[ToloNews] Takhar’s deputy police chief Raz Mohammad Doorandish and nearly 50 security force members were killed in festivities with the Taliban ...Arabic for students... in the province on Tuesday night, local officials said.
"47 people (security forces members) were killed, and three or four others were maimed," said Amir Mohammad Khaksar, an MP from Takhar, adding that "the casualties will increase."
The fighting began with Taliban attacks on security forces in Masjid-e-Safid village of Baharak district, according to local officials. "The Taliban has also suffered heavy casualties in the festivities but there is no exact information."
Baharak is about 15km far from the capital of Takhar.
Relatives of security force members killed in the fighting have gathered at a hospital in Taloqan, the bucolic provincial capital, to receive the bodies of their family members.
Abdul Qayoum Hairat, head of Takhar's public health department, also confirmed that at least "20 special forces" are among the dead.
"17 others are dead from among Takhar’s police forces," he said.
A security force member who survived the attack said that "the forces clashed for several hours and during this time we called several times for support but did not receive any."
Doorandish is also among the dead from Tuesday night’s festivities. He was one of the special forces officers who recently was appointed as the deputy police chief of Takhar.
"The deputy police chief first was maimed in the fighting and died later," said Tariq Arian, a front man for the Interior Ministry.
"A number of other security forces were also killed in the fighting," he added.
Earlier, a source gave the following numbers:
"Around 60 security force members were sent on an operation in Baharak district to clear the bad boys, but the bodies of 12 of them were maimed while 48 other security forces are still missing," said a security source said in early hours of Wednesday morning.
Recently, the festivities have increased in the country.
The Ministry of Defense on Wednesday in a statement also said that 116 Taliban were killed and 39 others were maimed in the fighting over the past 24 hours in the country.
The Taliban has not yet commented on the fighting.
Latifa Saeedi, a member of the Takhar provincial council, told Khaama Press that fighting had been going on for the past few days in the Baharak district of the province and that Afghan forces had suffered casualties since Tuesday.
"The Taliban had taken positions in the houses around the area. They ambushed our forces who were there for an operation against the enemy," Jawad Hejri, a front man for the governor said.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Artsakh Defense Army (ADA) carried out a number of artillery and missile strikes on the enemy positions this week, as they attempt to stifle the Azerbaijani military’s attempted advances.
According to the Artsakh Defense Army’s official Twitter account, their forces neutralized a unit from the Azerbaijani Armed Forces that was attempting to move through an undisclosed part of the Karabakh region.
In the video released with their claim, the Artsakh Defense Army can be seen scoring direct hits on the Azerbaijani’s forces that are attempting to move through through Karabakh.
The Armenian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday morning that the Artsakh Defense Army’s air defense forces shot down an enemy warplane in the southern region of Karabakh.
“The #AirDefence units of the #Artsakh Defence Army shot down an adversary airplane at around 8:30 in the Southern Section,” the official Twitter account of the Armenian Ministry of Defense said.
They would add that “the situation is relatively stable but tense.”
The Armenian Ministry of Defense did not provide any details about the Azerbaijani aircraft that was shot down, nor was any footage released from the incident.
The downing of this Azerbaijani warplane comes just hours after the Artsakh Defense Army’s air defense units shot down a Turkish-made drone over the Karabakh region.

A 20-year-old Syrian who stabbed one person to death and maimed another in Dresden was likely motivated by Islamic extremism, German prosecutors said on Wednesday.
The man was arrested on Tuesday evening, police and prosecutors in the eastern German city said. They said the suspect came to authorities' attention as a result of examining evidence at the scene of the crime.
"Investigations have shown that the dreadful killing in Dresden had an Islamist background," Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht said. "Islamist terror is a major, enduring threat to our society that we have to tackle determinedly."
According to the Bild newspaper, that evidence was DNA traces found on the attack weapon, which police discovered not far from the scene of the October 4 crime. The paper said the suspect's DNA was already recorded in police databases and cited a prosecutor as saying that the man already had a police record.
FATAL ATTACK
The authorities said the suspect had an extensive criminal record, including charges of soliciting support for a foreign terrorist organization, and charges of bodily injury, and making threats.
The alleged attacker came to Germany in 2015 and applied for asylum, according to Der Spiegel magazine. Even though his application was rejected, he has managed to stay in Germany under the so-called "tolerated" status which German authorities give to rejected asylum seekers who cannot be deported.
The two victims, both from the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia, were visiting Dresden together. One 55-year-old man died of his injuries in hospital, while a 53-year-old survived despite having been badly maimed.

Protesters shut down traffic and Phoenix Police say the group of rioters hurled incendiary devices at responding officers. Austin was carrying a semi-automatic rifle at the time. Police declared an unlawful assembly and fired impact munitions.
Austin was taken into custody on charges of felony first-degree hindering prosecution, felony riot and unlawful assembly. She’s been arrested at least a half-dozen times related to far-left protests in Arizona. Austin did not respond to a request for comment but has published social media posts about her most recent arrest.
"There were multiple trans and gender non-conforming folx who were repeatedly and intentionally misgendered, disrespected, dehumanized, and violated throughout the process including me," Austin wrote on Facebook. "I was also subjected to intentional and gender-based Islamophobia ...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do... and retaliation for asserting my legal rights."
