PORTLAND -- A North Portland home was raided Tuesday after fliers throughout the neighborhood advertised drug sales at the address, police said.

Of the seven adults inside the home during the raid, six were arrested on various drug charges. A teenager in the home was placed in protective custody.

Early Tuesday morning police executed a search warrant at a home in the 3900 block of N Massachusetts Avenue, according to Lt. Robert King with the Portland Police Bureau.

Officers said they found nearly 20 grams of marijuana, more than 10 grams of heroin, a sawed-off shotgun, thousands of dollars in cash and the materials for a methamphetamine lab inside the home.

"The neighborhood response team began this investigation over a year ago because of numerous neighborhood complaints," King said. "At one point a neighbor gave officers an 8" by 10" flier found in the neighborhood that said 'Heroin for sale' and gave the address and the names of the dealers."

Neighbors were grateful that the investigation led to arrests.

"It was taxpayer money at work. It was great," said neighbor Doug Barrett. "It's what we've been longing for, so it was a great relief and we told them so."

"They came out smiling; they were happy to see us," said Sgt. John Birkinbine of the positive response from the neighbors. "A lady brought a bucket full of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies to us to tell us thank you. We felt like fire fighters for a few minutes. It was good."

Bauchi police arrest grandfather for killing grandchild for rituals
[Nigerian Tribune] THE Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a grandfather, one Sani Hamidu, with his son who conspired and killed his grandchild, Sagiru Abdullahi, removed his eyes, private part and throat for ritual purpose.

Addressing journalists at the police headquarters on Wednesday on behalf of the state Police Commissioner, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdulmajid Ali, said the grandfather, who was among the 16 suspects arrested and paraded by the command in recent days, committed the act at Ashura Rahama village in Toro Local Government Area of the state, adding that after they committed the dastardly act, the corpse of the boy was dumped into a well from where the police recovered it.

Ali, however, said the son was at large while the police were still investigating the case with a view to charging the suspects to court for culpable homicide, which he said was punishable with death.

Also paraded was one Mohammed Sabo of Rigar Isamiya Darazo for beating his wife to death with hoe on their way to the farm.

Lindsay Lohan fails to turn up at LA morgue
[Dawn] Troubled US actress Lindsay Lohan was turned away from the LA county morgue Thursday, after turning up late for community service ordered as part of her probation terms, officials said.

The star apologized for being late, her latest no-show, saying on Twitter than she wouldn't do it again.
Did she apologize to her supervisor at the morgue? Or was this for her 'fans'?
Lohan had been scheduled to arrive for an 8:00 am start, a day after she was briefly incarcerated when a Los Angeles judge revoked the probation pending a hearing to determine whether she violated her terms.
Usually when your probation is revoked it's a straight 'go to jail'. Why Ms. Lindsay isn't behind bars is a mystery. Wait, no it isn't...
The 25-year-old turned at 8:41 am, and was therefore turned away for being late, said coroner's chief Craig Harvey. "She's welcome to come back, but she has to show up on time," he said.

The star of "Mean Girls" appeared handcuffed in court on Wednesday, but was later released after paying $100,000 bail, and a probation violation hearing was set for November 2.

She is supposed to carry out 16 hours of community service at the LA morgue by that date, so she can still fulfil that requirement despite missing the day Thursday -- but it will not look good.

Lohan apologized for being late on Twitter, writing: "With all the stress and pressure from yesterday and today, I've never been so happy to go to therapy!!!!"

"Also, I'm sorry for the confusion that I may of caused to those at the coroner's office. Won't happen again, now I know where to go! Thank you for your help," she added.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner said Wednesday that Lohan had failed to complete the 480 hours of community service as ordered for her jewelry theft conviction.

Most of the hours had been due to be completed at the Downtown Women's Center as ordered, but Lohan missed nine appointments. And when she did attend, Sautner said she sometimes only stayed for one hour, rather than the required minimum of four.

"There has been violation after violation," Sautner said. "Probation is a gift. It's a gift. It's not a right."
Put her in jail for a few months and she might figure that out. She might even tweet about it...
Lohan was sentenced to 35 days of house detention in May, as part of a plea bargain over the alleged theft of a $2,500 necklace from a jewelry shop near her home in Venice Beach.

Sautner ruled she had violated her probation for a 2007 drug and drunk driving offense when she allegedly stole the necklace on January 22.

Six more polio cases in Sindh
[Dawn] At a time when Pakistain is gearing up for yet another anti-polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
drive (Oct 24 to 26), health authorities on Wednesday confirmed six more polio cases in Sindh, including two detected in Bloody Karachi, raising the total number of polio cases to 27 in the province and 128 in Pakistain during the current year.

The latest victims, three girls and three boys ranging in ages from 10 to 56 months, reflected badly on the quality of the previous polio drives, said an official associated with immunisation activities in the province.Bloody Karachi has so far reported eight polio cases, the highest number this year, followed by Thatta (six cases) and Badin (three cases).

According to the latest countrywide data, Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
topped with 53 polio cases reported this year, followed by Fata (34), Sindh (27), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
(11), Punjab (two) and Gilgit-Baltistan (one case).

Among the newly affected children, the first was Sharjeel, 10 months, son of Mulazim Hussain, resident of Sikandar Goth, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town. The child who had the onset of paralysis on Oct 10 was in all given seven doses for immunity against poliovirus.

Another child detected in Bloody Karachi belonged to Gulshan-i-Gahzi in Baldia Town, who was given only one dose under routine immunisation, while no supplementary dose was given to him during any of the polio campaign. The child, Hidayatullah, aged 15 months, son of Sadiq Rahman, had the onset of the disease on Oct 7, said a local official, adding that he could be termed a strong case of rejection of polio immunisation.

The other four polio cases confirmed on Thursday belonged to Qambar and Thatta.

Mohammad Ali, 36 months, son of Abdul Waheed, a resident of Ghareebabad Mohalla, Qambar, had received one routine and 10 additional polio doses.

Kulsoom, 56 months, daughter of Mashooq Ali, who lived in Rozi Khan Kathore village of Qambar, had received none of the routine and 10 additional doses against poliovirus.

In Thatta, Bakhtawar, daughter of Babu Magsi, aged 36 months, was reported as the fifth victim of the poliovirus in the district for this year. She lived in Talib Magsi village of Chato Chan union council and had received no routine but 10 supplementary doses for prevention against polio.

Another case from Thatta, a 10-month-old girl, Erum, daughter of Gul Hassan Mangarhar, lived in Memon Mohalla, Sujawal. She had received not a single preventive dose since birth.

#3  Their succession is always risky. Sultan made bold, by Saudi standards, efforts at reform, including creating a succession council about a decade ago, that may or may not figure into who is next in line.

Allegedly, the most likely successor, Prince Nayef, is more closely aligned with the often treacherous Wahhabi religious leaders, but at the same time he has a major down on terrorism and the Shiites. So, more conservative, but less willing to abide radical nonsense.

Abdullah, the king, remains, so can act as a veto if Nayef is too troublesome. The rest of the family has seen some liberalization, and may have liked what they saw, since Sultan was proposing a whole bunch more of it, even if gradual.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Could a Russia-US rail tunnel be built?
Russian officials have backed the idea of a rail tunnel linking Russia and the US.

It would run under the Bering Strait for 105km (65 miles) - twice the length of the UK-France Channel Tunnel.

The tunnel itself has been estimated to cost $10-12bn and to take 10-15 years to build.

But an additional 4,000km (2,485 miles) of new track would be needed to link it to Russia's rail network, plus another 2,000km (1,243 miles) to connect to existing services on the US side.

Australian riot police break up 'Occupy' protest
An inspiration to us all...
MELBOURNE, Australia: Riot police in Australia's second-largest city broke up a demonstration linked to the "Occupy Wall Street" movement Friday, after a group of around 100 people protesting corporate greed defied an order to vacate a plaza.

Between 15 and 20 members of the "Occupy Melbourne" group were arrested and around 20 people, including two police officers, suffered minor injuries in the scuffle, Victoria state Police Assistant Commissioner Stephen Fontana said. Several demonstrators screamed and cried as police dragged and carried them away from the city square, where protesters had been camped out for nearly a week.

Around 100 "Occupy" activists in Melbourne had been camped out in the square without incident since Oct. 15, many spending each night there in tents. But the Melbourne City Council finally said it had had enough, and warned protesters to leave by Friday morning or face trespassing charges.

Most activists ignored the eviction order, linking arms and forming a human chain while shouting, "This is a peaceful protest!"

Police fenced off the square and refused to let any additional protesters join the group. Fontana denied accusations that police used excessive force and said protesters had been given plenty of time to leave the area voluntarily.

"We've asked the demonstrators to move on peacefully. They obviously haven't," he said. "At some stage, we had to move in. There are other people that would like to use the city square."
Clearly the protesters didn't learn about sharing in kindergarten, the selfish things.
Police broke down the campsite, removing tents, trash, food and cardboard boxes that littered the plaza.
One of the signs of mental difficulties is lack of basic hygiene...

Norwegian energy giant Statoil confirmed Friday that a large new oil discovery in the North Sea announced earlier this year is twice as big as previously thought.

The giant Aldous Major South field is estimated to contain between 900 million and 1.5 billion barrels of recoverable oil equivalent (boe), or double the 400 to 800 million boe previously announced, Statoil said.

Cash-strapped Greece turns to God for help
As with any disaster, humans regularly turn to God for help and it seems the Greek government is no different

The Greek Orthodox church – Greece's second largest landowner after the government – has come under fire for not paying enough in taxes on its assets.

One group to join the protests in Athens against austerity measures is Make the Church Pay. Its members are fed-up with the inadequacy of the church administration to support their country in its hour of need. A similar Facebook group – Tax the Church – has 100,000 supporters.

"They simply don't pay. They are so rich, and yet their contribution is minimal," says Theodora, one of the protesters.

Police directed to produce uncle of 'swara victim' in court
[Dawn] The Beautiful Downtown Peshawar High Court on Thursday directed the local police to produce a man, who was allegedly trying to give his teenaged niece in swara to a rival family for settling a feud, before the bench.

A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Yahya Afridi directed the SHO of Daudzai cop shoppe to search for the said person, Zahir Khan alias Mullah Jan, and produce him on Nov 1, the date fixed for next hearing.
On the request of the girl the court directed to keep her at the Women Crisis Centre.

The girl had beat feet from her residence on Oct 12 and submitted an application to the chief justice seeking protection and stating that her family members including her uncle and brother were giving her in swara to an old man, who was already married and having children.

The girl claimed that many years ago when she was an infant a young Afghan girl had eloped with her uncle, who married her.

She said that a jirga at that time had decided that she would be given in swara to a cousin of the said girl and her marriage would be solemnised once she attained the age of puberty.

When the bench took up for hearing the case mother of the victim, who is also an Afghan refugee, appeared in person along with a counsel, Ashfaq Ahmad. She stated if her daughter was not willing for the marriage she should have told her instead of running away.

The bench inquired from her where was uncle of the victim and why he had not turned up before the court. The woman replied that he was living in a separate house in Haryana area.

SHO Mira Jan said that he would try to inform him to appear before the court. The bench directed him to search for him and positively produce him on next hearing.

The victim told journalists that she would prefer to die instead of returning to her family. When asked whether after her family gave guarantee that she would not be harmed she would go back, the girl replied that she could not trust them.

Before starting of the proceedings mother of the alleged victim tried to convince her to go with her and her family would not marry off her against her wishes. However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
the girl told her that she would not go with them.

Her mother and brother tried to dispel the impression that it was a case of swara and stated that the proposed bridegroom was not so old.

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
answering queries put to them by the journalists they conceded that the man was already married and having three children of whom the elder one was a 14-year-old daughter.

They also conceded that her uncle had married the woman, who had eloped with him several years ago and now they were having many children.

The woman admitted that marriage of her daughter was decided with the man many years ago when she was only an infant.

About age of her daughter, she said she was not sure, but she was about a year younger to her brother who was around 18.

She said that she had not seen the would-be bridegroom as he was living in Afghanistan.

The girl has claimed that her father was against this marriage, but now he was dead and her brother and uncle had agreed to marry off her after the festival of Eidul Azha.

She claimed that her uncle had now arranged the marriage of his daughter with her brother owing to which the latter was now accepting their demand to marry her to the man.
Ick. Brave girl.

D.C. Circuit Restores Much Gun Control Ability With 'Heller 2'
In a split ruling in an ongoing NRA-supported case challenging the restrictive gun laws established by the Washington D.C. government in defiance of the Supreme Court’s 2008 Heller decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has upheld a number of highly restrictive gun laws.

Unfortunately, the court ruled that the District’s general handgun registration requirement is constitutional. However, the court reached that conclusion by misreading the Supreme Court’s Heller decision as presuming that any type of “longstanding” restriction is constitutional, so it only upheld the more traditional aspects of the registration system, such as the requirements that the registrant provide his or her name and address, a description of the firearm and certain other basic information.

By contrast, the court found that other D.C. requirements, such as fingerprints, a vision requirement, ballistics tests and mandatory training, were “novel” and therefore need to be reviewed again by a lower court under a tighter standard of scrutiny. Similarly, the court found that long gun registration is “novel” in the U.S. and returned that issue to the lower court as well.

D.C. laws banning “assault weapons” and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition were also wrongly found to be constitutional. The Supreme Court said in Heller that “arms” are protected under the Constitution if they are “in common use,” and the D.C. Circuit found it “clear enough in the record that semi-automatic rifles and magazines holding more than ten rounds are indeed in ‘common use,’” based on Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives production statistics showing that “1.6 million AR-15s alone have been manufactured since 1986,” and that the banned magazines are even more prevalent.

But the court also found — based largely on the testimony of a Brady Campaign lawyer to the District of Columbia Council — that “the District ha[d] carried its burden of showing a substantial relationship between the prohibition of both semi-automatic rifles and magazines holding more than ten rounds and the objectives of protecting police officers and controlling crime.”

Fortunately, in a long and well reasoned dissenting opinion that may provide a road map for other courts, Judge Brett Kavanaugh rejected the majority’s reasoning. Rather than the “intermediate scrutiny” employed by the majority or any other “balancing test,” Judge Kavanaugh would have applied a standard based on “text, history, and tradition.” Under that standard, he argued that “it would strain logic and common sense to conclude that the Second Amendment protects semi-automatic handguns but does not protect semi-automatic rifles,” which “have not traditionally been banned and are in common use today.”

Judge Kavanaugh also would have rejected the entire registration system, arguing that D.C.’s type of total gun registration system is not “traditional” and “remains highly unusual today.”

The NRA strongly disagrees with the outcome, and is reviewing the decision and considering all options.

#1  Time to shift this from civil to criminal law for the pols. You pass it. It is ultimately found unconstitutional. You get prosecuted for civil rights violations. Feel free to tack on 'bad behavior' for judges who seek to bend original intent without sending it to the legislative branch for the proper amending process.

Florida Woman Ditches Her Family to Become a Part of Something Bigger—A Left Wing Mob at OWS.
A married mother of four from Florida ditched her family to become part of the raggedy mob in Zuccotti Park -- keeping the park clean by day and keeping herself warm at night with the help of a young waiter from Brooklyn.

“I’m not planning on going home,” an unapologetic Stacey Hessler, 38, told The Post yesterday.

“I have no idea what the future holds, but I’m here indefinitely. Forever,” said Hessler, whose home in DeLand sits 911 miles from the tarp she’s been sleeping under.

Hessler -- who ironically is married to a banker -- arrived 12 days ago and planned to stay for a week, but changed her plans after cozying up to some like-minded radicals, including Rami Shamir, 30, a waiter at a French bistro in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn.

#1  Just decided to indefinitely abandon four kids, eh? Her "bunkmates" must be supplying the super primo brain candy. If hubby hasn't already filed for divorce and custody, he's a bigger idiot than she. I wonder what she'll think when they're through passing her around and she's "occupying" the gutter. Assuming she's capable of a coherent thought, of course...

#9  I am sorry to say the left is right on track. Time magazine poll has 64% liking the Occupiers over the Tea party. Tea party only got 34%. People in stores and on the street are generally for soaking the rich. That the government is on their side. That they should give Obama a chance instead of fighting him all the time. This is a battle between those who work or produce and those who want to be given their piece of the pie.
Many will benefit from this. Funding is or will come from those who want our country destroyed, foreign and domestic.Guess who will tap that money?. Ben will ride in and O will have his stash to give out to get the vote out. People who get some sort of benefits want it to continue or be increased. The numbers against doing the right thing are staggering. That is the power of Chavez also. He's a big sugar daddy to his people. As long as they think that, he has control.

#11  #5 The decrepit Pete Seeger, 92, paid a visit to the Wall Street bunch.

The article in the Seeger story stated 1/3 (maybe only slightly more) of the American people support OWS. This is about the percentage of people in the Democrat Party.

The other observation is that the lame stream media (=Democrat party) spend a lot of time demonizing the Tea Party and destroying their image.

Go for it Random. Most likely the guy would welcome you with open arms after his initial experience with matrimony.

Dale, I'd be of (cautiously) good cheer and not worry quite so much that the Left has already won this battle. Polls from Time, CNN, the NY Times or any other Obamedia outfit can't be trusted, are agenda-driven and on numerous past occasions have been caught grossly oversampling Democrats/leftists. Gallup's poll on the Occupiers has 22% supportive, 15% opposing, and 63% not sure. Admittedly the Tea Party movement's doing a plain lousy job of getting its message past the Obamedia, but another Gallup poll shows that all isn't lost in that regard - a recent sample indicates people blame the Federal government more than Wall Street for the financial crisis by a factor of more than 2 to 1.
