Former Rep. Mike Rogers nudged off Trump transition team
[Wash Times] Former Rep. Mike Rogers abruptly exited President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team Tuesday at the urging of team members, according to multiple reports.

The Michigan Republican formerly served as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. He was serving the transition team’s national security advisor and was believed to be a frontrunner to head up the CIA in the Trump administration.

But transition team members asked him to step aside, Bloomberg News first reported.

"These past six months, it has been an honor to serve as National Security Senior Advisor to the Trump transition team," Mr. Rogers said in a statement.

"Our work will provide a strong foundation for the new transition team leadership as they move into the post-election phase, which naturally is incorporating the campaign team in New York who drove President-elect Trump to an incredible victory last Tuesday," he said.

Mr. Rogers said that he was handing off his duties to Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who is leading the transition team; Rick Dearborn, the executive director of the team; and the Trump family.

N. Korea Begs China to Stop Calling Kim Jong-un Fat
North Korean officials are pleading with their counterparts in China to stop calling North Korean President Kim Jong-un fat, according to The Sun newspaper in the U.K.

The dictator has gained more than 80 pounds in recent years, prompting such derogatory nicknames in Chinese media as Jin San Pang, meaning "Kim Fatty III," Jin Pang Pang ("Kim Fat Fatty") and Jin San Fei ("Kim Abundant III.")

The Sun quotes Hong Kong's Apple Daily as saying North Korean government officials are asking their closest ally to knock it off over fears Kim will look for someone to blame. Kim's anger reportedly has led to death sentences among his top officials.
Oh my. I hadn't given this any thought. I'm not sure whether this is a bad thing to be avoided or a good thing to be taken advantage of.
The Sun earlier reported that North Korean scientists were developing a drug that could reduce weight without diet or exercise.
If His Abundance pulls this off, he will go from reviled to revered overnight worldwide.
And it isn't the first time North Korea has demanded their leader not be mocked. In 2014, North Korean diplomats demanded a London barber remove a poster from his window that featured a picture of Kim's odd coiffure with the slogan "Having a bad hair day?"

British officials told the North Koreans citizens in free countries are free to insult their own or foreign leaders.

The hacking of Sony Pictures was blamed on North Korea's anger over the comedy film "The Interview" which depicted Kim being assassinated by characters played by Seth Rogen and James Franco.

More than half of arrested anti-Trump protesters didn't vote in Oregon
More than half of the anti-Trump protesters arrested in Portland didn't vote in Oregon, according to state election records.

At least sixty-nine demonstrators either didn't turn in a ballot or weren't registered to vote in the state.

KGW compiled a list of the 112 people arrested by the Portland Police Bureau during recent protests. Those names and ages, provided by police, were then compared to state voter logs by Multnomah County Elections officials.

Records show 34 of the protesters arrested didn't return a ballot for the November 8 election. Thirty-five of the demonstrators taken into custody weren't registered to vote in Oregon.

DOJ sez Virginia driver's license suspension law unconstitutional
[CBS] RICHMOND, Va. -- The U.S. Department of Justice sided with a lawsuit filed in July on behalf of low-income drivers, which challenged the Commonwealth’s practice of suspending the driver’s license of people who can’t afford court costs and fines.

Plaintiffs alleged that state officials "unconstitutionally deprive people of this important interest by automatically suspending the driver’s licenses of those who fail to pay court fines or fees, without providing adequate process and without assessing whether the failure to pay was willful or the result of a defendant’s inability to pay."

The Department of Justice agreed that the practice did violate due process in a brief.

"...The practice of automatically suspending an indigent person’s driver’s license for failure to pay money owed to a court without adequate consideration of the person’s ability to pay violates the Fourteenth Amendment," the DOJ wrote in the brief.

The DOJ said an automatic suspension of driver’s licenses for failure to pay fines or fees does not advance a state’s inherent interest in promoting public safety, nor is it an effective means of achieving the identified purpose of this practice, namely compelling "future compliance with a court order."

The DOJ also stated that if a payment plan is offered, but a person can’t pay any money in the foreseeable future, states must consider alternative options that do not require monetary payment.

"These alternatives include reducing fines or fees to a manageable amount in accordance with a person’s ability to pay, offering community service programs, or requiring the completion of coursework, such as traffic safety classes," the DOJ wrote.

#4  When I was sixteen years old here in California and trying to get a drivers license all the grown ups kept drumming it into my head that driving is a privilege that can always be revoked for any transgression, not a right. How things have changed! But what does Baraq's DOJ have to say about it anyway? Why is this case not being decided by the courts?
Posted by: Abu Uluque || 11/15/2016 12:04 Comments || Top||

#5  Yes, driving is a privilege, not a right, but suspend a poor person's license and he won't be able to get to work. At that point, it's game over -- job lost, apartment lost, thrown in jail. I'd rather see some sort of work program instituted, say ten hours a week sweeping the streets at the equivalent of minimum wage until the debt is paid off. In the end the community and the individual will be better off, instead of both losing.
Posted by: trailing wife || 11/15/2016 18:51 Comments || Top||

#6  Still, why is this not decided in the courts?
Posted by: Pappy || 11/15/2016 20:18 Comments || Top||

#7  "I'd rather see some sort of work program instituted"

Virginia, where the suit is filed, has provisions for payment plans and (some sort of, I think) work program, but most courts don't tell the driver about them (and most drivers up on traffic charges don't bring a lawyer, even if they can afford one).

On the other hand, some of these people have 10 or 20 (or more!) different convictions in multiple courts around the Commonwealth (not including those for driving on a suspended license).

It Ain't Over: Idaho Trump electors report ‘barrage' of harassing messages urging them to change votes
Idaho’s four presidential electors say they have been getting harassing phone calls, emails and Facebook messages urging them to become "faithless electors" and not cast their votes for Donald Trump in the electoral college.

"A lot of ’em use bad, rough language," said Layne Bangerter, one of the four electors. "Nothing I feel intimidated over. But we’re watching it very closely. They’ve got our home phone numbers, our cell numbers, our emails, our Facebook. We’re just getting an orchestrated barrage from the left."

Idaho’s other three Trump electors are Jennifer Locke, of Coeur d’Alene, Caleb Lakey, of Kuna, and former state Sen. Melinda Smyser, R-Parma. "Caleb told me he had over 200 and something when he checked this morning," Bangerter said.

Locke said, "It is concerning to me. It does feel like some level of intimidation."

She said one message urged her to "vote for Jeb." Others questioned Trump’s qualifications or charged sexism and racism. "They’re not even from this state ‐ it’s Oregon, New York, California, Massachusetts, a lot of these is where I’m getting messages from," she said.

Bangerter, who worked for U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo for more than a decade, said he’s received around 40 messages on Facebook alone. "They attack my religion, they attack my politics, they tell me that I must be a terrible father, I must be a terrible American, they use foul language ‐ every swear word," he said. "They’re just trying to steal this thing. They won’t be able to do it, but they’re trying."

Bangerter said the messages have included automated robo-calls.

Idaho Secretary of State Lawerence Denney said, "While there is no federal requirement binding electors to their pledge, and while Idaho is one of 21 states that does not have state-level legislation to force an elector to comply, attempting to sway an elector’s commitment to their party through insults, vulgar language or threats simply lacks civility."

He said, "These are people who have volunteered to represent our state and their party in a process that goes back to the founding of our nation."

Denney said if people want to provide input to the presidential electors, they can send a letter or email to his office, and he’ll provide it to the electors before they hold their formal meeting Dec. 19.

Bangerter, who said he considers the Dec. 19 meeting "a formality," said the messages have urged him to vote for Hillary Clinton, or for anyone but Trump. He won’t; he’s the Idaho director of the Trump for President campaign and is a member of Trump’s transition team.

In U.S. history, only 157 electors have been "faithless" electors, failing to vote for the candidate their state endorsed.

Sixty-three of those came when Democratic nominee Horace Greeley died after the election in 1872 but before the electoral college convened; those 63 abstained.

The most recent incident of a faithless elector came in 2004, when one Minnesota elector voted for the same candidate for both president and vice president.

The outcome of a U.S. presidential election has never been changed by faithless electors.

Washington is among the majority of states with state laws barring faithless electors; if a Washington elector departed from his or her party pledge, a $1,000 fine could be imposed.

Passerby shoots, kills motorist assaulting deputy after traffic stop
[FOX] A driver who attacked a Florida sheriff's deputy Monday morning was shot and killed by a bystander who warned him to stop beating the officer, according to a report.

The incident began at around 9:30 a.m. when the Lee County deputy tried to make a traffic stop on Interstate 75 in Estero. Instead of complying, witnesses said the driver took off, reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

The deputy chased the suspect onto an exit ramp, where a witness said the suspect got out of his car and assaulted his pursuer.

Shanta Holditch told WZVN that the suspect pulled the deputy out of his car and "just kept beating him and beating him ... throwing him to the ground and punching him in all different directions."

At that point, WINK reported, another driver got out of his car and ran to the scene. He told the suspect that he'd shoot him if he didn't stop beating the deputy.

"[He] refused to get off the officer and the officer kept yelling, 'shoot him, shoot him, shoot him,' Holditch said.

When the suspect didn't stop his attack, the third man shot him three times. The deputy was not hit. The suspect later died.

"I heard like three shots. He fell down on top of the police officer," said a witness who would only give his last name, Smith. "After a moment, the police officer rolled him back over, got on his mic, then rolled over back on the ground besides the guy."

Authorities have not identified the suspect or the person who shot him and it was unclear if charges would be sought. WINK reportd that the suspect was armed and the bystander who shot him possesed a concealed weapons license.

WINK identified the deputy as Dean Bardes, a 12-year veteran of the Lee County Sheriff's Office. He was briefly hospitalized with minor injuries, but later released

The southbound off-ramp at Exit 123 was reopened Monday evening after being closed for several hours while investigators worked the scene.

Die Schadenboner: 'No, you are not educated; you are propagandized.'
[Everyjoe] And, yes, some of us are very, very happy right about now. The following, however, is about and largely addressed to those who are very, very unhappy right about now.

Modern, young, metrosexual, multicultural, social justice mongering lefties are idiots. They are idiots wherever found, all over the world. They are spoiled children; ill-mannered, ill-bred, weak, ignorant, and stupid. They are historically illiterate. They have no idea of how the world really works. The only ideas they have outside of the fever swamps contained within their neutronium-dense skulls, filled to the brim with professorial sewage, are the kind of ideas that can only survive inside the echo chamber of a safe space.2 They are, frankly, disgusting, and the similarities between them and actual human beings are minimal. Morally, intellectually, spiritually, they are cockroaches. Were it not that some of them are possibly larval stage human beings, creatures who may eventually grow up to be actual human beings, there would be little or no moral component to gassing them.

I mean, sure, the younger generation, every younger generation, not least mine, has been somewhat childlike until well past the onset of puberty. Indeed, the consensus of neuroscientists now seems to be that our brains aren’t actually adult until we reach our mid-twenties, or even later.4 But the lefty portion of this one is just special, in much the same way that kids riding the short bus are special.

So children, sit down, shut up, and listen; I’m going to explain to you why you didn’t get your childish fantasies handed to you by the adults, this time.

In the first place, there was your preferred candidate, the Hildebeest. You can mentally masturbate yourself that she was voted against because she was a woman. This is nonsense. She was voted against largely because she has a record of utter dishonesty going back to her youth. Twenty years ago New York Times columnist, William Safire, wrote:

"Americans of all political persuasions are coming to the sad realization that our First Lady -- a woman of undoubted talents who was a role model for many in her generation -- is a congenital liar. Drip by drip, like Whitewater torture, the case is being made that she is compelled to mislead, and to ensnare her subordinates and friends in a web of deceit."5

And that was written before she was in a position to parley her office and power as Secretary of State into kickbacks to the money laundering machine that is the Clinton Foundation.6 That was before that pseudo-charity paid for a chunk of Chelsea Clinton’s wedding.7 That was before she tried to cover her own incompetence8 as Secretary of State, concerning the Benghazi attack and murders, by blaming a minor filmmaker whose film had nothing, NOTHING, to do with it, putting his life in danger and sending him to jail.

But none of that mattered to you, did it? None of it mattered because you’re foolish children who do not care, indeed, are incapable, of caring, about the woman’s lack of integrity, her incompetence, her criminal negligence, or her total inability to take responsibility; all that mattered to you was that the bitch didn’t have a dick and mouthed lefty pieties, in public, even while you ignored her pandering to global finance, in private.9 How stupid must a youngster be to fail to understand that that means the bitch lies? Silly shits.
Happily Con't.

I printed it this morning and left it at my daughter's place at the breakfast table before I left for work (at 0500. The relevance of that will be lost on her.)

She has been in deep mourning since the election. She is everything the good colonel describes - 25 years old, 3 years of college under her belt before flunking out with huge loans taken out to finance a 'women's studies' degree. Blue hair and trying so hard to be gay because it is in fashion. Low paying, part-time job. Supremely jealous of her brothers because of their success. (Two engineers, a sailor, and two businessmen).

Honey, I love you but lose the eye/lip rings and observe the habits of successful people. I'll gently help you.

Except for today - I'm rubbing your nose in it. Supper should be interesting.

Short list of potential Trump administration picks
[Reuters] U.S. President-elect Donald Trump recently announced the first major appointments to his administration but still has many positions to fill ahead of his inauguration on Jan. 20.

Trump announced on Sunday he will hire Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus as White House chief of staff and named Stephen Bannon, former head of the conservative web site Breitbart News, as his chief strategist and senior counselor. The selection of Bannon drew sharp criticism from Democrats, who criticized Breitbart News' ties to racist messages.

Below are people mentioned as contenders for senior roles.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Now trapped, Syrian refugees regret fleeing to Gaza
[IsraelTimes] A dozen families that entered the Strip unofficially through tunnels have no status, work or aid, and cannot leave

Like millions of Syrians, Wareef Hamedo fled the civil war in his homeland in search of safety and security. But in a decision he now regrets, he chose to go to Gazoo.

Hamedo’s family is among 12 Syrian households that found refuge in Gazoo after the civil war erupted in 2011 and are now trapped in the war-battered territory, ineligible for most social services granted to Paleostinians but also unable to travel abroad.

"We are trying to get out of Gazoo to any European country or where a Syrian refugee can find care," said Hamedo, a chef from Aleppo who is an unofficial front man for the Syrian families here. "Gazoo was a phase for the Syrians. We came to it because of the conditions that forced us to."

About 250 families from Paleostinian refugee camps in Syria made their way to Gazoo in the first two years of the Syrian civil war. As Paleostinian refugees, they were eligible for services such as health care, education and food assistance from UNRWA, the UN agency that assists Paleostinian refugees.

About two dozen Syrian families also chose to migrate to Gazoo after initially fleeing to Egypt. As the situation in Egypt deteriorated, they entered neighboring Gazoo through smuggling tunnels. Some managed to leave before the Egyptian army shut most of the tunnels in 2013. But half still remain.

Egypt closed the tunnels following the ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, who had been a close ally of Gazoo’s Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, rulers. The loss of the tunnels, along with a devastating 50-day war with Israel in 2014, caused Gazoo’s economy to collapse. Unemployment has soared, and the cash-strapped Hamas government has failed to provide shelter for the Syrians.

"We got many promises, but nothing was done," Hamedo said.

While UNRWA serves Paleostinian refugees, the main international body assisting displaced Syrians is the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, which has no offices in Gazoo. The Paleostinian territories also have no official Syrian diplomatic mission, so the families cannot renew passports or register their newborns. And because they entered Gazoo illegally through the tunnels, they have no way of exiting. With no legal status, work or aid, the Syrians can do little but wait for a miracle to leave.

Majed al-Attar wistfully recalled his life in Damascus, where he said he had a spacious home, two cars and a warehouse full of cement and building materials. His expired passport is full of Jordanian, Egyptian and Saudi stamps he collected in his business travels.

The house and its surroundings were hit from the air "and everything was wiped out," the 49-year-old said. So, he moved with his wife and child to Egypt in 2012.

In the run-up to the 2013 military overthrow of Morsi, things quickly deteriorated, and the options were to join migrants colonists on "the death boats" to Europe or move to Gazoo, he said. The second option seemed smarter since his wife is originally Paleostinian and had relatives in the Gazoo border town of Rafah.

In Gazoo, al-Attar was displaced again during the 2014 war, when he had to flee bombing and sleep in UN school shelters for several weeks. "It was a disaster for us," he said.

Now unemployed, he cannot afford to buy kindergarten clothes for his son who was born here in 2014. The boy has no official documents or citizenship, only a hospital notification that shows his name and date of birth. Most of the money he earns as a day laborer goes to the rental of a half-finished, sparsely furnished apartment. His wife managed to qualify for some UNRWA benefits, including schooling for the boy, but most benefits are out of reach because al-Attar is not Paleostinian.

"I regret coming here," he said. "We just hope to get out from here next month or the month after with my wife and children to live in dignity and freedom and with a secure future for them."

As Gazoo struggles to rebuild damaged homes, over 11,200 families are still displaced after the 2014 war with Israel. That has made it even harder for the Syrian families to find adequate shelter.

Amer Foura’s family, originally from the southwestern Syrian city of Deraa, has found shelter in a hospital.

His wife, Kholoud, a 39-year-old mother of five, has developed muscular dystrophy and is now hooked up to a respirator at Gazoo’s al-Wafa hospital. Her husband and children sleep in beds and mattresses in her hospital room.

"I have lived in al-Wafa hospital for about a year and a half," said the husband, who is unemployed. "My only home is al-Wafa since it’s able to provide and take care of me.

The Syrians scrape by with menial jobs and occasional donations from local charities.

Hamedo, the chef, is full of nostalgia, spending time daily flipping through pictures from his life in Aleppo, where he ran a restaurant called Café D’alep.

He pointed to a photo of a blond woman. "This was my girlfriend. She died in an Arclight airstrike," he said.

He enjoyed some initial success in Gazoo, opening a restaurant that enjoyed early popularity, but ultimately went out of business because of the weak economy, constant power outages and shortages of cooking gas. He has since married a local woman and last month, they had their first child, a girl.

"We just need to get the basics secured in our stay here," he said.

#1  The restaurant where Wareef had worked never re-opened and he has not found stable employment since.
The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has a strong presence in Gaza, but its mandate is to assist Palestinians,

(UNRWA is unique in terms of its long-standing commitment to one group of refugees. It has contributed to the welfare and human development of four generations of Palestine refugees, defined as “persons whose normal place of residence was Palestine during the period 1 June 1946 to 15 May 1948, and who lost both home and means of livelihood as a result of the 1948 conflict.” The descendants of Palestine refugee males, including legally adopted children, are also eligible for registration)

not Syrians, and thus their $770,000,000 budget can provide no aid to 12 Syrian households.

Shadowy Hamas official with ties to Iran tapped to lead Gaza
[IsraelTimes] Sources say Imad al Alami replacing Ismail Haniyeh, who is likely filling Khaled Mashaal’s shoes as politburo chief in Doha

The Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror organization recently appointed a founding member with close ties to Syria and Iran to replace Ismail Haniyeh as the effective political leader in the Gazoo Strip, sources said Sunday.

Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
, who has been in charge of Hamas’s political activity in the enclave, left in early September for a series of visits to Arab and Moslem states, apparently aimed at paving his way to replace Khaled Mashaal as head of Hamas’s political bureau in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
Mashaal has said he will not run in the next leadership elections, scheduled to take place by the end of the year.

Haniyeh’s replacement, Imad al Alami, 60, was born in Gazoo, but only returned there a few years ago.

He lived for some time in Tehran, then moved to Damascus in 2008. He returned to Gazoo after being the last Hamas leader to leave the Syrian capital; relations with Syrian leader Bashir al-Assad had soured at the start of the uprising there.

Al Alami has so far avoided the media spotlight. He does not take part in pressers and uses neither Facebook nor Twitter.

Nor does he visit mourners’ tents as his Hamas colleagues do. In recent months, he has taken part in only one public event.

Amid shifting political sands in the Middle East, Hamas has in recent years walked a tightrope in attempting to maintain support from both Gulf states like Qatar and their Shiite rivals in Iran, Syria and elsewhere.

Haniyeh, who has been based in the Qatari capital Doha since leaving Gazoo, along with Mashaal recently met with Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
there. Haniyeh’s participation in that meeting is a further sign that he is on the way to becoming Hamas’s top boss.

It is his continued absence from Gazoo and his relocation abroad that has prompted Hamas to appoint al Alami as a temporary replacement until official leadership elections are held in the Strip in the coming months.

Al Alami suffered serious leg injuries during the Israel-Gazoo war in the summer of 2014, in circumstances that are not totally clear.

According to one claim, he was hurt when an elevator collapsed inside a tunnel in which senior Hamas members were hiding.

Another rumor says he was injured by gunfire during a battle between Hamas activists. He was treated in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....

Eleven Arab Nations Accuse Iran of Sponsoring Terrorism in Middle East
[Free Beacon] Nearly a dozen Arab nations accused Iran on Monday of sponsoring "terrorism" throughout the Middle East while increasing support for jihadist groups since signing the international nuclear deal last summer.

In a letter to the U.N. General Assembly, 11 Middle East and North African countries condemned Iran for continuing "to play a negative role in causing tension and instability in our region" through "expansionist regional policies, flagrant violations of the principle of sovereignty, and constant interference in the internal affairs of Arab States."

They cited Tehran’s backing of Houthi rebels in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon while also accusing the Islamic Republic of supporting "terrorist groups and cells" in Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, the Associated Press reported.

The Arab nations also charged Iran’s religious and political leaders of calling "for the export of its revolution to other countries." They said the only solution for the region would be for Tehran "to comprehensively change its foreign policies and end hostilities."

The letter was signed by the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Sudan, Morocco, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Yemen.

U.N. Watch, a Geneva-based NGO, said the letter was important because it was initiated by Muslim Arab countries, the Times of Israel reported.

"Iran likes to dismiss all criticism of its human rights violations and brutality at home and abroad as part of a western plot, but that’s hard to sustain when the accusers are all Muslim governments, including recent allies of Iran like Sudan," U.N. Watch director Hillel Neuer said in a statement.

Bob Dole Calls Anti-Trump Protesters ‘Young Punks'
[Free Beacon] Former Republican Senator and presidential candidate Bob Dole called anti-Donald Trump protesters "young punks" during an interview Monday with Neil Cavuto on Fox Business.

"I don’t think they even know Donald Trump," Dole said. "You know, I think they’re crazy. I can’t understand what is happening to the young people in America and what the future holds for the rest of the country if these young punks take over and continue their protests."

Dole also said he believes that professional protesters are involved in the demonstrations.

The 1996 GOP presidential nominee talked about the younger protesters who are walking out of school to demonstrate.

"But I also wonder where their parents are," Dole said. "I mean, if you have good parents, you’re not going to be out protesting, you ought to be in school worrying about your grades because if you are going to have any life in the future, you know, you’ve got to have not only a high school diploma, but also a college degree."

Dole joked that elementary schools and kindergartens would be the next sites of protests against Trump.

Dole did not endorse Trump in the primary, but was the only former Republican presidential nominee to endorse him in the general election and attended the 2016 Republican National Convention this summer in Cleveland.

Trump will Re-Install Churchill Bust in the Oval Office
[GP] This weekend British Ukip leader Nigel Farage told reporters Donald Trump will re-install the bust of Churchill into the Oval Office.
Express.co reported:

NIGEL FARAGE has revealed that Donald Trump will re-install a bust of Winston Churchill removed from the Oval Office by Barack Obama ‐ in a clear sign of the friendship the new President wishes to foster with Britain.

The interim Ukip leader said Mr Trump has already pushed Britain to the front of the queue for a favourable trade relationship and added that he is the man to forge stronger ties with the US as he flew to visit the business tycoon in his first days as President Elect.

Mr Farage said: "We talked about the prospect of the United Kingdom being at the front of the queue, all of which was met positively."

His comments come after outgoing President Barack Obama told the UK earlier this year that its decision to leave the EU meant it would be at the "back of the queue" for trade talks.

The Ukip leader described Donald Trump as an "anglophile" and said his re-installation of the Churchill statue was a clear sign of his appreciation for the historically warm relationship between the allies.

Stephen K. Bannon: Friend of the Jewish People, Defender of Israel
[Breitbart] I have worked with Stephen K. Bannon, President-elect Donald Trump’s new chief strategist and senior counselor, for nearly six years at Breitbart News. I can say, without hesitation, that Steve is a friend of the Jewish people and a defender of Israel, as well as being a passionate American patriot and a great leader.

A word or two about my credentials: I am an Orthodox Jew, and I hold a Master of Arts degree in Jewish Studies. My thesis at the Isaac and Jesse Kaplan Centre at the University of Cape Town dealt with the troubled status of Jews in an increasingly anti-Israel, and antisemitic, post-apartheid South Africa. I believe myself to be a qualified judge of what is, and is not, antisemitic.

It defies logic that a man who was a close friend, confidant, and adviser to the late Andrew Breitbart -- a proud Jew -- could have any negative feelings towards Jews. As I can testify from years of work together with Steve in close quarters, the opposite is the case: Steve is outraged by antisemitism. If anything, he is overly sensitive about it, and often takes offense on Jews’ behalf.

Steve cares deeply about the fate of Jewish communities in America and throughout the world, a fact that is reflected in Breitbart News’ daily coverage. It was in that spirit that Steve joined Breitbart News CEO Larry Solov (also Jewish) in launching Breitbart Jerusalem last year, fulfilling Andrew’s dream of opening a bureau in Israel specifically to cover the region from an unabashedly Zionist perspective.

On the other hand, she wasn't able to get away to vote last week (she's a very good massage therapist, and a lovely person) which didn't bother her, as she'd declared a pox on both major candidates. She said everyone she knew decided not to vote for Mrs. Clinton after the tape of her calling black men "super-predators" came out. I seem to recall that was something she said back when she was a senator... does anyone remember how it happened to come out again this year?

10 Nigerian Moslem protesters die in clashes with Kops
Well Shiites, anyway.
[al-Manar] At least 10 people were killed and several injured Monday when police opened fire during clashes with Shiites outside the northern Nigerian city of Kano, witnesses and police said.

Violence broke out when police tried to disperse thousands of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) who were marching from Kano to Kaduna for the Ashura religious festival.

“The police arrived and started firing teargas canisters on the procession of Shiites to disperse them,” grocer Ilyasu Ammani told AFP.

“I saw 15 bodies sprawled on the ground before the police evacuated them,” said Ammani of the violence in Kwanar Dawaki, an area on the outskirts of Kano.

Witness Kabiru Mudassir said he saw more than “10 bodies being taken away in a police van.”

Mudassir, who was on his way to work when he was caught in the fighting, said “more policemen are being deployed and a military jet keeps circling the area.”

Nigerian police said they opened fire on the crowd after one of their officers was hurt.

“They injured one of our officers and our men opened fire because they were becoming violent,” said a police officer who asked to remain anonymous.

The violence comes just over a month since 10 IMN members — who were also in the streets for religious celebrations — were killed in the town of Funtua in northern Katsina state following clashes with security forces.

In October, Kano police banned IMN from conducting street processions ahead of the annual Ashura rites.

Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai banned the group as an “unlawful society”, saying it was a security threat and calling for security forces to “vigorously” arrest its members.

In December last year the Nigerian soldiers attack the group members who fought for two days in the city of Zaria.

The fighting left over 300 IMN members dead while leader Ibrahim Zakzaky was left partially paralyzed and blind in one eye.

Iraq
US Military: Number of ISIS Prisoners Unknown
[Daily Beest] It’s the most important battle in the war against the self-proclaimed Islamic State to date: the fight to retake Mosul, the terror group’s Iraqi capital. But so far, the U.S. military does not know how many ISIS fighters have been taken prisoner, a senior defense official explained to The Daily Beast.

Iraq’s security forces have allowed the U.S. military to interview fewer than “a handful” of detained fighters under Iraqi control since the Mosul offensive began in mid-October, a U.S. defense official told The Daily Beast. The official could not say if any of those detainees were captured before the Mosul offensive, or after it began. Asked by The Daily Beast whether the U.S. military knew the number of ISIS fighters that had been captured, the official replied, “Nope.”

In contrast, the U.S. military during its last war in Iraq had access to thousands of Iraqi prisoners—and the intelligence they provided. But observers said the lack of detainees this time around reflects an ISIS eager to fight. And it shows the limits of a war in a city littered with bombs and tunnels, and home to hundreds of thousands of civilians.

Bangladesh
Investigators: Maqbul a war criminal
[Dhaka Tribune] War crimes Sherlocks say they have evidence that Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
chief Maqbul Ahmad perpetrated crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

"Our investigation against Maqbul has made headway but we’re yet to wrap it up," Hannan Khan, coordinator of the war crimes tribunal’s investigation agency, said at a media briefing yesterday.

"The evidence we’ve gathered so far makes it clear that he was a Razakar," Hannan said, reports Bangla Tribune.

He clarified that they recently got complaints against Maqbul. "We started investigating him based on a report run by an online newspaper."

Hannan said the investigation is at the primary stage, adding that they would decide later whether to charge the Jamaat chief with war crimes.

Jamaat-e-Islami openly opposed Bangladesh’s independence and formed auxiliary forces like al-Badr and Razakar to help the occupying Pakistain army carry out genocide on Bangalees.

An estimated three million people were killed in the war and millions of others forced to seek refuge in India.

The government put war crime suspects on trial after forming the International Crimes Tribunal in 2010. Most of the war crime convicts belong to Jamaat.

Maqbul was named the party’s Ameer after its former chief, also al-Badr commander, Motiur Rahman Nizami
...During the liberation war of 1971, Nizami formed the Al-Badr Force and acted as its supreme commander. The Al-Badr militia took active part in rape, extortion, looting and killing of Bangladeshis who supported the liberation, including a pre-planned massacre on December 14, 1971, when the Al-Badr militia along with Pakistan Army rounded up hundreds of doctors, professors, writers, and other Bengali intellectuals, and executed them...
was executed in May this year.

There are a number of allegations against Maqbul.

Feni freedom fighter’s commander Meer Abdul Hannan claimed Maqbul headed the district’s Razakar unit during the war.

He allegedly ordered the killing of East Pakistain Chhatra Union leader and freedom fighter, Maulana Waz Uddin.

Local freedom fighter commander Shariatullah Bangali claimed Hindu households were torched and 10 Hindus were burned to death in Lalpur village under the upazila’s Joylaskar Union on Maqbul’s order.

He alleged that the Jamaat leader had also ordered the killing of freedom fighter Ahsan Ullah.

Investigators went to Feni to investigate war crime charges against Maqbul at the tribunal’s order.

Maqbul hails from Omarabad village under Purbachandrapur union in Dagonbhuiyan upazila. He became a full-time politician after retiring from Feni Model High School.

He reportedly has not visited his village home after the Awami League took over the government.

Maqbul had been Jamaat’s acting chief for nearly six years since Nizami’s arrest.

Meanwhile Jamaat-e-Islami in a press statement yesterday evening said the claims of war crimes allegation found against Maqbul is untrue.

Nayab-e-Amir Mujibur Rahman said: "The chief of Jamaat Maqbul Ahmed was not a Razakar member or commander, or affiliated with the Peace Committees in 1971."

"In 1971, Maqbul Ahmed was teaching at a prestigious high school in Feni.

"Allegations against him of criminal masterminding the murders of people including a freedom fighter are untrue.

"I request the authorities concerned to refrain from presenting baseless accusations to harass Maqbul Ahmed for political gain," he added.

one of the attackers of German consulate who was on the lam, the security officials said Sunday.

The officials further added that the arrested suspect was among the three jacket wallahs who had launched a coordinated attack on German consulate in Mazar-e-Sharif city, the thriving provincial capital of Balkh province.

A photograph of the attacker was released by the security forces but no further details have been given regarding the would-be suicide bomber.

Shortly before midnight on 10 November, a vehicle laden with heavy explosives detonated in the vicinity of the German Consulate in Mazar, killing four civilians and injuring 128, including 19 women and 38 children.

Most of the injured suffered minor wounds from broken glass while those with serious injuries remain hospitalized. The kaboom also damaged more than 100 homes and shops.

The Taliban grabbed credit for the attack, describing it as Dire Revenge for recent air strikes in the neighbouring province of Kunduz.

Rep. Keith Ellison Announces Candidacy for Chairman of the DNC
[MEDIAITE] Minnesota congressman Keith Ellison has officially announced his bid for chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Ever since Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
’s defeat at the hands of President-Elect Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, the Democratic Party has fallen into a state of disarray and panic. The election has prompted calls for new leadership, and as a popular progressive who recognized Trump’s chances of victory early on, Ellison was quickly pegged as a potential candidate for the party’s chair.

"Democrats win when we harness the power of everyday people and fight for the issues they care about," Ellison said in a statement released on Monday. "If given the opportunity to serve, I will work tirelessly to make the Democratic Party an organization that brings us together and advances an agenda that improves people’s lives."

#1  ...So, to recap:

1. A Democratic candidate runs to the far left.
2. Said candidate gets her ass handed to her, Congress remains in the hands of the other guys, as do a pretty solid majority of the state legislatures. This can in no small way be laid directly to the feet of a political philosophy that is terrifyingly liberal, anti-American, and anti-democratic.
3. After just about a week of careful, reasoned analysis of the reasons for said defeat, the Democrats nominate as their new leader someone who is even more terrifyingly liberal, anti-American, and anti-democratic.

Got it.

Dems push Pelosi to delay leadership vote after disastrous election
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] More than two dozen House Democrats have asked their leaders to postpone this week's leadership elections in the wake of the 2016 election that saw Democrats fall far short of the gains in the House and Senate that most expected.

Led by Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, at least 25 Democrats have signed on to a letter officially asking Minority Leader Nancy San Fran Nan Pelosi

of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, to push back elections scheduled for Thursday.

Calling last week's elections "devastating," Moulton wrote in his unsent letter, "It is evident ... that the difficult situation in which our caucus now finds itself requires a much more extensive conversation between members and our elected leadership."

Moulton is not challenging Pelosi, or calling for her removal as leader of the House Democratic Caucus. But another group of politicians is seeking to oust her, and have suggested Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, as a replacement.

Government
Former Senior CIA Official Urges Trump to Bring Back Waterboarding
[Free Beacon] The former CIA official who led the agency’s clandestine service under the George W. Bush administration said he hopes Donald Trump reinstates now-illegal interrogation methods, including waterboarding and sleep deprivation, when questioning terrorist suspects.

Jose Rodriguez, who backed the Republican nominee during the presidential race, said those "enhanced interrogation measures" were necessary to obtain information vital to U.S. national security, the Daily Beast reported on Monday.

"We have to be able to capture terrorists. We have to be able to interrogate them. We don’t do that anymore," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez was a key architect of George W. Bush’s interrogation program following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. He wants the Trump administration to drop current cases against CIA officials who helped carry out the controversial measures and said the president-elect must craft new techniques.

"Enhanced interrogation techniques are well known to the enemy and we would have to come up with something else," he said.

Congress barred the Bush-era interrogation methods in 2005. The Senate last year passed a torture ban that directed government employees to only use the interrogation measures listed in the U.S. Army Field Manual, enshrining a law an executive order President Obama issued in 2009.

Trump has repeatedly said he would "broaden" the law to compete with brutal tactics used by militant groups like the Islamic State.

"These savages are chopping off heads, drowning people. This is medieval times and then we can’t do waterboarding?" Trump said earlier this month.

Rodriguez said he has no interest in returning to Washington despite speculation that Trump is considering him to lead the CIA.

Russian jet crashes trying to land on aircraft carrier used for Syria airstrikes
[RUDAW.NET] A Russian fighter jet crashed in the Mediterranean Sea Monday as it tried to land on the aircraft carrier that Moscow is using to carry out air raids in Syria.

The pilot of the MIG-29K ejected safely but his jet went down due to a "technical fault," Russia’s Sputnik news agency reported.

The jet was attempting to land after an exercise flight from the Admiral Kuznetsov, an aircraft carrier sent to the Mediterranean to back Russian bombardments in Syria in support of the regime of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
"An aviation accident with carrier-based fighter MIG-29K occurred during exercise flights as a result of a technical fault during the approach landing a few kilometers from the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft-carrying cruiser," Sputnik reported.

The MiG-29K is Russia's new carrier-based fighter jet designed for destroying surface and ground targets.

#15  I've often said that landing an airplane on a runway is almost a no-brainer compared to landing on a carrier.
1. The runway is about 2 miles long. A carrier deck is in the thousand foot range.
2. The runway is in the same place all the time. A carrier can move many miles between takeoff and landing.
3. The runway is always in the same direction. The carrier will turn into the wind.
4. The runway doesn't move up and down and left and right like a carrier can.
The only advantage landing on a carrier has is that they always have a strong headwind, no crosswinds.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
12 dead, 50 injured in suspected airstrike in Syria’s Afrin
[RUDAW.NET] At least 12 people were killed and 50 maimed Sunday in the Syrian Kurdish city of Afrin, which some reports said was from a Russian Arclight airstrike.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the toll of casualties from the incident, but said it did know what had caused the kaboom.

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
in a statement to the media late Sunday, Jigarxwen Mamo a spokesperson for the Kurdish security forces Asayish in Afrin put the number of dead at 8 and 51 maimed, 19 of them at death's door.

Mamo added that the rocket was Russian-made but they "didn't know who was behind the attack,"

But the local Kurdish news agency, ANHA, reported "reliable sources" as saying the attack was likely a Russian Arclight airstrike. That claim could not be independently confirmed by Rudaw.

ANHA said many of the casualties were internally displaced persons.

The injured were transferred to a local hospital, it added, saying the attack targeted a security checkpoint for the Kurdish authorities in Xezawiye village.

The news agency also published the names of those killed in the attack.

The Kurdish fighters from the People’s Defence Units (YPG) and its female YPJ counterpart, as well as the Kurdish Asayesh, are in charge of city city’s security.

Many regional and international countries have active air forces in the region, notably Syria, its ally Russia and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, which have all in the past targeted the Kurdish fighters.

The US-led coalition against ISIS also has been flying bombing raids over Syria for months, but it considers the YPG as allies.

NDS further added that the VBIED was confiscated before the bandidos bully boyz manage to use for the attack and was defused and destroyed by the security forces.

The Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.

This comes as a similar attack was foiled by the Afghan cops in Lashkargah city, the historic provincial capital of southern Helmand

A VBIED was seized before the bandidos bully boyz managed to detonate it in Lashkargah city.

Both Ghazni and Helmand provinces are among the volatile provinces in southeastern and southern Afghanistan where the Taliban bully boyz and bandidos bully boyz belonging to the other bad boy groups are actively operating.

Tens of Iranians, Pakistanis and Afghans killed in Syria battles
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Three Iranian military personnel and dozens of the Islamic Theocratic Republic militias have been killed in recent festivities in Syria’ northwestern Aleppo province, according to media reports.

More than a dozen of religiously devout Shiite faceless myrmidons from Afghanistan and Pakistain, in addition to three Iran’s Revolutionary Guard soldiers were killed east Aleppo, Iran’s local media reported.

The new casualties follow the killing of Iran’s state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
news hound, Mohsin Khozaia in Aleppo on Saturday. Khozaia was criticized for inciting sectarianism in his journalism.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had escaped from his bonds and overwhelmed his guard using the bludgeon the faithful Filomena had smuggled to him in the loaf of bread...
"Idlib Free Army" recently released a video showing an attack targeting a group of Iranian militias with a thermal rocket killing and injuring scores of them.

Iran’s battlefield losses continue to rise in Syria as high ranking officers were killed during recent Aleppo festivities. Some of them were identified as: Brigadier General Hadi Zahid, a commander of the elite IRCG Quds Force, Major General Zaikr Hussein of the Special Units and Brigadier General Mohamm Ali Mohammed Hosseini, a commander of the Commandos Unit.

Farsi speaking media outlets estimate the number of IRGC forces killed in Syria to exceed 3,000.

UAE court jails three men for involvement in banned groups
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A court in the United Arab Emirates on Monday jugged
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
two citizens of the Gulf Arab state to 10 and seven years in jail for membership of a "banned secret organization", state news agency WAM reported.

In a separate case, the court sentenced a man from another Arab state to three years for writing slogans and drawing on walls in support of "a terrorist organization" and writing offensive statements against state officials, it said.

The agency did not identify the men or the organizations, but the UAE has been pursuing a crackdown on Islamists it accuses of trying to destabilize the Western-allied OPEC oil exporter.

In the first case, the Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi convicted one man of holding a senior position in the "banned secret organization" and sentenced him to 10 years. It jugged
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
the second for seven for belonging to the same organization, running one of its UAE offices and promoting its views.

The UAE has banned several Islamist groups, including al-Islah, which is suspected of being linked to the Moslem Brüderbund.

In 2013, the UAE convicted dozens of Islamists, many of them suspected of belonging to Islah, on charges of plotting to overthrow the government, in a hearing criticized by rights groups.

Turkish jets hit al-Bab amid push to retake Raqqa
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Turkish warplanes struck 15 targets in the al Bab area of northern Syria on Sunday in an operation with Syrian rebels to drive ISIS forces of Evil out of the border region, the Turkish military said on Monday.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
has said seizing control of al-Bab, around 30 km south of the border, is a goal of the operation before targeting Manbij, from which Kurdish-led forces recently drove ISIS, and the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa.

Ten ISIS defensive positions, command centers and an ammunition store were destroyed in the strikes, the army said in a statement. Nine Syrian rebels were killed and 52 maimed during festivities in the region, it added.

The Turkish military launched the operation, dubbed ’Euphrates Shield’, on Aug. 24 and the rebel forces have so far seized control of about 1,620 square km (625 square miles) of territory, the military said.

ISIS uses bearded mannequins as decoys
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] ISIS is using wooden replicas of tanks and Humvees in a bid to subvert an air campaign by the US-led military coalition supporting Iraqi forces in the djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
operations, even using bearded mannequins to simulate Death Eater fighters.

The Iraqi army captured a handful of the mockups last week at a training site it retook from the group north of Mosul, ISIS’s last major stronghold in the country, which government forces have almost surrounded but only breached so far from one direction.

When seen close up, the models resemble toys but from a long distance they might be mistaken for real vehicles.

"As our troops advanced towards the areas we were charged with liberating, ISIS used tanks and vehicles made of wood to divert the military planes," Lieutenant Colonel Abbas al-Azaji said on Sunday, using an Arabic acronym for ISIS.

It is not clear how effective the mockups have been at thwarting aerial bombardment, which has been essential to the Iraqi forces’ ground campaign to roll back ISIS from large swathes of territory it seized in 2014.

Baghdad-based front man US Air Force Col. John Dorrian said the coalition had been tracking ISIS’s use of such decoy vehicles for a while.

"We call it tactical deception. ISIS has been doing it and that’s certainly a tactic that enemies like to use," he said.

"It is actually not as troubling as a lot of the other things we’ve seen," he said, like setting fire to a sulphur plant and igniting oil wells south of Mosul.

Also found at the training site were two large armored vehicles the bandidos holy warriors had used for assaulting enemy positions, and the blown out remains of more than a dozen vehicle-borne bombs which Iraqi forces had disabled.

Pro-govt tribal elder killed in Mohmand
[DAWN] GHALANAI: A pro-government tribal elder was killed in a blast near his house in the Lower Cheenari area of Mohmand Agency
... Named for the Mohmand clan of the Sarban Pahstuns, a truculent, quarrelsome lot. In Pakistain, the Mohmands infest their eponymous Agency, metastasizing as far as the plains of Peshawar, Charsadda, and Mardan. Mohmands are also scattered throughout Pakistan in urban areas including Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta. In Afghanistan they are mainly found in Nangarhar and Kunar...
close to the Pak-Afghan border on Sunday.

Assistant Political Agent of Upper Mohmand Haseebur Rehman Khalil said that an improvised bomb was planted by faceless myrmidons near the house of Malik Dara Khan in Safi tehsil, some 70km from the agency headquarters of Ghalanai, which went off when he was coming out of his home.

Dara Khan received multiple injuries and was taken to the agency headquarters hospital where he died during treatment.

Dara Khan was a former head of a peace committee in the area.

After the blast, security personnel conducted a search operation in Cheenari and adjacent areas and took 33 rustics into custody under the collective territorial responsibility clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulations.

Sources said the detained people had been shifted to the Ghalanai lockup where they were being interrogated.

The local administration and security officials told the Safi rustics in a jirga on Nov 7 to take action against gunnies and their controllers or face action. The jirga was also attended by Dara Khan and other tribal elders.

They asked the tribal elders to fulfil their territorial collective responsibility and take stern action against the controllers of gunnies in the area.

Police manhandle disabled persons in Quetta
[DAWN] Police officials on Monday reportedly manhandled and dragged disabled persons to clear the route for a government official during a protest demonstration in the Hockey Chowk area of Quetta.

The disabled persons were demanding the provincial government to ensure implementation of disabled persons quota in government services and were also demanding a special package for them.

"Four to five of our colleagues were maimed by the police," said Izatullah, the head of voice for disabled person in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...

He added the police dragged him on the road to clear the route for a senior government official.

Another protester, Asmatullah, said they were tortured without any justification.

The disabled persons have been protesting for five months to press the authorities for acceptance of their demands.

Pak troops responded to 'unprovoked' Indian firing, and targeted Indian posts effectively, ISPR said.

Iraq
Mosul’s Refugees Complain about Bad Conditions at Camps
Mosul- Thousands of Mosul refugees have suffered from a total lack of services in the three camps established to shelter them. Asharq Al-Awsat visited the Hassan Shami camp and heard many stories of suffering from people who lost family members, or left all their belongings to escape ISIS and found themselves in this shantytown without any relief aid and amid upcoming hard conditions with the beginning of winter.

Abu Mohammad, 62, is one of the camp’s refugees and has lost his son who was captured by ISIS. He said that he lives with his 15-member family at Hassan Shami and suffer like many other people from a huge lack of services.
He said his family members live in almost empty tents and has nothing to provide to them. The man added that he suffers from chronic diseases and that he had lost all his medicine.

Najat Hussein al-Tai, a legal consultant, said that people’s suffering began when ISIS decided to separate both sides of the city after its militants bombed the third and fifth bridges, which obstructed people from crossing to the left side of Mosul, controlled by the Iraqi security forces.

Even on the left side of Mosul people suffer from a total lack of food and medical supplies, particularly after the influx of thousands of refugees who escaped from ISIS, she added.

Tai revealed that more than one million people live under the fear of getting caught in the crossfire of international coalition and Iraqi forces on the right side of the city, which has been completely controlled by ISIS.

The consultant said that families in that area have been banned from leaving their homes and from hospitalizing the injured.

Minister of Migration and Displaced Jassim Mohammad has warned from a humanitarian crisis that threatens the life of thousands of refugees in the city due to the lack of food, water, and basic services.

He also said that since the launch of Nineveh’s liberation operations on October 17, camps established by the ministry have sheltered 37,184 families.

International organizations have expected the displacement of more than a million people during the ongoing military operations to liberate Mosul from the terrorist organization, which controlled it in June 2014, while more than two million people still besieged in the city.

Obama rebukes Clinton for election loss: he won by going to 'every fish fry'
[UK Daily Mail] President Barack Obama
If you like your coverage you can keep it...
delivered a veiled rebuke to Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
today for spending the summer and much of the fall taking it easy as Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
barnstormed the nation.

The two-time winner Electoral College winner said he was victorious in Iowa, a mostly white state, 'not because the demographics dictated' it, but because he spent 87 days going to 'every small town and fair and fish fry and VFW hall.

'And the challenge for a national party is how do you dig in there and create those kinds of structures so that people have a sense of what it is that you stand for. That's 'increasingly difficult to do' through a national press strategy, he said.

Conversations in the party about grassroots efforts and building a bottom up party will 'contribute to stronger outcomes in the future,' he assessed. 'And I'm optimistic that will happen.'

Democrats who are 'feeling completely discouraged' by last Tuesday's election, Obama said, should remember that 'things change pretty rapidly.'

'But they don't change inevitably. They change because you work for it,' he said. 'We have to compete everywhere. We have to show up everywhere. We have to work at a grassroots level.'

Donald Trump On D.C.: ‘The Whole Place is One Big Lobbyist’
[BREITBART] President-elect Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
says he wants to drain the swamp of Washington D.C., but he admits in a recent interview that he might have to rely on lobbyists to help his transition team.

During an interview with CBS correspondent Lesley Stahl, Trump admitted that he did have lobbyists on his team, but explained that it was the current state of the culture in Washington D.C.

"Everybody’s a lobbyist down there," he said. "We’re doing a lot of things to clean up the system. But everybody that works for government, they then leave government and they become a lobbyist, essentially. I mean, the whole place is one big lobbyist."

During Trump’s presidential campaign, he promised to institute a five year ban on White House and Congressional officials becoming lobbyists after leaving government service. He also promised to create a lifetime ban of White House officials lobbying for a foreign government.

Trump indicated he would need politically connected people to help him know the system, even if they were lobbyists.

"I’m saying that they know the system right now, but we’re going to phase that out," he said during the 60 Minutes interview. "You have to phase it out."

#4  Yes, it is. However, the real lobbyists, congresscritters, are suppose to represent the people who choose to elect them, not the money people or special interest groups that have overrun the place. Dear Donald, please stay at Trump Towers, and make the vermin come to you. Move the 'flag pole'. How many Department and agency minions want to be constantly on the train, plane, automobile to NYC every day? Let alone lobbyists who have homes in the DC suburbs.

#5  http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2013/01/28/revolving-door-government-ethics/1868597/
"In short, I propose putting a 50% surtax -- or maybe it should be 75%, I'm open to discussion -- on the post-government earnings of government officials. So if you work at a cabinet level job and make $196,700 a year, and you leave for a job that pays a million a year, you'll pay 50% of the difference -- just over $400,000 -- to the Treasury right off the top. So as not to be greedy, we'll limit it to your first five years of post-government earnings; after that, you'll just pay whatever standard income tax applies.
This seems fair. After all, when it comes to your value as an ex-government official, it really is a case of "you didn't build that." Your value to a future employer comes from having held a taxpayer-funded position and from having wielded taxpayer-conferred power. Why shouldn't the taxpayers get a cut?
More significantly, it is a principle of economics that when you tax something, you get less of it. So if we're worried about revolving-door government, we should tax it, so as to get less of it.

group say Trump's campaign trail rhetoric against Moslems ─ at one point calling for a total shutdown of Moslems entering the United States ─ will play perfectly in their recruitment efforts, especially for disaffected youth in the West.

"This guy is a complete maniac. His utter hate towards Moslems will make our job much easier because we can recruit thousands," Abu Omar Khorasani, a top IS commander in Afghanistan, told Rooters.

Trump has talked tough against Death Eater groups on the campaign trail, promising to defeat "radical Islamic terrorism just as we won the Cold War."

The president-elect later toned down his call for a total ban on Moslem entry to say he would temporarily suspend immigration from countries that have "a history of exporting terrorism."

But he has offered few details on his plans to combat various radical groups, including IS, the Taliban and Al Qaeda, which represent a wide spectrum of political views.

Iraq
Shiite force eyes ISIS’ top leader as it begins fresh offensive west of Mosul
[RUDAW.NET] The Shiite-led Hashd al Shaabi paramilitary force recaptured three more villages from ISIS west of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
Monday, the group announced, as it launched the next phase of a push toward Tal Afar airport and targeting ISIS’s top leader.

The force claimed that the villages of Um Hajar al Ulyah, Sirwal and Ragrag, covering an area of 10 square kilometers west of Mosul, had been liberated on Monday.

It said 300 families in Sirwal had been liberated from ISIS and that its forces had "transported them to safe places."

The Hashd al Shaabi, which says it has an armed force of 140,000 fighters, began its offensive southwest and west of Mosul on October 29, almost two weeks after the start of the Mosul operation by the Iraqi and Kurdish forces.

The group’s front man, Ahmad al-Asadi, told news hounds today that it has an area of 14,000 sq. km to recapture from ISIS.

He said villages it had liberated during the second stage of its operations number 74.

"The front that has been tasked to the Hashd al-Shaabi is one of the most significant and most dangerous fronts in this operation," al-Asadi said last month. He added that the Hashd "is tasked with one of the widest areas, ranging from Qayyara in the west, Tal Afar in the north to the Mosul outskirts in the east and some areas on the Syrian-Iraqi border to the west."

ISIS has been encircled on all sides in Mosul except the west, for which the Hashd al Shaabi is responsible.

Asadi claimed today that the area is vital and important for its geostrategic location between Iraq and Syria ‐ where ISIS has its caliphate in the city of Raqqa -- but also because the bad boys’ top leader is present there.

"The intelligence information indicates that their self-proclaimed caliph, the terrorist His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
, is usually present between Tal Afar and Baaj," Asadi said.

Group denies human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
abuses

Amid reports of human rights violations by the participating forces in the Mosul offensive, including the Hashd al-Shaabi, Asadi claimed they had faced no problems, and even provided badly needed food and medicines.

"We will exercise the utmost discipline as we have done in all our previous operations," he said.

But at least in one incident on Nov. 1, Rudaw’s Bahman Hassan, who was embedded with the Hashd al Shaabi in the Nineveh plains, reported the force lined up many men from the villages for security checks before transferring entire families to refugee camps.

"It's unclear where the men are taken and how the questioning takes place," Hassan said.

When the paramilitaries began operations more than two weeks ago, they said the largely Turkmen town of Tal Afar was among areas they wanted to liberated.

"The maimed and victimized town of Tal Afar and other towns will be among the areas (Hashd al-Shaabi) will liberate," Asadi said in late October.

He said that decision is now with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and reaffirmed that the Iraqi federal police and the Iraqi army will enter the town.

Earlier this month Abadi told a delegation of tribal leaders from Tal Afar that the Hashd force will not enter the Turkmen town. He said that Iraqi forces would be given that responsibility.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
had warned the Shiite forces against entering Tal Afar, for fear the force would brutalize the town’s population, which is largely Turkmen and a mix of Sunnis and Shiites.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian government offers safe passage to rebels in Aleppo
Ankara, Beirut-Residents of the eastern part of Aleppo, where Syrian forces clashed with armed opposition factions, received messages on Sunday from the regime giving opposition fighters 24 hours to leave the area.

The messages read: “Gunmen in east Aleppo, you have 24 hours only to take the decision to leave.”

“Those who want to save their lives must put down their weapons and their safety will be guaranteed. After the end of this period, the planned strategic offensive will begin,” the messages added.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a Britain-based monitor, and an Agence France Presse correspondent in rebel-held east Aleppo reported clashes in the Karam al-Turab neighborhood and the village of Al-Aziza just outside the city.

The AFP correspondent said the fighting could be heard in much of the rebel-held east, which is surrounded by regime forces and has come under repeated assault since the army announced an operation to recapture it in September.

Meanwhile, Ankara warned on Sunday from any attempt to change the demographic structure of Aleppo, at a time when Turkish-backed Syrian opposition factions were positioned few kilometers away from the city of Al Bab, the last ISIS stronghold in Aleppo province.

Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister and spokesman Numan Kurtulmus said that Aleppo and Mosul in Iraq were two important cities, and the fate of the region is linked to the form those two cities will take in the future, warning from any attempts to introduce to them any demographic change.

On the battlefield, SOHR said: “Turkish-backed opposition fighters are now two kilometers north and northwest of the town of al-Bab, and are targeting it with artillery fire and air strikes.”

SOHR director Rami Abdelrahman said: “This progress is a continuation of the campaign that began with the capture of Jarablus and has seen the jihadists expelled from an area of 2,500 square kilometers along the border with Turkey.”

Mustafa Sijari, a commander with the Euphrates Shield Operation, said on Sunday that opposition factions were able to advance eight kilometers and arrived to the outskirts of al-Bab. However, Sijari said that controlling al-Bab would be very difficult.

“We expect fierce battles that will take some time,” he said.

Al-Bab is located 30 kilometers from the Turkish border.

While controlling al-Bab is part of the phase 3 of Euphrates Shield Operation, Sijari said that the fourth stage of the operation would be in the city of Manbij, not ruling out a confrontation with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) there.

“We received promises from the U.S. that the SDF forces would pull out from the city towards the eastern part of the Euphrates River to prevent a confrontation with our forces. If that’s not the case, then we will be forced to fight Kurds, something we do not wish to happen,” Sijari said.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Lena Dunham won’t move to Canada despite Trump win, blasts those calling on her to keep word
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Add Lena Dunham to the list of anti-Trump celebrities who won’t be moving to Canada after all.

Miss Dunham, star of the HBO comedy series "Girls," took to Instagram to slam those calling for her to make good on her promise to leave the country if Republican Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
won the presidency.

"And for those demanding I move to Canada based on something I said when this man seemed like a steak salesman with a long shot at the presidency: stay busy reveling in your new regime," she said in a Friday post.

"I will go many places during my lifetime, surrounded by kindreds on a mission to spread justice and light. I can’t wait for all of this, and for the change to come, as we use what we’ve been given to protect those who can’t protect themselves," she added. "What are you living for?"

Miss Dunham, one of Mr. Trump’s most outspoken and visible critics, said at the Matrix Awards in April that she had plans to move to Vancouver in the event of a Trump win.

"I know a lot of people have been threatening to do this, but I really will. I know a lovely place in Vancouver," she told award ceremony host Andy Cohen.

UN envoy warns West Bank camp could ‘explode’
Because heaven forbid the towns called "refugee camps" be subject to the same laws as the rest of the West Bank.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The UN’s top official on the Israeli-Paleostinian grinding of the peace processor said Monday he was concerned the West Bank’s largest refugee camp could "explode" if intra-Paleostinian festivities worsen, during a rare visit to the Balata camp.

In what his officials said was the first visit in "years" by a top UN official to the camp near Nablus in the northern West Bank, Middle East peace envoy Nikolay Mladenov met with civil society figures and politicians including those believed to be opposed to President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
Balata has seen an uptick of violence in recent weeks, with Paleostinian security officials attempting a series of raids to capture alleged criminals in the camp -- leading to shootouts.

Analysts say Abbas sees the camp as a base for support for his political rival Mohammed Dahlan, who is currently in exile in the United Arab Emirates.

Mladenov said he had visited the camp to send a message that the "international community is watching" the situation on the ground.

"If you forget about these communities they will explode," he said in an interview with AFP.

Balata, where 30,000 people live in 25 hectares (62 acres), is the largest Paleostinian refugee camp in the West Bank and played a key role in previous Paleostinian intifadas, or uprisings, against Israel.

The lives of residents have worsened as the camps have been left behind economically compared with major Paleostinian cities, said Mukhaimer Abusada, professor of politics at Azhar University.

"Dahlan, who is the main competitor against Abu Mazen, has exploited the situation in the camps by offering some assistance to those in the camps," said Abusada.

Dahlan, Fatah’s former strongman in Gazoo, was expelled from the party in 2011 but is now believed to have strong support in a number of key Arab states in the battle to replace Abbas, who is 81 and has been in power 11 years.

Mladenov met with local civil society leaders and teachers and also the camp’s Popular Committee -- a politicianship body -- in a meeting closed to the media.

Abusada said a number of the committee’s members were believed to be allied to Dahlan.

Mladenov stressed the UN was not interfering in Paleostinian politics but was trying to stop political differences crossing "over into an environment that becomes violent in which Paleostinians stand against other Paleostinians with weapons."

"Our role is to be able to talk to everyone and to send everyone a very clear message that violence is not the answer."

He added the UN remains supportive of Abbas’s efforts to bring a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

"Abu Mazen is the person most committed to nonviolence and a peaceful resolution. If he is undermined that will affect the Paleostinian cause," he said, using the Arabic nickname for Abbas.

In the run-down camp residents were wary of talking politics but one who did not want to be named said the Abbas-run Paleostinian Authority was deeply unpopular.

The Far Left Is Planning The Biggest Political Protest In United States History For Inauguration Day
[DCClothesline] And this call to protest Donald Trump’s inauguration appears to have originated with a Marxist politician out in Seattle...
Well, if they're wearing all black, it should be easy to identify them and offer them a, er, safe space while they deal with their emotions.
According to the article, the Marxist politician is also a member of George Soros's Occupy Wall Street group. And according to the Washington Times, The Answer Coalition, which we used to know as the Stalinist "anti-war" group International A.N.S.W.E.R. (which stood for something not worth remembering), is leading the ritual lawsuit to expand protest areas along the parade route, to be taken from areas reserved for those celebrating the inauguration.

Mr. Soros wants his own party that day, and is willing to pay for it.

Afghanistan
Afghan president asks UN to add Taliban leader Mullah Haibatullah to sanctions list
[DAWN] Afghanistan's president asked the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
on Monday to add the Taliban's new leader to its sanctions list, in a further blow to efforts to revive the stalled grinding of the peace processor.

Afghan forces have struggled to contain the Taliban insurgency, with two deadly suicide kabooms claimed by the group at the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
air base in Bagram and at a German consulate in Mazar-e-Sharif in just the past week.

"We want the UN to add names of turbans including Taliban leader Mullah Haibatullah to its sanctions list," President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
said in a statement after meeting with members of the U.N. sanctions committee in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
Haibatullah was named leader of the Taliban after the death of his predecessor Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour in a US drone strike in May.

One of the Taliban's main demands for peace talks is for their senior commanders to be taken off the UN blacklist that imposes asset freezes and travel bans.

The grinding of the peace processor broke down last year almost immediately after preliminary talks began in Pakistain.

Since then, there have been various efforts to get it started again, including a series of talks involving the United States, Pakistain, China and Afghanistan, but none has so far had any success.

Arabia
Women in Riyadh feel more at ease without niqab
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The land-locked Saudi capital Riyadh has long been culturally conservative in comparison to other areas in the kingdom requiring its women to cover their faces with what it is known as niqab.

But women there no longer feel fully obliged to move around its streets covering their faces - except their eyes - with a veil known as the niqab, now considered by many as non-mandatory requirement in Islam anyways.

Instead, more and more women are opting to wear the Islamic veil that covers the hair known as hijab, sometimes even with strands of their hair showing, combined with colorful abayas or cloaks instead of the traditional black color.

A Vote for Trump Was A Hate Crime
[HuffPoo] We are all still reeling from the shock of the election results. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote yet we now must brace ourselves for a Trump Administration. The more I think about it and see the reactions from all sides, the more this feels like the aftermath of an attack ― a literal attack ― on our communities.
And which communities are these?
The groups that those “deplorables” love to hate and feel threatened by are now under attack: LGBT people, people of color, women, Muslims, the disabled and many others. This election was a hate crime. Not physical but psychological, and one that may well lead to legal and physical manifestations that would very much be categorized as hate crimes.
Replace the words "LGBT people, people of color, women, Muslims", with "whites, conservatives, men and Christians" and you have a sense of what this election was about.
I saw and heard about such pain and fear on social media and personally as we realized Trump would take the election. And it has not let up. I checked on several people who were expressing a level of fear that seem like it could lead to self-harm. I saw friends saying that they desperately needed to seek support at a twelve-step meeting or some other refuge. I saw pleas for self-care and to not let fear overwhelm us.
That's what ganja does to you. Take a lesson instead.
So it was already a concern and after finally being able to get some sleep, a vandalized Hillary bumper sticker welcomed me as I got my car to go grocery shopping this morning.
To me it is absolutely amazing how claims of vandalism and violence perpetrated against people of the left are popping up, yet not one single video, not one single foto of the incident emerges. It is almost as if the right's reaction is made up out of whole cloth to suit a leftist agenda.
We live in Montclair, NJ, one of the most diverse and progressive places in the state. For the first time in a long time I no longer feel safe. I used to brush off the occasional epithet and frequent misgendering, and have not had to deal with anything overt for some time. I fear that may change, not just at home but as I travel. With a daughter living in Texas and someone who travels for work, this feels very very real.
Very very entertaining, but ultimately provably false. Where's the video evidence? Cell phone cameras are everywhere. Why are there no fotos and videos showing the reactions this individual claims?
But does calling this vote a hate crime sound extreme? Not if you look at the definition. A hate crime is one motivated by prejudice, fear or intolerance toward an individual’s national origin, ethnicity, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability.
Textbook description of what the left and its supporters inside the government have done in the last eight years. No wonder they are afraid. They are afraid new government appointees will do to them what has been done to their political enemies during Obammer's run.
It is not news that throughout his campaign Trump spend an enormous amount of time spewing hate and vitriol at women, Muslims, Latino and the disabled. Brushing things like sexual assault braggadocio off as “locker room talk” and not seeing him held accountable by his supporters, the GOP or more of the media was at best disappointing. Actually is was infuriating. And embarrassing.
There was no sexual assault. What this writer calls sexual assault I call making a play. It failed, as it should have if the intended object of affection refused.
We saw protesters at Trump rallies mocked, beaten and arrested. As the crowd cheers along like a mob.
We saw the same thing at rallies against Trump supporters. Both sides behaved reprehensibly, and should be called to account, but won't.
So it should come as no surprise that many – not all – but many of the disenfranchised voters supporting Trump felt not only validated but empowered but this victory. Enough to create a climate where they are far less hesitant to act on their hate. I thought about how after eight years of a powerful, effective African-American President with integrity we now will have a President endorsed by the KKK.
Puleez. Some elements of the KKK endorsed Obammer in 2012. It's their personal entertainment to do so.
As we all try to wrap out minds around this new reality, as we approach January and the inauguration of President Trump, I hope that the impact of what this country just let happen sinks in. I think we will only see more fear-mongering, and hostility.
I think you will, and I think you should. After what conservatives have been put through during Obammer's run, they are entitled.
I fear that the haters have been handed a sense of empowerment that they will operationalize after years of frustration. We saw it after the Brexit vote, which this is constantly being compared to in the media.
Operationalize?
Add more syllables and it sounds more impressive, donchaknow.
I fear for all those who are now clearly in the crosshairs of hatred. I fear for allies who will speak up and protest a Trump regime and all it may bring. I fear we will be hearing about more than bumper sticker vandalism. I fear.
If bumper sticker vandalism is the worst you experience, thank your lucky stars for the civility that act entails.

Iraq
Mosul Offensive News
Iraqi forces capture 3 villages near Mosul

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Iraqi joint security forces and al-Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary units said Monday they had liberated three villages east and west of the city of Mosul as part of a major campaign to clear the city from Islamic State militants.

On the eastern axis, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah, commander of the “We Are Coming, Nineveh” security operation, said in a statement that the forces had managed to liberate the village of Naifa, west of Nimrud, the ancient Assyrian city which the forces liberated on Sunday. He said the success came “after the forces dealt the enemy losses in lives and equipment,” adding that operations were proceeding.

Al-Hashed al-Saahbi media body said, meanwhile, that the militias had liberated the villages of Ar-Rakrak and Um Hijara, west of Mosul, also causing ISIS fighters “severe human and material losses.” It said the forces had moved 5 kilometers towards Nazarah, another village.

The militia’s advances on Monday come as part of a third phase of offensives launched earlier on the same day, designed to retake the whole western region of Mosul, ISIS’s last bastion in Iraq.

20 ISIS Bad Guys die in airstrikes in Ninevah

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – The Iraqi air force has said it had killed 20 Islamic State militants in airstrikes west of Mosul on Monday.

A statement by the air force said that several airstrikes on Monday targeted ISIS locations west of Mosul, destroying a number of havens as well as a fighters-loaded pickup truck at Atasa district.

Iraqi forces, supported by popular militias, Kurdish troops and US aircrafts have been in a tremendous, successful campaign against ISIS in Mosul since mid October, seeking to liberate the group’s last sanctuary in Iraq that fell in its grip in 2014.

The group has reportedly sustained serious losses and lost much ground in the city under the brunt of continuous security advances.

The United States-led military coalition partaking in the campaign against ISIS in Iraq said last week that 1363 ISIS fighters have been killed since the launch of operations to retake Mosul in October.

ISIS artillery hits Qayyarah with chemical weapons

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – The self-proclaimed Islamic State extremist group launched three attacks using rockets filled with Mustard poisonous material on Qayyarah, leaving seven casualties including a 5-year-old child who suffered severe burns and was taken to Erbil for treatment, Alsumaria News reported on a video released on Monday.

The child’s brother said that the rocket fell near their house leaving a very strong smell.

The mustard gas-filled rockets also hit houses and markets in Qayyarah.

The United Nations warned of the possibility that ISIS will use more chemical weapons against civilians and security forces in Mosul, and emphasized that the extremist group has large quantities of mustard gas, ammonia and Sulphur.

Florida Dems trying to draft big money guy John Morgan to run for governor
[POLITICO] TALLAHASSEE — A Hillary Clinton bundler and longtime political consultant is starting an effort to draft prominent Democratic donor John Morgan to run for governor in 2018.

“He greeted it with mostly laughter,” said Ben Pollara, who helped lead the successful Morgan-funded ballot initiative this year to legalize medical marijuana. “But he did not say ‘no.’ I would not be doing this if he was not all right with it.”

Pollara is filing paperwork with the state to create the “For the Governor Political Committee.” It’s a play on “For the People,” the slogan used by Morgan & Morgan, a national personal injury law firm. Morgan, the firm's founder, did not return a request seeking comment.

The effort is being led by Pollara and fellow Democratic consultant Brian Franklin.

So far, the Democratic short list for governor in 2018 includes names like outgoing Rep. Gwen Graham of Tallahassee, Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine, and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn. Republicans considering a run include Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam and former House Speaker Will Weatherford.

“I’m just a big John Morgan fan,” Pollara said. “It’s not about not liking anyone else.”

He says so far he and Franklin have $25,000 in commitments for the political committee.

Along with leading the medical marijuana ballot initiative, Pollara also raised more than $270,000 for Clinton’s failed presidential bid.

The early push to get Morgan to run comes as Democrats deal with a difficult 2016 election cycle. They lost the presidential race, Florida’s nationally watched U.S. Senate race, and were defeated in a series high-profile legislative races.

India-Pakistan
Why India wiped out 86% of its cash overnight
[BBC] India is in the middle of an extraordinary economic experiment.

On 8 November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave only four hours' notice that virtually all the cash in the world's seventh-largest economy would be effectively worthless.

The Indian government likes to use the technical term "demonetisation" to describe the move, which makes it sound rather dull. It isn't. This is the economic equivalent of "shock and awe".

Do not believe reports that this is primarily about bribery or terror financing, the real target is tax evasion and the policy is very daring indeed.

You can see the effects outside every bank in the country. I am in Tamil Nadu in the south of India and here, as in every other state in the country, queues of people clutching wads of currency stretch halfway down the street.

Dem Strategist Mocks Trump Supporter Beat Up By Mob: ‘Oh My Goodness, Poor White People!’

Kurds dismantle hundreds of explosions in Hasakah
[ARA News] Hasakah – After losing many areas to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), ISIS militants have been planting landmines randomly before retreating from main strongholds in northeastern Syria, especially in Hasakah Governorate.

Due to the threat such landmines and explosive devices pose to civilian lives, the Kurdish-led Self-Administration has recently established the Roj Organization to dismantle ISIS’ mines and explosives in Hasakah countryside–near the border with Iraq.

The organization was established nearly four months ago, with a staff of volunteers who have been working with some modest equipment to dismantle explosives.

“We have been encountering mounting difficulties while trying to dismantle those explosives. Operating with such modest equipment affects the progress of our work,” Muhammad al-Himas, a member of the Roj Organization, told ARA News.

“We haven’t received any support from the international community so far,” he added.

The Roj Organization has recently started working in the al-Hawl area near the Iraqi border in a bid to clear the borderline to allow Iraqi refugees to cross safely. This comes as thousands of people were displaced from the war-torn city of Mosul, and many of them headed to al-Hawl Camp in northeastern Syria.

“We came to the al-Hawl area to dismantle the landmines in order to make a secure passage available for Iraqi refugees who have been fleeing from Mosul city,” Malik Ahmed, another volunteer within Roj Organization, told ARA News. “Those people need a safe passage, and we are doing our best to assist them cross the border safely.”

Ahmed also pointed out that ISIS has purposively mined many agricultural lands in Hasakash countryside “in an attempt to prevent cultivation”.

The ISIS’ leftovers of landmines and explosive devices have claimed lives of dozens of people in Syria’s Hasakah Governorate, especially in the countryside where civilian’s movement became heavily restricted.

The video shows an ISIS militant fighter emerging from his hiding place with raised arms and being told to lift up his shirt to check for a suicide belt.

The man appears disheveled as he surrenders begging the forces not to shoot at him.

The capture was part of a wider operation by allied forces to retake Mosul from ISIS, which began on Oct. 17.

Dozens killed in fresh violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state
[Dhaka Tribune] Myanmar’s Rakhine state was hit by fresh waves of violence over the weekend with more than 30 faceless myrmidons killed over two-days of fighting, the military said, as fears soar for the strife-torn region.

Northern Rakhine, which is home to the Moslem Rohingya minority and borders Bangladesh, has been under military lockdown ever since surprise raids on border posts left nine police dead last month.

Soldiers have killed scores and tossed in the calaboose
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
many more in their hunt for the attackers, who the government says are radicalised Rohingya holy warriors with links to overseas Islamists.

The crisis and reports of grave rights abuses being carried out in tandem with the security crackdown have piled international pressure on Myanmar’s new civilian government and raised questions about its ability to control the military.

Days of apparent calm were shattered on Saturday when the army said six attackers and two soldiers were killed during a series of coordinated ambushes that were only beaten back with the help of helicopter gunships.

The toll then jumped on Sunday following further festivities.

In a statement Myanmar’s military said, Air Force helicopters opened fire on attackers in after two soldiers were killed in festivities with men armed with guns, knives and spears.

Six other faceless myrmidons were killed during festivities elsewhere in the state on Sunday, the statement added.

Authorities have heavily restricted access to the area, making it difficult to independently verify government reports or accusations of army abuse.

Attacks in Iraq kill 14, wound 26; Shiites targeted in Karbala
[RUDAW.NET] At least 14 people were killed and 26 maimed in attacks near the Iraqi city of Karbala and in Fallujah on Monday, with ISIS claiming responsibility for the attacks.

In Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
two boom-mobiles rocked the city west of Baghdad, with security sources saying they targeted a police checkpoint. Eight people were killed and 20 maimed in those attacks, following which a curfew was declared in the city, according to news reports.

An earlier attack targeted A’in Tamar, a town west of Karbala.

"The security forces clashed with six jacket wallahs wearing explosives belts after they infiltrated into the al-Jihad neighborhood in A’in Tamar," Saad Ma’an, spokesperson of the Iraqi interior ministry, told al-Sharqiya TV.

"Five of them were killed by the security forces and a sixth detonated his explosives after he was seized in a house," he said, adding that six people were killed in the attack and as many maimed.

Rooters reported that the attack happened during the outset of the Shiite Arbayeen ceremonies, which mourn the Shiite saint Hussein and that attract thousands of people each year to what is the sect’s holiest city.

ISIS warned in a statement that it plans to target Shiite members of the Iraqi army and police, Rooters reported.

167 ISIS Turbans die in rebel combat operations in Raqqa
[ARA News] Raqqa – The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continued Tuesday its military campaign ‘Euphrates Wrath Operation’ against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria’s Raqqa, and reported new gains.

The Kurdish-led SDF announced the death of at least 167 ISIS militants so far in the campaign that started last week.

“Our forces have liberated dozens of villages and farms in northern Raqqa, in an area measuring approximately 550 square kilometres during the first phase of the operation,” the SDF said in a statement.

“Also, dead bodies of 167 ISIS terrorists have been found subsequent to clashes, and four terrorists were taken captive by our forces,” the SDF leadership reported on Monday.

Military sources told ARA News that the Syrian Democratic Forces have also captured seven strategic hills in the northern suburb of Raqqa after heavy fighting with ISIS.

“Since the start of the battle for Raqqa, the SDF has destroyed 14 ISIS military vehicles, 8 Doshka machine guns and 4 ISIS artilleries, beside dismantling 240 improvised explosive devices,” the SDF leadership said. “Our forces also seized a large deal of ammunition during the clashes.”

At least four SDF fighters have lost their lives since the start of the operation last week.

“ISIS is unable to resist for long. Raqqa operation is going well, and our forces are determined to eliminate this terrorist organization,” Rashid Fouad, an American volunteer in the SDF ranks, told ARA News at the battlefront.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces launched the Euphrates Wrath Operation on 6 November, with support from the US-led coalition. The operation’s long-term objective is the isolation and elimination of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Raqqa.

Meanwhile, the SDF-affiliated Syrian Democratic Council started on Monday working on the establishment of a civilian administration to run the city of Raqqa after ISIS expulsion.

According to the leadership of Syrian Democratic Council, it is important that a local civilian council runs the city of Raqqa in post-ISIS era.

“Such an administration could provide a good example for democratic change in Raqqa, especially that the city has been for years a de facto capital for the ISIS terrorist group,” Kurdish co-Chair of the Syrian Democracy Council Ilam Ahmed told ARA News. “The liberation of Raqqa would be a crucial and historical victory against ISIS.”

The Kurdish People’s Protection Units, Women’s Protection Units, Syriac Military Council, Raqqa Revolutionaries Battalion and Tel Abyad Revolutionary Brigade are participating in Euphrates Wrath Operation for Raqqa. These ground forces are being bolstered by the US-led coalition, which is providing air support and advice from US military experts.

Arabia
Houthi Militias Cannot Suppress Civilian Protests with Brutality
Houthis: "Watch us."
Aden- Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid Bin Dagher said that the sudden disappearance of liquid cash from both Sanaa and Hodeidah Central Bank branches, in addition to the registered deficiency in the bank’s ability discharge the payroll of employees is a reason for great concern.

Citizens are directly affected by the delayed salaries. More so, civilian life has been rendered to absolute torment and difficulty by the Iran-backed militias who wreaked havoc over Yemen.

Hundreds took to the streets of Yemen’s capital Sanaa and the southern port city of Aden on Sunday to protest a liquidity crunch that has prevented authorities from paying salaries for the past three months.

Security forces loyal to the anti-government Houthi rebels dispersed dozens of protesters in Sanaa. They also maintained a heavier-than-usual presence throughout the capital in anticipation of renewed protests.

Demonstrations staged by soldiers and civilians were faced with Houthi cruelty and violations of civil rights, however, Mr. Dagher says that public rage cannot be diminished or overcome by brute force.

Iran-aligned Houthi militants cracked down on several protests by public servants demanding months of unpaid salaries, residents said on Sunday.

Militiamen cracked down on the protesters using live bullets, rounding a number of them up. Houthis are facing an acute cash crisis as the internationally-recognized government relocated the central bank headquarters to Aden, saving national assets from Houthi monopoly, depriving them from a vital source of finance.

Bin Daghr added that it is time for Houthis to lean towards realizing a peace settlement for the war-torn country, which could only manifest through coup gunmen withdrawing from chief territory such as Taiz and Hodeidah.

Turning in arms is also a predominant factor to realizing a political peace solution, as Houthis and former president Ali Abdullah Saleh loyalists are requested to surrender all illegal artillery to a third neutral party, so that the arm power gets to safekeeping and is never raised again against the national institution and public.

Okaz newspaper commented on Yemen, saying that despite all attempts and initiatives undertaken by the Kingdom, other Gulf States and the United Nations to extinguish the flames of the Yemeni crisis and restore the missing security and stability, Houthi intransigence and continuous deception of supporters of ousted Saleh have thwarted any attempt, initiative and effort for solving the crisis.

The paper called on the international community to take a tough stance against Houthi militias and ousted Saleh loyalists

Army launches air, ground assault on Benghazi
[Libya Herald] Benghazi, 14 November 2016:

Heavy artillery was still firing tonight in Benghazi after day-long heavy fighting in which at least ten soldiers, including a commander, died trying to seize the resort district of Ganfouda from the Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council and its IS and Ansar Al-Sharia terrorist allies.

The assault began at dawn with airstrikes and advances by tanks and armoured personnel carriers. There has been bitter street fighting in which commanders say significant ground has been taken.

The army claimed to have freed militant’s prisoners as it moved into a number of areas including Shara Al-Shaggar (“Tree Street”) and the Deaf and Dumb Institute on the Gwarsha Road. Troops also captured a cement mixer truck with an armour-plated cab before it could be used as a potentially devastating vehicle bomb. There was however a suicide car bombing in Gwarsha, where the vehicle exploded without causing casualties. The terrorists also fired further salvoes of rockets towards Benina airbase.

In the course of today’s battle, a number of foreigners has fled the encircled terrorist positions. An officer in the 309 Tobruk Battalion, Munir Alkartosh, said that a Sudanese family of six and three Chadians had crossed into the army’s lines and said that they had been trapped in the enclave and forbidden to leave. Charities, including Human Rights Watch have expressed deep concern for civilians caught up in the Ganfouda battle.

There had reportedly been fury among commanders that overnight there was much talk on social media about the impending dawn attack. An army spokesman today asked bloggers and media to stop posting details of operations and to leave it to the army to give details of the situation on the ground.

Among the slain soldiers was 148 Infantry Battalion commander Wanis Sassi. At least 31 troops have also been injured in what has been the most bloody day of fighting for some months. The army has given no figures for enemy casualties. Ambulances have been running back from the front line taking the wounded from frontline clearing stations to hospitals.

The city through which the injured have been passing is oddly normal. Though palls of smoke are rising from the south-west and gunfire and explosions have been heard all day, the streets have police patrols who are giving out tickets for cars without registration plates and traffic is moving in an orderly manner.

The Children’s Theatre has been running a computer technology show and a café exclusively for women, run by women has just opened in Dubai Street.

Also away from the fighting, the work of mine and ordinance clearance continues. This morning a tracked vehicle was damaged when it drove over a mine on the university campus at Garayunis. Though the vehicle was badly damaged, the driver was unharmed.

Tunisia Finds 4 Arms Caches near Libya Border
[al-Manar] Tunisian authorities have discovered four arms caches in the south of the country near the border with war-ravaged Libya and seized large quantities of weapons, security sources said Monday.

Two were found Saturday near the city of Ben Guerdane, a third on Sunday and another on Monday also in the same region, they said.

The interior ministry said the biggest find was made Sunday, in a garage on the outskirts of Ben Guerdane where 50 guns, including 27 Kalashnikov assault rifles, and dozens of missiles were confiscated.

Authorities also seized 30 crates of ammunition as well as 12 kilograms (26.4 pounds) of explosives and more than 1,000 tasers, it said.

Three suspects, including the owner of the garage, were detained for questioning, the ministry said, adding that a fourth person was arrested after Monday’s find.

A defense ministry official told Shems FM radio that the arms caches were discovered thanks to information found on the cell phone of a ‘jihadist’ who was shot dead by security forces last week.

Iraq
Iraqi army reports killing more than 1000 ISIS militants in Mosul neighborhoods
[RUDAW.NET] More than 1,000 ISIS gunnies have been killed and 10 neighborhoods on the eastern and southeastern sides of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
liberated by Iraqi armed forces since the launch of an offensive to retake the city last month, the Iraqi military said.

"In general, ISIS is greatly damaged and defeated as 1,100 gunnies of the group have been killed since the start of the Mosul offensive," Lieutenant General Adnan Assadi, told Rudaw.

Assadi added that Iraqi "counter terrorism forces have also been able to regain control of 10 neighborhoods of Mosul while ISIS was putting up stiff resistance in these neighborhoods as they were strongly present."

Assadi said the army continues its advances on several other neighborhoods including "al-Zahra and Samah1."

Samah2 has been liberated, he added.

Assadi said the army was aiming for the city center.

"We also help rescue civilians," apart from fighting ISIS, he noted.

According to UN officials, an estimated 48,000 people have now fled Mosul since the military offensive that began on October 17.

ISIS, which is still in control of most parts of the city in particular the western bank of the Tigris River, has been using boom-mobiles and snipers to halt or slow down the advance of the Iraqi forces.

The Iraqi War Media Office reported last week that their forces are clearing areas that have come under their control in the last few days, but reports from the battlefield indicate a slow and fierce street fight between Iraqi troops and ISIS gunnies in areas declared free.

Kurds deal with underage nuptials, polygamy in Syria
[ARA News] Qamishli – While in areas held by the Syrian government or the opposition polygamy and underage marriages are allowed and even promoted, the Syrian Kurds are the only ones providing a secular model in which polygamy and underage marriages are banned.

Since July 2012, the People’s Protection Units (YPG) took control of most of the Kurdish enclaves in Syria and since the siege of Kobane in September 2014 have gained international attention for being one of the most effective groups to fight the head-cutting militants of the Islamic State (ISIS). Local administrations were set up in northern Syria, known in Kurdish as Rojava.

Also, unlike the rest of Syria, in the Rojava there are females commanding units and actively fighting as part of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), the female branch of the YPG. These female fighters fought to the death to defend the city of Kobane, breaking thoughts about the role of women in the Kurdish society. Now they are involved in fighting ISIS in Raqqa.
