#1 It's more complicated than it looks. Tuberculosis has been a much more common and virulent infection in past centuries -- giving iron to iron deficient patients with TB can actually make their infections worse! This basic research is definitely worth doing, although the end results are not known at present. The ultimate treatment may well have nothing to do with giving patients extra iron.

#2 You miss the point Anguper Hupomosing9418: Abraham & Radoshitzky just secured their tenures. As to aplicability, remember how they used to declare a "solution" to a whole range of deseases (HIV first & foremost) every time they found a new Th1 or Th2 cytokine?
