Allegedly, the most likely successor, Prince Nayef, is more closely aligned with the often treacherous Wahhabi religious leaders, but at the same time he has a major down on terrorism and the Shiites. So, more conservative, but less willing to abide radical nonsense.

Abdullah, the king, remains, so can act as a veto if Nayef is too troublesome. The rest of the family has seen some liberalization, and may have liked what they saw, since Sultan was proposing a whole bunch more of it, even if gradual.

#5 Died at a NY hospital? The quality of health care in the U.S. is still the best in the world. Foreigners with money still come here for treatment. It is not 2014 and ObamaCare has not hit. Probably wouldn't make a difference in this case since he has more of our money via oil than Midas.
