Afghanistan
Outgoing Afghan president takes one last swipe at US
[ARABNEWS] Outgoing Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
used his farewell speech on Tuesday to take one last swipe at the United States, capping a long-testy relationship with the accusation that America hasn't wanted peace in Afghanistan.

The only president Afghanistan has known since the 2001 US-led invasion said the United States wanted war in Afghanistan "because of its own interests." Karzai's relationship with the US has grown increasingly fragile in recent years, but the US-Afghan relationship may get a reset on Monday, when President-elect Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
Ahmadzai will be sworn in.

The United States has spent more than $100 billion on aid in Afghanistan since 2001 to train and equip the country's security forces, to pave crumbling dirt roads, to upgrade hospitals and to build schools. But Karzai in his speech thanked a slew of countries for their help -- India, Japan, China, Iran, Turkey, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, South Korea and Germany -- without mentioning the US

The speech fingered the US and the military leaders of neighboring Pakistain as the powers backing perpetual war.

"If America and Pakistain really want it, peace will come to Afghanistan," Karzai said. "War in Afghanistan is based on the aims of foreigners. The war in Afghanistan is to the benefit of foreigners. But Afghans on both sides are the sacrificial lambs and victims of this war."

More than 2,200 US forces have died in Afghanistan operations since 2001. Nearly 20,000 have been maimed.

Somalia Pirates Release U.S.-German Hostage
[AnNahar] Somali pirates on Tuesday freed a German-American journalist and writer, Michael Scott Moore, two and a half years after he was kidnapped in the war-torn Horn of Africa nation, officials said.

A Somali pirate source, who asked not to be named, said a ransom was paid for his release, without giving more details.

"The journalist was released and handed over to Puntland

Foreign Ministry HQ "handed over" to National Salvation Government's appointee
[Libya Herald] Mohammed Agheirani, newly-appointed foreign minister in the Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
-created National Salvation Government, has "received" the Foreign Ministry building in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
from the General National Congress (GNC) in an official ceremony.

In his speech, Agheirani, the former ambassador to Jordan, fired earlier this month, said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could not continue to "keep its doors closed", but that all ministry employees were desperately needed back at work.

Agheirani called on neighbouring Arab countries and the rest of the international community,i nternational organizations and diplomatic missions in particular, to return to Libya, reopen the embassies and conduct business as usual.

"We need the cooperation of the international community to fight against terrorism and illegal immigration," Agheirani said, adding "To those who have been hesitant to accept Libya Dawn's control of Tripoli, we reiterate that we are working hard to correct the path of the 17 February Revolution" .

Nigerian schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram 'not released into military custody'
[MIRROR.CO.UK] The Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
bully boyz have NOT been released tonight, following earlier reports that they had been freed.

The BBC was told by Nigeria's military that a number of girls taken from the village of Chibok were now in the safety of military custody.

The broadcaster said Brig Gen Chris Olukolade did not reveal exactly how many girls had been rescued, but that their release was part of an "ongoing exercise".

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
the Nigerian military has now retracted its statement, saying there were girls in jug but they were not from Chibok.

British Muslim Group Takes on IS Jihadists on Twitter
[AnNahar] As international military action builds up against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, a British Moslem association is taking on the jihadists through Twitter with the campaign #notinmyname.

The push by the Active Change Foundation includes a video of young people and its director, Hanif Qadir, speaking out against extremism and holding up placards with the hashtag.

"Young Moslems are adding their voices to the fight-back against ISIS," the association said on its website, using a name for the Islamic State group that is widely used in Britannia.

"Let your voice be heard rejecting the ideology of hate," it said, accusing the group of "hiding behind a false Islam".

The video, which has been shared more than 83,000 times on YouTube, begins with a young woman in a colorful headscarf saying: "ISIS do not represent Islam or any Moslem."

It follows with responses from a variety of young people including one man in a suit and tie saying, "Because what you're doing is inhumane," and another man in a T-shirt and a jacket saying, "Because they're killing innocent people."

"Because you have no compassion," Qadir himself says.

The campaign is one of several that have cropped up on Twitter against Islamic State, including one with the hashtag #BurnISISFlagChallenge -- a take on the popular Ice Bucket Challenge featuring the IS group's black flag being set alight.

#5  What kind of Msulims? In the UK there is a quite of Ahmedistas (I think that is their name. Theya accept Muhammad as a prophet but their supreme Prophet is XIXth century Pakistanese. That is of course an abomination for real Muslsims since it is suposed there wil be no prophet after Muhammad (and prophets eraler than him had had their teachings rewritten so they match Muhammad's) and the teaching of Ahmedists's prophet directly chanlengge Muhammad's.

AFAIK Ahmedism could be considered a religion of peace. Only problem is all Muslims but them don't consider Muslims and their religion has, AFAIK, little in common with what is mandated in the Kuran.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
New Ukrainian ceasefire implementation comes slowly

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

Implementation of the new September 19th ceasefire by both sides in southeastern Ukraina continues, albeit slowly, interspersed with artillery fire from both sides, according to Russian, Ukrainian and English language news accounts.

The area of Schaste, which is on the Donetsk River northwest of Lugansk, continues to see firefights between the two combatants. Pro Russian media have said that that area will be a likely jumping off point for future Ukrainian combat offensives.

According to a news report posted on the website of Voice of Sevastopol, in Donetsk last Friday on the day the new truce was signed, a total of 12 tons of military grade high explosives maintained by the pro Russian militia was detonated in a ballistic missile attack launched by Ukrainian artillery units.

Some militia reports say that delivery of humanitarian supplies was affected by the strike, but subsequent militia reports say the needed supplies were delivered and distributed without problems.

Last weekend artillery strikes from Ukrainian artillery units were recorded in several spots in northern Donetsk including the villages of Gornyak and Petrovka and in the Kirovsky, Kuibyshevsky and Kievsky districts of Donetsk.

That day Ukrainian military units were observed leaving the northern Donetsk towns of Zhdanovka and Makeevka.

Saturday morning it was reported in Voice of Sevastopol by the militias that Ukrainian units were leaving the town of Yenakievo and surrounding settlements of Yuzhnokommunarsk, Verkhnyaya and Nizhnyaya Krinka, Rozovka and Uglegorsk, and the town of Zhdanovka.

It was also reported that elements of the Ukrainian Territorial Defense Battalion Chernigov-2 attempted to destroy the entrance to a mine in Zhdanovka, but that pro Russian militias managed to prevent the detonation.

In and around Mariupol, artillery fire was exchanged between the combatants including near the town of Stary Krim and in two locations near Mariupol, Vostochny and Mirny. Militia reports say some of the artillery fire came from from Bezimyannoye, which is presumably to the northwest of Mariupol.

Ukrainian media said Saturday that pro Russian militia continue to fire on Ukrainian military units deployed between Mariupol and Donetsk. Saturday Ukrainian official media said that a group of militia fighters was destroyed. The unit was said to be carrying 12.7mm (.50 caliber) rifles.

Sporadic artillery fire was recorded in Donetsk city in Petrovsky district on Mamin-Sibiryak street, where a residence was destroyed by artillery fire.

For their part Ukrainian official media say that any artillery fire from their forces is counterbattery fire intended to suppress artillery fire on their own units.

Ukrainian media continues to cover the story of a Russian paratrooper unit which was destroyed by artillery fire inside Ukraina last August 15th. Current western and pro Ukrainian news reports name at least one wounded Russian soldier who presumably had been evacuated following the attack.

One local Russian media outlet in Pskov said that it had the names of around 26 unnamed soldiers who perished in that incident, but the report failed to note the location of any graves of the soldiers who died.

A total of 80 Russian paratroopers died in the strike.

The soldiers who were killed last August were said to be part of the Russian 76th "Pskov" Airborne Division, one of the eight active duty airborne divisions in the Russian Army. Ukrainian and pro western media say that all 80 of the victims were interred secretly in sites throughout Russia.

Pro Russian media continue to point out that there were no reports of survivors of the artillery strike, no wounded and no prisoners, and contend that none of the victim's graves were found near Pskov, the recruiting area of the division. Ukrainian media has failed to provide documentary evidence of the identities of the dead soldiers.

Russia has so far denied the incident took place, and continues to deny Russian forces have entered the war.

A report by Ukrainian official media said that Russian helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were observed near but not over the Ukrainian border.

N.Korean FM on Charm Offensive
North Korea's Foreign Minister Ri Su-yong has been on a geriatric charm offensive since he took office in April, spending much of his time overseas. Ri (79) traveled to Algeria on May 24, his first trip abroad in the capacity, to attend the foreign ministers' meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement.

He has so far spent 66 days or roughly two out of every five abroad.
So he gets fed two days a week...
"Kim Jong-un has apparently given special orders to Ri to turn the external situation around," a senior Foreign Ministry official here said on Monday. "Ri spends anything between 15 and 40 days overseas at a time."

The longest trip lasted 39 days and took in Algeria, Kuwait, Gambia, Mozambique, Lebanon and Syria.
And he gained weight...
Another 16-day whirlwind tour took him to Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore following the ASEAN Regional Forum in Burma last month.

This month he has been back to the Middle East including Iran before attending the UN General Assembly in New York, having left Pyongyang on Sept. 11. He is expected to deliver a keynote speech at the assembly and meet with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday.
The two will have lunch, which fits both their agendas nicely...

N.Korea Developing Satellite-Guided Bomb
North Korea is developing a new precision-guided bomb, similar to the U.S.' GPS-guided joint direct attack munitions or JDAMs, the military here believes.

"We expect that the North will finish development of a new precision-guided bomb in the near future because we've detected signs that the North has been conducting tests for a few years now," a military source here said.

Military authorities say they detected signs of a fighter jet dropping the new bomb over a testing ground in North Korea's Hwanghae Province this year.

The JDAM is a GPS-guided bomb with a range of 28 km and alleged accuracy of about 13 m. The North's new bomb is believed to have a range of some 10 km.
Plus-minus 10 km...
It is believed to be guided by the Global Orbiting Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS), the Russian version of GPS, the source added.

IS message calling on followers to kill Australians, French, Canadian, American or European a genuine threat: Bishop
[ABNA.IR] The first formal call by the terrorist group for a war against and in the West was issued by the group's front man Abu Muhammad al-Adnani ash-Shami yesterday.

This morning Australian Federal Police officers armed with assault rifles could be seen on guard outside Parliament House in Canberra.

The decision to post heavily-armed coppers outside Parliament House was taken by Speaker Bronwyn Bishop and the President of the Senate, based on advice from security agencies.

In a speech that was uploaded to the internet as an audio file, al-Adnani said: "If you can kill an American or European infidel -- especially the spiteful and cursed French -- or an Australian or a Canadian, or any other disbeliever from the infidel fighters ... then rely upon God and kill them in any way possible."

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, who is in New York ahead of UN Security Council meetings on Iraq and Syria later this week, said no-one was safe from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. holy warriors.

"Our agencies are treating this threat as genuine, and it's quite apparent that ISIL is prepared to take on anyone who doesn't share its views," she told AM, using an alternative name for Islamic State.

"We are a threat -- not because of what we're prepared to do to combat ISIL, but because of who we are.

"ISIL is killing Shia, Sunni, Kurds, Christians; they're killing aid workers, journalists.

"That's why we're so committed to containing and degrading and destroying ISIL as far as we can in cooperation with other countries."

Pakistan's Baluchistan separatists demand Scotland-style vote
Baluch separatist leaders today called on Pakistan to follow in Britain's footsteps by holding a referendum similar to Scotland's on granting independence to the insurgency-wracked province.

Scots rejected independence in a vote that left the centuries-old United Kingdom intact despite a surge in nationalist support in the final fortnight of the campaign.

Dr Bashir Azeem, secretary general of the outlawed Baluch Republican Party, told AFP: "The Baluch have been struggling against the excesses and tyranny of Punjab-dominated establishment of Pakistan for decades," referring to the country's largest and most powerful province. "If a fair referendum is conducted after creating an atmosphere for it, providing the opportunity to Baluch population for deciding their future, it is welcomed," he added.

Imran summoned on Oct 13 to verify resignation
[DAWN] Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq said on Tuesday that politicians from the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI ) would be summoned to verify their resignations in groups of three. The process will begin on September 25 and will be completed by October 15. In this regard, party chairman Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who ain't the brightest knife in the national drawer...
has been called to appear in the Speaker's chamber on October 13.

Sadiq said that until the process came full circle and a resignation was accepted, a parliamentarian was allowed to take part in assembly proceedings and attend sessions.

The statement from Sadiq came as Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
(JI) Emir Sirajul Haq
...current head of the Pak Jamaat-e-Islami. Siraj was born in 1962 and entered politics shortly after that...
called on the speaker and requested him to delay the process of accepting resignations to which Sadiq said that the process had already been delayed due to talks between the government and PTI.

International-UN-NGOs
Citing Israel, Iran Rejects Demand To Move Nuke Facility
[IsraelTimes] In a setback to Iran nuclear talks, Tehran is again rejecting US demands it repurpose an underground uranium enrichment site after what it says are Israeli threats from the air to another enrichment plant, diplomats told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named Monday.

The US wants the site near the city of Fordo, southwest of Tehran, shut down or converted to a purpose other than uranium enrichment because the plant is dug deep into a mountain. Because of that, Washington, and Iran's arch-foe Israel, fears the fortified plant is impervious to an air attack. Centrifuges enriching uranium can churn out material ranging from low-level reactor fuel to the fissile core of a nuclear weapon.

What to do with the Fordo plant has been a central point of months of negotiations between Iran, the US and five other world powers aimed at reducing Iran's ability to make an atomic weapon in exchange for an end to crippling economic sanctions.

Iran denies it wants nuclear arms and was reportedly engaging on US proposals on reconfiguring the site at previous negotiating rounds. But that has changed at the most recent session, which began Friday, said two diplomats, who demanded anonymity because their information is confidential.

They said Tehran now is invoking the case of what they say was an Israel drone they shot down last month near their main enrichment site at Natanz in arguing that they need to leave Fordo as an enrichment plant because of the vulnerability of the Natanz plant, south of Tehran.

Iranian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
aired footage of the purported drone August 25 and identified it as a Hermes 450 drone, which is manufactured in Israel. Israel has not commented. Tehran is also pushing members of the UN's ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency to condemn Israel over the alleged incident at the IAEA's general assembly this week.

Washington's main aim at the talks is to place strict constraints on the size and output of Iran's uranium enrichment program, and diplomats told the AP last week that it was trying a new approach in attempts to erode Tehran's resistance.

They said a new US proposal on the table focuses on removing piping connecting the centrifuges. That would allow the US leeway on modifying demands that Iran cut the number of centrifuge machines from 19,000 to no more than 1,500.

The initiative would allow the Iranians to claim that they did not compromise on vows that they would never emasculate their enrichment capabilities, while keeping intact American demands that the program be downgraded to a point where it could not be quickly turned to making bombs.

The fate of a reactor under construction near the city of Arak is another contentious issue. The US and its Western allies want the reactor converted to reduce to a minimum its production of plutonium, an alternate pathway to nuclear arms.

The US is joined by Russia, China, Britannia, La Belle France and Germany at the negotiating table with Iran. The deadline for a deal was extended to Nov. 24 after the sides failed to reach agreement by the end of July.

Iraq
Australia Deploys Warplanes To Join Campaign Against IS
[IsraelTimes] Australian warplanes are being deployed to the Middle East to join the US-led campaign of air strikes on jihadist targets in northern Iraq, Defense Minister David Johnston said on Monday.

"We will provide a number of military platforms, up to eight Super Hornet aircraft to participate in a US-led coalition in delivering air strikes," he told news hounds in Baghdad after meeting Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced on September 14 that Australia would send fighter jets and forces to the United Arab Emirates as its contribution to the US-led military effort against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) jihadist group.

"We are in the process of deploying them to the Middle East," Johnston said Tuesday, adding however that more preparation work was needed before the Australian jets were brought into action.

"We are some distance from the start of that now, we need to deal with a few technical matters with respect to operations," said Johnston.

The deployment also includes an E-7 Wedgetail early warning and control aircraft and an aerial refueling tanker aircraft, as well as special forces who will act as military advisers.

The announcement comes after Australian police last week foiled an alleged plot by IS jihadists to conduct "demonstration killings" in the country, including randomly beheading members of the public.

IS fighters are active in swathes of Iraq and Syria but Abbott has said Canberra had no plans to intervene in the latter country.

Gaza Truce Negotiators Set New Talks for End of October
[AnNahar] Israeli and Paleostinian negotiators in Cairo on Tuesday agreed to schedule new talks on a durable Gazoo ceasefire for the last week of October, a Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, official said.

A delay in the talks after their first Egypt-mediated negotiations since the end last month of a devastating 50-day war in Gazoo had been expected, because of upcoming Jewish and Moslem holidays.

The Paleostinian delegation, which includes rival factions Hamas and president the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
's Fatah, will remain in Cairo this week to discuss resolving their own disputes.

"We finished the indirect negotiations... it was agreed to resume them in the last week of October," senior Hamas negotiator Ezzat al-Rishq wrote on his Facebook page.

Egypt's foreign ministry said the next round of indirect talks would be held in the second half of October in Cairo.

During Tuesday's talks "both sides agreed to commit to the truce and have presented their suggestions for discussing pending issues," the ministry said in a statement.

The Israeli negotiators left Cairo after Tuesday's talks, an official at Cairo airport said.

The talks were almost derailed earlier on Tuesday as Paleostinian negotiators threatened to pull out after Israeli soldiers killed two suspects in the June murder of three Jewish teenagers in the West Bank.

That incident shocked Israel and led to weeks of simmering violence culminating in the war between Israel and Hamas Death Eaters in Gazoo which killed more than 2,140 Paleostinians, most of them civilians, and 73 on the Israeli side, mostly soldiers.

The war ended on August 26 with an agreement to hold future talks on Paleostinian demands to end an eight-year blockade of Gazoo and exchange prisoners in Israeli jails for the remains of Israeli soldiers killed in Gazoo.

Rishq said the Paleostinian negotiators in Cairo proposed that the talks in October center on reconstructing Gazoo and setting up an airport and port in the Mediterranean enclave.

Israel has insisted that Hamas, which possesses a considerable arsenal of short- and medium-range rockets, disarm.

The July-August war caused a vast amount of destruction to homes and infrastructure in densely populated Gazoo, leaving more than 100,000 Paleostinians homeless in the long term, according to the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Cairo is set to host an international donor conference on October 12 on reconstruction, amid warnings that the Paleostinian Authority should manage the work and the funds allocated to it, urging Hamas to hand over power in Gazoo to the PA.

Hamas, an Islamist krazed killer movement designated as a terrorist group by the United States, Israel and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, will also hold separate negotiations in Cairo with Fatah representatives on Wednesday and Thursday.

The factions formed a unity government in June to end a seven-year rift during which Hamas seized control of Gazoo, and the Islamists remain the de facto rulers of the coastal enclave.

The talks in Cairo will focus on the transfer of power in Gazoo to the national unity government and on security there, a member of the Fatah delegation said.

They are also expected to address withheld salaries for Hamas civil servants in Gazoo, one of the main stumbling blocks to implementing the reconciliation deal.

Abbas: Will demand UN resolution to end Israeli occupation
[ARABNEWS] Paleostinian leader the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
said on Monday that he will demand an international resolution that would set a timetable for ending Israeli occupation of Paleostinian territories when he speaks to the UN General Assembly this week.

If the UN rejects his appeal, Abbas said he will seek membership in international institutions and agencies. His aides have said that would include the International Criminal Court
... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ...

Joining the court could potentially open the door to war crimes charges against Israel, both for its military actions in Gazoo and for ongoing construction of Jewish settlements on occupied lands.

Ahead Of Cairo Talks, Danish FM Threatens Israel With Sanctions
[IsraelTimes] Denmark is considering adopting a tougher stance toward Israel if this week's talks with the Paleostinians in Cairo fail to produce the desired results, the country's foreign minister said Monday, threatening Jerusalem with European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
-wide economic sanctions.

"If nothing happens at the peace negotiations this time, and if we don't see a new reaction pattern from Israel, then we will discuss new steps, including a change in our trade relations with Israel," Martin Lidegaard told the Jyllands-Posten newspaper. "I hope that it doesn't go that far, but I think that EU policy is heading in that direction."

Lidegaard, who became foreign minister in February, further called on Israel to lift its "blockade" of the Gazoo Strip and to end the "illegal settlements" in the West Bank as they undermine a two-state solution. The Paleostinians, he said, must demilitarize Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and other terrorist groups in Gazoo.

Ties between Copenhagen and Jerusalem are usually warm, which is presumably why Israel decided not to respond angrily to Lidegaard's threat. "The Danish foreign minister is mistaken in his one-sided analysis of the current situation between Israel and the Paleostinian," a senior diplomatic official told The Times of Israel on Monday. "We are sure that a visit on the ground will enable him to get a better and more balanced perspective on the questions and challenges we face."

Opposition parties in Denmark criticized Lidegaard's statement, as did Trade Minister Mogens Jensen, who suggested that no sanctions against Israel are currently required. Such a move should not come as an initiative of his government, he said. "You can use sanctions when there is international approval for doing so," Jensen told Jyllands-Posten. "I don't think that it makes sense for Denmark to go it alone, because then it will have no effect. And I don't feel that I can say there is a need for sanctions yet."

CCTV To Document Construction Material In Gaza
[Ynet] Israel, Paleostinians, and UN say mechanism to transfer goods to Gazoo will prevent dual-use items from falling into Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,' hands.

Israel, the Paleostinians, the UN, and donor nations agreed on a mechanism to allow for the reconstruction of the Gazoo Strip at an international donors' conference in New York on Monday night.

According to the agreement, all construction materials that enter Gazoo will be recorded and supervised to assure they do not fall into Hamas' hands.

The conference occurs annually in New York at the start of the United Nation's General Assmebly. This year's conference was held in the wake of Operation Protective Edge, which left the Strip significantly debilitated.

The conference was chaired by UN Secretary-General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and Egypt also participated in the conference.

Deputy Minister Hanegbi stressed to those in attendance that the mechanism agreed with the UN was intended to assure that dual-use materials that arrive in Gazoo as part of the reconstruction effort will not be used in terror activities.

Thus, the mechanism mandates that all construction materials will be stored in Gazoo warehouses equipped with CCTV cameras.

Hanegbi also announced a series of projects to allow for a renewed burst of economic activity in the West Bank. The international donors welcomed Israel's willingness to help the Paleostinian Authority as it faces a dual crisis -- enormous debts on one hand, and political weakness from the surge in Hamas' popularity, on the other.

Egypt is expected to schedule another conference to focus solely on the reconstruction of Gazoo, with cooperation from Norway and Abbas.

The international donors' conference has convened every year since 1993 at the behest of the Norwegian foreign minister, and its primary role is to assist in the construction of Paleostinian infrastructure in the West Bank and Gazoo and to strengthen the economic foundations of the PA.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Alamo, Davy was wondering if Buck was okay. He suspected he wasn't...
the talks between Israel and the Paleostinians continued in Cairo. The Paleostinian delegation presented Tuesday its demands for the subsequent meetings. The delegation repeated its demand for the establishment of an airport and seaport in Gazoo and the termination of IDF anti-Hamas operations in the West Bank.

The Paleostinians also demanded the release of all the Shalit-exchange prisoners who were relocked away

Iran unveils 'anti-aircraft' UAV
[Ynet] Tehran's first home-made UAV revealed during Sacred Defense Week; Iranian military claims new vehicle equipped with air-to-air missiles.
More "scary" Iranian vapourware? Photo at link -- just click on the headline.
On the second day of Iran's Sacred Defense Week, to mark its war against Iraq in the 1980s, Tehran unveiled its first domestically-manufactured UAV -- which it claimed was armed with air-to-air missiles.

Deputy defense minister, Brigadier General Amir Hatami, attended the launch of the unmanned aerial vehicle, telling journalists: "The production of UAVs equipped with anti-aircraft missiles was undertaken to fulfill the needs of our armed forces."

He claimed the UAVs were ready to join the Iranian military, as they were successfully tested -- in the lad and in the field.

Hatami added: "This aerial vehicle can destroy all types of aircraft -- warplanes, UAVs, and helicopters."

Arabic-language Iranian network Alalam claimed the UAVs would be deployed for intelligence missions, aerial surveillance, target identification, and anti-helicopter operations.

In August, Iran said it had shot down an Israeli spy drone that was heading for its Natanz nuclear enrichment site, Iranian media reported.

"The downed aircraft was of the stealth, radar-evasive type and it intended to penetrate the off-limits nuclear area in Natanz ... but was targeted by a ground-to-air missile before it managed to enter the area," state news agency ISNA said, citing a statement by Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

Terror Networks
EU Says 3,000 European Jihadis now in Syria, Iraq
[AnNahar] The number of Europeans joining Islamist fighters in Syria and Iraq has surged to about 3,000 from 2,000 only months ago, the EU counter-terrorism chief said Tuesday.

In an exclusive interview with AFP, Gilles de Kerchove said the flow of Europeans may have been boosted by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. krazed killer group's declaration in June of a caliphate straddling Syria and Iraq.

"My own assessment is that we're about 3,000," he said when asked how many European fighters have flocked to the Islamist cause in Syria and Iraq.

"The flow has not been dried up and therefore possibly the proclamation of the caliphate has had some impact," de Kerchove said.

His comments came hours after the United States and its Arab allies unleashed deadly strikes from land and sea on jihadists in Syria, opening a new front in the battle against the Islamic State group.

The European fighters, he said, come mainly from La Belle France, Britannia, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark but a few come from Spain, Italia, Ireland and now Austria.

"Even a country like Austria I think has now imported muscle, which I was not aware of before," he added.

The EU counter-terrorism coordinator nonetheless said he would check his figures with those of European security service chiefs in the next couple of weeks, saying their numbers may be more conservative.

The 'Immediate' Threat of Khorasan and the Link to Iran
A good backgrounder on the Khorasan Group, the target of American bombs in Syria. Herewith, a taste:
[PJMedia] White House won't provide "granular detail" about training cell managed by Zawahiri
... Formerly second in command of al-Qaeda, now the head cheese, occasionally described as the real brains of the outfit. Formerly the Mister Big of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Bumped off Abdullah Azzam with a car boom in the course of one of their little disputes. Is thought to have composed bin Laden's fatwa entitled World Islamic Front Against Jews and Crusaders. Currently residing in the North Wazoo area. That is not a horn growing from the middle of his forehead, but a prayer bump, attesting to how devout he is...
's deputy as P5+1 nuclear talks resume.

On the evening of Sept. 17, rumors began swirling across the Internet that al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri had been killed in an Arclight airstrike in Wazoo.

Then came the tweets from jihadist accounts that Zawahiri was alive and kicking, "according to Khorasan sources."

"News coming from Khurasan Mujahideen saying Sheikh Zawahiri is safe & sound! Alhamdulillah," tweeted an English-language jihadist account.

Khorasan, on the map circulated by ISIS, includes Iran, reaching deep into central Asia through Afghanistan and Turkmenistan and swallowing the Indian subcontinent. The sudden focus on this name comes in the same month that Zawahiri announced a long-planned expansion into India, Burma, Bangladesh and beyond -- the Al-Qaeda Jihad Organization in South Asia.

It's also the name for a chapter of al-Qaeda in Syria, led by the former commander of al-Qaeda in Iran.
