FBI and DHS Are Monitoring Gamers for Signs of ‘Extremism'
[Breitbart] Claiming it is targeting the growing threat of violent extremism, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have established mechanisms to share information and coordinate with gaming companies and social media platforms, according to a recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) report.

The Intercept reports that the report, which covers the period from September 2022 to January 2024, reveals that federal agencies have been working closely with gaming and social media companies to identify and address online activities promoting domestic violent extremism or violating the companies’ terms of service. This collaboration allegedly aims to counter the spread of extremist ideologies and prevent radicalization on these platforms.

According to the GAO, the FBI and DHS have set up channels for receiving tips and information from gaming companies about potential law-breaking and extremist views. The FBI conducts briefings to gaming companies on perceived threats, while the DHS intelligence office holds meetings where companies can share information about online activities related to domestic violent extremism.

The report highlights the growing concern within the federal government regarding the use of gaming platforms and social media by extremist groups for recruitment, communication, and spreading their ideologies. The Biden administration’s national strategy for combating domestic terrorism, released in June 2021, specifically mentions “online gaming platforms” as potential avenues for “recruiting and mobilizing individuals to domestic terrorism.”

However, the GAO warns that the FBI and DHS lack an overarching strategy to align their work with gaming companies with their broader agency missions. Without a comprehensive plan, the agencies may struggle to assess the effectiveness of their communications and information-sharing mechanisms in achieving their overall objectives.

The collaboration between government agencies and gaming companies has also raised concerns about constitutional and legal issues surrounding free speech rights. The GAO report notes that both the FBI and DHS are proceeding cautiously in light of ongoing federal litigation, including a case on its way to the Supreme Court.

In 2022, a federal judge prohibited the FBI, DHS, and other federal agencies from communicating with social media companies to fight what they consider misinformation, following a lawsuit brought by attorneys general in Missouri and Louisiana.

MV Abdullah anchored in Somalia’s Hobyo port
14/03/2024
[ShabelleMedia] Bangladeshi vessel MV Abdullah which was hijacked by Somali pirates with 23 crew on board anchored at Hobyo port in Somalia on Thursday, said Director General of the Department of Shipping Commodore Mohammad Maksud Alam.

MV Abdullah anchored around 2 pm at Hobyo port, he said adding "However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
none of the pirates has contacted the owners and made any demand to them."

He also assumed that the pirates would contact Bangladesh authorities soon.

On Tuesday, pirates took control of the ship, carrying coal from Mozambique’s Maputo port to Al Hamriyah Port in the UAE, around noon.

During the hijacking, the vessel was 600 nautical miles off Mogadishu in Somalia.

MV Abdullah is owned by SR Shipping Lines — a sister company of Chattogram-based Kabir Steel and Rerolling Mill (KSRM) Group.

Mizanul Islam, spokesperson of KSRM, said they have heard that the vessel anchored at Somalia port but the pirates have not communicated yet.

Paris Club Creditors cancel 99% of Somalia’s debt
14/03/2024
[ShabelleMedia] The Gay Paree Club of Creditors has reached an agreement with the government of Somalia that will result in the cancellation of up to $2 billion of the country’s debt- approximately 99% of the debt owed by the country to the group.

This was disclosed in a statement from the group yesterday where it stated it will forgive the country’s nominal debt of $1.2 billion under the Enhanced HIPC Initiative framework.

The move comes following Somalia’s completion of the Enhanced Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (Enhanced HIPC) Initiative of the IMF where the country was exiled from the international financial system for about 30 years.

What the club is saying is,

  • "To contribute to restoring the debt sustainability of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Gay Paree Club creditors committed to cancel USD 1.2 billion in nominal terms under the Enhanced HIPC Initiative framework. Creditors welcomed and supported the commitment of the Federal Republic of Somalia to seek treatment at least as favourable from all its other official bilateral and external commercial creditors."

  • "In addition, Gay Paree Club creditors confirmed their willingness to grant additional debt cancellation on a voluntary and bilateral basis for an amount of USD 815 million."

  • "The Gay Paree Club consensus and the expected additional bilateral efforts would result in a reduction of more than USD 2.0 billion, representing 99% of the debt of the Federal Republic of Somalia owed to Gay Paree Club members as of January 2023."

Furthermore, the club welcomed Somalia’s commitment to poverty eradication, education, and health reforms to create a foundation for sustainable economic growth.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
The Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative was launched in 1996 and during that period has canceled debt to the tune of $120 billion for 36 out of 39 qualified countries. Somalia is the 37th country to benefit from the initiative.

The $2.0 debt cancellation for Somalia represents over 50% of the country’s public external debt of $3.8 billion. The reorganization of Somalia’s debt was facilitated by representatives from Belgium, Denmark, La Belle France, Germany, Italia, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, the Russian Federation, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America with the European Commission, AfDB, and OECD as observers.

US targets Al-Shabaab fundraisers, money launderers with sanctions
12/03/2024
[ShabelleMedia] The US Department of the Treasury on Monday imposed sanctions on what it said was an international fundraising and money-laundering network for the Al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
holy warrior group operating in Somalia.

The sanctions targeted 16 entities and individuals across the Horn of Africa region, the United Arab Emirates, and Cyprus, the Treasury said in a statement.

The action, which follows US sanctions against a separate network linked to al-Shabaab in October 2022, freezes any US assets of those targeted and generally bars Americans from dealing with them.

It said Al-Shabaab, which Washington considers a terrorist group, generates over $100 million a year, including by extorting local businesses.

Al-Shabaab, linked to Al Qaeda, has been waging an insurgency against the Somali government since 2006 in a bid to establish its own rule based on a strict interpretation of Islamic Sharia law.

"The threat posed by al-Shabaab is not limited to Somalia," State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a statement.

"Al-Shabaab’s revenues are disbursed to other al-Qa’ida-linked groups worldwide and help fund al-Qa’ida’s global ambitions to commit acts of terrorism and undermine good governance."

Ethiopian troops control 60% of Somalia, says General Birhanu Jula
10/03/2024
[ShabelleMedia] The commander of the Æthiopian Defense Forces, General Birhanu Jula, who gave an interview to the government TV, said that the Æthiopian military is in control of 60% of Somalia, and if they leave, the federal government cannot stay in Mogadishu.
Interesting.
He said that Æthiopian forces are the backbone of Somalia’s security, and they are also protecting al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
from taking over the city of Mogadishu.

General Birhanu Jula was deployed three times in Somalia as the leader of the Æthiopian forces from 2007 to 2009, and the places he worked in were Bay, Bakol, and Galgadud regions where he stayed from 2010 to 2013.

Speaking to ENTV, Æthiopia’s national TV, he pointed out that the Somali government is dependent on its country’s army, which is present in many regions, adding that Æthiopia has shed a lot of blood, and many soldiers have died in Somalia fighting al-Shabaab.

The statement of General Birhanu Jula comes at a time of conflict and tension arising from the maritime agreement between Æthiopia and the Somaliland
...Republic of Somaliland is an unrecognised sovereign state in the Horn of Africa, recognised internationally as a de jure part of Somalia. It is located in the southern coast of the Gulf of Aden with approximately 5.7 million residents as of 2021. The capital and largest city is Hargeisa. The government regards itself as the successor state to British Somaliland, which united from 1960 to 1991 with the Trust Territory of Somaliland (the former Italian Somaliland) to form the Somali Republic. Under the Siad Barre regime, Somaliadestroyed ninety percent of Hargeisa Per international law, once you're in, you gotta stay in, no matter how bad it smells....
administration on January 1 of this year, and President Hassan Sheikh refused to discuss this maritime case with Abiy Ahmed, who requested a meeting several times.

The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
, the UK’s Telegraph newspaper reported on Thursday, citing unnamed sources.

According to the report, the ships unload weapons in the Syrian port of Latakia, which are then taken south into Hezbollah’s native Lebanon. From Latakia, the ships continue to ports in Italia, Spain and Belgium to help conceal the goal of the trips.

"Using Europe helps to hide the nature and the source of the shipments, switching paperwork and containers... to clean the shipments," the paper cited a senior Israeli intelligence source as saying,

"Europe has huge ports so Iran is using that as a camouflage. It’s very easy to do manipulations in those big ports where things have to get moved quickly, rather than a small port where there will be more scrutiny."

Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily basis, causing loss of life and widespread damage, with the group saying it is doing so to support Gazoo

amid the war there. Border communities have been largely evacuated for long months amid the ongoing attacks.

Intelligence analyst Ronen Solomon told the Telegraph that the sea shipments were a recent occurrence from "the last month" because of "Israeli attacks on air and land infrastructure in Syria to Lebanon, so we are seeing an increase in container shipments."

Although Israel has struck Iran-linked targets in Syria for years, including areas where Hezbollah has been active, Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s against Iranian arms transfers have become deadlier and more frequent since October 7, Rooters cited unnamed Syrian intelligence sources as saying in January.

In December 2021, the Latakia port was hit twice by airstrikes targeting Iranian munitions en route to Hezbollah. Though Israel did not officially acknowledge conducting either attack, hours after the second one then-Defense Minister Benny Gantz warned Iran against sending arms to the region.

Hezbollah has named more than 240 members who have been killed by Israel since October 8. Another 40 operatives from other terror groups have also been killed in strikes on southern Lebanon, as well as a Lebanese soldier and at least 30 civilians, three of whom were journalists.

The near-daily exchanges of fire along the shared Israel-Lebanon border have caused seven civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of 10 Israeli soldiers and reservists.

Mediators have thus far been unsuccessful in reaching an agreement between Israel and the Lebanese terrorist group, fueling fears of an all-out war on Israel’s northern border, and preventing the return home of the roughly 60,000 residents who have been displaced from northern Israel since October.

Israel has said it will no longer tolerate Hezbollah’s presence along its border and is demanding it be made to honor the 2006 UN resolution that ended the Second Lebanon War and withdraw to a distance of several kilometers from the border.

Fifth Column
‘We Should Salute Them': Hezbollah Leader Expresses Gratitude for American Anti-Israel Activists
[Algemeiner] Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Wednesday praised Americans who are putting pressure on US President Joe Biden to limit support for Israel because they are helping the Lebanese terrorist group’s cause.

“Today, what many people demonstrating in America are doing … Of course, we should salute them and be grateful to them,” Nasrallah said in remarks translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

In his speech, the terrorist leader highlighted the importance in his view of anti-Israel activism in the US.

Nasrallah went on to praise Democrats in America who are threatening not to vote for Biden in this year’s US presidential election due to his support for Israel in its war against the Hamas terrorist group in Gaza.

“The Arabs, the Muslims, and the non-Muslims, from among the other free Americans — Christians and others — in the Democratic Party who wrote to Biden: ‘We are uncommitted to vote for you.’ These people are very influential at this stage,” Nasrallah said.

These Americans are so important, Nasrallah explained, because Biden “is not afraid of the world, the international community, God, history, or anything. Biden now is afraid of one thing only — that his policy and actions in Gaza will lead him to lose the presidential elections. This is why he keeps debating, denying, and playing games.”

More than that, Nasrallah seemed to see an opening to help his cause, saying, “If the pressure and opposition [to Biden] in America continues, this may also open a door for hope.”

Both Hamas and Hezbollah are backed by Iran, which provides the Islamist terrorist groups with arms, funds, and training.

In its 1985 manifesto, Hezbollah wrote, “Our struggle will end only when this entity [Israel] is obliterated. We recognize no treaty with it, no cease fire, and no peace agreements, whether separate or consolidated.”

The terror group’s praise for American anti-Israel activists comes amid rising pressure in the US from segments of the Muslim community, the far left, and increasingly the mainstream left on Biden to lessen his support for Israel.

Nasrallah has not been the only voice calling for pro-Hamas and anti-Israel voices in the US to oppose Biden politically.

The day before the Democratic Party’s presidential primary in Michigan last month, Nihad Awad, the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) delivered an address in which he called on voters to cast their ballots against the incumbent president.

“Our message [to Biden] is as follows: ‘Allah willing, our votes will make you lose the presidency,'” Awad said in remakrs flagged by MEMRI. “It is [also] a message to [the Democratic] Party: ‘You went too far, you listened to him, and did not draw the line, so you will lose the presidency.'”

US Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) supported the “uncommitted” campaign against Biden in Michigan and, when asked in late February, she refused to say whether she would vote for Biden in November. Tlaib has accused Biden of supporting a “genocide” against Palestinians by supporting Israel’s right to defend itself by targeting Hamas in Gaza following the terror group’s Oct. 7 massacre across southern Israel.

Recent letters from Democratic lawmakers to Biden include demands to cut off aid to Israel if it proceeds with its operation in Rafah — which is Hamas’ last stronghold in Gaza. Recent polls also show that a majority of young Americans think the Hamas atrocities of Oct. 7 were justified and believe Israel should “be ended and given to Hamas and the Palestinians.”

, prosecutors said.

The November 16 protest came as San Francisco was hosting President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. We get to suffer the consequences...
and other world leaders for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. Protesters calling for a ceasefire have also blocked major roadways in cities including Los Angeles, New York, Boston and Philadelphia.

"This is a victory not only for those exercising their right to protest a genocide being fueled by their tax dollars, but for the growing global movement demanding freedom for the Paleostinian people," Aisha Nizar, one of the protesters, said in a news release. "We emerge from this case even stronger and more united in our commitment to one another and to the people of Paleostine."

About 200 protesters participated in the San Francisco demonstration during the global trade summit, and they blocked all lanes of traffic into San Francisco on the bridge’s upper deck, with some drivers tossing their keys into the bay. Eighty people were arrested, and 29 vehicles were towed. Protesters demanded that Biden call for an immediate ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas.

The 80 suspects faced charges of false imprisonment, refusing to comply with a peace officer, unlawful public assembly, refusing to disperse, and obstruction of a street, sidewalk or other place open to the public. Prosecutors dropped one case for insufficient evidence, and another person declined the court’s offer for a pre-trial diversion program.

The remaining 78 accepted the court’s offer, which includes each person paying a to-be-determined restitution amount to someone who needed to be evacuated from the bridge, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

"We remain committed to ensuring that San Francisco is safe for everyone who lives and enters our city," District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said in a statement. "We will continue to ensure that appropriate avenues for the expression of free speech and social advocacy exist and are protected in San Francisco. I truly believe that we can achieve engaging in free expression while maintaining the safety of our communities."

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors in January approved a resolution calling for an extended ceasefire in Gaza that condemned Hamas as well as the Israeli government and urged the Biden administration to press for the release of all hostages and delivery of humanitarian aid. Dozens of other US cities have approved similar resolutions that have no legal authority but reflect pressure on local governments to speak up on the Israel-Hamas war.

First ship to use new sea route arrives in Gaza with 200 tons of humanitarian aid

on Friday, witnesses said, in a test run for a new aid route by sea from Cyprus to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the enclave five months into the war between Israel and Hamas
...one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede,...
The ship, arranged by the World Central Kitchen (WCK) charity, is carrying nearly 200 tons of aid to be delivered via a jetty being prepared in Gaza, with a second ship expected to sail soon.

Floating on a barge attached by rope to a salvage ship, rough seas appeared to slow down the cargo reaching land, footage posted by a WCK official on social media showed.

WCK have been constructing a makeshift jetty which would allow the flat-bottomed barge to approach Gaza’s shallow waters for lack of proper port infrastructure.

"So far 2 crates already delivered from the barge," WCK founder Jose Andres, a Michelin-starred chef, said in a post on X. "But still more to do next few (h)ours."

There are few details on how the aid delivery and distribution will work once it is ready to unload in Gaza, with UN relief agencies having described huge obstacles to getting relief supplies to those in need.

Israel has been under increasing pressure to allow more aid into Gaza. The United States has joined other countries in airdropping supplies to the isolated region of northern Gaza and has announced separate plans to construct a pier to get aid in.

city of Rafah — a stick Jerusalem continues to hold over the terror group in efforts to reach a hostage release.

Israel has said Rafah, where four Hamas battalions are deployed, remains Hamas’s last major stronghold in the Strip after the IDF operated in the north and center of the Paleostinian enclave. It has said an offensive there is necessary to achieve the war’s goals and is not a question of "if" but "when."

The plan has caused intense consternation in the international community, including from the US and Egypt, due to Rafah now hosting over a million displaced Paleostinians from elsewhere in Gaza. Israel has said it is making plans to evacuate and protect civilians as part of its offensive plans.

After a war cabinet meeting on Friday, the prime minister rejected the latest proposal put forward by Hamas, saying its demands "are still absurd."

urged worshipers to ’defend al-Aqsa’; Islamic Waqf estimates 80,000 people took part

Tens of thousands of Moslem worshipers took part in the first Friday prayers of Ramadan on the Temple Mount, and the prayers ended without incident, police said.

The Islamic Waqf, which administers the mosque compound, estimated that 80,000 people took part in the prayers. There was no immediate outside confirmation of those numbers.

More than 3,000 coppers and Border Police soldiers were deployed across the Old City of Jerusalem ahead of the prayers amid fears of disturbances, after the Hamas terror group had called on Paleostinian worshipers to barricade themselves inside the al-Aqsa Mosque.

However,

a police statement said there were no "unusual" incidents.

Amid the expanded police presence, Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai, Jerusalem district commanders and Shin Bet security officials visited several command posts set up in the Old City and received real-time updates on the situation.

In a statement Thursday, Hamas had called on followers to "participate urgently in defending al-Aqsa Mosque against the aggression that lurks in these critical times."

In past years during Ramadan, Paleostinians have at times barricaded themselves inside the al-Aqsa Mosque, which is situated on the Temple Mount, some with explosives and rocks. Police operations to clear them out have often resulted in violence.

Last year, two consecutive nights of festivities between officers and Paleostinians at the mosque sparked barrages of rocket fire from Leb

, leaders from the two Paleostinian Islamist terror groups, as well as the Marxist Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, held an "important meeting" with Houthi representatives last week.

The groups discussed "mechanisms to coordinate their actions of resistance" for the "next stage" of the war in Gaza, the sources say without identifying where the meeting took place.

The Paleostinian groups and the Houthis also talked about a possible Israeli ground assault into southern Gaza’s Rafah, say the sources, who requested anonymity.

The Houthis confirmed they would continue their attacks on Red Sea shipping to "support the Paleostinian resistance," according to the Hamas and Islamic Jihad sources.
