#2 When I was in, there were some field grade officers I didn't like. Goes with the territory. There were no field grade officers commanding combat units who were incapable of thinking on their feet, doing their homework, and generally taking care of business.
This clown was outclassed before he started.

#3 That's an understatement. I would never even try to sharpshoot (rhetorically) a good senior command combat officer, because they would almost certainly eat your lunch.

Norman Schwartzkopf was renowned for intellectually grilling his subordinate commanders. One of them related the degree of difficulty.

In a quieter moment, he had been briefing Schwartzkopf on a detailed logistics status, and when he was done, Schwartzkopf asked him how many Iraqi flag officers were facing off against the US on their side of the border. "47", he replied.

Then Schwartzkopf asked him, "What are their names?"

The subordinate commander was pleased to say that he was able to recite the list, which is why he was working for Schwartzkopf in the first place, and why he continued to do so.

#4 Alan West does my heart good. In age of PC, West has the stones to tell it like it is. A few more like him in Congress and these wars might be wrapped up.
