Brave pooch saves life of Dachshund in need of emergency blood transfusion
[Lincolnshire Reporter] A brave dog at a veterinary hospital near Boston saved the life of a poorly pooch after he fell ill and needed emergency treatment.

Gemma, the Mastiff cross, usually spends her days greeting visitors to Sutterton Veterinary Hospital, but on Sunday, March 12, saved the life of an 11-year-old Dachshund.

Ni Ni came into the vets in need of an emergency blood transfusion after going into the hospital very weak.

Le Pen: I Will Quit Office if French Reject Eurozone Exit
PARIS (AP) -- Far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen says that if her plan to pull France from the euro currency is rejected by the French she will resign. Le Pen, speaking Monday on Europe 1 radio, reiterated her plan to hold a referendum on the euro issue if elected president, and "If it’s no, I will go."

She said that a show of support for the eurozone means the French "choose a model of governance imposed by the European Union" ‐ which Le Pen also wants to exit. It also means, she said, that "70 percent of my project cannot be put in place."

Le Pen is at the top of polls ahead of the April 23 and May 7 voting, along with independent centrist Emmanuel Macron.

Federal Judge's travel ban decision made on incomplete, leaked documents
[Breitbart] Both federal judges who issued separate decisions on March 15 revoking President Trump’s travel ban cited a draft Department Homeland Security document leaked to the Associated Press by an unknown person and included in a story published on February 24 as evidence central to their rulings.

The significance of the unofficial leaked draft DHS document upon which these two federal judges relied in making their controversial travel ban decisions is the false information it conveys about the level of risk posed to national security by refugees who commit terrorist acts.

The leaked draft DHS document also makes no mention at all of the significant public health risk, particularly from tuberculosis posed by refugees, a topic on which Breitbart News has reported extensively.

Neither Judge Chuang nor Judge Watson noted that two Somali refugees, Dahir Adan in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Abul Razak Ali Artan in Columbus, Ohio, committed acts of terror during a two month period in 2016, the first in September 2016 and the second in November 2016, that injured a total of 21 Americans.

The data included in the leaked draft document "is dramatically different than the data reported in another list of terrorists compiled by former Senator, now Attorney General, Jeff Sessions," Breitbart News reported last month.

Univ. of South Florida football player is shot 3 times after 'pulling a gun on a man' in road rage incident
[Mail] A University of South Florida football player was shot three times following a dispute on Saturday night.

Hassan Childs, 22, was injured in the shooting that Tampa police spokesman Lt Steve Lee said resulted from a road rage incident.

Police said they received a call from Jovanni Jimenez, 26, saying that Childs pointed a gun at him, his wife and child at the Eagles Point Apartments at Tampa Palms, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Jimenez then shot Childs three times in the upper arm and torso. He told police he fired his gun in self-defense. The university told the newspaper that Childs, who is a senior safety, is in stable condition.

U.S. Interfered In Macedonia's Political Process, Documents Show
Lawmakers are currently looking into interference by a nation-state with another country’s political process.

This is not in reference to the House and Senate Intel Committees’ investigation into Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election, though. Instead, several Republican senators and congressmen are inquiring about a partnership in Macedonia between the U.S. government and a foundation started by liberal mega-donor George Soros.

Letters have been sent by lawmakers to the Government Accountability Office, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and the U.S. Ambassador to Macedonia Jess Baily. In a January letter to Baily, Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee wrote: "I have received credible reports that, over the past few years, the US Mission to Macedonia has actively intervened in the party politics of Macedonia, as well as in the shaping of its media environment and civil society, often favoring groups of one political persuasion over another."

This past Monday, Baily -- a career diplomat -- visited Washington and met with Sen. Lee and his staff, a spokeswoman told The Daily Caller. Lee’s office did not elaborate on what occurred during the meeting.

While Lee just referenced "credible reports" in his January letter, he and five other Republican senators, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Georgia Sen. David Perdue, got into more specifics in their March letter to Tillerson. There they referenced the direct grants given by USAID to George Soros’ Open Society Foundations.

While many of the claims of Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election rely on alleged hacking operations, the American campaign in Macedonia is out there in the open.

USAID, which is responsible for doling out civilian foreign aid, has officially partnered with the Open Society Foundations. Since 2012, the government agency has given $1.5 million in grants to organizations chosen by the Foundation Open Society ‐ Macedonia (FOSM) and $4.8 million to launch a "Civil Society Project" implemented by FOSM.

Just last August, USAID announced a nearly $9.5 million program that would last until 2021 and would be administered in partnership with FOSM, Metamorphosis, the Association for Democratic Initiatives (ADI), and the National Youth Council of Macedonia. Metamorphosis was launched in 1999 by the Open Society Foundations and has since become independent.

These millions of dollars are being spent in a small southern European nation with a little over 2 million citizens and a GDP per capita 11 times smaller than the U.S.

The report released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in January regarding Russian interference in the U.S. election contained about a page of content on the hacking of Democratic Party institutions and individuals, and seven pages on the Kremlin-funded Russia Today news network.

Then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said during a senate hearing that, "RT was very active in promoting a particular point of view, disparaging our system, our alleged hypocrisy about human rights, etc. Whatever crack, fissure they could find in our tapestry, they would exploit it." In that same hearing Clapper called for the U.S. to have a state media program "on steroids" overseas to fight against this.

It turns out that much of the money given in grants in Macedonia ended up supporting news outlets which promoted a political stance, thus equaling the U.S.’ standard for political interference in another country’s election. Four outlets in Macedonia -- A1on, Plusinfo, Potalb and Okno -- are directly tied to FOSM, according to the group’s own annual report which stated these outlets receive millions of pageviews. In addition, FOSM and USAID are "partners" with Macedonia’s Media Development Centre.

A 2012 call for grants for the USAID’s "Civil Society Project," also mentions "use of new media."

The opposition to Soros’ influence in Macedonia is led by the conservative ruling party VMRO-DPMNE. A VMRO member of parliament told The American Spectator that Soros’ foundation was behind protests that broke out in spring of 2016. "It was a nightmare. The Soros army threw rocks at police guarding VMRO headquarters. Meanwhile, they were handing scissors out on the border to help people cut fences. Chaos," the member of parliament said.

This reference to a "Soros Army" is quite literal as protesters wore shirts that read "Soros Army." A Feb. 24 letter sent to the Government Accountability Office and signed by six Republican congressmen asked about U.S. funding of media in Macedonia and whether funds supported violence. The GAO has not responded back to the congressmen’s inquiry.

VMRO won a plurality of the votes in Macedonia’s 2016 parliamentary elections, however, the liberal SDSM party formed a coalition with the ethnic Albanian DUI party to gain a majority of parliament. This deal with the Albanian party would mean making Albanian an official language and possibly changing the nation’s flag, coat of arms, and national anthem.

The Macedonian member of parliament told the American Spectator, "They are destroying my country!" The VMRO party and its supporters have protested against these proposed actions, with the current President Gjorge Ivanov refusing to give the opposition leader a mandate to form a government.

Paul Ryan's Catastrophic Lack of Political Skill and Judgment
[American Thinker] Everyone knows that a competent lawyer never asks a question in court to which he doesn’t already know the answer. And likewise, a competent political leader never puts a piece of legislation up for a vote without having a good idea of what the vote will be. But when Paul Ryan released his American Health Care Act he evidently had no idea what its reception would be. Whole sections of his own party were angered, and it was obvious that his bill had no chance of passage without truly major changes.

Why didn’t Ryan know all of that before he published the bill? A skilled leader sounds out the major opinion centers in his party to get a sense of what it will take to get them all on board, so that by the time the bill is published he knows where everyone stands and how they will vote. By going public with his bill before ascertaining the lay of the land, Ryan has created an ugly rift within his party, delayed and endangered the forward movement of the Trump administration, and further alienated a GOP base which has long been exasperated by the ineffectiveness of its congressional leaders. But Paul Ryan’s political incompetence is by now a very old story.

Maybe the notion to 'replace' Obamacare is the real problem?

#4  I keep coming back to Trump's lack of experience working with a legislature. I'm not faulting him here - that was actually one of his 'qualifications' to be president. But I think it's at the core of what happened last week.

Ryan came up with a bill to fix ObamaCare. He told the president that this was step 1 of 3 steps to complete repeal. Trump bought this and had his team get behind Ryan.

Now, everyone but Trump and his team knew that there was never going to be a step 2 or step 3. At the end of the day, that's why so many GOP Reps opposed RyanCare. And Trump just learned a lesson about Congress - they LIE.
Posted by: Iblis || 03/27/2017 12:36 Comments || Top||

#5  Sorry Iblis but I must disagree. Ryan and the GOPe were the ones who knew there would be no step 2 or 3.

Ryan has created an ugly rift within his party, delayed and endangered the forward movement of the Trump administration

I'd bet that this was the exact goal of Ryan's maneuvering. I think that Trump may have out foxed him by "going along".

One of the things I learned in all my years of consulting is that sometimes you have to let the client fail before you can move forward. I think this is Ryan's failure and the GOPe can't get any credit. Remember they are all part of the Inner Party adversaries that Trump must contend with.

#7  Agreed, AlanC. Trump is way ahead of all these establishment republicans. They are the same ones that have sabotaged Trump during the election and as president. Now the establishment repubs have blown their chance and failed in ryancare, and the dems own obamacare, their systems will crater. Trump knew this and decided to let them fail. Then when everything craters Trump will step in and set up a deal between dems and repubs.

The problem is that the whole way going about healthcare sucks. The congress does not know how the system works. Ryancare is the same as obamacare. A bunch of politicians setting up rules. Have you read anything? Are there hearings? Has anybody studied healthcare and see how healthcare works so we know what to fix?
This is all a fools game.

Here is a LINK to the beginnings of analysis.

Did anybody watch SotH Ryan during Hannity's interview a while before the vote debacle? Listen to all Ryans promises, and watch his body language. Calling someone a weasel is not being respectful to weasels.

#2  Repeal of Obamacare should have been a slam dunk. During the past 8 years, Ryan and others said they had a replacement plan ready to go. Doesn't seem they had much of a replacement plan ready to go. We would have been better off with a pre-Obamacare reset. It is hard to give people something even though it's p!ss-poor and then take it away. It was oversold and fraudulent from the beginning.

Trump has been busy making appointments, rolling back much of the accumulated crap during his first couple of months and fighting brush fires set by the Progs. and RINOs. -Lurid Crime Tales-
Extended Holiday or Obama in Exile - March 21, 2011
[American Thinker] For centuries exile has been the most popular strategy for kings and dictators to escape hanging, whether it be Charles II, his brother James II, Idi Amin, Ferdinand Marcos or the Shah of Iran. Exile also has been a preferred choice for those seeking political asylum from persecution such as Albert Einstein and Bertolt Brecht fleeing the Nazis, or Salman Rushdie finding safe haven from the Ayatollah's fatwa death sentence.

No US president has ever been exiled. For high crimes and misdemeanors impeachment is our cure. For lesser sins, a second term denied is punishment enough. Until Barack Obama came along, a president imposing one's own exile would have been unthinkable.

Self-imposed -- or voluntary -- exile is a contradiction of course, a contorted pretzel twisting our sensibilities. Exile historically is an act of banishment and shunning; punishment by forcible removal from one's beloved homeland. I suppose there can be a form of self-imposed exile under duress, the fugitive on the run, like Whitey Bulger -- South Boston's notorious mobster on the lam for some fifteen years, unlikely to return to his old neighborhood except in handcuffs or a funeral procession.

Yet self-imposed exile is a safe, even respectable, haven for those escaping high taxes, disagreeable politics, writer's block and boredom. As long as one doesn't renounce his citizenship, of course.

James Joyce profited well enough by a self-imposed relocation from his dear Dublin to Paris and Zurich. George Santayana abandoned tenure as professor of philosophy at Harvard to take up residence in a convent in Rome to be reunited with his Continental Roman Catholic roots.

Other self-imposed exiles are simple acts of running away from duty. In the military, abandoning one's post or desertion is always met with court martial and sometimes death. In urban legend form, it is the Wall Street investment banker weary of the endless commutes from suburban Connecticut, a nervous wreck from making multi-million dollar bets, losing most but winning only a handful more, retreating into the Grand Central Station tunnels under Park Avenue joining the ranks of the homeless, never to return as a captain of industry.

How to reconcile the optics of president Obama on his latest trip to Brazil? Being feted on the tarmac in Rio De Janeiro and later joining the dignitaries reviewing a Brazilian military parade, all while a new war has been started in Libya, our Asian ally lies in ruins, and federal government insolvency threatens our republic. This juxtaposition can only be seen through the lens of a self-imposed exile.

Obama is being chased by his own incompetence, forced to face it, unable to stare it down. Privately he must admit he is over his head and no one -- not in the legislature, in the labor unions, in the deep pockets of George Soros nor the salons of liberal media apologists and sympathetic academics -- can save his doomed presidency.

Obama is in full retreat. Disengaged and decoupled. A pathetic creature, soon to be deserving of mercy rather than scorn, if only his hubris were in lockstep full retreat. Is he guilty of desertion or mere dereliction? Desertion would be a harsh claim, but dereliction not so far fetched.

A president who voluntary withdraws -- or at least sidesteps -- from the duties of the office, is derelict, period. Even his own party faithful anxiously look for any sign of leadership coming from Obama, only to be turned away empty handed, yet again. Bereft of personal responsibility towards his fellow Americans, Obama has neither resigned nor renounced his citizenship. Yet through his apology tours has made us wonder whether renouncing his affinity for America and the leadership imperatives due the office would only be a public formality.

On the other hand, that $30 million advance will evaporate quickly, given that the family are spending like that will be their regular income. But if he doesn't quickly start delivering real access to power, the way the Clintons did until dear Hillary lost her last election, the donations and speaking invitations will dry up. Africa Subsaharan
Before and After Colonialism and the myth of the noble, happy savage
[Daily Caller] From their plush apartments, over groaning dinner tables, pseudo-intellectuals have the luxury of depicting squalor and sickness as idyllic, primordially peaceful and harmonious. After all, when the affluent relinquish their earthly possessions to return to the simple life, it is always with aid of sophisticated technology and the option to be air-lifted to a hospital if the need arises. Is there any wonder, then, that "the stereotype of colonial history" has been perpetuated by the relatively well-to-do intellectual elite? Theories of exploitation, Marxism for one, originated with Western intellectuals, not with African peasants. It is this clique alone that could afford to pile myth upon myth about a system that had benefited ordinary people.

What is meant by "benefited"? Naturally, the premise here is that development, so long as it’s not coerced, is desirable and material progress good. British colonists in Africa reduced the state of squalor, disease and death associated with lack of development. To the extent that this is condemned, the Rousseauist myth of the noble, happy savage is condoned. Granted, Africa’s poor did not elect to have these conditions, good and bad, foisted on them. However, once introduced to potable water, sanitation, transportation, and primary healthcare, few Africans wish to do without them. Fewer Africans still would wish to return to Native Customary Law once introduced to the idea that their lives were no longer the property of the Supreme Chief to do with as he pleased.

It "is an absurdity to assert that cannibalism, slavery, magical therapy, and killing the aged should be accorded the same ’dignity’ or ’validity’ as old-age security, scientific medicine, and metal artifacts," noted anthropologist George Peter. While old habits die hard, most "people prefer Western technology and would rather be able to feed their children and elderly than kill them," he notes in Culture Matters: How Values Shape Human Progress. And the West largely eliminated "many of the worst endemic and epidemic diseases in West Africa." Ask Moeletsi Mbeki, the brother of South Africa’s former president Thabo Mbeki. He has admitted that "the average African is poorer [today] than during the age of colonialism."

Even so--and whether they stay or go--the blame for all the ills of this backward and benighted region falls on Westerners. One dreadfully off-course notion has it that the colonial powers plundered Africa and failed to plow back profits into the place. This manifest absurdity is belied by the major agricultural, mineral, commercial and industrial installations throughout the continent. The infrastructure in Africa was built by the colonial powers. Far from draining wealth from less developed countries," as P. T. Bauer richly documented, in Equality, the Third World, and Economic Delusion, "British industry helped to create it there."

A Week of Diversity and Terror
On Saturday, Ziyed Ben Belgacem pays a visit to Orly Airport in Paris. He grabs a female soldier from behind and grapples for her rifle while holding a pellet gun to her head. He warns the other soldiers to drop their rifles and raise their hands.

He shouts, "I am here to die in the name of Allah ... There will be deaths."

...French Police go on to investigate the motive of the Tunisian Muslim settler. His father insists that he wasn’t a terrorist. The media rushes to blame drugs for his attack. It reports widely on the drugs in his system rather than the Koran found on his body. No one asks if he was on drugs or on Jihad.

...On Wednesday, Khalid Masood, a Muslim convert, rents a car in a town near Birmingham from an Enterprise rent-a-car shop sandwiched between a Staples and a beauty salon offering walk-in eyebrow waxing. Over a fifth of Birmingham is Muslim and by the time the bloodshed was over and Masood was in the hospital, police raided a flat over a restaurant advertising "A Taste of Persia"

...On Thursday, Mohammed, a Tunisian Muslim tries to drive a car through a pedestrian mall on a major shopping street in Antwerp. It was right around the anniversary of the Brussels bombings in which Moroccan Muslim settler terrorists had killed 32 people and wounded 300.

...British authorities claimed that they foiled a dozen terror attacks last year. There are arrests for terror plots in France and Germany. Every week there is either a terror plot or a memorial for the last terror attack before we are told to go on with our million acts of normalcy.

...Somewhere along the way it wasn’t life that became normal, but terror. And the insistence on normalcy just normalizes the terror. A week with three terror attacks across Europe is no longer extraordinary. We have come to expect that there will be men trying to stab and run us over from Paris to Antwerp to London. And we have come to expect another Islamic terror plot targeting Kansas City, Miami, Columbia, New York, San Bernardino, Boston, Tampa, Dallas, Rochester, Springfield and any city.

We don’t know when or where the next attack will come. But we know whom it will come from.
Unless we're really smart members of cognitive elite.

Iran to appeal seizure of 9/11 compensation money
[IsraelTimes] Iran’s central bank says Sunday it will appeal Luxembourg’s decision to freeze $1.6 billion of its assets, which the US is claiming as compensation for victims of the September 11, 2001, attacks.

The bank also says it will take steps to curb its remaining transactions in dollars, which it still receives particularly for oil sales.

In response to fresh US sanctions announced since last month, "Iran has sought to limit its dependence on the dollar... this policy will continue," the bank says in a statement published by state media.

A Luxembourg court last week denied Tehran’s request to retrieve the $1.6 billion frozen in the country during an earlier raft of sanctions targeting Iran’s nuclear program.

US lawyers are hoping to seize the money to pay off the families and estates of victims from the 2001 attacks, after a New York judge ruled Iran was partially responsible because it allowed al-Qaeda members to travel through its territory.

[AlAhram] Five gunnies were killed in an army raid in North Sinai including a leading member of Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, an Egyptian army front man announced on Sunday.

The army's statement did not name the Ansar Beit al-Maqdis leader or provide any further information on the gunnies killed. A picture was posted with the statement, showing what appears to be the body of a dead man with an assault rifle.

Ansar Beit al-Maqdis has grabbed credit for most of the attacks against security personnel and installations in North Sinai.

Afghan forces and civilians suffer casualties in Nangarhar attack
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A number of the Afghan cops and ordinary civilians suffered casualties during an attack on a security post in eastern Nangarhar

province late on Saturday evening.

The provincial government in a statement said the attack was carried out in the vicinity of Najmuddin Akhundzada roundabout located in Behsud district.

The statement further added that two non-combatants were killed in the attack along with two soldiers inside the security post.

Another soldier also sustained injuries in the attack, the provincial government added.

According to the local officials, the assailant Death Eaters also suffered casualties after the Afghan forces responded to their fire but the exact number has not been ascertained so far.

Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in eastern Afghanistan but the anti-government armed krazed killer groups have recently increased their insurgency activities in some parts of the province during the recent years.

This comes as the Afghan forces are busy conducting counter-insurgency operations in some of the restive districts of Nangarhar as part of the Shaheen-25 operations launched over a month ago.

Fall of Sangin
[DAWN] BY seizing the strategically located Sangin district, with a population of less than 100,000, Taliban holy warriors have gained control of more than 50 per cent of southern Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province. The town has literally been a major killing field for British, US and Afghan soldiers over the past 16 years of war in Afghanistan.

A vital supply route for security personnel stationed in the scenic provincial capital Lashkargah, Sangin has been the scene of brazen Taliban attacks for the last eight months or so. Straddling a scorched desert and a lush river valley that NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
commanders once described as a ’green zone’, Sangin fell to the Taliban as a result of a predawn assault on Thursday.

The ragtag Afghan forces -- fatigued, outgunned and short of ammunition and food -- took to their heels. As TV channels around the world screened images of audacious fighters marauding through the district centre and police headquarters, a patently clueless Ministry of Defence in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
characterised the security forces’ meek surrender of the major urban space as a tactical retreat.

Sangin’s collapse, which the US military has euphemistically called the repositioning of the district centre, represents the culmination of a ferocious offensive that has been deadlier than the battles for any of the country’s other 400 districts. Following the 2013 security transition from NATO to local forces, hundreds of Afghan soldiers and coppers have died defending the district.

After capturing Sangin, where the international fraternity has invested heavily, the Taliban are now better positioned to coordinate their operations in Helmand and Kandahar, the group’s spiritual base. Seen in this context, abandoning Sangin will turn out to be a costly mistake. Although the American-led coalition bombed the area to destroy strategic assets, the fighters were able to seize some of the vehicles, weapons and equipment abandoned by the soldiers.

#2  The US has not won a foreign war it led. As I recall we entered the European theater/et. al. late in the hostilities. Just as Russia was mobilizing and pushing back against the Germans.

I think the state of Japan was crushed by a technological marvel, diminishing resources and an overextended logistics chain, not battle superiority.

As you know fighting a war in someone else's land is logistically costly. Hundreds of billions spent, the level of the National Debt, and we still haven't crushed the enemy. Pretty much because we don't know who he is.

The amazing point I think is that we have managed to continue, albeit abated, as a functioning society even with this remarkable drain of resources.

One of the (many) questions I ask myself is how might those resources have been applied were we not trying to occupy a foreign continent, not trying to feed the world, not trying for total eradication of disease and not trying to educate primitives as an instrument of cultural suppression.

I'm afraid the answer is that we would simply buy more shiny 'Made in ....' discardable toys because the national manufacturing mandate will have been tooled for war machines.

Trump to sign order on Tuesday easing energy regulations
President Donald Trump will sign an order on Tuesday aimed at making it easier for companies to produce energy in the United States, administration officials said on Sunday, Reuters reported.

Under Trump, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is aiming to aggressively roll back Obama-era environmental regulations. Trump plans to sign the executive order at the EPA to reduce "unnecessary regulatory obstacles that restrict the responsible use of domestic energy resources," a White House official said.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt told ABC's "This Week" the order would help reverse the Obama administration's anti-fossil fuel strategy.
And for the obligatory slam:
Pruitt has publicly doubted the scientific consensus that human actions are the lead cause of climate change. His installation at the EPA last month reinforced the view on both sides of the political divide that America is ceding its position as a leader in the global fight on climate change.
Not so much ceding leadership as acknowledging that the so-called fight is a pointless waste of money and effort given the current state of knowledge.

Doubly pointless, considering the U.S. contributes only about 15% of the world's CO2 emissions. Even if we were to all lay down and die right this minute and become "carbon-neutral", ever-expanding energy production in China and India would make up for the consequent reduction in CO2 in a matter of months.

Arabia
Soddy airstrikes hit Houthi supplies in Hodeida
[Asharq Al-Awsat] Taiz- Saudi-led Arab Coalition air forces reported intensifying airstrikes over the last 24 hours, in an effort to back Yemeni pro-government army units in their offensive against militia posts in Yemen’s fourth-largest city, Hodeida.

Air raids targeted militia bastions in Khoukha, Ad Durayhimi, Al Wazi’iyah and Mawza districts.

Insurgency militias suffered great losses in personnel and artillery. It is worth noting that coalition air power took down arms warehouses and convoys.

Khoukha and the nearby city of Hodeidah are controlled by Iran-allied Houthi fighters who in 2014 overran Yemen’s capital Sanaa and forced the government of President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi out.

Coalition airstrikes took place as pro-government forces, composed of tribesman making up the popular resistance and national army units, made incremental advances near the western coastal area in al Mawza district.

Pro-government forces moved towards Khalid Bin Al Waleed military camp, which is currently controlled by putschists. Yemeni government forces backed by Arab troops recaptured control of the southern Red Sea city of Mokha last month in a push that paved the way for an advance on Hodeidah, the country’s main port city.

Yemen government forces backed by heavy air strikes from Saudi-led coalition fighter jets launched in January a massive military operation to drive out Iran-allied Houthi militants and forces loyal to ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh from the western coast to cut off supplies of arms to rebels from Iran. The last city to be liberated in Operation Golden Arrow is Hodeida.

Battles erupted in the western coastal area now witnesses increasing advances on behalf of government forces, with military officials confirming a nearing direct offensive to retake Hodeida port, city and governorate comprehensively.

“Government forces emphasize the importance of the western coastal area and Hodeida due to the great strategic, political and economic value they hold,” political analyst Bassim al Hakimi told Asharq Al-Awsat.

“Military missions are being staged under Arab coalition and Yemeni government cooperation, and are being managed from a common operating room,” Hakimi said when addressing the military operational function in Yemen today.

As for military strategy Hakimi said that multi-front advances are being sustained to clampdown on militia pockets spread in the governorate.

Ongoing battles and advances registered on behalf of pro-government forces present a critical advantage against coup militias. Progress recorded by pro-government forces will not be cut short to military pressure against Houthis but to also set a foot down against Houthis’ evasiveness and long-time exploitation of negotiations.

Several rounds of peace talks have ended in failure due to Houthis not committing to realizing a settlement as they eye full control and overthrowing the internationally recognized government of President Hadi.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
As Israeli forces go on high alert after Faqha killing, Hamas may be looking to avoid a war
[IsraelTimes] The liquidation of a key planner of West Bank terror attacks was meant to send a signal; now the ball is in Hamas's court.

Israeli forces near the Gazoo Strip have been placed on high alert, fearing retaliation from the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, terror group over the liquidation of one of its top military leaders in Gazoo on Friday night.

The alert was ordered Saturday by the IDF’s Southern Command.

Israel has not grabbed credit for the killing of Mazen Faqha, a former prisoner in Israel who oversaw Hamas’s efforts to instigate terror attacks in the West Bank, but Hamas leaders have lined up to blame Israel for the killing throughout Saturday.

Faqha, 38, was killed in an apparently professional hit job when he was shot near his home in the Tel Hawa neighborhood of Gazoo City with a handgun equipped with a silencer.

His father, who lives in the West Bank, told a Hamas TV station that Israeli intelligence officers had warned the family three times that his son’s terrorist activity was going to get him killed. "They said Mazen was carrying out attacks against Israel, and that Israel’s arm is long," he said.

Khalil al-Haya, a deputy to Yahya Sinwar, the new leader of Hamas in the Gazoo Strip, promised retaliation.

Yet, for all its rhetoric, Hamas has yet to show any firm evidence of Israeli involvement, a fact that may give the organization the political maneuvering room to avoid a dramatic response that could lead to a full-fledged confrontation.

Faqha is from the northern West Bank town of Tubas, where he was jugged
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
in 2002 for helping to plan suicide kabooms during the Second Intifada. He was released in October 2011 during the Shalit deal, after which he was expelled to Gazoo, where he and fellow West Banker Abd el-Rahman Ghanimat founded the "West Bank section" within the Gazoo-based group.

The section was composed of military wing members formerly from the West Bank who were expelled to Gazoo. Their task was to bolster Hamas infrastructures in the West Bank, including by means of terror attacks against Israelis. This included sending both funds and instructions to Hamas cells in Hebron, Tulkarem, Qalqilya and elsewhere in a bid to escalate violence and force new rounds of confrontation between Israel and the Paleostinians in the West Bank. Each area in the West Bank was served by a "regional commander" within the section who sat in Gazoo but was originally from the area in question.

According to Israeli intelligence, Faqha and Ghanimat’s "fingerprints" were on many attempted and successful terror attacks emanating from Hamas cells in the West Bank in recent years, a fact that suggests Israel had a clear interest in his removal.

The message: Nobody is safe
Faqha lived and traveled in Gazoo without bodyguards or other protection, and was assassinated near his beach-side home. If Israel did indeed carry out the liquidation, it may have intended to send a message that Hamas leaders’ apparent belief that they are safe during periods of quiet is incorrect.

It is likely that the entire leadership of the organization is now changing its daily routines, on the assumption that if Faqha could be killed, they are all potential targets. They will have to live surrounded by security, and occasionally changing homes and hideouts ‐ a return to the life that many Hamas leaders from the West Bank were forced to live a decade ago.

This was clearly the message of the killing: that everyone is a potential target.

But that’s doesn’t mean Israel’s alleged responsibility for the killing is obvious or indisputable. The assassins were highly professional, leaving no shred of evidence as to their identities. Indeed, this professionalism ‐ the silencer and the clean disappearance ‐ is the only real evidence pointing to Israeli intelligence agencies. Nothing more.

That lack of clarity means Hamas may decide it can be satisfied in the short term with the sort of threatening declamations issued by the group on Saturday, such as: "No more restraint" or "We won’t permit liquidations to go without a response."

Hamas’s decision on Saturday not to start shelling Israel in response, shows the group likely does not actually want a war with Israel at this time.

None of this is to suggest the group will refrain from responding to the liquidation in due time. Its new Gazoo chief, Yahya Sinwar, is known as a dangerous, unpredictable and uninhibited commander. He may prefer to wait for a moment when Israel will be caught by surprise, and to launch the sorts of operations seen in the past, such as kidnappings or, in a throwback to the previous decade, suicide kabooms.

If Hamas launches such attacks, it will likely also attempt to do so without leaving evidence of its involvement, in order to give Israeli leaders the political space to avoid all-out war while still signaling that continued liquidations will be met with painful retaliation.

As one Hamas official said Saturday, Israel was "trying to force a new model of a clandestine war on Hamas, as it has failed in the open war model." He said Hamas would know how to respond to such tactics.

China-Japan-Koreas
N.Korea Doubles Size of Uranium Facility
North Korea has doubled the size of a facility for enriching uranium in recent years, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency told the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.

Yukiya Amano said the North is "rapidly advancing its capacity to produce nuclear weapons on two fronts: the production of plutonium at its Yongbyon nuclear facility and the enrichment of uranium. The situation is very bad... It has gone into a new phase."

Since IAEA inspectors were expelled in 2009, the IAEA has kept monitoring the pace of the regime's nuclear development based on satellite images of its nuclear facilities and other information. Analysis of satellite images led to the conclusion that the size of the Yongbyon nuclear facility, which is also believed to be used to enrich uranium, has doubled since 2009.

"All of the indications point to the fact that North Korea is making progress, as they declared," Amano added.

... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, in the latest rampage to steal food and medical supplies, as fears grew of more attacks, locals and security personnel said on Sunday.

Scores of fighters loyal to the faction headed by Abu Musab al-Barnawi stormed Sabon Garin Kimba, some 140 kilometres (88 miles) southwest of the Borno state capital Maiduguri.

They were dressed in military uniform and arrived in a pick-up in Nigerian army colours at about 6:00 pm (1700 GMT) on Friday,
...an interesting detail....
according to the civilian militia assisting troops.

The raid is significant as no non-combatants were killed or injured.

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group last year announced Barnawi was in charge of Boko Haram instead of its long-time leader Abubakar Shekau
... the lunatic leader of Boko Haram who has been reported dead at least eleven times, pledged his body and soul to ISIS, told his fighters to hang it up once or twice, and been fire by the Caliph and refused to step down ...
. Barnawi has criticised Shekau's indiscriminate violence against civilians.

Militia member Mustapha Karimbe, who visited the village on Saturday, said: "The attackers took away food items and medical supplies from shops and a pharmacy but they didn't harm anyone.

"They kept telling residents they were from the Barnawi faction and would not harm anyone as long as no-one got in their way."
Another interesting detail. Trying to make the waters they must swim in less hostile? But in a subsistance economy, taking someone's supplies is just a slower way to kill them...
Karimbe's account was supported by another member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) militia, Suleiman Musa.

A CJTF member in Maiduguri told AFP last week that co-ordinated military action by Nigeria and its neighbours had cut off the Islamist krazed killers' food and fuel supply lines.

Militants from both Boko Haram camps have in recent weeks intensified raids on villages and towns in the region in search of food.

On Sunday, residents in the town of Magumeri, some 50 kilometres northwest of Maiduguri, said Boko Haram fighters were mobilising in nearby villages.

"The fighters have been mobilising since yesterday (Saturday) and we don't know where they intend to strike," said one local resident, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals.

"There is so much fear among people in the area because the Boko Haram fighters are definitely up to something," said another.

Boko Haram attacked Magumeri on March 15, looting food supplies and burning homes after overwhelming troops.
The traditional approach. The same group or the other one?
The apparent build-up comes as Nigeria's military holds a shooting competition in Borno state's Sambisa Forest, which until December last year was the main base of Shekau's faction.

Nigeria's chief of army staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, and other senior military officers were expected to attend the small arms championship.

There have been sporadic attacks in and around the Sambisa Forest area against people and traffic.

On March 1, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said Boko Haram attacks had forced some 7,000 people to flee villages around the town of Chibok in less than a week.

On Saturday, Buratai said the shooting competition would enable Nigerian troops to "continue to dominate the area" as well as hone soldiers' marksmanship skills.

New details reveal stealthy, professional hit on Hamas terror leader
[IsraelTimes] Killers reportedly lay in wait for hours in Mazen Faqha’s garage, acted so quietly family nearby didn’t know what had happened for hours

The gunnies who killed Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, military leader Mazen Faqha Friday night had broken into his garage, and lain in wait for hours, before carrying out the liquidation, which left no trace but the dead body, a Paleostinian daily reported on Sunday.

According to the report in Al Quds, Faqha, a former prisoner in Israel who oversaw Hamas’s efforts to instigate terror attacks in the West Bank, drove home around 6 p.m., with his wife and daughter in the car.

German police warned Anis Amri was planning a suicide attack nine months before Berlin Christmas market massacre
[TELEGRAPH.CO.UK] Police in Germany knew Anis Amri was planning a suicide kaboom nine months before he drove a lorry into a packed Christmas market in Berlin last December, killing 12 people, it has emerged.

The German equivalent of CID warned in a confidential memo to regional authorities last March, that it has intercepted communications indicating Amri was planning a suicide attack, and recommended he be deported.

But the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia ruled that an order to expel him was not legally enforcable.
Change the law, you idiots, or look back on the conquest you enabled.
The new disclosures will add to questions over why Amri was allowed to remain in Germany and move freely around the country even though he was known to be a threat.
Not just him, but the many others who for years have been expelled on paper only.
They come after Uwe Jacob, head of the North Rhine-Westphalia Landeskriminalamt, the regional CID, admitted him and his staff suspected Amri was behind the Berlin attack the moment they heard of it.

"Our immediate reaction was please don’t let it be Amri," Mr Jacob told a parliamentary inquiry on Friday.

Bild am Sonntag newspaper on Sunday published excerpts from an eight-page memo in which Mr Jacob’s office detailed the evidence Amri could be planning a suicide attack.

It included an intercepted internet chat in which Amri told a contact he wanted to marry a "sister" in Germany, which the memo states is a known code for suicide attacks among jihadists.

When his contact did not understand, Amri used the term "Dougma", another code for suicide attacks.

The memo recommends Amri’s immediate deportation, saying this is "proportionate" to the danger.

But at the time Amri’s application for asylum in Germany was still being considered, and the authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia, where he was registered, ruled he could not be deported.

His claim was eventually rejected in June, but even then attempts to deport him ran into trouble because he had no valid indentity papers and his native Tunisia was disputing his nationality.

Two suspected militants killed by Indian forces in held Kashmir
[DAWN] Two suspected murderous Moslems were killed in an ambush by the Indian army and police in Awantipora, Pulwama district in the India-held Kashmire on Sunday, reports said.

The suspects were identified as Rayees Ahmad Wani and Farooq Ahmad Hurra, affiliated with the bully boy Hizbul Mujahideen group operating in the India-held Kashmire.

Hurra and Wani were residents of Shopian and Pulwama districts and had joined the bully boy group in April and June of 2016, respectively.

Reports said that a joint party of Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmire Police and 55 Rashtriya Rifles ambushed the southern part of Pulwama district after receiving a tip-off about two suspected murderous Moslems travelling in a car.

As soon as the car reached the barricade, "murderous Moslems opened fire, which was retaliated", an Indian official told Srinagar-based media, adding, "in the ensuing shootout, both were killed."

Witnesses said that police and paramilitary forces resorted to teargas shells to disperse people who had gathered near the Awantipora cop shoppe to demand the bodies of the slain suspected bully boys.

The protesters retaliated by throwing stones, triggering festivities between the two sides.

The bodies were later handed over to the next of the kin of the slain men.

Three million new migrants may come to Turkey from Iran
A fresh migration wave with three million migrants is currently in the phase of mobilization from Iran to Turkey, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak said March 26.
They should stay there and not move to either Munich or Los Angeles...
“According to information we got, there are around three million unauthorized migrants in Iran and they are in mobilization toward Turkey. Unfortunately, they are mostly Afghans again from the further east of Iran,” Kaynak said in an interview with private broadcaster CNN Türk.

Kaynak also expressed Ankara’s concern over Tehran’s indifference for the migration to Turkey.

“We have such worry that it is like the Iranian state is disregarding their migration toward Turkey, not to say that they are assisting them,” he said.

Kaynak said Turkish authorities also launched proceedings on a total of 30,000 migrants who attempted to illegally cross into the country from the border provinces of Iğdır and Ağrı just in 2016. He also noted that migrants want to come to Turkey to use it as a transit point rather than stay in the country.
Welfare is better in Germany...
“Europe and the world should think about it. They want to come to Turkey as a transit point and they do not want to stay in Turkey. They want to cross into the west and for them, Turkey is an important barrier and is enduring an important cost,” Kaynak said.

Some 3,000 unauthorized migrants came through Iran to Turkey in 2017 to border provinces of Ağrı and Iğır, according to information from security forces and the governors.

Egypt court sentences 56 people to prison over migrant boat mass drowning
[AlAhram] An Egypt misdemeanour court handed on Sunday jail sentences to 56 people over a 2016 migrant boat capsizing disaster off Egypt's Mediterranean coast that left around 200 people dead.

A Rosetta court in the northern Beheira province handed sentences ranging from two to 13 years to the convicted and acquitted one woman.

The convicted were found guilty of manslaughter, negligence, endangering lives, using a vessel without a license and not using adequate rescue equipment.

The defendants can still appeal their sentences.

The migrant boat, which was carrying several hundred migrants colonists of different nationalities, sailed from Egypt's Mediterranean port city of Rosetta and was heading to Italia before it capsized 12 kilometres off the Egyptian coast. The accident was one of the deadliest incidents involving migrants colonists attempting a journey to Europe for better opportunities and living standards.

In recent years, thousands of migrants colonists and refugees from a variety of countries have attempted to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe, with an increasing number departing via smugglers' boats from Egypt's northern coast.

In November, Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi ratified a law aimed at curbing irregular migration and cracking down on human smuggling. While the legislation does not punish the migrants colonists themselves, it imposes jail terms on those convicted of smuggling migrants colonists or acting as brokers or controllers.

Witches To Cast Spell On Trump -- Again!
[WND] Among the angry liberals who refuse to accept the 2016 presidential election results that put Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
in the Oval Office are witches who will be gathering at midnight on Sunday to cast spells.

Again.

They already tried last month to conjure up magic to remove him from office.
Maybe that's why the ObamaCare repeal failed?
Witches, exorcists and occultists say they again will cast a "binding spell" designed to "bind Donald Trump and all who abet him."

Anti-Trump occultists performed the "mass spell" against the president last month under the hashtag #BindTrump. Witches nationwide shared photos and videos on Twitter of them placing their hex on Trump.

They say they will repeat the ritual on March 26 and on every crescent moon "until Donald Trump is removed from office," according to the group’s Facebook page.

Turkey Summons Swiss Envoy over Kurdish Rally
[AnNahar] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
summoned the Swiss ambassador on Sunday to protest at a Kurdish rally in Bern which Ankara dubbed a "terrorist gathering", a diplomatic source said.

"Walter Haffner has been summoned to our (foreign) ministry where he has been made aware of our displeasure... The ambassador has been told those responsible must face justice," the source said.

Several thousand people attended Saturday's rally called by Kurdish associations and Swiss political parties in Bern.

Ankara believes the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which Turkey dubs a terrorist group, was behind the rally where some people brandished a banner showing a gun pointing at President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
's head alongside the words "Kill Erdogan".

Erdogan criticized the Swiss for hosting the event, warning that "you will reap what you have sown."

The Turkish leader has been angered by the refusal of several European states to allow Turkish ministers to campaign on the continent for a 'yes' vote in next month's referendum on expanding his powers.

Iraq
Baghdad Bomb and Bullet Bulletin

1 dead in bombing attack in Hoor al-Basha

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A bomb explosion killed one civilian and wounded three others in a northern Baghdad district on Sunday, police sources were quoted saying.

An explosive device exploded near a grocery in Hoor al-Basha, north of Baghdad, killing one and wounding three, according to the sources.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) says violence in the country left nearly 392 dead and 613 injured, excluding security members, during February. Baghdad was the second most affected province with 120 deaths and 300 injuries, according to the organization’s monthly casualty count. It excludes death toll among security members after Iraqi authorities had asked to get such information exclusively from security commands.

While several blasts are not followed by a claim of responsibility, Islamic State militants said they had been behind some bloody explosions and attacks that hit the capital in the past months, leaving casualties among civilians and security troops.

Some observers believe Islamic State have begun to escalate attacks outside the city of Mosul, where the group has been losing ground and personnel since October, so as to relieve pressure by government forces on that front and to divert attention from group losses. They are concerned that the group could, however, shift to a guerilla-style war and lone wolf attacks after the recapture of Mosul.

He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group.

According to the local officials, the incident took place in the restive Darzab district and the victims were all ordinary civilians.

Provincial police chief Abdul Hafiz Khashi confirmed the incident but rejected the allegations against the victims.

He said the three civilians had no links or cooperation with any government or security institution as claimed by the ISIS loyalists.

The security situation in northern Jawzjan has sharply deteriorated during the recent months as the loyalists of ISIS terrorist group have expanded their operations in some remote districts of the province.

At least ten coppers and a woman were killed in an attack carried out by the ISIS Lions of Islam in this province last month.

Earlier, the ISIS Lions of Islam killed at least six workers of the International Committee of the Red Thingy and kidnapped two others.

There are still no reports regarding the whereabouts and fate of the kidnapped ICRC workers despite the international aid organization issued a statement urging the Lions of Islam to release the hostages.

Germany announces apology plans for colonization in Namibia
[The Local de] Germany has proposed a German-Namibian future foundation and structural fund as part of its atonement for the injustices of the German colonization of southwest Africa.

The fund would promote energy, education and housing projects as well as a land reform in Namibia, the Sächsiche Zeitung reported this week.

Germany’s Namibia Commissioner, Ruprecht Polenz (CDU), announced the atonement plans on Monday evening during a discussion with journalists in Berlin.

The fund would be accompanied by an official apology from Germany for the colonial crimes against the Herero and Nama peoples during the German colonial period.

"The question is only in what form the apology takes place so that it can also be accepted by the Namibian government," said Polenz.

Berlin ruled what was then called South West Africa as a colony from 1884 to 1915.

Incensed by German settlers stealing their land and cattle and taking their women, the Herero people launched a revolt in January 1904 with warriors butchering 123 German civilians over several days. The Nama tribe joined the uprising in 1905.

The colonial rulers responded ruthlessly and General Lothar von Trotha signed a notorious extermination order against the Hereros.

Judge OK’s Petition for America’s First ‘Genderless’ Person
A Portland student has become the first American to gain legal designation as "genderless", following a ruling by a Multnomah County judge.

The March 10 decision, reported for the first time on Thursday, involved a 27-year-old who was born male but claimed to identify with no gender whatsoever. Judge Amy Holmes, who approved the petition, also last year approved a "non-binary" gender designation for another Portland resident.

The 27-year-old formerly known as Patrick Abbatiello, now legally designated agender, also got legal approval to change names, now going only by "Patch," no surname. That name also serves as a pronoun, Patch explained to the local NBC affiliate this week.

"Even gender-neutral pronouns don’t feel as if they fit me," Patch said. "I feel no identity or closeness with any pronouns I’ve come across. What describes me is my name."

By deadline, Patch did not respond to requests for interview sent by phone and Facebook through Portland Community College’s Queer Resource Center. Patch works there as a co-coordinator, and a Facebook post for the center lauded the student for "blazing the way."

In 2014, FB had 58 genders FB Gender's list. but the gender activists claim gender is non-binary and on a spectrum which is fluid. Agender would probably bring the number to 59. National Geographic had a informative/comprehensive article on the gender revolution (Jan. 2017).

India-Pakistan
A dangerous trajectory
[DAWN] A POSITIVE gesture or statement changes little if not supported with affirmatory, concerted action. The prime minister’s participation in the Hindu festival of Holi reflects his approach towards non-Moslem communities in Pakistain. His statement that the country came into being to stop religious confrontation was widely appreciated.

A week before his Holi speech in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, the prime minister addressed a ceremony at the Jamia Naeemia, Lahore, where he stressed upon religious scholars’ need to develop counter-narratives against the terrorists’ ideology. Apparently, these statements are not contradictory, except that one was delivered in Karachi and the other in Lahore.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Connecticut's Next Bag Tax
Shaw is straight up wrong about this. Plastic bag bans and taxes shouldn't even be permitted by government. Concerned about the environment? Stop using them. Don't get the 800 pound bully involved.
If you’re used to grabbing your purchases at the store by the handles of a plastic shopping bag and you live in Connecticut, get ready for a change. If all goes as planned, by sometime this fall you will probably either be figuring out a different way to cart your groceries home or you’ll be paying a bit more. Taking after the schemes enacted in California and other locations, the state is preparing to save the environment by taxing the use of plastic bags.

I’m not here to defend the premise that plastic grocery bags are a great idea. We haven’t used them in years in our house. We have a set of those cloth bags with handles which you can keep using for a very long time. We make an exception every month or two and ask for paper bags because I use those for packing up the paper recycling, but otherwise it’s all cloth for us.

But what Connecticut is doing is yet another exercise in the government pretending they can modify human behavior through tax policy and it stinks. They know full well that the average family that gets four or five bags of groceries per week is probably going to just pony up the extra quarter on shopping day rather than be bothered with all this nonsense. And Connecticut’s elected officials are pretty much admitting that, saying that it will be a “steady revenue stream.”

Why not stop being hypocrites? If you truly think that plastic bags are an evil which should be removed from civilized realms (and there’s definitely an argument for that idea) then just ban them rather than cashing in on the game. Several states and cities have already done it. The National Conference of State Legislatures provides a list of places where various bag restrictions are either already in place or being considered. California and Hawaii have pretty much banned them entirely, along with several large cities including Chicago and Seattle. Allowing the use of the evil bags to continue flourishing while the government pockets tens of millions of dollars per year (by their own estimates) is simply hypocrisy.

But even if I’m not a fan of plastic bags, is banning them at all really the answer? Even assuming you want the government micromanaging your life and the free market that much, possibly not. This think piece at Wired from last year poses the question of what you’ll be replacing them with after the ban.
I prefer plastic bags. They are lightweight, strong and physically take up very little room at home. They have the advantage of allowing shifing bulk in way paper bags can never do.They are dual use items for hauling groceries and as trash bags, as well as general packaging items. The grocery store I use offers paper bags at the manned checkout stands, and plastic bags at the automated checkout, the second of which I use all the time. And when those checkouts are closed, I do have the option of requesting plastic bags.
Those who use and advocate reusable grocery bags had better also be advocating that the things be washed after every use. Studies have demonstrated that reusable bags are a breeding ground for all sorts of undesirable bacteria, and thus are a health risk for the households using them unless chemicals, energy, and water are spent to keep them sanitary. When those costs are added to the cost of manufacturing the things, I suspect the net impact to the environment compared to plastic bags, reused in all sorts of ways, will be the same or considerably worse.

#3  Dallas, TX levied 5 cents a bag for a while but the citizens teamed up with the bag manufacturers and started preparing a law suit. The city council quickly rescinded the tax.

#4  to prevent disease from reusable bags the govt will eventually

- mandate washing them every other week
- mandate devices in the bags that light up if they haven't been washed (this should bring the price of the bag up to $20/per)
- fines up to $50 for using a reusable bag that hasn't been washed on time

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian rebels continue offensive in Hama
Beirut – Syrian rebel leaders displayed great content over succeeding with relaying its political views in keep with the ongoing Geneva peace negotiations, all despite having lost grounds in the eastern Damascus to pro-regime forces.

Syrian rebels continue to push their political demands in the face of a brutal and unprecedented military campaign led by Russian forces to curb an offensive launched by Syrian opposition factions in Hama.

Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat a rebel leader explained that the offensives and fierce battles staged and fought were to serve a political advantage in making a point that the Syrian revolution and rebels still have a counter military capacity to strike the authoritarian regime at heart.

Rebel groups launched the attack on Tuesday and have captured at least 11 villages and towns.

In previous peace talks, the table was tilted to favor the regime’s viewpoint in proportions with an assumed strong military standing.

On battleground developments, the Syrian Human Rights Observatory reported that rebel factions have withdrew Damascus outskirts and its eastern posts as a result of the intense impounding and clampdown of pro-regime aerial forces.

Forces backing head of Syrian regime Bashar al Assad had targeted areas previously taken by rebel forces in the Jobar and al-Qaboun neighborhoods which include textile and spinning factories.

At least 16 civilians were killed and dozens wounded on Saturday in an air strike on a rebel-held area outside Damascus, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said. Regime air support targeted on Friday rebels supply routes in Eastern Ghouta and Jobar.

Jobar in the east of Damascus has been a battleground for more than two years, with regime forces seeking to push rebels out because of the neighborhood’s proximity to the heart of the capital.

Syrian regime troops on Friday regained control over all points taken by rebels in a surprise offensive launched late last week in the east of the capital Damascus, state media said. The rebel’s assault involved armed factions such as Faylaq al-Rahman group, as well as Fateh al-Sham Front.

State television showed a reporter greeting cheering soldiers near Abbasid Square, which had been emptied of its usual traffic at the beginning of the rebel assault on Sunday.

Footage showed burned out cars in the streets and a building with a hole blasted through its side.

The surprise attack, which sparked heavy fighting and shelling, was launched from the Jobar neighborhood, where control is divided between rebels and regime forces.

The assault was intended to assist allied rebel fighters in the nearby districts of Barzeh, Tishreen and Qabun, as they came under regime attack, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said.

It said it was not immediately clear who was responsible for the strike on the town Hammuriyeh in the opposition bastion of Eastern Ghouta, which has been targeted by both the government and its ally Russia in the past.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Shaffer: Trump Wiretap Case 'Worse Than Watergate'
[INSIDER.FOXNEWS] Former CIA officer Col. Tony Shaffer said the basics of President Trump's claim to have been "wiretapped" are likely true, and that the incident is "worse than Watergate."

Noting it has been exactly two weeks since Trump tweeted that President B.O. wiretapped his namesake tower, Shaffer said the "basic fundamental idea and claim is true."

He said that Trump was not physically wiretapped, with a wire into his phone, and it may not have physically been Trump Tower, but his campaign apparatus instead.

Shaffer said that due to the simplicity required to "mask" an American's name during an incidental wiretap, that the leak of Gen. Michael Flynn's name was "accidental on purpose."

"Clearly they were after gossip because it was political," Shaffer said, maintaining that the alleged wiretap had nothing to do with Russia.

The "political appointees" in the intelligence community knew exactly what they were surveilling for, Shaffer said, adding that the case is "much worse than Watergate by an order of magnitude."

He said that even if the surveillance was done legally, the "unmasking" of Americans' names and the leaking of the information are felones.

Shaffer added that Trump's references to battling the "intelligence community" likely meant those political appointees involved in the alleged surveillance, and not the CIA or NSA writ large.

Malaysian police reportedly enter North Korean Embassy
The Malaysian police on Sunday entered the North Korean Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in connection with last month’s murder of Kim Jong Nam, the estranged half-brother of North Korea leader Kim Jong Un, according to a Malaysian Chinese-language newspaper.

Four police officers, including the investigating officer of the murder, the Selangor state police chief and Selangor prosecution team officer, entered the embassy in the morning and were there for two and a half hours, China Press said, adding they were granted permission by the embassy to enter.

The entry indicates that a preliminary agreement may have been reached on processing the body of Kim Jong Nam, and on the recording of statements of three suspected accomplices in the murder believed to be hiding in the embassy, according to the report. One of the three is Hyon Kwang Song, 44, the second secretary of the embassy.

India to seal border with Pakistan, Bangladesh
[DAWN] Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said India plans to seal international borders with Pakistain and Bangladesh soon.

"India is planning to seal the international boundaries with Pakistain and Bangladesh as soon as possible. This could be India’s major step against terrorism and the problem of refugees," Singh said while addressing the passing out parade of the Border Security Force Assistant Commandants at the BSF Academy in Madhya Pradesh’s Tekanpur area.

The home minister assured that the border with Pakistain would be sealed by 2018. The decision has been taken in the wake of an increase in infiltration attempts, he said.

"The project will be periodically monitored by the Home Secretary at the central level, the BSF from the security forces’ perspective and the chief secretaries at the state-level," Singh said, adding that the government would apply technological solutions for sealing the border in difficult terrains.

Lauding the BSF personnel, the home minister stated that the force has changed the rules of engagement at international borders which have made it a known entity in the neighbouring countries.

"The BSF has changed rules of engagement at international borders. Now, the BSF is a known entity even in neighbouring countries," Singh said.

He also spoke about the planning for an effective grievances redressal mechanism in the forces which will be implemented soon.

Pakistan starts building fence along Afghan border
All the kewl kids are doing it nowadays.
[Ynet] Pakistain says it has started building a fence along the Afghan border in areas where it says murderous Moslems have launched cross-border attacks on security posts in recent weeks.

Building a fence along the disputed border could further heighten tensions between the two countries, which have long accused each other of turning a blind eye to Islamic murderous Moslems operating along the porous frontier.

Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, the head of Pakistain's armed forces, announced the construction of fencing in "high threat zones" Saturday during a visit to tribal regions along the border, saying it was in the interest of both countries.

4 civilians die in ISIS artillery attack

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) At least 19 civilians were killed and wounded on Sunday when Islamic State militants reportedly shelled areas recaptured by security forces in eastern Mosul, with mortar rounds.

Iraqi news websites said militants shelled the Nabi Yunus area in eastern Mosul with mortar missiles, killing at least four and wounding 15 others. The reports added that the attack destroyed five commercial stores in the area.

Nabi Yunus district, eastern Mosul.
Iraqi government forces recaptured eastern Mosul in January after three months of fighting to retake the city which fell to Islamic State militants in 2014. Many fighters fled to the western strongholds and some died en route. Since then, IS launched several attacks on the recaptured areas in the east, killing several civilians and security members. The attacks were carried out with drones, suicide bombings and mortar bombardments.

Iraqi forces are currently struggling to retake western Mosul in a campaign that started in February. Recent reports said hundreds of civilians died in airstrikes by the U.S.-led coalition fighting IS alongside the Iraqi troops. The Iraqi command accuses US of causing civilian casualties by taking them as human shields and booby-trapping their property.

The conflict in western Mosul has so far displaced more than 200.000 civilians.

61 dead found in Mosul mosque

Mosul (Reuters) Iraq’s military said on Sunday that 61 bodies were recovered from a collapsed building that Islamic State had booby-trapped in west Mosul, but there was no sign the building had been hit by a coalition air strike.

The military statement differed from reports by witnesses and local officials that said as many as 200 bodies had been pulled from the building after a coalition strike last week targeted IS militants and equipment in the Jadida district.

What happened on March 17 remains unclear and details are difficult to confirm as Iraqi forces battle with Islamic State to recapture the densely populated parts of the western half of Mosul, the militant group’s last stronghold in Iraq.

Iraqi forces on Sunday hit militant positions with helicopter strikes, and exchanged heavy gunfire and rockets around al Nuri mosque in west Mosul, where the Islamic State leader declared his caliphate nearly three years ago.

One federal police officer said they had killed a militant in a suicide vest trying to infiltrate their position, and exchanged fire with two other fighters.

At the north edge of Mosul, Iraqi army divisions raided and entered the Badush cement factory, to where militants had retreated, Lt. Col. Ali Jassem of the 9th armored division said. Army units are clearing villages to the north.

As combat continues, the Jadida incident highlights the complexity of fighting in west Mosul, where militants hide among families, using them as shields and putting at risk as many as half a million people still caught in Islamic State-held areas.

Thousands have already fled Mosul and coalition officials and Iraq’s Shi’ite-led government are wary of incidents that could alienate residents of the mainly Sunni city and fuel the kind of sectarian tensions that helped Islamic State’s rise.

The U.S.-led coalition backing Iraqi forces on Saturday said it carried out a strike on Islamic State militants and equipment in the area of the reported deaths, and was investigating. It did not give figures for any casualties or details of targets.

The Iraqi military command said witnesses had told troops that the building was booby-trapped and militants had forced residents inside basements to use them as shields. IS militants had also fired on troops from houses, it said.

“A team of military experts from field commanders checked the building where the media reported that the house was completely destroyed. All walls were booby-trapped and there is no hole that indicates an air strike,” it said.

“Sixty-one bodies were evacuated,” the statement said.

A coalition air strike had hit the area at the time though there was no sign it struck that building, it said.

ISIS captures kidz for use as human shields

Mosul (BasNews) The Islamic State (IS) militants have reportedly taken nearly 200 children hostage in west Mosul in order to use them as human shields to resist the Iraqi forces’ advance on the IS-held areas in the city.

The Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights reported that 197 children have been taken hostage by the IS militants near al-Nouri Grand Mosque in west Mosul where the Iraqi troops have closed in on the militant group.

The source said the militants intend to use the children as human shields to impede the advance of the Iraqi troops.

Due to the increasing number of civilian casualties, the Iraqi security forces suspended the military operations to retake western Mosul.

The Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights in a statement on Saturday revealed that since the beginning of the operation on western part of Mosul, around 4000 civilians have died due to the ongoing fight between the Iraqi forces and IS extremists.

province of Afghanistan.

The provincial police commandment said a number of the foreign bandidos myrmidons were also among those killed.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) earlier said the Arclight airstrikes were carried out in the vicinity of Kot district which was one of the main strongholds of the terror group.

The statement further added that several weapons belonging to the terror group’s bully boyz were also destroyed in the Arclight airstrikes.

According to MoI, the bully boyz were targeted in Sahiba, Mullah Badur, and Chinar areas of the district.

No further details were given regarding the party involved in the raid but the majority of such Arclight airstrikes are conducted by the US forces based in Afghanistan.

This comes as the 201st Silab Corps of the Afghan National Army said Saturday that 22 ISIS bully boyz including two of their commanders were killed in a similar Arclight airstrikes in Nazian district on Friday.

Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in eastern Afghanistan but the anti-government armed bully boyz have recently increased their insurgency activities in some parts of the province during the recent years.

The bully boyz affiliated with the ISIS terrorist group started their operations from Nangarhar nearly three years.

Mosul Offensive News

Top Arab ISIS Turbans die in Mosul airstrike

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi air forces hit Islamic State locations in western Mosul on Sunday, killing a number of leaders, mostly Arabs, as operations continue to clear the region from militants.

In a statement on Sunday, the air force mentioned that depending on information from the military intelligence department, the aircraft destroyed a site for IS leaders, killing most of them including Abdullah al-Hayyaf, a Saudi national, Khaled Mohamed Hazzaa al-Shemary, a Saudi national, and Abdel Rahman Mohamed Murad, Iraqi Broadcasting Networks reported.

Mosul is the Islamic State’s last stronghold in Iraq. Eastern Mosul and about half of the west were recaptured from IS in January, after a US-backed offensive was launched in October. A new offensive started in February to retake the west. The government troops have recently pushed deeper into the Old City, a densely-populated and -structured area which military officials view as central to the desired victory over IS militants.

Battles in the west are believed to be much more difficult due to the density of residential areas and the high number of civilians who the commanders believe are used as human shields by IS members.

ISIS bomb expert dies in explosion in western Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A prominent booby trapping expert with the Islamic State has been killed along with four of his assistants in Tal Afar district, a strategic IS stronghold in western Mosul, a local source from Nineveh province said on Sunday.

The explosion took place in a residential building while attempting to booby trap it, the source added.

Alsumaria News quoted the source as saying, “Abu Hamza al-Tounsy, a prominent explosive expert with IS, was killed along with four of his aides in a two-storey residential building on the boundaries of Tal Afar, west of Mosul, while booby trapping it.”

“Tounsy has become famous over the past few months being one of the experts of booby trapping buildings and houses,” the source said, adding that “he came from Raqqa, Syria, in support of IS efforts in booby trapping.”

Pro-government militias, al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) have been recapturing areas around Tal Afar from IS. The Shi’ite militias taking part in the Mosul campaign began to close in on Tal Afar late last year, after the offensive was launched.

Mosul is the Islamic State’s last stronghold in Iraq. Eastern Mosul was recaptured from IS in January. The forces recently regained control over strategic areas in the western region after a US-backed offensive was launched in October. A new offensive started in February to retake the west. The government troops have recently pushed deeper into the Old City, a densely-populated and -structured area which military officials view as central to the desired victory over IS militants.

Iraqi forces capture cement plant in western Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Ministry of Defense’s War Media Cell announced on Sunday, that security forces managed to liberate Badush Cement Plant, in western Mosul.

Commander of Operations, Lieutenant General Abdel Amir Yarallah, said in a press statement that troops of the army’s 9th armored brigade fully liberated Badush Cement Plant, in western the city of Mosul.

Security forces also raised Iraqi flag over the building of the plant, after inflicting heavy human and material losses on the enemy, Yarallah added.

Earlier this month, CTS Officer, Major Ali Mohsen, said that the Islamic State group set Badush Cement Factory ablaze, after looting its contents.

Joint security forces continue advancing into western Mosul, where they liberated a number of areas, today, including al-Orouba neighborhood, the industrial area, Wadi Ayn neighborhood and Rajm al-Hadid area.

14 ISIS Turbans die in airstrike near Serg-Khana region

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi fighter jets killed 14 Islamic State members on Sunday when they pounded their training camp in an area west of Mosul, according to military media.

The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said the strikes targeted an IS training camp in Serg-Khana region. Among those killed was Abu Thabet al-Ansari, a senior area commander within IS in western Mosul.

Iraqi government troops, backed by air forces from the U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary troops, have been struggling to clear western Mosul from Islamic State militants since operations launched on February to recapture that region in February. Troops took over the eastern part of the city in January.

Airstrikes by the international coalition have been blamed over the past week for hundreds of civilian casualties, but the Iraqi command has also accused Islamic State of using civilians as human shields and fabricating reports of civilian casualties to tarnish the security campaign against the group.

Iraqi troops have been pressing on central Mosul’s Old City, a strategic target which commanders believe could put the scale of battles in their favor if recaptured.

The conflict in Mosul has so far displaced 433.000 since the launch of the campaign against IS in October. More than 200.000 were displaced in the western region alone since February.

Iraqi forces capture Badush dam

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Commander of We Are Coming, Nineveh Operations Command, Lieutenant General Abdel Amir Yarallah, announced on Sunday liberating Badush Dam, in western Mosul, and raising Iraqi flag over it.

Yarallah said in a brief statement that troops of the army’s 9th armored brigade liberated Badush Dam, and raised Iraqi flag over it, after inflicting heavy human and material losses on the enemy.

Earlier today, ‘We Are Coming, Nineveh’ Operations Command announced liberating Badush Cement Plant, al-Orouba neighborhood and the industrial area, in western Mosul.

Meanwhile, joint security forces, backed by the Army Aviation, Iraqi Air Force and US-led coalition air force, continue their extensive military operations to liberate the western side of the city of Mosul, as well as driving out the Islamic State group.

Iraqi militias evacuate 450 families from western Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Pro-government militias of Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi troops evacuated on Sunday 450 families from the town of Adaya, western Mosul.

The troops, in collaboration with their security forces, were able evacuate the families and transfer them to safe places.

According to the Iraqi government, 433.000 persons were displaced since operations against Islamic State were launched in October to retake Mosul.

More than 200.000 people were displaced from the western part of the city since operations started in February to retake that region, the Ministry of Migration and Displacement said Sunday.

At least 400.000 civilians are expected by the United Nations to be displaced due to operations in Mosul. In October, upon the launch of Mosul battles in October, UN said that a total of 1.5 million could leave homes.

Consisting of 66 militia groups, al-Hashd al-Shaabi, also known as Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) is considered one of the largest militias in Iraq. It was established in 2014 by a fatwa (religious edict) to fight the Islamic State.

In late 2016, the Iraqi parliament recognized the militia as a national armed force.

However, Kurdish MP Arafat Karam told Bas News on Saturday that the US administration urged Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi to dissolve the Shi’ite militia.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Taqba airbase Saga
Syrian rebels launch attack on Taqba Airbase

[ARA News] The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (ISIS) on Sunday launched an offensive on the ISIS-held Tabqa Airbase in Raqqa countryside, in northeastern Syria.

Backed by the US-led coalition, the SDF troops targeted ISIS positions inside the airbase with heavy artillery shelling.

“The bombardment forced a large number of ISIS militants to evacuate their posts inside the airbase,” SDF officer Habun Osman told ARA News.

The official added that the SDF has taken control of several parts of the Tabqa Airbase.

“The clashes are still ongoing, but soon the airbase will be fully liberated from ISIS terrorists,” Osman said.

In the meantime, hundreds of civilians started to evacuate Raqqa amidst concerns over the stability of the nearby Tabqa Dam.

The SDF launched a multi-pronged offensive behind enemy lines on Wednesday to liberate the Tabqa Dam from ISIS. Apache helicopters, U.S. Marine artillery and special operation troops were part of this operation to drop SDF fighters near Tabqa.

Seizing Tabqa’s airbase and dam will give the SDF the strategic advantage and launching point needed for the liberation of the city. The area is critical to ISIS’s ability to import and harbor foreign fighters, export terror, and is ISIS’s last link to territory west of the Euphrates.

Tabqah Dam has been used as an ISIS headquarters, a prison for high-profile hostages, a training location, and for external terror plotting since ISIS took control of the location in 2013.

Syrian rebel capture airfield

[ARA News] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Sunday 20:00 PM liberated the strategic Tabqa Airport after several days of fighting, officials confirmed.

“Tabqa Military Airport is liberated by SDF,” the Democratic Union Party (PYD) said on Sunday.

“The Fighters of the Euphrates Wrath operation have liberated the airport of Tebqa from the Daesh [ISIS] mercenaries,” Nawaf Xelil, a Kurdish analyst and former PYD official, said.

The airbase lies 45 kilometers west of Raqqa. Other SDF forces are within 10 kilometers of the city, approaching from the northeast.

The airport was captured by ISIS in August 2014 and is near the Turkish and Iraqi border. ISIS at the time killed more than 170 soldiers, and executed 160 Syrian soldiers between 27-28 August 2014.

This is the second airport liberated by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, after the SDF fighters captured the Minnigh airbase from Islamist militants in February last year.

Kurdish officials have speculated that the SDF and US-led coalition forces could use the air base in the final offensive on the Islamic State’s (ISIS) de facto capital of Raqqa.

The SDF and the US-led coalition could use the airport to facilitate the flow of good, supplies and personnel. This could accelerate the liberation of Raqqa and move the campaign forward.

Kurdish officials hope that the liberation of the airport would make the US-led coalition less dependent on the Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, that Turkey previously threatened to close down due to US cooperation with the Kurdish-led SDF troops.

This comes as part of the third phase of the Euphrates Wrath Operation, aimed at liberating Eastern Raqqa from ISIS jihadists, launched by the SDF on 4 February.

During the first phase of Euphrates Wrath, which began on November 6, 2016, the SDF liberated roughly 560 km² in Northern Raqqa.

On 10 December, the SDF launched the second phase of the Euphrates Wrath, during which it captured over 2500 km² in Western Raqqa.

The campaign is ultimately aimed at isolating the ISIS radical group in its de facto capital.

Iraq
Iraq suspends Mosul offensive after coalition airstrike atrocity
[THEGUARDIAN] Iraqi military leaders have halted their push to recapture west djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
as international outrage grew over the civilian toll from Arclight airstrikes that killed at least 150 people in a single district of the city.

The attack on the Mosul Jadida neighbourhood is thought to have been one of the deadliest bombing raids for civilians since the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. Rescuers were still pulling bodies from the rubble on Saturday, more than a week after the bombs landed, when the US-led coalition confirmed that its aircraft had targeted Isis fighters in the area.

They carried out the attack on 17 March "at the request of the Iraqi security forces", and have now launched a formal investigation into reports of civilian casualties, the coalition said.

British planes were among those operating in western Mosul at the time. Asked if they could have been involved in the Arclight airstrikes, a front man did not rule out the possibility of British involvement, saying: "We are aware of reports [of civilian casualties] and will support the coalition investigation."

There had been no reports of a UK role in any civilian casualties in more than two years of fighting Isis, he added. "We have not seen evidence that we have been responsible for civilian casualties so far. Through our rigorous targeting processes we will continue to seek to minimise the risk of civilian casualties, but that risk can never be removed entirely."

A UK report on the 17 March fighting, which was issued just a couple of days later, described "very challenging conditions with heavy cloud". Tornado jets were sent to "support Iraqi troops advancing inside western Mosul" in intense urban fighting, where crews had to "engage targets perilously close to the Iraqi troops whom they were assisting". They used Paveway guided missiles to hit five targets. The coalition said in a separate statement it had carried out four Arclight airstrikes aimed at "three Isis tactical units". They destroyed more than 50 vehicles and 25 "fighting positions".

The deaths have intensified concerns over up to 400,000 Mosul residents who are still packed into the crowded western half of the city, as Iraqi security forces backed by foreign air power advance on Isis’s last major stronghold in the country.

ISIS orders evacuation of Raqqa dam
ISIL Takfiri group has ordered an evacuation from its de facto capital, Raqqa, following warnings that the Tabqa Dam upstream on the Euphrates River could collapse, the Associated Press reported on Sunday.

The agency quoted the so-called “Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently” as saying that civilians are fleeing Raqqa en masse.

The militants are warning residents that the dam is out of service, weakened by US-led coalition airstrikes, and could collapse. It says water levels are rising behind the dam, AP added.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported the dam is out of service.

US-backed Syrian Kurdish forces are battling IS near the militant-held dam as part of a broader campaign to take Raqqa.

JCC bomb threat suspect said behind over 1,000 calls
Apologies -- I misfiled this originally. Moved to Israel.

trailing wife at 2:45 p.m. EDT
[IsraelTimes] The Israeli-American teenager suspected of being behind the recent bomb threats to JCCs and other American Jewish institutions reportedly made more than 1,000 threatening phone calls over the past two years.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld by a gag order, is alleged to have targeted schools and other public institutions in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, the Yedioth Ahronoth daily reported Sunday.

Reports said he delivered the threats over a period of two years.

Israeli police only managed to zero in on the suspect after US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
sent a team of 12 FBI agents to Israel in recent weeks, Haaretz reported.

Although the investigation has been ongoing for the past two years, the breakthrough that led to the Thursday arrests of the teen and his father was only reached after FBI Sherlocks arrived in Israel several weeks ago, the daily said, citing police sources.

Trump’s intervention is significant, as he had been heavily criticized for not doing enough to end the threats to Jewish centers and for not emphatically condemning anti-Semitsm.

The report did not specify what the FBI agents managed to do that their local counterparts could not.

The suspect, who lives in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon, is refusing to talk to authorities and police have still not managed to access his computers.

While the youth had apparently been making bomb threats for over two years, the urgency in apprehending him increased following a spate of threats to Jewish community centers in the US.

Police sources told Haaretz that that was in part because the suspect would monitor media reports after he’d call in a threat -- to gauge the scale of its impact. If he noticed that it was receiving considerable media attention, he would continue making threats in that same location.
Noted
.Several of the JCCs and Jewish organizations received multiple threats. However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
police believe that the number of bomb threats he phoned in was much greater than was known to the public, as many went unreported.

Police are still struggling to uncover exactly what or how he did, as he has not been cooperating with police, citing his health.

Police are currently waiting for the child’s mother to retrieve the proper medical documentation proving his condition.

They have also failed to break into his computers and they say that he had no social media footprint under any name they know.

He reportedly grew careless and failed on at least one occasion to route his internet connection through a proxy, leaving behind a real IP address traced back to Israel.

Police are also working to gather information from the teen’s father, who remains in jug on suspicion that he knew what his son was doing. The dad, a computer expert himself, was likely to have recognized the high-level equipment in his son’s room, yet did not report the matter to authorities.

The suspect’s mother is also expected to be interrogated in the coming days.

Dallas JCC evacuated over threatening phone call after Israel arrest
*sigh* Same question as before: another kid causing trouble or true malice aforethought? On the other hand, now the FBI and the Israelis know how to find someone doing this the way the last kid did.

[IsraelTimes] A Jewish Community Center in Dallas, Texas, was evacuated due to a threatening call hours after an arrest was made in Israel in connection with dozens of other such threats around the country.

The Aaron Family JCC in North Dallas received the threatening phone call and evacuated the building shortly before 5 p.m. on Thursday. The building remained evacuated for a short time before regular activity there resumed.

The Dallas JCC previously was evacuated in January over a bomb threat, and in early March discovered that an emailed threat went to the center’s spam folder and was only located days later.

#1  On the other hand, now the FBI and the Israelis know how to find someone doing this the way the last kid did

They found him because the teen left his IP address unmasked. And - the media reported it.

#2  And - the media reported it.

Yes, they did, Pappy. But today Ynet has an op-ed which adds the following:

The cooperation between the Israel Police and the FBI was so tight that the American cyber attaché—in addition to the agency's regular representative in Israel—closely accompanied the preparations for the arrest at the Israeli cyber unit last week and the subsequent questioning of the suspect. She was not permitted to be present in the interrogation room, so she remained in a separate room where she received information on the suspect's questioning, suggested lines of inquiry and asked for clarifications.

Talks between Israeli and American representatives have raised the possibility that the young suspect will be extradited to serve his sentence in the United States, as most of the offenses were committed there.

...The political motive is less likely, as the investigation began following threats on schools in New Zealand, which paralyzed the educational system there but had nothing to do with Jewish institutions.

But that plays into President Trump's pro-active non-antisemitism and his correct call about who dunnit, so I don't expect to see it widely reported.
