Trump needs to make heads roll at the CIA and FBI
[NYP] One of the thorniest questions facing the incoming Trump administration is what to do about America’s increasingly dysfunctional intelligence community, known collectively by its acronym, the IC. Made up of no fewer than 16 different agencies, the IC includes marquee services like the CIA and the National Security Agency, as well as more obscure spook fiefdoms such as Defense Intelligence Agency (serving the military) and the National Reconnaissance Office, which monitors America’s national-security concerns via satellites.

In the aftermath of Sept. 11., George W. Bush hastily reorganized the IC, creating the elephantine Department of Homeland Security to absorb some agencies, demoting the Director of Central Intelligence (formerly the nation’s top spy) to a subaltern and placing the entire IC under the aegis of a new Director of National Intelligence, who reports directly to the president.

Result: more bureaucrats, more staffers, more buildings -- but little if any improvement in national security. Indeed, you can argue we’re worse off today than we were 15 years ago.

Muslim terrorists run rampant at home. Abroad, the Russian bear hungrily eyes the Baltics and would love to snack again on Ukraine. In the Far East, China contests what’s left of the US Navy for control of the South China Sea, while an increasingly bellicose North Korea lobs missiles over Japan. And in Iran, the mullahs work on their bomb.

Trump’s first order of business, therefore, is to take control, firmly, by dissolving Homeland Security and cashiering the DNI, a jolly figure of comic relief named James Clapper. Another firing that would do wonders for morale is the prompt sacking of CIA Director John Brennan, widely derided as a careerist, yes-man and Islamophile.

Trump might consider splitting the agency, separating its intelligence-gathering arm (the spies) from its analytical operations. The Agency’s great weakness has long been falling in love with both its own expertise and with the nation’s adversaries -- which is why it’s failed to predict everything from the fall of the shah to the collapse of the Soviet Union. If stability is your goal, it’s easy to see no evil.

As the Clinton e-mails fiasco has shown, the FBI needs to be removed from the Justice Department and de-politicized. These days, its work is more about stopping terrorists than chasing bank robbers in Omaha, so its relationship to the CIA perhaps ought to be more like the UK secret services, MI5 (domestic) and MI6 (foreign), working together instead of antagonistically.

The lesser agencies, split among Defense, Treasury, DHS, State and the Energy departments could use consolidation and streamlining, so they better serve the current, overriding national purpose of defeating Islamic terrorism, and not the interests of their parent agencies.

In short, what we need is a leaner IC, relieved from political pressure and acting in concert for the preservation of the nation.

Germany plans to stop migrant boats from crossing Mediterranean
[Jpost] Germany is proposing a plan to stop migrants from crossing the Mediterranean in order to stop large number of migrants from dying.

The German government is pushing for maritime patrols to pick up migrants and refugees, and send them back to apply for asylum in African countries.
It's the 'send them back' part which worries me - as your Al Smith was fond of saying...

Australia and the United States have agreed to a 'one off' immigration deal that could see about 1800 refugees in offshore detention centres sent to America.

Boston Rent-A-Mob Protest In Manchester, NH
I saw the first posts on my Facebook page a little after 4:00 PM yesterday. A minute later it occurred to me, as it is the obvious conclusion - they were bussed in from Boston, where similar protests have been going on since Wednesday night.

It was an easy call - I'm pretty sure this has never happened in Manchester before; there's no history of then protesting jack squat. Naturally this angle is ignored by the press (it's the Concord Monitor - think of them as the little Boston Globe). If I were living there, I'd have looked for the buses, probably off of Canal Street, which runs parallel to Elm Street but a few blocks away, and they can come in from the Amoskeag Bridge exit and get there within 3 or 4 blocks and not attract too much attention. I'd have checked their tires for the correct air pressure, just to make sure they'd have a safe trip home...

As the sun began to set along Elm Street in Manchester Saturday, the sidewalk outside city hall filled, as men, women and children carried signs in protest of president elect Donald Trump.

The crowd chanted "Love Trumps Hate" and "Not My President" among other slogans as cars drove by and honked. Just across the street were several men, one holding a "Don’t Tread On Me" flag in support of Trump.

Both sides remained relatively peaceful, though Manchester Police officers did approach one Trump supporter. They asked Manchester resident John Camden to tone it down after his yelling escalated, at one point him telling those across the street to "come and get me."

Hillary Clinton Blames F.B.I. Director for Election Loss

It's never their fault, is it. Did Comey do the pay-for-play? No. Did he set up a private server to avoid FOIA? No. Is he a fake, a congenital liar, and an unlikeable bitch? No.
Presidential candidates have a long history of blaming forces outside their control for their losses. In 2004, John Kerry linked his defeat to a videotape of Osama bin Laden that appeared days before the election, stoking fears about terrorism. In 2012, Mitt Romney told donors he had lost because President Obama had vowed to bestow "gifts" on Democratic special interests groups, namely African-Americans, Hispanics and young people.
actually true. The "Free Shit" crowd votes themselves goodies
Mrs. Clinton's contention appears to be more rooted in reality ‐ and hard data. An internal campaign memo with polling data said that "there is no question that a week from Election Day, Secretary Clinton was poised for a historic win," but that, in the end, "late-breaking developments in the race proved one hurdle too many for us to overcome."

Still, Mrs. Clinton’s instinct to shun any personal responsibility angered some Democrats. Several donors on the call, while deeply bitter about Mr. Comey's actions, said they believed that Mrs. Clinton and her campaign had suffered avoidable missteps that handed the election to an unacceptable opponent. They pointed to the campaign's lack of a compelling message for white working-class voters and to decisions years ago by Mrs. Clinton to use a private email address at the State Department and to accept millions of dollars for speeches to Wall Street.

"There is a special place in hell for Clinton staff, allegedly including Cheryl Mills, that okayed the email server setup," Jim Manley, a Democratic strategist and former senior aide to Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, wrote on Sidewire, a social media site, referring to a longtime aide and lawyer to Mrs. Clinton.

Fracking poisons ground water myth busted - EPA is at fault for myth
[HotAir] In some of the biggest news which will not come as "news" to anyone who follows the industry, the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality concluded a two year study this week into reports of ground water contamination in Pavillion, Wyoming. There had been reports of "foul smelling water" in two test wells drilled by the EPA near one of the many drilling sites in the gas field half a decade ago. The initial EPA report which was ready to blame fracking for the contamination immediately came under heavy criticism in the scientific community and was never released. Still the Wyoming DEQ went ahead with this extensive investigation. Their conclusion? There was no contamination of the ground water from the drilling sites and the EPA most likely caused the problem themselves.
A final state report released Thursday on foul-smelling well water in Wyoming contradicts an EPA report from five years ago that ignited a national backlash when it suggested hydraulic fracturing was the cause of the contamination.

Bacteria were more likely to blame for the problem in Pavillion than the oil and gas drilling process known as fracking, officials with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality said after a two-year study that was hailed by fracking advocates.

"Today's announcement from the Wyoming DEQ doesn't just close the case on Pavillion, it's a knockout blow for activists who have tried to use Pavillion as a key talking point for their ban-fracking agenda," said Randy Hildreth, Colorado director of Energy in Depth, an advocacy arm of the Independent Petroleum Association of America.
Oh gee... the tyranical Obama EPA spun something for political gain? I'm SHOCKED!!
The AP story really doesn't go into the level of detail we need to fully grasp what a debacle this is for the EPA. To get those sorts of facts you'll want to see the analysis – complete with photos – over at Energy Indepth. Since the contaminants found in the test wells didn't match anything going into the ground at the fracking site, the DEQ finally sent a camera down into the wells. What do you suppose they found? First of all, the EPA well was drilled in a defective fashion. The artificial materials in the well almost certainly came from the drilling process when the EPA dug the wells.
A government agency fucked up a relatively routine operation. Weird.
Second, the junk they allowed in there clogged the screens down at the base of the well. This allowed stagnant, standing water to build up at the bottom and it became infested with bacteria and biological agents. (As happens with any stagnant pools of water.) The bacterial infestation was what was causing the smell. The origin of the problem the EPA has been complaining about since 2011 was almost certainly caused by… you guessed it… the EPA. Randy Hildreth at Energy Indepth explains why this should close the books on these claims by anti-fracking activists once and for all.
Sounds like they are just as good at drilling wells as keeping rivers free of poison.
The report is a devastating blow for the national environmental activist campaign against fracking, which has made Pavillion a key talking point in its effort to shut down oil and gas development across the country. For years, anti-fracking activists have misrepresented and exaggerated the EPA's initial conclusions to support their calls for a nationwide fracking ban. They have also ignored serious criticisms of the EPA's work by state environmental regulators and even other federal agencies, namely the U.S. Geological Survey and the Bureau of Land Management, in their desperate attempt to build a case for banning fracking.

Those criticisms from state and federal officials have focused on a pair of water-quality monitoring wells, drilled by the EPA, which were poorly constructed and likely introduced the very contaminants that some have tried to blame on fracking. Eventually, under the weight of these criticisms, the EPA backed down. The agency never submitted its draft report, released in late 2011, for peer review and handed the Pavillion case back to state regulators.
So there will be Fracking opened up on Federal lands immediately and a public apology put forth by the government? Yeah, I didn't think so either. I expect them to double down on stupid.
The actual results of the EPA monitoring well study (once you subtract out the bacteria introduced by their own mistake) were the same as other tests done across the country. In Pennsylvania the energy companies engaged in fracking there allowed the state DEQ to inject special chemical markers into their drilling fluid and then monitor test wells nearby for a period of years. Those special markers don't occur in nature, so if they showed up in the drinking water we'd know where they came from.

Not one single well ever tested positive for the markers over the entire period of study.

The sad but still hilarious part of this story is that once again the EPA caused their own problems when attempting to drill a well. Remember what happened when they starting boring into the ground at the Gold King mine? Perhaps the people at the Environmental Protection Agency shouldn't be allowed to play with any drilling equipment until they get some comprehensive training in how to use it from the energy industry. Maybe Trump can look into that as one of his first executive orders for the EPA.
The EPA and most of its workers need to be fired and brought up on RICO charges for fraud, graft and obstruction.

#8  Fracking can cause earthquakes - at least indirectly: Fracked fields tend to produce very large volumes of water (and a tiny bit of leftover frac fluid) along with their oil or gas. That water is usually re-injected into a large, deep (1-2 miles), permeable rock layer. If an earthquakable fault cuts the injection well or rock layer near the injection point the fluid pressure may counteract the pressure holding the rocks on either side of the fault together - think of an air hockey table and puck - and the fault may slip, to relieve the natural stresses on it. In general this is not 'creating' an earthquake, but it is 'triggering' one sooner than it would otherwise occur. I am familiar with one study 15 years or so ago of seismicity in the Barnett Shale gas play in the Dallas area (the first major fracked shale play): one small quake was definitively the result of fluid injection and a few others possibly, but the rest (90% IIRC) were clearly not related. (The recent - and unusually large - Oklahoma quakes were not in an area of fracking or other major wastewater injection.) For a while the concept (fluid injection into fault zones) was considered as a way of preventing large earthquakes, but liability issues and the fact that to prevent one large one it would take thousands of small ones, which people would not accept.

Clarice Feldman: CTRL-L: The Left Loses Its Unremitting Fight for Control
My friend Professor Charles Lipson has suggested this title -- CTRL-L as an alternate to Alt-R not only because it’s a witty rejoinder to the tag, but as well because it accurately describes the left, a faction always seeking control over us. And they lost handily on Tuesday.

This week the left -- its propagandizing press, pollsters, and university leftist monoculture -- suffered a long deserved and punishing blow, but what it could not win at the ballot box it is attempting to regain in the streets. They seem to want elections to be resolved by the number of people they can turn out to riot and disrupt.

A brief recap of the most astonishing electoral turnabout in recent memory.

1.) The Media and the Pollsters lost their clout by incompetence and deceit

Pre-election night polls and media coverage reflected that leftist monoculture.

The pollsters should now begin shuttering their shops and looking for real work. After months of predicting a certain substantial Hillary win, they predicted the following results:

NBC/SM: Clinton +6

Ipsos: Clinton +4

NBC/WSJ: Clinton +4

ABC/WaPo: Clinton +4

Herald: Clinton +4

Bloomberg: Clinton +3

Only IBD and Dornslife predicted a Trump win.

Trump Acceptance Resistance Disorder (TARD) is a pattern of pathologically dissociative and psychotic behavior, first observed in the late hours of November 8th 2016, and increasing in severity with passing time.

Sufferers of TARD often exhibit pronounced cognitive dissonance, sudden bouts of rage, uncontrollable crying, suicidal ideation, and extreme sadness.

People with TARD are characterized by a persistent unwillingness to accept that Donald Trump is going to Make America Great Again.

Individual sufferers often display signs of paranoia and delusion; in acute cases psychotic episodes have been observed.

TARD is different from being upset about the results of the 2016 presidential election; People with TARD are unwilling or unable to accept reality, despite irrefutable evidence.

According to the DSM-V, individuals with TARD exhibit most or all of the following symptoms:

- Telling others they are moving to Canada

- Fixated on fantasies about the Electoral College

- Protesting an election no credible source contests the outcome of

- Exclamations that “Someone” should do “Something”

- Acute change in demeanor from pompous and arrogant to fearful and combative

- Claim that anyone who disagrees with them is some combination of Racist, Sexist, Bigoted, Homophobic, and actually some sort of Hitler persona

Causes and Mechanisms:

TARD was directly caused by the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States of America.

For many, both in America and worldwide, this was a shocking and unexpected outcome; their preferred news sources having failed to inform them that the alternative candidate was a criminal parasite in such ill health she got chucked into the back of a van like a kidnap victim.

Diagnosis:

Diagnosis of TARD is straightforward.

Ask the patient if Donald Trump is going to be the Next President of the United States of America.

Some patients will become agitated, and may attempt to deflect.

It’s critical you press them on the issue, even if they start babbling about ‘muh triggers’.

A sufferer of TARD will begin to ramble incoherently, often displaying three or more of the symptoms within a short period of time.

Treatment:

The only known effective treatment is exposure therapy.

The patient must be repeatedly exposed to reality, and should wear a Make America Great Again hat as long as they are able to tolerate it.

Each exposure should increase in length, after a week the patient should be encouraged to be seen in public wearing the MAGA hat.

Coach the patient to refer to Donald Trump as President-Elect Trump.

Patients with TARD are very resistant to treatment, and dangerous in large groups.

Any possibility of treatment requires that they be separated from their hive-mind support apparatus; they cannot begin the process of accepting reality in the presence of encouragement towards delusion and irrationality.

Separation may require the assistance of law enforcement.

If you have a friend or loved one suffering from TARD, urge them to seek treatment.

Together we can beat this scourge, and Make America Great Again!

Europe
Prob'ly found in Syria: Bataclan terror massacre mastermind
In Syria? The odds of him soon meeting his maker in an astoundingly uncomfortable way has greatly increased.
[DailyMail] Mastermind is the Belgian-Moroccan cousin of brothers who blew themselves up in Brussels airport attack

French Sherlocks have identified Oussama Atar - a cousin of the brothers who blew themselves up in the March 22 attacks in Brussels - as the criminal mastermind of last November's Gay Paree attacks.

Atar, 32, has dual Belgian and Moroccan nationality and is now thought to be in ISIS territory in Syria.
They were hunting him in August, so it's nice they at least know where he is.
He was already a suspect in the Brussels attacks by his cousins, the El Bakraoui brothers, but has now been linked to the atrocities in Gay Paree on November 13 last year.

It is not clear if Atar, who uses the pseudonym Abou Ahmad, was in Gay Paree last year or plotted the attacks from Syria.

But a source told AFP: 'He's the only coordinator from Syria to have been identified during the investigations.'

French Sherlocks have long suspected that the Gay Paree attacks, in which teams of jihadists killed 130 people, were coordinated by one or several people from Syria, but have never named anyone before.

Another two cousins, Moustapha and Jawad Benhattal, were jugged
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
on June 18 on suspicion of planning an attack in Belgium during a public screening of a Euro 2016 football match.

La Belle France is gearing up to mark this weekend the anniversary of the Gay Paree attacks.

The Bataclan concert hall, where 90 people died during a show attacked by three gunnies, is set to reopen on Saturday with a special concert by Sting.

Asylum seeker who kayaked to Britain faces rape inquiry: Home Office investigates after aid worker alleges attack on Jungle volunteer was covered up
13/11/16
Man will be questioned over the alleged rape of a British charity worker in the Jungle camp (right). The migrant, who claims to be Iranian - but whose identity cannot be revealed (left) - crossed the Channel on October 29. It's claimed that aid workers hushed up the incident in Calais eight months ago and the victim did not report it to French police because she feared her allegation might 'stigmatise' refugees. But now an aid worker has alerted the UK police, saying that 'rape is rape'. A Home Office source confirmed that the man is due to be questioned about the allegation.

Dreams Turn to Sex Slave Nightmares for Nigeria's Trafficked Women
Not Moslem colonists, mostly, but they are floating down the current of that river nowadays. There is plenty of evidence that similar trafficking has been happening using the river of mostly non-Moslem colonists coming to America. But I haven't heard anything about an organization on our border trying to fish these girls out of the flow.
[AnNahar] They arrive in their hundreds every month, their heads full of dreams of new lives in Europe. In reality, many of them are destined for years of sexual slavery.

And in Italia's migrant-saturated southern ports, prising these young Nigerian girls away from their traffickers is a formidable challenge.

With each new landing of migrants colonists colonists rescued at sea, the well-worn processing procedures have an almost ritualistic aspect to them: a first identification interview, cuddly toys for the children and a specialist from the International Organization for Migration paying particular attention to any young women.

Nigerian females have been landing in Italia in significant numbers since the 1980s, lured by the promise of jobs only to find themselves with colossal debts to the traffickers who got them here.

The trade has went kaboom! in recent years. According to IOM figures, 433 Nigerian women arrived in 2013, 1,454 in 2014, 5,653 last year and 7,768 in the first nine months of 2016.

"We estimate that between 70 and 80 percent of them are in danger of being forced into prostitution," said the IOM's Luca Pianese, adding that the numbers do not include hundreds of minors.

Some of the women will end up working on the streets of Italia, others in La Belle La Belle France, Spain, Austria or other European countries where demand seems to grow incessantly.

Pianese, who works as part of a 13-strong team that includes two women of Nigerian origin, has learned how to spot the signs that newly arrived women have been trafficked.

Most of the victims come from Edo state in southern Nigeria, they invariably have had only the most basic education and say they can remember little about how they got from Nigeria to the Mediterranean.

Usually the women have a phone number they have been told to call when they arrive.

Sometimes they will be accompanied by a minder. "You have to separate them from false sisters and pretend husbands," said Pianese.

Then comes the painful bit. "They arrive here full of hope, confident they are headed for a better future," the aid worker says.

"Unfortunately our duty is to smash their dream."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Report: Iranian general reveals information about arming of Hezbollah
[Jpost] An Iranian senior military official on Friday confirmed that the Islamic Theocratic Republic is manufacturing weapons in the war-torn city of Aleppo, according to London-based Arabic daily Asharq al-Awsat.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri said that missile production facilities had been transferred to the besieged Syrian city over the past few years, marking the first admission by a senior Iranian official that Tehran is producing weapons on foreign land.

The military general, speaking at a cultural ceremony in Tehran earlier this week, also revealed that missiles manufactured at the Aleppo facilities were used by Hezbollah during its 33-day war with Israel in June of 2006.

The information was not much of a revelation to rebel Syrian fighters, according to Asharq al-Awsat, who have fought against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...
in a bloody civil war for the past five-years.

"Iranian military production on Syrian soil started in 2002 as part of a deal inked between Bashir al-Assad and the Iranian leadership," Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
Commander Col. Ahmed Rahal told Asharq al-Awsat.

"The Iranian information is very accurate and true," he continued, adding that "Iranian military production in Syria is part of a comprehensive military and economic plan between the countries."

Bagheri also responded to a threat issued by US President-elect Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, who said in September that any Iranian vessels that harass the US Navy in the Gulf would be "shot out of the water" if he were elected.

Bagheri called the statement a "joke," and commented that Trump "ate too much sugar" during campaigns, a Farsi proverb referring to nonsense, according to Asharq al-Awsat.

Nearly 500,000 people have been killed since the Syrian civil war began in 2011, according to the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
, with over half the population being displaced from their homes.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Experts Agree: The Clinton Foundation Won't Survive
[Political Insider] Hillary Clinton is the most corrupt politician in the history of America. It took the powerful political skills of a true outsider like Donald Trump to defeat her, along with the political establishment and biased mainstream media.

But now, the question remains: What happens to the Clinton Foundation? It first received its nonprofit status when started during the fundraising efforts for President Bill Clinton’s presidential library in Little Rock, Arkansas. But the group quickly became the place for foreign dictators and despots to buy access to Hillary Clinton while serving as President Obama’s Secretary of State. The activities at the foundation are exactly why Clinton ran a private home email server- She didn’t want public record of the business deals she was making, which made her family wealthy.

It was a money laundering operation which allowed unlimited foreign money into the American political process, and sold our government to the highest foreign bidder.

Now, under a Trump administration, experts agree that the Foundation’s days are numbered:
Con't.

#4  As I understand it, this case is being pursued under a grand jury originally appointed by NYPD, which is well-experienced with prosecuting RICO cases. Whatever other sins the Clinton Foundation may have committed, it is probably safe to say that their activities met the RICO standard. The only question is: can "the legal system" withstand the massive pressure from the entrenched Clinton Cartel, and actually obtain arrest warrants, leading to convictions.

My gut feel is: that is a "bridge too far" - but we can only hope for such intestinal fortitude.

Washington Times' Wes Pruden: Drowning the elites in the gene pool
[Wash Times] The 2016 elections are a gift that keeps on giving, and nothing has been sweeter than watching the chattering class being taken back to school. Rarely has smug arrogance been so sharply rebuked. It’s delicious to watch. Yum, yum.

The pundits and talking heads particularly relish the finding in the exit polls that most of Donald Trump’s votes appeared to be coming from white working-class stiffs "without a college education." What should you expect from someone who had never seen the inside of the Student Union?

A college education is a fine thing, and a few years with access to a library and a conscientious professor is a reward that pays dividends for a lifetime. "A mind is a terrible thing to waste," as a familiar television commercial once reminded us. Or as an earlier vice president, Dan Quayle, put it, "it’s a terrible thing to lose your mind."

But a college education is no substitute for a native appetite for knowledge, wherever found and however acquired. Harry S Truman was one of our most lettered presidents; no other president and few historians had his knowledge and understanding of the office and of the presidents before him.
Yet he never attended college, and had to go to work behind a brace of mules on the family farm and could not finish high school.

He turned out to be one of the nation’s most effective presidents, presiding at a particularly troubled time, first in war and then in tense peace. Abraham Lincoln read the Bible and borrowed books to read by the flickering light of the fireside. "Educated" or not, he turned out pretty well.

A college education is not a requisite for casting an intelligent ballot, either. William F. Buckley, a Yale man and an educated consumer of the book of knowledge, said he "would rather be governed by the first 2,000 people in the Boston telephone book than by the entire faculty of Harvard." Nevertheless, the book-proud sometimes never get over a sheepskin.

David Brooks, a columnist for The New York Times, despaired on election eve of the grim consequences of enabling the white, the less educated and those deprived of a college education to cancel the votes of the credentialed. Hillary calls them the deplorables.

Things must have changed. A few college hours were the only general requirement back in the old days which could be picked up at most installations after hours. However, back then, unlike today you didn't need a college education to be a senior NCO. It became a discriminator when I was retiring. Just doesn't make sense to have a senior NCO with a college degree and 18 years of experience under a new shave tail 2LT with a college degree and zip experience. #9  The exit polls were wrong -- most of those who voted for Mr. Trump declined to be interviewed for the same reasons thwt they declined to be polled. An Nahar has some statistics:

Here is a look at who voted for whom in the biggest political upset in American politics for generations:

- Middle Class and Educated -

Half of Americans who are considered middle class, making $100,000 a year or more, voted for the 70-year-old billionaire according to USA Today's exit polls.

Forty-three percent of people with college degrees backed the Republican, although post-graduates voted overwhelmingly for Clinton, the Democrat, at 58 percent to 35 percent.

"We wanted to send a message that there's too much government ruling our life and that had to stop," said Rolando Chumaceiro, a family doctor who lives in affluent White Plains, New York.

Lower income voters leaned towards Clinton but their support had eroded since President Barack Obama's election in 2012, perhaps fueled in part by resentment of the high costs associated with Obamacare.

Sidney Blumenthal: ‘Right-Wing' FBI Agents Took Down Hillary In A ‘Coup D'Etat' [VIDEO]
[Daily Caller] Longtime Clinton insider Sidney Blumenthal claims that a group of "right-wing agents" in the FBI staged a coup d’etat to prevent Hillary Clinton from behind elected president.

Blumenthal, a former journalist who has been nicknamed "Grassy Knoll" by some in Clintonworld because of his tendency to latch on to conspiracy theories, made the charge in an interview on Dutch television after Clinton’s loss to Donald Trump.

"It was the result of a cabal of right-wing agents of the FBI in the New York office attached to Rudy Giuliani, who was a member of Trump’s campaign," said Blumenthal, who emailed frequently with Clinton while she was secretary of state.

"I think it’s not unfair to call it a coup," added Blumenthal, who served in the Bill Clinton White House aide and was said to be an informal adviser to Hillary Clinton.

New York Times publisher vows to 'rededicate' paper to reporting honestly
The publisher of The New York Times penned a letter to readers Friday promising that the paper would "reflect" on its coverage of this year's election while rededicating itself to reporting on "America and the world" honestly.
You'll have to changes to yourself at the DNA level. You'll need to fire the publisher, the editors, and the lunatic fringe reporters and consultants. Keep the token conservatives and hire a bunch more conservatives to balance the remaining "reasonable" liberals. You have all the typewriters, presses and delivery channels in place, you just need honest journalists in front of the typewriters. Aaaaand you'll have to acquaint everybody with what journalism's solemn role is supposed to be in a democracy, news ethics, etc.. Personally, I don't think anyone there has the political will for much more than token gestures towards this end. Instead, they will build some kind of facade and hope their readers don't figure it out. They probably won't. And they will limp forward to the next Democratic administration, scratching out paychecks, after which they will go back to full-moonbat mode over the course of a couple of years.
Arthur O. Sulzberger Jr., the paper's embattled publisher, appealed to Times readers for their continued support.

"We cannot deliver the independent, original journalism for which we are known without the loyalty of our subscribers," the letter states.
Known? How long into the past are you peering? How many of your present readers were paying attention to your content then?
New York Post columnist and former Times reporter Michael Goodwin wrote, "because it (The Times) demonized Trump from start to finish, it failed to realize he was onto something. And because the paper decided that Trump's supporters were a rabble of racist rednecks and homophobes, it didn't have a clue about what was happening in the lives of the Americans who elected the new president.
Hey, it was an easy paycheck to feed the opinions of a bunch of delusional liberals looking for good feels in a tough world.
Sulzbergers letter was released after the paper's public editor, Liz Spayd, took the paper to task for its election coverage. She pointed out how its polling feature Upshot gave Hillary Clinton an 84 percent chance as voters went to the polls.
Personally, they probably believed it was higher, they just wanted wiggle room in case things didn't go as planned.
She compared stories that the paper ran about President-elect Donald Trump and Clinton, where the paper made Clinton look functional and organized and the Trump discombobulated.
Ha! Your chosen candidate got outmaneuvered by a moron! Good luck correcting that gracefully.
Spayd wrote, "Readers are sending letters of complaint at a rapid rate. Here's one that summed up the feelings succinctly, from Kathleen Casey of Houston: "Now, that the world has been upended and you are all, to a person, in a state of surprise and shock, you may want to consider whether you should change your focus from telling the reader what and how to think, and instead devote yourselves to finding out what the reader (and nonreaders) actually think."
So why would Kathleen read or stand by this rag? Does Kathleen really exist?
She wrote about another reader who asked that the paper should focus on the electorate instead of "pushing the limited agenda of your editors."
Ditto.
"Please come down from your New York City skyscraper and join the rest of us."
Ditto.
Sulzberger--who insisted that the paper covered both candidates fairly-- also sent a note to staffers on Friday reminding the newsroom to "give the news impartially, without fear or favor."
Said the frog to the scorpions.
"But we also approach the incoming Trump administration without bias," he said.
We? You mean everyone turned on a dime? What supreme management skills you have there. How do you do it?

And there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and there will be many mournful post-mortems, not one of which will address the real reason it died - that it completely lost touch with the people it claimed to want to inform.

Cost of Klingons attempting to train so-called moderate Syrian muslims rises
[WAPO] The three Army Special Forces soldiers killed at a Jordanian military base this month were working for a CIA program to train moderate Syrian fighters when they were shot at a checkpoint under still-unclear circumstances, U.S. officials said.

The Nov. 4 slayings of the three soldiers is believed to be the deadliest single incident involving a CIA team since December 2009, when seven officers and contractors were killed in a suicide bombing in Khost, Afghanistan.

The Fort Campbell, Ky.-based soldiers -- all members of the 5th Special Forces Group -- were killed by a Jordanian soldier at an entry control point to Prince Faisal Air Base near Jafr, in the southern desert about 150 miles south of the capital, Amman, according to the officials. The shooter also was wounded in what was described by U.S. and Middle Eastern sources as an exchange of gunfire.

The soldiers, identified as Staff Sgt. Matthew Lewellen, Staff Sgt. Kevin McEnroe and Staff Sgt. James Moriarty, were among roughly 2,000 U.S. troops working in Jordan while participating in the U.S.-led campaign fighting the Islamic State. Some of the troops have been assigned to mobile artillery units along the Jordanian border while others assist CIA-led training programs for Syrian opposition fighters.

The CIA declined to comment on the shooting incident or on the soldiers’ possible role in agency programs.

Dow chalks up best week in five years, closes at record high
[Reuters] The Dow Jones industrial average ended at a record closing high on Friday, capping off its best week since 2011 after Donald Trump's unexpected victory in the U.S. presidential election.

Since his triumph on Tuesday, investors have been betting on Trump's campaign promises to simplify regulation in the health and financial sectors and boost spending on infrastructure.

"Wall Street is going to be watching a lot of (Trump's) appointments and policy announcements to see whether it validates the more optimistic tone we've seen in the markets in the past few days," said Alan Gayle, senior investment strategist and director of asset allocation at RidgeWorth Investments in Atlanta, Georgia.

The S&P 500 financial index .SPSY has gained 8 percent in the past three sessions and risen to levels not seen since 2008 during the financial crisis. The financial index has still not recovered to levels seen before the crisis.

Industrials .SPLRCI have surged 5 percent since the election and healthcare .SPXHC is up 3 percent.

Tempering sentiment among stock investors, Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Stanley Fischer said on Friday economic growth prospects appear strong enough for a gradual hike in interest rates, but the U.S. central bank is monitoring an increase in long-term government borrowing costs.

ISIS: Rent U-Haul as a Weapon, Target Thanksgiving Day Parade or Political Rallies
[PJ] Following up on their October instructions for lone jihadists to conduct knife attacks, the Islamic State's latest magazine offers tactical instructions on how to use a vehicle as a weapon to inflict the greatest damage.

Their muse, of course, is Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, who plowed a cargo truck through a crowd of Bastille Day revelers in Nice, France, this summer.

"Vehicles are like knives, as they are extremely easy to acquire. But unlike knives, which if found in one’s possession can be a cause for suspicion, vehicles arouse absolutely no doubts due to their widespread use throughout the world," states the article in the third issue of Rumiyah, ISIS' recently launched monthly English-language magazine, adding that cars are one of the "safest and easiest" weapons as well as "most successful in harvesting large numbers of the kuffar [disbelievers]."

ISIS encourages shying away from budget sedans and "off-roaders, SUVs, and four-wheel drive vehicles" that "lack the necessary attributes required for causing a blood bath" as "smaller vehicles lack the weight and wheel span required for crushing many victims." They recommended trucks with double wheels for "giving victims less of a chance to escape being crushed by the vehicle’s tires." Long semi trucks are discouraged because of the possibility of jack-knifing.

The article encourages jihadists to find a vehicle with a "metal outer frame which are usually found in older cars, as the stronger outer frame allows for more damage to be caused when the vehicle is slammed into crowds, contrary to newer cars that are usually made of plastics and other weaker materials."

A picture of a U-Haul truck is shown with the caption "an affordable weapon."

China-Japan-Koreas
'Kim Fatty III' reference to Kim Jong Un deleted from Chinese Internet
North Korean authorities may have requested Beijing to block searches of a phrase that mocks Kim Jong Un, according to reports.
Apparently Nork censors have given up trying to keep up with Dr. Steve's mockery of Kim Jong Nom.
Hong Kong news service Apple Daily had reported a derogatory nickname for Kim, "Kim Fatty III," was producing no results on Chinese social media networks and on search engine giant Baidu.

The report suggested Pyongyang might have protested the term.
And shortly after the protest was lodged, the censor who filed the complaint disappeared out of fear he was introduced to the idea that Pudgy may not be perfect, after all.
That news article, however, has also been deleted from search results on Chinese networks, according to South Korean newspaper Herald Business.

Reports say the epithet for North Korea's leader was still searchable in September. By October and November, the results were being censored.

Chinese online commenters began making fun of Kim after December 2011, when he was seen mourning his father during a ceremony in Pyongyang, according to China Digital Times.

The search term was not available as recently as Tuesday, the report stated, but social media users were sharing screenshots of what appeared to be the Apple Daily headline which read, "North Korea Requests Chinese People Respectfully Address Kim Jong Un, Not Call Him Other Names or Kim Fatty III!"

Chinese commenters have frequently used the term on networks to air their frustrations at the North Korean ruler.

In August, Beijing was enforcing a new policy to curb anti-North Korea speech ridiculing Kim and in September an anti-Kim Jong Un rally was held in a Chinese city but photographs of the protest were promptly deleted by Chinese government censors.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian regime rolls back rebel gains in Aleppo
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Syrian government forces have recaptured all of the areas taken by rebel fighters in a recent assault intended to break the regime siege on eastern Aleppo, a monitor said Saturday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the army had recaptured key areas including the western district of Dahiyet al-Assad and the village of Minyan outside the city.

The reversals undo all of the progress made during a recent push by opposition fighters, including former al-Qaeda affiliate Fateh al-Sham
...formerly al-Nusra, the current false nose and mustache of al-Qaeda in the Levant...
front, as they tried to end a government siege on eastern Aleppo city.

Also on Saturday, Russian Defense Ministry announced that one of their warship flotilla has arrived near a Syrian coast.

Government forces surrounded rebel-held east Aleppo in July, severing the last supply line into opposition neighborhoods and imposing a blockade that has led to food and fuel shortages.

Rebels have tried several times to break the siege, succeeding briefly in August, but no aid has entered the east since July.

The monitor said over 450 fighters and civilians had been killed since the rebels began their latest bid to break the siege on Oct. 28.

The dead include 215 Syrian and foreign opposition fighters, including some who carried out suicide kabooms, and 143 regime forces.

Nearly 100 civilians were also killed in the fighting, the majority of them in government-held west Aleppo, where 29 children were among those killed in waves of rebel rocket fire.

Once Syria’s economic powerhouse, Aleppo has been ravaged by the war that began with anti-government protests in March 2011.

The city has been divided since mid-2012, and in September, the government announced an operation to recapture all of Aleppo.

The government assault, backed by Russian warplanes, has killed hundreds of people in east Aleppo and damaged and destroyed infrastructure including hospitals.

More than 300,000 people have been killed in Syria’s five-year war.

The Grand Turk
Scores of ISIS operatives detained in southern Turkey
Ankara-Turkish security forces carried out an expanded campaign in a number of provinces targeting ISIS members in the country.

The forces arrested a mass number of ISIS affiliates, including foreigners.

Turkish security forces arrested 15 suspected members of the terrorist group in Sivas city, central Turkey, and Duzce, northwestern Turkey.

Security sources said that anti-terrorism forces along with the Special Forces carried out raids in Sivas, including 10 places together after receiving information pointing out that ISIS elements in the country are scheming to carry out terrorist operations.

Security forces arrested 10 people, including two women, in these raids, and confiscated many documents and books that promote extremist ideas, sources said.

In Duzce, anti-terrorism forces raided a house and arrested five people, including three foreigners, who are suspected of belonging to the terrorist organizations.

Moreover, Turkish security forces arrested 19 people who are also suspected of belonging to ISIS in Izmir and Adana during a simultaneous campaign.

In Izmir, security forces raided three places at a time and arrested five ISIS-affiliated suspects.

Security sources confirmed that the five arrested were proven to be fighting in Iraq and Syria’s conflict zones.

Meanwhile, security sources said that 29 people, including the secretary of the city’s municipality, were arrested following intelligence information stating that they blackmailed workers in the municipality’s building in order to raise funds for one of the terrorist organizations.

On the other hand, three people were injured by rocket-propelled grenades targeting the Mayor’s building in Mardin, southeastern Turkey.

Security authorities put up a cordon around the site and launched a combing operation in the city to arrest the perpetrators.

The Turkish army announced in a statement on Thursday that 19 people of Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) elements during week-long security operations carried out with the support of drones southeast the country.

Former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich Threatens Creation of Third Party
Bill Clinton's former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich talked about creating a third party if the Democratic Party does not move in a more progressive direction.

“The Democratic Party can no longer be the same; it has been repudiated,” Reich said on a conference call with members from the progressive grassroots group Democracy for America. “This has been a huge refutation of establishment politics, and the political organization has got to be changed. … If the Democratic Party can’t do it, we’ll do it through a third party.”

The Democratic Party is in an all-out civil war between the more progressive wing of the party and the more corporate wing of the party.

Some in the party are blaming progressives who supported Bernie Sanders for refusing to rally behind Hillary Clinton.

“The Sanders people should be mad at themselves,” said one well-connected Democratic strategist to the Hill. “If they had come out to vote, Donald Trump wouldn’t be president.”

Others say that the corporate wing of the party has to be purged to appeal to more working-class voters.

“Everybody in the building needs to be fired immediately,” Cenk Uygur, the host of the progressive political commentary show The Young Turks, told the Hill.

It is unknown who will lead the Democratic Party as the party looks forward to the midterm elections in 2018 and then the 2020 presidential election. But one thing Democrats agree on is that they were ineffective at turning out older, working-class voters in states like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

“There were people who felt left out of the economy over the last eight years, who were never able to get back on their feet–blue collar men and women,” former Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Colo.) said. “Donald Trump was able to capture them in terms of emotion and sentiment.”

Arabia
Yemeni troops capture Soddy base in Asir
[AlManar] Yemeni army soldiers, backed by fighters from Popular Committees, have taken full control of a military base in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern region of Asir in retaliation for the Saudi regime’s atrocious aerial bombardment campaign against Yemen.

The media bureau of the operations command in Yemen released footage on Friday afternoon showing Yemeni troopers and allied forces inspecting the hulks of damaged military vehicles at al-Nimsa base after several Saudi soldiers were killed during heavy fighting and the rest ran away.

A Yemeni fighter then shows untouched tactical vests, ammunition belts for a portable machine gun, hand grenades and rocket-propelled grenades that Saudi military forces had left behind in the wake of the Yemeni forces’ advance.

The bodies of a number of Saudi troopers could be seen scattered around as the video concludes with Yemeni soldiers and allied fighters chanting “Death to America and Israel.”
Um, boys, shouldn't you be focusing on the Saudis first? Plenty of time to go after the Jooz and infidels later...
Yemeni artillery units also lobbed a barrage of rockets at al-Dhab’ah and al-Ash bases in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern border region of Najran, leaving scores of soldiers injured.

Additionally, an unnamed Yemeni military source told Arabic-language al-Masirah television network that tens of Saudi-backed militiamen loyal to resigned president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi had been killed and wounded after Yemeni soldiers and Popular Committees thwarted their offensive against the Khabb wa ash Sha’af district of the country’s northern province of al-Jawf.

Yemeni forces also fired a BM-27 Uragan rocket at a gathering of Saudi mercenaries in the mountainous Jebel Salab region of the west-central province of Ma’rib; however, no immediate reports of casualties were available.

Also on Friday evening, Yemeni forces and their allies hit pro-Saudi gunmen in the Dhubab district of the southern Ta’izz Province, leaving scores of militants injured.

Separately, three civilians lost their lives and two others sustained injuries when Saudi fighter jets bombarded an area in the Bayt al-Faqih district of the coastal western province of Hudaydah.

Obama Must Find A Way To Explain Trump
I don't know about you folks, but I've been as happy as a pig in slop since Wednesday. This article just kept it going for another day.
It was supposed to be his grand valedictory tour. Now President Barack Obama must use his last major trip abroad to try to calm shocked world leaders about the outcome of the U.S. election, and what comes next when Donald Trump is president.

Trump's unforeseen victory has triggered pangs of uncertainty at home and grave concerns around the world. Though Obama has urged unity and said the U.S. must root for Trump's success, his trip to Greece, Germany and Peru forces him to confront global concerns about the future of America's leadership.

"In some ways, there's nothing to say," said Heather Conley, a Europe scholar at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Conley said Obama's trip, planned when it seemed certain Hillary Clinton would win, had been designed to reassure the world that the U.S. had regained its footing after a toxic campaign that unnerved foreign capitals. "Now the president has the unenviable task of telling his counterparts and explaining what Europeans are now coining 'the Trump effect,'" Conley said.
To what extent does Trump's victory put a dent in Obama's Blaze of Glory activity (i.e., last minute regulations, pardons, etc.?) I think the more time he spends doing stuff like this, the less time he'll have running his chainsaw into our backs.

CII to discuss men's protection from domestic abuse: council member
[DAWN] In its meeting scheduled to take place on November 14, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) is going to debate the subject of Pak men’s rights and their protection, CII member Sahibzada Zahid M. Qasmi told Dawn.com.

In a letter written to CII Chairman Maulana Mohammad Sheerani, Qasmi, who is also the Secretary General of Pakistain Ulema Council, proposed that a bill be passed for the protection of men’s rights.

He had requested Sheerani that the subject of men's protection from women be made part of the agenda during the council’s November 14 meeting. Thereafter, debate upon the subject was included in the agenda for the forthcoming meeting.

The letter stated that "some women in Pakistain torture men, and force them out of their houses... Islam grants rights to men as well and in this society those rights are being violated."

Qasmi, who is based in Faisalabad
...formerly known as Lyallpur, the third largest metropolis in Pakistain, the second largest in Punjab after Lahore. It is named after some Arab because the Paks didn't have anybody notable of their own to name it after...
, requested that the council discuss the matter and make recommendations for a men's protection bill similar to one for women.

When contacted regarding his motion, Qasmi told Dawn.com that when the women protection bill was passed he was contacted by men who said that while women should be given rights as is permitted in Islam and the Pak constitution, men should also be given their due rights.

Defending men's rights, he added that "some women call their brothers, fathers and other relatives to take violent measures against their husbands. In various districts of Punjab, several cases have come forth where men's nails have been pulled out or their hands and feet have been cut off. These cases have been lodged in various cop shoppes."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Russian warship flotilla now off Syrian coast
A flotilla of Russian warships is now in the eastern Mediterranean off the Syrian coast after being sent to reinforce Russia's military in the area, a naval commander said on state television.

The commander of Russia's flagship Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, Sergei Artamonov, said via videolink that the ships are now in the "designated zone... in the eastern Mediterranean" and "are now jointly carrying out tasks, manoeuvering to the west of the Syrian coast".

The battle group has travelled to Syria from the North Sea through the English Channel in the biggest such naval deployment in recent years as part of Russia's military intervention in Syria.

Russia has been flying a bombing campaign in Syria for the past year in support of President Bashar al-Assad and has deployed a naval contingent to back up its operation.

The naval task force has been monitored closely by NATO, whose chief Jens Stoltenberg voiced concern the ships would be used to support the Russian military operation in Syria and "increase human and civilian suffering."

The ship's commander was speaking to a presenter on Russia-1 television from inside the defence ministry for a news show that will air this evening in Moscow. He confirmed that aircraft are already taking off from the ship's deck to view the conflict zone.

"Flights are being carried out from the deck... they are working on coordination with the shore port," he said.

"The flights have been going on practically every day for the last four days," he added.

Russia's Interfax news agency on Friday had cited a Russian military and diplomatic source as saying that Russian MiG and Sukhoi jets have been regularly flying into Syrian airspace from the Kuznetsov to "determine combat missions."

The Russian television channel also spoke to the commander of the Pyotr Veliky nuclear-powered battle cruiser, which is part of the same flotilla.

Asked whether foreign aircraft were flying over the ships, the commander, Vladislav Malakhovsky, said "they are afraid to come closer than 50 kilometres away, realising very well how powerful the nuclear cruiser is."

Was the Hillary hiking in the woods photo staged?
[UK Daily Mail] The chance encounter a mother hiking with her daughter had with Hillary Clinton the day after losing the election may not be what it has been made out to seem.

Margot Gerster was out hiking with her daughter when she ran into Hillary and Bill Clinton in the upstate New York town of Chappaqua, where the Clintons have a home. Clinton was said to have been out walking her dogs with former president Bill Clinton, when Gerster spotted them. She took a photo with the former first lady who beamed from ear to ear, appearing to have had the weight of the world lifted from her shoulders as she stood next to Gerster.

The chance encounter Gerster had with Clinton gained national media attention as it was the first time Clinton had been photographed after losing the election.

However, some critics allege that their meeting while hiking was staged and not random at all. Adding more fuel to those claims is the fact that it's actually not the first time they've met.

When Gerster was in high school, her mother held a fundraiser for Clinton at Crabtree’s Kittle House in Chappaqua. Gerster and her sister posed for a photo with Clinton inside the restaurant which happens to be one of the politician's favorites, as the siblings smiled next to a beaming Clinton.

The fundraiser their family hosted may have been during the period of time Clinton was running for senator or when she served as senator for New York.

The caption Gerster wrote for the most recent photo of her with Clinton this week said that she was 'so heartbroken' after the Democrat's stunning loss.

Gerster has since removed both photos from her profile on Facebook.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkish army resumes anti-ISIL air strikes in Syria
Turkish warplanes hit Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) targets in west of Salva town in Syria late on Nov. 11, resuming its flights in Syrian airspace after more than two weeks of suspension.

18 members of the ISIL were killed in strikes targeting two buildings, two command centers and a vehicle of the group, according to security sources who asked to remain anonymous.

Resumption of flights by Turkish Air Forces in Syria came after consensus between Ankara and Moscow during a meeting of Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar in Russia on Nov. 1, sources told the Hürriyet Daily News.

The Free Syrian Army (FSA) offensive on Al-Bab, with the backing of the Turkish military, was slowed down after a Syrian warning about the use of its airspace on Oct. 26. Since then, neither Turkish nor other U.S.-led coalition planes have been able to operate in the region because of the Russian-made Syrian air defense.

“The Americans had concerns about agitating the Syrian regime or Russia. But they agreed to work on the planning, and hopefully they will give the air support we have requested within a week for Al-Bab,” another source earlier told Daily News after a meeting between. Gen. Akar and General Joseph Dunford, the Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff in Ankara on Nov. 6.

Akar has informed Dunford about his talks with the Russian Chief of Staff General Valery Gerasimov on Nov. 1 in Moscow, where the Turks assured the Russians that the Al-Bab operation would not threaten the outskirts of Aleppo and would be limited to taking the town and other areas around it from ISIL.

The Turkish Air Forces launched their last airstrike in Syria on Oct. 22, targeting ISIL positions. Since then, Turkey had not launched further strikes as Syria’s Russian-made air defense system was activated to cover the region under the Euphrates Shield operation.

Is the Beretta A3 Ready to Be the Military's Next Sidearm?
[Shooters Log] The military is making noises concerning a new sidearm. There is some controversy. Handguns, for whatever reason, seem to come with more emotional attachment and a sense of history than the rifle. I believe, that as a close quarters combat pistol, the Beretta 92 is lacking the most important attribute a sidearm should have and that is wound potential.

There is junk science in the world, and I choose to ignore it--as will most professional soldiers and peace officers.

Beretta A3 with ammunition box pistol case
The Beretta A3 is the latest in a long line of 9mm Beretta military handguns.

There is much to be said for the military simply ordering the pistols they need without going through a cumbersome trial. Congressional oversight is all well and good, after all, it is our tax money (As if congress has a good record for spending our money). The pistol should be vetted in an exhaustive trail but that isn’t that difficult. All it takes is time, personnel, and ammunition. The Beretta A3 isn’t a new pistol but a modified Beretta M9/M92. Senator John McCain felt that the Army should choose the caliber first. From his report:

"The Army plans to conduct ’an open caliber competition,’ which means the choice of caliber is left up to the discretion of industry. But the caliber of the cartridge and the type of bullet it launches is arguably the most important performance component of the handgun," the report states.

Army officers have made comments such as ’just buy a bunch of Glock 19 9mm pistols’, a reasonable trend. There are certain requirements in the Army circular for the MHS pistol (Army Modular Handgun System) that cannot be met by many pistols but which may be met by the Beretta A3. The A3 is an updated Beretta 92. That isn’t a bad thing as the Beretta’s primary advantage is reliability. It is accurate enough for any foreseeable handgun task.
Con't.

#1  9mm is a useless piece of crap wouldn't stop a small cat much less an angry person with a knife or gun.

You want a pistol that ends arguments...and due to the stress of close combat a weapon that doesn't require a crack shot.

The .45 ACP will stop most anything on two legs and you can hit them anywhere and the argument is over...even if they are wearing a bulletproof vest the punch will break ribs and knock the wind out of them

I don't understand why our ordinance geniuses can't buy a weapon that kills people effectively.

It was adopted to stop a four legged creature, in the US cavalry early in the 20th Century. So, if it can drop a horse, it can drop a human (or a drug crazed Moro) is just another plus in its factor.

#6  .45 ACP is more difficult to shoot by some segments of our 'gender neutral' armed forces.

Heavier weapon and a bit more of a kick.

Again, we'll force everyone to the lowest denominator.

Almost went with the CZ P-09, but it was a bit too heavy for her during multiple round firing. Still a great pistol, though.

Not quite as bad as your 'hand cannon', but still more of a shoot-look-shoot type. Just shooting for quick fire (squeeze, squeeze, squeeze) should only be done by a very well trained individual otherwise the spread is only good at close hand to hand range (which, by the way, is when you need a .45).

U.S. announces final rule enforcing N. Korea's blacklisting as 'primary money laundering concern'
Good golly, what on earth took so long?
The U.S. Treasury Department announced a set of regulations enforcing its blacklisting of North Korea earlier this year as a "primary money laundering concern" aimed at cutting off the communist regime from the international financial system.

The regulations, known as the "final rule," prohibit U.S. financial institutions from opening or maintaining correspondent accounts for North Korean banks and also require U.S. financial institutions to apply additional due diligence measures in order to prevent North Korean financial institutions from gaining improper indirect access to U.S. correspondent accounts.

The rule was proposed in June when the Treasury designated the North as a "primary money laundering concern" engaged in illicit conduct, including using state-controlled financial institutions and front companies to engage in proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles and to evade international sanctions.

Adam J. Szubin, acting under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence Adam J. Szubin, acting under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence

"North Korea continues to use front companies and agents to conduct illicit financial transactions — some of which support the proliferation of WMD and the development of ballistic missiles — and evade international sanctions," said Adam J. Szubin, acting under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, said in a statement.

"Such funds have no place in any reputable financial system," he said.

Though the North's financial institutions do not maintain correspondent accounts with U.S. financial institutions, the department said the North's government continues to use state-controlled financial institutions and front companies to "surreptitiously conduct illicit international financial transactions."

The measure is similar to the 2005 blacklisting of Banco Delta Asia (BDA), a bank in Macau.

The Treasury's designation of the bank as a primary money laundering concern not only froze North Korean money in the bank but also scared away other financial institutions from dealing with Pyongyang for fear they would also be blacklisted.

The measure has been considered the most effective U.S. sanction on the North yet.

But the restriction was later lifted as nuclear negotiations with Pyongyang made progress.

Experts say that the latest designation could have a greater impact than the BDA sanctions because it designated the North as a whole as a money laundering concern, not just one bank as in the BDA case.

ISIS official knocks over bank in Raqqa
[ARA News] Qamishli – The Islamic State’s (ISIS) financial officer in Syria’s northeastern Raqqa city has deserted the group’s ranks after robbing a main bank, local sources reported on Saturday.

Abu Okruma al-Anbari, an Iraqi jihadi responsible for the ISIS financial affairs in central Raqqa, has reportedly fled the ISIS’ de facto capital with his family earlier on Thursday.

“Al-Anbari robbed the main Islamic Bank in Raqqa before escaping,” local media activist Taim Khalil told ARA News, citing an ISIS official.

“Sources in the bank confirmed that more than $3million were missing from the bank after al-Anbari evacuated his office and fled to an unknown destination,” Khalil reported.

Eyewitnesses reported a state of alert among ISIS militants in Raqqa downtown subsequent to al-Anbari’s escape.

“The incident was a new blow to ISIS, as the group already suffers from a financial crisis, especially after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) captured main border crossings on the Syrian-Turkish borderline, such as Manbij and Tel Abyad, preventing the group from selling crude oil at the blackmarket,” Syrian journalist Anas Halwani told ARA News.

“ISIS may soon be unable to fund its military operations in Raqqa, the group’s de facto capital in Syria,” Halwani said.

This comes as the US-backed SDF forces continued their progress against ISIS and captured major areas in northern Raqqa with the launch of the Euphrates Wrath Operation last Sunday.

Rangers kill Jundallah chief in Hub
QUETTA - Pakistan-based Jundallah Amir Arif alias Saqib was reportedly killed on Friday by Rangers.

The Rangers sources said their crews operating in Hub killed on Friday the amir of Pakistan-based Jundallah, an outlawed outfit Arif. Arif alias Saqib was mastermind of suicide explosions in Balochistan.

“He was amir of Jundallah group in Pakistan and was manipulating subversive activities jointly with Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and Islamic State (IS) in the country,” revealed the sources. A huge quantity of explosive materials along with arms was also recovered.

Apart from Pakistan, the Jundallah amir was also most wanted in Iran in scores of subversive activities, the sources said.

“Acting upon a tip off by intelligence agencies, Rangers’ anti-terrorist force Thursday night conducted an operation at a suspected militant hideout in the Hub area of Balochistan,” read a statement issued by a Rangers spokesperson, reported a private TV channel.

“During the exchange of fire, the Jundallah chief and nominated deputy chief of Tehreek-e-Taliban Sindh, Saqib alias Arif alias Anjum, was killed,” the statement added.

The Rangers spokesperson also revealed that the Jundallah chief along with members of Al-Qaeda, Jamaatul Ahrar and Islamic State was involved in several high-profile terror acts.

Some of them were allegedly involved in various terror activities, including an attack on the vehicle of the then Karachi Corps Commander Lt-Gen Ahsan Saleem, a suicide hit on Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Quetta, assassination of chief security officer of former president Asif Ali Zardari, Bilal Sheikh and attack on a church and members of minority communities.

The Rangers statement also claimed that the killed militant was planning major terror attacks on Rangers’ headquarters and the SSU headquarters in Karachi.

The paramilitary force also recovered explosives from the suspect’s house, which was being used as a factory for preparing improvised explosive devices (IEDs), claimed the spokesperson.

The Rangers also claimed to have recovered huge quantity of automatic weapons, ammunition and hand grenades.

30 52 killed, 70 102 injured in Pak shrine blast
Update at the rollover:
At least 52 killed, 102 injured in blast at Khuzdar shrine
Note: This article is being updated as information comes in, so check back during the day.
[Dawn] The militant Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the attack, reported Reuters.
Original article:

on Saturday evening.

Tehsildar Javed Iqbal said: "Some 30 people have been killed and 70 injured in the blast including women and kiddies," reports DawnNews.

The report said no group has yet taken responsibility of the attack.

Security forces have reached the spot of the incident while emergency services are facing difficulty in reaching the site of the incident due to its remote location and poor communication infrastructure.

The shrine is also located in hilly terrain, further adding to the difficulties being faced by emergency services.

Electricity services were also disrupted following the kaboom, hampering rescue efforts further. Electric power to the shrine is supplied with generators, DawnNews reported.

"People who are critically injured in the blast will be transported to Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
," said Balochistan Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti.

No major hospital is located near the shrine, and the injured will be shifted to Karachi for further treatment. Reportedly the injured are being shifted in private vehicles.

"There are no helicopters available with the provincial government to evacuate the maimed," said Anwar Kakar, a spokesperson for the Balochistan government.

An emergency has also been declared in all hospitals of Khuzdar district.

While answering a question regarding security measures in Balochistan, Bugti said: "If there is security lapse on part of the state, those responsible will be held accountable".

The shrine is frequented by a large number of devotees on Friday, and is visited by people from across the country. Iranian nationals also frequent the shrine.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has expressed his grief over the killing of innocents and condemned the blast at the shrine of Shah Norani.

In October, heavily-armed faceless myrmidons wearing boom jackets stormed a police academy in Quetta, killing at least 61 people and wounding at least 117.

Three gunnies burst into the sprawling academy, targeting sleeping quarters home to some 700 recruits, and sent terrified young men aged between 15 and 25 fleeing.

Communication intercepts showed the attack was carried out by al-Alimi faction of the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi

LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. In August, a jacket wallah targeted the emergency services ward at Quetta’s Civil Hospital killing at least 70 people and leaving scores injured, majority of those killed were lawyers.

Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) splinter group, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), had grabbed credit for the bombing which occurred at the gates of the building housing the emergency ward.

Balochistan has been experiencing incidents of violence and assassination'>assassinations for over a decade. More than 1,400 incidents targeting the minority Shia and Hazara community have taken place in the province during the past 15 years.

The largest province of the country by area, is home to a low-level insurgency by ethnic Baloch separatists. Al Qaeda-linked and sectarian faceless myrmidons also operate in the region. The province shares borders with Afghanistan and Iran.

Polish army to teach women self-defence for free
The Polish defence ministry is launching free nationwide classes for women to learn unarmed combat.
By George this is a brilliant idea. I wonder if we could do it here. Perhaps ROTC programs could do this on campuses. National Guard units could do this from their stations and armories. Combine this with a little PR on what our military does and who our outstanding men and women are in the services.
The classes will start at 30 military facilities, running from 19 November until 3 June. Polish army instructors will provide the training. The techniques will include defensive postures, how to break holds, and guards against kicks, strangulation and assaults with a weapon.

Some Poles see the initiative more as a way for the army to promote its image.

The ministry says it is the first time the military has offered such a nationwide programme. It is open to all Polish women aged 18 or above who are in good health.

A former special forces commander, Roman Polko, told the Dziennik Polski news website that it was not the army's job to teach citizens unarmed combat. He said it could be a way to spot potential recruits for the armed forces. But learning aikido or jujitsu moves "won't win a war," he said.

Another critic, Krakow journalist Marcin Ogdowski, said the lessons "have a propaganda dimension". He said women's self-defence classes should be run by the police, rather than the military.

Launching the programme, Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz said the aim was to teach women "basic fighting techniques and, above all, improve overall physical fitness". "We invite the ladies, there are still places - there are no age limits," he said.

Participants must have their own medical insurance and a letter freeing the defence ministry from any injury claims.

Trump picking transition team as protests continue
[Dhaka Tribune] President-elect Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
began laying the groundwork on Friday to take office on January 20, 2017, gathering the most loyal advisers from his bad boy campaign and three of his children to plot his transition strategy as Protesters across the US are gearing up for weekend demonstrations over the election of Donald Trump.

The announcement was one of several surprises, as Trump shook up his transition team by putting running mate Mike Pence in charge and named a cohort of Washington insiders ‐ and three of his children ‐ to help with the process of choosing a new cabinet.

The reshuffle came as anti-Trump protesters spilled onto the streets for a third straight night, with the Republican facing mounting calls to reassure Americans who fear a xenophobic crackdown under his authority.

Throngs of people ‐ among them families and children ‐ rallied late Friday in New York’s Washington Square carrying banners reading "Peace and Love" and "Your wall can’t stand in our way." Local media estimated a turnout of some 4,000 protesters.

Early Saturday, Portland police said on Twitter that they were investigating a report of a shooting and a possible injury on a Willamette River bridge that protesters were heading toward. They asked the public to leave the area. It wasn’t immediately clear if the report had anything to do with the protests.

In Portland, Oregon, a demonstrator was shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries after what police believe was a confrontation. The suspect then fled the area.

And more than 1,000 people gathered in Miami, with weekend protests planned in a number of other cities.

The 70-year-old incoming president has a mammoth task of fleshing out his cabinet, as well as steering the complex transition of power, and announced on Friday he was elevating Vice President-elect Pence to lead the process.

Trump included three of his children and his son-in-law Jared Kushner on the transition team ‐ a move likely to raise eyebrows, since the tycoon earlier announced that should he win he would place his vast business interests into a blind trust operated by Donald Trump Jr, Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump.

to build momentum ahead of the 2015 Gay Paree Agreement on climate change. The partnership of the two biggest greenhouse gas emitters helped get nearly 200 countries to support the pact at the historic meet in La Belle France’s capital.

By contrast, Trump has called global warming a hoax created by China to give it an economic advantage and said he plans to remove the United States from the historic climate agreement, as well as reverse many of Obama’s measures to combat climate change.

He has appointed noted climate change sceptic Myron Ebell to help lead transition planning for the Environmental Protection Agency, which has crafted the administration’s major environmental regulations such as the Clean Power Plan and efficiency standards for cars and trucks.

Iraq
Civilians flee fighting in Mosul
MOSUL/BAGHDAD: Elite Iraqi forces were engaged in “intense” fighting with rebels in eastern Mosul on Saturday, an officer said, as civilians gathered on the city’s outskirts to flee.

The special forces backed by US and Iraqi air power took control of two districts of eastern Mosul after heavy fighting in which they destroyed nine cars deployed by ISIS as suicide bombs, the military said.

The military statement said the Counter Terrorism Service took control of the districts of Al-Qadisiya Al-Thania, which it moved into on Friday, and adjacent Al-Arbajiya. But there are still weeks if not months of fighting ahead in the battle to recapture the last ISIS-held Iraqi city, and aid workers have warned that displacement may spike as Iraqi troops push deeper into Mosul.

“The fighting is intense this morning. We’re trying to fortify our positions in Arbajiyah before continuing our attack into Al-Bakr,” said Staff Lt. Col. Muntadhar Salem of CTS, referring to two Mosul areas. Salem later clarified that the aim was to surround Al-Bakr but not to assault it for now.

Staff Lt. Col. Ali Fadhel also confirmed that objective, saying: “We... are advancing toward Al-Bakr so that we can surround it.”

“There were three car bombs coming out from Al-Bakr toward our positions that we spotted with our drone and hit with our tanks,” Salem said.

The militants are also using drones for observation, one of which was shot down by CTS forces, Fadhel said.

As fighting raged deeper in the city, civilians, some of them carrying white flags, walked toward its outskirts, gathering near an Iraqi military truck that would take them out of the city to safety. More than 49,000 people have been displaced since the Mosul operation began, the International Organization for Migration said on Saturday. Aid workers have said that a million or more people could be displaced by the battle for Mosul, meaning that the worst may still be ahead.

IS overran large areas north and west of Baghdad in 2014, but Iraqi forces backed by US-led air strikes have since regained significant ground from the militants.

Infantry and armored division troops also advanced in a nearby neighborhood, destroying three rocket launchers and killing 30 militants, it said in a statement said.

Iraqi troops have been fighting for 10 days inside eastern Mosul, trying to expand their small foothold in the city which ISIS has controlled since mid-2014, when its leader declared a caliphate in parts of Iraq and neighboring Syria.

The nearly four-week campaign to drive ISIS out of the biggest city under its control in either country has brought together an alliance of 100,000 Iraqi fighters, also backed by thousands of Western personnel on the ground. They have faced fierce resistance from a few thousand militants who have deployed hundreds of suicide car bombers and waves of attacks by snipers, assault fighters and rocket teams.

ISIS has also used a network of tunnels around the city and merged into the civilian population of 1.5 million people still living there, helping it launch surprise raids and ambushes on the troops.

Further south, but still on the eastern fringes, troops from the First Infantry and Ninth Armored divisions attacked the militants in the Salam neighborhood.

Security forces and army troops are also advancing on southern and northern fronts close to the city, aiming to open new fronts inside Mosul to put further pressure on the ultra-hard-line militants.

The attacking forces include Iraqi army troops and special forces and federal police units. Outside the city, Kurdish peshmerga forces are holding territory to the northeast and mainly Shiite paramilitary forces are deployed to the west.

ISIS forces some Mosul residents to attend mosques

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Iraqi media outlets reported on Friday, that the Islamic State group forced the residents to attend prayer at the old mosques of Mosul, while pointed out that ISIS is trying to use the prayer to recruit new members and collect donations.

Alsumaria News stated, “The ISIS called on the residents of Mosul, through its detachments, to attend the obligatory Friday prayer in the mosques for the first time since the start of liberation battles.”

“ISIS is trying to use the Friday prayer to recruit new members to fill the large gap in its human resources resulted from human losses inflicted on it, as well as collecting donations to face the financial crisis suffered by the group after losing its key funds,” Alsumaria added.

Noteworthy, allies and neighborhoods of old Mosul are considered as key strongholds of the Islamic State in the recent time.

ISIS executes 60 in Mosul

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – The United Nations announced on Friday, that the self-proclaimed Islamic State executed 60 residents of the city of Mosul three days ago and hung their bodies on electricity poles, on charges of treason and conspiracy, and added that the group started to recruit youths as suicide bombers in the war against security forces.

The United Nations revealed that last Tuesday, ISIS terrorist gangs executed 40 civilians in Mosul, on charges of treason and conspiracy, then hung their bodies on electricity poles in the city, as well as killing another 20 civilians by firing squad for sharing information with security forces.

The Islamic State started to recruit youths and teens as suicide bombers in the streets of Mosul, the UN added.

The UN also declared that the ISIS announced in 6 November 2016, executing six of his fighters for fleeing battles in Mosul toward Kokjli, pointing out that security forces also discovered a mass grave containing 100 bodies in Hamam al-Alil.

The extremist group is also stacking huge quantities of ammonia and Sulphur in the city of Mosul, and these quantities are expected to be used by the group as chemical weapons, the UN said.

ISIS destroys government buildings in Anah

(IraqiNews.com) Anbar – Mayor of Anah district in the province of Anbar, Saad Awad, announced on Saturday, that the Islamic State group detonated the buildings of the Mayor’s Office, Local Council, Court House and Civil Defense in the district.

Awad said in a press statement, “ISIS terrorist gangs detonated the buildings of the Mayor’s Office, Local Council, Court House and Civil Defense in the city of Anah, using improvised explosive devices.”

“The extremist group also stole the power station in the city of Anah and transferred it outside the district,” Awad added.

The Islamic State captured the city of Anah in 2014, while security forces are now preparing, in coordination with tribes to liberate the city from the group’s control.

ISIS imposes curfew in Mosul

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – The self-proclaimed Islamic State group imposed a curfew in the city of Mosul, after the killing of a number of its senior leaders by a coalition air strike, in the eastern coast of the city, Alsumaria News reported on Saturday.

Alsumaria News stated, “The ISIS terrorist gangs also prevented the families from leaving their houses, and deployed its militants in the streets of the city,” Alsumaria added.

The city of Mosul has been under the control of the so-called ISIS since June 2014, and since then the group is imposing strict instructions and procedures.

The nearly four-week campaign to drive ISIS out of the biggest city under its control in either country has brought together an alliance of 100,000 Iraqi fighters, also backed by thousands of Western personnel on the ground.

They have faced fierce resistance from a few thousand murderous Moslems who have deployed hundreds of suicide boom-mobileers and waves of attacks by snipers, assault fighters and rocket teams.

ISIS has also used a network of tunnels around the city and merged into the civilian population of 1.5 million people still living there, helping it launch surprise raids and ambushes on the troops.

The military statement said the Counter Terrorism Service took control of the districts of al-Qadisiya al-Thania, which it moved into on Friday, and adjacent al-Arbajiya.

Further south, but still on the eastern fringes, troops from the First Infantry and Ninth Armored divisions attacked the jihadists in the Salam neighborhood.

Security forces and army troops are also advancing on southern and northern fronts close to the city, aiming to open new fronts inside Mosul to put further pressure on the ultra-hardline Islamists.

The attacking forces include Iraqi army troops and special forces and federal police units. Outside the city, Kurdish peshmerga forces are holding territory to the northeast and mainly Shiite paramilitary forces are deployed to the west.

They are supported by US-led air power, including jets and Apache helicopters, and Western military advisers who have accompanied Iraqi forces on the edge of Mosul.

The International Organization for Migration says so far 49,000 people have been displaced by the conflict, the most complex military operation in more than a decade of turmoil since the 2003 US invasion of Iraq toppled Saddam Hussein.

Paris attacks suspect ‘radicalized’ since arrest: Lawyer
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The main Gay Paree attacks suspect, Salah Abdeslam, has become even more radicalized since being imprisoned for his presumed role in the slaughter of 130 people a year ago, his former lawyer has said.

"He’s got a beard, he’s become a true fundamentalist whereas before he was a kid wearing Nike trainers," Belgian lawyer Sven Mary told Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant’s Saturday edition.

Belgian-born French national Abdeslam is believed to be the only bad boy survivor of the November 13 attacks in the French capital that Belgian authorities claim were orchestrated by the ISIS high command.

After four months on the run, the 27-year-old of Moroccan origin was jugged
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
in Brussels in March and subsequently transferred to La Belle France in April.

Prison conditions
Lawyer Mary said Abdeslam’s detention conditions at a prison in the Gay Pareeian suburb of Fleury-Merogis amounted to "psychological torture" and had contributed to his apparent radicalisation.

He is kept in solitary confinement and subjected to round-the-clock video surveillance.

Abdeslam is accused of having provided logistical support to the seven jihadists who died at the various scenes of the terror attacks: the Bataclan concert hall, the Stade de La Belle France national stadium and several bars and restaurants in central Gay Paree.

In July, his lawyers had attempted unsuccessfully to end the constant surveillance, but authorities had deemed the "exceptional character of terrorist acts" as justifying that "all precautions are taken".

Last month both Mary and another lawyer, Frank Berton, gave up defending Abdeslam over his refusal to answer Sherlocks’ questions since being transferred to La Belle France.

Mary said then that the lawyers felt they were doing nothing more than paying "social visits to the prison" and had decided to quit the defence.

Abdeslam’s brother Mohammed last month urged him to speak to French authorities but also said he felt Salah "is more radicalized now, rather than de-radicalized".

I'm a Muslim woman and an immigrant. I voted for Donald Trump
A lot is being said now about the "silent secret Trump supporters."

This is my confession — and explanation: I — a 51-year-old, a Muslim, an immigrant woman "of color" — am one of those silent voters for Donald Trump. And I'm not a "bigot," "racist," "chauvinist" or "white supremacist," as Trump voters are being called, nor part of some "whitelash."

In the winter of 2008, as a lifelong liberal and proud daughter of West Virginia, a state born on the correct side of history on slavery, I moved to historically conservative Virginia only because the state had helped elect Barack Obama as the first African-American president of the United States.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Kurd female group launches attack on ISIS near Sinjar
[ARA News] Erbil – The Shingal Women’s Units (YJS), a Kurdish all-female force in northern Iraq, said on Saturday they will launch an operation to ‘avenge Yezidi women’ and to save women that ISIS hold hostage.

“We have not forgotten Êzidî [Yezidi] women sold in markets of Mosul or burnt alive. We know that the people that ISIS holds as hostage are waiting for us to rescue them. We will not stop until we liberate our women and take revenge,” said the YJS –affiliated to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

According to local sources, the Shingal Resistance Units (YBS) –including the YJS– will soon start an operation to liberate the villages around Shingal district [also known as Sinjar] from Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants.

When ISIS jihadists attacked the Iraqi Yezidi communities in August 2014, they raped and forcibly married thousands of young women they captured in an orgy of violence. They also converted their female captures to their own brand of Sunni Islam and sold them in slave markets across their would-be Caliphate. ISIS is still holding a significant number of sex slaves, according to Belkis Wille, a senior researcher at Human Rights Watch.

The YBS is part of a coalition led by the Shia Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), which launched an anti-ISIS operation Tel Afar of northern Iraq in late October. According to the PMU, the Tel Afar operation constitutes a part of the battle for Mosul. The town of Tel Afar lies 50 kilometer from Sinjar, and the PMU group says they want to cut the road between Raqqa and Mosul and encircle Mosul in order to prevent ISIS from escaping the province.

It is possible that the YBS could also get involved in Tel Afar since ISIS holds many Yezidis captive in the Turkmen town.

The new Sinjar operation could lead to more tensions between Baghdad and Turkey.

Turkey opposes a presence of the PKK in Sinjar, and is against the Shia-led PMU units to march towards Shia-Sunni mixed Turkmen town of Tel Afar.

Both Turkey and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) fear the Shia militia might cooperate with the PKK to create a Shiite corridor towards Syria. But the PKK and the Shia PMU say the operations are to defeat ISIS and to help Yezidis, not to create corridors.

According to Gareth Stansfield, a British academic and expert on Kurds, Tel Afar represents a problem to the KDP. “While the Kurdish leaders are no friends of the Sunni insurgents, they are perhaps even more fearful of the presence of Shi’a militias so close to the Kurdistan Region’s borders,” Stansfield wrote for the Woodrow Wilson Center.

“Another problem for the KDP in particular is that the possible entry of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) into the conflict would constitute a clear and present danger that would have to be removed,” he said.

Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Isik said last Thursday that Turkey will not allow a PKK presence in Sinjar and also warned about the risk of involving elements ‘foreign to Mosul and Tel Afar’ in a reference to the PMU units. Last month, Turkey sent additional troops towards Silopi district on the border with Iraq.

US confirms four Americans killed in Afghanistan base blast
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Pentagon has confirmed that four Americans were killed in a blast at a base in Bagram, Afghanistan.

The Americans - two service members and two contractors - were killed at Bagram Airfield, the largest US military base in Afghanistan, early on Saturday.

No hard boy group has so far grabbed credit for the blast, which occurs as the Taliban steps up nationwide attacks before the onset of winter, when fighting usually ebbs.

"We can confirm that there was an kaboom at Bagram Airfield this morning just after 5:30 am (0100 GMT). There have been casualties," the military coalition said in a brief statement.

La Belle France condemned the attack and reiterated its support for those fighting terrorism in Afghanistan. "La Belle France reiterates its support for the American and Polish governments, whose citizens were hit in the attack," the Foreign Ministry said a statement.

The sources said that coalition warplanes targeted the boats after they arrived in the morning to the port coming from one of the Yemeni islands loaded with smuggled weapons for the militias.

"There are no UN humanitarian personnel today at the Al Hudaydah port ‐ which is the largest remaining port under Houthi militia control ‐ who can inspect and supervise distributing the much needed aid and medical supplies," Spokesman of the Arab coalition Maj. Gen. Ahmed Asseri said.

a Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) member who is believed to be involved in the murders of Jagriti Prakashani publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan and secular activist Niladri Chatterjee Niloy.

The arrest of outlawed Islamist murderous Moslem outfit member was made from Kamlapur Rail Station area in Dhaka early Saturday, says DB Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman.

A press briefing held at DMP media centre regarding this matter around 12noon, where DB Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten said arrested Khairul Islam alias Jamil alias Rifat alias Fahim alias Jisan participated in the murders of Dipan and Niloy.

During primary interrogation, Khairul, a member of ABT intelligence unit, pleaded his role in the killings, he added.

The commissioner termed Khairul a top leader of Ansar al-Islam, saying he joined ABT from 2013 and in the next year he met the outfit’s big brother Sayed Zia ul Haque, a sacked army major for his involvement in a failed coup in December, 2011.

The ABT man was assigned to collect information about Dipan and Niloy from January to August last year and he reported it to maj Zia who ordered his operational wing to execute the killings.

Abdul Baten continued: "Seeing CCTV footage, Khairul has identified four people involved in blogger and secular writer Avijit killing and we are analysing the information."
On September 26, Khairul met maj Zia alias Eshtiaq on the outskirts of Dhaka, he added.

Iraq
Iraq has never seen this kind of fighting in battles with ISIS
[WaPoo] Since pushing into Mosul a week ago, Iraqi commanders say their forces have been shaken by some of the most complex fighting they have ever encountered in battles against the Islamic State.

It is a bitter fight: street to street, house to house, with the presence of civilians slowing the advancing forces. Car bombs — the militants’ main weapon — speed out of garages and straight into advancing military convoys.

“If there were no civilians, we’d just burn it all,” said Maj. Gen. Sami al-Aridhi, a counterterrorism commander. He was forced to temporarily pause operations in his sector Monday because too many families were clogging the street. “I couldn’t bomb with artillery or tanks, or heavy weapons. I said, ‘We can’t do anything.’ ”
It begs a question: why are there over 1 million civilians "trapped" in Mosul? How did a couple ten thousand ISIS boys take the city in the first place, and how is it that they've controlled a million plus people? The civilians apparently "couldn't" escape? And now that the Iraqi Army v3.03 is coming to take the place, the civilians apparently "can't" slip away.

I appreciate the restraint the Iraqi Army is showing -- that more than anything demonstrates the American influence. But I have a suspicion that the civilians aren't as helpless as the media has made them out to be, and that they stayed in Mosul because, for the most part, they were okay with ISIS in charge.
It’s a long, hard slog to the Tigris River that carves through the center of Mosul — and then a whole new battle awaits on the other side. Commanders expressed confidence that they eventually will prevail, but they are less optimistic that they will meet Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s pledge to have the city under control by the end of the year.

Militants wait to move between fighting positions until people fill the streets, using their presence as protection from airstrikes.

“They always keep them with them,” Aridhi said. Other officers said the militants occasionally let a flood of people flee as a method of forcing a pause in the fight.

At their base on the outskirts of the city, Iraqi counterterrorism troops call in airstrikes where they can, radioing to report militant positions and suicide bombers. Two French advisers sit nearby watching surveillance feeds of the city’s streets.

The voice of a field commander crackled through the radio. “These civilians are making me tired,” he said. “They are coming from everywhere. We don’t know if they are fighters or civilians. They are carrying bags — we don’t know what’s inside.”

Col. Arkan Fadhil calls in airstrikes from the U.S.-led coalition, but they are less forthcoming than in previous battles because of the presence of families, and are used only to defend Iraqi forces rather than backing them when they attack.

“You’ve got less than 10 meters to engage, so you shoot and cross your fingers,” said Fadhil.

Low-ranking officers in the field made some mistakes, he said, such as pushing forward without waiting for other units or without properly clearing and securing areas, later getting ambushed and becoming surrounded and trapped. Since the pitched battles of Nov. 4, the counterterrorism troops have adjusted their pace.
American soldiers in World War Two learned these hard lessons in Aachen and Manila...
The Iraqi military does not release casualty numbers, but the losses in the Nov. 4 battle appear to have been particularly heavy.

As the battle drags on, thousands of civilians trapped inside Mosul are risking their lives to escape, making their way across the battlefield in small groups carrying white flags. They describe the defenses that the Islamic State has built in its neighborhoods — tunnels, concrete barriers, car bombs.

“They are in the apartments,” said one 64-year-old woman as she reached the security forces. “They aren’t allowing anyone to leave. They have car bombs there.”

“In the apartments and where else?” asked an Iraqi counterterrorism officer as the woman was handed water and food.

“All of Mosul,” she replied.

Africa Subsaharan
Hundreds of Boko Haram fighters surrender in Chad: sources
[REUTERS] Hundreds of Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
fighters and their families have surrendered in Chad in the past month, security and U.N. sources said, in a sign the military campaign against them is making headway.

Boko Haram, which has killed and kidnapped thousands of people, had seized an area approximately the size of Belgium in northeastern Nigeria by last year but has since lost significant ground amid growing regional military pressure.

Analyst and security sources think the fighters are probably recent recruits that Boko Haram has struggled to retain as it has ceded territory. Defections of Boko Haram fighters have been reported in Nigeria but are not known to have previously occurred on such a large scale.

"They surrendered to our troops on the front line in Lake Chad," said Colonel Mohammad Dole, Chief Military Public Information Officer for the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) headquartered in Chad's capital N'Djamena.

"The surrenders are taking place because of the firepower of our operations. The groups, many of them armed, have been arriving since September and their number keeps increasing," he said.

Some 240 fighters, most off whom are Chadian, are now being held in detention along with their families, Dole said.

The MNJTF, with troops from Chad, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
and Benin and intelligence, training and logistical support from the United States, launched a regional operation in July against the group, which has pledged allegiance to Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
It has since continued patrols around the waterways of Lake Chad - one of the world's poorest regions whose villages were last year regularly struck by fighters, sometimes aboard canoes.

Around 2.6 million people have been displaced in the Lake Chad Basin where Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon meet.

Signs that regional armies are wresting back control of the Chadian part of the lake is significant since it had been a recruitment hub, even if the group never sought to conquer territory there, said Ryan Cummings, director of consultancy Signal Risk.

"Their presence in Chad was more for recruitment and for resources. Its strikes in the country were punitive," he said, referring to Dire Revenge attacks on regional military heavyweight Chad, which has supplied 3,000 troops for the MNJTF.

India-Pakistan
March to main Srinagar mosque foiled
[DAWN] Indian authorities disallowed weekly prayers at Srinagar’s historical Jamia Masjid for the 18th consecutive week on Friday by imposing strict restrictions in various parts of the city, reports said.

A call for a march to the grand mosque, located in Nowhatta area in downtown Srinagar, had been given by the resistance leaders, Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik
...chairman of one of the two factions of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front. JKLF is a Kashmiri nationalist organization founded in Birmingham, UK in 1977. Branches weren't actually established in Kashmir for another ten years. It has the usual demands for separation of J&K from secular India so it can become an independent Islamic rathole. It seems to have no interest in Pak Kashmir breaking away to join it. In 1994 Malik renounced violence after he was released from jail and from that point he and his organization pursued peaceful means to impose their will on the region...
, to mark the Youm-e-Istaqlal.

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
the authorities imposed curfew and other restrictions in Srinagar and other towns to stop people from marching to the mosque. They also sealed the mosque, disallowing people to offer Friday prayers there.

At least 10 youths suffered injuries at the hands of security personnel across the India-held Valley.

According to residents of Nowhatta, nobody was allowed to proceed to the historical mosque, which was built by Sultan Sikandar, the father of Zainul Aabideen (popularly known as Budshah), between 1389 and 1420.

Continuous siege of the mosque since July 8 has evoked widespread condemnation from various quarters.

The Mirwaiz, who was sent to his room on Thursday, tried to defy the curbs and march towards the mosque, where he used to deliver sermons, but was whisked away by police.

Talking to news hounds outside his Nigeen residence before his detention, the Mirwaiz said the anti-Moslem regime had once again barred Moslems from offering Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid and other main mosques across held Kashmire.

Data Driven Nonsense
The more I read Z-man, it seems the better I like him
When I was a young man starting out in the world, I was once given an assignment for the marketing people. The job was to gather up and detail the costs of various marketing programs. For some reason they did not track these things in the accounting system. That meant I had to rummage through filing cabinets pulling out invoices and then tabulating the results in a spreadsheet. My guess is I was given the task mostly because I was the only guy who could use Lotus 1-2-3.

I gathered up all the data for the periods in question and put together a report. Out of curiosity, and to be a suck up, I created s chart that showed the impact of various marketing efforts on sales. I even factored in things like the number of peak sales days in a month and adjusted the results to reflect these variances. What jumped out to me was that marketing did nothing for sales. I then expanded the data range to include previous years and it was more obvious. Our marketing was a waste of money.

I was young, but I was not an idiot so I gave the VP of marketing the numbers without my analysis. He then used them in his presentation, in which he claimed to be the key to the company’s success. I sat watching it waiting for someone to point out that he was full of baloney, but no one did. What I realized was everyone believed in these types of marketing schemes. They had to work because everyone did them. The VP of marketing liked his job so he told everyone what they wanted to hear.

The point of this walk down memory lane is that people have been using data to lie to one another long before we had cheap database software and Chinese quants cranking out reports. My bet is the first modern humans to migrate out of Africa had a meeting where Grog held up a skin, with marks on it, that he claimed was proof that slow food and fast women were just over the horizon. Data analysis is often just another form of magic that we use to grease the wheels of life.

This always comes to mind when I hear political types talk about their data operations. Reince Priebus is running around saying it was the GOP data operations that got the Trump vote out on Tuesday. He was on the radio claiming that his team “knew what people ate for lunch, when they went to work and how they voted in the past” so they could target these voters and get them to the polls. He made it sound like they had studied all of us since birth so they could maximize their vote.

This is nonsense. Trump had none of this stuff in the primary and he poleaxed everyone in his way. His “ground game” was to go on TV and radio and be interesting. Then he went on Twitter to give reporters something to ask him. In the general, he preferred the old fashioned whistle stop tour. Instead of a train, he flew around on his plane and did stadium shows near airports. His campaign was lean and mean, avoiding the trap of hiring an army of experts. Trump was outspent something close to 5-to-1 when including outside groups.
Conclusion at the link
I did listen to Trump's speeches. Unlike the usual case with politicians, I enjoyed doing it. He could call people names and express things in a politically incorrect manner. The most important thing he did, each and every speech, was tell his audience that they were "amazing." Contrast that with confining half the country to a "Basket of Deplorables." His attacks were always against his opponents, not against their supporters.
Yup. The Donald did another thing that was very very smart in his speeches: he'd tell you that what he was going to do was going to benefit you personally. "You're going to love this." "This is going to make America great." "You're going to do better." And so on. He was able to connect you in the audience to these otherwise abstract things about jobs, defense, environment, immigration, and so on. That personal connection is surprisingly hard to do in a stemwinder and he was brilliant at it.

She went all in on rejecting Trump and now she is out of a job. The politicians that listened to their party leaders and distanced themselves from Trump were all punished at the polls.

Ayotte won more votes than Trump, as did most GOP members of Congress. Fort Bend, TX, flipped from GOP in 2012 to Democrat in 2016. Trump won in 2016 with the right message for the Rust Belt states. Uncle Sam as a super-sized Switzerland via perhaps the abrogation of existing defense treaties and an end to new free trade pacts. Equally, Hillary lost the Rust Belt states despite trying to appeal to the black vote by showing up with the parents of dead thugs and backing BLM. She showed, mainly, that only Obama has the charisma / pigmentation to get an out-sized black voter turnout.

#6  The bankruptcy of Peabody Energy, the biggest coal company in the US, may have been the last straw for some coal states. Trump won by over 40 points in WV, a state Carter won in 1980, and Reagan won by a few points in 84. Romney had a 27 point margin. There's also the emergence of white identity politics in certain regions in response to the perceived rise of the same among other ethnic/racial groups, fanned on by Democratic strategists looking to lock up vote blocs in opposition to the GOP. The Democratic party is identified as the black (or at least anti-white) party in much of the South, which is why they tend to be GOP-dominated in spite of some of the largest (in % terms) black minorities in the nation. Trump's Rust Belt victories might simply be the beginnings of a similar movement towards white bloc voting for the GOP in that region. If that occurs, the Democrats might be in trouble. And that's not even counting the odds of potential contagion in the direction of lily-white New England and the rest of the mid-Atlantic states.

Afghanistan
Hekmatyar asks Donald Trump to withdraw US forces from Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The leader of Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
has called on the newly-elected US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
to withdraw US forces from Afghanistan and let the Afghan people resolve the issue internally.

In a letter issued by Hekmatyar following the victory of Trump in presidential election, Hekmatyar said a free and fair election should be organized so that the Afghan people can elect their leader.

Hekmatyar further added that the presence of the US forces and operations conducted by them lead to civilian casualties in the country.

He specifically pointed towards the recent operation in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan where over 30 non-combatants were killed.

The Afghan government signed a peace agreement with Hezb-e-Islami late in the month of September following months of continuous negotiations.

The leader of Hezb-e-Islami had originally demanded the withdrawal of the US forces from the country before he sign the peace agreement with the Afghan government.

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
he later waivered his condition for the withdrawal of the US forces from Afghanistan.

In the meantime, the US Ambassador to Afghanistan Michael McKinley said last week that presidential election in United States will not affect the policies of Washington in Afghanistan and the bilateral pacts available between the two countries.

"Today I was asked many times what the impacts of these elections would be on US-Afghanistan relations and my answer is always the same, America’s long term commitment to our partnership with Afghanistan was renewed this year in Warsaw and Brussels. The US Afghan relationship will remain strong and close because it is based not anyone election, leader or party on our common interests, our people to people ties, our shared values that so deeply rooted," Ambassador McKinely said.

War of Attrition in Sirte Delays Final Assault on ISIS
[Asharq Al-Awsat] Tripoli-After a swift initial thrust into Sirte, ISIS’ bastion in Libya, six months on unity government forces still face dogged resistance from jihadist holdouts cornered in the Mediterranean city of Sirte.

“The final assault is being held up… mainly due to the fact that it will result in very intense street fighting and Daesh (ISIS) is determined to defend its positions right down to the last square meter,” Rida Issa, spokesman for the pro-Government of National Accord (GNA) forces, said.

Issa said loyalist forces were taking a step-by-step approach to the recapture of Sirte to limit casualties, not only in their own ranks but also among civilians “who Daesh (ISIS) are using as human shields” and whose numbers are unknown.

Forces loyal to the GNA announced the launch of the battle for Sirte, 450 kilometers east of Tripoli, on May 12.

Within weeks, GNA forces recaptured large chunks of the coastal city that ISIS jihadists had seized in June 2015 as a staging post for an expansion into North Africa.

But they have failed to dislodge the last pockets of ISIS fighters, holed up in the fiercely-defended district of Al-Giza Al-Bahriya, in a costly battle that has left at least 667 dead and 3,000 wounded in GNA ranks.

As for ISIS, the jihadists do not disclose their casualties but Issa gave an estimate of between 1,800 and 2,000 dead.

He said GNA troops could hear “the cries of civilians every time a strike is carried out” but he did not know their number, only that ISIS had entrapped them.

With the jihadists now encircled in an area of less than one square kilometer, “it is unclear what the impact of (further U.S.) air strikes (against ISIS) would be”, said Mattia Toaldo, a Libya expert with the European Council on Foreign Relations.

“The battle has taken longer than expected for a number of reasons: first they have encountered more resistance than expected… they suffered more casualties and eventually started to feel war fatigue,” he said.

“Most importantly, in the very last stages it has become clear that ISIS holds several hostages, which makes attacking the last buildings they control more tricky.”

ISIS’ ouster from Sirte would deal a heavy blow to the jihadists, who have been left reeling since the start of the year by a string of military defeats in Syria and Iraq.

Those jihadists left in Sirte appear determined to fight to the death rather than be taken prisoner, often carrying out car-bomb attacks wherever pro-GNA forces are gathered in numbers.

“This is not an easy battle… because we are fighting against an armed radical ideology in which death is an aspiration. We very soon realized the complexity of this battle,” said Issa.

“Such an enemy can only be wiped out once all its fighters are killed. And that’s what we are doing,” he added.

Iraq
Baghdad proposes Ankara handover of Bashiqa camp to Iraq
Baghdad has suggested that Turkey hand over control of the Bashiqa military camp in Mosul to Iraq’s central government, rejecting Turkey’s proposal to run the camp under the auspices of the coalition forces fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

The Iraqi government revised a draft proposal agreement on the status of Bashiqa, to which Turkish troops were deployed in order to train local fighters against ISIL, submitting the new version to the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Nov. 7, Iraqi Ambassador in Ankara Dr. Hisham al-Alawi said, adding that Baghdad was now waiting for Turkey’s response.

Al-Alawi said in the new draft, “the two sides confirm each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as stability with a commitment to enhance security cooperation and counter terrorism.”

Iraq’s new draft agreement also states that two sides confirmed that the Bashiqa camp is an Iraqi camp, that Iraq must exercise its sovereignty over the camp and that it must be responsible for the administration of the camp,” al-Alawi said Nov. 11 at a panel about Ninovah operation. “This is slightly different from the initial proposal made by the Turkish delegation.”

A Turkish delegation visited Baghdad in October and proposed a five-point draft agreement including running the military camp under the auspices of the coalition forces.

“When it comes to joint forces, details will be discussed agreed with relative authorities and countries,” he said, elaborating on the training of fighters in the camp in joint efforts with coalition forces against ISIL.

“The Iraqi government is willing to benefit from an offer made by the Turkish government to provide trainers, advisers and support in terms of medical aid and humanitarian aid, provided that [the issue of the] Bashiqa camp is resolved in a way that is acceptable to Iraq,” the ambassador stated.

Turkey assured Baghdad that Ankara would withdraw Turkish troops from the region when security returns to northern Iraq, he noted.

Al-Alawi said he was optimistic of a mutually acceptable solution on Turkish deployment in northern Iraq and stressed that an agreement sooner would be better.

The ambassador also stressed that Baghdad was against the presence of outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) members in the Sinjar region, as it rejects any foreign groups on Iraqi territory as per the country’s constitution.

“The PKK presence in northern Iraq, in Sinjar, happened without permission of the Iraqi government. When it comes to a possible contribution to operations in Sinjar, the Iraqi government see no role for the PKK in the Ninovah or Mosul operation,” he said.

But the ambassador also complained about a deal between the Turkish government and the PKK as part of a peace process that suggested the group would decamp to Iraqi territory.

“In 2013, when the Turkish government had a deal with the PKK leaders, facilitated by the Kurdish Regional Government, we were not happy with the encouragement that PKK members would go to Iraqi territory. The Iraqi central government was not involved in that particular agreement,” he stated.

The ambassador said he asked the Turkish Foreign Ministry to clarify claims by Turkish politicians that the Iraqi government had lent support to the PKK.

Turkish officials told him that those reports did not suggest that Baghdad was “actively supporting PKK members, but there is a fact that they were referring to local citizens, Yazidis who are living in Sinjar,” al-Alawi said.

“They joined popular mobilization units. Because there are Peshmerga and some PKK members present in Sinjar, there was some cooperation between them. Local Iraqi citizens became part of the local fighters and groups,” he added.

India-Pakistan
India's currency purge leaves millions broke
[Deutsche Welle} Public anger has been rising as Indian banks struggle to dispense cash after the government withdrew large-denomination bills. Nearly half of India's 202,000 ATMs were shut and those that worked quickly ran out of cash.

The government stunned the country on Tuesday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in a televised address that the high-denomination bills would be withdrawn as part of a blitz on "black money" and fake notes.

Modi's move was aimed at shrinking the "black economy," the term widely used to describe transactions that take place outside formal channels and which could be as high as 20 percent of gross domestic product, according to investment firm Ambit.

The government has tried to reassure citizens that only tax evaders will suffer. But as these bills made up more than 80 percent of the currency in circulation, millions have been left without cash and large parts of the cash-driven economy have ground to a halt. Much of India's rural economy is powered by cash transactions, with few people having bank accounts or operating one even if they do.

Some are angry at the prime minister - currently on an official visit to Japan - for leaving the country during the turmoil. "He is taking bullet-train rides in Japan and here you have old people knocking on bank doors for cash," Prabhat Kumar, a college student who said he had spent six hours waiting in line, told the Reuters news agency. "He has made a terrible mistake."

The government has asked people to redeem the old 500 and 1,000 rupees notes by December 30. The central bank said there was enough cash available with banks and that it had made arrangements to deliver the new banknotes to branches across the country.

Already many are skeptical that the plan will do much good.

"Will it put an end to black money? Hardly. People with large amounts of black money will convert it into gold and foreign currency," the newspaper "Economic Times" said in an editorial earlier this week.

Related: Chaos at Indian banks continues after ATMs reopen

The BBC visited many ATMs of big banks in Delhi and Mumbai but found them either shut or not dispensing cash. ATMs opened at midnight after being shut for 48 hours and hundreds queued up early morning to make withdrawals.

The surprise government move is aimed at tackling corruption and tax evasion. But many low-income Indians, traders and ordinary savers who rely on the cash economy have been badly hit.

There are limits on cash withdrawals from ATMs and banks.

Thousands of panicked Indians have been flocking to banks since they reopened on Thursday as the two notes accounted for about 85% of the cash in circulation. Banks have extended working hours and deployed additional staff to deal with the rush. Some bank officials said they had also brought in extra cash to deal with the situation.

Afghanistan
Iran supports Afghan Taliban to counter ISIS threats: Nabil
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs group in Afghanistan is being supported by Iran as the country aims to counter the growth of ISIS terrorist group reach in the country, the former Afghan intelligence chief Rahmatullah Nabil has said.

In an exclusive interview with VOA’s Afghanistan service, Nabil said the group is receiving financial and equipment support from Iran, particularly in the western parts of the country.

Nabil further added that Russia’s interest towards Afghanistan has also grown as the violence has spread in northern parts of the country since 2014.

According to Nabil, the intelligence cooperation between China and Afghanistan has increased during the recent years.

The former Afghan intelligence chief said the Taliban group continues to receive support from Pakistain and the Red Brigade of the Taliban group continues to its insurgency with modern equipment in their custody.

Nabil said the group’s Red Brigade is mainly fighting in western and southern parts of the country, including Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
, Farah, and Uruzgan provinces.

The remarks by Nabil came as the Afghan officials have long been criticizing Pakistain for supporting the Afghan Lion of Islam groups, specifically the Taliban and Haqqani terrorist network by providing them safe havens in its soil.

Iran has also been occasionally accused of providing equipment to the Afghan Lion of Islam groups in the country.

Turkish artillery hits Kurd held town in Aleppo
[ARA News] Afrin – Turkey’s military forces launched on Saturday an offensive on a Kurdish district in Syria’s northwestern Aleppo Governorate, causing casualties among civilians.

The Turkish army hit Afrin District with dozens of mortar and artillery shells.

At least eight Kurdish civilians were killed and 19 others wounded in the attack.

“The Turkish army –stationed on the borderline with Syria– bombed residential buildings in the Mosako town in Afrin,” human rights activist Dilovan Mirkhan told ARA News, adding that the bombardment led to a massive destruction in the area.

“Dead bodies of eight civilian victims were collected subsequent to the attack,” Mirkhan reported. “Many others remained stranded under the rubble.”

In the meantime, local rescue teams continued the search for survivors under the ruins of the destroyed buildings.

The Turkish forces also bombed the Shadiya village in Afrin countryside with heavy artillery, killing at least two civilians and injuring several others, eyewitnesses told ARA News.

Last week, Turkey’s military shelled a People’s Protection Units (YPG) headquarters in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah Governorate. Military sources and local activists reported that the Turkish Army also hit adjacent Kurdish fighting positions in Ain Diwar village, in Derik District. Scores of YPG fighters were wounded in the hour-long bombardment and massive material damage was reported.

“The Turkish ruling Justice and Development Party and its allies are trying to hit the Kurdish forces in Syria in support of Islamic State terrorists,” a Kurdish YPG officer told ARA News.

“We’ll not allow Turkey to continue those violations at the border,” the YPG leadership said in an earlier statement. “We are ready to respond and we’ll do whatever it takes in order to stop this offensive against our people.”

A special court in Mumbai has partly allowed the guilty plea filed by 117 Somalia nationals accused of piracy. The court will now decide on the acceptance of the voluntary guilty pleas at the time of recording the statements of the accused at a later stage of the ongoing trial.

“The applications are partly allowed. The plea of guilt of the accused is taken on record and acceptance of the same is deferred till the statement under Section 313 of the Criminal Procedure Code is recorded when the probative value of such supplementary pleas of guilt would be ascertained,” the order passed by special Judge V V Kathare states.

A source said while such a provision under a bilateral agreement has not been made between Somalia and India so far, it is under process.

[BBC] France's state of emergency imposed after last year's terror attacks in Paris is likely to be extended, Prime Minister Manuel Valls has told the BBC.

He said the measures were needed to protect democracy.

France is marking a year since militants from so-called Islamic State (IS) killed 130 people in gun and bomb attacks around the capital.

President Francois Hollande unveiled plaques for the victims, most of whom died at the Bataclan concert hall.

Three gunmen entered the venue and fired on the crowd, killing 90 people.

On Saturday night, the hall reopened for the first time with a performance by British rock artist Sting.
