BOOM: Charlottesville Police Officer Tells All!
The data on this video is UNCONFIRMED.
A Charolottesville PD officer accuses the leftist Mayor of Charlottesville of setting up the violent confrontation between left and right and prevented LE from doing their jobs - he should be investigated and if these accusations prove true charged with aiding and abetting a riot, conspiracy to start a riot, wrongful death of a participant, etc.

"This kind of setup confrontation/crises is right out of Alynsky's Rules for Radicals and will continue if the DOJ doesn't nip this in bud NOW!"

GORKA: Clinton Allies are Working From Within the WH to Ruin POTUS (Video)
[Newsweek] Donald Trump is being undermined by White House insiders who would rather have worked for Hillary Clinton, according to former deputy assistant to the president Sebastian Gorka.

Gorka, who disputed reports he was asked to leave his role and insisted he resigned shortly after the departure of Steve Bannon, slammed West Wing insiders in an interview with Radio 4 on Sunday.

"Hopefully everybody who followed the campaign of Donald J Trump understood that he won against immense odds. Our victory was an insurgency that took over the behemoth that is the swamp that is the Washington administrative state. It was a hostile takeover. Right now the forces that are un-Trumpian are in ascendance. I put that in my letter to the president, but that will change," Gorka told presenter Paddy O’Connell.

State Dept.: 16 U.S. Embassy Personnel in Cuba Injured by Sonic Device Attack
[PJ] WASHINGTON -- The State Department confirmed today that at least 16 U.S. Embassy employees in Cuba suffered symptoms from an attack with a sonic device.

Press secretary Heather Nauert told reporters that all of the U.S. government employees "have been provided medical treatment in the United States as well as in Cuba."

"We take this situation extremely seriously," she said. "We are trying to provide them the help, the medical care, the treatment, and the support that they need and the support that they deserve."

Nauert said "the incidents are no longer occurring."
Please move along. Nothing to be seen... or not heard here any longer.

Ireland's sole Confederate monument at risk of removal amid U.S. uproar
[Wash Times] A local lawmaker in Galway County, Ireland is lobbying for the removal of a monument honoring a native son who fought for the Confederacy as similar tributes continue to come down across the pond in the old South and beyond.

Councillor Shaun Cunniffe this week said he’ll use an upcoming municipal meeting in the town of Taum to discuss the future of a plaque commemorating Richard 'Dick' Dowling, Ireland’s only Confederate memorial, according to The Irish Post.

Dowling was born near Tuam in 1837 but fled to the U.S. as a kid when his family emigrated during the Great Famine. He eventually settled in Houston, Texas, and a plaque currently inside Tuam Town Hall recognizes him as a "business and civic leader" credited with starting the Lone Star State’s first-ever oil company.

The monument only hints as Dowling’s involvement as a Confederate lieutenant, however, and Mr. Cunniffe said he wants it gone given the current controversy unfolding in the U.S. surrounding similar monuments.

"Having thought about it, I think it’s fair to say that even though he was a great businessman and civic leader, [he was] a successful Confederate in the army. The whole point of the Confederate war was to support slavery in the South," Mr. Cunniffetold The Journal, a Dublin-based news site.

'Civil Disobedience' March From Charlottesville to DC Will Demand Trump's Removal

Protesters are planning a march starting from Charlottesville, Virginia to Washington, D.C. to fight white supremacy and demand that President Trump be removed from office.

"The March to Confront White Supremacy" will spend ten days starting on Monday, August 28 travelling to the nation's capitol and then occupy it with non-violent demonstrations.

"For years, white supremacist violence, rhetoric, and policies have escalated and intensified – exploding during Donald Trump's run for president and reaching a boiling point in Charlottesville," the website for the event reads.

White nationalist rallies in Charlottesville, Virginia turned violent earlier this month, leaving one dead and the nation reeling. Although President Trump repeatedly condemned the white supremaci
st and Nazi ideologies of the rioters, some on the left are still convinced he is racist.

Never Trump' Ex-Bush Adviser Wehner Calls for ‘Shadow Government' to Undermine Trump
[Breitbart] Peter Wehner the "Never Trumper" and former George W. Bush adviser, is so distraught that President Donald Trump’s supporters are sticking by Trump that he is calling for Republican officials to form a "shadow government" to undermine Trump and his agenda.

Writing in the New York Times, of course, Wehner declares "what’s required now is a comprehensive, consistent case by Republican leaders at the state and national levels that signals their opposition to the moral ugliness and intellectual incoherence of Mr. Trump."

"Rather than standing by the president, they should consider themselves liberated and offer a constructive, humane and appealing alternative to him," Wehner writes in his "Sunday Review" column. "They need to think in terms of a shadow government during the Trump era, with the elevation of alternative leaders on a range of matters."

He says "this approach involves risk and may not work" and predicts it will provoke "an angry response" from the "Breitbart-alt-right-talk-radio part of the party."

"So be it," Wehner continues, adding that "Republicans who don’t share Mr. Trump’s approach have to hope that his imploding presidency has created an opening to offer a profoundly different vision of America, one that is based on opportunity, openness, mobility and inclusion."

He calls for a "new intellectual infrastructure to address what may prove to be one of the largest economic disruptions in history" and implores "people in positions of influence" to "appeal to moral idealism."

Follow-up: Indonesian Islamic State Militants Captured While Building Radioactive ‘Dirty Bomb’
[Breitbart] A raid conducted against Islamist bully boyz by Indonesian police in West Java last week assumed new significance, as sources in the Indonesian government revealed to Rooters that the bully boyz were working on building a radioactive "dirty bomb."

The original police report about the arrest of five suspects claimed they were building conventional chemical bombs, but now Rooters’ sources say the gang was extracting thorium-232 from household items and hoping to "cook" it into deadly uranium-233 with microwave ovens or a medical X-ray machine. The radioactive material would then be mixed with the current terrorist explosive of choice, TATP or "Mother of Satan," creating a "dirty bomb" that would spray the blast area with radioactive material.

According to Indonesian police, the bully boyz believed it would take about three weeks to produce a dirty bomb. They were about one week into the project at the time of the raid.
Fortunate timing.
Contemporaneous reports on the August 15 raid that broke up the bomb plot identified the suspects as members of JAD, or Jamaah Ansharut Daulah, a group allied with the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
. The suspects reportedly aspired to bomb the presidential palace in Jakarta and a police headquarters building, among other targets.

The U.S. State Department’s official terrorist designation of JAD describes it as an umbrella organization formed in 2015 from "almost two dozen Indonesian Death Eater groups that pledged allegiance to ISIS leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
." They have carried out deadly attacks in the past.

Rooters notes that the leader of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah is an Indonesian national named Bahrun Naim who is currently believed to be working from Syria. Naim is listed as the author of an Indonesian-language bomb manual that was literally named "Nuclear for Dummies" (misspelled "Nuclear for Dummy" in the version distributed by Naim’s now-defunct blog).
A future best seller, no doubt, despite the blog being defunct.
The book describes a process for creating dirty bombs that is very similar to what the West Java ring was attempting. Indonesian police stated last week that the suspects they took into custody were working from a bomb-making manual written by Naim, but they did not reveal its title or contents.

"Mastering weaponry is essentially every Moslem’s duty. This paper, we hope, also can motivate the Moslem mujahideen to learn nuclear science easily and apply it," reads the introduction to the manual, according to Rooters.
If learning nuclear science were easy, we'd all have done it.
Rooters took the precaution of interviewing an expert in radiological devices, Peter Hayes of the Nautilus Institute, who said it was very unlikely the process laid out in Naim’s manual would work the way he described because medical X-ray machines and microwave ovens aren’t powerful enough to convert thorium into uranium.

Hayes also speculated that efforts to "cook" thorium-232 in a microwave might produce enough radioactive byproducts to inflict "painful and rapid death" upon the bomb-makers,
Think what the arresting officers might have found had they waited a week or two longer...
which will not sound very comforting to those unlucky enough to live next door to aspiring dirty bomb makers.

Also not comforting: Rooters reports two of the suspects tossed in the calaboose
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
by Indonesian police were migrant workers who were recently deported from Singapore and Hong Kong for posting radical Islamist material online. They evidently spent about a month in a "deradicalization shelter" before hooking up with the other turbans involved in the dirty bomb plot.
Mujahideen gotta mu, jihadis gotta di.

China-Japan-Koreas
Is Kim Jong-un Crazy? No More than Dr. Strangelove
[American Thinker] When North Korea’s military publicly announced plans for a mid-August launch of four intermediate ballistic missiles near the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam, President Donald Trump quickly responded. He famously told reporters that "fire and fury" would be the likely response to any North Korean provocation. A follow-up Presidential tweet on August 11th proclaimed that the U.S. military was "locked and loaded should North Korea act unwisely." Western media again then immediately focused attention on the unpredictability of the "paranoid guy" Kim Jong-un.

Arpaio Pardoned, RINOs melt down
[American Thinker] What on earth has happened to the moral and political sensibilities of Paul Ryan, John McCain, Jeff Flake, Jeb Bush, etc.? All of those RINOs who are attacking President Trump for pardoning Joe Arpaio are simpering, whining traitors to the party they allegedly represent. They should declare themselves Democrats and be done with the masquerade.

Perhaps they should remind themselves of all the criminals and thugs that President Obama pardoned, or that President Clinton pardoned. Trump made it clear at his rally in Phoenix that he was going to pardon the beleaguered sheriff. The audience there was thrilled, as were the millions of people watching on television, the citizens who want our immigration laws enforced. If there was ever anyone who deserved a pardon, along with Scooter Libby, it is Joe Arapio. This was a no-brainer! The man has enforced both federal and state laws for his entire career. Arpaio was found in contempt of court after a Clinton-appointed judge, Susan Bolton, ordered him to stop enforcing the law, detaining people he suspected (or knew) to be illegal immigrants. It was the judge who broke the law as so many of our activist judges have over the last decade. They do not want laws that protect our borders enforced. Such judges are traitors to the nation as well.

How have we come to the point at which the Republican leadership in Congress is so consistently on the wrong side of their stated principles? They have made common cause with the likes of the odious Sen. Chuck Schumer and the rest of the left. They despise Trump. That is clear to everyone. They intend to continue their sabotage of the president, even if it means they lose their majority, even if it means they contribute to the further takeover of the country by the totalitarian left. They are apparently just fine with the increasing restriction on free speech and the failure to identify Antifa and BLM as the terrorist groups they are. They seem to be fine with the criminal nonsense perpetrated by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The real threat to our republic is the Orwellian Antifa
Moved to Page 4...

[The Hill] Over the past few months, we have finally entered the fully realized historical revisionism promised in George Orwell’s "1984," in which the motto, "Who controls the present controls the past. Who controls the past controls the future," was central to shaping the book’s dystopian world. In the book, history was continually being rewritten and re-promulgated to meet the political necessities of the moment. There was no history to be remembered, let alone lessons to be learned.

For all the talk of Trumpian bluster or exaggeration, there is only one group that seeks to systematically and violently achieve its goals here in the United States on a broad scale: the so-called "anti-facist" movement, now commonly called "Antifa." And the goal? It’s not "anti-facist" or "anti-racist" as they attempt to portray themselves. It’s the systematic elimination of free speech, free assembly, and free thought via any means necessary, including violent protest, the media and Orwellian revisionism.

It is the imposition of a perverse type of intolerance based on Marxist and Chinese communist values that, it turns out, is far more welcome and pervasive within the Democrat Party of Sens. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) than neo-Nazis, the KKK and white supremacists are in the Republican Party. The gunman, James Hodgkinson, who shot Rep. Steve Scalise and four others in Alexandria was a habitual Antifa website visitor and advocate and Sanders volunteer. Even Democrat vice presidential candidate, Sen. Tim Kaine’s (D-Va.) son has been identified as an Antifa activist.

I came across it during my doctoral studies and after researching it, determined it to be the wellspring of our current problems.

The teaching of critical theory is a paradigm in post graduate studies. It is the birthplace of ethnic and gender studies and the breeding ground of black lives matters, antifa, and others. No coincidence as so many of the 60's radicals went into academia when the Viet Nam war ending and they didn't have an excuse to demonstrate.

[Free Beacon] Two law professors have been condemned by University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) students, alumni, and faculty as bigots engaging in "racist and white supremacist discourse," after they wrote a nostalgic op-ed praising America's 1950s "bourgeois culture."

UPenn Professor Amy Wax and University of San Diego's Lawrence Alexander were slammed by a group of 54 UPenn doctoral students and alumni as "promoting hate and bigotry under the guise of ’intellectual debate'" in their piece titled, "Paying the price for breakdown of the country's bourgeois culture," published earlier this month by the Philadelphia Inquirer.

In it, they argued the "[1950s] culture laid out the script we all were supposed to follow: Get married before you have children and strive to stay married for their sake. Get the education you need for gainful employment, work hard, and avoid idleness. Go the extra mile for your employer or client. Be a patriot, ready to serve the country. Be neighborly, civic-minded, and charitable. Avoid coarse language in public. Be respectful of authority. Eschew substance abuse and crime."

They conceded that there was "racial discrimination, limited sex roles, and pockets of anti-Semitism," but insisted that the modern "loss of bourgeois habits seriously impeded the progress of disadvantaged groups."

"All cultures are not equal," wrote Wax and Alexander. "Or at least they are not equal in preparing people to be productive in an advanced economy. The culture of the Plains Indians was designed for nomadic hunters, but is not suited to a First World, 21st-century environment. Nor are the single-parent, antisocial habits, prevalent among some working-class whites; the anti-’acting white' rap culture of inner-city blacks; the anti-assimilation ideas gaining ground among some Hispanic immigrants."

Welfare Reform in Kansas Caused Individuals to Reenter Labor Force Making Higher Incomes
Moved to Page 3

[Free Beacon] Welfare reform implemented in Kansas caused individuals to reenter the labor force while earning higher incomes, according to a report from the Foundation for Government Accountability.

Kansas Republican Gov. Sam Brownback took office in 2011 and began to implement welfare reform after the previous governor, Kathleen Sebelius, had relaxed requirements for those on welfare to work or search for employment.

From 2000 to 2011, the number of able-bodied adults on cash welfare was increasing by 42 percent in Kansas, while nationally the number on welfare had dropped by a third.

Brownback first began reforming welfare by strengthening sanctions for those who received cash assistance by implementing a three-month ban on those who refused to meet work requirements. If an individual failed to meet the requirement for a second or third time, the ban was prolonged for six months to a year.

Spanish police bust Nigerian sex slave ring operating in Benidorm
25 August
[The!ocal.es] Spanish and Finnish police, with the help of European law agencies, have arrested 24 members of a suspected prostitution ring preying on young Nigerian women, Europol said Thursday. Spanish police arrested the gang members in several Spanish cities, but its leader was taken into custody in Helsinki. The victims were recruited in Nigeria and trafficked to Spain via Libya and Italy.

The women were smuggled to Spain where they were told to seek international protection and asylum "so that they could work for the criminal organisation without problems in the event of being identified by the police," Europol said.

Austria strengthens border checks with Italy despite lower migrant arrivals
25 August
[TheLocal.at] Austria has diverted three of four lanes on the A13 motorway (Die Brennerautobahn) – 25 kilometres away from the Italian border – and has placed soldiers at a frontier railway station. Hundreds of cars and trucks coming from Italy have been stopped and searched on the A13 motorway, according to a report in Italian daily Repubblica. At least 15 soldiers are also on duty at Matrei am Brenner train station, checking passenger and cargo trains arriving from Italy, claims the daily.

It added that two women and six men, from West African nations Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast, were found alive hiding in the empty fuel tank of a train, normally reserved for liquified gas.

Austria recently announced it would send army back-up to help police its borders. The measures are in response to efforts by illegal migrants to enter Austria from Italy. Between 700 and 1,000 illegal immigrants are stopped in Tyrol every month, states a report in German newspaper zeit.de. Official Austrian government statistics show that the number of asylum applications more than halved from 88,000 in 2015 to 42,000 in 2016.

Hungary suspends diplomatic ties with the Netherlands over accepting colonists
25 August
[DW] Hungary has recalled its ambassador in The Hague. The move comes in response to remarks made by the Dutch envoy, in which he compared Budapest's efforts to "create enemies" to those of the "Islamic State" jihadist group. In an interview published Thursday in the Hungarian opposition magazine 168 Ora, Scheltema lambasted Hungary's unwillingness to take part in the EU's plan to relocate asylum seekers, expressed concerns over corruption and press freedom in the country, and decried the Orban government's campaign against billionaire financier and philanthropist George Soros. However, what most enraged Budapest was when he drew parallels between the Hungarian government and the so-called "Islamic State" jihadist group.

Swiss woman charged with being 'jihadi tourist'
25 August
[TheLocal.ch] An alleged ‘jihadi tourist’ who tried to travel to Syria to join Islamic State is charged with supporting terror groups and will be tried in Switzerland’s federal criminal court, the public prosecutor has said. In a statement, the Swiss attorney general’s office said it had filed an indictment against the 30-year-old Zurich woman, a Swiss national, for offences under the federal law that bans terror groups including Isis.

In December 2015, the woman, with her four-year-old child, attempted to travel to Syria via Greece and Turkey in order to join Isis, the authorities allege. The woman was prevented from continuing her journey by the Greek authorities and then arrested at Zurich airport on her return to Switzerland in January 2016.

How did terror cell behind Spain attacks avoid detention?
24 August
[TheLocal.es] The jihadist cell behind last week's twin attacks in Spain was built around a "guru", like a cult, went completely offline to avoid detection by anti-terrorist police, and recruited siblings, experts said. Among the dozen suspects are four sets of brothers.

Yves Trotignon, a former member of La Belle France's anti-terrorist authorities, noted that the set-up featuring relatives was also seen among the perpetrators of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in New York or the March 11, 2004 train bombing in Madrid.

Norwegian asylum centres capacity to be reduced by further 1,600
24 August
[TheLocal.no] Norway’s Directorate of Immigration (Utlendingsdirektorat, UDI) has said that it will close 17 asylum centres across the country. The closures encompass 1,610 places at asylum centres, of which 320 are earmarked for unaccompanied minors arriving in the country, according to the report.

“The basis for this is that UDI has far too much available capacity. This is a result of 31,000 asylum seekers coming [to Norway] in 2015, compared to just 3,460 last year. That is a reduction of over 27,000 asylum seekers,” UDI’s regional director Stig Arne Thune told NRK. “If arrivals in Norway remain low, I wouldn’t rule out further reductions."

Congress Quietly Passed A Bill Allowing Warrantless Searches Of Homes - Only 1% Opposed It
[Zerohedge] By Rachel Blevins of The Free Thought Project

A bill that will allow homes to be searched without a warrant was passed with overwhelming support by the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Trump‐and it happened with no media coverage and very little fanfare.

On the surface, House Joint Resolution 76 looks harmless. The title of the bill claims that its purpose is "Granting the consent and approval of Congress for the Commonwealth of Virginia, the State of Maryland, and the District of Columbia to enter into a compact relating to the establishment of the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission."

"Whereas the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, an interstate compact agency of the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the State of Maryland, provides transportation services to millions of people each year, the safety of whom is paramount; Whereas an effective and safe Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority system is essential to the commerce and prosperity of the National Capital region; Whereas the Tri-State Oversight Committee, created by a memorandum of understanding amongst these 3 jurisdictions, has provided safety oversight of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority."

The proposal for a safety commission to act as a wing of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority may sound logical, when its power includes thing such as the ability to "Adopt, revise, and distribute a written State Safety Oversight Program" and to "Review, approve, oversee, and enforce the adoption and implementation of WMATA's Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan."

However, there is one major red flag buried within the text of the bill that stems from the list of "powers" given to the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission, and it violates one of the basic tenets of the U.S. Constitution.

"In performing its duties, the Commission, through its Board or designated employees or agents, may:Enter upon the WMATA Rail System and, upon reasonable notice and a finding by the chief executive officer that a need exists, upon any lands, waters, and premises adjacent to the WMATA Rail System, including, without limitation, property owned or occupied by the federal government, for the purpose of making inspections, investigations, examinations, and testing as the Commission may deem necessary to carry out the purposes of this MSC Compact, and such entry shall not be deemed a trespass"

The text gives the Commission the authority to enter property near the Metro Rail System "without limitation" and without a warrant, for the purpose of "making inspections, investigations, examinations, and testing."

This clearly goes against the Fourth Amendment, which states that Americans' rights "to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause."

When the bill was brought to a vote in the House of Representatives, there were only five Congressmen who voted against it: Representatives Justin Amash, a Republican from Michigan; Walter Jones, a Republican from North Carolina; Thomas Massie, a Republican from Kentucky; Alex Mooney, a Republican from West Virginia; and Mark Sanford, a Republican from South Carolina.

Amash called out the hypocrisy surrounding the fact that even though this legislation is in clear violation of the Constitution, it was passed by Congress with overwhelming support. "Only 5 of us voted against bill allowing govt to enter/search private property in parts of VA, MD & DC w/o warrant," He wrote on Twitter.

Only 5 of us voted against bill allowing govt to enter/search private property in parts of VA, MD & DC w/o warrant. https://t.co/SVhTWqbPaB

‐ Justin Amash (@justinamash) July 18, 2017

This is not the first time Congress has quietly passed a bill that will take away some of the most basic rights from law-abiding citizens in the U.S., and it won't be the last. One of the most important things to remember about this legislation is that it was ignored by the media, and while it may only affect the Washington D.C. metro area now, it could be laying the blueprint for future legislation across the country.

Kashmiri militants kill three Indian officers
[DAWN] Militants in India-held Kashmire killed one officer and maimed three paramilitary troops in an attack on a police facility early on Saturday, police said. Indian forces returned the attack.

The gunnies detonated grenades and fired automatic assault rifles to gain entry to the district police headquarters in southern Pulwama district, which also houses families of some officers, director general of police S.P Vaid said.

One police officer was killed in the initial assault and three paramilitary troops were maimed who were evacuated to a nearby hospital, he said.

"Two more CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) soldiers died" in pursuit of the attackers, Vaid told AFP.

"We are evacuating the families from there," he said.

It was not clear how many attackers were inside the compound.

Duterte fires sniper rifle at Marawi militants

The fight has been raging since May when Islamic State-inspired Maute militants captured parts of the conflict-hit city. Around 700 people, including many rebels, have so far died in the three-month battle.

Duterte reportedly fired the weapon as he met soldiers during his third Marawi visit. It is not known if his shots hit any Maute gunmen.

The Philippine government released an image of him holding a sniper rifle, along with the caption, "President Rodrigo Duterte fires a shot towards enemy lines during his third visit to the troops of the joint special operations task force trident in war-torn Marawi City."

During his trip, he told soldiers, "I will be happy to die for my country. I need to be with you to show my solidarity. We will not stop until the last terrorist is neutralized."

His visit to the city comes after troops managed to retake the city's mosque, which was believed to be a militant hideout.

2 LNA soldiers die in fighting near Kufra
Tunis, 26 August 2017:

Two members a Libyan National Army unit were reported killed this morning in clashes with gunmen south of Kufra near the border with Chad. According to the Sibal Al-Salam battalion, the clashes were with a Chadian opposition group. It added that it had managed to kill seven members of the group and destroy three of its vehicles.

The battalion is from Kufra and is said to consist mainly of members of the Zwai tribe who are Salafists.

A number of Chadian opposition groups are known to be operating on the Libyan side of the border. Last weekend one of them launched an attack on Chadian forces on the other side, killing a number and triggering Chad’s decision to break diplomatic relations with Qatar. It accused it of using Libya as a base to destablise the country.

However, according to a source in Kufra, the Chadians were not opponents of the country’s president Idriss Déby but mercenaries some of whom had in fact previously been fighting alongside the LNA. According to the source, identity cards provided by the LNA were found on the bodies of two of the dead.

This has not been confirmed.

Walking a tightrope
[DAWN] WALKING a tightrope is not for the fainthearted: sooner or later, a gust of wind can threaten your balance.

Ever since the Americans attacked and occupied Afghanistan in 2001, Pakistain has teetered on the edge of Washington’s tolerance for what it sees as our double-faced policy of running with the hares and hunting with the hounds. Time and again, policymakers in Islamabad and GHQ have been exhorted publicly and privately to stop supporting and sheltering the Afghan Taliban

Syrian forces declare truce over with artillery attacks in Homs
Homs (Syria News) The Syrian army troops attacked, on Saturday, several cities in different provinces in Syria, in a new violation for the recent de-escalation agreement.

Qasioun News reported that the Syrian regime aircraft have carried out four air strikes on the cities of Tal Zahab and Kafr Laha, north of Homs, while artillery troops shelled the cities, causing only material damage.

Meanwhile in Damascus, Jober neighborhood was shelled using four ground-to-ground missiles, despite Eastern Ghouta agreement to halt all battles and operations in the area.

The Syrian army artillery also shelled the residential neighborhoods in Ayn Tarma City, in the countryside of Damascus; however, no damage was reported.

It is noteworthy that Syrian government forces and allied militia are continue violating the de-escalation agreement in Homs and Eastern Ghouta, despite the Russian guarantee to stop all military operations in both areas.

Free Speech Protest in San Francisco Cancelled Due to Threat of Leftist Violence
[PJMEDIA] A free speech protest planned for today by the group Patriot Prayer was cancelled by the organizer, Joey Gibson.

An anti-Communist protest planned for tomorrow in Berkeley has also been scrubbed.

The reason for the cancellation of both rallies is the threat of radical leftist violence. And in both cases, the police could not be trusted to ensure the safety of rally participants.

Described as a "far right protest" in the Los Angeles Times, the free speech demonstration came under withering attack from politicians like Nancy San Fran Nan Pelosi

Arab-Israeli charged in knife attack on Polish policeman
[IsraelTimes] Polish prosecutors pressed charges Friday against an Israeli citizen alleged to have slightly hurt a police officer in Warsaw with a knife.

Prosecutors identified the suspect as Ibrahim H., withholding his last name as required under Polish law.
Tourist? Colonist? The entire situation is very odd, indeed.
They said he has been charged with assaulting a police officer and exposing an officer to the threat of loss of life or serious harm.

Warsaw police front man Robert Szumiata said the man attacked the agent with a knife Thursday, wounding him in the face.

Police had been called by residents anxious over the man’s strange behavior hours before a nearby concert by US band Allah-Las. A performance by the group the previous day in the Netherlands was cancelled due to a terror threat.

Al-Qaeda emerging from Kashmir with its eyes on India
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Last week marked India’s 70th independence and "division" anniversary. India celebrated amid tensions on the borders between it and China. India protested on Bhutan’s behalf but China defied it and Bhutan kept silent. India’s economic boom did not hide the tensions in Kashmire as the situation there is dangerous now that people’s struggle shifted from calling for freedom to calling for "an Islamic caliphate." This has worsened divisions between holy warrior Kashmiri groups and violence may escalate in the future between "the brothers in terrorism."

It seems the situation there may lead to the return of al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent which is looking forward to have a foothold in Kashmire and in India later as there are close interests between al-Qaeda and Kashmiri local groups that support an Islamic caliphate in Kashmire.

In June, al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent issued a "code of conduct" for its followers and called on other jihadist groups to vow loyalty to the Islamic State

COAS urges trust-based Pak-Afghan response to terrorism
[DAWN] Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa said on Friday that Death Eaters were common enemies of Pakistain and Afghanistan and a trust-based coordinated response was needed against them rather than a blame game.

He said that Pakistain had undertaken operations against Death Eaters of all hue and colour and there were no safe havens inside Pakistain being used against Afghanistan.

Talking to a nine-member Afghan media delegation at the General Headquarters, the army chief said that Afghanistan was Pakistain’s brotherly neighbour. He was of the view that media could play a vital role in mitigating the negativity created by inimical forces, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.

Emphasising the need for an effective border management along the border, Gen Bajwa said that Pakistain had taken measures on its side of the border, including fencing and establishment of border forts and posts.

Iraqi soldier wounded in bombing attack in Rutba

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) A senior officer was killed and four soldiers were wounded in two separate blasts in Anbar on Friday, security sources were quoted saying.

An official security source told Shafa News that a senior border guard officer was killed when a bomb blast ripped through his convoy at the city of Rutba, near Iraq’s borders with Jordan. The officer was heading to his service unit, according to the source.

Meanwhile, a local source told Alsumaria News that an explosive device exploded in Shaqoufa, Hit, 70 kilometers west of Ramadi, wounding four police members.

Islamic State militants are still holding areas in western Anbar since 2014, when they occupied a third of Iraq to proclaim their self-styled “caliphate”. So far, there has not been a wide-scale campaign to retake those regions, but occasional offensives by government forces and allied Popular Mobilization Forces have managed to take over several surrounding villages.

Anbar’s borders with Syria had seen occasional encounters between security forces and Islamic State militants.

What role do women play in Bahrain terror groups?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] In the footsteps of al-Qaeda, ISIS and other radical Islamic groups, it was recently uncovered that many murderous Moslem Khomeinist cells were exploiting women in Bahrain.

The Bahraini Interior Ministry announced that it had uncovered a 10-member terrorist cell, including a woman suspected of involvement in terrorist acts.

The cell is headed by Hussein Ali Ahmed Dawood, 31, who is wanted and is leader of the terrorist organization Saraya al-Ashtar, and a runaway to Iran.

Dawood has been sentenced to life imprisonment in three terrorist cases and for his involvement in the formation of terrorist cells.

Among the detainees for being a member of the cell is Zainab Makki Abbas, 34, who helped the group use her house as a hideout containing explosives and a Kalashnikov weapon belonging to her brother, Hassan Makki Abbas.

According to the Bahraini interior ministry, Zainab later asked her husband, Amin Habib, who was also enjugged
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
later, to take the bags from the house and hand them over to Hussein Mohammed Hussein for concealment.

Zainab was not the first woman to be listed in the Khomeini terrorist cells in Bahrain. In March 2017, Bahraini security services arrested a "terrorist cell linked to Iran, consisting of 20 people, including four women".

The four women were Amira Mohammed Abdul Jalil, 35, Faten Abdul Hussein Ali Nasser, 41, Hamida Juma Abdullah, 40, and Mona Habib Saleh, 46, involved in prisoner smuggling operation, and in providing cover to fleeing murderous Moslems.

Mai Abatcha Monguno, commander of the Guzamala local council's self-defense forces, says 12 other people were killed in attacks on villages there.

Local defense forces are asking for more government support to fight Boko Haram's insurgency, which has killed more than 20,000 people and displaced millions in the past eight years. Deadly attacks also have been carried out in neighboring countries.

The Causes Of The War Between The States
[CaptainsJournal] For those who say the Civil (sic) War was “all about slavery”, I like to point out that slaves in the South were “identified as free” by the Emancipation Proclamation — issued two years after a war that was “all about slavery” started — but weren’t actually free because there were no blue-clad troops to spring them. Slaves in DC were freed by ordinance in 1864. Slaves elsewhere had to wait until the 13th amendment in December 1865, 8 months after a war that was all about slavery ended. It appears the DC politicians didn’t get the memo about the war being all about slavery, and Lincoln, himself, didn’t realize it for two whole years.

The Emancipation Proclamation, America’s first major PR effort, was (much more likely) a ploy to “make the war about slavery” which would operate to bring lots of Northern abolitionists down to the recruiting stations. This, in turn, would beef up the ranks of the Union army which was then getting its clock cleaned.

Had Lincoln been keen to erase slavery, he could have done it far cheaper than ruining the South’s economy and threatening the North’s — at a cost of 620,000 dead — had he done it the way the Brits had 30 years prior; he certainly had to know about that. The Brits outlawed slavery, then bought out all the slaveholders for cash. It was a good deal for anyone who could see the onrushing Industrial Revolution, an event which would, in short order, make human chattel slavery an economic dead-end.

But Lincoln was not keen to empower the South with such a scheme. Lincoln wanted to OWN the South. The tariffs had done that. If the South rendered itself immune to the tariffs, the Northern economy would crash. This could not be allowed to happen. It is related that one reporter asked Lincoln “Why not just let them depart?” and Lincoln’s answer was “Then who would pay for the government?” That was Lincoln’s (and the North’s) motive.

Foreign newspapers of the day, Corriere della Sera, Le Monde, The Times of London, and others, universally saw the conflict as economic and not connected to slavery. As disinterested spectators, their views are telling.

#1  Oh come-on, slave based economy can't coexist with industrial economy - therefore the war. As to what England did - they could enforce it. Not the situation in USA.

#2  Indeed. As the "industrial revolution" gathered steam (so to speak), it ultimately would have made human labor (slavery, indentured servants, etc.) more expensive, and slavery probably would have died a natural death.

Except for a deadly slave revolt in Haiti (if memory serves me right), there were no "wars to free the slaves" in any of the many countries which engaged in slavery.

Lincoln was a piece of trash and a war criminal and would have hung in Nuremberg had he been on the losing side (along side Sherman).

#4  On August 25, 2017 at 1:06 pm, Herschel Smith said: It’s easy to onfuse the various manifestations of rejection of centralized control that we may look at as important because of the theatric value of those examples, with what’s really important and what I tried to focus on, i.e., the cultural, theological and philosophical underpinnings of the split.

Agree with Smith or not, ever notice how the conflict postmortems are usually written by the victor with lists of 'righteous causes' provided as the origins of the conflict ?

#5  Personally, I believe that the South operated on the belief of having a monopoly on military prowess. The way things were supposed to go is that - after a few humiliating defeats - Lincoln is impeached, and a new Union - one where South remains dominant for ever - is negotiated. Kinda like the situation today with ideological superiority taking the place of military prowess.

#8  2 cents worth. Most wars are about bankers and banking if you dig deep enough. Slavery had been on its way out when the Civil War began. Abolitionists had been pushing for some time for the abolishment of slavery. Some slave owners actually treated their slaves quite well while others did not.

I find it interesting and curious that some free blacks were both slave owners and slave traders. For them slavery must have been, to an extent, about making a buck and less about ideology.

Slavery is prevalent in the world today but it seems as if there is far more concern for the slavery some 150 years ago than there is today.

#10  How and why did the civil war start?
The background is as follows:
The large slaveholders, many the descendants of the supporters of King Charles in the English civil war back in the 1600s, were the elite in the south who held political power.
Slaves were extremely valuable, with sales prices on the order of a thousand dollars each which corresponds to hundreds of thousand dollars each in today's money. One of the major sources of income on plantations was raising slaves, and selling or renting them out.
However, they were so successful at this, by the 1850s they started worrying about there being an oversupply of slaves. This would lower their value. In consequence they made an strong effort to extend slavery to new territories, such as Kansas. They were also concerned that immigrants tended to settle in the north, in part because they did not want to have to compete with slave labor in the South. The southern economic system was like a closed union shop, in which the union members were slaves, and that was not so appealing to immigrants who wanted to succeed by their own efforts in an open society. As a result the northern and western populations grew much more rapidly than the southern population did.
The Democratic party was controlled by the southern elite leadership and it controlled the national government until March of 1861.

The southern leaders looked to the future and saw doom for their way of life, with too many slaves and too small a population to maintain control of the national government. They instigated Secession, which most of their citizens opposed, but most were won over by later events. By the end of the pro-south Buchanan adminstration most southern states had seceded from the union. The north was divided between democrats who had been allies of the southern democrats, and the new republican party. There was confusion and no consensus in the north about what to do about secession.
However, the southern leaders decided to attack the government occupied fort sumpter in Charleston harbor SC. This action enraged most northerners, who flocked to the colors to oppose this aggression.
This in turn caused states like Virginia, which had not even voted for the Southern Democrats in 1860 to join the Confederacy.
Having controlled the national government until March 1861 the Southerners were much better prepared for war than the northerners were. They won some battles, particularly in the East, but, in the Fall of 1862 were defeated in an attempt to invade the north at the battle of Antietam, the bloodiest single days battle of the war. After that battle, General MacClellan, who won it, suggested to Lincoln that the victory gave L the opportunity to make a public statement, about war aims.
Lincoln , perhaps in response, issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Before then, while some generals had attempted to free slaves, official union policy was to do nothing to interfere with slavery, (in part to discourage secession by Missouri and Kentucky.)
Thus the war was indirectly about slavery. But the average supporter of secession in the south was not a slave owner, and many were not even admirers of slavery. Their support came from loyalty to their states. There were also people throughout the south who supported the union, particularly in east tennessee west virginia and among the german immigrants to texas.
Thus while the future of slavery was probably the major motivation for secession, the war was about succession and physical attacks on US government facilitiesm and conflicting loyalties to states and to the union.

Syrian army, allies advance against ISIS in central Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Syrian army and allied forces have captured one of the last major ISIS enclaves in the central Syrian desert, a monitor and a Hezbollah military media unit said on Saturday.

The pocket of territory totals around 2,000 square km (770 square miles), said the media unit run by Hezbollah, which fights alongside Syrian government forces in the war.

Earlier this week, the army and its allies encircled the ISIS bully boyz after advancing southward to join up with their forces near al-Sukhna town in Homs province. The enclave extends from the west of al-Sukhna into nearby Hama province.

The Syrian army -- supported by Russian air power and Iran-backed militias -- secured al-Sukhna this month. It was the last major town in Homs province that ISIS held.

The Syrian Observatory for Human rights, a Britannia-based war monitor, said the army has seized dozens of hills and positions in that region in central Syria.

Now, the only significant ISIS presence remaining in Homs was another nearby enclave on the provincial border with Hama, also under siege by the army and its allies, the monitoring group said.

Over the past year, ISIS has lost ground to various separate enemies including Syrian government forces with their allies, and US-backed militias.

ISIS bully boyz still control most of Deir al-Zor province, which borders Iraq.

More tribes join Syrian rebels
[ARA News] A group of Arab rebel fighters from the Baggara and Shaitat tribes in rural Deir ez-Zor have left the Ahmad Jarba’s Syrian Elite Forces and joined the Deir ez-Zor military council, according to military sources.

The Deir ez-Zor Military Council has been established recently by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to combat ISIS in eastern Syria.

The seven battalions of the two tribes said in a statement on Friday they initially joined the opposition-led Elite Forces to participate in battles to free cities and villages from ISIS.

“Unfortunately, many problems accompanied our work and many vague questions surfaced, such as the absence of a project, or a clear work program of these forces and lack of seriousness in the revolutionary work,” the groups said in a joint statement.

“We, the seven battalions of Baggara and Shaitat tribes, split from the Elite Forces and joined the Deir ez-Zor military council and consider the Syrian Democratic Forces [SDF] as our reference and military leadership and we are working under its banner to liberate our city from the Daesh [ISIS] terrorist abomination,” the groups said.

“We thank also the leadership of the Syrian Democratic Forces for receiving us and giving us the opportunity to join their ranks to fight terrorism. We pledge to our martyrs and people, that we will spare no efforts to defend them,” the battalions said.

Nicholas A. Heras, a Fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), working in the Middle East Security Program, told ARA News: “SDF is now the vehicle, cutting down on groups outside of it. This is a big win for the SDF, and the Coalition. It makes the Deir al-Zoir Military Council more capable of being the foundation of a hold force if the Coalition decides to engage in a campaign to seize Deir al-Zor.”

Australia’s PM says changing statues is ‘Stalinist’
[DAWN] Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said on Friday that calls to replace or modify statues of English colonialists, including explorer Captain James Cook, were tantamount to a "Stalinist" rewrite of history.
Hear, hear!
Pressure has grown in the wake of the furore over Confederate monuments in the United States to reconsider statues in Australia that some deem offensive to the country’s indigenous people.

Sydney, Australia’s largest city, is deciding whether to alter a monument erected in Hyde Park, 1879, to commemorate Cook, who charted Australia’s east coast for the first time.

At issue is the engraving on the base of the statue, which says "Discovered this territory, 1770". Aboriginal people had lived on the continent for an estimated 60,000 years before Cook dropped anchor in Botany Bay. Sydney City Council has referred the issue, along with a second statue of Governor Lachlan Macquarie, the administrator who turned the British penal colony into a free settlement, to an indigenous advisory board.

One of the soldiers was "slightly" maimed in the attack which Mayor Philippe Close said was perpetrated by a "lone individual."

Overnight, police raided the suspect's home in Bruges, northwest Belgium, with federal prosecutors opening an investigation into "attempted terrorist murder," a statement said.

The assailant was a Belgian national of Somali origin who was born in 1987, authorities confirmed. He arrived in the country in 2004 and was granted Belgian nationality in 2015.

Although not known for any terror-related activities, he had an assault and battery charge on his record from February, the statement said.

With much of Europe on edge over the attacks, many of them 'low-tech' assaults using knives or vehicles as weapons, thousands of people were expected to take to the streets of Barcelona on Saturday evening in a defiant march under the slogan "No tinc por" -- Catalan for "not afraid."

Woman arrested for son’s murder
[DAWN] CHAKWAL: A woman was placed in durance vile
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
on Thursday for being an accomplice in the murder of her 12-year-old son.

The body of Ehtesham Siddique, a resident of Mehro Village, was found on Aug 5 on the bank of a dam. He had gone missing on July 30.

According to Sub-inspector Ali Abbas, the in-charge of the Homicide Investigation Unit, Ehtesham had seen his mother with a 25-year-old resident of the same village on July 30 and that the woman had asked the accused to kill her son due to fear that he will tell the family about their relationship.

SI Abbas said the accused took the boy to a nearby jungle, strangled him and dumped his body in a drain. He later also participated in the hunt for the boy.

In August, the accused saw that wild animals had dug out Ehtesham’s body. He tried to dispose of it again by throwing it in the nearby dam but was seen by a local shepherd which led to his arrest.

The victim’s mother was arrested when during preliminary investigations conducted by SI Abbas, the arrested man said he was in a relationship with the woman. The woman has since confessed to the crime.

Professor, peon wounded as student groups trade fire on SU’s Larkana campus
[DAWN] LARKANA: The English department chairman and a peon of the Sindh University, Larkana campus, were maimed when stray bullets hit them during a clash between activists of two rival student organizations on Friday.

Neither the organizations involved nor the university administration or police appeared ready to share the reason behind the sudden flare-up leading to the armed clash.

The student wings of the Pakistain Peoples Party-Shaheed Bhutto (PPP-SB) and Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz were continuing their activities on the campus as usual when some petty matters led to heated arguments between their activists. The situation grew tense when some of the rival activists resorted to firing into the air. However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
Professor Aamir Magsi, who heads the English department, and a peon, Abdul Karim Leghari, were hit by stray bullets, according to Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Noor Mohammed Jamali.

Heavy contingents of the Waleed police and Sindh Rangers rushed to the spot to contain the situation.

Speaking to Dawn Prof Jamali said that Prof Magsi, who had sustained bullet wounds in the chest, and Mr Leghari were rushed to the Chandka Medical College Hospital, where they were being provided treatment.

Later, it was gathered that the law-enforcers picked up three students -- Naeemullah Qazi, Tariq Korai and Sadam Jatoi -- from the campus and took them to the Waleed cop shoppe for interrogation. Sources said that the pistol allegedly used during the clash was recovered from Tariq Korai.

Rohingya militants accused of attacking Myanmar troops; 89 killed from both sides
[DAWN] At least 89 people, including a dozen security personnel, were killed as Rohingya murderous Moslems allegedly besieged border posts in northern Rakhine State, triggering a fresh exodus of refugees towards Bangladesh.

The state is bisected by religious hatred focused on the stateless Rohingya Moslem minority, who are reviled and perceived as illegal immigrants colonists in Buddhist-majority Myanmar.

The office of de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi claimed that 12 security officials had been killed alongside 77 murderous Moslems -- the highest declared single day toll since fighting broke out last year.

Friday’s fighting went kaboom! around Rathedaung township which has seen a heavy build-up of Myanmar troops in recent weeks, with reports filtering out of killings by shadowy groups, army-blockaded villages and abuses.

Some 20 police posts came under attack in the early hours of Friday by an estimated 150 murderous Moslems, some carrying guns and using homemade explosives, Myanmar’s military claimed.

"The military and police members are fighting back together against murderous Moslem Bengali terrorists," Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing said in a statement on Facebook, using the state’s description for Rohingya murderous Moslems.

One resident in Maungdaw, the main town in northern Rakhine, said gunfire could be heard throughout the night. "We are still hearing gunshots now, we dare not to go out from our house," the resident said by phone, asking not to be named.

30 detained at cross-border tunnel in Otay Mesa
Democrat officals scattered, but left filled-in Voter Registration cards on the ground.
[SanDiegoUnionTribune] Border Patrol agents found a cross-border tunnel in Otay Mesa early Saturday after dozens of people emerged from it, federal authorities said.

Agents caught seven Mexicans and 23 Chinese nationals who apparently had just been smuggled into the United States through the tunnel, Customs and Border Protection spokesman Ralph DeSio said.

The agents were in the area of the border and Britannia Boulevard about 1:30 a.m. when they saw a large number of people on the street. The people started running when agents approached them, Border Patrol Agent Eduardo Olmos said.

Some of the people tried to get back to the tunnel, leading agents to discover its existence, Olmos said. He did not know if some people succeeded in getting back to Mexico.

-Land of the Free
Killing Chickens
[TheZMan] “When you strike at a king, you must kill him” is a famous expression by Ralph Waldo Emerson. We’re all familiar with it and its meaning. When you challenge authority, you better win, as authority cannot tolerate challenges. It’s why the people in charge are so ruthless in dealing with challenges to their power. They instinctively know that to do otherwise means being displaced. In all probability, they got to where they are by subverting or knocking off their predecessor.

That’s what we see going on with the Trump administration. The rules of the game, as designed by the political class, were supposed to prevent a guy like Trump from winning the Presidency. Instead, both parties would hire approved actors to put on a show, pretending to be bitter rivals. The voters would re-enact these mock battles among themselves, getting into arguments on-line and with friends. Then one candidate would “win”, pick a staff from the political class, and the party would keep going.

Trump was supposed to have his vanity run, then bow out in the primary, before he became too much of a distraction. The political class was so sure this would be the case, they never bothered to address Trump until it was too late. They thought they had it gamed out in the general election, but then those idiot voters did the wrong thing and voted for the wrong candidate. This challenge cannot stand, which is why they have been going berserk. The threat must be addressed, by any means necessary.

Algeria’s Ahmadis, an ‘Israeli plot,’ forced to worship behind closed doors
[IsraelTimes] Pacifist Moslem sect, which operates freely in Israel, is accused by Algerian government minister of working with Israel to destabilize country
The Baha'i, another persecuted heretical Moslim sect, also worship freely in Israel, and in fact their world headquarters is there. They're supposed to make pilgrimage there at least once in their lifetime, like a haj without the stoning and stampedes.
Accused of heresy by Islamist holy warriors and targeted by the authorities, members of Algeria’s tiny Ahmadi community say they have been forced to go underground to worship.

Abderahmane, a 42-year-old trader from Kabylie in northern Algeria, joined the reformist Islamic movement after years as an ultra-conservative Salafist.

UN gives $2.5 million to Gaza for fuel and water crisis
Moved to Page 2...
Thanks!
Tunnels, armaments, and select bank accounts will be the only beneficiaries, but the donors get to feel good, so that's ok.
[Jpost] The United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
on Thursday gave Gazoo $2.5 million in humanitarian aid to help with their water and fuel crisis.

The funds come as Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
is threatening to gradually cut funding to Gazoo if Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, fails to allow Fatah to return to the Strip.

Some 2 million Paleostinians living in Gazoo have been hostage for the last four months to the power play between Fatah and Hamas, as Abbas seek to regain control of the Strip 10 years after Hamas ousted his party in a bloody coup.

In July the UN issued an urgent appeal for $25 million, but to date only 30% of that sum has bene funded.

In July the UN issued an urgent appeal for $25 million, but to date only 30% of that sum has bene funded.
There is a "serious decline in living conditions in Gazoo continues" said UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid and Development Activities, Robert Piper. "The humanitarian plight and the human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
of Gazoo’s civilian population - over half of them children ‐ appear to have disappeared from view" he added.

Some of the UN funds will pay for fuel for the generators that are helping run 190 health, water and sanitation installations. It will also provide for medical equipment and supplies, solar panels, cash assistance and agriculture supplies.

The Paleostinians in Gazoo have suffered in particular from an electricity crisis in which they are surviving on only about four hours of power a day. Israel has reduced its supply of electricity to Gazoo at the request of the Paleostinian Authority, who said it only planned to pay a small portion of the bill.

The PA also imposed an onerous tax on the diesel fuel needed to run Gazoo only power plant, as a result it has only been operational for intermittent periods.

"The Gazoo strip is into its fourth month of a serious energy crisis. Power supply to households and services has barely covered 25% of needs over the last 6 weeks. Hospitals and other facilities are operating almost 24/7 on generators that are not designed for continuous use in this way. The last bulk shipment of essential drugs from the West Bank was in March 2017; an estimated 40% of essential drugs are at zero stock. There is a large backlog of patients requiring urgent medical referral to hospitals outside the Strip," the UN said in a statement it issued on the funding.

The $2.5 million came Euoprean countries who had donated to the Humanitarian Fund run by the Office for Humanitarian Affairs in the Paleostinian territories. Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Italia, Malta, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
were among the donor countries.

On Tuesday Miroslav Jenca, the UN’s Assistant Secretary General spoke of the Gazoo Crisis before the UN Security Council in New York.

"I call on Paleostinian leaders to address the destructive consequences of the divisions. I encourage them to reach agreement that would allow the legitimate Paleostinian authorities to take up their responsibilities in Gazoo, as a step towards the formation of a united, democratically elected Paleostinian government on the basis of the PLO principles," Jenca asid.

Hamas must also ensure that calm is maintained by stopping myrmidon buildup against Israel and by doing its utmost to sustain security at the border with Egypt. Israel should step-up measures to lift the closures and facilitate development in Gazoo as overall calm persists in the Strip, in line with Security Council resolution 1860," Jencal said.

She then urged donor countries to contribute to the Gazoo appeal.

#1  "gave Gazoo $2.5 million in humanitarian aid to help with their water and fuel crisis"

And that aid will be used for storage of said items in new 'Warehousing Tunnels' built with the funds.

Some are so large that they'll extend under the border, but no worry.

Oh, and new ammunition and explosives to 'protect' the water and fuel.

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edition

3 Kids die in bombing attack in Fallujah

Fallujah (IraqiNews.com) Five children were killed and wounded when a leftover landmine exploded east of Fallujah, a paramilitary commander said on Friday.

Gomaa al-Jumaili, a senior commander at the Popular Mobilization Forces in al-Karma region told Baghdad Today that an explosive device from Islamic State remnant landmines exploded, killing three children and wounding two others.

Iraqi government forces had recaptured Karma from IS militants in May 2016

Several incidents of remnant explosives killing civilians at areas retaken from IS have been reported over the past months. Millions of landmines from Iraq’s past wars, including the three-year-war against the Islamic State militants, still await removal.

Islamic State militants are still holding areas in western Anbar near the borders with Syria, and Iraqi government and paramilitary forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition warplanes, have regularly bombarded or cleared surrounding areas, leaving hundreds of militants dead. Anbar is one of the next targets marked by Iraqi government forces which are currently battling IS out of Tal Afar, Islamic State’s last haven in Nineveh province.

Iraqi warplanes reportedly dropped thousands of messages on IS havens west of Anbar in July telling citizens that military invasions of those areas were imminent, and advising them to stay away from militants’ gatherings.

ISIS Press Gangs busy in Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State carried out random arrests in western Anbar seeking compulsory recruitment, a security source from the province said.

“IS launched campaigns of random arrests in Qaim at checkpoints or even against whoever doesn’t hold an ID card,” the source told Alghad Press on Saturday.

“These campaigns seek compulsory recruitment ordered by the militant group on people at the western regions,” the source added.

Earlier this month, three brothers under the age of 15 years old were reportedly killed by the group in Qaim over refusing to join the group as well as the compulsory recruitment.

Anbar’s western towns of Anah, Qaim and Rawa are still held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them.

In late July, a military source was quoted saying that Lt.Gen Abdul-Amir Yarallah, commander of the Nineveh Operations, ordered to besiege IS havens in western Anbar preparing to invade them.

Fighter jets from the Iraqi army and the international coalition regularly pound IS locations in the province.

ISIS classifies female sex slaves

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Subjecting women from the Iraqi Yazidi minority to sexual slavery, Islamic State militants would separate attractive women from less attractive ones, a survivor has said in an interview.

Dubai-based Al Arabiya network interviewed Bivrin (an approximate spelling of the name mentioned in the Arabic report) whose family was taken by IS militants to Mosul from their home village of Kojo. She gave just another firsthand account of forced marriages and sexual slavery the religious minority had endured since the emergence of the extremist group in 2014.

When she and her elder fell into IS captivity, Bivrin was sent to a house in Mosul used as a females’ detention facility for being “not beautiful” as she heard her captors saying, while her more attractive sister was sent to Raqqa, the group’s base in Syria.

At one day, a fellow hostage was beaten, humiliated by the militants to force her to take a bath and put on skimpy clothes, which she resisted and committed suicide by cutting her own veins.

“We never saw her body, the militants had tane her away and never knew where she ended up to,” Bivrin said in the video of the interview.

“I once saw a (IS) member take four sisters (to be his pleasure subjects),” Bivrin told the interviewer.

The United Nations has recently urged Iraq to ensure protection for victims of Islamic State sexual slavery.

“Women and girls under the control of ISIL, in particular women from the Yezidi and other minority communities, have been especially vulnerable to abuses of human rights and violation of international humanitarian law,” the report by the UN Assistance Mission to Iraq (UNAMI) and the UN Human Rights Office said last week. It said victims had been subjected to rape and sexual assault, forced displacement, abduction, deprivation of liberty, slavery, forced religious conversion, and cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment.

A statistic released by the Kurdistan Region Government’s Endowments and Religious Affairs Ministry said Islamic State’s massacres of Yazidis forced nearly 360.000 of the religious minority to flee their areas, with 90.000 of those heading abroad.

IS kidnapped 6417 Yazidis since 2014, the report added. Those include 1102 women and 1655 children, the statistics showed.

The calamity rendered 2645 kids parentless, including 220 whose parents are still under IS captivity, the ministry revealed.

Authorities ran into 43 mass graves of Yazidi victims slaughtered by IS, according to the statistic.

ISIS enforces use of its own scrip in Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants issued directives on Friday in Anbar to punish whoever uses a currency other than the ones issued by the group.

During Friday sermons, Islamic State preachers at the group’s havens on Annah, Rawa and Qaim, west of Anbar, obliged civilians to use coins issued by the group’s “finance bureau”, threatening public whipping for violators.

Past reports had told of the group imposing the currency at other havens in Syria and also in Mosul, its former capital which Iraqi forces recaptured in July.

Islamic State militants have held the three towns since 2014, when they occupied a third of Iraq to proclaim their self-styled “caliphate”. So far, there has not been a wide-scale campaign to retake those regions, but occasional offensives by government forces and allied Popular Mobilization Forces have managed to take over several surrounding villages.

The Iraqi government declared victory over Islamic State in Mosul, the group’s former capital in Iraq, in July, and said it was going to proceed towards other group holdouts, including Anbar. Government troops are currently battling Is out of Tal Afar, west of Nineveh.

Late July, Iraqi army warplanes reportedly dropped millions of messages on western Anbar telling locals that liberation offensives for the province were nearing, and advising them to stay away from militants’ deployments.

Iraq
Iraq forces recapture city of Tal Afar from ISIS
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi forces have captured 90 percent of the city of Tal Afar and are clearing it from ISIS militiants.
That was quick.
Iraqi military units, who have been battling in the last 7 days to drive ISIS from its bastion, said Saturday they had recaptured a large portion of the the city.

Earlier on Saturday military units reached the city centre and raised the country's flag atop its Ottoman-era citadel.

"Units of the Counter-Terrorism Service liberated the Citadel and Basatin districts and raised the Iraqi flag on top of the citadel," operation commander General Abdulamir Yarallah said in a statement.

The CTS and federal police units had converged on the city centre from the south and west, said General Yarallah.

Clashes were ongoing on the northern outskirts and Iraqi forces were dealing with the final pockets of resistance inside the city, he added.

Saturday's advance puts Iraqi forces on the verge of recapturing Tal Afar only six days after they launched an offensive to take back one of the last ISIS strongholds in the country.

It follows weeks of Iraqi and US-led coalition air strikes.

Tal Afar is located 70 kilometres (40 miles) west of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, where the krazed killer group declared its "caliphate" in 2014 before being ousted from the city in July.

Iraqi forces on Saturday also seized three northern districts of Tal Afar and the al-Rabia neighbourhood west of the citadel, a day after taking the al-Talia district to the south.

Tal Afar, which had 200,000 residents until ISIS captured it in a 2014 offensive, is on a strategic road that linked ISIS-held territories in Syria with Mosul.

Once Tal Afar is retaken, Baghdad is expected to launch a new offensive on Hawija, 300 kilometres north of Baghdad.

ISIS also present in the vast western province of Anbar, where it controls several zones along the Syrian border with war-ravaged Syria, including the al-Qaim area.

The krazed killer group has lost much of the territory it controlled and thousands of its fighters have been killed.

[ARA News] The Kurdish Asayish police force in the Afrin district, in Syria’s northwester Aleppo province, captured a car loaded with two ATGM missiles coming from the rebel-held Idlib city on the road to Azaz.

The missiles were discovered after the Asayish inspected a car.

The missiles were reportedly destined for Turkey-backed rebels.

Asayish forces arrested the driver and transferred him to “the competent authorities to conduct the necessary investigations,” local sources told ARA News on Saturday.

Leaked recordings of Libyan imam provoke outrage in Switzerland
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Swiss state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
has accused a holy man of Libyan origin, Salah Ramadan al-Fituri ben Salem, nicknamed "Abu Ramadan", of inciting hatred against other religions through his sermons at a mosque in Bern.

The report on Friday also said that that "Abu Ramadan" takes part in programs broadcasted by the Libyan channel "Altnasah".

In one of the leaked passages of a sermon, the imam says: "Oh Allah, I beg you to destroy the enemies of our religion. Destroy the Jews, the hateful Christians, the Hindus, the Russians and the disobedient Shiites."

The issue became even more complicated when state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
revealed that Abu Ramadan was receiving welfare from Swiss taxpayers, amounting to $600,000, for 13 years.

"Abu Ramadan" was born in the Libyan city of Derna, and was detained since 1998 in the era of Muammar Qadaffy
...The late megalomaniac dictator of Libya, admired everywhere for his garish costumes, funny hats, harem of cutie bodyguards, and incoherent ravings. As far as is known, he is the only person who's ever declared jihad on Switzerland...
on charges of inciting violence and his alleged involvement in a terrorist organization before moving to Britannia and Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
as a refugee.
The Local - Switzerland adds:
The 64-year-old is an occasional volunteer preacher at the Ar’Rahman mosque in Biel/Bienne, said the paper.

The preacher came to Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
as a refugee in 1998 and was in 2001 granted asylum, claiming he was persecuted by the regime of Colonel Gadaffi. He now has a C permit granting permanent residence.

According to the Tages Anzeiger he has hardly worked during his time in Switzerland and has received nearly 600,000 francs in benefits over the past 13 years.
Because as a member of the Master Religion he is entitled to live off the work of the kaffirs.
The town of Nidau, where the Libyan lives, confirmed to the media including news agency ATS that he was a long-term client of the social services and that it supported an "immediate investigation of the serious accusations".

However it added that as a matter of principle social assistance is given irrespective of personal convictions "as long as these convictions are not relevant to criminal law".

On Wednesday ATS reported that the authorities in Biel/Bienne are considering making a criminal complaint against the preacher for his suspected hate speech.
On August 3rd the man’s refugee status was withdrawn by the Swiss migration office (SEM) since he had several times travelled to Libya and had a Libyan passport, said ATS.
How amusing, though perhaps not for Old Abu.
Since he no longer has the right to asylum, he is now subject to the provisions of the foreigners’ law, meaning he could have his C permit withdrawn under certain conditions.

However he still has the right to appeal the change in his asylum status.
How many years will that take, during which he will continue to draw benefits at the same rate as before?

Iraq
6 Kurds die in roadside bomb attack
Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Six Kurdish Peshmerga were killed and wounded Saturday when an explosive device went off on the side of a road west of Kirkuk, according to a security source.

Mawazin News quoted the source saying that the device was planted on the side of a road between Ismail Awa and Kharba Rot regions when a vehicle owned by the Peshmerga Ministry passed.

One passenger was killed and five others were injured in the blast, according to the source.

Islamic State militants continue to step up attacks against security forces even after they lost their biggest stronghold in Iraq, Mosul, which Iraqi forces recaptured last month, marking a symbolic collapse of the group’s “caliphate” proclaimed in 2014.

The Iraqi government plans to aim at the few remaining IS havens in the country, including Kirkuk. Troops are currently nearing victory over IS in its stronghold town of Tal Afar, west of Nineveh.

Peshmerga fighters have been part of the U.S.-backed military campaign to retake IS-held areas which launched in October.

Children among 14 dead in new air strike on Yemen capital
[DAWN] Children were among at least 14 people killed in an air strike that toppled residential blocks in Yemen’s capital Sanaa on Friday, witnesses and medics said.

The attack was the latest in a wave of deadly raids on residential areas of Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
blamed on a Saudi-led Arab military coalition, drawing strong international condemnation.

The United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
has accused the Arab coalition of killing 42 civilians in the week to Thursday, including many children.

Amnesia Amnesty International’s Middle East research director, Lynn Maalouf, said the coalition "rained down bombs on civilians while they slept".

She called in a statement for the UN to take action against Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
over the list of civilian facilities struck in deadly air raids over the past two years.

"We are calling on the UN to look at the evidence -- the schools and hospitals that lie in ruins, the hundreds of young lives lost to reckless air strikes," Maalouf said.

The International Committee of the Red Thingy condemned the latest deadly raid as "outrageous".

"Eight of the victims were members of the same family, including five children between three and 10 years old," said the deputy head of the ICRC’s delegation in Yemen, Carlos Morazzani, after visiting the site.

Radical July 7 preacher arrested in undercover sting trying to recruit jihadis
[Telegraph] A radical Moslem holy man who influenced one of the July 7 London bombers has been incarcerated
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
after officers in the US caught him allegedly trying to recruit jihadis in an undercover sting operation.

Abdullah el-Faisal, who was deported to Jamaica from Britannia in 2007 after serving a sentence for soliciting murder and causing racial hatred, is now facing extradition to New York.

According to the Manhattan district attorney, el-Faisal offered to help an undercover officer travel to the Middle East and join Isil.

El-Faisal, who was arrested on Friday in Jamaica, was a mentor of Jermaine Lindsay, who detonated a bomb on a Tube train near King's Cross, killing 25 passengers.

He was arrested after a month long sting carried out by an undercover New York Police Department officer who communicated with him by email, text and video chat.

According to the Manhattan district attorney, el-Faisal offered to help an undercover officer travel to the Middle East and join Isil.
El-Faisal, 53, was sentenced to seven years after becoming the first person for a century to be prosecuted under the 1860 Public Order Act.

Lindsay, also from Jamaica and also a convert to Islam, attended at least one lecture by El-Faisal and listened to tapes of his sermons. During the preacher's trial, he was heard telling audiences to kill Hindus, Jews and other non-Moslems like "cockroaches".

El-Faisal arrived in the UK in 1992 and married a British biology graduate, establishing himself as a lay preacher at Brixton Mosque, often preaching to crowds of up to 500 people.

His preaching came to the attentions of police when tapes of his sermons were found in the car of a suspected rapist in Dorset in late 2001.

During subsequent searches of specialist Islamic bookshops and El-Faisal's rented house in Stratford, East London, police found other recordings in which he exhorted young Moslems to accept the deaths of women and kiddies as "collateral damage" and to "learn to fly planes, drive tanks... load your guns and to use missiles".

He told young British Moslems it was their duty to kill non-believers, Jews, Hindus and Westerners, urging them to adopt a "jihad mentality".

He also promised schoolboys that they would be rewarded with "72 virgins in paradise" if they died in a holy war.

The jury watched a video of El-Faisal after the Sept 11 attacks telling up to 150 young Moslems that the Koran justified attacking "kaffirs", or unbelievers.

Britain
Christopher Steele, Safe Houses, and Tin Foil Hats in Farnham
[Robert Lewis' blog] My last post expressed concern about the possibility our intelligence services might seek to unduly influence British elections, and since then it has transpired that a former SIS officer, and a few of his former SIS colleagues, sought to do precisely that to the last US Presidential election. Months before the vote, Christopher Steele was privately touting a now notorious dossier of entirely fictional Trump allegations supplied to him (so Steele claimed) by impeccable sources in Russian intelligence. The finer details of this episode are unclear to me, but what I find particularly interesting is the light it casts on an aspect of the Hutton Inquiry, which was held (14 years ago now) to examine "the circumstances surrounding the death of David Kelly".

I have no idea if Christopher Steele and David Kelly ever met, although considering Steele was working under diplomatic cover in Moscow while Kelly toured the country as part of a secret biowarfare inspection team, I think it’s safe to say they may well have done. Although they both relied on obviously unreliable humint to draft dodgy dossiers, no working relationship suggests itself. What I am more interested in is Christopher Steele’s current whereabouts.

After Steele was named as the originator of this dossier the press were at his family home within hours. The exact process by which he was identified, and his home tracked down, is also unclear, but by the time the journalists arrived, he had gone. According to reports, Steele and his family had left the night before. They had dropped their three cats off with a neighbour for safekeeping, and without saying where they were going, they disappeared in such a hurry that they left all their lights on. Where they are now, nobody knows. Every single mainstream media outlet has it that Steele’s family are in a safe house some where, and "security sources" (whoever they might be) are briefing journos to this effect.

Report: US delegation tells Abbas settlement freeze could ruin Netanyahu, refuses to set borders on 1967 lines
[Ynet] Al-Hayat quotes Western sources saying no significant progress made in Ramallah meeting; Americans refuse to set borders of Paleostinian state based on 1967 lines, clarify settlement construction halt not possible.

A US delegation led by President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner has reportedly told Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
that a halt in settlement construction in the West Bank is impossible, because it could bring about the collapse of Benjamin Netanyahu's government, Western diplomatic sources told the London-based al-Hayat newspaper.

The Western sources also told the paper the delegation had not made significant progress in the negotiations between Israel and the Paleostinians during the official visit to Ramallah.

The US delegation told Abbas that it would work to consolidate economic, security and diplomatic relations between Israel and the Paleostinians before the talks begin. The Paleostinians, for their part, sought economic freedom in Area C and a change in economic agreements.

In addition, the newspaper reported the American delegation expressed willingness to reach a two-state solution, despite the clarification that a settlement construction halt was not possible.

Al-Haya further reported the Americans refused to set the borders of the future Paleostinian state based on the 1967 lines, and decided to leave this issue open to discussion by the two sides.

The US delegation, headed by Kushner and Trump's envoy to the Middle East Jason Greenblatt, met separately on Thursday with Netanyahu and with Abbas in an effort to promote Israeli-Paleostinian peace, something Trump referred to as "the ultimate deal."

A statement by the US Consulate General in Jerusalem called the meeting between the American delegation and the Paleostinians "productive," noting that "Both sides agreed to continue with the US-led conversations as the best way to reach a comprehensive peace deal."

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
Paleostinian officials were frustrated by the fact the American delegation refrained from committing to a two-state solution, telling the Washington Post that "negotiations without any set parameters would benefit only the Israeli side."

Ashraf Khatib, a front man for the PLO's Negotiations Affairs Department, told the Post, "We have clearly emphasized to the Americans the importance of having a public statement that has a commitment to the two-state solution. There hasn't been any."

Khatib further warned that "Without a vision, it will be negotiations for negotiations’ sake."

On Friday evening, Abbas spoke on the phone with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and updated him on his meeting with the American delegation.

The Paleostinian state news agency Wafa reported the phone call was part of ongoing consultations between the Paleostinians and the Saudis, and that the two agreed to continue these consultations.

Earlier in the day, Abbas spoke to the Emir of Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, also updating him on the talks with the American delegation.

CNN: 'Ordinary People' Are 'White Supremacists by Default'
[PJMEDIA] On Thursday, CNN's John Blake published a story blaming "ordinary people" for making Charlottesville possible, and quoting a history professor who called such people "white supremacists by default."

"We are a country with a few million passionate white supremacists -- and tens of millions of white supremacists by default," Mark Naison, a political activist and history professor at Fordham University in New York City, told CNN. "You have to have millions of people who are willing to be bystanders, who push aside evidence of racism, Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
, or sexism. You can't have one without the other."

Blake, the CNN news hound, paraphrased activists like Naison saying "the tragedy that took place in Charlottesville this month could not have occurred without the tacit acceptance of millions of ordinary, law-abiding Americans who helped create such a radically explosive climate."

He argued that "it's the ordinary people -- the voters who elected a reality TV star with a record of making racially insensitive comments, the people who move out of the neighborhood when people of color move in, the family members who ignore a relative's anti-Semitism -- who give these type of men room to operate, they say."

Throughout the article, Blake remained careful to acknowledge that these were the words of activists like Naison, rather than himself.

But at the end, he slipped up. "If you want to know why those white racists now feel so emboldened, it may help to look at all the ordinary people around you, your neighbors, your family members, your leaders. But first, start by looking at yourself."

Calif. Catholic school removes Jesus and Mary statues: ‘Alienating’
[WASHINGTONTIMES] An independent Catholic school in San Anselmo, California, has sparked the ire of some parents after officials removed and relocated a large number of religious statues, reportedly including those of Jesus and Mary, in order not to alienate children of other faiths.

Amy Skewes-Cox, who heads San Domenico School’s board of trustees, said at least 18 of the 180 religious icons still remain at the school as part of a plan approved unanimously by the board last year, the Marin Independent Journal reported.

Ms. Skewes-Cox said the timing of the statues’ removals and the national statue debate spurring from the unrest in Charlottesville, Virginia, is an unfortunate coincidence and have “absolutely no connection other than it is change, and people have a hard time with change.”

“If you walk on the campus and the first thing you confront is three or four statues of St. Dominic or St. Francis, it could be alienating for that other religion, and we didn’t want to further that feeling,” she said.

Sister Maureen McInerney, prioress general of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael, said the plan is to make the K-12 school more inviting to students of all faiths.

“San Domenico is a Catholic school; it also welcomes people of all faiths,” she told the Marin Independent Journal. “It is making an effort to be inclusive of all faiths.”

#5  Local bishops are ultimately in charge of things like this. The school is in San Marin county, which is part of the San Francisco Archdiocese. The bishop should either convince the board to change their minds, or declare that the school is no longer allowed to call itself Catholic.

Of course, Archbishop Cordileone is the archbishop of San Francisco. Nancy Pelosi is one of his flock, and he has not excommunicated her for her open and vocal support of abortion. So, I really doubt he is going to do anything about the San Domenico school.

#6  I'm not sure the local bishop has any say in the matter. According to this, it sounds like independent schools are privately funded rather than parochial, despite the fact that this one was founded by Dominican sisters in the 19th century. Given the paucity of non-elderly nuns nowadays, I suspect the number of actual Catholics on staff, let alone proper nuns, is a small percentage of the whole.
