#1 The Caucasian region is as muddled as the Balkans. A lot of swords and "Funny hats", plus, Stalin was supposedly an ethnic Ossetian, which is either pride or shame depending on the Ossetian you talk to. Plus, Ossetia is divided in two, North Ossetia is part of Russia, and South is part of Georgia. Then you have the divide between Christians and Moslems there too. This is a total mess.
