#5 Well, you have your communist Kurds (largely from inside Turkey, Russia's been supporting them since the '60s), and the non communist ones , largely from Iraq and Syria. I see this basically as a coat of primer for end stage positions.

True. In the past the Russians Soviets used to hand out weapons (and money) for political reasons. Now, not so much; they want to see terms of payment before delivery.

I think, you have it the wrong way around, Ed. Soviets supported Turkish Kurds and BAATH governments in Iraq & Syria. Whereas USA supported Turkish government and Kurds in Iraq & Syria. So Turkish Kurds became "communists", whereas Iraqi and Syrian became "democrats".
