The Two Americas
[American Thinker] For many years now, we conservatives have had the impression that our nation is fragmenting. Day by day, more signs of this disintegration accumulate. Throughout it all, many of us had hoped that the fragmentation could be reversed. We tried to persuade ourselves that our republic would prove resistant to unconstitutional ideas, and that the American people would come to their senses and reunite, before irreversible catastrophe occurred.

That hope seems to be quickly vanishing.

Two items in the news are of special interest. One of them is that protesters are conducting marches against Sharia Law.

The other involves a young woman named Reality Winner, who has been arrested and jailed on charges of stealing and publishing secret government documents, that purport to link Russia to election hacking. Winner’s motive seems linked to the fact that she has been publicly opposed to the Trump presidency -- so much so as to have advocated destroying the White House.

These news items are only two of the latest, among the many examples of the increasingly rancorous divide in American politics.

The march against Sharia Law is predictably being characterized by the left as an example of right-wing racism and intolerance. (One wonders, when will the left march against Islamic homophobia?)

However, the fear of Sharia Law is not entirely imaginary. There is a recurring effort by Moslems to institute it. And there are other ways in which Moslems segregate themselves from the rest of society. Most recently, this has taken the form of demanding that the government provide Muslims with "safe spaces." The spaces would shield them from surveillance, so that they could -- and the Moslems specify this -- say things that they otherwise could not say in the open.

What, pray tell, are they afraid to say in the open, that radicals of both the right and left are not already saying? Burn down the White House? Murder homosexuals?

My lifelong optimism for America is being challenged by the divisiveness in our society. Once the mighty boulder is cleft, there is no way to return it to its former state.

The American Revolution gave us a war not only against the British Empire, but it also pitted Americans against each other, Tory versus Patriot.

A second American Civil War would be bloody and destructive on a scale none of us has seen in our lifetime within these borders. Even so, a Second American Revolution may be unavoidable. Constitutional government may require it.

#2  Note - first American Civil War was back in 1776, see - King's Mountain, loyalist vs patriots.

Unlike the second when America was largely a rural nation that grew its own, independent of a very elaborate infrastructure, the contemporary world is very dependent upon processes that can easily be disrupted which will result in the old four horsemen of the apocalypse consequences. The most susceptible being large urban areas which will become death traps without outside support. Think Hurricane Katrina or Andrew without the outside world coming to the rescue a dozen times over.

#4  A 'second' civil war would be short, and horrible for any minority communities that fall for the liberals siren call of uprising. After all one "faction" is very well armed, contains most of the military and police, and controls the food.

Sure a civil war could play out in multiple ways but most likely it's rioting in the inner cities, blackouts, a system to process refugees as they flee the quarantine, starvation in the inner cities, and a round-up of traitors for trial (and probably light sentences in the name of reconciliation).

A lot of good might come in the aftermath as everyone finally talks about WTF.

Victor Davis Hanson: Mr. Nunes Went to Washington
[National Review] Devin Nunes is subpoenaing former Obama administration officials who may have played a role in inappropriate monitoring of the Trump transition team.

Representative Devin Nunes (R., Calif.), the now-controversial chair of the House Intelligence Committee, is a bit different from what Washington expects in its politicians. He grew up in the agricultural cornucopia of the Central Valley of California -- fruits, vegetables, beef, dairy products, and fibers -- the concrete expression of a myriad of hard-working ethnic groups. Their diverse ancestors fled poverty and occasional horrors in Armenia, Basque Country, Greece, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, the Punjab, Southeast Asia, and the Oklahoma Dust Bowl.

Central to this mix of immigrants, farmers, and ranchers is a valley culture of pragmatism, bluntness, and tenacity. Of all these groups, none are more unabashedly patriotic and outspoken than Portuguese-immigrant dairy farmers, most from the islands of the Azores. I live in rural Fresno County at the juncture of three congressional districts. All three are currently represented by Portuguese-Americans from farming families and from both parties: Nunes (22nd district); my own representative, David Valadao (R., 21st district); and Representative Jim Costa (D., 16th district).

All three keep getting re-elected for their accessibility, informality, and commitment to the traditional values of their districts. Nunes became a controversial public figure nationally when he revealed that the surveillance of foreign governments by American intelligence agencies may have resulted in the inappropriate monitoring of members of the Trump transition team -- and perhaps some private citizens, too -- and the unmasking of their identities. What followed this disclosure could have mirror-imaged the script of director Frank Capra’s classic film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. It all started when Nunes said he had received unsolicited information of wrongdoing from one or more whistleblowers. Unfortunately for Nunes, he approached complaints of improper surveillance in a Central Valley sort of way (but a most un-Washington manner).

Instead of the usual pattern of leaking the whistleblower’s information to friendly media (and, of course, denying that he was the source of the leaks), Nunes went ballistic -- and, heaven forbid, public. Nunes first notified House speaker Paul Ryan of his intention to bring the information to both the president and the public. Nunes then held a press conference to reveal the potentially inappropriate monitoring, then told the president himself that some of his associates may have been swept up in potentially improper surveillance and leaking conducted by bureaus that fall under the executive branch. Nunes also served subpoenas to the NSA, CIA, and FBI. The result? Suddenly, Nunes himself became the object of Washington vituperation for not immediately informing House Democrats about the potentially inappropriate monitoring.

Nunes was targeted by progressive activists and investigated by the House Ethics Committee -- which has thus far not released any findings of improper behavior -- apparently because he went public and is now viewed as a partisan of Trump. Nunes next announced that he was temporarily delegating his leadership of the House Intelligence Committee as it investigated charges of collusion between the Trump administration and Russia. In melodramatic fashion, Nunes was said to have "recused" himself from all committee leadership. But he really did not. "Recusal" is a legal term that denotes disqualifying oneself due to conflict of interest. Instead, Nunes only took a temporary respite from leading a single investigatory thread of supposed Trump-Russian collusion. Was that a de facto dare for the committee to investigate what Nunes supposedly had blocked? The House Intelligence Committee has not interviewed a single witness for more than two months.

Is that laxity because the committee so far has been unable to find concrete evidence of Trump-Russia collusion? While some other members of the near-dormant House Intelligence Committee apparently have continued to leak information about the possible prospect of grand-jury investigations of Trump and of forthcoming information about collusion with Russia, none of these stories has been accompanied by supporting evidence.

Trump is Winning for America
[American Thinker] Vice President Mike Pence said nothing touches and encourages himself and President Trump more than hearing Americans say they are praying for them. Folks, given president Trump's superhuman focus on winning for America while enduring unprecedented vitriolic attacks from all sides, I'd say our prayers are working.

After months on the road working to elect conservatives in special elections, I'm back home. I ran into my favorite bank teller, a middle-aged Hispanic woman. "Oh Mr Marcus, it is so good to see you." Folks, I was taken aback as she began expressing her extremely heartfelt thanks for my working to elect Trump and the work I do around the country. Frankly, I was stunned by how much Trump winning meant to her. Fake news media will never understand the phenomenal connection Trump has with a majority of the American people. They (We the People) get it. They know Obama was destroying our country. They know Trump is committed to bringing us back from the edge of destruction and they are extremely excited and grateful. None of fake news media's 24/7 attempts to politically assassinate Trump is working -- quite the opposite.

Who could have imagined that Trump's Washington DC inexperience would be one of his greatest strengths? Trump governs free of pro-politician political correctness. A gifted businessman, Trump is instinctively using his talent; making deals good for America while getting us out of deals bad for America. Case in point: Trump pulled us out of the disastrous Paris climate deal.

Meanwhile, Washington, DC establishment elites are outraged, "That's not how we do things in this town. Trump can't say that! Trump can't do that! How dare Trump speak directly to the American people via tweets!"

I've heard talking heads supposedly on our side say they wish Trump would conform more to traditional presidential behavior. I say Trump is doing just fine being 100% Trump. He has made remarkable positive changes in 100 days that would have taken other Republicans 10 years. Whenever Republicans win elections, they are advised to move slowly and be careful not to anger leftists too much to avoid fake news media backlash.

America's number one radio personality, Rush Limbaugh, said, "If what you do relies on talent, you will never be your best doing it someone else's way." Based on his proven talent, I trust Trump to govern his way as long as he functions according to our Constitution. I could not care less that Washington insiders view him as a bull in their Washington DC china store. Break more stuff Mr. President. Please break more stuff.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Comey and Mueller Have a History as a Deep State Tag Team
[American Thinker] In my Sunday column I wrote of the similarity of the Comey - Mueller investigation of purported "Russian collusion" with the Trump campaign to the confected search for who leaked Valerie Plame's name. This was a scheme against Vice President Cheney that ended in the conviction of his aide, Lewis Libby, for a weakly-proven process crime. I had missed that Comey and Mueller may well have honed their deep state purge of political opponents then, something clearly at the bottom of this nonsensical investigation into "Russian collusion" with the Trump campaign.

According to Michael Isikoff, writing in 2006, the FBI (then headed by Mueller) and an unnamed "senior Department of Justice official" were advised in October 2003 that Armitage was the man who leaked Plame's identity -- and yet two months later upon his appointment to be Deputy Attorney General, James Comey appointed his friend Patrick Fitzgerald to investigate the leak. It's hard to believe that he didn't at the time know full well who the leaker had been.

Professor Jacobson at Legal Insurrection indicates Comey's testimony suggests Mueller is already going beyond the narrow mandate of Acting Attorney General Rosenstein, and considering whether the President's discussion with him about General Flynn constitutes "obstruction."

By the Order from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Mueller includes within his jurisdiction "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation." Comey testified that he believes Mueller is evaluating the communications between Comey and Trump with regard to potential obstruction of justice. Indeed, Comey expressed certainty in his testimony that the Special Counsel was investigating Comey’s conversations with Trump:
COMEY: ... I don’t think it’s for me to say whether the conversation I had with the president was an effort to obstruct. I took it as a very disturbing thing, very concerning, but that’s a conclusion I’m sure the special counsel will work towards to try and understand what the intention was there, and whether that’s an offense.

What started as concerns over Russian interference in the election now is about the interactions between Comey and Trump.

CBS News reported that Mueller reportedly gave approval for Comey to testify before Congress and that the testimony was coordinated. Comey testified that he was permitted to review his memos in preparation of his written opening statement for the Committee submitted the day before his live testimony:

COMEY: Yes. I think nearly all of my written recordings of my conversations, I had a chance to review them before filing my statement.

LANKFORD: Do you have a copy of any of the notes personally?

COMEY: I don’t. I turned them over to Bob Mueller’s investigators.

There are a lot of questions that need to be answered about how Rod Rosenstein came to appoint Mueller in those few days after the Comey leak, and whether Comey and Mueller, directly or indirectly, had any communications regarding Trump prior to Mueller’s appointment.

Regardless, we now have the prospect of the Special Counsel investigating and necessarily assigning credibility (or lack thereof) to witnesses, including Comey.[/quote]

It's time to shut this down. Rosenstein should do it, and if he fails to, Attorney General Sessions must.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
The U.S.-Iranian Confrontation on the Syria-Iraq Borders: Interview with an Iraqi Militia Official
[Rubin Center] Besides the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces operations with U.S. coalition support to capture the Islamic State’s de facto Syrian capital of Raqqa, the other major hot-spot to watch at the moment in Syria is the Syrian desert border area between Iraq and Syria. As the Islamic State continues to lose ground in Syria, it is apparent that there is a scramble to take the territory, particularly as the fighting shifts eastwards towards the border with Iraq.

For the Syrian regime and its allies, the eastern regions are valuable for multiple reasons. Economically speaking, for example, there are valuable oil and gas resources, as well as agricultural assets and the prospect of opening or reopening important trade routes like the highway between Baghdad and Damascus. It is far more than mere symbolism, therefore, that the Syrian regime has worked to maintain its currently besieged outposts in Deir az-Zor province.

The idea of coordinating with any available Iraqi forces to regain control of the eastern border areas has also long been on the table well, as when the commander for Liwa al-Imam Zain al-Abidin, a Syrian Hezbollah group fighting in the area, inquired with me in the autumn of last year about the territorial control situation in the eastern border areas, hoping he could arrange coordination with Iraqi forces.

Trump's dream of blue-collar jobs? In Kokomo, success calls for more
[CS Monitor] JUNE 9, 2017 KOKOMO, IND.--In Kokomo, Ind., soon after Highway 931 bends away from due north, two long, low factories stretch for more than a quarter-mile.

On the right is General Motors, a shell of its former self; on the left, a Fiat-Chrysler transmission plant, going full tilt. With five facilities in the area, Fiat-Chrysler employs twice as many people as it did in the depths of the Great Recession. It churns out more transmissions here than anyone anywhere else in the world.

In some ways, this factory city in America’s most manufacturing-dependent state is living the Donald Trump dream. Jobs are plentiful. Foreign immigration is extremely low. In the presidential election, the county went 2 to 1 for Mr. Trump, better than red-state Indiana as a whole.

But for a conservative region, Kokomo and surrounding Howard County are committing a kind of economic heresy. While the president touts more manufacturing jobs as one of the central pieces of his overall economic plan, the county is diversifying away from them.

The city's mayor, a Democrat, has transformed the downtown to make it a livable, walkable place for professionals. And despite the partisan strife in Washington, local Republicans ‐ at least, many of those who live or work in the city ‐ have come around to back the strategy, which turns traditional economic development on its head.

Byron York: Five notes on Trump's current predicament
[Washington Examiner] The danger President Trump faces from the various investigations into the Trump-Russia matter has changed dramatically in recent weeks. If you're a Republican and you still believe the critical question is whether Trump or his associates colluded with Russians to influence the 2016 election -- if you still think that, you're behind the times. So now, a few notes on where the Trump affair is today:

1. It's not about collusion anymore

Fired FBI Director James Comey's testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee marked the full shift of the Trump-Russia investigation from a probe dedicated to discovering collusion to a probe dedicated to proving the president obstructed justice. (See "At this rate, it won't matter if Trump colluded with Russia.") Democrats at the Comey hearing barely touched on collusion, which appears to have turned out to be a dry hole. When it did come up in Comey's appearance, it was during questioning from Republicans, who wanted to highlight their point that collusion -- the core of the case and the reason everybody got so excited in the first place -- has so far turned out to be nothing.

To Democrats, that no longer matters. Now, it's all about obstruction of justice, or alleged obstruction of justice, or fantasized obstruction of justice, depending on your partisan perspective. Senate Democrats focused almost exclusively on obstruction in their questioning of Comey, and their House counterparts are sure to do the same. As far as the Justice Department investigation of the president is concerned, we know that as of the time Comey was fired on May 9, there was no investigation of the president concerning collusion, which strongly suggests that after 10 months of probing, authorities had nothing against him on that issue. Now, however, after the Comey memos and the Comey firing, it seems safe to predict that special counsel Robert Mueller will investigate Trump for obstruction. So it is a new game, even if Republicans keep trying to play the old one.

Home Front: WoT
Congress must protect 'soft' terrorist targets
[Wash Examiner] Our public spaces face an unacceptable terrorist threat. Though terrorism-related casualties are comparatively low, their cumulative impact is corrosive to the public happiness.

And the corrosion is growing.

Manchester, London, San Bernardino and Orlando.

Islamic State has inspired a toxic but potent rise of terrorism. It's a terrorism that sees streets not symbols and gatherings, not government offices, as its primary targets.

Fortunately, we are in a somewhat better position than are our European allies. People who go to large and medium-size public events in this country are nearly always screened with metal detectors. Event-goers can also expect their bags to be opened and inspected at the entry point.

The United States is also a harder place for terrorist recruiting. Our culture of assimilating immigrants isn't as consistently seen in Europe and is close to non-existent in some places. By including Muslim immigrants in the life of the nation, America reduces radicalization. Birthright citizenship, which some conservatives question, is actually one of the strongest tools for giving Muslim immigrants a stake in their new country's future. It also guarantees a stronger allegiance to Uncle Sam than Muslims in, say, France feel toward their adopted homeland.

This allegiance has been critical in snuffing out a considerable share of the failed terrorist plots since 9/11. A 2011 report by Duke University estimated that between 2001 and 2010, voluntary tips from Muslims loyal to America were decisive in thwarting at least 48 (and possibly as many as two dozen more) Islamic terror plots out of 161.

McCain says American leadership was better under Obama
[The Hill] Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said American leadership was stronger under President Trump's predecessor, President Barack Obama, according to a Guardian report published Sunday.

Asked if the country stood on sturdier ground under Obama's leadership, McCain said "yes," according to the report.

"As far as American leadership is concerned, yes," said McCain, who also vocally criticized many of the Obama administration's foreign policy decisions.

McCain also lost to Obama when he ran as the GOP nominee in the 2008 presidential election.

The top Senate Republican was also asked what "message" the president delivered to the U.K. last week when he publicly criticized London's mayor, shortly after a terror-related attack that left eight people dead and many more wounded.

"What do you think the message is? The message is that America doesn’t want to lead," said McCain, chairman on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

"They are not sure of American leadership, whether it be in Siberia or whether it be in Antarctica," he added.

Why Trump Wins - Will Mueller investigate intelligence agencies for playing in domestic politics?
[WSJ] Ex-FBI chief James Comey played well in Thursday’s hearing to the audience he cares about, the media and bicoastal elites. Donald Trump may well have scored a win among the audience he cares about, Trump’s America.

Much was made of Mr. Comey saying he didn’t trust Mr. Trump not to "lie" about what transpired in their private meetings. Yet despite our president’s dubious relation with veracity, President Trump was shown to be the source of important truths. Mr. Comey had indeed told him he was not under personal investigation in the Russia "collusion" matter. As Sen. Marco Rubio, not a big Trump fan, noted, this fact was remarkable for also being widely known among Senate colleagues and yet was the one fact that never leaked to the media.

Mr. Comey made much of conflicting statements about why he was fired. But it was Mr. Trump who, belying his own White House flackery, stated candidly it was because of the "Russia thing." Even a non-Trump fan listening to the hearing could readily gather that Mr. Trump had reason to be frustrated that his administration was being paralyzed by insinuations of collusion for which there is zero evidence.

As a rule, when there is no evidence of a particular act, the FBI does not investigate. The FBI is investigating now only because Democrats and Trump opponents so filled the airwaves with unsubstantiated speculation.

Now here’s a secret: Most Democrats understand the hunt will come a cropper. If a Trump associate brushed shoulders with a Russian-looking individual on the way to the men’s room, it has leaked. The U.S. government sucks up and archives vast gobs of communication data.

Yet the earnestly desired evidence of collusion has not materialized, so Democrats have turned instead to charging "obstruction of justice," with many already baying for impeachment.

Here’s another secret: Such "process" crimes don’t impress voters when there is no underlying crime. If Mr. Trump leaned on his intelligence officials to remove the Russian cloud, this was ill-advised on the part of a president whose specialty is the ill-advised. But his behavior will also increasingly appear in a new light if it turns out Washington’s tail-chasing has been partly driven by Russian fabrications.

The Washington Post and CNN reported late last month that the single most shattering series of events for the Hillary Clinton campaign--the events that began with FBI chief Comey’s intervention in the race--was partly influenced by planted Russian fake intelligence.

Likewise the dossier of repulsive Trump allegations, assembled by a retired British spy supposedly tapping his Russian intelligence sources, also appears to have been a Russian plant and yet may have played a role in justifying the Obama administration’s decision to launch an intelligence investigation of the Trump campaign.

Britain
London Police Chief: Terror Victims Show How Diverse We Are
[Daily Caller] London Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick touted the diversity of the London attack victims in a Saturday interview with the Associated Press.

"It’s desperately sad and poignant but among those who died is someone who’s British, there are French, Australian, Canadian, Spanish," Dick declared. "We believe of course that that’s what makes our city so great," she continued, adding "It’s a place where the vast majority of time it’s incredibly integrated and that diversity gives us strength."

Dick’s comments come a week after three Islamic State inspired terrorists mowed down dozens of pedestrians on London bridge before stabbing as many possible. London police extraordinarily were able to neutralize all three of the terror suspects within 8 minutes of receiving their first emergency phone call regarding the incident.

All three of the London attackers had major red flags prior the terrorist attack. Rachid Redouane was denied asylum in the U.K. in 2009 and managed to slip into the country via an immigration loophole. His accomplice partner Khuram Butt was featured in a 2015 documentary titled "The Jihadi’s Next Door" and was known to U.K. authorities. Their final partner Youssef Zaghba was stopped at an Italian airport in 2016 trying to travel to Syria and even told security officers "I’m going to be a terrorist."

Arabia
Arab powers will prevail over Qatar
By Hussein Ibish

[The National] When Donald Trump tweeted strong support for the Arab coalition confronting Qatar, the final window of hope slammed shut on Doha. Qatar's only practical way out of the crisis was to hope that Washington would mediate the crisis in a spirit of strict neutrality and press all sides to return to the status quo ante. That’s clearly not going to happen.

Qatar may drag this out, but it knows it will have to capitulate eventually. And just as it is openly working with Turkey and quietly with Iran to maximize its options and minimize the damage, it is simultaneously now taking steps to reach out and seek a resolution.

Qatar also knows that it can not end the crisis without agreeing to a series of measures the Arab bloc is demanding, especially insofar as they are also insisted on by Washington. Doha is therefore moving towards negotiating the terms of its inevitable climb down, and limiting the price it must pay. Doha cannot endure current circumstances, let alone an additional significant escalation. Qatar has no choice.

Iran will give unforgettable lessons to terrorists
[Iran Press TV] Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri has pledged that the Islamic Theocratic Republic would give "new unforgettable lessons" to gunnies and their allies after recent twin terrorist attacks in Tehran.

Baqeri made the remarks in a message to a ceremony held in Tehran on Sunday attended by a large number of high-ranking Iranian officials and people from all walks of life to commemorate the victims of this last Wednesday's terrorist incidents in Tehran.

He added that the Iranian Armed Forces and intelligence and security bodies would give new unforgettable lessons to gunnies and their regional and extra-regional supporters at the suitable location and time in order to uproot the ominous phenomenon of terrorism in cooperation with other Moslem nations.

The top Iranian commander warned those who still seek to hatch plots and draw up anti-security plans against the Islamic Theocratic Republic to take lessons from the terrorists’ fate and avoid repeating their mistakes even in their minds.

Baqeri expressed confidence that the hegemonic system and Zionism, which have dispatched gunnies nurtured by spy agencies to Iran in cooperation with reactionary regimes in the region, would face no other fate but defeat and disgrace.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US-backed SDF militias seize 2nd Raqqah district from Daesh
[Iran Press TV] The so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has retaken a second district of Syria's troubled and Lion of Islam-held northern city of Raqqah from Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
ISIS terrorists, and launched a renewed assault on a base north of the city as they press ahead with an offensive against the holy warriors.

The US-backed SDF, made up of an alliance of Arab and Kurdish fighters, announced in a statement on Sunday that their fighters "liberated the neighborhood of al-Romaniya on the western front of Raqqah, after two days of continued festivities."

This is the first time that SDF forces have regained control over a western district of Raqqah. The snuffies had earlier seized control of the eastern neighborhood of al-Meshleb

Also on Sunday, SDF forces battled to capture the Division 17 military base and an adjacent sugar factory, which ISIS bandidos bandidos Death Eaters have used to repulse approaches into Raqqah.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the fighters sought to dislodge the snuffies from the base, with backing from the US-led coalition purportedly fighting Takfiri ISIS Lions of Islam in Syria.

"Blasts could be heard throughout the night because of the exchange of fire between the two sides," the Britannia-based monitoring group said.

Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman said ISIS had "heavily fortified" the base, expecting a major SDF offensive.

It is estimated a population of 300,000 civilians are trapped inside Raqqah, including 80,000 displaced from other parts of Syria. Thousands have fled in recent months, and the United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) believes about 160,000 people remain in the city.

On June 6, SDF said it had launched an operation aimed at pushing ISIS out of Raqqah.

The city of Raqqah, which lies on the northern bank of the Euphrates River, was overrun by ISIS Lions of Islam in March 2013, and was proclaimed the center for most of the Takfiris’ administrative and control tasks the next year.

Big ISIS Turban dies in Raqqa fighting

[ARA News] A senior official of the Islamic State (ISIS) radical group was killed along with several other jihadists in an attack by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Raqqa city, military sources reported on Sunday.

Abu Khattab al-Tunsi, a Tunisian jihadist and chief of ISIS’ military operations in eastern Raqqa, was killed by the SDF fire.

“At least 12 members of ISIS were killed during clashes with the SDF in the eastern part of Raqqa. Among the casualties was Abu Khattab al-Tunsi,” a spokesman for the SDF confirmed in an interview with ARA News on Sunday.

“The death of al-Tunsi comes as a new blow to the ISIS terror group. He was leading their military operations in the eastern side of Raqqa city,” the Kurdish official said.

In the meantime, ISIS militants launched an offensive on the SDF headquarters in northern Raqqa.

“The group launched several mortar shells on the SDF security checkpoints in the villages of al-Kleb and Shahir north of Raqqa in the midnight on Sunday,” local media activist Shero Ahmed told ARA News.

“The bombardment caused the injury of at least six SDF fighters, who are being treated by the medical team in northern Raqqa,” the source reported.

This comes after the US-backed SDF troops launched a major operation to liberate the city of Raqqa from ISIS radicals. On Tuesday, the SDF announced the official start of the operation to liberate the city of Raqqa from Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants.

The SDF forces have liberated several neighborhoods in Raqqa city since Tuesday.

Raqqa has been known as a de facto capital for the ISIS self-proclaimed Caliphate since the summer of 2014.

The Kurdish-Arab-Christian alliance of SDF has been isolating Raqqa since November 2016, when the US-backed alliance launched the so-called Euphrates Wrath Operation.

On 13 April, the Syrian Democratic Forces launched the fourth phase of the Euphrates Wrath Operation against Islamic State’s extremists to clear out the northern countryside of Raqqa.

During the first phase of Euphrates Wrath, which began on November 6, 2016, the SDF liberated roughly 560 km² in Northern Raqqa.

On 10 December, 2016, the SDF launched the second phase of the Euphrates Wrath, during which it captured over 2500 km² in Western Raqqa.

On 4 February, 2017, the Syrian Democratic Forces launched the third phase of the Euphrates Wrath Operation, and liberated dozens of villages in Eastern Raqqa from ISIS jihadists.

The campaign is ultimately aimed at liberating the city of Raqqa from ISIS extremists.

Bangladesh
A life of constant fear for the Ahmadiyyas in Bangladesh
[Dhaka Tribune] "There are people who do not consider Muhammad (Pbuh) the last prophet. The Quadiani community is among them. They believe more prophets will appear after Muhammad (Pbuh). Their belief is in firm contradiction of the Qu’ran and Sunnah."

The passage is an excerpt from a creative questionnaire which was part of an Islamic Studies exam at Brahmanbaria’s Niaz Muhammad High School in 2016.

On May 8, 2017, three madrasa students attempted to murder Mustafizur Rahman, imam of an Ahmadiyya mosque. He was set upon by the three with sharp weapons after the evening prayers. Mustafizur survived with grievous injuries. Local villagers helped law enforcement agencies capture the attackers quickly. After they were locked away

DC Whispers: REPORT: Everything You Need To Know About Comey & His Deep State History
BEGIN OP

There are very few crime/mystery novels that approach this true story for compelling drama, intrigue and brinkmanship (with the nation in the balance).

Don’t believe the fake-media story that Trump made a mistake or huge gaffe by firing Comey.

Don’t believe the media narrative from the left that it was an attempt to silence Comey from some investigation into Trump.

Don’t believe the RINO narrative that Comey is a good guy just trying to do his job in terrible circumstances and the timing was bad.

Don’t believe the lie that Comey was admired and respected by career FBI investigators and agents.

Don’t believe the lie that Trump’s "tweets" are not professional and have no strategic purpose. His tweets are ’weaponized’ and deadly.

ReJames Comey is a poisonous snake of the highest order... a deep-water Swamp Denizen who has been highly paid to deliberately provide cover for high-level corruption by the Clintons and Obama. He is has been central to trying to destroy the Trump campaign and then the Trump administration from the start. He is as dirty as they come in DC. He had highest-level cover (the FBI no less) and was deep into an effort to eliminate Trump. Trump had to move hard, fast, and at exactly the right time to cut the head off the snake without getting bitten by the snake or being finished by the other swamp denizens.

Begin by noticing how the President fired Comey when Comey was 3,000 miles away from his office, that Comey had no inkling he was being cut, that all his files, computers, and everything in his office were seized by his boss Sessions and the justice department.
...

AG Sessions and his Deputy AG use the Comey trove of information to determine who has been part of the Comey Syndicate at the FBI. They will be appointing an "interim" Director of the FBI shortly who has not been compromised by Comey, Clinton or Obama.

That "interim" Director does not have to be approved by Congress or anyone, and can immediately begin cleaning house at the FBI of all Comey/Clinton/Obama minions, initiating investigations of the Clintons, Clinton Fund, violations of intelligence confidentiality laws by Susan Rice and Obama, human trafficking in DC, political corruption... draining the Swamp.

Using the Comey files they can be fairly certain they are not getting another Comey as an "interim", and they do not have to wait for the circus of appointing a new permanent "Director" through Congressional approval. Most of the heavy lifting on rooting out FBI corruption and starting investigations into the swamp will be done by the "interim" before a new director is appointed. I suspect the Trump administration hopes the approval FBI Director process will be slow and tedious, so there is no political interference with the housecleaning that is starting.

In one masterstroke, Trump has eliminated a truly toxic and dangerous enemy to his administration and our country, dealt a horrendous blow to the Clinton/Obama and deep state machines, begun the restoration of the integrity of the FBI and the DOJ, and gained incredible ammunition to begin hunting the foul creatures in the swamp.

#1  The major Democratic party has gone anti-Democracy. They have embraced violence, constitutional treason, ongoing subversive activities. If people from China, Cuba, Venezuela or Russia invaded DC, you could not tell the difference between them and the Democratic party.

This is not a lite issue considering how violently militant this party has become. Sanders attitude in his attack on a Christian nominee to head a federal agency is no different than the Chinese attitude of beating Christians and burning their church down. The Constitution was written by predominately Christian founders. And the Constitution is the enemy of the now radical Democratic party leadership and rank and file.

Butt-hurt Obama: His Next Failed Move to Undermine President Trump
[TheBlackSphere] In the last election, though Hillary Clinton lost, the real loser was Barack Obama.

Apparently, Obama takes the rejection personally. Thus, Obama’s travel schedule appears to undermine President Trump.

During his latest trip to Canada Obama spoke to 6,000 socialists in order to maintain some semblance of relevance.

Ironically, the crowd size was exponentially larger than crowds Obama commands stateside.

Ironically, the premise of Obama’s speech was to bring attention to the terrorism. However, Obama proved to be quintessential Obama, as he warned Canadians not to move "backward towards Nationalism, isolations, and xenophobia."

"The disruptions that are happening globally are going to continue to accelerate....that leads people to search for certainty and control, and they can call for isolationism or nationalism, or they can consider rolling back the rights of others, or simply they can try to retreat and suggest that we have no obligations beyond our borders, or beyond our communities, beyond our tribe. That what’s good for me and my immediate people is all that matters. Everybody else is on their own."

Obama’s solution to fighting global terror is to tell non-terrorists to simply accept terrorism.

No wonder why America didn’t want Obama.

Throughout his 8 years of failure and the rejection of his legacy throughout this past election, Obama learned nothing.

Citizens expect their government to protect them. And if America proves anything, we have none of the problems Obama outlined.

America is diverse and accepting. And we won’t be demonized to suit the narrative of the PC multiculturalists.

All Obama gave America is terrorists in our midst, literally training in all 50 states.

But the real issue was trade.

While Obama glad-hands over terror, the real issue in Canada is one of our trade deficit.

Shorty after his inauguration, President Trump announced that the United States will impose a 20 percent tariff on all softwood lumber imported from Canada. He made this move to level the playing field for American lumber companies.

"We love Canada, but they have been very good at taking advantage of the United States through NAFTA," Trump told a group of reporters. "We are putting a 20 percent tax on lumber coming into the United States from Canada."

Obama did nothing to correct America’s trade imbalance anywhere on the globe.

Yet, he told Canadians and the rest of the world that the Trump administration’s "American first" policies worries him. Obama cautioned about "intolerance and tribalism and organizing ourselves along ethnic lines."

Interesting choice of words, given that both the United States and Canada are about as heterogeneous as cultures as you can get.

In the end, Obama can do nothing to stop the Trump administration agenda. And I can’t wait for Trump’s policy moves to play out, so the world will be forced to see Obama for what he was and still is. A loser.

Hilldebeest Used Black Prison Labor As First Lady of Arkansas
[Atlanta Black Star] Social media erupted Tuesday, June 6, after excerpts from Hillary Clinton’s 1996 book "It Takes a Village" revealed that she employed Black inmates while serving as First Lady of Arkansas, leaving die-hard HRC supporters incensed.

In the passages, tweeted by Black Lives Matter activist and Sen. Bernie Sanders supporter @JeanetteJing, Clinton recalled the African-American inmates who worked in the Arkansas governor’s mansion she shared with her husband, former President Bill Clinton, who led the Little Rock State from 1979 to 1981 and 1983 to 1992. For Hillary Clinton, the aspect of getting to know the inmates who worked around the house and in the yard was a bit "unusual" at first.

"When we moved in, I was told that using prison labor at the governor’s mansion was a longstanding tradition, which kept down costs," Clinton wrote. "I had defended several clients in criminal cases, but visiting them in jail or sitting next to them in court was not the same as encountering a convicted murderer in the kitchen every morning."

The former First Lady stuck to tradition, however, and eventually warmed up to the idea of having prison laborers in her home. In fact, Clinton wrote that she and her family became friends with "a few of them, African-American men in their 30s who had already served 12 to 18 years of their sentences."

"I saw and learned a lot as I got to know them better," she continued.

Despite these alleged friendships, Clinton stressed that, "We enforced rules strictly and sent back to prison any inmate who broke a rule."

bully boyz dislodged from Sambisa forest in Borno state.

Speaking with journalists at the weekend, Iriase said despite the presence of the military in Edo north, the attacks on the locals have increased and nothing is being done to address the situation.

The politician said the residents of the affected areas are not only suffering in silence but are afraid of reprisal attacks "which are often more deadly".

He said the criminals are not herdsmen, owing to the level of their sophistication.

While calling on the security agencies to collaborate in addressing the menace, Iriase expressed fears that if it is not controlled, what is happening in the north-east would become a norm in the south.

"The populace is suffering in silence for the fear of reprisal attacks which are often more deadly, the irony of this situation is that there are army formations at Agenebode, Estako east local government area and Nigogo barracks at Auchi in Estako west local government area," said the politician representing Owan west/east federal constituency of Edo.

"There is also a mobile force formation at Iyamo in Estako west if these security forces are coordinated and work in concert to flush out these bandidos from their camps, security will be restored to their to Edo north. I hereby call on the military and police chiefs in Edo state to clear out these criminal camps before they develop into the safe havens for hard boyz like Boko Haram.

Iran sends warships to Oman amid Gulf dispute
[Al Jazeera] Iran is sending two warships to Oman before they start their mission in international waters near the coast of Yemen, the country's navy has said.

The Tasnim news agency reported that the two ships, an Alborz destroyer and a Bushehr logistics warship, will depart from the port city of Bandar Abbas on Sunday for an overseas mission to Oman and then on to international waters.

"An Iranian naval flotilla will depart to Oman on Sunday and then will go to the north of the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden," the agency quoted the navy as saying.

The Gulf of Aden, which lies between the Horn of Africa and the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, is a strategic shipping lane which connects the Indian ocean with the Red Sea and Suez Canal.

German intelligence detected 'suspicious behavior' by the Muslim Brotherhood: Egyptian ambassador
[AlAhram] The Islamist group is now viewed with more suspicion in Germany, possibly linked to terror attacks, according to Ambassador Badr Abdelatty.

German intelligence officials have detected "suspicious behaviour" by the Moslem Brüderbund in eastern Berlin, Egypt’s ambassador to Germany Badr Abdelatty told state-run news agency
...and if you can't believe the state-run news agency who can you believe?...
MENA on Sunday.

The ambassador made the comments on Sunday, one day ahead of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's planned visit to Berlin for a conference on investment in African nations.

Abdelatty, who was Egypt’s foreign ministry front man before taking his post in Berlin, said that a German security report has revealed recent suspicious actions on the part of the Brotherhood in Germany, including the construction of mosques in areas with few Moslems.

The ambassador did not release any more details regarding the claims made in the German intelligence report, although he did say that German officials have become more wary of the Moslem Brüderbund of late.

"The German side became increasingly convinced that all Death Eater groups in the name of religion hail from the [Moslem] Brotherhood," MENA quoted Abdelatty as saying.

The ambassador added that German officials used to view the Brotherhood as a political group that should be integrated into political life and party politics.

However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
the Germans now view the Brotherhood as an Death Eater group, he said.

This shift, according to Abdelatty, has resulted from groups related to the Brotherhood, such as Hasm, taking responsiblity for various terrorist attacks.

"This provided compelling evidence of the Brotherhood’s links with violence and terrorism, evidence that some Western capitals were requesting," he said.

In February, German security official Gordian Meyer-Plath was quoted in media reports as saying the Moslem Brüderbund still wants to apply Sharia law in Germany while gaining control of the nation's mosques.

As of Sunday afternoon, Germany had not made any public comment in response to Abdelatty's remarks.

5 die near Jordanian border
(Reuters) Jordan’s army said on Sunday its border guards killed five people who were approaching its frontier from Tanf, a Syrian desert town where U.S. special forces training rebels are based.

The town has been a flashpoint in recent weeks as militias backed by Iran have tried to get near the U.S. garrison, prompting U.S. coalition jets to strike back.

Tanf lies near the strategic Damascus-Baghdad highway that was once a major weapons supply route for Iranian weapons into Syria.

The Jordanian army said it destroyed a car and two motorbikes in the incident.

The army statement did not give any details of the identity of the men and whether they were smugglers or militants in the area where Jordan’s northeastern borders meet both Iraq and Syria.

The statement however said that before the shooting, a convoy of nine cars had approached from the Tanf area but fled after the army fired warning shots.

group to life in prison for an attack on U.S. troops in the emirate last year.

Egyptian Ibrahim Suleiman in October rammed his truck into a vehicle carrying three U.S. soldiers, in what the U.S. embassy described as a "terrorist attack."

The soldiers were unharmed but the driver was lightly maimed when his truck caught fire as a result of the collision.

Kuwaiti authorities said at the time that police found a handwritten note on Suleiman in which he pledged allegiance to IS. They also said that he was carrying suspected explosives.

Sunday's verdict against the 28-year-old is not final and will be reviewed by Kuwait's appeals and supreme courts.

The supreme court on Sunday also upheld a 20-year jail term against Fahad Farraj, reportedly the de facto head of IS in Kuwait and the ringleader of an eight-member convicted IS cell. The court also upheld 15- and 10-year jail terms for the other seven members of the cell, five of whom are Kuwaiti citizens. The remaining three do not hold any citizenship. The eight were convicted of fighting with IS in Syria and Iraq and of raising funds for the group.

Kuwaiti courts have given hefty jail terms to dozens of men charged with joining or sympathizing with IS.

Puerto Rico Votes For U.S. Statehood
PR has three political camps: Statehood camp. Nationhood camp. Do nothing and continue to suck off of the U.S. taxpayer camp. Everyone in PR is a member of one of these camps.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- A large majority of voters in Puerto Rico supported U.S. statehood for their island in a referendum on Sunday, according to partial results, but a low turnout and a boycott by several opposition parties called into question the validity of the non-binding vote.

More than 480,000 votes were cast for statehood, more than 7,500 for free association/independence and more than 6,500 for independence, with roughly half of polling centers reporting. The participation rate was nearly 23 percent with roughly 2.26 million registered voters.
U.S. Congress Has The Final Say:
U.S. Congress has final say on any changes to the U.S. territory's political status, regardless of the referendum's final outcome. Iraq
Mosul Offensive News

Iraqi forces enter west Mosul district

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi government troops began Sunday the invasion of western Mosul’s Old City district, the last Is bastion in the region, military media reported.

The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said the army’s 9th division consummated the recapture of Zanjili district from the south, and invaded Bab Sinjar, one of the entrances of the Old City, the medieval area home to the Grand Nuri Mosque, the place where IS supreme leader proclaimed the group’s rule in Iraq in 2014.

Iraqi troops recaptured Zanjili on Saturday and made incursions in neighboring al-Shifa district, killing dozens of militants and destroying several combat equipment. Both were the last regions remaining under IS control around the Old City.

Commanders from the Iraqi leadership and the allied U.S.-led coalition say there are less than 1000 fighters remaining in the Old City, but holding at least 200.000 civilians captives in dire conditions and shooting dead those who attempt to flee.

Iraqi government forces recaptured eastern Mosul in January after three months of fighting, and aimed at the western side of the city starting February 19th.

The conflict has displaced at least 800.000 civilians since the start of the campaign to retake the city in October, according to Iraqi migration authorities’ figures.

Iraqi forces capture part of district in western Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi troops took over a half of the last district held by the Islamic State near the Old City in western Mosul, an Iraqi officer was quoted saying on Sunday.

Maj. Ali Mohsen, from the Iraqi Federal Police service, told BasNews that security troops took over 50 percent of al-Shifa neighborhood, the last one remaining under IS control adjacent to the Old City, its last entrenchment in Mosul.

Mohsen said forces imposed their control over major alleyways and streets in al-Shifa, and killed three foreign snipers fighting for IS.

He added that forces opened fire at a school in the district where militants were seeking shelter, killing several of them, including the area’s media official. He revealed that IS members were withdrawing towards the Old City.

Hours earlier, the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said the army’s 9th division consummated the recapture of Zanjili district from the south, and invaded Bab Sinjar, one of the entrances of the Old City. The medieval area is home to the Grand Nuri Mosque, the place where IS supreme leader proclaimed the group’s rule in Iraq in 2014.

Airstrike destroys ISIS convoy in Hawija
Hawija (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi army warplanes destroyed Sunday a convoy of Islamic State vehicles that were leaving Hawija, Kirkuk, towards western desert areas, according to security sources.

Waradana news website quoted the sources saying all on board of the five vehicles were killed in the airstrike.

Meanwhile, Alsumaria News quoted local sources saying that IS members set fire to the house of a fugitive finance official with the group and arrested his family members. The escaped member fled two days earlier with amounts of money that were supposed to be paid as salaries for fighters.

Recent reports have quoted local sources saying IS leaderships were ordering fighters to evacuate to Mutaibija desert region, an area on the borders between Salahuddin and Diyala provinces. Alsumaria News said Saturday that IS arrested 13 of its members for refusing to comply with the evacuation.

Hawija and other neighboring areas in southwest Kirkuk have been under Islamic State control since 2014, when the group emerged to proclaim an Islamic “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria. The group executed dozens of civilians and security members there, forcing thousands to flee homes.

Local tribal leaders and politicians from Kirkuk have recently mounted pressure on the Iraqi government to hasten with invading Hawija, suggesting that its people were experiencing a humanitarian crisis under the group’s rule. The Iraqi government is currently employing the largest portion of its military effort in Mosul, IS’s capital in Iraq where Iraqi commanders said recently they became in control over nearly 90 percent of territory since operations launched to retake the city in October.

Three weeks ago, Alsumaria News quoted sources saying that IS had opened alternative headquarters for its so-called “Nineveh State, “Dijlah State”, “Salahuddin State” and “Diyala State” in Hawija. He said senior leaders had entered the town in armored vehicles after having fled battles with security forces in Nineveh.

Europe
Charities ‘pay people traffickers’
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] Refugee charities are paying people smugglers to ferry migrants colonists to their rescue boats patrolling off Libya, it was claimed last night.

A senior Libyan coastguard official told The Mail on Sunday he had evidence that aid agencies were stumping up cash for migrants colonists desperate to reach Europe but who cannot afford to pay ruthless traffickers.

Colonel Tarek Shanboor said he had obtained bank details and phone records that proved the charities were making payments to criminal gangs who have put hundreds of thousands of migrants colonists into unseaworthy boats ‐ leading to thousands of deaths each year.

His claim will raise concern because there have long been fears that Islamic Lions of Islam could be among the migrants colonists.

Nigerian Noble Savages lambasted by Pope Francis
[Breitbart] In what is perhaps the most strongly worded address of the Francis pontificate, the Pope blasted a group of Nigerian priests who have rejected the papal appointment of their bishop to the diocese of Ahiara, comparing them to the "murderous tenants" spoken of by Jesus in the gospel.

The Pope goes on to describe the priests’ offense against the Church as a "mortal sin," demanding that each one write a personal letter of apology manifesting "total obedience to the Pope."

This act of rebellion goes beyond "tribalism," Francis said, and is rather "an attempted taking of the vineyard of the Lord."

The Ahiara diocese has been embroiled in controversy ever since 2012, when Pope Benedict XVI appointed Peter Okpaleke as its bishop, an appointment that was reportedly opposed by "lay people and priests of the diocese."

Members of the local church have demanded a bishop from the Mbaise region, like their former bishop, the late Victor Adibe Chikwe, who came from Mbaise and was accepted as a "son of the soil."

Northerners should leave Niger Delta before Oct 1, militants react to Igbo quit notice
[THECABLE.NG] Niger Delta militants have issued an October 1 ultimatum for northerners to leave their region, in response to the quit notice given to the Igbo by some Arewa youth groups.

The militants also said the federal government should hand over all oil blocs controlled by northerners to the people of Niger Delta.

In a joint statement released on Friday, the coalition of Niger Delta militants said they will declare the independence of the region on October 1.

A communiqué was signed to this effect by ’General’ John Duku (Niger Delta Watchdogs and Convener: Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators), ’General’ Ekpo Ekpo (Niger Delta Volunteers), ’General’ Osarolor Nedam (Niger Delta Warriors), and ’Major-Gen.’ Henry Okon Etete (Niger Delta Peoples Fighters), ’Major-Gen.’ Asukwo Henshaw (Bakassi Freedom Fighters), ’Major-Gen.’ Ibinabo Horsfall (Niger Delta Movement for Justice), ’Major-Gen.’ Duke Emmanson (Niger Delta Fighters Network), and ’Major-Gen.’ Inibeghe Adams (Niger Delta Freedom Mandate).

"A coalition of the Niger Delta militants met today in Port Harcourt to review the recent call by the Arewa Youths groups that the Ndigbo should vacate all the Northern states within three months," it read.

"We see the declaration by Arewa Youths as a declaration which the northern elders, leaders, political elite, security heads from the North and governors were fully aware of.

"We demand 100 per cent control of our resources. We demand that the Federal Government should hand over all oil blocs owned by northerners to Niger Delta indigenes. All the companies operating in such oil blocs/wells should vacate within three months."

The militants further said that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) should be relocated to the Niger Delta region.

"The Federal Government should immediately relocate NNPC and all the offices that have to do with oil/gas sector back to Niger Delta states and immediately replace the Group Managing Director with an indigene of Niger Delta," the communique further read.

"All northern indigenes working in NNPC and any other board that has anything to do with oil/gas should be sacked with immediate effect.

"We demand an independent and sovereign Republic of Niger Delta. We are tired of living with the North under Nigeria. We are tired of the President’s sentiments against the Niger Delta people.

"The President can have time to receive the Chibok girls but could not have time to meet with the representatives of the Niger Delta agitators. Our money has been used to fund Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, a problem created by the Northerners in order to use it as conduit pipe to siphon the resources of Niger Delta.

"On October 1, 2017 we shall declare our independence come rain, come shine. We shall take our destiny in our hands and free ourselves from the slavery of the North as they are tired of one Nigeria.

"From October 1, 2017, we don’t want to see any northerner close to (the) Niger Delta; any attempt to penetrate shall meet fierce resistance. This time, we are not going to play defence, but attack."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Fighting erupts among rival rebel groups in al-Bab
(Reuters) Turkish-backed rebels fought each other on Sunday in the Syrian town of al Bab in the first bout of rebel fighting since they seized the town this year from Islamic State militants, rebels and witnesses said.

It was not clear what triggered the armed clashes between rival rebel groups who hold sway in the city since it was seized last February from Islamic State militants.

Turkey sent warplanes, tanks and artillery into Syria last year in support of the Arab Sunni rebels, an operation dubbed “Euphrates Shield” which was aimed at driving both Islamic State and Kurdish militia forces away from its border.

Checkpoints were spread by the Turkish-controlled military council that runs the city where thousands of people have been returning in recent months with the gradual resumption of basic services, a resident who was contacted in the city said.

The heavy clashes left several dead and scores injured, another rebel source said.

Rebel infighting has been a major weakness of the revolt against President Bashar al Assad’s rule since its earliest days, with rebel factions divided by both ideology and local power struggles.

In the last few days deadly clashes have also broken out in the town of Maarat al Numan in the northwestern province of Idlib between Tahrir al Sham, a merger of jihadist groups spearheaded by a former al-Qaeda offshoot, and a Western-backed Free Syrian Army group.

OK Pub Congressman: 'Comey leak unlawful inappropriate, but no harm done.'
[Wash Times] A key Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee said Sunday that former FBI director James Comey’s leak of his memos detailing his private meeting with the president was "inappropriate," but "releasing his memos [is] not damaging to national security."

"I’m still wondering why he prospectively wanted to get out his side of his opinion," Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma said Sunday, appearing on CBS’ "Face the Nation."

Mr. Comey testified last week that he leaked the memos through a friend to The New York Times after President Trump hinted he may have tapes of their private conversation. According to Mr. Comey, the president directed him to stop the investigation into his former national security advisor Michael Flynn and also requested his loyalty -- something Mr. Trump denies.

Mr. Lankford said he doubts that Mr. Trump has recordings of his private conversation with Mr. Comey, as the president has hinted the tapes exist.

Robert Mueller should step aside: Friends shouldn't be investigating friends
[LI] The Special Counsel investigation led by Robert Mueller barely has gotten off the ground, and already there is a stench.

That stench was created by former FBI Director James Comey, who admitted in testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee that he leaked, through a friend, memoranda purporting to document improper conversations between Donald Trump and Comey. Most important among those conversations was a February 14, 2017, one-on-one meeting in which Trump supposedly told Comey that Trump "hoped" that Comey would see fit to "let go" of the investigation into Michael Flynn.

As described in Comey’s prepared statement (emphasis added):
The President then returned to the topic of Mike Flynn, saying, "He is a good guy and has been through a lot." He repeated that Flynn hadn’t done anything wrong on his calls with the Russians, but had misled the Vice President. He then said, "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go." I replied only that "he is a good guy." (In fact, I had a positive experience dealing with Mike Flynn when he was a colleague as Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency at the beginning of my term at FBI.) I did not say I would "let this go."
Comey’s version of that conversation was leaked to the NY Times, though the precise timing is disputed. Comey asserted in his testimony that the leak came only after Trump tweeted: "James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

Trump’s attorney claims the leak came days earlier, as NY Times reporting contained language strikingly to the leaked memo as conveyed by Comey’s law professor friend to the NY Times.

Regardless of the timing, Comey says that he leaked the memoranda in order to create a need for a Special Counsel.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Netanyahu calls for dismantling of UNRWA
[Iran Press TV] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for the dismantling of the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Relief and Works Agency for Paleostine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which aids millions of Paleostinian refugees across the region.

In public remarks to his cabinet at its weekly meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu accused UNRWA of anti-Israeli incitement, which, he said, was rife in institutions, including schools, run by the agency.

"It is time UNRWA be dismantled and merged with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees," the Israeli premier said.
Netanyahu said UNRWA had perpetuated, rather than solved, the Paleostinian refugee problem, adding that he had conveyed his message to Nikki Haley
...first woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, and the second Indian-American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 39, Haley is the youngest current governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
, the US ambassador to the United Nations.

Referring to a meeting he held in the occupied Jerusalem al-Quds on Wednesday with Haley, Netanyahu said, "I told her it was time the United Nations re-examine UNRWA's existence."

A 'fantasizing' Bibi
Netanyahu's comments did not go unnoticed in the besieged Gazoo Strip, which has been blockaded by the Israeli regime for nearly ten years now.

Adnan Abu Hasna, a Gazoo-based front man for UNRWA, said the Israeli prime minister was pursuing a "fantasy."

Chris Gunness, UNRWA's chief front man, said only the UN General Assembly, by a majority vote, could change the agency's mandate.

"In December 2016, UNRWA's mandate was extended for three years by the General Assembly by a large majority," he wrote in an email to Rooters.

UNRWA was established by the UN General Assembly in 1949 after thousands of Paleostinians fled or were expelled by Israeli forces from their homes in the 1948 war.

UNRWA is tasked with providing assistance and protection to a population of some five million registered Paleostinian refugees.

#4  Chris Gunness, UNRWA's chief front man, said only the UN General Assembly, by a majority vote, could change the agency's mandate.

As I recall, the General Assembly's votes are advisory, the Security Council's are definitive. If I'm right, the Security Council need only vote to defund or dismantle the UNRWA, so long as there is no veto by one of the five permanent members, and it will be so. Or contrariwise, a single permanent member can veto the next voted extension three years from now, in December, 2019. That is to say, Ambassador Nikki Haley, representing the United States.

It will be pointed out hysterically at that point that -- like the Paris Agreement -- the rest of the world can continue supporting this noble cause without America and the formal backing of the UN, which is perfectly true. But with so many calls on their various public purses, they'll talk big and act small, if at all.

RAB arrests garment factory owner for funding New JMB
[Dhaka Tribune] Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday night tossed in the clink
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
a garments factory owner, said to be a financier, recruiter and a safe house provider of the banned bully boy outfit the New JMB, from Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district.

Imran Ahmed, 37, was the Dawat-e-Ameer (recruiter) of the banned bully boy outfit’s Dhaka Metropolitan (West) Unit. He is the managing director of Jim Tex amd associated with the Sarwar-Tamim Group of New JMB, said RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan.

RAB’s Mufti said Imran financed the weapons and explosives procurement of the JMB military unit, paid the passport fees for New JMB members, and also financially supported the families of members who were in prison.

"He gave Junoon Sikdar money and a passport that helped him to escape the country," Mufti said.

Junoon, originally from Comilla and a computer science student in a private university in Dhaka, was arrested by police in 2009 under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

He was again arrested in 2013 for his alleged links with Ansarullah Bangla Team, the offshoot of the al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent. A known recruiter of the jihadi group, he was later released on bail and left for Malaysia.

"Imran also provided a safe house in Mohakhali for an escapee called Sajid of the infamous bully boy den of Atia Mahal in Sylhet. Sajid has many aliases, including Kamran, Lal Bhai, Habibur Rahman, Mamun and Rashid. This man is an important person in the bully boy organization having close ties to the central Ameer of New JMB, Abu Muharib," added RAB’s Legal and Media Wing director.

RAB also arrested Imran’s driver and associate Md Shamim Mia, 29, from the same place on Saturday night.

Shamim aided Imran by ferrying various packages and money to members of the New JMB, said RAB.

"After the primary interrogation, Imran has admitted to being part of the bully boy outfit. We have also discovered that he was the recruitment coordinator in 10 districts, including Bogra, Comilla, Cox’s Bazar and Rajshahi," RAB’s Mufti said.

Mufti added that it takes almost 10 years to become an ameer in the banned bully boy organization

5 ISIS Turbans have a Very Bad Day

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Five Islamic State members were killed east of al-Razaza lake, south of Anbar province, a military source from Anbar Operations Command said on Sunday.

“Army troops in coordination with international coalition jets attacked the al-Abar region, east of al-Razaza, south of the province,” the source told AlSumaria News.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said “troops, with support from coalition jets, killed five Islamic State militants.”

Anbar’s western towns of Annah, Qaim and Rawa have been held by the extremist group since 2014, when it emerged to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate.

Fighter jets from the Iraqi army and the international coalition have regularly pounded IS locations in the province. The Iraqi government plans a military operation to liberate those regions once it finishes its almost eight-month-old campaign to retake the city of Mosul, Islamic State’s largest stronghold in Iraq.

In April, Qutri al-Obeidi, a leader with the paramilitary al-Hashd al-Shaabi troops said IS members were evacuated from Rawa town towards Qaim after the leaders ordered the fighters, along with their families, to leave due to intensified airstrikes.

Earlier in March, reports indicated possible joint operations by the Iraqi and U.S. forces to clear the three towns located near the borders with Syria.

4 ISIS Bad Guys die in airstrike in Rawa

Rawa (IraqiNews.com) Four Islamic State militants were killed on Sunday when Iraqi warplanes pounded their weapons factory in western Anbar, according to a paramilitary leader.

Qutri al-Obeidi, a leader at the Popular Mobilization in Anbar, told Almaalomah website that the warplanes bombarded a booby-trapping and weapons manufacturing workshop in the town of Rawa, west of Anbar.

He said the factory also included underground tunnels linking the area to other nearby workshops.

Anbar’s western towns of Annah, Qaim and Rawa have been held by the extremist group since 2014, when it emerged to proclaim a self-styled Islamic “Caliphate”.

Fighter jets from the Iraqi army and the international coalition have also regularly pounded IS locations in the province. The Iraqi government is expected to aim at those strongholds once the Mosul battle is concluded.

Violence and armed conflicts left 824 Iraqis dead and wounded during the month of May, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq which excludes security members deaths

ISIS HQ wrecked in airstrike

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Commander of Anbar Operations, Major General Mahmoud al-Falahi announced, on Sunday, that a key headquarters belonging to the Islamic State was destroyed by an air strike, south of the province.

Falahi said in a press statement that the international coalition air force managed, today, to destroy a main headquarters belonging to the Islamic State, on the banks of al-Razaza Lake, south of Anbar.

The headquarters included hideouts, and barrels containing explosive materials, Falahi added.

The international coalition air strike killed 7 terrorists inside the headquarters, while security forces seized 6 motorcycles and dismantled 21 improvised explosive devices, Falahi explained.

Noteworthy, Islamic State militants are frequently trying to sneak into al-Razaza Lake, while forces from the army’s 8th brigade manage to foil these attempts.

Britain
Look how diverse our dead are! London police chief touts ‘diversity' of the terror victims
My apologies -- that should have been filed under Britain, and I missed it. Fixed now.

-- trailing wife at 3:50 p.m.m EDT
[BizPacReview] This is what happens to a nation when political correctness usurps common sense.

And if the left has its way, it could come to America.

Commissioner of the London Metropolitan Police, Cressida Dick, spoke on Saturday about the victims of the June 3 London terror attacks, and her comments infuriated many on social media.

"It’s desperately sad and poignant but among those who died is someone who’s British, there are French, Australian, Canadian, Spanish," she told the Associated Press.

"In terms of our witnesses that we’ve spoken to so far, out of the 300-odd people, there are about 20 different countries of origin. And the London British population comes from all kinds of backgrounds and every kind of faith and ethnicity," she continued.

But it was her next statement made by the 56-year-old, who became the first female police chief of the city in April, that made her the target of scorn on social media.

"We believe of course that that’s what makes our city so great," Dick aid. "It’s a place where the vast majority of time it’s incredibly integrated and that diversity gives us strength."

That must give a great sense of comfort to the families that had to bury their loved ones.

You had to bury the people you love but, hey, at least they were murdered as a sacrifice on the altar of politically correct diversity.
The comments are worth the visit.

#5  A good way to end this period is to inject liquid lard into the terrorist remains. For those who blew themselves to pieces, gather as much of the remains as they can and soak them in liquid lard. Afterward, give the larded remains to whatever mosque will take them for burial. If no one will take them, then cremate the remains and dump them in the landfill or wherever.

Publicize the entire process. Once the terrorists realize they will not get to go to paradise, they'll quit doing this.

They're terrorists, they get no respect!

Arabia
Kuwait says Qatar ready for talks as Bahrain moves to freeze assets
[Iran Press TV] The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry says Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
is prepared to enter negotiations aimed at solving the diplomatic row with Arab countries as Bahrain’s central bank has issued orders freezing assets and bank accounts of Qatar-linked entities.

Over the past week, Kuwait has been playing the role of mediator between Qatar and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates who broke off relations with Doha and suspended all land, air and sea traffic with the monarchy. In their apparent bid to secure US support and that of Israel, the four countries cited Qatar's links with Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, and accused it of supporting terrorism.

"(Kuwait) affirms the readiness of the brothers in Qatar to understand the reality of the qualms and concerns of their brothers and to heed the noble endeavors to enhance security and stability," said Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah on Sunday.

"The state of Kuwait will not abandon its efforts and will continue its good will efforts to patch the rift and find a solution that will deal with the root cause of the causes of the dispute... in the brotherly relations," he added. "Kuwait stresses the inevitability of solving this disagreement within the Persian Gulf framework," he added. He went on to tell news hounds that his country will carry on mediating between the two sides until their differences are resolved.

Last week, Kuwait’s emir traveled to Qatar after his visits to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as part of his efforts to help mediate a solution to the diplomatic row among Arab countries.

Bahrain freezes Qatar bank accounts
Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Don Smilzo looked for an avenue of escape. The only window opened a hundred feet above the moat. The nearest of the hired assassins hold a bloody axe.
The window was looking better all the time....

Bahrain’s central bank has issued orders freezing assets and bank accounts of Qatar-linked entities.

"The central bank issued a directive to all the financial institutions licensed in the kingdom of Bahrain to freeze accounts, cash, deposits, investments, insurance policies and all the financial transactions of the individuals and entities that were on the terrorism list," read a statement released by the central bank.

It also ordered the banks to provide any further information about the individuals to the government.

Four captured Maute militants killed in ambush
[Rappler] At least four Maute militants died early Saturday evening after an ambush on a police convoy that was supposed to bring them to Cagayan de Oro City.

According to a police report, the convoy was at the boundary of Balo-i and Pantar towns in the province of Lanao del Norte when they were ambushed by an "unknown group." At least three policemen were reportedly wounded as a result of the ambush.

Four Maute militants were reportedly brought to a nearby hospital for treatment, but pictures taken right after the attack show at least one dead body on a police vehicle.

A source confirmed that the convoy was transporting Maute militants who were arrested Thursday night, along with Farhana Maute, the mother of the Maute brothers who are among the leaders of the attack in Marawi City. Top defense officials confirmed it during a press conference in Cagayan de Oro City on Sunday.

Farhana had been immediately moved out of Lanao del Sur last Friday.

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edition

Another ISIS prison found in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraq’s Ministry of Defense said Sunday that army forces had run into a prison in Mosul where Islamic State militants had used lock up women from the Yazidi religious minority.

The prison was found at the 17 Tamuz (July 17th) district in western Mosul, one of the districts which Iraqi forces have recaptured from the militants since it launched an offensive in February to retake the western side of the city.

Iraqi forces are currently besieging IS members in western Mosul’s Old City, the place from where the group first declared the establishment of an Islamist “caliphate” in 2014. Troops have discovered several mass graves of Iraqi citizens and security members, as well as prison facilities where IS has tortured on locked up Iraqis from all ethnicities and religious identities.

Many Yazidis, whose beliefs combine elements of several Middle Eastern religions, were persecuted and held in Mosul by Islamic State, which considered them devil-worshippers.

At least 9,900 of Iraq’s Yazidis were killed or kidnapped in just days in an Islamic State attack in 2014, according to a rare study that documented the number of Yazidis affected.

About 3,100 Yazidis were killed – with more than half shot, beheaded or burned alive – and about 6,800 kidnapped to become sex slaves or fighters, according to the report published in the Public Library of Science journal PLoS Medicine.

Popular Mobilization Units, the paramilitary force fighting IS alongside the government, said a few weeks ago they had liberated Yazidi habitats west of Mosul.

ISIS kidnaps 60 Mosul families

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants kidnapped 60 families from western Mosul district, a source from Federal Police said on Sunday.

“As the group retreated in al-Shifa district, the militants kidnapped 60 families from the district while the security troops were advancing,” Col. Khodeir Saleh told BasNews.

“The abducted families were taken to the Old City and prevented from fleeing toward the troops,” he added.

Federal Police forces, according to Saleh, “besiege the region from all sides. 27 militants were killed in al-Shifa district during the confrontations.”

Earlier on Saturday, the Iraqi government forces recaptured Zanjili district in western Mosul, leaving only one district of al-Shifa in Islamic State’ grip before reaching its strategic stronghold in the Old City neighborhood.

News reports mentioned that dozens of civilians were killed either during the battles or while fleeing over the past few days. Number of the victims has not been identified yet.

IS fighters have both shot at and executed civilians attempting to flee areas under their control, according to aid groups and security officials who also said that civilians are being used as human shields.

The eastern side of Mosul city was liberated in January after three months of battles. Another offensive was launched in February to liberate the western flank of the city.

India-Pakistan
Guidelines to curb terror financing
[DAWN] THE State Bank has just updated its rules for banks so they can be more diligent about handling funds that could be connected with persons or entities designated by the UN as terrorists. The move is obviously linked to the upcoming review of Pakistain’s compliance with global money laundering and anti-terror financing regulations that is due in July. It will be conducted by the Financial Action Task Force, the UN body tasked with developing the regulatory architecture to prevent the use of the banking system by bully boyz and criminals. The costs of failing such a review can potentially be high and lead to the disconnection of the country’s financial system from the global financial system, making it impossible for the economy to transact with the outside world. There is little chance that Pakistain will land up there in the near future, but it is a slippery slope; one wrong step can have very damaging consequences -- which could mean a terrible hit for our external trade and remittances.

A drama has always played out whenever Pakistain’s case has come up for review before the FATF -- the last time was in February 2015 when the country was actually removed from the ’grey list’ of jurisdictions whose financial system pose a risk to the global financial system. The drama preceding this was linked to the unfinished business of ensuring compliance with the regulatory framework created by the FATF, to which Pakistain is a signatory. The unfinished business has to do with certain individuals and entities that have been designated by the UN body as terrorists, but who roam freely, with some openly operating large organizations and charities that collect donations across the country -- work that requires the use of the banking system.

Pakistain managed a step forward in 2015 because it gave a commitment to the FATF to move against these groups before the next review due in July. Of course, that commitment was never delivered on; a small step towards sensitising key stakeholders about the importance of the issue led to the outbreak of civil-military tensions that have only recently subsided. Now we are moving towards another review when Pakistain will be asked again whether action has been taken against the designated groups as it is committed to doing -- perhaps, a long-winded answer will have to be furnished. It is in preparation for this review that the State Bank has apparently acted to update its regulations and guidelines, bringing in clauses that hew closer to the requirements mandated by international regulatory authorities. It seems the government is preparing to go back to the FATF with yet another ’commitment’ to take action -- at a later date -- against designated terrorist groups, hoping this will be enough to get past the referee until the next review.
