago at 480, well below the 800-900 fatalities figure offered by the Pentagon last week.

While their forces suffered heavy losses, IS preachers continued to announce victory in Mosul. "Allah has replaced the loss in Aleppo’s Dabiq with a victory in Mosul," they told worshipers.

Though only a small town of marginal strategic importance in northern Syria, Dabiq has figured centrally in IS propaganda. Citing Islamic lore, the turban group claims it will be the stage for an apocalyptic battle between Crusaders and an army of the Moslem caliphate that will herald doomsday. The group’s English-language propaganda magazine is named after the town.

Turkish-backed Syrian opposition forces captured the symbolically significant town from IS on October 16, the day before the offensive to retake Mosul was launched.

Mosul is the last bastion of IS in Iraq, linked by road to territory it holds in Syria.

Tens of thousands of Iraqi troops and Kurdish peshmerga fighters have been advancing on Mosul from the north, east and south after the launch of a vast offensive to retake IS’s last stronghold in the country.

After standing largely on the sidelines in the first days of the assault, forces from the Popular Mobilization Units (Hashed al-Shaabi) -- a paramilitary umbrella organization dominated by Iran-backed Shiite militias -- began a push on Saturday toward the west of Mosul.

Spokesmen for Iraq’s state-sanctioned Shiite militias say that some 5,000 fighters have joined their push to encircle the country’s second largest city and cut off Islamic State fighters there.

Karim al-Nuri of the Popular Mobilization Units and Jaafar al-Husseini, a front man for unit member the Hezbollah Brigades, said Sunday that a total of some 15,000 Shiite fighters were participating in the battle.

The Iraqi military confirmed the figures, which, including army units, militarized police, special forces and Kurdish fighters mean the total number of anti-IS forces in the offensive now stands at over 40,000.

...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Cutodian of the Two Holy Mosquesand Lord of Most of the Arabians....
bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, published by the official SPA news agency on Monday.

The decree noted that Assaf, who held the position since 1996, has been replaced by Mohammed Aljadaan, the head of the Capital Market Authority which is charged with regulating the kingdoms stock market.

The move comes at a time while Riyadh is dealing with economic struggles brought on by a budget deficit of nearly $100 billion caused by a sharp slump in oil prices as well as Riyadh’s rising army expenditure, a large amount of which is being funneled into a military campaign against Yemen, where over 10,200 people have been killed and thousands more injured.

The Saudis have also been forced to introduce a series of austerity measures that include canceling of some bonuses offered to state employees and increasing of entry visa fees for residents and foreigners.

Africa North
LNA pounds Rebyana near Kufra
[LibyaHerald] In what is seen as a warning to the Tebu community not to cause trouble, two bombs are reported to have been dropped on the remote south eastern Tebu oasis of Rebyana this morning. A light border reconnaissance aircraft based at Kufra is said to have been used.

The bombs are reported to have fallen on the outskirts of the oasis causing no damage or casualties.

Reacting to the attack, the National Tebu Assembly described it as ”henoius crime” and ethnic cleansing, and pledged to ensure that those responsible were charged by the International Criminal Court.
Sorry guys -- the ICC won't find your case nearly heinous enough to bother with.
The incident follows a warning from Kufra military zone commander Al-Mabrouk Al-Gazwi and the military mayor appointed by Abdul Razzaq Al-Nazhouri that any breach of the law on the main road from Kufra heading north and at the town’s airport would not be tolerated. Specifically Al-Gazwi told the town’s Tebu council of elders that any violations of the law or the road or at the airport by members of the community would be punished.

The airport, closed a year ago by Tebus after a Tebu student was kidnapped allegedly by Zwai airport guards, was officially reopened on Saturday. Its director has been reported saying that the first flight would be today, from Tripoli. However, no flight to Kufra is on Mitiga Airport’s online arrivals and departures board.

Local Tebus have been aligned with the Libyan National Army (LNA) and Khalifa Hafter while the majority community in the town, the Zwai, were previously sympathetic to the defunct Libya Dawn alliance. The local Tebu view now is that they are under threat from the LNA’s Al-Ghazwi.

The 4,000 population of the remote and relatively small Rebyana oasis, consists entirely of Tebus. The Libya Herald was unable to contact a spokesman in the oasis because of poor communications facilities there.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
ISIS attacks oilfield in Homs
Homs – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) launched on Monday an offensive on Syrian army positions in the vicinity of al-Mahr oilfield in Homs Governorate.

ISIS militants hit the army headquarters in the eastern countryside of Homs with mortar shells, killing and wounding a number of Syrian soldiers.

“At least 12 soldiers were killed and several others were wounded in the attack,” media activist Khalid Safar told ARA News in Homs.

In the meantime, the Russian air force, in support of the pro-Assad army troops, launched several airstrikes on the ISIS fighting positions in the area, pushing the group back.

“Monday’s offensive came as a new attempt by ISIS to advance towards the al-Mahr oilfield. However, the Russian airstrikes prevented the group’s advance,” Safar reported.

The Islamic State has been trying to capture the oil-rich eastern part of Homs Governorate through launching several attacks against Syrian regime’s forces. Most of the operations have failed due to heavy Russian air raids that has been targeting ISIS tactical units and fighting positions in the area.

Afghanistan
Afghan troops free 19 from ISIS prison in Nangarhar province
At least 19 civilians including children were rescued from a prison run by the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

According to the local security officials, the civilians were released during an operation in Pacher Agam district conducted jointly by the Afghan security forces.

The officials further added that rescued civilians joined their family after the operation concluded in Pacher Agam.

The loyalists of the terror group have not commented regarding the report so far.

This is the first time the Afghan forces have released the civilian prisoners taken hostage by the loyalists of ISIS terrorist group although the terror group has taken numerous hostages in this province in the past.

The loyalists of the terror group released a video last year which purportedly showed the ISIS loyalists forcing the men to sit on landmines and subsequently detonating the explosives.

The loyalists of the terror group claimed that the men were supporting the government and US forces and were looking to coordinate drone strikes against ISIS militants in Nangarhar.

The local officials in Nangarhar informed regarding the killing of the ISIS commander involved in the brutal killing of the civilians in Achin district.

Kerry facing foreign diplomats' hard questions on 2016 vote
[Iran Press TV] US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
has called this year’s presidential election "embarrassing," saying his job as the country’s top diplomat has become more difficult.

"There are moments when it is downright embarrassing," Kerry told students at an event with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan during a visit to Britannia on Monday. "This election has been difficult for our country's perception abroad."

He made the remarks as the campaigns of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Dean Acheson ...
were struggling with several controversies.

Trump has been under fire over his lewd and humiliating remarks about women while Clinton has been getting a lot of flak over her use of a private email during her tenure as secretary of state.

Last month, a 2005 audiotape was released of Trump's comments about groping and kissing women without consent, which profoundly affected his campaign.

Clinton’s favorability has also decreased dramatically since FBI Director James Comey's Friday move, which has led to revival of an investigation into Clinton's email scandal.

... sometimes described as the Smartest Woman in the World and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Edward Stettinius, Jr. ...
says she would welcome giving US First Lady Michele Obama a position in the cabinet if she wins the bid for the White House in the 2016 presidential election.
... thereby turning an unpleasant southern tradition into an unpleasant national tradition.
The former secretary of state and New York senator made the remarks at an interview with Extra released on Monday.

Michele Obama is amongst the most popular figures in the Democratic Party, while Clinton’s favaoribility has been extremely low compared to previous Democratic candidates.

Clinton was asked by the hostess if she would consider a cabinet position for the first lady.

The candidate embraced the idea, yet speculated that such a thing is unlikely as Michele Obama does not intend to be part of the US government.

"She’s made it pretty clear she wants to focus on important issues like girls’ education around the world ‐ she and I actually talked about it when we were together in Winston-Salem [N.C.] ‐ and I want to be the best partner I can be for whenever she wants to be involved in government again," Clinton said. "I think she wants to take a break from it, but if she ever wants to do anything like that, I would be the number-one person."
Pretty tepid enthusiasm.
Clinton, who was the country’s first lady herself as President Bill Clinton
...former Democratic president of the U.S. Bill was the second U.S. president to be impeached, the first to deny that oral sex was sex, the first to have difficulty with the definition of is...
was at helm between 1993 and 2001, described the job as a tough one, praising Michele for her efforts in the White Houseas well as her support the Democratic campaign.

Afghanistan
Rights group concerned about human smuggling in Aghanistan
Afghan rights oversight group, Human Rights Research and Advocacy Consortium (HRRAC), on Monday said poor leadership within government and a surge in violence have led to a sharp rise in human trafficking in Afghanistan.

A survey conducted by the watchdog reveals that at least 47 percent of Afghans believe that security threats, terrorist attacks and dysfunction within government are the fundamental causes for the increase in human smuggling.

"The research indicates that issues such as security threats in different regions of the country are the ‎main reasons for ‎an increase in human smuggling, which shows government's failure. Government has failed to prevent the growth of mafia involved in human smuggling," the HRRAC chief Attaullah Khan said on Monday.

Meanwhile, a number of Afghan civil society activists urged government to outline a working strategy that could help to curb the trend.

They said human smuggling is a big threat for Afghanistan compared with drug trafficking.

"UN statistics show that the income achieved from human smuggling is between $8 and $31 billion USD annually while the annual income of drug smugglers is not equal to this," said civil society activist Sher Khan Sahak.

"Crime investigation department of the Ministry of Interior so far has arrested dozens of smugglers who by exploiting travel companies and by making fake documents are involved in this trade and we have referred them to the legal and judicial institutions," said Jamaluddin, a member of the anti-trafficking committee of the interior ministry.

Statistics reveal that more than 300,000 Afghans left the country over the past two years with the majority of them using illegal routes run by human smugglers.

Three Turkish soldiers, 13 PKK militants killed in clashes
[AlAhram] Three Turkish soldiers and 13 Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) snuffies were killed on Monday during festivities in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's largely Kurdish southeast, security sources said.

Turkish soldiers were on an operation in the Daglica district of Hakkari province, which borders Iraq, when festivities broke out, leaving three of the soldiers and four snuffies dead, the sources said. One Turkish soldier was also maimed, they added.

Nine more PKK snuffies were killed and four were severely maimed in an operation in the Hisar region of Hakkari, security sources said.

The Turkish military said earlier this month that a total of 463 snuffies had been killed in military operations in the Hakkari province.

An operation is being carried out in the region to root out the snuffies with aerial and gendarmerie support, the sources said.

In security operations over the past week, 28 PKK snuffies were "neutralised", the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

Over 200 migrants colonists storm border in Spain's Ceuta
[AlAhram] Around 220 African migrants colonists forced their way through a fence between Morocco and the tiny Spanish enclave of Ceuta Monday, clashing with police in an incident that injured 35, officials said.

"The migrants colonists demonstrated a hostile and violent attitude. Many were armed with sticks and they attacked the officers when they tried to prevent them from entering," the Spanish government's representative in Ceuta said in a statement.

Three coppers and 32 migrants colonists were treated in hospital for minor injuries, the statement said.

The migrants colonists were taken to a short-stay immigrant centre while Spanish authorities determine their legal status,
"Put 'em all down as 'conquering horde', Alfonso."
a local police front man said.

Police were also searching for a handful of others who made it across the barbed-wire fence and fled into the surrounding hills.

Ceuta along with Melilla, another Spanish territory in North Africa, have the European Union

They are favoured entry points for African migrants colonists seeking a better life in Europe, who get there by either climbing over the border fence or by swimming along the coast.

Kurds form all female battalion
The most probable ISIS commander reaction after fighting an all female battalion? "Well... shit!"
[ARANews] Al-Bab – Al-Bab Military Council, which was founded last August with support of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced on Monday the establishment of an all-female battalion. This comes amid continuous military operations against the Islamic State (ISIS) near the al-Bab city in northern Syria.

The step was reportedly inspired by the experience of the Kurdish-led Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), which have been combatting ISIS in northern Syria for years.

The newly-established all-female battalion within the al-Bab Military Council aims to fight ISIS and other radical groups in al-Bab.

Amhan, a female fighter in the al-Bab Military Council, told ARA News that she has joined the all-female battalion in order to support the efforts of eliminating ISIS in the region.

“I have joined the council with a belief in the necessity of liberating our territory from ISIS,” she said. “This terrorist group has killed and displaced many of our people in al-Bab.”

Akrin is also a new member of the al-Bab Military Council. She told ARA News that she decided to join the council after suffering from ISIS atrocities in al-Bab city.

“When ISIS invaded al-Bab city, they detained my brother and killed him. I have been criticising the practices of ISIS for a long time. I have been arrested and tortured several times at the hands of ISIS terrorists,” she said. “An ISIS female jihadist was responsible for torturing me in a very brutal way.”

“I’ve joined the newly-established all-female battalion in the military council in order to fight those terrorists and free our people and land,” she told ARA News.

The al-Bab Military Council, which includes several rebel battalions, was established after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and allied Manbij Military Council liberated the nearby city of Manbij from ISIS last August. The council has been trying to extend its ranks, which now also include an all-women battalion.

6 die as suicide bombing hits Jalalabad
A suicide attack rocked the eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan this afternoon with preliminary reports suggesting at least 6 people were killed.

The incident reportedly targeted a gathering of the local tribal elders of Pacher Agam district where the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group are actively operating.

The provincial governor’s spokesman Ataullah Khogyani confirmed that the suicide bomber targeted the gathering in Jalalabad city.

A meeting was underway inside the residence of tribal elder in Khalis family area when the suicide bomber detonated his explosives vest among the elders.

Pacher Agam district is among the relatively volatile areas in eastern Nangarhar province where ISIS loyalists have increased insurgency durigng the recent weeks.

The deputy house speaker Zahir Qadir earlier said that the loyalists of the terror group have managed to take control of a strategic area in Pacher Agam.

Qadir warned that the group will successfully establish the ISIS Khurasan caliphate if they managed to expand foothold in Tora Bora area located not far from Pacher Agam.

Revenge of the perverted Weiner
[Breitbart] Behold, the Revenge of The Weiner. Only in the world of the Clintons could a lecherous serial oversharer like Anthony Weiner become such a star.

It was the Clintons, after all, who introduced The Weiner to the young and glamorous Huma Abedin, who has served Hillary Clinton in the closest capacity for two decades, starting out as an intern.

By the way, what is it with the Clintons and their interns? Why must they always disgrace and defile and destroy them? Is it simply that they cannot resist taking complete advantage of anyone who comes to them so young and impressionable?

Famously, the Clintons encouraged the romance and union between The Weiner and their intern. The former intern surely envisioned herself and The Weiner as a budding power couple tightly orbiting the famous and powerful Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Remember the opulent and glamorous photo shoot under the trees in wedding attire that ran in some glossy fashion magazine? And Bill Clinton officiated the nuptials? (NOTE: Kids, if you are thinking of getting married and Bill Clinton is the guy performing your wedding ceremony, you might ask yourself whether this is the healthiest of relationships you’re getting into.)

I remember the first time I met The Weiner. It was on Capitol Hill years ago before he became such a disgrace that even Congress would not have him anymore. We dined at a restaurant a few blocks from the Capitol.

Erdogan warns Iranian militias in Tal Afar
Ankara- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that his country would respond if Iraqi Shiite militias terrorize the Iraqi town of Tal Afar.

A Turkish official, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Asharq al-Awsat that Iran is provoking Turkey through putting pressure on Iraq’s Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi government regarding rejecting the Turkish intervention in Mosul liberating battle.

Iran also pushed armed Shiite factions in Iraq to attack ISIS sites in the west of Mosul—this hints that Tal Afar might be targeted but Turkey will not stand still in this case.

Erdogan stated on Saturday in Ankara that he did not receive certain information in this regard. The Turkish President refused to provide further details on the Turkish reinforcements and the possible response of Turkish forces in case Shiite militias targeted Tal Afar.

On the same level, Turkish experts warned that the Iraqi Army and Popular Mobilization Forces are dealing with Sunni citizens as involved with ISIS, without any exceptions.

Middle East Expert Oytun Orhan said that Kurdistan administration is in a quest to seize the greatest part of the western regions of Mosul regardless of who will rule the center of Mosul. “Turkish continuous targeting of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) has a negative impact on Turkey because later on it will have to expand its intelligence and air activities to limit the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) movements,” said Orhan.

“Turkey can’t depend on National Mobilization Forces that were trained in Bashiqa to defy activities of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) or Popular Mobilization Forces due to lack of experience, absence of international support and insufficient number of soldiers,” added Orhan.

The Turkish expert called on Turkey to increase support to Kurdistan through passing oil exporting pipes through Turkey besides increasing military and political support to strengthen the military capabilities of Peshmerga.

Key RKK insurgent killed in southern Thailand
[Bangkok Post] A key insurgent of the Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK) southern insurgency network was gunned down in a clash with paramilitary rangers in Narathiwat Sunday. Three men have been arrested following the incident.

Rueso district police chief Rueangsak Buadaeng said Ahama Maerao was killed by rangers in a house in tambon Batong. He spoke as he led a team of authorities including forensic scientists, doctors and prosecutors to inspect the house. The inspectors found Ahama lying dead in a pool of blood under a tree behind the house with three gun shot wounds to his back, ribs and torso.

Pasit Chanlekha, head of the 46th Ranger Taskforce, said a team of rangers had tracked the RKK network down in Rueso district three days ago after receiving a tip-off from an intel source. According to the agency, the network of four to six people was hatching a plot to carry out an attack in the district.

A search found suspects hiding on the second floor of the house in Bantamang village. The suspects were on the lookout and opened fire when they saw them approach. Authorities returned fire in an exchange that lasted around 10 minutes in which Ahama was shot and killed, Col. Pasit said. Authorities arrested three men in the incident, he added.

A resident of Narathiwat, Ahama was seen as a key figure in the RKK network and was wanted by Narathiwat and Yala police. The group is thought to have some six members and carries out attacks in those two provinces. It is not kmown how many of those arrested were regular members.

Known wolf convert attacks police officers in Mülheim
[DeutscheWelle] A woman has attacked two coppers with a knife as they entered her apartment in the German city of Mulheim. Authorities found material linked to the so-called "Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
" (IS) within.

The 53-year-old woman attacked the two coppers after they entered her apartment in the western city of Mulheim on Sunday morning.

The coppers were checking in on her after she had allegedly thrown furniture, including a lamp, stools and books, out the window. When she refused to open the door, the officers broke it down.

Once they were inside the apartment, the veiled woman attacked them with a box-cutter while apparently shouting "holy shit! Allahu akbar," or "God is great."

She was overpowered as coppers used pepper spray on her and threatened to use their sidearms. She was lightly maimed during the proceedings and was later taken to a mental facility. It was not clear from initial reports if either of the officers was injured.

Following a search, police said they found flags suggesting ties to the so-called "Islamic State" (IS) group.

A police spokesperson said the woman was a Moslem convert and had been born in the state of Thuringia. She was already familiar to police after a series of earlier incidents linked with Islamic extremism, the spokesperson said without providing further details.

India-Pakistan
4 die along Line of Control shelling
At least four people were killed, including a woman, and six were injured when Indian forces opened fire in different sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday.

Casualties occurred in different villages of Nakyal sector which has been experiencing indiscriminate shelling for the past several days.

“Indian troops have yet again resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control in Nakyal, Jandrot and Kel sectors,” said a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR statement added that Pakistani troops “befittingly responded and targetted Indian posts”.

Jandrot is located in Kotli district while Kel lies in the upper belt of Neelum valley, northeast of Muzaffarabad.

A government official from Nakyal told Dawn that there had been intense shelling since 8am, with Indian troops using both small and heavy arms.

Zeeshan Nisar, assistant commissioner Nakyal, also confirmed that three men and a women were killed by Indian fire.

“Since the shelling is continuing, we are unable to collect all details, I am afraid there might be more casualties,” said Nisar.

“The shelling is so intense that you cannot even imagine. There has been no let up in the shelling since morning,” said Javed Budhanvi, a former AJK minister.

Tense relations
The latest episode of cross-border firing comes as tensions simmer between Pakistan and India over the Kashmir issue.

The Indian prime minister stepped up a drive to isolate Pakistan diplomatically after the Uri army base attack last month.

Hours after the attack occurred, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh termed Pakistan a 'terrorist state'. India also accused Pakistan of involvement in the attack.

The Uri attack occurred days before Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was set to address the United Nations General Assembly regarding Indian human rights violations in held Kashmir.

Following the attack, India claimed to have conducted a cross-border 'surgical strike' against 'launch pads of terror' in Azad Jammu and Kashmir — a claim Pakistan has strongly rejected.

Pakistan maintains that India is attempting to divert the world's attention away from 'atrocities' committed by government forces in India-held Kashmir.

Pakistan and India have locked horns over the Kashmir issue since Indian forces stepped up a crackdown against protesters after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed by government forces in July.

Judge rebukes regime over few admissions for Syrian Christian refugees
[FOX] A federal judge has rebuked the Obama administration over the lack of Syrian Christians being admitted from the war-zone, calling it a "perplexing discrepancy" that only 56 of 11,000 Syrian refugees to the U.S. in fiscal 2016 were Christian.

The rebuke came in a Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals opinion on a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by The Heartland Alliance’s National Immigrant Justice Center ‐ a liberal human rights group that advocates for immigrants and asylum-seekers -- seeking information on certain terror groups.

As first reported by attorney and former FEC member Hans von Spakovsky for The Daily Signal, while the court found in favor of the government, Judge Daniel Manion addressed the refugee issue and took aim at the Obama administration over how few Christians had been admitted to the U.S.

"It is well‐documented that refugees to the United States are not representative of that war‐torn area of the world. Perhaps 10 percent of the population of Syria is Christian, and yet less than one‐half of one percent of Syrian refugees admitted to the United States this year are Christian," he wrote.

According to government figures, of the almost 11,000 Syrian refugees admitted to the United States in fiscal 2016, only 56 were Christian.

Forget the FBI cache; the Podesta emails show how America is run
[Guardian] The emails currently roiling the US presidential campaign are part of some unknown digital collection amassed by the troublesome Anthony Weiner, but if your purpose is to understand the clique of people who dominate Washington today, the emails that really matter are the ones being slowly released by WikiLeaks from the hacked account of Hillary Clinton’s campaign chair John Podesta. They are last week’s scandal in a year running over with scandals, but in truth their significance goes far beyond mere scandal: they are a window into the soul of the Democratic party and into the dreams and thoughts of the class to whom the party answers.

The class to which I refer is not rising in angry protest; they are by and large pretty satisfied, pretty contented. Nobody takes road trips to exotic West Virginia to see what the members of this class looks like or how they live; on the contrary, they are the ones for whom such stories are written. This bunch doesn’t have to make do with a comb-over TV mountebank for a leader; for this class, the choices are always pretty good, and this year they happen to be excellent.

They are the comfortable and well-educated mainstay of our modern Democratic party. They are also the grandees of our national media; the architects of our software; the designers of our streets; the high officials of our banking system; the authors of just about every plan to fix social security or fine-tune the Middle East with precision droning. They are, they think, not a class at all but rather the enlightened ones, the people who must be answered to but who need never explain themselves.

Kenya: Police Arrest Three More Linked to Mandera Massacre
[All Africa] Police in Mandera have locked away
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
three more suspects in connection to last week's terror attack on a lodge that left 12 people killed.

Without revealing the identities of the suspects, County Commissioner Fredrick Shisia on Monday said the three were locals.

"We are catching up with them one after the other since we have enough information of who played what part in the attack," he told Nation.co.ke.

The arrest brings the number of suspects in police custody to five.

Police last week arrested the lodge's caretaker, Mr Abdirahman Ali, and Mr Shisia he was cooperating with Sherlocks.

A Mandera court last week allowed the officers to continue holding Mr Ali as they carry on with their investigations.

AIDING MILITANTS

The county chief said some Mandera residents were aiding forces of Evil who cross from Somalia to carry out attacks against Kenya.

He said some of the suspects were being held in Mandera while others had been moved to Nairobi.

Meanwhile,
...back at the buffalo wallow, Yellow Wolf clutched at his chest and fell from his horse...
33 people were on Monday charged in a Mandera court for disobeying a dusk to dawn curfew imposed on the town.

Charged in groups of three to nine, 28 suspects pleaded guilty and were fined Sh5,000 each or in default serve one month in jail.

Resident Magistrate Duncan Mtai discharged five suspects who pleaded guilty after stating they were unaware of the orders issued by Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery last Thursday.

In total, Mr Shisia said more than 50 people have been arrested for disobeying the curfew.

Afghanistan
70 Taliban now pining for the fjords in Uruzgan
At least 70 Taliban insurgents were allegedly killed in an airstrike targeting the gathering of the group’s fighters in an abandoned army base in southern Uruzgan province.

Provincial governor’s spokesman Dost Mohammad Nayab confirmed the airstrike took place late on Sunday afternoon in Chora district.
He said at least 80 Taliban insurgents were also wounded as they were busy destroying the abandoned army base in the area.

According to the local officials, the Taliban insurgents captured the army base two days ago following a coordianted attack and some security personnel surrendered to Taliban insurgents following the attack.

In the meantime, the Taliban insurgents are claiming that the group’s fighters did not suffer any casualties in the airstrike and some 30 civilians were killed in the attack.

However, the local officials reject the Taliban claims as baseless and said all those killed or wounded in the attack were insurgents.

Uruzgan is among the relatively volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where the Taliban insurgent are actively operating in a number of its remote districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

The provincial police chief of southern Uruzgan province Mohammad Wais Samimi and provincial security chief Abdul Qawi were dismissed from his post after a steep rise in violence in the province last month.

The securty situation of Uruzgan province sharply deteriorated earlier this month after the Taliban militants launched a coordinated attack.

The attack by the Taliban put the key provincial capital on the brink of collapse as the group was close to take its control.

Additional forces were deployed to Uruzgan to push back the Taliban offensive and the provincial police chief of Kandahar General Abdul Raziq visited the province to coordinate operations against the group.

Venezuela president meets Shannon amid start of talks with opposition
[Iran Press TV] US top diplomat Tom Shannon and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro have held a meeting in the capital Caracas.

The adversary countries' officials Monday meeting followed the recent initiation of talks between the government and the opposition in an effort to end the country’s political crisis and economic woes.

According to an earlier statement by the US State Department, Shannon would stay in the South American country until November 2 to "underscore our support for the ongoing dialogue process, and our interest in the well-being of the Venezuelan people."

The 57-year-old was shown on Venezuelan television while shaking hands with Maduro and speaking with other ruling Socialist Party officials in the Miraflores presidential palace.

International mediators, including Vatican envoy Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, as well as others from Spain, Panama and the Dominican Republic were also attending the talks between the government and the opposition.

Since 2014, Venezuela has been grappling with protests against Maduro, who is under fire by his critics amid an economic crisis.

Maduro had formerly accused the opposition of having launched a US-backed economic war against the oil-reach country in an attempt to trigger a coup d’état.

Giuliani: Enough Evidence Now For RICO Case Against Clinton Foundation
[Real Clear Politics] Saturday evening on Fox News Channel's 'Justice with Jeanine Pirro' former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani suggested that a grand jury already has enough evidence, from WikiLeaks and the FBI, to charge "Clinton Incorporated" with racketeering under the RICO laws that were originally designed to go after the mafia.

"I was shocked, back in July," Giuliani said about FBI Director James Comey's recommendation against charges for Clinton. "He laid out almost a prosecutorial memo and then came to a conclusion that he shouldn't come to--that the Justice Department should--that she shouldn't be indicted."

"A special prosecutor should be appointed. A special prosecutor --a non-Republican, non-Democrat-- should redo this whole investigation. And Obama should be requred to promise he is not going to pardon any of these Clinton Incorporated-- I think it's a racketeering enterprise honestly," he said.

"I have a whole bunch of statutes they've violated," he said. "This is racketeering. This is a RICO statute--Clinton, Inc. I think it was one of the WikiLeaks that said this was 'Clinton Inc.' He does the speeches, they put the money in the pocket, she does the favors in the government. It all links up. Why did they destroy 33,000 emails? Because it shows the link."

"Whatever caused this [FBI announcement] is something very serious," he concluded.

Evidently Huma Abedin no longer a 'key and essential employee'
[Free Beacon] Top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin has not been on Clinton’s campaign plane for the last three days, CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin reported Monday.

Baldwin said Abedin was like a "surrogate daughter" to Clinton and that the two are exceptionally close. She then asked CNN correspondent Dana Bash whether she knew why Abedin has not been present on the campaign plane.

"We don’t know exactly why, except I don’t think it would be a bridge too far to have informed speculation that she has now become such a huge part of the story because the only reason why we’re discussing this [email scandal] is because of a computer that her estranged husband allegedly had her emails on it," Bash said.

"So that is no question [a] big part of the reason. Maybe she’s also dealing with her lawyers. We’re just not sure," Bash continued

Bash said that she agreed with Baldwin’s characterization of Abedin as Clinton’s "second daughter."

"I don’t think you can overstate how close these two are and second daughter is just sort of one aspect. I think she’s‐her official role is Hillary Clinton’s right-hand woman, but it’s not just hand: it’s arm, it’s brain, it’s everything," Bash said. "She is the person who thinks what Hillary Clinton is going to think before she thinks it and makes things happen for her, and that’s how close they are and have been for years and years and years."

Abedin was pushed back into the public spotlight on Friday when FBI Director James Comey informed Congress that the bureau had discovered new emails related to Clinton’s previous investigation into her email use as secretary of state. Federal and local law enforcement had been investigating Abedin’s estranged husband and former Congressman Anthony Weiner (D., N.Y.) when they discovered pertinent emails on Weiner’s devices, some of which Abedin used as well, the Washington Free Beacon previously reported.

Federal and local law enforcement officials have been investigating Anthony Weiner since last month over reports that he sent sexually explicit text messages and photos to a 15-year-old girl, which was first revealed by the Daily Mail.

News surfaced Friday afternoon that the FBI would revisit its investigation into Clinton’s email practices.

"In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation," Comey wrote in a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee. "I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation."

Watchdog Alleges Virginia Prepping to Accomodate Mass Voter Fraud
[LIFEZETTE] Virginia has printed 1 million provisional ballots, an unprecedented number that could allow a large number of previously disqualified felons to cast ballots for president in the potentially crucial swing state.

So says Reagan George, the president of the Virginia Voters Alliance.

George, a conservative election watchdog, charged on Monday that the Virginia Department of Elections is overpreparing for worst-case scenarios and increasing the likelihood of illegal votes being cast. In reply to Republican complaints earlier this month, Virginia Department of Elections Commissioner Edgardo Cortés acknowledged officials are preparing for all contingencies, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

(IraqiNews.com) Sulaymaniyah – Asayish Directorate in Sulaymaniyah Province announced on Monday that several terrorist cells belonging to the Islamic State in Sulaymaniyah were planning to launch a number of attacks in order to seize control of governmental organizations in the province and that the forces from the directorate managed to foil these attempts.

The directorate said in a statement, “Asayish of Sulaymaniyah, Garmian and Gharbeya arrested a number of ISIS terrorist cells in Sulaymaniyah, Halbja and Garmian,” noting that, “These terrorist cells were planning to launch several attacks and capture a number of governmental organizations in Sulaymaniyah.”

“More than 40 members of the terrorist cells were arrested, as well as killing a number of ISIS members and seizing equipment, IED and explosives,” the statement added. “The detainees were transferred to a detention center for interrogation,” the statement explained.

Sulaymaniyah is one of the most stable provinces on terms of security, compared with the other provinces in central and south of the country.

Ceasefire in Zawia goes into effect
[LibyaHerald] After four days of bitter fighting between rival forces in Zawia,
...where?
a ceasefire was agreed today to come into effect this evening. Under it all weapons would be removed from the streets.

Mediated by elders from neighbouring towns including Hararat, Sorman and Zintan, there is scepticism, however, whether it will last. There was a ceasefire on Saturday but it never got off the ground.

The fighting is said to have resulted in several casualties but numbers have not been revealed although it is reported that three gunmen from the Ahneish clan were killed today.

At the heart of the conflict is the longstanding bitter feud between the Ahneish and the Khadrawi clans. This, however, has now drawn in their respective tribes, the Bu Hamira and the Awlad Saqr. The latter are larger and stronger and are said to have been gaining the upper hand in the couple of days, forcing the Bu Hamira to withdraw to Omar Muktar and Jamal Abdul Nasser Streets in the centre of the town.

Although the current fighting was initially reported to have been sparked by the murder of three members of the Awad Saqr, the real reason, according to locals (and the reason why they are sceptical about the latest ceasefire), is a struggle over who guards Zawia refinery. At present, it is guarded by the Ahneish but the Awad Saqr are said to want it.

There is, said to be a considerable amount of money to be made from guarding the refinery.

The fighting, though, has brought misery and terror to many ordinary residents in the town.

Zawia Red Crescent yesterday said that that it had managed to evacuate some 40 families from the conflict zone, advising relatives to contact it so that it could get to other families and help them to leave. Others remain trapped.

The Red Crescent has since reported that that some of its staff have themselves come under fire.

Sources in Zawia, though, denied reports that the oil refinery has been affected by the fighting. However, a local reporter told the Libya Herald that thieves were using the clashes to rob a number of shops. A health clinic and a printing house had also been seriously damaged as a result of the fighting, he said.

“A number of Bangladeshi workers have been seen stuck in the area of clashes and we have informed Zawia Red Crescent about them,” the reporter added.

Meanwhile, controversial grand mufti Sadik Al-Ghariani has warned that the chaos in Zawia could provide an opening for Khalifa Hafter to build up support in the town and take it over.

Speaking on his Tanasah TV satellite channel of what he said was the “Hafter project” in the west of Libya, he suggested that Hafter agents were at work in Zawia saying that there were those in the town who were sympathetic to him. If they succeeded in taking over the town, he suggested, Hafter would act without mercy and it would be destroyed like Benghazi.

Criminals, he continued, were already sowing disorder in what had been one of the main centres of the revolution in order to open the road to Tripoli.

Ghariani also used his critique of the situation in Zawia to lambast the Presidency Council (PC) comparing it and the situation in Libya to that to Iraq.

The PC, for its part, yesterday called for a halt to the fighting in Zawia and ordered the interior ministry to carry out an investigation into the causes of the clashes.

UN Special Envoy Maartin Kobler also called for an end to the clashes, saying that fighting in residential areas was particularly unacceptable.

Mosul Offensive News
Iraqi security forces begin their advance towards western Mosul

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Media officials with the Ministry of Defense announced on Monday, that the security forces started to advance toward the west coast of Mosul from three axes.

The officials said in a press statement, “Forces from the Anti-Terrorism Directorate, army’s 9th Armored Brigade, 3rd regiment of 1st brigade and infantry’s 16th brigade started, at dawn today, to advance toward the west coast of the city of Mosul from three axes.”

“The sons of Iraqi Armed Forces are fighting honorably to liberate the west coast of Mosul,” the officials added.

Security forces from the army, al-Hashd al-Watani and Kurdish Peshmerga continue advancing in the liberation battles of Nineveh, backed by the international coalition and Iraqi aviation.

Iraqi security forces continue advance into eastern Mosul

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – The Anti-Terrorism Directorate announced on Monday, that its troops started to advance toward the eastern areas of the city of Mosul.

Anti-Terrorism Forces Commander, Lieutenant General Abdel Wahab al-Saadi, said in a press statement, “Troops of the Anti-Terrorism Directorate started to advance toward the village of Kokjla,” adding that, “This village is considered the first of the western areas of Mosul.”

Earlier today, Iraqi security forces stormed into Hayy al-Karama area, in eastern Mosul, after two weeks of ongoing battles in the surrounding areas against members of the Islamic State.

The liberation battles of Nineveh are ongoing for the fifteenth day on row, while security forces started today to advance toward the west coast of Mosul from three axes.

US air forces bomb ISIS explosive plants in Mosul

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – The US-led international coalition air force bombarded an explosives plant belonging to the Islamic State in central Mosul, Al Sumaria News reported on Monday.

The Iraqi media outlet stated, “Today, international coalition aircraft bombarded a large plant that was used by the ISIS to manufacture explosives and booby traps in al-Okaydat area near a train station in the east coast, in central Mosul.”

“The aerial bombardment resulted in a massive blast,” Al Sumaria added.

Earlier today, Media officials with the Ministry of defense announced, that the security forces start to advance toward the west coast of Mosul from three axes.

From al-Manar
Iraqi special forces neared the eastern city limits of Mosul on Monday, tightening the noose as the offensive to retake the ISIL group stronghold entered its third week.

Forces from the elite Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) faced mortar fire as they pushed from the Christian town of Bartalla towards Mosul’s eastern suburbs, AFP correspondents at the front said.

As an aircraft struck a suspected ISIL mortar position in the distance, a convoy of Humvees sprayed gunfire across the arid plain at an industrial area held by terrorists.

Lieutenant Colonel Muntadhar al-Shimmari said CTS had recaptured Bazwaya, one of two ISIL-held villages that had been standing between Iraqi forces and the eastern edges of Mosul.

“Tonight, if everything is secured, we will be 700 meters (yards) from Mosul,” Shimmari said.

CTS forces had entered the second village, Gogjali, and were battling to retake it, Staff Lieutenant General Abdelwahab al-Saadi, a senior CTS commander, told AFP by telephone.

He denied reports that Iraqi forces had entered the Al-Karama area — about 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) from Gogjali — inside Mosul itself.

Backed by air and ground support from a US-led coalition, tens of thousands of Iraqi fighters are converging on Mosul on different fronts, in the country’s biggest military operation in years.

On the northern and eastern sides of Mosul, the extremist group’s last major bastion in Iraq, peshmerga forces from the autonomous Kurdish region recently took several villages and consolidated their positions.

From Asharq Al-Awsat
Iraq troops made a dashing advance breaking through ISIS defense lines in an eastern suburb of Mosul on Monday, taking the battle for the insurgents’ stronghold into the city limits for the first time, a force commander said.

They made the gain as the U.S.-backed offensive to recapture Mosul — the largest military operation in Iraq since the invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein in 2003 — after two weeks of fighting to clear surrounding areas of insurgents.

Commanders had warned earlier that the battle for the city, the hardline militants’ de facto capital in Iraq, could take weeks and possibly months.

Troops of the Iraqi army’s Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) moved forward on Gogjali, an industrial zone on the eastern outskirts. They then reached Karama district, their first advance into the city itself, an officer said.
“They have entered Mosul,” he said.

“They are fighting now in Hay (district) al-Karama.”

A Reuters correspondent in the village of Bazwaia saw plumes of smoke rising from a built-up area a few kilometres away which a commander said was the result of the clashes in Karama.

A Kurdish peshmerga intelligence source said he received a report saying seven ISIS militants were killed in the Aden district, adjacent to Karama, and two of their vehicles destroyed. Iraqi state television said there were clashes inside the city between residents and ISIS fighters.

The fighting ahead is likely to be more difficult as civilians still live there, unlike most villages taken so far by the Iraqi forces which were emptied of their Christian population.

ISIS singled out religious minorities in northern Iraq, including Christians and Yazidis, for killing and eviction after leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared a caliphate in 2014 over territory they captured there and in neighboring Syria.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan’s dream of neo-Ottoman glory
[DAWN] ON a recent Turkish Airlines flight, I diligently read the two English-language dailies distributed onboard. Both contained many column inches of material castigating Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
, the preacher who heads a vast network of educational and other social welfare institutions in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and abroad. He has been accused by the government of instigating the recent coup attempt that left hundreds dead and designated a terrorist. When the coup fizzled out in the face of civilian opposition, tens of thousands of military personnel were tossed in the clink
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
; close to a hundred thousand civil servants and teachers sacked;
...that's one way to cut an overburdened government payroll...
and scores of media outlets shut down.

Now, Turkey is demanding that the US hand over the runaway. But although a formal extradition request has been submitted, together with a dossier purporting to contain evidence of the holy man’s involvement, American authorities are reluctant to act until a court has scrutinised the documents to ensure that they will hold up in the face of a legal challenge.

While Recep Teyyep Erdogan, the Turkish president, has used the failed coup as an excuse to neuter all opposition, it is his controversial decision to enter the anti- krazed killer Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group campaign aimed at liberating djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
that is most worrying Turkey’s allies. Iraq has protested over the Turkish incursion, and there are growing concerns that the presence of Turkish Sunni troops will exacerbate existing sectarian tensions. As it is, many fear that once the IS is driven out of Mosul, Iraqi troops and Shia militias might clash with the largely Sunni civilians. So the presence of more armed Sunnis from Turkey only adds to these fears.

With Kurdish peshmergas threatening to keep the area they liberate, many experts darkly hint at the possible break-up of the modern Iraqi state into its earlier Ottoman components of Kurdish, Shia and Sunni provinces. Indeed, Erdogan suggested such a possibility when he reminded the crowd at a recent rally in Bursa that "Mosul and Kirkuk were ours in the past". To him, this was a justification for Turkish involvement. He went on to state that the Ottoman Empire had been reduced from 20 million square kilometres to a mere 780,000 that comprise the Turkish state today.

An ethnic factor Erdogan uses to justify his intervention in Iraq and Syria is his stated concern for the welfare of the Turkmen minorities there. He is using their presence to counter the claims of the Kurds to statehood. Specifically, he is seeking to bolster and justify Turkish military presence to neutralise the Kurdish PKK and its Syrian offshoot. Indeed, he has recently invoked the so-called National Pact (or National Oath) to claim legitimacy for Turkish intervention in its southern neighbours. This ’pact’ dates back to 1918 when an armistice was declared between Turkey and the victorious coalition, and was intended to demarcate territory -- including Mosul and areas north of Aleppo -- held by Turkey at the time. But the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne that formally broke up the Ottoman Empire handed Mosul to the newly created state of Iraq, while Turkey agreed to relinquish land around Aleppo to Syria.

This was done at a time when Turkey lay exhausted and defeated after years of warfare. Kemal Ataturk, the creator of modern Turkey, was pragmatic and cautious, realising that his country was in no position to fight to keep territory. Indeed, his policy for years can be summed up thus: "Peace at home; peace abroad." Now, Erdogan is questioning the wisdom of the revered Turkish ’father of the nation’, arguing that a more patriotic leader would have fought harder to retain the borders promised under the National Oath.
Kemal Ataturk was a general before he became a revolutionary; Erdogan Bey "the much beloved" studied business and played semi-pro soccer before becoming a career politician. This may have something to do with their differing opinions on the subject.
Of course Erdogan has to tread carefully while criticising the iconic founder of modern Turkey. Ataturk’s statues and portraits adorn public squares and official buildings across the country, and school textbooks praise him to the skies. And as he enshrined secularism in the new constitution, Erdogan, a conservative Moslem,
has struggled to introduce religion into public life. So by criticising Ataturk’s lack of patriotism, he hopes to undercut his secular ideals. Indeed, this is the major fault line in Turkish politics today.
Sure, but the secular Turks are the ones not having babies, so they won't be arguing for much longer.
As Turkey’s troubles in the region have multiplied, and its long-time American ally has sought to distance itself from Turkish policy towards the Syrian Kurds, Erdogan has sought to normalise ties with Russia, Israel and Egypt.
...each of which is problematic in its own way...
In particular, the Turks are peeved with Washington for its perceived lack of sympathy over the failed coup, and its refusal to hand Gulen over.

The ongoing PKK and IS campaign of terror against Turkey has underlined the high cost of Turkish policies. And while PKK has targeted police and army personnel, IS has been indiscriminate in its attacks. The result has been a steep fall in the number of tourists visiting Turkey, with an accompanying decline in revenue.

While these can be seen as short-term problems that can be overcome, the real worry is about Turkey’s political trajectory. More and more, Erdogan sees himself as an Ottoman pasha master of all he surveys from his garish new 1,000-room palace in Ankara. His increasingly authoritarian pronouncements do not chime with the demands of a modern democracy. With virtually all independent media outlets silenced, and the judiciary under threat, there is virtually no check on Erdogan’s power. And with ongoing discussions to hold a referendum on giving him even greater authority under an executive presidential system, Turkish democrats fear the worst.

Once viewed as a potential member of the EU and an inspiration to Moslem nations struggling to evolve into democracies, Turkey is increasingly being seen as a country regressing towards autocracy. Sadly, Erdogan is doing everything he can to reinforce this impression.

8 SIMI activists killed in encounter after jail break
[Daily Excelsior] Eight SIMI activists were today killed in an alleged encounter with police on the outskirts of the city hours after they beat feet from the high-security Bhopal Central Jail killing a security guard but questions cropped up over the encounter.

As a controversy raged over the police action after the daring pre-dawn jail-break, TV channels showed footage purportedly from the encounter site in which a policeman is seen pumping bullets into a man from close range after some unidentified person takes out what appears to be a knife said to be in a plastic cover and places it back.

The activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India(SIMI), two of whom were involved in a similar jail- break in Khandwa three years ago, managed to escape around 2-3 AM after killing a jail security guard by scaling the prison wall with the help of bed sheets, DIG Bhopal Raman Singh said.

Acting on the leads provided by locals, the undertrials were tracked down to Malikheda where they were encircled and killed when they tried to challenge the police, a police official said.

All the eight activists were killed by Bhopal Police at Malikheda on the city outskirts, Home Minister Bhupendra Singh said.

The eight activists were identified as Amzad, Zakir Hussain Sadiq, Mohammad Salik, Mujeeb Sheikh, Mehbood Guddu, Mohammad Kalid Ahmed, Aqeel and Majid, a police official said.

The National Investigation Agency(NIA) will probe the jail-break even as contradictions surfaced on the encounter. The Jail Superintendent was among four officials suspended by the Madhya Pradesh Government.

IG Yogesh Choudhary said the fleeing SIMI activists had weapons in their possession and opened fire when confronted and the police fired in retaliation, in comments that appeared to contradict the Home Minister’s statement.

Bhupendra Singh said the undertrials used spoons and plates they carried from the prison as weapons to attack the security personnel. Asked for his comments on the TV footage that appeared to contradcit encounter theory, he maintained that it was an encounter and police had no option but to eliminate them.

At a brief media interaction, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the jail-break would be probed by the NIA but parried a question on the encounter. He said the State Government will also carry out a separate investigation into the matter.

Soon after the incident, the State Government released the sketches of the eight activists and suspended four officials including Jail Superintendent Akhilesh Tomar. The government also announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh each on the heads of the activists.

"We have taken a decision to suspend MP Prison Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Bhopal Central Jail Superintendent, Deputy Jail Superintendent and Assistant Jail Superintendent," Chouhan added.

Holding that the statements of the IG and the Home Minister were contradictory, opposition Congress demanded a judicial probe into the encounter.

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi demanded a Supreme Court- monitored probe and raised questions on the encounter.

Owaisi said a probe by NIA is not enough, as it would be in the interest of justice that an Apex Court-monitored probe is ordered. He also doubted NIA’s credibility because of the way it had "behaved" in the Malegaon blasts case.

Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath said, "SIMI activists have beat feet from the jail which is a high security prison, and within few hours they have not only been traced but killed. Now they can’t be questioned, there is no evidence, their statements cannot be recorded.

Africa Subsaharan
Zimbabwe: General's Corruption Warning Invites Scorn
[All Africa] Top Zim-bob-we National Army (ZNA) commander Major General Douglas Nyikayaramba's call to the government to deal decisively with corruption, especially by bigwigs, has been met with scorn amid charges that the securocrats have no moral authority to pontificate about graft.

Nyikayaramba, the ZNA's chief of staff (administration), told Parliament last week that corruption had become a threat to national security.

The military -- known for its uncompromising support for President Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Octogenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case...
and Zanu PF -- has been fingered in illicit deals including diamond smuggling stretching back to the civil war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
Nyikayaramba demanded the arrest of those implicated in corruption cases in a pointed attack on Higher Education minister Jonathan Moyo.

Moyo and his deputy Godfrey Gandawa are being investigated by the Zim-bob-we Anti-Corruption Commission over the alleged abuse of over $400 000 drawn from the Zim-bob-we Manpower Development Fund.

Analysts said while Nyikayaramba's calls were welcome, the army general and other securocrats "must look at themselves in the mirror".

University of Zim-bob-we political scientist Eldred Masunungure said indications were that even Mugabe did not have a clue on what the army was doing at the Marange diamond fields.

"In terms of reports that are circulating, the activities of the military in the Marange diamond fields up to the point of dissolution of the companies were not above board," he said.

"There is evidence that the military was heavily involved in the extraction of resources legally and probably illegally.

"The army was central to two or three companies and there are allegations of corruption and looting.

"It goes without saying that the military was involved.

"Mugabe's supposition that at least $15 billion was spirited out of the country also implicates the military.

"The tragedy is that we have very little information and the fact that even the president is in the dark, makes it even more worrisome,"

However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
Masunungure said Nyikayaramba was correct in saying that corruption could distabilise the government.

"Nyikayaramba is right on the mark when it comes to his diagnosis of the people's anger," he said.

"Zim-bob-weans are angry and the anger stems from a hungry people.

"As they say, a hungry man is an angry man; there is a likelihood of an uncontrolled kaboom of public discontent that Nyikayaramba has obviously foreseen and hence his warning.

Terror Networks
The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi and Syrian Edtions

ISIS executes 500 in northern Mosul
Why use ammo on your blood enemies when you can use them on the unarmed?
(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Member of Nineveh Provincial Council, Hossam al-Din al-Abbar, announced, that the Islamic state executed 300 civilians and former security members, north of Mosul.

Abbar said in a press statement, “Today, ISIS members executed 300 persons for collaborating with security forces,” pointing out that, “The ISIS was detaining them in its prisons, and then executed them by firing squad in Moshairefa village, north of Mosul.”

“ISIS filmed the execution after the so-called Sharia Court issued the death sentence in Wilayet Nineveh,” Abbar added.

The ISIS executed thousands of Mosul residents after capturing the city in June 2014, on different charges, especially for collaborating with the security forces.

ISIS executes 50 of its own after battle
That'll show 'em who's boss!
(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Iraqi media outlets reported on Monday, that the Islamic State slaughtered 50 of its militants at one of its camps, west of Nineveh, for fleeing the ongoing battles.

Al Sumaria News stated, “The so-called ISIS Sharia Court issued a sentence to slaughter 50 militants belonging to the ISIS on charges of apostasy, after fleeing the ongoing battles in the province,” pointing out that, “The execution took place at al-Ghazlani Camp, west of Nineveh.”

“The slaughtered militants were forced to join the ranks of ISIS in Nineveh,” Al Sumaria explained. “The ISIS are urging the people of Nineveh to join the battles against Iraqi forces through speeches at mosques,” Al Sumaria added.

The joint security forces tightened its grip on the ISIS inside Nineveh, after significantly advancing in the battles that were launched to liberate the province.

ISIS no longer refers to Mosul as the Kapital of the Kaliphate

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – ISIS had suddenly ceased referring to Mosul as the capital of its caliphate through its news media outlets to possibly influence public perceptions about the imminent liberation of Mosul according to the Iraqi satellite TV network, Al Sumaria.

Al Sumaria stated, “A sudden change occurred to ISIS mass media inside the city of Mosul through statements that the city is not the capital of the caliphate, contrary to the ideology followed by ISIS since 2014, that Mosul is the capital of its caliphate.”

“The mass speech of ISIS started to focus on word taboo, saying that the fall of Mosul is not the end of the battle, by listing comparable situations in Islamic history how Muslims suffered many losses before achieving grand victories,” Al Sumaria added.

The Iraqi media outlet also explained that the significant changes in the speech of the Islamic State were made, in order to prepare the public opinion for the near liberation of the city of Mosul by the joint security forces and raise the morale of its fighters and supporters in the remaining strongholds of the group whether in Anbar of Salahuddin.

ISIS mullahs in Syria beat locals for smokin' and jokin'

[ARA News] Damascus – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) have publicly flogged a group of civilians south of the Syrian capital Damascus on charges of smoking and drinking alcohol, activists and eyewitnesses reported on Monday.

Members of the ISIS-led Islamic Police, also known as Diwan al-Hisba, arrested several people in the Yarmouk District in the southern suburb of Damascus, on charges of violating the ISIS regulations.

“The arrest campaign targeted smokers and alcohol drinkers,” local media activist Wassim Doughmush told ARA News.

“At least seven people were punished in public for violating the Islamic State’s regulations,” the source said.

Eyewitnesses reported that ISIS militants flogged every arrestee with 50 lashes each.

“Hundreds of people witnessed the punishment in central Yarmouk,” an eyewitness told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.

ISIS militants have also burned a pile of cigarette packs and smashed several alcohol bottles in public.

“The group has also executed two men in Yarmouk on charges of selling cigarettes and alcohol,” Doughmush reported.

Invading Damascus, Imposing Sharia Law
Last week, the Islamic State (ISIS) threatened to invade Damascus, Syria’s capital city. ISIS said that their invasion was imminent and vowed to strike at Syrian security forces and the armed opposition.

“Fighters of the Caliphate are preparing to enter the heart of al-Sham [Damascus],” the extremist group said in a statement. In the same statement, ISIS promised to apply the Islamic State’s puritanical interpretation of Sharia law throughout the capital.

ISIS has been in control of a residential block in southern Damascus since it drove out al-Qaeda-splinter group Jabhat Fateh al-Sham and allied rebel factions, in April 2015. Jahbat Fateh al-Sham was previously known as Jabhat al-Nusra.

Al-Hajar al-Aswad neighbourhood is believed to be the Islamic State’s primary staging area. Their militants also control the nearby Yarmouk and Tadamun districts.

ISIS has accused the rebel groups in Damascus of working on behalf of Assad’s government and being apostates. “The time has come for the Caliphate’s fighters to take al-Sham [Damascus] from the infidels and their mercenaries,” the extremist group said.

Syrian journalist Mustafa Abde told ARA News that ISIS would likely try to open new fronts in southern Syria to direct attention from northern Iraq, where the group is hemorrhaging.

Abde argued that: “This announcement comes after the group started to lose ground in Iraq amid deteriorating morale among its militants. ISIS is seeking new so-called victories to regain its reputation as a strong organisation.”

Bangladesh
‘Gulshan attack rifles were made in West Bengal’
[Dhaka Tribune] The assault rifles used in the terror attack on Gulshan’s Holey Artisan Bakery were made in West Bengal with the help of Pak gunsmiths, said a terrorist locked away
Please don't kill me!
by Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata police.

The terrorist, one of the six who were arrested in September in connection with Khagragarh kaboom, made the confession to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India, the Times of India reported on Saturday.

The deadly terror attack left 23 people dead, including two coppers and 17 foreigners. The five faceless myrmidons were also killed during the rescue operation.

Earlier, Sherlocks of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit of Bangladesh Police said they had learnt that the rifles entered Bangladesh through the Indian border, and they notified the NIA in this regard.

"We learnt this during our investigation of Gulshan attack. Now we will communicate with the NIA before we decide on our next steps regarding the investigation," CTTC chief Monirul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune on Saturday.

According to the arrested terrorist, Pak tribal gunsmiths clandestinely visited Malda district of West Bengal to train gunsmiths from Munger, who set up base in the border district to make AK-22 assault rifles. These weapons were then smuggled into Bangladesh via Chapainawabganj.

NIA Sherlocks suspect that the Paks who conducted the training were from the Darra Adam Khel community that resides in a village located between Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
and Kohat. The community is believed to regularly help the Taliban in duplicating modern weapons.

"We are not sure yet, but the language they mentioned is spoken in and around the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
province of Pakistain where the village is located," a senior NIA officer said.

If expert gunsmiths did come from Darra Adam Khel to train men in Malda, investigation agencies have reasons to worry. These Pak tribals can copy nearly any weapon ‐ from pen pistols and hand-grenades to automatic rifles and anti-aircraft guns. Darra gunsmiths are said to have the ability to duplicate any new rifle within 10 days.

Earlier, CTTC chief Monirul categorically mentioned Munger in connection with the rifles, which prompted Bihar police to launch an investigation into the matter, the Times of India reported.

"The Bihar police in a communique to Bengal police has confirmed that the arms manufacturers and smugglers had set up units in Malda and other places in Bengal," said an STF officer.

Nigeria: Organisers Dissociate Self From Miss Anambra Over Sex Tape
[All Africa] The management of Anambra Broadcasting Service, organisers of the Miss Anambra Beauty Pageant, have dissociated themselves from the alleged lurid content in circulation.

They made this made known in a statement issued on the ABS website on Thursday.

According to the release, the leaked sex tape video purportedly showing Chidinma Okeke, who was Miss Anambra 2015, engaging in lesbian sex with a female partner is an embarrassment to the esteemed brand.

Consequently, they said, Ms. Okeke has automatically served-out her term as Miss Anambra 2015 and handed over the crown in line with the terms and conditions of The Miss Anambra pageant to a new queen.

"We condemn in clear terms any amoral behaviour/ conduct as suggested by the alleged lurid content in circulation and do not condone such. It is on record that The Miss Anambra Beauty Pageant has been a platform to empower Anambra women and celebrate our rich culture and heritage. Winners of the pageant are bound to contracts to be of good conduct and moral behaviour and to uphold/maintain the honour in their position as queen.

"Winners of the pageant also contract to refrain from any personal relationship that could appear to hinder their ability to perform the duties of their office as queen and role model and we do not expect any less. We therefore wish to dissociate The Miss Anambra pageant from any discussions on the said allegations. We feel sufficiently perturbed by the mere reference already made to the pageant and hereby state that we are in no way connected to the controversy," the statement read.

In conclusion, they added, " We apologize to the government and good people of Anambra State, our sponsors, supporters, friends and all those associated with the Miss Anambra project for the embarrassment the mere reference to the pageant in the controversy may have caused; whilst reassuring of the good intentions of the Miss Anambra pageant franchise."

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, Odius Sepulcher called for war against the Visigoths...
the embattled ex-beauty queen has alleged a threat to her life for wanting to unravel the mystery behind her dethronement.

The ousted queen revealed that she had initially called for a presser on Thursday to unravel the circumstances surrounding her predicament.

This is according to a post on her Facebook account, which has since been deleted.

Ms. Okeke has also disabled comments on her Facebook account.

The post read, "Good morning all. This is Chidinma Okeke, Miss Anambra 2015, considering the need to make the world know the truth about the trending scandal and what we have been going through before, then and now I decided to address a world presser at the NUJ press centre Awka today.

But from the moment I made public this intention I have been under siege of threats by my blackmailers. They are seriously threatening to shoot me at the presser if I ever open my mouth to say real truth about the ugly episode. My life is under serious threat if they succeed in killing me today the world already know my traducers the truth is unearthed."

Hmm.

Well, if she's out as Miss Anambra, she should easily be able to pick up a gig writing scam emails.

China-Japan-Koreas
Fears for Kim Jong Un's wife after she vanishes from public
[NYPost] Fears are growing for the safety of North Korea's first lady, who has vanished from public view for the past seven months.
Cut the crap already. We all know that Kim Jong Nom ate her.
Ri Sol-ju is thought to have tied the knot with her food-loving fella Kim Jong Un in 2009 and soon after she gave birth to his child and heir to the hermit state.

Sporting designer clothes and pricey handbags, she has since appeared alongside her hubby as he tours factories and theme parks.

But now the slim and attractive spouse has vanished from public view after last being seen at a sporting event in March.
Right after Kim was heard to roar "Bring me a snack!"
North Korea observers fear she could have fallen foul of her despotic husband or incurred the wrath of his equally menacing sister, Kim Yo Jong.
Fear? Really? That bi+ch had his ex-girlfriend executed. She probably ate her liver.
Experts believe Yo Jong is the power behind the throne and is even more deadly than her brother.
Not when he's hungry, of course.
One North Korea watcher told Yonhap News Agency: "Ri showed up at public events every two months last year but has not appeared in public for over seven months this year.
Check the refrigerator.
"That's quite extraordinary.
You're right. Being that skinny, she couldn't have survived that long around His Rotunditude's appetite even with refrigeration.
"Some sources speculate Ri's disappearance may be linked to a check on her activities by Kim's younger sister Kim Yo Jong."
She probably sneaked down to the refrigerator one night and deprived him of a slice of his birthday cake.
Concern is also mounting for Kim's wife because of the gruesome fate of people who cross the loony leader.
Or glance at his dinner.
In August, it emerged he had executed one of North Korea's top officials with an anti-aircraft gun after the man fell asleep in a meeting.
Note to self: Don't do that again.
In December 2013, North Korean state media announced the execution of Jang Sung-taek, the uncle by marriage of Kim Jong Un.
By feeding him to the dogs. Which gave Kim an idea . . . .
According to a South Korean newspaper, Jang's nephew, O Sang-hon, was also executed by being burned alive with a flame thrower.
In Kim's inner circle it's called a barbeque.
In 2007, a factory chief convicted of making international phone calls was executed by firing squad in front of a crowd of 150,000.
Trying to order some A-1 sauce because they couldn't figure out how to make it?
It's reported that six people were killed in the rush as spectators left the stadium that hosted the execution.
Bonus!
North Korean craziness knows no ends -- as a satellite image of one of Kim's motorways proves. As revealed by Sun Online, a £200 million ($243 million), 3-kilometer (1.8-mile) bridge from the Chinese border city of Dandong ends suddenly when it reaches the North Korean side -- proving the nutty nation really is a dead end.
Sorry, Kimmie thought it was cake.

India-Pakistan
Attack on majlis
[DAWN] AS the state scrambles to contain the menace of sectarian militancy, the faceless myrmidons have resorted to using novel methods, and increasingly hitting ’soft’ targets. Mass-casualty attacks have thankfully been averted this Muharram -- thanks largely to the multilayer security cordon around mosques, imambargahs and mourning processions. Perhaps in reaction, gunnies have decided to go low-tech. On Saturday night, suspects on a cycle of violence tried to barge into a women’s majlis in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
’s Nazimabad area. Unable to enter the house where the event was being held, the gunnies took aim at people gathered outside; at least five people have been confirmed dead in the attack. This was the fourth sectarian attack during Muharram in Karachi. In earlier attacks also, people were shot outside their homes, while an IED was lobbed at a women’s majlis inside an imambargah. Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
al-Alami, an offshoot of the dreaded sectarian outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, has grabbed credit for the Nazimabad attack. During the months of Muharram and Safar, countless religious gatherings take place across the country. While the major mosques and imambargahs are relatively easy to protect, securing majalis inside homes -- estimated to run into the thousands by police officials -- is a very difficult task.

While more intelligence-based operations are needed to bust krazed killer cells seeking to spread terror, a much bigger challenge stares the state in the face if it wishes to end sectarian bloodshed: confronting the ideological forces that provide oxygen to sectarian militancy. For several decades, the state looked the other way as jihadi and sectarian gangs spread their wings and became entrenched in society. Now, uprooting these groups is proving a formidable task. But it is pertinent to ask how hard the state is trying. While notorious sectarian killers have been eliminated in ’encounters’ and attempts have been made to limit the movement of rabble-rousing preachers, especially during sensitive religious periods, the fact is that overall, sectarian groups in Pakistain still have considerable liberty to operate. For example, last Friday, when the state was unleashing its might against political protesters in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the ASWJ, a banned sectarian outfit, was able to hold a rally in the federal capital unhindered, in defiance of Section 144. Some days earlier, the leader of this outfit had met the interior minister as part of a Difa-e-Pakistain Council delegation. If the state is serious about implementing NAP and eliminating sectarian terrorism from Pakistain, it must confront these glaring contradictions.

Bangladesh
200 sued for vandalising temples in Habiganj
[Dhaka Tribune] A case has been filed against 200 unnamed people for allegedly vandalising two temples in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district.
That's by Lake Habiganj, where all the Moslems are above average.
Madhabpur SI Gias Uddin filed the case against 200 unnamed people on Monday afternoon.

Locals said some youths vandalised the temples at Madhabpur Bazar on Sunday when another youth from Haripur published pictures criticising Islam on social networking site Facebook.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
no one was detained in this connection.

While visiting the spot, local MP Mahbubur Alam said: "No one will be spared."

Madhabpur OC Moktadir Alam said: "Legal action will be taken against the culprits after investigation."
Al Ahram says what the Dhaka Tribune leaves unsaid:
Hundreds attack Hindu homes, temples in Bangladesh

Hundreds of Moslems in eastern Bangladesh angry about a social media post launched a wave of attacks against Hindu temples and homes in a rare convulsion of communal violence in the region, Bangladeshi police said Monday.
Police incarcerated
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
15 people suspected of taking part in the violence, which erupted over a social media post depicting the Hindu god Shiva over a picture of the Kaaba, the large cube-shaped building in Mecca that is considered one of the holiest places in Islam.

As news of the post spread through neighborhoods in Moslem-majority Bangladesh, hundreds of people rampaged for two hours Sunday through Hindu communities east of Dhaka, the capital, said senior regional police officer Abdul Karim.

Police said 100 homes and five Hindu temples were looted. Some rioters apprehended a 27-year-old man they suspected of posting the offensive picture, but police have yet to determine if he posted it.

"We are working on it," Karim said.

Police reinforcements and members of Bangladesh's paramilitary border guard have been deployed in the area, around 150 kilometers (94 miles) east of Dhaka.

Such cases of vandalism and civic unrest between religious communities in Bangladesh are considered uncommon, though the country is struggling to stem a wave of violence by radical Islamist faceless myrmidons targeting religious minorities and atheists.

India-Pakistan
Between the devil & deep state
[DAWN] THE devil’s disciples have descended on Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
with full force this year, their evil machinations on naked display in the gory games being played within the region’s strategic depths. While an emerging Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) Lion of Islam group has grabbed credit for the recent assault on a police academy in Quetta, security officials believe that Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
al-Alami (LJ-A) executed the carnage.

In a series of terror attacks -- including the targeting of Quetta’s Civil Hospital on Aug 9, which killed at least 70 lawyers -- there is increasing evidence that banned Lion of Islam outfits are not only emerging with new names, but are also expanding their scope of activities from sectarian attacks to targeting state institutions in a cross-border rage.

These are ominous developments. Balochistan finds itself caught between the terrorist devils unleashed by dark elements of deep states within the region, their tentacles spreading far and wide. Our intelligence sleuths are convinced that those responsible for Quetta’s mayhem were sponsored and steered by the hostile intelligence agencies of some neighbouring countries. According to security officials investigating these attacks, local Lion of Islam groups -- especially Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) and its offshoot LJ-A, along with Jamaatul Ahrar
...A Pak Taliban splinter group that split off from the Mullah Fazlullah faction because it wasn't violent enough...
-- have developed a nexus with IS criminal masterminds in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province. Over the last five months, Uzbek, Tajik and Afghan nationals have been inducted as part of an orchestrated terror campaign.

Let us examine the resurgence of LJ under the new brand of LJ-A. One of the deadliest sectarian Lion of Islam outfits, it is affiliated with both the TTP and Al Qaeda. As part of a drive against banned outfits as stipulated in the National Action Plan, it was claimed that LJ stood completely eliminated following a police ’encounter’ in Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

on July 29, 2015, in which chief of the defunct outfit, Malik Ishaq, was killed along with four other key leaders. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
the lethal organization made its presence felt when it hit back just over two weeks later when a jacket wallah targeted and killed Punjab’s home minister, Shuja Khanzada.

The LJ-A came to notice soon after 9/11 by establishing a presence in Afghanistan with assistance from the Afghan Taliban and Al Qaeda. It was founded by Abid Mehsud, who hailed from South Wazoo. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
it retained contact with LJ; the distinction was that one exclusively targeted Shias while the other hit security agencies and government installations. Reportedly, it was LJ-A that was responsible for kidnapping and killing two Pak intelligence officers. That incident is said to have resulted in the killing of Abid Mehsud in October 2010 at the behest of the then emir of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain Hakeemullah Mehsud. His next in command, Yahya Afridi, was also killed with four companions in Kurram Agency
...home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism, where the laws of cause and effect are assumed to be suspended, conveniently located adjacent to Tora Bora...
. Shaukat Mehsud became the new commander. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
due to the military operation in South Waziristan, the group went underground and lay dormant for quite some time.

This year, LJ-A became active again under the runaway Syed Safdar (alias Yousaf Khorasani) from Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
. Suicide attacks on security forces have intensified. The Lion of Islam outfit was the prime suspect in the Karachi Nishtar Park attack. It has footprints all over the targeting of Quetta’s legal community, as was evident from its front man’s belligerent statements blaming security agencies for targeting their commander’s family in Karachi. There were clear signs that the group was planning for bigger, more lethal attacks -- and then the police academy attack occurred. Our state agencies were, yet again, caught napping.

While the devil’s disciples are known by our security agencies, it is the primary responsibility of all the state’s stakeholders to ensure that we are not mired in these games. We should instead address internal security fault lines. I agree with ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan when he asked the government to reconsider its internal and foreign policies so that similar attacks can "at least be reduced if not entirely eliminated". He also added that "a peaceful Pakistain is impossible without a peaceful Afghanistan". The Iranian Supreme National Security Council’s secretary also denounced the Quetta carnage as "a sign of unbridled growth of terrorism and extremism across the region".

The helplessness of Balochistan’s government is evident from the statement given by its home secretary before a parliamentary committee: "Balochistan has become a cocktail of insurgencies, religious extremism and other criminal activities. We cannot hide that the system has failed..."

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
the remedy sought is through draconian administrative pre-1958 powers under the Frontier Crimes Regulation to combat terrorism and organised crime in the province. It would be yet another recipe for failure as the provincial administration laments its lack of legal powers in a ’war zone’.

It is unfortunate that a sound legislative framework established by Police Order, 2002 -- along with extending the writ of the state in the entire province by replacing ineffective levies with a well-trained, fully equipped police force, established in all 30 districts on Aug 14, 2007-- was frittered away at the altar of expediency by tribal political chiefs and a scheming, power-hungry bureaucracy. The resultant void in the absence of a well-oiled law-enforcement machinery has seen sectarian and Lion of Islam outfits proliferate in lawless regions of the vast province. Civil armed forces and military cannot be a substitute for a long-term and enduring law-enforcement framework.

Meanwhile,
...back at the laboratory, Igor and Oleg were discussing what the quickest way might be to deal with the monster...
the police is marginalised and demoralised, with restricted jurisdiction and lack of political will to enhance its effectiveness through professional capacity-building, and expansion and allocation of resources. Its vulnerability was further exposed on proving such a soft target for the terrorists.

Merely suspending the academy’s commandant and deputies cannot absolve the provincial police command and the government of criminal negligence for failure to protect a facility that had been attacked twice before. Who is responsible for the loss of 63 precious lives and over 160 injured in this morale-sapping atrocity? One expected the provincial police chief to accept responsibility for the glaring security lapse, and the insensitivity shown in not appropriately dispatching bodies of the fallen to their final resting places. Making scapegoats of junior minions clearly erodes the leader’s moral authority.

Pakistain has the dubious distinction of being one of the 10 most lawless countries according to the World Justice Project’s 2016 Rule of Law Index. Our companions are Venezuela, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Egypt, Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
, Zim-bob-we, Æthiopia, Uganda and Bolivia. Is this the hall of shame we are comfortable occupying?

CNN Formally Severs Ties With Donna Brazile
"But we're totes comfortable with a democratic political operative as a journalist."
CNN has formally severed ties with commentator Donna Brazile, a spokesman confirmed to Mediaite Monday.
Thankfully there was no threat of sullying the reputation of CNN in all of this.
CNN and ABC News had both suspended Brazile after she was tapped to serve as acting DNC head following the resignation of Debbie Wasserman Schultz. In theory, that arrangement was only temporary, but CNN made it permanent as late as two weeks ago in the wake of hacked emails showing she provided questions in advance to the Hillary Clinton campaign.

“On October 14th, CNN accepted Donna Brazile’s resignation as a CNN contributor,” said CNN spokesman Lauren Pratapas in a statement.

“CNN never gave Brazile access to any questions, prep material, attendee list, background information or meetings in advance of a town hall or debate,” she added. “We are completely uncomfortable with what we have learned about her interactions with the Clinton campaign while she was a CNN contributor.”
"And we never, ever, imagined that she could do such a thing. Honest."
Brazile herself seemingly publicized the split on Twitter.

On Monday, a new email released by WikiLeaks showed Brazile informing the Clinton campaign that the March 6 CNN Democratic debate would feature a question from a Flint resident suffering from the city’s water crisis. A CNN source tells Mediaite on background that Brazile was not provided the debate question by the network, saying that Brazile was spotting chatting with the woman at an earlier event in which CNN personalities provided Flint residents with free water.

Palestinian cop wounds 3 IDF soldiers in a shooting attack, is shot dead
[IsraelTimes] Three Israeli soldiers were maimed, one of them seriously, in a shooting attack when a Paleostinian police officer opened fire on them at a checkpoint outside the West Bank city of Ramallah on Monday, officials said.

The gunman approached the Focus checkpoint, near the Jewish settlement of Beit El, and opened fire with an AK-47 assault rifle at the troops stationed there, the army said.

"The force responded [to the attack] with return fire at the terrorist," the army said.

The assailant was shot and killed by Israeli forces, an IDF spokesperson said.

The gunman was named as Muhammad Turkman, a police officer from Qabatiya, by both the official Paleostinian Authority news outlet al-Hayat al-Jadida and Maj. Gen. Yoav Mordechai, the Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories.

The three soldiers were all approximately 20 years old and sustained "penetrating wounds" -- meaning gunshot injuries -- to the extremities, according to the Magen David Adom ambulance service. One was seriously maimed in the attack, while two others sustained light injuries from shrapnel, MDA said. The seriously injured soldier was taken to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus for treatment.

According to the PA outlet’s report, Turkman served in a "special forces unit." A photograph of the police officer, sitting next to an AK-47, quickly began circulating around Paleostinian social media after the attack.

In a statement, the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terrorist organization lauded the attack and encouraged other members of the Paleostinian security services to carry out similar attacks.

While relatively uncommon, members of the Paleostinian security forces have carried out attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians over the past year. In January, another member of the PA security forces, Amjad Sakari, 35, also shot up a group of soldiers manning the Focus checkpoint, injuring three of them before he too was shot and killed. Some two weeks later, a Paleostinian police officer, along with a companion, shot up a group of Border Police officers at the Damascus Gate. No Israelis were maimed in the attack, while both assailants were rubbed out in the ensuing shootout with border guards.

8 arrested in East Jerusalem for rioting, hurling firebombs

in East Jerusalem on suspicion of taking part in riots and throwing stones and Molotov cocktails. The eight, including three minors, are detained in raids in the Silwan and A-Tur neighborhoods.

Police say the arrests will continue as long as there are efforts to attack members of the security forces.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
'Norway will suffer': Russia makes nuclear threat over US Marines
[TheLocal.no]. A key Russian defence figure says the deployment of US Marines at Værnes is part of a US buildup to go on a "global blitz" and warned that Norway may make itself a target for a potential nuclear attack.

Frants Klintsevitsj, a deputy chairman of Russia’s defence and security committee, told TV2 that Russia views the presence of 330 Marines in Norway as a direct military threat that demands a reaction.

Klintsevitsj, considered one of Russia’s most influential defence politicians, said that Norway may now be added to "the list of targets for our strategic weapons".

"This is very dangerous for Norway and Norwegians," he said.

"How should we react to this? We have never before had Norway on the list of targets for our strategic weapons. But if this develops, Norway’s population will suffer," he warned.

"Because we need to react against definitive military threats. And we have things to react to, I might as well tell it like it is," Klintsevitsj added.

Russia has on several occasions criticized the plans to deploy 330 US troops at Værnes. Norway’s defence minister, Ine Eriksen Søreide, has rejected those criticisms and insisted that the deployment does not constitute a US military base but is rather a test run that will be evaluated during 2017.

"There is no objective reason for the Russians to react to this. But the Russians are reacting at the moment in the same way toward almost everything the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...
countries are doing," Søreide said.

Before joining NATO in 1949, Norway allayed Russian fears by pledging not to open its territory to foreign combat troops so long as Norway was not attacked or threatened with attack.

Norway's government argues that NATO troops are already training regularly in the country and that the deployment of troops does not equate to the opening of a permanent American base.

The US already has vast amounts of military equipment positioned in Norway -- notably in tunnels dug into mountains -- but no troops.

Klintsevitsj’s remarks bring to mind similar Russian comments made about Norway’s neighbour to the south, Denmark.

In March 2015, Russia's ambassador to Denmark warned that Danish ships will become Russian targets if Denmark joins NATO's missile defence system.

"I don’t think the Danes fully understand the consequences of what will happen if Denmark joins the American-controlled missile defence. If it happens, Danish war ships will become targets for Russian atomic missiles," Mikhail Vanin wrote in an opinion piece published by Jyllands-Posten.
