'Please help me': Heartbreaking moment woman pleads with fellow NYC subway passengers to intervene as thug randomly assaults her - but they walk away
[MAIL] A shocking video shows the moments a woman riding a New York City subway pleads with passengers to help her as she is assaulted by a thug as other riders appear to ignore her pleas.

In the video, taken on Wednesday and posted on Daily Dot, the hoodlum is seen dressed in black leggings, a white cropped zippered hoodie and white sneakers, storms around the train car while screaming expletives.

After the frenzied fit the person sits down as many of the passengers rush to another area of the train. As one female passenger, closest to the hoodlum, tries to flee, the thug grabs her and terrorizes the victim.

#2  What gets rewarded gets repeated.

The authorities condone and thereby reward this behavior. So do those who live there.

Growing up I witnessed my father quietly tell a man who'd casually backhanded his wife, my stepmother's sister, "If you ever do that again I will lay you on the ground, and you will not easily get up again."

If we do not demand civilized behavior we will live amid threatening beasts.

Oops – Gibson's Bakery Seeks To Execute On $36 Million Appeal Bond Since Oberlin College Failed To Obtain Stay Of Appeals Court Mandate
[LI] Motion filed in trial court today: "If Defendants wanted to stay execution of the mandate of the Ninth District Court of Appeals, they were required to seek that stay in the Ohio Supreme Court. They did not. Plaintiffs are entitled to judgment on the surety bond ...."

As posted recently, Oberlin College is seeking to have the Ohio Supreme Court hear an appeal from the massive $32 million judgment entered after jury trial in the Lorain County Court of Common Pleas as affirmed by the 9th District Court of Appeals.

There has been an appeal bond in place since trial issued by Zurich American Insurance Company securing the judgment plus future interest in the amount of $36 million, as a condition of a stay of judgment issued by the trial court.

In the Court of Appeals decision, the court noted on the very last page something that didn’t mean much to me at the time (emphasis added):

We order that a special mandate issue out of this Court, directing the Court of Common Pleas, County of Lorain, State of Ohio, to carry this judgment into execution. A certified copy of this journal entry shall constitute the mandate, pursuant to App.R. 27.

It does not appear that Oberlin College sought a stay of that mandate pending appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court. The Gibsons have just filed a Motion to Enter Judgment Against Surety Zurich American Insurance Company in the trial court arguing, in part:

Plaintiffs Gibson Bros., Inc. and Lorna J. Gibson, as the executor and representative of the Estate of David R. Gibson and the Estate of Allyn W. Gibson ( collectively "the Gibsons") respectfully request that this Honorable Court enter judgment against the surety Zurich American Insurance Company, Bond No. 9280167 in the amount of $36,127,181.25 plus $4,331.19 per diem from the date of filing. A chart calculating the judgment per diem is attached for the Court’s convenience as Exhibit 1. There is no valid stay of execution of judgment remaining, and the Gibsons are entitled to judgment in accordance with the mandate from the Ninth District Court of Appeals.

#1  I wonder if someone at Oberlin decided that letting the case end by accidental payment of a bond, rather than outright losing, saves face and allows for bluster and phony accusations, all the while making the repayments necessary to end the issue?
This way no one "lost" the case, so no one who made the false accusations gets fired, messy problem solved,

NYC Has Tips For Junkies On Safe, Empowering … Intravenous Drug Use
[WIRE] New York City health officials sparked backlash with a series of public health signs posted around the city’s subway system encouraging intravenous drug users to be "empowered" — not by getting clean, but by taking steps to "use safely."

NYC Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli shared a photo of one of the signs on Twitter, which read, "Don’t be ashamed you are using. Be empowered that you are using safely."

The sign included a number of "helpful" tips for those who wanted to "use safely."

Under the section labeled "What is fentanyl?" the description read, "Fentanyl is a powerful opioid that can be found in heroin, cocaine, crack, methamphetamine, ketamine, and pressed pills."

A second section answered the question, "Why is it dangerous?" by saying, "Fentanyl increases the risk of overdose, especially among people who do not regularly use opioids."

The final section listed several steps that users could take in an effort to "empower" themselves to "use safely" and "prevent overdose."

'Good Gal With a Gun' Saves Many Lives in What Could Have Been Mass Casualty Event
[Red State] There are a lot of questions being raised now about the police response to the Uvalde mass shooter. Even Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is saying he was misled by the police about the timeline of what occurred, that they hadn’t told him that they had waited for an hour-and-15-minutes from the time an officer first arrived on the scene until they killed the shooter.

You did have heroic people, like CBP agent Jacob Albarado, who raced into the school with some other agents and helped to get out not only his own daughter but dozens of other children. Albarado urged people to allow teachers to be trained and carry, to be able to defend themselves and their students. It’s not hard to think of how different things might have been had that been the case.

Indeed, we can look to a case that just happened in Charleston, West Virginia, on Wednesday night.

Dennis Butler, 37, was warned about speeding near a party where children were present in an apartment complex. Then Butler reportedly returned with an AR-15 and began shooting. It was a recipe for a disaster; there were dozens of people at the party and a lot of people could have been hurt or killed. But a woman who was a guest at the party was lawfully carrying a pistol. She pulled it, fired, and took down Butler. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and later died.

"Instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat and saved several lives last night," Charleston Police Lieutenant Tony Hazelett confirmed. "She was lawfully carrying a firearm and stopped a threat. There was a graduation party and a party with kids so obviously someone just graduated high school and we could have had a casualty shooting."

The US sees an increase in Mass shootings at schools, big stores and Malls.

Police arrive and are told to stand-down for extended period of time. eg. Parkland, Sandy, etc...

#3  From a retired police officer and friend:

There has been a concerted action in the past decade or so in LE to make cops more socially "acceptable". Programs like COP (Community Oriented Policing) and "Coffee with a Cop" come to mind. That and the efforts to be "inclusive", ie. hire more women and minorities. There are also lots of departments that strive to make themselves "friendlier looking", e.g. fancy paint jobs on the patrol cars and cops with beards, etc. All this is well and good, I suppose, but it's long term effect (in this one old cop's opinion) has been that cops have forgotten their prime mission statement - in a word: Enforcement. The operative portion of that word is "force". It's not "convince" or "plead" or other weasle words. Policing to me always meant being there with a smile, but with an attack plan in my head - be prepared at a drop of a hat to go from friendly cop to attack cop. Many, many new cops don't have that. Not their fault - it's the liberal societies fault. In recent years there is also the "G. Floyd" effect - don't do anything (even the right thing), that may get you fired or sent to the slam. Long story short: Woke cops don't automatically "run to the gun". Sad.

In rebuke to Pentagon, Navy board finds 3-0 for vax objector amid questions of mandate's lawfulness
From a week ago, but I think still interesting.
[JustTheNews] "[W]e are encouraged that the truth was revealed in this Board, and we hope this ground-breaking case sends a strong message to the Department of Defense," said counsel for Navy Lt. Billy Moseley.

In a stinging rebuke to the Pentagon, a Navy administrative separation board voted unanimously to retain an officer who refused to comply with the military's COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

Navy Lt. Billy Moseley, who has been an officer for 22 years, could have chosen to retire from the military when he was ordered to receive the COVID vaccine. He also could have submitted a Religious Accommodation Request, since he objected to the vaccine for religious reasons.

Risking his retirement, Moseley chose instead to take his case to the administrative separation board after learning "that the Navy and the other services intended to implement a blanket denial policy," according to a blurb from his attorney, R. Davis Younts.

Moseley consulted with legal and medical experts and "became convinced that as an officer he had an obligation to take a stand against the unlawful order and be a voice for thousands of enlisted Sailors," the blurb continued.

Younts told Just the News Moseley is one of the first Navy service members — maybe even the first officer — to go to the board over the COVID vaccine mandate.

Any service member who has been in the military for more than six years is entitled to the board for due process. In the Navy, the board's recommendation on whether to retain or separate (another term for firing) a member of the service is binding.

Younts argued at the board hearing that the mandate for the experimental COVID vaccines was not a lawful order since the military has not made fully FDA-approved versions of the vaccines available to military members.

The military defense attorney told Just the News that the attorneys for the Navy agreed with him that there are no FDA-approved vaccines available, only interchangeable vaccines. Younts added that if there are no FDA-approved vaccines available, then the president would have to authorize the experimental shots that are currently available, which hasn’t happened.

On Friday, the board voted 3-0 that Moseley's failure to follow the COVID vaccine order did not count as misconduct and that he should remain in the Navy. Younts said that the board members weren't convinced that the vaccine order was lawful.

He added that this precedent "puts the Navy in an interesting position" regarding the other service members who have also refused the COVID vaccine.

While this is "only one case of thousands and we have many more clients facing prosecution by the military, we are encouraged that the truth was revealed in this Board, and we hope this ground-breaking case sends a strong message to the Department of Defense," Younts' blurb concluded.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: May 27th, 2022
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] 23:40 Zelensky said in an evening video message that Donbass will be Ukrainian: “We are defending our land in the way that the defense resource available today allows. And we are doing everything to strengthen it. If the occupiers think that Liman or Severodonetsk will be theirs, then they "They are wrong. Donbass will be Ukrainian. Because that is its essence. And even if Russia brings destruction and suffering everywhere, we will still restore every city and every community. And there is and will not be any real alternative to Ukrainian flags."

23:37 Ukrainian society will not accept the strengthening of the powers of government institutions, while it is necessary to build a tough security system in the state, Zelensky said during a conversation with the Stanford University community. He also emphasized that for the effectiveness of the already existing and discussed sanctions against Russia, a single strong position of the whole world is needed, which would make it impossible to circumvent these restrictions.

23:14 Zelensky said in an evening video message that the situation in Donbas is very difficult: “The invaders are trying to achieve the goals that they hoped to achieve in the first days after February 24, at least until a hundred days of war. Therefore, they concentrated maximum artillery, maximum reserves in Donbas. There are missile strikes and aviation. We are defending our land in the way that the defense resource available today allows. And we are doing everything to strengthen it."

23:02 The US government has made a preliminary decision on the supply of modern M270 MLRS and M142 Himars launchers to Ukraine, writes The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials. The Biden administration may announce deliveries of both types of launchers to Ukraine as early as next week. These installations have a greater range than any of the MLRS available to the APU.

22:58 Russia has been fighting in Ukraine for the fourth month already, the Kremlin says that everything allegedly "goes according to plan", but even inside the Russian Federation, despite the total tightening of the screws, doubts creep in about the realism of this very "plan". Foreign Policy writes about the first signs of dissatisfaction with the war in the Caucasus. More details - in the material Caucasian revolt .

22:50 Another Russian sapper was blown up during the demining of Azovstal today, Petr Andryushchenko, adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, said.

22:47 Biden, during an opening speech to graduates of the US Naval Academy, said that Putin "is trying to wipe the culture and identity of the Ukrainian people from the face of the earth," writes The Washington Post. The President also criticized attacks on Ukrainian hospitals, schools and other civilian buildings. According to Biden, Putin inadvertently "subdued all of Europe to NATO" - due to the fact that Sweden and Finland decided to join the alliance after Russia invaded Ukraine.

22:31 The number of Ukrainian refugees has reached 6.7 million people, according to the UN. In the last 24 hours alone, 41,000 people have left the country. In three months, most of the refugees went to Poland - 3.5 million - about a million each to Romania and Russia, another 665 thousand to Hungary.

22:28 Washington has not yet made a decision on providing Ukraine with multiple launch rocket systems, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said at a briefing. According to him, the US Department of Defense "remembers and knows about Ukraine's request."

"I won't go so far as to say that it's too late to provide the Ukrainians with any systems or facilities they might need because they are very active in combat and pushed the Russians back near Kharkov," Kirby added.

21:51 The Pentagon is convinced that Putin will not go to peace talks with Kiev. US Department of Defense spokesman John Kirby noted that after three months of Russian military intervention, Putin does not express a desire to negotiate with Ukraine. At the same time, Moscow has not yet achieved a single strategic goal: "Not a single large city has been captured, except for Mariupol. But Putin has shown that he is ready to continue the war in the Donbass: he is building up troops, pulling equipment, delivering air strikes."

21:40 Yanukovych released a six-page statement in which he accused Poland of intending to annex the western regions of Ukraine, and advised Ukrainians not to rely on the West, but to negotiate with Russia not from a position of strength, but with respect.

According to him, Putin does not want to give up his positions and abandon his plans, therefore, according to analysts, the war will be long.

Skibitsky also said that since May, in the Kherson region, the Russian army has been building several defense lines, mining bridges and roads. Russia has already used 60% of its stock of precision-guided weapons. Stocks are running out, so they got old Soviet ammunition. After the destruction of the Moscow and Saratov ships, Russian ships do not come close to the Ukrainian coast.

09:12 Russia is transferring personnel and military equipment, including Grads, from Crimea to the Zaporizhia region, the Zaporizhia OVA reports. Over the past day, the enemy in the Zaporozhye direction fired at the positions of Ukrainian troops from mortars, rocket and cannon artillery, and conducted a counter-battery fight. Also, the enemy grouping was additionally reinforced by the formed tank battalion on T-62 tanks.

The Russian Federation is deploying not only ground forces, but also air and sea components, the IVA said. In the direction of Melitopol, a convoy of military equipment drove from the Crimea - about 20 tilt trucks and the same number of Grad multiple rocket launchers.

08:50 British intelligence reports that Russian troops continue to try to encircle Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, and also transfer T-62 tanks to the south of Ukraine. Also, Russian ground forces have recently captured several villages northwest of Popasnaya and are putting pressure on the Severodonetsk region. Ukraine maintains control over several defense sectors, preventing the Russian Federation from establishing full control over the Donbass.

The task of occupying the southern territory of Ukraine is likely to remain before the southern grouping of Russian troops, analysts say. They estimate that re-mothballed 50-year-old T-62 tanks, likely deployed to southern Ukraine, will almost certainly be especially vulnerable to anti-tank weapons, and their presence on the battlefield highlights Russia's lack of modern combat-ready equipment.

08:31 Johnson offers Ukraine to abandon the idea of joining the EU and create a new system of unions. The British prime minister explains such an initiative with distrust of Brussels, and especially Germany, in the matter of countering Russia, writes Corriere della sera. According to the publication, Johnson "has been weaving his web for more than a month." He voiced this idea to Zelensky in Kyiv on April 9.

The model of the new European Commonwealth promoted by Johnson includes the UK as a leader and, in addition to Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. And also, perhaps, Turkey "at a later stage." Kyiv has not yet responded.

08:16 In Severodonetsk, four people died in a day, a police station was fired at in Lisichansk, and about 50 houses were damaged in the Luhansk region, said the head of the OVA Serhiy Gaidai. According to him, throughout the day, the Russians tried to break into Severodonetsk from the direction of Purdovka and Shchedrishchevo, attacked the positions of the Ukrainian military in the Ustinovka area.

08:12 Speaker of the Odesa OVA Serhiy Bratchuk called Russia's statements about the alleged opening of "humanitarian corridors" from Ukrainian ports "an information-psychological operation" of the enemy. According to him, the entire Odessa water area is mined by Russia, and in principle no ships can pass there.

Bratchuk is convinced that such statements are made by Moscow in order to transfer the blame for the lack of food in the world to the Ukrainian side. He also stressed that Russia did not coordinate the work of such corridors with Ukraine.

08:00 The Biden administration may announce the transfer of long-range missile systems (MLRS) to Ukraine next week, writes CNN. The issue was high on the agenda at two meetings last week at the White House, US officials said.

07:56 In Severodonetsk, on May 26, an enemy DRG entered the Mir hotel, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine were able to repulse the attack, said the head of the city's military-civilian administration Alexander Stryuk. During the day, 12 people were evacuated from the city.

07:52 The Russians were firing at night in the Dnepropetrovsk region. There is serious destruction, now the rubble is being cleared and people are being searched, said the head of the OVA, Valentin Reznichenko.

07:48 Governor of the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Gladkov said that in the Russian border village of Zhuravlevka, a woman allegedly died from shelling from the Ukrainian side. According to him, constant shelling is going on in Zhuravlevka, Nekhoteevka and Sereda.

07:45 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports that in recent days, although the defense of Ukraine remains effective, the Russian armed forces have made some progress in the conduct of hostilities and are preparing a third line of defense. Thus, the Russian troops have taken control of more than 95% of the Lugansk region and, probably, their goal is to complete the capture of Severodonetsk in the coming days.

At the same time, the Russians unsuccessfully tried to move southeast of Izyum near the borders of the Kharkov and Donetsk regions. They continued the siege of Severodonetsk and, probably, aim to completely cordon off the area of Severodonetsk-Lysichansk in the coming days.

The occupiers are moving steadily south and west from Popasna towards Bakhmut, but the pace of their advance is likely to slow down as they approach the city itself. Most likely, Russian troops in the occupied areas of the southern direction are preparing a "third line of defense" in order to consolidate long-term control over the region and prepare to repel possible future Ukrainian counteroffensives, analysts say.

07:37 The enemy resumed the offensive in the Slavyansk direction and wants to develop success in Bakhmutsky, cutting off Ukrainian units from the main forces, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports in the morning summary.

07:05 The Pentagon says that recently none of the parties in Ukraine has made significant progress. According to Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, the Ukrainians are keeping the Russians from advancing on Mykolaiv, and settlements in the Donbas are changing hands.

06:59 WHO adopted a resolution condemning Russia, which called on Moscow to "immediately stop all attacks on hospitals and other healthcare facilities" in Ukraine, and to ensure the protection of medical personnel, the sick and the wounded in accordance with the Geneva Conventions. China, Russia, Algeria, Belarus, Burundi, Eritrea, North Korea, Cuba, Laos, Mali, Nicaragua and Syria voted against the resolution. Serbia and Hungary did not vote.

05:56 Ukrainian military bases in the Zaporozhye region should be transferred to Russia, said a member of the "main council of the military-civil administration" of the region Vladimir Rogov. According to him, the Ukrainian naval base Vostok, located in Berdyansk on the coast of the Sea of Azov, could become the location of the Russian military base, and "the military air base in Melitopol would be even more useful."

02:47 China and Russia have vetoed the strengthening of UN sanctions against North Korea, initiated by Washington for testing Pyongyang's ballistic missiles.

00:13 Following the rejection of Russian monuments and street names with the outbreak of war, Ukraine is also trying to abandon the Russian Orthodox Church. The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, Kirill, praises young Russians who join the army and go to kill Ukrainians. More details in the material Church war .

00:02 Zelensky in the evening address: “Exactly eight years ago, on May 26, the Donetsk airport stopped working. <...> The catastrophic unfolding of events could still be stopped if the world treated the situation in Ukraine as its own situation. If the powers that be would not flirt with Russia, but really put pressure on her to end the war.<...> Since May 26, 2014, and even more so since February 24 of this year, to this day, there have been many opportunities for those who really have for this, the strength to put an end to it and say: now Russia will really feel the full price for what it is doing against Ukraine, against European unity and against freedom as such."

Ukrainian Soldiers detained after an interview with their commander about the plight of the army
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RIA Novosti] In Ukraine , militants from a territorial defense unit were detained and charged with desertion, the commander of which complained about the lack of training and weapons, writes the Washington Post.

The American edition published an article with the story of two Ukrainians - company commander Sergei Lapko and platoon commander Vitaly Khrus - about the plight at the front. The material notes that a few hours after the interview, SBU officers arrived at the hotel where the interlocutors of the journalists were and arrested some of the company’s fighters.

Apart from rifles and hand grenades, all they got was a handful of hand grenade launchers to counter the well-equipped Russian forces, the Teroboronians themselves said. At the same time, the Ukrainians were not explained how to use the issued RPGs.

"We didn't have normal training," company commander Sergei Lapko quoted the publication as saying. According to his colleague, there are about four RPGs for 15 people.

Interlocutors of the Washington Post from the defense of Ukraine said that most of the deaths in the unit were caused by the inability to quickly deliver the wounded to the hospital, since two cars that their company was supposed to receive did not reach the unit and are used at headquarters. Fighters have to wait up to 12 hours to send the wounded to the hospital in Lisichansk , 24 kilometers away.

In total, during the hostilities, out of 120 people, 54 remained in the company, the article says.

Earlier, the Ukrainian online edition "Strana.ua" reported a series of riots among the fighters of the territorial defense of Ukraine due to the sending of their units to the front line without adequate training.

Thus, servicemen from the 101st and 115th Brigades recorded video messages to the command and authorities of the country, declaring their refusal to perform combat missions and inadequate training and equipment of the units. The publication also reported on conflicts between the commanders of the defense and relatives of soldiers, outraged by the state of affairs in the troops.

#1  This is why Kissinger and The NY Times' ghost writers inside the intel community are urging a cease fire and peace talks. The truth on the battlefield is that the Ukrainians are desperate.

They've lost so many of their elite, savage fighters (like Azov) and the NATO-trained troops that now the replacements are press-ganged "volunteers," sent with next to no training and scarcely any ammo to the Donbas killing fields. They're cannon fodder and they know it.

The humane and prudent course of action is to call for an immediate cease-fire and stop the slaughter. Instead, Biden is escalating and prolonging the slaughter. Madness.

#6  Biden is escalating

Actually, he's just bullshitting, as usual. US support is declining, not increasing.

Of the $15B slated for weapons in the recent authorization, only $6B will actually go to the Ukrainians. $9B is actually going to replenish the depleted US arsenal -- depleted by earlier shipments to Ukraine that merely bought the Ukrainians a few extra weeks. The amount supplied is therefore decreasing, from $9B previously to $6B now.

Also, EU Foreign Affairs head Josep Burrell recently said, "the European armies couldn't maintain a war like the one in Ukraine for more than two weeks. They'll run out of ammunition." They're depleted, and the US arsenal is being depleted as well.

Wonder how much of the $6B will end up in Russian hands...

Foreign mercenaries detained in the DPR could face the death penalty
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RIA Novosti] The Prosecutor General's Office of the DPR has completed the investigation into the criminal case of foreign mercenaries from the UK and Morocco, they may face the death penalty, Viktor Gavrilov, head of the department for investigating crimes against the peace and security of mankind of the Republic's Prosecutor General's Office, told RIA Novosti.

"The Prosecutor General's Office of the Donetsk People's Republic has completed the investigation of a criminal case against a group of foreign mercenaries from Great Britain and Morocco suspected of committing crimes under Part 2 of Article 34 ("Commission of crimes by a group of persons"), Article 323 ("Forcible seizure of power or forcible retention of power "), Article 440 ("Mercenary") of the Criminal Code of the DPR, - said Gavrilov.

According to him, the testimony of British citizens Sean Pinner and Andrew Hill, as well as a citizen of the Kingdom of Morocco, Saadoun Brahim, confirmed their guilt.

"The criminal case against the mercenaries who took part in the preparation and conduct of hostilities against the Donetsk People's Republic has been fully formed. The case materials have been transferred to one of the republican courts for consideration on the merits, as a result of which, taking into account wartime, the defendants can be capital punishment: the death penalty," Gavrilov said.

The British Sean Pinner and Aiden Aslin surrendered in Ukraine in mid-April. Major General Igor Konashenkov , spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry , said that under international humanitarian law, mercenaries cannot claim combatant status, so "the best thing that awaits them is a long prison term."

Later, Pinner on the TV channel "Russia 1" said that he and Aslin turned to Prime Minister Boris Johnson with a request to assist in their exchange for opposition Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk.

"Our grouping in two days can be completely surrounded, which will lead to terrible consequences, like in Mariupol, only in an accelerated format, since the city is not ready to keep all-round defense for a long time."

It's going to be truly horrific because unlike Mariupol, the slaughter will not take place in drips over weeks, and hidden from view inside a closed industrial plant, but rapidly and out in the open along the roads west and south of Lysychansk.

There are a few elite battalions remaining but most of the Ukrainian troops now have no experience, next to no training, and little ammunition. They will be slaughtered if a cease fire us not called within the next week.

#3  Wait, what...? You mean the Ukrainians are getting pounded and retreating on every front? But we were told as recently as a week ago that they were winning.

Now the Narrative is that they're collapsing. Mutinies, desperation, dwindling ammo, death and despair.

So today the NY Times' main dispatch from the Donbas front -- conveniently buried beneath some dozen or so flood-the-zone pieces about Gun Violence and Evil Republicans -- warns of impending doom:

Under the fire of Russia’s long-range arsenal and facing a desperate need for ammunition and weapons, Ukrainian forces remain outgunned on the long and pockmarked eastern front, according to military analysts, Ukrainian officials and soldiers on the ground.

But...but... you told us it was the Russians who were "outgunned" and "desperate." How can this be? You mean you lied?

My how the Narrative Turns. You almost expect them to announce that western leaders are begging the Russians to talk peace, with Russia holding all the cards

#11  Good analysis here by Alexander Mercouris.

"The United States is in danger of running out of weapons it can supply to Ukraine from [the United States'] own stocks... Ukraine is running out of men, ammunition, supplies and weapons, and the West, instead of being able to replace those lost supplies, is depleting its own stocks of weapons."

Thus the curious use of "lend-lease," a program of new production of future stocks rather than sales out of existing weapons inventories. This approach, based upon future production, has never been applied since World War II.

The implied depletion of western weapons stocks would also fit with what appear to be Pentagon and Intelligence Community directives to the politicians to reduce their commitments to Ukraine -- so as to enable the US backfill its own dangerously low reserves of critical weapons and supplies.

#13  My, how the Narrative shifts. The latest Washington Post story from Ukraine, published 3 hours ago, details how American mercenaries got the crap beaten out of them.

Ukraine war veterans are coming home, reckoning with difficult fight
Americans and other foreign fighters who’ve taken up arms against Russia describe glaring disparities in what they expected and what they experienced

By Alex Horton, Razzan Nakhlawi and Souad Mekhennet
THE WASHINGTON POST
May 28, 2022 at 7:07 p.m. EDT

In interviews with The Washington Post, foreign fighters from the United States and elsewhere described glaring disparities between what they expected the war to be like and what they experienced. They recalled going into battle underequipped and outgunned...

...the conflict has drawn Western military veterans who either have never deployed into combat previously or have experienced only asymmetrical insurgencies — not this type of war, with contested airspace, unrelenting rocket bombardment, and swarms of drones with sophisticated thermal targeting technology.

#14  Total clownshow. Poor deluded fools. The WaPo reporters continue their sad tale:

"...Russian artillery pounded their position a half-hour later, and [American mercenary] Dakota’s team withdrew under the cover of night. About a week later he felt nauseated and carsick. He was diagnosed with a brain injury linked to his proximity to the shelling, he said, and left for home toward the end of April. He has been in recovery ever since.

Other volunteers described different frustrations. Pascal, a veteran of the German army, was on a team with Cancel, the American killed in combat in late April. Problems arose during their first mission, he said.

The team suspected their two-way radios were being monitored by Russian forces, and they lacked extra batteries, forcing them to rely on unsecured cellphones and WhatsApp to communicate. Soon after they exchanged plans, their position was attacked by Russian artillery, he said.

The volunteers felt underinformed during many of their missions, not knowing where they were — and, vitally, where the Russians were, Pascal said. The day Cancel was killed, he said, they took fire from a position they believed to be Ukrainian but didn’t have radio communication to confirm. Two members of the team ventured out to investigate. Gunfire sounded, and they never returned, he said.
The remaining team members came under heavy fire, including artillery rounds, from the same direction, Pascal said. One team member was killed in the shelling. Pascal and another volunteer turned their attention to Cancel, who had be struck by shrapnel, he said. They applied tourniquets in a fruitless attempt to stop the bleeding. Their bodies were left behind as Pascal and another survivor withdrew.

That was Pascal’s last mission. He later crossed into Poland. Miller, the American volunteer, met him at a bar in Warsaw and noted how shaken up he seemed. They stepped outside and Miller consoled him, using Google Translate to find the right words in German. They hugged.

From the beginning, we had no chance,” Pascal said in an interview. “I was asking myself why I survived and the others did not.”

#15  Who is to blame for raising these "glaring disparities between what they expected the war to be like and what they experienced"?

Who gave them the impression that could defeat a great power military when they "went into battle underequipped and outgunned"?

Very well then, so perhaps it's the foolish arrogance of "Western military veterans who ... have experienced only asymmetrical insurgencies" — unlike "this type of war, with contested airspace, unrelenting rocket bombardment, and swarms of drones with sophisticated thermal targeting technology...."

Ultimately though the blame rests with the Wesyern politicians, the defense contractors and the media figures who lied to the public and pretended that Russia is not a great power with great resolve and overwhelming force, fighting for what the Russians believe is their very existence as a great nation. Saying it implying otherwise was a Big Lie.

There are at least eight videos from eight units, posted on Ukrainian social media, all of them refusing to carry out suicidal missions. Each of these units presents a formal demand to President Zelensky and the Ukrainian General in Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces:

Economy
First-quarter economic growth revised down slightly to negative 1.5% annual rate
[Washington Examiner] GDP fell at a 1.5% annualized rate in the first quarter of 2022, a revised estimate from the Bureau of Economic Analysis showed Thursday morning.

The decline in inflation-adjusted GDP is a major reversal from the previous quarter, when growth soared to a 6.9% rate as businesses began healing faster from the pandemic as restrictions were lifted.

The first quarter of this year marks the first such contraction since the second quarter of 2020, when the economy suffered from the enormous shock of coronavirus shutdowns.

The decline in GDP for the first part of this year fueled anxiety among some economists that a recession is around the corner.

"While we still expect the Fed to steer the economy toward a soft landing, downside risks to the economy and the probability of a recession are increasing," economists from Oxford Economics said after the report was released.

The country is being plagued by explosive inflation, with consumer prices increasing by 8.3% in the 12 months ending in April. As a result, the Federal Reserve has embarked upon a historic interest rate hiking cycle designed to slow the economy and tame the rising prices.

Add on price now as fuel supplies will shortly become very erratic. You will not lose money on sales. You will increase retail to slow sales so you don't run out of fuel. Perhaps shutdown fuel pumps all together. The decision is now on you. What would you do. Some states are now requiring $10.00 dollar price indicator. Who pays for that. States like Pa. and Maryland are wanting to increase state taxes also.Daddy big bucks gets raped again and again.

Government Corruption
Feds Confirm Investigation Into Elon Musk
[WIRE] The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission confirmed on Friday that it is investigating Elon Musk’s disclosure that he owned shares in Twitter ahead of his $44 billion purchase of the company.

The SEC is looking into why Musk allegedly made his disclosure late that he owned more than 5% of the company’s shares, which he must legally disclose within 10 days of meeting the threshold.

"The SEC also wants to know why Musk filed a ’13G’ form, which is meant for passive investors, rather than a ’13D’ form that would be for activist investors (including those with interest in making a takeover offer)," Axios reported. "It’s important to note that the SEC’s letter came on the same day as Musk’s disclosure, which is before he offered to buy Twitter outright."

The SEC said in its letter that it wants a response from Musk even if he does not believe that their "comments apply to your facts and circumstances."

"The case is easy. It’s straightforward," Daniel Taylor, a University of Pennsylvania accounting professor, said. "But whether they’re going to pick that battle with Elon is another question."

Blinken lays out Washington’s ‘invest, align, compete’ strategy to meet China challenge
In which one of our Fearless Leaders lays out the next Clever Ruse for our delectation.

’s threefold strategy toward the Asian superpower.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Asia Society at George Washington University in Washington, the top American diplomat vowed that the U.S. would "defend and strengthen" international law, principles and institutions which, he argued, China was undermining. But neither is the Biden administration looking to become embroiled in conflict with the world’s most populous nation, Blinken said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Lira recovers as Salameh says banks to provide dollars anew
[AnNahar] The unofficial dollar exchange rate dropped from a record high of LBP 38,000 to at least LBP 34,300 on Friday, immediately after Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh
...Governor of Lebanon'scentral bank, Banque du Liban since April 1993. Salameh was appointed Governor by decree, approved by the Council of Ministers for a renewable term of six years. He was reappointed for four consecutive terms; in 1999, 2005, 2011 and 2017. Salameh chairs the Banque du Liban Central Council, the Higher Banking Commission, the AML/CFT Special Investigation Commission and the Capital Markets Authority. Salameh is a member of the board of governors at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and at the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF). Salameh is the longest-serving central bank governor in the world....
issued a statement saying banks would resume exchange operations at the Sayrafa platform rate as of Monday.

In a statement addressed to "all the holders of Lebanese pounds, be them citizens or institutions, who want to exchange them for U.S. dollars," Salameh said exchange requests can be submitted to Lebanese banks as of Monday.

"These requests will be fulfilled in full within 24 hours," Salameh added.

"This offer is open and available every day," the governor went on to say.

In another statement addressed to banks, Salameh said: "As of Monday, and for three consecutive days, Lebanese banks must keep their branches and cash counters open until 6:00 pm daily, to fulfill citizens’ requests to purchase dollars at the Sayrafa rate in exchange for Lebanese pounds."

Banks must also "pay the salaries of public sector employees in dollars and according to the Sayrafa rate," Salameh added.

Banks had stopped selling dollars at the Sayrafa rate in recent days, with some accusing them of suspending the operations in response to the government's financial and economic recovery plan.

The Lebanese pound had registered a new record low of LBP 38,000 to the greenback earlier on Friday.

For decades, the Lebanese pound was pegged to the dollar at 1,500, meaning that it has lost around 95 percent of its value in two years.

A financial crisis widely blamed on government corruption and mismanagement has caused the worst economic crisis in Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady days of human sacrifice to Baal Moloch...
's history.

The cost of a full tank of petrol now far exceeds the minimum monthly wage, mains electricity comes on barely two hours a day and unaffordable school fees are driving increased student dropouts.

Four out of five Lebanese are now considered poor by the World Bank.

The country desperately needs an international rescue package but the required reforms have not been forthcoming.

The exchange rate, which is unofficial but applies to most transactions, had recently stabilized at around 26,000 to the dollar but took a tumble after the latest legislative polls.

The results brought in a handful of independents who support the spirit of a 2019 protest movement which called for the wholesale ouster of Lebanon's corrupt and hereditary ruling class. But they also yielded a more scattered assembly that observers predict could remain stuck in a political deadlock that will further delay any meaningful economic recovery program.
