China Appears to Have Secretly Sold Pakistan a Large Combat Drone, Says Report
[National Interest] China appears to have secretly sold Pakistan a large combat drone, according to new satellite images.

This was first pointed out by the Center for the Study of the Drone at Bard College. Citing satellite images from November 2017, the Center reported on January 5th that there was a medium-altitude long-endurance drone spotted at the Alam Air Base in Mianwali, Pakistan. "The drone in the image appears to be a Wing Loong I. This assessment is based on its wingspan‐which we believe to be around 14 meters‐ and its V-tail, as well as a comparison with other satellite images of the Wing Loong I elsewhere in the world," the Center noted in its report. The report was later confirmed by IHS Jane’s, which cited different satellite images taken from the same time.

The Wing Loong I is a strike-capable medium-altitude long-endurance drone built by the Chinese firm Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC). It has a length of nine meters and a wingspan of fourteen meters. It can fly at heights of nearly 25,000 feet with a maximum speed of around 280 km/h and a range of 5,000 kilometers. According to IHS Jane's, it has a maximum take-off weight of 1,150 kilograms with a maximum payload capacity of 200 kg. The payload is split fifty-fifty between internal and external weapon stores. It is considered to be China’s version of America’s Predator drone.

Ballistic Missile False Alarm Terrorizes Hawaiians
[Breitbart] Across Hawaii, residents got an ominous message on their phones’ Emergency Alert System (EAS) telling them to "seek immediate shelter" from a "ballistic missile threat."

White House Deputy Press Secretary Lindsay Walters later implied the false warning stemmed from a state, rather than federal, mishap. "The President has been briefed on the state of Hawaii’s emergency management exercise. This was purely a state exercise," he said in a statement

According to the Associated Press (AP), Hawaii Emergency Management Agency spokesman Richard Repoza confirmed a false alarm.

"Hawaii Emergency Management Agency spokesman Richard Repoza said it was a false alarm and the agency is trying to determine what happened.," the AP reports.

The message, initially thought authentic, spread quickly on social media, prompting some panic, as Fox News reported Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) estimated over one million Hawaiians received the erroneous alert. The EAS protocol should only be available to government officials.

Border Patrol arrests fugitive wanted for kidnapping
fugitive = Illegal Alien
[SanDiegoUnionTribune] U.S. Border Patrol agents patrolling in Boulevard
(east San Diego County)
this week discovered one of three people they had arrested was wanted for kidnapping in Mexico.

On Tuesday, agents on patrol near the border arrested three individuals on suspicion of illegal entry into the United States and transported them to a nearby station for processing.

A check of records at the station revealed that one of the men had an outstanding warrant originating from Mexico and was a fugitive wanted for aggravated kidnapping.

U.S. Border Patrol, in coordination with the Mexican Attorney General, San Diego Attaché Office, turned over the man to Mexican authorities.

MSNBC Deletes Incorrect Tweet About Ambassador To Panama
"Other than the facts, the tweet was accurate and truthy"
An MSNBC producer and the official MSNBC Twitter account incorrectly claimed earlier Friday that the U.S. ambassador to Panama was resigning over Trump's "s**thole" comments.

Mary Emily O'Hara, a segment producer for MSNBC, said that John Feeley was resigning over allegations that Trump referred to Haiti and African countries as "shitty countries."

"Feeley is the first US diplomat to resign over the president's comments," O'Hara wrote. O’Hara deleted her initial tweet and addressed her error in a follow-up, blaming the first tweet on "phrasing."

The Ambassador informed leadership of his resignation December 27th. Oops

Super Bowl Ad Rates Decline
Gee - I wonder how that could have happened?

Here we are barely three weeks out from the Super Bowl and NBC has yet to sell all its ads. Same for the ensuing Winter Olympics. The network is predicting a half-billion dollars revenue from the big game pitting who-knows-who against who-knows-who in who-cares-where.

And another $900 million from ad sales during the Winter Olympics in South Korea immediately after, assuming no war. It’s the first time these two major sports events occur so close to each other on the same network.

It’s an immense economic gamble for NBC, which has committed to live-sports programming but now finds live-sports ratings tumbling for events like the National Football League and Olympics. NBC is paying $12 billion to those old guys on the Olympic Committee through 2032.

While the kneeling crap has contributed to this mess, the big problem is the massive multi-year contracts NBC (and other networks) have signed with the sports leagues, which was all well and fine when viewership and ad rates were going up like gangbusters. When the shit started to hit the fan a few years back and accelerated this year, they're left holding the bag because the contracts are fixed and can't legally be renegotiated. I suppose they'll try, but the leagues can always say no. At least it's not my mess.

#3  Frank G - that Chargers move had to be the dumbest franchise move in history and 100% predictable. Anyone with familiarity about L.A. sports could have told you that there's never been any pro football support, and Spanos wants to flip the bird to you and the other Chargers fans (I'm assuming you at least follow them) while lowering the value of his own franchise at the same time. Amazing! How Goodell managed to get a massive 5 year extension as commissioner after so many dumb & destructive moves is simply astounding to me.

Zim President Emmerson Mnangagwa details ‘great escape', poisoning
[Zim Herald] President Mnangagwa yesterday narrated how he escaped the clutches of people who wanted to eliminate him, including his tortuous journey through landmine territory in neighbouring Mozambique before landing in South Africa.

The Head of State and Government opened up on the previously unknown details of his "great escape" while addressing Zimbabweans resident in Angola yesterday. He also took the opportunity to announce that he no longer has traces of poison in his body after his doctors gave him a clean bill of health last week.

Chronicling how he escaped into Mozambique after he was warned of a plot to eliminate him, the President said he had to walk for long hours, in some cases taking precautions to avoid possible landmines.

He said there was an attempt by security details at the border in Mutare to shoot him, but that this was foiled by his sons.

"I was fired at 4pm and left the office and by 6.30 pm, one of the security guys came to inform me that he must be part of a group that had a mission to eliminate me," he said.

"I didn’t think it was pleasurable to wait to be eliminated. I left within four hours of being fired for the Mozambican border. I arrived at the border and our side of the border stamped my passport, but before they could lift the boom for me to cross into Mozambique, it was closed. The message came that I was not allowed to leave Zimbabwe. I said in that case there was no need, I (will) go back. They said again I was not allowed to go back into Zimbabwe but I said ’you can’t stop me’. What case have I committed? As I was walking away, they tried to fire (at me) but I have one young man, one of my twin sons, was there. He is an officer and was able to grab the weapon and I was not shot."

The President went on: "Then you know for many years I operated in Mozambique in the department of security. I know the area and it’s infested with land mines. Those things are still there, you walk in-between strings to avoid landmines. I did (that) from about 9 pm until about 7.30 the next day. I arrived in Mozambique and we had a lift back to the border to have my passport stamped again on the Mozambican side. Then I phoned a colleague from South Africa that I was on my way to Beira. By the time we arrived in Beira, a small plane had arrived from South Africa to pick me up and I went to South Africa."

He said he informed South African authorities that he was in their country through Speaker of Parliament Baleka Mbete.

LinkedIn Data Reveals the Most Promising Jobs and In-Demand Skills of 2018
[Linkedin] As we enter 2018 it’s become clear that the jobs landscape in the United States is changing. How people are thinking about their careers and how they define success is changing. The rise of technology across every industry has created a flurry of new jobs and associated skills (and these aren’t necessarily all tech roles). While we all may take a different approach to reach our own definition of success, we’ve compiled a list of the most promising jobs and in-demand skills, plus a few stand-out trends, to help you get there.

The Trends

You don’t need to be technical to be successful. Despite the prominence of technical jobs and skills, soft skills like management, leadership, and strategy are equally as important. The proof is in the data: we surveyed 2,000 business leaders who told us the soft skills most in-demand are leadership, communication, collaboration, and time management. In fact, 57% of them said these soft skills are more important than hard skills.
List follows.

Walmart to raise its starting wage to $11, give some employees bonuses following tax bill passage
[CNBC] Walmart's workers will soon reap the benefits of the recent tax law changes, as the world's largest private employer raises its starting wage, creates new benefits and distributes bonuses to eligible workers.

The big-box retailer announced Thursday it will increase its starting wage rate for hourly employees in the U.S. to $11, and expand maternity and parental leave benefits. Currently, Walmart's starting wage is $9 until workers complete a training program. Then, they receive $10.

Walmart will also pay a one-time cash bonus to eligible employees of as much as $1,000. The payouts, which should total roughly $400 million, will result in a one-time charge that the company will take in its fiscal fourth quarter.

The bonuses will be determined by an employee's length of service. Those workers with more than 20 years of experience will qualify to receive the full $1,000. However, workers with less than two years of experience will receive $200, a Walmart spokesman told CNBC.

Criminal illegals, tax cheats, sanctuary cities OK'd in Gang of Six Sh*tholistan immigration deal
[Washington Examiner] A plan to reform immigration and grant amnesty to nearly 700,000 young adults that is being shopped by six senators would waive some criminal convictions, let 300 "sanctuary cities" off the hook and starve Immigration and Customs Enforcement of funds to track down and deport criminal illegals, according to a new analysis of the proposal.

"This proposal is not a serious effort to find common ground with either the majority of congressional Republicans or the president," according to immigration expert Jessica M. Vaughan, director of policy studies for the Center for Immigration Studies.

"It pays only lip service to what is required to achieve the immigration policy improvements that Americans seek, and that they elected Donald Trump to accomplish," she added in a new analysis released Friday.

She obtained the details of the plan and found several areas that clash with the basic wishes of the White House and promises made by Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign.

"Judging by details obtained by the Center, the aim is actually maximum amnesty, minimum border security and no cuts to legal immigration, and not a good faith effort to reach a deal with either the House of Representatives or the president," wrote Vaughan.

#8  sot.

President Trump, in expressing his "why not people from Norway" was interpreted in the MSM as though there are no People of Color™ in Norway. Just a tad racist of them.

Wikipedia stats:
In the last decades, Norway has become home to increasing numbers of immigrants, foreign workers, and asylum-seekers from various parts of the world. Norway had a steady influx of immigrants from South Asia (mostly Pakistanis and Sri Lankans), East Asia (mainly Chinese), and Southeast Asia (e.g. Filipinos), Eastern Europe (e.g. Russians and Poles), Southern Europe (Greeks, Albanians and people from former Yugoslavia etc.), and Middle East countries (especially Iraqis and Palestinians), as well as Somalis, Turks, Moroccans, and some Latin Americans. After ten Eastern European and Baltic countries joined the EU in 2004, there has also been a substantial influx of people from Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Immigrants constituted 13% of the population at the start of 2015, and an additional 2,6% were born in Norway by immigrant parents[6] (up from 8,3% and 1,5% in 2006[7]). The same year, 19% of births in Norway were to immigrant parents.[6] In 2006, non-Western immigrants constituted 75% of the total number of immigrants. They contribute much of the population growth. Among people of African descent in Oslo, almost 60% are younger than 30, compared to 20% of those of North American background.[7]

Of these 660 000 immigrants and their descendants:

335 000 (51%)[8] have a Western background (Australia, New Zealand, North America, elsewhere in Europe)
325 000 (49%)[8] have a non-Western background (Morocco, Iraq, Somalia, Pakistan, Iran).

I'm pretty sure President Trump would gladly welcome a Norwegian National of Somalian descent bringing with her a PhD in, say, Physics but probably not in Wymans Studies.

John Lewis will not attend Trump's first State of the Union address
[Washington Examiner] Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., revealed on Friday that he does not plan to attend President Trump’s first State of the Union address at the end of the month.

"I cannot in all the conscience be in a room with what he has said about so many Americans," Lewis told MSNBC host Katy Tur when explaining why he will not attend. "I just cannot do it. I wouldn’t be honest with myself."

Lewis’ comments come just a day after it was reported that Trump called some nations "shithole countries" during a White House meeting with lawmakers Thursday. As the lawmakers and Trump discussed a potential bipartisan immigration deal, Trump started to discuss immigration from African nations and asked why the U.S. is "having all these people from shithole countries come here?"

Lewis, who was a friend of Martin Luther King Jr., said the civil rights leader would tell Trump he must "wake up."

"You need to do what is right; you need to do what is fair," Lewis said when Tur asked what King would say to Trump. "You need to be a little more human and respect the dignity and worth of every human being and stop putting people down because of their race, their color, or their nationality."

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Jan. 15 and the State of the Union Address will be held on Jan. 30.

[UPI] Nearly half of U.S. women have at least a mild deficiency in the nutrient iodine, and new research suggests it could impair their fertility.

..."The Western diet has changed in the last few decades and the adoption of vegetarian and vegan diets have led to a reduction in dietary iodine consumption," noted Dr. Tomer Singer, who directs reproductive endocrinology and infertility care at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

Trump Slashes Federal Bureaucracy, ‘Morale Has Never Been Lower'
h/t Instapundit
[DailyWire] The Environmental Protection Agency is on track to slash 47% of its total staff by the end of President Trump’s first term, according to a report in the Washington Examiner. After just one year, EPA chief Scott Pruitt has reduced his staff to levels unseen since the Reagan administration. If just those federal employees set to retire by 2021 do indeed leave, Pruitt will have cut more than 7,000 bureaucrats.

...With the exception of Homeland Security, Veterans Affairs, and Interior, all Cabinet departments by September had fewer permanent staff than the day Trump took office. In addition, Trump’s proposed spending cuts triggered a spending slowdown across agencies despite the absence of a 2017 budget from Congress.

...Before his death in 2016, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia observed that unaccountable, overgrown executive agencies posed the greatest threat to American liberty. If President Trump can reduce bureaucracy to Reagan era levels within a year, Americans might hope to press on to Coolidge era numbers by his second term. For an administration that promises to make America great again, at least it’s a good start.

Famed Genomicist Rep. John Lewis releases startling discovery
[Daily Caller] Georgia Democratic Rep. John Lewis said on MSNBC Friday afternoon that President Trump has racism "in his DNA" and "in his makeup."

Lewis made the accusation following Trump’s reported comments that America needs fewer Haitian immigrants and more immigrants from countries like Norway. The president reportedly referred to some countries in Africa as a "shithole."

"I think the words and his action tend to speak like one who knows something about being a racist," Lewis said when asked if he thought Trump is a racist. "It must be in his DNA, in his makeup, but it’s frightening to have someone in the office of the president in 2018 speaking the way that he is speaking. We’ve come too far and made too much progress to go back to fan the flames of racism and bigotry."

A Brief History of Presidential Profanity
December 10, 2012
[Rolling Stone] When President Obama called Mitt Romney a "bullshitter" in the pages of Rolling Stone earlier this year, it set off a brief firestorm. Defenders of the Republican candidate were shocked ‐ shocked! ‐ that the man holding the highest office in the land would resort to such language. In truth, the halls of the White House (like nearly every other house in the country, with the apparent exception of Romney's) have heard no shortage of profanity over the decades. It's a dirty job, leading the free world. Sometimes it takes a few dirty words. Read on for a brief history of presidential (and vice-presidential, and presidential candidate) profanity.

Honest Abe evidently loved a good off-color joke. In Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, Daniel Day-Lewis bends the ears of an anxious telegraph crew with one of the president's favorite shaggy-dog tales, recounting the tale of Ethan Allen encountering a portrait of George Washington in an outhouse in England after the Revolutionary War. His hosts were eager to see the reaction of their visitor, who stumped them by approving: "There is nothing to make an Englishman shit quicker than the sight of General George Washington."

Our 44th president has a very vivid vocabulary. Obama famously called Kanye West a "jackass," and on the audiobook version of his autobiography, Dreams From My Father, you can hear the future president mimicking an old high-school friend who evidently knew his Richard Pryor: "You know that guy ain't shit. Sorry-ass motherfucker ain't got nothing on me." But it was in the pages of Rolling Stone that Obama really drew the ire of the pious, calling opponent Mitt Romney a "bullshitter." Sometimes the dirty word is the most precise.

The FBI Must Turn Over Comey's Memos By Next Week
[Townhall] A federal judge has ruled the FBI must turn over memos written by former FBI Director James Comey about a meeting with President Trump. The decision comes as a result of a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, which has been seeking the documents for months.

The FBI has been ordered to turn over the documents by January 18, which is next week.

"The court, in seeking to review the documents, shows it doesn’t trust the FBI or Justice Department’s representations about the infamous Comey memos. We hope now that Americans are one step closer to knowing the facts about these memos, which were written and leaked for pernicious purposes to target a sitting president with a criminal investigation," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. "It’s high time they begin to see the light of day. We’re glad the court followed up on our specific suggestion that it review the documents directly."

Department of Justice attorneys, who are defending the FBI in the lawsuit, asked the court for the case to be dismissed. That request has been denied and Comey's memos must be turned over for review.

Drop in Prison Population Driven by Decrease in Property, Drug, Immigration Offenses
[Free Beacon] The three-year decline in America's prison population, a reversal of multiple decades of increase, saw a concurrent decrease in the number of Americans held for property, drug, and immigration offenses, and an increase in those incarcerated for violent offenses.

This conclusion is based on data made available Wednesday by the Bureau of Justice Statistics. The BJS’s most recent report, Prisoners in 2016, found that state and federal incarceration levels had dropped for three years in a row between 2014 and 2016, reversing decades of near-continuous growth.

In addition to providing data on overall levels of incarceration, the BJS breaks down those statistics by, among other variables, type of offense. Its most recent report provides state-level distribution of offenses through the end of 2015, and federal-level distribution through September 2016. Over the period of the decline (2014 through 2016 inclusive), federal prisons accounted for about 12 percent of overall incarceration, while state prisons were responsible for the other 88 percent.

At both levels, prison populations declined, and similar patterns occurred in the changes in the distributions of offenses.

Within the states, fewer people were incarcerated for drug and property offenses at the end of 2015 than at the end of 2013. Approximately 11,000 fewer people were held for drug charges, including around 3,000 for drug possession and 8,000 for other drug charges, including drug trafficking. Some 22,000 fewer people were held for property charges, with the plurality of reductions being in the 13,500 people locked up for burglary.

Kurdish leader Selahattin Demirtas brought to Istanbul courtroom
Just checking in to see how the other man hated by Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First, called “the much beloved” is faring as he works through the 95 cases against him.
[Rudaw] Proceedings in the case of Selahattin Demirtas on charges of "insulting the president" have concluded for the day and will continue on May 17 in order to allow the court to consider a request from Demirtas challenging parliament’s decision to lift his immunity. In May 2016, the parliament passed a law lifting immunity from a select group of 138 MPs, including Demirtas and many other HDP members. In court on Friday, Demirtas said the parliament acted contrary to the constitution and demanded the decision be cancelled.

"Now I have immunity as much as [Prime Minister] Binali Yildirim... [I] have to be tried in the constitutional court. I demand the movement of the case to the constitutional court," he said.

HDP, however, has slim hope of receiving a favourable decision from the court. Co-chair Serpil Kemalbay, making a speech in front of the courthouse, said that the court's decision is already pre-decided and is being dictated by Ankara. She claimed that the judge on Friday was reluctant when agreeing to consider Demirtas' request.

Turkey reinstates over 1,800 civil servants after post-coup purges
[IsraelTimes] Ottoman Turkish authorities on Friday reinstated more than 1,800 civil servants in an emergency decree after finding they had no links to a group blamed for the 2016 failed coup.

The public sector employees were fired after being accused of downloading an encrypted messaging app known as ByLock, which the authorities say was used by the movement of US-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
who is blamed for the attempted putsch. But late last year, the authorities said that the app had been unknowingly downloaded by thousands of people.

A total of 1,823 civil servants will return to work, including 544 personnel from the education ministry and 204 health ministry staff. The decree also said 458 personnel from the police force could return to their jobs.

The employees will have to return to work within 10 days and will receive their wages for the period they were not working, but they cannot apply for compensation.

But in Friday’s decree, 262 people including 48 military personnel were fired, state-run news agency
...and if you can't believe the state-run news agency who can you believe?...
Anadolu said, while two organizations were shut down.

Following the failed overthrow of President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
imposed a state of emergency, which has been renewed five times and is likely to be extended again this month.

Using emergency decrees, more than 140,000 public workers have been sacked or suspended ‐ including teachers, judges, coppers and academics ‐ since July 2016.

Over 50,000 people have been tossed in the clink
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
, including many with suspected links to Gulen because they had allegedly downloaded ByLock.

Last month the Ankara chief prosecutor said that 11,480 people were directed to the ByLock app without realizing it or giving permission.

Zainab killing: Police say same DNA found in eight rape, murder cases
[GEO.TV] DNA tests results have confirmed that the same culprit carried out the horrific rapes and murders of eight children in Kasur, including seven-year-old Zainab Amin, police said on Friday.

"One thing that is very clear [from DNA tests] is that in seven previous cases, and this is the eighth case, in which the same culprit carried out these horrific crimes," Inspector-General of Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

police (IGP) Arif Nawaz Khan told Geo News.

He said that police has not been able to match that DNA to any of the suspects interrogated so far.

"We investigated almost 227 people, of which we narrowed down 67 suspects and carried out their DNA tests. But none of these results match those of the culprit," said the provincial police chief.

The bigwig said that it was difficult to identify the suspect from CCTV video footage due to its low image quality.

"The resolution of the CCTV was not very clear. We have improved the resolution, but still it is not 100% identifiable. We are trying to improve it further," he said.

He said that he would share more details with the public in case of any breakthrough in the investigation. "We are making efforts and, God willing, we will work out this case soon."

Brother of US man killed fighting for Daesh sentenced
[ARABNEWS] The brother of a San Diego man believed to be the first American citizen killed while fighting alongside the ISIS in Syria has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on terrorism-related charges.

Marchello Dsaun McCain was sentenced Friday in federal court in San Diego for illegal possession of a cache of firearms and body armor and making false statements to federal agents about international terrorism.

McCain is the brother of Douglas McCain who was killed in 2014 in Iraq while fighting alongside the ISIS in Syria.
A bit of a geographical conundrum there. I was under the impression ISIS kept the foreign jihad tourists in the Syrian side of the border.
The United States unsealed a two-count indictment charging Canadian national and former San Diego resident Abdullahi Ahmed Abdullahi with conspiring with Douglas McCain and others in the United States and Canada to provide support to forces of Evil in Syria.

The man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend in west Charlotte is dead after an officer-involved shooting at CMPD headquarters Thursday night.

A police source says the man wanted in the deadly shooting is 23-year-old Jonathan Bennett. Bennett was wanted in connection with the deadly shooting of his girlfriend and mother of his child, 24-year-old Brittany White.

Police said they were briefing in the parking lot between the law enforcement center and the CMPD parking deck, when they were shot at multiple times. Several officers returned fire, police said.

"He ambushed us, he shot at us," CMPD Police Chief Chief Putney said in a press briefing early Friday morning.

An officer was shot and injured in the shooting at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Law Enforcement Center. The officer was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The officer’s identity has not been released.

"Its obvious he knew we were looking for him. Here's what I'll tell you, times like this make you appreciate people who voluntary put their lives on the line to keep us safe. Unfortunately some use that against us," Chief Putney said.

After Trump pulls protected status for 200,000 Salvadorans, Canada says: Please don't come here
[NationalPost] When the Trump administration issued an immigration ban on citizens of seven majority Muslim countries a year ago, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent out an unambiguous tweet about Canada’s stance on refugees and asylum seekers.

"To those fleeing persecution, terror and war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength," Trudeau wrote on Jan. 28.

But when U.S. Homeland Security announced this week that it was withdrawing Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, for 200,000 Salvadorans, giving them 18 months to sort out their immigration status permanently or face deportation, the reaction from the Canadian government was more muted.

Fearing an influx of newcomers crossing "irregularly" into Canada from the United States, the Canadian government has embarked on an information campaign to discourage Salvadorans from trekking north, as thousands of Haitians did when threatened with a loss of protected status last summer.

The government announced that it was planning to send Pablo Rodriguez, a Spanish-speaking member of Parliament, to California in the coming days to speak to community groups, lawyers and Spanish-language media. His message is simple: If you don’t qualify for refugee or asylum status, don’t try to cross into Canada.

"Canada has a robust and structured immigration system that must be respected," Argentina-born Rodriguez told La Presse newspaper in a French-language interview. "Before leaving your job, pulling your child from school and selling your house to come to Canada, make sure you understand the rules and the laws. Because if you don’t fill these criteria, chances are you’ll be returned, not to the U.S. but to your native country."

The government also says there are plans for a "targeted digital campaign" aimed at TPS-affected communities.
Continues.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Investigation reveals MS-13’s sophisticated power structure
[NYPOST] Transnational street gang MS-13 has better organizational structure than some corporations.

As part of an investigation into the violent group’s illicit activities on Long Island, authorities identified "cliques" ‐ or local cells ‐ of MS-13 operating in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and Texas.

"Cliques are sub-groups of MS-13," officials said in a blurb announcing the indictment of a dozen high-ranking MS-13 members on Thursday.

"All cliques are MS-13 gang members, and each clique operates individually under their own rules, yet is still under the greater rules of the entire organization."

The gang demands that cliques "respect each other and their territories," according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office.

"Any issues or conflicts between cliques that require resolution or punishment are handled by MS-13 big shotship," prosecutors said.

Trump is only telling the truth about MS-13
Two cliques in Long Island, called "Hollywood" and "Sailors," reported directly to gang leaders in El Salvador ‐ and sent them the proceeds of their nefarious activities, authorities said.

"Based on the evidence acquired during this investigation, the gang also has affiliates operating around the world in places such as Mexico, Colombia, South Korea, La Belle France, Australia, Peru, Egypt, Ecuador and Cuba," officials said.

Members agreed to kill and punish disloyal members who cooperated with law enforcement or tried to leave the gang, according to authorities.

The would also commit "ruthless acts of violence" ‐ including murdering rivals and punishing members who didn’t follow gang protocols, officials charged.

DEA Crackdown Bags Senior MS-13 Leader, 16 Others
[DAILYCALLER] The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) bagged the senior MS-13 leader for the Northeast U.S. along with 11 other high-ranking members of the gang in a Thursday crackdown operation, the New York Post reported.

The 17 defendants ‐ five of whom are not MS-13 members ‐ are facing charges including second-degree murder, drug trafficking, and conspiracy. They face up to 25 years in prison if convicted, the Post reported Thursday. The unnamed Long Island-based leader operated two cells, code-named "Hollywood" and "Sailors." He reported and transferred proceeds directly to MS-13 heads in El Salvador, according to the DEA.

"It started as a small-scale drug investigation on Long Island, a DEA investigation which is still growing, and as it went along and we brought other agencies on, we saw a violent threat that pushed us to get even more agencies involved and eventually apprehend this regional leader of MS-13," DEA Special Agent in Charge James Hunt said in a statement. "Not only did we arrest the highest-level Mara Salvatrucha leader in the Northeast who reports to MS-13 in El Salvador, but we sent a message that we will continue to investigate their violent crimes and bring justice to their victims."

Jihadist counter-offensive takes a massive nose dive near Abu Dhuhour Airport
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist counter-offensive in the Idlib Governorate tonight began with a lot of promise, as their forces managed to capture at least two towns near the Abu Dhuhour Military Airport.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
this success would be short-lived, thanks in large part to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) reinforcements that arrived to drive back the encroaching jihadists.

According to a military source in Hama, the Syrian Arab Army killed a large number of jihadist rebels, including several members of the al-Qaeda linked Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
.

The military source added that the Syrian Army destroyed several technical vehicles that belonged to the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham holy warriors near the Abu Dhuhour Airport.

Palestinian pleads guilty to Hamburg ‘Islamist’ knife attack
[IsraelTimes] Ahmad Alhaw admits terror attack and killing, claims they were partly in anger over Israeli security measures on Temple Mount
Sudden Jihad Syndrome attack by 1) a known Islamist who 2) was a rejected asylum seeker. A Palestinian dental student born in the United Arab Emirates, 3) he was not eligible for asylum or refugee status to begin with, but 4) could not be sent back because he had thrown away his papers. There are probably thousands like him, but at least the locals responded to his nonsense by beating him with chairs instead of cowering in corners while waiting for the police to handle it.
A 26-year-old Paleostinian man admitted Friday to killing a man and wounding six others with a knife in a Hamburg supermarket, an attack that stoked fears of Islamist terrorism in Germany.

Ahmad Alhaw "declares that he takes responsibility for the very serious crimes he committed, and explicitly recognizes his guilt regarding all the charges," the defendant’s lawyer Christoph Burchard told judges in the high-security courtroom.

Fifth Column
Uranium 1?: Former President of Maryland-Based Transportation Company Indicted on 11 Counts Related to Foreign Bribery, Fraud and Money Laundering Scheme
[Justice.gov] Mark Lambert, 54, of Mount Airy, Maryland, was charged in an 11-count indictment with one count of conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and to commit wire fraud, seven counts of violating the FCPA, two counts of wire fraud and one count of international promotion money laundering. The charges stem from an alleged scheme to bribe Vadim Mikerin, a Russian official at JSC Techsnabexport (TENEX), a subsidiary of Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation and the sole supplier and exporter of Russian Federation uranium and uranium enrichment services to nuclear power companies worldwide, in order to secure contracts with TENEX.

According to the indictment, beginning at least as early as 2009 and continuing until October 2014, Lambert conspired with others at “Transportation Corporation A” to make corrupt and fraudulent bribery and kickback payments to offshore bank accounts associated with shell companies, at the direction of, and for the benefit of, a Russian official, Vadim Mikerin, in order to secure improper business advantages and obtain and retain business with TENEX. In order to effectuate and conceal the corrupt and fraudulent bribe payments, Lambert and others allegedly caused fake invoices to be prepared, purportedly from TENEX to Transportation Corporation A, that described services that were never provided, and then Lambert and others caused Transportation Corporation A to wire the corrupt payments for those purported services to shell companies in Latvia, Cyprus and Switzerland. Lambert and others also allegedly used code words like “lucky figures,” “LF,” “lucky numbers,” and “cake” to describe the payments in emails to the Russian official at his personal email account. The indictment also alleges that Lambert and others caused Transportation Corporation A to overbill TENEX by building the cost of the corrupt payments into their invoices, and TENEX thus overpaid for Transportation Corporation A’s services.

In June 2015, Lambert’s former co-president, Daren Condrey, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the FCPA and commit wire fraud, and Vadim Mikerin pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering involving violations of the FCPA. Mikerin is currently serving a sentence of 48 months in prison and Condrey is awaiting sentencing. The indictment includes allegations against Lambert based on his role in effectuating the criminal scheme with Condrey, Mikerin, and others.

Illinois AG candidate robbed at gunpoint in Chicago during campaign photoshoot
The Chicago Tribune reported that Aaron Goldstein, 42, and members of his campaign team were approached by three men in their early 20s. One of the men had a handgun and demanded Goldstein and the campaign aides turn over the camera equipment and other personal belongings, including their cell phones, which they did.

According to the Tribune, law enforcement sources confirmed that they had no one in custody and did not release a description of the suspects.

Goldstein’s campaign manager Robert Murphy, who was not with the candidate at the time, explained that he was taking promotional campaign photos with an “in-the-neighborhood kind of” message, according to the Tribune. The incident took place in Albany Park.

Another gem from Western Rifle Shooters Association includes lessons for squad on squad contact tactics.

Smith Sights, which manufactures an after-market front sight, said Wednesday that Facebook tends to approve his ads after he is silent for a while about his conservative politics. That's okay, because Milo Yianopolis is suing Twitter for their discrimination against conservatives.

Suing a business entity for their political views: doesn't that go against the whole 1st Amendment? Top tech companies don't want to help their blood enemies and they don't want to pay them even if their services are useful. It goes back to freedom of association. I understand if Milo wants to strip mine Twitter for their behavior, but it won't be because of 1st Amendment or other lofty issues, but because of a business issue. All well and good. But suing to remedy an action based on politics is something so dumb only a lawyer could have conceived it.

By the way, I have installed the Smith Sight on my Mosin-Nagant and it really helped.

And in the area of "Don't Leave Home Without It", there is the 60 round AK-74 magazine.

The Poor Man's Air Force? Rebel Drones Attack Russia's Airbase in Syria - bellingcat

#1  ...Although the JV has figured out how to use drones, I am extremely skeptical of the 'swarm attack' claim. I'm thinkin' - and your mileage may vary, of course - that the Soviet Russian base got hit by an old-time ground attack, and this is the official cover explanation.

#4  Doesn't add up. Allegedly these drones had over the horizon capability (not bargain basement). They were a coordinated, even slaved attack but not synchronized to qualify as swarming. The Russians just happened to have the correct assets available and alert to tag all the inbounds within a very narrow reaction window.

My take is the Russian version of a "red team" conducted a planned exercise simulating a multiple vector deliberate attack to test the resilience of the SOP defenses. That explains the field expedient drones, the lack of penetration/damage.

Otherwise it would seem to simply be a probing attack against a brittle (not hard) target. Note there is no independent confirmation that the mortar round payloads were live or inert

#5  if they had used these RC planes as cheap models of a swarm the attack would have been much more effective.

#6  Russians said they tapped in to a data port and were able to bring seven of them down.

The drones' flight path was programmed and supposedly impervious to jamming. A nearby Russian ELINT unit was able to tap into the drones' data port and to bring some of them down.

Former Obama Official Hints Admin Warned Terrorist That Israel Was Going To Assassinate Him
[Daily Wire] The former spokesman for the U.S. National Security Council under former President Barack Obama lashed out over a recent report from a Kuwaiti newspaper about how the Obama administration prevented Israel from assassinating a man with strong ties to terrorism by warning Iran about their plans.

The New York Times’ Bret Stephens tweeted out an article from Haaretz quoting the newspaper saying that three years prior to its report, the U.S. thwarted an Israeli attempt to kill Iranian general Qassem Soleimani who is the commander of the Quds Force, a US-designated sponsor of terrorism.

Jihadist rebels suffer heavy losses in disastrous offensive in southern Idlib
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels are having a rough night in the Idlib Governorate after both of their counter-offensives ended in complete disaster.

Led by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and the Free Syrian Army (FSA), the Islamist rebels attempted to retake the towns of ‘Atshan and Sinjar on Friday, despite the fact that the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) had already heavily fortified the area.

Using young suicide bombers to carry out SVBIED attacks, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham repeatedly attempted to infiltrate the Syrian Army’s lines at ‘Atshan and Sinjar; however, they failed on every try.

According to a military source in Hama, the Syrian Army lured the jihadist rebels to enter one area unopposed near ‘Atshan tonight before they laid a successful ambush on the group of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham militants.

The source added that over 20 militants were killed near ‘Atshan, while 15 more were killed at the Sinjar axis tonight.

Monsters amongst us
[DAWN] KASUR is once again the scene of a depraved crime against a child. The rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab is a grotesque illustration of the state’s increasing disconnect with the people.

The little girl went missing last Thursday, kidnapped while on her way to a religious tuition centre; her brutalised body was found on Wednesday, discarded on a heap of garbage.

In 2015, horrific details emerged of a child pornography ring that had been preying for years on several minors in Kasur district, making videos in which the victims were coerced into performing sex acts.

Despite the outrage triggered by that case, the criminal justice system remains as dysfunctional as ever. For Zainab’s abduction and rape is reportedly preceded by no less than 12 similar cases ‐ still unsolved ‐ within a two-kilometre radius in Kasur city during the past two years.

But this time, public anger spilled over on the streets of Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

with riots continuing into the second day. Police firing into the crowd of protesters left two people dead.

No matter which society, crimes against children evoke an especially acute horror. In Pakistain, that initial revulsion comes up against a state callously indifferent to its duty to protect citizens, even the younger segment of the population.

Criminal investigations are not of a standard that can lead to prosecutions; traumatised child victims are not handled with sensitivity by the police, nor does the latter liaise with organizations trained in rape counselling who can help these minors deal with their ordeal.

Law enforcement’s lackadaisical attitude, which is of course generally applicable to crimes across the board ‐ is born out of the knowledge that there will be absolutely no repercussions for their failure to properly compile and analyse evidence, an approach that takes time and discipline.

After the child porn ring was unearthed in Kasur, years after it had claimed its first victims, one would have imagined that the police would have expended every effort to track down the individuals responsible for the rape and abduction, and in some cases murder, of so many other girls in the same area.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had been cornered by the banditti...
as seen time and again, brute force is often the tactic of choice to deal with public protests.

Again, it is the easy way out. Endemic abuse of power and lack of justice have left society seething with pent-up frustration, an impotent rage that spills over into mob violence as witnessed over the last two days.

While such mayhem cannot be condoned, it arises from very legitimate, yet unmet, expectations.

The criminal justice system must be overhauled and reformed to serve the people. Underscoring the scale of the problem, the bodies of two more child rape victims surfaced yesterday in parts of Punjab other than Kasur.

Over 100 Palestinians said injured in West Bank, Gaza clashes
[IsraelTimes] 46 reported maimed from live and rubber bullets during violent protests, which come amid heightened tensions in wake of Tuesday’s shooting attack.

Hundreds of Paleostinians were said to have been injured Friday during festivities with Israeli soldiers in the West Bank and Gazoo Strip.

Citing the Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,-run Paleostinian health ministry in Gazoo, the Haaretz daily reported 46 were lightly or moderately maimed by live and rubber bullets. Of those, 41 were maimed during festivities at a number of locations along the Gazoo border.

Another 105 Paleostinians were said to have been injured from inhaling smoke and tear gas.

In the West Bank, festivities were reported near Nablus, Ramallah, Bethlehem and Jericho, among other places.

In Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem, Border Police officers placed in durance vile

three Paleostinians suspected of throwing rocks, molotov cocktails and burning tires at security forces. Video released by police showed the suspects being detained by undercover officers.

’s December 6 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, there have been violent protests every Friday in the West Bank and Gazoo, although their size has shrunk in recent weeks.

Earlier, the army said residents of Nablus threw Molotov cocktails at Israeli troops searching the area during a pre-dawn arrest raid. The soldiers retaliated with riot dispersal methods, the military said in a statement.

The arrests came amid an ongoing manhunt after the perpetrators of a lethal terror attack in which an Israeli father of six was bumped off on a nearby West Bank highway on Tuesday night.

On Friday morning, the Israel Defense Forces announced that it was keeping in place a series of checkpoints in the Nablus area that it set up following the shooting attack.

It was not immediately clear if the man arrested in Nablus early Friday morning ‐ identified by the Paleostinian Ma’an news agency as Muathe Rayan ‐ was connected to the army’s manhunt, or if he is suspected of an unrelated crime.

TTP claims responsibility for Karachi policeman's 'target killing'

Senior Superintendent of Police Central Irfan Ali Baloch told Dawn that TTP grabbed credit for the attack on Shakir, who was part of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) West's reserve force.

The SSP also termed the incident as a assassination.

The policeman was on his way to work when two faceless myrmidons on a cycle of violence shot up him, killing him on the spot.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal and Inspector General of Police A D Khowaja, all took notice of the incident and ordered DIG West to provide them with details of the case.

Trump signs waivers extending Iran nuclear deal, but for ‘last’ time
[IsraelTimes] White House official says it is only to give Congress time to strengthen the deal so that it never expires

US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
signed a waiver on Friday keeping the Iran nuclear deal alive, at least for now. But a White House official told news hounds that "this is the last such waiver he will issue," unless Congress heeds his call from October to unilaterally strengthen the deal.

Faced with a deadline over whether to reimpose sanctions against Tehran that were lifted under the 2015 nuclear accord, Trump ultimately decided to keep those sanctions suspended for at least another 120 days.

If he had not signed those waivers, those sanctions would automatically be reinstated, putting the US in contravention of the deal’s terms and likely spelling the end of the 2015 pact.

The official said that Trump now wants to work with America’s European allies ‐ who all urged him to remain within the accord ‐ to develop a new agreement to replace the Iran deal.

Tehran would not be involved in these discussions, as it was prior to the signing of the 2015 accord, but would be subject to US and European sanctions if it breaks the terms of the new arrangement.

The new deal, the official said, would be permanent and would not begin to expire after a decade as was the case in the 2015 accord.

It would target Iran’s missile program and not simply its nuclear industry, and it would mandate UN inspections of Iranian sites.

"If the president can get that agreement that meets his objective and it never expires, it denies Iran all paths to nuclear weapons forever, not for ten years, he would be open to remaining in such a modified deal," the official said.

Under the accord, the US president has to sign the waivers every 120 days, while the American intelligence services monitor the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s compliance with the deal, which rolled back crippling sanctions against Tehran in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program.

In conjunction with his announcement to extend the agreement, Trump used the occasion to slap 14 Iranian individuals and entities, including the Head of Iran’s Judiciary, Sadegh Amoli Larijani, with fresh sanctions.

The last time he faced a major deadline regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, as the deal is formally known, he decertified the deal under the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act (INARA), a congressionally mandated measure that requires the president to determine if Iran is in compliance.

The administration charged that Iran was not living up to the "spirit" of the agreement and asked Congress to unilaterally impose "trigger points" on the deal that will reimpose nuclear-related sanctions against Tehran should it overstep certain bounds.

Those trigger points, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told news hounds at the time, would be aimed primarily at addressing what the administration sees as flaws in the deal, such as the sunset clause, which is set to lift limitations on Iran’s nuclear program when the accord expires in over a decade, and Iran’s ability to continue developing its ballistic missile program.

The move forced Congress to set another review period to determine whether to hit Iran with sanctions that were in place before the accord was implemented, or potentially take other actions.

another 150 people including local opposition leaders over unrest against price and tax rises that prompted troop deployments to restive towns, and activists called for renewed rallies at the weekend.

Protests, some violent, flared across Tunisia on Monday, when one protester was killed, before ebbing on Thursday. Protesters have burned dozens of state buildings, prompting the government to send the army into several cities and towns.

Activists and opposition politicians appealed for fresh demonstrations in the capital, Tunis, on Friday and on Sunday, the seventh anniversary of the toppling of authoritarian president Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali.

On Thursday, unrest was limited to sporadic festivities in the northern city of Siliana, in Sidi Bouzid in central Tunisia and Douz in the south of the North African country.

"The protests have declined and there was no damage, but last night the police arrested 150 people involved in rioting in the past few days, bringing the total number of detainees to 778," Interior Ministry front man Khelifa Chibani said. Sixteen turbans were among those detained, he said.

Three local leaders of the Popular Front, the main opposition bloc, were detained in Gafsa for allegedly setting fire to a government building, a judicial source said.

The Popular Front said its leaders had been targeted in a political campaign that was "reproducing the methods of the oppressive Ben Ali regime." Party members had also been arrested in Mahdia and Karbariya, it said.

The protests draw on anger over price and tax increases included in this year’s budget that took effect on Jan. 1. The government has blamed the opposition and "troublemakers" for stoking unrest, a charge the opposition has denied. The government has vowed not to back down on the austerity measures, taken to satisfy foreign lenders.

Prices have increased for fuel and some consumer goods, while taxes on cars, phone calls, the Internet, hotel accommodation and other items have also gone up.

Tunisia appears to have little scope to back away austerity. The International Monetary Funds says Tunisia is committed to "decisive action" to reform its economy before the IMF reviews the payment of its next loan tranche.

Last year, the Washington-based IMF agreed a four-year loan program worth about $2.8 billion with Tunisia, but tied to economic reforms.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan learns that saying mean things only makes you enemies
[ALMASDARNEWS] Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
appears to be learning that even in the complex and inherently paranoid environment of international relations one fixed principal remains that can also be applied to basic relations between individuals ‐ saying mean things makes you enemies and saying nice things makes you friends.

Almost two weeks ago, Erdogan ‐ speaking before Ottoman Turkish media ‐ made a highly unexpected comment in regards to European relations, pronouncing that ’I always say this: We are obliged to lessen the number of foes and increase the number of friends.’

Indeed, the Ottoman Turkish president might have always said that, but in practice it seems that he is only now just learning ‐ after a 27 year career in various seats of public office ‐ that the act of saying nice things is part of the obligation to reduce enemies and gain friends.

The statement came after most of 2017 witnessed Erdogan slander European leaders as fascist
...anybody not a leftist...
s of their lack of interest in conducting their own nations’ internal affairs according to how he thought they should be conducted.

As far as fair play in politics goes, there is nothing immoral with criticizing the leaderships of other nations (even over domestic matters), however it can make one very undesirable to be allies with when they mean things at the same time as asking for privileges ‐ in Erdogan’s case, European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
membership.

Whether the Ottoman Turkish president can retain the knowledge of this most crucial of lessons in regards to relations at any level (personal and professional, individual and international) ‐ and possibly even develop further on the notion to include offering practical benefits in exchange for practical benefits ‐ to aid The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
’s long overdue re-rapprochement with Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
is yet to be seen.

(ISIS) launched a big assault inside the city of Hajar al-Aswad, Friday, targeting Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...

According to the terrorist group’s official media wing, their forces managed to capture most of al-Zeen Street after a fierce battle with Jaish al-Islam on early Friday.

The terrorist group’s official media wing released several images from the battle, including several gruesome photos that showed Jaish al-Islam fighters decapitated and hanging from a cage.

ISIS has recently increased their military activity in southern Damascus after several month of inactivity inside Hajar al-Aswad, Tadamon, and Yarmouk Camp.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Chicago Anti-violence worker charged with gun possession
[ChicagoTribune] An anti-violence worker was arrested and charged with possessing two AR-15-style rifles and a .38-caliber pistol-grip long-barrel gun after an overnight raid of his Englewood home, according to police.

The arrest happened Tuesday night in the 6300 block of South Sangamon Street.

Tyree Girdon, 42, was charged with four counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon — one count for each gun and one for the ammunition, according to police.

He was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail in a hearing Wednesday, according to court records.

Girdon works for Cure Violence — sometimes called CeaseFire. The group relies on “credible messengers” to reach those most likely to commit acts of violence and dissuade them from taking that path.

Girdon's most recent felony conviction was for a charge of aggravated battery to a police officer in 2004. He was sentenced to probation in that case.

#1  Makes sense. If everyone carried a gun, there would be much less violence there.

#2  So the "anti-violence" worker, who's on probation for aggravated battery of a police officer, had his home searched (guessing that there's a warrant there, they don't specify). and the law finds two AR15's and a cut down M1 carbine.
Hmmm.

Starving Venezuelans mob field, slaughter cattle
Starving Venezuelans desperate for food reportedly mobbed a field and slaughtered cattle -- a stunning illustration of the socialist country's troubles.

Western Venezuela has experienced two days of protests and looting due to food shortages that have left at least three people dead and 16 others injured. The mayor of Arapuey in the state of Merida told El Universal newspaper the dead include a 17-year-old shot during a demonstration Wednesday and two others hit by gunfire Thursday at a business where people had formed a line for food.

Stealing has been on the rise in the country since Christmas due to food shortages and inflation, Reuters reported. The country has the world’s highest inflation. President Nicolas Maduro's regime has largely been blamed for the recession. Opposition lawmakers claim Maduro's “failed economic policies and rampant corruption are to blame for the meltdown in the once-booming country home to the world’s largest crude reserves,” Reuters reported.

Last week, authorities forced 200 supermarkets to cut prices so citizens could buy food, but employees said they were unsure if the empty shelves would be restocked.

Enquiry into Tayyaba torture case expedited after SC order
[GEO.TV] Assistant Commissioner Nisha Ishtiaq recorded her statement in the Islamabad High Court on Friday as enquiry into Taiba torture case expedited after orders from the Supreme Court.

Ishtiaq is the assistant commissioner whom child domestic help Taiba told that she had been tortured by Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Khurram Ali and his wife.

She recorded her statement on behalf of the prosecution.

During the hearing on Friday, Ishtiaq told the court she personally recorded Taiba’s statement and signed on the document.

Raja Khurram was also present in the court with his counsel, Raja Rizwan Abbasi.

The next date of hearing was fixed for January 19, when three witnesses, constables Naseem, Mariam and Ghulam Hussain have been summoned.

On January 9, a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, expressed dissatisfaction over prosecutor's performance and ordered completion of the trial by February 15.

During the hearing, the chief justice enquired the prosecutor on the number of days it would take to complete the trial. To this, the advocate general told the court that witnesses' statements were being recorded and the proceedings will be completed in the end of February.

The apex court also discarded an appeal filed by judge Raja Khurram, challenging the high court's rejection of a compromise with parents of the tortured minor girl.

The case
In late December 2016, Taiba, a 10-year-old domestic help, was recovered from the house of Raja Khurram after receiving complaints of torture from neighbours.

The minor girl, whose face and hands bore torture marks, had initially denied being hurt by her employers. She told the police that she got a wound to her eye after falling from stairs, while her hand was also burnt accidentally.

However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
the poor girl narrated her ordeal after being politely inquired by a female magistrate later. She stated before the magistrate that she was beaten and her hand burnt on the stove for losing the broom.

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Kabul police forces have rescued a local trader who was kidnapped by a gang of dangerous kidnappers and were demanding a ransom of $3 million in exchange for his release.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials said Friday that a group of at least tweleve people have been placed in durance vile
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in connection to the kidnapping case.

The officials further added that the gang led by Nangialai, also famous as Mama, had kidnapped a local trader Hashmatullah from the 9th police district of the city few days ago.

According to the CID officials, the police forces intervened and launched an operation as the gang was demanding $3 million from the family of the hostage.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials said late in December that the woman was arrested during an operation from teh 13th police district of the city.

The officials further added that the child who was kidnapped from the vicinity of the 6th police district of the city was also recovered from the custody of the woman.

According to the CID officials, the woman was demanding a ransom of 500,000 Afghanis against the release of the child.
