Discovery: The Moment Of Conception Marked By Stunning Flash Of Light [VIDEO]
[Daily Caller] The moment of human conception is marked by a bright flash of light, scientists have discovered.
Most interesting! Both coming and going it might seem.
In amazing new footage from Northwestern University of the moment a human sperm makes contact with an egg, a bright flash of light is seen, which scientists found is the result of an explosion of zinc from the egg triggered by the sperm.

"It was remarkable," Northwestern professor Teresa Woodruff, one of the study’s two senior authors, told The Telegraph. "We discovered the zinc spark just five years ago in the mouse, and to see the zinc radiate out in a burst from each human egg was breathtaking."

The flash of light was brighter in some of the eggs than others, which Woodruff and the other study authors think indicates a healthier egg, since zinc is a major factor in the catalyst of growth and change into a new organism. They are hopeful the discovery could help doctors choose the right embryo to implant into a woman trying to get pregnant by in vitro fertilization.

"It’s a way of sorting egg quality in a way we’ve never been able to assess before," Woodruff added. "All of biology starts at the time of fertilization, yet we know next to nothing about the events that occur in the human."

#2  I was working in a home darkroom centuries ago, and was sucking on some hard candy. I had already noticed that peeling the paper backing off the undeveloped film gave off a lot of light right as the film separated from the paper. I could only see this when my eyes were completely dark adapted. I also saw a lot of light when I bit down to crack the candy between my teeth in that darkness, it seemed to be emitted from the cracks as they formed, very short flash & then dark again.

Longtime Dem Congressman Embroiled in Corruption Charges Loses Primary
Rep. Chaka Fattah (D., Pa.), who is currently facing more than two dozen corruption charges that include bribery and racketeering, has lost his congressional primary in Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania State Representative Dwight Evans defeated Fattah by six percentage points, according to election returns.

Fattah first entered Congress in 1995 and has easily won each of his elections since. However, four Democratic challengers jumped into the 2016 race, sensing vulnerability stemming from his current legal troubles.

A PPP poll conducted in January showed he trailed Evans by 16 points. Much of his trouble stemmed from his legal charges, as only 39 percent polled said they had a favorable view of the Fattah.

Fattah and four associates were indicted in July of last year on 29 corruption charges that stemmed from their roles in a racketeering conspiracy that included schemes to "further their political and financial interests" by misappropriating hundreds of thousands of dollars of federal, campaign, and charitable funds.

The Department of Justice said that Fattah took an illegal $1 million loan from a wealthy supporter during his failed Philadelphia mayoral campaign in 2007 and disguised the funds as a loan to his consulting company.

Arabia
Saoodi Arabia strips religious police of arresting power
Saudi Arabia has stripped its religious forces of their powers to arrest, urging them to act "kindly and gently" in enforcing Islamic rules.

Under changes approved by the Saudi cabinet on Wednesday, religious officers will no longer be allowed to detain people and instead must report violators to police or drug squad officers, the official Saudi Press Agency said.

Officers of the Haia force, also known as the Mutawaa, must "carry out the duties of encouraging virtue and forbidding vice by advising kindly and gently" under the new rules, it reported.

"Neither the heads nor members of the Haia are to stop or arrest or chase people or ask for their IDs or follow them - that is considered the jurisdiction of the police or the drug unit," the regulations say.

Saudi Arabia's religious police enforce the country's interpretation of Islamic law including segregation of the sexes, ensuring that women cover themselves from head-to-toe when in public.

Formally known as the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, its members also patrol shops to make sure they are shuttered during time prayers.

Frederick Mayer dies at 94
[WAPO] Frederick Mayer was a person, a friend once observed, whose "fear nerve is dead." A German-born Jew, he fled his home in the Black Forest in 1938 and made a new life in the United States, then ventured back into Nazi Europe as a U.S. spy.

His exploits -- parachuting onto an Alpine glacier, infiltrating enemy lines, posing as a German officer to gather vital intelligence, and enduring lengthy torture sessions before essentially negotiating the surrender of the city of Innsbruck, Austria -- seemed in hindsight the stuff of movies. "Inglourious Basterds" (2009), director Quentin Tarantino’s historical fiction about justice-seeking Jewish American soldiers during World War II, could have been modeled after Mayer and his comrades.

Mr. Mayer, who was described at times as a "real inglorious bastard," died April 15 at his home in Charles Town, W.Va. He was 94 and had been diagnosed with pancytopenia, a blood deficiency, said a daughter, Claudette Mayer.

Mr. Mayer once told an interviewer that he had a "good combination of hatred and love" -- a "hatred of the Nazis and a love for America." The son of a decorated World War I veteran, he had seen his family pushed from its homeland by a regime that would slaughter six million European Jews in the Holocaust.

After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Mr. Mayer enlisted in the U.S. Army. "It felt like I had my chance to do what I set out to do -- kill Nazis," he said in the TV film "The Real Inglorious Bastards" (2012). "That’s why all the Jewish boys joined."

#1  On the morning of May 3, 1945, the American 103rd Infantry Division of the Seventh Army was ordered to take Innsbruck. When the troops got closer to the city, they saw an approaching car with a white banner made out of a bed sheet. Major Bland West, an intelligence officer, saw a young man with a swollen face jumping out of the car. He introduced himself as Lt. Mayer of the OSS, and explained that he was going to take the major with him to accept the German surrender. Later on West found out that Mayer was a sergeant. Thus, the German troops in this area surrendered to an American sergeant, a Jewish emigrant from Germany.

None of the suspects had a background posing a security risk or any association with a terror organization. During the search in the apartment in Jabel Mukaber, no weapons were found.

Large forces have been stationed in popular areas with the police presence being particularly beefed up in the Temple Mount and its vicinity. Jerusalem police units will also be augmented with hundreds of police volunteers.

Despite the security situation in Jerusalem, the Western Wall Tunnel in the Old city continues to be filled with tourists, the vast majority of whom hail from foreign countries.

Why vote for Trump
h/t Instapundit
Donald Trump has a message for celebrities who say they'll leave the country if he's elected president: Pack your bags.

The Republican presidential front-runner said Tuesday on 'Fox & Friends' that purging the United States of Rosie O'Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg and Lena Dunham would be a pot sweetener if he wins the White House.

'We'll get rid of Rosie? Oh, I love it. Now I have to get elected!' he said during an early morning phone-in interview.

'Now I have to get elected because I'll be doing a great service to our country. I have to. Now it's much more important. In fact I'll immediately get off this call and start campaigning right now.'

Cartels Help Terrorists get to U.S. ISIS Militant Omar Khabir Among Them
[Judicial Watch] Mexican drug traffickers help Islamic terrorists stationed in Mexico cross into the United States to explore targets for future attacks, according to information forwarded to Judicial Watch by a high-ranking Homeland Security official in a border state. Among the jihadists that travel back and forth through the porous southern border is a Kuwaiti named Shaykh Mahmood Omar Khabir, an ISIS operative who lives in the Mexican state of Chihuahua not far from El Paso, Texas. Khabir trained hundreds of Al Qaeda fighters in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Yemen and has lived in Mexico for more than a year, according to information provided by JW's government source.

Now Khabir trains thousands of men--mostly Syrians and Yemenis--to fight in an ISIS base situated in the Mexico-U.S. border region near Ciudad Juárez, the intelligence gathered by JW's source reveals. Staking out U.S. targets is not difficult and Khabir actually brags in an Italian newspaper article published last week that the border region is so open that he "could get in with a handful of men, and kill thousands of people in Texas or in Arizona in the space of a few hours."
He could, no doubt, kill a few. But they go armed down there, and don't take kindly to killers.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Claudia Ruiz, Mexico's top diplomat, says in the article that she doesn’t understand why the Obama administration and the U.S. media are "culpably neglecting this phenomenon," adding that "this new wave of fundamentalism could have nasty surprises in store for the United States."
Oughtn't Mexico do something about this scorpion's nest in its midst? Since they know about it and talk about it so openly -- and apparently are quite confident the scorpions will never attack them...
This disturbing development appears on the Open Source Enterprise, the government database that collects and analyzes valuable material from worldwide print, broadcast and online media sources for the U.S. intelligence community. Only registered federal, state and local government employees can view information and analysis in the vast database and unauthorized access can lead to criminal charges. Updated data gathered on Khabir reveals he's 52 years old and was ordered to leave Kuwait about a decade ago over his extremist positions. Khabir is currently on ISIS's (also known as ISIL) payroll and operates a cell in an area of Mexico known as Anapra, according to the recently obtained information.

A year ago Judicial Watch reported on an ISIS camp in this exact area, just a few miles from El Paso. JW's April 14, 2015 report identified Anapra as the location of the ISIS base, details that were provided to JW by sources that include a Mexican Army field grade officer and a Mexican Federal Police Inspector. Anapra is situated just west of Ciudad Juárez in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. At the time JW reported that another ISIS cell was established to the west of Ciudad JuĂĄrez, in Puerto Palomas to target the New Mexico towns of Columbus and Deming. Sources told JW that, during the course of a joint operation, Mexican Army and federal law enforcement officials discovered documents in Arabic and Urdu, as well as "plans" of Fort Bliss ‐ the sprawling military installation that houses the US Army's 1st Armored Division. Muslim prayer rugs were recovered with the documents during the operation.

US military conducts cyber attacks on IS group

group, a general said Tuesday as the Pentagon looks for ways to accelerate the fight against the Islamist myrmidons.

A US-led coalition has been striking IS group fighters in Iraq and Syria since August 2014, and officials have long stated the importance of using cyber techniques such as overloading IS group networks to limit the group's communications and ability to reach potential new recruits.

"We have now begun to use our exquisite cyber capabilities in this fight against ISIS," Baghdad-based Major General Peter Gersten told Pentagon news hounds, using an acronym that comes from the group's name in Arabic.

He did not elaborate except to say the effort is "highly coordinated" and has been "very effective."

The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
published a story Sunday saying the US Cyber Command had placed "implants" in IS group networks that let experts monitor the group's behavior and ultimately imitate or alter commanders' messages so they unwittingly direct fighters to areas likely to be hit by drone or plane strikes.

The US Cyber Command is charged with protecting America's military and some civilian networks from attacks, as well as deploying its own offensive cyber strategies if needed.

By 2018, it will have more than 6,000 military and civilian technical experts working across 133 teams.

One such team, comprising about 65 people, today works in the Middle East and carries out cyber operations against IS group networks.

with 25 strikes on Monday in their latest assault against the bully boy group in Iraq and Syria, the coalition leading the operations said.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Combined Joint Task Force said 18 strikes coordinated with the Iraqi government hit near 10 cities, including Falluja, where they struck two Islamic State tactical units, two bridges and destroyed 11 fighting positions. Other strikes hit targets near djinn-infested Mosul

, Kirkuk and Hit, among other cities, the statement said.

In Syria, seven strikes hit near Manbij and Mar'a, striking five tactical united, destroying four fighting positions and three vehicles used by the bully boys, the task force said.

Bangladesh
These targeted killings are a crisis. Please treat them as such
[Dhaka Tribune] Will the government now start taking seriously its duty to protect citizens with the urgency it requires?

And will it forthrightly declare that there will be zero tolerance for hate crimes, and that those who are guilty of such wanton murder will be hunted down and brought to justice with the full force of the state?

Let us make no mistake: Monday’s brutal murders of Roopbaan editor Xulhaz Mannan and Tanay Mojumdar in Kalabagan were hate crimes, and they were targeted for their brave championing of LGBT rights.

Whether you support LGBT rights or you do not, the one thing that we must all agree on is that there can never be any justification for murder, and that those who are guilty of such savage slaughter are enemies of the state and of everything that is decent in humanity.

The government must understand that first and foremost this is a law and order issue, and that it cannot tolerate gangs of murderous fanatics killing with impunity.

The government’s first responsibility is to keep all of us safe and secure, and it is failing signally in this task.

This failure is only compounded by the government’s risible claims to have matters under control or that these kinds of assassination'>assassinations are isolated incidents.

Nor is it helpful to point the finger at its political enemies before any kind of investigation has taken place.

Worst of all, when the government feeds the mind-set that people need to watch what they say and write, by questioning what victims wrote or believed, it only emboldens and encourages the killers.

When the police refuse to take action on threats made against LGBT activists, and discriminate against, harass and threaten them themselves, and when they have been utterly unable to bring those who committed such crimes previously to justice, is it any wonder that killers feel safe to target the community with impunity?

The government must uphold the rule of law and safeguard the public.

These killings must stop, and the government cannot rest until they do. No effort can be spared to ensure that all of us are safe from slaughter in our own homes.

Venezuela paves way for petition to recall Maduro
[WASHINGTONPOST] Venezuela’s electoral council on Tuesday took steps to allow opponents of President Nicolas Maduro to try and initiate a recall referendum against the socialist leader.

The electoral authority delivered to opposition representatives the petition sheets needed to collect around 200,000 signatures to schedule a formal petition drive. The decision would normally draw scant attention except that the process had been mired by administrative hurdles that the opposition sees as an attempt by the government-stacked institution to protect Maduro.

Reflecting some of those tensions, a small group of government supporters hurled insults and threats against opposition leaders arriving to the downtown headquarters of the electoral council Tuesday, forcing them to briefly seek cover in the offices of the opposition-controlled congress across the street.

Although Maduro’s approval rating has plummeted amid spiraling triple-digit inflation, a deep recession and widespread shortages, booting him from office won’t be easy.

Just scheduling a referendum requires yet another petition drive, in which the opposition must gather signatures from 20 percent of the electorate, or around 4 million voters. And if the vote were ever held, the president would be removed only if the number of anti-Maduro votes exceeded the 7.6 million votes he received in the 2013 election.

Afghanistan
8 bombers killed as their suicide vests went off prematurely in Kunduz
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least 9 would-be jacket wallahs were killed after their boom jackets went off prematurely in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said all 8 would-be bombers were fully equipped with the boom jackets and were looking to carry out coordinated attack in Kunduz before their explosives went off.

A statement by MoI said the bombers were travelling in a group and were on their way from Dasht-e-Archi to Kunduz city when the incident took place earlier today.

MoI in its statement further added that the group belonged to Mullah Wali who is a commander of the Taliban group.

The Taliban group has not commented regarding the report so far.

This is not the first time the anti-government armed faceless myrmidons have became victims of their own bombing.

Earlier, a group of 10 faceless myrmidons were blown up by their own explosives as they were busy making an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in southeastern Ghazni province.

According to the security officials, the faceless myrmidons were busy making the IED inside a mosque in Andar district when their explosives went off prematurely, leaving all 10 faceless myrmidons dead.

The Taliban holy warriors and faceless myrmidons belonging to the other krazed killer groups are frequently using Improvised Explosive Device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces.

The IEDs are the main contributors to the casualties of the Afghan cops but are also considered as a key factor in growing civilian casualties.

25 die in Aleppo airstrikes
ALEPPO: A barrage of airstrikes and shelling on Syria’s second city Aleppo and a town to its west have killed 25 civilians, emergency workers and a monitoring group said Tuesday.

The attacks are the latest in a surge of violence in and around the city that has severely tested a February 27 cease-fire.

At least two male civilians died in rebel rocket fire on government-controlled areas in the west of the city on Tuesday afternoon, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

In the rebel-held eastern parts, the airstrikes and shelling came down “like rain,” one resident told AFP.

Fifteen civilians were killed in air strikes on several rebel-held eastern districts of Aleppo city, the civil defense, known as White Helmets, said.

Another three civilians — two women and a child — were killed in government artillery shelling on another eastern neighborhood, they said.

“The planes are bombing markets, residential areas... We’re exhausted, we can’t keep up,” a civil defense worker said.

Five of their own were killed when the White Helmets headquarters in the town of Al-Atarib, controlled by extremist rebels, was hit by an overnight air strike, the group said on Twitter.

It was not immediately clear whether the strike on Al-Atarib, 35 km from Aleppo, was carried out by the Syrian air force or its Russian ally.

An ambulance and a fire truck, both damaged, were parked in the bombed-out headquarters, surrounded by rubble and twisted metal frames.

A civil defense worker in Aleppo city said he and his colleagues were afraid their local headquarters would also be targeted.

Afghanistan
Afghanistan summons Pakistani Ambassador over heavy artillery shelling
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Pak Ambassador to Afghanistan Syed Abrar Hussain was summoned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan (MoFA) over heavy artillery shelling by Pakistain in eastern Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province.

According to a statement by MoFA, a formal protest was lodged regarding the shelling by handing over an official Memo of the Afghan government to the Pak Ambassador.

The statement further added that the deputy minister in administrative affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Nasir Ahmad Andisha said the shelling left one Afghan border police soldier martyred and two others maimed.

Strongly condemning the shelling by Pak military, Dr. Andisha said the shelling took place as Afghanistan was mourning the deadly Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
attack which left over 400 people maimed.

He urged the Pak Ambassador to take immediate actions to halt the shelling in a bid to prevent further deterioration of ties between the two countries.

The Pak Ambassador expressed grief regarding the casualties as a result of the shelling and promised to hand over the official Memo and complaint of the Afghan government to the relevant authorities, the statement added.

The incident in Goshta district took place earlier this week with the local officials saying the Pak forces started shelling the Afghan border posts.

This comes as a similar incident took place in Goshta district earlier last month following Pak militia forces attack in Anarki area of Goshta district.

33 militants killed in air and ground operations of Afghan forces: MoD
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least 33 Lions of Islam were killed in air and ground operations of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) in the past 24 hours.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said at least 29 Lions of Islam were also maimed during the operations which were conducted in Faryab, Herat

, and Maidan Wardak provinces.

A statement by MoD said at least 18 of the Lions of Islam were killed and 21 others were maimed in Garzewan district of Faryab, while 7 others were killed and 3 more were maimed in Shindand district of Herat.

The statement further added that 3 Lions of Islam were killed and 5 others were maimed during a separate operation in Dand-e-Shahabuddin district of Baghlan.

At least 4 Lions of Islam were killed during an operation in Greshk district of southern Helmand province, MoD said, adding that another bully boy was killed in Nerkh district of Maidan Wardak.

According to MoD, a soldier of the Afghan National Army (ANA) forces also lost his life during the operations.

The anti-government armed bully boy groups have not commented regarding the reports so far.

The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) have stepped up crackdown on anti-government armed bully boy groups to suppress their insurgency activities amid deteriorating security situation.

This comes as the Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the group announced their summer offensive earlier this month and vowed to carry out more attacks across the country.

Bangladesh
AQIS claims double murder
[Dhaka Tribune] Just hours after two LGBT activists were hacked to death in Dhaka’s Kalabagan, the Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) grabbed credit for the double murder.

Like they did after several similar killings in the past, the AQIS posted an image on its Twitter account to claim they were behind the recent murders.

"The mujahidin of Ansar al-Islam (AQIS, Bangladesh branch) were able to assassin [sic] Xulhaz Mannan and his associate Samir Mahbub Tonoy. They were the pioneers of practising and promoting homosexuality in Bangladesh," read the AQIS Twitter post.

"They were working day and night to promote homosexuality among the people of this land since 1998 with the help of their masters, the US crusaders and its Indian allies," read the post allegedly posted by AQIS Spokesperson Mufti Abdullah Ashraf.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
the claim of AQIS involvement in the murders was immediately snubbed by the police.

Maruf Hossain Sardar, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told the Dhaka Tribune: "We do not know anything about the AQIS claim. We are investigating the matter from our own view."

Thirty-five-year-old Xulhaz Mannan, editor of Bangladesh’s first LGBT magazine Roopbaan, and his 25-year-old friend Mahbub Tonoy, also an LGBT activist, were hacked to death in a flat at Dhaka’s Kalabagan on Monday evening.

Assailants identified themselves as courier service deliverymen to enter the flat before launching the attack with machetes. In a mode of operation that has become a hallmark for religious Death Eaters, the killers quickly hacked away at the victims before fleeing the scene within minutes.

"We have seen such kind of activities and attacking style among the members of Ansarullah Bangla Team and we are also suspecting that it is an act of that krazed killer outfit for the victims’ involvement in promoting LGBT activities," a senior Detective Branch official told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.

He also expressed hopes that a mobile phone found at the scene of the crime along with security footage from CCTV cameras would lead the police straight to the perpetrators.

So far, two cases have been filed with Kalabagan cop shoppe against person or persons unknown. Xulhaz’s brother Minhaz Mannan Emon and Sub-Inspector Shamim Ahmed have filed the cases, said Kalabagan police OC Mohammad Iqbal. However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
no arrest has been made yet.

According to the case statement, police recovered two pistols, one unused machete, some clothes and a bag dropped by one of the assailants when he was shooting at ASI Mamtaz.

In the wake of the killings, many of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) activists in Bangladesh said they were too shocked to react. Several of them told the Dhaka Tribune that they would soon go into hiding as they the feared that the same might happen to them as well.

Earlier this month, LGBT activists cancelled their scheduled rainbow rally ‐ an annual procession since 2014 that celebrate the country’s LGBT community ‐ on Pohela Boishakh.

After the rainbow rally programme was announced this year, different fundamentalist groups aggressively campaigned against it on Facebook and other social networking sites. They also issued threats against the organisers.

Europe
Swedish Greens jolted by claims of Islamist infiltration
[WASHINGTONPOST] One refused to shake hands with a female journalist. Another compared Israel to Nazi Germany. A third was seen doing hand signs associated with Egypt’s Moslem Brüderbund in the background of a live TV broadcast.

The behavior of some Muslim members of Sweden’s Green Party, which is part of a coalition government since 2014, has sparked concerns that the small environmentalist group may have been infiltrated by Islamists.

It also has triggered a wider discussion about whether Sweden has tried so hard to be inclusive and tolerant toward migrants colonists that it’s failed to stand up for its own feminist ideals.

"In our eagerness to embrace a diverse and multicultural society, we have turned a blind eye to undemocratic views," said Gulan Avci, a Stockholm city councilwoman for the Liberals, a center-right opposition party.

Green Party leaders said Monday there’s no evidence of Islamists influencing party policies, but admitted the party needs a "reset" with greater focus on environmental issues.

The party’s problems started when Housing Minister Mehmet Kaplan, a Green Party member and former leader of a Swedish Muslim youth group, resigned last week after media reports that he had contacts with ultra-nationalists and Islamists in his native The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
. Though he denied any wrongdoing and the party leadership defended him until the end, he stepped down when a video surfaced of Kaplan comparing Israel’s treatment of Paleostinians to how the Nazis persecuted Jews.

Trying to cool things down, Green Party co-leader Asa Romson only made them worse when she went off on a bizarre tangent in a TV interview, describing the Sept. 11 attacks as "accidents." She later clarified that she condemns the attacks.

But it didn’t end there. New images emerged where Kaplan and other Muslim members of the Green Party were seen holding up four fingers, a hand gesture used by the Moslem Brüderbund in Egypt. One of them, a Green Party youth leader, walked into the picture during a live broadcast on Swedish television and flashed the sign behind the presenter.

Afghanistan
Pakistan says not responsible alone to bring Taliban to peace talks table
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Pak government officials have said Islamabad is not responsible alone to bring the Afghan Taliban to peace talks table, a day after President Ghani said Afghanistan will no longer expect cooperation from the country in the Afghan grinding of the peace processor.

A front man for the Foreign office of Pakistain said Islamabad does not differentiate between the terror groups.

"Pakistain condemns all forms and manifestations of terrorism and it is committed in the fight against his menace," according to a statement quoting Nafees Zakaria, front man for the Foreign Office of Pakistain.

The statement further added "Pakistain itself is the biggest victim of terrorism in which thousands of our security personnel have sacrificed their lives."

"Pakistain hosted the first round of direct talks between Afghan government and Taliban but Pakistain alone is not responsible for bringing the Taliban back to the negotiating table," the statement added.

This comes as the Afghan officials have long been criticizing Pakistain for sheltering the anti-government armed holy warrior groups, including the notorious Haqqani terrorist network, blamed for major attacks in the country.

President Ghani participated in a gathering in Afghan parliament on Monday to announce the government’s stance on peace efforts and fight against terrorism.

The Target boycott is spiraling out of control
[BUSINESSINSIDER] Target has become the central battleground of a vitriolic national debate
... an expenditure of personal wind at the national level that leads to face-making and other histrionics but can't be shown to have ever solved an issue ...
over transgender rights in the US.

Nearly 700,000 people have signed a pledge to boycott the retailer after it announced last week that it would welcome transgender customers to use any bathroom or fitting room that matches their gender identity.
People sign a lot of pledges without changing their behaviour. Virtue signalling is very satisfying; actually inconveniencing oneself for a principle is so dreadfully inconvenient.
The backers of the pledge -- including Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick -- claim that the policy poses a "danger to wives and daughters" and is "exactly how sexual predators get access to their victims."

Some critics are visiting Target stores across the country and demanding access to bathrooms of the opposite sex to support claims that "perverts" can now gain access to children and women as a result of the policy.

Greg Locke, a pastor at Global Vision Bible Church in Tennessee, posted a video outside a Target store saying he got permission to use the women's restroom when he questioned store management.

Once a future wife and I were at a club, where she caught some jackhole who was pretending to drop something, then taking a quick up-the-dress photo while 'picking it up'.

And nor is a person so vulnerable as when sitting on the toilet. Usually, we are concentrating on the business at hand, and clothing has our legs bound.

ISIS beats woman trying to prevent ISIS nuptials
[ARA News] ERBIL – The extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS) flogged a woman in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo for refusing her daughter’s marriage to an ISIS Jihadi, local sources reported on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the group’s militants whipped the woman in the ISIS-held city of Manbij in Aleppo province.

Speaking to ARA News in Manbij, media activist Nasser Taljbini said that ISIS militants flogged Hiam Jassim al-Awwad, 42, in the Martyrs’ Square in central Manbij in front of dozens of people for refusing orders from the Sharia Court to marry her daughter to one of the group’s militants.

“The punishment came in the wake of refusing to marry off her daughter to one of the group’s militants,” the source added, pointing out that the victim is originally from the village of Qara in Manbij suburbs.

“A militant from the group’s Sharia Court threatened the people of Manbij to be severely punished in case of refusing orders from ISIS. People are forced to implement the Caliphate’s orders in all cases,” Taljbini reported.

The source confirmed that the woman was whipped in public without any intervention by locals.

ISIS had earlier flogged and even executed parents for refusing their daughters’ marriage to the group’s members.

Noteworthy, in the areas under ISIS control, every woman accused of violating the Islamic dress code imposed by the radical group is being flogged 50 times in public as a punishment, based on extremist regulations of the ISIS-led Sharia Court.

[Law Newz] A government watchdog group found that six members of the national service program, AmeriCorps, took pregnant women to abortion clinics in New York City, according to a report on TheHill.com. Helping to facilitate abortions is a direct violation of federal rules as they relate to grants used to fund the program which is overseen by The Corporation for National and Community Service.

The Hill reports that the volunteers served as "abortion doulas" and would provide help, transportation and emotional guidance to women seeking abortions. A full inspector general’s report is expected to be released later today. The small group who allegedly violated the rules was part of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). They are the ’largest health-focused national AmeriCorps program that promotes health care for America’s undeserved, while developing tomorrow’s health care workforce."

The Corporation for National and Community (CNCS) released this statement to The Hill: "Although the Office of the Inspector General’s (OIG) investigation concluded the misconduct occurred on an extremely limited scope, the grantee broke the law and violated the spirit of national service."

The association’s chief operating officer told The Hill that they they self-reported the issue to the appropriate authorities after learning about the potential violation. The program has been stopped, and NACHC have made their staff undergo training on "all relevant rules and regulations related to AmeriCorps prohibited activities."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
5 rescue workers die in overnight airstrikes
Two air strikes and at least one rocket attack staged overnight against an opposition-held area west of Aleppo killed five rescue workers, who appeared to have been knowingly targeted, a monitoring group and colleagues nearby reported.

The raids hit a center for the Syrian Civil Defence, known as the “White Helmets”, in the town of Atareb, some 25 km (15 miles) west of Aleppo.

The recent weeks have witnessed grave escalation in fighting in Aleppo province, as a partial truce brokered the United States and Russia in February has all but collapsed.

The Civil Defence corps work as first responders in opposition-held territory where medical infrastructure has broken down.

“The targeting was very precise,” Radi Saad, a Civil Defence worker based in northwestern Syria, told Reuters via internet.

“They were in the center and ready to respond. When they heard warplanes in the area they did not think they would be the target.”

It was unclear whether Syrian or Russian warplanes had launched the raids, he said. There was no immediate comment from the Syrian government.

Another Civil Defence member, Ahmad Sheikho, said five rescue workers had died and two were seriously wounded. Ambulances and cars belonging to doctors were also damaged.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based monitoring group, said at least five had been killed, confirming that the center appeared to have been deliberately targeted.

The observatory also reported government air strikes and rebel bombardments in Aleppo city killing dozens of people in the last few days.

In the past 24 hours, fighting in Aleppo has killed at least 30 people including at least eight children, the Observatory added.

Iraq
Mosul locals lynch ISIS trooper for zipper failure
[ARA News] ERBIL – A security member from the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) was killed by locals in Iraq’s northern city of Mosul after sexually harassing a women in the city, local sources reported on Tuesday.

Local activists confirmed that the jihadi militant was stabbed to death in the district of Aden eastern Mosul.

Speaking to ARA News in Mosul, head of the Nineveh media center Raafat al-Zarari said that a member of the ISIS security forces [also known as al-Hisba Police] who was responsible for enforcing ISIS’s regulations in the city, was killed by a group of civilian people in the district of Aden in Mosul after he tried to harass a woman in the area.

“The jihadi was captured by a group of civilians and slaughtered on charges of sexual harassment,” the source reported.

“Many people [who were seen carrying knives] attacked the official and stabbed him several times all over his body,” an eyewitness told ARA News. “The perpetrators disappeared before the ISIS-linked police patrols arrive in the area.”

“Al-Hisba police members have taken his corps to the hospital, but he died several hours later,” the source added, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The jihadi official, before his death, used to monitor the women and men who violate the group’s regulation in the district, according to local sources.

Speaking to ARA News in Erbil, Kurdish journalist Idris Badini said: “No one denies that these barbaric insurgents [ISIS] capture women and used them as sex slaves in their areas of control in Syria and Iraq. This is a main motivation for the group’s members to even turn into suicide bombers; they are dying for reaching the eternal and unlimited sex,” he argued.

“If we did not understand their real motivation for killing themselves and innocent people, we will never be able to defeat them,” Badini said.

The radical group in the district of Aden of Mosul did not take any procedures against the people of the district for fear of a possible uprising against ISIS in the region, especially the group currently faces challenges amid intenisified US-led coalition’s airstrikes on its command centers and vital locations in both Syria and Iraq for months, which have caused an apparent shortage in the group’s manpower.

IS Sirte heartland facing three-pronged LNA and Misratan attack
Tripoli and Khartoum, 26 April 2016.

There are reports of the movement of two groups of Libyan National Army troops towards Sirte from the south-west and east. Meanwhile at least one Misratan brigade has announced it is moving eastwards toward the 200 kilometre-long coastal strip controlled by IS terrorists.

An army source told this newspaper that a force of more than a thousand men had left Ghabghab, the main army base at Marj and was heading for Sirte. It seems likely that the convoy will include some of the armoured personnel carriers and pickups delivered to Tobruk from the UAE on Saturday.

It is also being reported that the LNA commander in the west, Colonel Idris Madi, is pushing towards IS territory from the south-west. He is said to be accompanied by Colonel Mohamed Ben Nail, the commander of 241 Brigade and Colonel Ali Seedi Al-Tabawey, commander of the Tebu 25 Brigade. This unit, which fought against IS and Ansar Al-Sharia forces in Benina in Benghazilast year is based around the Sarir/Messla oil fields, the Sarir power station and the Shula oil compound.

On its social media site today Misrata’s Marsa Brigade has said that forces belonging to the city’s Military Council were concentrating before advance eastwards toward Sirte.

It is unclear if the Misratan move is being made in coordination with the Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Khalifa Hafter.

It is significant that the army has named its part of the move against Sirte “Qurdabiya 2” after a battle near Sirte at Wadi Al-Hamar (The Red Valley) fought against the Italians in 1915. This was notable for the fact that it was the only major occasion on which Libyans from Tripolitania, Cyrenaica and Fezzan fought side by side against the Italians,

An elder of the Magharba tribe said today on 218 TV that his people will do whatever they can to help the movement of army units from the east. Meanwhile, Petroleum Facilities Guard commander Ibrahim Jadhran, a long-standing Hafter opponent, is understood to have agreed not to interfere with the army advance. Jadhran, who is himself from the Magharba, is believed to have sought to extend the PFG’s control over more oil fields to the south.

There has been considerable social media chatter in recent days about an impending operation against IS. A series of pictures has been posted claiming to show various units advancing.

Reports from inside Sirte this evening indicated that the town in unusually quiet and that the local radio station is broadcasting an almost constant diet of IS songs.

Iraq
UN official wags finger at Kurds, Iraqi militia for fighting
[ARA News] ERBIL – The United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Ján Kubiš, urged an immediate end to the fighting taking place between the Kurdish Peshmerga and Shia militia in Tuz Khurmato. However, clashes have continued on Tuesday.

Western diplomats are worried the tensions between the Shia Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces could hurt the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS), also known as IS, ISIL or Daesh.

“The SRSG [Ján Kubiš] expresses his utmost concern that the fighting is endangering the lives of the civilian population and could hinder the fight against Daesh, and his disappointment that a truce was violated soon after it was reached,” the UN said in a public statement.

“This is not the time for such futile fighting. Nothing can justify this violence”, Mr. Kubiš said. “We urge the parties to stop the fighting and to focus their efforts on the battle against the common enemy, Daesh [Islamic State],” he said.

“The SRSG expresses strong support for ongoing efforts to bring an end to the fighting. The parties should work on restoring stability to the area and focus on how to defeat the terrorists.”

In the meantime, the British Ambassador to Iraq, Frank Baker, said on Twitter: “I support UN Iraq Kubis’ call for an end to the fighting in Tuz [Khurmato]. Civilians and the fight against Daesh are endangered.”

Fighting broke out between the Kurdish Peshmerga and Shia paramilitary groups in Tuz Khurmato on Saturday night after Shia militiamen threw a grenade into the house of Brigade General Sirwan Shaqlawayi, killing him instantly.

A truce was brokered on Sunday to end the fighting that killed dozens of people on both sides, but it broke out again on Monday, and attempts to reach a new ceasefire deal failed.

“We are calling on our al-Hashed al-Shaabi [PMU] commander brothers in Tuz Khurmato and the area to rein those outlawed and disobedient militants, arrest the criminals, hand them over to court, and give orders to all of our brothers of Popular Mobilization Units to get out of the center of Tuz Khurmato,” Peshmerga Spokesman Lieutenant General Jabar Yawar said in a statement on Sunday.

“Those clashes should end in order to implement our duties and tasks together, including the protection of the defense line and the battle of flushing out the ISIS terrorists in the area,” he added.

Speaking to ARA News, Nicholas Heras, a Washington-based Middle East researcher at the Centre for a New American Security, said that the conflict could threaten the fight against ISIS.

“The fighting at Tuz Khurmato is foreshadowing of the ethnic and sectarian politicking and conflict that will occur as Iraq’s two major identity groups, Kurds and Shia Arabs, jostle for position inside the crumbling Iraqi state,” he said.

“Neither the KRG nor the Hashd Sha’abi [PMU] militias view ISIS or the Sunni community as the strategic threat. The Hashd Sha’abi, which has become a vehicle for the IRGC to build a Basij structure in Iraq that is parallel to and potentially more powerful than the Iraqi Security Forces, views the Kurds as a threat. For the Kurds, the Hashd Sha’abi is a strategic threat to their control over border areas of their autonomous or potentially independent region, as well as to Kurdish control over Kirkuk,” Heras added.

“Regardless of the U.S. focus on the anti-ISIS campaign, the Kurdish-Hashd Sha’abi conflict looms as another destabilizing force that threatens the internal territorial integrity of Iraq. It also threatens to distract two major anti-ISIS actors, Kurds and Shia, from the fight against ISIS,” he concluded.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Book Review: To sabotage the future, lie about the past
[FrontPageMagazine] I am in awe of The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise: Muslims, Christians, and Jews under Islamic Rule in Medieval Spain. Author Dario Fernandez-Morera, a Northwestern University Professor and Harvard PhD, argues that elite scholars are peddling a myth – that Islamic Spain, c. 711 AD -1492 AD, was a paradise. Fernandez-Morera's job is to expose historical realities. The main text is 240 pages. There are 95 pages of notes, a bibliography and an index. It was published in February, 2016 by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.

This book is an intellectual boxing match. The author shreds not just one opponent, but a series of intellectual bigots, prostitutes and manipulators of the common man. Fernandez-Morera's biceps gleam as his lightning footwork and peerless preparedness dazzle. Our hero risks much, from hate mail to non-person status.

The reader is plunged into vast landscapes, international intrigue, arcane customs, and timeless heroism. One envisions veiled women and bejeweled slave girls, the smoking ruins of churches, enslaved, whipped Christians forced to carry their cathedral bells to be melted down to embellish mosques, heartbreaking suffering and eventual victory.

Fernandez-Morera allows the propagandists enough rope to hang themselves. All he has to do is quote them. Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, The University of Chicago, Boston University, Sarah Lawrence, Rutgers, Indiana University, Cambridge, Oxford, The University of London, NYU, Norton, Penguin, Routledge, Houghton Mifflin, the Pulitzer Committee, Tony Blair, Barack Obama, Carly Fiorina, children's textbooks, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, PBS, The New York Review of Books, First Things all are in the dock, tripped up in their own false testimony. The inclusion of First Things might surprise; it is a Catholic publication. In it Christian C. Sahner praises Muslims who "exhibited a surprising degree of religious flexibility" because they waited a few decades before razing the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Damascus, rather than destroying it immediately upon arrival. Really.

Iraq
US sends warning shot in Iraq via Hellfire missile
[FRANCE24] Before blowing up a jihadist cash hoard in Iraq, the US military warned bystanders of an impending strike by using a Hellfire missile to deliver the wartime equivalent of a doorknock, an official said Tuesday.

It was the first time the Pentagon has conducted a "knock operation" in Iraq and Syria, and the inspiration came from watching the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) pioneer the controversial tactic in Gazoo, Major General Peter Gersten said.

The Baghdad-based commander told Pentagon news hounds that ahead of the strike on a cash-storage facility on April 5 in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, the military learned that a woman, children and other "non-combatants" also were using the building.

He said the United States aims to avoid civilian casualties, and in this instance decided to warn occupants by exploding a missile just above the roof.

"We went as far as actually to put a Hellfire on top of the building and air burst it so it wouldn't destroy the building, simply knock on the roof to ensure that she and the children were out of the building," he said.

"Then we proceeded with our operations."

Ultimately, the woman died anyway because she ran back just after US forces launched bombs to blow it up.

"Much as we tried to do exactly what we wanted to do and minimize civilian casualties, post-weapons release, she actually ran back into the building," Gersten said. "That's ... very difficult for us to watch."

Gersten said several men had also fled the building. He did not say if they were IS jihadists.

"The men that were in that building, multiple men, literally trampled over her to get out," he said.

The coalition has carried out about 20 strikes on IS cash, blowing up as much as $800 million worth of cash in the process, Gersten said.

Critics of the 20-month-old US-led coalition attacking the IS group in Iraq and Syria say the military is overly cautious in avoiding civilian casualties.

In a move ridiculed by hawkish opponents in the US Congress and privately by some coalition partners, pilots dropped pamphlets before bombing trucks ferrying illicit oil around Syria for the IS group.

The IDF has for years warned occupants of buildings suspected of housing Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, weapons to get out by "roof knocking."

The technique has drawn sharp criticism. Observers say occupants are sometimes killed in the warning strike, or even run up to their rooftops to see what happened -- only to be killed in the follow-up strike.

Given that women in that part of the world would not be allowed to be in the company of other men without a relative present, she may well have been the wife of one of the men who trampled her. After which, he probably ordered her back in the building to fetch his AK-47.

Islamophobia must first be criminalized
[AA.TR] Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
or anti-Muslim racism is still not even acknowledged as a crime or a motivation for hate-crime in most European countries. In fact we still face a continuing absence of reliable and nation- as well as European-wide data on Islamophobic incidents.
It's only fair -- so often Islam is not acknowledged as a motivation for crime and hate crimes. And so in both cases the actions themselves are judged on their innate criminality.
In 2014, only five states of the 57 Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) member states officially reported on hate crimes against Muslims, whereas civil society reported in 21 countries.

ISIS internal docs show struggle to retain fighters, cut costs
[CNN] ISIS is facing cash and manpower shortages, the deputy commander of the counter-ISIS coalition said Tuesday.

His statement was reinforced by newly obtained internal ISIS documents. The cache shows the group struggling for funds -- some of which are used to pay for sex slaves -- and calling on fighters to use less electricity and stop driving official cars for personal use. The fighters, meanwhile, seem to be suffering low morale, in some case seeking doctors' notes to avoid serving on the frontlines.
"Who wants to be the last man to die for a jihad Allah rejects?"
Maj. Gen. Peter E. Gersten told news hounds that attacks on ISIS finances and personnel had reduced the number of imported muscle joining ISIS from 1,500-2,000 per month a year ago to 200 per month today.

"We're actually seeing an increase in now the desertion rates in these fighters. We're seeing a fracture in their morale. We're seeing their inability to pay. We're watching them try to leave ISIS," Gersten said, using another name for ISIS.
Where are they going, and what will they do when they get there?

Baidoa Bodies Bundled
A military officer says at least five soldiers were killed, 13 wounded in heavy fighting in southern Somalia on Tuesday, in the latest confrontation between Al shabaab and Govt troops backed by AU peacekeepers.

The fighting broke out when heavily armed gun-toting Al shabaab fighters raided SNA base in Deynunay village, approximately 35Km north of Baidoa, the interim capital of South West state of Somalia.

Confirming the inciden, Col Ahmed Mohamed, a military commander in the area, told Radio Shabelle by phone that five SNA soldiers lost their lives in the daring attack.

“The armed militants marched to SNA base in Deynunay village, prompting fierce gun battles and exchanges of heavy and small weapons,” said Col Ahmed.

He did not disclose casualties of the AMISOM side, but residents said they saw armored vehicles evacuating wounded AU soldiers from the battle zone.

The Grand Turk
Turkish artillery shells missile launchers, kills 11 ISIL militants
Two missile launchers belonging to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) jihadist group were destroyed in an artillery strike on April 26 that reportedly killed 11 ISIL militants, marking the second such initiative by the Turkish Army in the past two days.

Reconnaissance vehicles spotted two missile launchers ready for attack in Duwaibik, 12 kilometers from the border and 26 kilometers from the center of the southeastern province of Kilis. Turkish artillery units in the border destroyed the launchers while 11 ISIL militants were also killed in the shelling.

Meanwhile, a three-story building next to the launchers was also destroyed. The whereabouts of the ISIL militants inside the building was unclear.
"Unclear to me where they went, Ayip. Nothing here but dust."
"You sure Omar? That little piece there looks like a partial lip to me."
Katyusha rockets fired from ISIL region in northern Syria into Kilis have claimed 17 lives since January with a fresh attack on April 24 killing two people.

Afghanistan
Dostum is barred from entering US, reportedly for alleged mass killing of Taliban
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The United States has reportedly denied to issue a visa to the First Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
to visit New York and Washington to discuss the situation of the country with the American officials, it has been reported.
I appreciate all the good work Dostum has done in the WoT. I'd also never want him mad at me...
The step was reportedly taken for Gen. Dostum’s alleged involvement in the mass killing of the Taliban turbans in late 2001 as he was fighting alongside Central Intelligence Agency operatives and Special Operations forces to oust the Taliban.

The message to deny entry to Gen. Dostum to United States was passed to the Afghan government days before his departure, the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
quoting multiple Afghan and American officials reported. The report further added that the Afghan government quickly and quietly canceled Gen. Dostum’s visit in a bid to avoid a humiliating public spectacle.

However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
Gen. Dostum has said that the trip was cancelled due to tenuous security situation in the country.

"I personally intend to visit as soon as the situation here allows," Gen. Dostum said in the interview with the Voice of America radio.

He assured listeners that he had many friends in Washington -- "I am well acquainted with our Pentagon friends and congressmen," he said -- and that he would tell them how things were in Afghanistan.

"I want to discuss the situation with them," he said. "They have to take this issue seriously. Otherwise, it might get out of control."

According to the Times, that discussion seems unlikely to happen anytime soon. Gen. Dostum’s inability to secure entry to the United States is in fact a longstanding issue.

In 2013, Representative Dana Rohrabacher
...Representative for Caliphornia's 48th congressional district, and previously the 46th, 45th and 42nd, serving since 1989. He is a member of the Republican Party and a former speech writer for President Reagan...
, a Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Republican who has known Mr. Dostum for decades, personally asked Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
to grant him a visa. At the time, Mr. Rohrabacher said he was seeking to bring Mr. Dostum to Washington to discuss the war and the future of the Afghan government.

No visa was issued then, and Gen. Dostum’s election as vice president the following year has not changed the B.O. regime’s view of him or its willingness to let him visit the United States, said two senior American officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid antagonizing the Afghan government. American officials do not want to be seen with him, one said.

Terror Networks
US: Number of Daesh fighters lowest since 2014
[AA.TR] ISIS has 19,000 to 25,000 fighters in Iraq and Syria, the Pentagon said Tuesday, updating its estimate of 20,000 to 30,000 snuffies for the group.

"This is the lowest the number range has been since 2014," front man Peter Cook said in a statement.

The Pentagon updated its estimate a few months after President Barack Obama
That’s just how white folks will do you....
ordered an acceleration of the campaign against the terrorist group.

The Pentagon ties the decrease in numbers to the overall effect of the recently accelerated campaign against ISIS’s financial and military assets as well as the success of local forces to close certain key routes in Iraq and Syria, blocking fighters from moving across borders.

According to Air Force Gen. Peter Gersten, the number of imported muscle entering Iraq and Syria has significantly decreased in the past year.

Gersten said he believes that about a year ago, up to 1,500 to 2,000 imported muscle were joining ISIS each month.

"Now we have been fighting this enemy for a year, our estimates are down to 200 [per month] and we are actually seeing now an increase in desertion rates of these fighters," he said.

The 1,000 to 5,000 decrease in fighters is a relatively small yield for the U.S. when considering the resources poured into the war against ISIS.

In last 18 months, the U.S.-led coalition has conducted more than 11,000 air strikes and aircraft have flown nearly 89,000 sorties in support of operations in Iraq and Syria.

#1  If we are to believe the government numbers, we are probably killing 20-30 each day, and more are probably wounded and permanently taken out of action. Which suggests over 1000 are taken out of action each month. This war should be over in two years if they fight to the last man.

Soddy force continue joint operations
Soddys realize the value of operations when you conduct them during a truce.
It's the Muslim way. They can do none else.
Hudna - it's not just for infidels!
The command of the coalition forces to support the legitimacy in Yemen has announced the launching of a joint military operation against Al Qaeda in Yemen. The operation's participants include the Yemeni army and elements of Saudi and UAE special forces.

Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the coalition command as saying, in a statement on Sunday, that in its first hours, the operation resulted in the killing of more than 800 elements of Al Qaeda and a number of their leaders, and that the rest of them fled.

The statement added that the operation comes as part of the joint international efforts to defeat terrorist groups in Yemen and support the legitimate Yemeni government, and to extend its influence and control over Yemeni cities that fell under the control of Al Qaeda, the most important of which is the city of Al Mukalla, considered the stronghold of the organisation. The operation aims at clearing it and helping the legitimacy to extend its control over it and the rest of Yemen's cities.

The statement added that the process will allow for the intensifying of humanitarian relief efforts in those cities, and alleviate the suffering of the brotherly people of Yemen.

The countries participating in the operation emphasised their continuing policy of chasing terrorist organisations out of all Yemeni cities, defeating them, and depriving them of a safe haven until the return of security and stability in the region.

Africa Subsaharan
World’s longest-serving president just won a sixth term with 99% of the vote
[WASHINGTONPOST] Teodoro Obiang Nguema has never received less than 97 percent of the vote in an election. On Monday, with partial results indicating that 99.2 percent of the vote has gone in his favor, Equatorial Guinea's leader was surely all set for another seven years in a seat that has no doubt molded to his figure.

One-sixth of African countries have an executive who has been in power for more than 20 years — that's nine out of 54. Obiang, who took power nearly 37 years ago in a bloody coup, is in the company of Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe (who turned 92 in February), Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea and King Mswati III of Swaziland. But Obiang is most similar to — and most closely followed in terms of the number of years in office by — José Eduardo dos Santos of Angola.

Dos Santos and Obiang preside over Africa's No. 2 and 3 crude-oil producers, respectively, and are accused of embezzling much of the resulting wealth, while not distributing it fairly, if at all, to their citizens. Equatorial Guinea, once a Spanish colony, has the biggest gap of any country worldwide between its per-capita wealth and its human development index — a sure sign that there are a few outliers skewing the per-capita figure way upward.

Obiang triumphed over six other candidates, winning all but 326 of the 40,926 votes counted, according to a government-run website.

An excerpt:
That’s not a knock against Rensin but an observation that it’s remarkable Vox would publish what Smith calls “a precision-guided missile of perspicacity that rose high into the air and scored a direct hit on its own deck.”

Rensin observes that “the smug style has always existed in American liberalism, but it wasn’t always so totalizing.” That’s because liberalism’s appeal has become more selective in recent decades. Sixty years ago, “the smug style belonged to real elites, knowing in their cocktail parties, far from the ears of rubes.” In the ensuing decades, the “rubes” have increasingly voted Republican:

Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
attack last week.

Ghani ordered the NDS directors to take all steps necessary to narrow the field of activities of the terrorists, create fear in their hearts, close their movement routes, halt their finance sources and suppress their activities through air and ground raids.

He said the activities and efforts of the NDS operatives are vital as they are operating among the people and are well aware of the regions and have sufficient experience.

President Ghani reiterated that those who have murdered the civilians and members of the security forces will be executed in accordance with the verdict of the judiciary institutions.

He said the distinction between friends and enemies of Afghanistan has been ascertained, noting his speech to the Afghan parliament yesterday, insisting all those fighting the system of the country are enemies of Afghanistan.

President Ghani also added that the world stands with the Afghanistan today and respects its stance and are committed to long term economic and military support.

He hailed the Afghan National Security Forces, specifically the Special Operations Forces, emphasizing that they are capable to successfully carry out any type of operation in any corner of the country, calling them as a unique force in the region.

Germany: 9 Islamic extremists investigated over plan to kill

[AlAhram] German authorities are investigating nine Muslim extremists on suspicion they planned to kill two people over disagreements in their interpretation of Islam.

Prosecutors in Bremen say 10 premises in the northern German city were searched early Tuesday following tips about the planned crimes.

Some 200 police officers were involved in the morning raids.

Prosecutors say the unnamed suspects are adherents of Salafism, an Islamic movement based on a literal reading of the Quran. In a statement, prosecutors said the Salafis are suspected of committing two cases of serious bodily harm and of planning to kill two people "who interpreted both the Quran and life under Islam differently."

Authorities estimate there are about 8,000 Salafis in Germany.

Sweden on alert for possible ISIS attack in capital

[Ynet] Sweden has received intelligence about a possible attack on the capital by Islamic State militants, local media reported on Tuesday, and security services said they were investigating undisclosed "information".

Newspapers Aftonbladet and Expressen as well as public broadcaster Swedish Radio, citing unnamed sources, reported the information was related to the threat of an attack, possibly in the capital Stockholm.

Expressen reported Swedish security police (SAPO) had received intelligence from Iraq that seven or eight Islamic State fighters had entered Sweden with the intention of attacking civilian targets.

A security police spokeswoman said she would not comment on any specific details of a threat, but said it was working with regular police as well as national and international partners.

The Sicilian mafia has declared ‘war on migrants’ after levels of immigration increased by 90 per cent in the first three months of the year. Two weeks ago a Gambian man was shot in the head in Palermo.
Muslims started raiding Sicily in the mid-7th century, conquered it in the 9th, and were only driven out by the Normans in the 11th. Lots of massacres, enslaving and jizya during that period; Sicilian memories are long, even without the many Arab placenames to remind them.

Why Are They Hiding The Good News About Fracking?
Geologists at the University of Cincinnati just wrapped up a three-year investigation of hydraulic fracturing and its impact on local water supplies.

The result? There's no evidence—zero, zilch, nada—that fracking contaminates drinking water. Researchers hoped to keep these findings secret.

Why would a public research university boasting a top-100 geology program
"So, how many geology programs are there in the U.S.?"
"Um, about 102. I think."
"Does that include junior colleges?"
"Maybe. They got any rocks?"
deliberately hide its work? Because, as lead researcher Amy Townsend-Small explained, "our funders, the groups that had given us funding in the past, were a little disappointed in our results. They feel that fracking is scary and so they were hoping our data could point to a reason to ban it."

That an environmentalist ideologue would see evidence of fracking's safety as "disappointing" is to be expected. But that a university would so flagrantly put politics before science is deeply troubling.

Hydraulic fracturing has significantly bolstered America's energy independence by unlocking an abundance of domestic oil and gas. In fact, our country has officially surpassed Russia and Saudi Arabia as the global leader in natural gas and oil production, respectively. Just as important, these newfound energy resources have delivered economic benefits to Americans. In 2012, the average U.S. household had an extra $1,200 thanks to the energy boom. The oil and gas industry, meanwhile, supports more than 2 million jobs—a number that is expected to grow to nearly 5 million by 2025.

This energy renaissance has also helped the environment since fracking provides a cheaper, cleaner alternative to coal. Last April, energy-related carbon dioxide emissions hit a 27-year low, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, thanks largely to a widespread transition from coal to natural gas.

None of these benefits would matter if fracking endangered drinking water. So the University of Cincinnati's report comes as good news. Of course, the findings only confirm what experts and policymakers have been saying for years.

Back in 2011, for instance, former EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson admitted that there hasn't been a "proven case where the fracking process itself has affected water." Two years later, current EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy affirmed Jackson's remark, stating, "I am not aware of any definitive determinations that would contradict those statements."

A review of the available research bears out both claims. Consider the Ground Water Protection Council's recent study on gas exploration in Ohio, from 1983 until 2007, and in Texas, from 1993 until 2008. According to that report, neither officials in Texas nor those in Ohio "identified a single groundwater contamination incident…at any of these horizontal shale gas wells" during those periods.

Similarly, a 2013 U.S. Geological Survey study on the Fayetteville Shale in north-central Arkansas found "that shale gas development, at least in this area, has been done without negatively impacting drinking water resources." A 2015 EPA draft report confirmed these findings.

Fracking's impressive safety record is partly due to the energy industry's own vigilance; it has worked aggressively to improve the safety of oil and gas production.

The University of Cincinnati's fracking research further establishes what myriad studies have already shown: Concerns about groundwater contamination are baseless. As Townsend-Small stated, "We haven't seen anything to show that wells have been contaminated by fracking."

This might be "disappointing" to certain environmentalists, as Townsend-Small suggests. And it may interfere with the university's fundraising efforts. But for the rest of us, the study demonstrates that fracking is a safe source of jobs, prosperity and low-cost energy.

Do you have a basis for that statement? The trailing daughters chose to do their undergraduate work there, though as National Merit Scholars they had many other opportunities.

Separately, I consulted with Mr. Wife on this one, because he negotiates university research contracts as part of his responsibilities, and he pointed out several things:

First of all, a research contract might forbid publication of the results, if the sponsor wants exclusivity. If that is the case, the scientists cannot discuss the results in a public forum or publish the results, because the data belongs to the sponsor, not the university, the researcher, or the public. The sponsor bought it, just like we might buy a book or gasoline for the car.

But Professor Townsend-Small has in fact been talking about this study (I googled it). Among others, in February she made a presentation summarizing the research and their findings to a Carroll [County] Concerned Citizens meeting, which subsequently posted PDFs of the presentation and a master's thesis written about the study. (See here for links to both in the right-hand column). There is also apparently a video of the presentation, as mentioned in an article about it all here.

Still, there's been no announcement of formal publication of the results. It could be, according to Mr. Wife, that the publication is in process, either being written up or undergoing the usual back and forth with the journal editors in response to peer review, which often takes months, and then the wait to actually get a place on the journal's pages. Or it could be that no journals were interested in publishing the study. Or, though useful as a teaching tool on how to conduct geologic research, the study results are not strong enough or important enough to be worth writing up. The EPA concluded from their own studies that fracking does not impact groundwater according to a draft circulated almost a year ago, so the UC results are not exactly groundbreaking.

Afghanistan
Taliban delegation in Karachi city of Pakistan for talks with Afghan govt
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A delegation of the Afghan Taliban group has arrived in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
city of Pakistain, reportedly for peace talks with the Afghan government, a day after President Ghani ordered military actions against the hard boyz pursuing violence and warned Pakistain to take actions against the group’s leadership based in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
and Quetta.

According to diplomatic sources quoted in a report by BBC Urdu, the delegation has arrived to Karachi city from Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
where the Taliban has a liaison office.

The sources have further added that the representatives of the Taliban group will join the Afghan government at the table during the negotiating process.

President Ghani participated in a gathering in Afghan parliament on Monday to announce the government’s stance on peace efforts following a deadly attack in capital Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
last week, which left at least 64 dead and 347 maimed.

He said the Pak government should act responsibly in fight against terrorist groups, insisting that there should not be distinction between good and bad terrorists.

President Ghani warned that Afghanistan will approach the UN Security Council and other international organizations to lodge complaint if necessary actions are not taken.

He also added that the Taliban group will suffer and will be defeated in the battlefield which will eventually force them to participate in peace talks with the Afghan government.

This comes as the Taliban group rejected to participate in peace talks with the Afghan government following the conclusion of the 4th round of Quadrilateral Coordination Group meeting involving Afghanistan, Pakistain, China and United States.

The Afghan government was expecting to hold first direct talks with the group earlier last month but Taliban rejected the talks and announced their spring offensive earlier this month.

The Grand Turk
Turkey demands more effective use of Hellfire missiles in ISIL fight
Turkish government has demanded the U.S. Army use its unmanned aerial vehicles loaded with Hellfire missiles more effectively against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) as a part of a new strategy to end deadly rocket hits in the border province of Kilis.
I wouldn't mind more effective drone-zaps either...
Ankara has demanded U.S. predators with two Hellfire missiles at the İncirlik Air Base in the southern province of Adana be used more effectively as well as the deployment of High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) rocket launchers in the Syria borderline, according to the strategy.
Rather demanding for an unreliable ally, aren't they...
According to Turkish sources, such moves would push ISIL militants southwards, leaving the border province out of battery ranges.

Currently Turkish fighter jets are inactive over Syrian skies following the downing of Russian jet on Nov. 24, 2015 for violating Turkish airspace.
Cold feet?
The Foreign Ministry has also demanded raising awareness on the Kilis issue by increasing dialogue with the Department of State, as predator hits have missed ISIL targets.

There are currently four Predators and 12 A-10 bomber aircrafts at the İncirlik Air Base.

Meanwhile, Kilis was also one of the agenda topics of a security meeting chaired by Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, one that demanded new strategies in the fight against ISIL on the border. Accordingly, communications with the U.S. will be increased regarding the effective use of U.S. air forces to hit ISIL missile and rocket launchers. In addition, Turkish artillery units will also be supported by HIMARS.

NATO member countries’ early warning and monitoring systems in the region will also be used more frequently, according to the new initiatives.

However, a ground operation to sweep ISIL militants from the south of Kilis is not on the government’s agenda.
The Turkish government would rather use drone-zaps than put their own boys on the front line...
Meanwhile, trained militants from Syrian opposition groups are readying for an offensive which will see missile launchers completely destroyed or driven away from firing range.

Katyusha rockets fired from ISIL region in northern Syria into Kilis have claimed 17 lives since January with a fresh attack on April 24 killing two people.

Kilis residents beat feet to avoid rocket firings
Around 30 percent of the population in the southeastern province of Kilis migrated to neighboring provinces as the latest rocket firings from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) bases in northern Syria have left 17 people dead since January.

Hit by up to 45 Katyusha projectiles in several firings from Syria, classes in Kilis were closed while around 90 percent of students have stopped going to school. Locals have also emptied from the usually lively streets and markets because the rockets, which began on January 18.

Around 130,000 Syrians have flocked to the border province since the conflict flared up in their country, joining the 93,000 people already living in the province. Locals have also begun leaving as a result of their new neighbors. Shops have been mostly closed as people prefer to stay at their houses.

In addition, the real estate market also saw a significant drop as prices fell by 35 percent, according to the head of Kilis real estate association.
"Kilis: 4 bdr, 2 bath, 1700 sq ft, partly-remodeled with spaces for new walls, windows, priced to move. Call Fatima at ReMax today."
A regional chief of the education union Eğitim-Sen has also said parents are scared after rocket projectiles hit schools.

Around 600 teachers have been asked to be reassigned from the province, Eğitim-Sen Kilis chief Osman Boybeyi said, calling on officials to declare recess until the end of the academic term and to “look after” Kilis by reviewing security measures.

Liberal Fascism: Twitter "shadow bans" Trump
Since the implementation of Twitter's new algorithmic timeline back in February of this year, conservatives, libertarians and anti-establishment dissidents alike have been waiting for the social media platform to interfere in the current U.S. election cycle. Now it seems that there is clear evidence of Twitter censoring the current Republican front-runner, Donald Trump.

A tweet sent from Trump's account at 3:04 PM EDT yesterday is not visible from his timeline, even when showing "Tweets and replies." That message included a video wherein Trump declared that "the establishment and special interests are absolutely killing our country." At the time of this writing, the tweet is still publicly accessible via a direct link and thus has not been deleted either by Twitter or by someone operating on the Trump account.
Today its Trump - tomorrow you? Whether you support him or oppose him (as I do), preemptively silencing him is simply evil.

A Father of the Church,
Censorious and solemn,
Was bothered on his perch
Atop a lofty column.

The tawdry tone of prayer
From his beloved pupils
Provoked an icy stare
To reinforce their scruples,

And when that didn't mend
The manner of their ranting,
He threatened to descend
To rectify their chanting;

Which warning always worked
On all the monks convening
Unless one brother smirked
And dropped a double meaning.

Then sudden silence fell
As still as desert midnight:
"Withdraw within thy cell,"
Intoned the stolid stylite,

And slunk away the monk
On whom his ire was focused,
To hunger in his bunk
Without one roasted locust.

UN urges flexibility in Yemen peace talks
Come on, UN guy. You can't get more flexible than to conduct military operations while talking peace. I mean, come on. Give the Soddys a break, why doncha? Sheesh!
The UN Security Council on Monday threw its weight behind fledgling Yemen peace talks in Kuwait, urging all sides in the negotiations to be constructive.

The 15-member council stressed the importance of agreeing on a “roadmap” to implement security measures including the withdrawal of heavy weapons.

Envoys from the Saudi-backed government and the Houthi militias began talks in Kuwait on Thursday to end a war that intensified in March last year, when a Saudi-led coalition launched an air-strike campaign.

“The council reiterates its call to all parties to engage in peace talks in a flexible and constructive manner without preconditions, and in good faith,” the council statement said.

Council members urged negotiators to agree on a framework of “principles, mechanisms and processes” for reaching a comprehensive peace deal that would “bring about a permanent end to the conflict.”

The peace talks got under way after a ceasefire entered into force on April 11 that the United Nations says is largely holding despite some pockets of violence.

The negotiations represent the best hope in months for a settlement to the conflict, which has killed more than 6,800 people, displaced 2.8 million and brought the already-impoverished country to its knees.

Yemen ranks among the world’s worst humanitarian crises, according to the United Nations, with more than 80 percent of the population in dire need of relief assistance.

Admiral William McRaven and the Greatest of Special Ops: Saving America
[Observer] In an essay in The Wall Street Journal recently, Thomas C. Reed proposed that, to "stiffen the collective spines of our allies in this time of troubles," American conservatives might think of advancing a military leader for president.

"It’s Eisenhower Time for Republicans" read the headline of Mr. Reed’s essay, in which the former U.S. Air Force secretary described the desperation of the anyone-but-Trump element in the GOP this way: "Republicans, contemplating an avalanche of Donald-detonated losses in the fall, dream of a savior emerging from the Cleveland convention."

These murmurings and hopes might have begun with a small group of conservatives who have become enchanted by the idea of James Mattis, a retired U.S. Marine Corps general who last served as commander of U.S. Central Command, running for president. He is known as the "warrior monk" and is said to have carried with him during deployments a copy of Meditations, a classic tome of stoicism written by Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius. Mr. Mattis has routinely batted down the idea of running for the White House, and said last week he believes that calls for him to do so are symptomatic of a nation that has lost its way. "No, I haven’t given any thought to it," Mr. Mattis remarked during an appearance at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. "It’s like America’s lost confidence and lost faith and rational thought."

Europe
Greece sends another 49 migrants back to Turkey
Better than nothing...
[FRANCE24] Greece returned another 49 migrants colonists to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Tuesday under a controversial EU-Turkey deal to reduce the influx, a police source said, three weeks after the first deportations.

The latest expulsions came as tensions flared at a migrants colonists' camp on the Greek island of Lesbos during a visit by Migration Minister Yannis Mouzalas.

A government source told AFP that a "misunderstanding" triggered a disturbance at the Moria camp on Lesbos, one of several Greek islands that have seen a massive influx of migrants colonists setting sail from nearby Turkey.

The unaccompanied minors section of the camp was particularly affected by the unrest, the source said.

Images posted on Twitter showed burning rubbish and parts of the camp being evacuated. Other posts suggested that a police officer had struck a young male in the camp, although this could not immediately be verified.

The Moria camp became a closed detention camp when the EU-Turkey deal came into force on March 20. Around 3,000 people are currently being held there awaiting news of their fate.

"They are anxious and frustrated, not knowing what is going to happen to them," said Boris Cheshirkov, front man for the UN refugee agency on Lesbos.

Machar took up the post under the terms of a peace agreement reached eight months ago, implementation of which had been repeatedly delayed by disputes between Machar and the government of President Salva Kiir.

"Now that Dr. Riek has taken the oath of the first vice president, we will immediately proceed with the establishment of the transitional government of national unity," Kiir said after Machar was sworn in at the president’s office. "I ask you to join me and my brother Riek Machar in peace and reconciliation."

Machar was greeted by government officials, members of his SPLM-In-Opposition party, diplomats and officials from the United Nations
