#1 Interesting redefinition of noblesse oblige into the liberal elitist 'racism' that the sad pathetic brown and black skinned peoples of the world bear no responsibility for their lot and, in fact, can't succeed without the guiding hand of benevolent white liberals.

Damn. Harsh. He's saying there is no end to their arrogance - and ignorance. He knows they really have no clue why shit happens - and are thus limited to pointless social falderol and endless wasted time, motion, and resources in response to every ill they encounter. He's condemning them as truly foolish twits, idiots, and fools. He nails them to the wall. Damn. Harsh. He's substantially right.

#2 well said!

Slightly off topic: I watched the movie "The Lovely" tonight and I was struck at what an accurate portrayal it was of the Paris/NY/Hollywood 20th Century mindset. And how it so accurately describes what a "retro" 20th Century lie that today's leftists so desperately want to live in.

I was also struck by just how completely out of touch these Paris/NY/Hollywood folks really are. And the theater was full of wannabees that somehow felt their lives were made more interesting by sitting in the theater and somehow believing, that- by watching this movie of excess, money, fame and self-destructive behavior - and then having Thai food afterward - that they too were avante guarde, just like the protagonist. Not like those boring, religious, family-oriented people who eat hot dogs and have to struggle to get by. No sireee..they were wild-things too!

It reminded me of a woman I knew who had a gambling problem. She wanted to quit - but going to the casinos made her feel daring and special. If she stopped going to the casinos, she was just another boring housewife.

There's a line in The Lovely, where the main character's life is falling apart and he feels the need to even trash it further by pissing off his very best friends .... His friend says, "I think you're trying very hard to be bad."

For some reason, I just thought the whole movie summed up the delusion of the left.

"The Left" is a rather vague expression.

#5 A viewer of the left once said that the define diversity as having a conference where black Marxists, white Marxists, red Marxists and brown Marxists of both male and female gender are all prominent.

#7 B - Remember The Big Chill?

At the beginning is the memorial service for a guy named Alex, who committed suicide... There's an old country preacher (his church is being used for the service) who didn't know Alex, and is genuinely puzzled by anyone committing suicide. He makes a a statement which is, for me, fairly close to the ultimate statement and question for mankind. He is asking, rhetorically, where Alex's "hope" went and how did he lose it. Then he asks:

"Isn't it enough just to be a good man among your fellow men, anymore?"

Why, yes. Yes it is. That's precisely the point of it all. Be a good man / woman, in spite of the myriad BS reasons, laments, complaints, distractions, time wasters, cause du jour, foolish pursuits, peer and societal pressure, and carefully crafted studies and articles which, whether well-intentioned or mercenary, actually have little or nothing to do with individual self-esteem and happiness.

Just my take...

"The Left" is a rather vague expression. In the posted article, the author seems to use the expression as a two-word synonym for "total stupidity and absolute evil." The author might have a more precise interpretation of the expression, but I didn't perceive it.

#11 I have an interesting theory about the hate-Bush left. (deal with it, Mike). If you dig deep enough, they usually had some kind of physical challenge (perceived or real) that caused them to be picked on as children. They were bow-legged, or cross eyed, too fat, too short or just plain felt picked on and outside of the “in-crowd”. As a result, they find solace in sniping at those whom they feel are well adjusted, and in control, as if to say, “sure, you may think you’re cool and accepted, but I, and my friends like Michael Moore and the NYT say you are stupid! Thus no matter how successful you are or much success you have, I’ll always be better than you. I could go on and tie in their need for pre-packaged rage…but I’m already wasting bandwidth.

Sure you can point to people on “the right” who are doing this too….but right now the Anti-Bush crowd has the media acting as their big brother and with that powerful segment of society backing them up, they are really soaking in a smuggness and sense of superiority they get by feeling bigger than the most successful man on the planet. GW. The more he succeeds, the bigger they are to think that they are bigger than him.

#13 I have a theory about the anti-Bush folks as well (similar to B's but slightly different).

My crazy lefty Aunt went on a rant about how Bush was a frat boy! I pointed out Kerry was in the same Fraternity at the same University so if she's gonna use frat boy as a put down she's nailing him. She couldn't get her mind around it because Bush acts like the party-boy frat stereo type some people absolutely hate that. He gets under their skin because he's popular and successful without seeming to try. You must at least Try to look like you're trying! Even if its easy.

#14 ..."the French have a term for this; they call it noblesse oblige..."the inferred obligation of people of high rank or social position to behave nobly or kindly toward others..."

Even if a gang beats the crap out of you, you think you have to behave kindly. Isn't that plain ol' masochism?

But ok, whatever. Why are they obliged? What is their motivation?

Leftists are self-anointed saviors, enlightened elites that will bring about a new golden age for mankind if only the American people will embrace their ideas and vote their candidates into office.
(my emphasis)

Yep. Just as I thought. So when exactly does Utopia go out of fashion again? Does it work like the 17-year locust cycle?
