Westboro Baptists provided Mobile Training Team (MTT) to Bureau ?
[Debbie Schlussell] Incredible but true. The FBI worked with the crazy, inbred, anti-Semitic, anti-gay, anti-American Westboro Baptist Church cult in order to train to engage community activists. . . or something. How completely, totally insane is this? On the other hand, it's right in line with the FBI's Islamo-pandering to the equally hateful, extremist Muslim community.

The F.B.I. said that members of an anti-gay church took part in training of police officers and agents, a move the F.B.I. says it will take steps to remedy. The church, Westboro Baptist of Topeka, Kan., contends God is punishing the military for tolerance of homosexuality and has protested at military funerals. An F.B.I. spokesman said the group was invited "to establish open dialogue in an academic setting to train law enforcement on how to more effectively engage with the activist community."

Now you know why I call 'em, Famous But Incompetent. The name fits.

Obama ICE Queen: Forget Immigration! Let's Focus on Our "Cute Dogs"
[Debbie Schlussel] ICE Agents from all over the country have been bombarding my inbox in justifiable anger. They're mad about an e-mail they've received from Sarah R. Saldana, Barack Obama's incompetent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) chief, announcing the agency's new goal. Apparently, the illegal alien problem of 20 million-plus illegals in our country has been immediately solved and the new goal is . . .

a Cute Dog Contest.

Ms. Saldana--who is a WNBA/Dinah Shore Classic candidate if I ever saw one--wants everyone in ICE to know that her dogs Mitzi and Daisy are soooooo cute, and she wants her agents (most of whom are paid over $100,000 per year and many around $140K) to show her if their dogs are cuter. Yup, this is the important Homeland Security Mission of the day. Forget illegal aliens, which include Islamic terrorists. Forget Muslims smuggling weapons to ISIS. The important bidniz of da day is cute doggies. BTW, this is the same ICE chief who gave $113 million back to the federal government, saying she didn't need it, even as her agency deported fewer than .0002% of illegal aliens in America in the last fiscal year, a record low. She sounds like one of those crazy cat-lady hoarders who considers her dogs her "kids."

Really, you're deporting only .0002% of the tens of millions of illegal aliens in this country . . . and you're asking your agents to send in photos of cute dogs for you to judge? Seriously?

Ms. Saldana achieves the maximum of 4 Barking Moonbats.

Afghanistan
SEAL controversy shows the limits of U.S. Special Operations strategy in AFG
(WAPO) The war in Afghanistan has always been a collection of tiny wars fought from tiny outposts that have their own heroes and villains, pitched battles and murky outcomes. These miniature conflicts are formed by the character of the troops sent to fight in them, Afghanistan's austere terrain and the country's multitude of tribes. Often these wars exist separate from one another, only to be found under the larger umbrella of The War in Afghanistan. Some of these scattered battles have household names, such as the Korengal and Sangin, while others are so small that they are rarely mentioned except by those who have traversed their machine gun-raked fields and explosive-laden valleys.

The village of Kalach was one of those almost-forgotten places, and it bore little significance to the world until Thursday, when the New York Times released an exhaustive two-year-long investigative report on Kalach's terrible little war and the men who waged it in spring 2012.

The Times report details a long spell of boredom and frustration within a dusty military outpost outside of Kalach. That spell ended with a group of Navy SEALs from SEAL team 2 allegedly beating unarmed men -- and facing little consequence for doing so. And while it is unclear what brought some of America's best special operations troops to the verge of killing detainees, it's possible that it was the demands of a broader special operations strategy in Afghanistan that thrust units, such as the SEALs, into roles they had not been designed to carry out.
Key word in the above para...."alleged" but what's the harm. There were no reports of infants being devoured as in 1967.
In 2009, Gen. Stanley McChrystal took command of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan and soon implemented a widespread initiative that would task special operations troops to carry out "village stability operations," or VSOs, and to help train Afghan local police. VSOs were sporadic during the early phases of the war (2002 onward) but became the cornerstone of the United States' Afghan strategy from 2009 onward. VSOs were meant to be built around an Army Special Forces team known as an Operational Detachment-Alpha or ODA. The ODAs were to provide some reinforcement to a particular village in order to help that village develop and provide security for itself.

McChrystal's strategy, however, called for so many ODAs that there simply were not enough of them to fulfill the newfound mission requirements. Other special forces units like SEALs began to rotate with ODAs and assist with VSOs and with training Afghan local police. This was the case in Kalach, as the SEAL team arrived to replace an Army Special Forces unit in 2012, according to the Times report.

#2  No mention of how the Obama administration's mis-trust of the military caused the undercutting of McChrystal's strategy. When he asked for more troops he was either denied them outright or sent much less than he asked for. I hate the New York Times. It's a propaganda machine for the in-fallible Obama.

The New York Times Just Memory-Holed This Devastating Champ Admission
[Federalist] A story published by the New York Times late Thursday night caused some major media waves. The story, which was written by reporters Peter Baker and Gardiner Harris, included a remarkable admission by Obama about his response to the recent terror attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, California.

By Friday morning, however, the entire passage containing Obama's admission had been erased from the story without any explanation from the New York Times. Here's the passage that was included in the story when it was published Thursday night, courtesy of CNN's Brian Stelter:

In his meeting with the columnists, Mr. Obama indicated that he did not see enough cable television to fully appreciate the anxiety after the attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, and made clear that he plans to step up his public arguments. Republicans were telling Americans that he is not doing anything when he is doing a lot, he said.

The version of the New York Times story that was published early Thursday evening indicated that Obama knew he was out of touch with the country on terrorism, and he thought that was due to not watching enough television. Obama critics immediately pounced on the stunning admission from the president, expressing shock that he would claim that a lack of TV time was the real reason for him not understanding Americans' anxiety about terrorism.

As of Friday morning, however, the passage containing Obama's admission was gone. Newsdiffs.org, a web site which captures changes made to online news stories, indicates that the major revision to the NYT story happened late on Thursday night, several hours after the story was published (text with a red background and strike-through is text that was eliminated from the story; text with a green background is text that was added to the story since its last revision):

Champ Regime Belatedly Rules Chattanooga Shooting 'Terrorism'
[Investors Bus Daily] The administration has quietly reversed itself and ruled last summer's mass shooting by a Tennessee Muslim an act of foreign-inspired terrorism, just like in San Bernardino. What took it so long?

At the time of the deadly July attack on two U.S. military sites in Chattanooga, it was obvious to everyone but the Islamic apologists in the White House that shooter Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez was on a terrorist mission.

Armed with high-powered rifles, the Islamic insurgent opened fire, first on a Marine recruiting office and then a nearby Naval base, killing five U.S. soldiers.

Within days, it became clear that Chattanooga was a planned assault by a devout Muslim inspired by Islamic terror groups like the Islamic State and al-Qaida. Abdulazeez had blogged about wanting to become a martyr fighting "jihad for the sake of Allah." He chose the Muslim holy month of Ramadan to fulfill his wish.

Abdulazeez was, like Fort Hood terrorist Maj. Nidal Hasan, inspired by the writings of late al-Qaida leader Anwar Awlaki.

Yet the administration went out of its way not to label Abdulazeez a terrorist or even call what he did an act of terrorism -- which meant that the five servicemen he gunned down wouldn't be eligible for the Purple Heart, and their families would be denied the financial benefits that go along with it.

The families of the Fort Hood victims endured the same injustice after President Obama refused to call the attack an act of terror, instead referring to it as "workplace violence." Under political pressure, federal investigators in Chattanooga described Abdulazeez, ridiculously, as a "homegrown violent extremist." After weeks of investigation, they still couldn't say if what he did was terrorism.

But now, five months later, the Navy has quietly posted a press release announcing that the Muslim who gunned down sailors was indeed a foreign-inspired terrorist, and that his victims will now qualify for Purple Hearts, something we argued for earlier this year.

The statement reversing the administration's earlier ruling that Abdulazeez was just another random mass shooter and not a terrorist was snuck out late Wednesday after news deadlines.

Will the White House press corps force Obama to publicly acknowledge in his own statement that this, too, was Islamic terrorism on his watch?

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Champ Commutes 95 Sentences, And Almost All Of Them Are Crack Dealers
[Daily Caller] President Barack Obama announced two pardons and 95 commutations Friday afternoon, with the vast majority of his clemency going to dealers of crack cocaine.

The grant of clemency, timed to coincide with the Christmas holiday, is the largest such grant of Obama's presidency, and takes the total number of sentences he's commuted up to 184. The grant comes on the heels of 46 commutations Obama issued last July.

More than 40 of the commutations are for life sentences, and most of the beneficiaries will be released in April.

Despite the large number of commutations, a look at the list of beneficiaries reveal there is very little variety in the crimes they committed. For 72 of them, one of their offenses was trafficking in cocaine, and of these, all but a handful were specifically convicted of trafficking in crack cocaine (often described as "cocaine base" in criminal law).

White House Readying Release of Seventeen Gitmo Detainees
[Breitbart] The Obama administration, continuing its goal of closing the GuantĂĄnamo Bay detention camp, is readying the "transfer" of 17 "lower-level detainees" from the country, officials told The New York Times.

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter has already notified Congress of plans to move forward. Congress requests that Carter notify legislators at least 30 days before any of the men at GuantĂĄnamo are released from the base.

The Times report was confirmed with Fox News on Thursday, with a Congressional aide telling the outlet that his boss would be briefed on the plan on Friday. With the seventeen coming transfers, the GuantĂĄnamo detention facility population will move down to 90. The move would also be the largest month quantitatively for transfers since 2007.

The White House did not get into specifics about details regarding the imminent action. "I don't have any announcements about any planned transfers at this point," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters.

Sources: Obama's Gun Control Will Come After His Hawaiian Vacation
h/t Instapundit
Sources say that President Obama will drop his new gun control executive orders after he rests up in Hawaii over the holidays.

Senior congressional aides and sources in the gun-control community expect the White House to use its executive powers to tighten federal gun laws shortly after President Barack Obama returns from a Hawaiian vacation in early January.

White House mouthpiece Josh Earnest says legal review of the proposal will continue on during the holidays.

Obama has been unable to pass gun control legislation through Congress (like the Constitution requires), so he is going forward and will make his own laws. Republicans have blocked Democrat efforts to pass anti-Second Amendment legislation and Democrats have blocked GOP efforts that focus on mental health issues and gun violence.

#1  We had a 15 year-old kid, a well-liked football player, killed the other night in Knoxville. He was trying to shield three girls from the fire fight. Nice kid. He caught a slug in gang violence. The shooter was a 20 year-old gang member with a felony record and by definition, as a felon, he had an illegal firearm. I'd suggest that Obama concentrate on the gang violence and illegal firearms. China slams U.S. over 'serious military provocation' in South China Sea
China accused the United States of a serious military provocation following the flight of an American B-52 strategic bomber over disputed territory in the South China Sea. China's Defense Ministry statement said the U.S. is deliberately increasing tensions in the area. It said, ""The actions by the U.S. side constitute a serious military provocation and are rendering more complex and even militarizing conditions in the South China Sea."

Pentagon officials said they are investigating the flight path of the B-52. The military jet flew close to Cuarteron Reef in the Spratly Islands. A senior U.S. defense official said that bad weather may have contributed to the pilot flying off course and into area China claims.

Obama signs Hezbollah sanctions bill into law
[IsraelTimes] White House welcomes legislation, which some hope will limit group's cash windfall after Iran sanctions are lifted

President Barack Obama
Ready to Rule from Day One...
signed into law Friday afternoon legislation designed to tighten sanctions against the Iran-backed Leb-based Hezbollah terror organization.

The legislation, formally titled the Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act of 2015, will impose tougher sanctions on banks that knowingly do business with the organization, which has launched attacks against Israeli and Jewish targets, and provides critical support for Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...
in the ongoing Syrian civil war.

The law reached the president's desk Friday after the House of Representatives voted unanimously in favor of the bipartisan legislation on Wednesday. The Senate's legislation also passed unanimously in late November.

Similar to previous sanctions legislation directed against Iran prior to the passage of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in summer of 2015, this law directs the president to enact regulations against banks or other financial institutions that do business with Hezbollah. The United States has long included Hezbollah on its list of terror organizations.

The new law also targets the organization's satellite television station, al-Manar, by identifying those telecommunications companies that air the Leb-based channel.

In addition to aspiring to limit satellite access for al-Manar, the legislation also requires regular reports to Congress on Hezbollah's ancillary operations, including drug trafficking, transnational crime, and involvement with other international organizations as far afield as South America and Asia. The administration will also be required to list countries that have proven hospitable to the Iranian-backed organization, whether through offering support or allowing them to maintain logistical bases.

Hezbullah has returned to the attention of Washington due to its close association with Iran, as well as its critical role in the Syrian civil war, where it has deployed thousands of fighters to support Assad's Ba'athist rule.

Congressional critics of the Iran nuclear deal have warned for months that when sanctions are lifted from Iran, a move that may come as early as next month, the Lebanese organization could receive a major financial windfall from Iran's newfound wealth.

But by forcing banks to choose whether they would rather do business with Hezbollah or with the United States, this new legislation could limit some of the impact of any financial gain.

"Under President B.O.'s nuclear deal, Iran will soon hit a jackpot worth tens of billions of dollars. Even the president admits this 'windfall' of cash will go to activities and groups, including its main terror proxy Hezbollah, that pose 'a threat to us, and a threat to our allies," warned Rep. Ed Royce, one of the law's original authors. "This bill cracks down on Hezbollah's fundraising efforts, its operations in Syria, and its efforts to carry out hostilities against the United States and our ally Israel."

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) welcomed the legislation, which was sponsored in the Senate by Senators Marco Rubio and Jeanne Shaheen, and in the House of Representatives by Congressmen Royce and Eliot Engel.

Powerful IEDs found near Gaza border
[Ynet] Shin Bet, IDF suspect a large-scale terror attack against troops was planned; festivities erupt at various sites near Gazoo border fence.

A potentially devastating terror attack was foiled on Friday when IDF engineers found powerful, unwent kaboom! improvised bombs at the border with Gazoo. Some of the devices were connected to remote-controlled timers via a cell phone.
Photos of the green IED and blue cell phone at the link, for those interested.
The engineers were examining the location where a similar device detonated earlier in the week near IDF troops. It was the first time since Operation Protective Edge in 2014 that an bomb was used against IDF troops at the Gazoo border.

The Shin Bet and IDF have begun investigating the suspicion that gunnies had planned a large-scale terror attack on IDF troops near Gazoo.

Meanwhile,
...back at the alley, Bugs Moroni was holding Slats from behind while his brother Greasy Thumb was pounding his face into paste ...
medical sources in Gazoo said a 20-year-old Paleostinian died after being maimed in festivities near the Gazoo border fence. It later emerged that the individual's identity was a member of Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,'s military wing. According to the report from Gazoo, local hospitals treated about 40 Paleostinians maimed in festivities at a number of sites next to the border fence.

Rioters threw two pipe bombs at IDF troops during festivities near Erez Crossing by the border, but these went kaboom! within the Gazoo Strip and did not cause any injuries.

U.S. Says About 200 IS Jihadists Killed in N. Iraq Raids This Week
[AnNahar] Some 200 Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadists were killed by U.S.-led coalition aircraft during an intense battle in Iraq this week, a U.S. military front man said Friday.

Baghdad-based Colonel Steve Warren, who represents the U.S.-led coalition that is attacking the IS group in Iraq and Syria, said about 500 jihadists had carried out an offensive against Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga forces in the northern province of Nineveh on Wednesday.

Coalition aircraft from five nations responded and dropped nearly 100 bombs during the overnight fight, he added.

"Air power alone killed nearly 200 of them, about 187 by last count," Warren told Pentagon news hounds in a video call.

"So, a significant blow to this enemy. And then, of course, ground forces. We don't have a good count yet for how much damage the pesh (peshmerga) were able to inflict on this enemy during the course of this fairly long battle. But we know it was significant."

The multi-pronged IS offensive saw jihadist fighters target several areas including a base housing Turkish soldiers that has been at the heart of a bitter dispute between Baghdad and Ankara.

Peshmerga forces repelled coordinated attacks in Nawaran, Bashiqa, Tal Aswad, Khazr and Zardik, the Kurdistan Regional Security Council (KRSC) has said.

Warren said much of the fighting took place in Tal Aswad.

The KRSC, which is headed by de facto regional president Massud Barzani's son Masrour, previously said that more than 70 IS members were killed in the attacks.

Warren said Canadian special operations troops, who are in Iraq to help train Kurdish fighters, helped in the fight on the ground.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Israel: Iran has withdrawn most of its Revolutionary Guards from Syria
[IsraelTimes] Dozens of Iranian fighters said killed; Hezbollah, which has lost up to 1,500 men, reportedly fears anti-Assad rebels could now prevail

Iran has withdrawn most of the Revolutionary Guards fighters it deployed to Syria three months ago, Israeli security officials told The Times of Israel. The decision to withdraw the forces was likely made due to the rising number of casualties among Iranian soldiers fighting in Syria and the subsequent growing public outcry back home.

The officials confirmed the withdrawal to The Times of Israel days after a report in Bloomberg quoted American sources saying such a withdrawal was in its early stages, and after Iran issued a denial. The Israeli sources stressed, however, that most of the troops have actually now been withdrawn.

Iran sent some 2,000 Revolutionary Guards fighters to Syria in September. There are just 700-800 remaining, the Israeli sources said.
Iran sent some 2,000 Revolutionary Guards fighters to Syria in September. There are just 700-800 remaining, the Israeli sources said.

The pullout has sparked concern for Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shi'ite terror group that is also fighting alongside ally Bashir al-Assad, the embattled Syrian president.

The high number of Revolutionary Guards casualties in Syria came as a shock to Iranian commanders, notably including IRGC Al-Quds Force leader Qassem Soleimani, who has been closely following developments in the war-torn country.

While Israel does not know the precise number of Iranian fatalities, the figure is thought to have reached several dozen since September, with hundreds more maimed.

The Iranian press now publishes obituaries of IRGC fighters killed in Syria on an almost daily basis. Earlier this month, senior IRGC officer Abdul Rashid Rashwand and 14 other fighters of lower rank were buried in a single day.

Rashwand was the fifth senior IRGC officer to be killed in Syria since September, but not the last. This week also saw the death of General Hossein Faradi, a Revolutionary Guards officer who had previously commanded Afghan forces in Syria.

The reports of fatalities are creating widespread dismay in Iranian public opinion, and especially among the families of the dead and maimed. There is anguished debate over how necessary it is for Iran to deploy its fighters to Syria. This at a time when the country is preparing for parliamentary (Majlis) elections. It is also holding elections for the council to select the Islamic Theocratic Republic's next supreme leader.

Many of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's allies apparently have a good chance of being elected to the council, but the military intervention in Syria and the ensuing casualties may harm their prospects, analysts say.

Iranian forces have over the last few weeks focused their activities in the north-western area of Syria, trying to repel the advance of the "Fateh Army" -- a conglomeration of several opposition groups. The Iranians are coordinating their activities there closely with what is left of Assad's Syrian army as well as with fighters from Hezbollah.

The extraction of Iranian troops from Syria is a source of discomfort and genuine concern for Hezbollah. The Shi'ite terror group's men are worried about their prospects as the war in Syria continues, since the support they are receiving from Russian warplanes has so far failed to effect a significant change in the country's years-long civil war.

Hezbollah has seen between 1,300 and 1,500 of its fighters killed, and 5,000 injured, in battles in the Syrian civil war -- which means it has lost as much as a third of its fighting force, according to Israeli estimates cited by The Times of Israel earlier this week.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Two up, two down in attempted West Bank car rammings
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian attacker was rubbed out Friday afternoon as he tried to drive his car into Israeli security forces at the entrance to the settlement of Ofra in the northern West Bank.

A Magen David Adom team sent to the scene said that no Israelis had been maimed in the attempted attack, Channel 2 television reported. The driver's death was confirmed at the scene.

Initial reports said that the driver hit a concrete barrier and the soldiers there managed to scatter seconds before the impact. The troops then opened fire on the vehicle. The IDF said that the attack took place during widespread riots at the adjacent village of Silwad.

The attack came some two hours after a Paleostinian was shot and maimed as he tried to drive his car into security forces at the Qalandia crossing near Ramallah. No Israelis were hurt in the incident.

Also Friday, two IDF soldiers were lightly hurt during violent riots near the West Bank village of Anata, near Jerusalem, the Ynet news website said.

The soldiers, who were hit by stones, were evacuated for medical treatment in Jerusalem, while the remaining troops at the scene used riot dispersal measures to clear the crowd.

Dozens of Paleostinians also protested in the Gazoo Strip on Friday, gathering at the Gazook side of the Erez border crossing into Israel. Troops at the crossing also deployed riot dispersal measures.

China-Japan-Koreas
U.S. Military Repeatedly Shipped Live Anthrax to Korea
The U.S. Forces Korea conducted 16 tests using live anthrax samples that were delivered to USFK bases here since 2009, a joint investigation by the two countries has discovered. The investigation also found that the U.S. military brought plague bacteria samples into Korea.

In late May, when the U.S. admitted that the live anthrax samples were "accidentally" delivered to a U.S. airbase in Osan south of Seoul, exposing over 20 lab workers there to the deadly biological weapon, it claimed that only one test had been conducted. But there have apparently been many more.

Investigators claimed the samples were delivered, stored and handled according to international safety standards and that nobody was infected.

Asked why they had lied, U.S. military officials said it's what they do what they meant at the time was that it was the first time to conduct a test using anthrax samples at the Osan airbase. But other tests seem to have been conducted at USFK headquarters in Yongsan, right in the middle of Seoul.

The USFK initiated what is known as the "JUPITR" program last year amid what it perceived as an increasing threat of a biological weapons attack by North Korea. The Joint United States Forces Korea Portal and Integrated Threat Recognition program, to give it its full name, aims to increase the USFK's capability of detecting chemical and biological weapons attacks. It claims the test and training for new JUPITR equipment were first conducted in Osan.
Not sure you need live anthrax to detect CBW attacks...
The revelation in May brought a storm of criticism from the Korean public, and the Korean military was completely oblivious to the tests until the Pentagon claimed an a army facility in Utah "inadvertently" sent the live strain to nine U.S. states as well as Korea. The lab workers at the airbase kept the lethal bacteria for days without taking precautions.
Your government at work. Top. people.
There is widespread skepticism about the joint investigation here since it was based only on materials provided by the U.S. military. Korean investigators were granted just one day’s access to the lab in Osan, 72 days after the test.

To address this problem, Seoul and Washington agreed Thursday to establish new set rules for U.S. shipments of biological samples to Korea. The USFK is now required to report the type, quantity and purpose of any samples as well as the identities of senders and recipients. Both sides will conduct a joint analysis on the samples if necessary in which the Korea Customs Service also takes part.

The new regulations are legally binding, according to military officials. But inactive samples do not have to be reported, making it doubtful what force it carries.
So the new regulations are every bit as effective as the old regulations...
The USFK claims it incinerated the entire anthrax sample that was brought into Korea in May but plans to bring in more samples for further testing. The Pentagon is also conducting chemical and biological weapons response drills in Germany, Japan, Australia and other allied nations with American troop presence.

Arabia
Clashes, missiles leave Yemen truce in tatters
A Yemen ceasefire appeared to have collapsed on Friday as government forces captured two towns from rebels and the Saudi-led coalition accused the Iran-backed insurgents of firing two ballistic missiles.
Bet you're every bit as surprised as I am...
The truce has been repeatedly violated and the coalition warned on Friday that it was close to abandoning the agreement, which was aimed at helping parallel UN-sponsored peace talks and fine dining in Switzerland.

Forces loyal to President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and allied tribesmen on Friday captured Hazm, the capital of northern Jawf province, after making significant gains in the neighbouring region of Marib, tribal sources said.

A day earlier government troops captured the border town of Haradh after crossing over from Saudi Arabia, where they have been trained and equipped, military sources said. About 1,000 soldiers are involved in the operation in Haradh, an official said, adding that "intensive fighting took place" in the town, which has a population of around 25,000 people. He said dozens of renegade troops allied with the Houthi rebels had been killed.

The advancing force is now just a few kilometres away from the Red Sea port of Midi, which has been under rebel control since 2010, military sources said.

The coalition said on Friday that Saudi air defences had intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Yemen, while another struck a desert area east of the Saudi city of Najran.

The coalition warned that the ceasefire would not hold if violations persisted.
That's actually a true, if inane, statement...
Although the alliance wants the talks to succeed, "it will not adhere to the truce for long given the threat to the kingdom's territory," it said.

Turkey detains 11 ISIS suspects over U.S. consulate plot
[AlArabiya] Turkey on Thursday detained 11 more suspected members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group on suspicion of planning an attack on the US consulate in Istanbul, the Dogan news agency reported.

Those arrested are all Syrians with fake passports and include a man described as the ringleader and named as 18-year-old Abdulaziz Amin Mojbil, the agency said. The arrests took place in early morning raids in Istanbul’s Esenyurt district.

Turkey earlier this week already arrested an alleged ISIS member suspected of planning a suicide attack on the U.S. consulate in Istanbul.

Afghanistan
Rasool Sayyaf slams Taliban for defaming Islam while inaugurating new political council
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A prominent jihadi leader and former member of the Afghan parliament on Friday slammed Taliban and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group for defaming Islam.

This is not the first Abdul Rab Rasool Sayyaf
...Afghan Salafist warlord, owned by Saudi Arabia. He was the guy who invited al-Qaeda to come into Afghanistan and make themselves at home...
has taken a hard stance against the holy warrior groups, specifically the Taliban group.

In his speech during the inauguration of 'Afghanistan Protection and Stability Council', Sayyaf raised a question regarding the motive behind Taliban's dispute, saying the group has defamed Islam and the religion.

He said the ongoing insurgency in Afghanistan is not due to conflict between Muslims and Kufars but the war is waged by paid criminal and murderers.

He welcomed the ongoing peace efforts however he said the main side involved in the dispute has not been ascertained so far, insisting that the dispute should be clarified whether it is Pakistain, Taliban or al-Qaeda terrorist network.

Sayyaf also called on the government to use the former Mujahid commanders in fight against the emergent ISIS terrorist group.

In regards to the formation of the new council -- Afghanistan Protection and Stability Council, Sayyaf said the main aim of the council is to unite the Afghan people for the survival of Afghanistan and dignity of the Afghan people.

Sayyaf further added that the council members are not in favor of the collapse of the current political system and they have shared their concerns regarding the deteriorating situation of the country with President Ghani.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
he said the council's aim is to bring reforms in the system, insisting that the government should organize the constitutional Loya Jirga.

He said the Afghan nation will demand an alternative if the constitutional Loya Jirga is not organized, apparently pointing towards the formation of a transitional government or early elections.

CTD arrests suspected financier of Safoora Goth massacre
[DAWN] The counter terrorism department (CTD) on Friday tossed in the slammer
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
the vice-chancellor of a private university from Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
over charges of financing Al-Qaeda and allegedly aiding the Safoora Goth massacre, DawnNews reported.

Adil Masood Butt, a close aide and the business partner of Safoora Goth attack's main suspect Saad Aziz, was arrested by CTD from the Clifton area of the metropolis.

Giving details, the CTD sources revealed that Butt's name surfaced as the financier of the attack after the joint investigating team (JIT) interrogated another suspect, Khalid Yousuf.

The evidence of Butt's involvement was further established after his bank records were investigated, the counter-terrorism department said.

Later, addressing a presser to announce the arrest, CTD head Raja Umer Khattab said that Butt was the business partner of Saad Aziz alias Tin Tin.

"Butt had studied at Indiana University in USA and later set up his own 'College of Accountancy and Management Sciences (CAMS),' which has three branches in Karachi where around 2,000 students are studying," Khattab said.

Women controllers
Khattab said during investigation it was revealed that that there is a strong 'women operated' network working alongside this group.

The network includes Khalid Yusuf Bari's wife, Saad Aziz's wife and mother-in-law and Mufti Tauseef's wife who brainwash other women.

The CTD head claimed that Khalid Bari's wife used to spread the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
's ideology through digital means.

"These women also served the Death Eater outfits by arranging suitable matrimonial matches and funds for the terrorists," said Khattab.

He requested the general public to remain watchful while giving zakat or charity to any organization, lest they will be included in any such investigation as controller for any terrorist activity.

The highly educated suspect
Adil Butt received his early education at Saint Patrick and Saint Paul schools before moving to the United States (US) for higher studies in 1987 where he obtained an MBA degree from New York's Fordham University in 1992.

In 1994, Butt, along with his partners, opened the College of Accounting and Management Sciences (CAMS), the institute has three branches and about 2,000 students are enrolled in the institute.

In the year 2000, Butt became a follower of Dr Israr Ahmed and joined Tanzeem-e-Islami. He met Khalid Yusuf Bari, Sheba Ahmed and Dr Akmal Waheed through TI.

Later, he left TI but remained in touch with Dr Waheed and allegedly started funding the gunnies through him.

Fearing intelligence agencies, Waheed later stopped Butt from meeting and funding him directly but instead started sending a man, Umer Jalal, who collected the funds from him in NED University, where Butt worked as a lecturer.

Umer Jalal too was linked to Al-Qaeda and was a part of the terrorist network which included Akmal Waheed, Saad Aziz, Mufti Tauseef , Saleem Ahmed and SLearned Elders of Islamn Saeed, according to the CTD blurb.

At least 43 people were killed and 13 others maimed on May 14 when gunnies opened fire inside a bus carrying members of the Ismaili community near Safoora Chowk in Karachi.

Sindh Police Inspector General Ghulam Haider Jamali said 60 people were on board the bus when six gunnies entered and executed 43 passengers.

Ahmed Marwat, front man for Jundullah, a splinter group of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP), had grabbed credit for the attack.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Assad: West Approach on Syria Politicized, only Syrians Decide Their President
[ALMANAR.LB] Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Horror of Homs...
said on Thursday that selecting the country's head is an issue related solely to the Syrian people and not the Western countries, indicating that the majority of international reports about Syria are politicized and controlled by the United States.

During an interview given to DUTCH NPO2 TV channel, Assad said that the Syria is a sovereign stats who people do not accept that a foreign party comes and tells them who should govern them, stressing that he will remain in office as long as the Syrians are demanding it.

"That's why we don't respond. We don't care about it," he said.

The Syrian President pointed out that fighting terrorism should be sustainable principle rather than being a reaction caused by fear, reiterating that his policy has for long been based upon two main pillars: dialogue and fighting terrorism.

Commenting on a question about statements from La Belle France that it accepts he may be part of a solution, President Assad replied sarcastically:

"Thank them for saying that; I was packing my luggage, I had to leave, now I can stay. We never care about whatever they say. They've been saying the same for four years now. Did anything change regarding that issue? Nothing."

"This is a Syrian issue, whether it's Obama or the United States or Europe or any country, we don't care about it. As long as the Syrians want this president or any other president to be in power, he will be there. So, to say that that he's leaving now or leaving in six months or in six years, it's not their business, very simply," he added.

Regarding the Syrian refugees, Assad stated that they left because of the direct terrorist attacks, because the murderous Moslems attacked the infrastructure, and because of the Western embargo that led to the same result intended by the terrorists, whether directly or indirectly.

"I think most of those are ready to go back to their country. They still love their country, but living in Syria could be unbearable for them for different circumstances."

"You are in Syria now, you can go to the areas under our control. You can see that some of the families of the murderous Moslems or the hard boyz or the bully boys, whatever you want to call them, live under the supervision of the government and the support of the government. So, why didn't those families leave Syria?" President Assad told the Dutch journalist.

Regarding stories in the West of Syrians talking about torture and things done by the national armed forces, Assad said, "If you are torturing your people, attacking, killing, and so on, and you have the enmity of Western governments, the strongest countries in the world, the richest countries like in the Gulf, like The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, our neighbors, are against me as president or against the government, how could you withstand for nearly five years in such circumstances if you don't have public support? And how can you have public support if you are torturing your people? I mean, if you have mistakes in reality, that could happen, that would happen anywhere."

Moreover, the Syrian President noted that the European officials allowed the Saudi Wahhabi school to bring its myrmidon ideology to Europe, and that murderous Moslems are coming out from European countries, stating that if the Western powers are serious in solving the problem in Syria, they have to go and work to stop the flood and the flowing of murderous Moslems and the money and logistic support through Turkey.

Three suicide bombers attack Kurdish checkpoint near Raqqa
KOBANE – Militant group of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Friday claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on a Kurdish security checkpoint in the northern countryside of Raqqa province, northeastern Syria.

Three ISIS militants detonated explosive belts at a checkpoint for the Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Hamam al-Turkman village north of Raqqa.

Several Kurdish fighters were reported dead in the attack.

ISIS said in a statement, published by the Islamist Amaq agency on Friday, that the three jihadists “made a sacrifice to hit the ranks of the apostate Kurdish troops”, vowing to launch more such operations “wherever the enemies existed”.

Subsequent to the attack, a state of alert was reported among the YPG forces in Hamam al-Turkman village and the nearby city of Tel Abyad.

“The Kurdish forces installed new checkpoints on the roads linking the villages and towns under its control in the northern countryside of Raqqa,” a spokesman for the YPG told ARA News on the phone. “This comes in preparation to repel similar attacks by ISIS terrorists.”

Partial results show Rwandans vote to lift term limits for President Kagame
[USNEWS] The head of Rwanda's electoral commission said late Friday partial results show Rwandans have voted to lift term limits in order to allow President Paul Kagame extend his rule.
Why not just call the bastards "kings" and be done with it?
More than 98 percent from 21 out of 30 districts, representing 70 percent of registered voters, voted to lift term limits for Kagame, Mbanda Kalisa said. Kagame's supporters celebrated the announcement in the capital, Kigali.

Kagame, 58, is ineligible to run in 2017 because the Rwandan constitution limits a president to two terms. But if Rwandans approve the referendum, Kagame would be able to run for an additional seven-year term and then two-five year terms, which means he could possibly stay in power until 2034.

Kagame became president in 2000 after being Rwanda's de facto leader since the end of the country's genocide in 1994. He is credited with stabilizing the country and promoting economic growth after the mass killings, but critics say he is an authoritarian ruler who does not tolerate opposition and he is accused of human rights

[ALMANAR.LB] The Iraqi PM Haidar Abadi said that forming the "Islamic Alliance" which was announced by Saudi without consulting Iraq is a major mistake.

Baghdad was surprised by the fact the alliance excluded Iraq as well as Syria, and most of the member states lack the necessary capabilities to fight terrorism, Abadi added.

On Tuesday, the Saudi Defense Minister Mohammad bin Salman announced the formation of the alliance and claimed that it aims at "fighting terrorism" without giving further details about the nature of the targeted terror.

ISIS stones four for adultery
ERBIL – The Islamic State (ISIS) terror group stoned four of its own militants to death on charges of “committing adultery” in Shaddadi city in Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah, local sources reported on Friday.

Three local militants and a Tunisian national were accused of adultery and stoned to death on grounds of a decision by the ISIS-led Sharia Court in Shaddadi.

“The four members of Daesh were arrested in a prostitution house in the city, and they were stoned to death in front of a crowd of people in central Shaddadi on Friday,” a local media activist who witnessed the sentence told ARA News, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

The source, who preferred to stay anonymous for security concerns, confirmed that the incident was the first of its kind in Shaddadi city.

“We have never witnessed the execution of ISIS militants on charges of committing adultery before,” he said.

Speaking to ARA News, pro-ISIS media worker Abu Zainab al-Hashimi said: “Al-Hisba committee in Shaddadi has raided several houses in the city after receiving information about prostitution activities there. Several women, including Syrians, Iraqis and Tunisians, were caught committing adultery for money.”

“What surprised us the most is that several members of the Caliphate’s forces were among them. Thus the Sharia Court took the right decision of stoning them all to death, so that everyone knows that Sharia is being applied on anyone who violates the law of Allah, regardless of his or her affiliation,” Abu Zainab said.

61 banned outfits named by Senate, JuD under observation
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control on Friday presented the names of 61 proscribed organisations that have been banned from carrying out activities in the country.
An absolutely mind-numbing infestation of turbans. Guess it's the Islamic equivalent of Elks and Odd Fellows and Lions and Kiwanis.....
It must be because they're banned that they're so often active in the stories that show up on Rantburg's pages.
The following are names of the banned outfits along with dates of their proscription, as submitted by the ministry in the Senate.
  1. Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LeJ) – August 14, 2001

  2. Sipah-i-Muhammad Pakistan (SMP) – August 14, 2001

Kuwaiti Airways cancels flight rather than allow Israeli passengers
Kuwait hates Jews so much that its national airline has ditched a popular and lucrative New York-to-London flight rather than allow Israelis on its planes, authorities said Thursday.

Kuwait Airways killed the flight to spite American officials, who threatened to pull the airline’s permit to fly to the United States if they continued discriminating against Israeli passengers. The airline says they cannot allow Israelis on the planes because the Middle Eastern kingdom prohibits it citizens from doing business with citizens of the Jewish state.

“On December 15th, Kuwait Airways informed the United States Department of Transportation that they will be eliminating service between JFK and London Heathrow,” said a department spokesperson.

The airline has at least twice refused to let customers with Israeli passports buy tickets on flights from New York to London because of the Islamic state’s ban on trade with Israel.

The airline will still run its New York-to-Kuwait flight from JFK, but since Israelis are not allowed in the country, the feds cannot require them to allow Israelis on that flight.

The lawyer for Eldad Gatt, the Israeli citizen who tried to buy a ticket on the New York to London flight in the fall of 2013 and was denied, said he does not plan to drop his suit against the airline and that he would like a formal ruling that the airline is discriminating against Israelis.

Kuwait Airways officials did not return calls for comment.

Bernie Sanders'
...The only openly Socialist member of the U.S. Senate. Sanders was Representative-for-Life from Vermont until moving to the Senate for the rest of his life in 2006, assuming the seat vacated by Jim Jeffords...
' campaign on Friday threatened to sue the Democratic National Committee for suspending its access to the national voter database, saying the move threatens to undermine the Vermont senator's presidential run.
Since he's a Socialist (Big S) and not a Democrat I'd say they were perfectly justified.
Even as the campaign admitted its staffers had inappropriately reviewed and saved Hillary Clinton campaign data made available as a result of a software error, it emphatically accused the DNC of sabotage and of blatantly favoring Clinton.
Took him this long to figure that out?
"We are announcing today that if the DNC continues to hold our data hostage, and continues to try to attack the heart and soul of our campaign, we will be in federal court this afternoon seeking an immediate injunction," Sanders' campaign manager Jeff Weaver said at a press conference Friday afternoon, on the eve of the third Democratic debate.
"The leadership of the Democratic National Committee is now actively attempting to undermine our campaign. This is unacceptable," he said. "Individual leaders of the DNC can support Hillary Clinton in any way they want, but they are not going to sabotage our campaign -- one of the strongest grassroots campaigns in modern history."
Silly man. He thought he had a chance.
At issue is a revelation that Sanders' digital director Josh Uretsky -- likely along with other staffers -- took advantage of a software error this week by political data technology company NGP VAN that allowed them to see the voter file that contains vital information used by campaigns to identify and monitor voters and potential supporters.

Arabia
Soddies not to change oil strategy despite Iran’s return
Saudi Arabia will not change its strategy of defending its oil market share, despite Iran’s return, Jason Tuvey, Middle East Economist at British economic research and consulting company Capital Economics believes.

“The return of Iranian oil to the market is unlikely to prompt Saudi Arabia to abandon its oil market strategy,” Tuvey said in a report, obtained by Trend.

Iran hopes to increase its oil production by 500,000 barrels per day immediately after the international sanctions’ removal. The country’s current oil production is estimated to be around 2.8 million barrels per day, of which about one million barrels are exported.

Tuvey, nevertheless, believes the return of Iranian oil will limit the scope for Saudi Arabia to raise output further, removing a prop to growth. Earlier Tuvey said that compared to other major oil producers, Saudi Arabia is in a strong position to weather low oil prices, and so it can afford to take a long-term view of the oil market.

However, Tuvey's forecast is that the country’s GDP will slow to around 1.0-1.5 percent in 2016-17.

Saudi Arabia, by producing 10.25 million barrels per day of oil in the third quarter of 2015, ranks first among OPEC member countries in terms of crude production.

OPEC's crude oil production increased to 31.5 million barrels per day during last two years, 1.5 million barrels per day more than the determined 30 million barrels per day. OPEC members failed to reach an agreement on production ceiling on Dec. 4.

Saudi Arabia is one of the OPEC members that have seized the moment to produce more than their quota as Iran's production has shrunken under sanctions. Saudi Oil Minister Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Naimi rejected Iran's demand for cooperation by saying that the market can absorb Iran's surplus production and OPEC members do not need to reduce their output.
The Soddies prefer the money to be in their pockets.

Hezbollah Rejects Engaging Lebanon in "Suspicious" Saudi Coalition
[ALMANAR.LB] Hezbollah emphasized the absolute rejection to engage Leb in the "anti-terror" Saudi coalition, describing it as suspicious.

In a statement, the party maintained that Leb has been a pioneer in the face of all forms of terrorism-whether the chronic Israeli or the emerging takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
Hezbollah pointed out that the preliminary approval which was announced by the Lebanese PM Tammam Salam is a mere personal opinion which does not commit anyone, stressing that approving joining military alliances requires a legal and constitutional process in the government and the parliament.

"Hezbollah was surprised by the Saudi announcement which violated the Lebanese constitution and the competent norms followed."

Suspicious Alliance

Hezbollah expressed deep suspicions regarding the intentions and objectives behind the announcement of the "anti-terror" Saudi coalition, considering that it reflects that KSA and other members decided that action in response to the impositions of the US administration that is seeking an Islamic army with a specific sectarian identity to face ISIL instead of sending its infantry troops to the region.

The statement added that the coalition was hastily and suspiciously formed, what raises the questions about the worthiness of KSA to lead an anti-terror alliance while it bears responsibility for the terrorist, radical thought and provides the terrorist groups across the world with the financial and military support.

"It is no secret that Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
is involved in state terrorism
... any action taken by a non-Moslem state that constrains the violent impulses of Moslems or their allies ...
in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and supports the terrorist groups in Syria, Iraq and Yemen."

Other states that are members in the coalition supports the Saudi terrorist path, the statement noted.

"What is the nature of the terror that the coalition will fight? Who are convicted of this terror? Will the coalition fight the ongoing Israeli terrorism against the Paleostinians and the regional peoples or it will face the resistance movements?" Hezbollah asked.

Syrian Army Establishes Control over Strategic al-Sayyed Mountain in Lattakia
[ALMANAR.LB] The Syrian Arab army is advancing further in the northern countryside of Lattakia among other areas, killing more forces of Evil and destroying their heavy weaponry, SANA agency reported.

With cooperation from the popular defense groups, the army established control over the strategic al-Sayyed Mountain in the northern countryside of Lattakia province," a military source announced on Thursday.

Terrorists positioned in the area were fired at intensively, with many of them getting killed and the rest escaped, the source told SANA.

During combing operations in the mountain, the army units dismantled many bombs and mines planted by forces of Evil and found at its foot a 50 m tunnel equipped with lighting that contained vehicles and equipment used by the forces of Evil to dig trenches and tunnels to hinder the army's advance in the region, according to the source.

The new achievement came one day after the army established control over the strategic al-Noubeh Mountain in Lattakia northern countryside.

During a news conference after meeting with UN envoy Ismail Sheikh, he said that the delegation presented a protest paper to the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
for ignoring the cease-fire.

The protest paper dealt with the violations committed by the coalition aggression against many Yemeni areas which have 'turned into a military offensive,' through aerial bombardment that has also extended to Al-Jawf and Marib.

He said that the Yemeni national delegation protest came as the United Nations "hasn't been able till now to install the cease-fire that has been agreed upon before we came to Muscat."

Two days ago, the Yemeni army front man said that the situation in the Arab impoverished country witnesses escalation as the Saudi-led coalition states are violating the UN-sponsored ceasefire, warning that the Yemenis will not simply stand and watch.

"Dangerous escalation is taking place through land, sea and air by the aggressors," Brigadier General Sharaf Luqman told Sabaa news agency late on Tuesday.

The Yemeni army and the popular committees are completely committed to the ceasefire and the aggressors are taking advantage of this, the army front man said.

The Saudi warplanes did not stop to stage air raids since the ceasefire came into effect on Tuesday noon, Luqman said.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
he warned that the Yemeni army and the popular committees will not keep mum in face of such escalation and will strongly respond to the coalition violations.

Yemen Government Forces Capture Capital of al-Jawf Province as Peace Talks Go on
[VOA News] Yemeni troops loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi gained control of an important northwestern city on Friday, residents and tribal sources said, as a supposed ceasefire appeared close to collapse.
Always good to capture an enemy provincial capital or two. Helps the peace talks along, y'know?
The one-week truce was declared to aid the chances of success of peace talks that were expected to resume in Switzerland on Friday, in an effort to end the civil war that erupted in Yemen last year.

Al-Hazm, capital of the northwestern al-Jawf province, had been under the control of the dominant Iranian-allied Houthi group until the pro-Hadi forces captured it after two days of fighting.

The sources said the Hadi loyalist troops had also gained control of al-Labnat military base near al-Hazm, which had been under the control of the Houthi militia and their allies, fighters loyal to former President Ali Abdallah Saleh.

India building top-secret nuclear city?
India is building a top-secret nuclear city to produce thermonuclear weapons, and when completed in 2017, the facility would be the subcontinent's "largest military-run" complex of nuclear centrifuges, a leading American foreign policy journal has claimed.
H-bombs? That will tighten sphincters in Islamabad and Beijing...
The secret city in Challakere, in Karnataka, could "upgrade" the country as a nuclear power and unsettle its two major neighbours - Pakistan and China, Foreign Policy journal said in an investigative report.

"But another, more controversial, ambition, according to retired Indian government officials and independent experts in London and Washington, is to give India an extra stockpile of enriched uranium fuel that could be used in new hydrogen bombs, also known as thermonuclear weapons, substantially increasing the explosive force of those in its existing nuclear arsenal," the report said.

The city when completed in 2017 would be "the subcontinent's largest military-run complex of nuclear centrifuges, atomic-research laboratories, and weapons- and aircraft-testing facilities", the report said.

The independent Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) estimates that India already possesses between 90 and 110 nuclear weapons, as compared to Pakistan's estimated stockpile of up to 120. China has approximately 260 warheads.

The report does not contain any official response from either the Indian or the US government, but has quoted several unnamed officials and retired government officials for the story.

"Mysore is being constantly monitored, and we are constantly monitoring progress in Challakere," a former White House official has been quoted as saying in the report.

Challakere is nearly 260km from Mysore.

Europe
US missile site in Romania completed
The US and NATO have announced the completion of a new missile site in southern Romania to supposedly thwart potential threats from the Middle East, Press TV reported.

A joint statement issued Friday by Romania and the US said the "major military components of the Aegis Ashore Missile" system in the southern town of Deveselu have been handed over to the US Navy and US European Command. The Aegis Ashore site includes a powerful radar, missile interceptors and communications equipment and is expected to be ready for initial combat use in early 2016. The missile site has been handed over to military commanders and will be integrated with NATO's broader ballistic missile system.

"Between now and the summer, military operators will train and conduct exercises and additional testing, readying for a NATO Initial Operational Capability," said Vice Admiral James D. Syring, director of the Missile Defense Agency.

The United States has previously claimed that the system is designed to defend Europe against potential attacks from Iran.

Russia has objected to the deployment, but the US and NATO have said that it does not have the capacity to threaten Russia.
Correct statement unless the Rooshun ballistic missile threat is a lot, lot less than the Rooshuns say it is. That's never happened, of course...

PC students at Dunham's college offended by lack of fried chicken
[NYPOST] Gastronomically correct students at an ultra-liberal Ohio college are in an uproar because the cafeteria food isn't ethnically accurate enough.

Students at Oberlin College are so angered by the "insensitive" and "culturally appropriative" offerings at their Dascomb Dining Hall that they are filling screeds of protest in the school newspaper and even demanded a meeting with Campus Dining Service officials and the college president.

At issue are foods such as General Tso's chicken being served with steamed chicken instead of fried -- which is not authentically Chinese, and simply "weird," one student bellyached.

Others were up in arms over Banh Mi Vietnamese sandwiches served with coleslaw instead of pickled vegetables on ciabatta bread -- rather than traditional French baguette.
Yeah, and the duck eggs were barely fermented. You could actually stand the stench.
Perhaps this could be solved if only the Board of Trustees raised tuition by another $10,000...

Old Dixie Highway renamed in honor of Obama in Riviera Beach
[SUN-SENTINEL] Riviera Beach renamed Old Dixie Highway in honor of President Barack Obama during a ceremony on Thursday, a change that city officials say will help move the community past its segregated history.

It is the second road in Palm Beach County to be named in honor of the 44th president, county officials said. Two years ago, Pahokee in western Palm Beach County renamed East First Street to Barack Obama Boulevard.

U.N. council endorses Syria peace plan; no agreement on Assad's fate

...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
Security Council on Friday unanimously agreed a resolution endorsing an international roadmap for a Syria grinding of the peace processor, a rare show of unity among major powers on a conflict that has claimed more than a quarter million lives.

"This council is sending a clear message to all concerned that the time is now to stop the killing in Syria and lay the groundwork for a government that the long-suffering people of that battered land can support," U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry

The resolution came after Russia and the United States clinched a deal on a text. The two powers have had very different views on what should happen in Syria, where Islamic State

Interior minister wants to rid Islamabad of illegal seminaries
[DAWN] Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan
...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
wants to rid the capital city of illegal madressahs and their students. But for that, he needs across-the-board political support which he sought on the floor of the National Assembly on Friday.

Sharing the concerns of some of his fellow politicians about madressahs which have been unlawfully constructed on government land, the minister said, "The problem is not as simple as it looks from outside because there are 25,000 madressah students in the city." He said it wasn't the present government which allowed the extensive use of greenbelts for the construction of seminaries.

Chaudhry Nisar said it was not possible for the government to confront all the illegal madressahs through the police. "We have already seen the result of the use of force in the case of Lal Masjid
...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...
where 100 students bit the dust in a military operation in 2007. Yes, there is a problem which needs to be tackled in a peaceful manner."

The minister said there were certain issues regarding these seminaries which he could not talk about publicly and would suggest an in-camera discussion. However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
he added, "Whatever this house will suggest, the government will follow that course of action."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Future of Turkish-Israeli relations depends on Iran
Despite the tension in relations between Turkey and Israel, which emerged in 2010, the two sides always acted with restraint and kept the situation in control.
One side did, anyways, but do go on...
One had the feeling that the crisis between the two countries was needed both for Turkey and Israel. Turkey, having lowered its diplomatic relations with Israel, acted in the region as a defender of Muslims. Israel was proving its rightness by not making concessions to Turkey, which was more intended for the country's public.

But at the same time, the countries held secret negotiations, and the Turkish foreign minister doesn’t hide this fact. All this happened before the crisis in relations between Russia and Turkey started.

Turkish media said that Turkey and Israel have tentatively agreed to normalize relations in Switzerland. It is reported that within the framework of the agreement reached, Israel will pay compensation in the amount of $20 million to the families of Turkish citizens killed during the incident on the “Freedom Flotilla” ship in 2010.
Doesn't sound like a good idea -- pay blood money so that Turkey will then deign to buy natural gas that it desperately needs?
The blood money was agreed to the last time Mr. Erdogan -- then only a prime minister -- negotiated with Israel... but then he had a temper tantrum about something or other, and the money was not paid. As for the natural gas, remember that he who turns on the spigot can also turn it off. As Russia has demonstrated on more than one occasion, including the present.
It also reported that Turkish foreign ministry adviser Ferudin Sinirlioglu confirmed talks on the normalization of relations between the countries.

The sides didn’t agree regarding the third requirement of Turkey, a complete lifting of the blockade of Gaza. But Israel will let humanitarian supplies pass to Gaza within the framework of the agreement.
Does 'humanitarian supplies' include cement for the tunnels and rocket launching pads?
However, this information hasn’t been confirmed or denied by Turkish officials yet, and it is most likely that the authorities of Turkey and Israel won’t be commenting on all these messages for some time.

If Turkey and Israel are able to restore previous relations, Israel will mainly benefit as a result of this.

After the relations between the two countries deteriorated, Ankara canceled a military treaty with Israel. As a result, the Israeli Air Force lost the Turkish airspace, used for "training" flights for many years. There is no doubt that in case of resuming the relations with Turkey, Israel will once again use the airspace of the republic. This will allow it at least partially controlling the north of Syria, Iraq and western Iran. In fact, these are the countries that are hostile towards a Jewish state in the Middle East and having no close relations with Turkey.
On the other hand, without Israeli technicians Turkey's Israeli drones quickly became unable to fly. No doubt other bits of Turkey's Israeli military technology also languished without kosher hands at the tiller, or whatever.
The second important point for Israel is that earlier, the Turkish intelligence agencies shared the intelligence data with those of Israel. Earlier, the Turkish media reported that Israel did not provide Turkey with any intelligence data.
Because the Turks would have passed the info on to Iran?
In case of resuming the relations between the countries, the National Intelligence Agency (Mossad) and the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) are expected to cooperate.
Lots of Muslimly reliable people have been moved into slots formerly occupied by competent ones in Turkey in recent years. Such assumptions may prove to be overexcited.
As for the Israeli gas supplies to Turkey, which are presented as the main cause of restoring the relations, the countries can get the mutual benefit from these supplies in the end.
Though the spigot may get unexpected exercise until certain uncontrollable impulses become controlled.
But the question arises here. How long will the warm relations between Turkey and Israel last amid the military conflicts in Syria and Iraq if the countries resume them?

Oddly enough, Russia’s growing influence in Syria and Iraq also strengthen Iran’s position in these countries which doesn’t meet Israel’s and Turkey’s interests. Aside from Iran, the Lebanese ‘Hezbollah’ movement, which is hostile to Israel, also strengthens its positions in the region.

Participating in the military operations in Syria against the IS terrorist group (ISIS, ISIL, or Daesh), ‘Hezbollah’ is gaining more experience which poses a serious threat to Israel.
Lots of experience, lots of deaths. And perhaps a better understanding of who the real enemies are.
There is no a guarantee that the supporters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad won’t use these skills against Israel.
Mr. al Assad has been carful never to go against Israel. It isn't likely he'd ask others to do so on his behalf.
On the other hand, if Syria, which so strongly relies on Russia’s and Iran’s support, becomes a winner of the war (it is highly likely), it can raise the Golan Heights issue sooner or later. If Assad gains victory, it will be a complete fiasco for Turkey’s foreign policy and can strongly affect the domestic political situation in the country.

Assad’s victory in the Syrian war and Iran’s strengthening in the region doesn’t meet the interests of Turkey and Israel and it can make these two countries even closer to each other.
If true then it's all the more reason why Israel should hold out for a better deal.

Hagel: Obama ordered him to 'stand down' when Assad crossed red line
Behind a subscription wall at Foreign Policy. A few choice tidbits here, courtesy of Hot Air:
Jet-lagged from a long overseas trip, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel had just sat down with his wife for a quiet dinner at an upscale Italian restaurant in northern Virginia when his phone rang. It was the White House on the line. President Barack Obama wanted to speak with him.

It was Aug. 30, 2013, and the U.S. military was poised for war. Obama had publicly warned Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad that his regime would face consequences if it crossed a “red line” by employing chemical weapons against its own people. Assad did it anyway, and Hagel had spent the day approving final plans for a barrage of Tomahawk cruise missile strikes against Damascus. U.S. naval destroyers were in the Mediterranean, awaiting orders to fire.

Instead, Obama told a stunned Hagel to stand down. Assad’s Aug. 21 chemical attack in a Damascus suburb had killed hundreds of civilians, but the president said the United States wasn’t going to take any military action against the Syrian government. The president had decided to ignore his own red line — a decision, Hagel believes, that dealt a severe blow to the credibility of both Obama and the United States. …

In the days and months afterward, Hagel’s counterparts around the world told him their confidence in Washington had been shaken over Obama’s sudden about-face. And the former defense secretary said he still hears complaints to this day from foreign leaders.

“A president’s word is a big thing, and when the president says things, that’s a big deal,” he said.

Canadian forces help Peshmerga repel ISIS attack
[Rudaw] Wednesday's lengthy firefight between Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) Lions of Islam and Kurdish Peshmerga forces on multiple front-lines were the deadliest ISIS-offensive since the deployment of western trainers to Iraq more than a year ago.

After ISIS attacked in at least five different locations with jacket wallahs, vehicle-borne improvised explosives (VBIEDs) "boom-mobiles, mortars and rockets" the Kurds, on Thursday, launched a counter-offensive.

They were joined by 69 Canadian special forces who, while there as trainers, gave supporting fire to their Peshmerga allies.

At least six Peshmerga were killed and 13 maimed in these confrontations. They killed about 70 of the attackers. None of the Canadians sustained any casualties or injuries.

"They [the Peshmerga] came under effective fire and our guys were close enough and able to respond with fire on those ISIL positions," Canadian Maj.-Gen Charles Lamarre told CBC News.

He tried to downplay the fact that these forces were engaged in a combat role, even, albeit briefly, by adding that, "Our guys are always prepared because it's a dangerous environment and they need to defend not only themselves but the forces with which they are training and providing assistance."

According to Vice News Lamarre also stressed that the Canadians only engaged in fighting with ISIS when their Kurdish allies came under fire.

Canada's Defense Minister, Harjit Sajjan, congratulated his troops for their response. "These actions illustrate the valuable contribution our forces are making to the [Peshmerga] and the fight against ISIL," he stated.

Canadian forces, operating under an advisory role, have exchanged fire with ISIS on one other occasion in the past.

They have also been used as spotters to provide Peshmerga forces with coalition air strikes. The two Canadian CF-18 jets supported the Canadian-Kurdish counter-attack on Thursday are set to be withdrawn by the Canadian government next March as per the new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wish.
The New York Times adds:
“I think their principal objective was probably to conduct a spoiling attack,” said Brig. Gen. Mark Odom, the senior American officer in northern Iraq, referring to the possibility that the attack may have been intended to disrupt moves to encircle and eventually capture Mosul.

“As attacks go, they were pretty significant,” General Odom added. “The last time we had a serious attack was on 6 July.”

Virginia county closes schools as Islam assignment prompts backlash
[REUTERS] Schools in a Virginia county closed on Friday as a safety precaution after a class assignment asking students to practice Arabic calligraphy using a Muslim statement of faith sparked an angry outcry from parents and threats against school officials.

Augusta County Public Schools officials said no specific threat had been made against students, but some calls and emails received by the district posed a risk of harm to school officials.

The outcry appeared to reflect anxiety and distrust of Muslims among some Americans following a Dec. 2 shooting that killed 14 people in San Bernardino, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, by a married couple inspired by Lion of Islam Islamism and attacks in Gay Paree by Islamic State

gunnies on Nov. 13 that killed 130 people.

Some messages to the Virginia school district contained profane and graphic content, including a call to behead the teacher who gave the assignment, Augusta County Sheriff Randy Fisher said.

Others threatened large protests on or near school property in the district, located in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley about 150 miles (240 km) southwest of Washington, officials said.

The Arabic text, according to the News Leader newspaper, translated as "There is no God but Allah, and Mohammad is the messenger of Allah."
The catch is, once you say it, even by mistake or under coercion, you're a Moslem, and if you decide to become something else you have to be killed.
Some parents have accused the teacher, Cheryl LaPorte, of trying to indoctrinate students with Islam and are calling for her to be fired.

"I do not trust her to teach my son and regardless of the outcome he will not sit in her classroom," mother Kimberly Herndon said in a Facebook post that has been shared more than 300 times.

The district decided to begin the school system's winter break early and canceled extracurricular activities this weekend for the district's 10,000 students, Superintendent Eric Bond said in a statement.

The only way the teacher/propagandist could have made that goal more obvious would be to have the students practice calligraphy for the Arabic and Farsi slogans of "Death to America".
By the way "almawt li'amrika" is on the Houthi flag in Yemen, in Arabic of course.

Terrorism case registered against organisers of pro-Qadri rally
[DAWN] KARACHI: Police on Friday registered a terrorism case against the organisers of a rally staged for the release of Mumtaz Qadri, the self-confessed killer of Punjab

2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

governor Salman Taseer.

The rally was organised by the Tanzeemat-e-Ahle Sunnat, an alliance of certain religious parties, demanding the release of Qadri whose appeal against the death sentence has recently been turned down by the apex court.

Vehicular traffic was suspended on the arterial M. A. Jinnah Road when scores of protesters, mostly students of seminaries, marched towards Numaish from Gurumandir causing a traffic mess on adjoining roads.

In a bid to open the road for traffic, the police baton-charged the protesters and tossed in the calaboose

It quickly fell to trading fisticuffs and assassinations with the MQM and the Sipah-e-Sahaba, with at least a half dozen of its major leaders rubbed out. Sunni Tehreek arose to become the primary opposition to the Deobandi Binori Mosque, headed by Nizamuddin Shamzai, who was eventually bumped off by person or persons unknown. ST's current leadership has heavily criticized the Deobandi Jihadi leaders, accusing them of being sponsored by Indian Intelligence agencies as well as involvement in terrorist activities...
, one of the parties in the alliance, said that the police resorted to a baton charge on "the peaceful rally and arrested several participants".

He said that a protest sit-in was staged at Numaish for the release of the held workers. "Our leader Shahid Ghori talked to the authorities for the release of workers. We ended our sit-in following the release of the workers," he added.

SP-Jamshed Dr Fahad Ahmed told Dawn that protesters attacked police mobile vans to get their accomplices released. "Some of our men were also injured," he added.

Violent clashes in Ajdabiya: council member among dead
Tripoli, 18 December 2015:

Continuing heavy clashes in Ajdabyia which broke out on Wednesday between the pro-Islamist Adjabiya Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council (ARSC) and Salafist fighters supporting the Libyan National Army (LNA) have left some 17 people dead, according to the local reports. A further 27 have been wounded; they include non-comnbatants.. The fighting started when a member of Al-Sharia, part of ARSC, was accused of murdering a local man outside a mosque. Salafist youths quickly joined the fight which then spread.

“The clashes started between a Salafist group linked to the LNA and an Ansar Al-Sharia group in the western suburb of the town,” a local resident told the Libya Herald. “No formal units of the army have entered the town today apart from some members of 302 brigade which secures the western side of Benghazi city,” he added.

One of the those killed today was said to be local municipal councillor Abdulmonem Al-Fakieh, who was close to the clashes. He was shot apparently by a stray bullet.

Ajdabiya mayor Salem Jadhran has called for a ceasefire and for the combatants to respect the town’s civilian population. He is reported saying there had been indiscriminate shelling of residential areas but that the two sides had agreed to stop fighting today. The ARSC, however, is reported to have said that no truce had been accepted.

The clashes came after the mayor had rejected an announcement by the LNA that it was going to target ARSC positions in the town. He claimed that local forces could deal with the militants themselves.

Salem’s brother, Ibrahim Jadhran has kept his Petroleum Facilities Guards out of the fight although they have been seen mobilising in Ajdabiya’s suburbs.

Meanwhile, the local Mohamed Magarief hospital says that it is having to deal with the wounded despite acute shortages of medical supplies including anaesthetics and blood for transfusions, and of staff because of the dangerous situation. A spokesman said that it was working round the clock, denying reports that it had been evacuated because of the fighting.

Expressing his own concern about the Ajdabiya fighting, UN Special Anvoy Martin Kobler said today that civilians had to be protected and that anyone involved in indiscriminate attacks and attacks targeting civilians could find themselves been prosecuted for war crimes. The fight against terrorism, he said, “has to respect international humanitarian principles”.

This Week in Guns, December 19th, 2015

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

You'll note that .223 Remington/5.56mm ammunition prices have risen dramatically in the wake of the San Bernadino massacre by $0.04 each.

Average prices for used AR pattern rifles have declined since last year by $6. The highest average price since last year is $16 higher while the lowest average price has declined -- dramatically -- by $50. The median price from last year has risen by almost $6.

The average number of used AR rifles in the five state markets this column follows actually declined since last year from 268 to 218. All five markets show declines in the average number of rifles available for private sale. Declines are as follows (in order of magnitude): Virginia: 42 percent; Pennsylvania: 20.6 percent; Florida: 14.9 percent; Texas: 11 percent; California: 7 percent.

Now for a different report, a range report (at 200 yards):

600 rounds fired
0 Misfires
2 jams

Rounds hitting the paper: 30
Rounds hitting the target: 10
Rounds hitting the bulls eye: 0

The jams were casings that became stuck in the firing chamber. In the AK they are impossible to dig out; you must remove the muzzle brake and tap the spent cartridge out from the muzzle end.

Trying to fire from a crouch position I missed everything, every time. I tried to split the target into quadrants and fired at each quadrant from the crouch position. The only thing I could do (from a sitting position) was hit one quadrant.

It's a lot harder than it sounds, especially with this 60 grain ammo.

From Weapons Man comes this discussion on just how much accuracy do you need:

Time after time I look through the popular gun boards and see users with Larue OBR, PredatARs and Noveske rifles doing rapid fire mag dumps at targets no further away then 50 yards. Most the time it is on man sized targets and they have mounted the popular T-1 or eotech or something there about.

Why do they need a gun that shoots 1/4 MOA to hit a man sized target across the room? Some of them do not even take the gun off of a benchrest and restrict their shooting to 25 yards incredibly. I have even seen some shooting these match rifles using military surplus ball ammo. They do not even bother with the match ammo it takes to achieve the precious level of accuracy they so badly wanted and paid for.

The biggest mind boggler to me is the mag dumps. Sure the rifles can handle it, but that accuracy level of the barrel will only last so long and after a certain number of rounds fired, it will go from 1/4 or 1/2 to 1 MOA or 2 or even larger depending on what goes bad or wears first.

From Sipsey Street Irregulars comes a report that the cops, the only ones firing .223/5.56mm rifles, were likely responsible for four of the nine dead in Waco last spring. It's a mess.

I have been hammering this point for months: the ATF and FBI are illegally sharing information from Form 4473. A law is on the books which forbids the government from having this information. An apparent ATF rule requires FFLs to transcribe information taken from the form to a separate book. Last week I pointed out that the New York state police were the latest beneficiaries of this illegal act by the government. They are being given information that will help the police in later confiscation efforts.

According to this report, information taken from NICS queries are being used to compile a gun registration database.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Prices for pistol ammunition were mostly lower and prices for rifle ammunition were mixed.

Prices for .223 Remington 55 grain ammunition jumped once again to .25 cents per round, $0.01 per round higher than the previous week and $0.03 per round higher the week before that.

Also repeating this note from two weeks ago (before prices jumped) (quoting): Note, also that the price for .223 55 grain ammunition is the lowest it has been since last year at $0.21 per round.

Prices for used pistols and for used rifles were mixed.

New Lows:

Texas: .40 caliber S&W (Glock or other semiautomatic): $250
Pennsylvania: .223/5.56mm (AR Pattern Semiautomatic): $480

#1  Nice Weapons Man link.

#2  It's funny, I go to the range and generally see people with AR's that have big powerful scopes on them, 3x9 in 40mm tubes, etc. They almost always fire from seated positions using bipods.

Even though my carbine is in .308, all I have is iron sights and a eotech holographic though I'm going to send that in for the refund. I doubt mine has the problem but I can find a cheaper one. It doesn't magnify, but it did have the ballistic reticle, so sight in at 200, at 300 yards go up a dot. Anyway, I never see them shoot prone, standing, sitting or kneeling. They also never fire super fast or anything but really controlled rates. I like to practice from several positions if possible. I have a forward grip instead of a bipod. I figure if there's trouble and I really need the thing, a bunch of long range gadgets are only going to get me into legal trouble or I'll take long shots with the .270 Ruger w/Leopold scope.

#3  Eotech... excellent choice. .308 is another good choice. Iron sights, well...when all the batteries are gone, that's what we'll have left. We'd better know how to use them.

Yemen Cease-Fire Violation Endangers U.N.-Mediated Peace Talks
[WSJ] Talks to end Yemen’s months-long war were in danger of collapse on Friday, as the country’s Houthi rebels and the Saudi-led military coalition fighting to unseat them accused each other of violating a week-long cease-fire.
Now why would a little shooting endanger a ceasefire agreement?

Turkey Kills 54 Kurdish Militants in Major Crackdown
[ALMANAR.LB] Turkish security forces have killed 54 Kurdish gunnies during a major operation to root out Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) rebels from two urban centers, official media said on Friday.

"Fifty-four bandidos bully boyz have been neutralized" in in the southeastern towns of Cizre and Silopi, the state-run Anatolia news agency said, using the customary official euphemism for the killing of Kurdish hard boys.

The operation began on Tuesday, with 25 gunnies killed in first two days. But the latest figure more than doubled the number of casualties, implying a heavy toll during Thursday's fighting inside the towns.

The vast operation, which is now in its fourth day and reportedly involves some 10,000 troops, is centered on two towns -- Cizre and Silope, both of which are in the Kurdish-dominated Sirnak province where the military has imposed blanket curfews.

The government says the operation is needed to eliminate gunnies who were effectively taking over the towns by building barricades and digging trenches.

But Kurdish activists have accused the army of acting with impunity and turning large parts of the towns to rubble.

Images from the area show troops clashing with gunnies in the otherwise deserted streets. Cizre has a population of some 100,000, and Silopi more than 80,000.

The operations mark a new escalation in five months of fighting with the PKK since a two-and-a-half year truce collapsed in July.
