#2 Whoops, my bad Rome fell in 410 when it was sacked by barbarians.

The Vandals, who till this day get blamed for all sorts of mindless destruction. Actually, the Vandals were tired of being sc***ed over by the ruling class in Rome who kept playing games of intrigue than dealing with reality. The Vandals just brought a serious dose of reality to the pettiness of those who believed they should be in charge.
