Obama Gets $400,000 A Pop For Wall Street Speeches
"At some point, you've made enough money." Who's gonna believe that poppycock?
[Bloomberg] Hillary Clinton says she made a mistake when she gave speeches on Wall Street after leaving government. Taking money from banks, she writes in her new memoir, created the impression she was in their pocket.

Her old boss doesn’t seem to share her concern.

Last month, just before her book "What Happened" was published, Barack Obama spoke in New York to clients of Northern Trust Corp. for about $400,000, a person familiar with his appearance said. Last week, he reminisced about the White House for Carlyle Group LP, one of the world’s biggest private equity firms, according to two people who were there. Next week, he’ll give a keynote speech at investment bank Cantor Fitzgerald LP’s health-care conference.

Man Who Saved the World From Nuclear Armageddon in 1983 Dies at 77
On September 26, 1983, Soviet military officer Stanislav Petrov received a message that five nuclear missiles had been launched by the United States and were heading to Moscow. He didn’t launch a retaliatory strike, believing correctly that it was a false alarm. And with that, he saved the world from nuclear war. But now reports have surfaced that Petrov died this past May. He was 77 years old.

Karl Schumacher, a political activist in Germany, was one of the first people to publicize Petrov’s story back in the late 1990s. But Schumacher reportedly learned of Petrov’s death this month after contacting Petrov’s home. Petrov’s son Dmitry reported that the man who saved the world all those years ago had died on May 19, 2017. Schumacher confirmed Petrov’s death to Gizmodo this morning.

Lt. Col. Stanislav Petrov was 44 years old and working at a missile detection bunker south of Moscow on September 26, 1983. His computer told him that five nuclear missiles were on their way, and given their flight time, he had just 20 minutes to launch a counter attack. But Petrov told his superior officers that it was a false alarm. He had absolutely no real evidence that this was true, but it probably saved millions of lives.

"The siren howled, but I just sat there for a few seconds, staring at the big, back-lit, red screen with the word ’launch’ on it," Petrov told the BBC’s Russian Service back in 2013.

"I had all the data [to suggest there was an ongoing missile attack]. If I had sent my report up the chain of command, nobody would have said a word against it," Petrov said.

"There was no rule about how long we were allowed to think before we reported a strike. But we knew that every second of procrastination took away valuable time; that the Soviet Union’s military and political leadership needed to be informed without delay," he told the BBC.

"All I had to do was to reach for the phone; to raise the direct line to our top commanders‐but I couldn’t move. I felt like I was sitting on a hot frying pan," Petrov said.

Perhaps importantly, Petrov noted that he was the only officer around that day who had received a civilian education. Everyone else were professional soldiers and he believed that they would have simply reported the attack at face value. The men around him were "taught to give and obey orders." Luckily, Petrov disobeyed what simply didn’t feel right to him.

Petrov reasoned that if the Americans were going to launch a first strike they’d send more than five missiles, despite the fact that they could still do an enormous amount of damage. He also believed that since the alert system was relatively new it seemed likely that it could be sending a false alarm.

If Petrov had been wrong, he would have compromised the Soviet Union’s ability to retaliate against a nuclear strike. But if he was right, World War III would be averted. Thankfully, he was right. And sadly, his wasn’t the first, nor the last, close call that the world has seen. The Cold War saw far too many false alarms triggered by everything from a computer simulation in 1979to a NATO military exercise in 1983, just two months after Petrov’s false alarm. And then there was the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 and the Captain who defied his direct orders.

It’s truly amazing that the world survived the Cold War. And it’ll be even more amazing if we survive the current missile crisis that’s heating up on the Korean peninsula.

Rest in peace, Stanislav Petrov. You may not have gotten the recognition you deserved in life, but hopefully you’ll be remembered in death. Those of us living in the 21st century owe you a tremendous debt. And the best most of us can do is hope that the nuclear powers of the world learn something from your heroism.

Getting Rid of La Raza
h/t Instapundit
Ever heard of La Raza? Probably not, but you and other taxpayers are funding it.

We shouldn’t be. Along with public broadcasters, environmental organizations, and other entities that use taxpayer money to keep insider networks in power, ethnic identity groups should be taken off public support. These movements have for decades lived off the government only to keep enlarging it, maintaining power in the hands of a self-dealing bureaucratic elite increasingly unaccountable and disconnected from outside society.

La Raza‐recently renamed UnidosUS‐is a case in point. Set up in 1968 with a grant from the Ford Foundation (which also helped create other movements), La Raza has always been more boardroom than barrio. It depends for its survival not on grassroots, but on government contracts and kickbacks, and grants from foundations and the corporations it can shake down.

This corporate and government coziness doesn’t mean that La Raza hasn’t been a divisive force in society. On the contrary, it’s been so from the beginning, and the balkanization it has caused has benefited elites.

No less a liberal lion than U.S. Representative Henry Gonzalez of Texas took to the floor of the House on April 22, 1969, to decry the Ford Foundation’s creation of "a very grave problem" in his district. "I cannot accept the belief that racism in reverse is the answer for racism and discrimination," he said.

Brown University will offer segregated student dinners for black, Muslim students
[CollegeFix] To promote "racial reconciliation" after the deadly clashes between white nationalists and counterprotesters in Charlottesville last month, Brown University plans to offer segregated events to its black students and female Muslim students.

The university received a $30,000 grant from the Association of American Colleges and Universities, which represents liberal arts schools, to create a campus center whose mission is to "break down racial hierarchies and create a positive narrative about race in the community," according to The Brown Daily Herald.

These grants, provided with the assistance of the Newman’s Own Foundation and W.K. Kellogg Foundation, will go towards hosting racially and religiously segregated "dinner discussion groups." These discussions are being led by Brown University Chaplain Rev. Janet Cooper Nelson, who told The Daily that "one [group will be] for black students and the other [will be for] for Muslim women on campus."

What Happened in Clinton Emails ?
[Powerline] Hillary Clinton devotes one chapter of What Happened to her use of a private email setup to conduct the official business of the United States. Jack Shafer suffered through it to spare others the pain. His account is posted at Politico under the headline "Hillary Clinton is sorry, not sorry." As I read the quotes that Shafer serves up, Clinton reiterates all the evasions she served up during the campaign. She continues to "take responsibility" for her lying and misconduct, although she doesn’t put it that way.

The State Department continues slowly to roll out the emails under court order in the lawsuit brought by Judicial Watch under the Freedom of Information Act. Last week Judicial Watch released an additional 1,617 pages procured through its FOIA lawsuits along with an accompanying cheat sheet declaring "It’s amateur hour at State." Judicial Watch emphasizes the additional evidence of classified information on display.

The New York Post devotes an editorial to the newly released emails. The editorial notes that the emails show Clinton Foundation honcho Doug Band "working with Clinton aide Huma Abedin to get favors for donors, from visas to Cuba to meetings in Singapore."

UK study resolves age-old question: Link between anti-Israel and antisemitic views confirmed
[LI] A joint report released last week by the Institute of Jewish Policy Research (JPR), a London-based think tank, and the Community Security Trust (CST), the communal Jewish defense body in the UK, found an "unambiguous association" between antisemitic and anti-Israel attitudes in Britain.

The report‐an in-depth investigation and analysis of animus toward Jews, the role of hatred directed toward Israel, and the prevalence of bigotry across the political spectrum in Britain today‐makes for a sobering read.

It’s the first major study of British attitudes to demonstrate with "pure, hard empiricism" what many Jews and others have been saying for a long time, namely the fact that there’s a tight empirical connection between a hatred of Israel and a hatred of Jews.

Absolutely correct. Central London is no longer British in terms of white native Europeans there. It is grubby and the white population is moving out quickly, akin to white South Africans. My Brother in Law lives 80 miles away and wonders why so many Londoners are moving to his small town, causing property prices to spiral upwards. I told him, but he still doesn't get it. The war continues but only one side knows what it is fighting for and what is at stake.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Hackers Hid Backdoor In CCleaner Security App With 2 Billion Downloads -- 2.3 Million Infected
Users of Avast-owned security application CCleaner for Windows have been advised to update their software immediately, after researchers discovered criminal hackers had installed a backdoor in the tool. The tainted application allows for download of further malware, be it ransomware or keyloggers, with fears millions are affected. According to Avast's own figures, 2.27 million ran the affected software, though the company said users should not panic.

The affected app, CCleaner, is a maintenance and file clean-up software run by a subsidiary of anti-virus giant Avast. It has 2 billion downloads and claims to be getting 5 million extra a week, making the threat particularly severe, researchers at Cisco Talos warned. Comparing it to the NotPetya ransomware outbreak, which spread after a Ukrainian accounting app was infected, the researchers discovered the threat on September 13 after CCleaner 5.33 caused Talos systems to flag malicious activity.

Further investigation found the CCleaner download server was hosting the backdoored app as far back as September 11. Talos warned in a blog Monday that the affected version was released on August 15, but on September 12 an untainted version 5.34 was released. For weeks then, the malware was spreading inside supposedly-legitimate security software.

The malware would send encrypted information about the infected computer - the name of the computer, installed software and running processes - back to the hackers' server. The hackers also used what's known as a domain generation algorithm (DGA); whenever the crooks' server went down, the DGA could create new domains to receive and send stolen data. Use of DGAs shows some sophistication on the part of the attackers.

CCleaner's owner, Avast-owned Piriform, has sought to ease concerns. Paul Yung, vice president of product at Piriform, wrote in a post Monday: "Based on further analysis, we found that the 5.33.6162 version of CCleaner and the 1.07.3191 version of CCleaner Cloud was illegally modified before it was released to the public, and we started an investigation process.

-War on Police-
More than 80 people arrested in St. Louis during 3rd night of protests
[ABC] Dozens of people were arrested in St. Louis on Sunday, including a "rioter" who carried weapons and protective gear, which capped a third night of protests over a judge's decision to acquit a white former police officer in the 2011 shooting death of a black man, police said.

The protests began peacefully on Friday after St. Louis Circuit Judge Timothy Wilson found Jason Stockley, 36, not guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. On Dec. 20, 2011, the then-police officer shot 24-year-old Lamar Smith five times after a high-speed chase and crash.

More than 80 people were arrested on Sunday in connection with the protests, which police said were "no longer peaceful" as of late Saturday night, and five weapons were confiscated, according to the St. Louis Police Department. At least 32 people were arrested earlier in the weekend as demonstrators blocked highways, damaged property and threw rocks at the mayor's house and bricks at police officers, police said.

"People setting out do damage are being arrested and these criminals we've arrested should be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," St. Louis Interim Police Chief Lawrence O’Toole said in a early-morning briefing on Monday.

"We're in control. This is our city and we're going to protect it," he added.

An unidentified chemical was thrown on police officers and a bicycle officer was transported to the hospital with an leg injury Sunday night, police said in a statement on Twitter.

The department also tweeted images of knives, guns, masks and other types of protective gear from a "rioter" who police said was arrested.

Chelsea Handler says Ben Carson, Sheriff Clarke are ‘black white supremacists'
[Right Scoop] Self-proclaimed comedienne Chelsea Handler4had a pretty unfunny preview for her attempts at political comedy. At the end of the clip, she accuses Ben Carson and former Sheriff David Clarke of being "black white supremacists."

Uh, I am no fan of either of these guys, but Handler offers absolutely no reasoning as to why they’re supposed to be white supremacists. I guess just because they support Trump that’s what she can call them? That’s just idiotic and emblematic of the extreme rhetoric of the left.

This kind of normalization of irrational thinking is very insidious, and is exactly why we can’t depend on celebrities to tell us what to think. Being entertaining appears to be mostly mutually exclusive with being an insightful and useful thinker or opinion-maker.

#6  In 1993, Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D., N.Y.) coined the phrase “defining deviancy down.”* Moynihan’s thesis was that, as a society, America has been “re-defining deviancy” so as to exempt conduct previously stigmatized, and quietly raising the “normal” level for behavior that was abnormal by earlier standards.

DPM was one of the most intelligent Democrats that we have ever had, and quite possibly the last one. Normalization of the abnormal is just a variant conclusion. The increase in what once was seen as deviancy has provided opportunity to a wide spectrum of interest groups that benefit from re-defining the problem as essentially normal …”

Follow the money is always good advice.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Former VA Surgeon: Here's How The VA Manipulates Stats To Make Hospitals Look Good
[Daily Caller] A surgeon who worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for decades is alleging that hospital administrators across the country are manipulating statistics on patient mortality rates to increase facility ratings and gain bonuses.

Dr. Michael Mann, a professor of surgery and director of the Cardiothoracic Translational Research Lab at the University of California, San Francisco, told The Daily Caller News Foundation in a wide-ranging interview that he felt compelled to write a book published earlier this year called "Mission Betrayed" on the systemic problems at the VA after he was terminated from the San Francisco VA system in 2011. This termination, Mann says, occurred after he started questioning policies prohibiting surgeries on high-risk patients.

These systemic problems revolve around a system called the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), which compares patient mortality rates across VA hospitals in the U.S. According to Mann, hospital administrators frequently deny surgery for high-risk patients in order to improve VA mortality statistics. Those statistics are then used to justify bonuses at the local level for those same administrators.

-War on Police-
Manhattan College Professor in Trouble for Sending Message About 'Future Dead Cops'
[Townhall] Michael Isaacson, an economics professor at Manhattan's John Jay College of Criminal Justice, has been placed on administrative leave for a tweet he sent on August 23. In it, he appeared to suggest that violence against cops was simply a fact of life.

"Some of y’all might think it sucks being an anti-fascist teaching at John Jay College but I think it’s a privilege to teach future dead cops," he wrote at the time.

Unlucky for Isaacson, who is also a leader of the Antifa movement, police union officials saw the tweet, followed by school officials.

John Jay President Karol Mason responded swiftly, knowing exactly what to do.
"Today, members of the John Jay faculty received threats, and our students expressed concerns for their safety in the classroom," Mason said. "Out of concern for the safety of our students, faculty and staff, we are immediately placing the adjunct on administrative leave as we continue to review this matter."
After his suspension, Isaacson offered a non-apology, before making a sarcastic comment about his right to "free speech."
"My biggest regret is putting my students and the John Jay faculty and staff at risk. That was not a risk that they assumed voluntarily, and that very much contravenes my political convictions," he told The News. "I deeply apologize to the John Jay community for making them the target of death threats and harassment."

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, however, condemned Isaacson's rhetoric.

Stunning poll reveals widespread backlash against refugee immigration in developed countries
[American Thinker] Citizens seem to understand more than their leaders in most Western democracies. Here's a stunning poll that shows the depth of popular opposition to anything-goes migration - with the sentiment the same across the developed world. According to this global study from Ipsos-MORI, cited by Breitbart London, a majority of the population in 25 countries finds immigration a major concern, and most citizens are doubtful about migrant claims to being refugees.
In every single nation surveyed a plurality thought that immigration had had a negative effect. An average of 48 per cent said there are too many immigrants in their countries, against 21 per cent who believe there are not.

A majority in most countries also question if refugees are genuine, believe terrorists are posing as refugees, and think border controls should be tightened
.
Breitbart noted that the sharpest shift came from Sweden. Apparently, people aren't as thrilled as their leaders are about a Uniworld Utopia, knowing what migrants are like and what their costs cost them. Note also that Turkey, a nation with a strong national identity, casts an especially baleful eye on unchecked, unvetted and undocumented migrants overrunning their country.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Obama's Iran Deal bears Fruit...For Hezbollah...What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
Moved to Page 4
[Ace of Spades] Iran pays $830 million to Hezbollah.
Two years after the nuclear deal was signed by Iran and world powers, the Islamic Republic is reported to have boosted its financial support to Hezbollah to $800 million a year, a dramatic increase from the $200m. it was said to be giving its proxy when sanctions were in place.
It was absolute insanity to release funding to Iran, who has been supporting terrorism around the world, specifically targeted against America and Israel. Obama and his handlers were either profoundly ignorant of the reality of Iran's support for terror, or were well aware and simply chose to ignore it in some vanity-driven desire to be seen by the international peace community as important players in World PeaceTM. There is a third possibility, that they knew quite well that Hezbollah would be energized and funded, and that was part of the plan.
According to IDF assessments, while Hezbollah has increased its military capabilities due to its fighting in Syria, the group has spread its troops across the entire Middle East and is hurting financially.

The finances of the Lebanese Shi'ite group, designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by dozens of countries around the globe, also has been hit hard due to years of sanctions by the United States.

Well then, since Hezbollah has been hurt by our sanctions, let's continue Obama's waiver!

The US and European countries lifted sanctions against Iran in January 2016, releasing roughly $100 billion in assets after international inspectors found that Iran had dismantled large parts of its nuclear program. According to US media, officials say President Donald Trump is ready to extend those waivers that were issued under the Obama administration.

I sure hope that's not the case....

Home Front: Culture Wars
Radicalism challenges American tradition
[American Thinker] For news junkies, there is one consistent story at the moment: an ongoing and systematic attack on President Trump from without and within. On the outside is a web of the Fourth Estate, the Democratic Party, the Republican Establishment, the Academy and Corporate America that see in the president a threat to the prevailing left-wing cultural agenda. On the inside are the reformers who by dint of influence persuaded the president to rid his staff of Trump partisans so that the administration is essentially anti-Trump in ideology and orientation.

Notwithstanding the internal purge, anti-Trump campaigners foment fear about the White House and the often erratic and impulsive behavior of the president. Here is a Watermelon alliance (where the green is for Islam and the red is for communism) of Islamists and left-wing ideologues that recognizes their victory will come only after American ideals and political identity are destroyed. The major tactic this alliance employs in cultural battle is reducing American groups to silos of sex, race, and class. Categorical rights, in the emerging scenario, will replace individual rights, even though this is manifestly in opposition to Constitutional principles.

Defense analyst Steve Coughlin, among others, has argued for years that political warfare of the jeft operates under the cover of nonviolent methods ultimately designed to undermine morale and serve as a prelude to violent action. The game plan was organized by Antonio Gramci in the 1920s and is still used as the operational perspective against Trump. In fact, as George Orwell pointed out, the language of political discourse must turn logic on its head. Tolerance is seen as intolerance, war as peace, truth as domination. Through these postmodern constructs, Islamist groups can reach a modus vivendi with the revolutionaries even though policy narratives have them in different camps.

President Trump dubs North Korean leader ‘Rocket Man'
[The Hill] President Trump in a tweet early Sunday dubbed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un "Rocket Man," adding that long gas lines in the nation are "[t]oo bad!"

"I spoke with President Moon [Jae-in] of South Korea last night," the president wrote.

"Asked him how Rocket Man is doing. Long gas lines forming in North Korea. Too bad!"

The White House said Trump and Moon discussed North Korea’s recent intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launches during a call on Saturday.
"The two leaders noted that North Korea continues to defy the international community, even after the United Nations strongly condemned North Korea’s repeated provocations twice in the past week," the White House said in a statement.

"President Trump and President Moon committed to continuing to take steps to strengthen deterrence and defense capabilities and to maximize economic and diplomatic pressure on North Korea," it added. "The two leaders noted that they will continue their close consultations next week when they meet on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly."

A South Korean official said the leaders agreed on the need for stronger sanctions against North Korea during their call, Reuters reported.

Feinstein Defends ‘Dogma' Questioning of Catholic Judicial Nominee
[Free Beacon] Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) defended her questioning of a Catholic judicial nominee where she said the "dogma" lives within her, saying Sunday the judge's past writings were "questionable."

During a confirmation hearing on Sept. 6 for federal judge nominee and Notre Dame law professor Amy Coney Barrett, Feinstein said Barrett's past writings showed the "dogma lives loudly within you."

That comment and Sen. Dick Durbin's (D., Ill.) question of whether Barrett was an "orthodox Catholic" stoked criticism from the right and the left for giving a religious test to President Donald Trump's nominee.

Bringing up the controversy Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union," host Dana Bash asked Feinstein for an explanation for her remarks.

Feinstein said she was a product of Catholic education and called it a "great religion," touting she's tried to be helpful to the church anywhere she could.

However, she said, the nominee in this case had no trial or court experience and thus "no record."

Vikings, Women Warriors, Screeching Feminists and Toxic Masculinity
Yes, this subject brought out all the nuts.

BACKGROUND: Over the years, a number of Viking era graves were found with swords. The base assumption was that these were all males, and military. A lot of us always insisted this was a false assumption. Swords were often a mark of rank and wealth (and still are). It meant the interred was of status, not necessarily a warrior.

Then, some DNA tests showed a lot of them were actually female.

This is where the screeching harpies came in with their popular conspiracy that there were literally thousands of women in this and every generation who were doing the things men did, and then somehow erased from history so no one would ever know, over and over. This is of course, ridiculous on several levels.

Then the small-dicks got into it because obviously, no woman ever measured up, so the females had swords as marks of rank, but the men were still probably warriors.

So here's the problem with that: If the sword is the mark of a martial person, you don't present it to a non-martial person, except to honor them for something martial. (Much like the US has civilian and military decorations, and civilians can't earn the military ones, except for a rare handful like the Civilian Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, who fought as combatants because there was no choice).

Once again, as a lot of us said, those swords were badges of rank, and may or may not indicate the owner was ever part of the military caste, or ever fought.

The Sagas and other documents record a small number of women fighting as combatants in the Viking Era. Let's go through them one at a time:

...So now we come to a recent, fully documented instance:

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ajpa.23308/full

So, this burial does contain a sword. It also contains an ax, a large langseax that is purely a weapon, not a tool, a two handed axe, a spear, two shields, bodkin tipped arrows, stirrups and two entire horses.

It was first called a male warrior's grave. Then someone observed the pelvis was probably female. Then it was genetically proven the occupant was female.

Then all of a sudden it wasn't a warrior's grave at all.

Within seconds of me posting this link on my wall, one individual had a complete, screaming, online meltdown. I strongly suspect he actually crapped his pants.

#1  Some time ago, I recall a discovery of a Dark Ages-era cemetery in England. Due to the residents' size--bigger than the average for the time--it was presumed they were upper class.
But were they monks or nobles? That would be determined forensically. Nobles would show evidence of battle wounds, possibly the last one, and various which had healed.
So, let's see if this woman's skeleton shows evidence of actual fighting.

Orwellian Nice Guys
h/t Instapundit
We live in a time, dear readers, when things are becoming rather Orwellian. Yes, yes, I know. It’s cliche. Everybody says that, even the Leftists I often excoriate. Hillary Clinton herself suggested that Nineteen Eighty-Four was about people being convinced to distrust their leaders. The absurdity of this is obvious, but in the minds of those who read her book, it is already fact. Donald Trump is Big Brother. Or maybe he is Goldstein. It doesn’t matter. None of it matters. Objective reality is an oppressive illusion of the white cisheteropatriarchy anyway.

...Nice guy disease infects our society like a bubonic plague of the mind. It is there when a man refuses to discipline his child for fear of being seen as mean. It is with us when the TV sputters on and some talking head lectures us about the evils of white privilege. And with weaponized empathy, it is in every politically-charged photograph shared on social media. It is the Syrian child washed up on the shore, it is General Nguyen Ngoc Loan shooting a Viet Cong captured near a mass grave of civilian victims, a context lost on those for whom the picture was a mere weapon.

...Let me say it again: there will be no utopia of man. Not now. Not ever. Any man out there making such utopian claims ought to be dismissed as a liar, or committed to the asylum for treatment. It is an insane belief. Everything must begin with the assumption that men are flawed, sinful beings who will make terrible mistakes. We are no angels, and no angels may be found among us.

...That’s what it comes down to, dear readers. The tyrants are concerned only with power, the useful idiots are in their thrall because they want so badly to believe that they are smart, that they have the answers, a fiction the tyrants find useful to their cause. And then there are those of us who just don’t know. Maybe we’ve faith in something, maybe not. But in the tradition of Socrates, we know we are not wise. And what a difference that makes on a man’s outlook on life.

...I’m tired of nice, my friends. I’ve no use for it. Nice is why we are here; how we got to such lunacy. I don’t have all the answers, folks. I never did, and I never will. But one thing I know is true: since we live in a fallen world, the idea that we can nice-guy our way out of every problem is a category error. It cannot be. Anyone who demands this of us is either a tyrant, or one of their stooges, and deserves our contempt.
Holy State or Holy King--
Or Holy People's Will--
Have no truck with the senseless thing.
Order the guns and kill!

Buddhists to Rohingya: Leave, or we will kill you all
[Iran Press TV] Thousands of Rohingya Moslems in northwestern Myanmar are pleading for safe passage from two remote villages besieged by Buddhist bully boys.

Media reports said the situation was particularly dire in the village of Ah Nauk Pyin and the nearby Naung Pin Gyi, where any escape route to neighboring Bangladesh is long and arduous.

Maung Maung, a Rohingya official in Ah Nauk Pyin, said the villagers were resigned to leaving, but authorities had not responded to their requests for security. "We’ll starve soon and they’re threatening to burn down our houses," he told Rooters by telephone. "We’re terrified."

Another Rohingya, who asked not to be named, said bully boy Buddhists came to the same village and chanted, "Leave, or we will kill you all."
Elsewhere in his remarks, Maung Maung, said he had called Myanmar's police at least 30 times to report threats against his village.

On September 13, the Rohingya official said he had received a call from a Rakhine villager he knew. "Leave tomorrow or we’ll come and burn down all your houses," the man on the phone had said. When the Rohingya official protested that they had no means to escape, the man replied, "That’s not our problem."

Maung Maung also said the village elders had sent a letter to Rathedaung authorities on September 7, asking to be moved to "another place". They had yet to receive a response, he said.

On August 31, Myanmar's police convened a roadside meeting between the two villages. Rohingya residents who attended the meeting said that instead of addressing the Rohingya complaints, the Rakhine officials delivered an ultimatum.

#3  Good lord. What do you have to do to piss off Buddhists?

Buddhists aren't a bunch of lotus-eating navel gazers. Thailand was a fairly aggressive military power for part of its history. Ditto with Vietnam, Burma, Cambodia, Tibet, Mongolia and China. What they have in common with Hinduism is the idea of reincarnation. When they kill someone, he's not really dead - at least not for eternity. He'll come back as something else. What they do have in common is a pre-modern view of war in general and rebellions in particular.

Civilians that are suspected of providing support for the rebels will be punished. That can mean imprisonment, torture or outright massacre. Think the treatment of Lidice after Heydrich was assassinated, but applied as comprehensive policy rather than as isolated tactic. That is why few rebellions last all that long in the Orient. The locals may or may not love the victors, but they definitely fear it, and for good reason.

The main exceptions were Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia during the Cold War and the Philippines today. But all four were profoundly influenced by their Western sponsors, and a precondition of that aid was that they refrained from large-scale killings that would pacify the land, but lead to howls of outrage from (typically lefty) Western journalists that would lead to the end of that aid. Large scale killings did occur, but they were perpetrated by the Laotian, Vietnamese and Cambodian communist victors, whose Chinese and Russian sponsors had few qualms about breaking eggs to make omelettes, as long as those eggs were somebody else's.

Stephanopoulos: Trump's Retweet of Golf Ball Knocking Down Hillary Clinton Is ‘Alarming'
Stephanopoulos is a poltroon.
[Breitbart] Sunday on ABC’s "This Week," host George Stephanopoulos called President Donald Trump’s retweet an animated gif that shows him knocking down Hillary Clinton with a golf ball "alarming."

Stephanopoulos said, "We had a tweet storm form the president this morning including a retweet ‐ I want to put it on the screen right now ‐ which showed President Trump swinging a golf ball, whacking it right into the back of Hillary Clinton. She goes down right there. Kind of surprising ‐ maybe it’s not surprising ‐ kind of alarming tweet right there. Does it make you question how real this outreach to Democrats was this week?"
Strangely, Mr. Stephanopoulos seemed not very concerned about Ms. Clintons use of the phrase "Clear and Present Danger" when referring to Mr. Trump the day before this latest tweet.

Maybe mods will consider the creation of a "Presidential Schlongs" category for "File Under?"

No.

3 die in fighting in Sabratha in Libya
Tunis, 17 September 2017:

At least three men have been killed and several injured, some severely, in further fighting today in Sabratha between an Islamist militia and a local anti-people smuggling force.

The shooting in the town centre which broke out early this morning, is understood to have involved members of Ahmed Dabbashi’s Al-Amu militia. Dabbashi is a member of a prominent local family with a record of Islamist support. On the other side was the 48th Brigade of the town’s “Operations Room Fighting IS” under its commander Omar Abdul Jalil. The brigade was formed to crack down on local people-smuggling gangs.

Local elders have spent the day seeking to broker a ceasefire. The cause of the conflict is unclear. However, there has been speculation that it may have been triggered by a dispute over funds that Italy is paying to stop the flow of illegal migrants by having them intercepted and held in Libyan detention centres. A week ago Italian ambassador Giuseppe Perrone visited the town to congratulate the mayor Hassen Dhawadi on his clamp-down on the people-traffickers.

Another source has said that ranged against the Al-Amu militia have been pro-Libyan National Army (LNA) fighters. In July force of some 500 LNA supporters from the Watiya airbase and surrounding towns came into Sabratha and forced the Islamists out of the town.

Four teachers held responsible for Christian boy’s death
[DAWN] A two-member committee looking into the murder of a Christian boy in the Burewala school has recommended departmental action against four teachers of the school, holding them responsible for the death of the student.

On Aug 30, Sheron Masih had died from fatal blows from class fellow Ahmed Raza in the classroom of the Government MC Model High School, Burewala.

The inquiry report negates police report that the cause of the dispute between the two students was a mobile phone. The education department inquiry committee states Raza had not allowed Sheron to leave the classroom.

The inquiry team, consisting of Bashir Ahmed (headmaster of the Islamia High School in Vehari and Muhammad Asim (deputy district officer), submitted the report to the district education office on Saturday.

The report recommended that action be taken against class teacher Nazir Mohal, headmaster Saleem Tahir and physical education teachers (PETs) Ramzan and Dildar Ahmed.

According to the report, the four teachers were guilty of showing poor school and classroom management, violating government rules and demonstrating least interest in their duty. The report added that class teacher Mohal’s absence from the classroom during the incident had been proved while both students -- deceased Sheron and suspect Raza -- were not enrolled on the day of the incident.

The four teachers have already been suspended from service after the incident. The inquiry committee recommended compulsory retirement of class teacher Nazir Mohal under the the Punjab

Suicide bomber dies in al-Maqdadia municipality in Diyala
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) A second suicide bomber blew himself up on Sunday after security forces besieged him in a region in Diyala, hours after a deadly suicide bombing left casualties, a local official said.

Adnan al-Tamimi, chairman of Maqdadia municipality, northeast od Diyala, was quoted by Alghad Press saying that a second suicide bomber was forced to blow himself up after police showered him with gunfire at al-Jihad neighborhood.

Tamimi said the explosion left no casualties, adding that a curfew remains in place since late Saturday, when another attacker was also forced to blow himself up being encircled by security forces in the same area. The explosion killed a police officer and wounded seven others, including three security members, Saad Maan, a spokesperson of the Interior Ministry, said, adding that forces were going after two other suicide attackers.

The first attacker possessed hand grenades which he hurled at civilians in the area, Maan noted.

Violence and armed conflicts left 297 Iraqis dead and wounded during the month of ِAugust, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq which excludes security members deaths.

Islamic State militants have launched occasional attacks against security forces and civilians in Diyala over the past few months, coinciding with government operations that managed to recapture the city of Mosul, Islamic State’s largest bastion in Iraq, and the town of Tal Afar, their last holdout in Nineveh province.

The government and its military commanders intend to wage further offensives at other Islamic State havens across the country, including Diyala, seeking to mark an end to the self-proclaimed “caliphate” the group declared back in 2014.

The game is much bigger than Qatar, and like any other crime, the criminal tries to eliminate evidence. Getting rid of the evidence may drain Qatar, particularly after being financially and politically exhausted and especially that it fulfilled its role in toppling a number of Arab regimes and dividing their states and influence zones. The other cards though are related to intelligence apparatuses in regional and European countries. Exposing them will expose the secrets of Sunni and Shiite Islamic terrorist groups.

ISI to have more civilians at the top
[DAWN] The Pakistan Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has increased the civilian share in the senior hierarchy of the country’s premier intelligence agency ‐ Inter-Services Intelligence

It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI).

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sept 15, 2017 approved a proposal to increase the number of directors general (DGs) ‐ the highest civilian post in the agency ‐ from one to four.

The post of civilian DG in the ISI is a grade 21 position, equivalent to a serving major general of the armed forces.

Previously, there was only one civilian DG post in the intelligence agency.

PM Abbasi approved the summary sent to the PM Office by the Defence Ministry, proposing four civilian DGs in the ISI.

In addition, the prime minister has also enhanced the number of deputy directors general (DDGs) from eight to 15. The same summary recommended the creation of seven additional DDG posts for civilian officers in grade 20.

Rohingya 'extremists' trying to build stronghold - Myanmar army
[BBC] Myanmar's top general has blamed Rohingya people for the crisis that has led to hundreds of thousands crossing into Bangladesh.

Gen Min Aung Hlaing said the Rohingya "has never been an ethnic group", and accused "extremists" of trying to form a stronghold in northern Rakhine state.

His army is accused of targeting civilians in an offensive there, forcing Rohingya to flee.

Myanmar denies this, and says it is responding to deadly turban attacks.

The UN has warned that offensive against the Rohingya - most of whom are Moslems, while Myanmar is 90% Buddhist - could amount to ethnic cleansing.

On Saturday UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned that the country's de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi had "a last chance" to halt the army offensive before the situation becomes "absolutely horrible".

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Gen Min Aung Hlaing urged people and the media in Myanmar to unite over the "issue" of the Rohingya.

He said the military operation began after 93 festivities with "extremist Bengalis" - referring to Rohingya holy warriors - that began on 25 August.

The violence, he added, was an organised attempt to build a stronghold in Rakhine state.

"They have demanded recognition as Rohingya, which has never been an ethnic group in Myanmar. (The) Bengali issue is a national cause and we need to be united in establishing the truth," his post said.

Rohingya holy warriors did attack police posts in northern Rakhine on 25 August, killing 12 security personnel.

But Rohingya who have fled Myanmar since then say the military responded with a brutal campaign, burning villages and attacking civilians in a bid to drive them out.

Iraqi troops check ISIS advance in near Rutba

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi troops repulsed an attack by the Islamic State attack against units in west of Anbar, a security source from the province was quoted saying.

“Army troops repelled on Sunday an IS attack against its headquarters in al-Dabaa region, southeast of Rutba,” the source said in remarks.

“Troops managed to kill several IS militants, while others escaped to the southern desert in Rutba,” the source, who asked to remain anonymous, added, without giving details on the number of militants.

Rutba is controlled by security troops, however, the town faces IS militants attacks every now and then that are being encountered by security.

Iraqi joint troops managed on Saturday to liberate Akashat region, between Rutba town, on borders with Jordan, and Qaim, on borders with Syria.

The militant group withdrew from the hours, few hours after an offensive was launched there, heading toward Qaim, with no resistance against the troops, a source said.

Anbar’s western towns of Anah, Qaim and Rawa are still held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them.

Fighter jets from the Iraqi army and the international coalition regularly pound IS locations in the province.

HuffPost Accidentally Admits Genes Determine Gender
[Daily Caller] A new study of the skeletal remains of a powerful Viking warrior reveals that he was actually a she.

The leader, long assumed to be a man, was in fact a woman misidentified because 19th century archaeologists did not consider the possibility of women holding high-ranking positions in Viking culture.

And now one of the websites that promotes the idea that gender isn’t determined by genes, HuffPost, has accidentally admitted that genes do indeed dictate gender.

Swedish newspaper Local reported this week that the remains that were excavated during the 19th century by Swedish archaeologist Hjalmar Stolpe in the town of Birka were subject to new DNA tests, that determined the ancient warrior to be female. She was buried with weapons and armor and horses befitting of other high-ranking military Viking leaders during the dark ages.

Charlotte Hedenstierna-Jonson, who led the study on the warrior’s remains, described her as being "fairly tall" at 5 feet 6 inches. The female Viking leader’s gender became the subject of some scrutiny after Anna Kjellström, an osteologist at Stockholm University, found that her bone structured appeared to be feminine. The discovery led to the DNA study, confirming that she was indeed a woman.

HuffPost was the one of the first US websites to cover the story, which achieved viral status on social media.

DSEI 2017: Lockheed Martin's 40 mm Modular Turret reveals hidden depths
Janes.com - Paywall
The 40 mm Modular Turret from Lockheed Martin UK, designed initially to up-arm the Warrior infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), was displayed at DSEI with a number of new capabilities. While none of the systems shown have been selected by any customers, they demonstrate the potential for upgrading and customising the turret to suit customer needs.

The turret is the result of significant investment from Lockheed Martin and employs common systems from the Ajax reconnaissance vehicle in the United Kingdom and the Jaguar armoured fighting vehicle from France. The addition of an externally launched Javelin missile provides an engagement envelope of 4 km as well as gives the platform a credible firepower capability against main battle tanks. This shows the modular turret is capable of maintaining a place within the international market and can be built with stretch capacity for greater firepower.

Part of the Lockheed Martin stand was a virtual demonstrator, which was used to exhibit the mission systems that can be fitted to the turret. These included a controller that closely resembles the system used in the Warrior as well as a complete set of cameras that are accessed via buttons surrounding an LCD screen and provide a 360⁰ view of the vehicle’s surroundings. The fully stabilised 40 mm CTA cannon is simple to operate using the controller, enabling reasonable proficiency to be gained in tracking and engaging targets within a very short space of time.

#1  And this is an improvement over existing setups how? It's easier to break?
Why you would want a single platform to operate all you weapons from is questionable; it just means that when there's a fault, everything stops working at the same time. Redundancy is a good thing in combat.

#2  Just a turret that can fire more stuff. No different than the IFV or tanks we have today. There are two firing stations in the turret. The gunner and the commander. Usually the gunner does it but the commander can grab an override switch and fire himself.
Sounds like a similar set up with more toys.

has murdered three murderous Moslem detainees who confessed to killing his colonel father, a security source said on Sunday (Sept 17).

The soldier - a member of Yemen's government intelligence services - carried out the killings "suddenly and without the consent of his colleagues" during an interrogation on Saturday, the source said.

According to the source, the soldier's colleagues were "angered" by the killings, but he did not face repercussions.

Tribal leaders confirmed the Dire Revenge killings to AFP.

The detainees were captured during a military operation last week in the district of Wadea in Abyan

In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
province, a stronghold of al-Qaeda in southern Yemen.

The soldier's colonel father, whose name was not disclosed for security reasons, was assassinated in Wadea early last month.

Yemeni forces backed by a Saudi-led coalition on Thursday managed to drive al-Qaeda Death Eaters from Wadea, which is symbolic as the birthplace of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi.

Donald Trump brings trimming shears to UN debut
[Al Jazeera] The annual United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
confab of world leaders in September usually starts with a push on some lofty goal, such as tackling poverty or climate change.

That is not on the cards for the first UN General Assembly (UNGA) for United States President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
Instead, the focus on Monday will be the dour topic of UN reform - part of Washington's drive to cut some flab off the world body and reduce the multi-billion dollar price tag it pays each year to keep the blue flag flying in midtown Manhattan.

Trump proposes cuts in UN funding
Trump has previously written off the UN as a "club" for "people to have a good time", prompting fears that tightening purse strings would leave needy people in South Sudan, Congo, and other hotspots without aid and blue-helmet backup.

Though UN reform is the centrepiece, delegates will inevitably get side-tracked by more urgent headaches: the ethnic cleansing of Rohingya in Myanmar, North Korean nuclear arms, and the rift between Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
and its Arab neighbours.

All the while, paparazzi will hunt Trump and his counterparts from La Belle France, Emmanuel Macron, and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
Every eye-roll will be captured, not least when Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu share the room.

A lot hangs on how Trump behaves, said Courtney Smith, a New Jersey-based UN specialist at Seton Hall University.

The billionaire's "unpredictable" and "inconsistent" diplomacy has left foreign statesmen wondering whether "America First" puts them last.

"Will it be a Trump who wants to engage the UN and talk about issues that can be solved together, or a Trump who's confrontational and critical?" Smith told Al Jazeera.

Anthony Lamar Smith wasn't Rosa Parks, he was a HEROIN DEALER – Kevin Jackson
[TheRightScoop] "Finally, the Court observes, based on its nearly thirty years on the bench, that an urban heroin dealer not in possession of a firearm would be an anomaly," the judge wrote.
For those like me who have lost track, Anthony Lamar Smith was recently killed in St. Louis by a white police officer, whose acquittal on murder charges led to riots over the weekend.

The case was recently reopened due to unspecified new evidence.

Britain
Day 3: Second man arrested for Parsons Green bucket bomb identified as Syrian refugee who had been housed with the same foster parents as the arrested yoot
[DailyMail]
  • Yahya Faroukh, 21, was taken into the home of Penelope and Ronald Jones in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey

  • He had been placed with the Joneses after reaching Britain in 2013 from Al Harah near Damascus, Syria

  • Police swooped on the foster carers' house and a home opposite Heathrow airport where Faroukh lives

Faroukh is believed to come from Al Harah near Damascus – an area that has escaped much of the devastation caused by Syria's civil war.

He appears to have fled his homeland for Egypt, possibly by flying to Cairo.

On November 23, 2013, he posted a picture on his Facebook page showing a dilapidated fishing boat with the caption: 'The boat we took from Egypt to Italy.'

Within a few days he was in Croydon, where Britain's immigration authorities are based.

He was placed with the Joneses at their home in Sunbury-on-Thames and began studying at West Thames College.

On his Instagram he wrote about 'smoking weed every day' and posted an image saying: 'For better life you need to have weed, vodka and drugs.'

He also posted anti-Israel images proclaiming: 'Stop Israeli terror in Palestine.'

Mohammed Konbus, who met Faroukh during the journey through Egypt, said: 'He wasn't into all that religious stuff. He was a very sensible person and very mature. I am so surprised that he has been linked to this.

'I really hope that it isn't him, but I haven't seen him in three years, and no one knows what can happen in three years.

'He doesn't seem like a guy that would go to that limit. I don't agree with people being killed so I hope we find out who it was.

'We moved because the situation got worse in Egypt and he wanted to learn English and start establishing his future.'

At Christmas 2015, Faroukh appears to have travelled to Scotland to see a cousin, also a refugee, and some children.

But 11 weeks ago, on June 29 - a few days after the London Bridge terror attack – his father died back in Syria.

It set off a period of intense mourning for Faroukh, who posted sombre images of his father on his Facebook page.

By now he was living in a house in Staines, next to Heathrow Airport. Anti-terror police swooped there yesterday.

Neighbour Pat Hodge, 59, said: 'My wife and I have sat outside in the communal garden with him in the summer and had ice lollies.

'He seems like a nice chap. Sometimes his family come down from Edinburgh, I think it's his brother and two nephews.

'They're all really lovely to talk to. They're obviously Arabic but the kids speak with perfect Scottish accents.

The other suspect arrested, an 18-year-old Iraqi, is also believed to have come from the foster care of the Jones family.

A local councillor said the teenage suspect came to the UK aged 15 after his parents died in Iraq while a friend of the Joneses said the man's biological family did not agree with him moving in with Christian foster parents.

It comes as a man was caught on camera an hour-a-half before the Parsons Green bombing carrying a Lidl bag as he left the Joneses' house.

CCTV footage shows a figure outside the property in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, at 6.50am, just 90 minutes before a 'bucket bomb' inside a shopping bag exploded and injured 30 people.

In the CCTV video obtained by ITV, a man dressed in a grey tracksuit keeps his head down and his face hidden from the camera as he walks quickly down the street.

Aid officials 'gravely concerned' over fate of relocated Islamic State families in Iraq
[REUTERS] Aid officials in Iraq said they were "gravely concerned" about the fate of about 1,400 foreign wives and children of suspected Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Death Eaters relocated by Iraqi authorities, who did not warn aid organizations.

The families had been held by Iraqi authorities since Aug. 30 in the Hammam al-Alil transit camp, south of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
"We are gravely concerned about these families," said Melany Markham, spokeswoman for the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Iraq. The NRC is one of several aid groups that have provided humanitarian services to the families.

"We weren’t informed where the families would be taken to, and we don’t know if they will have access to assistance and protection," Markham said. "They are a very vulnerable population."

None of the aid groups supporting the families, including the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
, were given advanced warning by Iraqi officials about the move, according to Markham.

The families were moved to Tal Keif, a town north of Mosul, an Iraqi police intelligence source confirmed. They are being housed in buildings rather than camp sites, under the supervision of Iraqi coppers.

During a visit to the Hammam al-Alil camp earlier this week, several women told Rooters that they were terrified of leaving the camp and being taken under the exclusive control of Iraqi forces.

Southeast Asia
Burning History: Ossifying the False Narrative
[Peaking at 70] Pretending to honor those who served while subtly and falsely subverting the reasons and justifications for that service is a con man’s game.

By John M. Del Vecchio

The Vietnam War, a new 10-episode, 18-hour documentary series by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, will begin airing on PBS stations in less than a week. From a cinematic perspective it will be exceptional. Burns knows how to make great scenes. But through the lens of history it appears to reinforce a highly skewed narrative and to be an attempt to ossify false cultural memory. The lies and fallacies will by omission, not by overt falsehoods.

Here’s what to look for in Episode 1: Deja` Vu (1858-1961):

· If the episode indicates the ancient state of Vietnam was one nation prior to 1858, it’s not history; it’s a set up for skewing the story. Although there were periods (totaling approximately three decades) when North and South were united, what was then North and South included limited coastal and river population centers, and did not include the Mekong Delta, the highlands, or any of the territory that became border lands between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Wars between North and South dominate Vietnamese history, but many of the wars are between the area north of the Red River (Haiphong/Hanoi) and south of the river. The ancient capital city of Hue was established at approximately the same time as the ancient city of Philadelphia.

· If the episode mentions the French colonial administration of Tonkin, Annam and Cochin China but does not include The Crown Dominion Lands, it’s not history, it’s a set up for skewing the story.

· If it mentions Ho Chi Minh’s nationalism, his quoting from the American Declaration of Independency, and the allies arming "his" Viet Minh at the end of World War II; but does not mention that the allies armed resistance movements in virtually all countries occupied by either Germany or Japan during the ’40s, and that in all those countries (including Italy and France) the nationalistic resistance groups attacked the occupiers while the communists attacked the other resistance groups, it’s not history, it’s a set up for skewing the story.

Regarding Ho’s nationalism, this paragraph is from VN scholar William Laurie: "In 1945 Ho Chi Minh launched a veritable pogrom against any anti-French, non-communist nationalist groups. Hundreds were killed. Members of nationalist anti-French parties such as Viet Nam Quoc Dan Dang, Dai Viets, Dong Minh Hoi, Hoa Hao, Cao Dai were all targeted. Ho Chi Minh, a Stalinist adherent, even had VN's Trotskyites killed. Non-political, moderate, anti-French independence people such as Bui Quang Chieu and Pham Quynh were also assassinated. This political blood-lust is not the hall mark of a ’nationalist.’"

Gunmen kill ISIS Big Turban in Hawija

Hawija (IraqINews.com) Unknown attackers have killed a senior Islamic State vigilante in Kirkuk and humiliated his corpse, an intelligence source said Sunday.

An intelligence source told Alsumaria News that unknown attackers killed Abu Ayman al-Iraqi, Islamic State’s Hisbah (vigilantism) chief in Hawija, the group’s stronghold in southwest Kirkuk, and stuck a donkey’s poster on his dead body, understandably an action of humiliation.

The corpse was found with gunshot marks in the head, according to the source.

Islamic State militants have held Hawija since 2014, when they proclaimed an “Islamic caliphate” in large parts of Iraq and Syria.

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command said in August it had completed preparations to invade the town and eliminate IS fighters.

Since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale offensive to retake IS-held regions in 2016, occasional reports have told of instances when unknown attackers assassinated senior group members. Those were coupled with other reports telling of divisions within the group’s ranks as Iraqi forces made progress on the ground.

15 dead ISIS troops found in Tikrit

Tikrit (IraqiNews.com) Relics of fifteen Islamic State members were found in south of Tikrit, Salahuddin province, pro-government paramilitary troops said.

“Troops seized on Sunday a mass grave including relics of fifteen IS militants’ bodies in Sayed Gharib region in Balad town, south of Tikrit, while combing the region,” a statement by the media service of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said.

“A wide-scale operation was launched earlier on the day with PMFs engaged,” it added.

An earlier statement said joint troops “destroyed on Sunday an IS rest house in al-Rufai’at, west of Balad.”

Col. Saad Mohamed, of Salahuddin Operations Command, said in press remarks previously on Sunday that troops, backed by army jets, “launched a wide-scale operation to follow IS militants in north of Dujail district, south of the province.

The operation, according to Mohamed, targeted “al-Rufai’at, al-Bou’loul, al-Farhatiya and Sayid Gharib, which witness high activity by the militant group.”

The operation comes in less than a week after an attack launched by the group, which targeted a Shiite shrine in Dujail, leaving dozens of casualties among the militants as well as PMFs.

Pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, are still held by the militants which poses threats to the liberated regions. Iraqi troops are urged to prevent the militants infiltration between Salahuddin and Kirkuk provinces, especially the regions stretching along Hamreen mountains and Al-Azeem town.

It’s expected that the Iraqi government will head towards liberating other IS strongholds across Iraq, including in Salahuddin.

Iraq
Booby trap explosion kills 8 at school in Iraqi village
[Iran Press TV] Eight tribal fighters of an Iraqi paramilitary unit have been killed in a booby trap blast near the northern city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
Jabbar al-Maamuri, a commander of Iraq's tribal fighters, said on Sunday that the attack was carried out at a school in the village of Majarine, which is located 20 kilometers (12 miles) west of Mosul.

More than a dozen others were maimed. The school was being used as a training center and it had been booby-trapped by the ISIS Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
terrorists, the commander said.

The village was retaken from ISIS in early July as Iraqi forces closed in on Mosul.

The Sunday kaboom is the latest example of dangers left behind by the retreating ISIS terrorists.

In another such deadly incident in newly recaptured areas, six members with the paramilitary troops of Hashd al-Sha'abi were killed on Saturday in Akashat in the western province of Anbar.

In July, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi formally declared victory over ISIS in Mosul, which served as the terrorists’ main urban stronghold in the conflict-ridden Arab country.

In the run-up to Mosul's liberation, Iraqi army soldiers and volunteer fighters from the Popular Mobilization Units had made sweeping gains against ISIS since launching the operation on October 17, 2016.

The city, located some 400 kilometers (250 miles) north of the capital Baghdad, fell to ISIS in June 2014.

30+ ISIS Bad Guys die in fighting in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) More than thirty Islamic State militants were killed in an operation in west of Mosul, the pro-government paramilitary troops announced.

“An operation was carried out three days ago in Abu Yaseen, Thara al-Karah, Wadi al-Thirthar and al-Khubra regions as well as areas in the vicinity,” Ahmed Nasrallah, deputy commander of the 13th brigade of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces), said in a statement on Sunday. “Troops besieged big number of terrorists, killing 32 militants during the operation.”

“Among the killed militants were the judge of the so-called Al-Jazeera State and Nineveh State, judge of the northern region, Tal Afar and al-Deshisha, militant in charge of the ammunition, the group’s deputy economy minister and a leader known as abu Hajar,” the statement added.

Last week, the PMF’s media service announced killing 12 out of 15 IS suicide attackers during clashes in abu Raseen region in Qairawan, west of Mosul.

on July 10, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory over IS militants who had held the second largest Iraqi city since 2014. More than 25000 militants were killed throughout the campaign, which started in October.

Since the city was declared free, security troops continue to comb western Mosul areas for hidden IS cells.

Despite declaring the victory over IS there in the city, observers say IS is believed to constitute a security threat even after the group’s defeat at its main havens across Iraqi provinces. Other IS havens in Anbar, Kirkuk and Salahuddin are expected to be targeted by the iraqi government soon.

Nisar chides Asif for remarks about banned outfits
[DAWN] Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan
...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
assailed Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif on Saturday over his remarks about banned outfits, saying that comments on sensitive and important matters must be based on facts and record and not on assumptions and riddles.

In a statement issued by his front man, Chaudhry Nisar pointed out that 26,000 people laid down their lives while over 70,000 sustained injuries in the war on terrorism. He said that Pakistain also suffered a loss of over $100 billion as a frontline state in the war.

Mr Asif in a recent TV interview had stressed the need "for putting our own house in order" and keeping tabs on banned
...the word banned seems to have a different meaning in Pakistain than it does in most other places. Or maybe it simply lacks any meaning at all...
organization
s, including Jaish-e-Muhammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
, admitting that the groups were operating from within Pakistain. In another interview he said that he stood by his words.

Chaudhry Nisar regretted that despite the sacrifices, some people not only criticised and pointed fingers at Pakistain, but also made it a target of derision. "The reason is that we provide the world an opportunity to ridicule us and put the blame of their failures on us, due to our irresponsible attitudes and statements," he noted.

He said it was quite strange that at a time when the army chief was asserting that Pakistain had rendered enormous sacrifices and the world must acknowledge this and should ’do more’, the foreign minister and the interior minister were taking the position that Pakistain should do more.

He said that these two persons had been ministers for the past four and a half years. "Did they ever express these views in the meetings of the cabinet or National Security Committee? Does the minister realise how much his statement was played up and publicised in India and how it was used by that country to substantiate its baseless claim that the problem is with Pakistain?" he asked.

"This is also a fact, unfortunately, that such statements are made to criticise our intelligence agencies and armed forces. But if this is the case then one should have the moral courage to do plain talk rather than asking riddles," Chaudhry Nisar said.

He said that of course there were some weaknesses and shortcomings vis-à-vis national security but these issues should be addressed through consultation, hard work and consensus. "One should not make fun of it before the entire world through statements. National security issues are very sensitive and one should consider national interest before speaking about such matters."

He asked if there was not a visible improvement in the internal security situation today as compared to the one that the country faced in 2013-14. "What made this possible were joint efforts and not under any coercion or help from outside." Federal and provincial governments, arm-ed forces, civil armed forces, and intelligence agencies contributed to the joint efforts, he added.

Blast kills five in Pakistan, Taliban claims responsibility

group said it carried out an attack on Sunday that killed five people in the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.

...Smallest of the agencies in FATA. The Agency administration is located in Khar. Bajaur is inhabited almost exclusively by Tarkani Pashtuns, which are divided into multiple bickering subtribes. area that is part of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

The blast struck a vehicle in the Mamund area of Bajaur, killing four security personnel and an official from the civilian administration, local government sources said.

Bajaur is one of the Pashtun tribal regions near the Afghan border. Security in the region has improved in recent years after the Pak military mounted offensives there against the al Qaeda-linked Pak Taliban, which is considered the country's biggest security threat.

Al Shabaab Militants Seize Key Town in Central Somalia
[All Africa] Al shabaab Death Eaters were reported to have retaken a key town in central Somalia on Sunday following a deadly attack which killed at least six soldiers, according to the locals.

The fighters mounted in battle wagons launched the attack on military base in Kalabeyr from two different directions and engaged in a fierce shootout with government forces.

Reports from the area indicate that both sides have exchanged heavy weaponry and machine guns during the confrontation that raged on for several hours in the morning.

Al shabaab has intensified its raids against Somali government controlled towns in South and central Somalia over the past few days, to topple the UN-backed Federal government.

Scott Adams: Hillary Clinton Lost Because @realDonaldTrump Is ‘Funny As Hell'
[GotNews] "All week Hillary Clinton’s been pushing her book and saying increasingly ridiculous things about why she lost," Adams said.

"Do you know which one she left out? That Trump is funny as hell," he added. "You have to admit, some number of people voted for him just because he’s funnier. You know that’s true and she left that one out."

Axios tallied up at least 16 headache-inducing excuses from What Happened, including her "damn emails," "Russia," James Comey, sexism, Obama, the DNC, the press‐the list goes on.

"So what’s hilarious about this, is all this week she’s been talking about all the things and the reasons why she lost, and then he just tweets this little‐that just perfectly captures what was wrong with her personality compared to his, right?" Adams said.

#1  Hillary lost because she's Hillary; I don't think Trump could have beat a candidate that didn't have her baggage.
I call it the 'Coyote Ugly' moment, based on the old Mel Tillis joke. A lot of people got in voting booth, and were like a coyote in a trap. They'd rather chew off their hand than vote for Hillary.

The Grand Turk
Turkey deploys 80 military vehicles near Syrian border
[Al Jazeera] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
sent 80 military vehicles including tanks to its southern border with Syria, the state-run Anadolu news agency said on Sunday.

Citing an unnamed military source, Anadolu said the deployment was part of reinforcements for troops stationed along the border. The vehicles were sent to the southeastern province of Hatay, Anadolu said.

A third convoy of armoured vehicles was heading to Hatay's Reyhanli district, where Turkey's Cilvegozu border gate with Syria is located, Anadolu said.

A convoy of about 18 Ottoman Turkish army vehicles arrived in an area close to the Bab al-Hawa crossing on the Ottoman Turkish-Syrian border, sources told Al Jazeera.

Eyewitnesses confirmed the arrival of the vehicles, including armoured personnel carriers, at the Rihaniyah area on the Ottoman Turkish-Syrian border.

Syrian opposition officials and activists said they expected the troops would continue towards Syria as per the terms reached in the Astana agreement. The treaty requires the entry of Ottoman Turkish forces in areas controlled by the Syrian opposition in the province of Idlib.

Iraq
Baghdad Bomb and Bullet Bulletin
5 wounded in bombing in al-Furat district

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Five civilians were wounded in an IED blast in western Baghdad, a security source was quoted saying on Sunday.

“A bomb, placed near stores in al-Furat district, west of Baghdad, exploded on Sunday, leaving five civilians wounded,” the source told Alghad Press.

“Security troops cordoned off the blast spot, while ambulances transferred the victims to nearby hospital,” the source added.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

Arabia
Houthis fingered for child drug abuse
Jeddah – Human Rights Minister in the legitimate Yemeni government Dr. Mohammed Askar accused the Houthi insurgents of committing grave violations against children in the war-torn country.

Since they seized Sana’a in 2014, the violations have ranged from kidnapping to murder to recruitment for fighting. They have even reached the extent of forcing children into drug abuse, he told Asharq Al-Awsat.

He said that in the first month alone of the coup, back in 2014, the Houthis committed 37 violations against children.

He based his allegations on a report by the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor that documented a series of violations against educational institutions in Sana’a that were committed during the coup.

One of these violations included the recruitment of child soldiers, under the age of 18, and their deployment at checkpoints throughout the capital.

The recruitment of children is barred by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted in 1989.

Askar revealed that 1,529 cases of child recruitment by Houthi militias were documented in 2017. The majority of these recruitment processes took place in poor areas.

As for pushing them to into drug abuse, he explained that children are given hallucinogenic drugs to deal with the violent acts that they are forced to commit.

Europe
German far-right party calls for Merkel to be punished
[Al Jazeera] Germany's leading right-wing party will press for Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom...
to be "severely punished" for her immigration policies once it assumes a place in parliament, its leader said on Sunday.

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is projected to win up to 12 percent of the vote during Germany's federal election on September 24 and become the third-largest party in the Bundestag, polls show.

Alexander Gauland, co-founder of the AfD, told Rooters news agency the party would push for the creation of a new committee to examine Merkel's track record on refugees and migrants colonists entering the country.

"We want Merkel's policy of bringing one million people into this country to be investigated, and we want her to be severely punished for that," he said.

"We're gradually becoming foreigners in our own country."

It was unclear what Gauland meant by "punishment".

Founded in April 2013, the AfD narrowly missed out on the five percent share of the vote required to win representation in parliament during the federal election in September of the same year.
