"His bodyguard was killed in the blast," it said, adding that Durani and his driver were maimed.

Earlier, three civilians were maimed in a mine blast in PD4 of Jalalabad city also on Sunday, local officials confirmed.

Journalists, Reporters Displaced by Surge of Targeted Assassinations, Killings
[KhaamaPress] As the assassinations and liquidations in the country have increased, more specifically by targeting journalists and members of civil society, many of the media workers were forced to leave the country.

Last night, Mukhtar Lashkari, the host of the satirical program "Cactus" on Channel One, left Afghanistan due to security threats against journalists.

In a video posted on social media, Lashkari says he is leaving Afghanistan to protect his life.

the recent assassinations of journalists have caused many Afghan media figures to leave the country either forever or for a while, Lashkari added, that a country without journalists and media is like the "graveyard of information".

"What should we do? Journalists, are the most vulnerable segment of society, mostly under the throes of the opposition without any security protection, and haven’t you heard of what happened to journalists recently" fearing for his life he whined "I am also one of those who decided to live abroad for a while", Lashkari said.Lashkari said that he will return back to Afghanistan and that currently, he should save his life.

On the other hand, Farahnaz Forotan, a political presenter who worked with various TV channels has left Afghanistan due to recent security threats and targeted liquidations of journalists. She confirmed her migration on Twitter that she had taken refuge in La Belle France.

"I went to La Belle France on a long-term visa and am currently in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
," she wrote on her Twitter account", she also emphasized that she did not seek asylum in La Belle France, but sought refuge in the country.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Council of Boskone, Helmuth had turned a paler shade of blue. Star-A-Star had struck again...
Fatemeh Hashim, Editor in Chief of Khaama Press, has also left the country due to security threats against journalists.

Hashem added, that currently journalists, civil society activists, public and prominent political figures are living under extreme disappointing situation.

According to Fatema Hashim, Afghanistan, and especially Kabul city, has recently become a city of terror, and every day "we are evident to a assassination incident", Something that has turned our survival into a "miracle".

"It simply came to our notice that every moment of fear prevents a person from reaching the goal he is about to achieve, but I must survive to achieve all my ideals and goals," Hashim added.

Last week, RFE\RL (Radio Azadi) correspondent Nusrat Parsa has also left Afghanistan for Turkey due to targeted liquidations and security threats.

He also stated that the reason for his departure from Afghanistan was due to security threats to the lives of journalists, "I fled the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Afghanistan," he wrote on his Facebook page, escape is also part of the struggle, "I left Afghanistan to survive.".

Reports indicate many journalists and media activists have left the country, either temporarily or permanently, following the rage and escalation in assassinations of journalists and members of civil society.

In the past two months, several journalists and media workers in the country have been killed by unidentified button men or by magnetic mines, some were also suspiciously announced dead.

Two months ago, Amrullah Saleh, the first vice president, wrote on his Facebook page that the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
had decided to target Afghan journalists, members of civil society in order to put pressure on the government.

Just a few days after Saleh’s remarks, a wave of assassinations on journalists, members of civil society, and women’s rights activists began.

In less than two months more than a dozen journalists, civil society activists, and women’s rights activists were assassinated.

But the Taliban have never grabbed credit such actions.

Following the international community’s strong criticism of the recent assassinations, the Taliban issued a statement completely denying their involvement in the attacks, and besides the turban group condemned the killings of journalists, members of civil society, and civilians.
Oh dear. Who ought we believe?

Shaboobs kill Djibouti soldier a day after raid on Æthiop camp
[Garowe] MOGADISHU, Somalia - Al-Shabaab militants have yet again claimed to have raided Djiboutian army bases in Somalia, killing a peacekeeping mission soldier, in yet another attack targeting security forces in the Horn of Africa nation, which has struggled with instability for a couple of years.
American forces have strict ROE. I'm not sure about the Djiboutians, and the Shaboobs might want to be careful here...
Reports indicate that the militants raided the troops serving under AMISOM serving in Bula-Burde and Jalalaqsi in the Hiran region, which falls under the command of the Djiboutian troops, who have been part of the mission for a couple of years, and who are stationed in Central Somalia.

The overnight attack, Al-Shabaab claimed, also left one soldier seriously wounded besides destroying several artillery equipment used by the defense forces. The reports are yet to be confirmed by the AMISOM team which is under the command of Lt. General Diomede from Burundi.

Djiboutian troops serving in Somalia just like their colleagues in AMISOM have often come under attack from the Al-Shabaab which has been fighting to topple the fragile UN-backed Somalia administration. Djibouti has close to 3,000 soldiers serving in the country.

Africa Subsaharan
KDF forces ambush Al-Shabaab in Mandera
If you're like me you're wondering where Mandera is. But then, you're pro'ly not like me...
Mandera was busy in our archives a year ago, but either the action moved elsewhere or we just lost track.
So Mandera is the capital of Mandera County in the former North Eastern Province of Kenya, near the borders with Somalia and Ethiopia. Population is about 87K, all ethnic Somalis of the Garre clan. Its location allows Somalis to attack either Kenya or Ethiopia. So it's mostly green-on-green.
[Garowe] MANDERA, Kenya - The Kenya Defense Forces [KDF] troops on Saturday ambushed Al-Shabaab militants in Mandera North Constituency just days after Governor Ali Roba called for reinforcement from the national government over Al-Shabaab resurgence in the region.

Reports indicate that the troops killed one of the militants besides capturing another in an encounter that lasted for several minutes in the porous region. The operation took place between Guticha and Olla village in Mandera North according to reports.

After the incident, the Special Forces displayed the body of the militant and the man who was arrested for photo taking session. The captive will now be subjected to military court for trial, which is often done in high secrecy in accordance with KDF regulations.

The northeastern part of Kenya has been struggling with the Al-Shabaab threat for several years now and efforts to defeat the militants seem to have hit a snug. The militants, Governor Roba said, have taken charge of close to 60 percent of Mandera's landmass, adding that there is a need for urgent government intervention.

But Nairobi refuted claims by Roba, arguing that the terror threat has been significantly reduced by the authorities, given the fewer cases of terrorism last year. The government insists that the activities of Al-Shabaab in Wajir, Mandera, and Garissa have been thwarted.

Currently, there is a team of the Special Forces working in the region, with some operating from various Forward Operating Bases, including the recently launched Modika Barracks in Garissa. The station gives cover-up for the KDF soldiers working in Somalia.

Arabia
New Islamic group claims Jan. 23rd drone attack in Riyadh
[SouthFront] An armed group calling itself the Righteous Promise Brigades [Alwiyat Al Wa’ad Al Haq] has claimed responsibility for the recent attack on the Saudi capital of Riyadh.

In a statement released late on January 23, the group said it had attacked Riyadh with a number of kamikaze drones. According to the group, the attack targeted several positions in the Saudi capital including the Al Yamamah Palace, the official residence and office of the King of Saudi Arabia and the seat of the royal court.

Early on January 23, the Saudi-led coalition announced the interception of a hostile aerial object over Riyadh, holding the Houthis responsible. The Yemeni group, however, denied responsibility for the attack.

The Righteous Promise Brigades said the attack on Riyadh was a response to the January 21 Baghdad bombings, which claimed the lives of 34 people. The attack was carried out by ISIS, which receives support from Saudi Arabia, according to the group.
It sounds like this group is yet another Iranian sockpuppet.

Houthis capture mountain chain near Soddy border
[SouthFront] The Houthis (Ansar Allah) have recaptured the al-Mutabiq mountain chain on the border with the southern Saudi province of Najran from Saudi-backed forces.

On January 24, the Yemeni group released footage of its large-scale attack on the mountain chain. The footage shows Houthi fighters advancing in the mountain chain area as they clash with Saudi-led coalition proxies.

During the attack, the Houthis destroyed several vehicles of Saudi-backed forces with anti-tank guided missiles, rocket-propelled grenades and recoilless rifles.

Caribbean-Latin America
19 burned bodies found near Mexico-US border town
[ABCNEWS.GO] Mexican authorities say they have found 19 shot and burned bodies near a town across the Rio Grande from Texas in an area that has seen violent mostly peaceful territorial disputes between organized crime groups in recent years. The Tamaulipas state prosecutor’s office said late Saturday that the bodies were discovered along a dirt road outside Camargo after residents reported a burning vehicle. Authorities found two vehicles on fire, one containing four bodies and the other 15. Some rifles were also found.

All had been shot, but shells were not found at the site, leading Sherlocks to believe they were killed somewhere else.

A Camargo official, who requested anonymity due to security concerns, said the killings occurred Friday, but people had been afraid to report them.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, Bossy had come up with a new idea, one that didn't involve kerosene...
in Guatemala, rumors swirled Sunday that Guatemalan migrants colonists were among the dead.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement that Guatemala's embassy in Mexico and consulate in Monterrey were communicating with state and federal authorities "to determine if among the victims is any person of Guatemalan nationality." It said they had activated consular aid protocols.

Camargo is a major smuggling transit point for drugs and migrants colonists. Organized crime groups covet control of stretches of the border because they make money off everything that crosses the border.

IED Explosion Reported at Los Angeles Church That Was Recently Criticized for ‘Anti-LGBT' Language by Southern Poverty Law Center
Here is your Domestic Terrorism, but it is the Democrat/Socialist/Communist (hereby known as IngSoc) approved kind.
It seems fair to assume this was Antifa/BLM or a group sympathetic to them, which puts them under Fifth Column.
It would also be fair to assume that this was the work of a seriously mentally-disturbed person, but we mods are repeating ourselves...
[Gateway Pundit] The El Monte Police Department and FBI officials are investigating an explosion and vandalism at a Los Angeles church that was recently criticized for "anti-LGBT language."

The First Works Baptist Church is part of a network of churches that have been criticized by the far-left extremists at the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Police Chief David Reynoso said the incident took place overnight on Saturday and that they believe the explosion was from an "improvised explosive device."

Obscenities and the words "get out" were also found spray-painted on the front of the church.

Bruce Mejia, the pastor of First Works, said that they had reported an arson threat they received on social media two weeks ago to police. A protest was also planned for the morning after the explosion, but was cancelled due to the bombing.

Washington city's mayor rushed to safety after homeless-advocate rioters storm City Hall
[FoxNews] The mayor of Bellingham, Wash., reportedly had to be rushed out of City Hall on Friday morning after rioters advocating for the homeless stormed the building.

"It was unsettling," Mayor Seth Fleetwood (D), who remained undeterred about asking those in a homeless encampment outside of the building to move 25 feet away, told KIRO-TV of Seattle.

"They banged on the door and we got word they had somehow broken it open and were entering, and I was advised to leave."

He was taken out the back door to his car, the station reported. Fleetwood said he couldn’t help comparing it to the rioters who breached the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6.

The rioters also spray painted the outside of the building, the Bellingham Herald reported.

Bellingham Police told the Herald around 20 rioters got inside the lobby but no damage was done and no one was hurt.

The Herald reported that those who breached City Hall left without incident and no arrests were made.

Bellingham is a college town about 88 miles north of Seattle, which has been a center for anti-police protests and riots since last spring, including an anti-Biden riot on Inauguration Day that left damage at Pike Place Market.

The group that attacked Bellingham's City Hall also pulled down an American flag that was flying outside the building and began stomping on it. Someone was able to save the flag from the rioters, KIRO reported.

Twitter Suspends Antifa-Linked Accounts Following Inauguration Day Riots
[Newsmax] Twitter has suspended antifa-linked accounts with more than 71,000 followers after Inauguration Day riots in Seattle and Portland that targeted the Democratic Party

The accounts linked to the turban far-left antifa that were suspended included @JewishWorker, @RevAbolition, @RevAbolitionNYC and @TheBaseBK, Andy Ngo of the conservative blog The Post Millennial reported.

Ngo characterized TheBaseBK, a self-described anarchist political center, as an ''extremist bookstore in Brooklyn, NY that has been used as an antifa training center.''

The move comes after rioters smashed windows, dragged dumpsters into the streets and set them afire and defaced the Democratic Party headquarters Portland, local CBS television affiliate KOIN reported. Eight people were arrested.

Two others were arrested in Seattle, where rioters smashed windows of several businesses, including a Starbucks restaurant.

Inauguration Day Protests in Portland, Seattle Turned Violent

[WSJ] Police in Portland, Ore., and Seattle arrested more than a dozen people Wednesday after Inauguration Day protests led to the vandalizing of immigration offices and other buildings in both cities.

Protesters chanted anti-law-enforcement sentiments in a revival of last summer’s left-wing protests that broke out after the killing of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis. Much of their ire appeared aimed at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, or ICE.

In Seattle, protesters burned American flags on the street, and a group chanted "No cops! No prisons! Total abolition!," according to a video verified by research firm Storyful, which is owned by News Corp , the parent company of The Wall Street Journal.

Police across the country had been on high alert following the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, and amid lingering fears thon the lam groups of armed protesters might mobilize around state capitols. No major protests materialized there.

In Seattle, police said a group of marchers dressed mostly in black lighted a large American flag on fire in an intersection not far from a federal immigration court. The people also tore plywood coverings off windows that they then smashed, police said. Among the buildings damaged were the William Kenzo Nakamura federal courthouse and the Starbucks in the Pike Place Market.

Israeli Warplanes Overfly Most Lebanese Regions
[AnNahar] Israeli warplanes on Sunday violated Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...

Over the capital, two fighter jets were heard and seen flying at medium and high altitudes.

The National News Agency meanwhile reported that Israeli warplanes overflew the southern regions of Hasbaya, al-Orqoub, Sidon and Jezzine at low altitude.

The jets also overflew the heights of Mount Hermon and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

TV networks also reported that the warplanes overflew Lebanon’s eastern and western mountain ranges at medium altitude.

Israel has recently intensified low-altitude warplane missions in Lebanese skies, causing jitters among residents and prompting Lebanon to file an urgent complaint to the U.N.

#7  To my knowlege, .50 cal can't be used with the US armed forces ROE as an 'anti-personnel' round, so good for the Brits!

#9  @ #7: The ROE for 50 BMG is it's an anti-vehicle weapon in a machine gun, but usable for personel in a single shot, which a Barrett is.
If you use a M2 BMG to shoot a person, you have to fill out a form that it was a mistake and you weren't aiming at him. No kidding.

#10  Sounds like he wasn't aiming at the person, just the vest. So all's good right?

#13  Wasn't one from when he shot at a cliff wall and a stone came back and hit him on the arm?

I don't think he had an re-enactment of that for his home movie collection.
