Senate Republicans passed legislation early Saturday allowing oil and gas drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as part of a tax reform package, moving closer to fulfilling a long-time GOP goal.
The passage of the bill marked a significant achievement for Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, the chairwoman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, who has introduced legislation to open a portion of the Alaskan refuge to drilling every term she has served in the chamber, only to be blocked by Democrats.
"This small package offers a tremendous opportunity for Alaska, for the Gulf Coast, and for all of our nation," Murkowski said before the vote. "We have authorized responsible energy development in the 1002 area." Not to mention another nail in the coffin of Muslim aspirations

ABC issued an embarrassing correction Friday night after a report by Brian Ross caused a panic in the stock market and set Twitter on fire with thousands of retweets. Ross originally reported that candidate Trump had directed Michael Flynn to contact the Russians during the campaign. ABC later clarified that Trump made the call during the transition.
There is a monumental difference between Trump directing Flynn to contact the Russians during the campaign -- which has obvious {{{Russia collusion}}} implications -- and after the election, which is standard procedure. Transition officials are expected to reach out to foreign governments during the lame duck period before the new president takes office.
[WIKI] The division pushed toward the Saar on 25 November and entered Germany on the 28th. The 95th seized a Saar River bridge on 3 December and engaged in bitter house-to-house fighting for Saarlautern.[12] Suburbs of the city fell and, although the enemy resisted fiercely, the Saar bridgehead was firmly established by 19 December. While some units went to an assembly area, others held the area against strong German attacks.[12] On 2 February 1945, the division began moving to the Maastricht area in the Netherlands, and by 14 February, elements were in the line near Meerselo in relief of British units.[12] During this time the division returned to the Ninth Army under XIX Corps, though saw temporary assignments to several other corps through the spring.[11]
On 23 February, the division was relieved, and the 95th assembled near Julich, Germany, on 1 March. It forced the enemy into a pocket near the Hitler Bridge at Uerdingen and cleared the pocket on 5 March, while elements advanced to the Rhine.[12] From 12 March, the 95th established defenses in the vicinity of Neuss. Assembling east of the Rhine at Beckum on 3 April, it launched an attack across the Lippe River the next day and captured Hamm and Kamen on the 6th.[12] After clearing the enemy pocket north of the Ruhr and the Möhne Rivers, the division took Werl and Unna on 9/10 April, Dortmund on 13 April and maintained positions on the north bank of the Ruhr.[12] It held this position until the end of the war. A simple tribute.

[UPI] Turkish authorities issued an arrest warrant Friday for an ex-official with the Central Intelligence Agency over his alleged role in a failed coup attempt last year.
Graham Fuller was accused of being in Turkey at the time of the coup attempt in the country launched by military members in July 2016. After the attempt failed, Fuller left the country.
Istanbul's Chief Public Prosecutor's Office accused Fuller of attempting to overthrow the Turkish government and obstructing duties, obtaining state information that must be kept secret for political and military espionage purposes and attempting to overthrow constitutional order.
The warrant also says Fuller was in contact with Henri Barkey -- an American academic who has also had a Turkish arrest warrant against him and others who played a role in the attempted coup.
Prosecutors accused Barkey of organizing and coordinating the coup attempt at a meeting on Istanbul's Buyukada island last year -- a meeting which authorities say Fuller was also a part of.
The arrest warrant came after Alexander Dugin, a Russian strategist, claimed during an interview that Fuller and Barkey both attended the meeting in Buyukada and said Russian intelligence possessed "concrete evidence that CIA agents commanded the failed coup attempt."
In 2006, Fuller wrote a letter in support of Fethullah Gulen's U.S. green card application. Gulen is considered to be the coup's mastermind.

[NYT] Everyone knows that we are again living in a Gilded Age.
More controversial is the question of what should be done about it. We seem stuck in the same policy equilibrium we have been in for decades, with conservatives denying that there is a problem and pushing policies that would make it even worse, liberals emphasizing the need for education and skills development, and leftists pushing for a unionized labor market and social-democratic welfare state.
Some of these ideas are good ones, which would make life better for vulnerable people. But they’d do little to directly target inequality in our society or to capture all the benefits that economic fairness brings.
The solution is simpler than it seems. There’s a tried and tested way, within the system we have now, of giving everyone a share in the investment returns now hoarded by the wealthy. It’s called a social wealth fund, a pool of investment assets in some ways like the giant index or mutual funds already popular with retirement savings accounts or pension funds, but one owned collectively by society as a whole. One that paid dividends not to the few, or even just to the shrinking middle class lucky enough to have their savings invested, but to everyone.
It may be our best chance to stop a decades-long trend of rising wealth inequality that has only accelerated since the Great Recession. According to new data released by the Federal Reserve, the collapse of the housing bubble and the ensuing financial crisis caused the net worth of virtually all families, rich and poor, to drop sharply between 2007 and 2010. But during the post-2010 economic recovery, the fortunes of the wealthiest grew rapidly while nearly everyone else’s lagged behind.
The wealth of the top 1 percent increased by an average of $4.9 million over the past decade, while the average holdings of the bottom 99 percent declined by about $4,500. Wealth inequality is now the highest it has been since the Federal Reserve began collecting this kind of data in 1983. A full account of just how bad things have gotten is difficult to wrap one’s mind around. In 2016, according to my calculations, the top 1 percent had an average wealth of $26.6 million, while the net worth of everyone in the bottom third combined was less than zero (because of a mixture of low accumulated savings and high debt).
The stress this puts on our society is hard to overstate, and though recognition of our country’s grossly unequal condition has grown in recent years, few have proposed credible ways of turning things around. That’s where a social wealth fund comes in.

Everyone knows that we are again living in a Gilded Age.
Ask the people from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin who voted for Trump if they consider it a 'Gilded Age'. The oxygen must be really light up there in the NYT offices.

Idiotic. After two decades only 1/5 of those in the bottom 20% will still be there without aid, the rest having moved up — some all the way up to the top 20%. And likewise, most of those currently in the top 20% will have fallen to lower income categories. But giving the government, or a pseudo-government entity, vast sums of money to play with only guarantees those funds will evaporate while distorting every corner of the economy. Think government investment in renewable energy, only on a larger scale.
And don’t forget that the housing bubble was the result of federal government distortions of the market, harming most those it purported to help.
As the top 1% get wealthier — usually, like Bill Gates, by creating new products that people want to buy, or by investing (giving money) in others who create new products people want to buy — they either spend the money (creating jobs), invest the money (creating jobs), save the money (allowing banks to loan it out, so that it is spent by others creating jobs), or they give it away as targeted charity, helping those at the bottom more effectively than a govenment “wealth fund” possibly could.

Oh, I'm totally in favor of this -- provided I'm in charge of where the money goes and determining from it shall be extracted.
Let's start by taking all university endowment funds, then all of Carlos Slim, George Sauron, Jeff Bezor, and Mark Zuckersperg's money so I can get me some boats'n'hoes.
Don't worry; I promise to be a fair and benevolent dictator. Trust me.
[Breitbart] Friday on his nationally syndicated radio show, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh questioned the timing of the announcement former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn had been charged by special counsel Robert Mueller for lying to the FBI.
Limbaugh suggested the timing of the news was to draw the attention away from passage of the tax bill among other items in the news, including the Matt Lauer firing from NBC and the "not guilty" verdict in the Kate Steinle murder trial.
"So there you have it ‐ they’re all excited," Limbaugh said. "Mueller did the deed on the right day. Mueller did the deed to sweep the tax cut deal off the table and to tick everybody off. This is, in Jonathan Martin’s opinion, the swamp banding together ‐ the establishment coordinating its efforts to continue to destroy Trump and muddy the waters. The tax bill is going to pass. As far as [Mitch] McConnell and [Paul] Ryan are concerned, none of this today is a legal problem."
"It’s a bit of a political problem, but it doesn’t present any legal problems to them or their tax bill," he continued. "The tax bill is going to pass. But I don’t have any doubt that the timing of this thing today may not be coincidental. Just look at all the news it has swept off the front pages and look what it put back on the front page: ’Trump colluded with the Russians to steal the election from Hillary.’"
BLUF:
[Washington Examiner] Yes, there are women in the workplace who are taken advantage of by men who clearly lack character. And there are ways to teach our daughters how to deal with this fact. But many grown women are just as eager as men to engage in "inappropriate sexual behavior." Indeed, most women love to be the one the powerful man chooses. And who’s kidding whom? It’s sexy to be bad behind closed doors. Movies and television sell this message every day. Did we honestly think it would have no impact?
Matt Lauer is the latest man to be accused of sexual harassment, and he has now gone on the record with his apology. He is unquestionably not the family man America thought he was. But like others who've been accused, Lauer noted that some of the claims are "untrue or mischaracterized."
That is no doubt all he will say, but behind that statement is an entire story. It’s a salacious story, and I assure you it doesn’t look like what the media would have you believe. It isn’t a story about a bad man who preys upon innocent, unsuspecting women. It’s a story about sex and power and what they can do when opportunity arises. It’s about temptation, excitement, and (dare I say it) sin. Both men and women are equally flawed, and they are equally capable of sin.
[The Hill] The White House said on Friday that it was the Obama administration that authorized former national security adviser Michael Flynn's contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during President Trump's transition, according to CNN.
Flynn pleaded guilty on Friday to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Kislyak in the month before Trump took office, the first current or former Trump White House official brought down by special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia's election meddling.
Court records indicate that his communications with Kislyak were directed by a Trump transition official, with multiple news outlets reporting that official was Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner.
"They are saying here at the White House that Flynn’s conversations with Sergey Kisylak were quote ’authorized’ by the Obama administration," CNN correspondent Jim Acosta said. Not that approval or disapproval will make any difference at this point.
[Reuters] President Donald Trump is likely to announce next week that the United States recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, a senior administration official said on Friday, a move that would upend decades of American policy and possibly inflame tensions in the Middle East.
[PJ] As the skulls of Matt Lauer and Garrison Keillor are added to the ever-growing pile collected by the #metoo and #sohardtobeawoman feminists, this libertarian is starting to wonder if there will be any straight, normal testosterone males remaining on the left -- so it’s time to inject a little sanity.
Let me say right up front that I’m not an idiot, and I know I will be told I’m victim blaming.
My answer to that is, "Sure am. Not a problem." The trendy way of shutting up any complaints of women not behaving in any sensible way is not going to work with me.
Saying what a man could never say. Lengthy and provocative as only Hoyt can be. Don't neglect the comments.

Well done. The comments are reasonable, moderate, and some give the impression of relief at finally being able to say something they believe.
Back in the day, in a field project in a dicey area, I was asked to teach the female staff self defense. So after dinner, we would get out the mats and the ladies would be throwing Aubrey hither and yon.
At the forty-year reunion, two of them referenced that even before noticing I'd put on weight or even saying hello. It appears to have been important to them all along, more than I had anticipated. Neither of them had had to use it. But having it in their quiver just in case made a difference to them.

She’s good. More from the article, with my thoughts:
Some of us grew up in another time and place. We were taught the way women respond to unwanted advances, much less to advances that amount to professional extortion. There is the “freeze face” — the look that puts a man at a remote distance, where they’re ants, and you’re a goddess. And there is the “How dare you?”
For men who persist or who start out with groping, where I come from in another time and place, there was the slap, or for the really slow of learning ones, the punch.
There are very few men who continue being amorous when you punch them in the face. (And there are self-defense classes to handle those.)
I have been naive and oblivious all my life. Looking back now on a very few conversations with male colleagues before I retired to have children, it occurs to me that they might have been passes — but I was engaged at nineteen, married when I was twenty, and always responded to such things with, “I’m so glad you’re only joking, and don’t really mean that! I could never be friends with someone who meant that to a married woman.”
If women are going to be adult human beings, in the workplace we need to stand on two legs and demand to be treated like adult human beings. We need to, yes, refuse tainted advancement based on putting out. We need to behave as professionals.

[LI] German Intelligence Agency (BND) is concerned about the Islamist ideology increasing its influence in the Balkan region, German newspapers report. The main focus of Germany’s foreign intelligence agency is the Muslim-majority country of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The agency has been alarmed by massive investments being made by Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries in the religious and Islamist infrastructure of the country.
The investments made by Arab patrons are paying off handsomely. Bosnia-Herzegovina has the highest percentage of ISIS recruits compared to any other European country, German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung confirmed. An estimated 200 Bosnians have left the country to fight for the Islamic State, a German broadcaster reported. In recent months, Bosnian Police have made several arrests and recovered large amounts of explosives and military hardware in raids across the country.
Carved out of the Communist Republic of Yugoslavia in 1992, the country of Bosnia-Herzegovina became the first Muslim-majority state of the modern Europe. Nearly 16 years later, Kosovo would declare independence from Serbia, emerging as Europe’s second Muslim-majority state. Unsurprisingly, both Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo are today hotbeds for Jihadi recruitment. In early 1990s, hundreds of ’mujahedeen’ fighters came from abroad to bolster the ranks of Bosnian Muslims forces battling the Orthodox Serbs and Catholic Croats. Today, Bosnian Muslims are returning the favor by exporting Jihad abroad.

[MEDIAite] Baywatch star Pamela Anderson had a bit of a hot take yesterday when she suggested that the women who were sexually abused by Harvey Weinstein might not have been victimized if they were just more careful with him.
Anderson spoke with Megyn Kelly on Thursday, where she talked about the sexual abuse she had to overcome as a child. She went on to say that various figures made unscrupulous propositions to her when she first arrived in Hollywood, and it only took common sense to avoid getting involved in complicated situations.
"Don’t go into a hotel room alone. If someone answers the door in a bathrobe, leave," said Anderson. "It was common knowledge that certain producers or certain people in Hollywood are people to avoid, privately. You know what you’re getting into if you’re going into a hotel room alone."
When asked to talk about her previous interactions with Weinstein, Anderson said the mogul came off as "very intimidating" while working together in the past. She went on to say she was not surprised when Weinstein’s sex misconduct came to light since it was "common knowledge" for her.
[Townhall] While the liberal media is celebrating the announcement that former Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, a bigger scandal was practically ignored.
On Thursday, Judicial Watch released 29 pages of FBI emails regarding the inexcusable June 27, 2016 meeting between former President Bill Clinton and then Attorney General Loretta Lynch on the tarmac of the Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, AZ. This meeting was not accidental, as Clinton purposely delayed the takeoff of his aircraft to arrange the supposedly impromptu encounter with the Attorney General.
According to Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton, "These new FBI documents show the FBI was more concerned about a whistle-blower who told the truth about the infamous Clinton-Lynch tarmac meeting than the scandalous meeting itself."
In the midst of a FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton’s "extremely careless" handling of top secret email communications, Lynch held a secretive meeting with her husband. This bombshell information would have never been made public if not for the investigative work of Phoenix television anchor Christopher Sign, who received a tip about the meeting from a "trusted source."
With an ongoing Justice Department investigation into the improper handling of email communications, it was highly improper for Lynch to agree to the meeting with Bill Clinton just days before FBI agents would interview his wife. Once confronted about the tarmac meeting, Lynch claimed they only discussed golf and grandchildren, which is a completely ludicrous explanation for the 30-minute meeting.
If the meeting was so innocent, why did the Justice Department withhold key documents for so long? After an initial July 7, 2016 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request by Judicial Watch for documents pertaining to the meeting, the Justice Department claimed that nothing could be located. Only after an official FOIA lawsuit did the department provide the various FBI email exchanges.
As noted by Fitton, the real focus of the emails was to try to locate the leaker who exposed the meeting. One unidentified FBI agent lamented that the meeting was disclosed to the press and claimed that "We need to find that guy" in order to get him fired or sanctioned by his supervisors. The emails show that the FBI believed the source was a Phoenix police officer and one agent expressed a desire to ban the officer from being involved in future security details.
[Breitbart] The Senate passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act on Thursday, which serves as one of the final steps for Congress to pass historic tax legislation.
The Senate passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act 51-49, almost entirely along party lines, with Vice President Mike Pence presiding over the vote. Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) voted against the bill, and 48 Democrats voted against the tax reform legislation as well.
Reluctant Republican senators such as Susan Collins (R-ME) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) voted for the bill after last minute changes were made. Flake received a commitment from Republican leadership and the White House that they would pursue a permanent solution for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) illegal aliens, while Collins received a provision that would keep the deduction for state and local taxes (SALT). I still remain skeptical regarding the bill's final passage.

States (such as Jersey, California, Illinois...usual suspects) think they can get away with raising taxes with impunity because people can deduct them from federal taxes. Getting rid of this deduction might make these states more fiscally responsible. Meanwhile, how are those pension funds in Illinois doing?

[AnNahar] Fighting between Yemen's Houthis and loyalists of former president former President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh ... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it... rocked the capital Sanaa for a second straight night, leaving at least three people dead, Saleh's party said Friday.
The violence threatens an alliance that has held the capital and much of the north of Yemen in defiance of the Saudi-backed government for more than three years.
Huthi fighters, also known as Ansarullah, surrounded the homes of two of Saleh's nephews late on Thursday, a source in Saleh's forces said.
"We were surprised by an armed attack by Ansarullah targeting the guards of the house of Brigadier Tareq Saleh, which left three dead and maimed three others," the ex-president's General People's Congress said.
"We hold Ansarullah fully responsible."
The Huthis said there were "festivities in some streets of south Sanaa," in a statement released on their Saba news agency, without giving further details of their location or any casualty toll.
Thursday night's violence came 24 hours after festivities at the Saleh mosque in Sanaa killed nine Houthis and five Saleh supporters.
One source at the Jumhuriya hospital said late on Thursday that the corpse count from the infighting had risen to as many as 18 rebels and six Saleh loyalists.
Saleh and the Huthis forged an unlikely alliance in 2014, ending decades of enmity to join ranks in fighting against Yemen's internationally recognised President Abedrabbo Mansour.
The infighting now threatens to unravel the fragile alliance, which has been battling a Saudi-led military intervention in the war since March 2015.
The conflict has since claimed more than 8,600 lives and triggered what the United Nations ...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense... has described as the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

The national prosecutor's office said in a statement that the two men were from 2012-2015 members of the Nusra Front, which the Dutch government designates as a terrorist group, and had travelled to the Netherlands as "refugees" in 2015.
A third Syrian man was arrested in possession of four kilograms of marijuana while the fourth had travelled to the Netherlands using fake documents in 2017.
[AlAhram] The Egyptian state committee charged with administering the financial assets of accused murderous Moslems on Friday seized the assets of 19 people and 14 companies due to links with the banned Moslem Brüderbund, al-Ahram’s Arabic website reported.
The seizure includes the assets of four children of leading Brotherhood figure Essam El-Erian, who is in jail facing trial in a number of terror-related cases.
The committee seized the assets of companies operating mostly in tourism, investment, and real estate, and located in various governorates including Cairo, Alexandria, Marsa Matrouh, and 10 Ramadan city.
In September, a court order regulating the work of the committee, which was first formed in late 2013, gave the committee and its decisions judicial immunity against appeals.
The committee is tasked with assessing and managing the frozen assets of those who have been included on Egypt’s terror lists.
The committee is headed by the head of the Cairo appeals court, Mohammed Yasser Abo El-Fatouh, and includes representatives of the ministries of interior, finance, social solidarity, and local development, as well as representatives of the Central Bank of Egypt, the National Security Apparatus, and several other entities.
Egypt's current terror list contains around 2,000 names, including top Moslem Brüderbund leaders convicted of violent crimes.
These include: ex-president Mohammed Morsi; Brotherhood spiritual leader Mohammed Badie; owner of the Juhayna dairy company, businessman Safwan Thabet; Wasat Party chairman Abul Ela Mady; and football player Mohammed Abou-Treika.
The Egyptian government designated the Moslem Brüderbund a terrorist organization in 2013.

[Ynet] The Pentagon has received permission from the government of Niger to begin flying armed drones from the capital, Niamey, a US official said Friday.
The arrangement, which has not been publicly announced, reflects an expanding US military campaign against faceless myrmidons in Africa and is based on a recently signed US-Nigerien memorandum of understanding. It was first reported by the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... The US official said armed drone flights could begin as early as next week or at least by the end of December. The memorandum of understanding limits the drones to defensive missions, the official said. The official was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and so spoke on condition of anonymity.

"Rebel groups shot down a regime helicopter with a guided missile near the border with Leb and the occupied Golan," the Britannia-based monitoring group's chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.
The size of the crew and its fate remained unclear, he said.
The area where the helicopter went down is an enclave controlled by Islamist rebel and jihadist groups and surrounded by regime forces.
Abdel Rahman said the fighting has increased there since October.

Police have launched almost daily operations against IS cells across the country following concerns hundreds of alleged IS members have crossed into The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... from Syria.
The suspects were detained during raids on 12 addresses in eight districts of Istanbul, the privately-owned news agency Dogan said.
They are suspected of providing financial support to fighters in "conflict zones", with the authorities opening deportation proceedings against them, it said.
Earlier this month, Dogan said nearly 800 alleged IS members had illegally crossed into Turkey from Syria, though it did not say over what period.
Police detained 634 IS suspects last month, according to interior ministry figures.
Over the past two years, Turkey has suffered a series of attacks blamed on IS, one of which targeted a popular Istanbul nightclub during New Year celebrations, leaving 39 people dead. IS gunman Abdulgadir Masharipov, who was born in Uzbekistan and confessed to the attack, will go on trial this month.
There are concerns that those foreigners who have fought in Syria or Iraq will pose security risks on their return home as IS loses significant territory in the two countries. At least 5,600 people, residents of 33 countries, have returned home, the Soufan Centre, a nonprofit security analysis group, said in October.
Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on Friday claimed Turkey had stopped a total of 50,000 "imported muscle" although he did not say over what period. This figure is believed to include those who have been blocked at Ottoman Turkish airports.
He also said Turkey had caught 5,000 IS suspects.

[IsraelTimes] In US trial, Reza Zarrab testifies The Sick Man of Europe Turkey's leader instructed banks to take part in gold-for-oil ploy; government calls case a 'plot'
A Ottoman Turkish-Iranian gold trader testifying at trial in New York on Thursday implicated Turkey’s President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First ... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey... in a multi-billion-dollar gold-for-oil scheme allegedly designed to subvert US sanctions on Iran.
Reza Zarrab, 34, who was tossed in the calaboose Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit! in Miami in 2016 before agreeing to cooperate with US prosecutors, implied that Erdogan knew how he and a Ottoman Turkish banker, now on trial, circumvented US sanctions on Iran and laundered money from Iranian petroleum sales.
The case has angered Erdogan. His government has called the trial a "plot" and he has demanded the release of Zarrab and defendant, Mehmet Hakan Atilla, the deputy chief executive of Ottoman Turkish lender Halkbank.
"We did the right thing. We did not violate the embargo," Erdogan told politicians in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... on Thursday, according to state broadcaster TRT Haber.
But in New York, Zarrab said he was told that in 2012, Erdogan, prime minister at the time, and then treasury minister Ali Babacan had given "instructions" for two other Ottoman Turkish public banks, Vakif and Ziraat, to take part in the scheme.
Turkey’s then economy minister, Zaref Caglayan, "told me that Mr. Prime Minister had given approval for Ziraat and Vakif to also do this work," he said through a Ottoman Turkish-language interpreter.
Zarrab also used his second day of testimony to declare that he extended the multi-billion-dollar scheme to India and tried to do so in China.
"But then all the banks we were working with, they immediately stopped it when they realized it had something to do with Iran," Zarrab testified.
On Wednesday, he said he paid tens of millions of dollars worth of bribes to Caglayan between 2012 and 2013 to facilitate illegal gold transactions with Iran.
Due to face trial himself, he instead pleaded guilty to seven counts and became prosecutors’ star witness. While others have been indicted, they remain on the lam and Atilla is alone in the dock.
’Under pressure’
While Erdogan is not charged with any crime, analysts had expected that corruption revelations could embarrass him and his inner circle. Ottoman Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said Zarrab was making defamatory claims because he was "under pressure."
There are fears in Turkey that a guilty verdict could lead to possible sanctions on one or more Ottoman Turkish banks, spelling bad news for the country’s fragile economy.
Zarrab was a key figure in a 2013 Ottoman Turkish corruption scandal in which he allegedly bribed four ministers to facilitate sanctions-busting trade and other deals. He allegedly carried suitcases stuffed with cash to Dubai, where they were exchanged for foreign currencies used for international payments to circumvent the US sanctions. He was held for 70 days until prosecutors dropped all the charges.
Caglayan, who is also named in the US indictment, and the other three ministers resigned from government at the time.
Turkey has denounced both the New York trial and the 2013 scandal as conspiracies by US-based preacher Fethullah Gülen ... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world... , the alleged criminal mastermind of a 2016 failed coup targeting Erdogan. Gulen denies the allegations.
Atilla is charged with violating sanctions against Iran, as well as of bribery and money laundering.
Halkbank has denied any suggestion that it violated US sanctions, saying it had "not been a party" to any "illegal" transaction.
[DW] Ottoman Turkish prosecutors on Friday ordered the seizure of assets belonging to Reza Zarrab, a Ottoman Turkish-Iranian billionaire who turned into a witness for the US government in a New York trial centered on an alleged oil-for-gold Iran sanctions busting scheme.
The order applies to Zarrab's assets and those of his family, including his Ottoman Turkish pop star wife Ebru Gundes, state-run Anadolu news agency reported.
According to the Anadolu report, Zarrab is suspected of espionage against The Sick Man of Europe Turkey.
The Ottoman Turkish government has previously accused the Gulen movement, which it blames for last year's failed coup attempt, of illegal wiretapping or creating fake audio recordings.
It has also accused US prosecutors and judges of being tied to the Gulen movement.
US District Judge Richard M. Berman said audio recordings of the conversations between Erdogan and Babacan would be heard in court as evidence next week.

[BALTIMORESUN] Aleasha Bowie was recuperating at her East Baltimore home from a surgical procedure Thursday morning when she heard the shots.
She screamed for her brother, who was just about to leave for work, then rushed to the front of the house to peer out the window, she said. On the corner outside, she saw a young man ‐ someone she’d watched grow up in the neighborhood ‐ slumped on the street.
The 21-year-old man, whom police did not identify, was the 319th homicide victim in the city in 2017; raising the total beyond the 318 killings that occurred in Baltimore in all of 2016.
That means this year is now Baltimore’s second-deadliest on record on a per-capita basis, with a month left to go. The record was set in 2015, when there were 344 homicides.
Bowie, 40, immediately thought of the man’s mother, she said. Then she thought of her own children, who often play in the playground just feet from where the gunfire had erupted.
"I got four good kids. I’m trying to have them make it out of here," Bowie said shortly after noon, about an hour after police responded to the 1800 block of Aiken St. in East Baltimore’s Oliver neighborhood.

[ARABNEWS] Iran state television ... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
aired a new video about imprisoned British-Iranian Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe on Friday, accusing her of taking part in covert activities against the country financed by Britannia and the US.
The new video ‐ the second of a two-part report by state broadcaster IRIB ‐ claimed she helped lead a training program at Thomson Rooters directed "against the Islamic republic."
"Its aim was to train people to collect information on Iran under the cover of journalistic activities with direct financing from USAID (the US Agency for International Development), which operates under the US State Department and the CIA," the voice-over in the video said.
Zaghari-Ratcliffe was sentenced to five years in prison in September 2016 for taking part in the mass anti-regime protests in 2009, which she denies.
The first video, shown on Nov. 23, accused her of helping to launch the BBC’s Persian-language service, which Iran sees as hostile to its Islamic regime, and helping to train its journalists.
The BBC has denied the claims, stating that she never worked for BBC Persian.
"She was employed as a projects assistant between February 2009 and October 2010 for the BBC’s international development charity, BBC World Service Trust," it said in a statement.
"Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe was never a journalism trainer but undertook administrative duties such as travel bookings, typing and filing," it added.
Zaghari-Ratcliffe was working for the Thomson Rooters Foundation ‐ the media organization’s philanthropic arm ‐ at the time of her arrest.
The videos have appeared just before she is due to face fresh charges in court of "spreading propaganda" on Dec. 10.
Thomson Rooters chief executive Monique Villa said recently that the new charges risked a further 16-year prison sentence and were "a mockery of justice."
Zaghari-Ratcliffe was enjugged Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages! at Tehran airport on April 3, 2016 after visiting family. She was traveling with her daughter Gabriella, now three years old.

[DAWN] The future political stakes of the Tehrik-e-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah hang in the balance as its internal rifts are widening.
The Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistain (TLP), being touted as the political face of the Tehrik-e-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah, has begun disowning the faction led by Dr Ashraf Asif Jalali. The fact came to the fore when TLP chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi, who had led the Islamabad protest, disowned the Lahore sit-in in a TV talk show on Thursday.
Pir Afzal Qadri from Gujranwala, another central character of the Faizabad sit-in, has already formed his own faction of the Tehrik-e-Labbaik.
The sit-in by the Jalali-led Tehrik-e-Labbaik outside the Punjab 1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots.... Assembly building on The Mall entered the sixth day on Thursday as the protesters, numbering not more than a few dozens, pegged their tents at one of the busiest intersections of the city, sending the traffic out of gear to the disadvantage of the Lahorites.
The Lahore sit-in was started by the Jalali-led Tehrik-e-Labbaik following reports of police operation against the participants of the Faizabad sit-in on Saturday (Nov 25) morning.
The protesters had blocked the main entrance to Islamabad for about three weeks, demanding that the federal law minister resign admitting responsibility for deleting a clause from the law relating to Khatm-e-Nubuwat oath taken by Moslem candidates.
The Islamabad episode culminated in an agreement brokered by the army between the federal government and the protesters led by fiery ...a single two-syllable word carrying connotations of both incoherence and viciousness. A fiery delivery implies an audience of rubes and yokels, preferably forming up into a mob... holy man Khadim Rizvi. But ironically, their colleagues in Lahore led by Dr Asif Jalali didn’t accept that in the first hint of grouping within the outfit.
Apparently grieved at being ignored in the agreement with the federal government, Dr Jalali told the media that "qisas for 70 deaders of Khatm-e-Nubuwat was not incorporated in it". He also sought the resignation of Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah for allegedly speaking for the Ahmadi community’s rights in a TV show.
Dr Jalali had earlier staged an eight-day sit-in close to D-Chowk in Islamabad. The protest missed media limelight and ended on Nov 3 after an assurance from the government that the Raja Zafarul Haq-led committee’s report on the controversial law would be made public within 20 days. He insists on continuing the Lahore protest until Mr Sanaullah steps down.
Insiders say that besides making other offers, the PML-N government in Punjab has also promised to politically accommodate the Tehrik-e-Labbaik by conceding a certain number of seats to it in the coming general elections.
Already heading Tehrik Siraat-e-Mustaqeem, Dr Jalali claims that he had formed Tehrik-e-Labbaik the day Mumtaz Qadri ‐ a police guard who killed former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer ‐ was hanged on Feb 29 last year while Khadim Rizvi headed the TLP formed in Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... in August 2015.

[RADIOSHABELLE] A Mandera court has jugged Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out! for 30 years a Somalia national accused of spying for al-Shabaab ... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... terror group.
Mr Abdirahaman Abdi Takow, 22, was found guilty of sneaking into Mandera GK Prison intending to collect information for the Lion of Islams.
Mr Takow was enjugged Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages! on September 14, 2017 by two prison officers manning a watch tower at the prison.
Mr Hussein Osman Mursal, a prosecution witness and a warder at the prison told the court during trial that the accused entered the jail through an opening in the perimeter wall.
"I was at the watch tower when I saw the accused person enter the prison through an opening that construction workers were using while working on the perimeter wall," said Mr Musal.
The witness said the accused informed him that he was going to report a matter to police within the prison.
"He told me that someone had conned him Sh30,000 at the bus park promising to help him travel to Nairobi and he wanted to report that to police," said the witness.
A second witness told the court that the accused was with another person who was left outside the prison premises and took off on realising that Takow had been arrested.
"Another person was outside peeping through that wall opening and took off when we attempted to get him," said Mr Ali Mohammed Ibrahim, a prison officer.
Both witnesses told the court that their seniors had informed them of a planned attack on the prison by al-Shabaab and they therefore remained vigilant.
"The accused claimed that his money was taken just outside the Mandera Police Station where buses are searched by officers before leaving for Nairobi. He could not explain why he did not report the matter to officers doing the screening only to come to the prison," he said.
An anti-terror Police officer told the court that the accused was a Shabaab spy sent to gather information on the prison, cop shoppes and the military camp in Mandera Town.
"A multi-agency interrogation team concluded that the accused was an Amiyat (Al-Shabaab spying group) dispatched to Mandera to gather information," said the officer.
The ATPU officer told the court that al-Shabaab planned to attack several installations in Mandera including the prison, cop shoppe, county offices, military camp and the county referral hospital.

[ARABNEWS] Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, elected virtually unopposed in 2014, faces a high-profile challenger in next year’s election, but the rival who lives in exile is seen more as an inconvenience.
Former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq announced his candidacy this week from the UAE, saying Egypt was facing "many problems in all aspects of life."
El-Sisi, a former army chief whose election came less than a year after he overthrew President Muhammad Mursi in July 2013, has not officially declared his candidacy.
But he looks all but certain to run in ‐ and dominate ‐ the election.
Shafiq, who narrowly lost to Mursi in 2012 presidential polls, is one of the few candidates who could come close to challenging El-Sisi, experts say.
"The government is afraid of any candidate but especially of Shafiq... who has much more political experience than El-Sisi himself had" before coming to power, said Hassan Nafaa, emeritus professor of political science at Cairo University.
A former aviation minister and airforce general, Shafiq was hastily appointed prime minister by Hosni Mubarak ...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011... in 2011 before the longtime leader was ousted by a popular uprising.

[Libya Herald] An gang took over Sebha airport today as well as the main army base and a number of checkpoints, although no shots were fired as police protecting them withdrew.
A top-level source in Sebha said the group came with 12 cars, guns and ammunition.
"They said to me ’we have people we want to work in security in the airport’. I said they had to contact the police. If they are not police we will not accept them," he told the Libya Herald.
"We withdrew because we don’t want people to destroy the airport. This is a civil airport. We will make a solution with them, hopefully peaceful," he added.
Another source said the group was the Sukour al-Sahra ("Desert Eagles") Brigade, the Tebu militia led by Barka Shedemi, which has been based in Qatrun and which has been mounting patrols on the southern borders. Previously Shedemi has been understood to have 200 vehicles at his disposal.
Shedemi recently announced he was blockading the southern border in an effort to halt migrant trafficking.
Any move into Sebha by Shedemi could well result in renewed violence in a town that in the past three years has seen festivities between Tebus and Tuaregs, between Tebus and the Awlad Suleiman tribe and between the Awlad Suleiman and the Qaddadfa tribe. Shedemi is said to have a longstanding hatred of the Qaddadfa.

[RADIOSHABELLE] The Bureau of Immigration (BI) recently intercepted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 a Somali national who attempted to go to the United Kingdom by pretending to be a Swedish citizen.
Abdinajah Mohamoud Aden, 23, arrived as a transit passenger at the NAIA 2 last November 25 aboard a Philippine Airlines flight from Dubai when he was accosted by members of the BI travel control and enforcement unit (TCEU).
He added that the foreigner was later booked on the first available flight to his port of origin, noting that the incident was also relayed to officers of the British embassy in Manila for their information.
"What is his intention? Why is he traveling to London?" Morente said in a statement.
On the other hand, BI port operations division chief Marc Red Mariñas reported that Aden was apprehended after he presented to PAL personnel a Swedish travel document instead of his passport.
"It was only during questioning that he was compelled to produce his Somali passport which he had hidden in his luggage," he said.
Mariñas added that the passenger was uncooperative during the interview, although he claimed that he acquired his Swedish travel document for USD3,000 from a friend in Somalia so he could travel to the UK.

[ARABNEWS] The Israeli Army destroyed early Friday the West Bank home of a Paleostinian man charged with murdering his Israeli employer, Paleostinian security officials said.
As a bulldozer was used to raze the home of Mohammed Abu al-Rub in the town of Qabatiya, festivities broke out between soldiers and residents in which one Paleostinian was maimed, the sources said.
Al-Rub and another Paleostinian man were charged on Oct. 29 with the Oct. 4 murder of their Israeli employer Reuven Schmerling at their workplace in Kafr Qassem in central Israel.
Schmerling, 70, who lived in the Israeli settlement of Elkana in the West Bank, was stabbed and beaten to death by the two in his coal warehouse, prosecutors say.
Israeli authorities described his murder as a "terrorist" attack.
Israel routinely destroys the homes of Paleostinians it accuses of carrying out attacks, arguing the tactic acts as a deterrent.
Critics say it amounts to collective punishment.

[DAWN] One soldier was martyred and another injured in a landmine blast in Mohmand Agency ... Named for the Mohmand clan of the Sarban Pahstuns, a truculent, quarrelsome lot. In Pakistain, the Mohmands infest their eponymous Agency, metastasizing as far as the plains of Peshawar, Charsadda, and Mardan. Mohmands are also scattered throughout Pakistan in urban areas including Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta. In Afghanistan they are mainly found in Nangarhar The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The kaboom occurred in Tehsil Saafi's Chamarkand area when the two personnel accidentally triggered an explosive while collecting water for their check post, an official said.
The injured soldier was shifted to a local hospital. Security forces initiated a search operation in the area after cordoning it off.
On Thursday, an IED planted along the roadside in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas' (Fata) South Wazoo Agency had killed five, including the chief of a peace committee.

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] An Arclight airstrike was carried out in eastern Nangarhar The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country.. province of Afghanistan on Thursday targetig a compound belonging to the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. The airstrike was carried out in the vicinity of the restive Khogyani district, leaving at least twelve fighters of the group dead or maimed.
The provincial government media office in a statement also confirmed the airstrike left at least four ISIS turbans dead and eight others maimed.
The statement further added that the US unmanned aerial vehicles targeted a compound of the terror group in Wazir Tangi area.
The anti-government armed myrmidon groups including the ISIS loyalists have not commented regarding the report so far.
This comes as at least eight foreign turbans were killed in a similar airstrike in this province on a day earlier.
The 201st Silab Corps officials said the airstrikes were carried out on Wednesday in the vicinity of the restive Achin district.
The officials further added that the turbans were targeted in the vicinity of Mamand Margha, leaving eight dead.

You'll note that since the Big Show in Las Vegas on October 1st, 2017, .223/5.56mm ammunition has almost returned to its original pre-shooting level. On September 30th, 2017, .223/5.56mm ammunition stood at $.19 per round. Directly after the shooting, prices jumped to a $.21 per round high. Now, eight weeks or so later, prices fell to $.20 per round, where they have been for the last five weeks.
4,000 unexpended rounds were found in Paddock's suite.
216 individuals were struck by gunfire.
Aesop said Paddock's hit ratio was a little over 21 percent. My original guesstimate was 17.5 percent, but that was based on old data that was less accurate.
Said Aesop:
So, to recap, that leaves us with a .196 average, with gunfire hits on 216 or so out of 1100 attempts (and notably, only 1 out of 200 on Campos in the hallway at a range measured in inches), while firing at a crowded outdoor concert with 22,000 attendees at a venue the size of a WWII aircraft carrier. If you look at the concert goer average, it was about .010, or about what, in baseball, selects you to be a designated peanut vendor.
This wasn't just the worst shooting in U.S. history, it was the worst shooter in US history. The last time America saw someone shoot this badly, it was the roommate in Frank Whaley's apartment in Pulp Fiction, right before Vincent and Jules blow him away.
The really fun stuff is at Western Rifle Shooter's Association, where a conversation was displayed including some of the most best and most useful information on how to fire a rifle in combat, especially focusing on round placement at 300+ meters for the 5.56mm.
I would like to add that concerning the AK-74, Russian armorers typically bore sight at 300 to 400 meters. At that range, firing at Russian center mass which is the crotch area, you are certain to hit a man sized target directly at the chest.
In a report I read some time back, former KGB special forces operators told a hiker who had taken an interest in Afghanistan, that new Soviet Army recruits deployed for the first time were told to aim at the feet for targets closer than 100 meters, and then "walk" their hits up until they hit a target. The bullet drop for the 5.45mm round is about nine inches for the 53 grain steel core ball. That is from the bore to 400 meters. It is way more pronounced for the much heavier 60 grain bullet that is commonly available in the US.
And that means practice, about which it was said that once in country the average Soviet Army rifleman did not have. On the job training for them.
But American armorers bore sight their rifles at 25 yards, and when you go to read the thread, you'll understand why.
Both militaries' doctrines deal with their own unique set of problems and have come to solutions to be used in the field in different ways.
Pistol ammunition prices were steady. Rifle ammunition prices were mostly steady.
Prices for used pistols were lower. Prices for used rifles were mixed.

[ARABNEWS] The Paleostinian president’s office warned Friday of the potential destructive effects of any move denying their claim to East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.
The statement comes as US President Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... is due to decide by Monday on whether to move his country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city.
The Paleostinians see East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state and fiercely oppose any changes that could be regarded as legitimizing Israel’s occupation and annexation of it. Without referring to Trump or the US by name, Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas ... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial... ’ front man Nabil Abu Rudeina said any just solution in the Middle East required recognition of East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Paleostinian state.
"East Jerusalem, with its holy places, is the beginning and the end of any solution and any project that saves the region from destruction," he said in a statement on the official Wafa news agency.
Israel occupied East Jerusalem in the Six-Day War of 1967 and later annexed it in a move never recognized by the international community. No countries currently have their embassies in Jerusalem, instead keeping them in the Israeli commercial capital Tel Aviv.
Trump is due to decide by Monday on whether to renew a six-month waiver on moving the embassy.
He pledged during his campaign to move the embassy to Jerusalem but renewed the waiver in May.
Reports emerged on Friday that Trump could again delay moving the embassy but recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Trump has said he wants to relaunch frozen peace talks between Israel and the Paleostinians in search of the "ultimate deal."
Analysts say any major shift in US policy would make that goal more difficult to achieve.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Houthi forces fired more missiles into Saudi Arabia on Friday, targeting several army posts in the Asir Region of this Gulf kingdom.
The official military wing of the Houthi forces released footage tonight of their rocket battalion firing several missiles on the Saudi installations; this attack prompted the Saudi Air Force to retaliate with a series of airstrikes over northern Yemen.

[ARABNEWS] Pope Francis had an emotional meeting with Moslem refugees from Myanmar in Bangladesh on Friday, and used the word "Rohingya" to describe them for the first time on his Asian trip, calling for them to be respected.
He also urged the world not to ignore refugees, persecuted minorities, the poor and vulnerable.
The encounter took place at an inter-religious peace meeting on his first full day in Bangladesh, to where 625,000 Rohingya from Myanmar’s Rakhine state have fled from an army crackdown.
Refugees have said scores of Rohingya villages have been burnt to the ground, people killed and women raped. Myanmar’s military has denied accusations of "ethnic cleansing" by the US and UN.
The pope had earlier in the week visited Myanmar, where he met its leader Aung San Suu Kyi and Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing.

Oh, that final line! And the rest of it, too. But you clearly had extra fun with internal sounds as well as meaning and rhyme in that final line, Zenobia F.
[Al Jazeera] Georgian security services say they have killed the suspected criminal mastermind of the 2016 bombing of Istanbul's Ataturk Airport.
Akhmed Chatayev was killed in a special operation in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, during which three other people also died. The 20-hour standoff ended with three suspects killed and one locked away Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out! , while one officer was killed and four maimed.
The identities of the other two slain suspects remained unclear. "The investigation is ongoing. We continue to work with our international partners to identify the other two," Nino Giorgobiani, the deputy chief of Georgia's state security service, told the Rooters news agency.
Georgian authorities are looking into what the suspects were doing in Georgia and how they got there.
Chatayev, a 37-year-old from Chechnya, was believed to have been a member of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS, also known as ISIS) group. Interpol says that Chatayev was seen as one of the more senior Russian-speaking ISIS members, responsible for training and commanding at least 130 fighters.
He lost his arm during the Second Chechen War, which took place between 1999 and 2009. In 2015, he moved to ISIS-controlled territory and was placed on a US Treasury sanctions list for planning attacks against US and Ottoman Turkish facilities. He was also put on a UN sanctions list, wanted by Russian authorities for "terrorist crimes committed in its territory", according to Interpol.
Last year, Chatayev was named by Ottoman Turkish and American intelligence services as the criminal mastermind behind the 2016 bombing at Ataturk Airport in the Ottoman Turkish city of Istanbul.
Three suspects fired automatic weapons and detonated boom jackets on June 28, 2016, killing 45 people and injuring more than 200.

[ARABNEWS] Talibs armed with automatic weapons and hand grenades stormed the campus of the Agriculture Training Institute in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar ...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire. city on Friday morning, killing at least 12 people and injuring more than 35 others. Most of the victims were students.
Provincial police chief Salahuddin Mehsud told news hounds that button men entered the campus clad in "burqas" and wearing boom jackets.
The army and police conducted a joint operation that lasted for about two hours and killed three attackers.
Mehsud said police are trying to identify a fourth suspect whose body was found at the site.
The attackers apparently targeted a dormitory for students and teachers at the campus.
Another senior police official, Sajjad Khan, later told NBC News: "Three jacket wallahs armed with AK-47 assault rifles and hand grenades entered the hostel and opened fire on the students before triggering their suicide jackets."
Although the police and army reached the site within five-to-six minutes, several people had been killed in the attack’s early moments.
One student, who managed to flee from the hostel, told media that there were about 40 students in the hostel at the time of the attack.
"Along with some 15 others, I fled the place and we escaped unhurt," he said.
Another student, Sajjadullah, from Buner district, told Arab News that soon after the first shots were fired, students ran from their rooms and jumped over the boundary wall, fleeing for their lives.
Hayatabad Medical Complex Director Shahzad Akbar told media that six bodies and 18 maimed had been brought to the health facility, while sources at Khyber Teaching Hospital said they received three bodies and 17 injured.
The Tehrik-e-Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... Pakistain (TTP) grabbed credit for the attack, which took place around 20 miles from the Afghanistan border.
Peshawar has been the scene of several such attacks, including the deadliest atrocity in Pakistain’s history, when the Pak Taliban killed more than 130 children at the Army Public School in December 2014, since when Pakistain’s military have conducted several major operations against murderous Moslems and their auxiliary groups.
But Peshawar has witnessed a surge in terror attacks in recent weeks. On Nov. 24, Additional Inspector General of Police Ashraf Noor was killed when a suicide bomber rammed his cycle of violence into the police official's vehicle en route to his office.
A Pakistain military front man told the media that the attackers were in contact with their handlers in Afghanistan throughout the assault.
Meanwhile, ...back at the shootout, Butch shot Ike through the elbow. Take that, Ike! he yelled...... Afghan Ambassador Omer Zakhilwal took to Twitter to condemn the "cowardly terrorist attack" in the "strongest terms."
"Our hearts and prayers on this exalted day of Milad-ul-Nabi are with the bereaved families," he added.
The attack came as an Afghan military delegation is visiting Pakistain to discuss border security.
TTP front man Mohammed Khorasani claimed in a message available with Arab News that the assailants targeted a safe house of the Inter-Services Intelligence ...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir... [NEWS.GRABIEN] The hosts of Morning Joe are using their show to rally members of Trump's cabinet remove the president from office.
This cabinet-led coup could happen via the 25th Amendment, host Joe Scarborough said Friday. That amendment to the Constitution, adopted in 1967, deals with replacing a president who is no longer able to "discharge the powers and duties of his office," which these hosts say applies to Trump due to his apparent mental incapacitation.
"If you’ve been around mental health issues in your life ... the pressure heightens, it gets worse," Donny Deutsch said Friday. "And we should be frightened right now. We should be ‐ there is nothing glib about it."
"At what point do you go to article 25? [sic]" Deutsch asked.
Deutsch said he's able to diagnose a change in Trump's mental state: "I have known him for 20 years and I’ve spent hours and hours with him, everything from negotiating leases to at-school functions to hours and hours of interviewing him on my old show. He’s not the same guy. You can see it in his eyes and in his speech pattern, and most frighteningly his behavior. I think there’s something else happening here. If you've been around mental illness and whatnot, I think he’s feeling the noose around his neck tightening with Mueller."
"So take a guy who is mentally unstable," Deutsch continued. "Now put a gun closer ‐ metaphorically, closer and closer to his head, and I think that’s what you’re seeing this week. I think there’s a new level, and I think we’re going to see it heightened as these two stories are coming together. His mental health and the Russian inquiry are coming together and it’s going to crescendo in even more insane behavior."
Scarborough also predicted Trump's mental health would deteriorate.
"My mom has dementia," Scarborough said. "She had pre-dementia for several years. My father’s death, the pressure of that, is when we really lost her. And so it got exponentially worse very first. The more pressure you’re under in this ‐ if this is, in fact, the problem, the worse it gets."
Scarborough said that Trump confidantes agree with him that Trump has "mentally devolved."
"There is no doubt mentally, and maybe it’s the pressure of the campaign and this, everybody that’s known Trump for years says he has mentally devolved, and I just want to know when it’s safe to start talking about it and writing about it," he said.
Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson said mental health experts warned him that Trump's behavior would get worse.

[MSN] Experts on Friday made safe a device filled with nails that was delivered to a pharmacy near an outdoor Christmas market in the German city of Potsdam near Berlin, local police and security officials said.
Germany is on high alert for potential Lion of Islam attacks nearly a year after a Tunisian Islamist hijacked a truck, killed its driver, and then rammed the vehicle into a Christmas market in central Berlin, killing 11 people there.
In Potsdam, police evacuated a large area of the city, including parts of the Christmas market and closed numerous stores while they investigated the package, which had been delivered to a local pharmacy.
Karl-Heinz Schroeter, interior minister of the state of Brandenburg, said the area would remain shut for now while police investigated whether any other similar packages had been delivered.
"We are in the process of continuing our investigation ... It's possible that additional packages were delivered here in the vicinity of the Christmas market," Schroeter told news hounds. "We want to ensure that no one is any danger."
He told news hounds that several hundred grams of nails were found in a metal cylinder in the package, but said it was unclear if the device included any actual explosives.
"We just don't know at this point if this was a device that could have actually went kaboom! or a fake or a test," Schroeter said.
Experts used a robot to defuse the device using high-powered streams of water, officials said.
Peter Meyritz, a senior Potsdam police official, said the pharmacist alerted police on Friday afternoon after he opened the package and discovered wires, nails and batteries inside.
Christmas markets opened across Germany on Monday at the start of the holiday season, fortified with security staff and concrete barriers to protect shoppers.
Germany has around 2,600 such markets, filled with sparkling Christmas trees and wooden stalls serving candied nuts, sausages, mulled wine and handicrafts.
Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said this week Germany had increased information-sharing between federal and state officials and taken other steps to increase security after a series of missteps in the Berlin case.
An Ministry front man said this week the risk of an attack in Europe ...also known as Moslem Lebensraum... and Germany is "continuously high".

[NYTIMES] A prominent Anglican holy man and gay rights campaigner known for contentious gestures has urged believers to pray for Prince George ‐ age 4, and third in line to the throne ‐ to find the love "of a fine young gentleman" when he grows up so as to advance the cause of same-sex marriage in church.
Coming just days after Prince Harry ‐ George’s uncle, and fifth in line ‐ announced his engagement to Meghan Markle, a divorced American actress, the suggestion by the Very Rev. Kelvin Holdsworth seemed to illuminate once more the role of royal romance in Britannia’s imagination and conversation, especially when it collides with tradition.
Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have said they will marry in May at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, west of London. But it is only since 2002 that the Church of England has permitted church marriages for divorced people, "in exceptional circumstances" at the discretion of parish priests. The church teaching is that marriage is for life.
While same-sex marriage is permitted by law in most of Britannia, the Church of England says on its website, "it remains the case that it is not legally possible for same-sex couples to marry" in its churches.
Mr. Holdsworth, the provost of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow, belongs to the Scottish Episcopal Church, a separate province of the Anglican Communion that voted in June to let its priests solemnize same-sex marriages.

[BREITBART] A 22-year-old asylum seeker has been given a suspended sentence after he attempted to pay a local hooker with fake cash he had made on a photocopier.
The 22-year-old, who is said not to have a very firm grasp of German, attempted to buy the services of a hooker at a brothel in the town of Sindelfingen. When he gave her cash, the hooker noticed the bills were obvious fakes and alerted security who called the police, Stuttgarter Zeitung reports.
Investigators soon learned that the migrant had used a colour copy machine at the Magstadt asylum home where he volunteered doing janitorial work and had made 18 copies of a 50 euro note. They say the 22-year-old did a "sloppy job" on the fakes and were also able to locate scissors he had used to cut out the notes.
The asylum seeker initially told police he had come across the bills after selling his mobile phone but this was later proven false by the prosecutor. Even the brother of the asylum seeker admitted: "My brother has a problem with the truth."
The judge asked the 22-year-old, who lives with his 18-year-old wife and child, if he made the counterfeit notes because he was not getting enough money from the state. The man replied that his allowance, 1,300 euros a month, was fine and that the whole endeavour started as a joke.

[All Africa] FOLLOWING the recent military intervention which brought to a dramatic end former president Bob Muggsy Mugabe Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win.... 's 37-year-old rule, his family is now scattered across different countries, while their multi-million dollar businesses and deals face collapse.
The Mugabe family has a multi-million-dollar empire built around numerous farms, prime real estate, various businesses and lucrative tenders which they wrested for self-aggrandisement.
The family also benefitted heavily directly and indirectly from public funds during Mugabe's endless globe-trotting trips.
On some occasions the family used public funds to acquire private assets.
By mid-year, Mugabe had overspent on travel by US$23 million. His budget was US$30, but he spent US$53 million on largely futile foreign trips. Overall, his office had a US$43 million budget overrun.
Investigations by the Zim-bob-we Independent show that Mugabe's wife Grace used to siphon millions during the trips.
"On one occasion this year, for instance, his wife took about US$3,5 million during a foreign trip," a senior Treasury official said this week.
"There is also another example; the money used to buy their mansion in Sandhurst, Sandton, Johannesburg in South Africa came from public funds through local banks. At one point Grace also demanded that Patrick Chinamasa (who was Finance minister and still is) buys cars for her and he had to find the money.
"These are just a few examples, but there was a pattern or systematic looting of public funds. Ministry of Finance and Reserve Bank of Zim-bob-we officials know this."
Sources close to the family told the Independent that while Mugabe and Grace still remain holed up in their Blue Roof mansion in Harare, their children have been scattered by the political upheavals which engulfed Zim-bob-we recently leading to their dramatic loss of power.
The sources said Mugabe's step son, Russel Goreraza, who is Grace's first child with her former husband and hence the former president's step son, is the only one who is still in Harare.
Their daughter Bona, son-in-law Simba Chikore and grandson Simbanashe left for Malaysia on Friday last week. Bona is said to be expecting her second child.
Mugabe's party-loving boys Robert Junior and Bellarmine Chatunga are staying at their affluent Sandhurst mansion. In fact, they have two properties there and were contemplating buying another one.
Mugabe's nephew Patrick Zhuwao is also holed up in Johannesburg after failing to return home from a trip to Argentina ...a country located on the other side of the Deep South. It is covered with Pampers and inhabited by Grouchos, who dance the Tangle. They used to have some islands called the Malvinas located where the Falklands are now. They're not supposed to cry for Evita... in the aftermath of the military takeover. His family members have reportedly joined him in South Africa.
Grace's allies and former cabinet ministers Jonathan Moyo and Saviour Kasukuwere, as well as their families, who sought refuge at the Blue Roof after the army intervention, have also left the country. They are understood to be in Kenya.
Moyo and Kasukuwere's families had remained in the country, but fled after the military raided their homes for the second time last Thursday. The army initially stormed their homes in the wee hours of November 15.

[THECOLLEGEFIX] The student newspaper at Evergreen State College has a section in its opinion pages described as "for people of color by people of color."
"This should be a place where we can be us without it being overshadowed by the dark cloud that is living under white supremacy and having to see things from a white perspective. This is why when we do cover these issues it will be in the context and from the perspective of POC and POC only," according to the section’s editors as they reintroduced it to readers in September.
The anonymous column, known as "POC Talk," debuted in the bi-weekly Cooper Point Journal last year and returned this fall to the newspaper’s pages following racial unrest that erupted at the public university this past spring.
"Dear White people, please take a step back, this isn’t brown-people-answer-white-people’s-questions-hour, we’re asking specifically for submissions from POC," the section’s editors added in their September intro. "As being told no seems to be a difficult concept for some of y’all I await your emails about the Irish, how the term white fragility is mean (great example of white fragility) and how we need to view people through a color-blind lens (just lol). You will 100% not get a response!!!"

I would be more impressed with these neo-segregationists if they would reject all the products of the white devil's industry and cleverness. You know, that stuff that makes the 21st century different from the 14th - things like electricity, cell phones, cars, airplanes, antibiotics, the Internet. In short, the modern world.
To continue using them is cultural appropriation and we all know what a mortal sin *that* is.

Evergreen college is a college for those students who will never be able to complete a successful degree in a normal college/university, For one thing most institutes of higher learning grade their students. It's well known that Evergreen college students are so stupid they couldn't even get a grade, so there is a no grade policy at Evergreen.
I'm not sure what the criteria is for graduation, but suspect if they spend a certain amount of money (most of which they will never earn back), then they get to "graduate" with some BS (not bachelor of science) degree which will prove useless in the real world.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The solution in Leb, according to Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... ’s foreign minister reiterated, is to withdraw weapons from the Hezbollah terrorist group.
Speaking at on Friday at the Mediterranean Dialogue Forum in Rome Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said that Hezbollah had used Lebanese banks to smuggle and launder money for their terrorist activities.
He said that Leb is country kidnapped, by the terrorist group, Hezbollah.
In his speech al-Jubeir clarified that the Kingdom has no relations with Israel. "We have no relations with Israel and we are waiting for the grinding of the peace processor," he said. "The need for political will to reach a solution to end the Arab-Israeli conflict is paramount," he stressed.
He added that Iran has facilitated the movement of al-Qaeda members and resources.
He said that the Iranians have been unable to change the balance of power in Yemen. He considered the targeting by Iranian allies, the Houthis, of some Saudi villages as "desperate attempts" and expressed the hope that they would realize that they cannot control the Yemeni state.
Al-Jubeir said Saudi Crown Prince Prince Mohammed bin Salman had started the fight against corruption from the top. "The Saudi people are beginning to feel the restoration of their homeland," he said.
Al-Jubeir explained that Saudi Arabia has been a victim of terrorism and is engaged in a fierce war against it, stressing that the Kingdom has initiatives to combat the financing of terrorism.

[ALMASDARNEWS] Russia’s Defence Ministry released footage on Friday showing six Russian Tu-22M3 Backfire-C long-range bombers launching a joint Arclight airstrike which hit the facilities of the so-called Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. According to the Ministry’s statement, the aircraft took off from the Hmeimim airfield and hit the terrorist stronghold wiping out all targets.
The Russian MoD says that Su-30SM fighter jets took part in the military operation ensuring the security of the bombers in Syrian airspace.

We would also like to apologize for next week's launch."
[SI] the Socialist paradise of San Francisco ...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964... 49ers' Eric Reid told Slate Thursday he was told the NFL will allow funds from charitable campaigns to be shifted to fund a new social justice cause program announced this week.
Reid told Slate the plan to take away funds from breast cancer awareness and military service initiatives was one of the reasons he is breaking away from the Players Coalition. Reid and the Dolphins' Michal Thomas announced their decision to walk away Wednesday, saying we "don't believe the coalition's beliefs are in our best interests as a whole."
Reid said Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins told him of the plan to shift funds. Reid added that most of the players who have protested were not in agreement with the proposal.
"So it would really be no skin off the owners’ backs: They would just move the money from those programs to this one," Reid told Slate.
The NFL agreed to commit $89 million to social justice causes that will help African-American communities, with the money set for dealing with criminal justice reform, law enforcement/community relations and education, ESPN reported.
While the league and players did not agree to a resolution stopping players from protesting or taking a knee during the national anthem, Jenkins announced he won't raise his fist during the anthem. He said he was encouraged by the league's efforts.

Failing to nip this in the bud, the league has made this a PR and business disaster and now, shifting charitable funding to buy off the racists actually makes thus much much worse. Group think by cowardly owners afraid of their employees. They are going to lose a lot more money and fans! Idiots!!!
[YAHOO] Oppression of the opposition by Prime Minister Viktor Orban's government is greater than when Hungary was under Soviet domination, Hungarian-American financier and philanthropist George Soros ...either Ernst Stavro Blofeld or Auric Goldfinger come true... said Friday.
Soros said in video messages that he had an "unbridgeable conflict of principles" with Orban and if the Budapest-based, Soros-founded Central European University were to be expelled, it would continue operating "in exile" and return after Orban's departure.
Soros, 87, said Orban has created "an anti-democratic system ... a mafia regime where they use their leading positions to keep themselves in power and personally enrich themselves."
"He exploits and oppresses those who are in opposition. In my judgment, the regime now oppresses people more that during the Soviet occupation."
Orban, who opposes migration, especially by Moslems, claims Soros wants to flood Europe with migrants colonists.

So, they're Donks and other factions of the UniParty (who strangely enough, have a lot of money backing from Mr.Soros).

[ARABNEWS] Special women’s detention centers will be set up to hold anyone incarcerated Please don't kill me! after the ban on driving is lifted.
Labor and Social Development Ministry front man Khaled Aba al-Khail told al-Watan daily on Thursday that the ministry has been coordinating with the Interior Ministry about cases that would entail detention.
Sources told al-Watan that universities had signed agreements with the General Directorate of Traffic Police to open driving schools within their campuses to train women wishing to learn to drive. Arrangements are underway to prepare these schools by the end of February 2018.
Sources from Noura University said that trainers’ positions would be for Saudi women who hold international driving licenses.
These women would undertake a training course to improve their expertise and familiarize themselves with the basics of safe driving.
The sources added that the driving schools would target not just university staff, but interested women from outside the university.

Something like red tents?
So they will ‘detain’ any woman found driving.
[DAWN] Policemen fired on protesters from religious groups to stop them from breaking into the residence of former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan ...Former Interior Minister of Pakistain under Nawaz Sharif. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that, since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture... , critically injuring four people, says an intelligence report sent to the Islamabad chief commissioner.

Hospital for treatment, but does not contain details of their identity, or explain what subsequently happened to them.
In their situation report, Special Branch officials maintained that around at least 90-100 police personnel were present inside the former minister’s residence when around 1,500 protesters attacked the police party, which retaliated with teargas.
"Protesters broke down the main gate of Chaudhry Nisar’s residence and set fire to an adjacent CNG filling station. When they attempted to enter Chaudhry Nisar’s house, coppers fired gunshots injuring four people who were later shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital," the report said.
The former minister has already denied claims that four of those who died in the violence that broke out on Saturday were shot by coppers outside his house.
Earlier, Chaudhry Nisar had lashed out at his successor, Ahsan Iqbal, for making "baseless claims" regarding the deaths of protesters outside his residence.

[DAWN] Zim-bob-we's new president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, came under fire on Friday for unveiling a debut cabinet that named two military allies to top positions, reappointed figures from the discredited Mugabe era and sidelined the opposition.
Mnangagwa gave key jobs to two top military officers, including Sibusiso Moyo, a major general who on November 15 went on state TV to announce the military's takeover ‐ a power grab which climaxed a week later when Bob Muggsy Mugabe Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win.... quit the presidency.
According to a statement released late Thursday, Moyo was appointed foreign minister while the long-serving airforce commander, Perence Shiri, became minister of lands and agriculture, a vital job following the controversial seizure of land from white farmers nearly two decades ago.
Observers sharply criticised the lineup, and the choices drew groans of dismay from many Zim-bob-weans.
"The deployment of senior members of the military into the cabinet is profoundly shocking," said Piers Pigou of the Brussels-based think tank, the International Crisis Group (ICG).
Their appointment suggests "the army has gained so much influence in government, it is going to start to dominate government, " said Abel Esterhuyse, a strategy professor at South Africa's Stellenbosch University.

[THEAMERICANMIRROR] As the media focus has shifted to the alleged sexual harassers in the Democratic ranks, questions are not going away about Nancy San Fran Nan Pelosi Congresswoman-for-Life from the San Francisco Bay Area, born into a family of professional politicians. Formerly Speaker of the House, but it's not her fault they lost. Really. Noted for her heavily botoxed grimace... ’s continued bizarre behavior.
The House Minority Leader held her weekly presser, and while the media focused on her call for accused serial harasser John Conyers, they overlooked her frequent flubbed words, brain freezes, and face spasm that occurred seconds into the appearance.
Pelosi began the appearance by walking past a giant sign labeled "GOP tax scam."
As she got to the podium, she looked over her left shoulder for the visual, before realizing she had just walked past it.
"There it is: the GOP tax scam," she said, her face twitching.
Seconds later, she called it the "G-O-T" tax scam, before correcting herself.
Pelosi misread the sign, saying, "the ACA reform, reform, uh, uh, repeal. Sneaky ACA repeal."
She repeated herself several times.
She called the tax cut an "attack on the middle class, on Americas jobs‐ Americans’ jobs."
After trailing off while talking about an "increase," she said, "So it’s not just a crea‐ increase."
While demanding federal funding for her own priorities, Pelosi mistakenly said "wildfail," before correcting herself to say "wildfire."
She claimed legislation to protect illegal aliens has "bri-partisan" support.
Pelosi asserted "82 millial" middle class families won’t benefit from the plan, before correcting her speech and saying "million."
All of this came as she denounced Rep. John Conyers behavior and called for his resignation.
After suffering two brain freezes, she made an ironic statement: "How can you judge‐ judgement be respected if you don’t even know what you’re talking about?"
That’s what many Americans must be wondering about Nancy Pelosi these days.
