#1 I don't see how the USS GUARDIAN can be deemed as "lost" - iff the US Navy-DOD can lift a larger, kaboom-damaged FFG out the water, place it on a barge, + tow it across the open ocean to repair back in CONUS, then the US Navy-DOD can salvage the GUARDIAN.

The only reason not to would be costs factors, not lack of salvage skill or capability.

#2  I don't see how the USS GUARDIAN can be deemed as "lost"

Maybe the Navy is using the same nav charts GUARDIAN was using when it ran aground and now they simply can't find it.

#3 The problem with saving the hull is not the boat, it's the reef under the boat. The recovery of the Cole involved inflatable floats and a Dockwise semisubmersible ship, neither of which is really workable here, unless the recovery cranes can move it cleanly, probably after cutting a great deal of superstructure off of the boat in question.

Strip eveything useful or significant from it, and offer it for sale, where-is, as-is. Cash only.

#4 I wonder if one of the babes was nagivating (mis-spelling intended) / driving?

#5 It's also a good excuse to get rid of a ship the blue-water folks don't really want around.

#6 Mine sweepers, layers and planters make the right people nervous, for all the wrong reasons icky, make them go away, yuck.

Luckily the LCS will have mine-countermeasures module with a sexy helicopter towed sweeper.

No, wait.

#7 Underwater robots, Ship. That way every warship can be a minehunter.

Maybe more than once...

#8 I know good men, the best men, are working on it. All that needed is a kick-ass network solution to solve random activity from the opponents. How hard could it be?

#9 It is hung up on a reef on the Philippines near China. It is indisputably American territory.

F*-ing blow it up. Like really, so everyone in the neighborhood understands what that means.

Line up some submarine launched torpedoes and cruise missiles, a couple carrier air squadrons, and the longer range stuff from the U.S. Air Force. Make it a competition with the winner getting an extra five-billion in R&D money.

Put a time on target window of 15 minutes and watch what happens.
