#6 Sobieski kicked assholes through eyeballs, for sure, and in spite of French machinations and the feckless Leopold.

I recommend Jan Sobieski - The King Who Saved Europe by Miltiades Varvounis, even if the translation is a bit broken at times.

He was a top shelf bad-ass whose enemies would fill their boots and the whisper of his name - and that was his reputation before his famous, impossible march to the relief of Vienna.
