Afghanistan
Afghanistan to back Pakistan if wars with U.S.: Karzai
Our duplicitous caped-crusader opines.
Afghanistan would support Pakistan in case of military conflict between Pakistan and the United States, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said in an interview to a private Pakistani TV channel broadcast on Saturday.
Pashtun tribal love
The remarks were in sharp contrast to recent tension between the two neighbors over cross-border raids, and Afghan accusations that Pakistan was involved in killing the chief Afghan peace envoy, former Afghan president Burhanuddin Rabbani, by a suicide bomber on September 20.
"he was collateral damage, just keep the drugs and cash coming"
"God forbid, If ever there is a war between Pakistan and America, Afghanistan will side with Pakistan," he said in the interview to Geo television.
Withdraw all our troops and citizens. Nuke em both from orbit. It's the only way to be sure
"If Pakistan is attacked and if the people of Pakistan needs Afghanistan's help, Afghanistan will be there with you."
"with our hand out"

#1  This weinerschnitzel has long worn out his welcome. He is not a good president of his country, he is a duplicitous scoundrel with bad intentions. And now he threatens the US.

All he would have to do is agree to sponsor al-Qaeda again, and from our point of view he would be as expendable as the Taliban government before him.

#2  I could be wrong but I'm interpreting Karzai's words to mean Muslim Afghanistan will align wid fellow Muslim Pakistan, but try to NOT become militarily involved in a US-PAK [Indo-Pak?] war.

Again, the real threat is INDO-PAK WAR to divert from Pakistan's troubles wid US, + which will drag in the US + CHINA, etc.

NATO to wind down in Libya over 10 days
BRUSSELS: NATO said Friday it plans to end its seven-month bombing campaign in Libya at the end of the month, leaving the battle-scarred country’s new authorities on their own to ensure security after the death of Muammar Qaddafi and the ouster of his regime.

The alliance made a preliminary decision to end the campaign on Oct. 31 and will make the formal decision next week, Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said after a meeting of the alliance’s governing body, the North Atlantic Council.

Diplomats said NATO air patrols are set to continue over Libya in the next 10 days as a precautionary measure to ensure the stability of the new regime. They will gradually be reduced in coming days if there are no further outbreaks of violence.
And if there are? What's the mission? Who are we supporting?
The council took into account the wishes of Libya’s new government and of the United Nations, under whose mandate NATO carried out its operations.

Fogh Rasmussen said NATO had no intention of leaving any residual force in or near Libya. “We expect to close down the operation.”

NATO earlier said its commanders were not aware that Qaddafi was in a convoy that NATO bombed as it fled Sirte. In a statement Friday, the alliance said an initial Thursday morning strike was aimed at a convoy of approximately 75 armed vehicles leaving Sirte, the Libyan city defended by Qaddafi loyalists. One vehicle was destroyed, which resulted in the convoy’s dispersal.

Another jet then engaged approximately 20 vehicles that were driving at great speed toward the south, destroying or damaging about 10 of them.

“We later learned from open sources and allied intelligence that Qaddafi was in the convoy and that the strike likely contributed to his capture,” the statement said.

Intelligence gleaned during surveillance flights around Sirte on Thursday indicated that a “command and control group, including senior military leaders” were attempting to flee from the town, British Prime Minister David Cameron’s spokesman Steve Field said.

“There was a strike, there was damage to the convoy, the Free Libya Fighters then moved in — as to what happened next that is not entirely clear,” he said.
Nor does it need to be...
NATO warplanes have flown about 26,000 sorties, including over 9,600 strike missions. They destroyed about 5,900 military targets, including Libya’s air defenses and over 1,000 tanks, vehicles and guns, as well as Qaddafi’s command and control networks.

The daily airstrikes finally broke the stalemate that developed after Qaddafi’s initial attempts failed to crush the rebellion that broke out in February. In August, the rebels began advancing on Tripoli, with the NATO warplanes providing close air support and destroying any attempts by the defenders to block them.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said earlier Friday that “the operation has reached its end.”

But in London, Britain had suggested that NATO may not immediately complete its mission in Libya, wary over the potential reprisal attacks by remaining Qaddafi loyalists.

Nigerian ex-militant mourns 'martyr'
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] A Nigerian ex-militant leader who claims to have lived in Libya and to have had links with Muammar Qadaffy
...whose instability has been an inspiration to dictators everywhere, but whose end couldn't possibly come to them...
called him a "martyr" on Friday and vowed that his killing would be avenged.

"Qadaffy spilled his blood as a martyr to rekindle the fire of revolution all over the world," Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, head of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, told AFP.

"Those who murdered him will not go scot-free."

There have been reports that Asari, who previously led a violent militancy in Nigeria's oil-producing Niger Delta region, received military training in Libya, but he was vague on the details of his stay there.

Qadaffy was accused of using Libya's oil wealth to fund and arm rebel groups across Africa.

"Even if I got training in Libya, what is wrong with getting training in Libya?" said Asari, a 48-year-old who was born into a Christian family but who converted to Islam in 1988. He said he spent time in Libya in 1990 and 1991.

"I was invited by the Libyan government and given a scholarship to go study Islam," he said. "When I arrived in Libya, they thought that I had revolutionary ideas, so I became close to the leadership and I started talking to them."

UN rights chief urges probe into Qadhafi's death
[Dawn] The circumstances surrounding the death of Libya's ousted despot Muammar Qadaffy
...who is now deader than a rock...
are unclear and an investigation is needed, the UN human rights
...which often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
chief said Friday.

"On the issue of Qadaffy's death yesterday, the circumstances are still unclear," Navi Pillay's front man Rupert Colville said.

"There should be some kind of investigation given what we saw yesterday."

Question marks remained about how Qadaffy met his end -- mobile phone footage appeared to show him captured bloodied but still alive and then killed by his captors.

"The two videos... taken together are very disturbing," noted Colville.

Nevertheless, Qadaffy's death and the fall of Sirte has led to a "new era" for Libya.

"One key aspect to obtain closure on the legacy of Qadaffy would be to ensure that justice is done," added the front man.

Arabia
Saudi crown prince death opens succession issue
...and good deals on used ice machines.
The heir to the Saudi throne, Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud, died undergoing treatment for illness in New York. The death of the prince, who was in his 80s, opens questions about the succession in the critical, oil-rich U.S. ally.

Sultan was the younger half-brother of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, who is has also been ailing and underwent back surgery last week.

The most likely candidate to replace Sultan as Abdullah's successor is Prince Nayef, the powerful interior minister in charge of internal security forces, who is said to be closer to Islamic conservatives than the king. The king gave Nayef -- also his half-brother -- the implicit nod in 2009 by naming him second deputy prime minister, traditionally the post of the second in line to the throne.

'Assad and Saleh you're next': Arabs warn online
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] The capture and death of Libya's ousted strongman Muammar Gaddafi has sparked an online frenzy in the Arab world, with social networking sites warning Syria's President Bashar al-Assad and Yemen's Ali Abdullah Saleh their time is up.

"Gaddafi called his people rats. He ended his life in a hole like a rat," tweeted @al4a10m in Arabic. "Tyrants, here is the lesson: your end is inevitable."

For activists and bloggers across the Arab world, Gaddafi's demise breathed new life into the popular revolts in Yemen and Syria, where months-long popular revolts.

Bloodied pictures

Pictures of Gaddafi, bloodied and bruised, were plastered on the front pages of newspapers across the region as online opinions ranged from glee to disgust.

"Gaddafi's end should be a lesson to the likes of Arab leaders everywhere -- those tyrants should know that the minute you point weapons at your own people, you lose your legitimacy," read an editorial in the Palestinian daily Al Quds.

"The third tyrant, dead in a hole," gloated the independent Egyptian daily Al-Masry Al-Youm, as the state-owned Al-Akhbar hailed "The end of the dictator."

As graphic images of Gaddafi's lifeless body circulated like wildfire online, social networks and blogs exploded with predictions -- often brutal -- of the demise of Saleh and Assad.

"Saleh, did you sleep well last night?" tweeted @Falihalhajri, addressing the Yemeni leader.

"Ben Ali fled, Mubarak is charged, Gaddafi was killed. The more the tyrant resists, the more horrible his punishment," tweeted @essamz.

"It looks like Bashar will be crucified right in the middle of Damascus."

Syria's opposition movement in particular has been reinvigorated by Gaddafi's killing, renewing calls for demonstrations against Assad.

"What happened yesterday sends a clear, forceful and determined message, especially to the Syrian president," said Hilal Khashan, political science professor at the American University of Beirut.

Venezuela's Chavez calls Qadhafi death 'outrage'
[Dawn] Venezuelan His Excellency President-for-Life, Caudillo of the Bolivarians Hugo Chavez on Thursday expressed anger over the death of Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years...
, calling it an "outrage" and saying the ousted Libyan strongman was a "martyr".

"Sadly the death of Qadaffy has been confirmed," said Chavez, who had just returned to Venezuela from cancer treatment in Cuba.

"They assassinated him. It is another outrage," the Venezuelan supremo told news hounds in the town of La Grita.

"We shall remember Qadaffy our whole lives as a great fighter, a revolutionary and a martyr," he said.

Chavez had defended Qadaffy since the start of the uprising against the Libyan leader's regime in February, and accused NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
of using the conflict to gain control over Libya's oil.

"The saddest thing is that in its quest to dominate the world, the empire and its allies are setting it on fire," Chavez said, referring to the United States by his preferred nickname.

Chavez has refused to recognize the new Libyan regime, and has ridiculed Libya's new UN representative as a "puppet" and a "dummy".

In 2004, Chavez was awarded the Al-Qadaffy International Prize for Human Rights, a prize granted by the Libyan leader. Cuba's Fidel Castro and Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega have also won the award.

Kadyrov: Gaddafi's death won't help Libya
Gaddafi's death will not improve the situation in Libya, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said on Friday. Kadyrov said, "Gaddafi has been killed and Libya is almost completely under the control of armed groups, so called insurgents. Western countries are rejoicing, but all of this is sad, because the woes of the Libyan people will continue. This black period will last for many years."

The Russian parliament earlier on Friday rejected a call from the Communist, Liberal Democratic and A Just Russia parties to adopt a statement expressing condolences over Gaddafi's death.

Several Russian politicians lamented his death, with Liberal Democratic Party of Russia leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky hailing the Libyan leader as "an African Karl Marx, a Libyan [Giuseppe] Garibaldi."

The Libyan leader's death also grieved Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and former head of the Russian republic of Kalmykia. Ilyumzhinov had met with Gaddafi in Tripoli during the 8-month-long standoff between his supporters and the rebels.

Kyrgyz authorities have extradited to the Russian Federation a Russian citizen wanted for alleged terrorism and involvement in the formation of an armed criminal group.

Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security (UKMK) officials told reporters in Bishkek that the suspect, whom they identified only by his surname, Akhtakhanov, left Bishkek on a plane to Moscow earlier on October 21. Akhtakhanov, 35, is originally from Chechnya. He was detained by Kyrgyz security troops in the village of Lebedinovka near Bishkek on August 8, after which the Kyrgyz and Russian authorities began negotiations on his extradition.

The Grand Turk
Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan eyes united front against PKK
[Hurriyet Daily News] Unity between political parties, NGOs and the public against terrorism is the solution to the ongoing conflict in Turkey, says PM Erdoğan
The call for anti-Israelism clearly not being enough to unite the Turks behind their Leader, another is being sought.
All of Turkey's parties and nongovernmental organizations should unite against terrorism just like Spain did against ETA, which declared an end to a half-century of armed struggle for a separate Basque state on Oct. 21, Turkey's prime minister has said.

"My dear friend Spanish Prime Minister [Jose Luis Rodrigues] Zapatero said in his statement that this was an achievement made possible by the joint stance of the ruling and opposition parties," Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told the Hak-İş Trade Union Confederation's annual convention on Oct. 21, in reference to the outlawed Basque Homeland and Freedom (ETA) group. "Therefore I call on all our political parties and nongovernmental organizations: Let's take steps together to produce a common mind to solve this problem.
"I know! Let's put on a play in the old barn!" is about what that feels like, but perhaps I'm missing the subtleties.
If we fail to do so, this process could last longer."

Erdoğan's call came on the second day of the military's cross-border incursion into northern Iraq in retaliation for an Oct. 19 raid by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party's (PKK) that killed 24 troops and injured 18 in the eastern province of Hakkari. The attack was one of the deadliest launched by the group in close to two decades.

Despite massive calls from the public and the media, political parties are still failing to find the common ground needed to end Turkey's terror problem, Erdoğan said, noting that they instead continue to criticize each other's policies in the strongest possible terms.

A delegation from 13 different NGOs and professional organizations, including the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), paid visits to party leaders, including Erdoğan and President Abdullah Gül, to both express support and make a call for unity. "It's the day to act in unity for a strong and peaceful Turkey," TOBB's head Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu told news hounds Oct. 21.

Quebec woman charged with trying to send arms parts to Lebanon
Mouna Diab was once in a Quebec youth group fighting discrimination against Muslims, but the outspoken 26-year-old activist had little to say this week after appearing in a Montreal courtroom to face a charge alleging she had violated an arms embargo that prohibits the export of weapons to Lebanon. She pleaded not guilty on Thursday and returns to court Nov. 10.

Diab was arrested at Montreal’s Trudeau airport on May 19 as she was departing for Beirut. In her luggage, investigators allegedly found AR-15 assault rifle parts. Other parts were allegedly shipped separately.

Police said the components could have been assembled into working firearms. An RCMP spokesman said, "If you put all the pieces together you could build or make two weapons with it."

Criminal charges against UN sanctions violators are rare in Canada, but not unprecedented. Last year, Mahmoud Yadegari of Toronto was sentenced to three years for trying to ship nuclear-related items to Iran.

The charges against Ms. Diab do not specify any intended recipient of the gun parts, nor would police elaborate. It is not apparent why anyone would take such a risk when Iran and Syria already keep their Lebanese allies armed to the teeth.

Diab's arrest has drawn attention to her activism. The website of the Montreal-based association des jeunes libanais musulmans, or Association of Young Lebanese Muslims, listed her as vice-president in 2007.

At the time, the website was linked to the sites of several anti-Western Shiite clerics, including Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, and the Iranian hardliner Mesbah Yazdi. It also linked to the late Lebanese cleric Mohammad Fadlallah’s website, which says it is "obligatory to wage war" against Israel and that making peace with Israelis is "not permissible." Muslims in "occupied land" must provide "material or moral support" to fighters, according to the cleric’s website.

In August 2006 the association signed a statement denouncing Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s position on the war that had erupted when Hezbollah attacked an Israel military convoy across Lebanon’s southern border.

The following February, Diab was part of a delegation that went to the town of Hérouxville to try to counter stereotypes about Muslims. The town had passed a code of conduct directed at immigrants that banned stoning, female genital mutilation and head coverings, among other things. Diab told La Presse that she found the code hurtful.

Later that year, she was quoted in a Le Devoir article about speaking to a cousin in Lebanon who was hiding from Israeli planes. She was quoted as saying, "It is difficult to present yourself differently when you are being attacked and the only ones defending you are members of Hezbollah. So you identify with Hezbollah, it’s normal."

India-Pakistan
US met Haqqani network, says Hillary Clinton
[Dawn] US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as the Smartest Woman in the World and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Walter Q. Gresham ...
on Friday admitted the United States held one exploratory meeting with the Haqqani network, which an official said took place before a series of massive attacks.

"In fact, the Pak government officials helped to facilitate such a meeting," Clinton told a roundtable with Pak television journalists watched by the US travelling media.

A US official said Pakistain's main spy Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) directorate had arranged for the meeting with the beturbanned goons that took place "in the summer," before two symbolic anti-American attacks in Afghanistan.

Clinton said that "we do not see any contradiction" between fighting and talking.

"And we want more coordination between the United States, Pakistain and Afghanistan for what must be, with respect to the conflict, an Afghan-led effort," the chief US diplomat said.

"We believe that there is now an opportunity for us to begin talking, but there is no guarantee that the talking will result in anything that will move us toward a peaceful resolution," Clinton said.

Zardari stresses enhanced Pak-US consultations
[Dawn] President Asif Ali President Ten Percent Zardari
... sticky-fingered husband of the late Benazir Bhutto ...
on Friday underscored the importance of enhanced consultations between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect, illusory sovereignty and interests.

He was talking to US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton,
... sometimes described as the Smartest Woman in the World and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Frederick T. Frelinghuysen ...
is leading a high-level delegation, who called on him at Aiwan- e-Sadr here.

During the one-on-one and delegation-level meetings, the two sides discussed host of issues relating to Pak-US relations, fight against militancy, and regional situation with particular reference to the situation obtaining in Afghanistan.

He said public criticism of Pakistain's role undermines its common struggle against militancy in the region.

He said, "Our people and the leadership is among the first ones to fully realize and comprehend the threat posed by violent mindset which is bred on the premises of deprivation and fuelled by sense of inequality."

The President counted innumerable human sacrifices rendered by Pakistain in fight against militancy and extremism.

He said 30,000 innocent civilians along with 5,000 military and coppers laid their lives for the cause of securing their lands from the clutches of beturbanned goon mind-set.

Discussing situation in Afghanistan, the President reiterated that Pakistain supports all efforts for regional peace, prosperity and connectivity, based on existing realities of the region.

The President said Pakistain, being the immediate neighbor has abiding interest in the peace, stability, security and prosperity of Afghanistan and will continue to support every effort in this regard.

He said besides being immediate neighbors, Pakistain and Afghanistan share many issues of similar nature thus making Pakistain affected directly by any development across the border.

He said Pakistain supports Afghan-led and Afghan owned reconciliation process.

Clinton appreciated Pakistain's contribution in promoting reconciliation.

She said that US administration desired continued partnership with Pakistain.

She agreed with the President's strong emphasis on promoting trade rather than aid as the vehicle for development cooperation and assured that the US administration was working to facilitate enhanced market access for Pak products.

Clinton also appreciated the economic reform initiatives taken by Pakistain which involved making difficult decisions and tough choices.

Affirming US continued support for the democracy in Pakistain; she also applauded unanimous resolution adopted by All Parties Conference recently.

#3  Interesting, you're suggesting NATO prepped Libya to receive the Iraq exodus when we give Pak to Turkey? Nice.

A logistics safehaven (outside of SA as they would not allow an army within their boundaries) for the combined forces needed to stabilize the Horn is necessary, with quality oil local. The gulf is also a nice naval staging area outside of Iran's reach.

I expect the Shiek's death was anticipated, but not expected at this juncture (isn't casuality great!). I wonder how strong his alliances were. Will they continue to support this for a stable eastern border?

US demands Pakistan action 'in days and weeks'
The United States called on Pakistain Friday to take action within "days and weeks" on dismantling Afghan krazed killer havens and encouraging the Taliban into peace talks in order to end 10 years of war.
Can they use the Libya calendar for that?
Crucially Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as the Smartest Woman in the World and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Al Haig ...
appeared to extract recognition from Pakistain that it could do more in clamping down on Afghan gunnies allegedly using Pak soil to attack Americans but it offered no details on how.

The top US diplomat spent Friday locked in talks with Pak leaders following a four-hour session late Thursday in neighbouring Afghanistan designed to quicken an end to one of America's longest wars.

Unusually accompanied by CIA director David Petraeus and the top US military officer General Martin Dempsey, she increased pressure on Pakistain to take concrete action but also sought to reassure Islamabad of long-term US support.

"We look to Pakistain to take strong steps to deny Afghan gunnies safe havens and to encourage the Taliban to enter negotiations in good faith," said Clinton after talks with Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar.

The United States was looking for operational action "over the next days and weeks, not months and years, but days and weeks because we have a lot of work to do to realise our shared goals," emphasised Clinton.

Relations between Pakistain and the United States deteriorated dramatically over the May 2 American special forces raid that killed the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now among the dear departed, though not among the dearest...
near Islamabad and US accusations over the September 13 US embassy siege in Kabul.

The then top US military officer, Admiral Mike Mullen, called the krazed killer Haqqani network a "veritable arm" of Pakistain's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and accused its spies of being involved in the embassy siege.

In response, Pak leaders united behind calls to "give peace a chance" but Clinton said that in order to do that, "we have some work to do".

With US and Afghan troops pressing a new offensive against the Haqqani network in eastern Afghanistan, Clinton called on Pakistain to up the pressure on krazed killer safe havens on its side of the border.

"We asked very specifically for greater cooperation from the Pak side to squeeze the Haqqani network and other terrorists...trying to eliminate snuffies and safe havens on one side of the border is not going to work.

"It's like that old story: you can't keep snakes in your backyard and expect them only to bite your neighbours...eventually those snakes are going to turn on whoever has them in the backyard."

Pakistain has so far refused to open a new offensive against the Haqqani network allegedly in its North Wazoo leadership base, arguing that its troops are too overstretched and that the country has already sacrificed too many lives.

"It's not just military action. There is greater sharing of intelligence so we can prevent and intercept the efforts by the Haqqanis or the Taliban to try to cross the border or to plan an attack," said Clinton.

Khar, who attended four hours of talks Thursday involving military, intelligence and civilian leaders from both sides, appeared to give a commitment to do more.

"Do safe havens exist? Yes, they do exist both sides. Do we need to cooperate? Yes. We can cooperate more and achieve better results," said Khar.

Khar denied US accusations that elements within Pakistain's intelligence services support Afghan beturbanned goons.

"There is no question of any support by any Pak institutions to safe havens. Let me be very clear and unequivocal on that," she added.

Later Friday, Clinton was to engage with Pak civil society leaders at a town-hall style forum to be broadcast live on television, where at a similar event two years ago she heard US drone attacks compared to terrorism.

Nuggets from the Urdu press
Dr AQ Khan enters politics?
Famous nuclear scientist and father of Pakistan's bomb Dr AQ Khan stated in Nawa-e-Waqt that a country that cannot make a needle was able to make a nuclear bomb under his guidance. He said he was the hero of Chaghai when he was able to test the Pakistani bomb successfully in 1998. Now he will step into politics with the same stunning effect, he said.

Nawaz Sharif lion who drinks 'lassi'
But give it to him in a dirty glass!
Famous columnist Haroon Rashid wrote in Jang that Nawaz Sharif was an aging lion who drank lassi instead of the meat he was supposed to hunt. Nawaz was not able to come to power under military umbrella and the lassi-drinking lion in him was now old. On the other hand, Imran Khan was a lion that the PMLN did not like and was getting its intellectuals to attack him.

Kulsum Saifullah loves Buddha
Daily Nawa-e-Waqt reported that Kulsum Saifullah in her memoirs has written that Bhutto was the most fiery speaker of the politicians, while she rated Zardari only in connection with Benazir. She thought that PMLN was the only rival the PPP had. She followed the teachings of Buddha only after the Prophet PBUH. She thought highly of Dr AQ Khan and admired General Yahya Khan for his politeness because he got up to receive her.

Naveed Qamar's son embezzles flood funds?
Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt intelligence agencies had sent reports to the government saying that PPP leader Naveed Qamar's son embezzled from funds meant for the relief of flood victims in Sindh. They also reported that in Badin the DCO had spent Rs 20 crores out of a total of Rs 32 crore on meals for the flood victims.

In praise of Dr AQ Khan
Famous columnist Abdul Qadir Hasan wrote in Express that he was hearing rumours that Dr AQ Khan was entering politics. He wished him well because he had supported him at the cost of a very lucrative job and also confronted Musharraf because of him. But he preferred him not entering politics because like Imran Khan the well established elite will not let him get anywhere.

Ch Nisar and sixty thousand 'choozay'
Chief Editor Jinnah asked where did Ch Nisar Ali Khan get the money to establish a poultry farm for 60,000 chicks (choozay) at his estate at Chakri? The cost of this project was Rs 3.5 crore which he must justify on the basis of his tax-paid income. Nawaz Sharif should talk to the patwaris of Rawalpindi to find out the actual financing of the poultry farm.

Questions for Imran Khan
Famous columnist Ataul Haq Qasmi wrote in Jang that he had some questions for Imran Khan whom he admired for his charity work. Why did he join Musharraf, why are corrupt people members of his party, why should he damage the vote bank of PMLN if his own party is not going to win elections? Lastly, Imran Khan was a civilised man, why did he use un-civilised language about other politicians?

Fat poet Adam and Josh
Humorous columnist Ataul Haq Qasmi wrote in Jang that once the great but extremely fat Urdu writer of romantic ghazal, Abdul Hamid Adam, was presented to poet Josh Malihabadi. Adam in Urdu means 'no presence' with an antonym wujud meaning presence. When Adam was presented as Adam, Josh said if this is adam (no presence) then what would wujud be like.

The unspent Rs 5 billion
Daily Nawa-e-Waqt reported that Rs 5 billion Pakistan received as assistance for floods in 2010 was still lying with the federal government unspent while departments responsible for flood relief have been devolved to the provinces under the 18th Amendment.

Quetta Hazaras killed by America!
Chief Editor of Jinnah Khushnood Ali Khan wrote in Jinnah that a busful of the Quetta Hazaras were killed in Mastung while they were going to Iran was not the work of Lashkar Jhangvi but of America who did not want Iran and Pakistan to come close. To block the Iranian gas pipeline it had created problems on the road to Iran so that in future the gas pipeline would not be completed.
Given all America is accused of doing, one would think it wise not to annoy us...
Prof Rabbani killed by America!
Famous chief editor of Jinnah wrote that Prof Burhanuddin Rabbani who was killed in his house in Kabul by a suicide-bomber hiding explosives in his turban was actually killed by the Americans who did not like that he was opposed to American presence in Afghanistan. But the Taliban too were angry with him because in the past he had supported the Americans.

Attackers of GHQ were army deserters
Daily Mashriq reported that the gang of terrorists who had attacked the GHQ in 2009 were all serving military officers and troops who had deserted the army in 2006. They were led by a army official Aqeel Ahmad and attacked the GHQ to avenge army operation in FATA. After a court martial, Aqeel was given death while Imran Khaleeq was given life and Adnan and Tahir got ten years each in jail.

Pakistan gets its Anna Hazare!
Reported by Mashriq Lahore saw its first Anna Hazare when one Jahangir Akhtar went on hunger strike against rampant corruption in Pakistan. He said that if his demands for the ending of corruption are not accepted he was ready to die for his cause.

No revolutions, please!
Pakistan's boy computer genius Ali Moin Nawazish wrote in Jang saying Pakistani leaders should stop recommending 'bloody revolution' for Pakistan since revolutions of that sort have rarely achieved anything in human history. The essay examined the French Revolution and its terror to prove that asking for a revolution was not a wise step for Pakistani politicians.
But kaffir history can't be applied to the the Chosen Religion. Everybody knows that -- except the acknowledged genius.
Taliban thought Rabbani divided them
Reported in Jang the Taliban killed Ustad Burhanuddin Rabbani because they thought that he was dividing them on the question of talks with the US. Rabbani was heading a body trying to establish a dialogue of the stakeholders in Afghanistan to agree on a road map after the Americans left in 2014.

Rabbani and Syed Qutb
Famous columnist Hamid Mir wrote in Jang that he had interviewed Ustad Burhanuddin Rabbani at his home in Kabul and found that he had been educated at Al Azhar University in Egypt and was a votary of Syed Qutb whose works he translated into Persian to spread the spirit of jihad. Al Qaeda too was inspired by Syed Qutb and when he asked Rabbani he answered that the destination was the same but Al Qaeda and his party Jamiat were following different roads.

Iraq
Obama announces Iraq troop pullout by end-2011
[Dawn] President Barack B.O. Obama said Friday all US troops will leave Iraq by the end of the year, ending a long, bloody war after the failure of talks on keeping a small American training force in the country.

After the deaths of more than 4,400 US troops, tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians and the expenditure of hundreds of billions of dollars, Obama said the last American soldier would leave with his head held high.

"Today I can report that, as promised, the rest of our troops in Iraq will come home by the end of the year. After nearly nine years, America's war in Iraq will be over," Obama said at the White House.

"Today, I can say that our troops in Iraq will definitely be home for the holidays," said Obama, who rose to power in opposing the unpopular Iraq war and pledged as a presidential candidate to bring all US troops home.

"The United States is moving forward to a position of strength. The long war in Iraq will come to an end by the end of this year," he said, nearly nine years after president George W. Bush invaded Iraq and ousted Saddam Hussein.

Obama made the announcement after holding a video conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, and the failure of talks between the two sides on keeping a small number of troops in Iraq after the end of 2011.

It also came after his credentials as commander-in-chief, bolstered by the killing of the late Osama bin Laden
... who is no more...
and top Al-Qaeda suspects, were further enhanced by the death Thursday of Moamer Qadaffy
...who single-handedly turned a moderately prosperous kingdom into a dictator's fantasyland...

mission in support of Libyan rebels.

"Just as Iraqis have persevered through war, I'm confident that they can build a future worthy of their history as a cradle of civilization," Obama said, as officials said Iraqi forces were up to the task of ensuring security.

"We'll partner with an Iraq that contributes to regional security and peace, just as we insist that other nations respect Iraq's illusory sovereignty," he said, in an apparent reference to Iraq's neighbor Iran.

Talks on extending the US presence broke down because the two sides were unable to agree on granting legal immunity for American troops who would have stayed in place to help train Iraqi forces and to counter Iran.

Maliki said in a brief statement that he and Obama were agreed on the decision to withdraw all US troops.

"The two points of view of the two leaders were the same, of the necessity of beginning a new phase of strategic relations after carrying out the withdrawal at the specified date at the end of the year," he said.

Despite the disagreement, Obama said US troops will leave Iraq "with their heads held high, proud of their success."

"The transition in Afghanistan is moving forward and our troops are finally coming home," Obama said.

The 39,000 remaining US troops in Iraq must withdraw by the end of the year under an accord between the two countries.

Obama said that he had invited Maliki to visit the White House in December, as the two sides revert to a normal sovereign relationship between two nations.

He also placed the withdrawal from Iraq in the context of efforts to transfer responsibility for security to Afghan forces and the stepped-up US battle against Al-Qaeda in Yemen and Pak tribal areas.

"I would note that the end of war in Iraq reflects a larger transition. The tide of war is receding.

"The drawdown in Iraq allowed us to refocus our fight against Al Qaeda and the chief major victories against its leadership, including Osama bin Laden."

#4  Hey! Can't you see I'm trying to get re-elected here!?!?

The comments by Nouri al-Maliki, a Shiite, made clear that it was Iraq who refused to let the U.S. military remain under the Americans' terms.

"When the Americans asked for immunity, the Iraqi side answered that it was not possible," al-Maliki told reporters in Baghdad.

#6  When the Americans asked for immunity...

Not 'immunity', just first crack at prosecuting. Same Status of Forces agreements we have worldwide. The American military has a pretty good record compared to nearly all other nations in hammering those in its ranks that violate law.

#7  Right, P2k. Point is, BHO is trying to spin this as honorable, glorious, committed, selfless follow-through on a campaign promise, when in fact his plan was exactly the opposite, until SOFA negotiations fell through, and the other guy at the table was rude enough to speak up and remind everyone that the reality was a bit different.

Just sayin. I just enjoy it when reality bites leftists in the ass.

Jihad monument to be unveiled in Indonesia
Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), will officially unveil its jihad monument to commemorate the battle of Surabaya, where many of its members fought as volunteers, in 1945.

NU, which plans to present the monument on Sunday in Surabaya, East Java, hopes it will remind Muslim people of the true meaning of jihad.

Chairman Saiful Chalim of NU's Surabaya branch said that his organization wanted Muslims to understand that the concept of jihad is not merely a war against infidels. Chalim said, "In 1945, NU called on its adult members to perform jihad by joining Indonesian soldiers fighting against the Netherlands and Britain. This monument will be a reminder of our past struggle and the meaning of jihad."
Thanks for explaining the true meaning of jihad, guys.

Hizbullah Congratulates Libya on Overthrowing 'Tyranny'
[An Nahar] Hizbullah on Friday congratulated Libyan revolutionaries on the capture and death of Moammar Qadaffy
...who single-handedly turned a moderately prosperous kingdom into a dictator's fantasyland...
a day earlier on the outskirts of his hometown Sirte.

"Hizbullah congratulates the people of Libya on turning the page on more than four decades of tyrannical rule," read a statement released by the group.

"This people today stands before a historic opportunity ... and must protect its revolution from the greed of powerful nations."

Hizbullah also urged Libya's new leaders to uncover the fate of revered Shiite leader Imam Moussa Sadr, who disappeared in 1978 on a trip to Libya.

Iranian-born Lebanese holy man Sadr, who would be 83 in April, vanished on a trip aimed at negotiating an end to Leb's 1975-1990 civil war.

Relations between Libya and Leb have been at a low point since the holy man's disappearance, which dealt a heavy blow to the Shiite community.

Abdul Moneim al-Honi, a former colonel who took part in the 1969 revolution that brought Qadaffy to power, recently revealed that the Libyan leader had ordered Sadr killed during his visit and that the holy man was buried in the southern region of Sabha.

Leb's foreign ministry will dispatch a delegation tasked with following up the Sadr case to Libya on Sunday, ministry sources told Al-Manar television.

Terror Networks
Nasrallah: Next time, we'll begin with attack on Tel Aviv
Should Israel enter into another war with Leb, Hezbullies will start by attacking Tel Aviv and not north of the country, Hezbullies chief Hassan Nasrallah threatened on Friday, according to Lebanese newspaper Al Akhbar.

The Hezbullies strongman also addressed recent reports of foreign agents operating within the Lebanese terror organization. In a meeting with Hezbullies leaders, Nasrallah admitted that information passed to the CIA and Mossad by three of Hezbullies's members hurt the organization.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
Hezbullies will be able to recover from the incident, he asserted, saying that the organization has the courage necessary to fix mistakes.

A month ago Hezbullies jugged four of its own members on charges of spying for Israel while a fifth decamped, the London-based daily Asharq Alawsat reported.
