Truck Plows Through Bastille Day Crowd, Kills 30
MAY not be a case of sudden jihad syndrome, but odds are...
At least 30 people were killed in the southern French town of Nice when a truck ran into a crowd celebrating the Bastille Day national holiday on Thursday night, French TV channel BFM TV said.

The truck rammed into the crowd on the Promenade des Anglais seaside walk in the center of town, regional newspaper Nice Matin reported, citing its own reporter at the scene.
I am amazed nothing like this happened at any of the various BLM highway blockade protests - all it would take is one driver who's been up too long and is way past ready for the terminal and a beer.

French television channel BFM TV said the local prefecture in Nice was treating the incident as an attack and was asking people to stay at home.

The reason for the crash remained unclear.

Not trying to get off-topic, as this is starting to appear on purpose, I would say:
Initially, yes, until vehicles come to a stop, and BLM probably secretly would want the publicity. Afterwards, it would be those at the end of the lines who risk being rear ended.

Obama Admin Cuts Off Law Enforcement Funding to DNC Host Philadelphia
HT AOSHQ Morning News Dump
Justice Department sides with Republican Pat Toomey against 'sanctuary city' policy
So, just maybe you DON'T get to choose which laws you'll observe while taking Fed $?
A new Justice Department policy announced last week bars sanctuary cities such as Philadelphia, the host of the Democratic National Convention, from receiving millions of dollars worth of federal law enforcement grants, putting further pressure on Pennsylvania Democrats to abandon policies that impede federal immigration officials.

The Justice Department notified cities last Thursday that they would no longer receive federal law enforcement grants, which totaled $3.4 billion in the past five years, if they have laws on the books that interfere with requests for immigration information from federal authorities.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, who implemented the policy that bars cooperation between city law enforcement and federal immigration agents earlier this year, has resisted pressure from the Obama administration to back down on the issue. Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson even traveled to Philadelphia to personally request that Kenney change course but was rejected.

Philadelphia was slated to receive $1.68 million this year through the federal government's Justice Assistance Grant and other programs, according to the Philly Voice. The city has received $8.6 million since 2012 through Justice Department programs.

The Justice Department announcement comes just weeks before thousands descend on Philadelphia for the Democratic National Convention in late July.

Sanctuary cities have already emerged as a critical issue in Pennsylvania's Senate election. Republican Sen. Pat Toomey criticized his Democratic challenger, Katie McGinty, for her support of Kenney in the fight.

In a letter to McGinty following the federal government's announcement, Toomey aligned himself with the Obama administration.

"The Obama administration and I agree that sanctuary cities that forbid their local law enforcement officers from sharing information with federal immigration officials to apprehend violent criminals and terrorist suspects should not be rewarded with federal money," Toomey wrote.

Venezuela army deployed to control food production and distribution
In a decree, President Nicolas Maduro has ordered the army to monitor food processing plants, and co-ordinate the production and distribution of items.
Great! Now all you need are raw materials. Like corn. And dirt.
Venezuela is going through a deep economic crisis despite having the world's largest oil reserves.
It will all be over shortly. We promise.
Basic products are increasingly hard to find and many say they struggle to feed their families and pets.
I hear Maduro and his cronies taste like chicken . . . .
The Venezuelan Bishops Conference said the rise of the military is a "threat to tranquillity and peace".
Only when they start seizing the food for themselves.
Mr Maduro says the measure is to fight the "economic war" he claims is being waged against his government by political foes and businessmen, with US backing.
Look! It's the boogeyman!
But the opposition says the government has mismanaged the economy, and has called for a referendum to oust the president.
Kinda hard to do when the military is in charge.
Mr Maduro announced on state television that the ports of Guanta, La Guaira, Puerto Cabello, Maracaibo and Guamache would be controlled by the army.

He created a government initiative called Great Mission of Sovereign Supplying, which will be headed by the country's Defence Minister, General Vladimir Padrino.

Among other things, it can establish how purchases and distribution of food, medicine and household goods are made.
Still grabbing for money?
Meanwhile, Mr Maduro accused Citibank of mounting a "financial blockade" on the country, after the US bank decided to close the government's international payments account with it.
There it is again! The boogeyman! Over there!
Citibank said the decision followed a "periodic risk management review", but did not explain further. It would be implemented within 30 days, it added.
Uh oh, they only have 30 days to get their ill-gotten booty out of the country and into offshore accounts. Hopefully they can afford to gas the plane when the day comes.
Due to strict currency controls in place since 2003, the Venezuelan government relies on Citibank for foreign currency transactions.

Something tells me this will not end quickly, even though it should. Too many socialist governments in the SOuthern Hemisphere now to let Venezuela fall back into capitalist hands after a coup/rebellion.

Brazil Olympics: France warned of attack plan on Rio team
[BBC] France was informed of a planned terror attack on its team at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the head of French military intelligence has said.

Gen Christophe Gomart told a parliamentary commission in May that a "partner agency" warned of the plot by a Brazilian Islamist militant.

Brazil's institutional security cabinet - which oversees the country's information services - told the AFP news agency it had received no information about the threat from the French authorities.
"We were not the source of information and the Brazilian intelligence agency (ABIN) was not officially informed either of this matter," a spokesman said.

In July, Brazilian Justice Minister Alexandre Moraes said a jihadist attack in Rio during the Olympics was a "possibility" but "not a probability".

About 85,000 security force members including 47,000 policemen and 38,000 soldiers will be on duty to ensure the safety of 10,500 athletes and officials, journalists and tourists from around the world who will be expected to attend the 5-21 August Games.

A spokesman for a special secretariat at Brazil's Justice Ministry - which is spearheading security efforts for the Olympics - said that Brazilian officials and their foreign partners have increasingly been monitoring communications between suspected sympathisers of radical groups.

They have said that the biggest worry is not a co-ordinated attack but a lone actor or group targeting the event.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg regrets "ill-advised" criticism of Donald Trump
[Wash Times] WASHINGTON (AP) -- Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she regrets her "ill-advised" public criticism of Donald Trump.

Ginsburg says in a statement issued by the court on Thursday that judges should avoid commenting on a candidate for public office. She promises to be more circumspect in the future.
Ginsburg told The Associated Press last week that she did not want to think about the prospect of Trump winning the presidency. She escalated her criticism in subsequent media interviews.

She herself came under attack for her comments in recent days, leading to Thursday’s statement.

Certain stations in life have an obligation to not flap their drink holes, and I think that has a lot to do with the NYTs editorial the other day, where if something to do with the election ends up in the Supreme Court she must recluse herself and that knocks out a shoe in vote for The Clinton Foundation.

VDH: American Society On The Brink
a snippet:
The only hope for history's rare multiracial, multiethnic, and multireligious nations is to adopt a common culture, one that artificially suppresses the natural instinct of humans to identify first with their particular tribe. America, in the logical spirit of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, was exceptional among modern societies in slowly evolving from its original, largely European immigrant population to a 21st-century assimilated, integrated, and intermarried multiracial society, in which religious and racial affiliations were incidental, not essential, to one's public character and identity. But such a bold experiment was always tenuous and against the cruel grain of history, in which the hard work of centuries could be easily torn apart by the brief demagoguery of the moment. Unfortunately, President Obama, ever since he first appeared on the national political scene in 2008, has systematically adopted a rhetoric and an agenda that is predicated on dividing up the country according to tribal grievances, in hopes of recalibrating various factions into a majority grievance culture. In large part, he has succeeded politically. But in doing so he has nearly torn the country apart. Indeed, it is no exaggeration to suggest that no other recent president has offered such a level of polarizing and divisive racial bombast.

Possible Comey link to Clinton Foundation financial institution.
[Guardian Feb 2015 article] The charitable foundation run by Hillary Clinton and her family has received as much as $81m from wealthy international donors who were clients of HSBC's controversial Swiss bank.

Leaked files from HSBC’s Swiss banking division reveal the identities of seven donors to the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation with accounts in Geneva.

They include Frank Giustra, a Canadian mining magnate and one of the foundation’s biggest financial backers, and Richard Caring, the British retail magnate who, the bank’s internal records show, used his tax-free Geneva account to transfer $1m into the New York-based foundation.

Britain
Britain's new Foreign Minister once compared Beest to “a sadistic nurse in a mental hospital”
[Legal Insurrection] I don't know a ton about Boris Johnson. He's the former Mayor of London, is very pro-Israel and hates the BDS movement, led the Brexit campaign only to withdraw from contention to be Prime Minister, and was just appointed Foreign Minister (okay, "Foreign Secretary") in Theresa May's new cabinet. And he has a mop of blonde hair.

He obviously has some wit, as in a 2007 column in The Telegraph newspaper in Britain, wherein he described Hillary Clinton in terms we all can appreciate (emphasis added):

"She's got dyed blonde hair and pouty lips, and a steely blue stare, like a sadistic nurse in a mental hospital ..."

Sounds like he was channeling Rush Limbaugh, who made the comparison just a couple of months earlier, Mrs. Clinton Plays Nurse Ratched:

He went on to describe why he was supporting her for president in 2008 despite that description. He relished the thought of Bill Clinton back in the White House carousing around:

How can I possibly want Hillary? I mean, she represents, on the face of it, everything I came into politics to oppose: not just a general desire to raise taxes and nationalise things, but an all-round purse-lipped political correctness....

Unless I am much mistaken, the Clinton marriage is still standing, a shell-scarred monument to the triumph of hope over experience; and the nub of the matter is that I am prepared to pay the price of supporting Hillary just to get Bill Clinton once again padding over the shag pile carpet of the Oval Office, even if it is only to bring his wife a cup of tea....

For all who love America, it is time to think of supporting Hillary, not because we necessarily want her for herself but because we want Bill in the role of First Husband. And if Bill can deal with Hillary, he can surely deal with any global crisis.

Boris mended fences a little with Hillary during a 2015 visit to New York City, though I can't find any reference to him apologizing for the comment, which he called "light-hearted."

Ex-Gitmo detainee connected to Turkey airport attack added to US list of terrorists
A former Gitmo detainee connected to last month's ISIS attack on the Istanbul airport that killed 45 and injured more than 230 others was officially added to the U.S. government's list of designated terrorists Wednesday.

The State Department confirmed to Fox News that Ayrat Nasimovich Vakhitov was at the Guantanamo detention camps from June 13, 2002 until his transfer to Russia by the Bush administration in 2004.

"For an individual to be designated a terrorist by our State Department, the threshold is way high," Tony Shaffer, a former defense intelligence officer , told Fox. "The Pentagon has been very reluctant to release a number of individuals and has had to bow to White House and State Department pressure."

The State Department's announcement of the terrorist designation does not say Vakhitov was once held at Gitmo, nor does it cite his reported ties to the June attack in Turkey. The connection was first reported by the Long War Journal and independently confirmed by Fox.

New Ties Emerge Between Clinton And Mysterious Islamic Cleric
[Daily Caller] A newly-released email and lobbying documents filed with Congress reveals new ties between Clinton world and members of a network operated by a mysterious Islamic cleric from Turkey.

Connections between Clinton and acolytes of the imam, Fethullah Gulen,
...eponymous leader of the gradualist movement sometimes called Islamist Calvinism for its emphasis on charitable service, hard work, modern education combined with Sufi piety, respect for democracy and the law, and a march through Turkish institutions on a scale to make Gramscians green with envy. He was President Erdogan's best friend until 2013, when a corruption probe headed by a Gulenist threatened his government. Mr. Gulen lives in exile in Pennsylvania. We have been following him since 2005...
could muddle the complex relationship between the U.S. and Turkey, a key NATO ally, if the former secretary of state wins the White House.

Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has mounted an aggressive crackdown against Gulen and his followers, known as Gulenists. Erdogan, who was once allied with Gulen, has even personally asked President Obama to extradite the 74-year-old guru, who has lived in self-exile in Pennsylvania’s Pocono mountains since 1999.

Erdogan has accused Gulen of attempting to undermine the Turkish government. Gulen’s followers control many Turkish institutions, including the media, courts, and police force.

Klington director says he would resign if ordered to resume waterboarding
[Reuters] CIA Director John Brennan said on Wednesday he would resign if the next president ordered his agency to resume waterboarding suspected militants, an apparent reference to comments by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump embracing the banned interrogation method.

"I can say that as long as I'm director of CIA, irrespective of what the president says, I'm not going to be the director of CIA that gives that order. They'll have to find another director," said Brennan, who did not mention Trump by name.

The Obama Presidency ‐ Racially Fueled Riots Spike an American Catastrophe:
[Breitbart] There can be no dispute that Barack Obama was forced to wade through unprecedented bigotry in his speedy ascent to the most powerful perch in the world. His predecessor, George W. Bush, called it the "soft bigotry of low expectations."

A street hustler with sterling academic bona fides -- which are always suspect -- Mr. Obama had never accomplished a single thing as a politician when he decided to run for president. In his 2008 campaign, he was most admired for not voting to invade Iraq -- a vote that took place years before he joined the U.S. Senate.

Yet not even one year into his presidency, and while directing two hot wars, Mr. Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy between peoples." He was heralded in particular for his unparalleled success in the Muslim world.

Indeed, the soft bigotry of low expectations exists nowhere so virulently as in the whitest confines of Nordic lands and elite American academia.

The insultingly low bar set for President Obama, however, gave even those American voters who could not support his candidacy or policies some glimmer of hope.

Because he was half-black, half-white, Mr. Obama had more credibility than any president ever elected in American history to be the balm that would finally salve the festering wounds that still divided some Americans 150 years after the end of slavery.

The vast majority of Americans had moved on from those noxious divisions, but a

Syrian rebels say Russian jets hit refugee camp along Jordan border
[Ynet] Jets believed to be Russian on Tuesday struck a refugee camp along Jordan's north-eastern border with Syria, killing at least 12 people and injuring scores in the first such Russian strike near the Jordanian border, rebels said.

Several jets flying at high altitudes struck at noon a makeshift camp where a few hundred, mostly women and kiddies, are stranded in a no-man's-land on the Syrian side of the border, they said.

The Russian Defense Ministry was not immediately available for comment.

The UN's mediator, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, landed at Sanaa airport on Wednesday afternoon ahead of meetings with Houthi and Saleh representatives. The envoy met this week with President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi in the Saudi capital to prepare for a resumption of talks between the two sides in Kuwait on Friday. Fighting has persisted across Yemen despite a truce that came into force on April 11.

On Wednesday pro-government forces seized a mountain base from Houthis in Nahm, northeast of Sanaa, said military front man Abdullah al-Shandaqi. Eight loyalists and 17 rebels were killed in the battle, he told AFP.

A Saudi-led coalition operating in Yemen since March 2015 supported the assault with air strikes, said military sources.

Four soldiers and four rebels also died during battles in Marib province, east of Sanaa, when pro-government forces repelled a rebel attempt to seize a hill overlooking their base, a government source told AFP.

Further north, coalition air strikes against a rebel convoy killed seven rebels in Jawf province, said the army.

In the oil-rich southern province of Shabwa, four soldiers died during battles that saw the army make "slow progress" against rebels, said Colonel Motleq Jawhar, an infantry commander in the region.

Conscript shot dead by sniper in Egypt's North Sinai
Another day, another probable Ansar Bayt al Maqdis attack in North Sinai.
[AlAhram] A conscript was rubbed out on Wednesday by a sniper at a security checkpoint near North Sinai’s Sheikh Zuweid, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

According to security sources, the 21-year-old conscript, Mohammed Ashraf Mohammed from Sharqiya governorate, was standing at a security checkpoint in El-Gora, north of Sheikh Zuweid, when he was shot by an unknown assailant.

His body was taken to the mortuary at El-Arish Military Hospital.

No group has yet grabbed credit for the attack, which comes one day after a decree issued by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi extended the state of emergency in parts of North Sinai for three months starting 29 July.

Iran signals ability to restore nuclear program if needed
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iran’s president says the Islamic Theocratic Republic could restore elements of its nuclear program that were halted under its landmark deal if world powers that backed the agreement don’t live up to their end of the bargain.

President Hassan Rouhani made the remarks televised on state TV on Wednesday, a day ahead of the one-year anniversary of the deal between Tehran and the United States and other world powers.

The agreement called for caps on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions.

Rouhani hailed the nuclear deal as widely beneficial, saying it promotes peace and stability and that violating it "will harm everyone."

But he also assured Iranians that Iran is "completely ready" and able to restore its nuclear program quickly if other parties violate the deal.

ISIS-linked agency confirms Shishani is dead
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A top ISIS group commander, Omar Al-Shishani, has been killed in Iraq, the myrmidon-linked Amaq agency said on Wednesday.

Citing a "military source," Amaq said Shishani was killed "in the town of Sharqat as he took part in repelling the military campaign on the city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
," referring to the last ISIS-held city in Iraq.

Amaq did not specify when Shishani was killed, but the loss of the commander is a significant blow to the myrmidon group, which has suffered a string of setbacks in Iraq this year.

The Pentagon announced in March that American forces had killed Shishani and said his death would likely hamper ISIS’s ability to carry out operations inside and outside of Iraq and Syria.

But it did not specify how or where he was killed.

US officials previously said Shishani "likely died" in an air strike, but reports surfaced that he had survived.

Shishani was a fierce, battle-hardened warlord with roots in Georgia and a thick red beard who was one of the most notorious faces of ISIS.

Shishani, whose nom de guerre means "Omar the Chechen," was one of the ISIS leaders most wanted by Washington which had put a multi-million-dollar bounty on his head.

His exact rank was unclear, but US officials had branded him as "equivalent of the secretary of defence" for the myrmidon group.

Shishani came from the former Soviet state of Georgia’s Pankisi Gorge region, which is populated mainly by ethnic Chechens.

He fought as a Chechen rebel against Russian forces before joining the Georgian military in 2006, and fought Russian forces again in Georgia in 2008.

He later resurfaced in northern Syria as the commander of a group of imported muscle, and became a big shot within ISIS.

ISIS overran large areas north and west of Baghdad in 2014, but has since lost significant ground to Iraqi forces backed by US-led air strikes, training and other assistance.

The Sunni hard boy group has responded to the battlefield setbacks by striking civilians, particularly Shiites, and experts have warned there may be more bombings as the Death Eaters continue to lose ground.

Zoo still insists male macaw didn’t die
We seen dis routine.

[DAWN] KARACHI: The zoo administration has found a ‘replacement’ to dismiss the news that recently appeared in a section of the press that the facility reporting three puma cub deaths in a short period had also lost a male macaw over a month ago, sources told Dawn on Tuesday.

However, the zoo couldn’t find the right species as a ‘replacement’, proving its own claim that the male macaw is still alive false.

During a recent visit to the zoo, two keepers were found hand-feeding a young blue-and-gold macaw (Ara ararauna) in a cage housing two green-winged macaw (Ara chloropterus) chicks along with their mother.

As the keepers fed the young macaw, the mother perched on a log made loud calls, as if she was screaming, and changed its position quite a few times in the cage.

Lesson Learned: State Dept asks for Marine protection in South Sudan
The U.S. military in Africa says it has sent 40 additional soldiers to South Sudan's capital, Juba, to help secure American personnel and facilities in the war-torn city.

Amid a tense cease-fire which has held since Monday night, the U.S. troops deployed at the request of the State Department, said Africom spokeswoman Cpt. Jennifer Dyrcz.

In five days of fighting in the capital President Salva Kiir's forces ousted those loyal to First Vice President Riek Machar from one of their bases. The fighting left hundreds dead in the capital and aid workers said bodies remain in the streets.

The U.S. Embassy in Juba said it is organizing flights to evacuate non-essential staff and for all U.S. citizens wishing to leave South Sudan.

Commercial flights to Juba remain cancelled though charter flights are evacuating hundreds of aid workers and other foreign citizens from the capital.

The U.N. said 36,000 South Sudanese civilians have fled their homes due to the fighting, taking shelter in churches, U.N. bases and aid workers' compounds.

#5  I note that the Marines were only sent in after a ceasefire had held for two days. If this had been another Benghazi, they would have arrived too late.

According to An Nahar, this is another of President Obama's diplomatic triumphs:

President Barack Obama said that 130 more personnel were prepositioned in Djibouti and ready to deploy if necessary.

South Sudan, shepherded into existence by US cash and diplomacy in 2011, has faltered badly in its infancy, and the Obama administration has been accused of abandoning the fragile nation.

Multiple agreements and ceasefires have failed, leaving violence and human rights atrocities unchecked.

During a visit to Kenya last year, Obama put his weight behind efforts for tough action against South Sudan's warring leaders if they fail to curb the violence.

Israel opens Gaza crossing after nine years
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Israel opened a major crossing point between Israel and Gazoo on Wednesday to allow the transfer of vehicles carrying goods for the first time in nine years, officials said.

An AFP photographer saw deliveries arriving through the Erez crossing at the entry to the Paleostinian territory that has been under an Israeli blockade for a decade.

Erez has been restricted to individuals since 2007, with goods going through Kerem Shalom in southern Gazoo.

Residents of the Israeli towns in the area had for months complained about the hundreds of trucks passing through the area daily, which caused heavy traffic and endangered motorists.

In May, then defence minister Moshe Yaalon said Erez would be opened in order to enable a better flow of goods into Gazoo and ease congestion at Kerem Shalom.

Bored young killers
[DAWN] A NEW phenomenon has me rather troubled: bored youngsters embracing bully boy ideologies who end up perpetrating heinous crimes. The path to radicalisation of these youngsters is not understood, hence the puzzlement and astonishment when we hear of such incidents.

A recent example is that of the Bangladesh four, who came from affluent backgrounds and had high levels of education. Earlier, we have the example of Saad Aziz and Faisal Shahzad. And even earlier there was Omar Sheikh. These are just the Paks. What we don’t know is how many youngsters from other countries are also following similar paths.

In the entire galaxy of bad boy fighters across the world, this breed of youngsters might not be in a majority, but the increasing numbers who are taking up arms is an alarming trend. Those who join militias as basic fighters might well come from deprived backgrounds -- who are not fighting in the name of any ideology. And those who are radicalised in religious seminaries similarly tend to come from backgrounds where the full spectrum of opportunities afforded by the modern world is not available to them.

sect in Borno State, North East, Nigeria.

The operation was carried out by troops of 119 Task Force Battalion stationed in Kangarwa community.

A statement issued by army spokesperson, Colonel Sani Usman on Tuesday, said the attack started at about 6.30pm and ended at about 9.30pm.

"After a three-hour shootout with the hard boys, two soldiers were killed and seven others were seriously injured", Colonel Usman said.

He added that several Boko haram members also bit the dust during the clash.

According to Usman, the success of repelling the attack was due to support from the Nigerian and Chadian Air Force fighter jets.

The Army says its troops have maintained highest level alertness and vigilance at the harbour area and they would further exploit and continue with the clearance operation.

Over the past few months, the Nigerian Army has successfully repelled attacks by murderous Moslems in the state.

US labels two Russian ISIS operatives ‘global terrorists’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The US State Department designated two Russians allied to ISIS as "global terrorists" Wednesday, including a former Guantanamo detainee and a Chechen myrmidon tied to deadly attacks in Moscow.

The State Department said Aslan Avgazarovich Byutukaev, also known as Amir Khamzat, is the ISIS leader in Chechnya and responsible for suicide kabooms in Russia including the January 2011 attack on Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport, which killed 35.

Since becoming an ISIS leader in June 2015, the department said, Byutukaev has planned attacks for the group. It said that last November, Russian special forces discovered a large bomb hidden on the side of the road in Ingushetia that was part of a planned attack "directed by Byutukaev."

Ayrat Vakhitov, who also goes by the name Salman Bulgarsky, is a former inmate at the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay who was jugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
in Afghanistan in 2001 and released in 2004 to Russia.
Golly. Possibly it wasn't such a good idea after all.
In recent years, the ethnic Tatar has fought for the ISIS group in Syria and uses the internet to recruit fighters for the group, according to the State Department.

According to a Voice of America report, he was detained by Turkish authorities early this month in relation to the June 28 attack at Ataturk international airport, which left 45 people dead.

"Today’s action notifies the US public and the international community that Aslan Avgazarovich Byutukaev and Ayrat Nasimovich Vakhitov are actively engaged in terrorism," the State Department said.

The designation includes sanctions that prohibit Americans from transactions with the two, and blocks any of their assets under US jurisdiction.

India-Pakistan
Pakistan playing dangerous game since Taliban overthrown: Khalilzad
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The former top American diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad has said Pakistain has been playing a dangerous game since the Taliban group was tossed.

In his testimony before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Khalilzad said Pak proxies pose a severe threat to coalition and Afghan forces and civilians. "Indeed, Pak policy is the principal cause of the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan."

Khalilzad further added "More broadly, Pakistain’s use of turban and terrorist proxies ‐ including to threaten India -- is a significant contributor to the global menace of Islamic extremism. It must be confronted if we are to succeed in defeating terrorism and extremism around the world."

He said since the overthrow of the Taliban regime after 9/11, Pakistain has been playing a perfidious and dangerous double game. It has portrayed itself as a U.S. partner, yet supports the Taliban and the al-Qaeda-linked Haqqani network. Since 2005, the Taliban and Haqqani network have regrouped in Pakistain and waged a devastating insurgency against U.S. and Afghan forces.

According to Khalilzad, poor governance by the Afghan government is a factor in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
’s inability to defeat the hard boys. But the Taliban’s resilience can be attributed above all to the strategic decision of the Pak military and intelligence services to provide sanctuary and support to these groups.

"Pakistain views the Taliban as an effective proxy to ensure Pak dominance over Afghanistan," Khalilzad added. "Islamabad also believes that continuing the war in Afghanistan will lead to a U.S. withdrawal, which would change the balance of power against the current government and in favor of its proxies. Ultimately, Pakistain seeks the overthrow of the current government in Afghanistan because it is not compliant."

In his recommendations, Khalilzad said the May 21 killing of Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour in a U.S. drone strike has created a golden hour to confront Pakistain. Washington can force Islamabad to make a choice: U.S. aid and international support or a continued relationship with the Haqqani network and irreconcilable Taliban.

"Catalyzing a decisive effect on Pak policy, however, will require the U.S. to escalate pressure on Islamabad," Khalilzad said, adding that "Otherwise the opportunity will dissipate. For Islamabad to break with the Haqqani network and the Taliban, the Pak leadership needs to see that continued support for the insurgency will come at a high price."

He also added that escalating drone strikes against Haqqani and irreconcilable Taliban leaders would deliver that message, but drone strikes alone will not be enough without corresponding political and financial pressure.

On the financial side, Khalilzad said Pakistain has been an enormous beneficiary of international support -- specifically from Coalition support funds, bilateral assistance, and multilateral assistance from the IMF and World Bank. In addition to cutting off this assistance, Washington should warn Pakistain that it will face escalating financial sanctions--like those once imposed on Iran--unless it facilitates reconciliation talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.

According to Khalilzad, as an initial step, the U.S. can impose financial and travel restrictions on senior Pak officials known to be complicit in the insurgency, and freeze funds in U.S. banks belonging to Pak entities--both military and corporate--involved in financing the Taliban.

Politically, Pakistain cannot be a member in good standing of the international community so long as its agencies or military services aggress against Afghanistan, he added.

Khalilzad said the U.N. Security Council is an appropriate venue in which to raise Pakistain’s aggression against Afghanistan. To help secure international support for a U.S.-Afghan-sponsored resolution condemning Pakistain, the U.S. should declassify and broadcast information indicating Pak support for the insurgency and its narcotics trafficking.

Libya’s UN envoy says army could be regionalized
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
envoy to Libya says its reconstituted army could be decentralized, an idea aimed at easing the political gridlock surrounding an internationally-backed unity government.

Martin Kobler on Wednesday confirmed reports that the formation of military councils representing Libya’s western, eastern and southern regions is being discussed.

He spoke to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named after holding talks with various Libyan figures in Cairo aimed at resolving the rivalry between the UN-backed government in the capital, Tripoli

, and rival authorities based in the east.

A key point of contention has been the leadership of the army and the future of Gen. Khalifa Hifter, the head of armed forces based in the east, who is deeply unpopular in western Libya. Kobler says his requests for a meeting with Hifter have been denied.

Turkey hints at normalization of ties with Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s prime minister hinted on Wednesday that his country wants to normalize ties with Syria in what would mark a U-turn in its foreign policy after Ankara’s long vociferous objection against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
’s regime.

"I am sure that we will return (our) ties with Syria to normal. We need it," Binali Yildirim said in a televised address Wednesday, describing how Turkey is expanding its circle of friends.

Turkey, which has long argued that only Assad’s departure could stabilize Syria and is a necessary component to yield a political solution in the conflict-torn country, had its premier making the statement following the restoration of diplomatic ties with Russia and Israel.

Russia and Iran both back Assad, and Turkey cut ties with the Syrian regime after a popular uprising erupted in 2011.

"We normalized relations with Russia and Israel. I’m sure we will normalize relations with Syria as well. For the fight against terrorism to succeed stability needs to return to Syria and Iraq," Yildirim said.

He also said that Turkey’s "greatest and irrevocable goal" is to develop relations not only with Syria but also with Iraq and "all our neighbors that surround the Mediterranean and the Black Sea."

While one official told Rooters that "there is currently no change in Turkey’s Syria policy" and that Turkey "does not want to have problems with any countries in the region and emphasizes the importance of ending terrorism," analysts deem Yildirim’s statement as revealing Ankara’s re-organizing its priorities in light of the consequences felt in the country following the Syrian crisis.

For his part, London-based Syrian journalist Ghassan Ibrahim wrote on his official Facebook page that the "password for the closer ties between [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan and [Syrian President] Bashir al-Assad was... the Kurds."

Ibrahim, who has numerously criticized the Assad regime, also wrote speculating in another Facebook post that the normalization of relations between Ankara and Damascus was a pre-condition for Turkey’s normalization with Russia, and both could work to halt the creation of a separate Kurdish state.

The adviser maintained that the whole Congress is aware of Pakistain's importance in the Islamic world, South Asia and in resolving the Afghan issue.

But some Congressmen who are "either not updated or have some concerns" have raised these concerns which are baseless and we are striving to address their concerns, Aziz maintained

Trove of war gadgets seized at Gaza border
[IsraelTimes] The Defense Ministry said Wednesday that border officials had seized a dizzying collection of electronic and surveillance equipment as it was being smuggled into the Gazoo Strip.

Among the items found were 14 small unmanned aerial vehicles and components, security cameras, satellite communications equipment, surveillance cameras, packages of motion sensors binoculars, laser pointers for weapons, communications equipment and electronic boards, tasers, weapons components, diving watches equipped with flashlights, flippers, miniature cameras, GoPro cameras, DVR cameras, and other banned electronic components.

"The discovery was unusual, even to those familiar with the most creative smuggling attempts and methodologies," the ministry said of the find which was made at the Erez border crossing.

The materials were confiscated and an investigation was opened to identify those behind the smuggling attempt.

The ministry did not specify how the equipment was found or what method was used to try to smuggle it into Gazoo, but noted the discovery indicates "the heavy pressure being put on smugglers and terrorist operatives by the Shin Bet [general security service], COGAT, Tax Authority, Israeli Police and the Ministry of Defense Crossings Authority."

Israel maintains tight control on supplies to Gazoo of any electronics and other equipment which could be used for terrorist activities.

In May authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle metal pipes and motors into the Gazoo Strip, which could have been used for building rockets and tunnels.

ISIS reinforces Mosul
(IraqiNews.com) NINEVEH – Despite losing a significant numbers of members and territories under its control in Iraq, the presence of ISIS members in Mosul however is quite high. This information was shared by a source in the Kurdish Peshmerga.

Adding details the source said, “The recapturing of Fallujah to west of Baghdad and the liberation of Qayarah airbase in southern Mosul is of strategic importance for the Iraqi forces: mostly because Qayarah is quite close to Mosul.”

“But the area from here to Mosul, which is around 60 kilometres, is covered with IEDs and this could slow down the approach to Mosul. Moreover, in Mosul there are a significant number of ISIS members and they are equipped with heavy artillery and this could further slow down the process of territory recapturing. But the process can continue with the cooperation of Peshmerga force, Iraqi army and US-led coalition,” the source added.

It is worthy to be mentioned here that after recapturing Fallujah and liberating Qayarah airbase, the Iraqi army promised to retake Mosul and defeat ISIS at its last bastion as well. The Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi had even promised to retake Mosul by the end of this year.

ISIS launches attack on Iraqi troops

(IraqiNews.com) NINEVEH – A source in Nineveh Operations Command informed that ISIS fighters, using mortar shells, attacked military troops south of Mosul. However, the shelling did not cause any casualty.

The source said, “Today, ISIS shelled military troops belonging to Nineveh Operations 15th brigade that was stationed on the banks of the Tigris River near Qayyarah, south of Mosul.”

The source added, “The shelling however did not cause any casualty.”

Transgender woman arrested for voyeurism in Target changing room
Unexpectedly.
[Wash Times] A transgender woman in Idaho was arrested on Tuesday and accused of taking pictures of a woman trying on clothes in a Target changing room.

Police responded to a call on Monday from a woman who said she noticed someone reaching over her stall and taking pictures while she was trying on clothes, the Post Register reported. The victim confronted the perpetrator, who ran out of the store.

Authorities were able to identify the suspect after reviewing security footage and interviewing witnesses.

A news release issued by the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect is Sean Smith, 43, who also goes by the name Shauna Patrick Smith. The suspect faces a charge of felony voyeurism, punishable by up to five years in prison.

The incident comes amid a national boycott effort aimed at Target, after the retail giant said in April it would allow customers to use the intimate facilities corresponding with their professed gender identity.

Pakistan constructs helipad, installations in Paktika
[PAJHWOK] Civil society activists and Provincial Council (PC) members on Wednesday claimed Pak security forces had launched the construction of a helipad and military installations in the Gomal district of southeastern Paktika

province.

Yaqub Khan Manzoor, Youth Cultural Society (YCS) head in Orgun district, said Pak security forces had started work on different facilities. "Construction of the helipad is underway in the Nazam locality of Gomal, 15 kilometres into Afghanistan."

He said the Paktroops had built a gate and other military structures in Khandak and Warsakareas. He suggested the immediate destruction of the installations built on Afghan soil.

Mubin Faqirzada, a provincial council member, confirmed the Pakistain military installation in KhandakWarsak areas. He said a past survey had shown that huge oil and gas reserves existed in the two neighbourhoods.

But Governor Ilyas Wahdat rejected the claims as untrue, saying a government delegation would be dispatched to the area to assess the situation.Pak and Afghan forces recently shot it out over the construction of a gate in Torkham.

Germany plans to apologize over ‘genocide’ in Namibia
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Germany plans to formally apologize to Namibia for the genocide of indigenous Namibians a century ago, a foreign ministry spokeswoman said Wednesday, but added the move would not carry any obligation of reparations.

"We are working towards a joint government declaration with the following elements: common discussions on the historical events and a German apology for the action in Namibia," the spokeswoman, Sawsan Chebli, told news hounds.

The joint declaration with the Namibian government can serve as a basis for a parliamentary resolution, she said, adding however that the step would not translate into legal repercussions for Germany.

"On the question of whether there could be reparations or legal consequences, there are none. The apology does not come with any consequences on how we deal with the history and portray it," she said.Berlin ruled what was then called South-West Africa as a colony from 1884 to 1915.

Incensed by German settlers stealing their land and cattle and taking their women, the Herero people launched a revolt in January 1904 with warriors butchering 123 German civilians over several days. The Nama tribe joined the uprising in 1905.

The colonial rulers responded ruthlessly and General Lothar von Trotha signed a notorious extermination order against the Hereros.

Rounded up in prison camps, captured Namas and Hereros died from malnutrition and severe weather. Dozens had their heads chopped off after their deaths and their skulls sent to German researchers in Berlin for "scientific" experiments.

Up to 80,000 Hereros lived in Namibia when the uprising began. Afterwards, only 15,000 were left.Germany has since 2011 formally handed back dozens of the skulls.

ISIS under attack in Sirte
MISRATA: Libyan forces allied with the UN-backed government have been shelling and carrying out airstrikes on the center of Sirte city in a siege of Daesh there, an official said on Tuesday.

Terrorists defending last Daesh stronghold in Libya have been keeping Libyan forces back with sniper fire and mortars in Sirte where they are now surrounded after a two month campaign to take the city.

The fall of Sirte would be a major blow to Daesh, which took over the city a year ago in the chaos of a civil war between rival factions.

“Our forces have...targeted enemies with artillery and air force around Ouagadougou complex, Ghiza Asskariya district, and in the city center,” said Rida Issa, spokesman for Misrata forces fighting in Sirte. “They have targeted Daesh members, vehicles, ammunition stores, and control rooms.”

He said one Misrata fighter was killed and 20 others wounded in a mortar strike on their position in the Zaafran frontline, near the roundabout where Daesh once crucified victims. The bodies of around 13 Daesh terrorists were found, but Misrata forces were driven back by sniper fire.

Western powers are backing Prime Minister Fayaz Seraj’s government that moved into Tripoli three months ago in an attempt to unify two rival governments and various armed factions. Seraj is working to restart the oil industry.

But while powerful brigades from Misrata city support Seraj for now and lead the fight to liberate Sirte, other hard-liners to the east are still opposing him and his government has made little progress in extending its influence.

Britain
Boris Johnson named FM in new British cabinet
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Boris Johnson, the former London mayor and campaign heavyweight who helped lead Britannia to vote to leave the EU in the June referendum has been appointed foreign secretary in the new cabinet rollout by Theresa May, the UK's freshly-appointed prime minister.

Johnson, who enjoys widespread popular support which at times even threatened to overshadow former Prime Minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
’s own following, dropped out of the leadership race late last month.

May appointed several other prominent party figures to key cabinet posts on Wednesday, hours after replacing David Cameron as head of the UK’s government.

May, 59, who has often been dubbed by the British press as a ’steely’ figure ‐ an allusion at late premier Margaret Thatcher’s ’Iron Lady’ moniker, seemed to waste no time after taking up the reins of power.

Former foreign secretary Philip Hammond has become Britannia's new chancellor of the exchequer, a post equivalent to finance minister. Hammond replaces George Osborne who quit the government after Theresa May was appointed prime minister. Osbourne, who had plead for Britons to remain in the EU, has quit.

As the second lord of the Treasury - the prime minister is the first - Hammond takes over 11 Downing Street, the office next door to the prime minister at Number 10.

The flat above Number 11 is bigger than the flat above number 10. Prime ministers Cameron and Tony Blair opted to take the Number 11 flat and May could well follow suit, leaving Hammond living above Number 10.

'Not expecting this reaction': Wani's killing fuels renewed anger in Kashmir
[DAWN] When Indian forces announced last week that they had killed top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, they called it a major victory in the fight against bandidos turbans in India-held Kashmire (IHK).

They clearly didn't expect the backlash that followed -- an outpouring of public anger, daily protests and dozens dead in the streets.

The killing of Burhan Wani drew tens of thousands to rise up and renew demands for freedom from Indian rule. Wani was born in the southern town of Tral and was a teenager in 2010 when his older brother was beaten by troops on patrol near their home. Shortly after, he joined Hizbul Mujahideen and eventually became the iconic face of Kashmire's militancy.

At least 29 people have died in subsequent festivities and hospitals are struggling with hundreds of injured.

Each day this week has brought a new surge of resistance by young, rock-throwing protesters in jeans and bandanas defying curfews to face down Indian troops firing live ammunition, pellet guns and tear gas.

Officials worry that they've unwittingly revived a rebellion that may be hard to control.

"We were not expecting this huge public reaction," said a top security official engaged in counterinsurgency operations, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
as he was not authorised to speak to news hounds. "It's disturbing."

Wani had been hidden by villagers at least half a dozen times before, as have other anti-India separatists, when soldiers zeroed on their hideouts in villages in the southern parts of the region, according to security officials and local residents.

List Pakistain as state sponsor of terrorism: US Congress committee
[NATION.PK] Top US lawmakers on Tuesday called for cutting financial aid and imposing sanctions against Pakistan while prominent think tanks said it is time to consider putting Pakistan on the list of state sponsor of terrorism.

"Patience (on Pakistan) is growing very thin," Congressman Matt Salmon, Chairman of the Asia and Pacific subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee said.

Just cutting off the funding is not going to be enough, he said and sought for additional measures.

"Those who suggest giving aid to Pakistan need to give justification for using the tax payer’s money," Congressman Brad Sherman, Ranking member of the subcommittee joined Salmon and other lawmakers for actions against Pakistan.

Congressman William Keating, Pro India member of the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Non-Proliferation and Trade argued that there is little reason to believe that Pakistan is going to change its policies of using terrorism as a tool to meet its strategic needs.

Two of the top al Qaeda leaders have been killed in Pakistan, he said.

Keating that the US arms supply to Pakistan is unlikely to help it in the fight against terrorism, but would arm it to be used against India.

Meanwhile, former top diplomats and think tanks said it is time that US consider putting Pakistan on the list of state sponsor of terrorism.

American lawmakers and experts said Pakistan has been treating the US like chumps.

"They are making chumps out of us. They see us we are being so stupid. It seems like paying the mafia," said Congressman Matt Salmon, Chairman of the Asia and Pacific subcommittee of House Foreign Affairs Committee. "If I may use an undiplomatic term. We have been patsies," former Bush era top diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad told lawmakers along with others how Pakistani leadership had gamed the American system for decades.

"Patsies chumps. Most Americans see out of this and yet our so called leaders do not really get it," Salmon added.
Bill Roggio, senior editor of the Long War Journal Foundation for Defense of Democracies along with Khalilzad called for cutting aid toPakistan and put them in the list of State Sponsor of terrorism.

"Pakistanis are very clever in manipulating us. I have to say that," said Khalilzad, sharing his experience of dealing with the Pakistani leadership when he served in various diplomatic position in the Bush era including the US ambassador to Afghanistan and the Permanent Representative of the US to the UN.

#1  The Pakistan arm of the international Muslim Brotherhood movement, the Jamaat-e-Islami, was founded by the Mulana Abdu Ala Maududi in 1941. Still a powerful and influential movement in Pakistan, it has from its inception sought the destruction of the West. It has helped spawn nearly a dozen Islamist movements, and has long infiltrated the Pakistan military. The US played Uncle Sugar to the Pak military during the war in Afghanistan. And without reason, that relationship continues to this date and should be ended. Now.

First of seven Yazidi refugee families arrives in Canada
[RUDAW.NET] Operation Ezra, a project launched by a Canadian Jewish group to bring seven Yazidi refugee families to Canada welcomed its first family at the Winnipeg airport Monday night.

A crowd gathered in the airport of the central Canadian city to greet the tired but happy family of eight with cheers.

Canada’s refugee sponsorship system has made global headlines as the country welcomed 28,755 Syrian refugees in the eight months from early November 2015 to early July 2016. Of that total, 10,212 were privately sponsored, according to the most recent statistics from the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.

In a private sponsorship, individual Canadians or private organizations commit to provide financially for the sponsored refugees for one year and to ease their transition into Canadian life.

Operation Ezra describes itself as "the only comprehensive Yazidi refugee relief project in Canada and indeed the world," in a statement published on its website. "This is an unprecedented community-wide undertaking involving dedicated community members from all walks of life."

The sponsorship was conceived by the Jewish group Winnipeg Friends of Israel but it grew to become a multi-faith partnership with local groups of a variety of faiths. Local businesses have donated basic necessities the families will need and volunteering youth groups have been busy delivering furniture and collecting donated items.

"The Jewish Community undertook Operation Ezra (the Hebrew word for help) because it was the right thing to do," they state on their website.

two men and is seeking a third over a June highway bombing that killed a woman and maimed three of her children.

An Interior Ministry statement late on Tuesday accused the two men arrested -- 35-year-old Hassan Jassim Hassan al-Haiki and 26-year-old Hussain Ibrahim Ali Hussain Marzooq -- of receiving military training from Iran.

It says the third suspect, 27-year-old Hussain Ahmed Abdullah Ahmed Hussain, also received military training from Iran and had fled to the Islamic Theocratic Republic.
Another Ynet article adds:
Iran on Wednesday denied any involvement.

An Interior Ministry statement late Tuesday says al-Haiki was taught "in making and using weapons and explosives from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard," whom acts as the country's paramilitary force.

Guard killed by land mine on Yemen border
Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry says a border guard has been killed by a land mine near the kingdom's frontier with war-ravaged Yemen.

An Interior Ministry statement issued late on Tuesday says the guard died in the Saudi province of Jazan, along the mountainous border the kingdom shares with Yemen.

The statement did not say who laid the land mine. However, such bombings have been routine since a Saudi-led coalition began a war in March 2015 against Yemen's Shiite militias known as Houthis.

Court rules on Boko Haram sponsor’s bail August 4
[THENATIONONLINENG.NET] The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday picked August 4 for ruling on the bail application filed by a suspected Boko Haram

sponsor, Salami Abdullahi.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole fixed the date after hearing the submissions of the defence and prosecuting counsel, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Kolawale also fixed October 25 and November 3 for continuation of trial.

Abdullahi, a businessman, is standing trial for allegedly sponsoring activities of the Boko haram sect.

His counsel, Mr. Jubril Okutepa (SAN), said the law allowed multiple applications for bail in the same court and when there were exceptional circumstances.

Okutepa said Section 161 (2b) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) defined exceptional circumstances to include instances where the prosecution exceeded one year.

He said, "It will be recalled that my lord ordered accelerated hearing of this case since 2014 and we are now in 2016. The accelerated hearing ordered by the court has not been followed.

"Besides there is a change in circumstances, the prosecution called seven witnesses and the evidence they have is consistent with the extra-judicial evidence of the second defendant that he knows nothing about Boko Haram.

"There is inordinate delay and what if at the end of the day, the defendant is not found guilty, will he be compensated?"

with him, and released with charges dropped, took part in the deadliest terror attack in modern Turkish history.

Ahmet Gunes was arrested during a roadside stop in Gaziantep, southern Turkey, on March 25, 2014. Searches of the car he was travelling in and his home unearthed documents related to the Islamic State, including footage of Gunes shooting an alleged Syrian member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Latakia, Syria.

Footage of Gunes receiving weapons and explosives training at an Islamic State (ISIS) camp in Syria was also discovered by the police.

Gunes, along with Mustafa Delibaslar, who was driving the car at the time of their arrest, and Ökkes Durmaz who was travelling with Gunes, were charged on April 22, 2014 with being members of a terrorist organization. On May 27, 2014, the additional charge of intentional murder was filed against Gunes.

Gunes argued in a preliminary court hearing that he killed the Syrian man out of concern for his own life and had no connections with the ISIS terrorist group.

The three suspects were released on October 30, 2014 pending trial. But none of them showed up at their trials and the police were unable to locate them.

The charges against Delibaslar and Durmaz were dropped due to insufficient evidence and a travel ban on the two was lifted. But the trial of Gunes continued in absentia and the prosecutor sought a life sentence on the murder charge.

Gunes was found guilty of receiving training at an ISIS camp, murder, and joining a terrorist group. He was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison but the court reduced his sentence to six years and three months due to his "good conduct" during the trial process; a process he did not participate in as he failed to appear and the police could not locate him.

Gunes was one of 19 suspected holy warriors monitored by Turkish police between 2012 and 2014, according to Hurriyet Daily News. He was suspected of helping to finance ISIS and is believed to be currently in Syria.

Delibaslar, the driver of the car arrested with Gunes who had the charges against him dropped, was one of the suspects in a double bombing outside Ankara’s central railway station on October 10, 2015. The blast killed 103 and is the deadliest terror attack in modern Turkish history.

Domestic Insurrection Digest, July 14th, 2016

From Besoeker:
Indianapolis: Man wearing BLM shirt fires 17 shots at officer's patrol car, home

[Right Scoop] An Indianapolis man is facing charges after he fired roughly 17 shots at a police officer's residence and marked patrol car while screaming anti-police obscenities, police said.

The officer had just completed an overnight shift and returned home when he heard the gunfire about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said. The officer and his family were inside the home at the time of the attack, but no one was injured, Guns.com reported.

Witnesses recalled seeing a man walking in the neighborhood earlier wearing a T-shirt that said "Black Lives Matter" on one side and obscenities directed at police on the other, a local CBS News affiliate reported.

Police believe that man was 27-year-old parolee March Eugene Ratney, who lives near the officer, police said. A nearby surveillance camera captured images of a fleeing vehicle shortly after the shooting. Mr. Ratney was apprehended less than an hour later. He denied the shooting to investigators, and police concluded the interview after Mr. Ratney reportedly became irate and urinated in the interview room. Charges are forthcoming.

A local Fox News affiliate reported that the targeted officer had arrested Mr. Ratney on a gun charge several years ago.

Witnesses told police that Mr. Ratney was screaming anti-police obscenities as he shot at the officer's home, Guns.com reported.

IMPD Chief Troy Riggs confirmed during a press conference Tuesday that Mr. Ratney was wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt.

"Because this individual is wearing a T-shirt doesn't mean he represents everyone that's associated with that organization," Chief Riggs said. "And I want to be clear: We cannot let the actions of one individual represent an entire group of citizens that utilized their First Amendment rights peacefully over the weekend in the protests here in Indianapolis.

"However, I would also say to any organization that protests the police department to not let the actions of a few police officers tarnish the good, dedicated and honorable work of our IMPD officers," he added.

The shooting follows Thursday's targeted killings of five police officers during a Black Lives Matter rally in Dallas, which was called in response to the police-shooting deaths of two black men in Minnesota and Louisiana.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered during a Black Lives Matter rally in Indianapolis Saturday and applauded the protection of IMPD officers after the march, CBS News reported.

Dogs break into zoo, kill monkeys
[THEADVOCATE] Three monkeys at the Baton Rouge Zoo are dead after dogs broke into the zoo in the early hours of Tuesday morning and attacked the primates as they reached out of their exhibit.

Kaki Heiligenthal, the zoo’s director of marketing and development, said Wednesday that zoo officials are still trying to figure out the sequence of events that led to the monkeys’ deaths. But surveillance videos have helped them put together some of the clues.

LNA commander warns Derna residents: expel mujahideen or be bombed
Benghazi, 13 July 2016:

The head of the Libyan National Army’s Omar Mukhtar Operations Room which covers the Derna area has ordered people in Derna to rise up against the mujahideen currently controlling the town, to expel them and seize their weapons. If they do not do so, he says, they risk being bombed. The threat by Brigadier Kamal Al-Jabali was made today, according to the pro-LNA offices of the Libyan news agency LANA based in Beida.

Jabali specifically warned the town’s Omboukh, “400” and Lamis districts as well as the areas around the Pearl Hotel and the thermal power station, five kilometres west of the town centre, that they would all be targeted unless the mujadideen were kicked out.

Under siege with the LNA blocking roads in and out, Derna has seen an increase in the number of LNA bombing raids over the past week. The area near the power station was reportedy targeted yesterday. Last Saturday, LNA helicopter gunships hit the port, the court building, an apartment block and buildings formerly used by a Turkish company. Since then, the Derna Mujahideen Shoura Council (DMSC), the real power in the town, has shut down the court and police station and told staff to leave in the hope that it would deter further raids.

It has also issued a statement that that it had already handed over the Pearl Hotel, the port and the university buildings to the relevant authorities, insisting that LNA claims that weapons and ammunition were being stored there were untrue.

The LNA’s demand that the mujahideen be expelled is unlikely to be heeded. Ordinary Derna residents are in no position to force out the DMSC which, in any event, is very much a local organisation.

For its part, the DMSC is likely to want to keep residents exactly where they are. It knows that any bombings that result in civilian deaths in Derna will almost certainly draw international condemnation. Last month, following the deaths of two children and two women in LNA air strikes against the town, UN Special Envoy Martin Kobler warned that it might amount to a war crime and that those who killed civilians had to be held accountable.

Poll Sez Race Relations at Lowest Ebb Since Rodney King
[NYT/CBS News]Sixty-nine percent of Americans say race relations are generally bad, one of the highest levels of discord since the 1992 riots in Los Angeles during the Rodney King case, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.
Unexpectedly. In the NY Slimes, no less.
Despite President Obama's insistence at a memorial service for the fallen officers that the races in the United States are "not as divided as we seem," the poll found that black and white Americans hold starkly different views on race, particularly regarding the treatment of African-Americans by the police.

Égorger vos fils, vos compagnes!

Aux armes, citoyens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Marchons, marchons!
Qu'un sang impur

Que veut cette horde d'esclaves,
De traîtres, de rois conjurés?
Pour qui ces ignobles entraves,

Nos fronts sous le joug se ploieraient
De vils despotes deviendraient

Tremblez! vos projets parricides

Épargnez ces tristes victimes,
À regret s'armant contre nous. (bis)

Mais ces complices de Bouillé,
Tous ces tigres qui, sans pitié,
Déchirent le sein de leur mère!

Aux armes, citoyens...

Amour sacré de la Patrie,
Conduis, soutiens nos bras vengeurs
Liberté, Liberté chérie,
Combats avec tes défenseurs! (bis)
Sous nos drapeaux que la victoire
Accoure à tes mâles accents,
Que tes ennemis expirants
Voient ton triomphe et notre gloire!

According to a statement by NDS, the two men have been identified as Ehsanullah and Asim who were accompanied by two othe individuals identified as Rahmullah and Hussain hailing originally from the Parwan province of Afghanistan.

NDS further added that the men were looking to join the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in Syria.

This comes as the Ministry of Defense (MoD) earlier said Chechens, Punjabis, Arabs, Uzbeks, Uyghur and other foreign holy warriors are actively participating in the war in Afghanistan and are continuously killing innocent Afghan civilians.

MoD said the regional intelligence agencies and terrorist groups are imposing on the Afghan nation and have a critical role in the ongoing violence in the country.

According to MoD, the holy warriors are deployed to Afghanistan with full financial and military support under the name of holy war.

Republicans plan to ditch two state solution in Middle East
[Iraq Sun] The Republic Party in the United States is to drop any reference to Paleostinians in its party platform, and is to ditch its support for the two-state solution.

It also designates Jerusalem as "the undivided capital" of Israel, and designates the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement ("BDS") protestors as inherently anti-Semitic.

The decision came Tuesday in a vote by the platform's 2016 national security subcommittee.

Former Republican President George W. Bush proposed the two-state solution in 2002 when he introduced his so called 'road map' in a bid to win support from Arab nations for his proposed invasion of Iraq. It was officially enshrined in the GOP platform in 2004.

In 2012 the official party platform embodied the aspirations of the Paleostinians and supported the establishment of "two democratic states."

As current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is openly questioning the two-state solution on the campaign trail, the party itself has distanced itself from the concept. It also sets out a threat to withdraw funding from any Paleostinian body that attempts to circumvent direct negotiations with Israel. The new language throws into doubt new French initiatives to kick-start the grinding of the peace processor.

"The US seeks to assist in the establishment of comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East, to be negotiated among those living in the region," says the new 2016 wording in the platform. "We oppose any measures intended to impose an agreement or to dictate borders or other terms, and call for the immediate termination of all US funding of any entity that attempts to do so."

The amendment to the platform also rejects the notion that Israel is an "occupier," describing it as "a false notion." It sets out that Jerusalem is "the undivided capital of Israel," ignoring the rights of Paleostinians who are in the majority in East Jerusalem. This too is a reversal of a long-held Republican Party policy, and in fact U.S. policy that final status terms of Jerusalem should be decided between the Israelis and the Paleostinians.

J Street, the U.S.-based Israeli lobby group that supports a two-state solution reacted angrily to the Republican party move.

"Most offensively, all mention of the Paleostinians has been taken out of the text, sending the clear message that the Republican Party does not care about them at all and regards them as an invisible people," a statement from the organization released on Tuesday said.

"This language is dangerous and irresponsible. It breaks with over half a century of bipartisan U.S. consensus on Middle East policy and disavows the important achievements of previous Republican presidents in seeking peace between Israel and the Paleostinians. It would place the Republican Party to the right of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who continues to maintain that he supports the two-state solution."

"The text could still be changed as it moves through the approval process, and we strongly urge Republican delegates to do so," the J Street statement said. "This platform would certainly embolden the Israeli settler movement and those who wish to annex the West Bank. It would weaken Paleostinian moderates and strengthen holy warriors advocating violence. Those who care about protecting Israel's future as a secure and democratic homeland for the Jewish people should recognise that this proposed language severely undermines that goal."

NYT: Donald Trump Is Right About Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
[NYT] Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg needs to drop the political punditry and the name-calling.

Three times in the past week, Justice Ginsburg has publicly discussed her view of the presidential race, in the sharpest terms. In an interview with The Times published Sunday, Justice Ginsburg said, "I can’t imagine what the country would be -- with Donald Trump as our president," joking that if her husband were alive, he might have said, "It’s time for us to move to New Zealand."

Earlier, in an interview with The Associated Press that appeared on Friday, when asked to consider a Trump victory, Justice Ginsburg replied, "I don’t want to think about that possibility, but if it should be, then everything is up for grabs."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
ISIS launches attack at Palmyra
[ARA News] HOMS – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Wednesday attacked headquarters of the Syrian army forces in the vicinity of the ancient Palmyra city in Homs province, killing and wounding dozens of Syrian soldiers, activists reported.

ISIS militants hit an army base near the grain silos of Palmyra using mortar shells.

“The bombardment of the base was followed by sporadic clashes between ISIS fighters and the Syrian regime’s army forces, where heavy and light weapons were used. The death toll among the army troops reached 17, and over 20 others were injured,” media activist Adil al-Bakri told ARA News in Palmyra.

On the other hand, eight ISIS militants were reported dead and at least 10 others were injured in the clashes on Wednesday.

In the meantime, pro-regime Russian warplanes bombed ISIS fighting positions and destroyed at least two ISIS vehicles, according to a Syrian army officer.

This comes just a few days after ISIS militants captured three security checkpoints from the Syrian army east of Palmyra. According to military sources and local activists, ISIS renewed its attacks on the pro-regime forces in Palmyra on Saturday, marking the resumption of violence to the ancient city which was regained by Syrian army forces –supported by a Russian air cover– from ISIS militants in March.

“ISIS fighters launched a surprise attack on Syrian army checkpoints in eastern Palmyra. The group has used mortar fire and heavy weapons in the attack, forcing the regime troops to evacuate at least three security checkpoints,” media activist Amro al-Hussain told ARA News in Palmyra, adding that the Syrian army forces withdrew towards their headquarters inside the city of Palmyra, after seven of their soldiers were killed and more than 15 others were wounded in the offensive.

ISIS jihadis have reportedly advanced in the Sawami area in Palmyra suburbs, pushing the Syrian army back towards the city centre.

In May 2015, ISIS took over Palmyra after fierce battles with Syrian regime army forces.

In March 2016, the pro-regime troops supported by Russian air force were able to impose full control over Palmyra downtown after ISIS extremists retreated towards the northern villages of Palmyra and its eastern outskirts. The group’s leadership has later ordered its militants to withdraw towards its main bastion of Raqqa, northeastern Syria.

In August 2015, satellite images confirmed the destruction of the Baal Shamin temple in Syria’s ancient city of Palmyra, according to the United Nations, which condemned ISIS claims of destroying the temple. The U.N. has slammed the destruction of the temple as a “war crime,” and the act has raised concerns for the rest of the UNESCO World Heritage site. Also, ISIS published images last August, showing militants placing explosives into the temple in order to destroy the ancient monuments arguing they are worshipped by people and must be smashed, according to ISIS ideology.

Government
Senate probe finds ex-top US diplomat in Jerusalem deleted emails
Like mistress, like man. And the staff is either not trying to quietly see that regulations are followed or they're participating. The next non-Democratic president will have to run the Niagara River through that stable.
[IsraelTimes] A senior US diplomat deleted an untold number of work emails, apparently unaware that even routine messages received and sent by a top government official should be saved, according to a Senate investigation released Tuesday.

When Michael Ratney served as the top diplomat in Jerusalem, he found emails with attachments to be a nuisance, the report from the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations said. So, at times, he simply got rid of them to keep his inbox from breaching the storage limits. Ratney, now the US Special Envoy for Syria, didn’t know he was required to keep the messages, the report said.

The Federal Records Act requires the preservation of government records.

The disclosure of Ratney’s electronic housekeeping comes as Republican outrage mounts over Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Elihu B. Washburne ...
’s use of a private email server for government business during her tenure as secretary of state. The Justice Department announced last week Clinton would not be prosecuted over her handling of classified information, triggering waves of criticism from GOP politicians.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch on Tuesday defended her decision to close the Clinton email investigation without criminal charges, telling the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday that she accepted the unanimous recommendation of career FBI Sherlocks and attorneys.

The Senate investigations subcommittee, chaired by Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said it uncovered Ratney’s "retention problem" while examining how State Department grants to aid peace negotiations between Israel and Paleostine also helped create a campaign to oppose Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s election in 2015.

The report found no legal wrongdoing by the State Department and said the grassroots group that received the nearly $350,000 in grants, OneVoice, complied with the terms of its grants. But after the grant period ended, "the group deployed the campaign infrastructure and resources created, in part, using US grant funds to support a political campaign to defeat the incumbent Israeli government," the report said.

Portman chided the State Department for ignoring "warning signs" and underwriting "a politically active group in a politically sensitive environment with inadequate safeguards."

Sen. Claire McCaskill
...Now, why would I pay taxes on my airplane? Send the bill to the taxpayers!...
of Missouri, the subcommittee’s top Democrat, said that while the report "shows no wrongdoing" by the B.O. regime, it "highlights deficiencies" in State Department policies that should be addressed to ensure taxpayer dollars are protected.

Ratney was consul general in Jerusalem from 2012 to 2015 during the award and oversight of the grants to OneVoice.

The report said the State Department "was unable to produce all documents responsive to the subcommittee’s requests due to its failure to retain complete email records" for Ratney.

Portman’s front man, Kevin Smith, said the subcommittee became aware during its investigation of at least five separate emails that were provided by OneVoice but not State.

The subcommittee has no way of knowing precisely how many additional emails Ratney could have been deleted, Smith said.

Terror Networks
Islamic State reportedly preparing for end of its so-called caliphate
[FOXNEWS] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
terror leaders are reportedly preparing for the fall of its so-called caliphate after the U.S.-led coalition and Russian-backed forces made significant gains in recent months in Iraq and Syria.

The Washington Post reported Tuesday that the terror group’s leaders in Syria are bracing for its strongholds to fall, but vow to continue its wave of terror attacks abroad. U.S. counterterrorism experts believe the recent large-scale attacks in Istanbul and Baghdad are a sign that its reign in the Middle East is dwindling.

Experts still believe that even if the bully boyz affiliated with ISIS start to move underground, the group will still remain dangerous abroad.

"Where Al Qaeda was hierarchical and somewhat controlled, these guys are not. They have all the energy and unpredictability of a populist movement," retired Air Force Gen. Michael Hayden told The Post.

ISIS officials still believe that its vision of a "caliphate" across the Middle East is still viable despite its losses across the region it claims. One also insisted that the group had "shifted some of our command, media and wealth structure to different countries."

Officials in the terror group issued a grim statement to its fighters that soon all could be lost. The Post reported that an editorial in ISIS’ weekly Arabic newsletter acknowledged that its territory could be lost just two years have rejoicing in the start of its Islamic State across the Middle East.

In the editorial, the group insists that the Islamic State will survive even if its foes take all of its territory. However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
US- and Russian-backed forces would have to wait for victory, "until an entire generation of Moslems that witnesses the establishment of the Islamic State and the return of the caliphate ... is wiped out."

"They don’t want to lose territory," Cole Bunzel, a doctoral candidate at Princeton University’s Near Eastern studies department who translated ISIS’ editorial on the future of the caliphate, told The Post. "But they’re trying to remind people that the group has a long history and they’re going to persist, just as they did in earlier times."

As illustrated by BLM + post-Dallas calls for black separatism in the US, how can the ISIS/ISIL be losing + the Caliphate ending when Western Secularists are all but pushing for the US-West to implement Sharia.

Iraqi army enters second day of battle to take Qayara from ISIS

for the second day, with the coalition air force and Iraqi artillery bombing the entrenched holy warriors.

"The US-led coalition warplanes have been persistently bombing ISIS positions in Qayara. In the meantime, ISIS has transferred its heavy weapons into the town and they have been setting oil wells in the area on fire since yesterday," said Hevidar Ahmed, Rudaw correspondent on the frontline.

According to Ahmed, "last night, a record number of US soldiers were stationed at the Qayara air base."

"Many of the ISIS murderous Moslems fighting in Qayara are from Morocco, though many of them fled the town and got killed," said Shekhani.
Amin Shekhani, a Kurdish officer in the Iraqi army said that the majority of the ISIS murderous Moslems in Qayara are of foreign nationality.

"Many of the ISIS murderous Moslems fighting in Qayara are from Morocco, though many of them fled the town and got killed," said Shekhani.

Iraqi troops captured the Qayara air base on Saturday after several weeks of military operation in the area that also freed ten villages from the Lion of Islam group.

Shekhani thought ISIS has been greatly weakened in the area as seen in their lack of resistance at the Qayara air base.

The Qayara base lies not far from Mosul which the Iraqi army said ISIS had turned into a bomb-making factory and a prison where many prisoners were freed upon its capture on Saturday.

The Iraqi army is approaching Qayara from the east and south hoping to isolate the town from reinforcements.

It is believed that the Qayara air base will be used by both the Iraqi army and its coalition partners in the final offensive against ISIS in Mosul city.

Iraqi forces tighten noose around ISIS militants in Mosul
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi government forces advancing on the ISIS-held city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
retook a village from the gunnies on Tuesday and linked up along the Tigris river with army units pushing from a separate direction, Defence Minister Khalid al-Obeidi said.

The territorial gain, which followed the recapture of a key air base nearby at the weekend, further isolated Mosul in preparation for a government assault to recover Iraq's second largest city 60 km to the north.

"Forces from the 9th Armored Division and the counter-terrorism service liberated Ajhala village north of Qayara base," Obeidi said on Twitter.

"Our heroes arrived at the riverbank and made contact with Nineveh Liberation Operation units," he added, referring to troops who had set out from Makhmour, 25 km east of the Tigris, in March.

The newly retaken territory still needs to be secured since ISIS bully boyz remain holed up in several towns behind the government's front line, a military front man said.

Backed by air support from a US-led military coalition, government forces on Saturday regained Qayara air base, which is to be turned into a logistics hub for the main assault on Mosul.

On Monday, US Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced the dispatch of 560 additional soldiers to Iraq, most of whom will work from Qayara to assist the Iraqi thrust towards Mosul.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has pledged to retake the city, the largest still held by ISIS, by year-end, but there is still debate in Washington about the timing of any move.

Suicide bombings like the one in Baghdad on July 3 that killed nearly 300 people, one of the largest attacks since the US-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein 13 years ago, suggest the group could remain a long-term threat.

ISIS claimed another boom-mobile on Wednesday in Baghdad's northern outskirts that left nine people dead, according to medical and security sources.

On Wednesday, Abadi's government urged the postponing of demonstrations called for by powerful Shi'ite Moslem holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah...
later this week to pressure politicians to implement long-promised reforms.

A statement from Abadi warned the protests could land the country in "chaos ... and end up serving the goals of the enemy and its terrorism".

Sadr, whose supporters twice stormed Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone earlier this year, called for a reprieve from protests during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which ended last week.

Where dreams take flight: the weird world of Pakistan pigeon racing
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A flock of pigeons take off from a Lahore roof top at dawn, rising above the city’s Mughal-era minarets before disappearing out of sight. Rather than being viewed as pests, these birds are champions of endurance who evoke a passionate following across Pakistain.

"It is a love affair," says Akhlaq Khan, a famous octogenarian pigeon-fancier and author of the only book on the subject in Pakistain.

"You don’t see anything there, no difference between the birds," he says, cradling a plump bird with a white body and colored head.
